(Translated by Google) It is beautiful, quiet and family-friendly. We stayed at the campsite that is on the edge of the beach and it was spectacular. The good thing is that it has lighting on the street, not on the plot, which makes it magical. In our case we chose to light ourselves with kerosene lanterns. The good thing about being at this campsite was like being on a private beach and with everything within reach. There is a parador called Parador Chico which has a restaurant, pool games for children and even a mini warehouse with things you may need at the campsite. Luckily the campground is pet friendly, so we went with our own. Very nice experience, we will definitely return (Original) Es precioso, tranquilo y Familiar.

They have many green spaces, but they aren't maintained, and their beaches are riddled with filth, trash, and bottles left behind by the locals... ESTABLECIMIENTO JUANICÓ BODEGA

Winery
Food & Drink
Wineries & Vineyards
ESTABLECIMIENTO JUANICÓ BODEGA offers a delightful experience for wine enthusiasts. The vineyard provides a brief but enjoyable tour, with an opportunity to indulge in fabulous wine tasting and lunch. Visitors can savor generous portions during the tasting, set against a picturesque rustic backdrop. While it's quite a drive from Montevideo, the antique charm of the place adds to its allure.
The vineyard was just a vineyard and the tour was brief, but the wine tasting and lunch were fabulous! Generous tasting portions (and more if you wanted it), plentiful food and a gorgeous rustic setting. A surprising excellent cabernet. It should be noted that this winery is quite a drive from Montevideo.

what a wonderful experience. Beautiful tour. delicious variety of wines and perfect host, Andrés took such good care of our group. Felt like family! Tasting was paired with beautiful cheeses and meats. Highly recommended!
John H — Google review
Beautiful antique place. A little too commercial to my taste - tourists come by the buses. If you want to take the tour, without tasting, without having to make an advanced reservation and pay, try to join one of the tours in progress. Not guaranteed.

I have to say this is wonderful place to visit if you are like me, a wine lover. We visited for our anniversary, and shuttle trip is only 30 USD from Montevideo per person. Not only the wines are fantastic, the food is as great as the drink. The tour after the meal is very informative and you will learn about the winery make their wines. For the record, highly recommend to buy some of their reversed wine from the winery, as you can’t find them in the store in town.

(Translated by Google) It's a place we absolutely love: atmosphere, food, and service. The only thing, and that's why I didn't give it a 5⭐, is that there are no diabetic options, neither sugar-free nor anything with whole-wheat bread, since diabetics not only can't eat sugar, but also refined wheat flour. I hope they can improve that point! (Translated by Google) There are only a few adjectives that indicate with total accuracy what this Teatro Maccio is. One of them could be SPECTACULAR, others, MAGNIFICENT, BEAUTIFUL. Happily, they have preserved and restored it, respecting all of its history, and today, it is waiting for the public to fill it and enjoy it again. There are short tours with guides who are super friendly and correct. Without a doubt, it is advisable not to miss a visit.

(Translated by Google) The theater is beautiful; I'd already been there before, and the cafeteria is very nice. The only thing I didn't have a good experience with was the show management. Yesterday we went from Montevideo to see Maria Creuza, and four hours before the performance, they informed us it was canceled. They said they would refund the ticket price, but now they refuse to do so and are proposing to reschedule. I don't know if I'll be interested or able to go on another date, so rescheduling is useless. So, unfortunately, if we don't find answers, we'll have to turn to Consumer Protection. Aside from that, the theater is beautiful, and yesterday afternoon we were able to stroll around San José a bit on a lovely afternoon.

Great place to chill out and relax. Tiger, zebra, different types of snakes, iguana, camels etc. Lots of animals. Must visit for everyone.

Amazing place where you see several species wandering independently. Peacocks would walk next to you; safari is there too. It's a small sanctuary kind, would make the children delighted

The main thing you should know for entering is that they accept only cash. There's no kids toilets, in the women's area they're just 2(!) waters. There's a nice placita for kids though.
Lana B — Google review
Not a bad place if you have a family with kids, very well taken care of, I would improve the gift shop with better quality of local hand craft, pay attention to the sign of names off animals that were all switched. and at least some local fresh biscochos, empanadas and sandwiches de migas and a god selected coffee
Luis R — Google review
It was a nice to visit here with family but there was less crowd as expected
Harish K — Google review
First time there. Fee $ 150, around US$ 5 Well maintained Has two electric buses for make a trip for all the reserve. Some jails are small specially for monkeys, other are bigger. The same happens to the snake. Other species are free But what can I say it is a lovely place, specially for families whom go there to a little picnic when it is sunshine. Open 10 to 18 except Mondsy Tuesday
Cont E — Google review
I’ll preface this by saying my expertise is not in mammals so I can’t comment on their care. What I can comment about is the deplorable conditions their reptiles are kept in. The second you walk into the reptile room you’re hit with the stench of urate and feces. Believe me it’s not that hard to get reptile waste smell out of carpet (their chosen substrate for every single snake). One of the first things I noticed was their habitat for the common frog. It was open. No walls. Nothing. Just a fountain in the middle of the room where the frog could easily jump out. There was an LED light on the fountain but no sign of heating. For reference I went in winter where it was around 50° F (10°C), far too cold. In the same room is a tank with cohabitated leopard geckos and some kind of baby tortoise in a tank with no visible heating and a single hiding place. For those who don’t know too much about reptiles, you should never cohabitate leopard geckos under any circumstance. They will fight and hurt each other. You should also never mix species of reptile (something this eco park has never heard of). While I was looking at the leopard geckos, the turtle tank (again with mixed species) sprung a leak and emptied out all its water on the floor. The eco park staff seemed unsurprised and came by with a mop. Not sure if this is a usual occurrence. While the tanks themselves (the glass and size) aren’t awful, it’s what they fill them with that really upset me. Carpet substrate should be used sparingly, but it seems that’s all this zoo has ever heard of. Snakes that require high humidity have only small water bowls. Glass walls have no water spots or indication that someone mists them daily. The worst tank was for the tegus. No lights and no visible heating elements. There were two in a 2x4 foot tank; absolutely ridiculous. I could go on about how multiple snakes were kept in tanks far too small for those numbers or about the inadequate lighting and heating, but I’ll keep this already long review brief. If you care about animals or reptiles in general, avoid giving your money to this place.
JW — Google review

Bungalows ok! The park beautyfull and well maintended The pools ok, but low temperature between 34/36, under 37 that is not optimal. I went in winter
Santiago M — Google review
The fee is currently 2000 pesos per person on weekends. For that I would expect hot water in all pools, all jets working and clean pools. Obviously I mention it because none of that was true. The bottom of one pool was so filthy it made a cloud in the water as I walked over it. Many pools had no water. No jets were working. The grass and seating areas are very nice. The gardens look great. The bathrooms and showers near the pools were very clean. Others were filthy. The store and food prices were fair. This is not a true thermal pool, the chimney belches smoke as it tries to heat the water. The water was not the posted temperatures. The children’s pools offered various slides and more clear water than the hot pools. It could be an incredible place, but it is not. It is very average and in need of attention.

Nice place overall, there's only 4 hot pools and 2 of them aren't really hot. The environment is nice and there are many parrots and beautiful birds around. The area has many sitting zones Maintance could improve

Very good place for relaxing with hot spring pools. Rooms are a little dated, would certainly need renovation. The service and food at the inside restaurant is very good, food is served quickly, even with a crowded place. Breakfast is abundant, but just toasts, jam and pastries with coffee and a glass of orange juice. There's a little store where you can find essential things, but if you want to shop for your daily needs you need to drive to town (Gualeguaychú), about a 15 min drive.

Also, a few meters from "PV" there is a small kiosk called "Solana", it sells pretty cheap things in my opinion and the girl who works there is very nice. The only thing I can emphasize that is bad about Puerto Island is that dogs are not allowed, something that many families always bring for company and is also another member of the family. It is understood that their paws can burn because of how hot the sand is, but puppies should be allowed. (Original) Muy linda playa!

Nestled 33 kilometers west of Concepción, the Palacio San José is a stunning 19th-century pink palace that stands as a testament to Argentina's rich history. Surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens and topped with twin towers, this architectural gem was constructed by Justo José de Urquiza, a prominent figure in Argentine politics who played a crucial role in the downfall of his rival Juan Manuel de Rosas.
Museum full of art, history and beautiful outdoors and gardens, people there are super chill and nice and the women at the entrance speak good ingles, we felt welcome and enjoy our time. Only recommendation is to bring your own water and snacks because there’s nothing nearby really. Went there so many times and I’ll keep going because is just so beautiful
Alba G — Google review
Good place to go and learn a bit about Argentinian history. The guided walk-around was thoroughly explained, easy to understand. General Justo José Urquiza had a very modern Palace here. The only thing to improve is that they're not keeping it in good conditions and it is deteriorating. It would be a shame that important historical pieces were damaged because of this.
Keren S — Google review
This palace was the house of Justo José de Urquiza. One of the most powerful men of the XIX century from the area where Argentina was established. There you can go throughout the building and know all about his life, try to be there at 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 hours for a guided visit (it is free and only in Spanish) The place is amazing due its history, so do not avoid the guide tour. Try to read the book "Palacio de la memoria" before to go, due that the building is full of secret symbols. Up. Conservation of the building and garden, very helpful guide tour, free entrance and parking. Down. Restroom is not so clean.
German G — Google review
Worth visiting to see the house, its interiors and its gardens, even if you don't know who lived and was assassinated here. Sadly, the property has not been well maintained. Don't miss the chapel at the back.

It's a pity that such an interesting place is currently in a such state of decaying. Also, you see a lot of staff doing almost nothing

A beautiful piece of culture, it's a shame that a lot of the tourist amenities and tours have been removed, and they don't seem to have a mechanism to pay for maintenance / conversation of a beautiful estate
Morgan E — Google review
Lacks maintenance, a beautiful country palace, built in the 19th century, which is a national museum and used to be the home of the 1st president of Argentina, is at present a run down building with untended gardens. A real shame

There are two ancient flour mills, the first one moved by donkeys and the second powered by wind, although the last one did not work due weak winds. Is a worth visit due that the internal mills mechanism can be seen, and even though there is not guided visit, a person respond all questions. Also there are rooms set at the time. (Translated by Google) Excellent historical museum We visited it on a Tuesday during winter break It is very well managed and organized The price is $2,000 per adult (July 22, 2025) Upon entering, you are notified that the guided tour will begin when a bell rings. The guided tour was quite limited, but answered all our questions. The guide combines technological interaction with her explanations. You can tour the grounds and learn about the different points. You can bring your mate and enjoy a pleasant moment on the benches and tables. There are some old agricultural machinery from that era. The bathrooms are spotless, clean, and stocked with toilet paper. It is very nice to know that the place is prepared to accommodate people with reduced mobility: there are several wheelchairs on the premises. And some signs are translated into Braille for people with limited vision. A very nice place to learn a little about the history of the San José neighborhood with the arrival of the family. Forclaz, the work of the time, and his home There are some games for children: slides, swings, among others. No food or beverages are sold. (Translated by Google) My partner and I stayed in the EcoModules and were pleasantly surprised. They are very well equipped and heated: they have a full set of dishes, an electric oven, an electric kettle, and a stovetop. Although the shower is small, it serves its purpose perfectly; we never ran out of hot water. The deck gets all the praise: when the sun is shining, it's beautiful and you can enjoy some mate. There's also parking and grills in front of the EcoModule. Overall, the whole place is beautiful. The hot springs and spa are excellent—including the circuit and massage services—and there are many options for dining and activities. I highly recommend the friendly and helpful service from the reception and waiters. Without a doubt, a wonderful experience. We hope to return soon! Thank you so much for everything. ¡Esperamos volver pronto! Muchas gracias por todo.

(Translated by Google) Highly recommended for a couple, very well-equipped, with a full bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, and a comfortable dining room. With air conditioning in both rooms. The bedroom has storage space. My only criticism is the bedroom: the spring mattress is very loose (especially for those of us with back problems) and the bed, which, if you order a double bed, is right up against the wall (something we were clearly informed about when booking). The best part is the deck with the table and chairs where you can enjoy both breakfast and the sounds of the night. This is a review for the restaurant. The park was awesome. Review for La Casona Restaurant Unfortunately, our experience at La Casona was disappointing. None of us were happy with our meals—everything we ordered was either hard, lacked flavor, or was strangely prepared. It really missed the mark on all fronts. On top of that, we were surprised to see a charge of $2.20 per person just for using utensils, which was printed right on the menu. That’s a first for us, and frankly, it felt unreasonable—especially considering the food quality. In the end, we decided not to waste the rest of our time or money and went somewhere else for desert. Would not recommend.

I've been constantly going to this termal park for 6 years and has continuous managed to provide a great experience. A vast amount of pools with a wide water temperature range and different sectors for kids an adults alike. I rate it 4 stars mainly because there have been some changes that I disliked; such as changing the depth of the swimming pool from 2 meters and a half to a meter and sixty and the price spike probably caused by the mixing the termal complex with a great water park. It's still one of the cheapest among the many in the area though and has a spa and many eating facilities inside. A great place!

The receptionist at the accommodation was quite arrogant and haughty, the only means of payment they accept is cash, and she insistently told me GO AND WITHDRAW MORE CASH (without knowing how much cash I had). Without electricity and without water I paid the same for the stay as if I had the service. The Wi-Fi signal is given to you by 3 or 4 users and none of them work properly. (Translated by Google) The bungalows called "thermal coast" have hot water that lasts less than 4 minutes, not enough even for those of us with short hair. In the middle of July, not being able to take a peaceful hot shower on vacation seems basic to me. I wouldn't recommend it either, since they don't change the towels, but only EVERY THREE DAYS. Imagine in the middle of winter, when they don't dry no matter how many times you hang them up. Having wet towels to dry yourself doesn't seem basic to me either. Having dry towels is basic, since you pay for each day of your stay. Also keep in mind that until you sign, they don't tell you that the remaining daily amount of the bungalow is cash only; otherwise, they'll raise it by 20%.

Ruins of San Ignacio Miní

Ancient Ruins
The Ruins of San Ignacio Miní, located in Misiones Province, Argentina, offer a glimpse into the 17th-century Catholic mission. These ruins are renowned for their well-preserved state and intricate carved ornamentation. Visitors can explore the site's museum and enjoy interactive panels with multilingual audio guides. Additionally, a sound-and-light show is available on clear nights. The tour includes access to nearby ruins at Santa Ana and Loreto as well as Santa Maria la Mayor further away.
Visiting this historic site was a fantastic experience. The ruins are incredibly well-preserved, transporting you back in time and giving you a glimpse of how the indigenous people and Jesuits lived 400 years ago. We were lucky to arrive just as the guided tour (included at no extra cost) was starting. The guide was extremely knowledgeable about the site’s history and the region as a whole. The site also features two small museums, one near the entrance and another near the exit, which added even more context to the visit. The only downside is that the ticket office doesn’t accept credit cards. If you prefer paying that way, you’ll need to purchase your tickets online.

The museum sets the stage and the ruins fill in a lot of gaps. So impressed with what they built in the 1600's with creativity and artisan touches. Changed my understanding of what Jesuit Priests would do. Great efforts to keep it as restored as possible.

Jesuit Mission of the Holy Trinity

Mentioned on
1 list
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
The Jesuit Mission of the Holy Trinity is a captivating historic site featuring extensive ruins of a 1700s Jesuit mission. The red-brown stone church stands out against the lush green surroundings, with well-preserved decorative elements such as timeworn sculptures and elaborate baroque pulpit. Visitors can explore the crypt and restored earlier church and bell tower. The site also offers an evening sound and light show for an immersive experience.
We visited at 2 different times and hence the review is split into 2 sections. First the night visit after dark: We arrived at the Jesuit Mission of Holy Trinity around 8 pm, just as the locals were settling in with their evening routines and the TV tuned to the pre–World Cup game atmosphere. The site itself is atmospheric at night, with floodlights illuminating the ruins, but the overall experience left us a bit wanting. Our group joined a couple of buses full of schoolchildren from Asunción and nearby towns. The guide launched into an enthusiastic narration — entirely in Spanish. For us, we sorely missed the modern version of the “Babel fish” (forgive the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy reference!) just to keep up. Without translations, much of the history and storytelling was lost on us. We had expected a light show or video projection, which didn’t happen that night, so the visit was mostly walking through the ruins in the glow of the spotlights. To be fair, the structures and walls are impressive and well preserved, and even in the dim light you can feel the weight of history. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t help — at 57°F with rain and wind, the cold felt much sharper than the thermometer suggested. In short: For Spanish speakers: this can be a moving and educational evening experience. For English speakers: unless you come with a translator or during the day when more context might be available, it’s best to take a short walk, admire the ruins, and save the deep dive for a better-timed visit. Here is the review continued for the daytime: Visiting the Jesuit Mission of Holy Trinity in the morning made all the difference. The experience began with a short film (with English subtitles) that set the stage and gave clear context to everything we had seen the previous night. Our guide, Christian, then walked us through the remarkable history of the Jesuits — missionaries from the Society of Jesus who, in the 17th and 18th centuries, created settlements called reducciones. These were carefully planned communities where art, architecture, music, culture, and even astronomy were taught and valued. Unlike many other colonial efforts, the Jesuits placed less emphasis on evangelism and more on protecting and educating the Guaraní people, offering them refuge from exploitation while fostering a communal way of life. At their height, these missions became centers of faith, learning, and creativity. The site itself is expansive and well restored. We explored the imposing stone church, cloisters, main plaza, bell tower, second church, and rows of “Indian houses.” Each section brought to life the scale and vision of the reductions. The open grounds stretch wide, giving a sense of the mission’s former vitality. Practical notes: when we visited, the temperature was just 52°F with wind and damp air, and it felt much colder. The open fields mean the chill bites harder, especially after rain. A jacket and good walking shoes are highly recommended, as the grass can be wet and the terrain slightly uneven. In daylight, the ruins reveal both their grandeur and humanity — more than stones, they tell a story of cultural fusion, resilience, and the Jesuit vision of a just community. Truly a must-see UNESCO World Heritage site in Paraguay.
Sandeep S — Google review
One of the historical sights in Paraguay. We were there late in the morning. Unfortunately, it took a long time to buy the ticket because there was a tour group ahead of us. Unfortunately, work at the cash desk is very slow. It is not understandable why every guest's name is registered. It is highly recommended that you take sun protection and water with you, as there is no shade. It is also recommended that you plan your visit in the late afternoon or evening or early morning. You should also find out about the history in advance, otherwise it gets boring very quickly. There are very few explanations of the sights and only in Spanish. The lighting at night is certainly also very beautiful. During the day, unfortunately, too hot and possibly very boring.
Gingerfilm L — Google review
This was quite fascinating and well worth the trip to go see. Due to the weather, we were unable to go until just before sunset. While this made for great photos, it got dark quickly and there we got many mosquito bites.

The ruins are nice to see and they have a video you can watch with English captions. There's also history sheet translated in a few languages. There was no English tour guide though. The tickets you buy also include access to two other sites (one which is a 15 minute drive away) for three days.
Matthew R — Google review
The ruins are well-preserved and conveniently located in the town. For 40 mil, visitors can access three missions in the area, with a museum nearby to explore more of the site's history. A stunning light show takes place from Wednesday to Sunday, starting at 9:00 pm in the summer and 7:00 pm in the winter, offering a unique experience distinct from the Tavarangue mission. This site is highly recommended for anyone visiting the region.

Minas de Wanda

Mine
Guided tours of a precious stone mine, with a souvenir shop & a park themed around Guarani myths.
Must seen place)) and still owned by Bosch family)
Jafar K — Google review
Had my own private tour guide who spoke English well. $6 USD entry fee in Dec 2024. Spent quite a bit of time in the mine because I am very interested. Really cool to see! But the polished rocks in the gift shop are more costly than back home (2-3 times more expensive) plus you’d have to carry them on your travels. Some fist size amethyst specimens, for example, are over $50 USD. Ouch. No thank you. I don’t have confidence that most of those rocks in the shop come from the mine, other than the amethyst and some citrine. There were some booths along the road I wish I checked out that may sell local specimens at a more reasonable price, but I ran out of time. Buffet lunch with drink for one person at the nice on-site restaurant was $23 USD plus tip. Worth it to check out! (Took away one star for the overblown prices in the shop).
R S — Google review
If you’re in the area, this is a nice, interesting place to stop but, because it’s such a short tour, don’t go too far out of your way. My guide spoke English so that helped a lot. The mines were very interesting and the jewelry in the gift shop is VERY beautiful - so be careful!
Mary Z — Google review
We visited the Wanda Mines early in the morning, crossing from Brazil into Argentina around 7 AM to avoid the border crowds. The drive took about an hour from the Brazilian side, passing through two small towns before reaching Wanda, a quiet community founded by Polish and German immigrants after World War II. The visit itself was surprisingly interesting. You get to see how the crystals—especially amethyst—are extracted directly from the rock, and mining operations are still active today. At the end, there’s a shop where they sell the stones taken from the mine, with plenty of beautiful pieces to choose from. Overall, it’s a pleasant and educational stop that takes about an hour and a half. If you’re already heading to the Argentinian side for sightseeing, it’s definitely worth the extra time to visit the mines as well.
Alper Y — Google review
The mines were OK. It takes about 5 minutes to go through the mines. You are told about the different rocks originating from the mine by the guide. There are food shops and a touristy souvenir shop close by. If you want to get cheaper souvenirs, without the touristy inflation, try going just outside the mines, the locals sometimes have stalls and sell things cheaper.
Alena — Google review
Interesting place. You can access the mines that are only at floor level. Nice collection of geodes. The are a nice restaurant close.
Gustavo C — Google review
This was one of the first places we visited on our trip, and it was worth the drive. Gonzalo the tour guide, was incredibly patient with our son and did his best to include him throughout the visit. The gift shop at the end is lovely, if a little bit pricey considering we were at the mines.
Nathalie M — Google review
We are from the United States and really liked the mine tour. One of the guides speaks English which were were grateful for. He gave us a really nice tour. The shop is very nice with items at all price points. We hired a taxi from Puerto Iguazu who drove us to mine, waited, and returned us to Puerto Iguazu.
