During my exploration of Gwalior Fort on my visit to IIITM Gwalior, I stopped by the **Teli Temple (तेली टेंपल)** — one of the most striking and unique structures within the fort complex. The moment I saw it, I was amazed by its towering shikhara and distinctive blend of architectural styles — a fusion of North Indian *Nagara* and South Indian *Dravidian* influences that makes it stand out from anything else in Gwalior. Built around the 8th–9th century by the Pratihara rulers, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (though often associated with Shiva as well), and its name “Teli-ka-Mandir” is believed to come from the oil merchants (*telis*) who may have commissioned its restoration centuries later. The tall spire, intricate stone carvings, and grand entrance arch all speak of a time when craftsmanship was at its peak. Standing before it, surrounded by open courtyards and the quiet expanse of the fort, I felt both awe and peace — the temple exudes a sense of power and grace that transcends time. The sunlight falling on its red sandstone surface gave it a golden glow, and the silence around made the moment even more special. Visiting the Teli Temple was one of the highlights of my Gwalior Fort experience — a place where art, history, and spirituality meet in perfect harmony.

Amazing Gurudwara with a lot of history. This is where Guru Hargobind singh was jailed by Jehangir. Also many other stories regarding many Hindu kings being jailed here as well. Place is very clean and tidy with lot of car parking also available outside. Good experience to visit the historical place!

Wonderful place that has great sculptures that were sculpted into the hill side rocks. Jain tirthankar statues within caves. Need to leave your footwear at the base of the hill near a Jain temple and then climb up a flight of stairs up to the caves. There is also a Bawli (natural spring water well). The beautiful statues were disfigured by invaders.

Majestic&Mysterious Datia Palace An absolutely hidden gem & also known as the Satkhanda Palace & Bir Singh Ji Deo Palace, this resplendent 7storeyed palace is an excellent representation of Indo-Islamic style of architecture. Located on the Gwalior - Jhansi highway and only 75kms from Gwalior this is palace is A MUST SEE for those who love to get a peak into the bundela Dynasty history. They're are local guides available at the entrance of the palace, though most of the information is available online. Ticket costs Indians -25Rs Time taken to see palace -1.5hours This 400+ rooms palace is said to have never been inhabited by the king who commissioned it in 1620A.D(neither his family)nor the emperor ( Jehangir) for whom it was built. Historians believe that after the constructions Maharaja Deo Ji extended an invitation to the emperor, who politely declined,thus living it inhabited for time immemorial. The palace is built of purely stone and bricks.The architecture of arched doorways and domes and lattice work reflect Mughal influences, while sculptures and very few paintings depict birds, animals, and flowers in the Rajput style, one can see glimpses of it in certain parts of the palace. The beauty of the palace lies in its sheer size and space and the numerous chhatris crowned with ribbed domestic. A small part of the palace is under renovation but majority of it is open to public, so one can easily enjoy the grandeur of this place.

Lakshmi temple is a perfect blend of temple and fort architecture. The walls of this charming shrine are elaborately decorated with fabulous mural paintings, which show pulsating compositions from mythological themes. The most beautiful part of Raja mahal palace are the murals on the ceiling and all along the walls of some of the chambers. Raja Mahal is the first palace inside the Orchha complex towards right and then comes the Jehangir Mahal.Both these places are unique in their architecture. The Royal Chhatris are located on the bank of river Betwa. Entry tickets needs to be brought at Orchha fort(common ticket for all). Paid parking beside the road(common parking ticket for all ). Chhatris are stunning cenotaphs built in honor of kings and queens of the Bundela . Awesome architecture. Location is scenic as it is next to Betwa river, where you can sit and relax. You can spot the vultures. Visit either in the morning or evening for best photography. There are small eateries on the way. Boat ride is also there.
