During our vacations through Argentina we had the opportunity to visit Puerto Deseado and selected Darwin Expeditions to give us a close encounter with the amazing wildlife in this beautiful region of the world. The team from Darwin exceeded all our expectations and more, not only sharing their extensive knowledge but sharing their love and passion for what they do on a daily basis. We want to thank and highly recommend Roxi, Javier and Ricardo for giving us an experience that will stay with us forever. Joanne and Joseph Lopez.

Puerto Deseado is absolutely a hidden gem in Argentina and a must stop for nature lovers. While our excursion with Darwin Expedition was the absolute highlight of our trip into the area. We were transported to the Penguin Island the boat ride itself was an adventure with albatross flying around us. Before we arrive we stopped at a smaller island which was filled with sea lions then upon landing on the island we are greeted by a hundreds of male sea lions and elephant seals. We take the most spectacular hike to the other side of the island while traversing we encounter many Magallenic penguins then on the other side we find a huge colony of rock hoppers. It was the most incredible tour. We were able to sit and watch the wild life and our guide had knowledge to share regarding the lifestyle of the animals. I absolutely recommend this tour.

Thanks for the great trip! Roxana is the best guide we ever had! Explains everything in 4 languages and is really nice. If you are in Patagonia you have to go here. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Absolutely amazing. Loved it and saw so much as well as the rock hoppers. Roxana and Ricardo put everything into it, and there love of what they do shines through. Thanks so much for a day we will always remember, and thanks to the rockhoppers for entertaining us so well.
Rob H — Google review
We did the tour to the Ria with Roxana. It was meant to be 2 hours long and we did a bit over 3. She did the tour both, in spanish and english which was great for us. We saw plenty of sea lions and penguins (a lot more than in Peninsula Valdez and Punta Tombo). We really recommend this tour and the company. Thanks guys for the great afternoon
Nico A — Google review
Easy and spontaneous booking the day before via Whatsapp. Had an amazing half-day tour, went on shore at Isla Pingüino and spent a few hours observing loads of Magellanic and Rockhopper Penguins. Great and experienced crew, especially our guide Roxana. Lovely person who is also fluent in Spanish English, Italian etc. Tour included sandwich lunch, fruit and tea. Great value for price, highly recommended!
Sandra S — Google review
We recently took a tour with Darwin Expediciones and it was absolutely amazing, Roxy and her team are amazing. We had a lot time with the penguines and came very close to them but always in safe distance to not disturb them. Also on the way to the island we could see Magellanic penguins feeding and many doplhins up close to the boat. Can highly recommend this company, muchas gracias ;)

The Petroleum Museum in Comodoro Rivadavia offers a comprehensive history of oil and its origins. The museum features interactive displays, real equipment used in oil extraction, and a 4D experience simulating well digging. Visitors can explore the process of mining oil and learn about the equipment used. The museum also boasts knowledgeable guides who provide informative tours. It's a must-visit attraction for those interested in the beginnings of oil mining and distribution.
Like this place. I've learned a lot of different information about the oil production and refining. As well it was fun to visit immersive room wereyou sink to the bottom of the pit (I think it's good activity for the kids) As well I want to mention our guide Miguel it was a pleasure to communicate with him. At the end of tour he showed us oil in the bottle and give the sample that gave us an understanding about the oil smell

This museum is worth going to when you have a transfer at Comodoro Rivadavia. It’s about the beginning of mining oil and tells you a nice story how they did it and how they do it right now. It tells you also what kind of equipment they use to find oil.

The Egidio Feruglio Paleontological Museum in Trelew is a must-visit for anyone interested in prehistory. The museum offers interpretive tours that take visitors on a journey through millions of years of Patagonia's history, showcasing life forms that once populated the region. One of the main highlights is the discovery of the Patagotitan Mayorum, the largest dinosaur in the world, with remarkably well-preserved bones.
Wonderful surprise in Trelew! The displays are very well presented and full of relevant information. Great place for young & old alike. They have a cafe and gift shop also.

Inside the halls of the new MEF is one of the best paleontology exhibits in the world. This museum is in the same class as the American Museum of Natural History, the Field Museum, the MFN in Berlin - it is that good! Most photos shown in maps are of the older museum, before the major renovation and reopening in 2024. I have uploaded a few newer ones myself. The sense of wonder I had in this museum was beyond any other I've visited. The setting and lighting of the fossils and casts; the selection of fossils displayed, including really obscure ones, chronological narrative centered around evolution. And of course, the sheer awe of walking along and below Patagotitan, Giganotosaurus and the other casts. No other museum in South America immerses you so well in the ancient life of the continent. For everyone enthusiastic about dinosaurs, or the Cenozoic, children and adults alike - you will want your visit to last forever.

Museum was visited as an organised tour from port. English speaking guide was provided by the museum which helped to make the experience wonderful. Guide was fluent in English, passionate about the museum and exhibits and was able to answer complex questions. Though I am unsure of the booking process for the service I would highly recommend it as it truly enhanced the experience. Wonderful mix of replica and fossil evidence laid out in a well maintained building.

An outstanding experience! I strongly recommend that you take this tour. The images and videos of the accompanying professional photographer Luis Burgueño were excellent and are also strongly recommended. I did not expect this kind of quality in the photos. We encountered the dolphins and I was impressed by how careful the staff handled the situation. They seemed to share our fascination with these animals. The tour lasted much longer than announced, because we spent so much time with the dolphins. The ride was safe, sometimes a little bit rough, due to strong winds, but nobody got wet. One final remark: relax and concentrate on watching the dolphins and don’t waste time trying to photograph them. They are moving extremely fast and most people in our tour were unable to follow them with their cameras or phones. Better ask Luis to take some images of you and your family, and when leaving ship, buy his images. The price is very good. Payment for the images in cash, he needs your email address and phone number for sending you the link for download.
Peter H — Google review
Great to see the dolphins! However a bit short (a bit short of 1h in total), and the photos are really not worth it. We paid but did not download any cause we were on none of them (generic photos of the boat with dolphins)

It was wonderful. Luckily other people signed up, they contacted me later to confirm. We drove from Madryn to the departure station in Puerto Rawson, an hour and a quarter of travel to get there. We had a beautiful day. The captain was explaining to us about the boats in the port and about all the fauna there is. We saw 🦆ducks, cormorants, seagulls, sea lions, 🐧penguins hunting, the long-awaited dolphins, which are a type of small 🐬 dolphin, and even whales in the distance! (You can't get close to the whales). We did see many dolphins that followed us on the boat, they are very social and approach and jump the waves left by the boat. Spectacular! Thank you Commersonii Maritime Station!! Fundación Ecocentro is a popular nature center that offers a modern and well-made exhibition on the local coast ecosystem. It was built in 2000 and combines art, education, and science to delve into various natural science topics related to the Patagonian Sea. The center provides simple explanations about local fauna, which can be useful before embarking on excursions to Peninsula Valdes or Punta Tombo.
Very educational exhibits and amazing sensory rooms where you feel you are under water with the whales. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Cost may be a bit much for what there is but it is going towards a good organization.
Chad K — Google review
It is an educational place if you would like to know the ocean ecosystems and lives.
Joe L — Google review
An interesting centre, with an interesting way of portraying whales. However, almost all signage is in Spanish. The centre provides a QR code to access English text and even provides internet in the centre. However, in spite of help from the staff, our connections (on 3 phones) kept dropping and we gave up on getting any English information. Sad, given that there was a lot to understand and that there is a simple low-tech solution—providing a paper copy of the information. They could be plastic-covered sheets that would be returned at the end of the visit.

The most special to me was to see the live animals in the little aquarium they have. The staff that was there to teach us a bit and answer questions about the animals was really good. There was an documentary at 7pm that lasted until 7:40pm - it lacks English subtitles and if you watch it all you might not have time enough to see the museum without hurrying up as the museum closes at 9pm and there are long texts to read and videos to watch. The view from the top and outside are beautiful.

Reserva Lobería de Punta Loma, located approximately 17 km from the city, is a nature reserve known for its sea lion colony and cormorant rookery. Accessible by car, bus, or bicycle, the reserve offers signposted viewpoints where visitors can observe the sea lions on the beach from atop the cliffs. Additionally, it is a nesting site for rock shags and provides breathtaking views of elephant seals at Punta Ninfas.
If you want to see sea lions near Puerto Madryn then this is the right place.Along with the sea lions you can also spot the different flora and fauna of Patagonia. I saw shags , rodents and foxes as well. This place is easily reachable by motorcycle, car or bicycle from the city. For me spotting the Sea lions were magnificent but you need to spend some time here to see other animals .Also be careful of Patagonian winds as this place is on top of a hill so expect wind speed more than usual.
Imrajiv84 — Google review
This place was advertised as the largest colony of sea lions where you could get up close to the animals. Not true; after almost an hour's drive, part of which on an unpaved dirt road, we got to a cove where, deep down there was a small colony of sealions (a scant 50-100) sunbathing. Seen it, done it, not worth repeating
John F — Google review
We got there right before closing so the sun was in our eyes and photographs were near impossible but the sea lions were still amazingly cute to watch. The babies are adorable - watching them bounce in and out of the water. They look like they are having so much fun. It’s close to down - the last few k are gravel roads. Worth going to.
Joel B — Google review
Nice up close view of sea lions on a caleta. Free of charge. Worth a visit if you are in Madryn and have a couple of hours.
Alessandro S — Google review
The zone offers different ways to watch sea wolfs in their natural environment (as it should be) but I would suggest this one as the best because of two reasons: 1. It's close to Madryn city. 2. Great view of the sea wolfs, closest that other places.

Playa El Doradillo is a stunning beach in the Chubut coast, offering unique natural treasures and breathtaking landscapes. It's a paradise where visitors can connect with nature, observe diverse wildlife such as guanacos, foxes, and seabirds, and witness the spectacle of Southern right whales frolicking just meters from the shore between June and October. The beach also provides opportunities for hiking and biking along the coastline.
Wowowowowowow, this place is unreal. Get there 2 hours before high-tide and stay 2 hours after. I cycled here, and no one else was anywhere in sight. Just many many beautiful right whales. 🐋

Perfect place for watching whales! There are hundreds of whales right now. Amazing experience. There is also a cave which you can explore when water is low
Anastasia Z — Google review
Wonderful beach inviting for a nice walk.
Christian P — Google review
Despite what everyone says, this is not the beach that the whales come really close to - that's the next beach down the road, Playa Las Canteras. The bluff between the two beaches also has viewing areas that are debatably just as good, since although you're slightly farther away, you have a nice overhead view. To get to the viewpoints and Playa Las Canteras, the road is gravel, but well-maintained (no 4WD required).

I do not recommend coming to this park in June. We've been traveling for months and this is one of the biggest scams. A real shame. You have to pay before accessing the information center where we learn that you pay an access fee but that they can close the roads. So we paid an exorbitant price for entry to not be able to visit anything, it's just a big joke. the payment point should be well after the crossing point which may be closed because the tourist should be informed beforehand. But obviously it is profitable to charge for access to Puerto Piramides. At the slightest bit of rain everything is closed. I highly recommend taking a whale watching tour in Puerto Madryn and not Puerto Piramides at this time. Because in the end you will pay for an excursion then a rental, then an entrance fee to go to Puerto Piramides, which is ridiculous when the entire park is closed. And the entry money clearly does not go to road maintenance.

Plaza Rivadavia is a charming urban square adorned with monuments that pay tribute to the local history. Over the weekends, it becomes a hub for craft fairs. The plaza exudes elegance and timelessness, evoking nostalgic memories of early morning journeys to school during winter. Although some areas lack sufficient grass due to heavy usage over the years, this seems inevitable and adds character to its overall appeal.
Classy and almost timeless. Plaza Rivadavia brings memories of early morning crossing in the cold of winter to get on time to class at Colégio Nacional. I would love to see more grown grass. I can tell people uses it a lot more that 40 years ago. Maybe that is why has some areas going bold... But who isn't, right? Part of life. Happy to go across it again.

(Translated by Google) The park is very beautiful. Today, June 14, we had a bad experience climbing Cerro Ventana. They estimate the ascent to take only 5 hours, and we had to go down with my family because my wife was going a little slower than the group. She wasn't fatigued at all; she just couldn't go any faster. At the second or third stop, our guide, Lucia, forced us to descend. I understand there are safety issues that the group can't go too late, but we could easily wait for Ivan, at a pace that, even for me, who trains daily, was fast. No one in the group was very fit, unlike my wife, who trains regularly. There were even people over 60 who were smokers. The craziest thing was that they let us climb to a point where a guide wasn't needed, and then they didn't refund us a single cent of the 60,000 we paid between the four of us. Truly shameful, and even more so, they were misinformed about everything. Anyway... I wasn't the only one affected; there were other people with the same issue, even a female Pilates instructor. They're not serious. The rest of the trails for people invalidate how we do very poorly maintained and marked.

I recommend not taking very small children because there are trails where you must be cautious and patient so as not to get hurt by loose stones on the ground. I also recommend not visiting them in summer, at noon because there is not much shadow. (Original) Senderos limpios y fáciles de recorrer. Las vistas son espectaculares. Cerro Ventana

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Cerro Ventana is a stunning hiking destination located just south of Bariloche, along the scenic Ruta 40 and Lago Gutierrez. This mountain is renowned for its unique volcanic rock formations and offers year-round climbing opportunities that cater to both beginners and intermediate climbers. As you ascend, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, lakes, and rivers—truly a feast for the eyes!

(Translated by Google) We arrived around 9 a.m. The entrance fee is 5,000 + the guide 15,000. We had the Russian guy, who was truly phenomenal. He was very friendly, concerned that everyone was doing their best, and the overall treatment was excellent. The difficulty depends on each person's physical condition; I found it easy. The hardest part is the first because the climb is very steep. Up to the fourth, you can turn back alone if you're tired. Bring at least 1.5 liters of water per person and food (fruit, sandwiches, bars, etc.). It's very important to wear appropriate footwear; there are many sections where you walk on stones, and it's very slippery.

(Translated by Google) The place is very nice, but considering the mandatory guided tour, they charge a lot and rush you if you don't go at their very fast pace. You can't even enjoy the scenery for even two minutes, and the climb becomes much more difficult. I don't recommend it because of the service. I saw other people complain about the same guide I had; his name was Nico, so be mindful of who you get. It's a tour that takes approximately 6 hours and requires a fair amount of effort, but it's easily doable (depending on your physical condition). The price is $20,000, which is justified. You have to be there by 9 a.m., which is when the groups form and start heading out. Thanks for a lovely day! (Original) 10 puntos!! Hermosa experiencia. Nuestros guía Damián un 10!! (Translated by Google) The first stretch (from the base to Station 1) is killer. It's a little intimidating, but it gets less steep afterward. At this station, you can choose to get off and continue along the trail to the pools and Forgotten Gorge (we didn't do it, but we were told there was little water). There are 10 stations in total. Up to the 4th, you can descend on your own. If you decide not to continue past the 4th, the whole group will join you, as they can't leave you alone. From Station 5 to Station 8, there are larger rocks that require longer strides. From Station 8 to Station 10, it's peaceful. The views are unparalleled. So it's worth it. The guide "Ruso" was spectacular. I highlight him because half of it was the scenery and the other half was his company and explanations of the area. The entrance fee to the Park was $1,000, and the ascent to the hill was $7,500, per person. We were lucky enough to form a large group of 30 people (out of season, fewer usually go) and saw a Black-backed Eagle, a Guanaco, and other examples of the local fauna and flora. Since we visited the park during Holy Week and there were a lot of people, the groups were quite close together, and we couldn't stay long when we arrived at the Window. We quickly took photos and left. I understand this is so that more people can visit. During peak season, I recommend going very early; the gate opens at 7:30 a.m., but people already gather before then. We went at 7:00 a.m., and there was already a line of cars. Since the capacity is only 300 people, once it's full, it closes. This happened to us the first day we tried, and we were left outside.

(Translated by Google) Very nice place, I would have liked the tasting wines to be more than one, but fine. As other people said, the girl with the guide seemed like she wanted to leave, and explained everything very quickly. It doesn't bother me, because it was well understood. The tour lasts 15-20 minutes. They don't offer any other tastings, such as cheeses or toasts to accompany the wine. The wine itself is too young, and therefore, for someone who really likes wine like me, I found it undrinkable. The white wine is good, the red wine really isn't. It's nice to go for a tour. The woman who helps you in the sales area is very unfriendly and unfriendly. That's a shame, because she's the one who welcomes you and makes you want to leave. It costs $4,000 per person, which is very expensive for what it is. If they gave you more tastings or better service, it might be worth it. (Translated by Google) A very picturesque winery located in the town of Saldungaray. I had the opportunity to go twice, both times for the guided tour and once for the tasting. Regarding the guided tour, they could improve the tour, passing more through the vineyards or the cellar, and not just staying in the part of the tanks. On the other hand, the tasting was divine, with a lot of information and a snack with enough cheese (ideal for vegetarians) and ham to enjoy. The attention was always very friendly. They accept all means of payment and there is a sign to pay with QR. In short, I liked it 🤓! (Translated by Google) Honestly, it is a unique and exceptional square in the entire Argentine Republic. Like the entire municipality, the square has a special "something" that seems taken from a postcard of Europe. The layout of the city is the typical Eastern European postcard. (Translated by Google) Salamone's masterpiece, spectacular and suggestive. There is a giant statue, like in Laprida, and it is of the archangel Michael, threatening with his sword. Salamone was an architect and engineer, but this statue is a cool sculpture, with its wings that seem to defy gravity. Authorship has been attributed to the sculptor Santiago Chierico, who made the Christ of Laprida, but there is darkness about it, as in so many things in the life of Salamone, the great and dark architect. (Translated by Google) Wonderful and unique. It's worth a visit before it disappears. Admiration and sadness are what come over you when you see this work of art in its current state. It's a shame that our country's cultural heritage is so neglected. Salamone's works are literally falling apart. An exceptional monument, worth seeing, one more that, like his other creations, the municipalities are determined to see disappear.

(Translated by Google) Magnificent, majestic, chilling... any description falls short at the entrance to this cemetery. I'll just say one thing: You have to go and admire it, nothing more. Across from the cemetery is an office displaying all of Architect Salamone's work in Azul; a visit is highly recommended.

(Translated by Google) One more of the imposing works of Arch Salamone of the Province of Buenos Aires, this time a large angel armed with a sword guards the entrance to the Municipal cemetery. It is majestic, imposing due to its almost titanic size. It would only need a little more love from the municipal government for the maintenance and enhancement of the work. Likewise, in front there is an interpretation center for the architect's work, which is sadly abandoned.
