I've been visiting Tilgate Park for many years and always have an enjoyable walk, whatever the weather. The walled garden is well kept and always worth a visit. Bought a cake from the cafe to takeaway which was yummy and homemade; although it's not always open so best to check before visiting/ relying on it being open for lunch/ snacks. There are features to see around the park and there are activities if you want to do them. Generally a lovely place to explore
Gemma F — Google review
My family and I had a wonderful experience with dinosaurs in the park, and my children love it! Their playground was a nice to play and lovely view of Tilgate Park. Stall foods were there and ride as well. It is good and fun for the May half term bank holiday weekend. 🦕☀️😍

For every age groups there this park has a place for them . Whether you enjoy a dog walk or sit and view birds or ducks on the lake or play with kids . Cafe shops are good .

Great place to take the kids. Lots of cute animals. Staff in cafe/shop and zoo are ultra friendly and great with the kids. Everything very reasonable priced. Highly recommend....
Diane A — Google review
Massive grounds with something for everybody; lakeside and woodland walks, a zoo, children's play atea and a couple of cafes - we visited the walled garden cafe. The grounds are dog-friendly and there is plenty of space for families and picnics.
Debbie M — Google review
We stayed with family and they took us to this park. Beautiful park to visit and see. They had a dinosaur theme and fair, great for the kids. Definitely worth it if you’re in that area.
Satnam B — Google review
Gorgeous open spaces. Their playground is huge. Boats to go on the lake are severely over priced so avoided those. Lovely day out.

Cutty Sark

Mentioned on
+49 other lists
Maritime museum
Sights & Landmarks
The Cutty Sark is a famous London landmark located near the River Thames and part of the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site. This iconic ship, built in 1869, was once the fastest tea clipper and later transported wool from Australia. Named after a character in a Robert Burns poem, it sailed the London-China route in record time. The ship has been preserved as a museum since the 1950s, despite being severely damaged in a fire in 2007.
This is a great museum of a large ship that is somehow tucked right into Greenwich. It's in a great location too. It's not very often that you get to walk around the inside, and more uniquely, the outside of the lower hull, of a ship like this so it's well worth a visit.
Slibocker — Google review
Had a great time with family visiting cutty sark. We took the guided tour (free for members) and that really gave us great information about the boat and it's history. Fascinating. The guide was great. The audio tour was at 2pm. Worth the money. The boat is so impressive
Haroon S — Google review
What a beautiful ship and visit! Just seeing it from the outside surfing the glass canopy gave me chills. I'd love to see it in full sail although it's obviously not possible. Despite that just the masts and rigging are impressive enough. I took the day pass (£38 with access for the day to the Cutty Sark and Royal Observatory) but becoming a member may be a good alternative if you intend to view the exhibits (which are then free) at the Maritime museum or plan on doing the rigging climb (50% off). I'd also recommend using the app to get the free audio guided tour which really adds to the experience. I went on a mild weather Sunday in mid-September so it wasn't too busy. Given that the ship is quite narrow with a few exhibits, I suppose it may feel overcrowded at peak time. All is beautifully presented with a lot of interesting information be it about engineering or history. The indoor deck are well lit with nice exhibits and volunteers to answer your questions. The party piece is obviously being able to walk under the hull and admiring it's elegant, sleek and gleaming shape, what an experience ! I didn't get the chance to do the rigging climb this time but hope to do it at some point. Well worth a visit.
Christophe D — Google review
Really interesting historic boat that isn't about the military. The exhibit is in very good condition and eerily held up from the floor (for good reason as they explain) allowing you to walk under it which just feels weird?! Views are good from the top deck and some very informative videos and side panels throughout. Various ad hoc performances and offerings provided throughout the day (we did some rope making which the kids enjoyed), toilets are in good order, cafe available at the end and about a dozen lockers available for bags (need a £1 coin but you get it back). Really solid visit, would recommend but you will get it done in a couple of hours.
Chris ( — Google review
Learnt a lot about the history of the tea trade during the visit to the Cutty Sark. Helpful staff guiding you on the upper levels. Short film presenting a quick history of this majestic sailboat showing every 5 minutes. Helpful and entertaining kids activities spread out throughout. Toilets and cafe on the ground level.
Oana G — Google review
We had a great time exploring the Cutty Sark. There is a great short overview video when you arrive, followed by signs describing each area or item. My 12-year-old son enjoyed seeing the bunks, carpentry area and kitchen. I liked the cargo area and bow. It's easily done in under an hour, so definitely worth doing, especially with the beautiful park right outside.
Heather C — Google review
Lovely area to wander round. The maritime museum is free to enter, the Cutty Sark is £22. The grounds nearby and Greenwich Market are well worth a visit. Made for a lovely Sunday in the October sunshine.
Joanne S — Google review
Visiting this site was an absolute delight. The place is steeped in history, offering a fascinating journey through time, with every corner beautifully preserved to reflect its heritage. From the moment we arrived, it was clear how much care and dedication goes into maintaining this remarkable location. Our guide, Catherine, made the experience truly unforgettable. Her extensive knowledge brought each story and detail to life, and her courteous, engaging manner made the tour both educational and enjoyable. This is more than just a visit — it’s an immersive experience that leaves you with a deeper appreciation of history and culture.

Tulleys Farm

Farms
Tulleys Farm offers a delightful experience for both kids and adults. The farm features an animal patch and various entertainment options, allowing parents to relax at Tulleys Tea Room while the little ones are occupied. Visitors can enjoy a cozy atmosphere reminiscent of Christmas markets, although it's advisable to wear wellies or old shoes due to muddy conditions after rain. The farm boasts beautiful blooming flowers, particularly tulips, providing ample photo opportunities.
Visited this farm back in April and it was a wonderful experience, so beautiful seeing so many tulips of different species. It's a huge field full of plants. There is a shop and stalls selling drinks and food. The only negative aspect it's a very touristy attraction so it was a bit crowded. We visited during the weekend maybe during the week is better. Highly recommended.
Sónia M — Google review
Gorgeous day at the Tulip Fest in April. Got there very early whilst it was quiet and we were shocked by how massive it was and how much there was to do! The tulips were gorgeous and so impressive. Great food and information everywhere, friendly staff and lots to do and see!

Amazing Autumn Atmosphere! This pumpkin farm offers an absolutely amazing experience that goes far beyond simple pumpkin picking. The overall environment is welcoming, festive, and truly captures the spirit of the season. What truly elevates this spot is the phenomenal attention to detail in the spooky decoration. It's clear a huge effort was made to create a fun, slightly eerie atmosphere, providing fantastic photo opportunities at every turn. From hay bales to haunted props, the decor makes this the ultimate autumnal destination. The selection of gourds was plentiful, and the staff were wonderful. Highly recommended for a memorable, festive, and wonderfully creepy fall It was amazing 👏 I like the environment and spooky decoration!
Mahsa E — Google review
I went pumpkin picking, and it turned out to be the perfect autumn activity. The atmosphere was festive and full of Halloween spirit, making it a wonderful place to visit during the season. It was such a fun and memorable experience!
Jiwon K — Google review
Pleasant few hours spent picking pumpkins and toasting marshmallows with the kids. Most of the 'growing' pumpkins had already gone, but plenty more had been shipped in and were dotted around the field to select from. Lots of different varieties also available from the stores if you don't fancy pushing a wheelbarrow around the field! Didn't fancy the Ferris wheel, but probably provides great views if you don't mind heights.
Brent H — Google review
Decided to relive my teenage nostalgia and return to Shocktober for the first time in seven years. Previously it was the place to go and made for a tremendous experience. This time round, it's sadly lost its touch. Massively oversold and overcrowded, it's clear profit is put before experience whereas it once was the other way round. Thankfully I’d purchased some fast track in advance as queue times were obscene. Even still, I had to queue for 10/15 mins in fast track lanes at times. Pros -Purgatory was quality and my favourite of all time. "Free Roaming" actors like the Skinfluencers were very funny and entertaining. Set design was absolutely fantastic as always. Cons - Far too many people allowed into haunts at a time/with too little time between groups. You'd either be caught up by the group behind or catchup the one infront. This KILLED the immersion and enjoyment massively. The flouting of their own rules was not enforced? There are clear rules that say no smoking/vaping, no face masks etc yet I saw people lighting up in the queues and a fair few road men in their finest bin bag attire (to impress their underage girlfriend) walking round ballied up like they've just robbed a bank. I know it's close proximity to Crawley but come on now... Better still was “security” where only those with a bag would be searched. If you hadn’t a bag, you were free to walk in with whatever you fancied! Knife? Acid in a lucozade bottle? Drugs? Must be part of your costume eh lad. Maybe that’s a critique due to my line of work but it did feel a bit pointless. All in all a shadow of its former self. I still had fun however and glad I returned, but think this'll be the last trip full stop. Kudos to the actors and event staff, they all work hard and probably for minimum wage. Sadly I don’t think the experience will be salvageable unless they actually cap ticket numbers drastically.
Sam T — Google review
We had such a fantastic afternoon at Tulleys Farm. From the beautiful fall decor, the very large pumpkin patch, the roaming singers and cast in costume to the marshmellow roast stations (or smores station as they sell a kit too), pumpkin spice latte and ferris wheel we could only have a great time. We got to pick our own pumpkins straight from the patch and carry them in a wheelbarrow made available by the team who was nothing but welcoming. Can't carry big pumpkins home ? Fear not their collection of pumpkin plush toys will definitely call your name. If coming from London, you can either take the bus or more easily take a taxi as there are some available there just waiting to get you home safe. We will definitely make it a yearly tradition !

Shocktoberfest was excellent. Live bands, loads of scary things to do. The sacare mazes were great. Loads of different food stands and bars. The ste is absolutely huge, with a great atmosphere. We will definitely be going again.

Live music venue

Located in London, The O2 is a renowned arena that can accommodate up to 20,000 fans and hosts top concerts and elite sporting events. Situated at the Greenwich Peninsula in North Greenwich, it also features an expansive shopping outlet mall with over 60 shops offering significant discounts on a wide range of brands. The O2 is not only known for its entertainment events but also for its diverse shopping options, making it a must-visit destination for both music enthusiasts and avid shoppers alike.
We came for the Lady Gaga concert on October 2, 2025, and were pleasantly surprised. The crowd was huge, but security and entry were very efficient. The restaurants inside were great, and staff were super helpful. Last time I saw Gaga it was at a much bigger stadium, but honestly O2 was better — from the entrance, restaurants, and show to even the toilets, everything was smoother and nicer. I was here about 5–10 years ago, and the improvements are obvious. The new security scanners are especially convenient since you don’t need to take things out of your bag or pockets. Overall, the O2 Arena is an amazing venue. Highly recommend.
Shiwen D — Google review
We came for lady gaga. The venue is wild! Its an outlet shopping center, cinema and music venue and shopping center. Went to spoons for a quick plate of food and couple of drinks then into the event. It was well organised, the staff were efficient, loads of food and drink options when we got inside. Helpful staff to send us on our way to our seat. The viewing area is huge ( we ended up with great seats) . Lady gaga was great ( not usually a fan but I was a plus 1 for my girlfriend), the sound quality was nuts... could feel the base through my chest. Fast and efficient to get us all out too
Andrew M — Google review
Really like the concert venue. Easy to get to the venue & back as they move the crowd quickly & jubilee line very frequent after a show. Sound is pretty great & you get a great view from 410 section, if a bit far. As people had said it was steep, I was prepared but I didn’t actually think it was that bad & felt safe. Drink options are usual concert fare & prices (£9.80 for a beer). Lots of bathrooms and food / drinks options inside.
Tigershout — Google review
Personally I'm not a fan of arenas for gigs, usually the sound is rubbish compared to small venues. But the o2 has always sounded decent. As always ridiculous prices for drinks, but it's the same everywhere so you just expect it. Plenty of bars and restaurants outside the arena too. All in all a great venue
Jon T — Google review
This place is HUGE!! Good gosh. The place has several concerts going on in direct pockets or the humongous venue. So many different activities and a TON of shopping. I could spend a full week in there with zero compliant. There is so much to do and it truly is a good time for everyone. There's a Thai restaurant called Scarlet thats so delicious and authentic. To add, there's even more activities to do right outside including more shops, vendors, merry go rounds, viewpoints. Born away my first time going and ABSOLUTELY recommend checking this place out
Chelsea — Google review
Good visibility generally compared to some venues but if you are high up can be unsettling! Saw one person in the top section who wouldn't let go of a railing behind them even once sat down! Great Benson Boone concert with a surprise appearance by Brian May!
Trev W — Google review
Saw Benson Boone at the O2. Parking was excellent but pre book. Shops weryreally good too as we're the restaurants but advised to go in good time before your show S it gets busy. The arena is really good and seats are fine. Toilets are also good at the venue. Note of warning if you travel by tube and you have come out late after a show the queues for the tube are incredibly long!
Sophie C — Google review
The O2 Outlet Shopping Centre is a brilliant place to shop with so many good brands offering excellent discounts and deals. The prices are very competitive, and you can often find items much cheaper than on the high street. The atmosphere is modern and vibrant, making it enjoyable to walk around and explore. There is a great variety of shops covering fashion, footwear, lifestyle, and more, so it really has something for everyone. The staff in the stores are always polite and helpful, and the overall shopping experience feels convenient and pleasant. I highly recommend visiting if you want quality brands at great prices.

The Up at The O2 attraction allows visitors to walk on a path suspended 2 meters above the roof of The O2. With scenic views of London landmarks, this adventure is perfect for children and families.
We had an amazing time. It was a joint birthday and father's day climb. We went at 4pm and was very quiet. Emily the guide was wonderful. Very chatty and explains everything in the area with a comedic charm. Made some great memories. Would definitely recommend 👌 I forgot to do the waiver online so we had to fill in our details on a tablet before we could go in but was no bother as it was quiet so strongly suggest doing before

This was the best time of the year to go. Weather was perfect for the climb. Okay so you don’t get the best of views compared to the others- but the experience of the climb is worth it. All the staff were really friendly and welcoming and our guide Bee was excellent
M T — Google review
Finally did the O₂ sunset climb today and what an experience! The sunset looked gorgeous when I started, with the sky glowing softly over Greenwich. Going up was easier than I expected as the incline felt like walking up a hill, and the pace was comfortable. The guide was friendly, patient, and made sure everyone felt safe and confident. The view from the top was windy and peaceful, with the skyline lights starting to twinkle. It was not a blazing sunset by then, but a beautiful afterglow. The descent, though, was the real challenge! The 30° decline definitely tested my legs and balance, and I had to take it slow but the harness system felt secure the whole way. It takes some time to get use the harness system but once you crack it, its an absolute bliss. Overall, it’s a memorable experience, especially if you catch that golden light at the start. Perfect mix of mild adventure and city views. Would I do it again? Maybe mid next year to catch more of the sunset and avoid the wind. 🥶

I went to Up at the 02 on 29 October 2025. It was something I have wanted to do for a long time, as I had a Red Letter day voucher given as a present. When the day arrived, I felt nervous but excited to climb at Up at the 02. The two ladies staff members were so friendly when l went to the Base Camp before the climb. They showed me to a room where the Safety Briefing was and other people doing the climb came in the room. After we had watched a short video explaining the procedure, the Instructor Max introduced himself to us. He was so enthusiastic and friendly and had a great sense of humour. Even though it was raining, I felt safe with him instructing us all. He was very knowledgeable and gave interesting facts about London and the 02 during the climb and I really enjoyed the experience. After we had come back to the Base Camp, we were able to go to the Gift shop to look at the photos taken before and during the climb. I would recommend this to anyone. Thanks very much to Max for your kindness and help andall the staff at the 02. David

We had a brilliant experience doing Up at The O2. Our host Martin was fantastic — he explained all the safety information clearly, both with the video and in person, and made sure everyone understood how to use the harness and equipment without it feeling complicated. The staff were really welcoming from start to finish. They even provide coats if it’s cold or raining, which makes a big difference when the weather isn’t great. You’re able to use your phone when you reach the top, and they also take photos of you on the way up so you don’t miss capturing the moment. Even though it was raining during our climb, it was still a great day — definitely a memorable experience and one I’d recommend to anyone visiting London. I’d happily do it again!
Cameron N — Google review
Massively enjoyed our climb over the O2! Came for a 11am start on a Monday morning, had a lovely climbing team and the instructors were a great laugh! You enter left of the entrance and have a short introduction video, then you put your belongings in little crates (with number, words or pictures to identify after the climb) photos are taken at certain points and are extra charge and can be purchased from the gift shop after. I do sometimes suffer at a high but didn’t struggle at all with this as the floor was a good focus point and you can’t see any drops. The floor can be very bouncy and we went on a day with very minimal wind. All equipment is supplied as per of the experience, including shoes and gloves. Amazing views from the top and you get a good amount of time. I really didn’t expect music to be playing up there which made me giggle! Is pricey but worth it for a London bucket list ticket off! Found the decline more challenging than the incline! We completed our waivers on site, but can be completed beforehand.

Went there with my daughter for my birthday. If you love the london sky line you need to do this. Our guide was Arron and he knew his stuff. I'd avoid it if youve got dodgy knees or back probs as its alot steeper than you think and you still need to get down! But highly recommend this.
Nigel C — Google review
We decided to do the after dark tour up the O2. It was not as hard as you could think as the Incline gets easier the higher you get. Once on the top the view is great but you really only see Greenwich area as London proper is behind the downtown area. I would suggest doing the twilight tour as you would get the best of both worlds.

Such a cool experience, even for someone who's afraid of heights! We went during sunset and had the most amazing views of the O2 and beyond. You're in there securely and can pay for an around trip, which means you dont have to get off and on again. Worth the money.

The London Cable Car is truly one of the most unique and enjoyable experiences in the city. It offers a completely different perspective of London, with breathtaking views over the River Thames and the surrounding landmarks. It’s definitely worth trying at least once, whether you’re a tourist or a local looking for something special. The entire area is clean, well-organized, and easy to access, which makes the experience smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. The staff are friendly, professional, and always ready to help, adding to the overall pleasant atmosphere. The ride itself is calm and peaceful, making it a great choice for couples, families, or even a solo adventure. The views during the ride are simply stunning. For the price, we paid 7 pounds as an adult. Overall, this is an activity I highly recommend to anyone visiting London; it’s an unforgettable experience that combines relaxation, scenic beauty, and a touch of adventure.

The first time I went on a cable car trip in London was when it was still sponsored by Emirates, a few years ago. I went again yesterday and it's really fun (although maybe slightly less so if it's windy...) but the weather was great and the view was incredible. If you're visiting London this is a cool thing to do and only takes around 10 mins from Royal Victoria to North Greenwich.
Lily-Anne ( — Google review
The London Cable Car is a fantastic experience! The ride is smooth, safe, and offers breathtaking views across the Thames, Canary Wharf, the O2, and beyond. It’s easy to get to with great transport links, and the cabins are spacious and comfortable. Daytime rides give you sweeping panoramas, while at night the city lights make it magical. The ticket price is very reasonable compared to other London attractions, making it excellent value for money. Whether you’re a first-time visitor, a couple looking for something romantic, or a family wanting a fun activity, this is a must-do in London.

Bluebell Railway, located at Sheffield Park Station, offers a nostalgic experience with its 1880's station and heritage railway line. Visitors can admire steam engines on display, explore the museum, and browse the gift shop. The railway welcomes dogs with special canine tickets to board the old steam trains that run daily from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead. For those seeking a leisurely walk, taking the train to Horsted Keynes and then walking back across the fields is recommended.
A fantastic day out!! Our journey lasted about two hours and we had an amazing fish n chip lunch as part of our package. We travelled through beautiful countryside in a lovingly restored carriage behind a wonderful steam engine. There was lots more to do at Sheffield Park station including a cracking museum, the Steam Works with engines on display and loads of interactive stuff as well as a really good gift and model shop and a pub and coffee shop! A really great day out for all the family!
Giles K — Google review
We had a all day rider from a virgin experience and it was a brilliant day out. Just sit back and imagine yourself in the days gone by when steam locomotives were everywhere. The amount of work that has gone into the restoration of the trains and stations is unbelievable. Everything has been built, designed and styled perfectly. Even the staff were dressed in immaculate period clothing. The trains looked great and sounded great. We went from Sheffield park to east Grinstead and went to town for lunch. On the way back you can get off at all the stations and explore the stations, picnic areas, museums and buildings. Sheffield park seems to be the main one and had a lovely museum. The day is what you make it. If you just want the ride the fine but if you explore a bit further then you will discover so much history. The pulling coaches looked so stylish. Halloween and Xmas events are in the diary.

My Partner treated me to this most amazing birthday surprise. I have to say from the moment we arrived at the Bessemer Arms we were greeted by the staff, who were all dressed in their black & white tuxedo very smart. So friendly, polite, professional & very hard working. Serving Prosecco & Canapés in the pub to begin. Followed by heading outside to the steam train were we took photos. Then it was all aboard & I have to say, I was taken aback by it all the carriages were absolutely stunning, from dark wood, brass coat hooks & handles that's without the most comfortable seats. Dinner was also served by the same staff in the Bessemer Arms. I totally enjoyed our roast beef meal & dessert 5* fine dinning. Not forgetting the train driver of course. However most of all if you are looking for something special for a loved this is it, highly recommend. My partner also booked added extras nice bottle of their own wine, a golden arrow pen & beautiful card.

We did the Fish & Chips Train Ride last night and it was absolutely fantastic. From the moment we arrived at Sheffield Park Station, the atmosphere was full of charm: beautiful vintage carriages, friendly volunteers and the lovely smell of steam in the air. The ride itself was peaceful and scenic, with gorgeous views of the Sussex countryside. The fish and chips were hot, crispy and really hit the spot. We also enjoyed a sweet treat and tea afterwards, all served at our table while the train gently rocked along the tracks. The whole experience felt relaxed, well-organized and really special. A perfect mix of nostalgia, good food and great company. I highly recommend this event for a unique evening out. 🚂🍽️✨

Lovely afternoon steaming through the beautiful countryside and enjoying autumn and its rainbows. Helpful and knowledgeable staff, all volunteers. Had lovely toasted fruit loaf and latte at the converted railway carriage in East Grinstead, again, friendly staff. All ages represented and they need more volunteers. Most places dog-friendly including the train ride.

Old MacDonald's Farm & Fun Park

Outdoor Activities
Old MacDonald's Farm & Fun Park is a charming and quaint farm that offers more than just the usual petting zoo experience. It features a variety of animal-themed fairground rides, including a rollercoaster, as well as animatronic shows and indoor and outdoor play areas. In addition to classic farm animals like goats, donkeys, and pigs, visitors can also meet alpacas, wallabies, owls, and other exotic creatures.
We visited Old MacDonald’s Farm with our two children (aged 4 and 2), and it was such a fantastic day out! The last time we came was just before my son turned one, and he was a little too young to appreciate the full experience, so I can honestly say the experience this time was so much better. Both kids absolutely loved the rides – which I think is one of the best things about this farm. You don’t just get to see and interact with the animals (which they also enjoyed), but there are so many rides (some of which are even suitable for babies) and outdoor play areas that kept them fully engaged. It really does offer something for everyone. There were plenty of opportunities to meet the animals (we did the rabbit encounter), and we were lucky to catch the summer circus too – my children really enjoyed that. The staff stood out as well; everyone we met was so kind and friendly, which made the experience even nicer. On top of that, there are indoor soft play areas for rainy days, but we had sunny, warm weather so the kids made the most of the outdoor climbing frames and slides. We visited from 10am until 3pm, but honestly, you could easily spend the whole day here until closing. My tip would be to arrive early: start with the animals and then move on to the rides once they open at 11am. A brilliant family day out – we’ll definitely be back!
Suraiya T — Google review
Fantastic day out with toddlers. If you can on a weekday in term time you can go on all the rides multiple times as practically no queues! The set up is also very walkable with animals and rides and playgrounds interspersed ergonomically. They have a great variety of animals who seem happy and healthy. It's a little pricey, but it feels worth it to give money to a nice farm. I wish their food options were healthier - especially the snacks (having some fruit on offer for the kids would be helpful!)

We visited as a family with our three girls and had such a fantastic day! There was so much to do — from seeing the animals to enjoying the rides and fun activities. Everything was really well organised, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The girls especially loved the pumpkin patch and all the little details that made the day extra special. We’ll definitely be coming back again soon! 🎃🐮

Incredible place Got there at 10:30am and received an informative welcome from reception I was happily surprised that it was not very busy . I was apprehensive about how many rides my daughter who is nearly two could go on and yet out of everything available she only missed out on 5 attractions. I love how detailed the park was and that there was just so many things to keep kids entertained for hours . Cafe was really good with large portions of food that was not salty but full of flavour. Staff loved interacting with the kids ,were really polite ,enthusiastic and took pride in their jobs. Overall Very very good value for the money and 100% worth it Will be definitely visiting again hopefully with a party of family members.

This is a fantastic place to bring your child! My little one is under 2 years old, so the free admission is a big plus. Everything is well organized, and there's the convenience of being able to eat inside. As expected from places like this, the food is more on the quick side, but it's surprisingly tasty. I've visited twice already and will definitely be coming back. One of the standout attractions is the circus – it’s a wonderful source of entertainment for both kids and adults alike. I recommend this place !
Chris M — Google review
A complete package of thrill, fun and exploration for the little explorers. The farm themed park has a lot to offer starting with family friendly yet thrill rides that little ones can’t simply resist. My little one enjoyed doing the happy horses, train ride and crazy barnyard ride - of of them couple of times. It has got a decent softplay area too right at the entrance, along side the cafe and icecream bars. The animated shows run throughout the day at the show barns and the adventure playgrounds are quite massive and located at the centre of the park. There’s one little explorers playground as well with lots or animal sheds nearby offering seating areas. My little daughter couldn’t only do the doggy roller coaster as the ride closed at 4pm only strictly, but for next time sure. We had an unmissable and unforgettable adventure time her in this park in Brentwood, for sure.

Returned for our annual.years Halloween visit. Bit disappointed to find the Halloween walk through bit was closed off however realised upon checking that we were a day early. Decided to make the most of it and enjoy the rides. Took some really lovely Halloween photos of my girls lots of perfect back drops and props available throughout the park Staff were lovely especially the man on the train ride. Staff on both coffee stations were friendly and my daughter's both enjoyed a delicious custom made hot chocolates in after eight and unicorn. Animals looked happy and with plenty of space to roam around. It was lovely to see the pig foraging for plants and eating on the grass. Two lovely carousels, a rollercoaster and several other rides plus the staff make this place a really fun day out for all the family We will return

Lovely day out, we visited Old McDonald Farm with the kids to experience the Halloween Festival, we have been coming here for years but not on Halloween . Brilliant day, so nice to visit a park with just an entry fee and when you enter all rides are included, shows and activities, no hidden extras. Kids had a brilliant day, even the adults too, the kids also received a free pumpkin each. Some of the children in our family were sick, the staff at Old MacDonald Farm were brilliant - even offered to move to a different day so the kids don’t miss out (for a small fee) . Well done Old MacDonald Farm, we will definitely be coming back again !!!!

Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker

Mentioned on

Sights & Landmarks
Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker is a large underground facility in Essex, offering self-guided tours and housing a Cold War history museum, canteen, and ropes course. The bunker also hosts ghost hunts, with reports of eerie experiences in the disused underground service tunnels. Originally an RAF air defense station turned regional government headquarters during the Cold War, it is now open to the public for exploration.
I found the visit to be immensely enjoyable. The price of admission was reasonable, although I would recommend taking some cash as there are drinks in certain places that you can buy. If you are interested in photography, be aware that there is a waiver to sign and a £5 charge. I am OK with this, especially as I am not a commercial photographer, but do note it. The audio wands are helpful and informative and there is a wealth of useful information provided. I took a good few hours going through and I would not mind coming again.
Andrew H — Google review
I recently visited Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker, and it was a truly moving and one-of-a-kind experience. The serene, rural setting creates an eerie yet captivating atmosphere that sets the tone from the start. The statues outside are powerful and instantly put the realities of nuclear war into perspective. The underground bunker itself, a three-storey Cold War installation built beneath a seemingly normal bungalow, is exceptionally well preserved. The handheld audio guides brought history to life, allowing us to feel what it was like to be one of the 600 personnel stationed here during a crisis. The self-guided tour is easy to follow, and the exhibits, ranging from plotting rooms and military communications equipment to air‑filtration systems, cover the site’s full history comprehensively. The canteen at the end was a pleasant surprise; friendly staff, interesting souvenirs, and refreshments capped off the visit nicely. Beyond its historical significance, the bunker is a stark architectural marvel, set 125 ft underground, connected by a 100‑yard reinforced tunnel, and encased in 10‑foot thick concrete. Overall, the visit was informative, poignant, and thoughtfully organized. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Cold War history or unique hidden landmarks, this remains the most impressive and immersive site of its kind that I’ve encountered.
Kevin W — Google review
Step back in time at Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker! The captivating hand-held audio tour immerses you in the fascinating history of this hidden gem, and there is even a tour for kids with some sort of interaction but I don’t know how that worked as my wife said I was too old to do that. Perfect for history buffs , as it contains details of all the past lives of the bunker, realistic recreations of the areas inside and themed sounds to provide detail to the atmosphere. The experience concludes with a reasonably priced gift shop and cafeteria. Unearth the secrets of Kelvedon Hatch with friends and family for an unforgettable adventure! Parking is widely available, but I do recommend you dress for cold weather as it does get chilly down there.
Graham R — Google review
Had the best time here. It's honestly amazing what they have been able to show. It's closest us normal civis will get to seeing what the best the government could offer at a time like that.
Curtis G — Google review
We really enjoyed visiting the Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker and highly recommend it. Both kids and adults found it fascinating. Once inside, mobile phones lose signal, which makes the atmosphere even more eerie and immersive. At times it honestly felt like being a character in a movie about the end of humanity. Built in the 1950s during the Cold War, the bunker lies 125 feet underground and was designed to shelter hundreds of government officials – even the Prime Minister – in the event of a nuclear attack. Everything was so well prepared that people could survive here for years: there is a hospital, rest rooms, living quarters, and even a BBC broadcast studio ready to go on air. Walking through the corridors, you really sense how seriously life underground was planned. And yet, there are also some unintentionally funny details. In the room supposedly meant for the Prime Minister (the mannequin suggests Margaret Thatcher), we didn’t see a kettle – a must-have in Britain – but there was a bottle of wine on the bedside table. Very thoughtful indeed! 😄 A unique museum that perfectly combines history, atmosphere, and a touch of dark humor – definitely worth a visit. Practical notes: there is free parking, and admission for four of us was about £36 (likely a family ticket). Photography inside costs an extra £5, payments are made on exit. At the end of the tour, there’s a small souvenir shop and a café. I’d also recommend bringing some cash just in case, since mobile signal doesn’t work inside
Snejana F — Google review
It's a privately owned and run affair so perhaps not as polished as some 'museums' but for all that it's fantastic- it tells a fascinating story and quite an experience.

Drusillas Park in Alfriston, just off the A27, offers a fantastic family experience with a variety of attractions for visitors of all ages. The park features a zoo with animals like camels, red pandas, alpacas, otters, sloths, meerkats and snakes. There are interactive displays and feeding times to engage with the animals.
I would definitely recommend this place. It’s an ideal spot for children — with a variety of animals, a playground, and water fun, it’s a complete package! Although the price might feel a bit high for people like me, it’s still a great place to spend the whole day enjoying with your family and kids. It would be even better if the ticket price were a little lower.

Great day out for the kids. The play area at the end will keep them entertained for most the day. A lot of fun activities through the zoo walk. Only down side is prices are ridiculously high for entry and food would advise taking a packed lunch for the day.

From the Zoo, the theme park, or the large play area which is split between over and under 5s, there is plenty to do for all the family. And don't worry if you get tired because you can relax in there many restuarant/cafe areas. A great day for all and we cannot wait to return in the near future!

Went on a group home education booking, which made it affordable. Spent about 5 hours here with 4 children ranging from 3-12yrs and they all had a fantastic time. This was in spite of the fact it was pouring when we got there. There are things to do when its raining, which was a relief. The time spent in the Discovery room was excellent, the leader was brilliant with the children.

Had a great time at Drusillas when we went with the whole family. There is so much to do there with the zoo, rides and the play park. Food is reasonably priced but you can always bring a picnic (I still recommend getting their donuts!). They do have a water area so you can bring some swimming clothes and go play in the water park. The rides aren’t Alton Towers or Thorpe Park type rides but perfect for the little ones.

EXCELLENT day out!!! Perfect for our 5 year old, animals, dinosaurs, rides, play areas, splash zone, soft play... What more could you want! It had a great balance of everything, an excellent and reasonably priced gift shop, lots of picnic areas / benches. We were there the whole day 10am - 6pm and could have been longer, very tempted to buy an annual pass even though we live an hour away. Great day out!

👉 Great fun for little ones up to 12 years old, in my opinion. It’s a nice and tidy park. I visited years ago, back when Thomas the Tank Engine was the main attraction.

Buy your tickets online the night before and then you are set for a good family day out. The zoo has plenty of scope and then you reach the play park. For the very young spend an extra £3 to visit Spark playground. Otherwise there's soft play, a water park or climbing frames. The train and most rides are free. We took our own food to keep the cost down.

Shorne Woods Country Park, located near Gravesend in Kent, offers a perfect family day out with its 288 acres of woodlands, lakes, wetlands, and meadows. The park features a visitor centre, cafe for takeaways, picnic and play areas, sensory garden, orienteering activities, fishing lakes, and a trim trail. Families can explore the marked paths through the rolling woodlands and enjoy various outdoor activities such as cycling on designated paths.
Shorne Woods is my dog’s favorite park! The stunning woodland is perfect for walks, and Ralph loves exploring every corner. There’s also a lovely café and a wood-fired pizza place, which is such a treat in the summer. The park offers paid parking and is wheelchair-friendly, making it accessible for everyone. It’s a popular spot, so make sure to arrive early on busy days to secure a good parking spot.

Large play area and many really nice spots for a picnic.

Overall, Shorne Woods Country Park is a gem in Kent, It's a perfect destination for a stroll, surrounded by natural beauty.

We visited Shorne Woods for a relaxing day out with our dogs, and it was absolutely beautiful. The park is well maintained, full of peaceful trails, lush greenery, and lovely open spaces where our pups had a great time walking and exploring. The car park is large, with plenty of spaces for disabled visitors, and very reasonably priced (£4.90 for the whole day). You can pay easily using the RingGo, PayByPhone, or ParkBuddy apps, which is super convenient. It was especially heartwarming to see how well our senior dog managed the walk, she seemed to know the place, almost like she'd been there before in another life! Our younger pup was full of energy and loved the areas where dogs are allowed off lead. The only downside to our visit was the café experience. Unfortunately, the service was not very friendly. The young staff seemed a bit uninterested and dismissive, which was disappointing. With such a beautiful setting, a warm welcome would make the experience complete. Still, we truly loved the park itself and would absolutely return, perhaps with a picnic next time!
Cary Z — Google review
Lovely stunning windy and wide paths, dosabled electric buggies are available to reserve. 3 types of playground, mot far from the car park. Theres lakes with lilly pads, and fishing is allowed. Exciting adventures walk for dogs. It is a vast park. I used to live in walking distance to it, so visited it all the time. Now I've moved, I've not been so frequently, and rediscovered it yesterday. The parking is super expensive, in my opinion. Disabled parking is not free either. They do have a lovely cafe on site and a pizza shack. Its definitely worth a visit if you can fork out £4.30 for parking on a weekend. £3.30 on weekdays. We've arrived an hour and a half before closing time and we still had to purchase the parking day ticket.
Anna H — Google review
A great place for an interesting woodland wander. There is a large car park which costs £3 for the day. Very reasonable. There are a few choices of way marked paths. There are some amazing trees, bodies of water, carvings and more to see as you explore.
Feizal M — Google review
Was passing through and decided to park up, have a quick stretch & get some food/coffees. There was no option for shorter parking so £4.50 for a brisk stretch in the rain was overpriced. Having ordered a couple of simple sausage baguettes & 2 coffees, we were constantly hearing loud shrieking & yelling from a group of uncontrolled youth in the kitchen! The Manager had no control over these kids, especially the girl!! and having told them once should have been enough, but no, it was constant and very annoying, and his actions was not strong enough to deter them. Poor management, the kids certainly ruled the kitchen/cafe !! :( would NOT revisit nor recommend. It detracted off what we were hoping to be an enjoyable little visit.

Visitors can explore the 14th century moated castle and enjoy scenic trails through the estate. The surrounding area also boasts charming village shops, dining options, and other attractions such as Sissinghurst Castle's gardens.
Beautiful scenery and gardens, lots to see in the castle grounds and the House is amazing. From the house to the castle is a little downhill uphill challenging for those with walking issues but it is worth it! Plenty of seating/benches dotted around if you need a little rest and plenty of seating in the food area. We had a very enjoyable time.

Beautiful castle with nice gardens you can walk around. Lots of seating areas outside along with benches to sit on as you walk around. There are public toilets a book shop a souvenir shop and ice cream stall along with lots of parking and knowledgeable staff members in different rooms of the house to answer any questions.

Amost interesting place, so much to see...and lovely walks around estate. Walled garden in car park full of colour and some pumpkins. Hexagonal in shape and easy to walk around. Inside house reflective of being lived in and each room had costumes on display as worn by previous owners which reflects alot of achieved acquisitions not normally seen. Walk to ruin castle steep but rewarded by good views. Dont miss boat house if you are sandman fans as thus part of estate was cain and ables home! 40 min lake walk good path and easy 2 mile walk. Quarry quirky where stone for building house came from. Dont miss cat on fountain at back of house.... We thought grounds better than sissinghurst. Oh yes no toilets at bottom of hill by ruin. So make sure you go at top!! The painting in dining room of dwarves Hunting worth a muse and comment as so unusual in any old property . Volunteers most tolerant of me telling them about sandman as not many knew much about it!! Last tip house/ castle/ grounds all shut at different times so check if going for pist lunch visit.

Scotney Castle is simply one of the most beautiful and unique National Trust properties in Kent, offering far more than a typical castle experience. It is a true triumph of landscape design, centered around two distinct periods of history. The absolute highlight is the romantic, 14th-century moated ruin of the Old Castle, which sits dramatically in the valley bottom. The views as you descend through the sloping gardens towards the moat, especially in autumn and spring, are breathtaking and perfectly exemplify the "Picturesque" style. It’s fascinating to learn that the ruin was deliberately created in the 1830s to serve as the ultimate centrepiece for the landscape. Overlooking the valley is the Victorian mansion (the "New Castle"), a warm and engaging family home filled with eclectic collections. Taking a tour gives you a real sense of the Hussey family's life, from their collection of objects to fun details like the secret door in the library. Beyond the buildings, the 780-acre estate offers wonderful woodland walks, a productive walled kitchen garden, and a fascinating Quarry Garden.

We love visiting Scotney Castle with its beautiful house and dramatic looking castle in the valley down below! First stop though of course is always the cafe for a lovely breakfast snack and drink. Upon entering the property, all staff members were excellent at telling us anything there was to know about each room with their vast knowledge. We then took a walk around the grounds enjoying the scenery and views of the castle. We would always return and recommend anyone to visit! It may be recommended to book parking, as we found out upon arrival that without prior arrangement you have to park in the additional parking section.

This a beautiful Victorian mansion house with views over an even more beautiful estate that leads down to a ruined medieval castle. There was a real bounty of flowers at this time of year and the flowers in the walled garden were spectacular. Nice cafe, shop and second hand bookstore. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful and incredibly well maintained gardens. We were lucky that we had free passes from the paper otherwise it would be very pricey. We used public transport and the bus service is hugely patchy, the access guide will say there are footpaths but there are several quite scary bits of 50mph country road. It is possible to do it via public transport but you must time everything around the bus. After 1pm the next one was at 5:15pm

A really excellent place to visit. The gardens are extensive and somehow very relaxing. We visited over the summer when there was a Summer of Play area for the kids. Perfect for play, picnics and chilling. The house was almost something out of an Agatha Christie novel. It actually had a very gentle, warm vibe. It was nice to see the drinks selection in the library! You felt it must’ve been a fun house once upon a time. Some of the rooms - particularly the bedrooms - almost felt too personal for comfort. I felt almost like I was snooping round some elderly relative’s house at times. Nonetheless, a very interesting place to visit.

Promenade Park in Maldon is a fantastic spot for a day out, especially if you're looking to enjoy both green space and a bit of seaside charm. The park sits right by the water, with a small beach area that’s perfect for a paddle or just soaking up some sun. There are plenty of walking tracks that wind through the park. The open grassy areas are great for picnics, ball games, or simply stretching out with a good book. You’ll find a decent selection of food stalls, especially during weekends and events, offering everything from ice cream to tasty hot meals. Plus, with several pubs nearby, there’s no shortage of options for a proper sit-down meal or a refreshing drink. Public toilets are available and well-maintained, which is always a plus on a longer visit. Whether you're with family, friends, or just enjoying some solo time, Promenade Park has something for everyone. A great blend of nature, water, and local charm.

We visited the park in late September 2025. We were on a weekend glamping trip with our family, including the grandchildren. The park was lovely for the kids, as there is plenty to do and it wasn't too busy. There is good parking and we had no trouble finding a spot.

A beautiful waterside park with many attractions, plenty of places to eat and lots of seating, a huge field for picnics and shady avenues of trees. If you can get here early in the morning as the sunrises, you’re in for a treat.

The prom is one of my all time favourite places. However as I no longer live in Maldon we have to drive and today we wanted a quiet grassy spot and we knew the far end of one of the main fields would do the trick after having to leave previous venue just before 5pm. We wanted to be there about 3 hours so we could gently sort out tea and eat it. You are talking 5.30pm to 8.30pm. I expected to pay fair enough but £8 for 3 hours parking on a Sunday evening is too much. If it was upto £5 we would of happily used and their would be a 5 star review. I do also think £8 for a full day is fair.

Old Leigh Studios Gallery is a small but well-maintained art gallery that displays work by local potters, including Richard Baxter and Julie Saunders. The artists' studios are located nearby in Old Leigh, which makes it a great place to visit if you're looking for some beautiful ceramics to take home. There are plenty of eating options nearby as well, so make sure to stop by on your way down town.
Beautiful ceramics, art, cards, and jewellery. A great place to browse and buy high-quality affordable pieces from local makers. Owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. One of my favourite places in Leigh.

Battle Abbey

Battle Abbey is a captivating medieval site that serves as a reminder of the historic 1066 battle. Founded around 1067, it was intended to atone for the bloodshed and establish a lasting symbol of William's triumph. The abbey features an interactive exhibition, a film about the pivotal event, and an engaging audio guide narrated by historian David Starkey. Children particularly enjoy the mobile phone-like audio guides and indoor center with interactive displays.
We had a great visit. Plenty of information at the start and we used the audio guide for more info around the area. We were lucky to visit on a really sunny day. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. One of the top attractions I've been to in England. Highly recommend for a great day out!
Tee M — Google review
Battle Abbey was built on the site of the Battle of Hastings. Managed by English Heritage, it's worth getting an annual membership for entry, and free parking nearby. (Use your membership card to validate the parking. The entrance to the site is through the main gate house. Once inside, you can see an independent school which uses some of the rebuilt buildings. There is a footpath made of small pebble chippings, and it's not too difficult to walk on. The footpath around the site is quite lengthy; however there are quite a number of benches along the longest section, so it's not too bad for those with reduced mobility. There is a great cafe, and an exhibition room just a short distance from the gatehouse. There are both inside and outside tables, excellent food and drink, and some very clean toilets. The footpath that runs along the rear of the site allows you to look down the hill towards the area where the Norman forces lined up before charging up the hill to attack the Saxon shield wall, just a short way back from the footpath. It looks quite steep, and it must have been an extremely challenging attack, even for fit and healthy soldiers. There are a number of buildings that were part of the Abbey that visitors can enter. Only a few have any information, but it's still worth exploring to help understand what life might have been like. It's also possible to see the site where it is believed an altar was constructed as part of the initial Abbey buildings, to commemorate the death of Harold Godwinson by William the Conqueror. I would advise asking for one of their audio guide units; they are very easy to use, and provide some really valuable insight that supplements the many signboard. I found it to be a truly interesting and enjoyable visit, despite the rather bad weather.

We used the audio guide which enhanced an enjoyable visit to the abbey. They show a 10 min film in the visitor center which helps to understand the layout of the grounds and where the battle was fought. We thought the shop had a lot of nice items but was put off buying anything by the high prices. Dogs are allowed access to all areas.

Came here without much expectations. And were suprised by the size of the grounds, all the buildings and all the things to discover. We've spent many hours here in the end. A real highlight on this years Road Trip through the UK. Parked right next to on the official carpark. Fixed price of 4£ was a fair deal (free for members). We bought tickets online before and there was next to no wait to enter. The Battle of Hastings, fought on 14 October 1066, is one of the best-known events in England’s history, when William of Normandy defeated the army of King Harold of England. William the Conqueror founded Battle Abbey. The abbey thrived as a Benedictine monastery for over 400 years, and after its suppression in 1538 the abbot’s lodging was transformed into a grand country house. Exploring the Abbey is a great and fun thing to do. There's so much history to read and to take in here. You can go to the top as well, enjoying the views. Or go explore every corner there is - you might find the old toilet here as well (it's named "garderobe"). After enjoying history at the Abbey we walked on the grounds. Checking out the Ice and Dairy House, the King Harold and High Altar Memorial and the Crypt. And a quick look at the walled garden. Then went onto the Battelfield. If you don't have an audio guide, you still can read all the info plates along the way. Really well done and informative. And the walk around the battlefield is a pretty one. With some wildlife as well. We did have our Bulldog with (and a pet stroller) without problems. Just the first section has some steps, after that it's pretty stroller-friendly. Then in the end we've visited the old Abbey ruins. Again: very impressive architecture. We had a great day here. There's so much to see and to do. Of course there's also a shop, a restaurant, a food truck and toilets. Some games for kids as well. A fantastic visit. And surely not to be missed. A must-do.
Alex H — Google review
A lovely place to visit with a good climb up to the top of the gatehouse for nice views. A good little playground to keep the kids happy and a few picnic benches in the shade to enjoy lunch. The walk around the battle ground is easily done in 40 minutes with information boards around.
Karl T — Google review
Fantastic place, really well laid out with a fantastic audio tour. We visited on a slightly damp day so the ground was slightly muddy and the sheep on the field added some minor obstacles in the form of poo! You can cut that out by doing the short walk but the full battlefield tour is worth it if you can handle it Parking is pretty good and it's free for English Heritage/CSSE members (English Heritage members scan their card on way out/CSSE members get a receipt at the entrance to use) Cafe to the left of the entrance is great, lovely hot chocolate and latte! Toilets at the cafe are the only ones on site so go before you walk...or join the sheep al fresco!

I haven't been here since I was a kid and brought my 9 year old as he is fascinated by history. It's amazing. The guides are friendly and very knowledgeable, we were able to tour the abbey itself which is a rare event so we dropped very lucky and Taskmaster (the TV show) had taken over the gardens with some fun and very silly games that all the kids we saw seemed to enjoy a great deal. My son loved the games, the tour and was very touched to see the Harold Stone - all in all a glorious day out and well worth the drive from Bognor (via West Yorkshire - we were on holiday from Leeds!) to take in the site.

I visited Battle Abbey with my daughter, who is passionate about history. We explored one of East Sussex's best-preserved castles, featuring medieval currency layouts, weaponry, and the vital gift presented to the monks living in the Abbey during the 1500, along with notable elements related to the Battle of Hastings, which took place in 1066 between William, Duke of Normandy, leading the Norman-French forces, and the English army led by King Harold Godwinson.

Located in Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex, the De La Warr Pavilion is an iconic Modernist building dating back to 1935. This historic site offers a variety of attractions including contemporary art exhibitions, a dining area, bar, and shop. The pavilion has hosted renowned artists such as Andy Warhol and Cerith Wyn Evans and also features an auditorium that has seen performances by music legends like Bob Marley and Elvis Costello.
Lovely café with a great selection of freshly baked cakes and really good coffee. The sea view from the seating area is amazing – such a nice place to sit and relax. Prices are very reasonable, and everything we tried was fresh and delicious. Staff were friendly, efficient, and made us feel welcome. Highly recommend if you’re visiting the De La Warr Pavilion!

I love the De La Warr Pavillion. From the art exhibitions to the live music, festivals and the café. It’s by far my favourite seaside haunt. After an afternoon at the beach, it’s a must for a coffee and cake. The range of homemade gluten-free and vegan cakes is outstanding. My particular favourite is the gluten-free brownie. The staff are always kind and polite, too. Thank you for so many wonderful times beside the sea.

Visited here to watch a live music event... Easy to find, right on the seafront and a fairly decent car park. It was very busy and we were crammed in.... A nice bar on the 1st floor with a good range of alcoholic and soft drinks. Good sized stage for the size of the building and the standing area was large... Upstairs is the seated area, a balcony arrangement and here is where the venue lets itself down.... The area is very small and the seats are extremely cramped and uncomfortable.... No room for knees and the person sat in the row down from you, blocks the view to the stage. Aircon would be a great addition to this venue. Outside - outside is a lovely area, views out to sea with a paved and grassed area and an outside balcony on the 1st floor is great.

Lovely place inside, we had a function on the roof terrace and despite the stormy weather the views are great. There was a shop selling vinyl and an art exhibition. It looks like there are a few shows on and films are shown outside

The DLWP is a magnificent venue, offering so much to the area. Its auditorium hosts concerts, plays and stand up comedians. The galleries host a variety of different exhibitions through the year. And the cafe, with a terrace overlooking the sea, is just wonderful. The staff are polite and helpful and the food is varied and very good. One of my favourite places…

The pier is a well-known landmark in Southend-on-Sea and is home to a museum with displays of historic railway cars, slot machines and costumes from the early 19th century to the early 20th. The pier also has an electric train that takes you all the way to the end, where you can find a lifeboat centre, cafe and shop.
I love piers, and Southend Pier was a fun experience to walk. It is the longest pier in the world, and the fact that it's on the Thames and not the sea, makes it even more unique. I wanted to return with the pier train, but due to its low frequency, I decided to walk the return as well. The view, whether with high or low tide is amazing, and all in all, a great day out from London in less than a hour away.
Guy A — Google review
I visited the pier when the remembrance poppies were there, a magnificent display. Although the walk back up the pier was long the best part of the experience was the railway museum. I do feel like the pier is missing attractions, there's a lot of seating but nothing to do.
Emily E — Google review
Worth the money! It was lovely to experience the train up to the end of the pier. Lovely views from there. Plenty of seats to sit down, a restaurant that serves food and drink. There was a DJ playing by the bar area, which sounded good. The only thing negative is that it wasn't very well organised when waiting for the train and the staff were abit grumpy. Coming back our door wouldn't open but no one was there waiting for the train to arrive back so a few of the passengers had to false it open.
T R — Google review
Very nice pier. It's over a mile long(!) We walked up and got the train back and it was £20 for a family of four. There are shops and cafes at the end but are very expensive. Great views from the pier itself.

Walked on the longest pleasure pier in the world (2.14km). Then we took the "spirited-away-like" train back to the shore. Will not forget such memory.
Moody M — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) Southend Pier was a good experience overall not amazing, but still enjoyable. The walk along the pier was peaceful and offered some lovely views. I took the train back, which felt like stepping into the past it has a charming 1940s-style look that gives it a unique character. What stood out most was the contrast in atmosphere. The pier has a calm, laid-back vibe, but once you head back toward the Adventure Island side, it suddenly feels like a completely different world ,busier, louder, and more energetic. It’s an interesting mix of tranquillity and fun. Worth a visit if you’re in the area!

We visited on the first day of our week holiday. We went for the annual pass as the children will want to visit again and the pass also gets discounts for food, shop etc. We are now on day 3 and going again! Well worth the money! The queues are very quick, we could wait nearby and see them in the queue for the majority of the rides. I wanted to go on a couple of rides so bought some ride tickets separately (no need for a day or annual pass for me 🤣)
Emma S — Google review
VISIT DATE: SAT 20/09/2025 VISIT TIME: 13:30 - 20:00 Adventure Island is a fantastic place to visit if you have children and are in the Southend area. We’re based in Hornchurch, about an hour away by car, or you can also travel quite easily via C2C from Upminster, so my ex and I have visited a number of times with our daughter, starting when she was 3 (she’s now 6). The park promotes itself as free entry, but no one is going to come just to walk through it, so the reality is that you’ll need to get a day pass to take advantage of the rides. At time of writing, it’s £35 for the day, but you can save £10 by purchasing online in advance. If you’re planning to go more than once, then it makes sense to upgrade to an annual pass. These are currently on sale at £50 and do not start until the first time you go. If your child is under 120cm tall, you won’t need your own pass, as they need someone taller (and at least 14 years old) to ride with them. As you’d expect, during the summer, or on character event days, the park is very busy, so there are queues for rides, but going off season reduces this dramatically. We were really blessed with a quiet day, so barely any queuing time, all rides open, with the exception of one, which was closed due to a mechanical issue and the park and rides were open till 8pm. It was also a warm day - being inside the park means that you are sheltered from the wind coming off the Thames Estuary, so even when it’s breezy, you don’t really feel it. There are a variety of rides, with plenty of slower ones for younger children, or those who don’t like faster stuff. Oh these, we really like Adventureville and Spooksville (which is the “scary” version, in darkness and with models of monsters and clowns, as well as appropriate sound effects), and you’ve also got stuff like little trains and boats and the best Crooked House ever, which has been an attraction on the site since 1949, surviving the great flood of 1953 and various ownership changes and developments over the years. I loved this attraction as a child and my daughter loves it too! There are also a number of rollercoasters, with more gentle ones, then building up to Rage, which has a vertical drop and loops. My daughter is looking forward to being tall enough to do that, but she’ll be going on with her Dad when that time comes, not me! There is also a water slide and an indoor area, Adventure Inside, which features a few more rides, including a traditional carousel (my personal favourite) and a decent sized soft play. Staff at the park are generally young, so they have lots of enthusiasm (if we lived nearer, I’d probably encourage my daughter to apply when she’s older, as I think it’s probably a pretty fun working environment, as well as quite hard work) and they are also friendly and helpful when you need anything. As well as the rides that are included in with your entry, there are also plenty of stalls encouraging you to spend more, like “Hook-a-Duck”, which my daughter loves. This is where having an annual pass is beneficial, as you get 20% discount on purchases, including from the food and drink stalls, of which there are also many! Personally, we recommend avoiding the restaurants inside the park as they’re not that great and there are loads of really nice local places a few minutes walk away which deserve supporting. You can also spend money on a Funtopia gamecard, to use on the many games machines in the arcade areas. You can pay to play with a debit / credit card, but the Funtopia card gives you extra credit and allows you to collect points which can be exchanged for prizes. Annual pass also gives you extra credit! Plenty of toilets in the park, including accessible and baby change. All in reasonable condition throughout the day. Overall, we really enjoy visiting and will continue to do so; it’s a great day out on its own, but when you add the other nearby attractions to the mix (Sealife Adventure, Southend Pier, spending time on the beach and in the water when it’s warm enough), this is a fabulous place to visit.

⭐☆☆☆☆ We visited Adventure Island last week and purchased annual passes for our family. On our return visit, I was excited to bring along four other families—18 people in total—after highly recommending the park, even convincing them to travel from Birmingham for the experience. However, our visit was completely overshadowed by the poor treatment we received as annual pass holders. Despite having email confirmation of our passes and our photos already in the system from the first visit, we mistakenly forgot our physical cards. Instead of offering a simple solution—like issuing wristbands, as we were already registered—the supervisor insisted we pay £6 for replacement cards. We offered to just get the wristbands and even showed our ID and confirmation emails, but were told we had no option except to pay, even though they clearly had our details on record. It felt like a money-grabbing tactic rather than genuine customer care, especially after I brought so many new paying customers to the park. Very disappointing and embarrassing after highly recommending the place to friends and family. If you're considering an annual pass here, beware: there is no help or flexibility if you forget your card, and you’ll be forced to pay extra fees on top of the not-insignificant cost of entry. Not the level of service or understanding I'd expect from a top family attraction.

Discounted tickets after 5pm. Got to be quick if you want to do all the rides. Rage was the best. 2cm too short for two. Height checks in que. Ferris wheel took ages. Some ride staff were brilliant. Got wet on the green water slide. Toilets at either end. Plenty of places for food and drink. A good enough park to say you've done.
Max D — Google review
For a seaside, this is one of the biggest fairgrounds I've come across. For families, it would be great value as there is a great variety of rides for old and young if using their wristbands. Alternatively, you can purchase a ticket to ride for £4 which we did just for the big wheel. Was very busy, so there was a bit of a wait to get on. Clean and family-friendly environment.

Tours
Kent & East Sussex Railway, located in Tenterden Town Station, offers a nostalgic journey on vintage steam and diesel trains. Passengers can enjoy the scenic ride through the picturesque countryside to Bodiam, where they can visit the stunning National Trust castle. The railway, dating back to 1900, is celebrated as one of the UK's prime rural light railways and has been operating as a tourist attraction since 1974.
The Kent and East Sussex Railway totally staffed by volunteers and funded by donations is a wonderful trip back in time. The staff were dressed in period costumes and the steam was plentiful from the engines. Departed and returned on time with glorious country landscape along the journey. Suggest lunch and then return on the late train. Fair price for a great family experience.

Great little train and trip. Railway staff were brilliant. Not particularly cheap, but value for money. We managed to get our own carriage both ways, think that it would have been a little less special if we had had to share with other passengers. Scenery outstanding.
Rhona W — Google review
We planned to visit Bodiam Castle and couldn’t think of a better way to travel there than on the steam train from Tenterden. What an excellent decision, we had a lovely day out, enjoyed looking out for wildlife on the train journey and loved the atmosphere. I would highly recommend this to everyone!
Greg I — Google review
The Kent and Sussex Railway is really worth a visit for a fantastic day out. Nice big free car park and lovely friendly staff and volunteers everywhere making sure you have a wonderful day. The atmosphere is great as steam loco's move about while you wait to board for a journey to Scotney castle and back. Barrie and I did the trip a couple of times on different loco's and enjoyed sausage and mash for lunch at Tenterden Station. The museum is well worth a visit near the car park. We had a really exciting day, thank you.

Nice little place, lovely friendly staff working in the railway station. I paid for a guest class cream afternoon tea with the steam train. I did not get the first class photo advertised on the publicity and I did not get the tide on a steam train. They gave me a complementary voucher not valid in many special occasions with a free ginger biscuit. I was dissatisfied since I did not pay for that. The museum is small but worth it.
Ljubica B — Google review
Fantastic railway. Served up a great diesel gala, might have been a good idea to hold the 1015 from Tenterden to Bodiam for the shuttle bus from Ashford seeing as there were so many passengers on it.
Hans C — Google review
If you want the steam train experience then this is the place. The whole experience is like going back in time. The volunteers who run this are amazing. The train ride takes about 50min with 4 stops, old level crossings, whistles, and flags. Original carriages and dinners.
Mark — Google review
It's a great day out! Train goes from Tenterden to Bodiam. There is a Norman castle (national trust) there and a nice pub. The train ride goes through the Kent/ east Sussex countryside with some great views. The steM train we took was of 1950s as were the coaches. A real throwback in time. Staff are helpful. There is a free museum at Tenterden.

Camber Sands is a stunning beach in East Sussex, England, boasting 2 miles of shoreline with beautiful sand dunes. The area offers various water sports and is patrolled by lifeguards for safety. Additionally, visitors can enjoy delicious dining experiences at restaurants like The Gallivant and The Owl. For accommodation, there are unique design cottages that offer splendid views of the sea and dunes.
The beach is absolutely massive, you can walk for ages and still not see the end of it. Perfect for finding your own patch of sand, even on a busy day. The dunes behind are great for a bit of an explore too.

Could not believe the sand is so smooth here where the beach elsewhere in the UK is so pebblish and hard to walk around. Could see some kids doing sand surfing and is a very dog-friendly place. There are tides at different periods and riptides at some area.

❤️❤️Beautiful Beach ❤️❤️ expect a lot of people ❤️❤️ Lifeguards on location ❤️❤️Two things which I didn’t like No quality shops around for food . Parking Charge is too high 😐.. One more thing Seagull are very aggressive… Anyway if you plan properly like take food and park but far and keep eye on Seagulls then it very beautiful place to see .. ❤️❤️

Beautiful beach and place to go. We had an amazing day here and it was really cool to observe the tides. Water is not super clear so visibility is nothing special, but good for a short swim. The beach is clean and there is plenty of space to chill and relax.

Camber Sands beach is easily accessible from London and makes for a perfect day trip. We had a wonderful experience with its stunning turquoise water and beautiful sand dunes. What made it truly unique was the mix of soft sand, shingles, and pebbles all in one place. A peaceful and scenic spot to relax, explore, and enjoy nature.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Had a fantastic day at Camber Sands Beach! The beach itself is absolutely stunning, with golden sands stretching for miles, perfect for a long walk or a relaxing day by the sea. The parking was easy and affordable, and it was great to see clean, well-maintained toilet facilities nearby too. A brilliant spot for a family day out, we’ll definitely be coming back!

Camber Sands is without doubt one of our absolute favourite beaches in the UK. It’s a stunning stretch of coastline with soft, rolling waves of golden sand that seem to go on forever – perfect for long walks, sandcastles, or just lounging in the sun. The kids absolutely love it here – they’re constantly darting between the water and the sand, always finding something to do. Whether it’s paddling in the shallows, digging holes, or chasing each other up and down the dunes, there’s never a dull moment. There’s plenty of parking available, which makes getting in and out stress-free, even on busier days. Around the area, you’ll find handy little shops selling beach toys and snacks, which is brilliant if you’ve forgotten a bucket or spade. And for food, you can’t go wrong – there are some excellent fish and chips spots nearby, ideal for a proper seaside lunch. Camber Sands has that rare mix of natural beauty and family-friendly amenities. It’s clean, spacious, and full of charm. Whether you’re visiting for the day or planning a longer stay, it’s a perfect beach for all ages. We never get tired of coming back!

Port Lympne Safari Park offers a unique safari experience with its safari-themed hotel, cottages, cabins, and treehouse suites. The 600-acre Port Lympne Reserve provides an exhilarating adventure for animal enthusiasts. Guests can enjoy afternoon tea at the Grade II-listed Port Lympne Mansion and indulge in sweet and savory delicacies paired with an extensive array of loose-leaf teas or coffee.
Fabulous safari park with a lot to see in a beautiful landscape. The rooms were amazing - our treehouse wasn't in a tree, but above the treeline with grand views over the park and the the landscape beyond, all the way to the sea. The steps are steep, but once you are up there the accommodation doesn't disappoint. The park itself has a lot to offer for all the family, with driven safari-style tours, self-drive golf buggies or walking. Staff is very friendly and helpful, and facilities of a high standard. The animals are impressive, and the conservation ethos and sheer space of the park sets it above normal zoo experiences. It's not cheap but still a great day out and highly recommended.

I recently stayed overnight at Pinewood Lodge with my two kids (ages 5 and 8) and had such a great time! The lodge was cozy, the beds were nice and snuggly, and it was perfectly located for exploring the park. The kids absolutely loved the primate trail and the Dinosaur Forest, and the safari ride was a big highlight — spotting rhinos, giraffes, bison and more felt like a real adventure. They also had so much fun roasting marshmallows by the fire in the evening and next morning, which made the whole experience even more special. We really enjoyed our meal at Babydoll’s Restaurant too — great food and a lovely atmosphere to end the day. Everything was well organised, the staff were friendly and helpful, and we’ll definitely be back. A brilliant mix of wildlife, learning and fun for families!

My husband and I had a fantastic time at Port Lympne. We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in the Sir Phillip Sassoon executive suite and it was beautiful. We had an evening meal at the Baby Doll restaurant on our first night and on our second night we had an evening meal at Bear Lodge restaurant, and breakfast was also served in Bear Lodge. The food in both restaurants was delicious. On our first day we did the Gorilla Encounter, we got to feed the gorillas from the roof top and then see them inside, following that we had a safari and on our 2nd day we did the Giraffe Encounter and got to feed the giraffes. The staff on both encounters and the guide on our safari were fantastic, very informative, very welcoming and we had the best time even the rain on our first day didn’t stop us. Having the use of a golf buggy during our stay was also a bonus. Every member of staff made us feel so welcome and nothing seemed to much trouble, we will definitely be returning in the very near future

A fantastic day out with our 16 months old. What we absolutely loved about this park was the fact that the animals had SO much room. We've never been to a zoo before where animals have been so fortunate to be placed there. When we compare it to Howletts it's night and day the animal welfare. You guys have done a brilliant job here, animals come first. Yes, you don't always see the animals, but that in my eyes is a brilliant thing, cause it means they have a more realistic habitat. The Sunday roast in the Garden room was just brilliant, couldn't reccomend this enough. The service was also fantastic. We wouldn't hesitate coming back. It's great to support a park that actually care about the animals and use the money to better not only captive animals lives, but also animals in the wild. So refreshing to see a company doing the right thing for once. One thing to note, it is VERY hilly, so having a push chair was a work out for us with steep hills etc. we were pretty shattered at the end of the day, but little one loved it!

5 stars all round, without a doubt. We stayed in Mansion House, and the room was one of the best we’ve ever experienced — waking up each morning to the sounds of tigers, lions, lemurs, and more was unbelievable. We also did the Ranger Safari with Will, who was excellent: friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what he does. The food throughout our stay was incredible, and the whole experience felt like a once-in-a-lifetime getaway. Truly unlike anything I’ve ever done before. Highly recommend.

Rhino lodge. Where to start? Staff were great checking in, we were chauffeured to our lodge by a very knowledgeable young man who was extremely chatty. The lodge was clean, everything had been thought of, like toiletries, some snacks and drinks. There were even robes and slippers for us all to use. To our children's delight there were Rhinos by the fence in the paddock so they were straight out to see them. Next stop was the safari, the guide knew everything there was to know and shared so much information. Dinner at Babydolls was excellent. We had a fire pit in the garden and marshmallows had been lift in the lodge with sticks for us. This was a lovely touch! Breakfast in the garden room was beyond expectations, the food was incredible. The highlight of our stay for the kids was our golf buggy and being able to go round the zoo after closing time and early in the morning with no crowds. Not a cheap 24 hours, but one we'll never forget!

Booked a night at the Hog Deer Creek accommodation for my partner’s birthday. Absolutely amazing experience all round. The park itself is excellent, the animals are clearly well cared for with plenty of space. The staff on site be it in the reception, concierge, facilities team, rangers or restaurants are friendly, organised and highly professional. The food was fantastic and the Giraffe Experience is definitely worth doing. The accommodation itself was immaculate. Cosy, well equipped and it was extremely fun driving around such a large well kept site in the golf buggy. 5* all round, will 100% be returning again.

This was a truly magical stay & experience, with my daughter and grandsons, aged 12 & nearly 10 both wondered why we would stay two nights surely we can do the zoo in one day !! Ummm they soon changed their minds having the best time ever and loved every minute. Breakfast at the bear lodge was delicious, BabyDolls restaurant was a favourite a more relaxed vibe for children than the Garden room restaurant which we ate at the second night, food at both was very good and wouldn’t expect anything less. I would highly recommend this stay and would definitely go back. We made memories together that we will never forget.

The Canterbury Tales is a relaxed and cozy pub with an open log fire, serving real ales, cocktails, and comfort food. It's located in one of England's historic towns where visitors can follow in the footsteps of both the knights who clashed with Archbishop Becket and Geoffrey Chaucer's pilgrims. The town offers various activities for all ages, including interactive museums like The Canterbury Tales and the Roman Museum, as well as family-friendly cafes and eateries.
Great place. I go from time to time and am never disappointed. This time I arrived in Ceilidh night. Which was completely awesome.

The beer was fine, but leaving the door open on a cold night was not a particularly welcoming atmosphere. No food is served. Very handy if you're visiting the Marlowe theatre opposite.

Service was fine but the pub stunk of damp, was very cold and the women’s toilets were mouldy. Not enjoyable for pre-theatre drinks. Could be a cosy little pub if it was cared for.

It’s not sure if it’s a pub or a disco/nightclub. No ales available. £6.40 a pint! You’re having a laugh! We’re in Canterbury, not London. One mouthful of substandard ipa and left. Please let someone who actually cares about their clientele take over.

Wondered into the Canterbury tales pub as just a stones throw from the marlowe theatre. Several pumps had run out so not much choice of beers. Pub was completely dead. Looked like the gents toilets was out of order so a bit of paper on the womens said unisex toilets. Was really cold inside the pub and smelt of dogs.

Sights & Landmarks
Canterbury Cathedral, a Norman-built Church of England place of worship located in Canterbury, UK, is one of the oldest religious sites in England with a history dating back over 1400 years. It gained notoriety as the location where Archbishop Thomas Becket was tragically killed in 1170. Despite enduring fires and restoration efforts, the cathedral's Gothic towers and exquisite stained-glass windows continue to captivate visitors.
Canterbury Cathedral is absolutely breathtaking. From the stunning stained glass windows to the grand architecture, every corner tells a story. The atmosphere is peaceful yet powerful, and walking through its ancient halls feels like stepping back in time. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in history, architecture, or simply experiencing something truly awe-inspiring. The audio guide was helpful too. Don’t miss the cloisters!
Federico S — Google review
Went on a Thursday, a week day. Large cathedral, bigger than expected. It did have some construction ongoing outside so that did affect the pictures of the building. Staff and volunteers inside were friendly and happy to tell you a lot about the history, for free. Ticket office staff also helpful explaining the differences in tickets. Very quick and easy. Cathedral probably needs two visits and definitely a tour guide to fully appreciate. There is a cafe and restaurant, and even a hotel. Toilet facilities were adequate. Good places to sit and read if you need a break also. Definitely will return.
Kenechi N — Google review
Very impressed. More than expected. Magnificent architecture. Huge, light, airy and less dark and oppressive when compared with Westminster Abbey. Beautiful ceilings and stained glass and extensive history. Less ‘tombs’ and fortunately less busy midweek. During our visit a Chaplain addressed all visitors briefly from the pulpit, and offered a prayer, using the cathedral for it’s intended purpose as a place of worship - not a tourist attraction - as it should be. The entry fee to the Cathedral is very reasonable considering the cost of maintaining the building and overseeing visitors. We paid an additional small sum for a guided tour which was exceptional. Lucky to get a ticket. The volunteer gave us a lot of insight into the development of Christianity in the UK, the various phases of the Church during different occupations and global conflicts, the murder of Thomas Beckett in 1170 AD, the destruction of his shrine by King Henry VIII in 1538, all wrapped up with visiting the different areas of the building and outlining the many extensions and renovations over 1000 years! Wonderful learning experience.
Stephen — Google review
A beautiful and peaceful place to spend the day. You can wander around the whole site taking in all of the history and story of the cathedral. There is plenty to see inside both in the crypt and the main floor. You can walk through the entire cathedral. There are places set aside for prayer and quiet contemplation. The outside areas are quiet and interesting to look at. Since the building has been cleaned on the outside you get a good feel for the surroundings and what it would have looked like when it was built. Hearing the bells on the hour was magical and seeing the places where St Thomas was murdered and the site of his tomb before it was destroyed in the reformation makes you stop and think. A fantastic day and a day of learning is never wasted. One day I will return to learn some more. Thank you.
Gary J — Google review
Beautiful Cathedral inside and outside. Very well maintained. You might need two days to walk around inside and outside, lovely gardens with lots of historical information. We thought it was free to enter, but it wasn't. We brought tickets either £19 or £21.00 each (don't remember exactly) they are valid for 12 months from the day of purchase. Just as well really, we thought they opened early on Sunday mornings, but they don't they have Sunday service and they open at 12.30. We had planned to go somewhere else and couldn't wait that long. We managed to walk around inside on Saturday morning early when it was quiet. The cathedral echos when people are talking, it looses it's essence of peace and solidtude. Definitely check the opening and closing times when planning a visit, it isn't visible from the outside of the cathedral which currently has scaffolding surrounding it for maintenance work. I will definitely go back to walk around the remainder of the cathedral before our tickets expire.

Went for a short stay to see Cathedral and town. So historic and interesting. (Museum was great too...and free! ). Went to a choral evensong with the school girls choir, in the Cathedral....beautiful. Next day toured the Cathedral and amazing Crypt. Well worth the money. Walking outside to other historic sites in the Cathedral area, afterwards. We didn't book tickets,as at the beginning of November, it was not busy.

Stunning... Just walking around this magnificent building is a delight... And there's no charges. So with a beautiful cathedral and a lovely quaint town with plenty of food options you definitely cannot go wrong for a good day out..

The Cathedral is truly a jewel of medieval architecture. The town, where Charles Dickens once lived for a while, has its own magic. You can feel the atmosphere of English life, away from the hustle and bustle of London (in a certain sense, it conveyed this to me). In the winter, it comes alive with university student life, and I think the pace of daily life changes, but despite everything, it remains beautiful to visit, perhaps even better.

Howletts Wild Animal Park, located near Canterbury in Kent, is a 90-acre park that is home to a variety of exotic animals including gorillas, tigers, elephants, and monkeys. As part of The Aspinall Foundation's conservation efforts, the park focuses on breeding and reintroducing rare and endangered species. Visitors can also enjoy keeper experiences and a treetop challenge while learning about the park's important conservation work.
We had a truly amazing time at Howletts Wild Animal Park! It's a fantastic day out and felt very safe and family-friendly, especially for little ones. Our toddler (under 2) was able to run around freely, with plenty of open space and well-maintained paths. There’s a great variety of animals to see, including elephants, which were a real highlight. The park is spacious, clean, and clearly focused on animal welfare and conservation. A perfect spot for young families!

We recently visited Howletts Wild Animal Park and had a fantastic time from start to finish. Pre booking our tickets was easy and hassle free, and there was plenty of parking available when we arrived. The park itself was brilliant… so many animals to see, from big cats to playful primates. We loved watching them in spacious, well-kept enclosures that clearly prioritise animal welfare. One of the highlights of our visit was deciding to adopt a wolf, which made the experience even more memorable. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the whole place had a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back soon for another adventure!

What a lovely place! And animals are so impressive, playful and it feels they are really cared for. The lions were spectacular and we met some species we never knew existed (if you don't know what dhole is, now you have to visit!). A very long walk so make sure you have comfortable shoes and plenty of water. Park offers great cafés on the route with plenty of picnic areas (you can bring your own food), very well spaced, same with toilets, plenty on the route. Very clean facilities. Play area for kids is very interesting and young and small kids friendly. Good offer on food in pavillion. No need for wellies as everywhere is paved. Education centre is always busy so make sure you have plenty of time. I also really enjoyed the flora, would love to see names tags of some of the lovely trees and shrubs. Kids went free ont he day of visi (half-term promo) so found it very reasonably priced (but cafes are a bit overpriced). Car park is free and very near the exit/entrance. Thank you for a very pleasant day out :) my little one loved the anteater :)

Brilliant well laid out zoo. Each zoo we feel has a major positive over similar close by and this one was the amount of gorillas you can see up close and how close you can get to the the elephants. The stands by the elephant enclosure are fantastic and a great viewing point. Not every day do you get to eat lunch a few feet away from elephants. Great parking , plenty of cafes and toilets , play park for kids, easily accessible for wheelchairs, clean and tidy, lovely grounds.

Loved it!!! It is a great day out for the family, there are activities for kids to do and see, there are play grounds and not forgetting the amazing animals to see and learn about. They have a ton of different species aswell as DINOSAURS in the ice age area (not real ones lol). I would go back next time I am in Kent well worth the money.

We had a good time in July. The weather was fine and allowed us to see some of the animals. All big cats were sleeping, so we could not see much of them.... It's family friendly place, it's also suitable for wheelchairs and such. The place is clean, quiet and great for running children. It's quite big and so you better go with the opening time, that way you will enjoy the whole park on slow pace. It's great for quality time with your family! You will see lots of elephants and monkeys. My opinion is that the entrance tickets are a bit pricey. The coffee was also quite expensive.... It's okay for one time visit, but if it was cheaper, we would of go more often. Also just an idea, some places are free for children holding blue Peter card making them desirable to visit more often. If this place was part of the list, would definitely be visited more and recommended more.... Just for an example, instead of bringing my child in godston farm every other weekend where the entrance is free for him thanks to the blue Peter card, while paying the entrance for myself and the dad. Would be nice if it was free in Howletts Wild Animal park. They should definitely consider blue Peter cards in their schemes. That way people will keep coming back to their place.

Family day out , 1 adults and 2 kids (15 and 12). Firstly massive thank you for the reduced tickets during the summer holidays!!! (Only online) The park its self is fantastic, with plenty to see and explore. Sadly given the heat, we found a lot of the animals were seeking shade so we didnt get to see them. However in the four hours we walked the whole park 3 times over and manged to see some of the animals we missed earlier. All staff that we encountered around the park were extremely friendly and very helpful. There is ample places to eat and drink around the park. We picked the Elephant cafe which was reasonably priced with great quality meals. 2x burgers and fries and 1x hotdog and fried cost just over £30. Lots of toilets along the routes as well. Lots of parking available.

Free coffee and lately free snacks won't make up for overall cleanliness and horrendous state of the Club Car bathrooms. Tap water often smells worse than what you've left in the loo; hope they use different water for the coffee machines! Quick way across, just don't touch anything without gloves.

More often than not one train an hour during the night. Understandable at the beginning of the week when it’s quiet. but mid week when it’s busy and the lines are full and still only One train an hour, terrible service. Quite often have sat waiting to get on a train for two hours because of lack of trains being put on!

Fast and good service, if customs go smoothly…
Wouter W — Google review
I use this service multiple times a week and in both directions. When it runs properly, its a fantastic service! But the calais side is by far the worst side! It is an unnecessarily long process just to get through to the lanes. Don't bother even checking the train times on the app as they stop your lane half way through just to send a half empty train! 4 departures an hour, but sat in the lanes for over 30 minutes? I wonder how they get to those departure numbers. The staff are friendly enough though. The coffee on board is rancid but the hot chocolate is nice enough. Toilets can be hit and miss to the cleanliness, but thats down to the drivers. And let's face it, how many don't practice self hygiene. The toilet flushes only work as and when they want to. The carriages themselves are right enough. But I wonder when the last time they were given a deep clean was. Using the service today, I had over a 30 min wait I the lanes and there were only 10 drivers on board the carriage whilst the lanes were getting very full. They could have fit atleast another 2 lanes of trucks on this train alone. They prioritise passenger trains over freight. In January 2025, they removed the duty free from the UK side from freight drivers but kept the passenger side to which we have no access. We was told this would be for 6 weeks or so whilst they build a new one. Middle of August and there is still no duty free for freight drivers on the english side. There is so much room for improvement, but you never see any change.

Nice and quick through the lanes at the minute in the uk. But why do inside the trains have to be so bloody hot get some air-conditioning pumping through them properly

Historic Walking Areas
Folkestone Harbour Arm is a vibrant destination offering a mix of food stands, bars, live music stages, and seasonal events. It is located opposite a pebble beach and beach boardwalk, leading to an eclectic range of small shacks serving cuisine from around the globe. Nearby, there's an outdoor cinema showcasing classic films and sports coverage throughout the year. The renowned Rocksalt Restaurant offers panoramic views over the English Channel.
Folkestone Harbour Arm is such a wonderful place! It has a very cosy and welcoming atmosphere, making it perfect for a relaxing day out with family. There are plenty of things to see and do – from beautiful views of the sea to lovely cafes and little shops to explore. We really enjoyed walking along the pier, soaking up the fresh air and peaceful vibe. It feels so charming and full of life at the same time. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Folkestone – it’s ideal for families and for anyone who loves spending time by the sea.

The Folkestone Harbour along with the Lighthouse is an iconic attraction for anyone visiting Folkestone. The place has a long history dating back in the 1900s. The photos along with the valuable information speaks a lot. The Harbour area was quite windy when we visited yesterday but Sun came out later and calmed the environment. There is an entertaining promenade with live music and food cafes along with good seating arrangements. A place worthy to visit in summer.

What an amazing place to spend a few hours (or maybe a full day). Absolutely loved what had been done with a disused railway station. There are some great bars eateries, offering exceptional views across the English Channel.

The harbour arm has been 'done up' and is very nice. There are lots of independent small market shops and places where you can eat and drink, a bit like Christmas Market huts. There is a big outdoor TV screen fir watching sports etc. Not sure whether all this is seasonal abd just maybe weekends out of season? But there are other places such as the very nice bar by the lighthouse, and a small brewery pub that I should imagine stays open more regularly. There is also a few fair rides. The views of folkestone are lovely from here too.

Enjoyed a lovely walk from Lower Leas car park along the promenade & boardwalk to the harbour arm. Here we stopped at the Champagne bar in the old lighthouse. Well worth a visit, nice cocktails and yummy charcuterie.

I adore Folkestone Harbour. The views are absolutely stunning, if you're visiting Folkestone, you simply cannot miss the Harbour Arm. Plenty of independent traders offering a great range of foods and drinks, there's truly something for everyone. Lots of different events and entertainment on throughout the year... I could go on and on!

My first visit to Folkstone to explore the colorful Artist Quarter. Lovely coffee shops open on a Sunday morning, already buzzing with people! Colours of painted shop fronts were joyful and welcoming as I walked down old High Street to the Harbour. Spectacular views east to fishing fleet and chalk cliffs. Beautiful tulips planted in a memorial garden. I loved this visit to Folkstone!

I visited Folkestone and found it to be a charming seaside town with a nice mix of history, coastal views, and places to relax — the harbor area is great for a stroll, and it’s a pleasant spot to enjoy the sea atmosphere.

Turner Contemporary

Art gallery
Museums
Turner Contemporary is a striking international art gallery located in Kent, offering dramatic spaces to showcase the works of JMW Turner and contemporary artists. The modern building provides stunning sea views, making it an ideal venue for weddings. Visitors can enjoy rotating modern exhibitions, including pieces by renowned artists like Grayson Perry and Carlos Amorales. Situated at the site where Turner once stayed, the gallery celebrates his connection to Margate and forms part of the town's lively art scene.
It’s absolutely amazing to me as in experience. Each room of the gallery is managed and arranged nicely according to the growth of time. Each picture captured not the objects but also (in my opinion) the emotions of the people in specific, and the changes of the periods in general. Can’t believe it’s closed not long after my visit but hopefully it can be opened again soon. And please do donation if you’re happy, this place deserves it.

Dropped by Turner Contemporary during a day trip beach day to Margate and really enjoyed it. It’s free, super clean, and well looked after. I only had a quick wander before closing but it was still a really nice visit. Being right by the water is an added bonus. Worth checking out if you’re in Margate!

We spent a lovely couple of hours wandering through the galleries. All very well curated. Great for school groups. No entrance fee. Just donations requested. Small but interesting gift shop with pottery that reflects Turners key work.

I am always excited to see what's going to be on display next. The presentation is always top class with such attention to details. My daughter and I are frequent visitors.

It's free so always worth popping in if you're in Margate anyway. Quite surprised and a bit disappointed that there is literally just the one lonely Turner there. The other exhibits were a mixed bag really, two beautiful sculptures as you enter but the rest were bafflingly naive. Personal taste of course with any exhibition.

Enjoyable gallery. Airy and great light. However there is not a great deal to see. An hour and you have easily. seen everything on display. We went to see the Bridget Riley exhibition which is well layed out and displayed. Nice shop and coffee shop on site.

Always enjoy visiting the Turner no matter what the exhibition. It’s light, airy, has a great gift shop and cafe, entertainment for kids and decent toilets. We could easily spend a day here when the kids were small but now they are older it tends to be a couple of hours.

Shell Grotto

The Shell Grotto in Margate is a fascinating and mysterious underground cave adorned with 4.6 million shells, including cockle, whelk, mussel, and oyster shells. Discovered by chance in 1835, its origins remain unknown, giving rise to various theories about its purpose - from being a Masonic Temple to a secret meeting place or even a hiding spot.
What a wonderful place. I think that this place deserves more visibility to the tourists than it has got at the moment. The place is truly the work of someone with a fine artist mind and a lot of patience and dedication. It is beautifully done. Thankfully it is now preserved well so the general public can enjoy the lovely artistic work.

The Shell Grotto is definitely a unique and interesting place to visit - I just wish it was a little bigger/there was a little more to see. Fascinating series of passages and small rooms beautifully decorated with shells. And how and why it was done is still a mystery. I enjoyed reading all the history and info. Recommend. Only a 10/15 min walk from the old town (and we also saw a lovely Tudor house).

Visited the Shell Grotto and really enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly. And there's a nice selection of items you can buy in the shop. Definitely worth seeing. It was quite busy when we went in Sunday, but you can explore it in about 15 min. A short but very interesting experience.

Interesting place to visit and cheap activity. It takes approx 10 mins to walk around you can make it longer if you really want to inspect the design. But it is very small so if you area bit wary of tight spaces be aware this may not be for you. They have some interesting facts before you head down to the grotto. The team are friendly and the gift shop is lovely if a bit small when there are lots of people. Definitely worth a visit

Much smaller than expected but still very interesting with a little bit of history and alot of skill. I feel the entry price is far too expensive for something that took me 5 minutes to walk around, but for someone particularly interested in the artwork and fancy something different to look at, its still good. The gift shop is a must see as has plenty of gorgeous seashells and a few other pretty items for sale. No toilets or parking, if your lucky you can find free street parking nearby.

Visiting the Shell Grotto was an unforgettable experience. The moment I stepped inside, I couldn’t believe my eyes — every surface is covered in intricate patterns made entirely from seashells. It’s both mysterious and magical, and truly unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. This is absolutely a must-see destination for anyone. After exploring the grotto, I enjoyed browsing the charming gift shop, which offers a wonderful selection of seashells and other unique treasures to take home as souvenirs.

Stunning place decorated with many shells. Definitely worth a visit. There is also a shop to buy all sorts of small things. Not far, 3-4 minutes walk, there's a carpark with a pound stretcher, there the parking is free for two hours.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely mesmerizing! The Shell Grotto is one of Margate's hidden gems and a truly unique experience. From the moment you descend into this mysterious underground tunnel, you're transported into something magical. The intricate shell mosaics covering every surface are breathtaking - it's incredible to think that millions of shells were carefully arranged to create these beautiful patterns and designs. The craftsmanship is extraordinary, and the fact that we still don't know who created it or exactly when adds to the mystique. The audio guide is excellent and really helps you appreciate the history and theories surrounding this fascinating place. The lighting creates a wonderful atmospheric experience that makes the shells shimmer and come alive. Perfect for families, history buffs, or anyone looking for something completely different. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the gift shop has some lovely souvenirs. Don't miss this incredible piece of Margate's heritage - it's unlike anywhere else in the world! Well worth the visit and the ticket price. Highly recommended!
