Plaza de Bolívar

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Plaza de Bolívar is a historic city center in Bogota, Colombia, surrounded by significant buildings and notable architecture. The area offers a mix of old and new, with the Plaza once being a stage for bullfights but now juxtaposed with modern structures like the Palace of Justice and Lievano Palace. Visitors can explore nearby attractions such as the Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and take part in graffiti tours led by individuals involved in the urban art scene.
This was my first time visiting Bolivar Square, and I was honestly blown away by how beautiful and lively the area is. The square is surrounded by stunning colonial architecture, including the grand Primatial Cathedral, the National Capitol building, and the Palace of Justice. Everywhere you look feels like a snapshot from a different era, full of rich history and culture. The atmosphere is vibrant yet laid-back. I spent a couple of hours just hanging out, people-watching, and enjoying the view. There are plenty of pigeons flying around, and while they might surprise you at first, it actually adds to the charm of the place. I found it peaceful just sitting there, watching the birds and soaking in the energy of the square. Around the edges of the square, you’ll find small flea market-style stalls selling antiques, crafts, and local goods. It’s a great place to browse for souvenirs or even just admire the handmade items. Some of the antiques and vintage finds were really interesting and felt like they had stories behind them. There are also several nice cafes and restaurants nearby, so it’s easy to take a break with a coffee or a snack while still enjoying the view. The mix of locals and tourists gives the area a welcoming, community vibe. Tips for tourists like me: - Visit during the daytime when everything is open and the square is at its liveliest. - Bring small cash if you want to buy from the flea market vendors. - Keep your belongings close, as it can get crowded. - Take time to explore the nearby streets. There’s more beautiful architecture and street art just a few blocks away. Overall, Bolivar Square was one of the highlights of my visit to Bogota. It’s beautiful, historical, and full of character. Whether you’re into history, architecture, shopping, or just want to relax and observe city life, this place has something for everyone.

1st time in Bogota. Had an AWESOME time. We were cautious with time restraints in the southern portion of the city..... We hired a driver for a few hours. It made the sightseeing more pleasurable.
J.P. S — Google review
Nice place. A little crowded and surrounded by street vendors but I suppose that part of the charming. A lot of pigeons too. Very important: Safe place… and beautiful museums near as well as very good restaurants (all prices)
Alexander H — Google review
The Plaza de Bolívar is an important historical and cultural spot in Bogotá. It’s interesting to see the grand buildings like the cathedral and the government palace all in one place. However, the square itself felt a bit chaotic and not very well maintained. There were quite a few pigeons and street vendors, which can take away a bit from the atmosphere. Still, it’s worth a short visit to get a sense of the city’s history – just don’t expect too much charm.
Raffael T — Google review
Very pretty the squared, it’s not weekend, but full of people, the near by streets also full with people and vendors. The building there is Colonial architectural style, very special and full of fun.
Lily C — Google review
Beautiful plaza in the heart of Bogota Colombia. Full of life color and especially pigeons. People sell food that you can use to feed the pigeons with. On one corner there's a cathedral that was closed the day we were there. Several streets go off and directions with tons of little shops. Plaza de armas is also nearby, an easy walk. A must see when coming to Bogota.
John S — Google review
Nice historical place to view and people watch. I went at a time there were more birds than people. Had a nice experience. Very safe
Nacho C — Google review
Too crowded. Too much unpleasant attention from locals towards tourists. Too many pigeons. Very dirty. Plaza de Bolívar is the beating heart of Bogotá’s history, surrounded by iconic landmarks: the neoclassical Primatial Cathedral, the elegant Liévano Palace (city hall), the National Capitol, and the Palace of Justice. The architecture is impressive, but the square itself feels overwhelmingly crowded—tourists, street vendors, and protesters all converge here, making it hard to fully appreciate the surroundings. Safety is a concern—armed police and military patrol constantly, which feels necessary but also reminds you to stay alert. The pigeons are relentless (if you stand still for 5 seconds, you’ll become a perch!). Worth a quick visit for the historic significance, but go early to avoid crowds, keep valuables secure, and maybe skip the bird feed sellers!

The Gold Museum, located in the historic city center of Bogota, is a contemporary structure that houses an extensive collection of pre-Columbian gold, ceramics, and stones. It is home to over 34 thousand pieces made of gold and tumbaga, showcasing the art and goldsmithing used by various indigenous communities in Colombia.
Much richer than expected. The museum offers a wide range of well-presented exhibits, with clear explanations through both the audio guide and display texts. I took a slow, thorough walk through and spent about 6 hours. Highlights: 1) gold and other metalworking techniques; 2) artifacts and decorations from different regions of Colombia; 3) offerings and their ritual significance. A deeply rewarding visit.

Great big museum in Bogota... Good location... One of the main things and attraction to see when you in this city and all Colombia ... The entrance is 5000 pezos, about 1euro...its cheap...Museum is on 3 floors..They are open every day except Monday until 6pm... There you can see all Colombian history... Also you can see some videos in few rooms... So much pieces of gold, neckles, rings, crowns..In the basement you can buy some unique things.. Sometimes it's very crowded... All recommendations for visit and enjoy if you are in Bogota
VLAJKO P — Google review
A wonderful place to visit to get an idea of aboriginal culture of gold making and their ingenuity and craftsmanship. Some pieces are so delicately made with in such small details that it is unbelievable how they could achieve this. You'll learn a lot about metal and gold craftsmanship and the beliefs and culture of the people who occupied the land before European colonization. In regards to accessibility, easy access for all with elevators and easy guide signs. Translation in English were available, and was possible to get audio guide. In August 2025, it was free on Sundays for attendance.
Mehrzad B — Google review
The Restaurant...thats all ill say! The museum is insightful to the norms of the areas and some insight to their industrious ways to create tools and jewelry. Also their awareness of surrounding or impeding cultures. But the Restaurant took the cake! Waitstaff was so nice and helpful. The runner for the food was so polite and considerate. Our waitress was sweet and on it! Again, the museum is dope but the Restaurant took the cake! And not the Cafe....the restaurant. Im not sure what the Cafe has because we never made it there. We had the salmon salad ( amazing greens choice and cooking style...roasted bits added depth and texture) and the pumpkin curry...just so frigging good ( roasted pumpkin rib like is was a salmon slab...curry with a wonderful balance of coconut cream and spices and the coconut rice was perfectly baked with coconut flavored and tiny fluffy pillows of savoriness)...and the tangerine juice...great museum! Definitely would stop pass!

A beautiful and informational museum with a lot of history about Gold and the generations of many Colombian tribes and the significance of many symbolism and it's meaning all explained well. It's a gorgeous and humbling experience. I wish there was a little bit more to interact with but overall it's definitely worth a visit.
Robbie L — Google review
Many pieces of arts and introduction, we don’t have much time to read every detail, I saw someone is using kind of earphone to listen to voice explanation, look good. But just don’t know where to rent? How many languages it has. Sunday is free to entrance, very worthy to visit.
Lily C — Google review
A nice quiet place, it's wonderful how history and indigenous stories have been told through gold. There is a nice restaurant in there as well.
Allan C — Google review
We visited this museum while exploring Bogotá. We visited during a weekend and there was a line in front of the building. It took about 10 minutes to get in. The entrance fee is quite low. The museum itself is quite big with multiple floors. Most information is in Spanish and English. When we visited it was quite busy and sometimes there were too many people to properly enjoy the collections. However, there were many impressive artefacts and we were glad we saw them to better understand Colombian history and culture. There is also a gift shop and a coffee shop in the basement. This is a perfect place to visit on a rainy day.

Iglesia de San Francisco

Church
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the heart of Bogotá, the Iglesia de San Francisco stands as a testament to the city's rich history and architectural beauty. Constructed between 1550 and 1567 by Franciscan monks, this remarkable Catholic church is not only the oldest surviving structure in Bogotá but also a stunning example of Moorish influence on colonial design.
The oldest Church in Bogota. It's inside are so grand but outside is stark opposite. But don't miss it. It has special value in local history and bond with people.
Sidharth S — Google review
The entire area around is fiesta every day. This stunning church is and island of peace and quiet in the middle of it
Dietrich S — Google review
It's mind-blowing to think that this place was build in the 1500s!! The grandiosity of the altar, which is gold-plated, and pretty much all the interior except for the pews is truly staggering. Taking pictures is not allowed, so you'll have to be discreet if you want to snap any. Most importantly, remember it's still a church, not a museum, so be mindful of the people praying inside.
Martin M — Google review
I'm an American traditional Catholic. Going to a Novus Ordo always makes me a little nervous because I'm not sure what to expect. I found this liturgy very reverent and beautiful, and I appreciate that kneeling to receive Holy Communion seemed to be common practice. The only surprise was a delightful one, which was that after mass the faithful came up to the communion rail to be showered in holy water by a Franciscan friar with his aspergillum. It was awesome. Afterward, most lingered to pray in their pews or around the various magnificent side altars, and I was also grateful for the opportunity to prayerfully wander around and admire the beauty of it all. I felt very much at home in this church and would look forward to the opportunity to come again
William H — Google review
This is one of the most beautiful churches I've ever been in. Anytime I have friends visiting, I always bring them there and everyone just thinks it's absolutely stunning.
Ryan Y — Google review
As one of the previous comments mention: There is more gold than in the Gold Museum. It's not allowed to make pictures. I'd loved to take some. I walked with a wide open mouth. Very impressive artifacts. And it's free entrance.
Reinhold B — Google review
The outside needs to be restored, on the inside there is an amazing neoclassic style altar from the 16th century, this church is almost always closed, check times before visiting, I was there on a weekday at 5 pm.
Ana B — Google review
It is a beautiful place. It is the only place in the world that has 3 Catholic churches in a single block. The churches were built in the 15th and 16th century. The architectural or architectural value is invaluable to the city. Sito recommended for followers of history and art.

National museum
Museums
The Museo Nacional de Colombia is a large museum housing over 20,000 artifacts dating from the 16th century to modern times. It offers a comprehensive insight into the diverse ethnic and cultural influences that have shaped Colombia's history. The museum boasts an impressive collection of pre-Columbian art showcasing the skill and creativity of indigenous peoples, as well as more recent works by renowned Colombian artists such as Fernando Botero and Alejandro Obregon.
I am partial to National Museums, I think they are all mostly great. This museum was equally as great. One small downside was the shortage of alternative languages, while I am somewhat confident reading Spanish, a little more in English wou serve well. No French language, nor any other alternatives. Can be solved using translation app. Cost 43,000COP
Content G — Google review
A true national museum in every sense. Its exhibitions span vast scales of time and geography. The texts on the walls are beautifully written: thoughtful, elegant, and never pretentious. They match the exhibits perfectly and are worth reading slowly. Each of the three floors has a clear theme, guiding you through different perspectives on life, society, and art. You could easily spend a whole day here and still find more to appreciate.
Cloud Y — Google review
This museum is very informative and lovely to visit in Bogota to learn about the history of Columbia. The artwork is quite stunning and the design of the entire museum is very educating. Most of the exhibits are both in Spanish and English which is very helpful and the audio guide is worth it.
Anthony P — Google review
They only accept cash payments in COP. The museum is not very big but still diverse and worth a visit.
Alfahad91 — Google review
Entrance fee was USD$10 for tourists, cash only, and has to be paid in COP. Nice museum with a lot of artifacts in three stories of a historical building. It was once a prison. Probably need an hour to go through it all

A wonderful museum displaying indigenous, traditional, and modern day art and history for Columbia. Some really fascinating historic pieces. Plan it for a few hrs, cash only for entry and enjoy!
Allan C — Google review
Great museum! They sometimes have free entry, which means it will be busy but very much worth the visit. There’s lots to see and obviously a lot of history! Definitely recommend checking out this museum. It has a combination of contemporary and historical exhibitions.

Parque de la 93

Park
Nature & Parks
Parque de la 93 is a popular outdoor destination in Bogota, offering green spaces, playgrounds, and benches for visitors to enjoy. It's a great spot for families to explore and play together. The park features attractive landscapes with large trees and plenty of seating areas for relaxation. Located in the northern end of Chapinero, it's known for its upscale atmosphere and modern amenities.
Parque de la 93 is a wonderful, safe place to visit, especially with kids. It’s a great spot for walking around with your family and feeling at ease. We were there in December during a festive event to kick off the holiday season, and the atmosphere was lively with lots of people celebrating together. The park is spacious, and kids can play while you sit back, relax, and even enjoy some drinks. There are plenty of restaurants in the surrounding area, making it a perfect spot to spend the day with your family. That said, it’s always good to stay aware, especially if you wander too far outside the park, as some corners may feel less secure. But as long as you stay within the park’s main area, it’s very safe and enjoyable. I highly recommend Parque de la 93 for families—great ambiance, lots of space, and a vibrant neighborhood. Definitely a must-visit!

It’s pretty but it’s small. With so the bars nearby i indulge there is great night life here
Roberto T — Google review
Great park! Tables, seats amongst the flowers to play domino and bring your coffee. Kids playground and Dog play area. Beautiful giant palms. Safe, surrounded by restaurants and shopping. No ticket needed.
Grant G — Google review
There’s always something going on at Parque de la 93 🌳☀️ This park may be small, but they really made the most out of it. There is lots of seating, both benches and little tables with chairs, and even the occasional coffee stand. You have a lovely view of the mountains and palm trees from one end of the park. There’s a playground for kids and all around the park, there are nice cafes, restaurants and bars. Since there are many companies nearby, it’s also a popular spot for people to take a break in the sun. The park has its own Instagram page where they share events, offer yoga classes and other sports activities. The space is often used for pop up stands, markets and different cultural activities. There’s a big shopping festival called Feria EVA that happens here. The whole space gets transformed into pink stalls with local artists and brands selling their clothes, jewelry, decor and more. They set up a stage with live music and have food stands around the area as well. So, as you can see, there’s always something to do or see at Parque de la 93.
Sophia — Google review
It’s a peaceful green space in the middle of the bustling city, perfect for a relaxing stroll or just sitting down with a coffee and watching the world go by. The atmosphere is vibrant yet calm, and it feels very safe and welcoming.
Jenneth N — Google review
Parque 93 in Bogotá is a hidden gem, offering a delightful blend of tranquility and vibrant energy. The park boasts a plethora of food choices, with standout options like Starbucks and local options, providing an exquisite culinary experience. From local flavors to international delights, there's a dish to satisfy every palate. The beauty of the scenery is truly captivating, creating a serene escape amidst the urban hustle. Lush greenery, well-maintained paths, and charming water features make it an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll or a relaxing afternoon picnic. I particularly loved the amount, size, and greenery of the trees in this particular area. For those seeking a laid-back atmosphere, Parque 93 is a haven. The ascetic charm of the park, combined with the diverse food offerings, makes it an easy-going destination for locals and visitors alike. Whether you're a food enthusiast or someone craving a tranquil retreat, Parque 93 delivers a harmonious experience that leaves a lasting impression.
Bertha P — Google review
Stopped here after dinner to just walk around and definitely Safe to hang out at night as a single woman - there’s so many people out. There are play spaces for kids, but at night it’s gonna be a lot of teenagers/couple. With the surrounding cafés and restaurants in Parker great to just hang out and talk for a place of a space for greenery.
Mariah J — Google review
It’s a beautiful little park for kids... it has areas assigned by age group with signs, it also has security guards. The sand pit is great, along with the boat, and the climbing spider ball. Kids absolutely love this park! I wish they would close it off with small/short gate since it’s a very business oriented area and a lot of grown ups also like to hang out. The grassy area has a lot of events but it’s mostly for dogs and grown ups.

Alquiler de Bicicletas Biking Bogotá

Bicycle rental service
Nature & Parks
Biking Trails
In A Nutshell: -Biking Bogota located in the very nice neighborhood called Ciudad Salitre Oriental was the perfect place to rent a bike for the day. -I was able to email them to make a reservation before my trip to Bogota a couple weeks in advance. -I knew I was going to need a bike for the Sunday "Ciclovia de Bigota" where the city closes down large swaths of roads to allow bikes/people exercise, it's such a memorable & fun experience. -Paulo was very friendly & helped make sure my bike was the right fit. -She also provided a helmet, bike lock & a map. -The price for 4 hours was around $20, which was very good. Overall, I highly suggest renting your bike from Biking Bogota you won't be disappointed!
Dude — Google review
Great bike and great service, smooth communication, good price, everything worked out well. I really enjoyed Sunday ciclovia thanks to you guys!
Radek Š — Google review
I highly recommend the bike rental service! From start to finish, the experience was excellent. The customer service team was incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful—they made the whole process smooth and hassle-free. They took the time to explain everything clearly and answered all my questions with patience and professionalism. The bikes themselves were in great condition: clean, well-maintained, and very comfortable to ride. Whether you're planning a short ride around the city or a longer cycling adventure, they offer different types of bikes to suit your needs. I appreciated how easy it was to adjust the seat and handlebars for a perfect fit, which made the ride even more enjoyable. Additionally, they provided helmets and locks at no extra charge, which gave me peace of mind while exploring. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I would definitely use their service again. If you're looking for a reliable and enjoyable bike rental, this is the place to go!

We had a great time biking la ciclovía on Sunday! The process to rent bikes from Biking Bogotá was easy and smooth. Everyone was so kind. We were given a map with directions and time time estimations for how long it would take, which was really helpful since we rented bikes for 4 hours. You can rent bikes for longer, but la ciclovía ends at 2:00pm so we felt 4 hours was best for us. I would definitely recommend biking Bogotá and look forward to renting again the next time we visit!

Great experience!! I wanted to rent a bike for Bogota's Sunday La Ciclovía and Diego got me hooked up immediately! It's such a beautiful city to bike around and explore, and Diego gave me guidance on scenic routes for the day (all of which had food and juice vendors along the way). The bike was also brand new which I've never experienced with a bike rental. I was out and about for 5 hours and it was a perfect sunny day to explore the city. 100% recommend Biking Bogota (and la ciclovía!!).
Jen O — Google review
Great bike rental right near the Ciclovía. The bikes were well maintained. They gave us a map and recommended a couple of different routes for us. For an urban cruiser I paid $35,000 for 4 hours which is much cheaper than other locations.

Close to the airport and perfect for long layovers during ciclovia days! Paola was great and very responsive. It's located in an apartment building without a storefront sign; just go in and ask at the front desk for Biking Bogotá. Bikes aren't fancy but the price and service are great!

It boasts an extensive collection of Colombian and Latin American flora, showcasing the diverse ecosystems found throughout Colombia, with a focus on Andean and Paramo ecosystems.
We enjoyed the gardens. My husband is 75 and was able to get in for free. The flowers are just beautiful and the ponds are clean. Very peaceful and relaxing. It’s a very safe place for tourist to take their phones out and take pictures.

It showcases an impressive diversity of Colombian flora with approximately 903 plant species, representing ecosystems like Andean and páramo regions. The garden also offers guided tours and has an on-site café for refreshments. It is a beautiful, well-maintained space that combines relaxation with education about Colombia’s incredible biodiversity. Admission is affordable, and the garden is accessible by public transit or taxi. It is a must-visit for those wanting to connect with nature within the city of Bogotá

Separate rates for citizens and foreigners. Very calm, large area to walk around. I’m more of an animal nerd, so I was more excited about the goldfish in the pond, or the random birds that were out and about. This place is definitely for the plant nerds, since they have a grand array of species. It was nice, will come back with my grandma who loves plants.
Lilly Q — Google review
Really beautiful ❤️ Didn't expect it to be so big and so many different areas. You can tell how much care is placed. Thank you for the wonderful experience, didn't want to leave!
Alicia D — Google review
I absolutely loved my visit to the Bogotá Botanical Garden – it’s a beautiful, peaceful space, full of color, nature, and well-maintained paths. A perfect place to walk, relax, and learn about Colombia’s rich biodiversity. I particularly enjoyed the Tropicario, which is an impressive and carefully designed area. However, one small issue is that when the guides stop to give explanations, it often creates bottlenecks, making it hard for other visitors to pass through. It would be great if a better flow system could be implemented. I also stopped by the café, and the experience was completely satisfying – good service, pleasant atmosphere, and a nice way to end the visit.

This is one of the most beautiful Botanic Gardens! La rosaleda fue mi parte favorita. You could smell the different roses from the paths. And amazing colors. I also enjoyed walking off of the main path to see the vegetable gardens. The birds were singing and seemed very happy, too.

Chicaque Natural Park is an ideal destination located near Bogota for nature lovers. It boasts picturesque trails that are perfect for hiking and horseback riding. Visitors can also avail of lodging options as well as dine at the two restaurants available in the park. Chicaque Natural Park is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including sloths that can be spotted hanging from tree branches by lucky hikers. The entry fee to the park is $5, with free parking facilities provided.
Can't say enough good things about this place, I thoroughly recommend visiting. I tried all means of communication available (email and WhatsApp) before arriving with no response so I was a little worried about availability. The staff at the restaurant by the carpark were super helpful and arranged everything easily after explaining my options. The walk down to the refuge was through gorgeous forest teeming with interesting things to observe and photograph. The refuge was very comfortable and the food was of a very high standard - compliments to the chef! I absolutely loved sitting on the balcony with a cold beer (or a hot chocolate!) and watching the birds and the stunning view. I walked the trail to the cascades and to the oak woods, both through very interesting and different habitats. Lots of mushrooms, birds and beautiful plant life. I could easily have spent a whole week here and still not want to leave

The park has amazing scenery. This National Park is a stunning cloud forest reserve located about 30 minutes Bogotá. There we started what was a pretty arduous walk but certainly made up for by the astounding scenery. This was only part of the park which spans 300 hectares of sub-Andean forest, with elevations from 2,000 to 2,700 meters, and temperatures ranging from 11°C to 17°C. On the way the foliage is dense and you can make out quite a variety of bird and animal life. However, it was a bit of a relief to finally reach the restaurant for Food and the well-deserved rest. If you are hiking be prepared for weather and some difficult walking but it is all worthwhile.

This place was incredible. Great views from the top, abundance of trails through lush forest, huge variety of birds and one area known for butterflies. Staff very friendly, good food. You can stay overnight in lower refuge lodge, private cabin or glamping yurt, you can also tent camp

Such a worthwhile place to visit outside Bogota! Can be done either as a day trip or overnight-- it is beautiful, scenic, quiet, adventurous and run by dedicated, wonderful staff. I stayed overnight in the bellota and it was very comfortable and my kids loved sleeping in a "treehouse"-- stunning views and such an interesting experience. Whether you go for the day or are staying overnight, start early! The car park is nowhere near someplace you can put your bags down and then hike/ explore-- I learned this the hard way and had a TON of extra stuff we didn't need but nevertheless had to schlep up and down the steep hike to the 'refugio'-- or main area where everything takes place (horseback riding, zipline, meals, accommodation, etc). Yes, check in is at 3, which really means you should be parking your car no later than noon to start the process and walk down. They do have jeep or horse service if you don't want to walk, but it is a beautiful if not challenging path both up and down. I can't say say enough positive things about the overall experience: our accommodation was clean and lovely, the food was fantastic and we had so much fun doing their activities! They even host a nighttime walk followed by a campfire where you can learn about the area and see nocturnal animals like the native monkeys to Chicaque. This is an athletic vacation but one that is rewarded with wonderful scenery, hospitality and connection.

Amazing place! Beautiful scenery with beautiful areas to hike too. Hiked around for 2 days and stayed a night in the hotel. The staff is absolutely amazing and helpful. The food was fresh and delicious. Definitely want to visit again.

Only for experienced hikers, trekkers and campers. We nearly died trying to go down the slippy wet stone trails as others tumbled too. We got about 1/3 way down and went back as our knees gave out so that we could hardly stand let alone side step on the rocks. We went back on a vehicle trail with many rest stops fortunately before it rained. The staff at Arboloco lodge/Cafe were great on finding out we had to give up not making it to the lower main restaurant where our ticket package fresh made lunch was waiting had the three lunches brought up on the shuttle. They were delicious and nutritious and filling not just because of the two pitchers of great Sangria which led to a great nap waiting for our taxi back to Bogota. Well laid out park and campers picking up firewood said they were enjoying themselves. Clearly the "Forest in the clouds" as foggy when we came. Just be in shape and prepared beautiful tropical setting minus bugs. We may come again more prepared. We walk 3-5 km every day but it was not enough.

Nice outdoor adventure. Interesting paths through the forest. Tranquility. Nice viewpoints. Chance to do a zipline and tree climbing. Not many other people in October. Strenuous because of the height, but overall a great way to spend a day hiking away from Bogotá‘s noisy city.

Lake Guatavita

Lake
Outdoor Activities
This small, circular lake in a scenic, forest-fringed crater was a sacred site of the Muisca people.
Well worth the bus ride out here. Great views of the lake and surrounding countryside. Good for families. You have to be reasonably fit but for the up but not too strenuous. We followed the Spanish speaking tour. I think you have to arrange your own English guide ahead of time if you want one.
Deegy D — Google review
A lake of incredible beauty. You'll climb to an altitude of over 3,000 metres to observe the lake. Don't worry, the climb is fairly straightforward and accompanied by a guide. With several historical pauses. A must if you're ever in the area. You won't regret the view.
Mich _ — Google review
One of the most beautiful lakes in Colombia. At an altitude of over 3,000 meters. It is worth visiting with your eyes closed. The climb to reach the top is about 20'-30' minutes. The view you see as you climb up is fantastic!!!
Stelios F — Google review
I enjoyed having a look here, but it is a bit overrated. The main problem is that it is compulsory to have a guide (in Spanish only!). You cannot walk alone. And to make things more annoying, after the tour finishes, you are not permitted to walk back from where you came. You have to do a longer route and pay extra to take a bus back to the main entry point.

Interesting history about the Spanish's and British's involvement in attempting to drain the lake in search of gold. Good job done by the local authorities to conserve and preserve the ecosystem around the lake. Uphill walk (slightly strenuous) to the lake. Unique vegetation in the park

Centro Comercial Fontanar

Shopping mall
Shopping
Chic, contemporary retail center with 3 floors of stores, plus a food court & movie theater.
Great place for fancy food, drinks and shopping! All type of luxury brands and you can even find cars to buy inside.
Jackeline G — Google review
Great mall in Chia. Variety of stores with international clothing, cell phone companies, beauty salons, large Exito for groceries and a food court of about 15 stores. Modern architecture. Friendly staff. Plenty of cafes and ice-cream places. Only drawback is the planning of the mall where you have to walk across the whole floor in order to reach the escalator. Also - perhaps nit-picking - but food court stalls could have more variety.
Kapil N — Google review
A very good place on the outskirts of Chia and a very open place with a lot of shops and a good food court. A very spacious open car park, and a shuttle to nearby places are some of the highlights. There are very good options to spend the time with kids. No wonder this is always crowded.

Excellent mall, but could do with an extension- needs some more shops and space in the car park is usually hard to find at the weekends.

Incredible stores, with an excellent space to walk accompanied by family, friends, make this shopping center different in Chia. A large parking lot, whose entrances are very well framed, in such a way that there are no inconveniences for entry. Italian, Mediterranean restaurants perfectly combine the atmosphere for shopping, coffee or simply enjoy the view of the top floor.

Theme park with replicas of world landmarks, a zoo & environmental space with conservation programs.
Amazing park, full of nature, history. We were there for 5 hours, and still couldn't walk and see everything, so better plan to go there from early morning. Minus - that some parts do not have English translation, especially about the battles in the sea. Worth the price.

Jaime Duque Park is one of my favorite places to visit with friends or family. It has a beautiful zoo where there is a great variety of mammals, felines, birds and many animals that are in very good condition. You can also enjoy a wide variety of restaurants and dining options. You have many activities for the whole family and for all ages: the medieval castle, The Thousand and One Nights, the aviary and a giant map of Colombia in high relief. It is an experience that you cannot miss.

Visited with my family.. We loved the place.. The zoo area is beautiful.. The park is huge, very organized and with plenty of things to do for adults and children. Visited on a Saturday and it wasn't too crowded. We wished we had more time to visit a second time since there is not enough time to enjoy the whole park and activities in just one day.

The Colombian version of Disney world. For only about $16 ( and a percentage of ticket sales gets donated to a children’s hospital ) you can easily spend the entire day enjoying full access to the whole park which includes a couple of boat rides, museums and a ton of attractions. You’re even allowed to bring your own snacks and drinks. I had a great time and I highly recommend this park.

Nemocón Salt Mine

Nature & Parks
Caverns & Caves
Nemocón Salt Mine, located near Bogota, is a popular tourist attraction offering guided tours of an underground salt mine dating back to the 1800s. The colorful village of Nemocón adds to the overall experience, making it a fun and recommended visit. Visitors can explore the mine's displays showcasing mining life and learn about the ingenious methods used for salt extraction.
Carolina is an amazing guide and great experience. She explained everything very well and is very knowledgeable. Definitely worth the drive and small entry price. Amazing experience and so much history.
Jeromia S — Google review
The Nemocón Salt Mine is a wonderful place to explore the history of salt mining in Colombia while enjoying a unique and scenic underground experience. It’s a great plan to share with family, especially because the entire visit is guided by knowledgeable staff who share fascinating facts about the mine's past and geology. The tour lasts around two hours and takes you through beautifully lit tunnels and chambers that offer amazing photo opportunities. The lighting highlights the textures and colors of the salt rock, creating a magical atmosphere that feels both mysterious and peaceful. One thing to keep in mind is that there is no official parking near the mine. Visitors often have to leave their cars or motorcycles on the street or use improvised parking areas, which may not feel completely secure. Also, taking the guided tour is practically mandatory, so it’s important to plan at least two hours for the full experience. As for pricing, entry costs are generally over 40,000 COP, which may feel a bit high, but the overall experience, the quality of the tour, and the unique location make it worthwhile.
Marlom G — Google review
This is worth the drive. If you rent a car, expect navigation to take you through some bumpy roads. But the visit was great. The guide was very Knowledgeable and kind. Recommend making the trip out there.
Jesse S — Google review
Very interesting site to visit. The visit starts at a museum, where the guide goes through a very detailed explanation about geology, fossils and lastly about mining in the region, with technical and historical facts. Then we proceed to the actual mine visit. There are many beautiful sights, as well as more interesting information about the mine itself.
Gabriel K — Google review
An incredible feat of engineering that has spaned through hundreds of years from pre-Columbian, colonial and contemporary time. The museum is surprisingly great. In my opinion, far better than the Zipaquirá salt mine. Less of a commercialized tacky experience. Our guide was a man named Julian who was very knowledgeable and friendly. You're encouraged to tip at the end. There are different prices for locals and foreigners.

Located in the charming town of Zipaquira, about 30 miles from Bogota, the Salt Cathedral is a unique underground sanctuary carved within a salt mine. Standing at an impressive 2,652 meters above sea level, this subterranean wonder offers guided tours and features a souvenir shop for visitors. Despite its name, it doesn't have the typical architectural structure of a cathedral and lacks religious figures or priests. Descending about 660 feet below the surface adds to its mystical ambiance.
It was an incredible experience and I recommend to everyone who’s visiting Colombia to come here! It is such a unique experience and you get to experience something that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world. The tour guides were very fun and made the experience even more enjoyable. Great food and awesome pictures. Nothing bad to say about the place.even if you’re not religious it is an experience worth while.

What a place, really cool and definitely something you need to do at least once in your life. I liked the first part as you get to see all the different rooms one after the other, they have cool lighting inside so the rooms look really nice. I also really liked the first movie room where it explained how the mine was created and why. The only part I didn’t like was the part where they are selling stuff as it seemed more like a tourist attraction and less on an mine. You can’t see the full mine and I wish they had more adventures activities and more of the mine open.

Impressive place. Absolutely must visit if in Bogota/Colombia. Take your time inside the cathedral / mine. There are shops etc down there. Easy spend 1-2 hour down. Recommend to take the train/bus when exit - free.
Lasse H — Google review
The Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá is one of the most unique and awe-inspiring attractions I’ve ever visited. Built inside a working salt mine, this underground cathedral combines natural beauty, architecture, and spirituality in a truly magical way. The moment you descend into the tunnels, you can feel the peaceful and sacred atmosphere all around you. The lighting design is breathtaking — colors reflecting off the salt walls create a surreal, almost celestial ambiance. Each of the Stations of the Cross is beautifully carved, and the main cathedral chamber leaves you speechless with its grand scale and artistic detail. It’s incredible to think everything here is made of salt! The guided tours are well-organized and informative, offering fascinating insights into the history of the mine and the faith that inspired its transformation. There’s also a lovely souvenir area, a café, and even a small light show that adds a modern touch to the experience. This isn’t just a church — it’s a masterpiece of engineering, art, and devotion hidden deep underground. A visit to Zipaquirá wouldn’t be complete without seeing it!
Vakhtang J — Google review
The Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá is one of the most incredible tour experiences you can have near Bogotá. The moment you enter the salt mine, the atmosphere, lighting, and architecture take your breath away. The cathedral is beautifully carved, peaceful, and truly unique — unlike anything else in the world. The tour is well organized, the guides are knowledgeable, and every section of the mine tells a powerful story. Whether you’re visiting for cultural, historical, or spiritual reasons, this place is unforgettable.
Magno T — Google review
What have they done to this place? I’ve been here 10 years ago and it was amazing. And of course it is still impressive but they have now turned it into a Disneyland/shopping mall. There are are dozens of shops inside the mine, I’ve counted at least two ice cream shops and someone thought that it was a good idea to put a cafeteria in there. So now you walk around this impressive man made structure smelling burned oil…On top of that the audioguide is a joke. They tell you absolutely nothing about the history of the place, how the indigenous started mining. It’s focused on religious stuff and how Jesus walked with the cross. This h smithing to do with the place. Furthermore they have increased the price for foreigners to 110.000. Which would have been fine if they would have left the place as it was, instead of turning into a fun park.
Daniel — Google review
The Salt Cathedral is an unforgettable experience, blending faith, art, and natural wonder deep inside the earth. Walking through the illuminated tunnels feels almost otherworldly, and the sculpted Stations of the Cross add a powerful sense of devotion. The main cathedral hall is stunning, but the gentle presence of the Rosary Mother statue stands out even more—quiet, comforting, and beautifully crafted. It’s a place that invites reflection, prayer, and a deep sense of peace, making the visit both moving and memorable.

The Diocesan Cathedral of Zipaquira, also known as the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, is a stunning Roman Catholic church located in a vibrant plaza at the heart of Zipaquira. The city's lively social scene unfolds in this picturesque setting, with children on bicycles and groups of teenagers adding to its Andalusian charm. The cathedral itself boasts exquisite colonial architecture, featuring beautiful side altars and columns that transport visitors back in time.
Another stunning South American Plaza! Great plaza edged by a beautiful cathedral with unusual stonework. Spent two hours looking at it having a trout for lunch with a few beers on a terraced restaurant. Class day out!

An impressive church in that you can see its age, everything is preserved as it was 150 years ago and yet the church still functions for funerals.

Visited on our trip to the Salt athedral. Very different materials used in the construction compared to other churches. Very lucky they opened the door at 11.30 am when we just about to leave.
Roger G — Google review
A beautiful church that is an excellent example of colonial architecture. With wonderful side altars and columns. The Plaza which it resides in is also very pretty. The church definitely suffered from a poor renovation after the Second Vatican Council, as the altar that the church has now is uninspiring. It is for that last reason that the church gets 4 stars instead of 5, for its poor renovation.
S F — Google review
A very pretty church that is huge and has a rich architecture. The main square also is huge and adds grandeur to the imposing structure of the church. The earthly structure has its own charm compared to the church in Bogota. The church and the square though gets over shadowed by the more popular salt mines of Zipa.
Vivek J — Google review
This was defenitely one of the best places to visit while in Zipaquira. When you go inside it feels like you are traveling in time, it is just amazing. The surroundings of the church are also so beautiful, it takes you to the old great times of the town. If you are visiting Zipaquira make sure not to miss the opportunity to visit this amazing place.

Here you will find in the surrounding areas to Bogota city, you will find a lot of very interesting rock formations accompanied with some interesting pictographic expressions from Muisca Indian tribes prior to Spaniard conquest, unfortunately, ever since last enhancement performed by national university back in 2005, hence now the major hall is in charge of managing the resources for this park, but they have neglected it a lot, anyway, is a great place hopefully everyone will strive to care of itr

High-altitude lake popular for trout fishing, plus mountain biking in the surrounding pine forest.
Neusa is one of the most serene, calm, peaceful country sides I have visited so far. Also considering the fact that it is so close to the city, makes it even more special. We visited the place for a shoot and it was amazing. The trees, the birds, the lake and it's surrounding. You can rent the equipment needed for a BBQ, but it doesn’t include skewers or charcoal, so be sure to bring your own. They say you can bring your car, but the site isn’t really designed for vehicle access. The landscape is peaceful and beautiful, though a bit chilly—so dress warmly. Overall, it’s a relaxing and enjoyable spot. There are some stray dogs around, but they’re very friendly and gentle. They don’t bother anyone — they’re just hoping for a bite to eat. If you can, bring a little extra food for them. They add a bit of warmth to the place.

Safe guarded area and good spots for camping. Almost no people on the weekdays. Bathrooms, sinks with clean and freezing cold water, wooden tables and parillas. You need to bring your own wood to burn (or buy on the territory). Very cold at night so extra warm blankets are highly advised. Entrance to camp is 21500 cop per person.

Great place to visit on a lazy day at San Francisco / La Vega. Beautiful nature, quiet and friendly helpful staff. Witnessed the release of a sloth in the reservation after being rescued somewhere in the colder areas of La Vega. Three paths to walk, easy, but need to watch your step. It can be muddy and slippery. Great place to spot birds, tortoises, butterflies, fireflies, and much more if patient and quiet enough. Looked after contractors from the municipality, it looks tidy and well kept. Please leave your dog at home to not scare away wildlife.

A beautiful place to have a walk, lots of birds and very peaceful
Andres T — Google review
It is very rustic Park with no trails maps nor toilet or changing facilities nor food nor refreshments. The lake is muddy not looking good for swimming with looks like big carp and some ducks. Trails in the area and around the lake are hand-built stone paths take care walking often people walk beside on smoother ground. Several groups came when we did and one walk up above to view point or around the lake all left in less than one hour. Lots of tropical plants and entrance displayed wide variety of butterflies but we saw none. There is a nice little restaurant across the road from the entrance. Admission was 28509 for 3 adults. Long drive from La Vega for not much.

2 different options: 1- Drive from Bogotá(1hr and 20 min) Check out the lake and have lunch in La Vega.( Many more options than at the lake) 2- For enthusiast bikers and hikers, ride your bike from La Vega to the lake. (1.2 hour climb) then hike your way up to the peak of the mountain next to the lake (40 min climb).
Juan Z — Google review
It's a pretty place near by La Vega, just be aware that if the weather has been a little rainy, some parts of the path may be muddy.

This a great spot to have an incredible view. We went there by car but some people use their motorcycle and bike. Please if you are going bring some food. There two beautiful dogs there waiting for you and your love. The view is amazing you can see Magdalena river and this place is for free. There is a sign that says you will contact someone but this is not necessary. Do not park in the close area because you car will be stuck. Park in the hill before going down. Anyway you will have a incredible experience.

A beautiful view of the Tolima department. Taxis will take you here from Guaduas for 30 mil and wait for you. Still you have through a steep rocky path that can be very slippery, consider wearing shoes and not flip-flops. All in all, worth visiting for the mesmerizing view.

Amazing place. You must go there if you stay near Guaduas

View was with the hike. The turn off from the main road is marked with a large sign. You need to park or be dropped off at the school to start the hike. There are signs on the hike, but not well marked. We followed the trail of garbage from other tourists (not sure I understand the need to spoil such beautiful with garbage). There are no bathrooms along the way. Has an amazing view of the Rio Magdalena.

Amazing museum and amazing attention, its small but has a ton of history there. If you are there to learn and with time there are books from the botanical expedition, and from what is around Magdalena river. Highly recommended, after it you can go to the first bridge constructed in its kind in Latin America about 5 blocks away.

A great museum to learn about Honda's history through the glow of the river. Staff is very friendly and kind, they answered all our questions (we did ask many) The museum is located inside a historic building, which makes it cooler than the outside, which makes you want to stay longer, on top of the great exhibits

Wonderful place to learn about the river's current and historic uses, and the lives of fishermen. I loved reading about the steamboats and their merchandise, the people who traveled on the river. Lots of artifacts too. A mandatory stop in Honda, Tolima. Don't miss the book about a butterfly collection rediscovered in Germany...

It has a good atmosphere, it is also known as "the park of the iguanas" though. The iguanas have been gone for years. It is very hot and it is advisable to buy food in shops, not in street stalls, as some are not sanitary.

Parques Temáticos Hacienda Nápoles

Mentioned on

Theme park
Nature & Parks
Large zoo with African animals & a cultural musuem, plus a waterpark with slides & a lazy river.
Excellent places to spend a day and more. You won't be able to see everything it has to offer in one day. It's huge and has many things to do from the Safari ride to the water parks, museums, restaurants, amusement parks. The price entrance is worth it. Some things to keep in mind: you cannot enter with food, you can buy your tickets in advance, and food inside is expensive. Also, it's around 4 hours away from Medellin. Hotels aren't cheap either.
Samuel B — Google review
Hacienda Nápoles was much more than we expected. We had a wonderful experience. Paying for the three days for $159,000 is not only convenient but also a very good deal. I recommend paying the $28,000 to get into the car; it's a very large place. They thought of everything. The place is wonderful, and each space has its own charm. My teenager loved it; the slides are varied and very fun. The new attraction, the amusement park, Congo, is also entertaining and closes until 8 p.m. the other parks closed at 5pm. The workers are very friendly and attentive.
Johanna P — Google review
Huge park 🏞️ , very nice lots of activities for families and friends group , it's 3 hours and 30 mins drive from Medellin city centre , and be ready for hot weather 🌡️☁️ , their are hotels also inside which you can book in advance to stay their .
Salem M — Google review
I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. My friend and I only payed for general entry and struggled to see everything so I would recommend one day for the zoo and one day for the theme park/water park. The food options were slim so bring your own food unless you’re happy with fried chicken (it was delicious). My only complaint is the maps provided in the park were very difficult to read and many of the animal enclosures (big cats, baboon and reptile enclosures) didn’t seem very ethical. I couldn’t see anything enrichment activities for animal and some of the enclosures were very small with little to no shelter. Another concern was the snakes were covered in parasitic ticks!
Henry S — Google review
Horrible. It's very expensive for what it is. The park brags over 1500 animals... we saw maybeeee 60. Most of the animals were sad, in small enclosures, and visibly unhappy. The lonesome elephant was missing his tusks. The park is massive. You cannot get around without a vehicle. The kids waterpark is packed... and for some reason, my 10 years old, who knows how to swim, isn't allowed to go down the slides without me accompanying him. The slides let off in shallow water... so I really don't get it. The large waterpark has huge lines. After waiting almost 2 hours to get into the slide with my son, I was told that I couldn't because of the bars (piercings) in my ears. They require tools to be removed, which I explained, and was still denied access because they may fall out. 1. So what??? And 2. Do you not think people have body piercings that aren't visible that that can happen with?? Stupid. The Congo, where the rides are is also full of long lines. Rides are in poor condition. Some coasters only operate at half capacity. This park is only open for 3 hours a day, and with the lines, you'd be lucky to get in 3 rides during that time (we only managed 2). Food is horrible and ridiculously over priced. Waste of time and money.
Its M — Google review
A minimum of one day visit to this thematic park is needed since it's extremely large and has so many things to do. You will be fascinated by the amount of wild satic animals. They have beautiful swimming pools. Gardens restaurants, a museum where you can have a crude explanation of what this was in the past, and its owners. You need to book in advance, and its better if you take all attractions
Erick B — Google review
I enjoyed everything about this place. The wildlife, the scenery, the water parks, the hospitality of the people who work there, and the list could go on. I especially had a great time feeding Vanessa and having that close encounter with the hippos. If you aren't staying in the park, I would recommend getting there as soon as it opens so you can have time to explore everything this park has to offer. I didn't get a chance to see the museums or visit all of the water parks because I got there too late, however, overall a fun experience.

Visitors can partake in an array of activities such as white-water rafting, canopy tours, and spelunking in the stunning Caverna de los Guacharos. The reserve is a haven for bird-watchers with its diverse avian population.
Just… wow. The cave experience was one of the best things I’ve done in my life. Pretty scary but if you can swim you should try it. The natural world is beautiful! Not much, if any, English is spoken here so either brush up or bring a friend that can translate. The included meals were pretty good! Bring bug spray and a waterproof headlamp with extra batteries. This is also very rural. Little to no cell service and no wifi so come prepared to be off the grid. Everyone is very friendly here. Highly recommend if you appreciate nature!

Absolutely fantastic and worth making the effort to get there. I stayed 3 nights I'd be happy there for 3 months! My room was at the top of the jungle again 15 minute walk down the river path, so I could hear nothing but nature! Heaven on earth. The tour through the cave is a MUST!! It's in my top 3 in Colombia so far! Also the tubing from Las Dantes is phenominal.

Pretty cool place. Our room opened onto the rainforest. No windows or a/c fyi, they provide mosquito nets on the beds. Bugs birds and water was loud and awesome. River canon looked like something out of an Indiana Jones movie. Food was sufficient, staff were pleasant. It gets hot and humid. Great swimming in the river. 2-3 days is plenty.

Great range od activities. De' Guatapé

Handicraft
Nature & Parks
Guatapé's handicrafts are a captivating aspect of the town's culture. Visitors to this charming place are treated to a plethora of unique handmade items that showcase the diverse artistic talents of local artisans. The history and traditions embodied in these crafts provide insight into the rich cultural heritage of Guatapé. From intricately designed pottery and colorful woven textiles to exquisite woodwork and vibrant paintings, each piece tells a story of skilled craftsmanship and creativity.
The charming cobblestone street of De Guatape in the town of Guatapé is a picturesque dream come to life. Lined with colorful colonial-era buildings painted in vibrant hues of crimson, azure, and canary yellow, the street is postcard-perfect and begging to be photographed. Around every turn is another photo opportunity—a bright red door framed by pink bougainvillea, an old blue bicycle leaning against a turquoise wall, patterned balconies and shutters in a spectrum of shades. The street is tailor-made for Instagram, with colorful vignettes at every glance. Strolling down De Guatape Street reminds me of the lovely cobblestone lanes of Sayulita, Mexico, another Pinterest-worthy town saturated with color and texture. Like Sayulita, half the joy of visiting Guatapé is wandering without aim, soaking in the atmosphere and discovering sweet moments of happenstance beauty. Whether you're an avid photographer or simply appreciate pretty places, De Guatape Street is worth exploring. Its postcard charm and instagrammability make it a highlight of any trip to the picturesque town of Guatapé.

We had a really wonderful wandering around in Guatapé and found this quite beautiful church. It is known as Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Carmen located in the main square of Guatapé. It is famous for its striking red and white facade, which shines brightly in the sunlight, and its impressive Greco-Roman architectural style featuring large arches and circular bevels on its columns. Inside, the church is noted for its colorful and elegant interior, including wooden elements and vibrant religious figures, creating a serene and reflective atmosphere. The altar is often decorated with flowers and colorful draped curtains, adding to its charm. The church is a central landmark in Guatapé, surrounded by cafes and the lively plaza.

The church is located inside Guatapé, located right next to the Main Park of Guatapé, and one of the tallest buildings in Guatapé as well. The colors of the church and just the whole architecture is pretty cool and unique as well. The church’s inside seems to be mainly made of wood which is pretty different to see in churches at least for me. It’s free to enter but do make sure to be quiet and respectful. The church’s ceiling is high and the whole spaces including the seats are pretty spacious. Definitely worth visiting when in Guatapé because it is one of the main attractions as well and doesn’t take a lot of your time especially if you’re in a tour group.

Established in 1865, the Church of Our Lady of Carmen captivates visitors with its central altar, a centerpiece of detailed wood carvings. The artistry extends to the side altars, each carved with equal skill and care. By 1930, the church had been equipped with benches for the congregation and updated with bells that reverberated throughout the area. During our visit, we had the chance to peek inside amid a service.

Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Carmen de Guatapé church is a very beautiful and large Catholic church located right on the main square. Its construction began in 1865. The church was inaugurated two years later but it took 70 years to complete the building. The church was built in the Greco-Roman style, characterized by large arches (you can see a lot of them inside) and circular bevels that adorn the bases and tops of its columns. The church strikes its visitors with its clean and exquisite lines and decor mainly made out of carved wood. It has a magnificent large altar. The entry is free and it is highly recommended to visit if in the neighborhood.

El Peñón de Guatapé, also known as Penol Rock, is a must-see destination near Medellin. This 200-meter-high granite monolith offers breathtaking panoramic views of the region and the stunning blue lagoon below. Visitors can climb the 659-step brick staircase to reach the top and enjoy the exceptional scenery. The area also offers various outdoor activities such as ziplining, speed-boating, kayaking, and fishing for families to enjoy.
Very touristy, but a breathtaking view. 800 steps to climb to reach the top, and a very nice reward! I'd recommend a visit as part of a package tour of Guatape and the surrounding area. We were lucky enough to arrive early to avoid the crowds. A must-do for the view!

In comparison to other places in the area, it's just OK... but you kind of have to go as it is on most tourist lists. The town of Guatape is lovely, even if it is a bit of a tourist trap.
Arthur K — Google review
We visited this interesting tourist spot with a day tour. We had quite good weather and we arrived early in the morning (around 10:30AM) when it was not too busy. At the bottom there lots of restaurants, souvenirshops and toilets. There are free toilets next to the ticketbooth so you don’t have to go to one of the restaurants where you have to pay. After you get your tickets you start the climb up. The stairs were quite okay, it took us about 20 minutes to reach the top. Here you have great views of the surroundings and the lake. There are toilets at the top as well. In about 30 minutes you can start your descend again which takes more or less the same amount of time. It was quite impressive to visit this.
Sam H — Google review
Really good option to look at, this is the biggest and nearest attraction if you are staying in Medellin. To go up it costs 30,000COP roughly $8.50 and to get there you have to climb 705 stairs (20 min climb). It’s not recommended if you have heart conditions and you still have to stop 3-4 times to catch your breath. Overall the place is very nice with a lot of food options and drinks.

I visited La Piedra del Peñón on a Wednesday morning. They opened at 8 AM, and we arrived by 8:20, which was perfect for avoiding the crowds of tourist vans that typically show up around 10 AM. We rented a car, and parking was minimal, though I don't recall the exact amount. The entrance fee was $15 per person, which seemed quite reasonable. As you make your way to the top, be sure to take pictures since the view is better ascending than descending. Prepare for some breaks on the way up—trust me, you'll need them! At the summit, you'll find snacks, drinks, and souvenirs available for purchase. You're sure to have a fantastic time!
