So much fun! We did the 12km route which seemed expensive at first for a family of 4 but well worth the views and the fun peddling. Our 9 and 12 year old managed the peddling just fine and the train ride back up was lovely. Ample parking for a motorhome too.

We had a fun time meandering up the rail line by train followed by an hour in the open air rail bike. Peddling is intermittent, gravity does most of the work. This was the perfect time of year to do this.

Lovely family day out with wonderful views. A level of fitness would help in parts but much of the route in downhill, so will require less cycling input.

A fabulous experience for us and the family. Needed some effort at a few points on the route, so you ideally need 1 or 2 fairly fit people. Lasted about an hour and there is a chance to stop halfway and switch the people cycling. When you reach the finish point you wait for the other cars and then get a train back. Was a wonderful way to see the French countryside

It was a stressful experience, after you pay them they kick you out cause they didn't sayed the rules from the beginning; made me spend double just to swim for 2 hours.

The safari on foot is huge so takes around 4/5 hours to complete with the Animals kept in their natural habitats. A few food and drink options but be prepared to queue.

We missed a bunch of animals, despite taking the time to spend extra time in the park after finishing the route. We missed the coatis, servals, binturongs, dingos and some more. Very poor habitats for some animals and some animals did not seem to have any space, like the ocelots. We did really enjoy seeing the snow leopards and the arctic wolves. The park smells bad in a lot of places and the hygiene in the toilets is just bad. For such a price we expected clean toilets somewhere, but it was very poorly maintained. Parking is free. €18,50 is too much in this case, but it’s not a total waste. Hopefully it is being used for future wellbeing of the animals.

Conservation focused zoo with quite a lot of interesting primate exhibits (amongst a lot of other types of animals). Big enough that you can spend a few hours here but also not so big that it has to take up your entire day. The zoo is positioned up a hill so there is some elevation change during your walk through but the park is entirely accessible (wheelchairs of course, but that means also strollers too Mamas… even enough room through entrances and pathways for huge American double strollers). And the layout of the enclosures up the hill allows for really good viewing of the animals in their enclosures.

One of those places you come upon and it blows you away. The creation of a magnificent structure over 33years by a postman which leaves its legacy for others to see. His quaint messages for life are significant in today's world

Very interesting surreal place to visit and explore. There are lots of intricate and whimsical details to look at and enjoy. It's really cool to see one person's dedication to building something that he dreamt about and put his life efforts into.

Le Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval, or the Ideal palace of postman Cheval. This place is a hidden gem of the art i like. Do you like Escher, Dali, and Gaudi? Then you will enjoy this 'Palace'. Don't be fooled, though. It's not that big or will keep you interested for an entire day, but it is a must-see if you are in the neighborhood.

Overall a nice museum with especially interesting floor mosaics that are in very good shape. A big collection of tools for day to day usage in Roman households. There's free english audio guides but not English written explanations (only French). The outside ruins are less interesting.

A total wow!! The French really know how to honor the past. Beautifully laid out with superb explanations plus a free audio guide. It is staggering to learn the museum was built on the remains of a Roman city. Thank you Vienne for preserving this ancient treasure (s).

There are 2 elements to this museum: (1) The indoor exhibition, (2) Outdoor excavation site. (1) Do pick up the audio guide it provides a vastly comprehensive story of the exhibition and paints the story of Ancient Vienne. Do not forget to go up the stairs to see the large mosaic! (2) A very vast excavated area with plenty to see! With a little imagination the lives and living of the wealthy Romans really comes to life here. Overall a fantastic Museum, 11/10 would recommend! Excellent outdoor site and inside museum. Especially appreciated the live water features. If you love Roman mosaics, this is your place. Two suggestions. One, they should tell you the audiogiude covers both inside and outside. Also, a locker would be better than their checkin system. Closed toed shoes for outside better.

Two part museum, one traditional inside part and then the actual ruins outside the museum. The inside part is housed in a modern spacious building, many beautiful mosaics but not so many other items. Many of the signs are in French only which is a bit of a shame (says the English spoken 😉). There is an optional audioguide though. The outside part was my favourite - fantastic feeling to walk along the old roads and think about the similarities between then and now. Many of the signs where a bit weathered and not the easiest to read though, but again an audioguide is available - but I prefer to have my hands free and rather read then listen. Plenty of staff and security people on the site - almost to many... but all friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit

Just a 25-minute train ride south of Lyon, the Temple of Augustus and Livia stands as one of France’s most remarkably preserved Roman monuments. Positioned at the heart of Vienne’s ancient forum, the temple features a hexastyle façade with six fluted columns and an elevated podium, reminiscent of the renowned Maison Carrée in Nîmes . Its survival through the ages is attributed to its conversion into a Christian church during the 5th century, later serving various roles including a courthouse and library, before restoration efforts in the 19th century reinstated its classical Roman appearance .

From imperial worship to medieval church to Revolutionary theatre – this place has seen it all. And the best part? You can wander up for free and feel like you’ve stepped straight into ancient Rome (minus the toga). Pro tip: swing by at sunset – the golden light on those Corinthian columns is unreal!

One of those places that if you’re really into history would be really cool, but if you aren’t you look at it and think “Hey, that’s a cool building!”, take a photo of it, and walk away. Decent way to spend ~5 minutes. Of course, if you’re into this history it is captivating.

An amazing Roman temple situated in a small square in an otherwise unoteworthy French town. Its very simplicity makes it even grander.

We liked the mazes and the gardens with beautiful flowers! They where nice to do. The little museum is also nice. It is not cheap though.

We had a great time there with our 2 little boys in the shade of the mazes. There is much space for a pic nic under the trees and much to do and discover for children. The activity offered indoor (mosaic) was also interesting.

Great Jazz Festival 2025. Went to see Parov Stellar. A little hot due to the heat wave - take water and a hat.

Ale to see Avenged Sevenfold. Probs the best organised outdoor arena in France. Queue moved along with no hassle. Security did a banging job and the Lyonnaise sausage hot dog was delicious. Good beer too. What’s not to love.

Very interesting Roman theatre with great views from the top out over Vienne. Only €3 entry fee & well worth the visit.

Fantastique venue for jazz festival "Jazz a Vienne". Superb location and acoustics, logistics are great with great beers, local food (fries with goat cheese sauce 😍), also great ice creams (chartreuse, banane flambée...), with a very smart setup so that you barely have to wait to get drinks or food. Love it all the way

Very historic site we viewed from above at the Pipet. It is well worth a visit as it is not expensive. The stage is used for world renowned Vienne Jazz festival at the end June every year

Great amphitheatre, most of the terracing has been rebuilt in 1920's to give people an understanding of how great it was. Well worth a visit. Still used today for concerts.

Visited the village but no one establishment. It was very quiet, but one could see the charm. Colleagues on the tour enjoyed coffee and cake. Worth a look for an insight into old France.

A nice medieval village in a wine producing area. Proud and beautiful with its golden yellow stones and a very beautiful church high up.

When we arrived there we asked if we could go up - they have set the tower up as a mini museum with about 4 floors before you reach the rooftop. The stairs are very steep (beware) but the view from the top is well worth it. Accessing the tower costs a mere €2 per person (they take card payment) and is free for children.

Beautiful village. Clean, flowers everywhere, the locals work collectively to take care of the village. The Church is beautiful, the view is stunning. Really worth visiting!

Well preserved medieval village in the Pierre D'Orrees (Golden Stones) area of Beuajolais. Unfortunately we arrived at lunchtime in November and most of the artist community shops were closed! Very pretty village with fabulous views.

When I visited it was a free admission day. The museum is impressive, good quality exemplars , exhibition are for every age. On the roof they have a nice cafe and you can enjoy the view from the top.

This is by far the best museum I have been to. The exhibition, the design and the presentation are very modern and easy to digest. Plan plenty of time. We spent almost 5 hours here and it was not enough.

This might be one of the best modern museums I went to, really! It's very complete and I think kids would love it- there were a lot of enthusiastic ones when we went, at least. Their permanent expositions are very well detailed and easy to navigate, they're mostly about natural history, anthropology and culture, not much art history, or at least I didn't find one. Everything has french and english explications. On the entrance to each permanent exposition, there was a guide who would give a general feel of the pieces, and they could speak English too! Their temporary expositions were interesting and very well done, we went to the Amazon and the dreams ones, both very interesting. We didn't have to pay extra for these. They had elevators for all stages, and there were a lot of audio explanations too. On the terrace there was a lovely - albeit a bit expensive - cafe, with nice views. If you're not hungry, the terrace is included on the ticket price anyway, so you should go at least for the view. A must see in Lyon, for sure!

Amazing exhibitions. This was my second time here and it felt like the first. Thoughtfully arranged and curated museum perfect for all ages. The current Zombies exhibition is one of a kind.

Interesting permanent and temporary exhibitions with lots of interactive elements - especially liked the Species wing of the permanent exhibits. Ticket price was reasonable (12 Euros) and the 4th floor outside terrace views are worth the price of admission! Oh yeah, and it has the most innovative shape for a museum!

Amazing ruins to check out within a close walk from the Cathedral nearby. Unfortunately, we did not have the time to explore the inside of the museum, and since we were heading to Rome it seemed appropriate to postpone anthing Roman to our later trips. The ruins themselves however, still are able to immerse you in history and come alive as you walk through them.

A place to marvel, was for the community back then, still is now (so I heard). Will be wonderful to be part of activities here, but even just a quick stop on the way back from the Basilica already gave me glimpses of stories this awesome place has. Basking in the morning sun, this open air theater sure is special. Do visit the museum if you have the chance.

Very easy to get to using the funicular which was about 2 EURO, one stop from the town cathedral. The ruins are open for people to just wander around and take photos, there is a museum that I did not go into. From there it's a short walk trip the basilica and the amazing views from there. You can also walk from there back to the old town which includes a very long and steep staircase.

Walking through the theatre feels like stepping back in time, with its impressive stone seating, partially intact stage, and gentle slopes inviting exploratio. The site is remarkably well preserved, allowing visitors to walk freely among the ruins and soak up the atmosphere where audiences once gathered for performances nearly two thousand years ago.

This was a very happy but unexpected discovery. There are many information points explaining what each space used to be, and this is supported by images of the buildings -this is certainly helpful because you’re only seeing stones! A must when visiting Lyon!

The Ampitheatre was still in good condition considering how old it is. There are a lot of modern overlays here as the space is used for events etc. I think it would be an amazing venue. Go to the museum which tells the story of how Lyon was founded by the Romans. The Ampitheatre is so out in the open and there is no shade so be careful on hot days. You can look at the Ampitheatre for free but the museum has an entry fee.

The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière is one of Lyon’s most iconic landmarks, visible from almost anywhere in the city. Personally, I usually find the interiors of Orthodox churches more spiritual, but this basilica’s interior really amazed me — it’s beautiful and inspiring. The exterior is just as impressive, and the panoramic view over Lyon from the top is fantastic. You can get there easily by tram, or hike up if you prefer (which I’d also recommend). Nearby, the Roman Theatre and archaeological site are free to visit and very well preserved. Both the basilica and the ruins are definitely worth seeing.

Arriving late evening in Lyon, our Uber driver took us here on a quick detour to our hotel ‘because it is so very beautiful, and you guys can see view of Lyon skyline from there’. Indeed it was a beautiful Basilica, majestic even in the dark of night. Indeed it was an impressive view of Lyon. Very grateful of him, blessed his soul. I got the chance to go back the next morning, and although did not got the chance to go inside, my appreciation grew even more about the opportunity to visit. A must go when you are in Lyon. If your hotel is not nearby, they have tram from the city center that stops directly in front.

Beautifully located on top of a hill, and Best to take an Uber to get there. There is also a vista point on the side of the church with great views of the whole city. If you can walk down the hill, you can visit a nice museum with an outdoor Greek theatre. You can also take a short cut and walk the stairs down the hill

Lovely place to visit in Lyon. Get a day ticket for € 6.90 and couple of trains later you are there. Beautiful views of the city (sunset as well). Basilica is amazing. Don't compare it with Vatican however it is grand in its own way.

It is a marvelous place to visit even when you are not Christian. The interior of the basilica Notre-Dame of Fourvière in Lyon, is tremendously high. The walls are astonishing and it drops your mouth down to the floor. I have not taken many pictures inside because my eyes were focused on all the tiny details in each stunning things my eyes would lay eyes on. If one thing to visit in Lyon, it clearly is there and Paul Bocuse Market^^.

What a beautiful basilica one has the pleasure to see, adore and to participate because during our vist a mass was held. The church has an endless history to show, not only in the holy Christian sense but also in its rich architectural designs. A real treat to be there.

Really enjoyed my visit here - so many interesting exhibits and things to see. I think the best part is the fact that the films referenced and the props from the films are films that are very well-known, not just random French films. Would highly recommend to people as an activity in Lyon, however my one small issue was that we bought tickets in advance but still had to line up in the same queue as everyone else, so buying a ticket in advance was fairly pointless, only decreased the price slightly. But other than that really loved it.

AMAZING! I think should be a must do when you visit Lyon with kids or just if you like movies and a different type of art. They have created incredible mini and real size scenes from movies and normal life things! A different way to know history as well! We went without tickets and ending paying less because they have a family packet. If you are 2 adults and one or more kids, it is definitely cheaper.

The miniature section was a good surprise also—they are so detailed and realistic! While it is a bit on the more expensive side, it’s worth it and it is an independent business.

From Star Wars to Batman 1989, from Aliens to Beetlejuice, the collection is packed with iconic treasures that instantly spark memories of the films that defined an era. According to one of the staff, the Darth Vader mask here is the only original one on public display today, that alone is worth the visit! What sets this place apart is how personal it feels. I love the great art museums of France, but this was different, so much more relatable. Every piece triggered a wave of nostalgia, reminding me of movies I adored and had nearly forgotten, and reigniting the sense of wonder that first made me fall in love with cinema. These films came from the golden age of moviemaking, where practical effects and early CGI blended to create timeless magic that today’s movies rarely capture. Seven floors are filled with cinematic history, and while you can see it all in about 1–2 hours, it’s the kind of place where you’ll want to linger at your favorites. For me, highlights included the Darth Vader helmet, the full Batman 1989 suit and vehicles, the wonderfully complete Beetlejuice exhibit, and the jaw-dropping animatronic Alien that makes you feel like you’re right on set. Seeing Thor’s hammer (Mjolnir), Iron Man’s glove, and nods to classics like Indiana Jones, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, The Mask, and even Fast & Furious only added to the thrill. If you grew up with movies from the late 80s through the early 2000s, this museum is pure nostalgia wrapped in cinema magic. It’s a time machine back to Saturday nights at the theater or trips to Blockbuster, and it will leave you smiling long after you leave. I can’t recommend it highly enough. As a bonus, all the staff that work there are friendly, knowledgeable and passionate! Update: the top floor which houses the miniatures was closed when we arrived for renovations. If this is important to you, come back when they are completed.

As someone also work behind the magic, visiting this musuem is like a dream, from costume to props, set to figures… You can’t miss this, this is prob is the best musuem I’ve seen about cinema, movies. The visit was like a dream come true, from my fav movie Mary Poppins from 1964, to Jurassic world, kill bill to Beetlejuice, alien to Spider-Man! Last the not least, the Wes Anderson section, with some movie items and making off?! Seriously I’m so glad I come to Lyon for this!

In my quest to find the best macaron in Lyon I systematically tried a macaron at each shop in the food hall. Sève’s were by far the best, with my favourites being 1) Caramel 2) Coconut 3) Coffee. I must’ve gone back 3-4 times in one day. They are quite expensive, which meant I could only afford to try 8, but this is reflected in the quality. The staff were lovely and very accommodating of my terrible French. Merci!

The pastries are so pretty, it feels almost guilty to eat them. Nonetheless, I ate them. I ordered the chocolate mousse one and I was thinking of getting more but it's so rich that I was very full at the end. I'd like to go back and more of the pastries. There were dozens and dozens!

This is a nice indoor market. It has quite different atmosphere to la boqueria market in Barcelona. Both of them are great place to see and eat. But, this market has unique features like quiet and less crowded. Local fruits, cured meat , and seafood were excellent. My wife and I enjoyed cured meat and varieties of seafood, oysters, sea urchins, shrimps, and clams. They know how to sell and packages cured meat. One of stores used a vacuum sealed package for cured meat. We felt safe to carry them. All of staffs were friendly and kind. One of members even made a luxury restaurant reservation for us. I think that they know good local restaurants because they are the food suppliers.

Even if you are not a gourmand, I totally recommend this place if you want to have a true Lyonnais experience. The food smells and tastes excellent and the cakes and cookies are amazing.
