Farol de Santa Marta

Mentioned on

Sights & Landmarks
Hiking area
Farol de Santa Marta is a picturesque whitewashed lighthouse located amidst beaches and sand dunes, offering stunning views and photo opportunities from its summit. The well-maintained antique structure, once powered by whale oil, stands out with its bright white paint. Accessible via a relatively easy trail that meanders through blooming flowers and fluttering butterflies in the summer, this location also attracts birdwatchers due to the diverse bird species flying around the area.
Very nice place to visit, you have to hike a little to get tp the top but overall the view is amazing 👏.
Alexander A — Google review
Spectacular view from the top of the hill where the lighthouse sits. You have to park your car on the street and walk up a trail to the top of the hill , but it’s and extremely easy walk without too much inclination. It was summer when we went, so flowers were blooming and butterflies where hovering all around. This is a fascinating location for birdwatchers given the variety of birds flying around the trail. Once at the top of the hill and facing north, there’s is a stunning view of an old cemetery overlooking the ocean and a sand dune covered beach. Facing west, you are directly about the beach and town of Santa Marta. And East, is obviously an open view of the ocean crashing upon rocks. The lighthouse was closed, but even so, the view is worth the short hike up.
Vivianne M — Google review
Great place for a city escape. Signal reception is not good, non existent in some places. The village is really small, with not much to do, specially at night. There are great beaches to visit, some accessed through short trails.
Paula R — Google review
The village didn't change much in the last 10 years, which - for me - is positive. I love the atmosphere. The lighthouse is somewhat nostalgic. If you're lucky, the Cardoso beach will surprise you with nice waves and crystal clear water.

An antique lighthouse that long ago functioned with whale oil. Beautiful and well-maintained, with bright white paint. The reason I only gave 4 stars was due to faulty directions, Google deposited us next to a cemetery. A couple of locals told us we could get to the lighthouse from there, and we found a section of fence missing and a small footpath twisting among cactus and tall grasses and weeds. Once we arrived at the lighthouse we pivoted and saw a sign behind us warning that venomous snakes were in that area. The area we had just crossed. Now we had a snake-infested field between us and 12-yr-old and our car. We couldn't shout a warning to our kid because of the wind and waves, but fortunately he didn't try to follow us. Anyway, I'm going to try to suggest a different route, but if you end up next to a cemetery, don't walk through the plants to get to the lighthouse!

The canyons park is good. The 3.5km walk to see the canyon exit is very good, and the landscape is very impressive. Good to go with your family. Remember to get a jacket before to go: the weather changes quickly.

The most beautiful part of this place is the nature. Therefore there's no have safe structure for your children or pets. There's no signals or posts of directions on the road. The road that we used was very straight. But, I have a good point to explain: the view is exciting! And there's a lot of plant types. You'll take a lot of photos on end of the day, when the sun is running away.

Aparados da Serra National Park is a stunning natural reserve located in Cambara do Sul, with headquarters for both Aparados da Serra and Serra Geral National Parks. The park boasts breathtaking canyons like Itaimbezinho, Fortaleza, Churriado, and Malacara.
Very beautiful views even with fog. The best part was the little house that sells homemade pastel!
Sopaipilla — Google review
This park is for the rich, not for normal people, to whom it should be accessible! The greed is disgusting. With all the taxes wasted in Brazil, there was not money left to make national heritage accesible to the general public? Whoever is responsible for this absurd entrance fee and commercial industrialization of national heritage should be ashamed, and the state lawmakers should do something. In Rio de Janerio, National Parques are for free. Poor or rich, anyone can enter for free. In Rio Grande do Sul, all parks are difficult to enter (registration processes for national forests are stupidly beaurocratic, and extreme fees for national parks). Its beyond absurd, especially considering how much nature has been destroyed. Never seen anything like in Rio Grande do Sul before. Not in Brazil and not in any other country. Basically no forest or park where people can just go for free without paying fees or registrating 3 days in advance through beaurocratic application forms, having to wait for approval. Absurd and unjust. Its a disgrace!
Linnart M — Google review
Amazing place, but be mindful of the weather. I've been told that the winter is the best season to visit. If you visit during the summer you might end up only seeing fog like I did. 🙃

Acqua Lokos, a serene establishment boasting cozy log cabins and offering an array of amenities such as a water park, petting zoo, restaurant, and bar. The water park itself provides thrilling rides that are pleasurable for visitors, along with delectable food options at reasonable prices. However, it is advisable to avoid weekends due to potential long queues. This remarkable destination presents diverse opportunities for amusement and dining experiences.
Incredible place. First, it's huge and there's so much to do. Took our 3 year old and there were a surprising amount of activities for someone her age. There are lots of pools and splashpads, various water slides for all ages and aventurine levels, a lazy river, a wave pool, pedal boats on the lake, a train ride to a farm with animals, roller coasters (even for toddlers), a ferris wheel, multiple play areas/ playgrounds. You could easily spend a couple of days here enjoying the park. There are also bathrooms everywhere which is so nice with a little kid. Tons of food choices and lots of chairs/ umbrellas for shade. They also have a giant indoor water area if you want to go in the winter or even just get out of the sun a bit. Overall amazing experience and if I lived closer I'd be getting the annual pass.
Franci T — Google review

Visitors can also enjoy the breathtaking views of the 130-meter Caracol Falls from a cable car.
Very nice place to visit. The best in the Gramado / Canela area. Very clean, well organized, super friendly staff and super sightseeing. Super choice!
Paulo K — Google review
Very nice park with waterfalls and wild animals. It is a perfect place for you coming with your family for a happy day. However, remember that this is a touristic place. So, if you don't like crowded places, it is better you come during the weeks days, in low season periods.
Rafa H — Google review
Like many things in Gramado/Canela, the Caracol Park is overpriced. R$75 for an adult or 90 with the mirador. Add to that parking (30) and if you want to do the little train inside (hard to avoid with kids) it’s another 20. The views are nice, and compared to other things in the area it’s not a complete rippoff, but it’s too expensive nonetheless It’s not accessible like they claim. If you’re on a wheelchair forget about it. If you’re with a stroller, prepare for a treat: the gravels uphill are a delight!
AJ J — Google review
It's small, so don't expect to hike in nature. Well maintained. The only way to see the larger waterfall is via some observation platform you have to wait in line for. There's another short walk to a waterfall where you can get closer. I think it's designed mostly for families with children--lots of playgrounds and BBQ areas.
Nathan J — Google review
The falls are quite impressive but this is a expensive touristic attraction. You can't get close to the water and you have to pay extra if you want to access the best spot to have a picture of yourself with the falls
Rousselle M — Google review
Beautiful place to spend the day with nature. We saw a hummingbird and a toucan and had a wonderful time hanging in the hammocks and viewing the waterfalls.
Emily T — Google review
Price is way too expensive - R$70 per person for regular adults. We saw the waterfall for free by going to the cable car park farther down the road, entering the car gate on foot and walking to the viewpoint by the parking lot - the only problem with that one is that you currently can't see the bottom quarter of the falls because some trees are in the way.
Bao B — Google review

Mini Mundo is a must-visit outdoor park in Gramado, featuring intricate miniature replicas of famous international buildings. This miniature universe has been under construction for over 30 years and showcases detailed replicas of real locations, all at a scale 24 times smaller than the original. The park's central location makes it a popular tourist attraction, with miniatures including the Prince of Monaco's Castle, Curitiba's Botanical Garden, and Porto Alegre's Gasometer.
My 4-year-old daughter loved this place and spent more than two hours here without getting bored. Note: There is also a nursing room for families with babies.

An awesome experience, the park is well structured, the mini-buildings are fascinating. Really cool how smaller structures can be built and look like the real building. Definitely worth a visit! Buy tickets in advance so you don’t have to wait in line.
Eric V — Google review
It is a pretty cool place. The “mini world” is very detailed and feels alive. There are many landmarks (mostly Brazilian and German) and they are very well done. Adults and kids will have a good time there (2 or 3 hours to see everything if you aren’t in a rush). Look out for the weather since this is an open museum.
Willian — Google review
Beautiful place, very well designed and built. Great for kids and enjoyable for adults. Pay a lot of attention to details, the small figures are doing all sort of fun stuff. The Cafe is not expensive and the food is very good
Esteban R — Google review
Cute lovely detailed miniature representations for local and some internationals buildings. And is not only about the structure they really paid attention to details and you can find the most lovely and or hilarious scenes blend in the landscape! If you look carefully it will be way much fun!

Mini Mundo was an amazing attraction. So much time was spend on the tiniest details that were truly mind blowing. Entire cities 1/100th of the size were created. Many different cities from countries like Brazil and Germany. The mascots were cool too. The family enjoyed themselves here.

(Translated by Google) The worst experience I've ever had in Gramado. Starting with the staff, whose unspoken ill will... It started with "we're closed now" when I walked in the door. It just started with that, without a good afternoon or anything, right there at the door (which was open, by the way). I apologized and said I'd seen on Google that they'd be open. Then, they told me I could order à la carte, but not lunch. Do you understand why they didn't even let me in before trying to talk me out of buying? Who said I was looking for lunch? It seems they just want the customer to leave as soon as possible so they don't have to serve them. Unfortunately, such poor service in such a good location... disappointing. Since I was already there, I decided to eat (a terrible decision). They claim to be meat experts, but the meat was too dry. Unfortunately, it was terrible.

(Translated by Google) Disappointing. I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. The price wasn't very appealing, the buffet was all-you-can-eat but with limited options. According to the information, we were entitled to a grilled cut. Terrible. The meat was charred on the outside and tough, even though I'd ordered it "medium rare." To top it all off, a pagode group was singing at the top of their lungs (the sound was way above "pleasant") some of their hits, so off-key it was frightening. (Original) Decepcionante. Li as avaliações e resolvi testar.

(Translated by Google) We arrived with 6 adults and 2 children on a Saturday during a holiday. We understood that this would cause a wait, but we didn't imagine that it would take more than an hour for the food to arrive. More than 30 minutes for the drinks to arrive, and even then, they gave us a draft beer that we had been watching for more than ten minutes on the counter, now warm. The food on the menu is beautiful, but the actual food is terrible. Salad with so many leaves that there is no room for the other ingredients on the plate, completely unseasoned; empty that looks like anything but empty; super hard cassava, impossible to eat; 12-hour ribs, pure fat; a dish that never arrived. It was impossible to talk to any of the waiters while we waited, they walked quickly past the table without looking at the customers. When we got up to ask about our orders, they said they would check and didn't get back to us. Oh, and as for the price, they charge much more than what they offer. You can't say that it's a cheap place and that's why the service and food are terrible. Anyway, it was a terrible experience. I really hope they improve or change the management soon, because it's a great place for those who visit the beautiful Lago Negro. Winter-themed park with an alpine-style village & an indoor, snow-covered hill for skiing & tubing.
Expensive and super worth it, we went for the skiing experience and you have to pay separately for the entrance ticket and the rentals to ski or snowboard. Classes are available and all the instructors were really kind and fun! There was a skate show too that was super fun, and lots of other activities. Wear layers and I would recommend doubling your socks. Best experience in Gramado/Canela

Unfortunately this place isn't as organized as before and the long queues til you enter and get dressed takes much of the vibes away. Also, now you gotta PAY to leave your shoes stored and have to take another queue for that.
Sergio S — Google review
We didn’t expect that we were able to Ski and Snowboard in Brazil. We can enjoy it with artificial snow. We can rend cloth, shoes and grove to do snow tube slider. And if we pay additional fee, we can Ski and Snowboard. We can also rend Ski and Snowboard tool. On the weekend, there will be very crowded. So you need to buy entrance fee by interest in advance.
Papipupenta — Google review
The park is really nice, especially for kids. However, when it's too crowded it's not well organized. We had to wait over an hour just to get dressed in at least three different queues. It can be confusing.
Jorge S — Google review
great place. lots of fun but my 6 year-old wasn't tall enough to even ice skate
Kevin S — Google review
Awful experience during the school holidays. Heavily overbooked, super long queues, uttet chaos when having to find clothes, boots and gloves. Few staff members and management on site to help. And when we managed to get to the 'snow' after 2 hours, we went tubing once because the queues were so ridiculous. So then we thought we'd go ice skating, to find that the last time was 4.30pm. Utter waste of money and will never return.
Gemma F — Google review
We arrived on a low season period and once at the door we were approached by two employees with badges of the place saying that they were putting us all through the “event”, because the place was full. The “event” was them trying to sell us a time sharing. Nothing against them selling this, but what bothers a lot is them LYING saying is full so they can get our data. When we found that out, we just said no and asked to buy a regular ticket to go in and there was NOBODY on the line of cashier number 5 where they sell regular tickets for people who do not want to buy their time sharing. Inside the place, as we expected there were not many people, but the attractions had very confused rules, some they said kids needed to have at least 1,15m but nobody was reinforcing it, while in others they were turning kids out for 1 centimeter. The restaurant on the 2nd floor was almost empty but they not only took a long time to bring our food but also made a mistake on our order. We felt really disrespected at the front door as we were lied by official employees and the confuse rules and bad service at the restaurant

Visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from its balcony for just 30 pesos.
Incredible view! Plus, get some exercise done on the way up 😂 Pay attention to when it’s open, because it’s very limited Even if you don’t get to go up, it’s a great sight, and the sea lions lie behind it in the rocks, so it’s a must

I've been visiting this place since i was a kid. Only 8yo+ allowed. The way up is as easy as it gets for a lighthouse. If you're claustrophobic the initial steps may bother you, but after those, the stairs are very spacious. Up there in the balcony there's a great 360 view, and super windy.

Opened till sunset, "puesta del sol" which is interpreted by the 'boss' there as "kick out all tourists 20 minutes before sunset, i want to go home".. The younger employee wanted to let us up but was not allowed to. Other tourists that were already upstairs were called down 15 min before sunset. All were mad about this bulls*it... Lighthouse is nice from outside.

Beautiful view of the whole surrounding for less then 1$ a person, 30.pesos. climbing is a bit exhausting if someone not in shape. Another thing need to mention is the the distance between the rail shelves is too wide, and my slim daughter could easy slip between. Other then that, its a great experience.

Playa Vik Jose Ignacio is a luxurious and modern hotel that opened in 2009, offering refined quarters, a gym, a restaurant, and an outdoor pool. It is situated on the coveted point of Playa Mansa with a stunning 75-foot infinity pool made of Uruguayan black Absolute Nero granite overlooking the ocean. The internationally acclaimed architect Carlos Ott designed this glamorous hotel. Guests can enjoy beautiful sandy beaches, excellent service at La Susana restaurant, and well-kept surroundings.
My stay at Playa Vik José Ignacio was nothing short of magical. From the moment I arrived, I was in awe of the architecture—this place is an absolute architectural marvel. Sleek, art-filled, and effortlessly sophisticated, it’s truly a design lover’s dream. I stayed in the Fuerteventura Suite, which overlooks both the infinity pool and the ocean. Waking up to that view felt like living inside a dream. The bathtub alone deserves its own mention—spacious & sculptural. At night, the pool becomes pure magic—glimmering with twinkling lights that reminded me of a Rolls-Royce starlight ceiling. It truly felt like the stars had descended into the water. As someone with dietary restrictions, I was thrilled to find that everything at the hotel is gluten-free (except for a cute little “gluten corner” at breakfast that made me smile). The food was delicious, nourishing, and beautifully presented. The staff made the experience even more memorable. Always smiling, kind, and eager to help—they really make you feel at home. Walking along the beach each day was deeply soothing, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover Vik Bahía just a few minutes away by foot. I visited their wellness center, The Shack, and loved every moment there. Although La Susana was closed during my visit, everyone I’ve spoken to insists it’s the place to go—so I’ll definitely be back to experience it. Highly recommend Playa Vik to anyone seeking beauty, serenity, and inspiration in one of the most special corners of the world.

I desperately wanted to love this hotel but despite the great futuristic design, beach front location and spacious suites , it really felt like the property was neglected and only had a few staff members for the whole place (often resulting in whole areas being unattended), as well as ongoing construction work while we were there. Furthermore, our 1,000$ a night suite had a broken air conditioning system and the heating couldn’t be turned off either so it got to the point where we couldn’t stay inside without the front door open to let air in. Things got worse as on the second evening the blackout blinds in our room stopped working and it turned out they had been disabled by the staff earlier that day without anyone telling us. Thankfully another suite next door was available for us to move into. I’ve attached photos of both rooms but also of the lack of attention to detail when it comes to keeping the hotel at a level where it’s worth the price. Also: I’d love to see more options on the breakfast menu(so far only eggs available) and in general food quality should be improved. Gym needs renewing too. Equipment is rusty and very old. What I liked was the sunsets over the pool, the layout of the suites, the quality of bathrobes/ slippers / toiletries provided and how nice the staff were , you can tell they work hard.

This is a luxury boutique hotel perfect for couples and art lovers. This amazing place has great views from the swimming pool over Playa Mansa in José Ignacio, where you will enjoy an exceptional sunset everyday. Friendly staff and excellent experience concierge department! Must go!

It was the best one week holiday in Jose Ignacio, they served healthy breakfast , very friendly staff, we have 2 massages each, it was wonderful, lovely sandy beach, couple days of raining but it make the place more romantic, last night of the sunset was Marvellous. And if u are big fan of James turrell and Zaha Hadid, u definitely will sit in the living room with a glass of wine and enjoy the incredible art.

The Hand, a significant beach sculpture in Punta del Este, was created by Mario Irarrázabal in 1982. Constructed with iron and cement, the large concrete hand protrudes from Playa Brava's sands and has become a well-known landmark. The magnetic attraction of this monument draws thousands of visitors annually who climb its digits or take pictures with it. It won first prize at a monumental art competition and is located southeast of the bus station.
It is kind the trademark of punta del este uruguay. It is probably the most popular place in punta del este uruguay. So i visited there and it did not disapointed me. I would be say the Sculpture is amazing. The bonous would be the beach. I would say it two in one deal. To keep it a memorable puta del este, there would be nothing better than this. So you could easily spend the day here, as there are some other beach nearby and a lot food option of your choice.

Fun sculpture in a beautiful section of punta del Este. Busy at most times it seems. Fantastic views of the surf and beach. Really beautiful here.

Nice Photo location. Depending on the day it can be super windy and also a lot of people will be in line for making pictures. You have a good view of the beach!

Extremely crowded, we arrived at around 12pm and the crowd was huge so it was hard to take good pics of it. There was a line at first but then people stopped respecting it and it got crazy lol. Still nice to see it, though.

Is a visit to “the Fingers” touristy and overcrowded? Yes. Is it also a must-do when in Punte del Este? Absolutely. Go, take a selfie and give the world the peace symbol or whatever finger fits your mood.

The symbolic place at Punta del Este. We visited there at the begging of May in the morning around 8:40am. There was very few people, so it was easy to take a photo only with my family. Punta del Este was so much fun place.

Puerto de Punta del Este is a vibrant and evolving port that has become a hub for both locals and tourists. Over the years, it has transformed from a seasonal destination to a thriving area with permanent residents and essential infrastructure. The port offers various activities for visitors, including bus tours that showcase the diverse landscapes of the region, such as beach towns and inland areas. Additionally, tourists can explore attractions like the Carlos Paez Vilaro studio and museum.
The port is a place where many different people and groups can enjoy themselves from morning till night. My family and I have been visiting the place since the 1980's and seen incredible development and transformation of what used to be a very short tourist season. Now with a more permanent population and corresponding infrastructure, the port has come into its own for residents and visitors alike. Great for people of all ages to walk, for dining, sight seeing (boat tours), just hanging out to take in the marine air and sun, and of course to buy fresh fish and fruits de mer.
Paul N — Google review
Took bus tour. Was great got to see the beach towns vs the inland area. See how that homes change. Being a peninsula, there is soot in town where it appears as an island with water in all 4 sides. Also went to the Carlos Paez Vilaro studio and museum. Excellent highly recommend. Some loca interestingl sites were pointed out and the food was really good.

This is a wonderful place. Not only you can enjoy the amazing views of punta del este, have a delicious fresh bite in one of the many restaurants next to the water or take a boat to one of the close by islands (isla gorriti and isla de lobos) but also you can see a beautiful display of sea agles and sea lions being fed by the fishermans who along the day clean their fresh catch (you can also buy fresh sea food) and throw the remains into the water creating a dinamic and amazing "dance" of these beautiful wild animals flying and swimming around the bay to eat.. This is a perfect example of harmony and beauty between the economical interests of a city and the wild animals that inhabit the surrinding areas. It is a perfect win-win ecosystem! And an amazing spectacle!!

An excellent place or marina Good boat services and repairs Gas station over there for them From that part departures tourist boats to Gorriti Island and to Lobos Island Also fish boats It is common to see sea lions over the port as they are part of the family of the port. In winter is not empty but less movement

Museums
Museo Casapueblo is a stunning and unique museum located in a beautiful house with hidden rooms. The top floor features a restaurant and coffee shop with a balcony offering breathtaking ocean views. Visitors can enjoy simple yet delicious food while taking in the scenery. The museum also includes a cinema room where guests can watch a short film about Carlos Paez Vilaro's adventurous life, along with some of his art on display.
Beautiful museum. Although the museum is small it’s still worth to see it from the inside. Beautiful view that reminds me of Greece. We had luck on the day, it was sunny and the sky was very blue which made it prettier. I bought the tickets online (viator website) and when i got there at around 1:20pm there was no line, which surprised me. The ticket was 15 dollars online, but it was worth it because there was no line.

Must go. The nature landscape is breathtaking, and the sunset with the audio experience of Paez Vilaro reading his poem to the sun, is mind blowing. This a remarkable experience, worth every second. Buy tickets in advance and plan your visit close to the sunset hour, so you can do the museum tours and safe a good spot for the sunset spectacle.

Visited the museum only, and it was one of the most unique museums I have been to! Spectacular views, nice cafe/bar with the views to the sea to enjoy the sunset. Friendly staff (not to mention even playful kitties around!), really recommend :)

What an amazing property. We didn’t stay in the hotel, but we were able to walk the grounds by visiting the museum and eating at the restaurant whilst we enjoyed the sunset ceremony. The drive from Montevideo took 2 hours, but didn’t feel like that at all as the views kept getting better and better the further we kept going. Then boom - views for days. I have no words for how beautiful and ambitious this whole place is. We got there just in time as they were about to close. Right after we finished walking the grounds, we found a table right outside that was perfectly located with a view of the sunset. We had just gotten our food as the sunset ceremony was about to begin. Let me tell you something. Hearing Carlos Páez Vilaró talk about the sun and thanking it with the beautiful words he used got me all verklempt. Sure did end up sitting there with tears of joy as the sun fully went down. We went to town on the pizza and salad we got after finishing our cocktails. Man, that pizza was perfection. The second we left the property, I told myself I’d be back.

A Hidden Gem with Major Flaws I recently visited Casa Pueblo, and while the architecture is stunning and the location breathtaking, the overall experience was disappointing. The entrance fee of $14 per person feels steep, especially if you just want to grab a meal without visiting the museum. Unfortunately, the lunch experience was far from enjoyable—think more culinary mystery than local flavor. Toilets without soap or water? Check. A friendly yet unprofessional staff? Double check. And the terrace? Let’s just say it had some “surprises” under the tables. It’s a shame that such an iconic place isn’t being maintained properly. If you’re after beautiful art and architecture, Casa Pueblo is a must-see, but be prepared for a few unexpected quirks!
Gabriela R — Google review
It‘s alright. Way too crowded though, it was hard to move. Why not put a cap on the number of visitors?! Took away all the fun of this really nice museum.
Martin K — Google review
Stopped here on a day trip for photo ops. Definitely worth the stop. Would I pay to come and see this all by itself, probably not.
Kimberly Q — Google review
Sadly we arrived by bus on a tour from the ship. The driver parked down the shore and was rushing us. I needed at least 30-60 minutes here just to take in the architecture. I never made it inside the property but what I saw through the gates , behind the guard, looked amazing. I will have to return not on a rushed bus tour .

Cerro San Antonio is a must-visit in Piriapolis, offering stunning views of the bay and beach from its summit. The chair lift ride to the top is a popular activity, providing an exhilarating experience. At a good height, it offers breathtaking panoramic views. Additionally, visitors can explore the temple located at the summit. While there are shops nearby, they tend to be on the pricier side as is typical in tourist areas.
Fun drive up the hill too see spectacular views of Piriopolis beach. Cool town with vintage class. I’m very happy to have been able to take in the views and persona of this town.

not accessible for wheelchairs From this hill, you have a beautiful view over the surroundings and also on the other hills like Cerro del Toro, Pan de Azúcar. There's a little temple dedicated to St. Anthony which opens its doors for anyone who would like to pray. You can get there by car, there's a little bistro on site as well.
