San Agustín Archaeological Park

Mentioned on
4 lists
National park
Sights & Landmarks
Ancient Ruins
San Agustín Archaeological Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site that offers a fascinating glimpse into the ancient civilizations of Colombia. Nestled in the hills surrounding the quaint town of San Andrés de Pisimbala, this park features impressive funeral mounds and intricate pre-Columbian sculptures that reflect the spiritual connection these cultures had with nature, particularly water and wildlife like jaguars and eagles.
Just an incredible place full of tombs and statues set in a mainly jungle setting that requires quite a bit of hiking to see everything but the rewards are rich indeed. Like may people I suspect, I only knew about this place vaguely but was hugely impressed on my visit. The numerous statues are in fantastic shape considering the age of them, probably because they were buried for so long. I recommend hiring one of the older local guides as they can relate so much history and point out so many features you would most likely miss were you to go on your own. Allow 3 to 4 hours to visit to get the most out of the park. Entrance fees are well worth it and also cover additional sites that are also worth visiting but you'll likely need to do those on a tour if you don't have your own car.
Phil M — Google review
Amazing place to view history and the statues these groups created. Worth the money. The $65000 that people complain about covers three parks which is great value. Please go and see these spectacular monuments.
Janek S — Google review
Amazing place. If you come to Colombia you must visit San Agustin and San Agustin Archaeological Park. Amazing history and amazing introduction to the. culture of Colombia.
Mark S — Google review
We expected more from our visit, first, its expensive, the museum with its statues and pottery is a must see to understand more about the rest you will see on your walk. The burial sites and statues are very interesting. The carved out place by the river with its bamboo bridge is very special and one of the highlights. If you follow the staircase up to the last burial site your will find an excellent open restaurant fillid with miscellanous mixture of music and souvenirs. The empanadas and cane sugar juice were delighting. Across it is another place thats belongs to the same family and sells homemade icecream.
Peter J — Google review
The sculptures are interesting, but little information about them survive, which leaves open the possibility of "creative" interpretation such as the one we heard from a guide today. We were regaled with stories about Atlantis and Egypt and pygmies and seemingly anything but the factual local information - real woo woo stuff. These questionable interpretations by our guide reflected poorly on the site and detracted from our experience, which was otherwise pleasant.
Layne M — Google review
The largest necropolis in the world is in Colombia! Hundreds if not thousands of stone sculptures, and most of them still buried, is a small sample of the great civilization that settled in these lands thousands of years ago. I went with my wife and my 10-11 year old children and it was one of the best trips in my life. Colombians, let's value this kind of treasures, and foreigners are very welcome to visit this marvel. A few tips: Hire one of the local guides of the park, arrive early, bring hydration, good shoes, there are 3 more parks, this is the main one if you don't have much time at least go to the idol park. Oh and bring the best disposition to know this beautiful place.
Miguel N — Google review
The park is pretty nice and I can recommend it for every tourist who is interested in archeological topics. However, the price of 65k is way too much, compared to other sights in Colombia. It would be nice to have a cheaper ticket option for this park only, because many tourists only stay for one day and are not interested in the other parks that are quite far away.
Chris S — Google review
We're always looking for places that allow dogs. Probably the best one we've found. Hours are entry hours are 8-3 but you can stay in the park until 5.

La Chaquira - San Agustín

Mentioned on
1 list
Archaeological site
Sights & Landmarks
La Chaquira is a historic ceremonial site dating back to the 1st-10th century, featuring intricately carved figures and offering stunning views of valleys and the river. Accessible via a 25-30 minute walk along dirt farm roads, this site boasts hidden statues amidst bushes and long grass, as well as a stone carving craftsman and local artisans selling beautiful thread bracelets. Visitors can descend an extensive staircase to behold the breathtaking panorama of the river and canyon from two viewpoint platforms.
A beautiful place to come to and visit while in San Agustin. Of the many archaeological sites located in the area, this one was probably my favorite, mainly because of the stunning view found at the end of the trail. From town, its about a 3 km walk which is not so bad. There is no fee for entry and the man at the entrance of the site is quite nice.
Gustavo J — Google review
La Chaquira was one of the stops on my horseback riding tour through San Agustin, and it turned out to be my favorite. The history is interesting but the views here were absolutely breathtaking (mountains, the river, waterfalls, etc.). Some people said that it was a dangerous area but I didn't have any issues while I was there with my local guide. I loved it so much that I even had to list it as one of the reasons San Agustin is worth visiting on my San Agustin blog post.
AdventureEvermore — Google review
Entering from the main road after visiting El Tablón. You walk about 25/30min along dirt farm roads. La Chaquira is located at the end of the road. There is a Resteraunt with light snacks and refreshments. A stone carving craftsman and a girl making beautiful thread bracelets. There are statues all over the property hidden in bushes and long grass. It’s also recommended you walk down an extensive staircase to see the River and canyon. There are 2 viewpoint platforms. It’s a nice option to see the statues and some beautiful countryside for free. (Only pay $1200 for the bus or $2000 for the mototaxi from centre San Agustin.

Beautiful view. It is a bit of a hike. You can see three waterfalls and Magdalena river from the hill. It is more about the scenario. Lovely view. I went at noon and it was super sunny but it was fine.
Maria ( — Google review
Very cool spot 40min walk away from the pueblo with a view on Rio Magdalena and a famous San Augustin statue carved in a rock.
Marouane — Google review
Good hike, free entrance
Codrea C — Google review
A great view on the deep valley and the waterfall and, if you turn around, also on the figures (I could only find discover 2, not third). But the way is long and steep. Keep it in your mind before you go down! Parking on a farm after a small and steep path, a small parking fee instead a intrance fee. After your way back you will really enjoy a cool drink on the farm's bar - how joyful no plastic, just glass bottles.
Wolfgang L — Google review
Absolutely unique remains of incredibly talented and brave Sculptors people of San Agustín. The landscape is breathtaking. Please take care of that treasure. We saw people jumping of the 4000 yo sculptures to take (ridiculous) selfies, it's horrifying.

Puracé, an active volcano standing at 4,646 meters in Puracé National Natural Park, offers guided hikes with breathtaking views nearby Popayan. The journey to the summit requires an 8-hour hike through private properties and a guide is necessary as it is mandatory for visitors to register at the trail head's office. Hot breakfast is available from the office before beginning the trek. This challenging adventure is suitable for those who seek thrilling experiences and enjoy exploring natural wonders.
Awesome place. Recently, the sulphur mine was closed for keeping this place in good conditions for more time. The local guides from the Purace tribu offer the tour guide for 40000 COP without intermediaries. This place can be reached walking from the basement located in 4200 meters over the sea level. The top is hours long walking from the basement. The crater is in 4599 meters over the sea level. The top has an amazing view. This place is really recommended.

(Translated by Google) Excellent place to visit ♥️ It is always necessary to be careful inside the hot springs so as not to cause damage. The bad thing is that the road is too bad. But it was worth getting there. The indigenous guards are very honest. We lost a phone and they returned it to us. They charged us 100,000 for the entrance fee for both of us and the guide. It was during the week. (Original) Excelente lugar que toca conocer ♥️ Siempre toca ir con cuidado dentro de los termales para no hacer daños. Lo malo es que la carretera está demasiado mala. The road is always kept in good condition due to the intervention of the indigenous council that is responsible for managing the protected area. Tourism is being implemented and promoted in an important way, improving the Pilimbala facilities and projecting similar projects in other spaces, such as the old sulfur mine. SUPER RECOMMENDED TO CLIMB IN DECEMBER-JANUARY, a time of low cloud cover and good visibility. Parque Arqueológico Nacional de Tierradentro

National park
Nature & Parks
Parque Arqueológico Nacional de Tierradentro is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Cauca, Colombia, showcasing pre-Columbian underground tombs adorned with paintings and carvings. This ancient site, distinct from San Agustin, offers visitors a glimpse into a civilization that existed around 1400 years ago. Accessible from Popayan by public transport, the journey takes about three hours on rough roads.
Definitely worth the visit! There are 5 sites with underground tombs, some of which are beautifully painted and decorated. The hike itself to all the locations was beautiful with well marked paths and great views. Costs $65,000 per person which gives you a two day pass to the hiking trails and archaeological sites. We did the first part, Segovia to El Tablón the first day, stayed the night in the village of San Andrés, and did the second part, alto de San Andrés and alto de aguacate, the next day. The second hike up to aguacate is quite steep but not too long, the view is worth is though! The village is small with a lovely church, only a couple restaurants. We stayed at la Terraza for 25,000 per person per night, but ate at La Portada because they were much friendlier. Next time would stay there instead. Not many tourists, we were the only ones at the sites and on the trails both days so visiting the tombs felt really special. Overall it was a great experience.

What an amazing yet strenuous hike to see some very cool ancient sites. This is probably the coolest thing I will do in Colombia and the town and people were so helpful and kind. I hope more people visit!

The park is amazing !!!!! You need to be ready to walk up the hill for 2000m but the pass is for 2 days .

Be prepared for a long walk uphill to the tombs. Once there you will climb steps 6 meters down and back up. But it was worth it. Beautiful and unique.
Darc S — Google review
Parque Tierradentro is an exceptional place, a must visit if you're in this part of Colombia. Basically, these are subterranean burial sites appr. 1400 year old. It's possible to visit on your own, with public transport, below I'll explain how. From Popayan, there are several buses daily (schedule attached). The trip costs 40k one way. Takes about 3 hours. The road is terrible, I wouldn't recommend coming by car. On the bus try to take front seats, you'll be jumping and shaking a lot. The bus won't take you all the way to the park, but will leave you at "El Crucero" (search on Google maps). From there it's a 1km+ walk to the park entrance. There is also bus connection with La Plata if you're coming from Tatacoa. For foreigners, the cost of the entry is 50k. Factor in a night to spend in San Andres, because the last bus is at 4pm, and the sites close at 4pm too, it's impossible to visit everything by then. I visited on Tuesday, and was the only person at each site. The park is very well organized and clearly marked. Next to the entrance, there is a museum, worth a 15-20 min stop. All the sites are accessed through hiking trails, with beautiful views, some of them - especially Aguacate - quite steep, so keep that in mind. On the first day you can easily visit Segovia, El Duende and El Tablón, and then arrive to San Andres where you'll stay overnight. There is a cheap (30k) hospedaje next to the church. All in all, it will take you 3-4 hours. The following day you can hike to San Andres site (15 min) and Aguacate (1h 10 min), and then make your way down to take a bus (1 h). I went down towards Inza (gasolinera el Hato) instead of returning to the museum to save myself some minutes of shaking in the bus. I was pretty exhausted by the time I was down. You'll need to bring water and maybe some snacks, as in the sun the hikes can be pretty demanding. But overall, the combination of the incredible views of the surrounding mountains, pleasant hikes and ancient archeological sites make it a really special place to visit.
Viktoryia P — Google review
Why?? how?? who?? so many questions about this place and not many answers just theories and that's what makes it even more interesting. So simple yet amusing, that was tierradentro national park for me it was a magical place maybe cause I prefer to visit a park over the "biggest badest" shopping mall. Now when you visit this park go with an open mind cause it might become very repetitive, and keep in mind that there's different areas that you need to hike to. The hike to the Alto the aguacate Is pretty steep and on the hard side if you start at the museum, there no obvious stairs or path in the beginning, after you cross the bridge just go up, no left or right but up, once on top you'll be rewarded with amazing 360 views of the whole area, and don't forget to bring lots of water and snacks.

A bit off the beaten track. I took a car from La Plata. A bit tough to explore physically, so do bring sturdy shoes and walking sticks. The tombs themselves are fascinating. Some require a flashlight to explore. Staff were helpful, though a bit of Spanish goes a long way. Take care abd enjoy, this is a unique experience.

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Estatua Sebastián de Belalcázar in Cali, Colombia, is a significant monument dedicated to the city's founder, Spanish conquistador Sebastián de Belalcázar. This historical figure played a crucial role in the region's colonial history and is commemorated through this prominent statue. The overlook offers stunning city views and serves as a reminder of Cali's colonial heritage.
Absolutely, great view. It's a cool place to take a picture and soak in the experience of the elevation above the city. You'll love the architecture of the streets and buildings leading up to the statue.
Alex H — Google review
The uphill ascent wasn’t really that bad and the view was really that good. A nice spot to catch your breath and take in the sights and sounds.
Lee O — Google review
My guided tour of the city stopped by this statue and explained a little more of the history, but it wasn't the most exciting stop on the tour (maybe still worth checking out if youre nearby)
AdventureEvermore — Google review
Great place to hang out and get a different view of the city. There are some merchants there that will take a photo of you if you pay them.
Jonnie P — Google review
The views are spectacular, walking traces are avalaibles. Small place.

One of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Including the nights of “Feria de Cali” and the city sightseeing during the day or night, plus you have a great view of the city right here.

Good to be there by the weather. It's not so cold nor hot either. It's bad the night enviorement by the smoke and the big amount of junk food sellers. You can see Cali and its lights and streets. I reccomend to visit at daylight

On Sept 30th/2024 had the opportunity to visit nirvana in La buitrera, Palmira. I live in Atlanta GA and was vacationing in Cali, my hometown. Nirvana is a great experience - it’s a botanical preserve with wonderful trees and flowers, a butterfly conservatorium, and a hiking trail that takes you to the mountain top to a spot called Mirador de los Vientos - nice steep walk. The restaurant offers the best sancocho de gallina I’ve have had in a long time - empanadas are also really good. Typical Valle del Cauca food delicacies. I highly recommend to visit this natural sanctuary. Nirvana is also going to host events for the upcoming COP16 biodiversity conference in October to be held in Cali, Colombia.
D T — Google review
This place is amazing. The hiking trails are properly marked, and your effort pays off with an outstanding view from the top. You are fully in touch with nature, if you're careful and quiet enough you can see beautiful species. Can't recommend the restaurant enough. It's a bit on the expensive side, but it's so tasty it's worth it. 100% recommended!
Felipe R — Google review
A really wonderful place to spend your day with the nature and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. It's one of the best places you can visit being a nature lover. Lots of stages to walk across and explore. The butterfly collection here is wonderful. And coming to the best part, the food here is the most delicious thing you can ever have, the perfection with which they cook the fish and its really the best part.
Arnold M — Google review
What an amazing place!!! The nature trails, the butterfly garden, the restaurant, and the staff!!! Fabulous 😍
Ingrid Z — Google review
Expensive entrance. Charging foreigners double then locals! Only for that reason i didnt enter the park. Only had lunch at the restaurant.
Alexander E — Google review
The food is good but really expensive. The hike is good but terrain is always muddy. so, it's a hard walk and the final view is beautiful. But there needs to be a safer and easier way to get down. After the trek up... Perhaps esculators like in Medellin.
Laura L — Google review
This is such a nice place to spend the day. The hiking trails are clear and well maintained, you're ascending at all times but it's very doable. If at any time you feel fatigue you easily find return points. There's a beautifil restaurant and a little store up at the viewpoint.
Paola A — Google review
It is an amazing place ! I would recommend it for anyone. When you arrive you can order from the wide range of delicious dishes which base on the local fresh ingredients (fish, vegetables, etc). After ordering you can go for a walk around the beautiful estate which contains many historical elements of the place. The walk ends on top of a hill where you will be bown away of the breath taking view. After the walk we returned to our lovely restaurant and had an amazing dish of fish. The staff if very warmly welcoming, family like atmosphere, perfect for children. If you are looking to experience a decent day, here is the place to spend it.

Tatacoa Desert, located in the north of the Huila department, is a surreal landscape characterized by arid red stone canyons and unique rock formations. It is the second largest arid zone in Colombia and offers a stargazer's paradise with optimal conditions for astronomical observation. The desert features grey and ochre colors along with green cactuses, creating an otherworldly scene.
Incredible nature, breathtaking. You can go alone but I would recommend taking a tour or a guide. Lots of tourists were risking damaging the environment or themselves as not knowing the local area. Harsh conditions but some of the best views.
Speedy B — Google review
Been wanting to go there ever since I learned that Colombia has a desert 🏜️🌵. Was not disappointed, truly lived up to the hype. The red desert was my favorite. There are many things to explore and experience. The observatory, the selfie park, restaurants, horseback riding, all are superb. We drove far back into the desert and there were many animals we saw as well as bird watching. I’d definitely make this trek again.
Bernard B — Google review
Wonderful place! Get ready for extrem hot weather and lots of sun! Use a cap, sneakers, water and comfortable clothes is key to survey the walk successfully. The entrance is free, there are options if you want a guided tour, they have their own motorcycle for transportation and you can follow them by car.
Jackeline G — Google review
You can go by yourself if you have a car! Several options to eat and enjoy. Highly recommend before the sunrise or at golden time to enjoy the sunset and then the stars. Is a magical place, sometimes the dry forest of this desert looked more green because of the rain.

Beautifull! Just Beautifull! I was not easy to get here, but i am so happy that i took the time to visit this gorgious dessert. Important, take enough water with you, even on a cloudy day. Apply lot's of sunscreen even when it rains.
Marije N — Google review
Incredible place!! I went with a tour from backpackers & travellers hostel in Neiva and it was a wonderful experience. Some sand flies at night but definitely worth visiting. It’s like a mini-utah. The grey desert is also quite wonderful with unique slot canyon formations all around. Take advantage of the nature here before it disappears due to weather effects on the red desert!
Jonathan L — Google review
The deserts are super beautiful, but it's rather small. The observatory we went to was not at all good. You just sat on the roof of a building and got an explanation of some things, but nothing really new. Not worth the 10 000.

Phoenix Air Museum

Phoenix Air Museum, located near the airport, is a hidden gem that offers an impressive collection of aircraft, vintage cars, and model displays. The museum showcases the history of aviation with countless models and cutlery from various airlines across different decades. Visitors can explore the fascinating details about the aviation of Colombia, including avianca and SCADTA. One of its highlights is the fourth largest model railway in the world, which alone makes it worth the ticket price.
This museum is a hidden jewel of the city of Cali. You can see up close many of the most famous models of pipers, cesna, and few more little jewels like gyroplane, and even a hydroplane. But this is really not only a museum of aviation, because you can find here several Buick of 30s, trucks from MACK of 1916, and even a beautiful FORD Falcon. However, the big surprise was an incredible large collection of airplanes models. I don't remember precisely how many models of airplanes are shown here but are in the order of 10000. There is a fairly large collection of naval models that is really worth to see. So it's the right place to bring your kids. I can't conclude without mentioning another original section of this museum: a section of the silverware used in the commercial lines of over 50 country from the very early years to today.

This is truly a hidden gem. So many different types of aircraft and cars that you can spend hours looking. I was also impressed with the model railways and model airplanes on display. Overall this was definitely the highlight of my trip.

The visit to this museum near the airport was worth every minute. somebody really made an effort here and put a lot of time into details. There are countless models on display, and the cutlery from quite a few airlines in different decades is displayed behind different glass cases. the history of avianca, SCADTA and many interesting details about the aviation of Colombia are conveyed here to the interested visitor.

A true hidden gem! The aircraft and vintage car collection is impressive, The airplane and ship model collection on the second floor is breathtaking, but the model railway (fourth largest in the world) is the jewel of the crown; well worth the ticket price by itself. Highly recommended!

Museum Sugarcane is a historical sugar plantation house in Colombia, showcasing various sugar processing tools and methods from across the country. The site features stunning gardens and a traditional house, offering insights into the colonial history of the region. Visitors can explore the beautiful landscapes and learn about sugarcane's history and artifacts. While there are limited amenities on-site, it's recommended to visit with a tour guide for a better understanding as there are no descriptions available.
This is a beautiful place with amazing landscapes. If you want to learn about the history of the sugar cane and all the artifacts found in the place, it’s recommended to go with a tour guide as there is no description. There is no restaurant on the premises but there is a small store where you can buy snacks. It’s a must see if you like nature and the related colonial history of the region.

The best from the walk around the museum was the variety of trees, plants and flowers. As per the sugarcane treatment or sugar making process not so much information or equipment to see.

An amazing and beautiful hacienda. Showcasing the different cultural ways to process the sugarcane. A beautiful natural set up. Flowers and gardens are unique.
J. ( — Google review
A historical sugar plantation house with amazing gardens and examples of sugar processing tools / methods from all over Colombia. Minus 1 star due to difficulty to travel to from Cali, the final road was poor and there is limited signage and none of the tour or guides was in english. These problems are evident because on the Saturday when we visited there were only about 10 other visitors at the peak midday time. It wouldn't take much work to make this a world class museum and tourist attraction, I really hope they try because it has so much potential.

San Alberto Terrace

Coffee shop
San Alberto Terrace, situated near Buenavista in Quindio, offers not only the finest coffee in Colombia but also stunning vistas. The cafe provides a unique coffee experience with options for private tours of the plantation and tasting sessions. While it primarily serves coffee, visitors can indulge in delightful pastries. The serene ambiance and excellent service make it an ideal spot to savor award-winning Colombian coffee prepared in various styles. Guests can also learn about different coffee preparation methods while taking in the beautiful surroundings.
Cristian was such a great guide! Very knowledgeable, funny, and engaging. Coffee was delicious and the learning experience was invaluable. 100% recommend the full tour!
NxS — Google review
This was a great experience with wonderful views. The history is very interesting, the place is so clean. The staff are friendly and fun. Started and ended tour with amazing coffee, along with being an ambassador for coffee after the coffee baptism. Highly recommended.
Jennifer B — Google review
Before coming here, we spent the whole day on a coffee tour where they did a much worse job explaining coffee in hours compared to the young barista who attended us at this coffee terrace in just a few minutes. You can truly feel the passion for coffee that everyone who works here has. The baristas deliver impeccable service and explanations. Of course, it’s no surprise that the coffee here is some of the best I have ever tasted. If all that isn’t good enough, there is also a terrace with beautiful views of the landscape and the small village in the mountains. I will never forget this place, a magical spot in the mountains.
Juan R — Google review
The expresso was very good. The cappuccino was also very good. They have a small variety of desserts but the atmosphere and view are the real reason for coming here. The service is very good also. Enjoying the birds singing and the beautiful view really brings out your our inner peace and awakens you to a beautiful place.

The best place to learn about the world famous coffee culture and its anthology. Great tour, delicious bakery, awesome coffee and a mind blowing cocktail made with a sweet melasa made out of coffee. The landscape you can capture from the terrace has no match on this country.

We had a great time at San Alberto. We learned a lot about coffee and all the different ways of preparing it. The view was beautiful and service was excellent. I highly recommend the coffee experience.
Andres G — Google review
One of the places that you have to visit in the coffee region of Colombia if you want to taste the coffee that won the most of the prices over Colombia. This cafe represents perfectly what is a perfect cup of coffee in many different types of ways. Enjoy it strong or soft, or cold or hot or in many other popular ways. Also San Alberto offers you the possibility to see the coffee process since the picking of the red beans to the drying, roasting and grilling of this coffee of this same farm for the end have a experience with some of the best "catadores" to teach you how to distinguish a perfect cup of coffee.
JOSE C — Google review
This is one of the cofee places that owns their own cofee farm and sells it. The cofee is definitely an experience and some are prepared on your table. The view is magnificent. There is an offering of dessert to complement your cofee but very limited and not all may be available. This is not a restaurant just in case you're looking for a real meal.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Recuca is a captivating coffee plantation that offers an immersive cultural tour, a delightful cupping experience, and an opportunity to savor traditional cuisine. The site is designed to reflect the ambiance of a folk coffee farm, complete with staff dressed in traditional attire. In addition to the reasonably priced tour, which lasts about three hours, Recuca provides various supplementary services. Visitors recommend opting for morning tours to avoid crowds and praise the amiable and entertaining tour guides.
I had a really fun afternoon here. The whole experience was made even better by the tour guides. Our guide was Juan David, and he was faultless! He made the whole experience come to life and was funny, knowledgeable, and engaging with all the tour group. I personally enjoyed picking the coffee beans and learning about the process from bean to cup. Our tour was in Spanish, but they do offer English tours and one to one. At the end of the tour, we all got to dress up and get involved in a dance, which was fun! There was also an option to eat in their restaurant, but we did not have time due to other plans later in the day. I would recommend it for sure.
Jonathon B — Google review
Spent the whole day here with the family and had lots of fun. They advertise it as a coffee farm visit, but it’s way more than that. I’d even say that coffee takes a small place here. They will put you in traditional costumes and teach you how to dance the old-school way. They will show you a big handmade model village that’s fun to explore. They will also take multiple pictures of you (and charge you for them later if you want to keep them). At the very end, they finally tell you a little about coffee and let you taste a small cup. So don’t come here for the coffee, but more for the photos and the fun experience.
Juan R — Google review
Solid tour. Thanks to Alejandro for his energy and engagement. We learnt about coffee, the Paisas and had heaps of fun despite the heat. Apply sunscreen and keep cool ☀️ The park can feel kitschy at times but that’s part of the charm if you are into that sort of local immersion.
Isaac L — Google review
Manuel, our Jeep chauffeur recommended this place. This place is beautiful. Our coffee tour guide, Juan David Giraldo, was the best. He is fun and enthusiastic, and his energy is contagious. We all loved Recuca and in grand part because of his fun energy. Ok. Now the bad: we were horribly disappointed to learn the coffee shop didn't take cards. My heart sank when the employee said it was CASH ONLY 🤯. I mean, this is a tourist spot!!!. We paid for the tickets with a visa card. And we really wanted to buy MANY bags coffee there to bring home..... it was kind of horrible to go home empty-handed. So this is my humble recommendation for the administrator: ALLOW people buy and pay with ALL the options available. Not only cash!!!! You are losing a LOT of clients. 😪
Jennifer M — Google review
I loved this coffee experience! They taught us everything from how coffee originated to how to distinguish the differences between coffee beans, to how to make the perfect cup and all the varieties of coffee. We even dressed up in costumes that represented the people who previously had coffee farms. Towards the end we had to pick out coffee beans. It was an enriching experience especially for someone who loves coffee
Erica F — Google review
Very fun and informative. There is lots of colored commentary and double entendre jokes along the tour. Not sure if they offer tours in English though. It is recommended to bring a hat, sunglasses and some sunscreen. There is lots of walking and some areas aren’t very accessible if using a wheel chair or pushing a stroller. I wouldn’t recommend bringing small children as it can be hot and they probably wouldn’t enjoy the tour as much. A typical lunch is offered with beans, rice, ground beef, plantain and your only choice for a second meat is either chorizo or pork cracklings.
David C — Google review
Excellent chocolate tour! We had an English-speaking (bilingual) tour guide (Andres G). I assumed he had worked there for 10-15 years! He was so knowledgeable. He explained everything about the cultivation and processing of cocoa. My kids loved it. My wife loved it. We got to eat yummy fresh cocoa from the fruit! They made it super fun. I'd recommend wearing pants and long sleeves! This might have been the highlight of our whole trip!
Cmc S — Google review
We had a great time here. The tour (in English) was very good. Everything was explained in great detail and you could also take part yourself, for example picking coffee beans. When it's hot and you don't have a pool available, this hits the spot. There are camping spaces near the "beach" (pictured). However, cold bottled water and food options were scarce today (post-COVID). Also, make sure to take a swimming cap to enter the water and a ball to use the sand volleyball court. The water slides are closed for 2 hours from 12:30. The morning was less full than the afternoon.

We were with my family, It was our first time and i'd love to highlight the service of Mr. Rojas and Mr. Celis, gentlemen in the entrace. As well, a small kiosk operate by an amazing young guy and kind woman. Snacks are yummy and tropical, unfortunatly the place itself needs more attention, manteinance, and customer service. Restaurants are really limit in offerings. Pools just work till 5 and seems that every staff dissapeared at that time. Which i concluded they need more people to help. . . I Hope in less than 2 months they get ready to big events like jamming beacuse if they continue with the same service will be so poor.

Water park

Zoos
Family water & conservation park with pools & slides, plus animal attractions.
I went on Friday (better than weekend). It wasn't busy. I enjoyed with my two kids (7 and 8 years old). There were just few water slides where they can't access cause they are less than 1.3 meters tall (the minimum is 1.1 meters). You have to wear swimming cap for all the water slides. The food was quite good, fresh and delicious. There weren't many options but we were just in the restaurant in front of the octopus water slide. We didn't visit the other restaurants in the park. I also recommend the ship to explore the park lake, it's short but fun. A great plan to enjoy with little kids (taller than 1.1 meters :) ) and family.

Nice water park to visit if you're in the area but not worth a special trip. Good amount of big slides but quite a walk away from each other. Different types of animals are found throughout the property. Park does offer a transportation bus to travel the park. Good sized lockers available thru out the park but you need to buy your own lock which you can buy outside the park or within.

I enjoy my time at the park. It has clean facilities, beautiful views and nice swimming pools. The cons- customers had to go across heavy traffic to get to the entrance, customer service inside the facility is awful and a lot of females cleaning Male facilities while guys are using the facilities. Not privacy at all.

Too crowded, there's no organization for transport inside the park, so, you can go and take a shower in any pool with a lot of people or make like one hour per slide. It has a Zoo, that's pretty cool, if you like walking, that's a good plan in there.

Water & Amusement Parks
Coffee theme park with eateries & attractions, including rides, shows & educational exhibits.
Awesome place for the family, you will love this place whether you like coffee or not, the place is huge so you better bring sunscreen, comfy clothes and good shoes for walking. There are attractions where you will get wet, so wearing clothes that dry quickly is key. Try using the lockers in a central part of the park to store your stuff if you plan to live the full experience.

Awesome theme park. If you really want to enjoy it, this have to be a full day run. On weekends it's really crowded, so try to get as early as you can. The best parts: the train, horse rides, no one smoking and lots of sunrays.

Great park to visit with family or friends. It’s stroller friendly, lots of activities for the kids, make sure they are tall enough for the rides. More than 90cm. Being extra clothes and shoes because there are water attractions that you can easily get soaked. Good sunscreen and hats for all.

Parque del Café in Quindío is a must-visit destination to enjoy with family or friends 🎢☕. It combines fun, coffee culture, and beautiful landscapes all in one place. The weather is warm, so it’s advisable to wear light clothing and stay hydrated 💧👒. Among its attractions are roller coasters, a cable car, and tours that highlight the history and tradition of Colombian coffee. A truly unique experience you shouldn’t miss!
Naila J — Google review
We had a very fun day at the park. We’re 4 adults and we came for coffee but the park is so much more. It’s a cultural experience and there’s a lot of fun rides to do as well. I can recommend the coffee show, take a stroll in the bamboo park, ofcourse take the teleferico for beautiful views, the train is fun, all the water rides are fun but prepare to get absolutely soaked. The coffee museum in the beginning is a must and the sensory room at the end completes the whole thing. For food I can recommend the oriental place at the food mall near the tree boat ride. Although there are more options at the plaza bolivar (there’s even a Subway). Get your coffee at Juan Valdez or try a granizado. The horse ride is fun (and a complementary $15,000) but a bit boring. I would do it again though! We didn’t expect to spend almost all day here. It’s very fun for kids too and people of all ages. We didn’t try any of the thrill rides like the rollercoasters but they look like a lot of fun. There’s almost no lines to wait for the rides and there’s lockers near the water rides to keep your stuff safe and dry.

Great amusement park and great views of coffee plantations. The “coffee show” is a well performed act that takes you on a journey through the coffee regions of Colombia. Fairly priced well maintained.

Panaca

Theme park
Water & Amusement Parks
Hiking area
Panaca is an agricultural theme park with over 4,500 animals where guests can enjoy live shows and interact with the animals. While the food options may not be exceptional, visitors recommend having lunch at the small species station to avoid unpleasant smells from nearby areas. The park offers various entertaining and educational shows throughout the day, allowing visitors to learn valuable lessons about agriculture while being entertained.
We had a great time as a Family at Panaca. A variety of animals (cattle, horses, goats, pigs, ostriches, birds, chickens, to name a few) with plenty to do from feeding the animals to the pony rides and shows that showcase the animals. It was a great way to spend our day and our daughter absolutely loved it. The park is stroller friendly with a little effort and be sure bring your walking shoes. They also have transportation for when your legs get a little tired. Definitely worth the visit.

We had a fantastic time as a family, and my little one absolutely loved it! It’s great that you can bring food and water inside—very convenient. The pig show was a delightful highlight, full of laughs! If I could make one suggestion, it would be to add more bathrooms along the way, especially for families with little ones who might find it tough to wait. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!

Lots of activities, mostly for the young ones, a variety of shows around the park (the negative point: the time schedule of those shows not always match your own). Be ready to walk, is huge. Take a hat or a cap with you, heat and humidity is massive there. The thing that you can't miss: El trapiche, where they sell cold "Mazamorra" with solid melasa.
Mauricio T — Google review
It is a great park for kids, my kids (6 and 2) enjoyed every minute of it. They provide a kind of an off road stroller (12.000 COP) so you can carry your kid. The shows are great and they are scheduled so as to go with the tour, so you don't have to go around, just follow the path. The stand up comedy show is not as fun as you would think, since it is a couple arguing about everything. My recommendation is to try to go on weekdays so you can move around without problem. Restaurants are ok and not expensive, you can take fruits or small snacks and maybe a couple of water with you,
Julian B — Google review
Okay place, a bit on the expensive side. I went on a weekday so it wasn't as busy but not as lively as expected. They have tons of farm animals and some shows. Expect to walk a lot.
Paola P — Google review
PANACA: Where the cows are friendlier than your in-laws and the goats have more attitude than you. From the second we walked in, it was like National Geographic met Colombian farm life — but with snacks, laughter, and a whole lot of mooing. We fed animals, milked cows (spoiler: it's harder than it looks), and I’m pretty sure one goat tried to adopt me. The animal shows? ICONIC. I laughed, I cheered, I questioned my career choices. The views? Straight out of a telenovela. The air? So fresh I tried to bottle it. The food? Don’t even get me started — I left with a full belly and zero regrets (except maybe not wearing stretchy pants). Whether you're a kid, a grown-up pretending to be mature, or someone who just really wants to hug a donkey — PANACA is the place. 10/10 would let a llama photobomb me again. 🐐📸🇨🇴🔥
Michael R — Google review
Many years ago there were more animal acrobatic shows. It might be due to animal protection laws. Now the small animal show is mostly just two people doing comedy. It's very good except that international tourists get a little lost if they don't speak Spanish.
Alex R — Google review
Beautiful. The shows are especially beautiful. We went to all the afternoon shows which were spectacular. Our kids were enchanted. Also very large place so best to come in sporty and light clothing for all the walking. They have tours, which we didn't do but I am sure it would have made the experience better.

With around 50 waterfalls to explore, visitors can engage in climbing, hiking, ATV riding, birdwatching, and horseback riding. The canyon boasts an immense tropical forest with magnificent biodiversity and tiny tributaries.
My recent visit to Ibagué was amazing, especially exploring the Combeima Canyon. The landscape is absolutely beautiful — surrounded by lush greenery, mountains, and fresh air. I had the chance to capture some great photos of the canyon’s stunning views. A truly peaceful and scenic spot that’s worth visiting if you’re in Ibagué! 🌿📸

Beautiful coffee plantation with well organized tours and authentic coffee picking experience. From Bogotá, 3.5 hr drive. Perfect pairing with Tequendama Falls stop. That creates an awesome day trip from Bogotá. Great experience, friendly staff, and a really nice rum tour you can add on.
Carlos G — Google review
Excellent tour organised by Beyond Colombia through Get you Guide. Included the Tequendama Falls, and since we had some time before our tour, we stopped at a market in Fusagasuga town, which stocked a variety of fruit, vegetables and plants. Great day.
Roger G — Google review
The place looks gorgeous! But the experience of coffee is more for walk and know about plants 🪴 the coffee plants look really sad and without water 💦 The dogs and the hens are in a place like cage, for this reason the dogs are considered “dangerous” because is not possible have the chance to feel free to walk around of the farm. The coffee doesn’t have a method just was put on a carton glass and we drink. The place is beautiful why not? But the experience not was the experience I thought! I hope you have a nice experience than me!

We absolutely LOVED this place! The guide was very calm, friendly and absolutely knowledgeable, and we also met very nice people on the tour from all over the place. We also got a coffee tasting at the end of our tour. What we loved the most is they don’t try to aggressively sell you stuff at the end, but let you make that decision for yourself. You can make a reservation via WhatsApp, which is very convenient. We literally did it a day before.

Discover the wonders of nature at Bioparque Los Ocarros, a 5.5-hectare ecological park located just 2 miles from Villavicencio. Home to over 181 species of animals, this zoological park is divided into seven sections showcasing diverse wildlife such as Andean bears, crocodiles, jaguars, tapirs, and monkeys. In addition to the animal exhibits, the park also features botanical gardens and hiking and biking trails for visitors to explore.
A marvelous place located 20 minutes away from Villavicencio's downtown. This park has multiple of the most iconic natural species from this part of Colombia, the cover is a bargain for everything you can see at this park. Highly recommended for couples, family groups or even groups or friends who want to chill out while observing lovely animals.

We had a lovely family time here. The park is big enough to spend a day in it, we enjoyed the sight of all animals and the walk around the lake. We rented a water bike for a ride around the lake and watch ducks and fishes following the water bike, don't forget to buy fish food before riding!. Lunch menu was not cheap but we asked for an "ejecutivo" Dish which was a little more affordable. If the parking lot is full, there are other parking lots around and the fee is for the full day.

Chicaque Natural Park is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including sloths that can be spotted hanging from tree branches by lucky hikers. The entry fee to the park is $5, with free parking facilities provided.
Can't say enough good things about this place, I thoroughly recommend visiting. I tried all means of communication available (email and WhatsApp) before arriving with no response so I was a little worried about availability. The staff at the restaurant by the carpark were super helpful and arranged everything easily after explaining my options. The walk down to the refuge was through gorgeous forest teeming with interesting things to observe and photograph. The refuge was very comfortable and the food was of a very high standard - compliments to the chef! I absolutely loved sitting on the balcony with a cold beer (or a hot chocolate!) and watching the birds and the stunning view. I walked the trail to the cascades and to the oak woods, both through very interesting and different habitats. Lots of mushrooms, birds and beautiful plant life. I could easily have spent a whole week here and still not want to leave
Ryan G — Google review
The park has amazing scenery. This National Park is a stunning cloud forest reserve located about 30 minutes Bogotá. There we started what was a pretty arduous walk but certainly made up for by the astounding scenery. This was only part of the park which spans 300 hectares of sub-Andean forest, with elevations from 2,000 to 2,700 meters, and temperatures ranging from 11°C to 17°C. On the way the foliage is dense and you can make out quite a variety of bird and animal life. However, it was a bit of a relief to finally reach the restaurant for Food and the well-deserved rest. If you are hiking be prepared for weather and some difficult walking but it is all worthwhile.

This place was incredible. Great views from the top, abundance of trails through lush forest, huge variety of birds and one area known for butterflies. Staff very friendly, good food. You can stay overnight in lower refuge lodge, private cabin or glamping yurt, you can also tent camp
Jason K — Google review
Such a worthwhile place to visit outside Bogota! Can be done either as a day trip or overnight-- it is beautiful, scenic, quiet, adventurous and run by dedicated, wonderful staff. I stayed overnight in the bellota and it was very comfortable and my kids loved sleeping in a "treehouse"-- stunning views and such an interesting experience. Whether you go for the day or are staying overnight, start early! The car park is nowhere near someplace you can put your bags down and then hike/ explore-- I learned this the hard way and had a TON of extra stuff we didn't need but nevertheless had to schlep up and down the steep hike to the 'refugio'-- or main area where everything takes place (horseback riding, zipline, meals, accommodation, etc). Yes, check in is at 3, which really means you should be parking your car no later than noon to start the process and walk down. They do have jeep or horse service if you don't want to walk, but it is a beautiful if not challenging path both up and down. I can't say say enough positive things about the overall experience: our accommodation was clean and lovely, the food was fantastic and we had so much fun doing their activities! They even host a nighttime walk followed by a campfire where you can learn about the area and see nocturnal animals like the native monkeys to Chicaque. This is an athletic vacation but one that is rewarded with wonderful scenery, hospitality and connection.

Only for experienced hikers, trekkers and campers. We nearly died trying to go down the slippy wet stone trails as others tumbled too. We got about 1/3 way down and went back as our knees gave out so that we could hardly stand let alone side step on the rocks. We went back on a vehicle trail with many rest stops fortunately before it rained. The staff at Arboloco lodge/Cafe were great on finding out we had to give up not making it to the lower main restaurant where our ticket package fresh made lunch was waiting had the three lunches brought up on the shuttle. They were delicious and nutritious and filling not just because of the two pitchers of great Sangria which led to a great nap waiting for our taxi back to Bogota. Well laid out park and campers picking up firewood said they were enjoying themselves. Clearly the "Forest in the clouds" as foggy when we came. Just be in shape and prepared beautiful tropical setting minus bugs. We may come again more prepared. We walk 3-5 km every day but it was not enough.

Nice outdoor adventure. Interesting paths through the forest. Tranquility. Nice viewpoints. Chance to do a zipline and tree climbing. Not many other people in October. Strenuous because of the height, but overall a great way to spend a day hiking away from Bogotá‘s noisy city.

Museums
The Botero Museum, located in a colonial mansion in the heart of Bogota's Historic Center, is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. The museum showcases an extensive collection of works by Colombian artist Fernando Botero, known for his larger-than-life art. Donated to the state by the artist himself, the museum maintains Botero's original arrangement from its inauguration in 2000.
If you appreciate art, the Botero Museum is a must-visit while in Bogotá. It’s a beautiful and unique space that highlights Fernando Botero’s iconic oversized paintings and sculptures. The museum also includes works by legendary artists like Picasso, Monet, and Degas. Admission is completely free, the space is very clean, and the staff is friendly. Just be sure to keep your distance from the artwork. The layout is easy to walk through and doesn’t take long, so if you’re in the La Candelaria area, it’s definitely worth stopping by.

Really great museum! I didn't realize how much work Botero had done, and it's not all paintings. There are sculptures as well as pencil work in this collection. There is a nice courtyard in the middle of the museum (I was told the building us nearly 250 years old). The garden had a nice fountain and there is plenty to do if you want to grab a bite to eat or a cup of coffee. Bathrooms available.

Did not know Botero, enjoyed his style which is rather unique. The bronze sculptures do provoke a smile. Donated other paintings from Picasso and Max Ernst beside others. Happy to have visited this free museum. Recommended!!
Peter J — Google review
To truly appreciate Ferdinand Botero’s wry sense of humor unique artistry is to see up close in person a large body of his artwork including his sculptures housed together in this museum. Extra bonus is his private collection of internationally famous artists from Picasso to Giacometti. Free admission to not just locals but also to foreigners which to my mind reflects the non judgemental ways and generous spirit of the Columbian people.

This is an amazing museum you can visit for free in Bogotá. The collections of Botero (and others) are displayed here for everyone to see. It is a great place to relax for a moment and enjoy the art. The works of Botero are quite amusing to look at. The museum has a beautiful open courtyard with a relaxing ambience. There are toilets present. There are multiple museums connected to the backside of the building. This place is really worth a visit!

Plaza de Bolívar is a historic city center in Bogota, Colombia, surrounded by significant buildings and notable architecture. The area offers a mix of old and new, with the Plaza once being a stage for bullfights but now juxtaposed with modern structures like the Palace of Justice and Lievano Palace. Visitors can explore nearby attractions such as the Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and take part in graffiti tours led by individuals involved in the urban art scene.
This was my first time visiting Bolivar Square, and I was honestly blown away by how beautiful and lively the area is. The square is surrounded by stunning colonial architecture, including the grand Primatial Cathedral, the National Capitol building, and the Palace of Justice. Everywhere you look feels like a snapshot from a different era, full of rich history and culture. The atmosphere is vibrant yet laid-back. I spent a couple of hours just hanging out, people-watching, and enjoying the view. There are plenty of pigeons flying around, and while they might surprise you at first, it actually adds to the charm of the place. I found it peaceful just sitting there, watching the birds and soaking in the energy of the square. Around the edges of the square, you’ll find small flea market-style stalls selling antiques, crafts, and local goods. It’s a great place to browse for souvenirs or even just admire the handmade items. Some of the antiques and vintage finds were really interesting and felt like they had stories behind them. There are also several nice cafes and restaurants nearby, so it’s easy to take a break with a coffee or a snack while still enjoying the view. The mix of locals and tourists gives the area a welcoming, community vibe. Tips for tourists like me: - Visit during the daytime when everything is open and the square is at its liveliest. - Bring small cash if you want to buy from the flea market vendors. - Keep your belongings close, as it can get crowded. - Take time to explore the nearby streets. There’s more beautiful architecture and street art just a few blocks away. Overall, Bolivar Square was one of the highlights of my visit to Bogota. It’s beautiful, historical, and full of character. Whether you’re into history, architecture, shopping, or just want to relax and observe city life, this place has something for everyone.

Nice place to come and check as a tourist. There are tons of small local places to eat. Just don't get discouraged by the size of small street local restaurants. Make sure you have cash on you because many places won't accept credit cards. This is safe area to walk specially during daytime. Many street sellers so you can get any type of souvenirs you could dream on. Don't forget to negotiate with the street vendors!!

The Plaza de Bolívar is an important historical and cultural spot in Bogotá. It’s interesting to see the grand buildings like the cathedral and the government palace all in one place. However, the square itself felt a bit chaotic and not very well maintained. There were quite a few pigeons and street vendors, which can take away a bit from the atmosphere. Still, it’s worth a short visit to get a sense of the city’s history – just don’t expect too much charm.

Beautiful plaza in the heart of Bogota Colombia. Full of life color and especially pigeons. People sell food that you can use to feed the pigeons with. It is home to over 34 thousand pieces made of gold and tumbaga, showcasing the art and goldsmithing used by various indigenous communities in Colombia.
Much richer than expected. The museum offers a wide range of well-presented exhibits, with clear explanations through both the audio guide and display texts. I took a slow, thorough walk through and spent about 6 hours. Highlights: 1) gold and other metalworking techniques; 2) artifacts and decorations from different regions of Colombia; 3) offerings and their ritual significance. A deeply rewarding visit.

Great big museum in Bogota... Good location... One of the main things and attraction to see when you in this city and all Colombia ... The entrance is 5000 pezos, about 1euro...its cheap...Museum is on 3 floors..They are open every day except Monday until 6pm... There you can see all Colombian history... Also you can see some videos in few rooms... So much pieces of gold, neckles, rings, crowns..In the basement you can buy some unique things.. Sometimes it's very crowded... All recommendations for visit and enjoy if you are in Bogota

A wonderful place to visit to get an idea of aboriginal culture of gold making and their ingenuity and craftsmanship. Some pieces are so delicately made with in such small details that it is unbelievable how they could achieve this. You'll learn a lot about metal and gold craftsmanship and the beliefs and culture of the people who occupied the land before European colonization. In regards to accessibility, easy access for all with elevators and easy guide signs. Translation in English were available, and was possible to get audio guide. In August 2025, it was free on Sundays for attendance.

The Restaurant...thats all ill say! The museum is insightful to the norms of the areas and some insight to their industrious ways to create tools and jewelry. Also their awareness of surrounding or impeding cultures. But the Restaurant took the cake! Waitstaff was so nice and helpful. The runner for the food was so polite and considerate. Our waitress was sweet and on it! Again, the museum is dope but the Restaurant took the cake! And not the Cafe....the restaurant. Im not sure what the Cafe has because we never made it there. We had the salmon salad ( amazing greens choice and cooking style...roasted bits added depth and texture) and the pumpkin curry...just so frigging good ( roasted pumpkin rib like is was a salmon slab...curry with a wonderful balance of coconut cream and spices and the coconut rice was perfectly baked with coconut flavored and tiny fluffy pillows of savoriness)...and the tangerine juice...great museum! Definitely would stop pass!

We visited this museum while exploring Bogotá. We visited during a weekend and there was a line in front of the building. It took about 10 minutes to get in. The entrance fee is quite low. The museum itself is quite big with multiple floors. Most information is in Spanish and English. When we visited it was quite busy and sometimes there were too many people to properly enjoy the collections. However, there were many impressive artefacts and we were glad we saw them to better understand Colombian history and culture. There is also a gift shop and a coffee shop in the basement. This is a perfect place to visit on a rainy day.

Liked the place, used aerial tramway while climbing up, awesome views, nice church, bit crowded though, due to it decided to walk down instead of waiting in the queue for tram. There are small shops available all the way down for snaks & drinks.

I highly recommend going in the morning and buying tickets in advance online. I went at 10:00 on a weekday, and saved about 20 minutes by skipping the ticket line. When I came down around 11:30, the lines were so long, even if you bought tickets in advance you would still be waiting. This is the only tourist attraction in Colombia I’ve done without vendors hassling the whole time. There is a barricade by the entrance, so once you cross it they’ll leave you alone. There are a handful on the hiking trail, but they are not aggressive at all. This can be a very spiritual experience. There was a church having mass when I went, are there is a Way of the Cross. If you are religious at all, I would encourage you to lean into it and use this time for reflection and worship. If not, you can definitely skip all of the religious stuff. It should go without saying, but it’s 3100m/10,000ft in elevation, so if you live at sea level, be prepared for a very strenuous walk. But there are restaurants and food vendors, so if you need to take a break and get some food or drink, you can.

Highly recommend! Visited on a Saturday afternoon in October and barely had to wait. Took the tram up and the gondola down — I’d definitely suggest that combo. By the time we came down around 5 p.m., there was a long line for the gondola going up. I actually wish I’d planned to walk down; once at the top, I realized it would’ve been a beautiful route. There’s also a lovely church up there with several services throughout the day, very welcoming atmosphere.

Really enjoyed Monserrate. Cable car was fun and walking down trail took some time and our legs were certainly feeling it the next day. But it was a enjoyable long scenic trail. Make sure to buy advance tickets to avoid long lines. No need to worry about times since no one checks. Just have pre paid tickets. The only warning we can give is DO NOT under any circumstances eat at those small restaurants after local shops. We got terribly sick later in day. Yes, they have amazing views but the food not only made us sick but was horrible, and not fresh. ONLY eat at the 2 main restaurants to avoid any problems. You have been warned!
RDA — Google review
Monserrate is one of Bogotá’s most breathtaking landmarks—towering at roughly 3,152 meters, it offers a stunning vantage point over the city. You can reach the top by foot, funicular, or cable car, all leading to a peaceful neo-Gothic church called the Sanctuary of the Fallen Lord. Once there, enjoy panoramic city views, grab a bite in one of the small restaurants, or browse local artisan stalls. It’s a powerful mix of natural beauty, spiritual calm, and cultural heritage.
Manikandan — Google review
Sure the view is amazing and the area offers beautiful bird walks and a nice Cafe Santa Clara! But: 1) they close the stairs down at 4.15pm so you have to take one of the other options. 2) they close the funicular at the same time which means an hour in line on the weekend. Or... Go to Santa Clara and have a drink and watch birds until the line shrinks after 17:30.
Wouter B — Google review
Worth the drive, although you must pay attention to how the navigation takes you to the parking lot. The view is great, there’s also a bunch of places to get coffee and a bite.

Parque de la 93

Park
Nature & Parks
Parque de la 93 is a popular outdoor destination in Bogota, offering green spaces, playgrounds, and benches for visitors to enjoy. It's a great spot for families to explore and play together. The park features attractive landscapes with large trees and plenty of seating areas for relaxation. Located in the northern end of Chapinero, it's known for its upscale atmosphere and modern amenities.
Parque de la 93 is a wonderful, safe place to visit, especially with kids. It’s a great spot for walking around with your family and feeling at ease. We were there in December during a festive event to kick off the holiday season, and the atmosphere was lively with lots of people celebrating together. The park is spacious, and kids can play while you sit back, relax, and even enjoy some drinks. There are plenty of restaurants in the surrounding area, making it a perfect spot to spend the day with your family. That said, it’s always good to stay aware, especially if you wander too far outside the park, as some corners may feel less secure. But as long as you stay within the park’s main area, it’s very safe and enjoyable. I highly recommend Parque de la 93 for families—great ambiance, lots of space, and a vibrant neighborhood. Definitely a must-visit!

Great park! Tables, seats amongst the flowers to play domino and bring your coffee. Kids playground and Dog play area. Beautiful giant palms. Safe, surrounded by restaurants and shopping. No ticket needed.

There’s always something going on at Parque de la 93 🌳☀️ This park may be small, but they really made the most out of it. There is lots of seating, both benches and little tables with chairs, and even the occasional coffee stand. You have a lovely view of the mountains and palm trees from one end of the park. There’s a playground for kids and all around the park, there are nice cafes, restaurants and bars. Since there are many companies nearby, it’s also a popular spot for people to take a break in the sun. The park has its own Instagram page where they share events, offer yoga classes and other sports activities. The space is often used for pop up stands, markets and different cultural activities. There’s a big shopping festival called Feria EVA that happens here. The whole space gets transformed into pink stalls with local artists and brands selling their clothes, jewelry, decor and more. They set up a stage with live music and have food stands around the area as well. So, as you can see, there’s always something to do or see at Parque de la 93.

It’s a peaceful green space in the middle of the bustling city, perfect for a relaxing stroll or just sitting down with a coffee and watching the world go by. The atmosphere is vibrant yet calm, and it feels very safe and welcoming.

Parque 93 in Bogotá is a hidden gem, offering a delightful blend of tranquility and vibrant energy. The park boasts a plethora of food choices, with standout options like Starbucks and local options, providing an exquisite culinary experience. From local flavors to international delights, there's a dish to satisfy every palate. The beauty of the scenery is truly captivating, creating a serene escape amidst the urban hustle. Lush greenery, well-maintained paths, and charming water features make it an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll or a relaxing afternoon picnic. I particularly loved the amount, size, and greenery of the trees in this particular area. For those seeking a laid-back atmosphere, Parque 93 is a haven. The ascetic charm of the park, combined with the diverse food offerings, makes it an easy-going destination for locals and visitors alike. Whether you're a food enthusiast or someone craving a tranquil retreat, Parque 93 delivers a harmonious experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Stopped here after dinner to just walk around and definitely Safe to hang out at night as a single woman - there’s so many people out. There are play spaces for kids, but at night it’s gonna be a lot of teenagers/couple. With the surrounding cafés and restaurants in Parker great to just hang out and talk for a place of a space for greenery.
Mariah J — Google review
It’s a beautiful little park for kids... it has areas assigned by age group with signs, it also has security guards. The sand pit is great, along with the boat, and the climbing spider ball. Kids absolutely love this park! I wish they would close it off with small/short gate since it’s a very business oriented area and a lot of grown ups also like to hang out. The grassy area has a lot of events but it’s mostly for dogs and grown ups.

Great place to visit on a lazy day at San Francisco / La Vega. Beautiful nature, quiet and friendly helpful staff. Witnessed the release of a sloth in the reservation after being rescued somewhere in the colder areas of La Vega. Three paths to walk, easy, but need to watch your step. It can be muddy and slippery. Great place to spot birds, tortoises, butterflies, fireflies, and much more if patient and quiet enough. Looked after contractors from the municipality, it looks tidy and well kept. Please leave your dog at home to not scare away wildlife.

A beautiful place to have a walk, lots of birds and very peaceful

It is very rustic Park with no trails maps nor toilet or changing facilities nor food nor refreshments. The lake is muddy not looking good for swimming with looks like big carp and some ducks. Trails in the area and around the lake are hand-built stone paths take care walking often people walk beside on smoother ground. Several groups came when we did and one walk up above to view point or around the lake all left in less than one hour. Lots of tropical plants and entrance displayed wide variety of butterflies but we saw none. There is a nice little restaurant across the road from the entrance. Admission was 28509 for 3 adults. Long drive from La Vega for not much.

2 different options: 1- Drive from Bogotá(1hr and 20 min) Check out the lake and have lunch in La Vega.( Many more options than at the lake) 2- For enthusiast bikers and hikers, ride your bike from La Vega to the lake. (1.2 hour climb) then hike your way up to the peak of the mountain next to the lake (40 min climb).

Theme park
Theme park with replicas of world landmarks, a zoo & environmental space with conservation programs.
Amazing park, full of nature, history. We were there for 5 hours, and still couldn't walk and see everything, so better plan to go there from early morning. Minus - that some parts do not have English translation, especially about the battles in the sea. Worth the price.

It's a real world-class park! They have tonnes of things to do, but the best part is their condors conservation efforts and ecopark. Better come early at the opening hours to have the whole day for exploring their wonderful facilities

Jaime Duque Park is one of my favorite places to visit with friends or family. It has a beautiful zoo where there is a great variety of mammals, felines, birds and many animals that are in very good condition. You can also enjoy a wide variety of restaurants and dining options. You have many activities for the whole family and for all ages: the medieval castle, The Thousand and One Nights, the aviary and a giant map of Colombia in high relief. It is an experience that you cannot miss.
William J — Google review
Visited with my family.. We loved the place.. The zoo area is beautiful.. The park is huge, very organized and with plenty of things to do for adults and children. Visited on a Saturday and it wasn't too crowded. We wished we had more time to visit a second time since there is not enough time to enjoy the whole park and activities in just one day.

The Colombian version of Disney world. For only about $16 ( and a percentage of ticket sales gets donated to a children’s hospital ) you can easily spend the entire day enjoying full access to the whole park which includes a couple of boat rides, museums and a ton of attractions. You’re even allowed to bring your own snacks and drinks. I had a great time and I highly recommend this park.

Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá Salt

Catholic church
Located in the charming town of Zipaquira, about 30 miles from Bogota, the Salt Cathedral is a unique underground sanctuary carved within a salt mine. Standing at an impressive 2,652 meters above sea level, this subterranean wonder offers guided tours and features a souvenir shop for visitors. Despite its name, it doesn't have the typical architectural structure of a cathedral and lacks religious figures or priests. Descending about 660 feet below the surface adds to its mystical ambiance.
It was an incredible experience and I recommend to everyone who’s visiting Colombia to come here! It is such a unique experience and you get to experience something that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world. The tour guides were very fun and made the experience even more enjoyable. Great food and awesome pictures. Nothing bad to say about the place.even if you’re not religious it is an experience worth while.

What a place, really cool and definitely something you need to do at least once in your life. I liked the first part as you get to see all the different rooms one after the other, they have cool lighting inside so the rooms look really nice. I also really liked the first movie room where it explained how the mine was created and why. The only part I didn’t like was the part where they are selling stuff as it seemed more like a tourist attraction and less on an mine. You can’t see the full mine and I wish they had more adventures activities and more of the mine open.

Impressive place. Absolutely must visit if in Bogota/Colombia. Take your time inside the cathedral / mine. There are shops etc down there. Easy spend 1-2 hour down. Recommend to take the train/bus when exit - free.
Lasse H — Google review
The Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá is one of the most unique and awe-inspiring attractions I’ve ever visited. Built inside a working salt mine, this underground cathedral combines natural beauty, architecture, and spirituality in a truly magical way. The moment you descend into the tunnels, you can feel the peaceful and sacred atmosphere all around you. The lighting design is breathtaking — colors reflecting off the salt walls create a surreal, almost celestial ambiance. Each of the Stations of the Cross is beautifully carved, and the main cathedral chamber leaves you speechless with its grand scale and artistic detail. It’s incredible to think everything here is made of salt! The guided tours are well-organized and informative, offering fascinating insights into the history of the mine and the faith that inspired its transformation. There’s also a lovely souvenir area, a café, and even a small light show that adds a modern touch to the experience. This isn’t just a church — it’s a masterpiece of engineering, art, and devotion hidden deep underground. A visit to Zipaquirá wouldn’t be complete without seeing it!
Vakhtang J — Google review
The Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá is one of the most incredible tour experiences you can have near Bogotá. The moment you enter the salt mine, the atmosphere, lighting, and architecture take your breath away. The cathedral is beautifully carved, peaceful, and truly unique — unlike anything else in the world. The tour is well organized, the guides are knowledgeable, and every section of the mine tells a powerful story. Whether you’re visiting for cultural, historical, or spiritual reasons, this place is unforgettable.
Magno T — Google review
An absolutely beautiful place and definitely worth a visit! Very glad I booked a small group tour as there were some massive groups with loud tour guides, which we were able to avoid to an extent. There was also a very big queue when we were living. It was a bank holiday Monday, so I’m sure that didn’t help.
Hope — Google review
What have they done to this place? I’ve been here 10 years ago and it was amazing. And of course it is still impressive but they have now turned it into a Disneyland/shopping mall. There are are dozens of shops inside the mine, I’ve counted at least two ice cream shops and someone thought that it was a good idea to put a cafeteria in there. So now you walk around this impressive man made structure smelling burned oil…On top of that the audioguide is a joke. They tell you absolutely nothing about the history of the place, how the indigenous started mining. It’s focused on religious stuff and how Jesus walked with the cross. This h smithing to do with the place. Furthermore they have increased the price for foreigners to 110.000. Which would have been fine if they would have left the place as it was, instead of turning into a fun park.
Daniel — Google review
The Salt Cathedral is an unforgettable experience, blending faith, art, and natural wonder deep inside the earth. Walking through the illuminated tunnels feels almost otherworldly, and the sculpted Stations of the Cross add a powerful sense of devotion. The main cathedral hall is stunning, but the gentle presence of the Rosary Mother statue stands out even more—quiet, comforting, and beautifully crafted. It’s a place that invites reflection, prayer, and a deep sense of peace, making the visit both moving and memorable.

Lake Guatavita

Lake
Outdoor Activities
This small, circular lake in a scenic, forest-fringed crater was a sacred site of the Muisca people.
Well worth the bus ride out here. Great views of the lake and surrounding countryside. Good for families. You have to be reasonably fit but for the up but not too strenuous. We followed the Spanish speaking tour. I think you have to arrange your own English guide ahead of time if you want one.
Deegy D — Google review
A lake of incredible beauty. You'll climb to an altitude of over 3,000 metres to observe the lake. Don't worry, the climb is fairly straightforward and accompanied by a guide. With several historical pauses. A must if you're ever in the area. You won't regret the view.
Mich _ — Google review
One of the most beautiful lakes in Colombia. At an altitude of over 3,000 meters. It is worth visiting with your eyes closed. The climb to reach the top is about 20'-30' minutes. The view you see as you climb up is fantastic!!!
Stelios F — Google review
I enjoyed having a look here, but it is a bit overrated. The main problem is that it is compulsory to have a guide (in Spanish only!). You cannot walk alone. And to make things more annoying, after the tour finishes, you are not permitted to walk back from where you came. You have to do a longer route and pay extra to take a bus back to the main entry point.

Interesting history about the Spanish's and British's involvement in attempting to drain the lake in search of gold. Good job done by the local authorities to conserve and preserve the ecosystem around the lake. Uphill walk (slightly strenuous) to the lake. Unique vegetation in the park
