Visitors can hold snakes, lizards, and other creatures while also enjoying surprise visits from cuddly friends. The park features play facilities both indoors and outdoors for younger visitors. Guests can also explore the tropical aquarium on-site. Additionally, there are engaging talks about the animals as well as a pirate ship and castle park to enjoy.
Ask about the experiences! We've been visiting for a few years, and we decided to book the experience for our Daughter's birthday, and it was phenomenal value. From start to finish, she felt so special. We got up close feeding many of the animals, and got very personal talks about the animals. Jess was amazing, and the passion shines through from all the staff. They do so much work for conservation, and rescue. If you can't do the experience, make sure you join the talks as you will see a lot of feeding and also hear some very interesting information and the stories behind the animals. They do need the visitors to help them fund the work they do, and you will not regret visiting. You also get to see how the local community and businesses help them. Also great parks for the kids to play on.

Excellent small zoo. Spacious grounds, very helpful and friendly staff and great talks by the keepers. Amazing play areas both indoors and outdoors, with a cafe serving light meals, snacks and drinks at reasonable prices. Would highly recommend a visit.
Lynne D — Google review
We had the best few hours here today. The zookeepers were so friendly and knowledgeable, the animals are all clearly very well cared for and there is so much space for little ones to run and play. Would definitely return!
Rebecca S — Google review
We had such a fun day here. There was more than I thought there would be. We went on a Wednesday, pretty quiet, we didn’t wait long to get in, 5 minutes or so, and didn’t buy tickets in advanced. You can do that if you wish but it doesn’t make much difference. £16.50 (Adult ticket) Really enjoyed the talks, they were very informative and the staff were lovely, it was nice being able to ask questions and become more educated on some of the animals there. We ended up staying from opening to closing, attending every talk. I definitely recommend this zoo as it educates us on the conservation of wildlife.
Caroline L — Google review
Brilliant little zoo! Highly recommend going to all the talks about the animals, highly knowledgeable keepers and entertaining talks too. The talks allowed us to get a good view of the animals that were otherwise snoozing out of sight as the keepers feed them as they do the talk encouraging the animals to come out. It was such a hot day when we went we probably wouldn't of had much of a chance to see the serval and bobcat if we didn't attend the talks/feeds for them. Amazing play areas for children! There's a large indoor one in the cafe and a couple of outdoor ones too. Café food was good and staff were lovely. We had so much fun there, highly recommend going if you're in the area!
Marie B — Google review
The kind and knowledgeable keepers and volunteer team were a stand-out feature of our afternoon at the park. There was an impressive array of animals, some of which you can see up close far more than other zoos. I strongly recommend attending the keeper sessions throughout the day, as you learn more about the animals and get to see them in action whilst they enjoy their food. The choir of adorable shrieking otters and the famous bobcat Bode were two favourites.
Alex E — Google review
A nice collection of animals, both outdoors and indoors, great play areas for children and not hugely expensive. We went recently, haven't been since a child, and it was a pleasant time. We spent around 3 to 4 hours walking round and I'm sure we would have been longer in the summer time. Lots to see inside the buildings with fish, snakes, spiders, crocodiles and more. A good mix of indoor animals. We went to the 2pm show to touch and hold different animals which included a snake, ferret and a bearded dragon. The daughter (1Y 8M) loved it and the handlers were great. They took care of the animals as the ferret got agitated, so they took it away to ensure the animal was happy. Much better than forcing the animal to be seen. Hats off to the handlers. It was quite fun walking around with the peacocks walking around, made the place feel closer to the animals. The play areas were great, but felt it was geared more towards older children as the inside play area didn't offer much for young children. I would definitely come again in the warmer months of the year but felt like we got our moneys worth going even when cold. The staff were nice and greeting and couldn't fault the experience at all. We will be going again!
Ben G — Google review
We arranged for our son to have the 1 hour zoo keeper experience as a 6th birthday treat and what a treat it was… he had the most amazing time. Sam really ensured our son was enthralled and got the most of our time with the selection of animals. He was super knowledgeable and explained everything so that the children understood. Would highly recommend such a fabulous experience for the children to get involved in. Thank you again Sam for making our boys birthday one he’ll remember.

Castle
Dunster Castle and Watermill, managed by the National Trust, is a captivating blend of medieval castle, Jacobean mansion, and Victorian family home. Situated on a wooded hillside with stunning views of Dunster village and Exmoor National Park, this historic site offers a fascinating journey through time. Visitors can explore its collection of antiques and artifacts, including unique leather wall hangings depicting the love story of Antony and Cleopatra.
Such a lovely village, and the structure itself is breathtaking. It's been renovated several times over the years so it's more of a modern old-school mansion as opposed to an old castle (husband is more interested in Norman castles), but it was still really cool to walk around and the views were absolutely amazing. The village itself has so much charm too.
Keira L — Google review
Dunster Castle is magical and so incredibly beautiful. We visited it on a beautiful summer day, the kids loved the outdoor games and the bat trail activity. The castle inside is very well cared for and the gardens are a dream to explore. Highly recommend. Tickets can only be bought on site :)
Raquel D — Google review
Fantastic building in an amazing location. Extremely rare leather and silver leaf paintings are breathtaking. Extensive gardens; steep in parts with a great kids play area. The mill was an added bonus. Well maintained, producing and selling their own flour with a super cafe nearby.
TWR — Google review
Historically amazing place, the castle was very interesting and well looked after. We enjoyed learning about it's history. The shops however were lacking gluten free options and we had to leave early to get food elsewhere.
Ewa W — Google review
The village surrounding the castle is beautiful, and lovely to walk through on the way to the castle including the secret garden ran by the castle gardener. Just be aware there are some rather steep slopes to walk up. There are a few cafes that do cream tea outside the castle and also museums and shops. Once actually in the castle grounds there are also lots of slopes to walk up and down to access different areas. There is lots of information about the castle and how it came to be what it is today and also some original features. The views from the castle are wonderful and can see for miles. There is parking for the castle and also other parking nearby if needed. There is a watermill that is still operating which they use to make flour, you can also buy this in the shop as well as other local produce.
Marissa B — Google review
What a great place. Very well kept. Fantastic gardens all around the castle and down to the Watermill. The gardens down to the mill are fantastic for children. If you are going to see Dunster properly, it will take a good 4 hours. Great Cafe at the Mill as well, which is all in working order.
The L — Google review
A really beautiful castle with stunning views from the top of the hill. The water mill is a must visit too and it’s a lovely stroll through the village to get there!
Rebecca S — Google review
Look out for the secret passage! We've visited many times,we go to buy the milled oats and flour ground at the mill once or twice a week. Dunster is a lovely little place.

If you're looking for a peaceful start to your day, Barry Island beach is a fantastic spot to catch the sunrise. The golden sands of Whitmore Bay stretch out in a beautiful crescent, and in the quiet morning hours, you'll be treated to a stunning view as the sun rises, casting a warm glow over the water. You can enjoy a tranquil walk along the promenade, which is wide and well-kept. The air is fresh, and the only sounds are the gentle lapping of waves and the calls of the birds. It's the perfect time for a quiet stroll or a moment of reflection before the hustle and bustle of the day begins.

Great place to visit with the family. It is very clean and offers various attractions such as rides, games, or playgrounds. There is even a beach so you can enjoy and relax if the weather is great. Plenty of food options available (Halal food too). Would happily come back.

One of the most cleanest and looked after beaches I've ever visited. If your a fan of Gavin and Stacey this has the arcade that Nessa worked at. Stacey's house is five minutes away and Pam and Mick's house is ten minute drive away.
Paul C — Google review
Great place if you like fairground rides, crazy golf and arcades. Nice beach, wasn't too crowded. Could remember scenes from Gavin & Stacey, Nessa's slot machines etc. 😊

A few good white knuckle rides payed for by tokens, kiddies rides and amusement arcades etc, everything you'd expect basically.

Lovely day! We went to Jackson Bay as we had our dog, and we all had a lovely time. We walked along the beach front; it was very busy and loud. Lots of places to eat and a couple of toilet blocks.

St. Fagans National Museum of History

History museum
Museums
St. Fagans National Museum of History offers a unique open-air experience showcasing the history of Welsh life. Since 1946, the museum has carefully relocated buildings from across Wales to create an immersive historical landscape on the grounds of St Fagans Castle. Visitors can explore a variety of reconstructed structures, including 19th-century ironworkers' cottages, a tannery, bakehouse, village store, schoolhouse, tollhouse from 1771, and more.
St. Fagans National Museum of History: More Fun Than You'd Think! Let me tell you, if you're ever near Cardiff, you have to go to St. Fagans. It's not a stuffy museum at all. It's this awesome outdoor village with a bunch of real houses and buildings from all over Wales that they moved here. You get to walk right inside and see what life was really like hundreds of years ago. We saw a baker making bread, a blacksmith working on some metal, and a rug maker making a rug out of sheep's wool, right in front of us—it was so cool to see how they do it. And at the heart of it all is a really beautiful old manor house—it's like a small palace! The gardens around it are stunning and perfect for a relaxing walk. The best part is that it's completely free to get in! You only have to pay for parking, so it's a super cheap day out. You can just wander around, have a picnic, and explore everything. Seriously, you should go!
Maha A — Google review
A fantastic place to spend all day. You can just walk around, do some rope activities or just be stunned at the beauty. For both indoorsy and outdoorsy people. There are 2 stunning art galleries and suitable for children too. I absolutely loved it and it is free. No tickets and no need to buy a map. The signs are everywhere and you can not be lost. There are some pubs locally but they were so full for lunches we had to wait for an hour! Not worth the price so bring your lunch and drinks unless you want to definitely try fish and chips in-house or go to the restaurant located at the start of your journey but that has a very poor review. Overall an amazing day out. On a windy day wear layers & definitely warm yourself up by walking around.
Aasma F — Google review
Really nice afternoon out. It's free so I won't be too harsh but it would benefit from some more information dotted about. Lots of stuff was shut which is understandable in the middle of the week etc but wish it was clearer before walking around. Most of the buildings were shut or empty. But the ones with the volunteers were great. Loved the fire going in the farmhouse it makes it feel real. Should be more info on the process of how i the buildings were moved as that's fascinating in itself!
Jack — Google review
This museum is very much like a cultural theme park, reconstructing historical buildings from around Wales within a beautiful landscape. The staff are not only extraordinary friendly and welcoming, but seem genuinely kind and patient. Many families come with young children and the site provides good entertainment for kids. On top of that, it is free to enter. This is definitely one of the greatest places in Cardiff.
James H — Google review
We had a lovely day here. Definitely worth a visit. We were a group of 12 with 2 dogs, and our ages ranged from 12 to 81 and they all enjoyed the walks from house to house. It was also lovely to listen to the members of staff with all their knowledge. I knocked a star off the experience due to not being able to take the dogs in for cooked food in the main restaurant. A member of staff told us that we could eat in the cafe the other end of the estate. Once we got there, it was only pre packed sandwiches and cakes. We wanted cooked food. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable day
T B — Google review
Parking here is £7 for the whole day or free for blue badge holders. I've been here a few times but think it's amazing how old buildings have been taken down n rebuilt exactly as the stood before the vulcan pub is finished and sells alcohol bur it looks amazing and the shops are a blast from the past the place is massive but so peaceful also seeing how our ancestors lived compared to today is mind blowing would recommend visiting if never been before .
Angela H — Google review
Wonderful Museum! each building is interesting and immerses you into the past. it’s free and perfect for a day out for all ages. Bring a pack lunch! the only expense was £7 for all day parking and some gift shop goodies.
Rosie L — Google review
We had a great experience at the Museum. Lovely main building with ample parking and facilities. It has a big food court too. The main attraction was the Welsh houses in the complex. They depict the ancient Welsh life effectively. Must have taken a lot of effort to relocate and rebuild these iconic buildings.

Quince Honey Farm

Honey farm
Nature & Parks
Quince Honey Farm, established in 1949, has grown from just two hives to become the world's largest collection of honey bees. Visitors can enjoy interactive displays offering close-up views of the hives and the honey-making process. The farm also features a soft play area for kids, a cafe, shop, and a small museum showcasing old beekeeping equipment.
Wow! So this is my new favourite place and I so wish it was closer to me as we live in Cornwall. We have been wanting to visit for a while as my daughter is called Honey and loves all things bees so we treated her after SATS week. We had such a lush day, the place is small but so well thought out and all the activities and talks are delivered excellently with lots of oppourtunities to ask questions. We loved watching the beekeepers with the bees and learning about beekeeping and the candle making was fun. All of your staff were the high point, friendly and knowledgeable and a well done to the new team member learning the ropes who was so sweet. My kids ages 11 and 8 had a great time and I had a great time in the gift shop. Kicking myself now that I didn't buy a bee throw! Lol. Thanks for an amazing day out. .highly recommended:)
Tami ( — Google review
This was a truly wonderful experience for both adults and children. A beautiful setting with flowers and gardens and fascinating talks and interactive sessions. Our daughter loves bees and got to find out more about them, taste honey and get involved with candle rolling and planting seeds. The staff were wonderful from the moment we walked in. From the greeting through to the lovely ladies going through the talks. They went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience. We spent an afternoon on our way back from holiday but could have easily spent a day. We have factored this in for another visit next year.
Peter D — Google review
This is a wonderful place. Got a full ticket and really enjoyed the interactive talks and things to do around the place. The shop is well priced and the staff all seem really friendly. The food is also good - I didn't check the play area, but it seemed popular.
Stephen M — Google review
We had a fantastic day at Quince Honey Farm…it offers something for all ages. The bee demo, candle making, talks and honey tasting (all included in the entrance fee) were highlights. The café deserves a special mention too; clean, very reasonably priced, speedy service and legendary cheese scones! It would have been lovely to see a queen bee during the demo (sadly they didn’t spot one that day) and perhaps a live hive link or glass observation hive would add even more to the experience. We also hoped to try the honeycomb, which wasn’t available. That said, there was still so much to enjoy. Both the indoor play area and the spacious outdoor areas gave the children plenty to do, while the talks and tasting kept the adults engaged. We visited with ages ranging from 7 to 83, and genuinely everyone found something to enjoy. A tip: plan for either the morning or afternoon session, as the talks run twice a day; check timings so you don’t miss the ones you want. Well worth a visit and one we’d happily recommend.
Victoria K — Google review
We spent a few hours here with two of our grandsons (aged 9 & 8). It's a delightful place to visit. The programme of sessions were highly interesting and we learned a lot about bees and honey. There is plenty to do for children and adults alike. I highly recommend Quince Honey Farm, it's a great place to visit
Steve D — Google review
Fascinating afternoon at the honey farm. Georgia was a brilliant host who took us through seeds, beekeeping, curious creatures, honey tasting and candle making with good humour and a wealth of knowledge. Would have stayed for a bite to eat at the cafe but they were closing. Great place to visit rain or shine
Beelez 1 — Google review
Very good experience! Upon arrival we had access to a leaflet with the details of workshops, had an opportunity to taste different kinds of honey and learn al about bees. We made wax candles, and I held a stick insect! It was very cute and I’m pretty sure it was called Sticky. I love bugs so i was delighted to find this out. We had scones and cream tea- the scones were hot and fresh and possibly the most delicious scones I have EVER had. The only downside was that a bee flew in and got very excited over my honey that I had with my scones. I didn’t want to hurt it so I ate my scone pretty fast so it could fly away.
Tin H — Google review
Overall this was a good day out, but I do think it is overpriced for what you get. There are talks throughout the day, but not much to do if you don't like attending talks. The soft play was good though and was suitable for older children. I would suggest you get there from opening to make the most of the talks, the first one was at 10.30am and continued every half an hour. The cafe was ok priced and not overly busy. The other slightly disappointing thing was the cost of the honey ranging from £7-£9 for 227g. I would have liked to buy a few, but only ended up buying the one due to the price!! We enjoyed the day, but I can't help but think it was very expensive! It wasn't very busy mid holiday season, so guessing the price puts others off going there too.

Castle
Castell Coch is a stunning 19th-century Gothic Revival castle located in South Wales, surrounded by picturesque woods. It's often described as a fairytale turreted retreat and is considered one of the most beautiful castles in Cardiff. The interiors are equally impressive and have been restored and maintained by Cadw. Visitors can enjoy audio tours to learn about the castle's history and details, while artists in residence display their work on-site.
We didn’t get inside since it was closed, but just walking around the exterior of Castell Coch was amazing. The castle looks like it jumped right out of a storybook, with its turrets and detailed stonework. The grounds are lovely to stroll, and the views from around the castle are great too. Definitely worth a visit, even if you can only admire it from outside.
K E — Google review
This castle was going through renovations due to leak noted in their last survey. Lovely rooms in a romantic fairy tail way, it includes aspects of bygone days. There are not many rooms, but the rooms that you do see are beautiful and detailed.

Such a beautiful place, gorgeous surroundings and an absolutely lovely little castle with amazing designs and rooms. Perfect for couples or families. Lots of steps so wear sensible shoes.
Erika Y — Google review
A real treat if you're interested in the Victorian Gothic revival. You can clearly see the early signs of art nouvelle, especially in the flower panels with thier obvious debt to Japanese woodblock prints. I found the depictions of aesop's fables unforgettable.
Leo B — Google review
Absolutely magical place, especially in autumn. The castle rises out of the woods like something from a storybook, surrounded by golden and crimson leaves. The setting feels peaceful and other-worldly — perfect for a quiet walk or photos. Inside, the castle is beautifully restored, full of rich Victorian Gothic detail and colour. Each room is full of character and imagination. The climb up the turrets gives lovely views through the trees across the valley. The surrounding forest trails are stunning this time of year, carpets of leaves, soft light through the trees, and that crisp autumn air. Easy to spend a couple of hours just wandering and soaking it all in. Parking is easy, and staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
Sylwia P — Google review
Enjoyed the walk around the castle. Sadly there was a bit of restorations happening, but, was good to see it being restored. Helpful and friendly staff willing to answer questions and tell interesting fact about films that have been and are going to be filmed at the castle

Dont miss the opportunity to visit this hidden gem. Definitely have the Audio guide thats included in the very reasonable ticket price. I have deliberately not shared my photos of the internals as these are amazing to see and should remain a surprise until your visit. Particuarly lovely to visit in the Autumn with all the surrounding trees.

Super awesome castle to visit. It is built mostly like a traditional defence castle, but it was really a posh fancy show-off castle for the rich dudes who built it (Marquess of Bute and others after). The listening tour is great and has lots of historical facts but not too overboard. We were there for about 2 hours in total. The views from the castle of Cardiff and the bay are to die for too!

Visitor center
The Royal Mint Experience is an engaging and educational museum that delves into the history of coin production, from ancient times to the present day. Visitors can learn about the entire process of creating coins, from raw materials to finished currency, including foreign coins. Weekend tours offer a unique opportunity to step onto the factory floor, while weekday tours provide a behind-the-glass view of operations. The experience includes detailed demonstrations of smelting, rolling, metal preparation, and coin stamping.
A great experience walking amongst the machines (no photography allowed in this area) which make the money and fascinating to learn how much work goes into minting a coin. There is also a comprehensive museum you can visit at the end. Plenty of parking, although, not well signposted. Best buy tour tickets in advance. Allow at least 2 hours.

Fantastic day at the Royal Mint Experience. We decided to do the tour with lunch and strike our own coin included. Our guide, Tommy was fantastic, spoke very well and could answer all questions. We were very lucky as we got to see some £1 coins being made. The lunch voucher was excellent. We had £25 total for two. We got a huge plate of food, drink and snack for journey home. We chose the vegan burger which was delicious. Striking our own coin was fun and gave us a great souvenir to take home with us. I expected to see more coins available for sale in the shop but it was mostly gift items related to the themes of their recent commemorative coins. Overall a great day.

What a fantastic experience, booked it for my Mum's 85 surprise, the first person I met was on reception at the shop, (missed her name) long dark wavy hair, was also our guide later in the day, she was amazing, it made the whole experience very special, we had a beautiful Welsh stew for lunch and visited the factory and stamped our own coin, were able to browse the exhibition, very professional and even have my mum a gift. Thankyou for a wonderful day 👏 👏👏 various tours are available, we enjoyed the experience with lunch, afternoon tea also available. 😄

Really enjoyable from the welcome, the tour and cafe. Our tour guide was, Dan, who was very knowledgeable with a good sense of humour. It's a very interesting tour taking in the whole history of the Mint. Our ticket included the strike your own coin - this changes every six weeks. No photos whilst on the tour. Very nice cafe with good coffee, good menu at very reasonable prices. Nice shop, WCs and large free car park. Would recommend.

The Royal Mint Experience was very good. The tour walking through the machine area was interesting and the young man giving out the information was very knowledgeable. We actually made a £2 coin on the day which we now have as souvenir. There is a cafe and toilets on site and a very large museum for you to visit. No photographs allowed on the tour

I really enjoyed visiting the Royal Mint. The guide was very knowledgeable and informative throughout the tour. Seeing where the coins are made in the factory was interesting. You can mint your own coin. The exhibition was really well put together and showed lots of history of coin making, with exhibits of coins, medals and equipment used to priduce them. There's a lovely shop where you can purchase coins and other gifts from. The staff were friendly, and you can eat and drink in their friendly restaurant. Overall a superb day out.

Had a really enjoyable visit to the Royal Mint. Tom the tour guide was excellent, really knowledgable and engaging. The tour was fascinating, even without the production on the day you got to learn exactly how the coins in our pockets are made. The gift shop was well stocked if not a little expensive but the cafe was a real gem. Delicious, well made food and great value for money. All the staff were happy and friendly too. All in all an excellent few hours.

Exmoor Zoological and Conservation Centre, located in North Devon, is a family-oriented zoo with over 200 species. The zoo offers handling experiences and daily talks featuring pumas, marmosets, lemurs, and other animals. Visitors can see a variety of wildlife from around the world including black leopards, spiders, otters, wallabies, lynx, cheetahs and more. The natural-style enclosures provide an up-close experience with the animals.
Great place to see some pretty awesome and rare animals and birds. The only shoebill in the country and she didn't disappoint. The panther, the puma, the cheetahs, all amazing. The wolves and other dogs are just brilliant to see. There was plenty of parking on arrival. The facilities within the park were fine. The wee cafe was OK, the not the greatest , and neither the worst. There was animal handling and informative shows at various points throughout the day. Which were well worth attending. All in all, it was a great day.

We had a brilliant day out at Exmoor Zoo and would highly recommend it to families and visitors of all ages. The range of animals is fantastic, and we were able to see them all during our visit. They all appeared well cared for and happy in their enclosures, which was lovely to see. The zoo is also very inclusive, with excellent accessibility features, including widgets with images to help those with SEND communicate and engage more easily with the experience. This thoughtful touch made the visit even more enjoyable and welcoming. The staff were incredibly friendly, approachable, and always happy to help with any questions. Another highlight was the short nature walk, which takes only around 15 minutes but is very peaceful and definitely worth doing. It’s a great way to enjoy the surroundings beyond the animal enclosures. Overall, Exmoor Zoo offered us a wonderful day out full of memorable experiences, we would definitely return!

Visited Exmoor Zoo today, even though it rained on and off, a great place to visit. Amazing amount of animals to see, with plenty of room in their enclosures. Well worth a visit, at a reasonable price. Cafe ok, but could do with more of a selection of warm food and cakes(A Chef/Cook would be nice) Overall experience was very good. Nice little gift shop too.

This has to be my favourite zoo. It has a great range of animals which are all easy to see thanks to the enclosure layouts. Everything was clean and tidy and all the animals seemed happy. Normally our children get bored at zoos but not this one, they said they could have watched the Lar Gibbons all day which I agree! Hope to visit again soon!
Patrick T — Google review
This was our first visit to Exmoor Zoo, celebrating our granddaughter second birthday and we absolutely loved it. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, friendly, and welcoming, which made a great first impression. The café and gift shop were perfectly adequate, with quick service and everything we needed. The toilets and baby changing facilities were clean and well-maintained, which we really appreciated. The zoo grounds are superb. It is clear that a great deal of care and attention goes into the well-being of the animals. The enclosures are spacious and thoughtfully designed to mimic natural environments, and we were pleasantly surprised by how close we could get to many of the animals without disturbing them. The map was clear and easy to follow, and the paths were smooth and well-suited for pushchairs. The play area was also in excellent condition, with plenty of seating nearby for parents to relax while the kids played. Although we did not attend any of the educational talks this time, they were clearly scheduled throughout the day, we will definitely make a point to check them out on our next visit. Having visited other zoos across Devon, I can honestly say that Exmoor Zoo stands out as the best. Well done to the entire team!

Used my tesco vouchers which made it super great value. So many great animals and although really hot weather I think we managed to see all of them. We were expecting to be there a couple of hours as we got there mid afternoon but 3 hrs went by so quickly and you could easily make a whole day of it. Definitely recommend, my 12 yr old love it and my 16 yr old surprisingly really enjoyed it too. Highly recommended for all ages
Debs T — Google review
Visited with my two children who are 7 and 11 while on holiday in Woolacombe. We enjoyed our visit and had a good time. There are lots of animals especially cats. The highlight was the 'exmoor beast' a black leopard who jumped at the glass and thrilled the kids. The cages vary in size and I thought some were a bit small for the animals while others had more room. It is quite a compact zoo and a bit of a maze. There were some interesting informative talks and the zoo keeper were engaging and interesting. There is only a single block of toilets near the entrance and none in the rest of the zoo, so can be a bit of a pain with small kids. There is a reasonable prices cafe with a few lunch items but not high cuisine. All in all well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Lovely zoo some unusual animals all staff we encountered where friendly and knowledgeable definitely worth a visit. I did the Shoebill experience which was awesome again keeper Josh was friendly and really knowledgeable and I had a great experience. Definitely recommend doing an experience. Entry fee to the zoo is extremely reasonable and so was the fee for the experience I will definitely be returning

The Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway is a remarkable water-powered railway that has been in operation since 1890. It holds the title of being the highest and steepest fully water-powered railway globally, using water from the West Lyn River to power its cars. The three-minute journey offers stunning views of the North Devon coast, making it a unique and memorable experience for visitors.
Great experience and some great views around the railway. Lining up may take some time as it is very popular, well worth s ride down the cliff to the bottom and then a nice area to walk around. Payments are taken at the bottom when you get off if you started at the top.

Loved the ride up and views beautiful. But it was very diffwalking back down. Its SO steep and no hand rails or such to support the very steep decline. Next time would take the ride back down. The shops are so quaint and it's very beautiful place to visit. We enjoyed it.The bay where the boats sit and the harbour are all lovely.Delicous ice cream parlours and plenty of Cafes or Pubs.

Lynton & Lynmouth a hidden gem on the North Devon coast that completely exceeded my expectations. Perched above the picturesque village of Lynmouth & Lynton offers stunning views, old-world charm, and a peaceful atmosphere that’s perfect for a relaxing getaway. The towns are full of character — from its historic buildings and quaint tea rooms to local art galleries and independent shops. It feels like stepping back in time, but with all the modern comforts you need. The streets are quiet, clean, and welcoming, and the locals are incredibly friendly and helpful. One of the highlights of my visit was the famous Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway – a unique water-powered funicular that connects the two villages. The ride offers beautiful views over the cliffs and sea and is a fun experience for all ages. Another must-visit spot is Valley of Rocks, just a short walk from Lynton. The scenery there is absolutely breathtaking. There are plenty of walking trails, coastal paths, and cosy cafes to enjoy. Whether you’re into hiking, photography, or just want to unwind, Lynton & Lynmouth is an ideal destination. I left feeling refreshed, inspired, and already planning my next visit. Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone wanting a peaceful escape by the sea.

Always love a visit here. The conductor on the railway was super kind with my 3 dogs (one of whom is blind). We had a lovely day and fab pasties (ofc). Sad I didn't get to try the vegan lobster tho, maybe next year.

This is a treasure! There's a lovely cafe at the top that serves huge scones with jam and cream, then you board the little train to descend from Lynton down to Lynmouth. The staff are friendly and the whole experience is charming. Definitely worth a visit for all the family including doggos 😊

Nice quick and easy way to go from one to the other. Views are amazing. Staff are friendly. Little souvenir in the box where you get tickets. Card payment only.

The Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway is a true gem — charming, nostalgic, and surprisingly peaceful. The ride itself is short but absolutely delightful, offering breathtaking views over the coastline as you glide up and down between the two villages. It’s a lovely mix of old-world charm and clever engineering — powered entirely by water, which makes the experience feel even more magical. Both Lynton and Lynmouth have their own unique feel, and the railway is the perfect connection between them. Whether you’re into history, views, or just a wholesome experience, this little journey is a must. I could honestly ride it again and again . It’s one of those rare places that just makes you smile Tickets under £4

Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park is a popular destination for families, offering 28 acres of stunning sub-tropical gardens within North Devon's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The park features a diverse range of wildlife, including monkeys, wolves, sea lions, otters, and exotic birds. Visitors can also encounter a family of life-sized animatronic dinosaurs. The park emphasizes education and interactive experiences with regular talks and shows hosted by passionate keepers.
We had a great day in the park. We loved the dinosaurs located along the path which is placed in beautiful landscape. We couldn’t take a ride on the train but we loved the walk on the dinosaur trail. We could see there are some works done so probably soon it will be even better. We enjoyed to visit ancient Egypt tombs and exhibition of fossils.
Kasia U — Google review
We visited the park on a Saturday during the summer holidays and had a brilliant experience. The dinosaurs are really realistic with loads of facts about them and were really enjoyed by the children. The animal enclosures are really good, with lots of space and enrichment. We watched the Sealion Show with Pam and were really impressed with the knowledge and training of Crusoe, he loves it! Thoroughly enjoyed just walking around the park, there's lots of space, food and places to relax and just enjoy the sunshine. Also, not forgetting the Tomb of the Pharaohs, what an amazing surprise - LOVED IT!!

Honestly, I am glad I had the ability to get concession tickets because at full price, I'm not sure this place would be worth it. There are some notices about damage caused in December, but this late on in the year, I feel it's not a great excuse. I'm not sold on the natural looking enclosures. Good variety of animals and information. The price of the cafe is extreme and despite the prices, the handle for the door is broke. I was in the cafe for over 10 minutes and I did not see the "self cleaning tables" clean themselves once. :')
Stephen M — Google review
This an eclectic park (there's a concessionary price for over 60s) it combines rides and attractions you might otherwise find in an amusement park with real wildlife ranging from timber wolves to gibbons and animatronic dinosaurs and even performing seals. Certainly its a way to keep kids amused and entertained for a good few hours and there are canteen facilities as well.
Bernard S — Google review
Nice little rural wildlife Park, that has its charm for its "ruralness". Fits into the valley, so no plain park with no ups and downs. Expect lots of steep climbs, even from the parking lot to the entrance. Tickets bought online are cheaper and you get extras like another free visit and a 50% off for the next season.
Philipp W — Google review
Having a young son who loves dinosaurs we have been round most dinosaur attractions in the uk and this one is fantastic visited recently the zoo is a nice touch with a decent variety of animals as well as a soft play staff are friendly and the animals appear to be well looked after I’m perplexed by some of the negative reviews for this place they appear to be people who don’t understand what replicating a natural habitat means or people who are not disabled complaining about walking up hills 🤨get some exercise the wolves are a highlight not to be missed the other critics seem to be about being able to enter the park without paying (wristbands)🧐
Seamus H — Google review
My son absolutely loves dinosaurs and animals and this park does not disappoint. The animals all have loads of room to roam but due to the organization of the park we got to see everything and they felt much closer than when visiting larger zoos. I do feel I need to mention the steepness of the slopes and steps, this needs a full day to make sure you have time to walk around at a reasonable pace. Pushchairs and wheelchairs beware it is very steep in places. The addition of the new dinosaur statues was perfect, my son was fascinated in hunting for them as we moved between the animals. We saw the sea lion show and this was fantastic, very knowledgeable staff and an informative show. My highest praise goes the the keeper who we met several times, feeding the meerkats and wallabies on 04/05/2025, he was so engaging during the talks but also made conversation with us throughout the day sharing knowledge about the animals as well as hints and tips about when to visit each of the zones to see the animals when they are active. This was a great day out and having the ability to return free within the next 7 days makes this a great value for money experience and the whole family would highly recommend!

Wasn't the best, we especially went on holiday here especially for the rides for only 3 fast rides to be working. I know it's closing down we payed half price for the tickets so just £12 so £60 for the 5 of us to leave there an hour later after going on them 2 -3 times each. I think the council should put money into this and get it back to what it was before.

Great fair right on the beach front, no disabled or carer tickets available and the bad thing is if you have a child with special needs (age 6)who can only go on the junior rides they won't let you by a junior wrist band if there just over the height limit but they can go on them?realy unfair! you have to purchase a £20 wristband even though they won't go on any of the big rides bit unfair realy, but realy worthit if you plan to go on all rides. Good day out all round.

Lovely old building, not too big to see a show. The only thing I would say is its a shame that it's not tiered seating but obviously that can't be helped. There is a small balcony which goes three quarters around the auditorium, but I think it's only about two seats deep. The ceiling is a high dome. There is a nice little cafe and bar there. Inside the auditorium there is a little kiosk that serves drinks, sweets ice creams and teas and coffees and during the interval. Sensible prices in kiosk too ( the bar wasn't especially cheap though) . Can be a little chilly at first, but warms up. Lovely friendly staff. Positioned right opposite the beach. Parking available on streets and car parks near by. If you get a chance go to Beales chip shop. You can eat in or out. Fantastic fish and fruity curry sauce. ( It s near the large car park for the fun fair).

Great little venue, and the staff are always polite and friendly. I would give it 5 stars, but they use plastic glasses and I don't like them. Parking is limited, but there is a car park about a 5 minute walk away.

Watermouth Castle, located in the charming coastal resort of Ilfracombe, offers a delightful day out for visitors of all ages. The Victorian castle is filled with an array of curiosities and attractions, including theme park rides, play areas, and a beautifully landscaped garden. Inside the castle's Great Hall, guests can marvel at magnificent suits of armor, antique toys, and an impressive collection of Victorian memorabilia.
Let's get one thing straight. This place isn't just for kids! We don't have kids, and we absolutely loved our visit. It was money well spent, the gardens are spectacular, the castle is crammed full of interesting 'stuff', it's quirky, it's fun, the staff are friendly and helpful. We arrived as it opened and spent most of the day exploring. Press buttons and watch the magic unfold. Release your inner child. We laughed so much on the water ride (yes, adults can ride it). The weather was great the day we visited, so this obviously helped. Yes, some parts are quite dated, but that's what made it charming. The water fountain show had everyone clapping along. If you're expecting a historic castle with lots to read and things you can't touch, then it's probably not for you. However, if you want to have fun, laugh, and be entertained (and brave enough to open doors, press buttons and see what's around the corner 😉), then you will love it... I can't wait to bring my mum here!

The castle is lovely to walk around. The dungeons were good fun and the light/water fountain show was fantastic. There's so much to do and see. So many buttons to press and lots of rides for the kids throughout the grounds. We easily spent the day here and the kids loved it so much we went back for another full day. It has a couple of places to eat, toilets throughout and is dog friendly.

Bring plenty of 2 and 10 penny pieces! The castle is lovely to walk around, steep in places though. The dungeons were good fun and the light/water fountain show was fantastic. There's so much to do and see. So many buttons to press and keep you engaged all the way around. Lots of rides for the kids throughout the grounds. We easily spent the whole day here. It has a couple of places to eat, toilets throughout and is dog friendly.

Fantastic famuly stay in the castle apartments. Clean, comfortable, and a great location for views across the bay and access to the North Devon cost. Access to the private pool and to the theme park were a great bonus. Welcome hamper was generous and a nice touch. Considering all apartments were occupied it was stunningly quiet and peaceful. Would highly recommend for a family holiday.

First time here & we pleasantly surprised. The castle is a castle in name only, it was built to resemble a castle as a private residence. Its attractions are aimed at children, but inside the castle there are some interesting artifacts. The water fountain show was also worth a look.

This was a great venue. We arrived at 10am and stayed until almost 4pm. The whole family were kept entertained. It was also very wheelchair friendly. It is hard to keep so much of it accessible being built in a very steep hill and being also an old castle but it was very cleverly thought it to enable access to nearly every nook and cranny. The staff were very friendly and helpful, offering to assist and also happy and friendly with entertaining the children. Everyone if then acted like they were happy to be there so it looks to be a good employer too. Thank you for a great day!!

Similar to other reviews. Great scenery, make sure you check the tide times before attending. Can get busy. Car park not the biggest on busy days however superb prices for the car park. One issue is the lack of public toilets, only a few toilets, and on a busy day there was a 30 minute wait to use the public toilets.

Beautiful place to start a coastal walk. Kite surfers, and sea lovers are loving the waves. Rock pools here,Amazing open space, incredible light at different times of the year. They have huge area of dunes. Great cafe here and rental stuff for the sea. Cheap car park. Been many times. Winter will blow the cobwebs away let me tell you 😄👍

Great day out with my daughter. Ramp down to beach was good as we had a pushchair and a hand pulled trailer. Immediately thought of other beaches but they only had steps. This was cheaper parking. Ramp to beach. Lifeguards. Excellent beach with rock pools and a compact sand ideal for pushchairs to go right out to the sea. Made great sand castles with my daughter. Nice moist and compact sand. Lovely day. Great beach definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended.

Beautiful beach situated a few minutes drive from Porthcawl Town centre. Popular all year with surfers, families and walkers, so the large car park frequently gets very busy. Always worth going early on weekends and during holidays. On this visit we took the boardwalk from Rest Bay to Pink Bay, it's a lovely all weather coastal path that runs between the golf course and sea.

Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery is a historic 1824 castle in Merthyr Tydfil, United Kingdom. It was once the home of the Crawshay family and now houses a museum with an impressive collection of artifacts spanning 2000 years of Merthyr's history. The museum features fine art and social history items, making it a must-visit for those interested in the area's heritage.
Great place to visit. Came here yesterday. The castle is placed on a hill, with views over looking the park and lake that is just below the castle, as well as a great view of Mythyr Tydfil. The castle experience itself isnt the biggest we've seen, but at the time of writing it was £3.50 each person adult ticket so that was fair enough. The information they provide as well as details in the rooms is a great sight to behold. They detail such events, such as locomotives, mines, the start some appliances, etc. The experience follows a one way experience, and before you go down to the museum, there is a cafe. There's also acitivies to do there, some leaflets were being handed out to families that had kids. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a nice explore with a lovely view.

Interesting day out. Museum is well done but stairs are steep. Surprising artefacts such as Egyptian treasures. All staff were lovely and helpful. Ate at cafe and took a ride on miniature train. Large lake to walk around too. Parking free. Train £2 each. Museum £3.50 each.

After looking for somewhere to go to escape the rain, l came across this amazing castle. Within the castle l found a really interesting museum telling the story of the owner of the castle, his business and its work force. I also found within the castle an art gallery with some amazing modern and classical art pieces. The entrance fee to the castle was really reasonable at only £3.50. Overall l would highly recommend coming here.

We chose this amazing venue for our wedding day and it didn't disappoint. Even if it's raining you will have amazing photos as the whole museum is open to use if your booked in. From the moment we booked and throughout the wedding the staff were absolutely amazing and couldn't do enough to help. So glad we chose to get married there. Thank you so much for making our day so special and being so helpful.

Merthyr Tydfil once led the world in iron production today, it tells its story at Cyfarthfa Castle. We explored its industrial legacy, the Crawshay family home, and a fascinating collection of art & antiquities. One of the most scenic drives in Wales; history meets beauty

Brecon Mountain Railway offers a classic steam engine journey with observation carriages, providing visitors with the chance to explore the workshop and enjoy picturesque lake views. The railway, located in Merthyr Tydfil, was established over 40 years ago and operates on a route that takes passengers through the breathtaking Brecon Beacons National Park. The journey includes stops at Pontsticill and along the Taf Fechan Reservoir before reaching Torpantau high in the Brecon Beacons.
The train trip was very nice despite a couple of showers. The walk near the station up to a viewing point I’m picking the carrier. It’s very nice. We got some lovely blackberries! We also had the afternoon tea which was very good in fact I would say it is better than what you get at the Celtic Manor very balance between sandwiches and cakes.
Stephen G — Google review
Had a great trip on the Brecon Mountain Railway, the views were really spectacular, with plenty of opportunities to take some stunning photos. It was our second visit, having been last year too and we were just as excited this time. My husband is a retired railway engineer so it was right up his street. We decided to treat ourselves to a cream tea in their cafe this time and it was delicious, you do have to pre book this though. As well as the lovely cafe, there is a shop to explore with many train related items and souvenirs to purchase. You can also take a look in the train shed too which has various engines and parts stripped down being worked on. I would highly recommend a day out here and more than likely we will be back to enjoy again in the future!

A lovely morning trip on this historic steam train 🚂 Lovely large windows and beautiful wooden curved slatted seats. They were comfy too. Nice to be on a proper old steam train. I live about 40 minutes away from here. Don’t know why I haven’t visited before! The information commentary given to us during the journey could have been louder. We only caught bits of the info whilst straining our ears. Steve, the guard I think he was, was a lovely guy. Helpful, knowledgeable and humerus. A great asset to the team. All the staff are polite and helpful. Good views during the journey. Back at the station at Pant we had a fabulous Afternoon Tea. Absolutely super! I would recommend this train 🚂 trip and the tea to everyone.

It was a phenomenal ride! Loved the atmosphere at the station, staff was great, trains are amazing and looked after with lots of love and care. I enjoyed the workshop and standing on the outside on a moving train the most! Oh and chocolate cake was just brilliant! Definitely recommend and will come back 😊

My parents and I had an incredible experience at Brecon Mountain Railway yesterday. We had two afternoon teas which were outstanding - the presentation, taste of everything and amount of food! The staff were all wonderful and couldn't have helped any more than they did. My father is disabled and he was looked after so well, both in the cafe and also on the train. There is also a lovely little gift shop with something for everyone! The train journey is a brilliant experience and the scenery is spectacular. I couldn't recommend it enough to anyone who wants to visit. We live locally and we honestly felt like we were on holiday! Thank you again!

A must do if in the area. Kids(4yrM & 2yrF) loved it especially since there was a play area at the last stop before return journey. Amazing views with commentary. Very enthusiastic hosts and workers. Definitely recommend. Gift shop not to be missed - my son loved the train whistle and v bought several for his friends as well.

Easy parking, plenty of space. Toilets good. Cafe good, we bought take away cups of tea which we took on our journey. Lovely train, carriages have big windows so plenty of space to see the beautiful views wherever you sit. Friendly staff, with some commentary of the sights to look out for. 35minute stop on the way back to admire the views and get drinks and ice cream! Loved the gift shop! Love trip, really enjoyed it!

Public Art: Verity

In the charming town of Ilfracombe, visitors can't miss the striking public art installation known as Verity. Created by renowned artist Damien Hirst, this controversial 20-meter tall stainless steel and bronze statue depicts a pregnant Amazonian figure holding the Sword of Justice and Scales. Situated at the entrance to Ilfracombe harbor, Verity is an allegory of truth and justice that has sparked diverse opinions since its unveiling in 2012.
To have an incredible sculpture by one of the greatest living artists in Ilfracombe is amazing. A modern day colossus of Rhodes in North Devon.
Follow B — Google review
The sheer size of this statue gets you. You don't necessarily expect something on this epic scale in a place like Ilfracombe. I used to be a regular visitor 1980s/1990s but hadn't been for about 20 years. Had no idea about the statue until I got here. Great surprise. Despite the size of it, the statue fits perfectly at the mouth of Ilfracombe's harbour, which already enjoys a dramatic setting. Like someone else mentioned, the statue and the seeing reminds you of Colossus of Rhodes. Why truth and justice? Why the skin layers? I don't know. Maybe I'll look it up later, but my initial reaction is, wow - look at the size of that thing! Cool! Infective is one of my favourite places. This statue has improved it.
Paul D — Google review
Amazing sculpture towering over the Quay at Ilfracombe. This bronze statue is apparently on loan. It's a striking piece of artwork by Damien Hirst. The pregnant lady with a sword held high above her head looks out across the Bristol channel. It stands over 20 metres high. There is an information board explaining about the statue and how it represents 'Life'. Has to be seen up close to be really appreciated.
Paula — Google review
Verity is a striking bronze sculpture by artist Damien Hirst, located at the edge of Ilfracombe Harbour in North Devon. Standing 20 metres tall, the statue depicts a pregnant woman holding a sword in one hand and scales behind her back, symbolising justice and truth. One side of the statue shows the woman's outer form, while the other side is anatomically exposed, revealing muscles, organs, and the unborn baby inside her womb. Installed in 2012, Verity has become a major landmark in Ilfracombe, attracting visitors from around the country. The statue stands on a base of legal books, further reinforcing its symbolic message of justice and strength. The detail in the sculpture is impressive, and its scale makes it visible from many points around the harbour. Public opinion has been mixed—some admire its bold design and powerful message, while others find it controversial or challenging to look at. Regardless of opinion, it has undeniably put Ilfracombe on the cultural map. Visiting Verity in person allows you to appreciate the craftsmanship and the impact of the piece. It’s a thought-provoking work of art that adds a unique and modern element to the traditional coastal scenery of the town.

We were surprised to discover this impressive, large, 20 meter high statue of a woman at the mouth of Ilfracombe Harbour. It is a bronze sculpture created by Damien Hirst. On one side it depicts the outer form with her holding a sword and scales - justice and truth. The other side is a bit more gruesome showing her internal organs and a baby developing in her womb. Not the sort of thing you'll find gracing most harbour entrances.
Ian K — Google review
Absolutely stunning artwork and interpretation of justice and strength, the statue is so unique and as you approach from afar its immense size is incredible and leaves you in awe, the information boards below the statue are a great addition and give so much information.

Went as part of a Welsh speaking group, absolutely fantastic tour guide Sian who did the tour for thr first time in Cymraeg. Extremely clean place and the tasting st the end of the tour was lovely and although not a whisky drinker I could definitely enjoy the smooth taste of Penderyn over ice.

It was really neat to visit the very first distillery in Wales. My brother and Dad have loved Penderyn for years, so it was really nice to stop and check it out! We did the tour and learned so much! The lady who gave the tour was really kind and a great guide! We got to walk around the whole distillery as she explained the process. The tour came with 2 complementary tastings at the end and we ended up getting some gifts to take home.

Well worth a visit. We have done a tour with our guide Florence and learned a lot about how a whisky is made along with very interesting facts about the Penderyn distillery. Rounded up perfectly with a tasting at the end.

Great place to visit. Take a tour and learn a little about the way whiaky is made in Wales, plus get to enjoy the taste of this Welsh gold. Loads of variety available from the Gold range and the icons of Wales series. They also offer distillery bottles that are only available from the 3 shops and not in other outlets or online.

I had the pleasure of visiting Penderyn Distillery in the beautiful Brecon Beacons on October 10th, 2023. This independent distillery is a hidden gem for whiskey enthusiasts and anyone interested in Welsh history. The distillery tour provided a fascinating insight into the art of whiskey-making, starting with a warm welcome from our knowledgeable guide. We explored the entire process, from milling and mashing to distillation, even getting a close look at their unique Faraday stills. The educational component was well-structured, offering a glimpse into the history of whiskey-making in Wales and the broader Welsh heritage. Penderyn's dedication to quality is evident, as they produce small quantities of exceptional malted barley spirit that matures into some of the smoothest malt whiskies worldwide. Not only did we learn about their outstanding single malt whiskies, but also about their other products like Merlyn Cream Liqueur, Brecon Five Vodka, Brecon Gin, and Siddiqui Rums. The tour concluded with a delightful tasting session, allowing us to sample two of their products or take home a miniature bottle. The gift shop had a variety of offerings for souvenirs and gifts. One tip for future visitors: It's wise to pre-book your tour online to secure your spot. Also, remember that the production floor is not accessible to under 14s or wheelchair users due to safety reasons. Penderyn Distillery is a must-visit for whiskey lovers and anyone looking to appreciate the craftsmanship and heritage of Welsh whiskey-making.

Brecon Cathedral, which dates back to a 1093 priory, is an impressive medieval church renowned for its notable stained glass. It serves as the cathedral of the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon and houses the Regimental colours of the South Wales Borderers who fought in the Isandhlwana battle during the Zulu wars. The Harvard Chapel annex is particularly noteworthy. Visitors can enjoy refreshments at the Pilgrim cafe/shop on-site, which will reopen in spring.
A lovely little Cathedrial to visit. Set in lovely grounds its the perfect place to visit, enjoy the architecture, history and reflect. Inside you'll find little chapels, tombs, a section dedicated to those who have lost their lives in previous conflict, inscribed tiles and gorgeous stained glass. Worth a visit if you are in the area, dog friendly also and free to enter. They have a small cafe and book and gift shop on site

I visited with my brother although I never went inside. The building looks more like a large church from the outside and the graveyard is large although it was unnerving when I realized that there were gravestones laying flat in the earth as well so you could easily walk over people/bodies without knowing 🫣

Well worth a visit. Not typical size of most cathedrals but certainly not lacking in any way. Beautiful stained glass, amazing roofs and plenty of beautiful marble wall mounted memorials but such a shame stacked chairs hid some of the more elaborate ones. Some fine carved woodwork and a floor in most parts made up of tablet headstones. Outstanding memorials to those who lost their lives in conflict. Dog friendly, lovely cafe but very little parking.

Brecon Cathedral is a hidden gem in the heart of the Brecon Beacons, offering a serene and inspiring experience. The cathedral itself, with its stunning Gothic architecture, stands as a testament to centuries of history and devotion. Inside, you’ll find beautiful stained glass windows, intricate woodwork, and a peaceful atmosphere that invites quiet reflection. The surrounding grounds are equally charming, with well-tended gardens and a tranquil ambiance that complements the cathedral’s spiritual aura. The nearby rolling hills and the River Honddu enhance the scenic beauty, making the whole area ideal for a leisurely stroll or a moment of contemplation. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a spiritual seeker, or simply looking for a picturesque escape, Brecon Cathedral and its surroundings offer a truly delightful experience.

A great venue for events - spacious, well-organized, and very welcoming. The gym area is spotless with top-quality equipment, which really stood out to me. I’m looking forward to coming back the next time I’m in Swansea to try out the swimming pool. Would highly recommend!

•Soft play: great soft play! Our 1.5 year old loves it. I just really wish the staff would enforce the under 3 area being for under 3’s only. Older kids muck around in there, particularly in the ball pit, making it unsafe for our 1.5 year old to use. This has been the case on a couple of visits. A real shame. •Toddler pool: a really great pool and area. The toys provided are so great, thank you. It’s just way too cold. We dress our toddler in her wetsuit but she still shivers. Please consider increasing the temperature. Thank you!

Overall the place it’s nice. We came for a sport event with a lot of people. Over 10 different countries. and the bathroom were generally clean but there were a LOT of people. The gym caterers to young the generation; however, they have pool 🏊 strength and mobility type classes for older generations as well. The staff is very nice too. My daughter had a great experience and made some new friends from UK 🇬🇧

Superb! We are here on a lil break away and my 15 year old son still loves to swim. The wave pool was brilliant, as was the lazy river. We didn’t go on the slides but these looked ace! The lifeguards were absolutely brilliant, so professional and really responsive to everything going on around them. Felt really safe and if I had a small child or group of children with me I’d have been so reassured by them. Great team of young people. Food and drink in the cafe was good and reasonably priced. We’ll definitely be coming back! Thank you ☺️

Good facilities but the water is too cold. My 4 year old would not go in the larger pool due to the temperature so it was a bit of a waste of money for us. Fine for adults but a bit cold for younger kids lots of others were saying the same. Unfortunately we will travel to Cardiff international pool next time as this is the second time it’s happened at LC2. Very helpful staff at the soft play and cafe.

Spend £27 to take my 5 year old swimming in a freezing cold pool. Her lips were blue and her poor jaw was chattering. The jacuzzi (that was barely warm) was filled with people trying to keep warm. The changing room temp was also freezing. Awful experience. Staff was lovely and give us entry to the play area, but it’s such a shame.

We tend to use this as an afternoon activity on our way home from Pembrokeshire. The waterpark is a great place to spend a couple of hours swimming, bobbing around and sliding. The master blaster always has the longest queue but we've never waited more than about 15 minutes in line. We love the waves and the lazy river too. It's a firm family favourite for us.

The National Showcaves Centre for Wales, located in the picturesque Brecon Beacons, is a renowned attraction offering an array of experiences. Visitors can explore three distinct caves - Dan-yr-Ogof, Cathedral Cave, and Bone Cave - each with its own unique features such as vast caverns and stunning waterfalls. In addition to cave exploration, the center boasts a dinosaur park, museum, Iron Age farm, and a play area for kids.
A must-visit gem in Wales! Perfect for families and absolutely wonderful for kids – there’s so much to explore and enjoy. The highlight for me was the breathtaking waterfall hidden inside the cave. It felt almost magical, like stepping into another world. The sound of the rushing water, the cool cave air, and the stunning natural beauty made it an unforgettable experience. Truly one of those places that stays with you long after you leave.

Really enjoyable day. Boy my boys enjoyed the caves, dinosaurs and farm. They especially liked the water panning which was free. Lots to do and see and dog friendly (apart from the farm park) Be aware though that in places they walk around the area is very steep, both up and down although pathways are very safe. Views from the top were amazing. The little train from the car park to the main entrance was a great start to the visit. Would definitely recommend.

Overall this was great because of the beautiful setting, animals, and Cathedral Cave especially. *Not a suitable place for anyone with mobility issues!* The dinosaurs and gimmicky bits were quite tired and dated but didn't affect the overall experience. We spent a couple of hours here so it isn't quite as huge or a full day out as it looks online. Maybe if you have kids and do ALL the activities you might get a full day out. Dan Yr and Cathedral Cave are quite grand but the bone cave was tiny so we were in there about 5 minutes even when we listened to the audio in there. Takes longer to walk to it and back, it was the size of a large room. That specific cave is not worth it for those with limited mobility issues and it is not easy to walk to it bent over for some time as it's so low! The train running from the farm and shire horses to the main entrance and back is a brilliant addition. It's free too (can donate for air ambulance in cash boxes if you like). Runs every 5 mins and a nice view of the stones from it. No toilets at farm park but easy to hop on train back up to loos. Very very steep hills to walk up to 2 of the caves so you need to be relatively fit.

Booked here as looked good. Well definitely worth the money. The history of the caves was good, only thing couldn't hear the story properly. Came out and saw the dinosaurs. There is alot to see then walk up into the iron age village and into cathedral caves. The whole experience was brilliant. On the paths is dinosaurs some moving which was fun. There is 350 dinosaurs in total. We were there for 2 hours and would still go again. So much to see and is a good day out for all ages. There is a shire horse and activity park, we didn't go down there but only because was raining. There is accommodation which is through hoseseason. Also a campsite. Cafe is good and food good, reasonably priced. Tickets for the showcaves is worth it. Looking forward to going again. Plenty of parking.

All 3 Caves were amazing specially Cathedral Cave which had stunning views, much broader and had beautiful waterfalls in it. The Jurassic Park was also well managed and dedicated to Morgan Bros who founded those caves and all the fossils that were discovered in it. The Farm is also well managed and mostly animals are roaming free which was very nice as an experience for our kids and it’s not too crowded which makes it more safe from animals.

Very good day out for the whole family! Just make sure to wear suitable footwear as you will walk a fair distance. The children loved walking through the caves, throughout the caves are small displays and speakers telling a story so its educational, i founs this very interesting. And to finish the day off you get to walk round a huge field with a number of different animals casually walking round with you letting you pet them. I would highly recommend for all ages and will definitely visit in the future! 10/10

We had a great few hours here - visited for the caves and knew there were 'a few' dinosaur models around but hadn't realised quite as many dinosaurs. It's half caves, half dinosaurs but also a farm area with lots of animals and indoor and outdoor play areas too. So loads to keep the kids entertained. The caves were amazing too - 3 to visit in total, the first one was quite long and really interesting, the second one was huge, really impressive with a very pretty waterfall inside, and the third one wasn't so special but a great scenic viewing platform on the walk up to it. We didn't eat as had already taken sandwiches in but the cafe looked good and very reasonable, lots of lunch options.
Kirsty H — Google review
There’s so much to see! From the incredible caves, to the almost endless number of dinosaurs, and all the animals at the bottom of the hill many of whom are friendly enough that you can pet them! The cafe was bustling and well organised with a buzzer system, they offered vegan nuggets and chips and vegan tart (chocolate or lemon).

Carreg Cennen Castle

Historic Sites
Carreg Cennen Castle is a 13th-century ruin perched on a limestone precipice, offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. Originally a Welsh castle, it was reconstructed after Edward's conquest of Wales and partially dismantled during the War of the Roses. The castle is located on a working farm and can be reached via well-marked trails that provide both scenic and tranquil walks.
Great value for money. Lovely castle and the tunnel was an added treat! Absolutely love that health and safety hasn't ruined the experience by putting barriers and fences up at every danger point. It actually felt real. The cost wasn't high and the chap in the ticket booth was very friendly and helpful. A lovely little walk around the castle (that's free) The little cafe and shop is also nice. Although the handwritten signs forbidding you from using the toilet unless you're a customer feels harsh and unfriendly to visitors.
Kate A — Google review
Stunning ruins with incredible views of the valley all around you. Not only do you get to witness the breathtaking scenery from up high, but you also get to travel down below into the caves! Take lots of care while you're here, as the only staff on site is down at the ticket hut. When you're up on the cliffs or down in the caves, you have to look out for yourself and be very careful. Some of the steps in the cave are slippery and the ceiling can be low in places, plus it's very dark so bringing your own lighting is essential. The cafe and giftshop by the car park was lovely, we very much enjoyed the cakes there.

Fascinating Castle to visit. The ruins are not as good as others we have visited but the tunnels and cave are certainly unique and worth the visit. As well great views and a good walk around the base of the cliff there were cave spiders and Herald moth to be seen below the castle.
Alan S — Google review
Brilliant castle, we visited it on purpose way along the Beacons Way walk, from the Black mountains Quarry carpark which was very beautiful but there are closer carparks if you don't want to walk that far. It is a great castle to visit, kids could run around in there for ages. There's like nice walkways and views too and the best part is the amazing cafe at the entrance! Great teas, coffees, cakes and I'm pretty sure they do food too. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
David W — Google review
Absolutely beautiful place. The walk around the castle is stunning, the vuews are to die for. The homemade dishes and cake are spectacular. If you are in a group, order food first and then come back to it ready for eating. It has its own chapel for weddings. The barn is a superb place to hold a wedding feast too. x

Lovely ruins with great 360° views. What makes it truly unique is the cave system underneath but this isn't lit so don't forget to bring a torch with you. There's also no facilities at the castle so if you have younger children make sure they've gone to the toilet before heading up.
Richie G — Google review
Nice castle on top of a hill. The views from there are so beautiful and is very peaceful. The only dowside is the price, £7 per adult is quite high to the some ruins
Nuria S — Google review
So so beautiful!! Popped here this afternoon no walking gear I may add and it was stunning the roads to the castle are very tight and narrow but it’s so worth it. There’s a decent sized car park and a cafe at the bottom. Lovely walk up I did with my dog as its dog friendly and only £7 entry for an adult well worth it for the castle and the beautiful views

National Trust - Dolaucothi offers a unique experience with its Roman gold mines, providing guided underground tours and the opportunity for hands-on gold panning. The site is dog-friendly and offers a variety of tours, including those focused on Roman history. Visitors can explore the upper levels of the mine and learn about mining from passionate and knowledgeable staff. Additionally, the surrounding area offers lovely walks in a tranquil natural setting, making it an ideal destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
Almost missed this treasure on our trip to Llandovery. Easy to get to on the A482, well signposted and owned by the National Trust - a membership would be a good idea! The site itself is HUGE, loads of walks and views to take in! The main opencast site has several buildings with factual signs dotted everywhere The winding room with the shaft cage is especially interesting! We attended both mine tours, Victorian and Roman. I simply cannot express how incredible our guides were. Not only are they hilarious and informative, but they are also obviously extremely dedicated to the history of the site itself. I highly recommend this as a day out, especially with children - the gold panning was also very fun! Big shout out to our tour guides Nevile and Ed! - side note - if it's your birthday (or in my case the day before) and you do the Victorian tour, Nevile will let you blow out the candle and make the other tourers sing Happy Birthday to you in the dark! Made my day!

Im not a NT member and I found the tours good value for money. It is a small location, not an extensive set of tunnels to explore but the tours are well led, informative and fun. Its a super location with other walks also available from the same area. Essential to book a tour rather than just turn up, but I'd recommend it to visitors or locals looking for a good half day activity.
Kate A — Google review
An excellent experience of a rare Welsh gold mine. The are 3 different tours based on your mobility, and interest in Victorian or Roman history. The tour guide Nevil is exceptional and really engages people of all ages. The wider mining buildings on display show a remarkable age of engineering. A one of a kind experience! It's highly recommended.

Myself and my youngest son went for a short trip through Wales and made a pitstop here! We are National Trust members so we got in for free! There was free parking and it was amazing!!! Honestly the tour was incredible 👌👍🙏 we had a fabulous time! We went on the Victorian tour and it was really good 👍 there was another dude on our tour that did both tours that day, we couldn't because it was fully booked but he said he preferred the Victorian one so that was a win! Sure they are both fab though! 👍💯 Lastly BOOK IN ADVANCE!!!! We did but some other people didn't and got turned away! Definitely book it! Very busy!

Fascinating visit, make sure you book one of the guided tours on the NT website. We went on a guided tour of the Roman gold mines with Nivil, who gave an excellent, informative tour. We then had a lovely walk around the estate on a well signed path. Hopefully we will be back soon to do the Victorian gold mine tour, and to do one of the longer walks.

Fantastic day spent at Dolaucothi. I came here 30yrs ago when I was a kid and enjoyed it so much I wanted to bring my family back to experience it again with me. We did both guided tours of the Victorian and Roman mines with Neville and Eddie, they were both fantastic tour guides.

Was recommended to visit hear by the ladies in the visitor centre at Llandovery, excellent recommendation!!! Had a great day, looking round the yard and visiting the gold mine and exited up the old Roman steps, our guide Clive was great very entertaining, would highly recommend!!

Missed the tours but a qr scan trail was brilliant. 2 to 3 min clips whilst you're stood in an area. Historically important site, pre roman, roman and victorian. Would like to go on a tour another day. £6 to get in, with out person tour. Toilets and hot drinks

Elan Valley Reservoirs offer a series of man-made lakes with picturesque dams, making it a perfect spot for photography and picnicking. The area features a stunning trail that passes by three reservoirs, providing an ideal setting for a memorable picnic experience. Known as the 'Welsh Lake District,' Elan Valley is popular among adventure enthusiasts who can enjoy activities while admiring the breathtaking scenery and watching Red Kites in flight.
The Elan Valley Reservoirs are a breathtaking destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The scenery here is stunning, with rolling hills, lush forests, and crystal-clear water stretching as far as the eye can see. Whether you’re driving through, hiking, cycling, or just taking a leisurely walk, the views are nothing short of spectacular. There are plenty of well-marked trails to explore, ranging from easy walks to more challenging hikes, all offering picturesque views of the reservoirs and surrounding landscape. The dams are engineering marvels, and the history behind them adds another layer of interest to your visit. There’s a visitor center that provides helpful information about the area’s history, wildlife, and the construction of the dams. It’s also a fantastic spot for photographers – you’ll want to bring your camera because every angle offers a postcard-worthy view. The area is well-maintained, and the facilities are good, though it’s quite remote, so it’s best to be prepared with supplies if you’re planning a longer visit. If you’re looking for a serene, scenic getaway in the heart of Wales, Elan Valley is absolutely worth the trip. Highly recommended for anyone who loves nature and the great outdoors!

Absolutely outstanding scenery! lovely walks, 6 reservoirs to visit, valleys/rolling hills for miles. The roads are great, you can stop almost anywhere and go for a walk/pictures... 10/10 Highly recommend!

What a fantastic place to explore. Incredible walk around the Elan reservoir valley. Due to a recent knee injury I took a nice easy path passing 3 dams up to the big bugger that you can walk across. 4 hour round trip. Flat paths, plenty of shade and rest stops all the way along. Easily accessible for older folks walking or bike riding, as the average age was about 70 .....fantastic to see the old boys putting me to shame. Great visitor centre when you arrive, giving you info on routes etc with a cafe and shop. Can't recommend this place enough. I know we've had an incredible spring in 2025 but i feel this place could be visited anytime.

Took my 4 year old niece and family. Large play area which was brilliant, free tractor rides, loads of animals to pet and hold, big indoor inflatable play area, nature walk, free crazy golf, coin operated electric sit on toy tractors (went for a long time for £1), pedalos (not operational when we visited) and powered go karts (also not operational unfortunately). Plus loads of other things like sand pits, cafe (sandwiches were very delucious), farm shop. Staff really friendly and plenty of parking. Been visiting the area for 50 years and this was my first visit.....but I'll definitely be back. Oh, got to see several red kites hovering in the breeze which was amazing.

We visited here on 30/07/2025. What an amazing place. So much to do like feed the barn animals, hold the rabbits they had 3 baby goats running around the barn which was the cutest thing ever. They have out door play area an indoor play area. The owners and staff are super friendly. We can't wait to come back here in a few weeks time. The animals are looked after. Thank you so much for the amazing experience.

Great little place, just a little disappointed today as my son got stuck on the peddle boats and no help come from the owners. Amish teenagers came to the rescue, when they should of been enjoying themselves, thank God for them..

The Animalarium is a charming educational zoo that focuses on providing a home for previously unwanted captive animals and pets. Visitors rave about the delightful petting experiences, where you can interact closely with friendly animals, including an amusing peacock that adds to the fun. The staff are incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, making your visit even more enjoyable. While some areas may appear a bit worn down, the overall condition of the animals reflects their care and well-being.
We enjoyed our visit today especially feeding the cheeky goats! There was a good selection of animals to view including goats, pigs, wolf dogs, tortoises, chickens, ducks, birds, turkeys, foxes, rabbits, guinea pigs etc. We could take our dog which was a bonus as we were visiting the area on holiday. Staff were all very pleasant and the animals were well looked after and healthy. A great place to take children and we as adults enjoyed it too. There is a little cafe for food and drinks. Overall, a nice day out.

We've been here a few times in the past, before they had their troubles. Always loved it so visited again. There aren't any 'exotics' there now, and my daughter was a bit gutted that the pigmy marmoset are gone, but we still had a good time, especially feeding the goats...they are hilarious. Had a lovely chat with the keeper, who told us they are working towards getting their zoo licence back, which takes time and money of course, but I'm sure they will get there because they are determined, and they deserve to. Great for kids...of all ages 😁 We will visit again next time we are in Wales.
Pam G — Google review
Honestly, pretty rubbish for the price paid. As many others have said, the 'zoo' has a very limited selection of animals to view and some of the enclosures are overgrown and in a run-down state. If you took a picnic you could eek out your time here but if you just want to see the animals you're done pretty quick, 45 mins max. Also, the play parks don't look the safest, with some splintering wood in places!!! Three stars given because the goats are extremely cute to feed, the small animals barn is good, the staff who ran the petting session were lovely and the parking is free.
Rebecca S — Google review
All the animals enclosures were overgrown. The worst one was the foxes, the outer fence to there enclosure backs onto the “car park” and you can see right through. A couple with a dog was stressing the foxes out letting the dog paw at the fence. Yes the foxes are stressed because they are circling and that’s not a natural behaviour. The wolf dog enclosure was also small and no enrichment at all, just overgrown. There wasn’t many animals to see unless you want to see goats because that was basically it. Honestly a waste of money because you’re in and out in 15 min max.
Rebecca G — Google review
This place underwhelmed, matched and exceeded all of my expections. It's utterly tragic and yet utterly hilarious at the same time. Seriously read the history of this place before you visit and be in awe of how inept the owners are at being basically competent at their jobs and responsibilities. It's honestly fantastic that this place is still open but I guess anything is possible isn't it? Please enjoy the photo of a welsh goat that I used AI to enhance because its better than anything you will see here.
ANDREW M — Google review
This place should have been shut down years ago! We have photo evidencw feon 5 yrs aho and now, it has got worse. Animals are kept in poor conditions, place is stinking and unhygienic. Toilets falling apart and staff are rude. More evidence ro be reported and taken further.
Phoebe W — Google review
We visited and the place was wonderful, you can see they care for the animals and are actively looking for ways to make more changes with investment. The toasted cheese sandwich was hot and handmade and the tea was piping hot too. Definitely worth a visit. Geared up for kids, but as an adult who loves animals, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for a lovely time.
Dawn D — Google review
Had a great time here . I don't normally do reviews but I seen there's loads of bad ones saying this place is a waste of time . But I completely disagree. I did not expect much from a zoo in the middle of nowhere if we are being honest and afterwords I would have been happy even if it was in a populated area . The animals looked cared for and the staff were all busy looking after them . The play areas were not brand new but they were safe . Included in the £9 entry fee we also got a private petting experience. In comparison you can go to Chester zoo and spend £200 just to gain entry and not really take anything away from the day . In conclusion I believe there is a lot of unfair reviews of this place . It is not the biggest but it's good for the kids .
