Excellent meal - proper good quality pub grub. Lots of choice on the menu. I had fillet steak and he had fish pie. Lots of food - too much for me but thoroughly enjoyed. The service - lots of young staff was brilliant. A great find recommended to us by the owner of our nearby accommodation.

This was the first hotel we stayed at on our west highland way journey. Rooms were well maintained and clean. We shared a bathroom with one other room which wasn't bad. Staff was great and we were even able to check in early which was so appreciated after a long day. Dinner was fantastic. One of the best we had during our 12 days in Scotland.
Ashley H — Google review
We had an excellent meal for two here. Though they were extremely busy, all the young waiting staff were refreshing very attentive and with such a good professional approach. Not surprisingly the service was excellent and food well presented and delicious. Many thanks for making our last evening of our break in Loch Lomond feel special.

This is the second time we’ve eaten here and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is so lovely - cosy and quaint with nice decor too. The staff are friendly and made us feel welcome. The food was 10/10 - tons of choice, big portions and delicious. I had the seafood trio to start and it tasted so fresh. The salmon was incredible - full of flavour and presented beautifully. We had multiple cocktails too and every single one was really nice and presented well. We can’t recommend this place enough - it’s a treasure.

Booked a table for a party of five for lunch mid week. Booking was easy and done in a nice manner . On arrival we were greeted and taken to the restaurant where we decided on the table and then ordered a variety of things from the menu. Staff were both helpful and nice and patient ; they had to be ,decisions decisions were slow on our part . Food came and all looked very appetising ; it was good too and everyone was happy . I remember the food from years ago being very good and while the menu style had changed the quality is still very good . No hesitation to recommend and I look forward to returning. Thank you Clachan team .

Scottish hospitality at it's best! I stopped here a few times on my walking holiday and the staff and locals were so welcoming and friendly. They found a table for me and my dog in the bar when we arrived late, tired and hungry. We'll both be back.

Booked last minute while walking the WHW. It was just what we needed for a wet day. Lovely welcome from the staff. Our room was room 5, the room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was a little tired but functional (no toilet brush), the basin is small and difficult to fill the kettle, but doable. However, there is a bottle of water, but we used that for drinking water. Booked a table for our evening meal and had a very tasty meal (compliments to the chef). The staff were very polite and helpful. Breakfast was tasty and would set us up for the day.

We didn’t stay in the rooms. But we went out for a family meal suggested by a family member who lives up there. The atmosphere was so friendly for younger kids as well. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the meals for the kids were great. The food was very well priced and the food was amazing. Definitely go there if you get the opportunity I will be going back there again. 10/10 on everything.
Adam C — Google review
Absolutely fantastic food! I should have taken photos to include, but unfortunately didn't. I had the spicy chicken enchiladas and they were fab. Loads of chicken inside. The portions were massive, I couldn't finish all my meal as there was so much. The other three dining with me also thoroughly enjoyed their meals (venison lasagnes and burger). Staff were really friendly too. I would highly recommend this place.

Only gave a 4* as we didn’t eat, but from the menu and the food that we seen coming out of the kitchen I think it won’t be long before I upgrade the score. Other than that the staff where lovely, the drinks where too. Said we would be back and we did. Food was lovely. Sorry forgot to take a photo before starting to eat.

hi Team, thank you for your great hospitality. We stayed at your place for the first time last week, but will definitely return. The service, athmosphere, breakfast and the twin room (Dumgoyne) was just awesome. We have also enjoyed the good conversation with Stewart. It was fun to see how he did his best to offer your choice of Islay whiskys. In the end it was a Bunnahabain 12yrs, which I liked very much. Keep going and enjoy :) Cya soon Andy

We stayed at a campsite down the road and came here for a good breakfast before we left. The food was fantastic, the staff were welcoming and it was a lovely pub! We actually forgot some sunglasses and they kindly posted them back up to us - can’t recommend enough.
Tom W — Google review
Ate here a couple of times while camping/ hiking in Trossachs. Food is excellent with service good also. One complaint from last visit where we stopped in for breakfast and to watch the Lions game on a Weds morning in July. The bar was almost empty think there was 1 other customer when we arrived. Asked for TV to be put but a rather sour faced staff member moaned that we would have to watch with no sound. We thought she was joking but a bit later when the game started we asked again, got right moaning face where she turned up the sound but only to an almost inaudible level. By the time the game started there were another 3/4 customers all of whom seemed to be interested in watching the game. Seeing as the bar promotes itself as a Sports Bar its perhaps worthwhile telling some of the staff. Hopefully be better next time we visit.

Excellent pub, drinks and food, and lovely staff! We stopped in Drymen for a night during our road trip in Scotland and were lucky enough to catch the quiz night (Wednesday), which we strongly recommended doing!

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Woodland Experiences is a top outdoor woodland venue in Scotland, located just 40 minutes away from Glasgow and 30 minutes from Stirling. It offers an enchanting experience for families, with a fairy village where kids can complete tasks and receive their own fairy name. The venue also features a snack bar with fresh tasty food, a gift shop with festive items, face painting, and a bouncy castle for the kids. Visitors praise the enthusiastic staff and Santa who engages with each child personally.
It's a great experience with lovely staff We last went around 8 years ago. Felt it was a bit more magical last time! Santa was better this time around though.
Aly M — Google review
We had pretty high hopes for this after hearing about it. The whole idea is fantastic, I haven’t been to one like it. We did however find it a little overwhelming, we had no idea what to expect. My 2 children aged 3 & 18 months were also pretty overwhelmed, the big loud bang of the trailer door gave the kids a fright straight off the bat. Once out the trailer the elves began explaining what was happening next before they had the groups attention, and quickly started walking down to the grotto. After waking Santa up and hearing his footsteps my 3 year old was pretty scared and didn’t want to go in. The elves and Santa didn’t bother to help him feel at ease, they just wanted to get on with the script, so that was fine. My 18month old went in the grotto but didn’t want to get too close to Santa, so I sat with him on the floor which felt inconvenient to the staff. Everything seemed pretty rushed. My little one got to choose a gift and the gifts were better than your average Santa grotto gift so that was brilliant! My 3 year old son who waited outside the grotto with my partner the whole time got excited about Santa when we all came back outside but the elves and Santa didn’t acknowledge him. As he also didn’t get to choose a gift because he didn’t go in the grotto. I asked if he could go in and choose one (considering we paid £24 for him) and the elf replied ‘em I’ll just need to wait and see’ so we waited until she asked someone else. We were allowed in but in their words ‘we had to be quick about it’ so I rushed into the grotto with him for him to choose his present and he never really got the chance to have a look. We had to quickly choose one so I picked up the first thing we seen which was a board game that he has no idea how to play so totally pointless. It put a complete damper on the whole experience. It might have been kind for Santa or the elf’s to make a little more effort with my child considering he missed the whole experience due to being overwhelmed. I think it was totally overpriced, £10 per adult, £10 for my 18month old and £24 for my 3 year old who didn’t get to experience anything apart from the trailer ride. Great concept, could be absolutely fantastic if the staff were a little more compassionate towards frightened or upset children. But I think we might stick to Dobbies where we’re not going to be rushed in and out the door for half the price.

This was our second year ( we visited the farm during covid restrictions). Both times we had a lovely experience! A great day out for kids. Very lovely , kind, helpful staff ( we missed our tractor ride slot this year and they could still accommodate us) Nice face painting and other activities in the barn. Very relaxing, low key atmosphere. Perfect for kids to chill out esp at that time of year. But , without no doubt, the best of it all was meeting the main Man himself. It is a pleasure to visit his hut even being an adult. He is a true Santa. Knows it all. Definitely recommending the place. Well worth to give a go. Thank you guys! 🙏
Laila L — Google review
Lovely Santa experience! It was all run very smoothly. We arrived in good time and could look around before our booked tractor ride out to Santa's cabin. The elves/Santa were great and my 8 year old really enjoyed it. He got to choose a present, which was very good quality. Afterwards we did Marshmallows and a game. Would recommend.
Lindsay W — Google review
Amazing place to take the kids especially at Xmas. You get to visit Santa at the north pole and the kids get to pick a toy and Santa gives you a prezzie for the tree. There is also roasted marshmallows which were yummy!!! My kids told me it was better than enchanted forest 😉 or they liked it better! More kids stuff to do and amazing value for money. The staff are all amazing aswell. It's defo a must see place to put on your list.
Claire N — Google review
Can't praise this enough! We go every year and we love it as much as our kids! Have a great snack bar with fresh tasty food. While waiting for your slot there's the gift shop full of great value, quality festive items and face painting and bouncy castle for the kids at a small supplement. The staff are really accommodating and happy and get everyone involved. The Santa is great too, really speaks to each child and their gift is always good too - no rubbish there! Always love our trip here and highlights include the outdoor roasting marshmallows and throwing snowballs at the snowmen. Definitely worth trying if you haven't done before.
Carrie M — Google review
Absolutely wonderful. The perfect, magical start to Christmas for little (and big) kids alike! Such a superior "Santa experience" - we could never go back to a shopping centre grotto after this! Staff, Santa and elves all so enthusiastic and cheerful. They seemed as delighted to be there as the visitors. New additional activities this year, such as marshmallow toasting and premium face painting, have really improved the experience on last year and it means that you can extend your visit with plenty to do besides the main event - travelling out into the forest to see Santa! Amazingly everything runs super-smoothly, with no significant queues for bouncy tractors, face painting or even the toilets, as there often is at other family attractions. Merchandise is good quality, original and reasonably priced, such as beautiful, boxed baubles, hand-painted with a scene from the farm for £3.50, a lovely keepsake. I cannot recommend this Santa experience highly enough - it's like a little bit of Lapland in Stirlingshire. Santa even made it snow! Brilliant.
Rebecca M — Google review
For the woodland experience it is an excellent place - really captivated my little ones imagination and spent an afternoon here. Been three times. Staff are great with the kids. Needs a bit of tidying here and there but understand its a working progress. For the Santa experience - its a fantastic hour for the children. Your only with santa for about 15 minutes but its more than enough with a tractor ride to and from Santa's cabin. Good presents as well, not cheap stuff that finds its way in to the bin. We been several times now (book early or miss out). Staff are brilliant and play the part. Cannot recommend enough.

Snow Factor is an exciting year-round indoor resort that offers a unique blend of winter sports and relaxation. With its impressive ice-climbing wall, skiing and snowboarding classes, as well as a cozy bar and eatery, it’s the perfect destination for both beginners and seasoned enthusiasts. Visitors have shared their experiences of taking snowboarding lessons here; many found the facilities ideal for newcomers to the sport.
Started my first snowboard lesson on reopening week back in November, was a little challenging as a beginner, but I had fun. Level 2 later that week was not good at all. Being overweight does not make it easy, and I couldn't stand up on the heel edge. With Bradley and James perseverance and making a ledge technique, I started to get there. However had to go back and redo the level 2 as we ran out of time. Onto the level 3 a few weeks later. Was definitely getting easier now, and again thanks to Bradley, we progressed onto level 4 turns as well. Few weeks later and we finished up our lessons on the big slope. Thanks to miles and patsy for the help and advice. Have now been and had a full day ski pass, and having a great time on the big slope, still require some practice and experience, but getting better every run. Overall a great experience, wish I'd done this years ago. Never too late for a mid life crisis! Thanks again to everyone at Snow Factor!!
Richie C — Google review
Had a great group lesson with Mark W in December 2021. Lesson was for level 3 but he also allowed up to venture into level 4 tasks. Felt good about what was taught and have booked my next lesson already. The slope and gear is great however reception staff were lacking some costumer service skills and the toilets would benefit from more regular cleaning.
Eden R — Google review
My husband and myself had enjoyed so much our 2nd snowboarding lessons with Andy! We came with no background but it was always something we wanted to try. We are really looking forward to our third lesson to be able in the future to enjoy a ride by ourselves! Also the staff is very friendly and there is really good facilities and a nice bar where you can relax after the lesson. I would recommend to go in the morning cause it's less busy 😊
Serena P — Google review
Honestly couldn’t ask for a better place to learn skiing. Even in the first lesson, you feel immense confidence because they teach you really well. Our instructor Kristina was extremely helpful, and very patient, even when our turns were monstrous. Would definitely recommend and will definitely go again.
Armaan V — Google review
Great day at Snow Factor! Only my second time snowboarding so was still wary but the slope and facilities were perfect as a starter. Be aware though if you have no snowboarding ability at all and do go for a £55 lesson (Far too pricey) and opt for the full day £30 lift pass then you can potentially be asked to leave the slopes because of danger to yourself and others. The staff were great though and allowed a few runs until we found our feet and picked it up a little bit more. Lesson next time to advance some of my basic skills I think!
Nickmatthew1 — Google review
First time ice climbing with Richard as our instructor. Was a great laugh and interesting to learn the technique. It definitely felt like longer than an hour. Would highly recommend.

I've been going here for years, it's good to keep your snow skills going all year round. Myself and a friend were there last Sunday night for the last hours of the open day and we were the last two on the slope, the staff member Chris was at the top of the Poma but didn't have anyone to look out for falling so he came out and showed me how to do some tricks on the snowboard and also gave me the confidence to ride the box, I've never wanted to do it in case I went flying off the side in front of crowds but as it was empty and he gave me instruction on how to ride it I went for it. Thanks Chris, you went above and beyond.
Scott R — Google review
Great lesson with Lucy last week. I did my Level 4 snowboarding group lesson and whilst all the instructors have been great, Lucy has been the best thus far. She was very approachable, attentive and a great coach. She genuinely cared and made sure I got the best out of my lesson. Hoping to hit the main slope soon so I’ll be back in touch for a private with her!
Brian ( — Google review
My husband and I did our first skiing lesson here and it was amazing! Tim, our instructor was patient, encouraging, and really helped us to feel more confident on the slope (something I never thought I'd say)! We'll definitely be back for another lesson!

Went here recently to see dragged tae the steamie, what a show, amazing, so funny! Went with my mother and great aunt and we used the lift to get to our balcony seats, small but effective lift, toilets a bit small on upper floor, toilets in lower floor larger and have free sanitary products if needed, bars also for alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and snacks, staff all really nice and helpful.

A really decent gig venue: fairly speedy entrance, decent prices at the bar, clean toilets. Tide Lines gave a great performance.
Gwen S — Google review
The show itself was amazing, but the theatre was extremely hot. No air conditioning at all. I was there with my 15week old baby supporting a friend in her show, and I ended up having to strip him to his nappy because of the heat. I was in the back row, so it wasn't even as though I had loads of people around me.

Dean Castle Country Park

Mentioned on

Nature & Parks
Nestled in the heart of Kilmarnock, Dean Castle Country Park spans over 200 acres and offers something for everyone. Visitors can explore scenic trails winding through woodland, open farmland, and wetland areas. The park also features a 14th-century castle museum surrounded by beautifully restored landscapes designed in the early 1900s. With a superb program of events, art galleries, and exhibitions, this friendly tourist attraction is perfect for families.
Amazing place for a morning out. Cafe with coffee, sandwiches and ice cream. Dogs are allowed inside with you to order but must sit outside. There is a covered portion of outdoor seating. Large number of high chairs for children in the dining room. The castle is completely free, three sections to walk into the tour, I was very impressed. Dogs allowed in the courtyard of the castle but not inside, understandably. We just took turns holding the dog or going inside. Beautiful nature trails and a children's play park. Will definitely come back as an easy 20 min walk from the train.

Dean Castle Country Park is a spectacular and absolutely free day out for the whole family! Nestled right in Kilmarnock, this place is an oasis of history and nature that feels a million miles away from the town. The highlight, of course, is the magnificent 14th-century Dean Castle itself. The recent renovations have been done beautifully, and exploring its history and world-class collections of arms and armor is truly captivating. Beyond the castle, the country park is an adventure waiting to happen. We spent hours wandering the woodland paths, spotting wildlife, and just soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. The park is clearly a source of pride for the community. The facilities are excellent, and there's a lovely cafe, "The Laird's Table," for a well-deserved coffee and cake. It's a place that caters to everyone, whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or a family looking for a fun day out. Dean Castle Country Park is a treasure. I can't believe it's free to visit. It's a shining example of what a local park can be, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the area or even just passing through.

An Absolute Gem on Glasgow's Doorstep! I cannot recommend Dean Castle and Country Park highly enough. We visited on a whim, looking for a day out that offered something for everyone, and it completely surpassed all our expectations. First and foremost, the wildlife is the star of the show. Walking through the beautiful, mature parkland, we were thrilled to see fallow deer roam in their expansive enclosures. But the animal encounters don't stop there; The park is also home to a charming collection of farm animals, including friendly sheep, curious goats, and wonderfully content-looking pigs. It was an absolute delight for both children and adults alike. The woodland walks are fantastic. The trails are well-signposted and cater to all levels of fitness, offering peaceful, shaded paths that make you forget you're just a stone's throw from the city. The combination of open parkland and dense woodland is simply beautiful in any season. Speaking of location, the proximity to Glasgow is a massive plus. It's incredibly easy to get to, making it the perfect escape from the urban hustle without needing to spend hours in the car. You can be immersed in this tranquil countryside setting in just minutes. The facilities are top-notch. The visitors centre is a great starting point, with helpful staff and interesting information. A huge bonus for families and anyone on a day out: there are plenty of toilets located conveniently around the park, so you're never caught short! After our long walk, we popped into the cafe for a coffee and a bite. It was lovely, with a good selection of hot and cold food, delicious cakes, and a clean, welcoming atmosphere. It was the perfect way to refuel. And then there's the castle itself – the beautifully maintained Dean Castle. The courtyard is immaculate and feels like stepping back in time, while the gardens surrounding it are a delight, filled with colour and carefully tended plants. In summary, Dean Castle and Country Park is a flawless day out. It seamlessly blends history, nature, and modern convenience. We left feeling refreshed, educated, and already planning our next visit. An undeniable 5-star experience

From my experience, the Dean Castle is one of the best preserved castles in Scotland. We explored the fascinating instrument collection and the impressive armour displays, which made for an amazing experience. After our visit, we enjoyed a delicious coffee and pastry in the cafeteria. The surrounding park is beautiful, with a peaceful river, wildlife and stunning scenery. It was a truly memorable visit.

This place is absolutely beautiful. We went on a day when it was so sunny. Lots of autumn colours. Our dog really enjoyed the walks, some steep hills so if you have trouble I’d say take hiking sticks.

Lovely place to visit for the whole family. Very much enjoyed a walk along the pond and river, seen deers and a nice castle, also enjoyed playground and all for free. Definitely worth coming back once in the area again.

The deer are near the car park entrance, right before the castle! 🦌🦌 We went on the Farm Trail thinking we'd see the deer on the way, but turns out they're right at the start 😭 But!!!! The Farm Trail was so good too with horses, goats, ducks etc !!!

Kind caring and very helpful staff. One of the largest libraries left in the area. Great place to join groups, meet people, have an excellent coffee, use a computer or just find a quiet spot to read or relax. The museum is really interesting and holds different exhibitions throughout the year.

Amazing building in Kilmarnock with two museums inside, library, art gallery and a café. Good exhibitions about Robert Burns and Johnnie Walker, plus lots of historical artefacts. Beautiful and interesting. Free entry!

One of my favourite places since childhood yes I know I'm a nerd . But the recent addition of the coffee shop is amazing I love setting up my books n studying here in the 90s n while the atmosphere of the old reference library is different being able to set up laptop n coffee is definitely way of future . Coffee is one of best in town. Cakes are delicious only critism maybe add. Sandwiches and savoury snacks to menu . Art gallery and Musium has constantly changing interesting exhibitions . I'm shocked no other reviews have mentioned the local hero that is Brian the Lion. Over 100 years old and a delight to meet . . The building itself is a very beautiful old building if you have time take a moment. And admire the architecture. Both inside and out and be grateful for the town planners and council who have invested in this beautiful free resource for us all . Use your local library!!

Excellent fiction and non-fiction libraries, museum and art galleries, and a very good resource centre for research of local history. Also doubles up as a polling station during elections

Wonderful library and space. Sad it's not open on a Monday rather than a Sunday. Some very good exhibitions here and lovely staff too.
Theresa M — Google review
Awful Sunday service in the cafe. Customers who'd joined the queue after me had their drinks served before ours and the two staff looked to be in a constant state of confusion. We're regulars to the cafe but the cappuccinos were way below the usual standard on this occasion, like a watery instant coffee and lacking the chocolate sprinkles, which I had to request.

The Riverside Museum is a cutting-edge facility that showcases an extensive array of historical vehicles and innovative interactive exhibits. Situated by the river, this award-winning transport museum boasts over 3,000 displays ranging from skateboards to locomotives, offering something for visitors of all ages. Housed in a striking building designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, the museum's collection spans from vintage automobiles and trains to prams and even a Stormtrooper.
Anyone that gives this museum less than 5 stars needs to have a word with themselves. This museum is such an asset to Glasgow and worth a visit for all ages. Firstly it’s free which after visiting we couldn’t believe. There is so much to see and do and we spent hours exploring all the exhibits. Inside is split over two floors with all areas wheelchair accessible. You can get up and close with vehicles of all shapes and sizes from old police cars, ambulances and fire engines to steam rollers, motorbikes and cars of every shape and size. It has a great selection of steam trains on display and we loved the old fashioned street display where it felt you were walking back in time and you could explore all the old shops and even subway train. There is a lovely wee cafe and gift shop too.

The Riverside Museum is a fantastic place to visit, especially as admission is free, making it accessible for everyone. Its location right by the river adds to the charm, giving visitors a chance to enjoy the scenic surroundings before or after exploring the museum itself. The building is modern and striking, and once inside, you’re greeted with an impressive collection that feels both inviting and easy to navigate. One of the highlights is the range of lovely old vehicles on display, from vintage cars and trams to classic bikes, which are fascinating to see up close. The museum is also very well thought out in terms of accessibility, with excellent disabled facilities that ensure all visitors can enjoy the experience comfortably. It’s a place that combines history, culture, and atmosphere beautifully, making it well worth a visit.

This museum is a really good day out. Tracks the history of transport from the beginning to now. A good variety of interactive displays to keep the interest. Good for kids and adults. Has a cafe to grab lunch or a quick bite to eat. Well worth a visit.

Free museum, free great knowledge to learn! 7 minutes walking from the Govan station. Took about an hour to skim through this museum. With the ship, needs about 2 hours in total! Good for kids and adults! I would love to visit here again!

Amazing place, one of the best museums we have ever been to, got there at opening time, stayed until around 3.00pm, great coffee, great soup...... The displays are very well laid out with lots of interesting info. The ship conveyer belt was so cool. Great to sit in an old underground train and watch the movie from the 1940s, also the Coronation tram, the old shops and street were so well done..... Love seeing the Caledonian Railway 123 loco, still have my Triang/Hornby one from the 1970s :) Not all about transport, plenty about Glasgow life. The Tall Ship is worth a visit too just behind the museum.
Martin C — Google review
The exhibits at the museum are simply stunning particularly if you’re interested in the history of transport or want a glimpse of Glasgow from yesteryear. There are guided tours available if you want to ensure you don’t miss anything. Highly recommended.

Honestly one of the best well done museum's I have ever seen. Great for anyone of all types. Lots to learn, lots to see and if you just walk around you will still have a great time. Oh it's free or by a recommended donation. One of my favorite places I visited.

A very good place to visit with children. A good collection of old cars, bikes, and a train, and how the streets look. It feels like you have time traveled and are seeing the past with your own eyes. It will feel very nostalgic to the elderly who may remember a few things from their childhood. Free to visit.

Great place to go and have a nice bite to eat or a picnic. We went for glasglow. It was really good but it was overshadowed by the amount of people. Spent ages queing to get pictures and so many rude people were their tonight. Perhaps limit how many you let in at s time. and let people enjoy it instead of just thinking about money.

I love gardens like these. They show so much in rather little spaces across the park, and the plants are simply beautiful. Lots to explore. When visiting, be mindful there may be no bathrooms available, so be ready for this. But overall, this is a lovely place to visit.

Absolutely brilliant museum! Can't miss this one when on Glasgow! Definitely worth spending some time here and then some! Setting aside the great architecture of the building itself the collections are absolutely fantastic catering to varying tastes from Natural History to Painting to Design. And to top it all, it's free! The shop doesn't disappoint either if that's high on your priorities 😉

What an amazing museum!! It was the last stop on my list of things to experience on our trip to Scotland!! And it didn’t disappoint!!! The main thing I wanted to see/hear was the 1 o’clock pipe organ performance…. We took the train from Edinburgh to Glasgow. We had time to explore the museum then at 1 o’clock…. We got some of the best seats and were so excited to enjoy such beautiful music!! What a talented organist!!! Loved how he expressed himself!! He played 7 or so songs!! It was AMAZING!!! And actually the GRAND FINALE to our 30th wedding anniversary trip to Scotland from the USA!! Go visit the Kelvingrove Museum!!

A lovely museum set in an old building and free to enter (donations most welcome to the museum). Pay and display car parking with designated disabled bays £5 per 2hrs at time of posting this review. Wheelchair accessible push button automatic doors to get inside. Lifts to all floors and disabled WC too. Plenty of room inside for wheelchairs to maneuver. The're cafes and gifts shops too. There is Art galleries on one side then there are museum exhibits from dinosaurs to Egyptian mummies and a whole lot more.
H D — Google review
So, we started from Edinburgh for a day trip to Glasgow, and without any specific plans, we randomly chose the Kelvingrove Museum. The building was gorgeous from the outside, and once we stepped inside, it felt like we’d been transported back to the 1950s. The exhibits were plentiful and impressive, and what stood out the most for me and my wife was the Dalí painting on display, as well as the 1 o' clock concert featuring the church organ. That was truly magical, and I’d never heard a church organ live before—it’s an experience I’ll never forget! The entrance is free for everyone, and that something i love about Scotland and their free entrance museums policy.

Well worth the visit. We had about 3 hours. We saw some highlights and those were great. The building itself is spectacular. It is free so no tickets needed. In Glasgow Scotland

Interesting museum and lots of artsy things to see! My favourite would be the artworks across the different centuries and the crowd management was well managed. ♿️ wheelchair accessible entrance and lots of space to move around inside, across different floors. There are elevators inside the museum building.

Lovely museum with a brilliant range of exhibits - not just Art. 2 gift shops, one for adults and one for children, will a lovely range of items. Is free to enter but you need to pay for parking. We paid £7.90 for three hours which was well worth it. There’s a food van in the car park for hot drinks and a bite to eat. We used the EV charger - lead got stuck in the machine and had to call the help line who wouldn’t release us until the car next to us had disconnected. Not the museums issue at all but worth noting if you’re planning on charging there.

The architecture itself is stunning, and the exhibits are very well arranged. I especially loved the variety — from ancient artifacts to modern art and natural history displays. It’s peaceful, educational, and completely free to enter. A must-visit spot for anyone in Glasgow!

On top of the entry tickets, we also booked tickets for the kids planetarium show which came at a small additional charge, but would recommend as it was brilliant.

Brilliant day out at Glasgow Science Centre! We had such a great time, with our 6 year old daughter, there’s loads to see and do for all ages. The interactive exhibits kept everyone entertained for hours, and it’s clear how much effort goes into keeping everything engaging and educational. The staff were friendly and really helpful, and IMAX 3D cinema was a highlight. It’s one of those places where you can easily spend the whole day without getting bored. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Glasgow, whether you’ve got kids or you’re just a big kid yourself!

We noticed the science centre across from where we where staying whilst on a trip for my daughters birthday. We decided to stop by for a visit and we where glad we did. The staff on the ticket desk where very polite and helpful. Inside there was lots to do and see. It was filled with interesting and interactive exhibits. We only stayed for a few hours as we had to catch a flight home but you could easily make it a whole day. My daughter had lots of fun learning new things as we went around. There was also an inclosed play area for children which was lovely my 4 year old didn’t want to leave. There was also a cafe unfortunately we didn’t have the time to try it. My 5 year old has said she wants to go to Scotland for her birthday treat so if we return we would definitely be visiting again as I know my 5 year old would love this just as much if not more.

If you're looking for a great shopping spot, this street is perfect, with plenty of excellent stores and charming cafes. However, be cautious when taking photos, especially if you see the Romani people sitting on the streets. They may view it as an invasion of their privacy, so it's best to avoid photographing them to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Great walk from the top of Buchanan Street down through St Enoch Square to the river. From gift shops to High end retailers this Glasgow Street has it all. If coming to Glasgow it's a must. Sights & Landmarks
Glasgow Cathedral, also known as St. Mungo's, is a significant example of Scottish Gothic architecture and the oldest building in Glasgow. It was consecrated in 1197 and is the only medieval cathedral to have survived the Protestant Reformation in 1560. The lower crypt houses the tomb of Glasgow's patron saint, St. Mungo. Visitors are captivated by its stunning stained glass windows and ornate interior.
Glasgow Cathedral is one of the iconic buildings to visit in Glasgow. Its breathtaking and majestic Gothic architecture is evident both inside and out. The intricate details of the cathedral reveal the rich history of this enduring structure. The cathedral is free to enter, but donations are recommended for the restoration and maintenance of the building. Please note that the last entry is at 4:15 p.m., so you’ll need a full hour to explore everything inside. There’s also plenty of information to read along the way.
Kevin F — Google review
Despite the advised booking of free tickets online, we discovered upon arrival that no one was checking them, and we were permitted to enter freely. We were fortunate to join a free guided tour immediately. The volunteer guide provided excellent context, explaining the history of the cathedral and the reasons for its construction in that location. There is a great deal to see, and visitors who appreciate religious art and history could easily spend several hours inside.
David A — Google review
Stepping into Glasgow Cathedral is like stepping back in time. The architecture is incredibly detailed and mesmerizing, and the history within its walls is palpable. It's a truly unique experience to walk through such a historic place. Plus, it's free to enter, and you can get audio guides for a small fee to learn even more. The cathedral is really well-maintained, and it's a great visual experience. Highly recommend

Glasgow Cathedral is right in the centre of town and a great place to start your visit in Glasgow. It’s a popular site so it’s quite busy, but well worth the visit, there is lots to see inside. It has a huge towering ceiling and there are lower floors to see with spectacular columns, supporting all above. Outside beside the cathedral is a large wonderful cemetery well worth a wander through.

The Glasgow Necropolis is a Victorian-era cemetery that houses the graves and mausoleums of prominent figures from Glasgow's past. Spanning 37 acres, it is a rich source of captivating architecture, sculptures, and historical narratives from the city's Victorian era. With an estimated 50,000 burials and around 3,500 monuments marking them, this cemetery has been described as a 'city of the dead.'
Beautiful cemetery within walking distance of Glasgow city centre. Spent about an hour looking around. I'm sure there would be something interesting to see each visit. Very peaceful with lovely views of Glasgow Cathedral and loved the spring blossom. Free to enter.

Stepping into the Glasgow Necropolis feels less like entering a cemetery and more like discovering an open-air museum. This Victorian masterpiece is an absolute must-see and a true five-star experience. Perched on a hill overlooking Glasgow Cathedral, the Necropolis offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city. As you ascend the winding paths, each turn reveals a new and stunning monument. The sheer scale and intricate detail of the tombs and mausoleums are awe-inspiring, a testament to the city's rich history and the craftsmanship of the time. You can spend hours wandering, reading the fascinating inscriptions, and admiring the varied architectural styles, from Greek Revival to Gothic. The atmosphere is one of serene beauty and historical reverence, not at all eerie. It's a peaceful place for a walk, a spot for contemplation, and a photographer's dream, especially as the light changes throughout the day. The "Bridge of Sighs" that connects the cathedral to the Necropolis is an iconic entry point, setting the stage for the grandeur that awaits. Whether you're a history buff, an architecture enthusiast, or simply looking for a unique and beautiful place to explore in Glasgow, the Necropolis delivers on every front. It's a truly unforgettable place that captures the city's past and offers some of the best views you'll find anywhere.

Absolutely stunning. We love a grave yard and this has to be one of the biggest and best we've been to in the UK. Huge monuments and lots of different graves and structures to look at. It looks out across Glasgow city and you can see the beautiful cathedral from it's banks. Its a bit messy in places with overgrown ivy and trees but I guess this is down to the council and money. It's still stunning though and really gets you appreciating the architecture.

“Grand cemetery of the Victorian elite” as per Google maps! This place is so interesting, full of social history. We were there over an hour and only saw some of it. Following in from the entrance next to Glasgow Cathedral the paths twist and turn getting higher and higher. The view from the higher parts of the Necropolis are breathtaking! We visited on a bright sunny day but I would love to see it at dusk. I think the Necropolis has to be one of the places you should definitely visit when visiting Glasgow. Free entry. Highly recommended!

We were visiting Glasgow for a day trip from Stirling and walked around this fascinating attraction known as the Victorian “city of the dead” situated on a hill just east of Glasgow Cathedral. It is home to approximately 50,000 burials and around 3,500 elaborate monuments and mausoleums. The top of the hill has nice view of the city and the Cathedral.

The large cemetery located behind the Glasgow cathedral. It is very extensive and imposing. The Victorian style tombs tells the power and wealth of those buried there. One of the biggest and noticeable tomb is a monument dedicated to John Knox, while he was actually buried near Giles cathedral at Edinburgh. The place necropolis means city of dead.

Went for a day out with a friend. We were lucky with the weather it was sunny and hot and we spent a few hours just walking around the estate exploring. Plenty of space to explore and some lovely trails. The walled gardens was beautiful and very well maintained. Large outdoor playpark for the kids too. On site cafe was great, very good value for money and the food was lovely and freshly made. We had baked potatoes, strawberry tarts, a coffee and a cold drink each and spent £33. Seating indoors and outdoors. There are bookable tours of the house itself available although I think you have to book in advance. A beautiful place that you could easily spend a whole day exploring.

Visiting Dumfries House Gardens was an absolute delight. The entire space feels serene and perfectly laid out, with a beautiful flow that invites you to wander and explore at your own pace. The walled garden's gorgeous beds had a plethora of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees, from roses and clematis to gladioli and apples. It was nearly overwhelming. The fruit and vegetable gardens are not only productive but a feast for the eyes, bursting with colour and life. Every corner reveals something new – from vibrant, carefully tended flower beds to stretches of stunning woodland that feel both peaceful and full of character. One of my favourite spots was the picturesque pond areas, where the water reflected the surrounding greenery and created a sense of calm. Everywhere you turn, there’s another hidden gem to admire, making it easy to spend hours soaking in the sights. Dumfries House Gardens is a place where nature, beauty, and thoughtful design come together perfectly – a must-visit for anyone who loves the outdoors.

Fantastic visit to the Blackstone farm. Kids had great fun having a shot in the digger. Magi and John were so friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend. We will definitely be going back at some point. Kids also loved seeing the friendly Clydesdales, the Peacocks, Guinea fowl and characterful pigs.

6 of us had a fantastic night out. Food was immense and service was great. Suki and Dapi took great care of us. Fantastic place for Vegetarian and Vegans, lots of choices. Meat eaters also catered for.

Really enjoyed the experience and location, right next to a small beautiful park. On street parking available but make sure you park after 6 or the parking attendant will give you a ticket. Food great, really friendly young server homely and family friendly.

Excellet place to eat, sat outside on Sunday 28th of April on a nice day next to the wee river. I had the chilli scampi bites and kimchi fries, excellent, my son had the fish & chips which he said was the best he's had in a long time, it's all he eats and he was impressed that the batter was crisp but stayed stuck to the fish when cut, and my wife had the fish stew, she loved it, in fact an hour later she said she wished she could eat it again. Only been open under the new owners, who apparently own the local Indian place called Taal, for 3 weeks which was a huge surprise given the quality & service, usually there's lots of teething problems, my wife is a retired chef and she was equally impressed. Dog friendly, even at the bar area. Service staff were excellent as well, I must however apologize again for breaking a plate, got my foot caught and stumbled knocking a plate over. Will definitely eat there again if back in Strathhaven, can't recommend the place enough, 6 stars. Thank you.

My husband and I had lunch here,I had two starters and he had a main . I had the calamari which had no lemon with it and it was served with raw cabbage, not slaw which would been better. The Thai beef salad , the beef was overcooked. The croutons in halloumi salad were really hard.
Debbie B — Google review
I enjoyed the food as I chose a couple of options from the Vegan menu, service was good, location next to the stream was nice and the service was good, the only thing I was not expecting is to be charged £6.50 for two glasses of Draft soda water.. in other words fizzy tap water. I wasn’t expecting it for free because I appreciate they have overheads to cover but I have never been charged £3.25 for a glass of tap water. Other than that I would have given it a 5 star rating

Chose this amazing little bar/restaurant for our first meal out on our Babymoon and it didn't disappoint! The service was brilliant, with socially distant covid measures in place including screens, plenty of hand sanitiser and all staff in masks. The staff were very friendly and polite and the food was absolutely beautiful! Such a lovely selection, we were spoiled for choice! After much deliberation, my partner and I both went for the soup of the day, which was tomato, chilli and red pepper - it was superb! Then for mains, my partner went for the fish & chips with minted peas and I opted for the 3 cheese macaroni. The portion sizes were huge!! So much so, we were unable to squeeze in a dessert, much to my disappointment. I'd definitely recommend this place and would certainly go back if we were ever to visit Strathaven again!

Trying too hard and not quite nailing it. Tonight we ate a mix from the pre theatre and a la carte menus and some of the combinations were interesting but I would say not so successful. The scallops starter @ £8.95 was underwhelming and I thought undercooked (just) , with the cauliflower purée non existent smear across plate. Main course tandoori haddock didn’t work. A nice piece of haddock “ruined”. Dry pilau rice. Chicken with spiced spaghetti a random choice but my son enjoyed it. Korean noodles OK too. The sticky toffee mess for puddings was too heavy, really thick toffee caramel and could’ve been better. Best choice of the evening was my youngest sons kids meal. Nice fish and chips in crispy batter and good starter and pudding too. Overall disappointing and better elsewhere for the price (£145 for 5) for a Friday evening pub meal. After meal glass of port couldn’t even find a decent glass.... pity. Coffee good !! Waiting staff excellent.

Goulding's Garden Centre is a delightful destination that offers a magical winter wonderland experience, perfect for families. Children can enjoy an enchanting visit with Santa, who takes the time to engage with each child personally. While the toy selection may not cater perfectly to older kids, younger ones are sure to find something they love. The centre also features a fun VR experience and includes activities like tractor rides through animal exhibits, making it an all-around fantastic outing for little ones.
Back for another lunch - love the salads here - well worth the one hour drive !!! Had lunch with a friend here today - both opted for the Paradise Chicken special with salad and chips - well wow, what an amazing dish - the salad was huge, the chicken was delicious - both totally loved it. Great staff. Haven’t been for a while (due to distance) but looks like the cafe has had a makeover - really comfy seats as well. Fantastic place.

I live 500 miles away but wanted to treat my mother-in-law who loves to go to Gouldings for a cup of tea and cake as a treat. Ordered gift vouchers online, emailed to ask for prompt postage so they arrived quickly and got a lovely reply. The gift vouchers arrived the next day. Fabulous customer service. Highly recommend them for that alone and my in laws love the place so it has to be good! Thank you!

First visit to the garden centre and we weren’t disappointed. A lovely shopping area which is light and bright. It was that time of the day when food was needed! A good variety of food for meat eaters and vegetarians however not sure on a vegan choice. Fairly priced on the whole , a little disappointed by the number of wedges given for £6.95 however that would not deter us from eating there again. The staff without exception were smart and friendly which is a definite plus. This might sound silly but the toilets were spotless too although the restaurant had been full - so that’s another thumbs up! Well done to all.

Bought some gifts and then on to the restaurant. It was very busy, as always at lunchtime, but we did not have to wait long for a table. Food was delicious, freshly prepared and served by friendly staff. Not the first time that we have eaten here and it won’t be the last. Personally, I would say it serves the best food out of all the garden centres in the area, good value too!
Michael B — Google review
Came here for the winter wonderland. My 3 and 6 year olds loved it. The area before Santa was great. Santa himself was brilliant. Took lots of time to chat to the kids. The only thing that let it down was that the choice of toys for my 6 year old wasn’t great. My 3 year old loved her toy. The VR experience was great although a little pricey (£6 per person) but felt it was good for my 6 year old as he wasn’t overly impressed with the toy choice. Really well set out though and great for the kids. The hot chocolate was lovely! Shout out to the staff too who were friendly and helpful.

Staff are lovely and it’s a really nice cafe but if I wanted a DIY baked potato then I’d have made one at home. Serving it with a dish of hard white grated cheese is not appealing. Cheese should be melted over the potato, and please don’t say I should have asked for that, it should be standard. It arrived at the table that way and I’m always wary of sending anything back to the kitchen.

The Scottish Owl Centre, located at Polkemmet Country Park near Whitburn, is home to one of the world's largest collections of owls. Visitors can enjoy flying displays, have their photos taken holding an owl, and immerse themselves in the rainforest realm to experience tropical owls. Despite its seemingly small appearance, the center boasts a phenomenal variety of birds and owls in enclosures that may be on the smaller side but still keep the birds happy.
We absolutely loved our visit here. The staff are so passionate about their care of the owls, their wellbeing is paramount. We arrived at 10:30 and didn't leave until 16:15 so we'll worth the entry fee (approx £20 for 2 adults). Highly recommended for anyone who loves owls, we saw a huge array of species, many of which we had not seen before. Even the rain didn't spoil it for us, as thankfully the flying displays are in an indoor arena. Picnic tables are undercover, and there's also a cafe in the same grounds. Thanks to all staff for a fantastic day.
Claire F — Google review
Truly fantastic hidden gem of a place. Very informative and great opportunity to see these beautiful birds up close. The flying demonstration and keeper talk was great. Entry prices are £11.50 for an adult and you can go in and out as much as you want during the day.
Tracey M — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Visiting the Scottish Owl Centre was absolutely magical! From the moment we arrived, the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about these magnificent birds. The centre houses over 140 owls from around the world, and each one felt treated with care and respect. The flying displays were a breathtaking highlight — watching the owls soar gracefully, hearing their wings in motion, and learning about their habits in such an up-close setting was an experience I’ll never forget. The centre’s grounds are lovely, with picnic areas and an adventure playground for children, making it a full day out for families. And the gift shop offers unique items so you can take a little piece of the experience home. If you’re anywhere near West Lothian (or even further!), I highly recommend making the trip. It’s informative, inspiring, and utterly enchanting. Whether you’re an avid bird lover or just looking for a memorable day out, the Scottish Owl Centre is a must-visit.

Absolutely amazing centre, went for it opening on a weekday and it was really quiet. Enclosures are brilliant and customised to each owl, staff were all friendly and knowledgeable, the flying show was brilliant the owls got so close and all the information was great. Would definitely go back

AMAZING!!! Highly recommend this place. They know their owls and treat them well. Very well maintained and clearly well managed. We did the owl encounter and were able to hold an owl (with a leather glove of course) and it was amazing to experience. The whole time they are teaching and informing. Love the staff, love the owls.
Juniper S — Google review
I think it was a brilliant experience. While it is like a zoo, the aim of the centre is to give the owls a chance to recover their population and provide a safe haven. The enclosures are well looked after and the owls are so pretty. It's nothing like an owl cafe.
Debakshi M — Google review
It was amazing! Loved the experience even in the cold month of November, the owl show was so good and Nicole did such a good job with the showcase. I also loved the kukaburra surprise! Didn't think I'd see it in real life 😍

Popped in here for lunch, very friendly staff, food very good, home made and more than enough. Son loved the cheeseburger and said its the best he's had. Decor could be freshed up.

Cute local inn. We were pleasantly surprised by the food they served. Haggis and a lentil vegetables soup as starters and chicken supreme, burger and kari special as the main course. The waiter was friendly and we were offered a free coffee as an apology for a hiccup in the order which was nice. Interior and toilets look a bit dated though. Another complaint would be that the cash mashine was out of order which meant we had to look for an atm in the surrounding area.

First time I've been in around 20 years. The decor hasn't changed much, but the food was lovely. Excellent value for money, the kids meal in particular ( my wee one got the mac and cheese, and it wasn't much smaller than the adult portion). The only let down was the soft drinks selection, but I think it was a one off issue. We'll definitely be back.

Had the haggis starter and fish and chips as main, everything seemed to be deep fried. Toilets were awful, not dirty as in not been cleaned but really run down, no toilet seat on one of the toilets and just really needing a revamp. Service was really good though, staff were friendly and helpful.

Just been up for a meal with friends. Hadn't been there for 2 years. Food and service was excellent. Gr8 night. Did recommend to bar staff to get rid of the tables in bar for better ones, which they took on board as there's new owners coming in soon. Give it a try folks.

Crawick Multiverse, located near Sanquhar, is an impressive open-air art and science attraction created by Charles Jencks. This unique site was developed from a former coal mine into a vast landmark featuring cosmic themes. Visitors can explore standing stones, comet explosions, Milky Way spirals, and enjoy panoramic views of the Upper Nithsdale Valley. The outdoor art installation offers well-thought-out walks with informative and beautiful art installations that are both walkable and admirable.
Visited on a Friday during the Easter hols.V lucky with the weather as sun shining and lovely drive down to there.Place itself was amazing.Hreat exercise, plenty fresh air, not crowded but quite a few other visitors.Brought a picnic and ate it at the top of one of the hills but plenty picnic inches and areas for resting/eating. Kiosk manned for ticketing and drinks and snacks. Girl serving there was friendly and helpful - nice to see someone happy in their job. Great family day out overall - something a bit different. Highly recommended.

Brilliant place created from an abandoned coal mine. There is plenty of parking, toilets and refreshments available. Dog friendly. There are two walking routes, one easier than the other. Some spectacular views, well worth a visit.

This place is epic , took artist 10 years to do all the land art . It's huge , if you love stone circles and art this place has both . The views from there are amazing. Large picnic area and little on site shop .
Zarina B — Google review
Quirky but well worth a visit. Impressive use of a former open cast coal mine to host art about the universe on a monumental scale. Also lots of nice spots for a picnic, plenty of parking and helpful staff in the shop. It’s beautiful but exposed so dress for the weather!
Adrian F — Google review
I think the transformation of a coal mine to this beautiful and interesting park is phenomenal (try to read the history behind it , before you visit and it will make sense). It is so well kept, wonderful spots to sit and soak the energy of the area. Ideal for sunny and warm days to have a picnic (don't forget to clean after your mess).
Noise W — Google review
We arrived on motorbikes & pleased to see there was m/c parking on tarmac. The grounds are interesting and there's information on most of the sculptures. I would definitely bring a picnic in the future and soak up the atmosphere.
Stephanie M — Google review
Amazing scenic place with lots of land art pieces. Entrance was £8.50 for adults. There is plenty of free car parking and a few disabled bays. There is an onsite disabled WC which just fits an adult size manual wheelchair, the admission cabin has a few snacks, ice cream and hot cold drinks for purchase as well as a helpful staff that will point out which routes are accessible. This place was only accessible with an outdoors assisted scooter such as a tramper or mountain trike otherwise wheelchair users will struggle as the ground is loose hard-core that will dig into wheelchairs castors plus there are steep inclines which makes the place a wheelchair trip hazard. Best try to time it on a sunny day as it can get bit windy up on there.

Visitors can delve into history at the award-winning visitor center, which features engaging attractions like the Annie MacLeod ghost ride and a stunning roof garden boasting panoramic views.
Very nice place to walk around - lots to see and do - but the views of the Falls are the best thing about it still. I was staying in the hotel and the weather picked up so I had a good walk round before the rain reappeared. Used to come years ago with the kids - and it is still as beautiful. Nicely looked after. Well worth a visit, especially if you haven’t been before.

New Lanark is a fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Site with an industrial past dating back to the late 18th century. The mill complex was founded in 1785 and is famously linked to social pioneer Robert Owen, who transformed it into a model village for mill workers. The restored stone buildings—including the mills, workers’ housing and school—are beautifully preserved and give a real sense of history. Parking is available at the top of the hill with a short walk down to the village; limited disabled parking spaces are provided near ticket office There are plenty of picnic tables dotted around the site, making it easy to bring your own food if you prefer. The on-site café offers good quality meals and snacks, though I found the prices a little on the high side. Clean and well-maintained toilets are plentiful throughout the complex. Great walk to falls Clyde Overall, New Lanark is a wonderful day out for anyone interested in Scotland’s industrial heritage, social history, or simply enjoying a scenic riverside walk.
Debz X — Google review
Simply fantastic National heritage site, with great walks, museums, a coffee shop, and photo opportunities are endless, along with a good amount of parking. I loved how professionally run the whole area was.

A beautiful place to visit to experience both Nature and cultural heritage. The walk around the gorge makes for a great day out but expect to be relatively close to the gorge edge so not suitable for young children. The Autumn colours are just stunning and I'll be returning in the spring to see what the area has to offer.
RangerJo W — Google review
This is a place that will suit everyone. Adults will find the history and the living conditions of the mill workers interesting. Children will enjoy a short ride inside the building on gondolas with interactive characters. Everyone will be amazed by the beauty of the landscape and the waterfalls of the River Clyde.
Dmitrii S — Google review
Initially I wasn't impressed but once I explored more I realized it was fantastic. So much learn and explore both inside and out! Highlights: The mill tour is very well laid out to keep attention of adults and children. You follow the route through each floor and there are various interactive displays showing life in the co-operative. The attention to detail is fantastic. The immersive ride puts you right into the story. Challenges: The parking doesn't have great signage, from the village entrance you have to take the opposite road and drive past several lots to get to the main lot.

The Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre is situated within the World Heritage Site and offers an opportunity to learn more about the natural beauty and history of the area.
Wonderful natural attraction set in lovely surroundings, the area was spotlessly clean and people who were there were respectful of the area. The staff were very polite and helpful and every step of the way there was information to tell you what was what and the history of the area. The walk up to the higher falls looked treacherous on the day we visited as it had rained, so we chose to just view the lower falls, they were still lovely though.

A Stunning & Enjoyable Walk at Clyde Falls What a beautiful visit! The visitor centre at Clyde Falls is lovely, and we thoroughly enjoyed the walk along the Falls of Clyde. The scenery is absolutely stunning, and we were pleasantly surprised that the walk wasn't as tough as we'd anticipated. It was a really enjoyable experience for all of us, including our two dogs who loved every minute of it. Highly recommend!

Was a lovely walk, we went to the bridge at roughly the half way point, that was plenty far enough with a 4 and 7 year old. It was really beautiful, the viewing points were great to get pictures. Clean and kept tidy.

A beautiful, long walk with stunning waterfalls. We walked around the path and over the bridge, heading back down the other side. A few hilly areas but plenty of places to sit and take in the lovely views. We ended up walking into Lanark and had walked 8 miles by the time we returned to the car. A beautiful day out

Very interesting museum about the lead mining in the area. It is worth doing the tour as the guides are very knowledgeable . Stuart was very interactive with the tour members. It was an afterthought that we stopped at this place for a tour of the mines, but it should've been our main event. We were so impressed and had a great time! Our guide Steve was very friendly and informative. There is quite a lot to the mines and you will have to wear a helmet (you are likely going to hit your head as you can't quite stand straight through most of it), part of it drips a lot so take a jacket. Following the tour of the mines, we were guided to the cottages and the fascinating library etc. All in, it took an hour and a half, and then there is a little museum in the main building. We were too late to book online but called up and were told there was plenty of space to just turn up. Free parking and toilets.

What an amazing place to visit. First of all the staff were so welcoming. They were not stuffy but really nice people to be around. Stuart, our guide, a qualified geologist, was amazing. If you ever pass by Biggar, stop and visit this museum! What a precious hidden gem! Starting with the staff, who’s absolutely helpful and nice. Then the models… with adorable and funny details. And finally the shops in the back!! My goodness, the level of detail takes you back in time. Suddenly you are in a 19th century neighbourhood, visiting the grocery or the pharmacy. One of the best museums I’ve visited!

It was the best small town museum I have ever been to. Well laid out, excellent signage. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff about all things local a must visit if you ever go to Biggar.

Fabulous wee museum...the volunteer staff were absolutely fantastic. Made us really welcome and gave us a great insight into some other exhibits...highly recommended.
Jake S — Google review
Fantastic wee museum. The replica shops were fascinating. Tip - if you visit the museum there is reserved parking spaces with no time limit for visitors at the door. Most of the parking in Biggar is for a limited time
Brian H — Google review
Great little museum. Although most of the exhibits are aimed at an adult audience, there's a couple of hunt and quiz type things for kids as well as dressing up and toy boxes which kept my 3 year old occupied for two hours while the adults enjoyed the museum. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the exhibits are so varied that there really is something for everyone in here. Very enjoyable and fascinating place. Five stars

I miss thé scatted museums across biggar but the new museum has a fantastic collection of displays helping everyone who’s interested learn about the history of biggar and the area

My grandson loved going round this little museum. It is full of interesting things with loads of information. We especially loved the old shops and my grandson loved playing at peaver. He also really enjoyed finding all the objects on the treasure hunt. He was also tickled pink at receiving a William Wallace badge because he had completed the treasure hunt. We can heartily recommend a visit to the Museum if you are in Biggar. The toilets are also spotlessly clean. 5 stars⭐

Purves Puppets - Biggar Puppet Theatre

Puppet theater
Concerts & Shows
Performances
Biggar Puppet Theatre is located between two major Scottish cities, which provides quite easy access from densely populated areas. It's beautifully located and it's definitely one of these very unique places worth visiting. It turns out to be a family business with creativity in its heart. Ian, the founder of this theatre, talked about the history of it and led people to take their places. It's an old Victorian building converted to be a theatre with distinctive ornaments inside. The show, which I attended with my family, was a mix of traditional puppetry and use of the contemporary technology. It appeared to be very enjoyable but could have had a much more meaningful storyline. Halfway through the show there was an interval, which appeared to be almost half an hour long, so visitors could have their brunch. Though, from my perspective it's far too long for the audience of this age. I would have rather stayed for lunch after the performance. Nevertheless, it's great place to visit with kids and I would strongly recommend it to everyone. Book tickets in advance. It has amazing outdoor area for a picnic with kids when it's warmer outside.

A Doors open day opportunity to visit. A family run puppet theatre for all ages. To get a look around the theatre and learn about its history was really interesting. Also, a treat to see part of a small show. There was also a cafe, visitors shop and an antique sale. The staff were very friendly and nothing was any bother. Well worth going to a puppet show.

The kids really enjoyed their visit to the puppet theatre. Looking forward to going back for their Christmas show!
Kelvin C — Google review
Amazing staff and brilliant to see the theatre still looking as good as I remember it as a kid! Excellent that the seats and table pre show are reserved to save you rushing for seats together as a family. Was amazing to take my kids along with my mum. Unlocked some memories! Forgot all about blowing the candles out at the start of the show.

A national treasure. I came to many shows as a boy and now 30+ years later I'm back with my own son who absolutely loves it. The shows are fun and interactive and well pitched for young children. The theatre is absolutely beautiful.

This was simply fantastic - my 2 and 5 year olds loved it. And a lovely lunch table service made it a memorable afternoon out. The kids can't wait to go back!

What a legitimately warm and wonderful experience. Three Adults and one toddler enjoyed this Saturday morning show from beginning to end. We will happily return and would recommend it to anyone for a very cute, very fun experience that everyone in the family would enjoy.

Family feel to a great day out for kids! My two boys are 15 months and were just about able to enjoy it while all older children loved it - a great experience.

New Abbey Corn Mill

Mill
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
This 18th-century water-powered mill, which is part of a list of historic places, fits in well with its surroundings. It serves as a preserved example of the miners' craft and acts as a time capsule. Even today, it remains functional and is used to demonstrate the process of making oatmeal to visitors. The mill has been carefully restored to resemble its appearance and operation from two centuries ago.
Interesting place of local history. Unfortunately when we went, the actual waterwheel part of the mill was covered by scaffolding and a white cover, so we couldn't see it. However still an interesting walk around with information about how it relates to the local community. There is an introductory video to watch at the start of the tour and there was also a children's quiz on offer. Separate to the mill, and available to see without charge is the millpond that fed the waterwheel, that is just up the hill. At the time we visited, the water level was very low due to leaks.

Choice of guided or self-guided tours. By its very nature, difficult access to upper floors. Enjoyed the historical sense of atmosphere. Parking a short distance away, small areas of seating available.
Richard T — Google review
Fabulous history of the mill. How it began and changed over the years was detailed in a guided tour as well as informative plaques. The mi is open from top to bottom and we had a chance to see all of the workings. A great experience.

Fascinating little mill with a long and interesting history. Guide was knowledgeable and spoke in a lively way. Glad we stopped.

Fabulous visit to New Abbey Corn Mill. We visited as a family of 6 and had a lovely time. Claire was a brilliant guide, very bubbly and enthusiastic about the mill, and she made the history really live. Super informative and really interesting. Thank you so much!

We just finished a wonderful tour of the New Abbey Corn Mill with Claire. Extremely informative and interesting and well worth a visit. Thanks Claire.

A time capsule from 1945 when it ceased to be used. Knowledgeable friendly staff as is the norm. Unfortunately they couldn't run the mill due to some invasive plant life in the mill pond, which will be resolved soon. They do normally run it twice every day except sundays outside of winter.

Sweetheart Abbey

Abbey
Sights & Landmarks
Sweetheart Abbey is a historic Cistercian abbey dating back to the 13th century, surrounded by tranquil grounds. The abbey was founded by Lady Dervorgilla of Galloway in memory of her late husband, Lord John Balliol. The red sandstone ruins are a beautiful sight and offer a glimpse into the gothic romance that inspired its creation. Visitors can enjoy the stunning landscape while indulging in delicious scones at the on-site coffee shop.
I was there April 25, access was restricted although you could get inside the cloisters and walk around the perimeter. This is an abbey of some historical significance where John Balliol's mother was buried with her husband's embalmed heart, hence the name. The graveyard is well kept and contains some interesting graves. There is plenty of car parking and clean fresh toilet facilities in the carpark. This place is still an impressive structure
Alan H — Google review
Superb Abbey, peaceful and historic (built in 1273). Can visit the insides of the abbey somewhat thought restrictions do persist owing to the ongoing masonry checks. Hope to revisit once fully open. It is staffed, guidebooks and postcards available to purchase (£3.50 and 60p for non-members, otherwise £2.80 and 48p). Worth a visit in conjunction with New Abbey Corn Mill (5 min walk, 2 min drive). Car park has lots of spaces, yet gets busy as it's a public car park and shared with the Bowls club, New Abbey Corn Mill has 4 spaces.
Joshua T — Google review
A nice look around but was covered in scaffolding and closed off for the majority when I visited. It also states donations welcome, then when we walked on site got collared by someone working there stating it's a donations only, which was a bit misleading (I only wanted a picture to be honest).
Tom R — Google review
Beautiful ruin, from inside the grounds and from inside the graveyard. When we went it was a beautiful day too which really helped the photos pop. I managed to get loads of good images which I'll attach a couple but honestly if your looking for something to do and like old architecture and old overgrown graveyards this is the place I got a few very gothicy pictures. Think I paid £2.50 to get inside the Abbey and didn't pay for the kids. Definitely worth a visit, even with Harris Fencing and Scaffold up inside the Abbey.
Robert T — Google review
Great easy stop. Plenty of parking. Most of the Abbey is behind a fence but the cemetery is very interesting to walk around.
Axel G — Google review
Ruins of an abbey in New Abbey. At the moment it is free to enter, but they are looking at charging in the future. There is a free car park just outside, but there are no other facilities at the site.
Anthony B — Google review
Free public car park as no Historic Scotland parking available. Was met by very enthusiastic custodian, who volunteered information freely about the Abbey. Worth a short visit, due to partial restrictions caused by masonry issues.
Richard T — Google review
Historic Scotland were busy with restoration when we visited, still able to walk around the outside with the dogs, worth a visit if you like ruins

Caerlaverock Castle

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Caerlaverock Castle is a stunning medieval fortress located in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The castle features a striking twin-towered gatehouse and is surrounded by a moat, making it an impressive sight. Its pink sandstone structure stands as a testament to its tumultuous past, having been involved in battles for the Scottish border. Built in the late 13th century on the site of earlier fortifications, the castle bears the scars of its turbulent history.
We really enjoyed our visit here. As members there was no entrance fee, but even if we were paying the entrance fees due a family of 3 was really reasonable. The castle ans grounds are really well looked after and there is a lot of interesting things to see inside the castle. It is definitely worth walking to the old castle ruins just a 5 minute walk behind the main castle. It is a great place to take a picnic and there is also a really nice park for the kids too tuckered away.
Maxine B — Google review
The road to the castle is a disaster! The gift shop and castle are worthy the visit. Staff very friendly and welcoming. We didn't go into the castle but I did take the dog around the moat as suggested by a staff member. I took lots of pictures. Beautiful views, the only thing that was a slight inconvenience is i didn't wear the right footwear! It's was a little wet around the back of the castle and my feet got soaked. Obviously this is my fault and no fault of the castle grounds. I was wearing trainers, I'd recommend boots or Wellingtons. Beautiful place though.

Absolutely loved this place. Soo unique in design. We visit lots of castles up and down the country and this is one of the most memorable. Beautiful surroundings, loads of history and some very knowledgeable, friendly staff. We will revisit, next time we pass through. Highly recommended

Our favorite castle of the 10 we visited on our 2 week roadtrip. Loved the kind staff and how you feel like you have the place to yourself to explore. It really feels like a fairytale with a moat and original site you can walk to nearby. So pictaresque and worth the drive.

Fabulous little castle, really interesting place with loads of history. Only a short journey from Dumfries. We didn't have to book ahead of time and were able to park easily. They also have a great little shop and small cafe. Lots of places to have a picnic and the area is great for dogs, with some nice paths and walks
Ricky H — Google review
Great place to visit, some restoration work being carried out, at present.Good car parking area, gift shop and video area to educate you on the history of the site. You do a small walk to the original castle site. Well worth a visit. Some areas of the castle are not accessible by wheel chair, for obvious reasons.
Spider — Google review
My favorite Castle of my first 9 days in Scotland. This one has a moat, like a true castle should. The draw bridge was destroyed centuries ago, along with part of the roof, and sections of it have been exposed to the elements for some time. There are sections repaired allowing access to the multiple levels where there is a roof protection that section. The prison was in good condition too. Crazy to know the prisoners were just tossed from 2 stories into the pit. Don’t bother checking out the original castle a short walk away, as it is flattened, and the perimeter blocks are all left near foundation level. Check out my photos.
Will C — Google review
Very interesting Castle/s. Parts were closed off but there was enough to have a wander around (albeit it's not particularly large for a castle. The staff in the shop/visitor centre were helpful and friendly. Worth a visit if you like castles/historic buildings.

Dino Park at Hetland offers a journey back in time to the prehistoric era, featuring safari-style walks among model dinosaurs and interactive workshops for kids. Visitors can explore the Dino Mine, learn fascinating facts in the Dino Den, and engage in activities like fossil digging and bouncing on dinosaur-themed attractions. The park also boasts a wooded area with lifelike dinosaur models equipped with motion sensors that trigger realistic sounds upon approach.
Great place to bring younger ones reasonable price to get in. Good/fair weather needed to get the best out of the actual Dino bit. You need to walk through the garden centre to get to the Dino park. Staff are really helpful in both the garden centre and Dino park. Tropical feel to the walk around part, and lots of animatronic Dino's to look at with a genuine Jurassic park film theme running through it. Soft play is big enough with a toddler/baby area and wasn't too busy when we were there To the owners, congrats you've done a unique job and hope you feel it's been worth it. Personally loved the foliage, mine and the bridge.
Alli S — Google review
Visited Hetland Garden Centre and Dino Park with my extended family of young adults. We all ate at the garden centre's cafe which had a well catered menu with options for vegans and intolerances. There was also a good selection of delectable cakes and desserts. A little on the expensive side but the food and service were all very good. The Dino Park was reasonably priced at £6 for adults and cheaper for children. The staff member was extremely friendly and helpful and the Park itself was well laid out with plenty to see and explore.

Absolutely brilliant family day out. We brought our 3yr old son for the first time and he had a great day. He said "best day ever!" Lots to do and see. Not expensive either.
Lou G — Google review
Absolutely rubbish! We paid over £50 to see a bunch of plastic dinosaurs that don't even move...you can walk around it in less than 10 minutes, and they make you pay extra for soft play! The place is an absolute waste of time and money and looking very tired. The restaurant wasn't much better, lots of flies in the cake cabinet and the meals are more like kids party food! Please don't waste your money here! Go to one of the other local amazing farm parks or activities!
Scott — Google review
The dinosaur trail only takes 10/15m to walk around, but you stop and explore, 'digging' up bones and exploring the area. We stayed for about 2 hours, did three laps and spend an hour in the soft play. Decent hot food, really engaging staff with the kids, and unlike a lot of soft plays not cramped and really well maintained. Absolute must stop with dinosaur obsessed toddlers. A real gem.
Richard B — Google review
Loved it. Went close to opening time and it was so lovely and quiet, perfect for my 3 autistic boys. Lots of different dinosaurs to see and they loved digging for fossils. Nice little playground in the middle for a run around. The soft play was good, not too big so easy to keep an eye on the kids. Staff were all very nice and friendly, talked us through the whole thing before we went in. It was just great.
Danielle S — Google review
Great place. Lots of variety for little ones. Good selection of dinosaurs, well landscaped, a lovely wooden park, one of the best soft plays I've ever seen, and the food was delicious. I'm gluten free and they had loads of GF cakes to choose from! My little boy had a brilliant time. We've also been when they decorate it around Christmas time and it looks great
Gail S — Google review
Our 2 year old had a fantastic time, loved the dinosaur models and sound effects, and the playground was really good too. He spent a good 20 minutes playing in there alone. Recommended for any children with a dinosaur interest!
