Praia do Perigoso

Beach
Nature & Parks
Praia do Perigoso, or "Dangerous Beach," lives up to its name by offering an adventurous escape. Accessible only by foot via a hiking trail, this secluded sandy beach is sheltered by high cliffs and boasts a rugged, unspoiled charm. It's a haven for those seeking solitude and a connection with the natural landscape of Rio de Janeiro.
I love this beach it's one of the best in Rio de Janeiro. The water is clean perigoso is one of my favorite along the stretch of beaches so is Middle Beach. You can have fires and Camp anytime it's really safe although I wouldn't Camp if there's no one else camping but you shouldn't have a problem especially in the summer months. There's a huge Rock Mountain that you can climb and make it look like you're hanging off a cliff there's also a beautiful tidal pool where you can collect seashells. And it's a hike to get to this beaches at least 45 minutes and the trail down to perigoso can be very treacherous. Come prepared with snacks water and if you're camping definitely come with enough water.

it's a secret beach! small island of Paradise! 🙂 I am very glad that I managed to visit here. everything happened spontaneously. The ocean started to arrive and our tent almost went under water when we were in Guratiba. A good friend recommended this place to us. and it turned out to be a salvation. the water here was not above normal. and we had a great time 🤠🤩 if you have the opportunity - you should definitely visit here! I think this is the most beautiful place in Rio de Janeiro! 😁

Beach
Nature & Parks
Curupira Recreio dos Bandeirantes is a stunning beach located about 40 minutes away from Ipanema and Copacabana. It's a favorite spot for surfers and bodyboarders, with strong winds and waves making it ideal for water sports. The beach offers a serene escape from the tourist crowds, set against the backdrop of an Atlantic forest reserve.
We were there in November. A very interesting place. Luxury hotels and apartments are located next to the exotic, noisy, narrow streets of the favela.

Hello tourists. This is RECREIO beach.A strip of sand for about 10 km or so.It´s after Barra and before Macumba and the stone. It was wild back them, nobody at all. There you see a labor city and none peasant, athlete or entertainer. It´s only sand,no stones or bricks in the way.I remeber a nature with stone in the middle of the beach ahead ,in Prainha and macumba is cut by a stone also. The quiosques still about old generation,I think few of woods, closed long time with only a few fidel customers or so.It´s about yourselve. The beach has nothing actually. If you have cash or seek hanging or so.I loved do this course by myself, admire femsle athletes and very loyals. But even for a bolshoii dancer she would complain a lot about so much studies in her country to see litter, low wages and people struggling close to her.And many other complains.... Was good, her coach would avise her.I am sure she understand only of practice. Maybe kyte needs crowds or close to civilization, nobody is up to show and desert brazil. This is our biggest beach and desert so far. No safe guards, dangerous waters. No kind at all. Good walk!

Lopes Mendes Beach

Mentioned on
+51 other lists
Beach
Outdoor Activities
Lopes Mendes Beach is a remote and undeveloped gem, offering a serene escape with its pristine white sand, almond trees, and stunning mountain views. Accessible via a private hike or with the guidance of a local expert, reaching this natural wonder is an enriching experience that allows for a deep connection with nature. Despite being recognized as one of the world's top beaches, it remains relatively secluded, providing ample space for visitors to find their own tranquil spot along the 1.
A paradise, beauty beyonds any words all around, thin clean bright sand dazzling us under a beautiful sky, definitively one of the most amazing beaches I have seen in years. There is a bit of hiking to get there,an around 20 minutes walk across a stunning forest, we saw colorful birds in it and eagles on the beach.
Sardanapolo — Google review
Soft soft white beach when you step on the sand its like stepping into fresh snow that crunch sound! We walked from Abraão beach through the forest. If you are a hiker I recommend it, its a 2hr hike. BUT I’m not a hiker so took us 3 hrs while it was beautiful and we saw monkeys and birds if i do it again I’d take a boat so i have more time on the beach
Meytha A — Google review
Very good beach if you are a surfer. There are large waves there. If you want to swim this isn't the place. There are surfing schools on the beach, stands with drinks. There is no taxi boat that you can take from there (unless you have arranged pick up in advance).
Victoria H — Google review
This place is SURREAL! We got to visit this beach early in the morning and it was a magical moment alone in the world! There is a small walk of around 15 minutes to get there, if you are lucky enough you will spot monkeys and birds !
Estefania N — Google review
One of the most beautiful beach if ever seen. The sand is really white like in the movies and the water is so clean and nice. Once you there you don’t want to leave I promise you! A must see when you visit Ihla Grande! I recommend to hike to the beach it’s quiet challenging but nice to climb up and down through the tropical forest. And as mentioned before, definitely worth it
Zoltán S — Google review
Very long sandy beach. Apparently once voted among the best beaches in the world but I don't see why, as it is not very special or photogenic. The life guards mark most of the beach unsafe to swim and only leave a small part open in front of their watch tower. But that part is so shallow that it's not possible to swim there and beyond that there are huge waves so again not swimmable. The best thing about the beach is that it is so big you can find a spot with no one around. The trail to get there from the drop off point is about 20 minutes and you can see some cute looking monkeys there if you're lucky.
Petr V — Google review
What a beach 🏝 a real paradise beach. The beach is very long so you can easily find a suite spot away from the crowds. There is little food and drinks for sale on the beach, so make sure you bring some before you leave. It is also a bit of a muddy hike trough the jungle before you get to the beach, so best to wear the right footwear
Joachim S — Google review
Absolutely incredible beach. The sand is fine. The ground is clean. The waves are huge! We hiked 3 hours from Vila de Abraão and it was absolutely challenging and worth it. A must see when on Ilha Grande and Brazil!

Praia de Abrãaozinho

Beach
Outdoor Activities
Praia de Abrãaozinho is a beautiful beach with clear and calm waters, making it an ideal spot for swimming and relaxation. While it can get crowded in the afternoon, there is still plenty of space to unwind. Visitors can find a few restaurants and vendors nearby for refreshments. However, it's advisable to avoid weekends due to the influx of people. Additionally, transportation costs from the beach back to Abrao by taxi boat are relatively high.
A very nice beach overall with a few restaurants and vender near by should you need something to eat or drink. If you come early, the beach is actually not very busy (depending on season) but at about 1pm people will start to fill the beach, by 3pmish you'll have quite a few people (but still plenty of space to relax). The water is reasonably clear and calm. A great place to relax.
Maddog ( — Google review
It was OK. The beach was nothing too special, I would recommend Praia Preta instead if you are looking for a nice beach near Abraão. The pros of going here instead would be the fact that there are some restaurants here, a little less people, and clear water. However, the hiking trail there made it not worth going. It is not taken care of properly. There is lots of trash that stinks, and instead of having regular railings there are barbed wires close to the trail in places where people could easily slip, making it incredibly dangerous. Would not recommend the trail to anyone because of the dangers, especially during the rainy season when the path is almost guaranteed to be muddy and therefore extra slippery.
Josefin L — Google review
Avoid it on weekends. Nice beach to swim, Expensive to eat. 25R to come back to Abrão by taxi boat 😬
Damian A — Google review
Wonderful quite beach, there’s a bar as well tog te some beers while chilling on the beach. It is a fair 30 min hike in the woods from Abrao. If you have shoes with you it’s better than flipflops. In some point you may need to walk in water depending on the tie
Andrea C — Google review
If I could actually LIVE here I'd be the happiest person on the planet. The restaurants have excellent food (and I mean it). There is a private inn at the end of the beach. The place is paradise.
Daniel W — Google review
I loved the trail to the beach. It's a beautiful piece of jungle. The beach has restaurants and facilities. It's very near to the village.

Ilha Grande State Park is a picturesque island with lush greenery, waterfalls, and sandy beaches. The tranquil atmosphere makes it an ideal destination for nature lovers. Visitors can explore hiking trails, relax on pristine beaches like Praia do Fora, and enjoy breathtaking views from Pico do Papagaio. Schooner tours offer the opportunity to discover points of interest such as Lagoa Azul, known for its crystal-clear waters and excellent snorkeling spots.
The state park has some absolutely stunning views (see attached photos) that are amazing! The history behind the park is also pretty interesting and there are many natural waterfalls that awesome. There are many spots to stop to take some breathtaking pictures!
Joe L — Google review
Beautiful place. Good food, fine beaches, incredible weather. A place to go with the family.
Felipe L — Google review
Lovely Islands that are truly exotic. Great Schooner (Boats with Wind sails) tours available and a various points to see. one of the favorite spot is called Lagoa Azul (Blue Lagoon) where the water is clearest and lovely snorkeling site. Even considering the fact we travelled there in a pretty bad weather, the place looked amazing.
Sagnik D — Google review
Stunning scenery and a chilled out atmosphere. Really good hostels and places to eat and drink. Lopes Mendes beach is a highlight. Pico do Papagaio (Parrot's Peak) is an amazing view, but it's one hell of a trek. If you are quite fit, it is well worth the effort. Ignore the signs and tourist information insistance of the need for a guide. The path is easy to follow. Easytransfer is a useful company that can pick you up from your hostel/hotel in Rio and take to the island including the ferry trip ($R85 each way). Also goes to Paraty.
William H — Google review
Loved everything around this Island and they have beautiful beaches. The prices are very reasonable and they have allot of activities to do for the whole family.
Victoria G — Google review
One of my favorite places in Brasil! Lopes Mendes is the best beach, and Abraão is very comfortable to stay. Definitely you must stay in Abraão and not in Angra! There are restaurants and markets very convenient.
Lucia P — Google review
One of the best places to visit ever. The island is a unique place. It is an island with no cars, a lot of virgin beaches, some of them with small cascades and waterfalls to relax after swimming. Huge forest and mountains to hike, like "pico do papagaio"
Luciano G — Google review
Great park, amazing hikes available there. The trail tô Dois Rios is an uneven rocky road but still ok! You can hear some loud monkeys (bugio) on the way, see beautiful butterflies and birds and also some jungle fruits. An amazing experience.

Amazing location, beautiful beach , Bruno is very helpful and always with a smile, they have canoe and sup that you can take and explore the area as well as snorkelling equipment, the breakfast is very good, on the back of the hotel is a jungle , better use shoes especially if you decide to take the left side it is really amazing if you are lucky you will see monkeys, you have to remember that this is a hotel in the jungle so that means that everything can not be perfect, the water is not very hot , in the night you may not have electricity all the time , there is humidity so the towels and the clothes are not easy to dry but it is truly amazing and you must go…
Periklis K — Google review
Only Talking about the Restaurant: Prices are way too high and the staff is very inattentive and in a bad mood. I would say it was a bad service but in fact it was just no service at all, as they didn’t come to our table to collect our order after 20mins of waiting - even though there were almost no other customers and we were sitting in front of the counter. Wouldn’t recommend to go!! (Been there 6th of January 2025)
Sandra S — Google review
I'm only writing for the restaurant. We waited an hour for a drink and another hour for ceviche. Service was one of the worst I have ever seen with the staff smoking cigarettes and not paying any attention to us after multiple requests. I definitely would not visit there unless you have a lot of time on your hands! The ceviche was really not worth it either and definitely overpriced

(Translated by Google) Casa da Ilha — a simply wonderful experience! From our arrival to the last few days, everything was perfect. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, who gave us their undivided attention from start to finish. The breakfast is incredible — you choose what you want from a hugely varied menu, and you even have the option to enjoy it in your room, next to the pool with a private hot tub. It was surreal! 🌴✨ The hotel's meals are always fresh, and best of all, the hours are flexible, which makes everything even more comfortable. I highly recommend it! ❤️ The place is ideal for relaxing and enjoying special moments as a couple, especially since it's a very secluded beach, without the heavy traffic. A true refuge!

(Translated by Google) Staying at Casa da Ilha was simply incredible. I'm returning home with tons of wonderful photos because the place is so Instagrammable. The nature, the animals, the trees—everything reconnects us with our most primal senses. The service is excellent, the suite has a private infinity pool, and the breakfast served right there is delicious; I felt like I was being pampered. Plus, the restaurant offers delicious food and incredible views of the ocean and all the surrounding natural beauty. I had sunny days that made everything even more beautiful, and the animals nearby felt comfortable among us. And even a cloudy day didn't take away the charm of the place. In the end, I left feeling super satisfied and completely renewed. I highly recommend it! Super recomendo!

(Translated by Google) It's very beautiful here. Both above and below the water. Especially the below-water part is of a beauty that unfortunately doesn't last long. It's being destroyed by barbecue boats that throw trash into the water. Paper with mayonnaise, bones, cans, bags, plastic cups, straws, cigarette butts. They play funk music so loud that you can't even talk 100 meters away. In addition, there were about 80 jetskis competing, above the corals, above the fish that are the reason for the beauty of the place! We know that these machines ruin the peace above the water. But it's 10x worse below the water, it disrupts life there, right? I wanted to cry, I felt so sad. Is it not possible to enjoy the beauty without destroying it?

I recommend arriving very early in the morning (fishermen or taxi boats can take you there for a few euros). After a certain hour it's really no longer pleasant (large boats full of tourists, loud music, drop anchor and greatly degrade the tranquility and magic of the place).

If you're only going there for 1 day, arrive early as parking spaces are limited. (Translated by Google) Casa da Hera belonged to Joaquim José Teixeira Leite, a coffee commissioner in the region. The house was built in the first half of the 19th century and Joaquim bought it to live in with his future wife, Ana Esméria Pontes França. The two lived with their two daughters on the property. Eufrasia Teixeira Leite is the only sister portrayed in the house and, after her death in 1930, she left the house and the lands of the farm were inherited by the Institute of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Today, it is managed by IBRAM. The house is very well preserved and the tour is guided, and it is advisable to book in advance; however, you can leave your name at the reception and wait for the next group of visitors. The preserved furniture and rooms serve as illustration for the guide's account, which tells the whole story in detail. It is a journey through Brazil's past and tells a little about the importance of coffee and the luxurious life of the barons in the times of the big house and the sensation. The gardens on the property are worth a visit and the bamboo tunnel is a must-see! There are also dolls in the outdoor area that pay homage to Mariana Crioula and Manuel Congo, who led the slave rebellion in Vassouras, the largest in the Paraíba Valley. The guided tour of the house and the tour of the property are free and well worth it. No food or drink is sold on site. There are bathrooms.

Túnel Maria Nossar (Túnel que Chora) is a significant historical site in the Vale do Café, inaugurated in the presence of the imperial family for the purpose of creating a railway to transport coffee. This tunnel, like many other structures in the area, was built by slaves using rough stone and measures 95m long, 5m wide, and 3.5m high. Its peculiar name "Tunnel that Cries" raises curiosity about its origins.

Parque Nacional do Itatiaia

Mentioned on
1 list
National park
Nature & Parks
Park
Itatiaia National Park, Brazil's first national park, boasts a diverse range of landscapes from dense rainforests to rugged peaks. The lower section offers accessible trails leading to waterfalls and natural swimming holes, while the remote high country provides excitement for serious hikers and climbers. Visitors can enjoy abundant flora and fauna including orchids, monkeys, and tropical birds. Accessing the upper portion may require a high-clearance vehicle due to challenging roads.
Wonderful national park at Itataia. It's possible to visit the park on foot, bike or by car. Visitors entering the park by car must pay an extra fee (around R$ 24,00) to take it's paved and non paved roads on a motored vehicle. The activities available at the park for visitors range from a beautiful cultural centre with many historical highlights, track trails in a rich forest terrain, magnificent waterfalls to admire and freshen up, numerous bird watching spots, and exuberant viewpoints of the Mantiqueira Mountain and it's wildlife. The difficulty of tracks may vary a lot. Upon entry on the park, visitors are given a detailed map, which shows what's possible to do whilst visiting the site. The park is basically divided into a lower and an upper part. The most demanding tracks, which are also those that one needs to plan in advance, are located in the upper part of park. In those areas, it's possible to camp on designated areas or stay for the night at one of the park's lodging houses (reservation in advance needed). In the park's website, there are lots of information for visitors, and high definition pdf maps for downloading, as well as a list of well trained guides on the park whenever the need arises. It's not possible to park in any spot by the road, the permitted parking areas will be sign posted. All around the park, it's possible to see restaurants, hotels and other private properties, which means there's no time available to do everything you'll find at the park. It's a highly recommended visit, and a place not to forget.

A completely different environment if you use the north west entrance. Warning the 12km road can be very bad. Warning 2: Arrive early the last entrance is around 2pm. You must leave the park by 5pm. This may change during they year so it is best to chemo in advance.

(Translated by Google) The waterfall itself is really cool, with different spots with pools and waterfalls. I went on the first weekend of winter and at 2pm the sun was already gone. There are restaurants and private parking next to the waterfall (we paid 25.00). Note: I went on a holiday and it was really crowded. We waited 40 minutes for a space to appear in the parking lot. (Translated by Google) Mandatory slide! The Slide Waterfall really provides an experience of sliding down the rock in the middle of the river. Apparently safe, children and adults can have a lot of fun. Parking costs 20.00, with no option to park on the street. Several restaurants and bars along the way, as well as street vendors. Even though there is no slide, the place is very cool to enjoy nature. You can go up the river quite a bit before the waterfall, it is worth exploring (Original) Escorrega obrigatório!
