Oct25- hiking is for fit folk. 1 day or 4 day. Choices. Or take the scenic railway and bus and climb last 20mins to summit. Low season but busy. Time for pics and views. Magnificent place. Standing before Machu Picchu in person is genuinely unforgettable. As you take in the ancient stone terraces set against the misty mountain peaks, there's an overwhelming sense of peace that settles over you – a tranquility that no photograph can capture.

Beautiful, time travel, breathtaking 😍 Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca citadel located high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, known for its sophisticated dry-stone architecture and stunning mountain setting. Abandoned around the time of the Spanish conquest, it is believed to have been a royal estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti and was brought to international attention by Hiram Bingham in 1911. Today, it is a major archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a popular tourist destination reached by train and bus, or by hiking the Inca Trail.
Madhu M — Google review
Machu Picchu, the breathtaking Inca citadel in the Andes, is a must-visit UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its stunning architecture and surrounding natural beauty make it unforgettable. For those exploring the Sacred Valley, this awe-inspiring site deepens the connection to Inca culture and history.
T B — Google review
Machu Picchu is one of those rare places that truly lives up to the hype. No matter how many photos you’ve seen, nothing compares to standing among the clouds with the Andes stretching endlessly around you. The ruins themselves are absolutely mind-blowing every stone tells a piece of Incan history, and the engineering is unbelievable. Walking through the temples, terraces, and hidden passageways feels like stepping back in time. I hiked around the site and took my time exploring, and every turn revealed a new breathtaking view. One moment you’re looking out over the terraces, the next you’re peeking through stone windows framed by mist-covered mountains. The famous llamas was a highlight. They roam freely and definitely aren’t shy! I recommend going early in the morning to beat the crowds and catch the magical fog as it lifts over the ruins. Bring water, a rain jacket, and good hiking shoes. The altitude can be a challenge, but it’s absolutely worth every step. This place isn’t just a bucket list destination it’s a soul check moment. One of the most beautiful and unforgettable places I’ve ever been. Highly recommend. #ruins #world wonder

There's a reason it's on the 7 natural wonders. From Cusco, took 5 hours from hotel to the time we entered the park. Van, to train, to bus ... 5 hours. The way they've broken the tours down into different segments seems to be helpful to keep it from being so overcrowded.

A true wonder of the world — absolutely unforgettable! After a 5-day trek, finally reaching Machu Picchu was an emotional and unforgettable experience. Every step of the journey was worth it. The view, the atmosphere, and the history of this sacred Inca site are simply breathtaking. You can feel the power and mystery of the place in every corner. It truly deserves its place among the Seven Wonders of the World — a magical and inspiring destination that I will never forget.

We had a 90 minute chocolate-making class today (29 April) and really enjoyed it. We learned all about how chocolate is made, sampled cacao beans straight out of the pod, made chocolate tea, hot chocolate and our own chocolates to take home! Definitely recommend.
Ben B — Google review
Although this was said to be open, there was no one there in the museum. We went around by ourselves and looked at the rooms. We went around 10am but no one was there. We waited for about 10-15 minutes and left the place. Not anything great, but they have the history of chocolate and how it is made. Good for a short visit by kids. They have a variety of chocolate to buy.
Nandu R — Google review
Wonderful instructor and such a fun experience getting to learn about the process and doing lots of hands on experience. They have an English and Spanish option for the classes which was really helpful. Had lots of fun making our own cocoa tea and hot cocoa from scratch and the best part was creating your own chocolate with so many different toppings. She was such an amazing instructor, even went as far as to take photos for us and made the entire experience much more enjoyable. Definitely recommend!!
Alexis — Google review
Very hands-on workshop to learn the process of making chocolate, starting with roasting the beans! Delightful instructor Lisette led me in English and my broken Spanish, with a little Quechua thrown in. Well priced, I personally enjoyed it a lot.
Rachel M — Google review
Should no longer be called a museum, it is NOT a museum! It is only a store! I was so excited to visit a chocolate museum randomly here. When I saw the sign I wanted to get a tour. I entered the store first & no one was there until a lady followed. I asked for a tour & she said “No, this is only a store.” I was upset & decided not to be down & at least buy a chocolate to cheer me up. I have a feeling she did not care to inform me of any workshops or events as previous customers have raved about. So I left unhappy & want to make sure the owner is aware of this through my review. I got the 70% orange peel chocolates that were mediocre but not exceptional, you could no longer taste the orange flavor... it was just a crunchy tasteless peel & overpriced. I do not recommend coming here for any reason at all though.
Kat C — Google review
Not only can you purchase different cocoa products, you can also do one of the cooking classes. This gives you the opportunity to make chocolate tea, hot chocolate and chocolate bars using a variety of moldes. It was an awesome experience and we would thoroughly recommend it. Can do it in Spanish and English.
Ryan K — Google review
We took the ice cream that was really good. Tasty and good quality. 2 for 5 soles and 3 for 7 soles. The place is also nice to rest from a long walk. Ice cream flavours: Strawberry, mocha, chocolate, maracuyá, dulce de leche (so tasty) and some others.
Stephani R — Google review
Dessert looked a lot prettier than it tasted. Brownies tasted like they were store-bought and dulce de leche ice cream was blech. Chocolate milkshake seemed like it was made with sour milk.

Ollantaytambo Archeological Site

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Incan archaeological site used as a city, fort & royal estate with big terraces & a ceremonial area.
Wonderful site with many places to explore. It's more meaningful only if you take a guide here. We got a guide named Ms Lily from Peru Adventure Trek and she was extraordinary with her explanations. Ensure to dress with warm clothes as the place is cool and very windy. Beautiful scenery 👌
Candida C — Google review
I staid two days to acclimate to altitude before attending a festival in Cusco. It was my second trip. The first time I passed through going to Machu Picchu. I now had two days to explore. Early morning was exceptional without crowds. It is just as impressive as Machu Picchu in my mind. Lots to see, friendly people and nice small town feel. I enjoyed it very much.
MC S — Google review
Ollantaytambo is absolutely essential for understanding the Inca Empire. The fortress/temple ruins are stunning, especially the gigantic Sun Temple monoliths high on the hill. The climb is intense, but the panoramic views of the Sacred Valley and the ancient granaries (Qolcas) on the opposite hill are worth every step. What makes this place special is that the town below is the only continuously inhabited Inca town. Take time to walk the narrow streets and see the original Inca water channels still in use. Highly recommend staying here for a night or two instead of just passing through!
Michal R — Google review
This is my second best historical places to visit near Cusco Peru after Machu Picchu. I would recommend to come here first and stay for a night. Rentals are very affordable in this small town. There’s many cafes and restaurants you can eat. Then take a train and visit Machu Picchu
Serge L — Google review
Love this site, one of the larger sites (and can visit by train if you want to from Cusco) with many interesting features. In the cliff side opposite the main ruins is a construction (which is possible to visit) that our guide told us was a cold store built by the Incas. Interestingly, when we visited 30 years ago we were told they were tombs! Tickets are part of the Cusco Tourist Ticket, and can be bought on site.
Gary H — Google review
We visited the Ollantaytambo archaeological site at the end of the day, and wow, what a view! It’s quite a climb with lots of stairs, but every step is worth it. This ancient Inca fortress was strategically built to protect the Sacred Valley and later served as one of the last strongholds of the Inca resistance against the Spanish. The terraces, temples, and massive stone walls are truly impressive, and the view over the valley at sunset is just breathtaking.
Beat R — Google review
Ollantaytambo, located in the Sacred Valley, is a remarkable Incan town and archaeological site that feels like a step back in time. The fortress and terraced hillsides are impressively preserved, showcasing Incan engineering and strategic design. Visitors can explore the ruins, climb the terraces for panoramic views, and stroll through the cobbled streets of the town, which still retains much of its original layout. The site is also a key starting point for the train to Machu Picchu, making it both a cultural and practical stop. The combination of history, stunning mountain scenery, and lively local culture makes Ollantaytambo a must-visit destination in the Sacred Valley. Ideal for history enthusiasts, photographers, and travelers seeking authentic Andean village experiences.
Purba D — Google review
This is one of our favorite places in Sacred Valley. The view is breathtaking from the top and it’s incredible to see the Inca’s stonework for the sun temple. The entire site is designed to look like a llama. Our guide Miguel was part of Exclusive Inca Tour. It was so much more enjoyable to have a great guide. We learned so much and got to enjoy the early morning view of Ollantaytambo.

Machu Picchu HotSprings

Banos Termales, located near Machu Picchu, offers a relaxing experience in natural hot spring pools for a small entrance fee. Visitors can unwind and enjoy the surrounding jungle while soaking in the bubbling hot water. It's recommended to visit early in the morning to avoid crowds and to fully appreciate the experience. The hot springs have cold fountains and a 1.5-hour limit for visitors, but longer stays are often allowed.
Pretty cool place! PEN20 per person for non-Peruvians. There are showers and changing rooms, and there is a counter where you can store your valuables for free. There are staff walking around and they are super helpful. The changing rooms and the bathrooms are also pretty clean. It’s a quick 15-minute walk from the town. There are stores along the streets where you can rent towels and swim suits.
Jia Y — Google review
The town may be called Aguas Calientes (hot waters),  but the water is tepid at best. I might just be a little bitter because someone took my hat after I forgot it on a peg in one of the dressing rooms. The setting of the baths are second to none. Think towering, forest-covered mountains and an impressive view down the valley. I do feel, however, that the baths would have been way more appropriate for the setting if they used the plentiful natural stone to build a bath-complex that fits with the ruins everyone is so eager to see. That being said, the small pools are easier to clean. This is essential, since every night they drain and scrub the baths for the next day. It was not the the most hygienic setup by the time we arrived in the late afternoon. And it made me miss the meticulous, clean onsen culture in Japan.
Hein V — Google review
The water is dirty. It looks grey. It’s a hike up for nothing. I don’t even want to get into the water. The hottest pool is 37 degree and has most people. The coldest is 14 degree. It has no people and the water is the clearest. They have changing room but no towel or hot water for shower. Wouldn’t want to come back again. 20 soles for international. Cash only.
WDannie — Google review
This is the perfect spot to relax after a day of hiking around Machu Picchu. There are several pools at different temperatures, so you can move between them until you find your favorite. The atmosphere is laid-back and friendly — it’s easy to chat with other travelers or even locals enjoying the soak. While the facilities are a little rustic, they have everything you need, including changing rooms and a reception where staff will help keep an eye on your belongings. Overall, it’s a unique and enjoyable experience that adds to the charm of visiting the town. Tip: bring sandals and a towel to make your visit more comfortable.
Justin C — Google review
I love anything to do with water and I would not go back here. Felt really musty, and I could not get over the smell. Theres suspicious particles in the water. Bring your own towels of course. Changing rooms were clean!
An C — Google review
Not recommended. A few pools that are warm at best due to the number of people - not hot at all. The warmer pools were completely packed with people. All pools were very dirty (brown and yellow colors). The locker rooms were very gross and I would hope that people scrub their feet to avoid athlete's foot after this experience. I don't really leave bad reviews, but even for the low price, I would not recommend it. Read other reviews and you will see a lot of people saying the same thing. I wish I had read them prior.
D B — Google review
This is a nice place to visit if you have some free time. It's about a 15 minute walk from the city. Don't expect a Japanese or Nortic style hot springs. The water has minerals and has a smell. It's not unclean but it's natural water. A lot of water that comes directly from the earth has a tint to it. It only costs $5 to get in. Bring your swimsuit and a towel. There are changing rooms and a bag check. The water is in the 90s F. There are several pools of different temperatures. But really this place is about the view. It can't be beat. It started getting busy around 5pm.
Virginia M — Google review
It's very busy. Make sure to get your ticket at the gate. If there's nobody there, you gotta wait for them. If you miss the ticket lady, you have to go all the way back down to buy one. The Entrance lady was very considerate. She let us pay at the entrance to the pools instead of sending us back down.

Mountains
Huayna Picchu is a steep peak known for the remnants of an ancient temple complex. It offers amazing aerial views of Machu Picchu and its natural surroundings, making it a bucket list adventure. The hike to the top provides panoramic views and a glimpse of original Inca buildings. Although the trail is demanding with narrow and steep steps, it's considered safe as long as hikers are cautious.
Views - out of this planet. Highlight of my Machu Picchu visit! The trail to the top is very steep, especially at the very end. I managed to climb it in ~50mins without sweating and with many breaks. It’s bedt to get there as early as possible, cause it might get very crowded.
Kisiel H — Google review
Hike is not for the faint-hearted. Plenty of sections with super steep stairs without railings. Otherwise the hike and view is more than worth it. Be careful of the people coming up and down, take your time! I took around 50 mins to hike up, moderately fit.
Tai Z — Google review
This is a review specifically for Huayna Picchu (also known as Wayna Pichhu) done in late August at the 7 am slot (toward end of peak season). Is it as dangerous as social media claims it to be? No. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Should you do it? If you are reasonably fit, acclimated and hydrated - yes. Think of it like climbing stairs for 1 hour. Is altitude a problem? Not if you have been in Cusco for at least 2 days and stayed in Aguas Calientes the night before. When should you do it? When it's dry and the early morning slot (7 am). At 11 am, it will get too warm and make it much more tiring, and the lighting will be harsh (for photography). Navigating the tourists & guides, and taking photos along the way, it took us 40-45 mins from the main entrance of Machu Picchu to the checkpost of Huayna Picchu. From there, the ascent to the top takes 50-60 mins at a moderate pace to 75 mins with frequent stops. Expect to spend around 20-30 mins at the top because it's a conjested area with footing that requires concentration + waiting for your turn to take photos. The descent takes ~45 mins. If you intend to explore the cavern and temple along the way, it will take longer. A bottle of water with a light snack (energy or protein bar, bananas) should be fine. You validate your ticket with your passport + sign a register at the checkpost. The initial section is a descent to the base of the mountain. From there, begins an hour long "Stairmaster" workout. Gradual pace is key. Take breaks as you need them . There are guard rails/ropes along the way for assistance. The final section - the infamous "Staircase of Death" is not "deadly". Just do what you will have been doing along the way and take it slow. By the way, you only take these stairs on the way up; separate route for the descent for this section. If you want to take photos here, take them on your way up. At the top, there is a natural "chair" rock formation where most people take their photos. For the best angle, the person taking the picture will need to climb the boulder facing it. Again, it's one way traffic so take your photos before you start the descent. It can get quite crowded there so be patient and even more careful with your footing. In the initial part of the descent, there is a tight rock squeeze requiring sideways maneuvering and crouching. You will be tempted to rush down after getting the high from the view and the eagerness to get down quickly...but, for the sake of your knees, I'd advise to just hold back a touch. Finally, you sign off on the register and take a different route back to the main entrance. If you have tickets for Route 2 or 1, you may be able to access them without having to leave the complex. We went down to Aguas Calientes for lunch and returned for the 3pm entry to Route 2 on the same day. Additional tips: book this at least 3 months in advance. Take the 7 am slot but line up at the bus station in Aguas Calientes at least an hour early. It took us around 2 hrs from joining the bus queue to the checkpost of Huayna Picchu. It will be chilly till you start hiking. You start warming up fast. Pack as light as you can. Be mindful of bugs at the top. Restrooms located at main entrance (2 soles) along with luggage storage (5 soles). Carry your physical passport with you at all times as it's required for ticket validation. Tickets' QR codes can be scanned from your phone.

Although the entrance is quite expensive l, it's worth it if you're an avid climber and an adrenaline junkie. The road is pretty steep and the stairs of death close to the top will sure give you a run for the money. If the weather is good, you'll have the best view of Machu Picchu.
Filip M — Google review
Huayna Picchu was a very difficult climb for us. It took us more than two hours to reach the top, and some of the steps were quite slippery and narrow. We had to stop often to catch our breath, especially with the altitude, but we took it slow and steady. The view from the top made it worth the effort. You get a full view of Machu Picchu from above, with stunning mountains and valleys all around. It is not an easy walk and not for everyone, but if you can manage it, I would highly recommend it.
River A — Google review
Throwback 2016. Started off at the base with a spring in my step. Hike was relatively easy, just enough incline to feel noble without triggering regret. The ancient Inca stairs added some drama, but nothing too wild unless your legs are made of noodles. Along the way, I even strolled beside an alpaca who looked like he was training for Machu Picchu’s next top model. At the top? A rock ledge barely big enough for a yoga mat, packed with humans rotating like rotisserie chickens trying to get that Machu Picchu shot. One wrong move and you’re part of the scenery.. permanently. Then came the real apex predators, prehistoric mosquitoes straight out of a sci-fi reboot. Massive, relentless, possibly descendants of the Incan gods themselves. They weren’t biting, they were harvesting. Still… the view? Worth every sting. A jaw-dropping panorama that made the mild chaos feel like part of the magic.
The G — Google review
Wonderful view of Machu Picchu and solid hike. I did not use or need hiking poles.

Great hike but not for the faint of heart! Or anyone with neck or back issues as there are a lot of stairs to climb.

Chauchilla Cemetery

Archaeological site
Sights & Landmarks
Cemeteries
Tours are offered of this ancient Nazca cemetery featuring mummified human remains & artifacts.
Tough one to rate. How do you “review” a place where looters have ransacked graves, leaving human bones scattered across the desert? It’s haunting, it’s fascinating, and it’s unsettling in a way that sticks with you. Full marks for the raw, unfiltered history—actual mummies still sitting in their tombs, preserved by the dry air. But the lack of funding shows. This isn’t some pristine archaeological site; it feels abandoned, which somehow makes it even more tragic. If you’re in Nazca, go. Just be prepared to leave with more questions than answers.
Rich P — Google review
Incredible place to see intact mummies from the Nazca culture. The cemetery is out in the desert and the feeling of desolation and emptiness is strong. Well worth a visit. Take water.
Gordon W — Google review
Very nice archeological site! Had to pay 8 soles per person for the entry and got some interesting knowledge while chatting with the ticket man
BeWeird ! — Google review
This place is amazing and needs to be saved. Already torn to pieces by graverobbers, who threw the mummified remains of the Nasca peoples into the desert. Some have been recreated but all grahe sites have been robbed of the pottery, jewlery, and other "valuables". This is a rare site where the mummies are kept on-site. Please go see this site and promote its protection and welfare. Be respectful and stay in the paths. Only 8 soles to get in and was one of our most memorable places we visited in Perú.
Sarah D — Google review
Very interesting place unique in its kind. Jeffrey was a great, friendly guide.
Eugenio C — Google review
A Nazca cemetery. Great to see how this civilization used to bury their loved ones. Unfortunately all the graves have been looted so there's little left of the pottery and utensils
Anto B — Google review
Remote desert area with around a dozen excavated, and sadly looted burial sites. Mummies are in various states of decay, but definitely worth checking out. There is even still some skin on one of them. Pots and bone fragments are in many of the graves. However, due to local corruption, none of the entrance money is used to preserve the mummies, with only an adobe wall to protect from the wind and a skimpy shade overhead. If nothing is done soon, these treasures will be lost forever and sadly no one in government seems to care.
Phil M — Google review
Pretty interesting place. We went there a few days ago and it is suppose to closed during the pandemic, but you can still get there, park your car, walk around and see the graves. It's an open space in the middle of nowhere, no one was there, we found some trash inside of a few graves.

Acueductos de Cantalloc

Ancient Ruins
Located about 4 kilometers from the center of Nazca, Acueductos de Cantalloc is an archaeological site that features a remarkable network of spiral stone aqueducts constructed by the ancient Nazca culture. These underground aqueducts, known as puquios, were designed to irrigate crops in the desert region. The channels were ingeniously roofed with stones and wood planks, and strategically placed access points allowed for cleaning and maintenance.
Amazing technology of the Nazca people on how they brought water to a desert. Worth going with a guide to truly appreciate how advanced the Nazca were. 2000 years ago this was built and is still being used today.
Sean R — Google review
Gotta hand it to the Nazca people—building something that still works 1,500 years later is no small feat. These ancient aqueducts are an engineering flex, and yeah, that’s pretty damn cool. But let’s be real: once you’ve seen one perfectly spiraled well in the desert, you’ve seen them all. The tour is quick, the history is fascinating, and if your itinerary has some breathing room, it’s worth a stop. Just don’t expect an Indiana Jones adventure—this one’s more of a casual nod to human ingenuity.
Rich P — Google review
Interesting site to admire technical skills of Inca. You can do a visit in 30 minutes. Taxi drive from city centre cots 10 Soles.
Jiří K — Google review
Fascinating and beautiful place. Incredible that it was made so long ago and still in use. The water was so fresh, and cool to be able to touch it - and the fish!
Sam S — Google review
Interesting place to visit, with impressive ancient aqueducts. The only downside is that there’s very little information on-site, so you don’t fully understand the history unless you look it up before. Still worth a quick stop!
Adrian H — Google review
It is quite amazing how the ancient people manage this . Most of acueductos are dry. But I like the idea they made. 10 soles for visiting (included other places)
Temsiri T — Google review
A fantastic piece of archaeology. Unfortunately not celebrated as a touristic destination, with no real notices describing the history etc. we hired a local guide, who was able to explain the structures
PALLAB R — Google review
Aside from the 17 spiralling holes and the 11km long aquaduct, you can also see a geoglyph in the shape of a puma’s head in the distance and prickly pear cacti with cochineals. As always, a good guide goes a long way.

Incredible Pre Colombian site. Nazca temple complex. To understand the lines understand the people. A guide is highly recommended. 1500 years before the Inca the Nazca lived in this desert environment. Amazing how they made a civilization in such harsh conditions.
Sean R — Google review
To get the best experience you probably need a guide who can explain about the design and purpose etc. if you just visit this on your own without any prior knowledge you will not really take in much apart from a few semi restored walls as there are no written instructions to indicate what you are looking at. There are toilets nearby but no shade. You can't go inside the grounds for the most part.
Louis T — Google review
The guide made this place interesting with all insights and stories. It’ll take probably 30 min on-site plus time to get there from Nazca. If you have some spare time, you’ll be happy to visit it and learn about Cahuachi!
Lukasz Z — Google review
The grandfather caretaker is a very humble, kind, old man. Spend some time talking to him. He is devoting the last years of his life to protecting this place. A wonderful powerful site in the middle of nowhere.
Katherine — Google review
We didn’t have much information about the side but our host recommended it. We drove with our own car and had a bit of a difficulty because google maps wanted to take us a road that was closed but with a bypass we made it. It’s easier to take the second entrance when you come from Nazcas. It’s a bit longer but the road is better. The side is really impressive and will give you and additional view about the Nazcas culture.
Aladar K — Google review
Amazing history at this place. Very interesting how the time of flourishing and greatest prosperity was 100ad to 300ad and then destruction cataclysmically around 400ad. Fascinating correlation with the history and timeframes documented in the Book of Mormon. Very large pyramids partially restored. Long dirt road to get there

Well worth the visit. I found it peaceful, calm, not too many people... almost a private feeling and peaceful. Very photogenic I found. Scenic. Well preserved. Gives more appreciation for Nazca.

Nazca Lines

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Nazca Desert is home to numerous geoglyphs, which are ancient and mysterious in origin. These massive lines were ingeniously carved by the Nazca people several centuries ago, forming various shapes such as animals, birds, pagan gods, and even an astronaut that can only be seen from high above in an aircraft. The Candelabra Geoglyph on Isla Ballestas is another similar attraction with a height of 150 meters and width of 50 meters.
The most awesome, weirdest thing I have ever seen in my life. Why did they draw the lines? How it was discovered... Make sure that you absolutely follow the instructions of the staff when doing the fly over, otherwise you will puke and be sick, guaranteed. Enjoy ) ah, and there are some cute shops nearby for souvenirs. Funny "google translate" signs around ) the flights are heavily dependent on the winds/weather, you might end up waiting a lot
Stefan P — Google review
It's a 7-hour drive from Lima to Nazca and even longer by bus. Nice views from the airplane to see the lines below, but pictures will not come out on phone camera. In other words, you have to be there to appreciate as you won't be able to share the details with others through pix. In addition to the flight fare, there are also local taxes you must pay.
Zisis B — Google review
We took a flight with AeroNazca and was very impressed. We got picked up from our hostel and dropped back after the flight. We were advised to take an early flight as the weather is generally worst/windy in the afternoon and this was good advice as the wind did indeed pick up in the afternoon..
Robbie T — Google review
Loved seeing this! We did not take the plane to get a view of all of the lines, however we felt that the view from the observation tower gave a fantastic idea and impression of the sheet size of the lines. Perfect!
Claudia A — Google review
First, i am impressed with how the lines were made. Next, do watch the video at the airport while you wait (and you will have to wait). Third, be very prepared for a bumpy ride. I do not get air or seasick but this made me feel a little queasy. If you have a UV and polarised filter for your camera lenses, do consider using them. Once the sun is high and strong enough, the pictures do not come out well.
Ken T — Google review
Extraordinary views from above. The only downside was a very long waiting time and nk clear order of who is boarding the plane
Jolanta P — Google review
Nazca lines are something special. Visit it by plane and enjoy the view. Be aware, planes are small and bumpy but worth it.

Hacienda Bodega Tacama

Wineries & Vineyards
Spacious & picturesque hacienda producing wine & offering free tours & tastings.
Viña Tacama is like a dream. We have been there 3 times, the third being for our wedding. This place is absolutely magical. The food is to die for, the wine delicious. We had their wine and food at our wedding and the guests loved it. They also have horses and do horse shows with dancers. The venue is perfect whether for a visit to the restaurant, a wine tour or for your special day :)
Sara T — Google review
Beautiful and large winery! Drive in was a little sketchy on a tiny dirt road, all of the sudden you get to a big gate for the winery complex. We took the 1 hour tour, would’ve loved to do the full tour but they said they don’t have any English speaking guide for that, which is unfortunate, they should’ve specified this on their website. The complex and tour was nice, however the tour guide wasn’t very passionate at all.
Maria R — Google review
I visited Tacama Winery with my parents and we had a very pleasant experience. The wine tasting with their sommelier was excellent with a good variety of wines which were all very good. The sommelier was friendly and explained a lot about the different types of wines and the tasting process in general. The stay in their restaurant was great aswell, with good food and good service. Also the tour around the winery itself, the guide and another small tasting were very enjoyable experiences and I personally learned a lot about wine making, the assortments of grapes and the history of Tacama Winery. Overall the personal is very well organised, the place is beautiful and the service is excellent. Of course their wines are just as good. Thanks for the amazing time
Nick — Google review
I had the best red wine I’ve had in my life here- el gran tinto. The causas were literally *chefs kiss*. There are different types of tours, and the traditional takes you through the wine making process as well as 3 cups of wine and one of pisco.
Kat F — Google review
Amazing experience! We celebrated the 30th birthday of one of us here during our stay in Perù. Not only the food was amazing, but the wine as well (both the White and Red wines were superb, comparable in taste and uniqueness to our Italians wines). We also received an unexpected present for the birthday! We would like to thank especially Raphael who was super expert in explaining all the different wines and food and made us appreciate 100% the lunch. We really would like to buy wines online to Italy from this winery.
Lorenzo P — Google review
Beautiful winery. The food was overly abundant and excellent. Ordering a bottle of wine with dinner came with custom explanation of aeration and decanting. The tour was insightful but wished the choice of wines for tasting ranged better across the dry to sweets.
Andrea M — Google review
A very nice experience of some wine tasting and learning about the wine making. Our guide wasn't the most passionate and could have been more engaging. The wine wasn't to my liking, but each to their own! Come here for a lovely day out and I hope you find a wine that takes your breathe away!

Splendid place to visit in Ica, one of the very first winery in South America. Love the place, which I could share more photos. The Arenas Sandboarding and dune buggy tour in Huacachina is a thrilling adventure that takes travelers on a ride through the mesmerizing desert dunes in dune buggies, providing an adrenaline-pumping experience as they soar over the sandy terrain. Additionally, visitors have the option to pair this tour with sandboarding down the steep slopes of the dunes for an added rush. The excursion also offers the opportunity to witness a breathtaking sunset over the picturesque landscape.
What a surreal place to find a lake in the mist of a desert! This place is gorgeous and full of adventures. So much fun! It was exhilarating boarding down the sand dunes and blasting through the area hills in the atv. While in ATV, hand tight and buckle up because you will be bounced around!

✨This place is just amazing...I am at a complete loss for words at the pure beauty of this place. Also a word of advice, take a picture of the map in the entrance and you can find your way easier. There are some places that literally have no cell service (it's part of a true nature experience right) 😁 ✨If you have the extra time, do visit here. Of course, since the part that made it look like a cathedral broke in 2007 but you can still see the cliffs and the animals around. It's so peaceful and the breeze is so great! Even as you look around all the different mountains have different colored sand over them. I haven't ever seen anything like it in my life! You look around and it's like waking up in a dream...it all looks like a huge painting and it's hard to believe it's real! Also the staff around were very nice and courteous, only problem we had was the entrance fee they take only soles, plus they do not accept cards. (We were scrambling for change in our car lol) Any of the bathrooms we visited were all clean and well stocked. Overall, I absolutely LOVED this experience!! I want to go back so badly!

If you haven’t been to the moon yet, this might be very close! Epic sceneries where you could stage your version of mad max 👍 don’t rent a bike cause will eat dust all day long and the hills are steep and the temperature is killing! There are some restaurants in the park and the deliver great food...
Rudi R — Google review
La cattedrale itself isn't very stunning in my opinion, but the view of the coastline is quite something. Rent a taxi and tell the driver to bring you to the scenic spots, it's quite cheap and you can move at your own pace. Expect to be done in 2-3 hours.
Dennis E — Google review
It may simply be land, water and air, however, the vastness makes you feel insignificant. Interesting place to visit. I would have wanted to spend more time here. Travelled with Peru Hop. Apparently this area plays a significant role in stabilising the ecosystem. The area is also rich in lithium. Well done to the government for protecting it.

Caught by surprise by how beautiful this reserve is! Went by taxi from Huacachina in the afternoon instead of with the tours in the morning and it was a good decision. Less people and beautiful sunset.

Lots of birds and interesting landscapes, worth a visit. We did a bus tour for 25 soles. There's restaurants that serve fresh fish but it's more expensive than the town. The red beach is interesting. The reserve is beautiful. The process of purchasing tickets and boarding the boat for travel is confusing. Thankfully the tour guide was able to the information in both English and Spanish. Absolute must see when in Paracas and should be on the Peru's must see lists. Beautiful views on every view point. Easily accessible on a day trip by bicycle, scooter or car. Just skip the Lagunillas restaurants, they are mostly tourists traps and you can eat much better food for the same price in Paracas.

Marcahuasi (Markawasi) Stone Forest

Nature & Parks
Geologic Formations
Nestled in the Andes, Marcahuasi, also known as Markawasi, is a breathtaking stone forest that promises an unforgettable adventure. A group of friends from Lima recently explored this stunning destination and found it to be a remarkable experience. They stocked up on camping supplies in town, renting tents and sleeping gear for their journey. However, they discovered that their tent was quite cramped for two tall individuals—definitely something to consider if you're planning a similar trip!
Me and a couple friends from Lima had a great time at the Stone Forest. We got supplies in town rented tents, sleeping bags, and bed mats. The tent was a little small or actually pretty cramped for two people at 6 feet tall. Very cool at night - 5 degrees Celsius so the sleeping bags we're not actually rated to this level so be sure and bring some extra blankets and warm gear. I suggest hats gloves at night time because it's really cold. The views are absolutely incredible so gorgeous such a powerful and peaceful place. I would highly recommend anyone to go we packed all over gear in ourselves so you can either do that or you can rent a donkey or take the bus or car to the top. Daytime temperatures were very warm absolutely beautiful wonderful wonderful walk. I would highly suggest taking the longer route. Enjoy and if you're lost you sure to turn on your location through Google and you'll be able to find your way using GPS positioning.

Very beautiful natural place, at an altitude of 4000 m, with also well preserved chullpas (pre-Inca tombs, Recuay culture, VIIth c.) and dead city. But: - the inhabitants of San Pedro de Casta are a little damaged by mass tourism: not so welcoming. - you have to pay a tax of 15 soles per person (50% inflation in 2 years...; 30 soles for foreigners), for ZERO SERVICE, except the maintenance of an earth track (and without a sign at the start: do not not pass under the Marcahuasi gantry in 4 * 4 but ; if we had to pay as much for each track in the country, no more people would be able to move) and uninteresting stone "facilities" that are hardly useful to anyone. - hordes of limenios pitch their tent on weekends, imposing on others their noise (music to their individual taste) until late and leaving their garbage on site (too tiring to bring back what they have been able to bring for themselves) - in the village: no public water, the small Museum is closed, and nobody had the key of the church on that day either.
Etienne M — Google review
Fantastic views from this place but the trek is NOT easy if you plan to take all of your camping equipment but yourself (I'd strongly recommend taking a donkey). One extremely important thing to note is that there are two paths once you walk half way up. (the 'short' and the 'long' path). Do not be fooled by this, the short path is steeper and will get you to the entrance of Marcahuasi quicker but it is at least another 1km from the entrance to the camp site so you are MUCH better taking the easier, longer route as they both equate to the same distance to the campsite (overall). Once you're at the top, it is absolutely breath taking but prepare for a lot of loud noise from dogs and donkeys at the top (morning and night). Also, bring your own firewood as the firewood we bought from the vendors was pretty useless.

Huaca Pucllana Site Museum is an ancient pre-Inca archaeological site situated in Miraflores, offering a captivating journey into Lima's pre-Columbian history. The clay and adobe pyramid complex provides valuable insights into the indigenous cultures that once thrived in the region. Guided tours are available to enhance the understanding of the site's historical significance, making it an educational destination for history enthusiasts, archaeology buffs, and families with older children.
2000+ years of history packed into the center of Miraflores. A must see when visiting Lima to acquire some of the history and respect for previous civilization. The adobe architecture is incredible as millions of bricks were assembled into the pyramid that took hundreds of years to assemble. Get to see some of the agriculture and animals of Peru - guinea pigs and alpacas. The museum offers some insight, but the real value is the guided tours that leave every 30 minutes and are offered in both English and Spanish. Cost of entry is S/ 15, about $4 (includes the tour)

The tour was excellent! It lasted about 40 minutes, and the guides were very knowledgeable. The ruins are in the middle of Miraflores, right next to a great restaurant with a beautiful view of the site. Just note that the night tour doesn’t allow you to go to the top of the ruins — that’s only possible during the day.

An incredible archaeological site in the heart of Miraflores! 🏛️ The 2,000-year-old adobe pyramid showcases the remarkable craftsmanship of ancient builders. The 40-minute guided tour (S/15, available in English or Spanish) is informative and engaging. Note: the night tour doesn’t include access to the top, but we took it and still loved the experience. A must-visit for history lovers in Lima!
Manjeet D — Google review
I recommend going here for the last tour at 4 pm before the first closing time. You'll see the place come alive from the warm light and shadows by the sun being relatively low in the sky. Just don't miss the tour - you cannot roam around alone. The tour is included in the very reasonable ticket price of 15 soles. Also mind the instructions and do not step on the adobe tiles.

Fascinating study of the dedication of the ancients in building structures covering great areas with handmade vertical bricks. On some you can even see their hand and finger prints! Our guide shared a wide scope of knowledge from all of those who lived here, their customs, foods they planted and consumed, burial rites, beliefs, skills... He was a great guide to his heritage and this enormous site in the middle of the city. (Unfortunately, there is a listing for a "minizoo" here. While seeing the 7 famous llamas, alpacas and dozens+ guinea pigs was an interesting part of the tour...that does Not qualify the Very minimum pen and feeding bin as a "zoo." There is a genuine one elsewhere. The handful of indigenousanimals here are just to enlighten visitors as to the animals the original denizens had for food, like the well-planted garden.) This is a healthy, enlightening educational walk through an amazing ancient world. (PS- Please bring some currency to show your appreciation to your fascinating guide!!)
The V — Google review
I want to say I loved it, listen - it's historical and the guide was good. Spoke very good English and the Llamas / Guinea pigs at the end are cute. It's interesting, and they're still excavating. The tour takes little under an hour.. tips for the guide are nice! They do a good job. You walk up some steepish parts, and it's sandy - so don't wear slides. ;) Worth a visit... And the restaurant overlooking the ruins is fab! But gets busy. There are other restaurants just outside too. (Not overlooking the ruins) If you're in Lima and like history.. go. I was just a little bit bored at times. 🙊

Huaca Pucllana: 4000-year-old pyramid, check. Boring guide who puts you to sleep, check. If you're gonna make me walk on ancient genius pyramid, at least make the tour entertaining. Suggestion: skip the guide and hit up the Larco Museum first. Learn more over there Trust me, you'll be way more impressed when you finally get to the real education. And honestly, just read the Wikipedia page, you'll learn more. Need tour guide and takes about one hour.

The Magic Water Circuit of the Reserve Park, situated in Lima's Parque de la Reserva, is a captivating attraction featuring 13 fountains that come alive with colorful lights and laser beams at night. This mesmerizing display of water, light, and music offers an enchanting experience for families, art enthusiasts, and anyone seeking visually stunning entertainment. Visitors can enjoy nightly performances showcasing choreographed light displays amidst the dancing waters.
What a fun place!! The light show was very cool. Make sure you check the times for that;) Cheap entrance fee, but be prepared for little kids to want to get tickets for ball pits and bounce houses, etc... You can easily spend half a day here, or just come and see the show and be on your way! Beautiful fountains. Clean and well-kept areas. Plenty of restrooms, for a small fee, of course.

It was like Las Vegas to me. I found out about this place through trip advisor tours and they were charging like $24. I took a taxi from Barranco and paid 5 soles for entrance. Much better going by my own versus paying extra money. It was fun!

I really affordable fun experience for families with young children. You can definitely spend more money if you indulge in the amusements inside, but overall a really relaxing way to spend an evening in Lima I took some pictures of the amusement pricing to share here There are three showings a night of the projected show on the main fountain It does make a difference in visibility to be right at the center Concessions inside are pretty reasonably priced

The Magic Water Circuit in Lima is a beautiful and unique experience, even during the day. While most people recommend going at night for the lights and music, we visited during the day due to our airport schedule and still really enjoyed it. The fountains are stunning, the park is well maintained, and it’s a peaceful place to walk around and take photos. You can still appreciate the creativity and variety of the water displays without the nighttime light show. A great stop if you’re looking for something relaxing and scenic in the city! The only bothering thing was that they charge for using the bathroom even once you have paid to get in.

Such a beautiful park, I Kept walking past my park as I was walking around the city & every time I looked through & saw the fountains I thought I must go but nothing quite prepared me for just how beautiful it was. It is a family park so be prepared for lots of family activities & you do pay extra for certain rides, experience & entry but for me it was equivalent of a mini Disney land so the prices were beyond reasonable & the queues were nothing in comparison of what you might expect in European parks with a Sumatra offering in my experience. I highly recommend spending the day into the evening here so you get the full daylight & evening experience. Do make sure your phone is fully charged as you may want to take 1000 photos 🤣! Enjoy.

The size of a small village, this theme park type attraction has 13 fountains dotted around, fun fair rides, food stalls, kids play area, a land train. A few times a day a water display occurs much to the delight of all.

The evening water show is so cool and a great mix of water, lights, and projections to show Pervuian culture. There's also games and other activities for kids to do. The toilets are clean and provided toilet paper, though you do pay 1.50 soles to use.

It’s a nice place to spend an afternoon/evening and escape the streets a bit. There are various fountains and also a butterfly house (only 2 species are alive in winter mai to September I guess). The entry fee is 5 soles we had to pay an extra 5 soles for the tunnel/2nd part as there is a Te Amo Peru festival with various installations. Moreover there is an additional fee of 8 soles for the butterfly house. And there is also a Jurassic park/world exhibit which would be an additional 8 soles (we didn’t do that). There are plenty of games for children some food stands and the laser/light show in the evening is also a nice touch.

Lima Main Square, also known as Plaza de Armas or Plaza Mayor, is a historic and iconic public space located in the heart of Lima's historic center. It holds great significance as the birthplace of Lima and played a pivotal role in Peru's history, being the site where Jose de San Martin proclaimed independence for the country.
Lima Main Square is a stunning blend of colonial architecture, vibrant energy, and rich history. The colorful buildings, the Cathedral, and the Government Palace make it picture-perfect from every angle. The square feels safe, well-maintained, and lively with street performers and locals relaxing. It’s a great place to walk around, take photos, or just sit and soak in the atmosphere. A must-visit if you’re in Lima!

Nice square with colonial style and architecture, typical for similar plazas actor South America. There are some important buildings around to see. In principal, this is the most worth seeing site of the old part of the city, which otherwise doen not have much to offer.

Beautiful central area with lots of interesting sites in a walkable area including Convent of Santo Domingo, the Catacombs, many shops and restaurants. Great just to walk down the streets, grab an ice cream or a cocktail or check out the many vendors offering everything from alpaca clothing to T-shirts. All around the area are little rounded statuettes of women. I found one covered, instead of colorful paints, with reflective surface. One large stone commemorates the original Inca governing people of the area. Beautiful buildings with a variety of architectures. And the gorgeous tall water fountain in the very center of the square.

An impressive square with many historic buildings. When I was there, I enjoyed not only that, but also the fantastic parade with a wide variety of traditional costumes and music. It was wonderful to see and experience.

I recently traveled from Cusco to Lima, Peru, and was met with widespread protests. The police presence was heavy, with officers carrying full sets of weapons. The streets were blocked with trash and feces, making it difficult to navigate. To stay safe, we kept our distance and observed from afar. Areas like Miraflores and Barranco felt more secure than the city center.
SPICY — Google review
We spent a leisurely day exploring the heart of Lima and made our way to the city’s beautiful main square—Plaza Mayor, also known as Plaza de Armas. This historic square is the birthplace of Lima, founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 1535, and has remained the political and cultural center of the city ever since. Surrounding the square are several of Lima’s most important colonial-era buildings, including the Government Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace, the Municipal Palace, and the Lima Cathedral. The blend of Spanish colonial architecture and vibrant local activity gives the square a timeless charm. While we were there, we were fortunate to witness a Catholic procession passing through the square—an experience that brought the city’s deep-rooted religious traditions to life. The area is perfect for capturing great photos, soaking in the local atmosphere, and appreciating Lima’s rich history and living culture.

Impressive architecture especially beautiful at night when the buildings are lit up at night. A visit into the cathedral is a must. The third Sunday in each month, there is a worthwhile tattoo by the Peruan military guard troop in the presidential courtyard.

The Larco Museum, located in the district of Pueblo Libre, is a former mansion turned into a museum that showcases an extensive collection of pre-Columbian artifacts. The museum offers a comprehensive overview of 5,000 years of Peruvian history, art, and culture through its well-curated galleries. Visitors can explore ancient ceramics and textiles while strolling through lush gardens. Guided tours are available for deeper insights into the significance of the exhibits.
This museum isn't very big but it has amazing pieces. I would really recommend a guided tour which is offered at an extra 10 soles - it really does a much better job of explaining what we are looking at. Very interesting pieces divided in 3 areas: the main museum (perhaps 5-6 rooms), the erotic gallery, and visible storage. The surroundings are also very nice and there is a great fancy restaurant too. A big tip would be to come early: we got there at 10-ish and had a tour just for both of us; by the time we were going out there were lines for tickets and the museum was very crowded.

Beautiful museum of artifacts from ancient Peruvian civilizations, including ceramics, textiles, and metalwork. The exhibits are nicely curated, and the collection is huge, but for an entry fee of 50 soles I would've expected a bit more variety and some other content than just constant display cases with accompanying text. Very interesting, but after a while it gets a little boring. Beside the main museum there's a separate exhibit for "erotic" artifacts, mainly pottery portraying sexually explicit scenes. It's included in the main ticket price. There's also a souvenir shop and a restaurant on site. There are explanatory texts in several languages for all exhibits, so English speakers for example can easily follow along. There's also an audio guide available, but this we didn't try. We spent approximately two hours walking through the museum, stopping briefly at most exhibits.

The Larco Museum in Lima is one of Peru’s finest museums and a must-visit for anyone interested in history and culture. Housed in an 18th-century colonial mansion, it features an outstanding collection of pre-Columbian art, including ceramics, textiles, metalwork, and jewelry from ancient civilizations like the Moche, Nazca, and Inca. One of its highlights is the world-famous gallery of erotic pottery, which is both fascinating and unique. The museum also offers beautifully curated exhibits with clear explanations in multiple languages, making it easy to understand Peru’s rich cultural heritage. The gardens and café add to the experience, creating a relaxing atmosphere after exploring the galleries. Perfect for culture lovers, history buffs, and anyone wanting a deeper understanding of Peru before (or after) visiting its archaeological sites.

An excellent way to familiarise yourself with the various cultures of Peru, both Incan and Pre-Incan. Lots to see so probably allow around 90 minutes. It is slightly cheaper to book a ticket in advance online than pay at the museum. The small gardens are very colourful. Worth going here and combining with the National archaeological and anthropology museum, which is about a 20 minute walk away.

This is a must to visit if you make it to Lima Peru. There are about 45k of antiques found in different sites in the whole Peru. They belong to the pre Inca culture. It is so surprised to see how well they all were preserved after 2000 or 5000 years underground. I did not have much time there for the last visit but next time when I come back I think I will spend a whole day here. Highly recommended.

🌟 An unforgettable experience—leave yourself plenty of time! Visited on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 with reservations from 5–7pm. We arrived early but were overdue for dinner, so we hit the restaurant before exploring the museum. Though that left us only about an hour inside. Despite the short visit, every detail of the museum, restaurant, and grounds impressed me. 🍽️ The restaurant is beautifully designed—definitely a bit upscale for my “hole-in-the-wall” tastes, but still worth the stop. Prices are on the higher side. 🌺 The grounds are stunning, with vibrant flowers everywhere and photo-worthy views around every corner. 🏺 The museum exhibits are top-notch, A+. What can be said about this collection that hasn't already been said? The quality, detail, and condition of these artifacts that are hundreds and thousands of years old, are second to none. Simply extraordinary. I'd recommend 3-5 hours or more if you really want to absorb and appreciate everything. So I'll definitely be returning for another visit as 1–2 hours isn’t nearly enough. 🗣️ Guided tours in Spanish are available for 10 soles and last about an hour. They didn’t offer English tours during our visit, but I believe they do offer them. They provide self-guided audio devices in English for the same price—I'll try that next time because I'm a fan of moving at my own pace. 🎁 Gift shop: Prices are steep, but it's a welcome addition. Far too many sites in Peru lack gift shops and miss the opportunity to cash in on visitors after the experience. People want souvenirs and they're willing to pay for them! 📍 Overall: This is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Lima. Don’t rush it—plan time to explore, then unwind with a meal or drink afterward.

Good things first: + Lots of variety + Lots of fun + Many things to take photos of + Some animals + Great view of the ocean + Very interesting entertainment Down sides: - Pool closed - A little too commercialized - Sometimes too crowded - Some very poor maintenance in some parts - Would be better if they hid their speaker devices in walls instead of having a huge chunky boombox with sound coming through it, in a setting intended to be historical The show with the dancers and magicians was one of the highlights for me. I also loved that I could take photos with some wild birds.

Crowded and disorderly. The building was incomplete. They had living eagles tethered to trainers so that people could have their photos taken for s/ 10, but the animals where in distress. The food at the resturant was decent and the haunted house was short but well done. This is an affordable place to take kids but I would say that it is a 4th rate attraction at best

Maria R — Google review
Wow where do I begin...this place was just way too amazing for words. I absolutely loved it. I want to go back already! So basically through every area is a theme throughout history with actors interacting with small groups on tours throughout. Some themes include Peru, Egypt, Camelot, Aztec, Babylon, Greece, Rome, and many many more. There are too many to really remember to be honest. My favorite was Egypt. And being able to see Anubis I was just in awe. I can't obviously ever go to the real Egypt so this will be the closest I can get for now ☺️ The only major complaints I have are there is a TON of stairs...oh my gosh! I am unsure if we just missed where the elevators were to go back downstairs or if they were going for the "old castle" theme and there are none. Next time we go we are having my daughter either walk on her own or ride on our shoulders. Also we went to a beautiful restaurant and they had cats meandering around while we ate. It was kind of weird and I'm not that into cats. Make sure at least they aren't where your diners are eating at least please! Among all the attractions there you can also: *Swim: (they have a huge pool I think it's 10 soles a person to get in) take a swimming suit and change of clothes! *Shop: there are many artisan places to shop inside and souvenir shops as well. I love that about Peru, support the artisans and small business! *Eat: there are a few restaurants inside you can pay in the entrance to make a reservation. (People outside are too pushy and it freaked me out they practically swamped us in the car yelling at us with thier menu papers) *I think there is also a hotel. I would love to stay there. *Parking: it's 10 soles a day total and they only take cash (just a heads up) You can also hold a hawk for 10 soles and take pictures with it. That was so cool and it was such a pretty bird too! Overall it was a great experience. I can't wait to go back!

Pastoruri Glacier, a receding, bowl-shaped glacier spanning 3.1 square miles, is a popular destination for hikers and ice climbers. Located near Yungay, approximately 50 kilometers north of Huaraz, visitors can reach the glacier by taking buses or shared taxis from Huaraz to Yungay and then continuing with an organized tour or hiring a local guide. The high-altitude location at over 5,000 meters makes it ideal for acclimatization.
We went here on the 5th day of staying in the Huaraz area. We were a little afraid of the altitude over 5000 m, but honestly this minihike was a lot easier than for example Laguna 69, despite being 500 metres higher 😅 The glacier is beautiful and the surrounding area is even more beautiful!
Lucie Š — Google review
The place is not bad. Glacier is small but still okay. This place has a high altitude (>5.000 mdpl) so good for acclimation. However, the tour we joined was dissapointing. They stopped in an expensive restaurants, twice, each 1 hour. Meanwhile, we only got a bit of time to enjoy the glaciers (around 20 mins). The tour guide was so defensive and she speaks 0 english. It’s more a scam than a proper tour.

Churup Lake

Lake

Bodies of Water
Nestled at an altitude of 4,480 meters, Churup Lake is renowned for its stunning clear, blue-green waters. The hike to the lake takes about two hours and can be quite challenging due to steep sections where metal chains are used for assistance. However, the breathtaking beauty of the lake makes it all worthwhile. Accessible via a colectivo to Pitec and a subsequent trek, this adventure offers diverse landscapes that only get more captivating as you ascend.
This is a location about 40 minutes by motorcycle from the center of Huaraz. You can stop at the parking lot and start climbing the mountain. Most of the path consists of stairs; it's not exactly a trail for easy walking, but rather steps. You'll climb the steps for about 90 minutes to reach the destination. In terms of difficulty, it's not easy—it's quite challenging. At an altitude of over 4000 meters, each step is very tough, exhausting, and requires good physical preparation and a strong spirit. However, when you arrive, you'll find it very worthwhile. Up there, you'll find a waterfall and a very beautiful lake. You can bring food for a picnic here. The descent is easier, but be very careful. This is a very popular spot, and there were quite a few people there on the day I visited. The entrance fee is 30 sol per person, and parking is free. They have no food and drink to sell up there!

Beautiful spot for an easy acclimatisation hike 6km return trip. You can get there using a colectivo bus.

A good acclimatization hike, take an 1-hr collectivo from huaraz to reach the trail head at Pitec, 20 soles round trip. Some steep parts of the path have cable installed, quite fun to climb.

Laguna Churup, standing at 4486 meters above sea level, is one of the most notable one-day hikes from Huaraz. With easy access via public transportation or taxi, it takes just about 40 minutes to reach the starting point, allowing you to enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the city before embarking on the adventure. The hike begins in Pitec, at 3830 meters (the boundary of Huascarán National Park). It is a steep path requiring constant physical effort, including a rocky section where you need to climb using a metal chain. However, there is an alternative route to the left of the final stretch for those who prefer to avoid the climb. Although the entire trail covers only 3.3 km (each way), it is technically more challenging than the famous Laguna 69. Therefore, it is important not to underestimate this hike and to acclimatize properly by undertaking easier hikes near Huaraz. Upon reaching Laguna Churup, you will be rewarded with the sight of its slender, crystal-clear emerald waters. As an added bonus, you can visit Laguna Churupita, located at 4600 meters, from Laguna Churup, requiring just an extra 2 hours of planning.

Stunning views, even with cloudy and misty weather. Go up with a colectivo (ask around where to find it) and they will take you up; they will be able to take you down again, you just have to wait for them to come back to the top. It can take sometime for it to depart as it needs to be full, both ways, so it can also be quite an uncomfortable ride as it will literally be bursting with local people going up and down the hills. Important note: despite your hostel maybe not recommending that you take a guide, please do. It is very important to know your way, especially when getting closer to the lake. We went up with reduced visibility and rainy weather. You have to literally climb some of the sections with the help of chains on very very slippery rocks (see pics and video); it is extremely dangerous and in any other country the path would be closed during rainy weather. At the end of the path, there are no more indications. We reached the lake out of luck and guidance of other trekkers, via an irregular path since we could not find the way to the miradoro. Gorgeous, but adrenaline inducing

Amazing views, did the hike early at 530am, taxi from huaraz is 50 soles to Pitec, moderate to difficult at times but great for acclimatation, all the way to second lake is almost 5000m

Laguna Churup is so worth the visit! Taking about 2 hours for someone who has recently arrived in huaraz and is not used to the altitude, and perhaps shorter for someone who has been here a little longer. It's not an easy walk, but just wait till you arrive at the lake! And adventurous hike, at parts using metal chains to grab and pull yourself up as its steep, however if you dont want to go through these parts, you can take the left path before so. The lake is a green and blue colour, it is amazing from all parts!

Beautiful lake, but be prepared for steep way. You have to make 700m up in 5km. It was quite difficult, because of altitude. We got some headache and earache. Drink a lot of water and enjoy breathtaking views.

Main Square of Huaraz

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Main Square of Huaraz, also known as Plaza de Armas, is a charming public space adorned with topiary and a central fountain. Visitors can immerse themselves in the vibrant local culture by exploring bustling markets offering handmade textiles and traditional crafts while savoring local cuisine. The square provides opportunities to take pictures with alpacas or llamas and gather information about tours.
This plaza is a great place to come and be around (and watch) people while you are in Huaraz! The backdrop of the park is a great place for taking photos to remember your visit. There is a lot of attention paid to maintaining the green spaces and there are people watching to make sure that visitors don't cross fences and step on the plants. For the month and a half that we stayed in Huaraz, there were so many events going on that I can bet you'll catch something while you're there, especially if you come on the weekend.

Very vibrant and full of life, beautiful plaza. As with a lot of places around the world, be vigilant about pickpocketing and robbers, we had one man follow us from mamma mia cafe to the plaza and sit right next to my friend on his phone (extremely confident) i wanted to say something but my friend advised me to not to and she is a local from lima

Bautiful plaza de Armas with the usual church, fontain and mamy opportunities ro sit down and watch the surroundings. There is always something happening, like a parade, people singing, dancing, street vendors. Most of the time you can get drinks, ice cream, popcorn or other sorts of food.

"The Plaza de Armas in Huaraz is such a charming spot! It’s surrounded by colorful gardens, tall palm trees, and has amazing views of the snow-capped mountains in the distance. Locals gather here to relax, chat, and enjoy the sunshine, and there’s always something going on – from street vendors selling snacks to musicians playing traditional tunes. It’s the perfect place to sit on a bench, people-watch, and soak up the atmosphere before heading to explore the nearby cafes and shops

The square was very busy due to carnival festivities. The music was lovely and the kids bands were bright and cheerful. I will return for a slower day soon. The grounds are well maintained and pretty.

It is a nice park to visit when the sun is out. You can also walk from here to the oldest barrio in the city. There were major earthquakes in the 40s and 70s that leveled the town. Only a small area survived. It is close to the anthropological museum as well.
