San Sebastian Cathedral is a well-known 19th-century Catholic cathedral located in Bacolod. It features elegant architecture dating back to the Spanish times and holds historical significance as recognized by the Philippine Historical Committee. The cathedral's airy interior with chandeliers adds to its charm, and visitors can also explore the Bishops Palace within its grounds. A Cathedral of Grace: San Sebastian Cathedral, Bacolod San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod isn't just a church; it's a vibrant testament to faith, history, and architectural beauty. From the moment you step onto the grounds, you're enveloped in an atmosphere of serenity and awe. The cathedral's imposing structure, a blend of neoclassical and Spanish colonial styles, immediately captivates the eye. The intricate details, from the soaring arches to the meticulously crafted stained-glass windows, speak volumes about the craftsmanship and devotion poured into its creation. Inside, the cathedral's grandeur continues. The high ceilings create a sense of spaciousness, while the soft light filtering through the stained glass bathes the interior in a warm, ethereal glow. The simple yet elegant design allows the focus to remain on the spiritual heart of the space. It's a place where one can truly feel a connection to something larger than oneself. The quiet reverence of worshippers adds to the peaceful ambiance. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, San Sebastian Cathedral holds significant historical value. It stands as a symbol of Bacolod's rich past, a witness to countless celebrations, prayers, and moments of both joy and sorrow. Its presence in the heart of the city serves as a constant reminder of the enduring power of faith. Whether you're a devout Catholic, an architecture enthusiast, or simply a traveler seeking a moment of peace, San Sebastian Cathedral is a must-visit destination in Bacolod. It's a place where history, art, and spirituality converge to create an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend taking the time to explore this magnificent cathedral and soak in its unique charm.

We had the chance to visit the San Sebastian Church in Bacolod, and it was truly a beautiful and memorable experience. The architecture is stunning, with its grand design and historical charm that immediately captures your attention the moment you arrive. We visited on a Friday, and we were lucky enough to attend a Holy Mass during our visit. The ambience inside the church was peaceful and solemn, creating the perfect setting for prayer and reflection. The church is well-maintained and radiates a sense of history and faith that both locals and tourists will appreciate. Whether you're religious or simply admire heritage sites, San Sebastian Church is definitely worth a visit when in Bacolod.

We dropped by here as part of our city tour. There is currently an event happening so we could not stay for a long time. There is a guard by the gate and if you want to park inside he will help you. There are a few stalls selling religious memorabilia and candles for offering. These stalls only accept cash.

Located at the center of Bacolod City across the plaza. This church will take you back in time. Beautiful architecture and love the mosaics at the doors. Also the vintage feel of the altar. You should definitely visit this church when you’re at Bacolod City.
Just C — Google review
A church has been at this site since the 19th century. The church has a very impressive baroque facade with symmetric bell towers over an arcade with Romanesque arches. The interiors seems to be influenced by Rococo, albeit without the white plaster sculptures. The high altar is pretty much the most impressive part of the building. A white and gold ciborium shelters the altar table. Behind that, a reredos has a life-size statue of Saint Sebastian in the centre flanked by two angels
Chung H — Google review
Very solemn. The cathedral’s long aisle and bright altar gave us a light and uplifting feeling during our visit.
Donnica B — Google review
The church is just across from Bacolod Plaza. It’s a nice place to stop by for a visit and a moment of prayer if you’re touring around Bacolod.

Mambukal Mountain Resort is a fascinating place with plenty to offer. Visitors can enjoy delicious desserts by the four-tiered fountain in the garden and ponder over intriguing stories from the past. The resort surprises guests with unexpected attractions like bats and various tourist spots, including rivers and high valleys. It's an ideal destination for a vacation, especially because of the relaxing sulfur hot spring known as ofuru. While it may rain at times, visitors can still appreciate the beautiful river views.
Nice place to visit. We went just for lunch. Rained rained rained. We sat overlooking the river. This is a sulfur springs resort so you have to smell it. Lol. Food was ok, nothing special. Didn't stay at the hotel. You must call before you go!

A place to relax. They accept walk-in and entrance plus environmental fee is 140pesos total. This includes pool use & hot dipping pool. Food can be bought outside just before the entrance 🥰 spa and picnic hut for day tours can be availed for separate fees. Kayak is available in the lagoon. Overnight cottages need reservation...
GERLIE U — Google review
Terrible hotel experience, rooms are way overpriced, payed so much and there was no wifi, no towels (need to pay extra for towels) no mini bar and no blankets, only one little sheet for two people to share. No restaurants! The only option is to order room service but they close at 7:00 pm so you stay hungry all night. The staff is unorganized and unprofessional. And you need to pay extra to enter the resort, so the hot springs are NOT included in the room price. And we were charged another wired resort fee, just felt like they were milking us for everything they could. Hot springs are amazing and beautiful but that’s the only good thing about the place. Better to just come for the day and NOT stay overnight.
Jay J — Google review
The resort offers a wide range of activities such as swimming, camping, trekking, zip-lining, and boating. Visitors can also enjoy the natural sulfur hot springs and mud pools which are believed to have therapeutic benefits. Apart from the natural attractions, the resort also features various accommodations, restaurants, and souvenir shops for visitors to enjoy. The staff is friendly and helpful, making the stay at the resort a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Overall, Mambukal Mountain Resort is an excellent choice for tourists looking for a unique outdoor experience in the Philippines.

This place is impressive for they have a lot of stuff going around it. When we got here I didn't expect something like bats are in here and several tourist attractions that we experienced. I only thought it is a good public pool that we can go and swim on. But there are a lot of things you will see here. There are also rivers and high valleys that you will go through. It is a fantastic place for a vacation. But my favourite part of this place is the ofuru or the hot spring that is sulfur. I only had seen those stuff exist on anime, and trying to bathe on it is great. But, as a first timer it is quite hard to bare and stay at because the water is so hot, so you had to cool down first before going in the hot spring. An so yeah there are a lot more things that you will see here and I highly recommend people to go here.
ELIAS — Google review
My family had a good time. Me, I didn’t get to see anything. I tried to contact them for 2 weeks to check if we could get a cabin to sped the night. No one would answer their phone. When we got there, there was over rowing, no secure place to park and no security for parked vehicles. So I had to stay with the car while everyone else went to have fun. The staff at the location was less than helpful. They didn’t seem to care that we traveled there at a pretty good cost, since there was a lot of people in our group.
Paul R — Google review
Was a great experience. We went to their dip pool. The water is really hot at first and you can smell the sulfur from but not bad when you get use to it. Me and my friends are able to visit the 6 waterfalls.
Bebe N — Google review
It just is different. Not very luxury, but very comfortable. But that is not why we go there regularly. It's because of the great nature. And it's because the people working there have their own 'business' there. Whether the guides, the flower sales people or the restaurants. Very empowering. And then there is more nature. Thousands of bats in the trees, birds and trees. And when you're tired, there are the warm sulphur baths and the massage. What makes it more pleasing is that the governor has developed it 'for the people', so not commercial but with conservation as the main driver. Very sympathetic. Even if the booking process is often difficult for outsiders: do it... worth the effort.

The Ruins

Mentioned on

The Ruins, also known as Balay ni Tan Juan, is the remains of a grand Italianate mansion that was destroyed during World War II. Built in the late 19th century, it served as the residence of General Juan A. Araneta and holds historical significance related to the struggles during Hispanic colonization and the Negros Revolution of 1898.
I finally got to visit The Ruins in Talisay, Negros Occidental and I have to say, it truly lived up to the hype. This place is more than just a picturesque old mansion; it's a piece of history beautifully preserved and proudly shared with the public. It was closed when went there on a Saturday, it was booked for a wedding event. So, we came back on a Sunday. The moment I stepped into the grounds, I was struck by how elegant and peaceful the place was. The structure itself, though only the skeletal remains of what was once a grand home, still exudes so much character. The architecture, inspired by Italian design, is a testament to how love and legacy can be cast in concrete. What made the experience even better was how well-maintained everything was. The gardens were lush and vibrant, making the place feel alive despite the ruins. The parking is good and the comfort rooms are well maintained, which made the whole visit even more convenient and comfortable. What made it more special for me personally was seeing how happy my wife was to be back again. It brought back memories for her and added a deeper layer of meaning to the visit. It was a beautiful moment we’ll both treasure. Whether you're into history, photography, or just looking for a quiet romantic spot to relax, The Ruins is definitely worth the trip. It’s the kind of place that makes you pause and reflect, a reminder of how love and resilience can stand the test of time. Don’t forget to stay until sunset, but unfortunately we are not able to stay there during sunset. We will definitely go back.
Kenn G — Google review
The drive there was very relaxing, with wide plains and minimal traffic. The site offers a spacious parking area and a ticketing lobby where guests line up to get tickets. Even on a weekday, there was still a queue, showing just how popular this destination is. Upon entering, you’re greeted by a beautiful green lawn, the mansion, a fountain, a small monument detailing the history of the place, and a restaurant beside a well. The history behind the mansion is heartwarming, while the story of how it burned down is truly devastating. There aren’t many activities to do here other than simply soaking in the beauty and history of the place—but that alone makes the visit worthwhile.
Brian ( — Google review
Spectacular structure. We saw already pictures online but we cannot believe what stands before own very own eyes. We were definitely captivated by this timeless peace; a witness of history. A place to remember ❤️.

The Ruins is absolutely stunning! Such a beautiful piece of history and definitely a must-visit. The place is well-maintained, and the view—especially during sunset—is breathtaking. You can really feel the old-world charm and romantic vibe of the place. There’s also a nice café inside where you can relax and enjoy the scenery. Perfect spot for photos, chill time, and learning a bit of local history. Entrance is 150pesos each
Crisha M — Google review
It’s one of the few places in Bacolod you could visit and call a tourist spot. There’s not much to see except for the concrete skeleton of a once grand mansion. You can have a lot of photo opportunities if there’s not a lot of people. At high noon, the place could be very humid. Good thing there is a restaurant in the vicinity that gives a wonderful view of the ruins. They offer a limited selection of food and drinks. We tried their shakes to help us cool down. There’s also a gift shop for souvenirs. Place is easily accessible. I was able to book a grab car to and from the area. Must visit when you’re in Bacolod.
Marie P — Google review
My cousin and I went here on a regular day. The mansion looks so beautiful, especially at night. There were also many visitors even though it wasn’t a weekend. I highly recommend going around 4 or 5 PM so you can stay until the mansion lights up.
Scarlet P — Google review
The entrance fee is paid in cash. There was sufficient parking when we arrived in the afternoon. The parking area is quite big. We parked near the entrance where you can see the fresh sugar cane juice store right away. There were quite a number of guests so it's hard to get photos without people in the background. There is a free guided tour every 30 minutes. While waiting for the tour to begin again, you can watch the informative video they prepared or check out the gift shop. The tour was short but informative. It was also a very inspiring story. This tourist spot is the last location in our city tour which I think was the best way to end the tour as it was relaxing and chill. The view was beautiful, the food was nothing special but the scenery and live music elevates the experience, and the fresh sugar cane juice on a humid day relieves your stress. This is a great place to watch the sunset. Don't miss the tree growing on top of the abandoned sugar cane tower or torre de azucar and the water fountain when its lighted at night.
Ia L — Google review
The place takes you back in time with its Spanish-era inspired cement frames creating the vibe of classic Italian ambience augmented by its adjacent restaurant - The Piazza. Perfect place to visit when in Bacolod, to relax and unwind, and just simply enjoy the scenery.

Balay Negrense

Museums
Balay Negrense is a 1897 home of a sugar baron that offers tours and provides a glimpse into Negrense history. The house is preserved with period fixtures, furnishings, portraits, and personal items of the ancestors. It features an impressive family tree and hosts artists creating masterpieces. The guided tours are available in English and showcase the historical significance of the house. With donated items from other families, it offers insights into the lives of people who lived there.
I recently visited a historical site in Silay City, located on Cinco de Nobyembre Street, and while I was excited to explore, I discovered that it's currently under renovation. It’s a bit disappointing, as I was looking forward to seeing this piece of Negros Occidental history up close. However, I could still appreciate how well it has been preserved over time. You can feel the history in the air, and I can't wait to return once the renovations are completed. It’s definitely a place worth visiting for anyone interested in local history!
Ernie T — Google review
We were hoping to see the museum but this house is temporarily closed. The driver of our tour said it is currently under renovation. However, there was no sign upto when it will be closed. While you're here, take note of the beautiful wall art in front of the house.

Without knowing where to start in this place, I pinned on what looks to be something interesting. Unluckily the place was closed and no guards to charm this time. So let me just pay homage to all the beautiful and magnificent mansions along Cinco de Noviembre St instead as I just started to stroll, high noon, on a cloudy day! Some mansions have been maintained, some abandoned. Some have been converted to museums while others have housed commercial establishments. I hope the local government would be able to maintain the charm of this place. This is something to be proud of and should sustain our heritage. I did enjoy my walk around Silay!
Patrick T — Google review
A testament to Silay's rich heritage, Balay Negrense stands proudly as the former residence of the Gaston family, prominent sugar barons of their time. Built in 1897, this ancestral home offers a captivating glimpse into the grandeur of Spanish-era architecture. While I was saddened to find it closed for rehabilitation until farther notice, the striking beauty of its exterior left a lasting impression. Balay Negrense undoubtedly commands attention along Cinco de Noviembre Street, and I eagerly anticipate returning to Silay City to explore its interiors and delve deeper into its fascinating history.

The Balay Negrense (Victor Fernandez Gaston Ancestral House) Silay City, Negros Occidental A Bahay na Bato showcasing the lifestyle of a late 19th-century Negrense sugar baron. It is notable for being the first museum to be established in the province of Negros Occidental. Reflecting American colonial influences, the lower storey is not constructed of stone but of concrete. The foundation posts are made out of trunks of the balayong tree, a local hardwood; the floorboards are of the same material. The house's upper storey is constructed of wood topped with a roof of galvanized iron instead of tile (reflecting the late-19th century trend started in Manila owing to a rule discouraging the use of tiles in favor of then-novel hiero as roofing material in the aftermath of the 1880 Luzon earthquakes). The house has a four-metre high ceiling and large windows with ventanillas, smaller windows beneath the large windows with sliding panels that can be opened to admit the wind. The lower storey itself is elevated from ground level by a metre-high crawlspace, allowing the wooden foundations to be aired, preventing dampness from rotting the wood.

Moment of History in a Jiffy. If you're in a hurry or have little time to spare but want to know more about the Negrense history, do visit this quaint house. The house offers a glimpse of life decades ago, with portraits, preserved furniture and personal items of the ancestors. There's an impressive family tree mounted on a round glass table, which is regularly updated. There were artists creating masterpieces in the house when we visited last March 11, 2022. There's a small souvenir room, too, with various items for sale (key chains, costume jewelry or accessories, paintings, etc.)
Susie S — Google review
If you are an avid fan of the past then this place is for you. The house is dedicated to the people of Negros and so as the it got its name 'Balay Negrense'. There's a lot to discover inside the house. From architectural design to the history of Negros, their kind of clothing, past time activities, glass wares and utensils, home furniture to past appliances. The house is full of awesomeness. Discover it for yourself. 🙂👍🏻

Campuestohan Highland Resort is a relaxed and quirky resort that offers a variety of accommodations, ziplines, outdoor pools, dining options, and a spa. It's an ideal destination for families with activities catering to all age groups. The resort features multiple pools including a wave pool, swimming pool, water park, and foam pool.
The trip there was very scenic, and upon arrival, we were greeted by giant sculptures of dinosaurs and other animals. It’s one of the most unique resorts I’ve visited. It's a true sight to behold. There are plenty of activities to enjoy, including swimming, a zipline, a hamster walk, and even ostrich feeding. While some areas are still under construction, the place shows huge potential. With its themed sections and unique photo opportunities, the experience is well worth it. I highly recommend visiting.

Originally, this wasn't part of our tour but because our flight was very early, we added this place as it was open early. There are so many places you can take a photo of here. It is good for couples and families. We noticed that even though it's raining the pools are packed with guests. In each area, there are also different rooms available. Since we only did a day trip here, we could only quickly check out the rooms but I think it would be fun to stay here at least overnight. The rooms are big enough to fit a family of four. There are so many things you can do. They also have their restaurant and cafe so you can comfortably stay and eat here. The entrance fee is P250 per person and parking is along the road inside the gated facility. The design of the park is kind of eclectic though. There is a general theme like the Dino park or the teepee village but once in a while, there is an item that does not fit.

Campuestohan Highland Resort is a mountain‑top resort and adventure park located in Sitio Campuestohan, Brgy. Cabatangan, Talisay City, Negros Occidental. It opened in May 2014 and is developed as an integrated eco‑tourism destination combining leisure, family fun, and scenic views. Pros & Highlights • Ideal for families or groups with kids: plenty of activities, space for children to play, photo opportunities. Reviewers say kids especially enjoy the whimsical attractions. • The scenic setting and cooler climate add value compared to typical resort‑town heat. One review mentioned: “The place is perfect especially for the kids… they have plenty of swimming pools and playground.” • A good mix of leisure + adventure: you can relax by the pool or opt for zip‑line/sky‑bike for more excitement. • The resort has gained some media attention—e.g., for its new rooster‑shaped hotel building “Manok ni Cano Gwapo” which drew Guinness World Record recognition.

Good value. A variety of fun things to do. Entrance fee is fair. All rides have to be paid for around 150 to 200 pesos. Instruction on how to pay for rides very vague very often have to ask staff. Main wave pool is well presented and fun and by far the best feature that does not have to be paid for.
Stuart M — Google review
Always a great time with the kids at campuestohan. Entrance at 250 unli access to all the pools. You need to pay extra for other activities such as ostrich feeding, zip line etc. The resort keeps improving as they add new attractions and a big slide.

Staff are friendly and place is spacious. A lot of activities to do and it was a great experience to feed the ostriches! Currently there is a major construction on going for thier new acttractions however it doesnt affect our quick day use of the place.
Eunice A — Google review
We visited the place just two days ago with an entrance fee of ₱250 for adult. It was beautiful! I think they have around five pools, with two more still under construction. There are plenty of garbage bins, huge dinosaur displays, and of course, the famous Manok ni Cano. My only concern is the restrooms — they’re not well maintained despite the abundant water supply. You can still smell urine, and there’s nowhere to place your things inside the shower area. The food in their cafeteria is okay, but there are a lot of flies. I’d suggest bringing your own food and a jacket in case it rains, as it can get quite cold due to the fog. Overall, my toddler really enjoyed the foam and wave pools!
Shiela A — Google review
The place really has gone downhill. A lot of the facilities and structures are dilapidated, broken and rusted due to neglect. The pools look dirty with bits of mould present. The slides and rides are either under construction or out of order. No life guards at certain areas to supervise with poor signage as well.

The beach is stunning, featuring beautiful white sand and an abundance of colorful corals and fish, making it ideal for snorkeling. However, there are some downsides: nearby restaurants often have loud music and karaoke, and there is little to no shade available. It can also get quite crowded in the evenings. We paid 25 pesos each on the way there, in addition to parking and an entrance fee on-site.

I visited this place on a Saturday afternoon — it was quite crowded with lots of people swimming. There were many food stalls along the beach selling all kinds of grilled meat and seafood. The beach itself was clean and beautiful, but due to the crowd, I decided just to take a walk and enjoy the view. Note that there’s a small fee: 20 pesos for motocycle parking and 10 pesos for entrance

It's a public beach, but for some reason it requires a fee. It's dirty, there are no changing rooms or sun loungers, and there are lots of dogs and dog poop. The locals simply don't know what a normal beach should look like. There are no lifeguards either.

Calm blue waters, but very busy. Met some locals who invited us to join them to play volleyball that was fun. Overall, it was an okay experience.

We went here September 19, 2025. It is not a part of our Tour package, but included due to bad weather resulting for a temporary closure of Kawasan Falls. White Beach in Moalboal is open for the public, but you have to pay for an enviromental fee of 10 pesos per person and a parking fee of 100 pesos. The beach has a remarkable white sand and a stunning clear water. You can see on the other side the island of Negros Oriental.
Gorj S — Google review
A nice enough beach and very busy when I went. The water is clean and blue.
Paul B — Google review
Rode our bike up to the beach and pay the small entry and parking fee, like 40 pesos for two and a bike. The beach is very nice white sand and the water is crystal clear. Snorkelling is wonderful, and you can easily see turtles in the shallows. You can rent a mask-snorkel from the beach if needed. If you walk down the beach just 5 minutes, you can have the place to yourself, and the snorkelling is still great.

Lakawon Island, located in Cadiz City, is a tiny island paradise boasting white sand beaches and a modern resort and spa. Visitors can enjoy the luxury of modern amenities and even a floating bar. While there, don't miss the chance to explore the local market for some dried fish or uga. The island offers clear and cold seawater perfect for swimming, although boat travel back to the mainland can be rough due to large waves during certain seasons.
The island is a hidden gem that offers breathtaking natural beauty and a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the island was bathed in a warm, golden glow.

I came to this place often as a child, and it used to be a desert island. It was more beautiful that way. Although I miss that old untouched vibe, I have to admit that the safety and modern conveniences that the resort provides are good for tourists as well as the local community.

We left Silay City early in the morning to catch the 7:00 am boat to Lakawon Island. The journey from Silay to Cadiz took about an hour, covering a distance of 49 km. Upon arrival, we found the motorcycle parking spacious but a bit pricey at 80 pesos. We got there before 7 am and had to wait for the Tourism officer, who arrived around 8:30 am. Thankfully, there were vendors and eateries nearby where we could have breakfast while waiting. When the officer arrived, we registered along with a Korean group. Since it was a weekday, we had to shoulder 1,000 pesos as we were less than 25 people, but the other group kindly let us pay just 200 pesos. Instead of the regular 500 pesos fee, we ended up paying 600 pesos each, which covered the entrance, terminal, round-trip boat ride, cottage, and access to the floating bar. Note that the fees vary between weekdays and weekends, and reservations are not accepted—it's first come, first served. The boat ride to Lakawon Island took about 20 minutes. We visited in February during low tide, so we couldn't swim, but we still enjoyed the serene beauty of the island. One of the highlights was the TawHai Floating Bar, a unique and popular attraction. The island also offers accommodations, huts, and a restaurant. For a smooth experience, it's advisable to book your accommodation in advance, especially during peak season. Lakawon Island is definitely worth the visit for its picturesque beaches and relaxing atmosphere.

Had a good experience despite the heavy rain when I was there. Had booked a tour guide, so I traveled by car from Bacolod to the port to Lakawon. Paid 750 for round trip boat transfer and table on the island. Eatery by the port is a bit pricey. The food on the pic below is P125. There are snacks and drinks in the restaurant at Lakawon island, also pricey. Highly recommend day tour, and be by the port before 7am to have more time to enjoy the island. The last trip from Lakawon island back to the port is at 2 pm.

Had a great time with this one of a kind beach resort, it is not summer when we went here, only a few people are here so we enjoyed lakawon, you dont have to bring cash here because you to load it by the port with the cash card. Very techie! Food are expensive though nevertheless its a good experience to be here.

📍Just to get there and back is a pain. You have to wait to fill the boat with x amount of people, waste of time if you ask me. (Pay an extra P1500 for a special trip..huh?) 📍The cottages are set back away from the shoreline which is doable but not ideal. Finding your cottage number is a guessing game. You can barely see the markers. 📍My biggest pet peeve is that you pay an “environmental fee” but the beach has not been kept clean by whoever is responsible. There’s food wrappers etc and what nots in the water and off shore. (c’mon people leave no trace!) 📍Not much in the way of snorkeling except for tiny fish and starfish by one of the moored boats. 📍Showers available in the back of cafe area. 📍Don’t go walking around elsewhere as large parts of the island are someone else’s. There’s decrepit buildings towards the back. 📍+ for the people manning the shops/office, the stars are for them. 📍If you’re parking by the ticketing office, there’s a parking fee P75. 06/29/2023

Few hours away from the city. We stayed here for a night. Price of the room is 4999 pesos good for 8 people (it was Pearl’s Place - a building about 5 mins walk from the restaurant). The room had no private bathroom (we used a common CR about 20 available). They have rooms with private CRs too. Food is expensive but tastes good. They do not have a menu. The food are prepared ahead (carinderia style).

Another very beautiful beach of our country. Staff was very accommodating and courteous. Except for the toilets, which were ALL out of order during the time we visited there, the place was good. The boat trip we took going in and out of the island were uneventful, which was good. We upgraded our rooms without any problem.

Monastery of the Holy Eucharist

Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
Castlelike site where devotees leave offerings to the Virgin Mary in exchange for miracles.
I recently visited on a Sunday, and what an experience it was! The trip was truly amazing, but I have to say, it was a bit of a challenge getting in. The mass had just started when I arrived, and the church was packed. I had to wait around 10 minutes to get in, and many were waiting outside under the scorching heat of the sun. One highlight of my visit was seeing the stunning fountain for the first time. Overall, my Sunday visit to Simala Church was an unforgettable experience, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a spiritual experience or just wanting to admire its beauty. Bring umbrella, water and just be prepared for the crowds, especially on Sundays!

The Monastery of the Holy Eucharist (Simala Shrine) in Sibonga, Cebu is simply breathtaking. This was my second visit, and both times I made sure to arrive by 8:00 AM just as the gates opened. To do that, we left Cebu City by 5:15 AM, which is essential if you’re planning a full day including waterfalls and want to be back by 7:00 PM. The architecture alone is reason enough to visit—grand, castle-like structures, beautifully maintained gardens, and picturesque terraces filled with flowering pots and religious statues. There is currently some construction happening on the far end, but it doesn’t take away from the grandeur of the site. Inside, the church is just as impressive—intricately decorated with gold accents, colorful ceiling murals, and statues lining every wall. It feels reverent yet vibrant. Mass started around 9:00 AM on both my Monday visits. Dress modestly—shoulders and knees must be covered. Don’t miss the view from the upper balconies or the “I ❤️ Mama Mary” photo spot, which frames the entire sanctuary perfectly. Whether you’re here to pray, take photos, or just soak in the peaceful atmosphere, this is one of Cebu’s most iconic religious landmarks.

The Monastery of the Holy Eucharist, also known as Simala Shrine, is truly awe-inspiring place that blends deep spirituality with breathtaking architecture. Nestled in the hills of Sibonga, it offers a serene atmosphere perfect for reflection and prayer. The grandeur of its castle-like structure, the solemn silence, and the heartfelt devotion of pilgrims make it a sacred experience like no other. Whether you come to pray, give thanks, or simply marvel at its beauty, Simala Shrine leaves you with peace, faith, and a sense of divine presence.

Birhen sa Lindogon is one of the most peaceful and holy places I’ve ever been to. The moment you arrive, you feel the strong presence of faith and devotion from the many people who come here—grateful for the blessings they’ve received and hopeful for the petitions they carry in their hearts. It’s hard to put into words how beautiful and moving this place truly is. Being there fills you with peace, hope, and a sense of closeness to God through the Blessed Virgin. Truly, an unforgettable and grace-filled experience.
Jose G — Google review
From a touristic perspective, the only positive aspect of this place is that it is free to visit. Don’t be misled by the grand appearance from a distance; up close, the monastery falls short of beauty and grandeur. The doves, symbolizing the Holy Spirit, resemble seagulls with golden wings, and the angels look like ugly plastic mannequins you would find in a shop window. Overall, it feels like an ode to poor taste. Additionally, it can get extremely hot, as the fans in the church are turned off, and you'll have to navigate a crowd of vendors and scammers at the entrance. Overall, it’s not really worth the visit.

I see this monastery transform from a small chapel to a massive cathedral. It has been in existence for 27 years. The construction is still ongoing and continues to expand. I am among those who are genuinely committed and a believer. I also believe in the healing and miracles that many people have experienced. Therefore, people may travel from all over the Philippines just to come and offer their prayers and ask for assistance in healing from illness. This location is frequently visited every day and is always packed with believers.

Bojo River is a stunning natural attraction located in Aloguinsan, just an hour's drive north of Moalboal in South Cebu. Despite being farther north than most other tourist spots in the area, it's still easily accessible from Cebu City, making it a perfect day trip destination. The river is surrounded by beautiful hills and offers a serene environment for visitors to enjoy with friends or family.
this is a very chill destination that's soooo worth the visit. we were there on a monday so there werent a lot of other guests. it's so cool that you can really go through the river until the part where it meets the sea. i highly recommend getting the boat with the roof that has a glass bottom, you get to see school of fishes and corals. such an amazing experience and would probably come back. it's just sad that there's no commute option to and from moalboal, that would have increased the likelihood of having guests. they should implement that, along with scheduling ahead and limiting walk-ins, for crowd control's sake.

We went and it was low tide. The back side of the sandbar is great for snorkeling and the front for swimming. The locals will direct you where it’s safe as the current can be strong. Simply beautiful!

My favorite sandbar in Sagay City and the best conservation narrative I have heard. Lifted from my article at my website: Ex-poachers and ex-dynamite fisherfolks now protect the 32,000-hectare protected seascape for 5 decades and about 200 hectares of that is a marine sanctuary known to be Sagay's poster destination: the famous Carbin Reef. The protected marine seascape features its ever changing sandbar surrounded by clear waters dotted with a teeming marine ecosystem.

The island is clean since they are practicing “garbage in, garbage out”. Maximum number of guests in the island is 70. They accept early bookings. No store or restaurant in the island so better to bring your own food/drinks. Prepare fee for each guest, for boat rental and for cottage.

It's a nice place if you like blue ocean water, but don't expect nice sandy beaches here. The 'beach' is not made of sand, but of razor sharp coral particles and after just a few hours it becomes unbearable to your feet. There are about 5 simple 'gazebo' like places where you can sit and aside from swimming and going to the tower there is nothing else to do here, nor can you buy anything and also no toilet. The waters are fair, blue yes, but also teaming with little crabs and random little trash. See photo's. Most of the trash floats ashore Sagay beach though.

Tops Lookout, situated along Cebu Transcentral Highway, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city. For a nominal fee, visitors can enjoy this scenic spot until midnight, making it an ideal location for a quiet evening with friends or a romantic date. The lookout provides cold mountain air and various casual dining options, creating a perfect setting for picnics and relaxation. It is recommended to visit around 5:00 PM to witness the stunning sunset and the city lights coming to life.
If you're in Cebu and looking for the perfect spot to unwind while taking in a spectacular view, TOPS Lookout is absolutely worth the trip. Perched high above the city in the hills of Busay, TOPS offers a panoramic view that's especially magical at night. As the sun sets and the city lights start to twinkle below, the entire scene transforms into something truly breathtaking. You can see the glowing cityscape stretch all the way out to the sea, with the stars above and the sparkling lights below creating an unforgettable atmosphere. It’s peaceful, romantic, and perfect for photos—whether you're with friends, a special someone, or just enjoying some quiet time alone. There are food stalls and small cafés nearby, so you can grab a snack or drink while soaking in the view. Whether you're a local or a tourist, TOPS Cebu is one of those places that reminds you how beautiful the city really is. Just don’t forget to bring a jacket—it can get a bit chilly at night. Highly recommended for night-time visits!

Nice spot. Very beautifully created, the stairs, the flooring - it's all gorgeous and fits the ambiance. The view is super nice. But there is not much to do here but eat. I strongly recommend making this part of a larger day where you visit some of the other Great sites up this mountain like Sirao and Little Kyoto. That way you make better use of the long drive up here. Half hour looking at views, then get food, then go to the other sites!

Perfect spot for complete views of the city. Come in the evening to see the city lights in full effect. Place offers 360° views of the surrounding area (although is an additional cost to to the top floor for the full 360° view) There also lots of cafe's and restaurant to grab food or drinks. Can get to TOPS by taxi or bus. There is a bus route that leaves from IT park Cost is 200 peso's *in cash

Our family visit to Tops Cebu was a lovely escape into the hills. We arrived around 6 PM, riding their shuttle bus—fare was ₱200 per person, which already included the entrance fee. The ride was smooth and scenic, setting the tone for a peaceful evening. Though we missed the sunset and mountain views, the city lights more than made up for it. As night fell, Cebu sparkled below us like a sea of stars. For an extra ₱50 each, we stepped onto Sky360, where the view felt even more magical—quiet, vast, and full of wonder. It was a simple yet memorable moment for our family. If you're looking for a serene night spot with a panoramic cityscape, Tops Cebu is worth the visit.

Great views, many food places. Cozy specially at night. Nice to visit during the day if the sun's not out or weather is not too hot, more people come during the mid-afternoon and early evenings. Restaurants and bars open just before lunch. You may get dizzy coming here if you don't like winding roads but its worth it.

Cebu Taoist Temple, situated in the Beverly Hills area, is a captivating complex constructed by the Chinese community. The temple features vibrant pagodas adorned with striking dragon designs and other intricate figures. Perched at an altitude of 300 meters, it offers panoramic views of the city, making it a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts. Visitors are advised to arrange return transportation in advance due to limited taxi availability in the area after 5 pm when the temple closes.
Located in the Beverly hills of Cebu, is a Taoist Temple with fascinating views and awe dropping buildings. Created in the past for rich Chinese settlers in Cebu to create an exclusive neighborhood with a temple to practice their culture. This temple has dragon sculptures, unique Chinese shaped buildings and telescopes to look closely into the city. But when you enter inside the temple don't picture the inside as it is disrespectful. And make sure to don't act loud and arrogant instead be respectful. This used to be a great place to view the city, before the TOPS was built but still a great place during the wet season so that you won't get blown away.

After seeing several posts online—especially the images of the striking green dragon winding across the hillside—I knew this temple was going on my Cebu itinerary. The Cebu Taoist Temple was a vibrant and fascinating visit with plenty to take in across the grounds. The temple is perched in the elevated Beverly Hills area and offers incredible panoramic views over Cebu City. There’s a fair bit of walking involved, with staircases and paths weaving through pagodas, pavilions, and beautifully manicured gardens. One of the highlights for me was the dragon sculpture near the upper level—vivid, dynamic, and a popular photo spot for a reason. Inside some temple areas, photography is prohibited, and this is strictly enforced, which I respected. Signs are clearly posted, and temple caretakers are present to maintain the serenity of the place. That said, the architecture, rooflines, and painted details throughout the exteriors are more than enough to fill your camera roll. This isn’t a fast-paced stop; it’s more reflective and peaceful. I’d recommend including it as part of a wider city sightseeing day. Entry is free, and the views alone make it worth the effort. Bring water, wear decent walking shoes, and prepare for a splash of color and culture. The Cebu Taoist Temple is one of the city’s most iconic cultural and spiritual landmarks. Built in 1972 by Cebu’s Chinese community, the temple sits atop the Beverly Hills subdivision in Lahug, offering a peaceful retreat with a panoramic view of Cebu City. Unlike most temples that are exclusive to worshippers, the Taoist Temple is open to everyone, welcoming both devotees and tourists who want to learn more about Chinese traditions and Taoist philosophy. The temple’s architecture is inspired by traditional Chinese pagodas, complete with dragon statues, intricate carvings, and bright red and green accents that make it stand out amid the lush hillside. Visitors can climb the 81 steps leading to the main temple—representing the 81 chapters of the Taoist scriptures—and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere at the top. Inside, devotees come to pray and light incense sticks, while others simply admire the detailed artwork and peaceful surroundings. Aside from its religious significance, the Taoist Temple also offers a breathtaking view of the city and the sea, making it a perfect spot for quiet reflection or sightseeing. It’s a reminder of Cebu’s rich cultural diversity and how faith, heritage, and community come together in harmony. Whether you’re visiting for spiritual reasons or just to appreciate the beauty of the place, the Taoist Temple is definitely worth a stop when you’re in Cebu.
Eugine P — Google review
I visited the Taoist Temple in Cebu and was pleasantly surprised by how much it offered in a short visit. Situated high in the Beverly Hills subdivision, the temple’s vibrant architecture - especially the winding dragon sculpture and colourful pagodas - immediately caught my eye. The view of Cebu City sprawling below added a striking backdrop. What I particularly liked was how the place felt calm and reflective, despite being a tourist spot. Entry is free, and wandering the terraces and stairs among the gardens was a relaxing change from the busy urban centre. On the flip side, preparing for the uphill walk and stairs is wise - I found myself glad I had comfortable shoes. Also, some parts of the interior are quiet worship areas where photography is not allowed, so it’s good to be mindful and respectful. I found that the staff were firm about those rules, and a little less engaged when I asked questions, which slightly dampened the experience. All in all, this temple is a strong “must-see” if you’re in Cebu and want something off the beaten track: visually beautiful, culturally rich, and peaceful. I’d recommend allocating about 45 minutes to an hour, and perhaps combining it with other sights nearby. Definitely worth it.

The Taoist Temple in Cebu is a cool, peaceful spot tucked up in the hills. Loved the colorful details, dragon statues, and calm vibe all around. Climbing up the steps felt like a mini adventure, and the view from the top is pretty awesome too. It’s quiet, not too crowded, and a great place to slow down for a bit. If you're into chill places with a bit of culture, it’s totally worth the stop.

Had a really nice visit to the Taoist Temple! Super quiet and peaceful, it had such a calming vibe. I honestly wanted to stay longer and take the time to pray, but dahil sa time constraints, di ko na nagawa. Sayang, but it’s definitely a place I’ll be visiting again next time. Perfect if you’re looking for a moment of peace away from the usual hustle. Highly recommend it for a quick retreat! 🙏🏼✨

November 2025 - my 4th visit and it never stops to amaze me... good thing they keep a good maintenance of this solemn place and best of all no admission fee. When visiting Cebu, this must be in the list. Whisper a prayer or wish in the temples or throw coins in the lucky pond or simply enjoy the high land and hills breeze and the panoramic view of the city.

Beautiful Architecture. It was difficult for me to learn anything about the temple or the belief system. I tried to ask someone about the Saint in their shrine and he had me sit down in front of his desk which had plexiglass. So there was a barrier between us and I could barely hear him. When I asked about the Saint he told me the name but didn’t elaborate any further, and just stared at me. I felt too awkward to ask other questions (that’s on me) so I thanked him and left. Later I went upstairs to another Shrine where there was another employee nearby. This employee was on his phone and when I said to him “excuse me I have a question…” he just looked at me disgustingly and waived his hand to shoo me away. I’ve never experienced that kind of rudeness in the Philippines. I was hoping that the gift shop might have some material or pamphlets but there was only figurines. Beautiful and quiet place but really strange vibe from the employees.

Magellan's Cross

Sights & Landmarks
Magellan's Cross, located in the heart of Cebu City, is a significant historical site marking the introduction of Christianity to the Philippines by Spanish explorers in 1521. The cross, encased in tindalo wood to prevent theft due to beliefs in its supernatural powers, is enshrined just outside the Basilica del Santo Nino. This iconic symbol represents the beginning of European conquest that shaped the country's history.
A key cultural and historical landmark in downtown Cebu is the Magellan's Cross. It is a historical and religious landmark located in Plaza Sugbo, Cebu City, Philippines, situated beside the Basilica del Santo Niño. It is housed within an octagonal stone kiosk, known as the Magellan's Cross Pavilion, constructed in 1834 during Spanish colonial rule using coral stone. The cross itself is believed to be the one planted by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan upon his arrival in Cebu on March 15, 1521, marking the beginning of Christianity in the Philippines. I remember when we were children we only read about it in books and we're taught about it in school. Now, we have the privilege to see it personally. Thank and Praises to God. We've been here last September 18, 2025 for a Land Tour.

"Magellan’s Cross – Cebu’s Historical Treasure" Magellan’s Cross in Cebu is truly a remarkable landmark that holds both historical and cultural significance. Located right in the heart of the city, this iconic site marks the very place where Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan planted the cross upon his arrival in 1521, symbolizing the introduction of Christianity to the Philippines. What makes the experience even more fascinating is that the original cross, centuries old, is still preserved today—safeguarded within a tindalo wood casing to protect it from damage. The small but beautifully painted chapel that houses the cross adds to its solemn and sacred atmosphere. Visiting Magellan’s Cross is like stepping back in time, allowing you to appreciate Cebu’s rich history and its pivotal role in shaping the nation’s faith and culture. It’s not just a tourist attraction but a meaningful reminder of the Philippines’ deep spiritual roots. Truly, a must-see when in Cebu!

Visiting Magellan’s Cross for the first time felt really special — like finally seeing a piece of history I’d only read about in textbooks come to life. Standing there beneath the iconic wooden cross inside the small chapel, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of awe and nostalgia. My childhood self, who used to memorize stories about Magellan and the first Christian baptism in the Philippines, was honestly so happy. The site may be small, but it carries such huge historical weight. The ceiling mural depicting the baptism of Rajah Humabon and Queen Juana adds to the experience — it’s simple yet powerful. I also love how the area is well maintained, with locals selling candles and sharing bits of history with visitors. It’s a short stop, but a meaningful one. Being there made me appreciate how much of our country’s story started right here in Cebu. Definitely worth visiting — not just for the history, but for that sense of connection to our roots.

That’s was one of the reason I stopped by in Cebu. The small chapel protects the wooden cross planted by Portuguese and Spanish explorers in 1521, marking the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines. Whether you’re a history lover or just exploring Cebu City, this spot is a must-see. Great experience.
Dmitry.ʎɹʇᴉɯp — Google review
Looking at the Magellan cross not only represents the faith of my dear religion Christianity, but also shows the beginning of colonialism by the Spaniards in 1521 using religion. During my visit to Cebu the Magellan cross symbolizes the beginning of Christianity of the Philippines in which our religion is still practiced today, but Spaniards use it for their own advantage for the Filipinos also. But today Christianity is not like that anymore and it's by pure faith and belief This cross represents both of these aspects and I was admired of the cross seeing it with my own eyes A much rather learning experience to me and my faith.

Interesting place. Visited on a Sunday and you could hear the mass in the adjacent place of worship. On this occasion it was closed the access to it so the photos are through a grated fence. Lots of children and touts trying to ask for money, but it is part of the culture and the charm of it all.
Mircea R — Google review
Great piece of history. Some negatives though are that it's in a place that's not really highlighted by is historical significance, the bar types that secure the cross is intrusive when taking pictures or viewing, and sellers hang around there negating the experience a little bit. Some alternatives would be to place less ornated bars, a security or police officer; especially since it's outside public office, and/or better explanation board to those that don't really know the importance of the object.
Tremain T — Google review
Well kept area. A lot of street vendors who are very appreciative of any busy you can give them. Fun trinkets and candles around. If you plan to visit the church just remember there is a dress code. No shorts, tight clothes, open shoes/sandals, caps, or graphic shirts

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Cebu, the Minor Basilica of the Holy Child of Cebu is a treasure trove of history and spirituality. Dating back to 1565, it proudly holds the title of being the oldest Roman Catholic church in the Philippines. This magnificent structure has withstood numerous trials, including devastating fires and earthquakes, leading to its reconstruction in baroque style during the 1700s.
A Gentle Pause at Basilica de Santo Niño, Cebu After our appointment at PSA Colon, we took a short walk to the Basilica de Santo Niño. It was my husband and kids’ first time there—a quiet milestone in our family’s journey. We didn’t stay long, just lit a candle and offered a silent prayer. But even in that brief moment, the place wrapped us in peace. A sacred stop, simple and grounding.
Ernelyn O — Google review
Visiting the Minor Basilica of the Holy Child in Cebu was a heartwarming experience for me. The moment I stepped inside, I felt a quiet sense of peace. Seeing the image of the Santo Niño up close filled me with awe—it’s amazing to think how many people have prayed here for hundreds of years. I spent a few moments in silence, just praying and thanking God for everything. It felt comforting, like I was being embraced by His presence. Watching other people light candles and whisper their prayers also reminded me how faith connects us all, no matter where we come from. That short visit left me feeling lighter and more grateful. It was a gentle reminder to trust more, pray more, and appreciate the blessings I often take for granted. Simple, but very meaningful.

The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu is one of the most beautiful and spiritually moving places I’ve ever visited. Stepping inside feels like entering a sacred part of Philippine history — it’s humbling to think this is the oldest Roman Catholic church in the country, built where the image of the Santo Niño was found in 1565. The atmosphere is peaceful yet powerful. You can really feel the devotion of the people — from the long lines of devotees lighting candles to those praying quietly inside the basilica. I also love how the blend of old and new architecture tells the story of faith that has endured for centuries. The open courtyard, the sound of prayers, and the smell of candles all add to that sense of reverence. It was an emotional experience for me. Seeing the Santo Niño up close reminded me of my childhood prayers and how faith can stay constant through time. Whether you’re religious or not, visiting the Basilica gives you a deep appreciation for Cebu’s culture, history, and unshakable faith.

Great great great. It is landmark in Cebu — peaceful, historic, and architecturally stunning. A wonderful stop for anyone exploring the heart of the city. The basilica complex is large and well-organized: the main church, the open-air mass area, the candle chapel, and the museum all give you a deeper sense of Cebu’s religious heritage. Even if you’re not very religious, it’s a fascinating place to experience culture, tradition, and history all at once.

Sto. Niño De Cebu is one of the best tourist spot here in cebu city. But more importantly, you need to respect the culture of cebu because its one of sacred church not a public tourist spot. Additionally, when a priest is talking please refrain yourself taking a pictures. To show a respect is not a demand but to show what kind of person you are in a strange place.
Tibas B — Google review
During my recent visit to the Basilica del Santo Niño with a friend, we experienced a deeply troubling incident. A stray black dog — which I had earlier seen being mistreated by a guard — bit my friend inside the church. There were multiple witnesses, including three guards and a nun. I had to step in to get the dog to release her, and my friend was bleeding significantly. What was most upsetting was not just the attack itself, but the response. No one offered assistance. No first aid kit was brought, no one inquired about her condition, and no staff member took initiative to help or even show concern. As a sacred and historic site, I would expect far greater care and professionalism from those responsible for visitor safety. The lack of empathy and preparedness we witnessed was alarming and disappointing. I sincerely hope the Basilica leadership takes this as a wake-up call to review their safety measures, provide proper training to staff, stock each guard and guard station with a first aid kit, and ensure compassion is shown to anyone in distress. Visitors deserve to feel safe and cared for in such a revered place.

Fort San Pedro

Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Fort San Pedro, a historic Spanish fortress dating back to 1738, is now home to a charming garden and museum. This impressive military bastion was meticulously constructed by Spanish conquistadors and stands as a testament to Cebu's grand past. As the oldest and smallest fort in the Philippines, it offers visitors a captivating journey through time, providing insight into the country's colonial heritage.
If you're a lover of history or simply looking for a peaceful yet captivating place to visit in Cebu City, Fort San Pedro is a must-see. As the oldest and smallest fort in the Philippines, it holds a powerful presence that echoes the rich Spanish colonial past of the country. Originally built as a military defense structure during the Spanish era, Fort San Pedro once served as a barracks for Spanish soldiers. Today, it stands proudly, retaining much of its original structure—thick coral stone walls, a commanding gate, and bastions that whisper stories of centuries gone by. Wandering through its well-preserved grounds feels like stepping back in time. The small museum inside offers artifacts, documents, and photos that give deeper insight into Cebu's vibrant past. It's not just a tourist spot—it’s a living piece of history. What’s even more fascinating is how the fort has been beautifully adapted for modern use. By night, the fort transforms into an enchanting venue often used for wedding receptions and special events. The blend of old-world charm and romantic lighting makes it an unforgettable setting—elegant, atmospheric, and deeply meaningful. Whether you're a history buff, a photographer, or someone looking for a quiet escape in the city, Fort San Pedro is a place where the past and present come together in a uniquely beautiful way.

Fort San Pedro in Cebu is a laid-back historic spot that’s worth a visit if you’re into old forts and chill walks. It’s not huge, but it’s full of charm, stone walls, leafy courtyards, and a nice peek into the city’s Spanish past. The vibe is relaxed, with lots of corners to explore and spots to just sit and take it all in. It’s right near the waterfront too, so it’s an easy stop while strolling around the area.
Dr. R — Google review
Great place. Great experience. I really enjoyed my visit. it’s one of those places where history, architecture, and peaceful atmosphere come together perfectly. Built during the early Spanish period, the fort is the oldest triangular bastion fort in the Philippines, and you can truly feel the heritage in every stone wall and corridor.
Dmitry.ʎɹʇᴉɯp — Google review
We came here for a quick tour to check it out. The entry is 30 pesos per person without a guide. I highly recommend you hire a guide. They get paid in tips so you can give what you feel is fair. The guide really made the journey worth it. Otherwise, we wouldn't have understood the history and whatnot as there aren't many infomative signs inside. All in all, it was a lovely 15-20 mins tour. If you have some time to spare, it's worth going through it. We did enjoy the walk and information. Our tour guide was very sweet and took nice pictures of us.

The Fort San Pedro in Cebu is a remarkable piece of Philippine history and one of the oldest surviving Spanish structures in the country. Built in 1565 under the command of Miguel López de Legazpi, it originally served as a military defense fort during the early years of Spanish colonization. Made from coral stones and hardwood, the fort has a distinctive triangular shape, with two sides facing the sea and one side facing inland to protect the early Spanish settlement from pirates and invaders. Over the centuries, Fort San Pedro has taken on many roles — from a stronghold of the Spanish military to an American barracks, a Japanese prison camp during World War II, and later a school and zoo after the war. Today, it stands as a historical park and museum, preserving artifacts, documents, and relics that tell Cebu’s long colonial and cultural story. Walking through the fort’s stone walls and courtyards feels like stepping back in time. The structure is well preserved, surrounded by gardens and overlooking the port area, offering a peaceful yet nostalgic atmosphere. It’s not just a tourist attraction but a symbol of Cebu’s resilience and rich heritage — a must-visit for anyone who wants to connect with the island’s fascinating past.

The no BS review. Fort San Pedro is a nice small piece of history in the heart of Cebu. The place was clean and had a lot of cute and clean cats just roaming around. Good place for taking pictures especially in the afternoon. I think the place lacks a bit of storytelling. There are historical pieces but not much else.
Carl C — Google review
This is a historical place which tourists and even locals could visit at least once. You can tour the place for more or less 30-45 minutes. I recommend you to wear comfortable attire as the place is not airconditioned. There is a gallery and souvenir shop as well. Entrance fee is affordable!

This place has always been fantastic. During the weekdays, it’s usually less crowded compared to the weekends, making it more enjoyable. The restrooms are clean and well-maintained, which is a plus. I appreciate that the management has installed bidets for people to use. They’re very popular among Filipinos, and using one makes the experience much more comfortable.

Security is a priority here, with thorough bag checks and safety measures that give me peace of mind while I shop and dine. Getting to the mall is easy since it's located in Cebu Business Park, but I’ve noticed that traffic can be quite heavy during peak hours. I always try to plan my visits accordingly to avoid the rush. Overall, Ayala Center Cebu is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to shop, dine, or simply relax. Ayala still remains as one of the luxurious malls in the City of Cebu, with a location in the Business Area of Cebu, near the Center of Cebu in Fuente is a very luxurious mall. Not only does it have the luxury brands and restaurants, it also has a terraces, and a outdoor area on the top floor designed for social gathering and activities. It is also near BPO and Office Buildings, and Condominiums. Considering its in the middle of the economic center. But all in all it's a great luxurious mall designed to shop and enjoy. Even though there are areas with ongoing renovation, it remains one of the high quality malls in the City of Cebu.

St. Peter the Apostle Parish - Bantayan

Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Nestled in Bantayan City, Central Visayas, St. Peter the Apostle Parish is a stunning testament to history and architecture that dates back to the Spanish era. Originally constructed in the 1600s, this remarkable church has stood for over 180 years and was once a crucial stop for Spanish priests arriving in the Philippines since 1580. The structure showcases exquisite coral stone craftsmanship adorned with intricate carvings, antique pews, and an impressive altar that transports visitors back in time.
Beautiful ceilings. Redone in 2019, this church dates back 500 years ago. Very beautiful
Noah W — Google review
Visited January 8th 2025 with 6 Family members. A wedding had just finalised and we entered the old church. Inside the religious murals on the ceiling are magnificent and quite spectacular. Taking photos or video recording the murals just doesn't capture the beauty and colours and artistry involved when you view this in person. I'm not even Catholic but Church of England, yet was inspired enough to donate money to the restoration of this church. I only gave this church 4 stars because, apart from the ceiling, the church needs more restoration to fix it up. Which is a crying shame as the Philippines government could provide more as from my point of view as a tourist this church is worth seeing and worth saving. More tourists = more money = more Filipino jobs.

It is currently getting a face lift by several dedicated Filipino artists that are balancing sky high on bamboo to meticulously hand paint every detail onto the ceiling of this church. I highly recommend coming to check out this piece of history, but don't forget your hand fan because it is very toasty inside!

Street parking available if you have cars. There were traffic constables around so just ask.
Sarah J — Google review
Originally built in the 1600's, the current church is about 181 years old by local fisherman that caused a shortage of fish and prompted the pope to exempt the island from no meat Friday rule, which stands till today. A visit to this church is like traveling in a time machine. I am amazed at how the church is preserved, from it's coral stone construction with carvings, to the old antique pews and the grand altar. I wonder what it was like for people coming in the 1800s. The most spectacular sight is the ceiling mural painted on the plain ceiling in 2018 thru 2019, and depicts the creation, fall of man, and redemption, by a group of talented artists. A must see.

Nestled on the serene shores of Bantayan Island, Sandira Beach is a tranquil retreat that promises an escape into nature's embrace. This hidden gem, often called Paradise Beach by locals, boasts fine white sand and crystal-clear waters that are perfect for snorkeling. As you stroll along the picturesque pathway leading to this secluded spot, you'll be captivated by its unspoiled beauty and calming ambiance.
Sandira Beach is a great destination for those seeking a peaceful and quiet seaside experience. It’s ideal for private visits or small group swimming outings, offering a calm and relaxing atmosphere away from the crowds. The entrance fee is reasonably priced at ₱70 for adults and ₱30 for children. The beach is open during the day and closes at 5:30 PM, so it's best to plan your visit accordingly. While the beach itself is serene, it’s not the best spot for watching the sunset. The view is partially obstructed by rock formations along the shore, which block the full beauty of the setting sun. If you’re specifically looking for a picturesque sunset experience, you may want to consider another location. However, for a quiet day by the sea, Sandira Beach is a solid choice.

I’d rate Sandira Beach 10/10. You won’t worry if you decide to swim with your barefoot as the sea is as clear as a still water. You can literally see the tiny fishes underneath. It’s def a beach that I’d always come back to. 🫶🏻

I'd give this 3 stars, when we visited the actual site the place was full of trash and dead seaweeds and leaves. There were no crowds so we were able to spend our time at the beach. When entering the actual Paradise Beach the roads were not develop considering we had to pay 70 pesos for the entrance fee. I mean, we all get it but at the very least they could have started a project to focus on the roadwork. It still a great experience though 😊

Fee - 150 pesos for entrance fee, 50 pesos for environmental fee, and 300 pesos for cottage . You will also be charged a port fee. Location - the place is just behind the Olango Island and it took us at least 1 hour to get there from Angasi Port. View - it's just basically a sand bar with a cottage. The place is best suited for families who want to enjoy themselves. If you prefer adventurous beach vibes, then this island is not for you. - The restroom has water but is not well maintained. - the island is underdeveloped and I hope they can improve more in the near future.

It was a pretty decent experience visiting this island while on an island hoping tour. It was relatively clean and they did offer cabanas for rent for you to have a meal while visiting. The waters surrounding the island were pretty clear. They also had some seafood for sale. Infrastructure wise they could improve as many of the structures looked dilapidated. Also note that there are many fees associated with visiting the island that add up such as visitor fee per person, environmental fee, cottage fee, etc.

Very friendly local. Thay have floating huts and bamboo board. Enjoy swimming in the crystal clear water and very white powdery sand. Cheers

I was a bit wary before coming here due to the mixed re views but I did enjoy it. It has a couple of beautiful beaches. Great for swimming. The snorkelling wasn't up to much but there was a couple of fish floating around. Price for drinks/food wasn't too bad. Cost for hiring the cabanas was too much so we didn't bother and just found a shaded spot on the beach. It's quite a little tourist trap but on saying that it was quite clean and pretty compared to some of the beaches on bantayan island. Would recommend for a day out.

Virgin Islands - nice place and beautiful beachline. You can do snorkling activities here. Lots of colorful fishes. You should come here during weekdays so that only few tourists are present so you get to have all the beach to yourselves.

MY FAVOURITE PLACE OF ALL IN MY ENTIRE VACATION IN CEBU ❤️❤️ the sand are soooo white and clean! The place is not that crowded. There are lots of activities to do there like beach volleyball, kayaking, snorkeling, etc. Plus life vests can be used for FREE! The seabed is not full of rocks so it's not slippery. They also have clean comfort rooms. They have a restaurant there and to my surprise its affordable and delicious! It's just the ambiance that I don't like cause its full of flies. But overall, we will definitely go back here! 👍🏻❤️

A must visit when in Bantayan. Accessible by rental boats from Bantayan Island. Entrance fees are as posted in the pictures and are actually reasonable (Php 200 for adults). Wrist bands will be issued upon admission. Admission staff are not so friendly, but lifeguards are. Lifeguards are everywhere and are very helpful. Island is privately owned and maintained hence the good services and general set-up of the place. There's a cliff diving spot some 10mins walk from the main activity area. If you want some little seclusion there's another coastline near the cliff diving area. They seem to also have a restaurant but haven't tried since we bought with us our food. There's overnight accommodation available and they are also quite reasonable in price. Will definitely go back and try their overnight accommodation and experience for myself. All in all Sillon Island, or Virgin Island as they advertise it, is a very safe place to be. During summer months be watchful of jellyfish though, they're quite painful if you happen to encounter one.

A stunning white sand beach. However, the island facilities must improve to accommodate all the local and foreign tourists.

Santiago Bay Beach is a spacious and inviting destination with its expansive white sand and clear waters. Visitors can rent umbrellas, tables, or snorkeling gear for a comfortable beach experience. The shallow waters near the shore make it safe for families with young children, while also providing opportunities to spot starfish and other marine life. The bay-like geography keeps the water warm close to the shore but becomes cooler further out.
The beach was absolutely stunning, with an incredibly wide expanse of soft, white sand. It was a relief to find no garbage littering the area, thanks to diligent maintenance by the government. Being open to the public meant everyone could enjoy the serene beauty and relax without any worries. It's definitely a spot I'd recommend for anyone looking to unwind and soak up some sun without the usual beach cleanup concerns.

One of the best beaches we have seen in a month of being all over the Phillipines , no rubbish for a change and cheap restaurants on the shoreline make for a relaxing day. Definitely a must visit if on island👍

One of the largest public beaches in Camotes Island. There are several resorts, restaurants and hotels around the area that can accommodate the tourists. The beach sand is golden - brown with an extensive shoreline. Parking and beach cottages are also available. Beach night life is alive especially during weekends.
Shad C — Google review
Just an average white sand beach. The only difference is that the water is shallow for the first 100 meters away from the shoreline. Combining with the bay-like geography (which restricts water flow) the water would be so warm (between 45°C during noon) making it unpleasant to swim. Unless you would go further away from the shore where water became deeper, then it would be colder.
K G — Google review
Nice and fairly large beach with white fine sand. Free admission and you can rent a table with an umbrella or a swimming mask or sit there in a bar. The water is really clean and you can see the starfish, other fish and the sea flora. It was never crowded. safe even for families with small children because a large part is shallow water. (especially at low tide) If you stay longer you can enjoy a nice sunset.
Darek T — Google review
Visited on July 29 until July 31, 2022. My review is a 2.5 but I can't do a .5 so a 2 will do. The sand is fine and feels great on my toes. The food stalls nearby are subpar, surprisingly there is only one stall that does cocktails. The karaoke is way too loud, considering how close all the stalls are. With a few drinks and a good meal, the karaoke does cease to annoy me. The meals are delicious and each order feeds a couple and maybe a small child. It lacks variety though, as every food stall sells about the same thing. There is a business that does snorkelling, and diving services which will add to your experience! The view is gorgeous and there is no entrance fee, however, the beach is littered with trash. It is by a river and gets flooded with human trash. During the high tide, the trash gets pushed up to the shore. It is an ugly sight. It is also unpleasant to swim amongst so much filth. They do make an effort to clean it up after the high tide. They push the trash in the corner and so the shore looks beautiful but it still gets washed back during the high tide. If it were cleaned more, it would be a more enjoyable experience. If you don't mind trash, it is okay.

The beach offers a picturesque spot for watching the sunrise and leisurely strolls, but be mindful of rope boats along the pathways.
Nice beach to sitting around while wacthing the sunrise and better place to run but must need to watch on every steps to avoid stumbled because there's a lot of rope boats tied across the pathways. And also it was fun running around due to the local dogs was run or played with you.🌞☺🙈🏃🌴🏝 BDW, bounty beach is not Hotel, It's a public beach✌

Lake Danao is a serene and picturesque destination on Camotes Island. The park offers pedal-boat rentals, tree-shaded grassy areas, and a scenic islet in the lake. Visitors can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with abundant shade from numerous trees and refreshing breezes. The park's vastness and the size of the lake are impressive, providing an ideal setting for nature lovers.
Lake Danao Park was undoubtedly the highlight of my vacation on Camotes Island! The park gives out a relaxed atmosphere with a abundant shade from numerous trees to shield you from the sun's heat, and the refreshing breeze adds to the charm. The park's vastness and the size of the lake were impressive. Upon arrival, we were the only visitors, affordable entrance fee, and the staff there were friendly. Inside the park, there are foods, but we only bought Buko Juice and Salvaro. I also encountered the most adorable dog here. Originally, we had only planned to enjoy the scenic beauty of Lake Danao, but our excitement soared when we discovered the pedal boats on the lake. The pedal boat only cost 50 pesos per person. This allowed us to truly experience the lake, rather than merely observing it. There was also a lengthy zipline that stretched across the lake, but we were on a budget so we decided not to. Our time at Lake Danao Park was genuinely enjoyable. If you're planning a visit to Camotes Island, be sure to include this park in your gaals! I highly recommend it.

It has some activities that you could try like horse back riding, water cycle and zipline. There is also a "salbaro" (local delicacy) which is a cracker with coconut syrup for 10 pesos and some fresh buko juice.
Majrie — Google review
Suggest to try their Zipline because you will be able to see the vast view of the lake. But I do hope they will expand it more and put more activities in the place. You can rent a boat for a round tour in the lake. Affordable entrance fee.

The place offers a lot of outdoor activities from water sports like kayaking, boat tour and they have also zipline, horse backriding and a souvinier shop. The place is perfect for instagrammable shots and the space so huge. The lake view is awesome you can see the entire view if you are in ziplining. For more epic vibes you may watch my vlogs on my channel at Jill Travenner.

If you want to chill and just be close with nature, Lake Danao is a great choice to go. There's a lot of activities you can do in the place such as Zip line across the other side of the lake for 250Php(rates may change), Kayaking, Pedal boat for two or four people. It was not commercialized tho but you could actually have fish spa with the fishes at the side of the lake. There were also some birds in the place. And if your famished with all the activities there's also a lot of available restau in the place for an affordable price
Franco — Google review
I love the place! You can do all kinds of water activities (kayaking) for as low as Php 50! They also have zipline (Php 200) where it takes you to the other side of the lake! They also serve food. This place is very relaxing. Definitely will go back if I visit the Islands again.

Kalanggaman Island is a hidden gem that has recently gained popularity for its stunning natural beauty. This petite paradise, located near Palompon, boasts pristine white sandy beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The island's highlight is its impressive 795-meter long sandbar, often celebrated as one of the finest in the Philippines. With no resorts or restaurants to disrupt the idyllic scenery, visitors can truly immerse themselves in nature’s tranquility.
can keep coming back and never get tired of this place! more worth it if you stay the night. keep in mind to go in summer. a little rain or too much wind can easily cancel boats from sailing to the island. walk the island end to end to see both sandbars. cheaper if you DIY. tents and loungers are available for rent on the island. great place to snorkel as well. keep within sight of people of the lifeguard.
Raz B — Google review
My first island visit and it did not let me down. We rented a charter boat to take us here. Brought out own lunch and rented one of the huts on the island. The water was a nice super clear and clean and the sand bar was visible that day.The island is peaceful and never felt overcrowded, making it perfect for those looking to escape the hustle of city life. Whether you're swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, or just relaxing under the palm trees, there’s a sense of calm and serenity that's hard to describe. What stood out most was how well-preserved the island is—credit to the locals and caretakers who clearly take pride in keeping it clean and sustainable. We brought our own food for a beach picnic and left only footprints, which added to the authentic island experience. If you're planning a trip to the Philippines, don’t miss Kalanggaman. It’s truly a hidden gem that deserves all the praise it gets!

The sand here is whiter than the other island I've been to. I did not manage to see the long sand bar just a half of it since it appeared only in late afternoon. I only had a day tour on the island. I enjoyed exploring the island alone. Hehe.

Kalanggaman Island is absolutely stunning! The white sand, crystal-clear waters, and peaceful atmosphere make it a perfect spot to unwind and connect with nature. The long sandbar is a must-see — great for photos and a relaxing walk. Boats are organized, and the locals are friendly. Don’t forget to bring your own food and water. One visit is definitely not enough — I’ll be back for sure! 🌊🏝️
Crystal A — Google review
Kalanggaman Island is easily one of the most beautiful small islands with a sandbar that I’ve visited so far. It features pristine white sand, crystal-clear waters, and is a great spot for diving and snorkeling. The famous sandbar only appears during low tide, so it’s best to plan your trip accordingly—locals are quick to advise timing your visit just right. While there’s a small store on the island for basic food, most tour packages already include lunch. Just make sure to bring your own drinking water, as fresh water is limited on the island. Overnight stays are possible, but be aware that your return depends on boat availability. If there are no boats scheduled, you might end up waiting until a tour boat from Cebu arrives. There are designated snorkeling areas, but exercise caution—currents near the sandbar can be quite strong. If you're lucky, you might even spot dolphins swimming between Malapascua and Kalanggaman, which is a magical bonus to the trip. Overall, Kalanggaman is a must-visit destination—just come prepared and time your trip well for the best experience.
Edward H — Google review
Incredible island and beautifully well kept by locals, definitely recommend a boat trip here. Clearest water I’ve ever seen, make sure you walk to both ends of the island. The end where the boats don’t go is a great spot for snorkelling.

Tinago Falls

Waterfalls
Driving from Naval city over the mountains is one of the most beautiful scenery. As in all the the natural attractions, there's no road signage. The road is concrete right down to the parking lot. We paid 40 pesos for 2 people and 10 pesos for parking. Nicely maintained with concrete stairs down to the water and cross a like bamboo bridge. Then walk a few hundred feet over rocks to the base of the falls. We swam in the cold water but wasn't overly cold. Will go back again.

Tinago Falls is a must-visit waterfalls in Biliran Island. It offers easy accessibility with a spacious parking area and well-maintained facilities, including clean restrooms, changing rooms, and a guard house for added security. The refreshing cold water of the falls is perfect for a dip.
Latagaw C — Google review
I give it 2 stars. Though the view is great and the water quality, it’s sad to see that the management don’t practice proper waste disposal. I did see a dump of trash behind the toilet and it’s the only disposal they have just right beside the river itself. How can we promote Eco tourism when we ourself cannot do the things that should properly be done. The Provincial Government of Biliran can do better than this.
Bryle N — Google review
If you are in Biliran, this is a must-visit falls especially if you have your own vehicle, since the place is already accessible. There's an environment fee and a parking fee, I just wonder why the locals need to ask for a parking fee. Anyway, the falls is beautiful, I think they also offer accommodation there.

Nothing to rave about. The area is inhospitable to foreigners which makes the bridge that much less worthy of getting any attention. Just a stupid bridge in a stupid area. Oh, and I was scammed by the woman beside me in the picture. Waste of time effort and money to go there to just be taken advantage of when you only ever had good intentions. I will never go back there.

Beautiful truss-design bridge that lights up at night after dusk. There was no prominent viewing area promoted but we found one (see the pic)...you have to go down a road that runs next to the bridge (on the opposite side to the Polytechnic) that takes you to an area where you cross back under the bridge and along a walk way (see pic). The viewing area is really nice and right on the water, making for a great view of the bridge as the sun goes down. We were told there was a light show of different colours and spotlights but the bridge just stayed the same colour (purple) the entire time we were there so didn't see any light show.

Constructed during the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos through Japanese Official Development Assistance loans, it has a total length of 2.16 kilometers (1.34 mi)—the second longest bridge spanning a body of seawater in the Philippines after the Cebu-Cordova Bridge. It was also the longest bridge in the Philippines upon its opening in 1973, surpassed in 1976 by Candaba Viaduct of North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), another bridge that connects from one province to another, connecting the provinces of Pampanga and Bulacan. Its longest length is a steel girder viaduct built on reinforced concrete piers, and its main span is of an arch-shaped truss design.

We crossed the bridge both in the daylight and nighttime to have a better look and experience of this great structure. I suggest you should also pass by it by night as it has better visuals with its colorful lights and you can pose for more photos as it’s less crowded compared in the morning. Just be cautious on passing vehicles and be reminded to be fast for cars are not allowed to stay for too long.

Nestled in Palo, the MacArthur Leyte Landing Memorial National Park stands as a poignant tribute to a pivotal moment in history—the landing of General Douglas MacArthur and Allied Forces on October 20, 1944. This protected area not only commemorates the liberation of the Philippines from Japanese occupation but also showcases impressive bronze statues that tower over visitors, capturing the essence of that historic day. Among these larger-than-life sculptures are representations of key figures who participated in this monumental event.
A must place to visit when in Tacloban, a nice view of the sea, fresh air, good for jogging, hang out and food trip...also it reminds us of our history...(note: its under renovation/maintenance as of today)

It was pouring when we visited and there was ongoing construction in one area but still a beautiful memorial. I appreciate the signs and mini history lessons. The park is huge and well maintained. It has enough parking across the street, has a security guard and everything is clean.

The Santo Niño Shrine and Heritage Museum, located in Tacloban City, Leyte, is a significant historical and cultural landmark. Established in 1990, it aims to preserve and showcase the rich history and traditions of the Philippines, particularly the veneration of the Santo Niño. The museum boasts an impressive collection of historical artifacts, antiques, religious objects, and artwork that reflect the deep Catholic faith and cultural heritage of the Filipino people.
We recently revisited this place in 2024, and overall, there haven’t been many changes compared to our visit six years ago. Here’s what I observed: What I Liked Rich Historical Value: This location remains a great place to visit for anyone interested in history. Its significance and stories continue to make it a meaningful destination. Final Thoughts Despite the lack of noticeable changes over the years, this is still a wonderful place to visit, especially for those who appreciate historical landmarks. It’s a timeless destination that’s worth recommending to others!

Was here in 2017 and it has declined tremendously. The ground floor was soaked in flood water in last year's typhoon and it has damaged so many of the rooms, furniture and walls. The 2nd floor was also damaged by strong winds and broke windows, curtains rails etc. There is a fee of 200 per person for a guided tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable of the items in the shrine and the best places to take photos. It was surprising to know that the Marcos family has never stayed at this house. Imelda Marcos built this to store her items, mostly were given as "gifts " by world leaders. It's sad that this property is not being taken cared of well.

This is a sequestered Marcos family mansion turned into a museum. The design is very lavish, with most of the decorations being imported or gifted. Guided tours are available daily from 8 am to 5 pm at Php 150/adult.

A trip to Tacloban will not be complete without visiting the Santo Nino Shrine and Heritage Museum or the Romualdez mansion. In here one would learn to appreciate the beautiful taste of Imelda Marcos or for others frown at the extravagant way of life. The Chinese vases and porcelain , ivory artifacts, religious items are of high quality and with stickers of the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) which meant they were part of the assets seized after the Edsa revolution. I just wonder though if we have updated appraisal of the value of everything inside including several Malang paintings that were part of the artworks displayed in the rooms inside the museum. The Malang paintings were no longer in display but I saw them in 2019. Per the volunteer tour guide the Malangs were put in the storage during the pandemic. For a minimal fee of 150 per person this is a good deal. One may also opt to have a tour guide which I found better than going on our own since the guide will be able to give insider info on some historical tidbits like it was there where George Hamilton danced with Imelda Marcos. Highly recommended when in Tacloban especially for lovers of antiquity and student of history. #museum #SantoNinoShrine #ImeldaMarcos #chineseporcelain #whenInTacloban P.S. some of the photo captions were generated through the use of google lens.

This is basically a "showroom" of Imelda Marcos. The tour guide said the Marcos family never lived here. There are more than 20 rooms. This is currently managed by an NGO and still controlled by PCGG. The entrance fee is P150 per person. However, the showroom is very dusty and lacks proper maintenance. Visiting this place, triggers a lot of opinions and questions in our minds.

I initially thought this place was a shrine, but it is actually a museum of Marcos’ wealth with an altar inside. During our visit, we paid a 150-peso entrance fee and were immediately assigned a guide. We passed by the altar, and the guide highlighted rooms with different motifs. The furniture collection is quite impressive, as they came from different parts of the world. The museum is spacious, and the hallways are well-maintained, but the rooms, especially on the ground floor, need restoration. Overall, we left impressed and might recommend it to our friends visiting Tacloban.

It's the first time I visited the place and I must say that I'm thankful I went there. You won't regret going there if you're up for old and historical stuff.
