Tuscany - the blessed land. The vineyards and olives produce heavenly liquids, perfect for savouring on earth. Ciacci Piccolomini D’Aragona holds a special place in my heart. Paolo and his dedicated sommeliers will ensure an unforgettable experience in their beautiful vineyard. And if you’re a fan of Eroica and cycling, Paolo is your man. His museum will transport you back in time to one of the most beautiful sports there is!

Our visit to Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona was one of the absolute highlights of our time in Montalcino. From the moment we arrived, the setting took our breath away — rolling vineyards, peaceful views, and that perfect Tuscan charm you hope for when you dream of wine country. The tasting itself was fantastic, and Virginia made it even better. She was warm, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable — the kind of host who makes you feel like an old friend rather than just another visitor. Her explanations of each wine, the estate’s history, and how the local weather shapes the flavors were fascinating. And just when we thought the experience couldn’t get any better, she gave us a list of amazing local food recommendations that paired beautifully with the wines (and, yes, we tried them — she was spot on!). We left with full hearts, a few extra bottles in the car, and the feeling that we’d discovered something truly special. If you’re visiting Montalcino, don’t miss this place — and if you’re lucky enough to have Virginia as your guide, you’re in for a treat.
Drake M — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous views, friendly staff (shout out to Virginia), and fabulous olive oil and wine!
Kelsey — Google review
We had amazing time with Virginia. One of the best places to visit! Wine is so good we ordered for shipping!
Don M — Google review
The setting of this winery is epic, I highly recommend a visit. We had an amazing host who walked us through the wine and olive oil and history of the property. The only negative is that for us the prices per bottle + shipping didn’t justify a purchase to send home. The prices of most of the bottles on offer were higher than back home for the same bottle before the $70 shipping per six.
Daniel J — Google review
We had the best time visiting Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona - Virginia was incredible! She spoke wonderful English and taught us so much about the family history and the wine making process. She made it so fun and enjoyable. The tour and tasting was the best we've ever experienced - and we have traveled extensively to wine regions in both France and Italy. This one is top tier!
Emily K — Google review
Nice winery, nice tour. The wines are good, but not outstanding in my opinion. The guide was very friendly, and we had a great detailed discussion about the production.
Nikita K — Google review
We visited the winery on September 5th, placed an order, and immediately paid over 1,000 e. The package was supposed to be delivered within a week. Today, September 29th, the winery hasn't responded to sms, and neither the package nor the wine has arrived... scammers?

Amazing place, worth visiting. Also, visit the Castelnuovo above the abbey and walk the streets. One of the most beautiful places around.

I love the georgian live music. Beautiful place very simple, quite and peaceful.
Marek M — Google review
Historic church. Great 5 mile hike loop. Take coins for parking (2 euros per hour). With Casisano winery along the way. Definitely stop in if they are available for a tasting.
Ernie A — Google review
Lovely quiet area and nice olive trees but the whole visit was a disappointment because of the lady in the shop. She was very unpolite and as soon as I stepped inside the small shop she told me the shop will close in 2 minutes. It was 17.54. 🙄 I thought the whole place was open until 18.30. The abbey had a mass so we didn’t enter into it. The smell that came from that small shop was so good so it was a pity that I couldn’t buy anything.
Petra V — Google review
Definitely the most beautiful abbey in Italy! We've come here for at least 20 years. In the beginning there were almost no tourists. Now the way down is paved, paid parking and there even is a shop at the top of the hill..... But still it's the most beautiful abbey of Italy :-) Try to stay for a service when you're here.
Monique K — Google review
Truly beautiful Abbey. The electronic self guide is 7€ but we’ll worth the money. The view from the to of the Abbey is amazing. The shop is lovely too. We’ll worth an hour or two of your time for some valuable peace and tranquillity.
Charlie S — Google review
The Abbey, a jewel of medieval mysticism. It is one of the most beautiful monuments in an ancient Roman style, which also has elements of the French and Lombardy styles. Legend has it that the abbey was founded by Charles the Great in 781. The king and his army stopped here on the way back from Rome as the soldiers were afflicted by an unknown pestilence. An angel appeared to Charlemagne, telling him to make his men drink an infusion with a local herb. The cure worked and the army was saved so the king decided to build the church in gratitude.

Restaurant Self-Service House Civinini is a delightful spot for beachgoers looking to enjoy a casual meal while soaking up the sun. Nestled under the shade of pine trees, this self-service eatery offers an array of fish dishes, burgers, and snacks that cater to all tastes. The nearby beach boasts clear waters and soft sand—ideal for swimming and relaxing.
Great place to spend the day at the beach. Great food and service.
Tatiana G — Google review
The beach is charming, but this review is only about the bar next to the toilets where they sell sandwiches. The selection is very poor and out of the few we chose a tuna spread sandwich. When I opened the sandwich, there were only 2 pathetic pieces of tomato and old lettuce. Where is the tuna? I ask the waiter. The waiter replied very arrogantly: "If you have a problem, go and solve it with the boss." 😅 Not only is the price extremely exorbitant and absolutely not in line with the food they sell, but the waiter is so arrogant? And her face shows that she has no interest in being here for the customers. I have no words and I really do not recommend this establishment. Better take your own snack than spend your money here. 🙃

nice restaurant but we had a problem at the beach. after having a nice lunch in the restaurant we started walking towards the free beach to put our umbrellas, but we were harrassed by the officer responsible for the beach beds. he told us that we cannot walk on the beach, that it was private property! we told him that we were only walking to the free beach (which was only a few meters away), and we were not interested in staying in this so called private beach. but he kept on harrasing us. he followed us and tried to block our way physically. when we told him that beaches are public property and we can walk on the beach, he said we could call the police! this incident ruined our pleasant experience at the restaurant, whose staff was very friendly. DO NOT GO TO THIS BEACH. because the person who harrassed us has the potential to be violent... we will also stop going to this restaurant unless they cut their ties with the beach bed people, or find another way to manage their beach beds...

After many trips in Toscanini country we visit see sight for entire day . You must rent two sun beds for round 20€ for two, you can relax with separate beach , close to free toilet in that complex, there is food as well and of course water :D ... you can teach little ones how to swim because water is very shallow for very long time :)

Abbazia di San Galgano

Mentioned on

Abbey
Sights & Landmarks
Located about 50 minutes south of Sienna, the Abbazia di San Galgano is a stunning 13th-century Gothic church and abbey set amidst picturesque farmland. The monastery features an awe-inspiring roofless church, offering visitors a unique glimpse into its history and architecture. Surrounding alleyways lined with cypress trees lead to this remarkable site. Additionally, the area around Chiusdino has seen recent investment in luxurious estates, making it a popular destination for tourists worldwide.
Abbey of San Galgano is truly a special place. We had the chance to photograph a wedding ceremony here, and it was an experience we’ll never forget. The open-roof ruins, the sound of birds, and pigeons flying through the arches added such a unique and almost mystical atmosphere. We also witnessed sunrise at the abbey, and it was absolutely breathtaking—just as magical as the history that surrounds this place. There’s something truly unforgettable about standing in such an ancient, sacred space, feeling the first light of the day pour in. If you visit, make sure to walk up to the chapel nearby to see the legendary sword in the stone—a fascinating piece of history that adds even more mystery to this already magical place. For couples looking for a wedding venue that is historic, enchanting, and full of soul, San Galgano is like no other. — Peter & Veronika

**A Hauntingly Beautiful Step Back in Time** The **Abbazia di San Galgano** (San Galgano Abbey) is a **mesmerizing** 13th-century Gothic ruin with no roof—just towering stone walls open to the sky. The atmosphere is **magical**, especially at golden hour when sunlight streams through the empty windows. Don’t miss the **legendary Sword in the Stone** in the nearby hermitage (Monte Siepi Chapel)—it’s said to be the real-life inspiration for King Arthur’s tale! **Why it’s worth visiting:** ✔ **Photography paradise**: The skeletal arches and grassy floor make for stunning, otherworldly photos. ✔ **Peaceful vibe**: Far from crowds, ideal for quiet reflection or a picnic. ✔ **Rich history**: Free info plaques explain the abbey’s rise and fall (or bring a guidebook for deeper context). **Tips:** - Wear **sturdy shoes**—the ground is uneven. - Pair your visit with the nearby **Chiusdino village** for lunch or a wine tasting. - Visit **early morning or late afternoon** to avoid tour groups. **A must-see** for history buffs, romantics, and anyone who loves evocative ruins. Like stepping into a medieval fairy tale.

I had the pleasure of photographing a wedding at San Galgano Abbey, and it was absolutely magical. The atmosphere of the roofless abbey, with its dramatic architecture and open sky, creates an unforgettable setting for a wedding ceremony. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a breathtaking venue in Tuscany.

The entrance fee feels steep for a ruin with very little information provided… but it’s still 100% worth the visit! ⛪✨ Standing inside this roofless church, in the middle of nowhere, is an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere is truly unique. The surrounding landscape is beautiful, and the history of the site is absolutely fascinating 🌿📜 Take your time to explore, soak it all in, and maybe enjoy a picnic in the shade of the centuries-old walls of this mysterious and hauntingly beautiful place 🧺🧱

Open air 13th Century Abbey just outside of Siena. If this is something you’re into and enjoy – very much worth a visit. Looks spectacular from the outside and magical from the inside. Certainly unique. If you are not into architecture, historical buildings or church history, this is probably not for you. There is little explanation of the place once you’re there, so you need to ideally already be a fan or interested. Also visit the Chapel on the hill whilst you're in the area

There was an art exhibit when we were there which were really great to take photos. We had leave early because of a funeral.

Speechless spiritual place, knowing this place from Andrei Tarkovsky’s ‘Nostalgia’, as a metaphor of the protagonist’s memory and religious experience. No photos or documentaries can compare to being here personally, even if it might be an arduous trip for visitors without a car…

Cappella di San Galgano a Montesiepi is a fascinating shrine located in the Tuscan countryside, dedicated to the 12th-century knight and saint, Galgano Guidotti. The chapel houses his sword, displayed as a holy relic in the stone. Adjacent to the renowned Abbey of San Galgano, this site offers visitors an affordable entry fee and picturesque surroundings for relaxation.
Even if you don't manage to get the sword out of the stone, you can just rest in peace in the chapel under a very interesting ceiling. Very quiet place. In front of the chapel there is a small shop with local products.

**A Mystical Gem with the Legendary Sword in the Stone** Tucked into the Tuscan hills near the famous **Abbazia di San Galgano**, this **12th-century hermitage chapel** is a hidden treasure. The **rotunda design** and warm stone walls create an intimate, almost mystical atmosphere—but the real draw is the **"Sword in the Stone"** embedded in the floor. Legend claims it was plunged there by the knight **Galgano Guidotti** in 1180 as a symbol of renouncing war (yes, likely inspiring King Arthur’s tale!). **Highlights:** ✔ **The Sword**: Protected by glass but still awe-inspiring. Lean close to see the hilt and "bloodstains" in the rock. ✔ **Frescoes**: The dome features striking **Byzantine-style paintings** of angels and Galgano’s life. ✔ **Serenity**: Far quieter than the abbey ruins below—perfect for contemplation.

If you are visiting the Abbey, certainly go and see the Chapel. It’s on top of a hill with a wonderful view over the Tuscan countryside. Has free entry – with lots of things to look at. It’s small so only takes 10 mins to look round. Has a small shop to the side and people working there who seem proud of the place. Not worth coming specially, but take a look if in the area. Also free entry.

A nice peaceful place to visit. There is a large free parking lot which is a 10 min walk away. From the Abbey there is a steep amd rocky trail leading up to the church (shorter and more scenic than walking back around via the road) where you can enter for free and see the sword in the rock. From there you can complete the loop on the road back to the parking lot.

A very atmospheric place. We arrived around 11:00 on Saturday - there were not so many people. The parking nearby is gigantic, so shouldn’t be an issue even when it’s busy.

This is a lovely visit. How often do you get to see the sword in the stone? We had a lot of fun here and it was well worth going out of the way to see this.

Acqua Village Follonica is a Hawaiian-themed water park featuring twisting water slides, outdoor pools, and a variety of attractions. The park is well-maintained and organized, with ample parking and seating areas. Visitors can enjoy a range of pools and slides suitable for both adults and children. The park offers clean facilities, short queues, and plenty of shaded areas. Additionally, the on-site food options exceed expectations. Overall, it's a great place to spend the day with family or friends.
Beautiful acqua park for everyone. Free zone for sunbathing with umbrellas near pool, with DJ music on the floor side of pool. There are bar and restaurant take away in zone, dressing room near toilet and clean toilet.
NNN G — Google review
We visited the village on the opening day. The place was very crowded, so the wait for most of the waterslides was quite long, especially since there are only a couple of slides. Despite the crowds, however, the place was clean. Bear in mind that everything from lockers to showers costs extra. Overall, not bad for Follonica standards, but also nothing extraordinary. I highly recommend buying tickets online.
Maciej W — Google review
A cracking day out at Follonica. There were plenty of spaces to setup our camp in the shade - lots more options further into the park if you don’t find a good one by the entrance like we did. Lots of options for kids and adults of all ages to enjoy. It’s the not the most extensive in terms of number of different slides, but there was plenty to keep us busy for about 5 hours on a hot day. The flying act on a water jet pack thing was pretty cool, but we all wanted to have a go not just watch!
Michael C — Google review
Great place for all the family, recommend to arrive when it open to have place to seat. It is not very big park but you can spend half a day. The food is great and not so expensive.

I have visited plenty of water parks all over the world, from the huge US-parks to others in Australia. This small one was so far the best, no kidding. Very clean, great value for the money, now in early September on a Tuesday ZERO waiting team, funny rides. Not mega mega fancy, but really thrilling.
P.S. — Google review
We arrived on a Monday by 10am. Not busy at all. We didn't buy tickets online before and it was fine. Lots of covered parking. Fun staff on stilts welcoming everyone. Very clean and nice Hawaii design. Easy to navigate as not overly large and fine to let our 11 and 13 year olds roam. All life guards and staff spoke helpful English and were very welcoming and friendly. Parking 4 euro Umbrella lockers 4 euro with free chairs. Sunloungers 4 euro. We just got two as kids were mostly off having a blast. Three groups of larger slides were fun with lots of options. No queues to speak of. Can ride with rings or without. Not to scary for adults either! We liked the Kamikazee the best. Park is most suited to pre teens down to toddlers with their own dedicated area. Food options were fine with lots of usual variety. A very nice way spend a fun filled day.

My son simply loved it here. There is something for all ages and you cannot not have fun.

Visited the aqua village on a Monday in June. Not too crowded. Children enjoyed it. Park is nice and clean. You can buy food inside the village but it is quite expensive. We brought our own food. Sun shaded parking for 3€. Free parking on the other side of the street.

Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Mura di Monteriggioni - Camminamento Nord offers a delightful glimpse into medieval history. This charming village is encircled by a 500-meter-long wall, making it one of the smallest yet most picturesque towns you'll encounter. As you stroll along its ancient walkways, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape dotted with vineyards and rolling hills.
Very beautiful, cute, small town with a nice wall around their little city. Lots of wine fields and amazing lookouts. you Can take many memorable photos xxxx
Lili 2 — Google review
I think it'd be a shame to come to Monteriggioni and not climb on the walkway of the old walls. I believe we paid Euro 6 or 7 each, and that gave us access to the small but well-documented museum (it has a lot of the history of the place as well the reconstruction of some of the structures and the armors). If I remember well it has write ups both in English and Italian. Plus, you get to walk on the 2 sections of walkways. Some of the low-score reviews for the walls point to the fact that one walkway was closed, but even if only one was accessible it would have been worth it to me. The views of the countryside and of the town, the atmosphere, the architectural details of the walls....beautiful.
Valerio V — Google review
Lovely quiet town atop a small hill. Beautiful scenery with rolling hills around. Highly recommend the checking out the small museum as it comes with the fee to walk the walls. Just enough information to feel like you learned a bit without miles of text. Gelato always hits the spot. Paid and free parking just below the hill, reasonably priced at 2 euro for 90 minutes or so. A must see town!

Scam! You have to be lucky to visit the top of the wall. Mostly on Monday (whole day) and Friday (in the morning) IN THEORY. We went there on a Friday at 11am and it was already closed. There are many more beautiful places with even better view in the toscana area than Monteriggioni.

This cute little village stole my heart. With an around 500 meters long wall around it it’s probably the smallest village I’ve ever seen. But we found everything we were looking for there. The scenery around the village is absolutely beautiful! You can climb up the wall and have a great view around. When we were there there was a little market with handmade things were we found a beautiful ring - which I am wearing everyday since today (at least for 3 years now). I absolutely recommend to stop here for a while!

Delicious food. A very family friendly environment with a clean minimalist style restaurant, and a numerous menu options for a variety of tastes. We loved the Chianti the whites were delicious too. I also took home a bottle of their dessert wine which was fantastic. Visit the castle on the hill if you get a chance as well.

Everything was perfect, we loved our experience here! My mother and I took the colorino tour. The tour of the vineyard and the winery were really interesting, the guide was very knowledgeable and passionate. Everything we tasted was great. I personally loved the younger red and white wine, while my mother preferred the old red, everything is great and it's just a matter of taste. We both loved the dessert wine and the cantuccini. We would love to come back, spend more time here (we had to leave in a hurry to catch the bus) and share this experience with other loved ones! Thank you for your passion and care!
Joyce M — Google review
We visited the winery today and were not too impressed. We didn’t have a reservation and we felt lucky they were able to accommodate us inside for the 15€ wine tasting, not really the case. We got a very rushed description of the wines we could choose from (you can pick 3) without any written description, menu or similar. The wine servings were quite generous and all 3 wines were fairly good (least favorite was the rosé). We didn’t get an appetizer of any kind with the wine. They were preparing the room for an event and we felt quite rushed, whole thing lasted probably around 30 minutes. In summary, maybe it would have been better for them to tell us they could not take us without a reservation.

La Cerreta Terme is a unique rural farmstay nestled in the midst of nature, offering old-world accommodations, an organic restaurant, and a hot spring spa. Visitors can enjoy the silence, hot water pools of varying temperatures, and greenery while being pampered by the professional and friendly staff.
I only went for the terme which was fabulous. There is a sauna a steam room and thermal waters you can relax in. You are in the midst of beautiful countryside. They produce their own wine which is extraordinary.
Adrian S — Google review
I’ve visited only the baths multiple times over several years and while the setting and facilities are wonderful, it can be difficult to enjoy when busy, because the majority of visitors seem to ignore the rules about not leaving personal items on deck chairs and being quiet, and none of the staff seem to enforce it(hence the three stars). As another reviewer mentioned already, the same goes with the changing rooms and visitors’ personal items occupying all of the benches making them inaccessible to anyone else who didn’t get there first. With access to lockers this is clearly unnecessary and inconsiderate towards fellow visitors.
IAF L — Google review
The most beautiful place to relax and unwind. It's not crowded, so you won’t be bumping into others in the pool. Perfect for a romantic getaway. You need to book your spot in advance, and swimming caps, towels, and slippers are required. If you don’t have them, you can purchase them on site. You can also buy local wine or jams at the reception. Excellent! :)
Dominika S — Google review
Just there for light lunch and 1/2 terme dip. Delicious food (though a little spendy) in a beautiful space, baths are nicely set in nature but a bit full (especially with couples), upper inside pool is warmest though not hot. Changing rooms are sweltering. Recommendation: should assign larger lockers to external patrons because they have more with them than the inn guests.

Museo Etrusco Mario Guarnacci

Specialty Museums
The Etruscan Museum "Mario Guarnacci" has a rich history, dating back to 1761 when Mario Guarnacci donated his archaeological collection to the city of Volterra. This generous donation included a vast library and unique works from various centuries. The museum is home to the famous Ombra della Sera sculpture and also houses the Volterra Picture Gallery with masterpieces like Rosso Fiorentino's Deposition.
Since I knew next to nothing about this pre-Roman civilization and was intrigued, the museum was the main attraction I wanted to see in Volterra. However, we almost passed it by as it looked so unimposing on the outside and there didn't seem to be anywhere to park nearby. In fact, there is some parking just 50 yards down the road, with a scenic view. Inside, the museum is very modern and well organized. The displays are beautiful and have more interpretive material than we had seen in some other museums. I highly recommend visiting.
Mike B — Google review
We went there on the Notte Bianca (7/19/2025) when all the museum in the city is free after 21:00. We were the one of the first into the museum when it opened at 21:00 and we’re the only ones on the second floor where the famous sculptures are. Really cool experience to be able to explore a museum at night with so little people and being able to see the artifacts up close without being rushed by other tourists. Really recommend going on a Notte Bianca.
Derrick H — Google review
For lovers of Etruscan history, and for those just learning about the importance of the Etruscans, this museum is superb. From funerary uns, to bronze sculptures, to amazing household artifacts, this museum has it all. We spent over 2 hours inside and loved every minute. Plus, a huge bonus for us were the several beautiful (but covered) mosaic floors! Such a great museum!
Dax P — Google review
Amazing museum. Amidst all the Roman ruins in Italy, the Etruscans often get overlooked. This museum has a ton of artifacts from the Etruscans -- older than the Roman empire and incredibly well preserved. The signage is mostly bilingual. Where it's only available in Italian, staff were willing to give us an explanation in English.
Ari E — Google review
We'd read the reviews and were conflicted. Is this another old museum? NO. This is THE presentation of Etruscan life. The museum has undergone an amazing upgrade thanks to the EU. Ok, there are a couple of rooms with exhibits that are dated. But the rest are great. Seems a major project has occurred in 2025. Information is presented in Italian and English. The new displays are classy. We knew nothing about Etruscan culture. Now we know a bit more. Worth a visit for sure
Robert A — Google review
An intriguing museum that was the surprise highlight of our visit to Volterra! Just visible on a distant hilltop, Volterra was pointed out to us by a local winery owner as a city we needed to visit because of its place in Tuscan history and its unique cultural artifacts - the burial urns of the Etruscans and its Roman theater. We didn't know much more than that, but we knew enough to trust when someone recommends something to us with nothing to gain for themselves, and we couldn't be happier we followed that instinct. This is one of those amazing museums that makes you want to continue to learn more even after you leave!
Daniel P — Google review
This Museum contains a beautiful collection of sarcophagi and other Etruscan tools. Very interesting, and definitely worth a visit. Having an elevator, it is accessible and comfortable, too. Still, the museum lacks modernity: there is no introduction to the Etruscans, and being unprepared it takes a while to understand what the exhibition is all about. Doesn‘t matter, maybe, when there are plenty of guards, as in this museum. You could simply ask, couldn‘t you? Unfortunately, the guards I talked to also couldn‘t explain the Etruscans, too. Thus, 3 stars. But hey, just a video intro and a little bit of tutoring and us visitors would all be set, wouldn‘t we?
Jan B — Google review
This museum is a must see if you’re in Volterra, as it shines a bright light on the Etruscan (pre-Roman) civilisation. The collection is somewhat uneven - there are some sections which look as if they’re still awaiting reorganisation and improved explanatory notices, and there are more funerary urns than most people need, but the most important sections are well laid out and explained, and include some fascinating and beautiful items, such as the very extended figure of a young man, and even some of the funerary urns! Highly recommended.

(Translated by Google) Piazza dei Priori, with its cluster of noble palaces, is evidence of Volterra's rich medieval heritage. It is dominated by the towering Palazzo dei Priori (1208), the oldest town hall in Tuscany, and is said to have been modeled after Florence's Palazzo Vecchio. Although the clock tower and battlements were later remodeled, the building looks like a typical Tuscan town hall. Weather permitting, it's worth climbing to the top of the bell tower for a panoramic view of the city. Across the square stands the 13th-century Palazzo Pretorio, with its battlemented Torre del Porcellino (Little Pig Tower), so named for its decorative relief of a wild boar.

The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, also known as the Cathedral of Volterra, is a stunning example of Romanesque and Baroque architecture. Constructed over six centuries from the 12th to the 18th century, this cathedral boasts a simple yet elegant facade and an interior adorned with beautifully painted coffered ceilings and numerous works of art.
Hidden in a quiet corner of Volterra, and rebuilt after the earthquake of 1117 that destroyed most of the town. Amongst the various artistic masterpieces kept inside the Cathedral, the five polychrome sculptures carved out of wood portraying the “Deposition of Christ from the Cross” certainly stand out. Worth a visit.
Jo G — Google review
My wife and I enjoyed visiting the cathedral. Current cost is 7EUR/person and includes a great audio guide with approximately 15 stations. Each station on the audio guide provides about two minutes of information - total audio guide is 34 minutes long. The audio guide is outstanding - you must download it to your smart phone after scanning a QR code given to you after purchasing a ticket. The audio guide is as good, if not better, than several walking tour guides we have taken for substantially more cost. The ticket to cathedral offers each person a 2EUR discount to visit Palazzo Viti (5EUR instead of 7EUR). The cathedral is not a component of the Volterra Card. Again, great audio guide that brings to life the many great paintings and sculptures within the cathedral.

Church is nice outside…..but you have to pay to enter a church….and this is not acceptable in Italy
Manucsn — Google review
Not worth going inside at a high price of 16 euro per adult. I would suggest walking past it and going to the edge of the city where you can get some amazing views of the areas surrounding Volterra and it will cost you nothing. Since the city is not too large you can go see it, but in my opinion it's not a must-see at all.

Pay 7 euro and enter to the cathedral church!!! I entered and is beautiful. Now it's run by a private association. Iis it good to use Church for income? I don't know... Interesting. 🤣😂. Whoever built this Church had never thought of this way 🤣😂. But at least they should allow if anyone asks for a sec for prayers. Even if they are tricky. Show them that the Church never asks you money to pray. I could see that someone came and asked them 2 minutes for prayers. Unfortunately they couldn't. Because no money no pray. I had 7 euro so I could pray and visit. I have visited many churches in Italy, but this was strange.🤭. Do really the bishop knows about it that his cathedral entrance is under ticket only?

Discovered in the 1950s, this large Imperial period theater is one of the best-preserved examples in Italy. The semi-circular seating was built directly into the hill, with radial stairways still visible today. The orchestra area at the foot of the benches once hosted high-ranking spectators.
Impressive ruins, hard to believe they were built over 2,000 years ago. Not much to walk around but a good view of all there is, with some information too. Included in the Volterra card or 10€ entry

Fascinating historical amphitheatre. Used as a medieaval rubbish tip and then buried 100 metres beneath a football field.

It wasnt open due to siesta, us and a lot of other tourists would just go around to the front and take pictures. It was fine seeing it just from the front, i wouldnt have been happy to have paid to go in. If it would be free it would be better

A well preserved ruins of the past, now modernly converted to a concert and theatre stage. Beautiful and scenic route for a walk to enjoy the mediaeval city.

The Roman Theatre in Volterra is a truly impressive spot to visit. Even without knowing much about history, you can feel the atmosphere of the place when standing among the ruins and looking at the old stone seats and stage area. The setting is quiet, scenic, and gives you a sense of stepping back in time. It’s one of those places where you can slow down, take in the view, and imagine what life here was like centuries ago. Definitely a highlight when exploring Volterra and worth including in your visit.

Amazing town , this is my 3rd time back and loving it. So underrated and is free of Insta crowds. Refreshing and cute , best of hand made Etruscan pieces and alabaster.
Cb B — Google review
€23 to see some ruins is a joke. You can have a better view from the wall above it and that view is free of charge. I have recently visited an ancient Greek amphitheatre in Taormina for €14. That is a much better preserved site for less.
Chris K — Google review
Amazing to see! Don’t buy a ticket from the top you can see as much or even more then if you would buy a ticket. It’s also quite hot to be walking down there.

A wonderful family who provide an amazing wine tour experience in Tuscany! Fantastic wine. Fantastic views. An absolutely amazing experience! We were visiting Italy from the USA for two weeks and this was an absolute highlight of our trip!

We booked a wine tasting in May of 2025 and had the best experience. The owner gave us a very warm welcome, the wine is excellent and the olive oil fantastic. Very highly recommend a visit.
Maurits D — Google review
A perfect afternoon. We met Mauro, the owner on entry to the winery. We were then welcomed by Emanuela who walked us through a tasting of 7 wines, plus desert wine and grappa. Plentiful food throughout.
Jessica B — Google review
We are so pleased that we chose this vineyard for our first taste of Tuscan wines. We were hosted by Emanuela who was absolutely delightful. Her passion for her family business really shines through. We had a fantastic experience- the wines are very very good and the accompanying food was delicious! It’s definitely worth a visit.

This winery is incredible. First of all our booking for 10 was very easy to book in via email and they understood our requirements. We arrived and they took us on a tour of the winery and olive oils, this was very interesting especially seeing the barrels that were over 100 years old! Then the wine tasting was very interesting and there was a great selection to try. What made it my favourite was the food that was freshly made in the kitchen throughout. We had bread with the olive oil from the garden, then panzanella salad, fresh vegetable omelette, salami and prosciutto then cake for dessert! So much food that complemented the wine tastings! Thank you so much for a spectacular wine tour and tasting! Couldn’t recommend this family led winery more.
Emma W — Google review
We had the loveliest wine tasting in the garden. The wines were all really good. And the entire family is welcoming. Cannot recommend this winery enough!
Tiffany W — Google review
We got the best experience visiting Tamburini Emanuela. The service from both the owner and the young lady was outstanding. If we ever come back in the Tuscan area, we will definitely visit again. Highly recommend if you’re in the area, and are looking for a wine tasting and a relaxed time!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We stay in a ressort and there we tried some Chianti with the dinner. Our favorit became THEBOSS from TAMBURINI. So we decided to just pop into the fattoria to buy some. We were very friendly welcomed and were offered bruscette and to try other wines. We found a second favorit and also the olive oil is to our taste. At TAMBURINI the owners are giving you the feeling that you are welcome and not just another customer.

It was a great experience! My gym buddy and I had a blast and mastered all the trails. The only problem was that the hooks sometimes got entangled, and the mounting of the pulley was complicated and in some places very uncomfortable. Apart from that, the routes are very beautiful and exciting, perfect for adventurous and determined people like us!

Great fun for both kids (2 and 4 years) and yet there were many more tracks of higher difficulty we could not even access. Highly recommended!

SO great! Super fun tree climbing activity for both adults and children. Our girls of 4 and 6 participated in the children courses without any difficulties - and they loved it. Safety is very important to these people and you get a proper instruction before you start. Staff keeps circulating the area ready to assist you if you need help. Small restaurant near by for water and ice cream. We love it!

Fantastic park for young kids. Our 3 year old loved visiting. There is plenty of room for picnics and the life size dinosaurs are great for young ones. We would recommend it to anyone.

Very terrible parc. Please don’t spend your money on this.. we drove 1 hour for an abandoned parc and the attractions are not operatable . There is nothing to see or do.. very disappointed!
Bas S — Google review
Fun stop for dino fans – great picnic spot too We visited with our three kids and had a surprisingly fun time. The dinosaur trail is set in a large outdoor area, and although some of the models are clearly worn and the park could use a bit of renovation, the overall experience was still enjoyable. There’s a small amusement area next to the dino trail with a few rides, and a fantastic covered picnic spot just before entering the park – perfect for enjoying your packed lunch. We created a dinosaur quiz with Chat Gpt on the spot, which made it extra fun, and our kids insisted on seeing every single dino. If your children love dinosaurs, this is a fun and affordable stop – just go with the right expectations.

Family run business. A lovely installation. Very interesting, a lot of love for details, multilingual explanations via QR Code, perfect for a stroll a small entertainment park for small children as well and very clean toilets. The owner as far as we understood startet the in 1977, he is a former Clown and followed his passion. I am very impressed how much love and craftsmanship you see in the park. Some installations might have a crack due to weather, but our Zoo dinosaurs in a million Citizen City are not as nice as these ones and not as informative. Strongly recommend

The Leonardo da Vinci Museum, also known as Museo Leonardiano di Vinci, is a popular destination attracting around 130,000 visitors annually. It houses valuable documentation on Leonardo and his scientific knowledge during the Renaissance. The museum is located in Palazzina Uzielli and Conti Guidi Castle, offering exhibitions of Leonardo's ingenious projects such as construction and textile machinery. Visitors can explore animated digital reconstructions of his inventions.
Leonardo da Vinci’s birthplace is just a 5-minute drive away, and I visited it together with the museum. It turned out to be an even more wonderful place than I had imagined. The exhibits showcasing da Vinci’s cross-disciplinary inventions were all creatively designed and truly exciting. I thought I already knew quite a bit about his inventions, but seeing so many of them brought to life and in motion right in front of me was a completely different experience. The museum is divided into two buildings, and even with a thorough visit, it takes about two hours. On the ground floor of one building, there’s a hands-on area where children can learn through experience. Also, walking through the town that includes these two buildings was delightful. There were monuments, art paintings, and souvenir shops scattered throughout, all showing deep respect for da Vinci. I truly hope more people will come and enjoy this place!
Osamu F — Google review
Even if you are not a fan I think it is a must to visit Vinci village if you are traveling in Tuscany. The museum really didn’t influence me that much, I am not into mechanics, but I was shocked by what wonderful inventions he made at that time, there are some replicas of his paintings with explanation. But what I most was effected by was his house where Leonardo lived with his grandfather until he left when he was 17 years old, you can also visit the church where he was baptized. It was an incredible experience to look out the window Leonardo was looking out of. I recommend buying tickets from an official website of this museum, spend a little time and you’ll figure it out there. We bought the tickets for the first session at 10.30 I think and there was no one when we came so no lines. After little after tourist groups started arriving, so it became a little more crowded. If I were you I would go there first thing in the morning.
Tamila R — Google review
Really coolnto walk around where he had lived and worked. There are many models, exhibits, all with explanations (Italaian/English). Try the tower!! Note: 122 steps up, 122 steps down. There are corners to allow faster folk to pass you safely. The view from the top is worth it.
Ian F — Google review
The museum was okey. I would only recommend visiting the museum and going all the way up for the great views. Highly recommend avoiding the house visit and "paintings" as they are all copies and not even the good ones. You need to drive up to the house which is nice in the outside but literally 3 rooms, one with a big fireplace, 1 with a big projector and 1 with stands with information. Not worth it as you can see anything for the days or get an idea of HOW he lived or what his house looked like inside. Dont waste your money. HIGHLY RECOMMEND eating at Caffè del Castello as they have great pasta dishes which change daily. Super recommend if you like good food. Staff were great.
Efb — Google review
Great place to view the detailed models of Leonardo’s inventions and the drawings of the researches of the human body. A must see when visiting Tuscany.

Loved the experience here. What a fascinating man- so many interests. The view from up tops was very cool as well
Randy H — Google review
We went out of our way to see this museum and were very glad we did. The drive up to Vinci was beautiful and fun. The small village the museum is in is adorable with the most amazing views. The museum itself focuses on di Vinci’s engineering invention. The displays were fascinating but it’s a very very small museum. I wish there had been more.

The Birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci is a house museum with multimedia exhibits dedicated to the famous inventor. The castle, known as Castello della Nave, is located in the town center and features medieval art such as Madonna col bambino by Giovanni Della Robbia. Visitors can explore the museum and a medieval church displaying Leonardo's engineering inventions. Additionally, there are three rooms showcasing the history of the house and a multimedia room with a hologram narrating Leonardo's biography.
Nice place with beautiful small walk around the olive trees. The ticket costs 4 euros, but if you buy it together with the museum in Vinci village it will cost you all 13 euros.

4/5 only because dogs are not allowed in the museum and we were traveling with our dog. The trail from Vinci to the house is a very nice walk.
Andrejka C — Google review
The place is beautiful (I mean, it's the classic tuscany landscape, so...), but you can only see a bit of the house and the expo doesn't add too much to the experience, specially if you've seen the other museums, even so, I think it's valid to go take a look, since you're already in the city :) Unfortunatelly it was too hot for me to take the trail, but I've been told it's a nice one!
Isabella C — Google review
It is so coolnto walk where he might have walked as a child, to see his world from that age. Don't expect any independence material about him however. There are a few high-level displays only. No gift store. The nearest food/drink (no alcohol) is the food truck in the parking lot.
Ian F — Google review
It is winter. No one was there. We had the entire house to ourselves. It is small and mighty. The ticket includes a tour of the museum/medieval church where his engineering inventions are on display. I was enchanted. At his birth house (a short drive up the hill), the nice attendant took us to the viewing room and showed us a video in English that taught us more about this master engineer, painter, and thinker. He was born an illegitimate child to a servant woman and a father who would never acknowledge him. His grandfather recorded his birth, and it was his uncle who left him what land was rightfully his. Alot of who Leonardo became was inspired by growing up in this enchanted hill town outside of Florence. Nature played a huge part. I would go back in summer when more places in the village of Vinci are open.
Amber M — Google review
Very cool place for history buffs. Original house still standing. Wow! You'll need a car to get to the house and museum. Please ask about ticket price, I went with a tour that handled everything. Do recommend traveling with an organized group. You meet so many wonderful people. BTW. At the bottom of the little hill, before the the house, is a vendor with really yummy cookie/chip for sale.

I have been here several times. The museum itself has a lot of nice information and provides a good understand of the early life of Leonardo. I appreciate more so the grounds and the olive orchards surrounding the home. It is really a nice atmosphere to hang around in for awhile.

Museo Piaggio, located in Pontedera and inaugurated in 2000, is situated within the factory that gave birth to the iconic Vespa. The museum boasts a collection of over 250 pieces, including various Vespas, as well as historical railway and aeronautical artifacts from the early 20th century. Additionally, it showcases motorcycles from renowned Italian brands such as Aprilia, Gilera, and Moto Guzzi.
An amazing place!! The exhibits are really well placed and there are heaps of them. It is a super fun place to be. Like ourselves, everyone was smiling. There is also the history of Piaggio which was really interesting to learn about as I was totally unaware of all the things the business was involved with over the decades. A great place to take the kids or the grandparents. This is up there with the best museums we have been to. It would be worth a Eur10 ticket, but they were only taking donations.

One of the nicest museums related to motorbikes I have ever been to. So much to see, friendly staff, fantastic texts to read, the collection is just amazing, great light for photos etc. One can truly see that Vespa owners know what they are doing and the success of the brand is no wonder. Bravo and thank you.

If you are a scooter or motorbike enthusiast this is the place for you! So much to see, so much info and such knowledgeable staff. It was amazing to see how Piaggo/Vespa developed. To see how the scooter has changed over the years, to see rare things. They also have a motorbike collection too with bikes ridden by greats such as Rossi. Wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Free entry but please give a reasonable donation to keep such a wonderful museum going.
Zoe B — Google review
The most impressive free museum I have ever visited. It offers a rich and broad representation of the company's history and exposes visitors to the people behind the scenes of Vespa's success. Beyond that, I also learned a lot of new things, such as the subsidiaries I had no idea existed and the impressive record of competition victories. The museum offers an audio guide (available in several languages, we used English) that accompanies the exhibits, and each section has its own part that can be accessed via a QR code. Fascinating and highly recommended.

The Sanctuary of Montenero, also known as the Sanctuary of Lady of Grace, is a religious complex located on a hill in Livorno. It was built in the 18th century and is a popular pilgrimage destination due to its revered Madonna image. The sanctuary features an impressive church with late Tuscan Baroque architecture and an altar designed by Giovanni Baratta and Giovanni Antonio Cybei.
A must see when you get to Livorno. A peaceful sanctuary and it builds on the faith. Beautiful and splendour in every way.

Most impressive location with great view and many tokens of Catholic devotion. The church is located on top of a hill with a great view and inside you find a huge collection (over 12.000!) of tokens. Even if the religious part is not your thing, it's still worth a visit for the great view and the short trip by cableway.

this is a beautiful monastery located in the hilltops above Livorno. It’s a short bus ride make sure the bus that you take is clearly marked Montenero because initially I took the one that went to the beach and so I had to take the different bus and I lost a half hour of time but no big deal still totally worth it. it’s about 45 minutes from the train station in Livorno. the views are beautiful especially on a clear day. And it has a electrically powered cable car system really it’s a funicular that continuously runs probably until about six PM and so make sure you check the timetables and don’t forget to validate your tickets on all the buses

Very moved by as well as interested in the folk art of the ex voto in the sanctuary - and the pharmacy selling bio products (tisanes, sweets, shampoo etc) is very good. Definitely worth a visit - especially if you combine it with a gastronomic pilgrimage to the fabulous Osteria fonte del penitente nearby (not the ones in the square in front of the sanctuary which are really grim)

Our second visit: the buildings themselves (an old monastery I believe) are worth the visit alone! Wonderful exhibitions (dinosaurs at the moment) on top of the regular sections. Also a pretty impressive aquarium, but the star of the show is the cetacean section housed in a remarkable long gallery. Extremely kid-friendly. This place should be on everyone’s list if visiting central Tuscany.

We visited the Natural History Museum on a sudden impulse, and it turned out to be a great idea. The collection is wonderfully rich and beautiful, and I especially enjoyed the exhibition on prehistoric creatures. The building itself, a former Carthusian monastery, is stunning, and together with the exhibition it made the visit unforgettable. There is convenient parking lined with olive trees, and you can refill your water bottle with cold water for free. It’s worth planning even a full-day trip here. Some areas were temporarily closed, and in the aquarium a few large fish looked rather sad in relatively small spaces. But apart from that, it was an excellent experience and absolutely worth visiting!

The most exciting and biggest museum in the area, miles and miles of wonderful stuffed animals in dynamic poses, antique bones of all sorts, tropical dioramas, moving dinosaurs, live fishes, neanderthal reconstructions, a geology and flora garden, and such an antique wonderful environment!!!! Definitively impressive!! Next door you can also visit the original monastery in which the museum is located. You need to come early because the parking lot gets very crowded. You can bring your food and eat add the picnic area next to the parking lot.

This is the best museum I have ever been to. It's jam packed full with displays and endless information to take in. Only downside was lack of air conditioning throughout and really wished there was a cafe for a break and refreshments.

Really a great collection! Very impressive whale sceletons, a good scientific collection of animals and several dinosaurs. The Aquariums are great, too! Worth a trip and not expensive. Higly recommended

I wasn't sure exactly what to expect as we drove up to what looked like an almost hidden building but what we found inside blew our minds. This museum is more than anything I could have dreamed up!
