National Trust - Blickling Estate

Heritage building
The National Trust - Blickling Estate is a grand 17th-century stately home adorned with intricate painted ceilings and surrounded by remarkable ornamental gardens. Spanning approximately 4,600 acres, the estate offers some of Norfolk's finest woodland walks, featuring forests, parks, and farmland. Visitors can explore the grounds and take in the serene lake while admiring the renowned bluebells.
Our visit was only to the house and we very much enjoyed our time there. Blickling comes as a bit of a surprise as one heads north from Aylsham, as there is little to broadcast its presence. One looks to the right, and suddenly there it is, beautifully framed by its massive, manicured hedges and impressive side buildings. Much of its current design dates from the early 1600s when it replaced the home of Anne Boleyn’s birth (and apparently her ghost still returns to visit each year on the anniversary of her execution). Inside, the house is filled with many magnificent portraits, with the baleful one-eyed glare of Field Marshall Sir Robert Rich greeting the visitor just inside the front door. On the ground floor the dining room, with its massive mantlepiece, is magnificent, and one can learn about the restoration of beautifully painted Victorian ceiling in the Brown Drawing room. Upstairs, the late 18th Century yellow and black Print Room is fascinating, but it is the plaster ceilings in the Long Gallery, South Drawing Room and the tapestry-decorated Upper Ante Room that are truly spectacular. Be sure to look up, as well as learn how the huge plaster pendant in the latter room has recently been preserved (Blickling has been at the forefront of pioneering new conservation methods). Finished with the house and looking for something else? There is the great little Royal Air Force Oulton Museum onsite, which shows how this stately old home supported local World War 2 efforts. Practical info: The Blickling car park is a good size, with overflow parking to the northwest. Two cafés are in close proximity to the house, and The Bucks Arms, with its pub, restaurant, and accommodation is located just off the car park. One may also take home a taste of Blicking, as some Walled Garden produce is available at a donation station by the welcome office. Allow 2-2.5 hours to visit the house, and add another 30-45 minutes for the RAF museum.

A beautiful building with interesting architecture. A lake with lots of wildlife. Kingfishers, otters, ducks, swans etc. Lovely colourful gardens, with fountains. Many walks through gardens and wooded areas. Plants can be bought at the shop, aswell as "National trust" hats & clothes. (Near car park). A book shop is also in the main building. There are facilities for food and drink. Public toilets and also seating areas around the grounds. Disabled access to most places. A car park is nearby and a pub. It's a great place to visit for adults and children.
Chris — Google review
We were fortunate to visit on a sunny day, which made the experience all the more enjoyable. The National Trust staff were helpful and welcoming throughout. The craftsmanship of the woodwork inside the house was truly impressive and beautifully preserved. The garden was equally delightful, meticulously maintained and a pleasure to explore. A memorable visit that reflects the care and dedication of everyone involved.
Ishan M — Google review
We visited whilst in holiday in Norfolk. The house was stunning, beautifully furnished. The gardens were also stunning. There was a walk around the lake which we didn't have time for but looked like it would be divine. The kids enjoyed the RAF museum and the huge bookshop. The cafe was great and they also had a really good summer activities for the holidays.
Mandy H — Google review
This must be one of the top NT properties Interesting house and gardens. Park walks recommended. We did the multi use trail all around the estate around 4 miles. Then after food the lake walk around 2 miles. Both excellent. The cafe was good. House volunteers excellent
John B — Google review
Beautiful house and estate, very well maintained both inside and out. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable and on hand to talk about the history. It would definitely be worth visiting the gardens in the spring and summer.
Andrew L — Google review
Most famous as the place where Anne Boleyn spent time while growing up and is rumoured (but not proven) to have been born here. The estate was gifted to the National Trust in 1940 by the last owner, having gone through a number of hands one of which was John Hobart the 2nd Earl of Buckingham who was ambassador to Russia in Catherine the Greats time, who decorated parts of the hall in honour of this. The hall has the largest collection of books in any National Trust property so is deemed a treasure house. Having visited today all rooms open was a fabulous site to see. Some magnificent decoration of the ornate ceilings. Most definitely worth a visit. It’s a definite treasure. There is also the garden and extensive grounds for walks to while away the hours.
Lynn M — Google review
Lovely national trust, we were able to go round the house and lots of volunteers able to provide information. We were lucky enough to be there on a day they were doing library conservation work which was so interesting. Lovely grounds and lots of benches for picnics. Good size cafe, we went with a baby in buggy, wasn’t able to take buggy round the house as there was lots of stairs, but about to take buggy easily round cafe, shop and the grounds. Would go again

The estate offers a pay-and-display car park with an overflow option and a reasonably priced fee for the whole day. Visitors can find a cafe, kids' play park, and nearby toilet facilities. We absolutely adored this little gem we found whilst on holiday. Such a lovely and quiet place to walk the dog it was lovely to read the history of the place and the little fairy tree houses were so cute!! And the waterless loos are so unique - I've never seen anything like it and it was one the cleanest freshest cleanest loos I've ever used. There's a lovely lady in a little trailer who sells tea/coffee and delicious cakes in car park. What nice touch 🥰
Gemma A — Google review
A great place for families. There’s a decent playground, a visitor centre and a cafe Serving very good food and drinks with an area inside to sit with your dog. The trail is good with its wood carvings and marked pathway and a great way for children to get close to nature. There’s also a very interesting Victorian walled garden which I believe sells produce. The longer trail does get a bit boggy in the winter months but is great during the summer, mostly in woodland but opening out to walk around a large field before heading back to the start.
Louise H — Google review
We loved the walks, interesting and good paths, and enough shade for the dogs on a hot day. The cafe was clean with good service, but no low fat, healthy option for lunch. I went for the jacket with roasted Mediterranean vegetables, but they were very oily. The outside area had a huge number of wasps, I was badly stung, while just sitting at a table..it got up my skirt, so retreated inside. Clean loos. Perhaps sell tubes of sting relief behind the counter??!
Janette D — Google review
How lovely to be walking on solid pathways around a beautiful trail. Lots of different things to see on the way - wooden carvings and especially the walled garden. This was an oasis through tbe gateway - very well kept and a credit to the workers of Beyond the Wall (keep up the excellent work guys!) Definitely going tk return in the spring or summer to see it all in full bloom.
Em A — Google review
Lovely walks with very accessible pathway. Nice cafe and playground. Eco toilets! Picnic tables are for cafe so it would be nice to have some elsewhere to use if you bring your own food.
Judith M — Google review
Lovely place to walk around. There is a resin path that goes all the way round to the walled gardens that are made from recycled car tyres so is accessible for wheelchair users. There is a play area near the entrance as well as a compost toilet (no running water but there is hand sanitizer) it takes on average 90 mins to walk around.
Phil — Google review
Nice cafe with seating outside as well opposite a decent children's play area which includes some lovely carvings. Around the back are various units, but only the art studio was open. Two interesting compost toilets are at the start of the walks , although we didn't have time to go around them this time, we went around about 5 years ago and apparently they have been improved a lot since then. I could see a hard, eco-friendly path has been installed, plus I could see some willow sculptures and a large wooden throne. On our previous visit, i remember there was a walled garden further in as well. There's a charge at the carpark, but the walks are free (with perhaps a donation towards the upkeep). Lovely woods to go for a day out.
Graham — Google review
Wow what a lovely place to visit, great cafe ,play park ,walks around the forest and estate with a walled garden to purchase plants aswell. Also a lovely parkrun 🤟😎.

Beth Chatto's Plants & Gardens

Mentioned on

Garden
Nature & Parks
Plant nursery
Beth Chatto's Plants & Gardens is a renowned destination featuring creative, themed gardens with woodland and water areas, a plant shop, and tearoom. The seven-acre center was transformed from an overgrown wasteland into a natural spectacle by award-winning plantswoman Beth Chatto. Visitors can explore the gardens at their leisure and also visit the nursery, gift shop, and Tearoom and Gravel Garden Restaurant. The gardens are open year-round and showcase five main areas that deal with challenging soils and aspects.
It's still only March but the gardens of Beth Chatto were colourful and full of life. The birds were singing from the tree, bees already enjoying nectar and the lovely staff were chatty and as always, very knowledgeable. We attended for free as RHS Members but usually pay the entrance fee and always enjoy our visits and whilst we didn't today we can recommend the restaurant too.
Emma M — Google review
Beautiful Gardens, you could spend all day here, we had cake and tea after our walk, the food looked very nice and reasonable priced 😊. The gardens and walkways are stunning. It's so relaxing and peaceful. It's also a nursery so you can buy lots of different plants also. I came here about 15 years ago and was lucky enough to meet Beth Chatto while i was there. She was very kind and didn't mind standing there just talking to people visiting her gardens . We will be back in the summer looking forward to it.
Stacey A — Google review
1st visit in years. Lovely wall around the gardens. Had a sandwich & drink in the tearoom - reasonable prices. Then had a good look through the nursery. Love the way it's set out for different planting conditions & also recommends what to grow with it.
Richard T — Google review
Have been meaning to visit here for Years. Finally got around to it and was not disappointed. Nice gentle walks through the garden and looked like pretty good wheelchair access. Nice shop and restaurant. Plants and gardening books to purchase. You can do RHS approved training courses there. Annual tickets available for multiple visits. Access road is narrow but has passing places. A couple of coach parties visiting Ng when we were there. We booked online before visiting.
KEITH H — Google review
Probably not the best time of year to visit for masses of flowers, but colourful enough.Nice place to visit for a stroll around the gardens and then a nice cup of tea with a slice of cake in the tearoom. Also has a nursery with plants from the garden to buy.
Anne S — Google review
Crikey - what an amazing place. While we were there, on a recent family visit, a Swedish TV company were filming a gardening programme. And I'm not surprised. No wonder the gardens are world famous. We were completely entranced by the whole experience, including the different spaces and environments, the nuseries, the house and the lovely lunch in the restaurant. My only advice to any visitor would be walk slowly, take your time and just let the experience soak in...
Jeff P — Google review
Recently, I visited Beth Chatto's Plants and Gardens in Essex, near Colchester, with an old friend. The garden is exceptionally well maintained and offers a lovely day out for families. Unfortunately, the staff in the shopping area were not particularly friendly. They overcharged us for paper bags, which didn't make sense since different customers were given different prices for them. The worst part was as we were leaving; a staff member was unhelpful and patronising while we were trying to arrange a taxi back to Colchester station. A woman even repeatedly asked us to leave the premises, behaving not great! Despite these issues, we had a wonderful trip overall!
Sunshinebat 4 — Google review
Beths Plants & Gardens has a wide variety of plants and shrubs set in a beautiful location. The lakes and ponds have been created to encourage insects with numerous moisture loving plants. There is a canopy of tall oak trees creating shade and a peaceful atmosphere during the walk around. There are wooden benches located at various intervals around the gardens should you need to catch your breath during the visit. The Staff are incredibly enthusiastic & knowlegable and happy to answer any questions you may have. During the warmer months of the year, be sure to visit the pigs and learn the benefits they bring with regard to the preparation of uncultivated ground. Highly recommended.

ROARR! is a thrilling park featuring a life-size dinosaur trail, animal enclosures, adventure playground, and deer park. The Christmas market at ROARR! offers a festive experience with food, drinks, and entertainment. Families can enjoy the various attractions such as the indoor playground, dinosaur animatronics trail, farm animals, and zoo exhibits. Additionally, there are activities like Go Ape and a splash area for warmer weather.
An amazing day out for the kids and adults alike Lots and lots to do and see. All rides included in the price. My grandson had a wonderful time. We didn't do the theatre as we didn't have time. The area is very well laid out too with lots of sections.
Jess D — Google review
After driving 2 and half hours we were refused entry as we did not have a child with us. 3 adults aged 85 65 and 40 due to child safety, which we fully understood but felt we were no threat. Spoke with a very nice manager who allowed entry. Has a great afternoon looking at the dinosaurs which we last saw many years ago. So nice to see so many originals and a few new ones.
Jill R — Google review
Fantastic day out, thoroughly recommend! There is just so much to do here so be prepared for a full day out until you're all super tired! *Go kart - a bit of a queue here. Such a shame they don't provision 'queue jump' for kids with special needs who may not be able to wait in the line for so long. Something they should think about as everything else in this park is well thought through. *Maze is great fun *Prehistoric trail is so well done and the dinosaurs are well kept, with some of them moving and making sounds *The adventure tree top walk is amazing and a super hit with the kids, although they must be high enough to do this one *Food drinks and ice cream are affordable and not a rip-off Farm and other animals are also on the premises, with petting sessions. Just lovely *Rain or sun, this place is amazing, with indoor play area with big slides which the kids love *Toilets were clean throughout the day, with nappy changing area which looked solid *Kids are engaged throughout and looking forward to explore the whole park as given cards at the start which they need to stamp (there are stamp stations throughout the park) to then receive a reward at the end (a pin badge) which can be collected at the gift shop *Crazy golf small (only 8 wholes) but really well made and super fun *Gift shop has some great bits, which again, well and reasonably priced *Splash park open during summer and they even had a foam event which was a great addition *Shows are held here with Dippy and friend characters - such a shame about this one as the show was really poor, not engaging or fun for the kids. They need to rethink their story lines to make it more interesting for kids. This was a let down given the park is absolutely amazing. Overall our experience was fabulous and although this was our second time visiting this park, we will definitely come again!
MIRU — Google review
Fabulous place to take your children for the day! Plan for the shows and the water/splash park as they can get busy. The Raptor rope course was excellent, indoor play area was great, slides were perfect for tiring out the little ones! Lots to see including massive dinosaurs 😁👍🏻
Mark W — Google review
Absolutely amazing place for families with kids. Im excited. Our little one so happy after visiting this place. We will definitely come again.
Lolita R — Google review
We just got home from ROARR and I have to say we thought it was excellent! For a warm sunny day in August, we were pleasantly surprised that we didn’t have to queue for anything! There is so much to do, our kids loved it (4 and 8yrs). Best part was the splash park! Will definitely be back!
Vicky L — Google review
Amazing experience. So many various activities, our little one loved it. Spent most of day there. We are completely knackered, but so worth it. Lovely memories made just before back to school 🏫 🙂 🙃
Inese — Google review
A great day out for young and old. Plenty to do to fill the day. From walking round the site, stamping your card as you look at the dinosaurs and modern, living animals, to hitting the play areas and very popular splash area(bring some swimwear for the kids), it will be a busy day. The only issues for me, was the T-rex doesn't roar loud enough really, you used to be able to hear it from all around, and the buying all your food and drink on site is expensive, so it might pay to take a pack lunch as well. A great day out.

Lovely little cafe, great choice of cakes, lovely lunches, lovely staff & you're inside a large giftshop always superbly themed (worth a trip just to see how the shop is decorated as it's constantly changing & a much nicer experience than those big well known superstores!!!) Not forgetting the fab hardware store on the opposite side of the road... what's not to like? Sadly, no windows in the cafeteria😟 but there is an area outside with picnic benches & parasols👍🏻

Cafe staff and food were excellent, entrance beautifully decorated, spoilt by the lack of towels and tissue in the gents. We arrived at 0925 so would have expected the toilets to be serviceable. This is the second time I have had to report this to staff.

Colchester Castle Park

Mentioned on

Park
Nature & Parks
Colchester Castle Park is a historic and picturesque Victorian park located in the heart of the town center. It surrounds the town's original fortress, now transformed into a museum showcasing Colchester's rich history. Divided into upper and lower halves by a Roman wall, the upper park features the castle, bandstand, play park, crazy golf course, and Hollytrees Museum. The lower park offers a peaceful retreat with scenic walks along the River Colne.
Set in stunning grounds with plenty to look at and see. Ground is kept immaculate and the flower beds look fantastic. There's plenty of benches and seating everywhere to sit and take in the views. Cafe and coffee ☕️ shop on site as well as toilets 🚻 with plenty of bins to put your rubbish in. The main attraction being the castle 🏰. There's also a nice area to sit and watch the fish swimming around. Overall a great day out for anyone looking for somewhere to go whether you're on your own or with the whole family.
Rob R — Google review
This is a lovely park, well maintained and with a diverse landscape, covering sport grounds, a play ground, a flower garden, tree lined walking paths, a lake, a koi pond, a sandpit and most famously - a castle. It’s great in any weather but summer and autumn are the best seasons to admire the spectacle of colors in the park.
Oana G — Google review
We visited & stayed in Colchester to see James & Texas, as part of the summer series. Decided to visit castle & took part in the tour. Tour guide Gillian was fabulous, talked to us a lot & great knowledge. Castle is very interesting. We had fun in Colchester & found the people to be very friendly & helpful.
Nicola M — Google review
Saw Craig David at Lower Castle Park. Helpful staff, toilets were close by, amazing experience. One negative, if you don't know the area very well it's very hard to find the car park for events. I paid for parking but couldn't find where the car park was! 🤔😕
Paula D — Google review
Castle Park in Colchester is the perfect spot to unwind on a warm summer’s day. The gentle rustle of leaves, the fresh breeze drifting through the trees, and the laughter of children playing create such a peaceful atmosphere. The playground is beautifully designed, giving kids plenty of space to run, climb, and explore. There’s even a drinking water tap close by, a small but thoughtful touch that keeps little adventurers refreshed during their play. The park is dotted with tall, leafy trees, offering cool shade and a sense of calm no matter how hot the day gets. Walking through, you can’t help but feel you’ve stepped into a place where history and nature blend seamlessly. The only thing missing from my visit was stepping inside the castle itself. It would have been incredible to wander through its ancient halls and imagine the stories it could tell, especially since it was my very first trip to Colchester.

Castle park concert - don't go VIP it's a complete waste of money. You get a spot furthest away from the stage with minimal views of the stage. The toilets were nice, but that's it. And whoever put the flags up needs sacking. They blocked the screens!!!

Just stunning really, it's obviously a well cared for park. I hope they will renovate the play lake one day. However, It was nice to see some of the old boats have been repurposed as planters.

Castle
History Museums
Colchester Castle, a grand structure completed in 1100, offers interactive exhibits and landscaped gardens. The castle's dungeons have an eerie atmosphere with sounds that bring to life the torture scenes during the time of the notorious 'Witch Finder General', Matthew Hopkins. The castle grounds feature a plaque commemorating over 200 individuals who suffered during this dark period in Essex's history.
Really nice place with a very respectful conversion to among the oldest castles in the UK. Lots of interesting exhibits that give equal coverage to all the different peoples that have occupied it. There are several books in Latin and Middle English dotted around, among numerous other things. You can get a ~2hr visit done for sure, not accounting for the wonderful Castle Park! There's also two other museums close by, focused on natural history and Victorian times. Do check them out too!

Cozy little castle with a small surrounding park. There is not much going on inside, the whole interior is converted to a modern exhibition with different artifacts. 30-40 mins was enough to walk. There is a toilet (ran out of toilet paper). Also, no family discounts and they are not part of English heritage. For a family of 4 we paid about 50 GBP which is terrible. Guided tours cost extra.

A great day out. The grounds are well worth seeing (hence the couple of pictures) as well but once inside, the castle is interactive, very well laid out and really interesting. The staff were incredibly helpful and their customer service was first rate. Highly recommend.

We took our 8 year old granddaughter who was fascinated. Lovely staff who were very well informed. We all loved it and plan to make a return visit very soon. To much to take in on one visit.

A beautiful castle on the outside and an excellent, informative museum on the inside. The kids loved it, especially the interactive activities. It is set within some gorgeous grounds and pretty gardens. Highly recommended.

Amazing castle 🏰 to look at, although there are parts that have fencing around due to the deteration of brick work, but for a 900 year old building, it's doing pretty well. You can visit inside at a cost of £13.50 per adult, and as far as I know, there's plenty to see inside. The grounds around it are well maintained with lovely flower and rose beds. Well worth a visit and a walk around the grounds, good day out.

Colchester Castle is an amazing place to visit! The history here is fascinating, and the museum is very well organized with lots of interesting exhibits. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the interactive displays make it fun for both adults and children. The castle and the surrounding park are beautiful and perfect for a relaxing day out. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Colchester!

Visited today with a relative and it was nice to read about the history of the castle and the area, as well as see some artefacts in the museum etc too. It was a very small castle compared to what I was expecting, we managed to see the museum in an hour or so, and we were taking our time, and we did also pay the additional £4.75 each to do the guided tour, which gives you access to the vaults underground with the guide, as well as the roof (not much to see on the roof to be honest but it was interesting anyway). No cafe facilities on site but the day ticket allows you to re enter if you leave and want to come back in. I wouldn’t say you need anymore than an hour and a half maximum here to see everything within the castle museum.

Concerts & Shows
The Mercury Theatre, located in the heart of Colchester, is a vibrant hub for live performances and arts. With two auditoriums accommodating over 580 people, it hosts a diverse range of shows including theatre productions like Grease and Macbeth, as well as comedy nights and dance performances. The venue also offers student discounts. Following a full refurbishment in 2021, the theater now features a spacious cafe bar area and accessible studios.
First time visiting the mercury theatre last Saturday evening to see the Illegal Eagles. Parking was very easy, Saint Mary's car park had lots of spaces and it was just a short walk and you were there. Small restaurant where you enjoy a meal before your show. Shop in the foyer for drinks or snacks and there's also a bar. There are stairs or lifts available to gain access to the theatre seating area. Very roomy area with air conditioning. Comfortable seats, some spacers for wheelchair users. Toilet facilities were ample and kept very clean. The lighting throughout the show was amazing as was the sound quality. Upon leaving the area I noticed that in what had been the restaurant area earlier there was a stand up show going on, so clearly there's a lot that happens here, so worth keeping an eye on their website to see what on. Good place to go for a night out.
Sandra B — Google review
Genuinely one of the best theatre venues I've ever visited. The auditorium is large but all on one tier, access to seats is pretty easy. The menu is reasonably priced and quite extensive. Slushies are always a bonus, and the pantos done here are a marvel.
Maxwell R — Google review
My first visit to the Mercury Theatre exceeded expectations. The auditorium has raked seats ensuring that you get a clear view of the stage without having to peer around the heads of people in the rows in front of you, although the seats are a little narrow. The performance that I saw was slick, professional and the acoustics were very good. The actors could be heard clearly. There is a café and bar onsite and, an added bonus for the ladies, the toilets were plentiful, unlike in London where you all have to queue for two or three toilets. Parking at St Mary's car park was easy and only a few minutes walk to the theatre. I'll definitely be visiting again.
Carole A — Google review
Loved the theatre but hated the performance of Private Lives . My wife and I left at the interval. This production had none of the waspish humour you expect in a Coward play. It was poorly acted...you didn't care what happened to the characters. We were, however, impressed by the theatre.
Michael B — Google review
1st time visitor. Was very impressed with venue. Comfy rooms seats. Great sound. We saw endless love. Good show. Only comment would be upstairs bar was shut in interval and downstairs was rammed. Barely got drink before interval finished. Otherwise was great x

Lovely comfortable seats and positioned so that you look over the heads Infront of you. Lovely cafe serving a variety of food. Great coffee always a bonus. The staff were all lovely and very friendly. Can't wait to visit again.
Pauline K — Google review
Wonderful auditorium, we went to see Adam Frost. We were up at the back when these really distracting noises started behind us during the second half. There was music, a compere and lots of singing and clapping. It was almost impossible to hear Adam Frost. Lots of people around us were complaining. We were apologised to at the end and told it was a party in the studio next door. One usherette said that people have complained a lot. THEN PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT MERCURY. A few more layers of insulation or no party when there's a speaker in the main auditorium. It can't be that difficult, but when you have paid good money to hear someone speak you do expect to be able to hear them.
Linzie P — Google review
The Mercury is a brilliant and somewhat unique venue, certainly in East Anglia, in that it has specific seating areas for those with disabilities, meaning that they are not required to move around to enable others to access seating. These boxes are very comfortable, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Headsets are available for those who require assisted listening, and many in-house productions feature audio description and detailthe touch tours, both of which enable those as are blind such as myself to access and gain more from the shows we attend. Food and drink is always lovely, and the disabled toilets are very easy to access. There is designated disabled parking, with the only drawback being the requirement to navigate somewhat narrow bollards. I am also hopeful the adult pantomime will some day be audio described, and that actors will wear microphones on stage at some point, as it can be difficult to understand dialogue at times. Overall, this is a must visit venue for tourists locals alike.

Additionally, the shops offer a wonderful variety of items, including food and cuddly toys suitable for young children and even adults.

This was an amazing little farm for the kids to play, and there were so much to do. Maybe the word little is not the best way to describe it but because it was quite expansive. There were tons of activities, fun things for the kids to do, animals to feed and then the nice farm shop in the end to buy supplies and things from the farm that you can take back to whatever little lodge you’re staying in for the weekend!

Something for everyone at Hollow Trees farm. The cafe inviting and Food was very good, service excellent and friendly staff. The farm trail was brilliant, loads to do and see for the kiddies. Goats didn’t want us to leave as you can buy special feed at the trail entrance - recommend a visit!

Really lovely selection, I unfortunately didn't have the chance to go to the cafe but the shop itself had so much to offer. The butchers has a wide selection of dishes that are all made in house. The chicken was much better than that of a supermarket! The only issue I had was with the car park, as there were a lot of pot holes and arriving on a bike I had to be especially careful as I almost skidded despite driving at an appropriate speed.

Had a lovely first time visit today. We stopped at the cafe for lunch. I had the vegan burger which was very fresh and delicious. The price was also reasonable for such good quality! Nectar we ventured to the farm trail. Visiting with a 14 month old we weren't sure what would be suitable but we were pleasantly surprised that there was so much for him to do and see. He loved the ride on tractors especially!

We love a visit to the farm and this one doesn't disappoint. We can spend all day here on a nice sunny day with lots of activities for the children. There isn't loads of animals but there is goats to feed, cows, pigs and small animals like rabbits and guinea pigs but the activity field is brilliant and this keeps the children entertained for ages but especially when the barrel train is running. It's a regular visit for us and we have no complaints!
Bethany M — Google review
Great value for money and loads for children to do. HEAPS of play equipment and games for kids (and in some cases adults too) to get involved with all over the site. A good mix of sunny and shaded areas in case it's a super hot day too. Also picnic benches in loads of places too - both sunny and shaded again (very useful when kids suddenly decide it's lunchtime at short notice!). Cannot recommend this place enough. We've been here 4x now and will no doubt return many more times in the future too.

During a weekend trip to Suffolk, we stumbled upon Lavenham Falconry and managed to book an exciting Junior Falconry Experience for our 7-year-old daughter. This place is truly remarkable. Tim, the knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide, patiently answered all our questions in a relaxed and unhurried manner. Our daughter had a fantastic time being up close with various birds such as a barn owl, American Kestral, and Harris's Hawk as they flew around her and landed on her glove.
I bought the half day experience plus a spectator for a birthday present for my partner. Although I was only a spectator , I was virtually as close to the action as my partner. What an amazing experience for both of us, getting to see the most spectacular birds with amazing knowledge from Tim who taught us so much about each bird. Tim took the time with each person, explaining each bird and his range of knowledge was absolutely incredible, he’s an asset, as all the staff we met today. Thank you for making it a wonderful experience

We had an amazing morning. I booked a half day experience for my partner's birthday and it was fabulous. Joanne and Steve were welcoming, knowledgeable and just brilliant. Such good value, learnt loads, with some amazing birds. I can't recommend enough and we will definitely be back! 🙂

We were given a two hour owl experience from our family for our Ruby Wedding anniversary and we couldn’t been more thrilled. The staff are very knowledgeable and shared stories and facts in an interesting way. The owls are just magnificent! There was just one other couple that were doing the same thing and so we had lots of time with the birds. I cannot recommend this place highly enough- we are looking forward to meeting the raptors soon….

I was lucky enough to receive a 3 hour Falconry experience for a 'certain' birthday. My husband also joined me. I can't begin to describe how much we enjoyed ourselves. It was a privilege to get close to these magnificent birds and get an idea of their awesome capabilities. Steve and Jo were brilliant. Their knowledge and enthusiasm is second to none. They made the whole experience fantastic. Thank you Lavenham Falconry.

We booked a hour experience as a birthday gift. My brother was flew a barn owl and tawny owl both very beautiful and very well trained. Lavenham Falconry is a fantastic experience for the whole family. We purchased the Raven Experience which is easy to buy online. Steve and his staff are great at communication on emails and have a wealth of knowledge answering questions about the birds. Their passion for the birds comes across very well and the birds themselves look in great condition. This is our third trip over to see them and every time we've been impressed.

The Gressenhall Farm & Workhouse is a museum in Norfolk, England that tells the story of Norfolk's rich agricultural heritage and its people from 1700 to 1900. The museum has a play area, farm, and rare breeds farm.
I first came here when my son was 1, 15 years ago, had great fun getting him to recreate some of the photos! The museum is just as good as I remembered and we all had a lovely time exploring and trying on as many hats as we could find!

Absolutely fascinating place. It is wonderful that these facilities have survived to this day and now we can learn more about workhouses and expand our knowledge about British history. We were very lucky to come just before an excursion started. I’m not sure how regular excursions are but I undoubtedly advise you to attend one if you have a chance. Caroline was our guide. She was very knowledgeable and very passionate about this place and its history. There is a cosy welcoming cafe, a good place to relax and recharge before continuing to explore this place. There is a farm you can visit. A children’s playground as well inside the facilities. Tickets are a bit pricey but it is worth a visit.

Great day out, you really need to allow at least half a day to see everything. Loved the village street old store, post office pub and cottage. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the workhouse had engaging exhibits. The farm and tractor ride were informative and great for youngsters (and the young at heart!) We had a fabulous ploughman's lunch in the cafe. The staff were all really friendly and knowledgeable, we really enjoyed our day and highly recommend this place.

So much to see and do. The workhouse was a history lesson in itself and the volunteers were friendly and helpful. There were carriages and steam engines, a small village complete with it's local alehouse, school and chapel. We arrived around lunchtime on Sunday and enjoyed a light lunch before walking around. Unfortunately for us we did not leave enough time to visit the farm but we will arrive earlier next time to fit this in. We will definitely be returning.

This is a fantastic day out. Lots to see, do and learn. The farm is lovely and the people on the farm are super knowledgeable and happy to interact with the kids. The lakeside walk is a must and this is where you will find the 'stamps'. The playground was a big hit and the cafe serves delicious food.

Brilliant!! So much better then we had expected- we spent the whole day here and didn’t even get round to the farm and play area which both looked great ! Every room, except had interactive bits - the children had a truly enjoyable day - we joined in with crafts in the chapel, dressed up all over the place and learnt so much. I would highly recommend this place to families. Lots of places to sit and eat a picnic or there is a little cafe. Staff were brilliant really friendly and helpfully.

Informative text and multimedia accompanying interesting historic artefacts in the museum. Good value cafe. Very friendly staff and lovely little farm with young piglets when I went! Succeeds in conveying what rural Norfolk life was like in the 19th century.

What a great day out, we took our older mothers and they loved it! It covers the history of the workhouse over time but also social history with recreated rooms and cottages over the ages. Thoroughly enjoyed our Father's Day out. First time visiting this place. I don't usually visit places like this, but it was amazing; every time you turn around, you see something different. This is such a beautiful place. Highly recommend to go. It has amazing birds both caged and wildlife. We did the tour around the area which so great as we learn lot about the park and history. The ducks are so beautiful, healthy and very friendly. Make sure you always buy bird feed for water and land. Playground area is amazing my daughter enjoy so much she didn't want to leave, there is also a indoor play area. We had food at cafe very friendly staff and helpful and there is two sections of building if want to inside as outside we had annoying wasps!!! At cafe you order your food and give you buzzer which will go off but they will come to you with food. We definitely come back again as we enjoy the atmosphere of the place

Great place to take the little ones. You'll need a full day to take it all in but you won't regret it! Tons to see & do plus the kids get the chance to learn more about wildlife and conservation.

Haven’t been here for a few years, but it’s really a nice place to go as long as you’re not scared of birds. Tickets are pricey but it’s worth it if you spend a decent amount of time there. Otherwise it’s an expensive duck feeding day out - and you have to pay extra for the food! Human Food is reasonably priced and good, not rip off prices as some attractions choose to charge. The Hoot House play area is very good - our 7 and 9 year olds ran around for an hour. Two negatives hence the 4 stars - it would be nice if the floor in hoot house was cleaned - it was filthy - and the upstairs cafe area didn’t look like tables/chairs/glass panels had been cleaned recently - coffee stains and food over our table. Have glass panels and children there though and you are Going to get smears and licks! Also, the poo trail was badly labelled and signposted - felt a bit hit and miss and not really engaging. But otherwise a really nice place to go for children to burn off energy and find out about birds of all sorts.

Amazing summer's day visit in July 2025. Staff so welcoming. We enjoyed a 7 hour wander around the extensive site, experiencing a variety of habitats. Very fortunate to see kingfishers multiple times and for prolonged periods. Also saw marsh harriers, egrets, plenty of waterbirds. We took a picnic and ate it on a bench in the flower meadow. Visitor Centre had some lovely items to purchase but we didn't get back there before closing, sadly. We will try to return to shop and support them. Very good accessibility at this site, all paths were either boardwalks or gravel. All hides accessible by ramps, no stairs. Some hides had a wheelchair ramp at the viewing windows to aid visibility. A well planned and supported site that provides a great day out. Clean, smart, well equipped - deserves our / your support

Well kept reserve, with good paths or boardwalks to all areas. Nice hides, well managed. Lots of bird feeders ensure you will always see something, but very quiet away from these.
Paul K — Google review
Lovely place visit. Although it's rained, it lovely place to spot with many different bird species and great view barn owls in their nest boxes
Louise T — Google review
What a fantastic place, all of the paths are either well maintained gravel or wooden boardwalks, with signposts at all junctions giving the distance to the next hide or viewing area and time to walk to them. The hides are superb, very well done out inside and most have pull up - pull down windows, good seating is provided. When I went on the Friday before the August bank holiday it was quite overcast but I needed to stop on my way home from a week away, this place provided the perfect place to unwind and take a relaxing stroll, popping into the various hides with the binoculars and camera in case anything came in view. I saw a few muntjac deer, a red kite, a few buzzard, robins, black caps, lizard's, dragon flies and so much more, unfortunately no kingfisher, but a young lady had seen it prior to chatting. The suggested donation was £10 and personally I would have paid double. Well worth a visit if you find yourself in the area. The nice lady in the shop was very informative and passed on where certain birds had been sighted and she gave me a copy of the map to take with me.

Greene King Brewery

Brewery
Food & Drink
Located in Bury St Edmunds, Greene King Brewery has a rich history dating back to 1799 when it was founded by Benjamin Greene. The brewery's roots trace back even further to 1086 when monks brewed ale on the site of the Great Abbey. Today, visitors can explore the free museum housed in a 1930s landmark building and book tours that include beer tastings.
At £20, I thought the price was somewhat steep but actually, lasting two hours, it was an extremely enjoyable experience. Paul, our guide, showed us not only the brewing process, but explained in some detail, the background to the company and how it has developed over the years. Aged 71, I was anxious about the clamber up to the roof but it was absolutely worth it, with spectacular views for miles around. We even met one of the brewers, who was about to knock up an enormous batch of 'Old Speckled Hen'. I have been on many brewery tours over the years and while it's not a patch on the way Heineken do it in Amsterdam, when they move their operations to the outskirts of Bury St. Edmunds, maybe there is an opportunity to really develop their tour programme.
Michael S — Google review
The brewery tour was amazing and very good value for money. Both of us enjoyed it, even though one of us loves beer and the other isn't too keen. It was so interesting to hear about this old business and the history of making beer. There is also a wonderful view of Bury at the top! Our guide John was very knowledgeable and a good story teller. The tasting afterwards was really in depth and we tried so many more beers than expected, so there was something for everyone! And then to walk away with a complimentary bottle and a discount on the shop... a really great experience.
Samantha H — Google review
Brewery tour is well worth doing, the view at the top looking out over Bury is worth the money. As working brewery it can be really hot inside and there are some steep steps to climb.
James 4 — Google review
Best brewery tour in the world. Entertaining and full history and culture Chris did an amazing job.
Luke M — Google review
Best brews in England, the tour was lovely as was our guide, John. £20pp is a bit steep for either the walk tour or the brewery tour. But, there are plenty of beer tasters to include discounts in the cafe. Also, there is a spectacular view of Bury from the rooftop. If you go on Sunday, bring cash as the till is closed. Go to Dog & Partridge (located directly across from cafe) afterward for another pint or 4.
Famousaj1 — Google review
Tour was well worth doing. The reception staff were very friendly. The guide (Steve) was well versed with the history of the brewery and a keen beer drinker. The tour duration is about 1 hour and a half and ends with a beer tasting session of around 20 minutes. There are 114 steps from the road outside to the roof so be prepared. The view of Bury Saint Edmund from the roof top is great. There is a small shop on site where Greeneking beers can be purchased. There is also a small coffee shop on site called Beer Cafe. If this is review is helpful please press like.

Abbey Gardens is a historic park that encompasses formal gardens, ruins, sports facilities, an aviary, and amenities like light refreshments and toilets. The site was once home to one of the most significant medieval monasteries in Europe before it was destroyed by fire and dissolved by Henry VIII. The 14-acre award-winning gardens are situated on the grounds of the former Benedictine Abbey of St Edmund, which used to be a renowned pilgrimage location visited by royalty.
Stunning and well cared for gardens. Loved the accuracy of the gardening to keep things symmetrical. Borders were full and thriving. The historic ruins were fascinating. Perfect place for a walk, picnic, family afternoon.

I came here today with my little family, and we had a lovely few hours here! We loved seeing the aviary, the gardens (which are stunning!), seeing the ruins and our daughter loved the play area! Highly recommend for an afternoon out with the family.

A great place to stop for a picnic 🥪 . Some lovely ruins to explore and a beautiful flowers 💐. Be careful not to get hit by the water sprinkler. There are lots of benches all around the edges and a few tables near the gate. I loved looking at the birds. 🦜🐦🦜

The sheer history of this place is awe-inspiring and simply stunning! The combination of a beautiful cathedral, well cared-for gardens and the Abbey ruins makes it a perfect place to explore, relax and learn more about history, allowing you to imagine just how vast and powerful the abbey was in its heyday!

Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds is absolutely beautiful and such a joy to visit. The gardens are perfectly maintained, full of colour and seasonal blooms, with peaceful paths to wander and plenty of seating to take in the views. The historic Abbey ruins add a fascinating sense of history and make the setting even more special. It’s a wonderful spot for a relaxing stroll, a picnic, or simply to enjoy some quiet time in stunning surroundings. Truly one of the highlights of Bury St Edmunds

St Edmundsbury Cathedral is a 16th-century Anglican church located on a medieval site. It features notable stained glass, a crypt, and font. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful tour of the cathedral and its 160ft tower with views over the town. The cathedral also houses the final resting place of French Queen Mary Tudor, sister of Henry VIII, at St Mary's Church.
If you are into churches, this is a must. The church itself is a very well maintained, and free to tour. But the grounds and the old ruins are what is very interesting about this church. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. I'm sure on the summer they are amazing. The town was very nice, lots of stores to visit.

An overnight stay in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk for a concert. The next morning we did some sightseeing including the cathedral. Must say I was impressed, by the staff as much as the building itself, they really were welcoming. No charge to go in but they do strongly suggest a donation. (we paid it by card, with gift aid, modern world). It's a church, so it won't be for everyone but I just found it attractive, and clearly used for community events, not just for worship. There is a Lego model of the cathedral, which is impressive for Lego lovers. In summary if you like places of worship, you'll love it.

A beautiful cathedral inside and out, and with a rich history! Stunning views of the cathedral from the Abbey Gardens. Fascinating to think that today's cathedral once formed part of the Abbey, which now largely lies in ruins, but which was absolutely massive in scale. A must-see for history fanatics (and everyone else!).

This time the weather failed to show its English character - cold, rain and wind. 🤣 But, as they say - wet, rain is not afraid. 🤭You can see from the photos the gardens and ruins of the Benedictine monastery. ⛪ It was one of the largest and richest for its time in England. 😮 It stood here from its creation in 1020 until its collapse in 1539. I was very impressed by how the Main Norman Tower from the 14th century has been almost completely preserved. 😯 And from the gardens you can see the beautiful new cathedral. ⛪ Exceptional wood carving on the chairs and the organ. 👌 This town is the perfect place to escape with your family and friends and enjoy a pleasant walk... 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

The cathedral and surrounding abbey ruins and parkland are glorious add to this the medieval town, market and modern shopping centre there is something for everyone. I recommend booking the additional tower tour which includes fantastic views to all sides of the town from the top. Reasonably priced parking nearby.

Very interesting to have a look inside this cathedral. Free to go in and take as much time as you need. Donation is much appreciated. A cafe is also situated within the buildings. Well worth a look ,👍

Visitors can explore the ancient Norman keep, including the impressive Banqueting Hall with its famous 28-foot arch. The castle offers a glimpse into history with its four floors detailing the castle's rich heritage. Additionally, visitors can enjoy picnics on the grounds and visit the cafe and gift shop for a memorable day out.
We had our wedding at Hedingham Castle and we loved every moment of it! We felt in love with this venue the very first time we visited and we knew straight away we had to get married there. The venue however wouldn’t be the same without the amazing people that work there and make it all even more magical. Sarah helped us, reassured us along the way and made everything so much easier and more enjoyable alongside Jenny, Debbie and the rest of the staff that helped us out on the day. They all contributed to a very special day for us and our guests. Thanks Hedingham!

Visited for the Knights of Albion event on the August Bank holiday. Fantastic event with lots to do, including axe throwing and archery included in the tickets. Castle and grounds are lovely and well maintained, however aside from the castle itself, not much to do on the site, and can be covered in a couple of hours if there are no events on as the castle itself isn't very large.

3rd May 2025 - we finally had our day. The team at Hedingham Castle were absolutely amazing. The venue was absolutely stunning, our day was just perfect. From the aging old Castle to the Georgian House to wonderfully presented Marquee, we absolutely had the Wedding we hoped for. The entire team worked tremendously throughout, taking care of us and our guests. Our day ran smoothly, our guests drank, ate and danced and were were completely at ease taking it all in.. We love it, every single part of it. Thank you Hedingham Castle for making our day so special.

It was everything we hoped for and more, we just want to relive the day again! Codey and Mitch x

We had the best day of our lives at Hedingham Castle. As wedding venues go, this one truly is breathtaking and unique. The combination of the ceremony at the castle, drinks reception in the grounds of the manor house and wedding breakfast/evening in the marquee is impossible to beat. From start to finish, the staff were helpful, professional, friendly and attentive. We visited several times during the wedding planning process, spoke through all of our choices and Sarah helped us craft a wedding that was personal to us, with loads of advice and helpful input. They also responded quickly to emails whenever I needed which helped make the process stress free. On the day, Jackie made sure everything ran like clockwork and looked after both of us. We couldn't recommend this venue and it's staff more highly. Jack & Alice Bailey

I spent a lovely few hours walking around the immaculately kept grounds of Hedingham Castle on the Time Trail. Finding hidden shields with dates and letters on. We then read the history of the castle and people related to the castle plus using the letter clues solved the puzzle and was rewarded once in the castle. A thoroughly lovely and very informative day. Several adults as well as children completing the trail. We then had a picnic by the lake. Beautiful grounds and structure, interesting tour, welcoming staff. We had a very pleasant visit. Our family of four from the US found our tour guide, Andy, entertaining and knowledgable and we were particularly grateful that he tolerated our fascination and inquiries about the 17th Earl.

This was a fantastic day out. We went on the May jousting weekend. Had the best fun in a while. The entertainment was brilliant, the jousting was highly amusing, absolutely amazing watching the kids (and dads) 😁enjoy themselves with the play swords in the arena. Incredible to listen to the history from the various staff who shared their historic knowledge and showed their personal collection of artifacts. The birds of prey was so beautiful to watch. A definite must go. Very well organised. Couldn’t fault it. And the Sun finally came out. Thank you

Colne Valley Railway is a restored Victorian railway line that offers steam and diesel train rides as well as miniature railway rides. The tourist attraction is run by enthusiasts and is great for kids and adults. It offers good value for money.
Went for a late opening Christmas special. Have been before on daytime visits for steam and diesel days. Station and approaches were lit by lashings of fairy lights with unlimited rides on the diesel railcar. There was food and hot drinks available on the HST restaurant cars. All in all a great visit for a couple of hours

Visited on Saturday 05th July 2025, HST Day, Colne Valley Railway. 5 HST Class 43 Power Cars on this small preserved railway. First time visit. Easy to find and decent car parking adjacent to the entrance. The ticket office incorporates the entrance, shop and small refreshment options, inc a seating area outside adjacent to both the outdoor model and small narrow gauge railway, which unfortunately wasn't open today due to a flood on the track. As this was a special HST power car running day there was one set of 2 power cars and a coach set inc a buffet car selling food on board. As the line is quite short, the service ran up and down without stopping at every pass of the single station. After a ride, we explored the rest of the site, inc the Museum, Signal Box (which was operating and the signalman was giving briefings on how the signals work). Attempted to use the advertised Woodland walk, but it was completely overground, which was disappointing as this was an open day and it's listed on the site map as a feature. Today's visit was a lovely chance to see the railway, and if you enjoy HST power cars, this is the place to come. What other locomotives and DMUs run on other days isn't clear, but worth a visit either way and as ever, the volunteers are the lifeblood of these railways. At £13 a ticket very reasonable to.

"Visited Colne Valley Railway today and had an amazing experience! The highlight was the incredible Hornby railway set, lovingly created by one man over 40 years and meticulously maintained. My nearly-one-year-old son was captivated by the moving trains, and we enjoyed riding on all three trains that were in operation. Sitting in first class was a treat, with a lovely spot to enjoy a snack and drink - and the Victoria sponge cake was absolutely delicious! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making our day even more special. The museum also features well-preserved World War II exhibits and plenty of vintage machinery to admire. With a children's play area and lots to explore, this is a great destination for families. Highly recommend!

Lovely little railway. Reasonably priced and a really relaxing few hours in the countryside. Its veru short but that is great for the younger children. The HST buffet was awesome and the seating very comfy. Model railway, museum, carriage exhibitions, signal box and the buildings were all well preserved and lovely to visit. Shop is well stocked and all the volunteers friendly.

Been multiple times with the little lad, lots to do and see unlimited train rides on the loco’s and miniature railway. The buffet car is good value, foods good (love the cream tea). Staff are really friendly and very knowledgeable. Really Great day out.

Nice little place. Good half day out for families with kids. We went on a steam day, but sadly the steam train had broken down. It was replaced with a Diesel instead and the kids still had fun. Friendly staff, clean facilities, easy car parking, enough to entertain the kids for a few hours. Reasonably priced. We spent about 3-4 hours there and rode the trains a few times.

Superb day out. What struck us most about our visit to Colne Valley yesterday, was the amazing friendliness of each and every volunteer. Each and every one of them stopped to make time to chat to me and my lad, from the lady in the shop, the young man on the miniature railway, the train crew, signallers and the model railway team. The amount of time they spent explaining how things worked to me and my son was amazing and they were also there helping a lad with some extra needs have a great time too. Certain other preserved railways could learn a lot from Colne Valley with how they treat their visitors as important, rather than them being a annoying distraction to them running there full size train set ! If we lived closer, me and my son would volunteer here without question. Colne Valley, you are absolute class.

National Trust - Anglesey Abbey, Gardens and Lode Mill is a picturesque estate featuring a 17th-century Jacobean-style mansion with an extensive art collection. The property boasts 98 acres of landscaped grounds adorned with sculptures and shady tree-lined avenues. Visitors can explore the historic Lode watermill, which has been in operation since the Doomsday Book in 1086.
Beautiful house with magnificent gardens and woodland. It's a lovely place to walk through the different gardens, lawns and avenues, with dozens of statues dotted around, and there are plenty of benches to take a breather or just enjoy a quiet moment. The dahlias were simply stunning, and the walk to the mill was carpeted with cyclamen. The office cafe is very small and just offers drinks and snacks, but the restaurant by the visitors entrance offers a better choice and has plenty of seating inside and outside.

I was fortunate to visit during an open day so entry was free. The house and gardens are very impressive. The grounds are very big and the accompanying map was helpful. The flower displays are excellent especially the roses and dahlias. The house is worth visiting and there are staff in most rooms to explain about the history of the house. There is a main restaurant and toilets at the main entrance and smaller cafe near the house but food choices were poor. I would suggest taking a packed lunch with you. Overall a great day out with lots to see.

Excellent National Trust property with lots of the Abbey open to view. The gardens are more naturalistic rather than formal but lovely to walk around. The autumn leaf colour is very striking. The cafe had a different menu to other NT that we have been to, which was a refreshing change. I woukd definitely recommend a visit.

Wow what a really memorable and lovely day out. Enjoyed roaming round the house. Such a lot of art and treasures to admire. Excellent guides who answered questions. You must see the rose and dahlia gardens. Picture taking opportunities. So much selection and colour. Loved the dotted around statues, well Kept grounds, serenity and walks. Highly recommend this NT property. Wish the shop was more affordable. Lots of people browsing but could sell much more if their pricing was more justifiable, competitive and affordable. Lovely selection of things to buy but too pricey.

I took my 91 year old dad for a few hours out in a quality garden. We couldn't have asked for more. The dahlia display was jaw dropping. The silver birches divine. The carpet of cyclamen was a joy to behold. We loved our few hours at Angelsey Abbey gardens. The entire garden walk was spectacular. Dad used the NT wheelchair which was really good as it had rough terrain tyres. The reception staff were so nice and accommodating. We also had lunch in the cafe. Perfect!

We thoroughly enjoyed walking around here. As it was the autumn the golden leaves on the trees were lovely. A bonus was being able to go into the house and see the various rooms laid out as they were in the past. It was school half term so busy in the cafe at lunchtime. There's plenty of space for ball games, walking or sitting (although not many benches to sit on). Already looking forward to visiting in the spring.
Alan L — Google review
An astonishing experience. Almost to much to take in on one visit. The most opulent of buildings packed with objects of a wide and varied nature. Just simply packed with artefacts, furniture, paintings ..and, iinevitably, as he seems to have clearly been inordinately vain..his many many suits. Fortunately this is just a temporary exhibition. The rest are well worth a visit. Very busy. Shops, restuarant etc. Acres of walks..when the weather permits. We didn't walk, or visit the working mill...it was bitterly cold. So cannot comment on those features. Nor the restuarant.

This is a very handy venue if you’re in the Cambridge area. Extensive gardens, and for me the pic of the bunch is Lode Mill and the Dahlia garden. The Dahlias were absolutely stunning. We didn’t visit the house on this occasion, although we have done before, if you do so you’re expected to do a lot of forelock tugging to the Fairhaven family.

IWM Duxford, a remarkable destination for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike, is Europe's largest aviation museum. This former WWI airfield boasts an impressive collection of over 200 meticulously preserved vintage aircraft housed in expansive hangars. Visitors can marvel at a diverse range of planes, from iconic Spitfires to the legendary Concorde. The American Air Museum within Duxford pays tribute to WWII servicemen and features the most extensive collection of American military and civil aircraft outside the United States.
Fantastic place to visit, plenty to see and discover. Some amazing exhibits, the American Museum was particularly impressive. If you’re lucky then you might get to see something old get airborne. I was fortunate to visit the day after a big Airshow so there were a few visiting aircraft still there. £30 sounds a lot but you can easily spend a whole day here so really it’s great value for money. Food not cheap but it never is at places like this, though plenty of outdoors seating if you bring your own.

Fantastic day, need more than one day to see everything. We mainly done hanger 1, the US area and the outside planes. These were knowledgeable and informative. We became members so we can come back a few more times. 100% recommended. All the staff we spoke to were lovely.

Great museum. It's huge. Spread over several hangars and buildings, and includes a Concorde, B52, SR71, U2 and many others. When we visited there were lots of light aircraft and classic planes like spitfires and bi-planes flying as well. There are several restaurants, a free shuttle bus, large gift shop and lots of volunteers (in red) more than happy to help. Car parking is free.

The Duxford Air Museum is an absolutely incredible place to visit! The collection is vast and beautifully displayed. The exhibitions are informative and engaging, with plenty of interactive displays and stories that bring the history of flight to life. Watching aircraft take off and land right in front of you is an unforgettable experience. There are also great facilities — plenty of parking, a nice café with good food and coffee, and lots of space for families to explore.
Simply W — Google review
As a big aviation enthusiast, I was really looking forward to exploring the site and seeing some of the iconic aircraft up close. There was a short wait to buy tickets, and while the entry price did seem quite steep, I was happy enough to pay it for the chance to see the planes I’d come for. Unfortunately, the gentleman at the ticket desk (older, with white hair and a beard) was rather unfriendly and didn’t offer the warmest of welcomes — not the best start to the day. My first stop was the Concorde, which I’ve always wanted to experience. There were two staff members standing by the entrance, but they seemed too caught up in their own conversation to greet visitors or answer questions. Once onboard, there was no one available to provide information or engage with visitors, which was disappointing — especially for such a famous aircraft. After leaving Concorde, I made a beeline for the commercial airliners on display outside — the part of the visit I was most excited for. Unfortunately, when I arrived, all of them were closed for the day except the aircraft in British Airways livery. While that one was open and staffed, and the gentleman onboard was extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer my questions (thank you for that!), I couldn’t help feeling disappointed that the others were shut. Throughout my visit, I also noticed that staff presence around the site felt quite sparse. In several areas, particularly around the commercial airliners, I had a lot of questions but couldn’t find anyone to ask. I was later told that access to the aircraft varies by day, which feels like a bit of a “luck of the draw” situation — fine if communicated clearly, but frustrating when you’ve paid full price and key exhibits aren’t open. Overall, while I did enjoy parts of the visit and found the open aircraft fascinating, the lack of staff engagement, limited access to exhibits, and inconsistent communication left me feeling underwhelmed. With such an incredible collection, I had hoped for a more welcoming and interactive experience.
Josh M — Google review
Incredible place! Honestly the best aviation museum I have ever been to and one of the best museums I have been to overall. Lots to see, lots to interact with, actually getting into some of the planes, many elevated platforms and floors to see these huge aircraft from different angles. The airfield is active with all sorts taking off and landing throughout the day. Accessibility for wheelchair users is great too.
Joshua N — Google review
Very extensive collection contained at an active airfield. Vintage planes taking off and landing all day was a huge perk! To see these aircraft still flying is indeed a pleasure! Everything was in good order and labeled. Well worth spending the day here; so very much to see and experience!

Cambridge University Botanic Garden is a 40-acre expanse of gardens and plants that attracts families and couples. The city's beauty is further enhanced by various open spaces, including the University Botanic Gardens, which have been extensively developed and improved. The Backs, a series of landscaped lawns and gardens along the River Cam behind the main line of colleges, adds to the charm. Additionally, visitors can explore Kings Parade with its attractive shops facing Kings College and its chapel.
We love botanical gardens when we travel. This is my highest recommendation for a visit. The atmosphere and garden itself is emasculate, beautiful and pristine. One of the best £8 you could spend for a day or even hour stop. Nice staff, good food, well maintained. Would definitely go back, you can get lost in the vast beauty of each section for hours!

A tranquil botanic gem in a busy city! An extraordinary garden of plants with some beautiful tree species. Easily accessed via the Park and Ride there's room to explore, learn or just sit and relax. Add to this a cafe with great coffee and the biggest croissants I've ever seen thanks to Stir Bakery, it's a wonderful day out.

I recently visited the Cambridge University Botanic Garden in the evening, and it was one of the most peaceful experiences I’ve had in the city. The atmosphere was calm, quiet, and perfect for simply being yourself. Unlike many crowded spots, here you can slow down, breathe, and enjoy nature at your own pace. The garden is beautifully maintained with a huge variety of plants and trees from different parts of the world. Each plant is labelled with its scientific name, which makes the walk not only relaxing but also quite educational. I found it fascinating to see species that I would otherwise never come across. Whether you are someone who enjoys botany or just loves greenery, the diversity on display is impressive. What I especially liked about visiting in the evening was how tranquil it felt. The soft light made the colours of the plants stand out, and the paths were quiet enough to just reflect, think, or simply sit in peace. It’s the kind of place where you can take a slow stroll, spend time with yourself, or even bring a book and read under the trees. Overall, a must-visit in Cambridge for anyone who wants to escape the noise of the city and connect with nature.

The Botanical Gardens are always lovely any time of year. They are great value for money and very family friendly as they always have free activities for children and there is no charge for them to enter. Lots of lovely plants and different areas from the greenhouses to winter gardens. Only negative points...the food is very expensive and wasn't particularly good (a very bland salad today...apparently it was supposed to have raisins in...I got one! At £6 a bowl I expected flavour and *gasp* a dressing). The other is parking. Not the gardens fault, but there isn't any. This is particularly difficult for disabled people. You can park for 3 hours but that's very little time to visit given the extra time and effort it takes with a disability. There are NO disabled spaces and the pavement is is dangerous for either a mobility scooter or walking aid users. The Council needs to revaluate this! Also wish they'd keep the shop open till 5pm so you can buy stuff on the way out! They are missing a trick there.

Still worth a visit in Autumn to enjoy all the beautiful colours. Such a relaxing place for a walk. We enjoyed the short guided talk about the Darth Vader plant especially for Halloween too!

This is a magical destination, especially for those who love plants. Despite visiting on a weekday, there was a decent crowd, but it never felt overwhelming. There is so much to see in terms of plant life, and we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a banana tree in bloom. We were also grateful for the fully-stocked cafe, which provided much-needed cool drinks on a warm day.

I had a lovely visit! It was a quiet Monday, and pleasant even with intermittent showers. It’s a good size - not overwhelmingly big (I found Kew too big for one day). The glass houses were a particular highlight but lots of other lovely areas like the herbaceous borders and the scented garden. The Rising Path was informative. I enjoyed a salad and drink for lunch at the cafe, which wasn’t busy. If you buy a ticket, you can leave and come in again on the same day which I did and was handy for me. I’ll definitely come again!

Cambridge University Botanic Garden is a very beautiful place, with an acceptable level of biodiversity. However, considering this is a garden run by one of the world’s top universities, I expected a bit more in terms of rare or unique plant collections. The garden itself is well designed and easy to explore. I found that half a day is enough to fully walk around and enjoy the entire space at a relaxed pace. One small disappointment was the rose garden, which didn’t quite meet expectations. On the positive side, this is a great place for families and kids. There are engaging activities that turn the visit into a fun adventure for younger visitors. For me, the highlight of the garden was the glasshouse. I won’t spoil the experience — you should definitely visit and see the stunning diversity of plants on display there. It is by far the most brilliant part of the garden and highly recommended. Art Museums
The Fitzwilliam Museum, located on Trumpington Street in Cambridge, is a renowned destination for art and history enthusiasts. Established in 1816, the museum boasts an extensive collection of classical art and artifacts from various cultures. Visitors can explore Asian ceramics, armor, coins, paintings, and archaeological remains such as a Roman Swiss army knife and a colorful 3000-year-old Nespawershefyt coffin from Egypt.
Visiting the Museum right as it opened was a fantastic idea. We had many of the galleries to ourselves, which made the experience even more special. The collection is incredibly diverse, spanning from ancient Egyptian artifacts to masterpieces by famous painters. The building itself is a work of art, and it's a great place to spend a few hours exploring history and culture. Best of all, it's free to enter!

The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge is truly a gem—and completely free! Founded in 1816 from the personal collection of Richard Fitzwilliam, it has grown into a world-class museum with stunning collections of art, antiquities, manuscripts, and decorative arts. The building itself is beautiful, with grand galleries and a light-filled central hall. Highlights include works by Turner, Monet, and Van Dyck, as well as fascinating Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artifacts. Every corner has something to surprise you, from delicate miniatures to imposing sculptures. Whether you’re an art lover, history enthusiast, or just curious, it’s easy to spend hours exploring. A perfect cultural stop in Cambridge, and a must-see for both locals and visitors.

This is a fantastic museum and if you’re interested in art, it would be a reason enough to come to Cambridge, even if you have nothing else while you’re here. There’s a lot of nice impressionist paintings as well as other realist and pointillism from around the same time. As you could see in the photos, the Holdings for armory, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, ceramics are very extensive. I’ve got a big gift shop in a very nice little café on site as well. It’s really nice.

A true oasis of culture and beauty in the heart of Cambridge. Whenever I have a bit of time I like to walk in and get a good dose of inspiration. The museum never disappoints. The staff are lovely, helpful and friendly. I like the new, more modern display mixing various periods under different themes, it's refreshing. There are always fascinating temporary exhibitions too. The café and gift shop are also excellent. All in all, the Fitzwilliam museum is a must if you have more than several hours in Cambridge.

An outstanding museum in an impressive building! It offers a compact and clearly arranged collection of works of art, priceless historical artefacts, coins and much more. It may seem surprising to someone from Germany, but like many other institutions in England, admission to the Fitzwilliam Museum is free. Culture should not be commercialised and should be accessible to everyone – the UK is absolutely on the right track here. Anyone who is in Cambridge and has not yet visited the Fitzwilliam Museum has really missed out on a significant opportunity!

The Fitzwilliam Museum was much bigger than I expected and definitely worth visiting. There’s a surprisingly large collection of drawings and artworks, and you can easily spend hours exploring without getting bored. I also bought a ticket for the ancient exhibition. It was quite small, but well-curated and genuinely interesting. Overall, a great experience and absolutely worth the trip. I’d recommend it to anyone spending time in Cambridge.

Very nice museum with a lots of different arts displayed from various era and places. If you like arts your place is here when you visiting Cambridge. The entry was free, the staff was polite and helpful all the way. Please make a note turn off your phone flash as it harms the the displayed arts. The staff also will ask you politely. You can take many photos as you want. Very diverse and nice collection. Recommended to visit it. I post pictures from my favourite part the armory.

King's College Chapel

Church
Sights & Landmarks
King's College Chapel is a stunning example of late Gothic architecture located in the heart of Cambridge. This 16th-century chapel boasts an impressive fan-vaulted ceiling, intricate wood carvings, and original stained-glass windows. It took nearly a century to complete this monumental structure, which was founded by Henry VI and later finished by five English monarchs. The chapel's history includes being spared during the English Civil War due to Oliver Cromwell's nostalgia for his college days.
King’s College Chapel is a breathtaking masterpiece of Gothic architecture and one of the most iconic landmarks in Cambridge. With its soaring fan-vaulted ceiling—the largest of its kind in the world—and stunning stained-glass windows, the chapel creates an atmosphere of awe and reverence. Visitors are often struck by the serene beauty and historical richness of the space. Commissioned by King Henry VI in the 15th century, the chapel has witnessed centuries of history and royal influence. Its grand organ and regular choral services, especially those by the King’s College Choir, add a deeply moving auditory experience to the visit. Whether you’re drawn by the architecture, the music, or the legacy, King’s College Chapel is a must-see for anyone exploring Cambridge.

Beautiful Cathedral King’s College Chapel is an amazing architectural building of Gothic Art. Probably one of the most iconic landmarks in this city. We highly recommend the visit. It is very unique, but tremendously stunning!

Words are wasted here - one of the finest monuments to Perpendicular architecture anywhere. Go in, have your breath taken away, admire the paintings, and try and keep your heart in your chest. The fan vaulting is like no other. Pick a sunny, still day, and approach the college from the Backs, the classic side - you avoid the tourists, feel more like a student 😉 And when you are done, take some time sitting on the Backs, and appreciate that Rupert Brooke and others used to punt to here from Grantchester for their lectures. I'm guessing (hoping?) in straw boaters
Gordon D — Google review
Indeed a very very special place. We were lucky that a former student has shown us this area. With all the details and historical parts of the Kings college chapel. All these details are so special that you need to take the time to observe all the details of this chapel. The colors, the building architecture in relation with the stories is amazing. You can easily enter this chapel via the main entrance of the Kings College. Please do vist the total area which is amazing and combine this visit with the other College areas in Caimbridge.

There is a reason this is a must stop. The ceiling alone was worth the price of admission. The stain glass work was very human. It needs renovation. They seemed to admire the "modern man" in several panels which caught my attention. Yes, all the tourists stop here. . .for a reason.

beautiful, and picturesque place that feels like stepping into a storybook. From the historic colleges and cobbled streets to the tranquil River Cam, every corner offers something breathtaking. The locals are incredibly polite and friendly, always happy to help or share a recommendation. Whether you're punting, visiting museums, or simply enjoying a coffee by the river, the atmosphere is peaceful and welcoming.

Can only visit the chapel by attending a service. We went to Evensong - a truly uplifting place. It made me feel very humbled. The choristers were serene.

The River Cam in Cambridge offers a delightful way to explore the city, passing by prestigious colleges like Trinity College and St Johns. You can admire the unique geometric shape of the Mathematical Bridge at Queens and even hop aboard a punt for a leisurely cruise down the river. The Varsity Hotel & Spa provides an excellent starting point for exploring the Cam, with its proximity to the punt station.
🏞️This is my first time to visit River Cam,and the view is extremely pleasant & beautiful. I never thought I would come to River Cam one day, although we need to take the boat to appreciate such beautiful scene & see the college students reading by the river. It’s worth visiting River Cam once in our lifetime.✨ Please enjoy the view & boating on Eiver Cam ,and you will find how pretty River Cam is.🛶

It was one of the best experiences I have ever had. If you visit Cambridge, this should be definitely in your bucket list. To go punting in river Cam. It was a wonderful experience. You can book a boat for yourself, or you can share a boat, and if you're confident enough, you can ride on your own.
Ramindu J — Google review
If you’re in Cambridge, make sure to go “punting” on the River Cam. Rent a boat for £30, spend a few hours paddling down the river. You’ll cross the Bridge of Sighs, the Mathematical Bridge, and many others. Many guided tours available. The red boats offer alcohol for sale. Excellent leisure activity in the afternoon with family or friends.

It was glorious going on the river with others punting. The guide was so well informed. It was a joyous experience

As soon as my boat start journey I feel I’m in a magical land for the time of my River Cam tour on the punt. Can’t explain the atmosphere in words. A must experience thing in the whole of Cambridge. The weather was cold but bright day and got some pics. I would recommend not focusing on taking pictures much coz you’ll loose the feel of the punting trip. This river is a source of great nature beauty, swans, bridges as well as colleges universities n many historical buildings. There must b lovely walks especially in summer or spring when the weather is on peak n gives u all to make an amazing atmosphere.

The total experience of punting down the River Cam in the educational city of Cambridge was so awesome. It was exciting and calming at the same time, passing under various bridges and flanked by historic buildings like St. John's College and Queen's College among others. Houghton Mill & Waterclose Meadows, a National Trust property, features a wooden flour mill and an artificial mill pond. Visitors can explore the 18th-century working watermill and enjoy walks along the Ouse Valley Way, which runs alongside the Great Ouse river. Electric riverboat tours are available from St Ives to Houghton Mill during summer, offering opportunities to witness flour milling on Sundays.
I absolutely love visiting this place time and again. It's small yet beautiful & peaceful place to be around with a loved ones. A long river walk in the morning, hiring boat, canoeing then going around the cannal, enjoying Coffee and cakes at the tea house and the children loved to swim around the pond. I highly recommend this beautiful place to visit once in your lifetime.

Historic watermill, operating on select days. River cruise and self hire boats also available and a small beach area for river swimming.
Simon J — Google review
I had such a lovely day out at Houghton Mill in Abbots and would definitely recommend it. The mill itself is a really interesting National Trust property, full of character, but what made it extra special was everything around it. You can hire boats or punts by the mill at very reasonable prices, which was so much fun and such a relaxing way to enjoy the river. On sunny days, it’s also a great spot to bring your own inflatable if you fancy drifting along at your own pace. The area is perfect for picnics too. There are plenty of tables outside if you want to sit and enjoy food from the café (which was excellent – really tasty and good value), or you can just bring a rug and set yourself up right by the water. It’s such a peaceful, pretty place to relax. If you’ve got time, it’s also worth wandering into the village. There are some really good pubs, all with a welcoming feel, plus a lovely antique and art shop that’s fun to browse. Altogether, Houghton Mill and the village make a brilliant day out with a great mix of history, nature, good food, and a lot of fun on the water!

Lovely small and spacious campsite near the river for walks and water for those who like messing about in it!! The mill was very interesting and a short walk to pubs with good beer. The facilities were great and very clean. My only small gripe was no toilet paper left in the morning.
Gill C — Google review
This was a pleasant and unexpected experience with a lovely mill on a river. Some of the views seemed out of a money painting. We didn't go in the but just did the circular walk. There is a swimming and canoeing area. There's also a campdite close by and a small cafe for refreshments. Parking on grass is available. Good for families wanting to explore and be at one with nature and dogs are welcome.

Visited when en-route home from Shropshire and well worth it. Very busy to park but well organised. Interesting bit of history and couple of enthusiastic volunteers added to it. Pleasant walk along river too. Bought some of the milled flour.
Eddie B — Google review
Beautiful place. Did the mill tour but definitely going back to do the 5k circular walk and perhaps take out a rowing boat.
Dave C — Google review
Great place for swimming, canoeing, or long walks. The mill is definitely worth visiting, check the opening hours. There are toilets and a tea shop next to the car park. You can rent boats and canoes. Car park and facilities close usually at 4 pm, but you can still drive out, so don't worry about leaving your car for longer, drive up to the gate (not too close) and it will open. Beautiful scenery, we did an 8k walk (check out the map in my pictures, red trail, with a green shortcut south of the lakes) but you have many options, including an around 20k one recommended on a map just south of the mill. There may be mud and narrow paths in tall grass, so aim at good weather. Don't miss walking around the picturesque village with many old houses, a bit like going back in time. Recommended.

Specialty Museums
The Bubblecar Museum in Boston offers a unique and enjoyable experience for families. With a display of 50 microcars, visitors can even take a ride in one of the bubble cars. The museum also features a small cafe offering delicious treats at reasonable prices and a charming little shop with various items for purchase. In addition to the quirky cars, there are exhibits that evoke nostalgia, such as collections from the 1950s.
My wife and I have been trying to visit the Bubblecar museum for the last five years, and we finally made it. What an experience we had, it was fantastic, and far exceeded our expectations. Spread over two floors the place is rammed with nostalgia, for those who remember the Bubblecar era they have it all and more. I confess I went with the intention of having a ride in one, but when I saw the road they took you on, I changed my mind. The road is a 60mph racetrack, and a 30mph Bubblecar looked way too vulnerable to me. I highly recommend this museum, you will not be disappointed....

Really good day out lots of vintage items to enjoy, all staff there were very friendly! For five pounds each me and my partner really enjoyed it, it is fairly small and if you rush it you’d be in and out in 10 minutes but we took our time to read and enjoy everything. There’s also a cafe attached but we didn’t try this so couldn’t comment on this, Definately worth a look if you enjoy a good trip down memory lane!

Our family of five recently visited the Bubblecar Museum while on holiday and had a delightful experience. Entry was very affordable at just £5 per adult and £1 per child. The museum featured an impressive collection of interesting cars and nostalgic items from the 1950s. A knowledgeable guide enriched our visit, offering insightful explanations about the exhibits. The gift shop had a lovely selection of reasonably priced items, and the café provided good value refreshments. Overall, it’s a charming little museum perfect for a family outing and something a bit different. Staff were lovely, add this to your todo list!

Excellent museum and very friendly owners Loads of interesting cars, vintage interiors & items, plus you can get a ride in a bubble car too! Also great value ... only a fiver for adults and I think 2 quid for kids and *Dog Friendly*. Cafe good, We had 2 coffees, toasted sandwiches and a slice of cake for 13£.. Fantastic.

Today we visited the bubblecar museum with my family and it was a good experience. You can have a good time seeing old cars, motorcycles, it has old items that were used in homes. The staff is very friendly and the surroundings are very beautiful. A different activity and a place that I recommend visiting if you are around.

A bit scruffy, the place hadn't been dusted or hoovered in years, but a great selection of micro cars, plus some bikes and period dressed rooms. Small carpark but we found space and only a fiver to get in!! A bargain!
Nigel E — Google review
A very interesting collection of motor vehicles of the past, many more than expected, the museum is actually larger than we thought. There are several three-dimensional replicas of historical scenes, like a mechanic shop, and a few windows with car models. There is also a second floor with other scenes and cars. Really worth a visit.

Spas & Wellness
The Y Spa is a contemporary spa located near the A1 in Wyboston, which offers complimentary Wi-Fi service. This establishment is equipped with a restaurant and an extensive range of holistic treatments that cater to different preferences. Besides these amenities, it also boasts of saunas and other facilities that make for a serene environment. At an affordable price starting at 40 per person, guests can enjoy the various packages available, including use of their golf course.
I haven’t been to this spa for a few years now so I welcomed the changes they have made. I liked the new way to check in and out - very modern using QR codes and electronic devices in reception. There was staff members on hand in the reception area helping out so felt supported while checking in. I should applaud this spa though as the saunas steam rooms and hydro pool felt warm and inviting (some spas have turned down the heat since price increases) More water beds since my last visit and a corner for mindfulness - on trend Where you can colour in and/or origami The spa felt clean and comfortable. Suggestions to management: As you are more ‘touch free’ services I think it could be beneficial to look into red light/ infrared therapy/ lights or lamps. These have got more traction over the last few years and do could potentially offer amazing benefits. Also I wasn’t too keen on the plastic wrapped robes, it didn’t check the plastic was recyclable but felt it was a bit of a waste Very impressed with the GHD branded hair dryers Whilst I was in the changing room a few other lovely people asked me where the toilets were and how to get back to the pool so with that in mind perhaps a site map in communal areas would be advantageous or a few signs in eye sight? I saw some fantastic extras for people with disabilities and they have a hoist which is so good. I don’t use it but welcome the choice for others to enjoy. The cafe had oat milk so I could enjoy a latte and a Crossaint. I heard someone ask for a smoothie ‘healthier’ choice on the drink menu - there wasn’t one but in the future maybe you could consider this, add a bit of protein powder and this could be a real good meal replacement! Anyway, thanks for a blissful 3 hours
Sarah W — Google review
It was my first time coming to this spa with friends. Check in was easy, you do it on an electronic kiosk and you’re given a wristband that will be used for your locker and purchasing drinks. For food it’s a set platter to share between two. The chicken was bland but the other items like the soup and the sweet potato chips were delicious. The dessert was nice also. The drinks were delicious as well, particularly the juices, these were very refreshing. Staff were very helpful and friendly. They made the experience more enjoyable. I appreciated their kindness and attentiveness. When going into the spa area there is a pool outside and there are several steam rooms. There was a salt room we went into but it wasn’t hot, but was still nice to sit inside of. They also have an ice room - which is a small room with an ice slab on the wall, this was nice to use to cool down. There was another room they had which was very misty and filled with stones, very hot and my friend enjoyed this one. It was relaxing to try the different rooms and lay in the pool. After you’re finished they have a shower room area but the hooks are located at the end, so you need someone to help you get your towel if you’re not at the end. They do have shower items in the cubicle like shower wash, shampoo and conditioner from ELEMIS. This was quite nice as it helped with my hair from what was done at the spa. There were also plenty of spaces to get ready - to dry your hair, apply face creams or do makeup. It was a very pretty layout and plenty of space for everyone. I really enjoyed my experience here and would recommend it for others also.

Gone down hill massively. Went there yesterday and was over booked, not enough space anywhere completely overcrowded. Now you have to order your drinks via your phone which makes no sense. You go to a spa to relax not look at your phone. We left after 1hr because it was so busy and didn't feel safe leaving 40 robes on hooks with my phone in its pocket. Also my partner left her bikini in the changing rooms. Called today and it's been stolen. Management completely have there head in clouds. Used to be a nice place. Won't ever be going back.
PB — Google review
I have been to this spa many times over the last ten years as I live locally and have always enjoyed my experience. The spa packages with food were great, as well as the treatments for special occasions. I’ve often booked these for my partners birthday as a special treat. Tonight was the first time my partner and I have returned to ‘relax’ after the end of a stressful week of work. Unfortunately, since the updates to the spa I no longer feel the same. We left after two hours as the facilities and pool were far too overcrowded to use, and it was not relaxing in the slightest. It seems what used to be quite a boutique and up market spa has turned extremely tacky. The ‘touchless’ treatments are not the same as a proper massage or facial; we had to share a room with another couple for a start. Which was a weird experience to say the least. We will not be returning again any time soon, which is a real shame, as we used to really enjoy this spa and the treatments/packages that were offered. I’m not sure who did their market research on this but I feel it’s going to be a big mistake. The vibe has completely changed and doesn’t seem to fit with the resort - it’s sad and very clearly just to make more money.
Amy — Google review
Wonderful small spa in a peaceful resort. There are well-equipped changing rooms and showers. The staff provides you with a robe and two towels, the check-in is very easy, the staff is super friendly. In the spa, there are five rooms (salt spa, soft humidity spa, another one which i think is aromatherapy and one 80-85 degrees hot spa). There is also an ice room which is helpful after a hot spa, it would be useful though to have more ice or cold temperature rooms available. There is an outdoor pool with warm water, and places to sit outside. You can also order drinks whilst enjoying the spa. It is super clean, and the time slots are of good length (i.e. 10am-1pm, 1.30-4.30pm). There's also the option to try/book the sound experience which i cannot comment on as I didn't try it. If you are in the area, I'd very much recommend this place.

I wanted to share my recent experience at this spa from this weekend. I used the toilet to start with, (hopefully not sounding too crude) once I finished my business, I pulled up my shorts and they were soaked in someone else’s urine. Yes, the floor was soaked in urine. The shorts were the ones I arrived in so I didn’t have any others to leave with. I decided to go to the help desk to complain. They were apologetic and agreed that the state of the toilets is unaccepted. I asked if they had anything I could wear, they decided to sell me a pair of shorts which weren’t expensive (£17) and gave me 50% off. They said 50/50 on the basis that I’m to share the blame of my experience. I didn’t kick up a fuss and paid the money, even though they should have taken full ownership. All of this is before I’d even stepped foot in the main facilities. The spa itself has lots of different rooms (steam and sauna), it’s a little small and it was frustratingly overcrowded. It took a good 30 minutes before my partner and I could even get into the pool. Lots of people drinking in the main pool which made the experience by far from relaxing. I had a bad experience and to be honest I would find it extremely hard to recommend anyone to visit this spa.

Went to the Y Spa 2 years ago and had a wonderfully relaxing time. Decided to go again on a Monday afternoon, unfortunately nowhere near the standard of our first visit. Incredibly overcrowded (we couldn’t get in the outdoor pool or have use of an outside lounger as these had all been reserved with dressing gowns). The food menu was also very limited at this time of day. A disappointing second visit and not sure we’ll be back based on this experience.

What a lovely place. From the interesting story of how it started, to the range of plants, how to grow your own, tour, and tasting session, it was good fun.( Lots better than I imagined). With a fun group too, it made it a memorable & highly positive experience. Tomas also gave us a special tour too with so much enthusiasm for chillis, grapes & more! Definitely worth the tour & tasting! Friendly, fun, and a great way to spend an hour or two!

Had a fantastic time on the ‘Cooking with chillies made simple’ workshop. The owners were very knowledgeable, open and friendly. There was plenty to do on the workshop and we had a lovely day out. All in all great experience and I learned a lot. They also sell chilli plants and sauces on site which is really handy, including their own home grown sauces from their own chilli harvest. I only wish I turned up sooner so I could relax in the café, not to worry as I’ll definitely be revisiting at some point.

I learned so much about different chilli varieties and how they’re grown. The tasting session was the real highlight though – so many amazing flavours and unique combinations to try. Everything was really well organised and the atmosphere was lovely. Highly, highly recommend visiting – it’s a fantastic day out and a real treat for foodies! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Loved it from beginning to end, deserves more than 5 stars ! Went on the chilli tasting tour for two. Shaun the owner gave us a very informative talk on how to grow chillies from seed, then we had a tour of the farm and picked our own chillies. After that we went into their shop, tried their huge range of sauces followed by chilli tasting, from mild to hottest in the world! After that we had some amazing food in the restaurant. Definitely going back.

Visited the Chilli Farm for afternoon tea and a tour of the chilli farm. Overall it was a great experience. Joanna who is the owner of the farm and our guide for the tour was really informative and has a real passion for chillies. After a short talk about the various variety of chillies, we had a sampling session in the cafe of various chillies, chilli sauces and marmalades, starting from the mildest up to the hottest…the Carolina Reaper! There was plenty of milk on hand should you need it! Afternoon tea was lovely, a variety of sandwiches all made with various chilli based sauces and marmalades. Would certainly recommend for an afternoon out.
