Great wee place to visit. Space for a few cars. Lots of paths and trails to keep you interested. Went in the kirk for a looksee, very nice. Lots of history associated with this place.

Small car park, though we did go up and park next to the church, there was a sign saying wheelchair ramp available for getting into the church. Lovely kept graveyard. The Rob Roy grave was at the front so easy to pick out.
Lynn B — Google review
I thought this was very cool. The church was great. The old graveyard was fascinating to walk through. Very, very peaceful place. Not much parking, but really no crowds either.
Mark F — Google review
Beautiful tranquil area. I am a MacGregor (I live in Scotland) so it was something I wanted to do. So glad I could visit.

Nice graveyard with a lot of history. The church was lovely too. You can go inside and give a donation for a keepsake like a postcard, magnet or even a book
Elizabeth C — Google review
Powerful place. Beautiful resting place for Rob Roy. Must see if you are a MacGregor descendent. Despite them
Amy-Lynn F — Google review
Well worth looking for this historic landmark, rob roy macgregor tends to be overlooked and over shadowed by William Wallace and Robert the bruce
Ray H — Google review
Popped here after staying at the nearby Loch Voil Hostel, where Rob Roy once lived. His grave is a simple affair, set in a beautiful churchyard and gorgeous surroundings. Inside the church, you can see the Angus Stone and it's open most days. Lovely spot for a stop off or.walk.

Well worth the drive. Enjoy the tour of the loch. Amazing views and stunning geography. Close to Three Lochs Drive. For those with caravans, they have electric hookups available and a bath/shower lodge as well.

An absolutely beautiful place to visit. There's a nice welcoming café, toilets, bike rental or a nice walk around the loch and also boat rides. I went on the steam ship (sir Walter Scott) and it was super. Prices vary depending on what time slots you go for but it's worth it. Totally recommend.

Fantastic place. Very well organised. Parking and public toilets are very well organised. Was there last Saturday. Weather was brilliant. Did cruise on steamer. Recommend long walk.

Had a fantastic little day at loch katrine. We took and guided boat tour where we were told everything about the loch in the way round. Very interesting. Beautiful views all around. The little gift shop was nice we bought a wee highland cow for my daughter. We visited the cafe which was very pricey but lovely views food and coffee and plenty room. Highly recommend for a day out.

This picturesque drive starts near Aberfoyle on the Dukes Pass and provides a unique journey through rich wildlife and stunning landscapes. Had a great time doing the three lochs drive. Plenty of places to stop and enjoy the views. The footpaths are well maintained .no problem for my wheelchair. Will definitely go again
Graham I — Google review
Great wee drive around beautiful scenery. Should be £3 but the meter wasn't working so free. It's a dirt/gravel road so take your time. Hundreds of places to stop. Also an ice cream shack near the end which was excellent
William P — Google review
Absolutely loved this quiet forest road/track. Easy to find & sign posted. There is a 10MPH limit, which is great as you slowly meander around the forest & can stop to admire the view. There are numerous pull in places & places to park so you can explore the forest on foot
Karen M — Google review
Beautiful place to go out for a sunny day barbecue and have fun with kids in the shore of lochs. Off course you can do a lot water activities like kayaking swimming etc. the place is kind of reserved and under forest preservation. The road is not good inside its raw so on sunny days its so dusty. Not that far from Glasgow. Bug usually busy if its sunny. Some places are nice to have camping.
Vikas J — Google review
Extremely enjoyable drive. Lots of picnic and camping spots. And there is a toilet block
Adrian K — Google review
Excellent drive around the three Lochs and through the forest. Lots of places to pull over and enjoy the views. The gravel road was easy to drive on and also toilets and an ice cream stop on the route. Highly recommend
Charlotte B — Google review
Nice drive around the three Lochs some great scenery and good places to stop and have a picnic also take photos, but i would visit soon as the veiw as you enter is spoiled by what looks like de-forestation, dont know how it will look in a couple of years time, shame.

Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
Nestled in the picturesque Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, Go Ape Aberfoyle is an adventure-seeker's paradise. This treetop rope course offers a thrilling experience for families and adrenaline enthusiasts alike. With one of the UK's longest zip wires, reaching over 400m and soaring 150 feet above the ground, it's a must-visit for those seeking an exhilarating challenge.
This was my first ever Go Ape experience on my birthday at the rip old age of 47... the staff we encountered were friendly and put saftey at the forefront of everything. Before moving off on our own we felt fully confident on what we were doing. The course was amazing as it started with a massive zip line and then with shaken knees and the adrenaline pumping we were off on our own. Thank you to the staff there and I look forward to our next visit
Peter D — Google review
We loved it. Take a back pack with some water and light snacks. Do NOT go if petrified of heights. You'll need lots of energy too. Overall we enjoyed it.
Nik Q — Google review
Fabulous time for all the family. Need a reasonable level of fitness to get yourself round. Nice way to get a little adrenaline rush as you head down the zip wires. Take clothes that will wash well. The mud gets engrained on the wood chip landings. The 426 meter zip line at the end is spectacular you finish and start with amazing views. Staff are very helpful and friendly.
Stephen W — Google review
Went with a friend to do the zipline experience. WOW! What a thrill the staff were very fun and also professional. The safety brief gave me all the confidence I needed. And the value for money is outstanding. You won't find a better thrill for the price. A 5🌟 experience for all the family. We will be back
David W — Google review
Amazing day out we have done it for a Hen doo but friends or family day out is perfect we did the tree top challenge and axe throwing both thrilling and great fun good instructors too so much fun on the day, it was longer than w me expected too which was good 👍 weather doesn't matter as it's both fun and challenging if wet or sunny 😀
Bodzio X — Google review
Brilliant experience from start to finish. Staff and instructors welcoming and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble - as well as being a good laugh. Great course and great to have a choice of paths and routes to take; challenging enough but not too difficult. Highlight was by far the final zip line across the gorge/valley as a reward for the effort on the course with spectacular views across Stirlingshire. Made all the better by the stunning weather and setting sun but of course, sadly Go Ape don’t have control over the conditions. Slight sticking point was having to pay for parking separately since the course sits in the Forestry park; including this in the price of the ticket might help. Thanks again - amazing experience, highly recommend and would look forward to visiting again and/or visiting another site
Ruaridh — Google review
Absolutely great experience at GoApe! Fantastic instructor which gave us detailed training on how to use the safety equipment. The best is the entrance as well as the exit! Both are long zip lines crossing a valley. That’s amazing! The course is pretty fun with the two Tarzan swings and some other cool objects. Right next to the GoApe, there is also a nice place to walk. Could spend the entire day there and if you need a snack, they have a coffee shop!
Hartmut L — Google review
Absolutely Amazing, Listen to the instructors and you will be fine , the zip lines are fantastic. Very Friendly staff from the girl at the kiosk, David our instructor, Mathew and the others . Thanks for a great day.

Argaty Red Kites is a magical place located near Doune, offering a wonderful experience for bird enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy capturing stunning shots of the red kites and explore activities like pond dipping and a mud garden for children. The site features two well-maintained hides, including the hilltop hide which can accommodate over 25 people and provides binoculars and bird reference books for use. The visitors center offers excellent facilities, while the friendly staff adds to the overall hospitality.
We brought a large group of university students (94 students) to Argaty Red Kites in March (2025). Tom, Lynn, and Ollie were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and the visit was very well organised. Students thoroughly enjoyed their time learning about Red Kite and beaver conservation efforts (and the complexity of this). We were there for about three hours, and there was so much to see and talk about. I would highly recommend visiting Argaty Red Kites if you get a chance!
Nathan S — Google review
Just 15 minutes out of Stirling and only 10 minutes from the motorway you find an idyllic and peaceful part of the countryside. You could easily be in the Highlands it's so tranquil. The only noise is that of the wildlife. I was lucky enough to see Chaffinch, Great Tits, Peahen, Greater Spotted Woodpeckers and Red Squirrels. And of course, Red Kites. Well worth a visit. The staff are most welcoming and knowledgeable.
Rob — Google review
A magical place to spend some time, particularly if you are into wildlife photography. I have visited many times and always enjoy myself either watching the red kites, the beavers at the right time of year or spending time in the squirrel hides as I did yesterday. I would thoroughly recommend it
Petedowning — Google review
Amazing to see the Red Kites (we counted at least 40) and the information was first class, not hurried at all, a very peaceful location with excellent knowledge and passion. Can not recommend highly enough, superb for all ages, just magical.
Claire P — Google review
We hired the Red Kite hide and it was an amazing experience. To be so close to my favourite Bird of Prey was special. Fabulous location with plenty of other birdlife around.
Jane E — Google review
If you have never seen the red kites this is definitely worth a visit. Amazing to see them swoop to feed. Guide was very knowledgeable
Karen R — Google review
An absolutely amazing experience. Arrived just before 2 pm , just by chance there was a kite guided experience happening. £10 per adult and within 60 minutes I got some of the most amazing photos I have ever taken. We really enjoyed the experience. I have photos but they are on my DSLR and can’t edit them until I get home next month. I might upload one from the back of the camera as an example for how.
Shane M — Google review
I met Tom and Ollie today to buy a signed copy of Waters of Life and t shirt to support the beavers. It's been a while since my last visit. What inspirational, brave and genuinely lovely dedicated people who have an incredible ethos. This is the way forward. The kites are incredible, the beaver tours sound incredible. Please do go and support Ardgaty and their vision. They are a shining light leading the way. What an amazing place. Scotlands Nature desperately needs more to walk this path. I am truely grateful they have. Thank you.

Went to this café not a good experience. We ordered 2 brake fasts. They charged me £40 .yes £40 for two people . .1 off the staff made a poor attempt and being houmous. He was far from that .how can this be £20.25p each

Great cafe with wonderful food. Antique Centre had a lot to see and prices were extremely reasonable given the high quality of the stuff. Addendum - I visited again a year later and it was even better than the last time. Very friendly and helpful staff. Picked up a few good finds.

Today, it stands as a community-driven craft distillery that offers guided tours, tastings, private dining experiences, and a shop for whisky enthusiasts. Amazing whiskies at this distillery. I highly recommend treating yourself to the Warehouse No. 4 Tasting Experience. It was a very small group and our guide, George, gave an excellent and informative tour. Then we sat in the warehouse to taste delicious whiskies straight from the barrel… truly a one of a kind experience and highly recommended for any Scotch whisky lover!
Dylan H — Google review
We did the 3 dram tour at £25 each. The tour lasted around an hour, followed by the tasting and them the shop. Our tour guide, Thomas, was fab. Happy to answer any questions he could, able to talk about the history of the building and the different qualities of the whiskey. After the tour in the shop the staff were more than happy for us to taste even more varieties before buying.
Polly S — Google review
Brian gave us an amazing tour last minute, right before closing. He and the rest of the staff were extremely welcoming, friendly & great to chat with. Thank you for an amazing experience!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Warehouse No. 4 Experience – Deanston Distillery What an absolutely fantastic experience! The Warehouse No. 4 tasting at Deanston was everything you could hope for — and more. Our host Brian was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also hilarious — the perfect mix of fun and whisky wisdom. He brought the whole experience to life with great stories, insights, and plenty of laughs along the way. We sampled three cask strength drams, each one exceptional in its own way — rich, powerful, and beautifully waxy, with that unmistakable Deanston character. Tasting them straight from the cask in the cool warehouse made it feel truly authentic and special. If you’re anywhere near Deanston, don’t miss this. Whether you’re a seasoned whisky lover or just curious to learn more, this experience is amazing and highly recommended. Thanks again to Brian for making it one to remember! 🥃

I visited the UK with my famiy during last Korean Chuseok holidays. We stayed in England mostly, but we also visited Scotland, too. As an whisky lover, it's a kind of duty and faith to visit at least one of distilleries in Scotland. So I brought my family to the Deanston distillery and we met my Netherlands friend and his family. We had the distillery tour together there. It's unforgettable memory for me. Thank you, Brian for your guidance on the tour day.:) 2025.10.13, Mon, 10:15am #Deanston #distillery_tour #Deanston_12y #Deanston_Virgin_Oak_Distillery_Edition

Lovely whisky in a lovely location, what more could you ask? Friendly staff in the shop who were so welcoming and so happy to talk about the whisky, the distillery, the weather, anything. Couldn’t have wished for a nicer way to spend a wee while browsing. Offered some complimentary tastings and no pressure to buy (unlike some other visitor centres I’ve been too). Luckily Deanston is one of my favourites so not a problem! 🥃
Will M — Google review
We stopped here as an extension of a day trip to Stirling. Although near closing time, we found the visitor’s center very busy and initially it seemed like staff were having a hard time keeping up with the crowd. Once it got a little less busy, we found the staff very engaging and we got to sample quite a number of their whiskies including distillery exclusives and hand pours. They also had some Tobermory and Bunnahabhain whiskies (same parent company). While this isn’t one of the “pretty” distilleries, we were happy to see the range of distillery exclusives available and ended up with 2 bottles!

I definitely don’t like whisky (sorry, Scotland !) but James made this visit an exquisite moment of science, humor and heritage. We learned lots of things regarding distillation and had a great time ! Thank you !

Doune Castle

Mentioned on
40 lists
Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled near the charming village of Doune in central Scotland, Doune Castle is a stunning medieval fortress that dates back to the 13th century. This remarkable stronghold has witnessed significant historical events, including damage during the Scottish Wars of Independence before being restored in the 14th century by Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany. Today, visitors can explore its impressive architecture and rich history while enjoying audio tours narrated by Terry Jones.
So fun fact, Outlander and Monty Python was filmed in certain areas, and some of the rooms were recreated from this castle. The audio guide was great and gave you fascinating information about the history, back stories on outlander, as were as Monty Python and the holy Grail. They also sell shirts for Monty Python in the gift shop along with outlander gifts. The only negative parts is not enough parking, but in the center of town 5-11 minutes away, there is free parking, if you are walking.
Sher P — Google review
Doune Castle is a fascinating and well-preserved medieval fortress that’s full of character and charm. Steeped in history, it’s also famously featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Outlander, and Game of Thrones – making it a must-visit for both history lovers and pop culture fans. The audio guide is fantastic, with fun narration that blends historical insight and a bit of humor (especially if you're a Monty Python fan!). Exploring the grand halls, towers, and courtyard feels like stepping back in time. Set in a beautiful, peaceful location, Doune Castle is easy to explore and not overly crowded. A brilliant stop that combines history, scenery, and a touch of cinematic magic.
Mark C — Google review
We enjoyed walking around. We did not have tickets so we were directed to park in town. It was a lovely walk and likely best to park there in the first place and then follow the signs to the footpath. We thought it would take awhile, but it was really a rather short journey. It was not our favorite castle we visited but fun to see since we have watched Monty Python, Outlander, Outlaw King, and Game of Thrones. I actually wish we had gotten there before it opened and had been able to enjoy the grounds without the crowds. I would say if you are driving by - stop, but I wouldn't make a trip out to see just this castle.
Kym S — Google review
Beautiful castle with a lot of history and stunning views. You don’t need more than 30–40 minutes to explore it, and wearing comfortable shoes makes a big difference. Visiting during the low season is definitely the best — quiet, relaxed, and easy to enjoy every corner.
Gabi S — Google review
Here’s another great castle where several movies have been filmed, including Monty Python and the holy Grail. A great courtyard and many floors and rooms to see that are furnished, including a great hall. In the room that I am standing in front of the large fireplace next to the window, there was a scene filmed there. There is one fireplace that is so large. They say you could roast a whole cow there at one time.
Don L — Google review
Nice little castle not too busy. You can be in and out in about 30 minutes maybe an hour if you take your time. A little car park which is free if going into the castle. There is a park around the castle but we didn't venture round it. Toilet facilities out of the castle and a gift shop in the castle.
Stuart — Google review
Extremely good value for money. The castle is well preserved and the audio guide which is included is easy to follow and very informative. The staff are also friendly and kind. If you’re an outlander fan, I would highly recommend.

Excellent meal - proper good quality pub grub. Lots of choice on the menu. I had fillet steak and he had fish pie. Lots of food - too much for me but thoroughly enjoyed. The service - lots of young staff was brilliant. A great find recommended to us by the owner of our nearby accommodation.

This was the first hotel we stayed at on our west highland way journey. Rooms were well maintained and clean. We shared a bathroom with one other room which wasn't bad. Staff was great and we were even able to check in early which was so appreciated after a long day. Dinner was fantastic. One of the best we had during our 12 days in Scotland.

We had an excellent meal for two here. Though they were extremely busy, all the young waiting staff were refreshing very attentive and with such a good professional approach. Not surprisingly the service was excellent and food well presented and delicious. Many thanks for making our last evening of our break in Loch Lomond feel special.

This is the second time we’ve eaten here and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is so lovely - cosy and quaint with nice decor too. The staff are friendly and made us feel welcome. The food was 10/10 - tons of choice, big portions and delicious. I had the seafood trio to start and it tasted so fresh. The salmon was incredible - full of flavour and presented beautifully. We had multiple cocktails too and every single one was really nice and presented well. We can’t recommend this place enough - it’s a treasure.

Booked a table for a party of five for lunch mid week. Booking was easy and done in a nice manner . On arrival we were greeted and taken to the restaurant where we decided on the table and then ordered a variety of things from the menu. Staff were both helpful and nice and patient ; they had to be ,decisions decisions were slow on our part . Food came and all looked very appetising ; it was good too and everyone was happy . I remember the food from years ago being very good and while the menu style had changed the quality is still very good . No hesitation to recommend and I look forward to returning. Thank you Clachan team .

Scottish hospitality at it's best! I stopped here a few times on my walking holiday and the staff and locals were so welcoming and friendly. They found a table for me and my dog in the bar when we arrived late, tired and hungry. We'll both be back.

Glengoyne Distillery

Distillery
Food & Drink
Located between the villages of Strathblane and Killearn, Glengoyne Distillery has been producing whisky since 1833. The distillery offers guided tours, tastings, private dining experiences, and a shop for visitors to explore. It is uniquely positioned on the Highland boundary fault, with stills in the Highlands and whisky maturation in the Lowlands. Accessible facilities are available for wheelchair users, including adjusted tour routes and designated parking spaces.
We did the Glengoyne Fine & Rare Tasting with Arthur, and it was a fantastic experience. Arthur has been at the distillery for many years and his depth of knowledge really made the tasting engaging and memorable. The setting in the blending room added something special, and being able to try the Glengoyne 30 Year Old was a real highlight and rare treat. I also really appreciated that Glengoyne offers tastings and experiences past 5pm during the summer, unlike most other distilleries that close earlier—such a thoughtful touch for visitors. Overall, a beautifully run experience with great whisky and even better hospitality. Highly recommend.

If you're interested in whisky, do yourself a favour and book the Glengoyne Distillery Tour & Tasting; it’s hands-down one of the most enjoyable and educational experiences we’ve had in Scotland. From the moment you arrive, the setting is simply stunning. Nestled at the foot of Dumgoyne Hill and straddling the Highland Line, Glengoyne is unique in its geography, distilled in the Highlands, matured in the Lowlands. It’s picturesque, peaceful, and steeped in history. Our guide, Robert, was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also genuinely passionate about Glengoyne’s slow, deliberate approach to whisky-making. We walked away with a true appreciation for the craft, patience, and care that goes into every drop. And then; the tasting. Wow! Whether you’re a seasoned single malt aficionado or just curious to learn more, Glengoyne is the perfect place to dive in. It's intimate, authentic, and full of heart, no gimmicks, no over-the-top flash, just a world-class whisky made the right way. Thank you for a great experience on our honeymoon!

My wife and I did the malt masters experience and it was a blast! Our guide was Lorna who not only gave a great tour but was just an all around amazing person, she really made us feel at home and helped us as we tasted and smelled all the wonderful whiskeys before blending our own bottles! She even dipped them in wax so they look nice and official, the only downside to that is we don’t want to open them because they came out looking so good! While this was my wife’s first time visiting glengoyne it was my second and I specifically came back to it because of how kind the people are, how great their scotch is, and how beautiful the area is. If you’re a fan of scotch, or if it’s your first time in Scotland, this is the place to visit. I promise you won’t regret it!

We visited the distillery today and enjoyed the Glengoyne Tour and Tasting with Arthur, a fantastic guide and great story teller, who shared his passion for Scotch whisky with lots of charm and charisma. The distillery is in a beautiful location and the short walk up through the grounds leads to a nice wee waterfall. The 12 and 15 year old drams at the end of the tour were absolute liquid gold, and there is a well stocked shop where you can choose from a fine selection of Glengoyne single malts. We’ve visited so many distilleries over the years but this is definitely up there with the very best.
John S — Google review
Visited Glengoyne in September with a tour group. Jennifer, our guide was excellent in explaining the history of the distillery and describing the steps to produce the scotch. Afterwards, we were invited to dram tasting of a two different aged scotch. It was wonderful your. Of course, I couldn’t leave without purchasing a 15 year old bottle that will be opened on Christmas and shared with my family.

Tour & 2 drams tasting: An enjoyable tour and tasting with our incredible guide, Jennifer, Glengoyne offers a unique peak into Scottish Highlands whiskey. The tour was informative, enjoyable, and ended with our 2 dram tasting. I was impressed that the distillery offered takeaway options for those who were driving. The shop offered a nice discount for those who had paid for a tour/tasting, and additional (smaller) tastings are available in the shop for those curious to purchase. But honestly, we were so impressed by our guide, who is clearly passionate about both the products and her company, as well as relaxed, warm, and very friendly! 5 out of 5 stars!

Excellent tour guide Aidan took us on a very informative tour of this wonderful piece of Scottish heritage and even though im not a whiskey drinker it was great to see the production methods and also take in the wonderful smells- designated drivers get bottles for their tasters to take away and enjoy later.Aidan had lots of information and facts and was very happy to chat . We also enjoyed the waterfall that feeds the distillery

At the end of a long whisky tour, we reached the Glengoyne distillery. Here, too, the tour was enjoyable and informative. The highlight was the tasting. It was actually the first tasting of our trip that didn't end under the pressure of a waiting new group—but simply because everything had been said and drunk.

Snow Factor is an exciting year-round indoor resort that offers a unique blend of winter sports and relaxation. With its impressive ice-climbing wall, skiing and snowboarding classes, as well as a cozy bar and eatery, it’s the perfect destination for both beginners and seasoned enthusiasts. Visitors have shared their experiences of taking snowboarding lessons here; many found the facilities ideal for newcomers to the sport.
Started my first snowboard lesson on reopening week back in November, was a little challenging as a beginner, but I had fun. Level 2 later that week was not good at all. Being overweight does not make it easy, and I couldn't stand up on the heel edge. With Bradley and James perseverance and making a ledge technique, I started to get there. However had to go back and redo the level 2 as we ran out of time. Onto the level 3 a few weeks later. Was definitely getting easier now, and again thanks to Bradley, we progressed onto level 4 turns as well. Few weeks later and we finished up our lessons on the big slope. Thanks to miles and patsy for the help and advice. Have now been and had a full day ski pass, and having a great time on the big slope, still require some practice and experience, but getting better every run. Overall a great experience, wish I'd done this years ago. Never too late for a mid life crisis! Thanks again to everyone at Snow Factor!!

Had a great group lesson with Mark W in December 2021. Lesson was for level 3 but he also allowed up to venture into level 4 tasks. Felt good about what was taught and have booked my next lesson already. The slope and gear is great however reception staff were lacking some costumer service skills and the toilets would benefit from more regular cleaning.

My husband and myself had enjoyed so much our 2nd snowboarding lessons with Andy! We came with no background but it was always something we wanted to try. We are really looking forward to our third lesson to be able in the future to enjoy a ride by ourselves! Also the staff is very friendly and there is really good facilities and a nice bar where you can relax after the lesson. I would recommend to go in the morning cause it's less busy 😊

Honestly couldn’t ask for a better place to learn skiing. Even in the first lesson, you feel immense confidence because they teach you really well. Our instructor Kristina was extremely helpful, and very patient, even when our turns were monstrous. Would definitely recommend and will definitely go again.

Great day at Snow Factor! Only my second time snowboarding so was still wary but the slope and facilities were perfect as a starter. Be aware though if you have no snowboarding ability at all and do go for a £55 lesson (Far too pricey) and opt for the full day £30 lift pass then you can potentially be asked to leave the slopes because of danger to yourself and others. The staff were great though and allowed a few runs until we found our feet and picked it up a little bit more. Lesson next time to advance some of my basic skills I think!

First time ice climbing with Richard as our instructor. Was a great laugh and interesting to learn the technique. It definitely felt like longer than an hour. Would highly recommend.

I've been going here for years, it's good to keep your snow skills going all year round. Myself and a friend were there last Sunday night for the last hours of the open day and we were the last two on the slope, the staff member Chris was at the top of the Poma but didn't have anyone to look out for falling so he came out and showed me how to do some tricks on the snowboard and also gave me the confidence to ride the box, I've never wanted to do it in case I went flying off the side in front of crowds but as it was empty and he gave me instruction on how to ride it I went for it. Thanks Chris, you went above and beyond.

Great lesson with Lucy last week. I did my Level 4 snowboarding group lesson and whilst all the instructors have been great, Lucy has been the best thus far. She was very approachable, attentive and a great coach. She genuinely cared and made sure I got the best out of my lesson. Hoping to hit the main slope soon so I’ll be back in touch for a private with her!

Despite this, the theater provides a great setup with comfortable seating and ample parking. It also features a nice bar area and hosts various acts and shows that are worth attending.
For an act that only got together 6 months ago, they were fantastic! Sing a song a tribute to the Carpenters, were stunning. A full house were thoroughly entertained with classic songs of the period by quality musicians. Thank you so much for your talented performance. ❤️

Palacerigg Country Park is an absolute lovely for anyone who loves the outdoors and a touch of adventure. From the moment you step onto its woodland trails, you’re surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature — birdsong, rustling leaves, and the occasional sighting of a roe deer darting through the trees. The park’s nature trails are well maintained and perfect for long walks or gentle hikes, winding through stunning woodlands and the impressive Glencryan Gorge. One of the highlights is definitely the treetop walkway, offering a fresh perspective of the park from above and a great spot for birdwatching. The area is teeming with local wildlife — bats, dragonflies, owls, and more — making it a paradise for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. What I love most about Palacerigg is its variety — it’s the kind of place that caters to everyone. If you’re after something active, there are great routes for mountain biking and longer hiking circuits that test your stamina while rewarding you with breathtaking views. Families can enjoy the open spaces for picnics or BBQs, while the visitor centre provides a fascinating look into the park’s wildlife and history. Whether you’re out for a relaxing stroll, a scenic bike ride, or simply to reconnect with nature, Palacerigg Country Park delivers a perfect balance of adventure and tranquility. It’s a place that truly makes you appreciate the beauty of Scotland’s great outdoors.

Visiting as a couple, for a dog walk, we found this country park to be a little disappointing. No way to walk around the lovely loch. Much of the grounds we explored is a golf course so you must be vigilant of flying golf balls. The petting zoo is long gone and it's abandoned remains are quite sad looking. I can see more attraction for those with kids at the playground or those into golf. Maybe we need to explore more to get the best of it but we aren't drawn to rush back. The parking on the day we went was an absolute disaster but overall for us it was a nice afternoon out.

Some cute wee trails in a forest. Good walks and they have a parkrun here now too. Downside is that it feels quite eerie. The animals are not there anymore and there’s not much to see up there now. A rat ran past my car too.

Great place to walk the dog and take the kids, 2 play parks and a nice cafe.
Margaret F — Google review
Kids really enjoyed exploring the park and quite a few things to do there. The adventure park had no bins at all so if you're planning a picnic best to eat at the smaller park near the visitors centre and toilets (both of which were closed when we went which I wasnt sure was a permanent closure or not) We had thought there was some farm animals there from looking at google before we went but they were either no longer there or in an obscure part of the park that we missed.

Visited family staying at accommodation just over from this lovely area. The grandkids really enjoyed letting off steam and getting close to nature at the same time. Beautiful 🥰

There is no longer a petting zoo. Palacerigg has seen better days but it is a beautiful place to spend your time. Paths are easy to navigate even with a buggy (some stairs on the Badger trail) and the variety of terrain is interesting. Benches at scenic viewpoints. You could easily visit multiple times without walking the same area of the park.

The well-maintained facility and knowledgeable staff ensure that the birds are well cared for.
We did a handling experience today... Went in early to have a cup of tea and a roll, tasty and reasonable price. Hadn't been to anything like this before so wasn't sure what to expect. Had a great time... We got to hold 2 different birds, and Lynn was very informative. She didn't rush anyone so we got to hold them a good while. She knows what she is talking about, and was answering any questions we had too. We then got to fly the birds twice... Then watched the flying display, and ended it with seeing all the other birds around the area. It seems a bit run down, but Lynn explained they were in middle of renovations. Absolutely loved it and we spent 3 hrs there, and I'm sure u could be longer! Thanks to everyone for the experience.

We did the family flying experience today and had a brilliant time. We’ve visited the centre quite a few times and really enjoy seeing the flying displays and finding out about the different birds but the experience today was excellent, handling the birds and finding out lots about them. The keepers are all fab and so knowledgeable. Abbie was brilliant especially making sure my daughters were comfortable and happy handling the birds. Would definitely recommend both a visit to the centre and an experience if you can.

This is a fantastic place to visit and I’d highly recommend it for people of all ages. It’s amazing to see all the different birds up close and to see some of them flying in the flying sessions. A falcon even landed on my husband’s head during a flying session!😆 The talks during the flying sessions were really informative and interesting for me and my husband and our ten year old. Our six year old wasn’t so interested in the talks (understandably) but he loved the kids play area and seeing the birds. Great experience!

Great place with well looked after birds. We arrived at 10am and stayed until 2pm. There was plenty to see and every two hours from 11am there is an hour long flying display and talk about some of the birds. The staff were all friendly and the food in the café was really good. We had a great time and plan to return in the future

It was a fantastic experience to admire the birds up close. Guided by incredibly enthusiastic and experienced people. Stewart was a torrent of fascinating stories for the vulture experience, which we even got to feed. We concluded our experience with a flying display of different species. Definitely recommended for any (bird) nature lover. We wish the entire team the best of luck with their breeding project and keep our fingers crossed for a beautiful young vulture in the near future.

What an amazing museum!! It was the last stop on my list of things to experience on our trip to Scotland!! And it didn’t disappoint!!! The main thing I wanted to see/hear was the 1 o’clock pipe organ performance…. We took the train from Edinburgh to Glasgow. We had time to explore the museum then at 1 o’clock…. We got some of the best seats and were so excited to enjoy such beautiful music!! What a talented organist!!! Loved how he expressed himself!! He played 7 or so songs!! It was AMAZING!!! And actually the GRAND FINALE to our 30th wedding anniversary trip to Scotland from the USA!! Go visit the Kelvingrove Museum!!

A lovely museum set in an old building and free to enter (donations most welcome to the museum). Pay and display car parking with designated disabled bays £5 per 2hrs at time of posting this review. Wheelchair accessible push button automatic doors to get inside. Lifts to all floors and disabled WC too. Plenty of room inside for wheelchairs to maneuver. The're cafes and gifts shops too. There is Art galleries on one side then there are museum exhibits from dinosaurs to Egyptian mummies and a whole lot more.

So, we started from Edinburgh for a day trip to Glasgow, and without any specific plans, we randomly chose the Kelvingrove Museum. The building was gorgeous from the outside, and once we stepped inside, it felt like we’d been transported back to the 1950s. The exhibits were plentiful and impressive, and what stood out the most for me and my wife was the Dalí painting on display, as well as the 1 o' clock concert featuring the church organ. That was truly magical, and I’d never heard a church organ live before—it’s an experience I’ll never forget! The entrance is free for everyone, and that something i love about Scotland and their free entrance museums policy.

Interesting museum and lots of artsy things to see! My favourite would be the artworks across the different centuries and the crowd management was well managed. ♿️ wheelchair accessible entrance and lots of space to move around inside, across different floors. There are elevators inside the museum building.

Lovely museum with a brilliant range of exhibits - not just Art. 2 gift shops, one for adults and one for children, will a lovely range of items. Is free to enter but you need to pay for parking. We paid £7.90 for three hours which was well worth it. There’s a food van in the car park for hot drinks and a bite to eat. We used the EV charger - lead got stuck in the machine and had to call the help line who wouldn’t release us until the car next to us had disconnected. Not the museums issue at all but worth noting if you’re planning on charging there.

Anyone that gives this museum less than 5 stars needs to have a word with themselves. This museum is such an asset to Glasgow and worth a visit for all ages. Firstly it’s free which after visiting we couldn’t believe. There is so much to see and do and we spent hours exploring all the exhibits. Inside is split over two floors with all areas wheelchair accessible. You can get up and close with vehicles of all shapes and sizes from old police cars, ambulances and fire engines to steam rollers, motorbikes and cars of every shape and size. It has a great selection of steam trains on display and we loved the old fashioned street display where it felt you were walking back in time and you could explore all the old shops and even subway train. There is a lovely wee cafe and gift shop too.

The Riverside Museum is a fantastic place to visit, especially as admission is free, making it accessible for everyone. Its location right by the river adds to the charm, giving visitors a chance to enjoy the scenic surroundings before or after exploring the museum itself. The building is modern and striking, and once inside, you’re greeted with an impressive collection that feels both inviting and easy to navigate. One of the highlights is the range of lovely old vehicles on display, from vintage cars and trams to classic bikes, which are fascinating to see up close. The museum is also very well thought out in terms of accessibility, with excellent disabled facilities that ensure all visitors can enjoy the experience comfortably. It’s a place that combines history, culture, and atmosphere beautifully, making it well worth a visit.

Amazing place, one of the best museums we have ever been to, got there at opening time, stayed until around 3.00pm, great coffee, great soup...... The displays are very well laid out with lots of interesting info. The ship conveyer belt was so cool. Great to sit in an old underground train and watch the movie from the 1940s, also the Coronation tram, the old shops and street were so well done..... Love seeing the Caledonian Railway 123 loco, still have my Triang/Hornby one from the 1970s :) Not all about transport, plenty about Glasgow life. The Tall Ship is worth a visit too just behind the museum.

A very good place to visit with children. A good collection of old cars, bikes, and a train, and how the streets look. It feels like you have time traveled and are seeing the past with your own eyes. It will feel very nostalgic to the elderly who may remember a few things from their childhood. Free to visit.

Glasgow Science Centre is a top science and technology museum in Scotland, known for its interactive exhibits, planetarium, IMAX theatre, and cafes. With around 300 hands-on science exhibits spread across three floors, visitors can enjoy an educational and entertaining experience. The center also features a Planetarium that offers insightful shows. Visitors can engage in various physical and endurance tests while learning about upcoming scientific topics such as Big Data.
Great day had by the family at the science centre! Lots of interactive activities to get brains of all ages ticking. Lots of areas in different STEM topics, all of which we enjoyed! On top of the entry tickets, we also booked tickets for the kids planetarium show which came at a small additional charge, but would recommend as it was brilliant.

Glasgow Science Centre is a wonderful museum that presents science in a fun and engaging way for all ages. It helps children understand what they learn at school through practical and interactive experiences. The centre has diverse sections that keep everyone entertained and curious. I highly recommend visiting it for anyone coming to Glasgow, Scotland

Brilliant day out at Glasgow Science Centre! We had such a great time, with our 6 year old daughter, there’s loads to see and do for all ages. The interactive exhibits kept everyone entertained for hours, and it’s clear how much effort goes into keeping everything engaging and educational. The staff were friendly and really helpful, and IMAX 3D cinema was a highlight. It’s one of those places where you can easily spend the whole day without getting bored. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Glasgow, whether you’ve got kids or you’re just a big kid yourself!

Pleasantly surprised at how much there is to do and see at the science centre! Went with a group of parents and kids of all ages and they all enjoyed. Definately needed more time there as there are a number of levels to visit. Would saintly visit again.

We noticed the science centre across from where we where staying whilst on a trip for my daughters birthday. We decided to stop by for a visit and we where glad we did. The staff on the ticket desk where very polite and helpful. Inside there was lots to do and see. It was filled with interesting and interactive exhibits. We only stayed for a few hours as we had to catch a flight home but you could easily make it a whole day. My daughter had lots of fun learning new things as we went around. There was also an inclosed play area for children which was lovely my 4 year old didn’t want to leave. There was also a cafe unfortunately we didn’t have the time to try it. My 5 year old has said she wants to go to Scotland for her birthday treat so if we return we would definitely be visiting again as I know my 5 year old would love this just as much if not more.

Buchanan Street is the ultimate shopping destination in Glasgow, boasting a vibrant atmosphere with designer shops, charming cafes, and lively street performers. The historic street is lined with 19th-century architecture and offers a mix of boutique and high-end stores. Visitors can enjoy the bustling vibe while exploring an array of specialty shops and dining options. The popular pedestrianized street is also known for its captivating skyline and entertainment from buskers.
The street is full of all kinds of shops. There are some good souvernir shops along here. It does get very busy at the weekends, particularly during the late afternoon. There are places to eat along the street. The street is accessible to people who use a wheelchair.

If you're looking for a great shopping spot, this street is perfect, with plenty of excellent stores and charming cafes. However, be cautious when taking photos, especially if you see the Romani people sitting on the streets. They may view it as an invasion of their privacy, so it's best to avoid photographing them to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Great walk from the top of Buchanan Street down through St Enoch Square to the river. From gift shops to High end retailers this Glasgow Street has it all. If coming to Glasgow it's a must. As we found that you need more than one day in Glasgow to get around and see everything but this has to be no1 on the list. We are definitely going to return but for a few days so we can venture further out to take in more of the City.

Pollok Country Park, located in Glasgow, offers a diverse range of activities for visitors. The expansive park features extensive woodland and gardens that provide a sanctuary for both wildlife and nature enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy the lush greenery, scenic landscapes, and tranquil atmosphere while exploring the various walking trails and mountain biking circuits. Families with children can take advantage of the play park and open spaces, while couples can indulge in romantic riverside picnics.
I recently visited Pollok Park with my family, and we had an absolutely fantastic time. The park is beautifully maintained and offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, open spaces, and interesting views. Children play area was really nice and had lots to do. The kids loved seeing the Highland cattle and exploring the woodland areas. A great spot for a picnic, family walk or just some quiet time away from the city. Highly recommended.

Great place to explore after we landed in Glasgow before checking into the hotel. Great way to see Highland Coos, explore beautiful grounds, and more. We wanted to walk and chose not to go in to see the art because of limited time. The Pollok HOuse was closed, but looked very impressive from the outside even with work being done. Lots of people walking dogs and lots of families. We had much better opportunities to see highland cows later in our trip, but it was fun to see them here on day one and learn about them.
Kym S — Google review
Beautiful park! 🏞️ There were so many Highland Coo's. 🐮 We got to pet them and scratch behind their ears. They were so friendly and cute! 😍 The paths were very pretty and the Burrell Collection was very cool and had such a variety of gifts in the gift shop. Would definitely return! 🤩
Kristina L — Google review
A lovely park especially great to see Highland Cows. We saw the usual rust colour Highland Cows as well as black and white ones. If you are lucky they can come close to the fence and you can get a good look at them. The setting is beautiful with wooded areas and fields for the cows. Perfect in the autumn as the landscape is stunning. There is a car park too. Would highly recommend a visit to Pollok Country Park to get close to nature.

Good location for family and kids cycling . The road are width and clean, mostly cover by concrete/ stones . Wonderful place to see highlands cows Love this place, with different kind of gardens, big cafe, big car park(need to pay - Sunday 3 hours : 4.9£) , clean toilets with a pretty museum. Lots of sign : please keep dogs on leash- as I believe there quite a couple incidents caught dogs hunt and kills wildlife / deer.
Ingrid C — Google review
Had a beautiful visit with the family, there is a highland cow pasture with little calves which are soooo cute, the Highland cows are very affectionate, love being petted and getting their picture taken. There is a large family play park where kids of all ages can have a go at the various swings, slides etc ..that includes us Adult kids. The burrel collection museum is also located within the park, (which has recently been refurbished) and is free to enter, there is a beautiful cafe in the museum as well as a souvenir gift shop. The grounds are also pretty spectacular with lots of paths and little routes to guide you through the park. There is lots to see and hear including waterfalls, amazing plants and greenery, as well as the overall sound of nature. Definitely a must visit for all.

The Burrell Collection, a carefully curated assortment of over 9,000 objects donated to Glasgow by Sir William Burrell in 1944, has recently reopened after an extensive refurbishment. The collection includes ceramics, tapestries, glass, and decorative arts from various periods and styles spanning over 6,000 years of world history. Visitors can explore works by renowned artists such as Bellini, Rembrandt, Chardin, Degas, and Manet.
Wonderful family outing. It is free to enter but you need to pay for parking which there was plenty of. There is a wide diversity of items in the collection. From antiquities of Egypt, Greece and China to artists such as Rodin, Degas and Cezzane. There are interactive videos for young ones. Plenty of space on the grounds for a picnic or there is a restaurant available inside. Large play area by the parking for little ones as well.

The Burrell Collection, nestled within the Pollock Country Park, is a must-visit destination in Glasgow. Not only is it free, but it’s also a beautifully renovated museum with a modern design. The museum’s layout is expertly crafted, featuring a free-flowing route that takes visitors through a diverse collection of artifacts from around the world. Among the impressive collection are paintings by renowned artists like Degas and Cezanne, as well as many others. The Burrell Collection offers a truly captivating experience, allowing visitors to spend time exploring its rich and diverse exhibits. Highly recommended, the Burrell Collection is worth a detour from your usual route. The park has ample parking, and if you’re commuting, a shuttle bus service connects the museum to the bus or train station.

Loved visiting the Burrell Collection! Amazing mix of art and history in a really modern space, and it’s right in the middle of beautiful Pollok Park. Great place to wander and relax. The museum is well-designed and maintained with a hint of interactivity for kids. The staff is friendly and has some fun worksheets for kids.

Enjoyable visit to The Burrell collection. We arrived and were offered to join a free tour, which we did and thoroughly enjoyed. There is a lot to take it, and many areas we likely missed. We will return again... the inside area itself is very well looked after. The toilets were also spotless. Cafe food is a little expensive, but it is properly catered by professional chefs and is very fresh. We did enjoy the food and would pay the prices again. * please take the time to pay for parking as it is £100 fine if you are caught (GGC), and there were 2 wardens visibly checking tickets. It's not expensive considering its free entry. If you have any spare change, there is a donations box to contribute to on the way out. Allow yourself 2 - 3 hours

I think this is my favourite gallery in Scotland! A magnificent building in the most picturesque surroundings. The collection of art is awe-inspiring! Perfect for medieval lovers. The curation was very thoughtful and the staff were all very friendly and attentive. Well worth a visit

Shockingly impressive collection of artworks, textiles, collectibles and antique furniture ranging from the 1900s to the 600s from those I looked at. Staff all extremely friendly and the building itself is an architectural beauty. Well worth the visit. Gift shop was okay, had alot of local srtisinsl products which are appreciated but not alot of artwork and collection related items such as prints. Restaurant and cafe sell kinda the same things and they are quite expensive, I'd avoid. Free entry to the museum is always appreciated.

Visiting this collection Museum really open my mind, could not imagine that's all from a rich man house! However, really appreciate the concept of him, want to let everyone admire all of his collections under this natural beautiful green zone. Also, though reading the story how he getting along with his daughter, wife , guests and servants. You can kind of knowing Mr.Burrell is a person with good humour and taste of course.

Wish I had gotten more time to really shop and visit the antiques place This place is huge and great way to dornd an afternoon. Omg. This place is sooo amazing. We had coffee and cake in the tea room which is beautiful. They also sell hot food. Some small shops selling wool knitting needled hats handbags array of mugs and glasses. Card shop gift shop. Pictures to purchase. Baby shop and the garden centre the antique part was unbelievable. Took me back to my childhood. We went in for coffee and came out 3 hours later. Can't wait to go back again

Wow! What a place! Love the antiques centre...a veritable labyrinth of nooks and crannies and glass cases FULL of wonders and treasures of the past. Great stuff in the other part of the place too...ranging from dog treats to handbags to wool and Scottish souvenirs. I've yet to find time to visit the garden centre...another visit on the cards soon! The cafe is excellent, not too expensive, but the food is great. The staff are amazing too. All in all, a great day out...and I mean a whole day!

(Detailed review below) Food ⭐⭐⭐ Ambiance ⭐⭐⭐ Accessibility ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cost ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐ There is a good variety of things to buy here but generally not stuff that I would be interested in. I think it's geared towards the elderly customers in terms of types of products and costs. The service at the cafe/restaurant is good. Table management is rather efficient and food wise, it's not too bad. I do like the cakes and the desserts quite a bit 😅 Toilets are well maintained although a bit small. Generally a good place but not very exciting.
Adrian L — Google review
Cafe is good, average prices and the wait isn't too long. Love a wander round the antiques stalls. Though it can be tricky if you have any mobility issues.
Alli — Google review
Very odd place, huge warehouse for the Elderly full of plastic tat from china, the antique section is bits and bobs from your grans house, very little furniture or “real” Antiques sadly. The reason for my two stars is because I received awful service from two staff members in the antique centre. Rude, abrasive, cheeky and swearing.. I was shocked!!!! I sent an email to complain, they acknowledged and said would respond, but never did. Which says it all. I wouldn’t go back! Keep driving on 5mins more to silverbirch, at least they have some unique products and cafe is excellent. Please don’t waste your time, you deserve better
Jane — Google review
We popped in to have a look at the antique centre. Parking was at a premium at lunchtime! I didn't find any wrought iron door stops, sadly. We then had a look at the garden centre as I'd hoped to pick up a wall clock. They had some lovely clocks.

Goulding's Garden Centre is a delightful destination that offers a magical winter wonderland experience, perfect for families. Children can enjoy an enchanting visit with Santa, who takes the time to engage with each child personally. While the toy selection may not cater perfectly to older kids, younger ones are sure to find something they love. The centre also features a fun VR experience and includes activities like tractor rides through animal exhibits, making it an all-around fantastic outing for little ones.
Back for another lunch - love the salads here - well worth the one hour drive !!! Had lunch with a friend here today - both opted for the Paradise Chicken special with salad and chips - well wow, what an amazing dish - the salad was huge, the chicken was delicious - both totally loved it. Great staff. Haven’t been for a while (due to distance) but looks like the cafe has had a makeover - really comfy seats as well. Fantastic place.

I live 500 miles away but wanted to treat my mother-in-law who loves to go to Gouldings for a cup of tea and cake as a treat. Highly recommend them for that alone and my in laws love the place so it has to be good! Thank you!

First visit to the garden centre and we weren’t disappointed. A lovely shopping area which is light and bright. It was that time of the day when food was needed! A good variety of food for meat eaters and vegetarians however not sure on a vegan choice. Fairly priced on the whole , a little disappointed by the number of wedges given for £6.95 however that would not deter us from eating there again. The staff without exception were smart and friendly which is a definite plus. This might sound silly but the toilets were spotless too although the restaurant had been full - so that’s another thumbs up! Well done to all.
Nicky C — Google review
Bought some gifts and then on to the restaurant. It was very busy, as always at lunchtime, but we did not have to wait long for a table. Food was delicious, freshly prepared and served by friendly staff. Not the first time that we have eaten here and it won’t be the last. Personally, I would say it serves the best food out of all the garden centres in the area, good value too!
Michael B — Google review
Came here for the winter wonderland. My 3 and 6 year olds loved it. The area before Santa was great. Santa himself was brilliant. Took lots of time to chat to the kids. The only thing that let it down was that the choice of toys for my 6 year old wasn’t great. My 3 year old loved her toy. The VR experience was great although a little pricey (£6 per person) but felt it was good for my 6 year old as he wasn’t overly impressed with the toy choice. Really well set out though and great for the kids. The hot chocolate was lovely! Shout out to the staff too who were friendly and helpful.
Craig B — Google review
Staff are lovely and it’s a really nice cafe but if I wanted a DIY baked potato then I’d have made one at home. Serving it with a dish of hard white grated cheese is not appealing. Cheese should be melted over the potato, and please don’t say I should have asked for that, it should be standard. It arrived at the table that way and I’m always wary of sending anything back to the kitchen.

Nature & Parks
Nestled in the heart of Kilmarnock, Dean Castle Country Park spans over 200 acres and offers something for everyone. Visitors can explore scenic trails winding through woodland, open farmland, and wetland areas. The park also features a 14th-century castle museum surrounded by beautifully restored landscapes designed in the early 1900s. With a superb program of events, art galleries, and exhibitions, this friendly tourist attraction is perfect for families.
Amazing place for a morning out. Cafe with coffee, sandwiches and ice cream. Dogs are allowed inside with you to order but must sit outside. There is a covered portion of outdoor seating. Large number of high chairs for children in the dining room. The castle is completely free, three sections to walk into the tour, I was very impressed. Dogs allowed in the courtyard of the castle but not inside, understandably. We just took turns holding the dog or going inside. Beautiful nature trails and a children's play park. Will definitely come back as an easy 20 min walk from the train.

Dean Castle Country Park is a spectacular and absolutely free day out for the whole family! Nestled right in Kilmarnock, this place is an oasis of history and nature that feels a million miles away from the town. The highlight, of course, is the magnificent 14th-century Dean Castle itself. The recent renovations have been done beautifully, and exploring its history and world-class collections of arms and armor is truly captivating. Beyond the castle, the country park is an adventure waiting to happen. We spent hours wandering the woodland paths, spotting wildlife, and just soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. The park is clearly a source of pride for the community. The facilities are excellent, and there's a lovely cafe, "The Laird's Table," for a well-deserved coffee and cake. It's a place that caters to everyone, whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or a family looking for a fun day out. Dean Castle Country Park is a treasure. I can't believe it's free to visit. It's a shining example of what a local park can be, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the area or even just passing through.

An Absolute Gem on Glasgow's Doorstep! I cannot recommend Dean Castle and Country Park highly enough. We visited on a whim, looking for a day out that offered something for everyone, and it completely surpassed all our expectations. First and foremost, the wildlife is the star of the show. Walking through the beautiful, mature parkland, we were thrilled to see fallow deer roam in their expansive enclosures. But the animal encounters don't stop there; The park is also home to a charming collection of farm animals, including friendly sheep, curious goats, and wonderfully content-looking pigs. It was an absolute delight for both children and adults alike. The woodland walks are fantastic. The trails are well-signposted and cater to all levels of fitness, offering peaceful, shaded paths that make you forget you're just a stone's throw from the city. The combination of open parkland and dense woodland is simply beautiful in any season. Speaking of location, the proximity to Glasgow is a massive plus. It's incredibly easy to get to, making it the perfect escape from the urban hustle without needing to spend hours in the car. You can be immersed in this tranquil countryside setting in just minutes. The facilities are top-notch. The visitors centre is a great starting point, with helpful staff and interesting information. A huge bonus for families and anyone on a day out: there are plenty of toilets located conveniently around the park, so you're never caught short! After our long walk, we popped into the cafe for a coffee and a bite. It was lovely, with a good selection of hot and cold food, delicious cakes, and a clean, welcoming atmosphere. It was the perfect way to refuel. And then there's the castle itself – the beautifully maintained Dean Castle. The courtyard is immaculate and feels like stepping back in time, while the gardens surrounding it are a delight, filled with colour and carefully tended plants. In summary, Dean Castle and Country Park is a flawless day out. It seamlessly blends history, nature, and modern convenience. We left feeling refreshed, educated, and already planning our next visit. An undeniable 5-star experience

From my experience, the Dean Castle is one of the best preserved castles in Scotland. We explored the fascinating instrument collection and the impressive armour displays, which made for an amazing experience. After our visit, we enjoyed a delicious coffee and pastry in the cafeteria. The surrounding park is beautiful, with a peaceful river, wildlife and stunning scenery. It was a truly memorable visit.

This place is absolutely beautiful. We went on a day when it was so sunny. Lots of autumn colours. Our dog really enjoyed the walks, some steep hills so if you have trouble I’d say take hiking sticks.
Lucie T — Google review
We had a great day out at Dean Castle Country Park. It was a good place to walk our dog with different trails to follow. Some are more challenging than others but there are some accessible paths. We enjoyed a cake in the cafe which has a covered seating area outside for sitting with your dog. Being Outlander fans we enjoyed visiting and found out some of the prequel series will be filmed there too. The staff in and around the gift shop were very friendly and informative although I suspect it was mainly so they could give our dog some extra fuss. Definitely a place we will revisit when we are back in that part of the world.

The show itself was amazing, but the theatre was extremely hot. No air conditioning at all. I was there with my 15week old baby supporting a friend in her show, and I ended up having to strip him to his nappy because of the heat. I was in the back row, so it wasn't even as though I had loads of people around me.

Amazing building in Kilmarnock with two museums inside, library, art gallery and a café. Good exhibitions about Robert Burns and Johnnie Walker, plus lots of historical artefacts. Beautiful and interesting. Free entry!

One of my favourite places since childhood yes I know I'm a nerd . But the recent addition of the coffee shop is amazing I love setting up my books n studying here in the 90s n while the atmosphere of the old reference library is different being able to set up laptop n coffee is definitely way of future . Coffee is one of best in town. Cakes are delicious only critism maybe add. Sandwiches and savoury snacks to menu . Art gallery and Musium has constantly changing interesting exhibitions . I'm shocked no other reviews have mentioned the local hero that is Brian the Lion. Over 100 years old and a delight to meet . . The building itself is a very beautiful old building if you have time take a moment. And admire the architecture. Both inside and out and be grateful for the town planners and council who have invested in this beautiful free resource for us all . Use your local library!!

Excellent fiction and non-fiction libraries, museum and art galleries, and a very good resource centre for research of local history. Also doubles up as a polling station during elections

Been going since I was a child. Great experiences for children plenty to see and they have on going events. Worth the visit

Wonderful library and space. Sad it's not open on a Monday rather than a Sunday. Some very good exhibitions here and lovely staff too.
Theresa M — Google review
Awful Sunday service in the cafe. Customers who'd joined the queue after me had their drinks served before ours and the two staff looked to be in a constant state of confusion. We're regulars to the cafe but the cappuccinos were way below the usual standard on this occasion, like a watery instant coffee and lacking the chocolate sprinkles, which I had to request.

Lovely big park lots of different play areas, pond toilets boats but as Sunday these weren't open. Beautiful spacious park suitable for all ages. Plenty of nice seating areas for people with mobility issues to sit and enjoy the surroundings. Will definately be back on warmer day. Very dog friendly

Brilliant place to visit.Very Organised place with so many fun activities.Kids paradise . Miniature railways is a must try for kids and adults. Activities are so reasonably priced from €1.5 to €5.5 Ample bio toilets were arranged during baloon festival. Lovely place for a day out
Paramita R — Google review
Good play area. Small park at the bottom of the hill. There is a good boating pond suitable for all ages. There was bumper cars and bouncy castle. Costs £2 per shot which I think is excessive but kids had fun
Eve R — Google review
Really lovely park with lots of different play areas for very young children upto teenagers. Has a great little pond with some ducks. We took our puppy and were pleased to see loads of very friendly dogs on our walk. Nice wee sculptures and areas to explore. It has a cafe but it was closed when we visited. Would definitely go back for another visit.

Fantastic park, but the highlight was the Balloon festival. Awesome
Alex S — Google review
Went there for the annual balloon festival. The park itself is very well maintained. On Sundays there is a miniature steam train for rides. There is also a boating pond and go karts for the younger ones. Food venue at the bowling green.

Strathaven Park is a delightful green space for all ages. There are two play parks, one for young children and one for older children. There is a small boating pond (with ducks) and mini golf. I think the miniature railway runs at the weekend. It's a great park for dog walkers too. The Barrie Shelter café has a varied menu at reasonable prices. I can't comment on the food as we only had an ice lolly. There are two car parks at either side of the park.
Nancy N — Google review
Great park for the kids plenty to do from boating pond to miniature railway and beautiful park for walking. Staff around the park are so nice, men who operate miniature train full of knowledge and the man who was operating paddle boats was great with the kids has great personality ⭐️

Excellet place to eat, sat outside on Sunday 28th of April on a nice day next to the wee river. I had the chilli scampi bites and kimchi fries, excellent, my son had the fish & chips which he said was the best he's had in a long time, it's all he eats and he was impressed that the batter was crisp but stayed stuck to the fish when cut, and my wife had the fish stew, she loved it, in fact an hour later she said she wished she could eat it again. Only been open under the new owners, who apparently own the local Indian place called Taal, for 3 weeks which was a huge surprise given the quality & service, usually there's lots of teething problems, my wife is a retired chef and she was equally impressed. Dog friendly, even at the bar area. Service staff were excellent as well, I must however apologize again for breaking a plate, got my foot caught and stumbled knocking a plate over. Will definitely eat there again if back in Strathhaven, can't recommend the place enough, 6 stars. Thank you.

My husband and I had lunch here,I had two starters and he had a main . I had the calamari which had no lemon with it and it was served with raw cabbage, not slaw which would been better. The Thai beef salad , the beef was overcooked. The croutons in halloumi salad were really hard.
Debbie B — Google review
I enjoyed the food as I chose a couple of options from the Vegan menu, service was good, location next to the stream was nice and the service was good, the only thing I was not expecting is to be charged £6.50 for two glasses of Draft soda water.. in other words fizzy tap water. I wasn’t expecting it for free because I appreciate they have overheads to cover but I have never been charged £3.25 for a glass of tap water. Other than that I would have given it a 5 star rating

Chose this amazing little bar/restaurant for our first meal out on our Babymoon and it didn't disappoint! The service was brilliant, with socially distant covid measures in place including screens, plenty of hand sanitiser and all staff in masks. The staff were very friendly and polite and the food was absolutely beautiful! Such a lovely selection, we were spoiled for choice! After much deliberation, my partner and I both went for the soup of the day, which was tomato, chilli and red pepper - it was superb! Then for mains, my partner went for the fish & chips with minted peas and I opted for the 3 cheese macaroni. The portion sizes were huge!! So much so, we were unable to squeeze in a dessert, much to my disappointment. I'd definitely recommend this place and would certainly go back if we were ever to visit Strathaven again!

Trying too hard and not quite nailing it. Tonight we ate a mix from the pre theatre and a la carte menus and some of the combinations were interesting but I would say not so successful. The scallops starter @ £8.95 was underwhelming and I thought undercooked (just) , with the cauliflower purée non existent smear across plate. Main course tandoori haddock didn’t work. A nice piece of haddock “ruined”. Dry pilau rice. Chicken with spiced spaghetti a random choice but my son enjoyed it. Korean noodles OK too. The sticky toffee mess for puddings was too heavy, really thick toffee caramel and could’ve been better. Best choice of the evening was my youngest sons kids meal. Nice fish and chips in crispy batter and good starter and pudding too. Overall disappointing and better elsewhere for the price (£145 for 5) for a Friday evening pub meal. After meal glass of port couldn’t even find a decent glass.... pity. Coffee good !! Waiting staff excellent.

I am a vegetarian and tend to find a lot of restaurants lacking in choice and quality, not the case with the Waterside. Food was amazing, Chef and staff are lovely. Highly recommend this Inn for a beautiful, tasty relaxing dinner.

The house boasts a well-preserved collection of Chippendale furniture, tapestries, and artwork. Visitors can take guided tours to explore the mansion's bedrooms, grounds, and enjoy discounts for Historic Environment Scotland members.
I had a truly lovely experience visiting Dumfries House. The estate is beautifully maintained, and the house itself is rich in history The gardens and grounds were a highlight as well — peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a relaxing walk. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or simply enjoying a beautiful day out, Dumfries House is definitely worth a visit.

Went for a day out with a friend. We were lucky with the weather it was sunny and hot and we spent a few hours just walking around the estate exploring. Plenty of space to explore and some lovely trails. The walled gardens was beautiful and very well maintained. Large outdoor playpark for the kids too. On site cafe was great, very good value for money and the food was lovely and freshly made. We had baked potatoes, strawberry tarts, a coffee and a cold drink each and spent £33. Seating indoors and outdoors. There are bookable tours of the house itself available although I think you have to book in advance. A beautiful place that you could easily spend a whole day exploring.

Lovely Family Day Out at Dumfries Estate We had a fantastic day at Dumfries Estate with the family! Beautiful gardens, scenic walks, and a great adventure playground for the kids. Visited the café, shop, Arboretum and walled garden. The weather was good which made a great difference. The grounds are beautifully laid out with a rich variety of trees, shrubs and plants. Produce used in the restaurant, café and cookery school on site too.

Visiting Dumfries House Gardens was an absolute delight. The entire space feels serene and perfectly laid out, with a beautiful flow that invites you to wander and explore at your own pace. The walled garden's gorgeous beds had a plethora of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees, from roses and clematis to gladioli and apples. It was nearly overwhelming. The fruit and vegetable gardens are not only productive but a feast for the eyes, bursting with colour and life. Every corner reveals something new – from vibrant, carefully tended flower beds to stretches of stunning woodland that feel both peaceful and full of character. One of my favourite spots was the picturesque pond areas, where the water reflected the surrounding greenery and created a sense of calm. Everywhere you turn, there’s another hidden gem to admire, making it easy to spend hours soaking in the sights. Dumfries House Gardens is a place where nature, beauty, and thoughtful design come together perfectly – a must-visit for anyone who loves the outdoors.

New Cumnock Outdoor Swimming Pool

If you're looking for a delightful swimming experience, the New Cumnock Outdoor Swimming Pool is definitely worth considering. This facility goes above and beyond to ensure accessibility for all visitors, including those with disabilities. Guests have praised the attentive staff who are ready to assist upon arrival, making sure that everything from changing rooms to access chairs is prepared in advance. Despite chilly weather outside, many have found the pool's water temperature pleasantly warm at 31°C, creating a cozy atmosphere even on rainy days.
Fabulous! We were at the adults session in the evening. Our first time at a pool like this. Water was warm. Sun was shining. Good music playing.Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Inexpensive. Well worth the drive from Edinburgh!
Lorraine K — Google review
Very clean, easily accessable changing areas, showers, and toilets. Pool temperature was surprisingly warm for a heated outdoor pool. Deck level so easy for those who can weight bear to get in and out of the water. Steps at deep and shallow ends of the pool with textured grip on each tread. The staff were attentive, friendly, and very helpful. Looking forward to taking part in a night swim. Definitely recommend, we'll worth a visit.

Hadn't been swimming for a while, so it was good to get back in the water. What made it extra special was the friendliness of the staff, the temperature of the pool & the cleanliness of the facilities. It was so nice to see so many parents & grandparents encouraging their children to swim. Great pool, had a lively swim.
Dorothy S — Google review
Beautiful heated fresh water pool. Changing rooms and showers are very clean. Heather and staff are great. If in the area try to visit. But you do have to call ahead to schedule a time slot for an hour. Plenty of free parking too.
G M — Google review
As a disabled person, on crutches, I was extremely impressed. We had booked in advance (recommended), and the staff were expecting us. We were treated so well. They knew our name, had the disabled access chair waiting for me, and showed us to our disabled changing room. We were well impressed. Two chairs. Big changing bed & hoist if needed. Lockers. Loo & sink, plus shower. My only wee moan, there could have been some hooks for hanging stuff on whilst changing, but certainly not a complaint! The staff were well acquainted with the accessible chair at the pool, and it was a lovely feeling being lowered into the warm water. You get a one hour slot (I didn't want to come out!) and TBH we really enjoyed our swim, and even the background music. LOL One of the staff went above & beyond, and sourced me a pool noodle which is always good for me, to help excercise in the pool. Overall, it was a fantastic, personal, welcoming & beneficial (physically & mentally) experience for us. Can't wait to go back! I'd also love to try a night time experience. Top marks to everyone involved at this wonderful place. 👍🏻

What a hidden gem! Mary and the team did us a solid when we had a mix up with our booking, they made our day to be honest. A clean, very well run facility with an excellent family/kids session with floats, balls etc. Such a rarity to be swimming outside in Scotland and not feel freezing. We'll definitely be back.

Been wanting to visit here for months. Finally we had a Sunday with nothing on, so we packed up and off we went. Now, it was freezing cold and raining outside, but New Cumnock Pool posted a Facebook message saying the water was 31C. The wife was hesitant about the cold all the way during the drive. Even going as far as looking up alternatives nearby just in case. It was an hours drive for us and we arrived at 2:30pm. The kids had a great time and even the wife almost smiled. the pool was in great condition and everything was very clean. The staff were pleasant and we had a great visit. We will defo visit again. I just wish the pool was closer to home.
Garry B — Google review
Wanted to take my kids to the pool I learned to swim in as a kid. Attempted to look on the website (facebook page) for a timetable. None found. Attempted to phone, just got answer machine. So I drove best part of 2 hours only to be told no spaces available. Explained that I had tried ringing the receptionist told me she had about 30 messages to work through, like it was my fault. Rather disappointed to say the least. What sort of system are they running here? Next time I’m in Scotland I’ll go elsewhere.
