Visitors often rave about the comfortable atmosphere, enhanced by effective air conditioning that keeps the environment pleasant. The theater serves as a cultural hub, showcasing various events like art competitions featuring local students from ArtCeb High School, which adds to its charm. This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The multiple breath taking waterfalls and beauty of the forest along the walk to them are unlike anything I have seen or can describe. They also have a resort like pool atmosphere and restaurant with good food for after your walk into natural beauty. Worth every dollar.

Poço Azul

Bodies of Water
Nature in the state of Maranhão is just breathtaking. When you see a waterfall like this, when you just walk surrounded by unspoiled nature, you feel privileged. Must come and see
Jon L — Google review
Surprisingly relaxing and satisfying place once you get there. Very good structure considering it is in the middle of nowhere. The road from Carolina-MA is very dangerous to many holes plus the road from Riachão-MA to Poço Azul there is no asphalt. Four star is because the last steps of the ramp to acces the Poço Azul is slippery, 2 guys fell in front of me one of them is my husband. Second a cover should be provided to cover the breakfast to stop the flies and mosquitos on the food, is disgusting to serve your food with a flie on it and third is not appealing to share your bed with some insects, there are so many options to avoid them to go into the rooms. One more suggestion, give the guests the opportunity to decide how sweet they would have their cooffe, do not assume everybody have sugar or sweetener.
Marilene F — Google review
This kind of misogynistic b.s. is completely inappropriate. I’m sure the water is nice but after we saw this, we left. We went to Encanto Azul just down the road instead. Beautiful there.

It is very pretty with a decent drop. The path to get there is a trail. The entrance fee was included in the package. Along the way, you'll encounter two wonderful waterfalls, as well as spot wildlife and hear birdsong, making the hike even more special. The main waterfall offers stunning views, with ice-cold, refreshing water—perfect for a refreshing dip. It's a great place to spend the day and relax. Entrance costs R$30, and for those arriving by motorcycle, there's a secure storage area at the entrance where helmets can be stored, making the trip to the waterfall easier. I highly recommend it! Waterfall Roncadeira is a delightful tourist destination that offers an enjoyable stopover along a petite path, granting visitors the chance to descend down the cascading waterfall. Although the shaded areas can be chilly, this park boasts stunning natural beauty that attracts numerous visitors. The picturesque landscape and charming surroundings make it well worth a visit. Canyon Sussuapara is a stunning natural attraction located in Jalapao, offering visitors a range of experiences. The area features TO-130 with Pedra Furada, TO-255 showcasing the canyon itself along with Lajeado Waterfall, Jalapao Dunes, Serra do Espirito Santo, Cachoeira da Velha and Prainha do Rio Novo. Additionally, TO-110 boasts Cachoeira do Formiga and boilers.
(Translated by Google) The Sussuapara Canyon is considered an obligatory stop for anyone visiting Jalapão, located 12 km from the city of Ponte Alta, you need to go by car, or some other means of transport, from the center of the city of Ponte Alta, this route is approximately 5 km, on a dirt road and after that you need to walk along a very small trail, approximately 100 meters long. The Sussuapara Canyon is a very narrow crack, with damp walls, with water dripping all the time and lots of plants, mainly ferns and mosses, which give the place a very wild and bucolic feel. The natural beauty of the place enchants anyone who passes by, as in addition to being very wooded and full of beautiful natural vegetation, it has a varied fauna. The name of the place originated from the large number of suçuapara deer, which means “galheiro deer” in Tupi-Guarani, that lived there, but nowadays, it is very difficult to see this animal in the region. Furthermore, legend has it that the place has mystical properties and this happens because of the white stones that are scattered across the walls and floor of the canyon and that according to belief, whoever collects the stones and sticks them on the walls can make a wish. which will become reality, as it will be attended to by the mystical beings that live in the region.

According to older residents, the river poured its sand and filled in the well. We had a guide discount in our class. R$20 per person instead of 30, as normal. We were 11 people. And, we would be charged 220 reais. They didn't give up. And we left without going in. More, for the stress than for the value. I didn't think it was worth paying the 330 reais. I don't think they lost it, nor did we! But, it doesn't have my recommendation. (Translated by Google) We chose Buriti on recommendation and it was the best thing we did. Everything very organized, comfortable and clean car, schedules kept. But the difference on this trip was our guide Dete. Think of a good, polite guy who enjoys the trip and every walk with us. Dete is not a guide, he is a friend, he takes beautiful photos and cares about every detail, to provide the best experience. Not to mention that Jalapão is wonderful and you won't see what's there anywhere else. There are breathtaking landscapes, homemade quilombola food with a taste of grandma's food, boiling waters, waterfalls with their impeccable nature. I'm leaving feeling like I want more and I'm already planning to return soon.

The agency's package is very good as it offers 4x4 transfers, food, accommodation and access to attractions... but certainly what made the tour even better was our guide Jhon, as well as a lot of good people, a rally driver and a pro photographer, if He was concerned the entire time with providing us with the best possible experience, knowing the right moments to arrive at the attractions so we could enjoy it more and showing us the most beautiful peaks of the attraction. To top it all off, Jhon spent almost an hour diving at the bottom of an angry waterfall trying to recover a ring we lost... in short, it was really good and I highly recommend it! Pedra Furada Jalapão

Nature & Parks
Farm household tour
Pedra Furada in Jalapão is a must-visit destination, offering breathtaking views and an incredible sunset experience. Accessible by 4x4 car, this spot provides ample photo opportunities and a chance to witness the region's immensity. However, it's crucial to preserve the area by refraining from writing or scratching the rock, as it easily erodes. Overall, Pedra Furada is a transcendental location that promises unforgettable moments and stunning vistas for travelers who appreciate natural beauty.
Really great place to visit! Have so many beautiful views and the sunset there is amazing!!! Go with a 4x4 car and camera! Just do everyone's a favor: don't write or scratch the rock! It turns into sand so easily that we will soon have no more Pedra Furada to visit! =/

Casual quarters in an unassuming rural inn featuring a restaurant, a sauna & an outdoor pool.
very nice relaxing place, all green around this Pousada, birds singing, small water fall close-by, friendly staff, tasty typical food, good/clean cabins, for individual travelling - great experience :-)

Been here a couple of times. Peaceful place. Nice food. Short hiking to river. Once there, indulge yourself with the sound and the touching of the stream. Taste each sensation!

Place surrounded by nature. No wifi or mobile network available (except Vivo). Great for those who are looking for a city scape. There is a relaxing waterfall in the property, free access for guests.

(Translated by Google) This guesthouse is located within the Vale das Araras Private Natural Reserve (RPPN). The accommodations are simple, yet very well-equipped and very cozy. The guesthouse has a restaurant for breakfast and other meals. The food is plentiful and delicious! The reserve where the guesthouse is located is an attraction in itself. There are 6 km of trails with swimming spots and a waterfall. Everything is very well maintained, and you can download audio recordings to listen to at certain points along the trail, which tell the history of the place before it became a reserve. An unmissable trip! The service was excellent from arrival to departure. The attentive and caring attention of the owner (Richard) and the manager (Shirley) ensured everything ran smoothly. I will definitely be back!

(Translated by Google) An excellent choice for staying in Cavalcante! Hospitality, politeness, attention, and care were top notch from everyone, from the receptionists (João and Rafael) to the kitchen staff, and even the owner. The place is pleasant, well-maintained, with good food and an excellent breakfast. There are even waterfalls with well-marked trails on the property. Chapada dos Veadeiros gave me fond memories, and staying at Pousada Vale das Araras was essential for that.

(Translated by Google) I thought the inn was amazing. The cabins have large, comfortable beds. The grounds are very well-kept, and the service from everyone who works there is wonderful. The breakfast is very complete and gave us plenty of energy to tackle the trails. The inn also provides access to a waterfall with a well-marked trail less than 2 km away. They also have a good variety of beers on the menu. I also ordered a parmigiana at their restaurant, which was very well served and delicious. (Original) Achei a pousada sensacional.

(Translated by Google) I only did the trails and recommend leaving the waterfall for last, as it gets the sun all afternoon. Just be careful, as the rocks can be quite slippery. The trails are generally shaded; the only one with a bit of sun is the Ouro Trail, which is completely contemplative. The price is great: we paid R$25 per person. Apenas fiquem atentos, pois as pedras escorregam bastante.

Everyone knows it as a great place to watch the sunset. It is that, but not good for much else. And I have to wonder if just stopping at some other random spot along the road would offer comparable views of the sunset. Having said that, the night I was there (unremarkable evening in July) there was a crowd of 30-40 people there, all gathered just to watch the sunset. Kinda fun and heartwarming to gather for such a simple and rarely celebrated event.
David E — Google review
You can just stop your car at some random place along the road and it would be the same thing. There is nothing special here. The sunset and the Morro da Baleia view are beautiful, but you could get the same view from hundreds of different places in the area.
Diogo — Google review
Nice place to watch the sun set and look at the stars at night. Though you're limited to a couple view points and the place gets dirty after weekends when uneducated people use it as a toilet and leave their garbage behind.
Fernando B — Google review
Umm I don't get this place. The only thing that is worth going there for is to see the sunset. Apart from that there is nothing to see.

Abyss Waterfall is a stunning natural attraction that can be reached via a challenging six-hour round trip hike. Along the way, hikers can enjoy sensational views and cool off at the waterfall. The trail offers a wonderful view framed by stones at Mirante de Janela, also known as the viewpoint of the window. However, it's important to note that this area is home to rattlesnakes, so visitors should proceed with caution.
Wonderful view but accessed only via a difficult/hard trail. Don't go if you are not in your best fit. Be aware! It is a rattlesnake habitat area!

Vale da Lua

Vale da Lua, also known as Moon Valley, is a renowned tourist spot in Chapada dos Veadeiros. The landscape resembles the lunar surface with its unique rock formations sculpted by the erosive power of the Sao Miguel River over millions of years. Visitors can explore corridors and cauldrons created by the rushing river, offering swimming holes, wells, caves, and crevices to discover.
1 billion year old sedimentary conglomerate soft rock being weathered into wonderful patterns with chances to swim in the pools
Andrew M — Google review
After thoroughly researching the waterfalls and trails in Chapada dos Veadeiros, I was genuinely torn about whether or not to visit Vale da Lua. It’s one of the most talked-about spots in the region, and naturally, expectations were high. However, I left with mixed feelings. While the rock formations shaped over millennia are visually striking, the overall visitor experience left much to be desired — especially considering the entrance fee, which is relatively high for what is offered. What many travelers might not know beforehand is that several natural attractions in the region, including Vale da Lua, are located on private land. That alone isn’t necessarily a problem — as long as the management offers value in return. In this case, however, there is virtually no infrastructure, no educational or environmental interpretation, and no visible oversight or preservation efforts at the site. The trail is short and accessible, but beyond the views, there’s little to enhance the experience or justify the cost. Nature in its purest form is priceless, and while it’s understandable that maintenance comes at a cost, visitors deserve more than just access — they deserve care, information, and basic facilities that protect both them and the environment. Sadly, I saw no trash bins, no guides, and no clear signage. If you’re seeking a more meaningful connection with nature, I recommend exploring the many free or lower-cost trails in the area. These often provide not only richer immersion but also more solitude and authenticity, far from the “Instagram-only” experiences. Chapada dos Veadeiros is full of incredible natural beauty — you just have to know where to look beyond the hype.

Nothing special. Crowded and way to expensive for what it is. After 20 minutes I was out. It's more for people who like an Instagram photo and don't like to hike. If you are a hiker, there are way more prettier things to see! I was so disappointed
Nell R — Google review
This is the closest I'll ever get to being on the moon without actually being there 😆. The natural rock formations is stunning and lots of opportunities for cool pictures. There are crevices/caves in the water area that are cool to explore if you have a tour guide or someone that knows where to go. It can be quite claustrophobic/scary if you're not comfortable with enclosed spaces and/or swimming.
Leanna C — Google review
40 real for entrance in low season, but only pix or cash . Pretty short trail but very interesting and unusual. It is really like the moon surface
Igor D — Google review
This place is very unique and strongly recommended for a special experience. This is so different from most places I've seen! The rock formation, the color, and the scenery are breathtaking! 40 reas to enter! Hitchhiking is very easy in this city, even from Alto Paraiso. It took me 5 min to hop in a ride as there is no bus transportation (i heard of one but everyone Hitchhikes). Taxi can be costly there. Every fall cost 40 reas, including the 3 or 4 miradors. So, be ready to spend to access these places. I preferred Salto Curumbo (south of Brasilia as it had 5 amazing waterfalls, a waterpark, and 3 swimming pool for 65 reas). See and follow my other reviews for pics.

Crazy moon landscape with canyons, pools and unbelievable rocks. Be careful of the weather because the zone is subjected to sudden and violent floods. Trust local people indication and respect the limits. Enjoy and wander in this wonderful place!

Small, but pretty place with peculiar rock formations and a river that forms nice baths. Mild trails present a beginner level tracking challenge making the visit suitable for children as well as adults.

Cachoeira Raizama is a must-visit spot in Chapada Veadeiros, easily accessible from Sao Jorge. The area offers a variety of attractions including the Vale da Lua, Cachoeira do Segredo trail, Cachoeiras Almecegas and II, Cachoeira Sao Bento, and Cachoeira Morada do Sol.
There is a really cool path to walk through the property with some interesting falls and viewpoints. The place has a pretty artsy vibe which I found to be quite distinct. There is a nice swimming area as well.

Dangerous place with no proper precaution or safety we lost someone we love very much here who was taken by the waters. He was not guided or warned about specific areas. His death was tragic and this place deserves to be permanently closed. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE!

2 days ago my friend went missing at this waterfall and he still hasn't been found yet... Google search "Raul Jimenez missing in Brazil" for details. Long story short, he and a couple of friends visited this specific waterfall and while they were there a flash flood came and swept Raul into the river. The others were rescued, but there is a nationwide search & rescue effort to find Raul asap. They have drones, divers, dogs, helicopters, and experts who are repelling that canyon in search of him, but he's yet to be found. Beware at this waterfall, do your research & find out what the recent rainfall was up-river of this spot if you ever decide to visit this waterfall so that you don't go there when flash flood conditions are possible. They had 1-3inches of water, easy to walk, until the flash flood hit and the water level immediately went up to their shoulders in seconds. At first, Raul found safety on higher ground for a few moments but the water level kept rising and eventually he had nothing left to hold onto, and got swept into the river by the raging current. His friend hung onto a rock for 6hrs before he was rescued at 11pm. Again, do your research and please be cautious....and possibly consider going to a different waterfall instead!

AVIOD AT ALL COSTS It’s not worth your life. A DEATH TRAP My best friend had a tragic death here that could of been prevented if this place was safe and secure. There is no information or security here for your safety. No near by ambulances, firefighters or anyone that can come and help you if you get seriously hurt. My bestfriend was swepted away by a flood of water. There were no signs to give him any warning or guide. By far the worst place to visit due to lack of transparency and accountability. We also discovered other people have died here prior. Not to mention when you get there it is so poorly managed and disorganized, things look super creepy and abandoned. This place deserves 0 stars and needs to be permanently closed!
