Discover the stunning Congreso de la Republica del Perú, also known as the National Congress of Peru, which has been a symbol of governance since its establishment following Peru's independence in 1821. This architectural gem offers free daily tours conducted in Spanish, showcasing its rich history and breathtaking interiors. While English tours may be available depending on demand, it's essential to bring your passport for identification.
The Peruvian Congress gets 5 stars for the arquiecture alone

Seems like a nice building from the outside, but there’s obvious racism at the gates. Bunch of locals went in but the guy shuts the gate in our faces saying “no” and pretending he doesn’t understand. Peruvian hospitality...

Nice building, but you only get to see it from outside. The small museum located on the same square didn't look appealing enough for me to enter.
Raoul G — Google review
It was a nice little stop. But I did notice a couple of young fellers eyeing my camera and following me around. There are lots of police nearby and the shops are pricey. The Catacombs are worth the trip if you have never seen thousands of skeleton bones. Save your money for Puno by Lake Titicaca, prices are very cheap there at the local markets. Cusco was a little pricey. Machu Picchu was extremely pricey. Bolivia was ok for prices as well, but Puno was the best.
Robert S — Google review
Free tours, but bring your passport for identification. Free English tours may not run if there aren't enough people.

Pretty building. Not sure how pretty the activities inside are. There seems to be a lot of cop-polishing going on

Alameda Chabuca Granda is a bustling park in Lima's historic center, named after the renowned Peruvian singer and songwriter Chabuca Granda. Visitors can stroll along the Rimac River boardwalk and enjoy various fairs, festivals, and performances including dance, comedy, and concerts. The park offers a unique viewpoint with a red sculpture at its center, providing an overview of the city.
The place can be pretty crowded at night but I love the sense of community that's there and the view at the edge of the park is phenomenal
Rimsky R — Google review
Chabuca Granda, for those who know a little of her history, was a Peruvian Creole singer, very well-known for her song "La Flor de la Canela. This is a great place to walk around, taste some sweet treats and some truly amazing street food. You will find some great street performers here. They have revamped the place now and the food stalls are nice and clean. So you can enjoy the food here.
Sweeton D — Google review
Viewpoint in Lima: The Alameda Chabuca Granda The Alameda Chabuca Granda is a viewpoint located between the Government Palace and the Rímac River in Lima's historic city center. It is a place frequented by locals as well as visitors to the city, and this is largely due to its location. Because there aren't too many places in Lima from which you can get an overview of the city. The park, which has a strange red sculpture in the middle, also offers a lot of variety. This makes the Alameda Chabuca Granda the right place for entire families, young people, singles and couples. The viewpoint and its park are named after the Peruvian singer Chabuca Granda, who is known for her Creole waltzes and Afro-Peruvian rhythms.
Karin S — Google review
Good place to walk around and enjoy street food. A lot of comedy and singing shows were going on
GIRUBA S — Google review
A very popular but crowded gathering point. Always music and singing and other performances. Usually by people asking for money. If you like crowded and noisy places, this is for you!

I will say that the only thing I like about this place are "Picarones" from a lady's selling cart named "Paula". The "Picarones" are amazingly delicious 😋
Gaby — Google review
Interesting park or local hangout. Lots of odd seats and art work and spaces for small amphitheatres. You will find lots of locals just hanging out and eating their lunch.
MadeBy V — Google review
It's a great place to hang out, with street vendors offering tasty food like anticuchos or pastries like "mazamorra morada" or "arroz con leche"; there's also entertainment with a couple of shows featuring street artists every night.

Beautifully renovates. Great family vacation option. Stayed at the Camelot hotel with a gorgeous view of the ocean. Sunsets from there are breathtaking. Staff is supper friendly and goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome.

This is the Disney Land of Peru. If are in Chancay, come and have some fine. Awesome staff. Lots of activities and performance.

Good things first: + Lots of variety + Lots of fun + Many things to take photos of + Some animals + Great view of the ocean + Very interesting entertainment Down sides: - Pool closed - A little too commercialized - Sometimes too crowded - Some very poor maintenance in some parts - Would be better if they hid their speaker devices in walls instead of having a huge chunky boombox with sound coming through it, in a setting intended to be historical The show with the dancers and magicians was one of the highlights for me. I also loved that I could take photos with some wild birds.
Ice W — Google review
Crowded and disorderly. The building was incomplete. They had living eagles tethered to trainers so that people could have their photos taken for s/ 10, but the animals where in distress. The food at the resturant was decent and the haunted house was short but well done. This is an affordable place to take kids but I would say that it is a 4th rate attraction at best
Jason S — Google review
It's a beautiful place but surrounded by the town and its buildings
Maria R — Google review
Wow where do I begin...this place was just way too amazing for words. I absolutely loved it. I want to go back already! So basically through every area is a theme throughout history with actors interacting with small groups on tours throughout. Some themes include Peru, Egypt, Camelot, Aztec, Babylon, Greece, Rome, and many many more. There are too many to really remember to be honest. My favorite was Egypt. And being able to see Anubis I was just in awe. I can't obviously ever go to the real Egypt so this will be the closest I can get for now ☺️ The only major complaints I have are there is a TON of stairs...oh my gosh! I am unsure if we just missed where the elevators were to go back downstairs or if they were going for the "old castle" theme and there are none. Next time we go we are having my daughter either walk on her own or ride on our shoulders. Also we went to a beautiful restaurant and they had cats meandering around while we ate. It was kind of weird and I'm not that into cats. Make sure at least they aren't where your diners are eating at least please! Among all the attractions there you can also: *Swim: (they have a huge pool I think it's 10 soles a person to get in) take a swimming suit and change of clothes! *Shop: there are many artisan places to shop inside and souvenir shops as well. I love that about Peru, support the artisans and small business! *Eat: there are a few restaurants inside you can pay in the entrance to make a reservation. (People outside are too pushy and it freaked me out they practically swamped us in the car yelling at us with thier menu papers) *I think there is also a hotel. I would love to stay there. *Parking: it's 10 soles a day total and they only take cash (just a heads up) You can also hold a hawk for 10 soles and take pictures with it. That was so cool and it was such a pretty bird too! Overall it was a great experience. I can't wait to go back!

(Translated by Google) Municipal Museum of Chancay, a small place in the main square of the city of Chancay, where you can see a very good collection of pieces from the culture of the city of the same name. Its value lies in how well preserved the pieces on display are regarding the Cuchimilcos and their textiles. Although there is a guide service in the admission brochure, it was not available. However, it was not an impediment to knowing and learning with the help of the information in the infographics. In addition to the archaeological pieces, you can also see a little information about the Gulet Virgen de La Covadonga and items that were rescued from it by local fishermen. Of course, it would be good if they had bilingual staff in case a tourist or a national arrives who needs additional information. My congratulations to the mayor who has allowed us to have this beautiful museum and my thanks to the staff who serve it for their willingness to make the visit a very pleasant moment.

(Translated by Google) It is located in front of the square, next to the Municipality. It is small but has several objects on display. The people who attended were friendly but they were talking and you felt like you were interrupted when you entered because the conversation could be heard on all three floors. It would be good if the souvenirs to buy were separate since it is uncomfortable to see them, interrupting the lady serving. The schedules are at the entrance. The visit does not take long and costs only S/. 3 adults, so I recommend it (Original) Se encuentra al frente de la plaza, junto a la Municipalidad. (Translated by Google) I visited him yesterday, a few minutes after returning to Lima. A fairly comfortable price (I don't remember if 2.5 or 3 soles for adults); You can learn the legacy of the great Chancay civilization and others that arrived in the area. Everything well explained; There is plenty of pottery, textiles and even feather art. Also the representation of a Chancay burial and the miniature replica of the Covadonga, the Chilean ship sunk in the Pacific War. There is pride in local history; highly recommended. It's not very big but you learn a lot.

(Translated by Google) The museum has improved a lot with the investment injected by the Pan-Americans. The rate is very cheap, ranging from 1 to 3 soles. Adults: S/. 3.00 University students: S/2.00 Children: (6 - 17 years): S/2.00 Schoolchildren (after coordination): S/1.00 On the first floor there is pre-Hispanic art explaining the Chancay culture with archaeological pieces of very good quality. On the other hand, on the second floor we have contemporary art with works of art of very good quality. For children we have interactive games on a screen where they can learn about culture in a very educational way. Finally, if you love photos you have several points where you can take excellent memories for posterity: 1. The boat that expresses the main productive activity of fishing, which is an important pillar of the city to this day. 2. The Cuchimilco at the entrance of the museum, in commemoration of the 2019 Pan-American Games, is a quick review of the classic iconography of ancient Peru, its open arms, the cuchimilcos of the Chancay culture (1200-1470 AD) resemble small babies waiting for Someone please carry them. It almost provokes making them 'cuchicuchi'. 3. In the basement there is a very beautiful mural that represents the landscape of the Chancay culture. It is worth mentioning that the museum has an elevator for seniors and disabled people.

Lachay Hills

National park
Nature & Parks
This mountainous, 12,500-acre national park is a destination for hiking, camping & bird-watching.
Absolutely amazing! Huge (5 hectares) national park in a couple of hours car ride north from Lima. Its a beautiful green oasis in the middle of the dessert full of plants, flowers and singing birds!!! There are 3 hiking trails - 30 min, 1 hour and 2 hours. The longest is blue and it got better (more cinematic i would say) landscapes. Also there are 2 or 3 picnic zones with wooden tables so you can bring your own food. Also they have a little shop and restaurant. The only thing - the map is absolutely confusing, all ppl were complaining about that.. Also ITS NOT PET FRIENDLY😔 i still don’t understand why?! There are nothing that dogs could destroy there. Ppl would cause more damage leaving the plastic and scratching ancient stones. Any way- highly recomendable! Wet (green) season is from August till October, the rest of the year its a dry dessert.

Great place to see colourful flowers. Interesting structure for collection of water from the air can be seen in the form of nets.
Suyash J — Google review
Intense green brush and trees swathed in shifting fog, beautiful and mysterious, completely unexpected on the desert coast. One of just a few places like this in the world. Far more lush than what people call "lomas" vegetation on the south coast. Much richer than the impression I got from textbook accounts I read years ago. Protected in the formal Lomas de Lachay reserve, but lower, less dense green vegetation extends far beyond the boundaries of the preserve. The hills outside the preseve are mostly marked out as lots for sale to build warehouses for the new Chinese port at Chancay. All that fog vegetation outside the preserve will soon be converted to industrial use, maybe imperiling the reserve as well. Visit it soon, while it is still healthy and intact.

Bandurria

Archaeological museum
Sights & Landmarks
Ancient remains of a 4,000 BCE fishing settlement featuring early examples of stone architecture.
Loved this archaeological place. It was a small detour on my Caral tour. This is small compared to Caral, but has a much better detail. There are two pyramids and a amphitheatre in each of the Pyramids. The left one had three sacrifices found shown in the descriptions in front. The one in the right has more details. There is a Lagoon towards right, which gives a nice view point. there are different birds and insects in that lagoon. The guide here spoke English, so it was easy for me to communicate and ask questions not some thing I experienced in the much bigger Caral area.

Sacred City of Caral-Supe (UNESCO)

Archaeological site
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Important archaeological site featuring the remains of an ancient urban city with temples & more.
I absolutely loved this site. You think you are at the end of it and then more pyramids appear. The tour guide was a lot of fun and brought a Caral instrument with to demonstrate the acoustics of the environment. There is also a great little gift shop. Honestly the facilities are great and the bathrooms are very clean.
Nina W — Google review
Make sure you wear a hat! And bring water. The sun is blazing hot. Try to go during the dry season, then you can cross the river (such a cool experience) to get to the Sacred City. I recommend a guide, you just don't know enough about what you're looking at without one. We drove ourselves, and paid like 2 bucks to get in and another 10 for the guide. If you book with a tour, you're gonna end up paying up to $200. And most guide busses can't get through the river crossings... they try, but it's not guaranteed. They'll take you to a bridge and you'll have to walk across it instead. They are still digging up lots of the city, so there should be more to see in years to come!
Wfd W — Google review
This archeological site is a work in progress and well worth the trip if you can brave the two long dirt roads that access the site. Said to be the second oldest civilization in the world and untouched until discovered 30 years ago.

site is probably gorgeous, but the people working there treat visitors like it's a tourist trap. unworthy of being treated like a Unesco site. As a supano, I'm embarrassed.
Léo — Google review
The archaeological site is really large and has an interesting history that dates back 5000 years. It is located in the desert and has an oasis underneath it. The runes themselves are interesting to view if you’re a history buff like me. However, the guides they provide only speak Spanish. They do provide lots of details, but if you don’t understand Spanish, it will go over your head like a dead with me. If you’re planning to visit, it’s best to bring a translator or someone who speaks Spanish. The weather can get brutal since it’s right in the desert. There is an oasis in the valley underneath, which is lush green. It is believed that people living here were farmers working on those valley. That is an active archaeological work right across the valley. Drones are not allowed here nor solo travel with a GoPro. It is really not a tourist-friendly location since you would not find many tourists here. You might meet a lot of locals from Lima.
Sumit S — Google review
It was beyond my expectation and even when compared to more recent ruins, it’s still pretty advanced and knocked me out of my jaded state… I suppose it’s much harder for it to be depicted as impressive as it is in photos…. It’s a UNESCO heritage site that dates 5,000 years old to 3,000 BC and they’ve found no sign of warfare here…. and it doesn’t look like it’s on the giro go trail. Most of it is to open to the public and it sits on a dry river surrounded mostly by mountains and what’s more interesting is you can see it’s bigger perhaps because they’re working on other structures across the river. This is considered the Mesopotamia of the Americas, the oldest known civilization found in the Americas…. for now… until they find more, which they have reportedly found smaller and perhaps older ruins in the Americas of course, but the word “civilization” is very subjective of course, but even if you don’t consider it to be one of the cradles, it has the most adorable pyramids and it has great displays showcasing the various natural colors of cotton that they utilized then showing that Europe didn’t introduce cotton to South America as is commonly taught. I came in through the back door… in a colectivo from Barranca so I had a nice little hike and it almost seemed I’d be out there nearly alone, but they have nice displays and tour

But unlike its Old World counterparts, Caral had no defensive walls and researchers have found no evidence of any weapons. When Shady began excavating Caral in 1994, she uncovered a society built on trade, music, ritual and consensus. According to Shady's findings, about 3,000 people lived in Caral, plus several smaller nearby villages. The Supe Valley's strategic position linked the Pacific coast to fertile Andean valleys and the distant Amazon, which created a network of cultural and commercial exchange. The Caral people grew cotton, sweet potatoes, squash, fruit and chilli peppers, trading for minerals from the mountains and squirrel monkeys and macaws as pets from the Amazon. Along the coast, they gathered shellfish, seaweed and fish. Visiting Caral and Peñico Caral is open daily from 09:00-17:00, with the last tour starting at 16:00. Entrance tickets include Caral's onsite museum, the nearby sites of Áspero and Vichama, and local guides, most of whom speak only Spanish. Go with a guide who can translate Spanish and who knows the way, since the roads are poorly signed once you leave the Pan-American highway and turn onto the Caral-Ambar road. Peñico is 11km past Caral with the same opening hours. Visitor tip: Guides at both sites are locals trained by Shady's team, offering rich insights into politics, religion, astronomy and agriculture. "They had intercultural relationships with people of the jungle, the mountains and across large distances as far as Ecuador and Bolivia, but always peacefully," said Shady. In contrast, the Aztec, Maya and Inca were militaristic states, often waging long campaigns against neighbouring groups. Caral's ingenuity extended to architecture and the arts. The city's amphitheatre was seismically sound, designed to withstand the Pacific Rim's strongest earthquakes, and had a unique acoustic design for large concerts. Excavations have revealed 32 transverse flutes, some carved from pelican bones, others decorated with monkeys and condors – material proof of long-distance trade and cultural inclusion. "With these instruments they welcomed people from the coast, the mountains and the jungle in rituals and ceremonies," said Shady

(Translated by Google) 1.) When I went, they were doing maintenance on those areas. It was good because it shows they're not neglecting these types of attractions. 2.) Everything was clean and tidy. I like it because you can get there by car and there's plenty of parking. 3.) The sunset looks so beautiful from that area, though I did feel a bit of a cold breeze blowing. 4.) It's great for a weekend getaway with friends or family. You don't need a lot of money to get there and explore the area. Plus, visiting the entire beach is beautiful. I personally liked it. (Original) 1.)

Tuquillo

Beach
Outdoor Activities
Tuquillo is a celebrated and peaceful beach that offers a variety of activities such as swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, and camping. The calm sea with its blue waters provides an ideal setting for relaxation. Visitors can enjoy food and drinks brought directly to their spot on the beach and also have the option to rent awnings, umbrellas, and chairs. Additionally, there are opportunities for water sports with equipment available for rental.
I really liked this beach. Great fishing in the evening. When it gets a bit warmer, I’d imagine this beach absolutely pumps with all the little beach bars it has. It’s one of the best beach sunset spots in Peru.

Doesn’t get much better than ceviche on the beach. Great place to watch the tide and probably the most worthwhile thing to do within 30ish minutes of the area other than the archaeological site.

We arrived in a day where it was so cloudy and hazy you could barely see more than 5 meters. However the sand itself was nice and the restaurant promoters didn't disturb too much

(Translated by Google) Tuquillo is a beach located in the district and province of Huarmey in the department of Ancash. It has cool, turquoise waters and is a peaceful beach ideal for marine activities such as swimming, fishing, and diving. Tuquillo is an inlet formed between hills and the coastline; to the north, the coastal curve is smaller and forms the beach known as Tuquillo Norte. This beach is calmer and has more buildings, and its sea is conducive to fishing. Tuquillo itself has rougher seas, and to the north is La Pocita, a calm pool surrounded by rocks. Tuquillo Beach is part of a well-known beach circuit in Huarmey, which includes Salinas, Antivito, Maracaná, La Pocita, and Médano beaches, among others. In the Tuquillo resort, visitors can find accommodations and restaurants, as well as continuous shuttle service to the city of Huarmey, especially during the summer.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful beach with a very calm sea, the water is quite clean. What isn't clean is the beach (sand), because unfortunately, the people who go there are extremely inconsiderate and leave all their trash behind. It's truly a shame that in 2023, people are still so filthy and inconsiderate; it doesn't cost them anything to carry a trash bag and fill it instead of throwing everything on the sand. PLEASE DO NOT POLLUTE THE BEACH IF YOU VISIT! Other things to consider: - The beaches are PACKED on weekends; if possible, I recommend going on a weekday. - There are lodging options, but camping is also possible. Keep in mind that Serenazgo doesn't allow tents to be set up, so you have to wait until 5 p.m. to set them up. - There is parking outside the beach, but if you're camping and want to bring your car closer, you can do so after 5 p.m. To enter, you have to take the road that leads to the small pool. - We brought everything for camping, but I understand they rent tents, mattresses, bathrooms, etc. Again, if you visit, please be more careful with cleanliness 🙏🏼. I read a lot of comments about the trash and thought the city had done something, but everything is still just as dirty. When we went, there was an event organized by the city and Antamina with live music, drinks, and freebies. Instead of spending money on events like that, why don't they invest that money in cleaning the beach? The event was "ECO-TOURISM," yet they mentioned "please don't litter the beaches" three times, when they should have at least done a couple of activities to encourage beach cleanups, instead of encouraging people to buy beer.

Stayed two nights at 50 soles per night for Laguna 69 hike. Pony gave me all the information to do that without a tour. Lots of camping tools to rent from. Only a few minutes walk from the Caraz bus/colectivo terminal. Simply ring the bell. Many rooms and they come with a private bathroom, hot shower, comfy bed, a desk/chair. Sunny rooftop. Wifi doesn’t reach the room so better have a data plan on your phone. Very quiet compared to Huaraz. Part of the house is a cozy pizzeria open at 6pm. Possible to use the kitchen to make a simple breakfast and lunch. Pony let me stay and use a table in the restaurant until my bus in the evening. Overall great stay, thanks Pony!

Pony’s Lodge & Expeditions: You won’t fine warmer hospitality or better food or a more knowledgeable host on expeditions large and small. Known for pizza in its Cafe de Rat, Pony’s supplies to expeditions, rents bikes, arranges group and private trips of all kinds. Best of all it is a cosy nest to return to with a host interested in hearing about your wonderful day. Room 1 where I stayed had windows to east and west. Horizontal surfaces: two shelves above four clothing hooks; bedside table has two surfaces and a drawer; bathroom has long shelf. Rooftop terrace set up for mt viewing and doing your laundry.

This park has been given to the current owners as a gift by Sider Peru, a company which is eco-friendly and environment-conscious though industrial. Sadly, the new owners of Vivero cut down hundreds of healthy trees to create a noisy lunapark filled with tourist attractions such as quad bike zone. The last natural bit of the park is soon to be destroyed in order to give more space to the fun train which runs there. It is sad to see the stumps of trees that have died perfectly healthy to make room for more concrete in an already arid, desert city. While in Chimbote everyone talks about the beauty of Dubai, which is a great inspiration here, right the opposite of what we find in Dubai is being done here. Many of the parts of the park are kept unattended and in a horrible state such as the lagoons with wooden bridges which could remind one of Japanese gardens if they were treated well.

Museo Huacas de Moche

Museum
Sights & Landmarks
Museo Huacas de Moche is a modern museum located five kilometers south of Trujillo, showcasing the history and artifacts of the Moche culture. The museum features interpretive displays with a focus on ceramics and figurines excavated from the nearby temples, Huaca del Sol and Huaca de la Luna. These temples are significant structures in pre-Hispanic Peru, offering insight into ancient civilizations.
We came to the museum solely to get the tickets for the temple of the moon. Because we had to wait for about 35 minutes for the next guide and there was a discount in the ticket price if we also wanted to go into the museum, we decided to go. We were so glad we did. This has to be the best museum we have visited in Peru. The display is spacious, bright, clean and modern. The exhibits are exquisitely restored and very fascinating, they are also quite different from other locations we have been. We only wish we had visited the museum after the Temple in order to spend more time.

Great museum, go here first before hitting the actual archeological site.
Luis P — Google review
This is a super cool archeological site to visit! I really enjoyed the free tour, it was very informative. You’ll need to pay with cash! You have to buy your entrance tickets by the museum so I recommend going into the museum first and then walking up to the huacas. There is a free tour that starts on the hour every hour (in Spanish) that was very informative. Bring a tip for the tour guides! They’re archeological students at the national university of Trujillo. I recommend taking the combi from ovalo grau. They’re way cheaper than a taxi and they pick people up every 10 minutes or so from the huaca area.
Emily C — Google review
Small, but definitely worth seeing! Has very interesting artifacts from local ancient cultures.
Tomek Z — Google review
When I walked up a tour to Huaca de Luna was about to start. So, I wasn't offered a tour in English; I'm guessing you'd have to make an English reservation somehow. I could understand pieces of the Spanish, but really enjoyed walking through the pyramid. I think this is better than Chan Chan. It's 10 soles for the tour and 5 for the museum. The museum is pretty sparse. The tour guide works for tips and as I understand is a university student. You can take a Mochica Chimú (there are more of these) or Sol y Luna colectivo direct to here for 2.5 soles. They pick you up at Ovalo Grau.

La Huaca del Sol

Mentioned on

Historical place
Sights & Landmarks
La Huaca del Sol is a significant archaeological site in the region, built by the Moche civilization. It served as a royal residence, ceremony site, and burial chamber. The complex includes the Temples of the Sun and the Moon, with the latter featuring phenomenal multicolored friezes. While the larger Huaca del Sol is closed to visitors, La Huaca de la Luna offers well-preserved structures and remarkable polychrome murals on its multi-story wall.
So you really should come and join a guided tour (available in Spanish, English and French every hour or so), we did almost 2 hours and it was possibly the best pyramids in Peru we have visited (mostly thanks to the University that runs it). The explanations were really good, the route was nice, lots of shade and lots of conserved murals and structures to see. It's about 20 soles in an Uber from the city, 10 soles entry (+5 soles for the museum) and a guide is by donation (we gave 15 soles each).
Matthew B — Google review
Very interesting site! We had a lovely tour guide (sadly I don’t quite remember here name, Even?). The tours are free on a donation basis. They have tours in English and Spanish with the last English tour being at 3.15pm. Only annoying and rude thing was that the ticket seller sold us museum tickets even though it was only open for 8 more min (until 4pm)! I understand that the site needs money but this is not the way to get it. If you’re in Trujillo you should definitely check out this site!
Flowerly — Google review
The "Temple of the Sun" Huace del Sol is another Pyramid-style ceremonial place of the Moche civilization. Located close to the Temple of the Moon, just outside of Trujillo. Unfortunately the Spanish Colonial Forces destroyed a lot of this site after their search for gold. The site itself still is an impressive reminder on the high capabilities in architecture of pre-Colombian civilizations.
Tee K — Google review
Great to see the sun temple and be part of a tour group where the pictures / significance is explained. Some places were badly destroyed but you can see they are actively trying to keep what is left preserved.
Kara H — Google review
I had never heard of this civilization. Well preserved tiles, especially considering they are mud brick. The people who lived there were some blood-thirsty MFers.
Scott M — Google review
I wound up walking in since I took a Moche colectivo instead of one that comes direct to the museum. That worked well because the onsite tours do not visit Huaca del Sol. They go through Huaca de Luna. There are signs indicating that you shouldn't attempt to climb the pyramid. It was nice that I could see it up close as I walked the rest of the way to the fee station.
Mike M — Google review
Amazing place, museum was informative and had explanations in English. Our English guide Rosemary was really good and the guide service was included in the entrance fee (10 soles for site and 5 for museum). Definitely recommend thoroughly enjoyed.

This is something which you don't want to miss. If you are a history buff and like knowing the story of the people of Peru, this is a great stop! Away from the city, you can get a real feel for what it meant to be a part of the Peruvian civilizations of old!

Casa Campo Alcor - Show Restaurante is a delightful destination that offers an unforgettable experience for visitors in Trujillo. This charming venue showcases the rich traditions of Peruvian equestrian arts and dance, featuring well-trained horses and talented performers. Guests are welcomed with warm hospitality from the owner, who takes pride in his beautiful stallions. The show includes captivating displays of horsemanship alongside vibrant dances like the Paso and Marinera, all set against a picturesque ranch backdrop.
Una experiencia muy bien! 6 of us went for lunch (delicious pisco sours and food), and truly enjoyed the show with talented dancers, horses and caballeros. It was very interesting to learn more about Peruvian culture and only 30 soles a person. Highly recommend watching this show!

Ticket prices are s/30 per person. Opportunity for a horse ride at the end of the show for s/10. Two shows a day, one at 13h30 and the second at 14h30 Amazing exhibition of traditional Peruvian mastery of equestrian arts as well as dance. The hospitality is great and the presentation professional and friendly. Great place to take kids and family. Would recommend to anyone who is visiting Trujillo.

We went to a show here in March 2019. Absolutely loved it. It was local and the people so friendly. The owner was so lovely, and so proud of his horses. The horses themselves were well trained and beautiful. I have never stood and petted a stallion that was sooo placid and calm. They gave us a lovely show of horsemanship and of dancers. Our hearts melted when they brought out the latest foal and gave us a close up opportunity. This show must surely be visited - very good value.

We went to the horse and marinera show and had a nice lunch while watching. Both the horses and dancers put on a great presentation. You can take pictures with them at the end and have the possibility of riding the horses. It was a great day and I highly recommend it!

This is a great show and great value. The Paso and Marinera are great to see on this ranch style environment, on the land. Nice atmosphere and scenic with space for a proper show. Intimate nice setting and wonderful performance and talent. It a must see if you're in Trujillo. Once in a life time chance. I might even try to see it again.

Plaza de Armas of Trujillo

The Plaza de Armas of Trujillo is a vibrant and beautifully landscaped square that serves as the heart of this historic city. Celebrating Trujillo's independence with its striking central sculpture, the monument to Liberty crafted by German sculptor Edmund Moeller, it draws visitors in with its charm. This plaza is not just a picturesque spot; it's also surrounded by stunning architecture featuring colorful facades that reflect the city's rich history from both the Viceroyalty and Republican eras.
One of the nicest plazas in Peru. It’s also the cleanest. Sunsets and early evenings in the plaza are beautiful. All the glowing bikes, toy cars and other neon-colored light up toys just made the place so much more beautiful.

Really cool place in the center of Trujillo. Safe, lots of families around and security is solid. The architecture is really beautiful and it is a nice space, and there are also many great restaurants within one block of the plaza itself. Must-visit place if you’re visiting Trujillo or Huanchaco.

Trujillo Cathedral Basilica, also known as La Catedral, is a rebuilt 17th-century cathedral located in Trujillo, Peru. Its striking yellow facade stands out against the surrounding architecture and is especially impressive when illuminated at night. The cathedral features twin bell towers and houses a museum of religious artwork. Destroyed by an earthquake in the 18th century, it was soon rebuilt with Rococo interiors and Baroque altarpieces.

The art in this Cathedral is exceptional. Carvings and paintings are the highest quality. This is an active church. Some paintings are haunting while others are uplifting. There are many realistic sculptures of Jesus being crucified. There are also several depictions of saints. If in Trujillo make time to visit and spend some time.

Chan Chan

Mentioned on

Archaeological museum
Sights & Landmarks
Chan Chan is a significant pre-Columbian archaeological site in America, known for its vast adobe complex adorned with art and carvings. Located just 10 minutes from Huanchaco, it attracts numerous tourists daily. The ruins are part of a larger adventure that includes nearby sites like the Huacas del Sol y de la Luna and Huaca de Bruja. For surfers, the proximity to Huanchaco's renowned surf makes it an appealing destination.
I can't believe Chan Chan isn't more well known and visited. It's an amazing archeological site with interesting history. If you enjoyed Machu Picchu, the history and culture, then make the trip north to Trujillo and see Chan Chan. It's a different culture and history, but no less interesting.
Fred C — Google review
It was great and really interesting and if you have kids then they would be really engaged if you hire a tour guide
Gabriel — Google review
Certainly Chan Chan is one of the historically highly important archeological sites in the country. However, from a visitor's perspective the site has a few drawbacks. First, there is very little to no information at the archeological spots (only some in the museum). At the main site you can not even tell what is "original" and what was reconstructed. Second, the complex is large and scattered across the area (the ticket covers four spots) - you either need a driver or be prepared to walk quiet a lot. There is also no information on where to start and which route to take between the four spots. Of you habe the time, pay this site a visit and decide for yourself. Bit if you have to choose, I would personally recommend Huaca de Luna instead for a half-day trip.
Dmitry S — Google review
Absolutely impressive site! The ruins of Chan Chan are huge and give you a real sense of the scale of this ancient city. It’s very well maintained and easy to explore, with detailed explanations about the culture and history of the Chimú civilization. Walking through the palaces and seeing the geometric and animal designs on the walls is truly fascinating. A must-visit if you’re in Trujillo!
Adrian H — Google review
I think the chan chan site itself was not as impressive as I originally thought. Not a lot of parts of the chan chan ancient city was open to public so the visit to the chan chan site itself was not very long. There are not a lot of description or reconstruction pictures shown on site so it all depends on the guide. Our guide was excellent so it was ok but the site itself was not well presented. It was also not very crowded during our visit. Must visit the museum beforehand or else you won’t know what is happening out there.
Celia Y — Google review
This visit is a must go !! I definitely recommend to visit this place and to take a guide (60 soles). With a guide it is much more easy to project oneself in the culture and lifestyle of the Chimu and understand the interaction between different cultures in Peru (Moche, Chimu, Inka). Without a guide, you won’t be able to catch all the details and subtleties of this place!
Patricia C — Google review
I recommend to take a tour to get information about the place. We didn't get a guide but it worse to pay for it
Behzad G — Google review
Awe inspiring place for its huge scale more than anything. The mud carvings are attractive and lots of conservation and repair work is ongoing. The museum is a little small and dated but the city makes up for it.

Im here right now. I got the Ceviche de Pescado and I immediately stopped eating just to write that review. I spent 2 months in Mancora eating the best ceviches and this Ceviche (Huanchaco Beach) is by far the best I have ever eaten. Fish looks good, seasoned and made super-well and tasty. Big portion. I gave it 4 stars just because it is expensive, for a fish ceviche I payed 39 /s which is quite a lot.

Archeological complex El Brujo

Archaeological museum
Museums
Ancient, Moche-era archeological complex with ruins, art, wall designs, a mummy & various artifacts.
We started our trip at 10 am at Trujillo center and finished around 3:30pm.The pieces of art is great . The lady of chaos is the unique piece in the north of Peru in such a great preservation, showing the importance of this woman in that place. You will need to pay s/10 for entry to the museum. I will recommend to accept only payments in order to avoid problems to people who don't carry cash. Toilets very clean and everything well organized.
Henreli C — Google review
I spent some really interesting hours in the archaeological complex El Brujo. It covers thousands of years of uninterrupted human occupation. The complex is situated about 70 km north of Trujillo. It is about a 45 minutes drive from Trujillo and absolutely worth the trip. The latest excavations carried out at the pyramid called Huaca Cao have revealed a ceremonial site that is 1800 years old. It was built with the intention to bury a royal person. They found a mummified young female person. The condition of the mummy was so good that the could see tattooes on different parts of her body. We could see the body in the museum. She was called: La dama de Cao, (The Lady of Cao) and we could see a lot of artefacts and jewellery. After seeing the museum, we walked around in the huaca, and it was really interesting. This was the Moche culture, and I recommend reading about the Moche before you visit El Brujo. And it is also interesting to make a stop in the nearby village Magdalena de Cao. Lots of nice paintings on the walls of the houses.
Alfhild H — Google review
I most see if you already saw Chan Chan, Huaca del sol and Huaca de la Luna. They have a " mummified woman ruler". The site is one hour away from the city of Trujillo but the trip is worth it.
Gian S — Google review
Awesome site! Didn’t see a witch or wizard but the paintings and walls were very impressive! One of the better sites around Trujillo, and quite straightforward to reach without a tour, just leave yourself plenty of time for the return as the colectivo was slow to fill back from Magdalena
Tristan R — Google review
The archaeological site of El Brujo is absolutely amazing! The ruins are impressive and the museums are very well organized and informative. This was an important ceremonial complex of the Moche culture, dating back to around 100–750 AD. You can still see the remains of pyramids, temples, and incredible murals that tell stories of rituals and daily life. One of the highlights is learning about the Señora de Cao, a female ruler discovered here, whose tomb and artifacts are beautifully displayed in the museum. A fascinating place that combines history, culture, and stunning views of the coast—definitely worth the visit!
Adrian H — Google review
This place was see inspiring considering it was built 1000 years before the Incas. You could easily spend all day walking around
David M — Google review
Not quite as impressive size wise as some of the other archeological sites we had visited. However the number of tombs discovered so far really give an insight to the changing burial techniques over time. A lack of funds has temporarily stopped any further excavation. If you visit Peru it is still worth the effort.
David F — Google review
Pyramids nowhere near as impressive as later Inca, Azrec or Mayan structures and they have been greatly eroded by rain. However the excavations show an advanced culture fir ghe time. The museum gives an excellent interpretation and there is a room full of gold clothing, ornaments etc that the Spaniards missed giving us all a better insight into the distant. past
