Waterfalls
Reached by a hiking trail, this waterfall sits near an ancient lava field & has a viewing platform.
Very short walk to see this beautiful waterfall from the parking lot! You can find tiny wild blueberries along the pathway. Toilets to use are by payment only.

A nice waterfall not far away from the Ring Road. You can park at the golf club and walk a few minutes through a little birch forest to the warerfall. Paid parking!
PdB K — Google review
Beautiful and accessible waterfall on the ring road. It has parking, restrooms facilities and is very easy to reach the waterfall. The parking is a little pricey considering you aren't staying long, but with the app is easy to pay. Nice place to stop if you are doing the ring road.
Rosi G — Google review
So worth it!!! Stunning waterfall very close to other attractions. Really quiet and not as touristy but still a great gravel path and pay washrooms. About a 5 minute walk from parking
Tori S — Google review
It is such a peaceful and relaxing spot. It’s not crowded at all, and the short walk to the falls. We stopped here for a quick tea break 😉 — a perfect little stop during our road trip!
Subhalaxmi M — Google review
Not overly crowded , nice 5min walk to the view point , very pretty
REENA R — Google review
The place is absolutely amazing. The waterfall is only 250 meters away from the parking lot, if you go along the path on your right you'll reach the main view point. There's plenty of walking paths to discover, I'd really recommend to take your time and enjoy this beautiful scenery.
Asia D — Google review
This waterfall is absolutely worth the visit! It’s just an 8-minute walk from the car park, and the view is stunning. However, be prepared—the path was completely covered in ice and extremely slippery, so proper footwear and caution are a must. Parking requires a payment of 1,000 ISK, but we didn’t notice any cameras at the entrance. Despite the icy challenge, reaching the waterfall was an unforgettable experience, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone exploring the area!

Ljómalind Local Market

Shopping
Ljómalind Local Market is a must-visit spot in Borgarnes, Iceland. The market offers an extensive selection of handmade Icelandic souvenirs, including incredible items and gifts crafted with wonderful craftsmanship. Visitors can find a variety of Icelandic sweaters and wool with unique patterns not seen elsewhere in the country. The market also boasts a superb jewelry selection and an impressive range of Lopapeysa (Icelandic traditional 100% wool sweaters) in various designs and sizes.
If you're looking for a place that sells art made by locals this is it!!! One of our favorite stops on our honeymoon. We found a lot gems and the person who worked there was so helpful and lovely, it was a great experience.
Hattie Z — Google review
Nice spot to do some local product shopping. Staff were friendly and you could source anything from a sweater to fish or even jams and other items. Good prices as well.
Jason C — Google review
I am very disappointed with Ljomalind. I have bought things here several times and then I decided that since I sew, I will make some small things to sell here. The staff has always been very friendly and I enjoy coming here. Today that all changed. I went in there with my quilted items to try and sell them. I spoke to S**** and told her who I was and that I had made these items. She immediately wrinkled her nose and said "No." She didn't ask any questions about the items, look through them or anything. She said that she already had too many items in her shop and maybe later. I live locally and have been making quilted items for many, many years. I was very disappointed. I felt she said no because I'm a foreigner and she doesn't know me. I won't set foot in there again.
Deb B — Google review
Do not buy yarn from here. I bought one of the yarn sweater kits for my Grandma (a very experienced knitter) and the yarn was so bad she couldn’t knit with it. It completely fell apart as she tried to knit. She had never seen such a thing before. And it wasn’t cheap either.
Stephanie G — Google review
The person at the store was extremely helpful in providing information and maps to attractions in the NW Iceland region. The store had a great variety of local crafts at reasonable prices. This was a great example of Icelandic hospitality.
Peter P — Google review
The old lady working the counter was either negligent or disingenuous. I think both. She could not offer us the discount mentioned on the door, even after pointing it out. We got billed 2x the amount on my credit card, which she could not reverse either. Ended up receiving cash from her which I didn't get a chance to spend anyway. She did not give an itemized receipt either - I couldn't claim the tax refund. Some competence is expected from a business, however "cottage" it is. My money is not free.
Aysh — Google review
The selection of Lopapeysa (Icelandic traditional 100% wool sweaters) is impressive both in terms of design and in terms of sizes. If you are a tourist you cannot leave Iceland without buying one and I've haven't seen so many of them together before. They are pricey but they last a lifetime and the wool is local. They are very useful in damp and windy weather besides being very stylish in design and nowadays finding 100% wool is difficult. You can also find here some local food and crafts material. The shop is neat with good lighting, well arranged goods and kind service. Worth a stop to browse and support the local community if you're passing by. I bought salad and green tomatoes jam. Both excellent and not dearer than in a supermarket.
Storm T — Google review
Wonderfully situated N1 . I needed some camp gas , and this is my go to shop for this. We also 'needed' more icelandic trinkets for our 2nd visit. Ample parking, even if you don't need fuel in your vehicle you can come inside here and get food (hot fresh cooked, fast food), drinks, snacks, souvenirs, etc. Nice spacious store with the friendliest of staff. A real restful place to visit and recharge for the road ahead.

Safnahús Borgarfjarðar, also known as the Borgarnes Museum, is a cultural gem in Borgarnes that beautifully intertwines art and heritage. The museum offers captivating presentations that bring the Sagas to life and showcases the history of Iceland through the lens of children from 1900 to the present day. Visitors can also admire impressive collections of Icelandic birds and artworks by local artists while enjoying a picturesque view over the sea and mountains.
Excellent small exhibitions of Icelandic birds and everyday items. I can't speak to the quality of the library.
Kevin N — Google review
Great exhibition downstairs and a cozy library with games upstairs.
Naveed I — Google review
I went to the opening of a temporary art show at Safnahúsið. It was a pretty neat little thing. It's great that they give local artists opportunities like this. The museum bit of Safnahúsið was also fun to look at, even if it's only going to take 5 minutes to go through. They have a cozy library, and a fun play area for kids too
Atli G — Google review
A beautiful museum and gallery that shows artworks by local artists as well as exhibitions about Icelandic culture.
Michelle B — Google review
A very interesting museum showing the history of Iceland through the history of children: local items and pictures of Icelandic children and families from 1900 to present showing how time had changed. Also the collection of Icelandic birds was impressive.
Maria K — Google review
My daughter, Heidi, and I were delighted in going through his museum in July of this year...The Sagas brought to life in several, wonderful, presentations... When traveling in Iceland this is one place (of many) you don't want to miss! I was born in Reykjavik and raised pretty much in Vopnafjörður ( and on the Saga's by my grandpa Björn) until age of twenty, when I married and left my beloved country...so the Safnahús Borgarfjarðar was a very special treat for me :-)
Ieda H — Google review
Excellent photo and object exhibit covering Iceland's last 100 years. Incredible to see the changes in such a short time.

Located in Borgarnes, The Settlement Center is a must-visit museum that provides captivating insights into Icelandic settlement history and the Saga era. Divided into two exhibitions, the Settlement Exhibition covers Iceland's discovery and settlement, while the Egil's Saga Exhibition recounts the remarkable adventures of Egil Skallagrimsson and his family. Visitors can enjoy a detailed multilingual audio guide during their visit.
Very very cool museum. The audio tour is extremely informative and detailed. There are 2 separate sections you go in. The art and interactive machines used were well made and were a great addition to the audio . The stories were very interesting and I found myself wanting to learn more about the sagas
Kyasia J — Google review
Interesting and well-presented exhibits about Iceland’s early settlers and Egill’s saga. The audio guide was helpful and easy to follow. A bit pricey for the size, but still worth a visit if you’re in Borgarnes.
Benz — Google review
We came for the museum and were delighted by the cafe. The museum has an extraordinarily well-designed and thoughtfully crafted series of exhibits on the Settlement period. Auido guide was pefectly integrated with each room and exhibit and wa just right - not too much or too little. The cafe has a large and delicious buffet. Also, excellent coffee and desserts. When we asked about the buffet were were treated to an amazing summary of each dish by one of the staff who was incredibly knowledgable and articulate. She could have made a video of her presentation to entice visitors and they would not be disappointed. If you go nowhere else in town, this is the place to spend time.
James W — Google review
The Settlement Center is where Viking history meets quirky charm. The audio tour is unexpectedly fun, and the wax figures don't blink—promise! Great storytelling, cool exhibits, and a lovely café to top it off. Even Odin would approve.
Don C — Google review
Awesome museum - the best and most detailed explanation of icelandic settlement you can get. They're open until 9pm! And the food is top notch too.
Janina C — Google review
Highly recommend! The self guided audio tour is a great way to learn about early Icelandic settlers, and then top it off with a story about Egils Saga. The gift shop is expansive, and ever though it feels like a tourist trap here, I never felt rushed or crowded. Had the tour all to ourselves. Top this off with a stop in Reykholt to really deep dive into some cool history.
Kurt R — Google review
We stayed on Borgarnes overnight on a couple of days where the weather was unkind. Stuck for something to do we visited The Settlement Center and had a great afternoon there. A great venue, interesting, informative and well presented. Actually would have been worth a detour.
Andrew W — Google review
The Settlement Center was a wonderful stop on our way north from Reykjavik to Akureyri along the Ring Road. We got there shortly after it opened on a weekday which was good because a large bus tour arrived around noon and inundated the place! There are two audio tours, and you should definitely do both, but the absolute highlight is the Egils Saga exhibit. What a wonderful surprise! We were immersed in the story by the most beautiful artwork throughout. It left me feeling a very strong fascination for and connection to this island and its people. Fabulous gift shop too. I’m so glad we came and highly recommend it to everyone.

Borgarnes Outdoor Swimming Pool, also known as Sundlaug Borgarnesi, is a leisure complex offering a quintessentially Icelandic pool experience. The facility features a 25-meter outdoor pool with stunning views of Borgarfjordhur, an indoor pool, several hot pots, steam saunas, a children's pool, and three water slides suitable for all ages.
Great place to have a relaxing day in the hot tubs and steam batch with a bit of fun with the water slides. The entry price is cheap and you get relaxation of what you would get from a fancy expensive thermal batch. Highly recommend for anyone travelling around the region.
Nikhil P — Google review
Great public pool around $12 to get into per person. Bring your own towel. Heated indoor and outdoor pools. 3 hot tubs and a pool slides for the family. Worth it after a long day of hiking.
Daniel Q — Google review
25m pool, 2 hot baths. The third one (and the sauna) weren't open. I was there on a saturday afternoon and were max a dozen in the whole place, so I had a lane all for myself. However the place is run down & not always clean.
Aurélien M — Google review
Great place with both indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, cold plunge and 3 different sized slides. The steam room is also heated from natural geothermal.
Emma P — Google review
Good local pool at reasonable price. 900 per adult and they rent towels if you don't bring any. Make sure you shower well before you head in. They have a couple jacuzzi pools with different temperatures, pretty cool.
Anton — Google review
Great place for small children and adultsas well. Don't forget to follow the local way, i. e. shower without your bathing suit before entering the pools.
Tati V — Google review
A quintessentially Icelandic pool experience. Three large hot tubs of various temperatures, a heated pool with lanes for swimming, three different sized water slides for kids of all sizes and ages, a steam bath, and even a tub of cold water if you like to torture yourself like me. All for around $9 USD as of April 2023. Tourists be aware that you are expected to shower fully nude and thoroughly, and there are no partitions, so expect to be naked around others. This is totally normal for Icelanders and only as awkward as you make it.
Steve N — Google review
A perfect place to relax and chat with Icelandic people. It has one outdoor swimming pool, one indoor pool, and three hot pools with a temperature of around 37 degrees Celsius. And that's only for 1250

Akranes Folk Museum is a must-visit attraction in the charming small town of Akranes, which is a popular detour for those exploring the west coast of Iceland. The museum offers a glimpse into local history and culture, with well-preserved houses open to visitors, including the first concrete house in Iceland and the oldest preserved timber house in the area.
This was a very cool self guided tour with an easy to use audio device. The staff is so nice and courteous. The three houses on the hill are also very neat to look around.
Tanya — Google review
A cute museum with many artefacts from the area (and Iceland). Audio guide was easy to use. The art exhibit was so cool to see. Really enjoyed going into the houses outside to see what living in Iceland in late 1800s/early 1900s was like.
Vicki S — Google review
Tickets are pretty cheap, for an adult its 1000kr. The Museum is the type that you can go around in like 30 min or so but also u can spend there few hours, it all depends on how much you wanna experience it. You can see really old things as well as more up to date ones. And what fascinated me, there were maaaaaaaany things that u can touch. At the very first area there was a fisherman cloth "to try" as it was written. I tried and I had so much fun trying to take it off afterwards that I could barely breath haha. Also the staff man was really friendly, helpful and just a good guy! Aaaand you will get the device to play on each "station" in the museum so u can listen (in English) and learn a lot more! Definitely worth seeing! The parking is free.
Anna R — Google review
Incredible museum with such a breadth of historic items. They've done a wonderful job of recreating period interiors in two of their houses, and the main museum has so many interesting bits from local history, including fishing equipment, boats, musical instruments, clothing, and calculating machines. There are several displays set up almost like traditional workshops for sewing, blacksmithing, woodworking, and more. The museum is under renovation so much of it was closed when we went, and I imagine there are many more wonderful things that will be on display when it is finished. Hopefully they may also be adding a bit more information in English (most labels are only in Icelandic). They also have free kleinur (Icelandic donuts) and coffee, and the admission fee is quite reasonable.
Nate G — Google review
A small but very fascinating and historical museum. I especially recommend it for familys.
Ramunė J — Google review
Mostly close when I was there, interesting Irish connection to the town founding. Some good stories to give you a flavor of life way back when.

Great museum with fun audio guide devices and friendly people. The entrance is on the lower level in between the pillars. Spent about 2 hours and loved it. There is also coffee
Tyler W — Google review
Amazingly well thought out and extremely detailed especially for a museum in a town the size of Akranes. The staff was also some of the best I encountered anywhere in Iceland. The woman at the front offered us some home made cookies which she had made and coffee free of charge. Highly recommend.

Fantastic place with steampunk character. Great coffee. Owner is super nice person. There are offers for coffee refill and VIP cards for frequent visitors. You can meet here locals, foreigners, travellers. They have live music gigs and the furniture is very unique. Place is not too pricey and the atmosphere is amazing. Cozy with retro style music and museum at the entrance. It's something you shouldn't miss while visiting Akranes.

This is a great place to meet locals, foreigners, and anyone who loves to chat. Whether you want to dive into some steam punk culture, or just want a pint of some solid local-brewed beer, this is the place to go. The bartender and owner is a great person with a wealth of local, Icelandic knowledge and culture, but also worldly intelligent and just fun to switch between languages and topics. If you’re anywhere on the west coast, including Reykjavík, this is the place to go!
Aaron H — Google review
Iceland's only steampunk shop imagines a retro-futuristic world that never was. Dularfulla Búðin in Akranes, Iceland translates to “The Mysterious Shop.” The establishment offers light meals, traditional Icelandic food, and local beers, but that isn’t what makes it stand out. The building also houses a small steampunk science fiction center, the only one of its kind in Iceland.
Ingimar O — Google review
Easily my favorite place in Akranes! A true gem, by any measure. Always a great place to stop in for a drink of any sort and some lovely conversation. Not to be missed!!!

Akranesviti, the stunning lighthouse located on the picturesque Akranes coast, is a must-visit for anyone exploring Iceland's western shores. This impressive structure not only offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding mountains but also invites visitors to experience its remarkable acoustics. For a small entry fee, you can ascend to the top and enjoy panoramic vistas while engaging in some fun with sound—singing or playing music inside creates an incredible echo that adds a unique twist to your visit!
Lighthouses have something special… and in this place you can enjoy two lighthouses! There is a parking lot, and a tourist info point - closed in autumn winter.
Connection E — Google review
Wonderful place to visit with incredible views if you climb to the top! Highly recommend you make this part of your journey.
Benjamin B — Google review
Accidentally ended up here. We were staying in Reykjavik and just decided to drive up the west coast with no destination. Arrived at this charming town. The light house was an added bonus. Bjorn at the lighthouse was so engaging! We talked food, music, the USA and Iceland. Just a great little place to visit
Amy J — Google review
Love to stop and visit lighthouses. Nice being able to see two at one time. Fun walking out to the oldest one. We were able to climb up the newer one. Great views from the top.
Cindy H — Google review
If you are like me always on the hunt for a a scenic and cultural destinations, you should not miss the two lighthouses at Akranes. Located in the west coast of the country and only about an hour drive from Reykjavík, Akranes is a charming little town. The two lighthouses are the most iconic landmarks of the town, and they offer a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding mountains. The older lighthouse was built in 1918 and is 10.7 meters high. The newer one was built in 1943-1944 and is 19.3 meters high. It was first used in 1947 and is still operational today. The two lighthouses (there is actually a third one close by) are a very popular tourist attraction, especially for photographers and nature lovers. They are very picturesque and create a striking contrast with the sky and the sea. No matter the season or the weather, they are always beautiful to behold. You can capture amazing photos of the lighthouses at different times of the day, from sunrise to sunset, and even at night when they are illuminated. The larger lighthouse is open to the public and also used for art shows and music performances. You can climb up the spiral staircase and enjoy the panoramic view from the top. The lighthouse hosts various events throughout the year, such as exhibitions, concerts, festivals, and workshops. I highly recommend this place for just about everyone. It's going to be a truly memorable part of your trip.
Sigurdur J — Google review
This in one of a few lighthouses you can go into in Iceland. You can view the lighthouses from the ground for free, or pay a small fee to go inside the large one. I highly recommend paying the small fee so you can look inside and even go to the top. The fee supports the lighthouse upkeep and you will meet Hilmar, who was the one that opened it to the public. He can tell you anything you want to know about it and greets you with a warm welcome. The lighthouse has amazing acoustics and many musicians have played inside just for that attribute. Although the top entrance is a little sketchy, don’t let that sway you from going up to get a 360 degree view of the area. We did it on a very windy day and it was still amazing. The other, smaller lighthouse you can get to by walking on the rocks, but you cannot enter that one. The overall experience was well worth the detour. Keep in mind the hours to get inside, as it is not open on the weekends. It was great chatting with Hilmar and hope that Sigur Ros plays inside your lighthouse one day!
IDGAXJ O — Google review
Very nice little lighthouse that you can go up to the very top. Check the opening time before going there. We were lucky to talked with Hilmar who is really passionates about it. You can try to echo and sing into it, the acoustic is really good. You have a small exhibition at the entrance about the lighthouse story. You can also have other exhibitions, on the upper floors. You have to pay a small fee of 300isk at the black small house before the lighthouse.
Lau A — Google review
The admission to go up the lighthouse is 300ISK, very little. You can get a nice view of the surroundings and there are a few boards that detail the history of the lighthouse.

The Old Akranes Lighthouse is a charming destination throughout the year. In winter, it offers a chance to witness the mesmerizing northern lights, while in summer, locals enjoy picnics around the lighthouse. Situated just a 45-minute drive from Reykjavik, this historic hamlet was founded in the 9th century and has retained its serene atmosphere for centuries.
Well worth a visit - even just to take photos as the views are stunning . It was very quiet on a snowy January morning. But interesting history and nice visitors centre with toilets nearby.

I recommend visiting that lighthouse if you're in Akranes, unfortunatelly during strong wind I couldn't go on the top, but inside you can grab free map and outside on the seaside view is so nice.

My family and I (2 Adults & one 3 year old) visited this lovely little lighthouse in Arkranes. The guide in the Information Center was very welcoming and polite, and spoke very good English. After paying for the entrance, which is very reasonable since you can reach the very top of the lighthouse to have amazing views of the surroundings. We would definitely recommend coming to see this lighthouse. Especially if you're into singing and require a place that has amazing acoustics. The bathrooms available next to the Information Center are also very clean and presentable. Takk Fyrir (thank you!)

Two well preserved lighthouses with great views all around. Definitely climb to the top of the newer lighthouse, singing while you go (great acoustics). Very nice restrooms available. Plenty of parking. Small visitor center with historical information.

Not much to see, except two lighthouses. Both the visitor center and bathrooms were closed on Saturday, minor inconvenience.

A visit to Akranes Lighthouse is an unforgettable experience that beautifully combines natural beauty, historical significance, and serene surroundings. Located on the west coast of Iceland, this iconic lighthouse offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore one of the country's most picturesque and tranquil spots. The lighthouse itself is a stunning piece of architecture, standing tall and proud against the backdrop of the sea. Its white structure is striking against the rugged coastline, making it a perfect subject for photography enthusiasts. The climb to the top is well worth the effort, as it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean, nearby mountains, and the charming town of Akranes. Inside, the lighthouse houses a small but informative exhibit detailing its history and the role it has played in guiding sailors safely to shore. The displays are well-curated and provide fascinating insights into the maritime heritage of the region. Akranes Lighthouse is a must-visit for anyone traveling through Iceland. Its combination of historical charm, stunning views, and peaceful surroundings make it a standout destination. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or simply looking for a serene spot to unwind, Akranes Lighthouse will not disappoint.

Siggi, Olaf, and family are wonderful hosts. The house is clean and comfortable with beautiful views, and tasty home cooked dinners. They are very helpful with dietary restrictions and had wonderful options for gluten free and vegetarians. They also have Icelandic horses, and border collies. The house was full for our visit so call ahead.

Nestled in the heart of Iceland, Gerðuberg Cliffs is a breathtaking natural wonder that captivates visitors with its striking black lava-rock columns. These impressive formations, some soaring up to 14 meters high, create a stunning geometric wall that stretches for about 500 meters. As you approach this protected nature reserve, you'll be greeted by an awe-inspiring landscape that's perfect for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
I adored this place. It was desert when we arrived. You can get to this place with a 2 mins drive on a dirt road (plenty of potholes) but overall it is easily reachable. The cliffs are awesome, you can even easily climb the cliffs to have an amazing view! Parking is free.
Michele C — Google review
This is worth stopping at as you pass through. There is a gravel road off the main road, but easily done in a standard car. The cliff/rock shapes are really different and unusual. This is a pretty quick stop and you can drive up to close to the cliff face and then explore from there. There is also a cute little church nearby too. Free to see.
Emily K — Google review
Lovely basalt columns with beautiful views of the expansive area including the mountains. Short climb up either on the steeper middle path or the less steep path on the left. It is a short stop. Use the main road and drive up the gravel path for 3 minutes rather than the 31minutes north then south again!
Travelling D — Google review
There’s something humbling about standing before a landscape shaped by fire, ice, and time. The Gerðuberg cliffs rise like ancient sentinels—perfectly stacked basalt columns etched into the Icelandic earth. Stark, wild, and impossibly beautiful. “There is a rare and reverent beauty in places left wild—where nature speaks in silence, and the earth remembers how to breathe without us.” Short gravel road. Free to visit.
Chris O — Google review
One of the best places I’ve ever seen! It has small hills, but the view was amazing.
Akshay H — Google review
The cliff wall is beautiful this time of year (Sept) with the fall colors popping out. Worth a stop and exploring along the wall.

Beautiful colonnade of basalt columns. Easy hike to the top for a good view. Lots of cairns on the plateau at the top!
Steve K — Google review
It is a not populated area, they are small compared to other ones you may find, but they are nice for photos as you do not have to fight for a clear space with no people around, you can climb up and a nice panorama will show, which is perfect for a sunny evening There is a church nearby that you can check out, it is closed, but there are many sheep around that you can take photos of

Steeped in folklore & mythology, this small mountain boasts aerial views & a temple honoring Thor.
Lovely place for a short hike. It is a sacred mountain and folklore has it that you will be granted three wishes if you completed the hike without looking back, and without talking. We got lost for a little bit as the footpath was covered in snow and ice, but the loveliest dog showed us the way. We played fetch with it and it is a very good boy. Would recommend this hike just so the dog has playmates

It is a nice spot, you have a 10-15 min climb to the top of this small mountain. Once at the top you will have great views. It costs 400ISK, which it may not be worth it to many people since you can also have great views from other places for free.

Perched on a precipice, Stykkishólmskirkja Church is a striking piece of modern architecture that captivates visitors with its futuristic design. Its triangular shape and sleek interior with red and brown wood accents create an awe-inspiring space. The church's unique appearance has drawn comparisons to something out of a sci-fi movie or an alien spaceship, making it a standout attraction in Iceland.
Similar to other modernist churches in Iceland, the church in Stykkishólmur draws inspiration from nature in its architectural design. In its case, the design evokes the the sun behind a glacier especially since the church is perched off a hill. The interior features hundreds of suspended lights and a local painting of the Holy Virgin Mary. Well worth a visit.
Taha Z — Google review
Interesting exterior. Many of the churches I saw on this cruise and my port visits were of a more unique non traditional nature. rounder. Nice interior. I especially like the almost neon blue glow from the picture of Mother Mary. Good views from the outside of the surrounding neighborhood, harbor, and so on.

The church is located on top of a small hill. Interesting facade. Modern and non-traditional looking. The furnishing inside was simple and clean
CK C — Google review
Unique church on a cliff with a beautiful view - a pity the tranquility was spoiled by heavy machinery in the area, as I'm noticing more throughout Iceland this year than previously. So I didn't stay to go inside the church and came back later in the evening, which I recommend if you want to get a more relaxing experience.

Seatours, located in Stykkisholmur, Iceland, offers a unique experience of sailing around the town's coast and taking the sushi tour to taste freshly caught tartare on board while bird watching. As the sole ferry operator between Stykkisholmur and Brjanslaekur, Seatours provides ample space for around 20 cars on its deck. Despite the notorious nature of the north Atlantic, passengers can enjoy some sights not typically seen when touring by car.
We booked the Viking Sushi Tour on the SEATOURS EIMSKIP website, which cost ISK 9500 per person for a 2-hour trip. The boat sailed around Breiðafjörður’s numerous islands, where we saw variegated rock faces and areas of historical interest. The highlight of the tour was towing the dredge along the ocean floor, scooping up various kinds of shellfish: scallops, sea urchins, crabs, starfish, etc. The tour included a taste of scallops and sea urchins. It was a unique and fun experience.

Apart from sightseeing, they offer the ferry service to Westfjords, with a possible Flatey island stop. Children below 12 ride for free, the service saves you a lot of driving, definitely recommend at least one way. Great communication, if booking online, stop by the office before driving to the port to pick up a paper voucher for boarding, a 1minute deal. The ferry has a children playcorner, cpffee bar, enough seating over 2 decks.

Súgandisey Island Lighthouse offers a pleasant stroll from the harbor with stunning views of Stykkisholmur and its surroundings. It's a great spot for watching sunsets, although it can get quite windy. The lighthouse provides an awesome lookout point where you can see the entire town and surrounding area on clear days. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions like Drapuhlidharfjall, making it a perfect destination for nature enthusiasts.
If you are scrolling my reviews you will notice a common theme...I love lighthouses! Whenever I travel I do my best to add more to my visited list. This one is a cute little spark plug like style set up on a bluff point. It was windy as heck the day we visited and being up there, I cant even begin to imagine the abuse this little light suffers during winter storms. Its amazing that its still standing as a beacon for mariners after all these years. Pretty spot, free parking, and quick visit. Can be done in 20 minutes or so.

This was a cute small lighthouse with a short staircase walk up to it. Very windy! Bring your coats! I’d recommend (if you can handle the walk) to park a few min down in the free parking and get your steps in. Beautiful walk along the water seeing the boats and nice house. What a cute seaside town.
Savannah S — Google review
A lighthouse on top of a hill that protects the harbor. You can park your car near the stairs that lead up to the lighthouse. Do be careful not to park right by the stairs themselves, as that is for the ferry staff, and you must pay during the summer months. Once you are up there, you can walk around the hilltop, giving you various views. Be cautious when it is very windy.
C E — Google review
The lighthouse is quite basic but you can easily see inside. It's like a mini museum. The views across the fjord are excellent.

The Volcano Museum is a small yet well-organized space that houses an impressive collection of artwork, artifacts, and rocks related to volcanoes from around the world. The exhibits are logically arranged and not overwhelming, making it a comfortable and accessible place to explore. Visitors can expect informative tours from passionate guides who provide live information on recent volcanic events in Iceland. The museum also offers hands-on experiences with rock samples and historical art depicting volcanoes.
We were given an extremely informative tour. The guide was a graduate student who was very passionate about the subject. She imparted a lot of information about volcano in general and the museum in specific. The museum has a lot of art featuring valcano. The movies are a nice extra. Note it is a small museum.
M M — Google review
I've travelled quite a bit, and I always enjoy museams. Having said that, this is the most boring museum I've been to. The exhibits are uninteresting - mainly a collection of paintings, pictures etc. Of volcanos labeled as "lava art". None of it particularly interesting or exceptional, in form or in execution. The most interesting exhibit is a collection of lava rocks from around the world - if you find a table strewn with boring rocks and boulders interesting. The entrance fee is 1300 kr - approximately 10 USD for adults. Not worth it, but if you get the same museum employee I got, you won't even have to pay. Good consolation! I observed said attendant who was disinterested in who was streaming in and out of the museam, and spent the entire time I was visiting on the phone. Tourists just casually walked in and out. No one paid. There's interesting, fun and exciting things to do in stykissholmur. Visiting this museum isn't one of them.
Arman H — Google review
This was a really great stop! The front desk lady (German geologist) was very friendly and took us on a tour. It was great and she was very knowledgeable! She was able to answer our questions and it was a very cool museum. I loved touching all the samples of Iceland’s rocks!
Madison R — Google review
Great museum! The German geologist, working there, is very informational and knows a lot about the volcanology of Iceland as well as other places as well! The museum also features art work of volcanoes, which I thought was really cool.
Chris M — Google review
This museum packs a LOT into a small, well-planned space. It does not feel crowded or overwhelming. Some of the artwork would stand out in a major museum - what a treat to find it comfortably at home and accessible in this sweet space. The rocks and artefacts are arranged logically, not in a stuffy manner. This little museum is worth a detour. I would love to have spent more time here!
CeeLee A — Google review
Fantastic! The fellow working when i visited gave lots of information, showing live information of recent events in Iceland. Museum has a lot of hands-on rock samples of various things, and the walls are lined with historical art of volcanoes from around the world. Small size makes it easy to see as a stop before/after lunch in town. 10/10.
Gwynn — Google review
Great Museum!! Amazing collection of art, objects and stones relating to volcano's from around the world. The collection belongs to a local volcanologist. Vatnasafn, formerly a local library, has been transformed into a place of tranquility and contemplation. As part of an art project, the empty rooms are now adorned with 20 floor-to-ceiling glass columns filled with water from various Icelandic glaciers. Visitors can admire the reflections of the harbor, sea, and themselves in these columns.
Contemplative echoing exhibition space with great views of the town. The cylinders of water... well they're just cylinders of water. You have to buy tickets in the Norway House a street away.

Ete — Google review
We found ourselves alone in the Library of Water, and it was really special. The building, once a library, now holds columns of water collected from glaciers across the country, and the light, the material, everything just slows you down, in the very best way. Being there by yourself, looking out over the town and the sea beyond, you get this rare sense of being quietly apart from the rush of tourism. The everyday life of the town continues outside the windows — boats on the water, people moving about, the changing sky — and you’re set in a space that allows you to observe it all with calm. Inside, the atmosphere is intimate, reflective. You feel like you can just sit and be. The weather, the water, the light all seem to participate in the installation. In short: this was one of those experiences where the place opens up around you. If you’re in Iceland and want something quietly powerful, go there.

Ölkelduvatn Mineral Spring

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is so cool, it's nothing more than little pipe sticking out of the ground, but that very pure clean natural mineral spring water is naturally carbonated! And it's not like a commercially carbonated drink from a bottle or a can, the carbonation is much finer, much more delicate, difficult to describe, it makes the carbonation in champagne seem positively obtuse. There's also a little free will donation box at the site; seems reasonable as the people who own the spring have to do some level of maintenance on it.
Paul P — Google review
Interesting place and interesting water. The water had some carbonation, and high iron content. It was transparent at the beginning but was turned yellow after few hours in the bottle and tasted worse.
Hemant P — Google review
Good place to stop if your are nearby or on the way to other destination. Water taste metallic and thete is a chart of minerals explained at the free parking spot (there is a donation sign of 300isk)
André R — Google review
It was actually sparkling water bubbling out of the ground. I enjoyed drinking the cold bubbly water. The family not so much.
Rebecca M — Google review
What fun. It truly is mineral water with a sparkling element. Tastes of iron and flat seltzer. Donation box for cash on site. Quick roadside attraction. Funky to see the bubbling cold water near the spigot.
Jason C — Google review
Try Icelandic spring water naturally carbonated by volcanic activity. Spectacular taste, slight iron and mineral water taste. Picky people need not apply.
Alex L — Google review
I would definitely include this in your stops if you are driving the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. It is not far off the road. We didn’t care for the taste maybe it needs to be an acquired taste. To me it was like carbonated water that tasted metallic and left an after taste but I was happy to have tried it. It is a natural underground mineral carbonate water. You can park free; right in front there is a sign explaining the contents and you can easily fill your all your water bottles. They ask for a small donation to be placed in a box.
Maria P — Google review
100% safe to drink! The taste of the water coming out of this spring via the tap is very unique. It feels a little like sparkling water (probably because there is a lot of bicarbonate in the water's composition). But it is not as strong as sparkling water. The taste is also slightly metallic but we loved it! The water is supposedly full of nutrients and is rich in iron, calcium, magnesium, and other nutrients. You won't get sick or die from drinking it. It is very safe. We regret not having filled more than one bottle with this water. Go for it!!

Thanks for the great tour. Great bus driver and host. Very knowledgeable commentary. I booked directly with them. So easy to deal with. Highly recommend

Lovely day exploring Snaefellsnes Peninsular from Grundarfjordur where our cruise ship stopped. Wonderful guide who did a fabulous job. We were a bit disappointed that we were in a huge bus rather than a small tour which we prefer. However, beggars can’t be choosers. Sights were wonderful, the day well paced with a stop for lunch. Price was excellent for a 5 hour tour, US$100/€100 or 1500 DKK PP. We would highly recommend this tour especially if you’re looking for a cruise ship tour.

An excellent tour around the area, covering waterfalls, glaciers, the famous spot where two tectonic plates meet and a lighthouse. Very informative guide who spoke fluent English and allowed sufficient time to explore each stop. Trip did not include food but stops included a shop and coffee stops. Tip: when you stop, aim to visit toilets first (!) as queues get long

Vestur Adventures offers a variety of outdoor experiences in Iceland. One option is a fishing excursion with Gardar, where you can learn about the local area and catch fish in the pleasant and calm bay, surrounded by mountains and glaciers. Another adventure involves kayaking to see iconic Icelandic sights like Kirkjufell without the crowds, while learning about wildlife and even tasting sea truffles with knowledgeable guides like Katie. The kayak tours are highly recommended for their gentle pace, safety, and stunning views.
Wonderful adventure! Greg was an excellent guide, and told us stories of Iceland, while we kayaked in the ocean near Mt Kirkjufell. An unforgettable experience, and fantastic photos!

An absolutely fantastic kayaking tour with Reda and Greg! From the beginning, we felt safe and well taken care of – even as beginners. They gave clear instructions, shared fascinating stories, and kept the mood light with great humor and energy. The scenery was insanely beautiful, and the cookies and hot chocolate at the end were the perfect finishing touch. We were laughing all the way back to the car afterwards – that says it all. Highly recommended!

We had the most amazing and magical experience kayaking at midnight near Kirkjufell Mountain. My husband and I highly recommend this tour as it was such a picturesque place to kayak and enjoy so much nature. We saw seals and visited a small island. We learned a lot about the area from our guides. I have no experience with kayaking and I’m a 61 year woman who was a bit slow paddling but I felt very comfortable as one of the guides. Reda, made sure to stay near me. It gave me all the confidence I needed to complete the journey. You will love this tour!

We had a great kayak tour with our two tour guides. It was enough time to enjoy the nature/landscape in the fjord. In a small group we spent about an hour on the water and were able to talk in the group and with the guides, as well as learn new things about Iceland and the people there or ask some questions. The cookies and hot chocolate afterwards were a great bonus 😌 A really great trip that we recommend to everyone.

One of the most unforgettable experiences we had in Iceland! The kayaking tour with Vestur Adventures was simply magical. Our guide, Greg, was not only incredibly knowledgeable sharing fascinating stories and facts about Iceland and the peninsula, but also made the whole experience engaging and fun from start to finish. Paddling surrounded by such breathtaking landscapes felt surreal, and Greg’s passion for what he does made it even more special. We left with our hearts full, our cameras full of photos and videos, and the certainty that we’ll be recommending this experience to everyone!

Loved this place!! First of all, it was the only affordable fishing experience I could find in Iceland. Second, our guide was such a nice Icelandic man who works as a commercial fisherman. My 16 year old son is obsessed with fishing, so for him it was like meeting a celebrity. The view is unbeatable and even I managed to catch a fish. My son caught ten but he is quite good at fishing. Kayaking back to shore was rough because it was a windy day but I felt like a Viking rowing a ship, haha. The guide was really helpful and easy to talk to, and kept checking to see if I needed help. Also, they had really good cookies at the end. 10/10!
Susie C — Google review
We had an awesome time on our kayak tour! Our guide Reda was a WONDERFUL guide, and he made it into such an amazing experience, especially with one member of our group being a first-time kayaker. Kayaking is definitely a bit of a arm work out, so I do recommend stretching beforehand! When we visit Iceland again someday, we will definitely be stopping by for another adventure!

Mountains
Kirkjufell, standing at 463m above sea level, is a distinctive cylindrical-shaped mountain in Iceland's Westfjords region. It is renowned as one of the most photographed spots in Iceland and has gained popularity through its appearances in Game of Thrones. The mountain is a favorite among photographers and nature enthusiasts due to its symmetrical cone shape and the stunning landscapes surrounding it. Kirkjufell is also known for being an ideal spot for witnessing the northern lights.
Extremely wonderful waterfall and mountain. It’s a peaceful and calm place. I highly recommend you bring a tripod and to go there during sundown/sunrise
Tilda E — Google review
Beautiful mountain! We climbed it after the rain, and the rocks were quite slippery. The exposure is significant – definitely for those who are not afraid of heights. The climb felt dangerous at times, but there are three ropes installed to help at the most difficult sections. I would not recommend it for people without prior hiking experience. The round trip took us about 2.5 hours, including plenty of photo stops along the way.
Jakub J — Google review
Kirkjufell is truly an iconic landmark with breathtaking scenery and definitely worth a visit. However, when we went, there was construction work going on, so it wasn’t possible to walk to the other side of the waterfall, which was a bit of a pity. Hopefully next time we can enjoy the full experience.
Can Z — Google review
Famous Instagram photo spot. Due to construction/repairs you must park closer to town and take the long path to get the famous picture. The parking lot close to the falls is on the wrong side if you want the falls in the foreground with Kirkjufell in the background. (You can get both the falls and Kirkjufell in the frame if you use panorama mode on your phone.). Still a great spot to get pictures of this impressive peak.
Jay B — Google review
The most picturesque mountain in Iceland. Not only the iconic mountain, but also you can see a bunch of other wonderful mountains nearby on the way.
Sedam P — Google review
Kirkjufell is stunning and truly iconic. You can park for free next to the paid parking. The hike is closed from September 1 to June 15, but the view, especially with the waterfalls, is absolutely worth the stop!
Jana S — Google review
There must be a reason why this place chosen as one of the wallpapers on everyone's desktop. It is iconic & absolutely mind-blowing. Remember to pay the parking before you leave - it is important to upkeep the trails & surrounding though it is expensive (~10usd).
Pei — Google review
Very nice peculiarly shaped mountain with many vantage points (Kirkjufellsfoss, Kirkjufell Viewpoint in Grundarfjörður, Grundarfoss) from which to appreciate!

Waterfalls
Kirkjufellsfoss is a stunning waterfall that has become a must-visit destination for photographers and nature lovers alike. Nestled near the iconic Kirkjufell mountain, this picturesque spot offers breathtaking panoramic views that are simply irresistible. The combination of the cascading water and the uniquely shaped peak creates an enchanting scene, perfect for capturing memorable photos. Visitors can easily access both the waterfall and the mountain without any entrance fees, although parking does come with a cost.
Stopped here May 14 around 6pm - still fairly busy at this time of day, & parking was roughly $10 CAD. (There’s def a free parking lot just down slightly if you don’t want to pay). Great photo ops, esp. if you’re a game of thrones fan. Small walk from the parking lot across a bridge and down to the bottom of the waterfalls. Not many other places to walk around here as it’s mostly roped off for private property.
Jen W — Google review
Was lucky enough to see the northern lights here at the end of August this time! Had the entire spot to myself to watch the show! Stayed at the hotel nearby so it was easy to get there. Over 6 trips to Iceland, this moment is in my top 5 experiences!
Mary W — Google review
A beautiful and rather underrated waterfall on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. What makes Selvallafoss special is that you can walk behind the curtain of water, which gives it a completely different and fun perspective — and some great photo opportunities. From certain angles, the waterfall can be photographed with the famous ‘Arrowhead Mountain’ from Game of Thrones in the background — a nice bonus for fans of the show. It’s easy to reach by car with just a short walk from the parking area. When we visited, there were very few people around, which made it feel peaceful and a bit like a hidden gem compared to the more popular waterfalls in Iceland. Definitely worth a stop if you’re exploring the peninsula — especially for waterfall lovers and GoT fans.
Damian K — Google review
Nice waterfall, but nothing too spectacular. There are better ones on the way there. A bit more hidden without payed parking. The bridge to the other side was closed, so it was only the side of the parking lot open.

Lovely waterfall overlooking majestic Kirkjufell which was one of the biggest highlight of Peninsula Snæfellsnes. This was by far the busiest place on the peninsula but it was well worth it. I would have loved to visit the vantage point overlooking both the waterfall and mountain but it was not possible when visiting from the parking lots sides. The downside were the maintenance works that were being done which were unluckily ruining the photos and made it impossible to visit around the waterfall itself.
Kristian C — Google review
Beautifull falls, but if you're hoping for the iconic waterfall with mountain backdrop you'll be disappointed. Currently having works done on the bridge, so you can't get over there for that shot. Pay for parking when you leave. Couldn't find where to pay by using the qr code, but easy enough to tap your phone and pay. The parking app isn't Parka for this one.
Karen J — Google review
Wow! Epic and beautiful, I am so happy we came to this area to view the falls and Mountain! The moody sky added to how impressive the view was from where we stood. Parking is right off the road, very easy to get to!
Jessica — Google review
Beautiful mountain. Apparently this is a famous place for GOT fans. Sadly, the road to go to the viewpoint and see the waterfalls with the mountain together was closed for repairs.

Búðakirkja

Church
Sights & Landmarks
Tiny wooden church dating back to the 19th century in a scenic natural area with a lava field.
Absolutely one of the most idealistic places! Beautiful old historic church, with the most gorgeous surrounding scenery. Almost too perfect... it's exactly as pictured in so many Photos. Off the bucket list...a small graveyard is behind this church. Sure makes for some amazing photographs.
Shelly Y — Google review
A black painted church in a beautiful landscape. You can’t get inside the church (July 1st week, 2025). I wouldn’t add it to the itinerary just to see this church unless you are in the area exploring other places.
Shilpa S — Google review
Pictures can't describe how cinematic this church is. It's a must stop on The Snaefellsnes peninsula. Also, there is a beautiful tan beach behind the church, down a hill and a waterfall across the road. It's truly a religious experience.
Marissa S — Google review
magical place, near to the beach. i do not remember, but maybe the parking was free. you cannot enter the chapel.
Dániel C — Google review
A beautiful church with a unique look, unlike the usual ones you see. The surroundings are stunning too. I can only imagine how magical it must look in winter with the aurora, though it’s already lovely in summer.
Paulomi R — Google review
Great spot in the middle of nowhere, right by the beach. It’s just a short drive from the main road and you can park right next to the church. Beside it there’s a small cemetery, so you get a unique view of the seaside or the mountains. The only downside is that it can get quite crowded, as even tour buses stop here.
Pan M — Google review
The Black Church of Búðir is a very unique and picturesque spot. Its simple black-and-white design stands out beautifully against the dramatic Icelandic landscape. It’s a great place for photos and has a peaceful, almost mystical atmosphere. However, the church itself is quite small and usually closed, so the visit is more about the outside view than exploring the inside. Still, definitely worth a stop if you are traveling around Snæfellsnes.
Can Z — Google review
Very interesting and unique. A nice small church atop a cliff. Worth a stop.

Geologic Formations
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Dramatic stone formation in the shape of an arch, set over the water with bird-rich cliffs nearby.
Visited here May 16, early afternoon. Rather busy spot, with well maintained walking paths along the shore/cliff side. Very photogenic rock cliffs, with blue water constantly hitting the cliff side - entertaining to watch a group sea kayak through here also.
Jen W — Google review
Gatklettur at Arnarstapi is absolutely stunning. The natural stone arch shaped by the ocean waves is breathtaking, and the dramatic coastline makes it a perfect spot for photos. Standing here, you can really feel the raw power of Iceland’s nature. A must-see on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula!
Can Z — Google review
Words cannot describe this beautiful section in Iceland. The rock formations by the ocean. It was extremely windy, so dress up an extra layer but the beauty is mesmerizing. There is multiple viewpoints and nice observation deck at the main rock formation making it accessible for pictures.

Gatklettur offers breathtaking views of seas in the rock at seaside, there several area to visited while walking the trails alone the seas.
James R — Google review
The rock formations, the water, the grass, the seagulls, this place was beautiful! Not very crowded and definitely worth spending some time walking around the paths.
Kyle G — Google review
Beautiful spot, worth exploring. The arch that was made naturally is really nice. Paths around are very well maintained and anti slippery, so even if it rains it should be easy to walk. Around are a few restaurants where you can grab a meal or a drink. Lot of people walking around and trying to get a good picture.
Anamarija Č — Google review
This is a rock formation, among other rock formations along the Arnastapi Coast Trail. We walked from the parking area to Gatklettur and then down the coast to Hellnar and back and logged a little more than 3.5 miles. There are pay WCs northwest of the Gatklettur's parking lot. The arch is interesting, but the whole coast is very interesting.
Terri S — Google review
A beautiful and unique rock formation in Snæfellsnes National Park. Its in the area of Arnarstapi so its a great place to pause for provisions as you pass in or out of the park. The rock is set among gorgeous cliffs filled with nesting birds, particularly fulmars and gulls. The pathway to the viewing stretches in both directions and on a fair day I would encourage 30-60 minutes to walk it for sure. Free parking here and nearby WC facilities.

Another red-roof church ✅ This super sweet church is located in Hellnar right along 574 before the town of Arnarstapi. She's not as polished as others but she has history and a scenic backdrop. If you are visiting Iceland for its churches I'd defiantly give this small one some love ❤️
Karly B — Google review
A small church located on top of a hill in a small costal village in the Snæfellsnes Peninsula that could use some repairs. It is located in a scenic area with a sea and Mountainous landscape. Very quiet and peaceful with not many visitors. Free parking and an information board; the church was not open. If you are in the area it is worth the stop to take pictures.

Beautiful wooden church in Hellnar.
Kris M — Google review
I must admit this Church in Hellnar looks worse than most others. It seems neglected with some rust on its metal construction, as well faded roof. It was closed so we couldn't enter

Got chance to see it before and after the snow storm, just beautiful. (In March)

Got engaged here. Mid winter. Gave my wife a piece of copper tubing to put on her finger as I hadn't got round to buying a ring!

Láki Tours offers responsible and unforgettable whale watching experiences in Iceland. They provide tours from Olafsvik in Snaefellsnes and Holmavik in the Westfjords. The team is dedicated, passionate, and professional, showing great respect for nature. Visitors are provided with warm wetsuits and interesting facts about the whales and other sea creatures. The tour allows guests to witness dolphins, puffins, orcas, and other seabirds without disturbing the animals.
Had a great trip today! We saw three sperm whales and two pods of orcas. The tour guides were very kind and knew a lot about the animals. They also took great care not to disturb them, but we still got pretty close. Would highly recommend!
Sjoerd B — Google review
5 stars isn't enough! They were absolutely amazing. We saw a humpback whale, Minke whales, tons of dolphins and a lot of muffins and other wildlife. Even if we didn't see anything, the staff would have made a great and memorable experience for our group. Especially Silva, she was so friendly and knowledgeable!
Crasjsmith — Google review
Went today (May 16th). At the 10:00 am. Tour and I got to say: Lakí Tours has done a tremendous job training their Orcas so they show up whenever their guests expects to see them. So, yeah.. Excellent service. lol All jokes aside... it was GREAT we saw multiple orca pods and it only took around 30 to 40 minutes at max. to spot the first group.. we saw at least like.. like... like a lot of them, I lost count tbh.. And we even got to see a Sperm whale's Tail too, right before big guy went for a deep dive and we lost him. Anyway, I would recommend this to anyone, even if you don't get to see any big fish, the views from the boat towards Iceland are something beautiful and stunning.
Antonio H — Google review
Didn’t know what to expect from the whale watching tour and was a little worried it might be some “tourist trap” but Láki Tours was amazing! I love that they obviously care about the animals and try to protect them rather than exploit. The crew even encouraged the visitors to protect the oceans etc. We saw a pod of orcas that we followed for about an hour, until the crew said we shouldn’t disturb them any longer - very thoughtful! Yet the orcas came to say hi one more time after we left:) Truly wonderful creatures. What was also amazing was that we had a “orca specialist” on board and she was able to identify the exact orcas we saw based on their fins! Had a great time!
Karolína Z — Google review
Only one sperm whale but better than nothing! The crew was very friendly and explained a lot during the trip. The conditions weren't good, I recommend medication against sea sickness if you're prone to it. It rained heavily on the way back and our overalls didn't have hoods, that could be improved.
Katrin T — Google review
We went on the 2 pm whale watching tour at the end of April. We saw a pod of 15-20 orcas and followed them for nearly an hour!! It was so magical and the tour operators did a great job with explaining facts about the whales, Iceland, the puffins that were flying around, and how to be a good visitor/respect nature. They also gave us full suits to stay dry and warm while on the boat. It was 50 degrees F and sunny but on the water it was much colder, I'd recommend gloves and a winter hat. It was a calm day but the waves were still intense, this tour would be difficult for small children and anyone who gets seasick easily. They did have a bench in the back and along the front of the boat for those where needed to sit down, and an enclosed area inside with a marine restroom. The lookout deck on top was our favorite part, but definitely make sure you hang on to the rails!
Brandi R — Google review
The crew was very organized and friendly. They gave you waterproof suits to keep you even warmer. We saw a blue whale, which apparently is very rare to spot in those waters.
Francesco R — Google review
We spent a pleasant day with Láki Tours in the waters around the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. All the crew members were great, and we saw a sperm whale and orcas.

Lóndrangar

Mentioned on

Geologic Formations
Lóndrangar is a stunning pair of natural sea stacks that rise majestically from the ocean, resembling a grand castle. Towering at 61 meters and 75 meters above the waves, these basalt formations are not only visually striking but also serve as a nesting ground for various seabirds like puffins and fulmars during the summer months. The area offers breathtaking views, especially when stormy weather sends waves crashing against the cliffs—a sight that truly showcases nature's raw power.
Very nice walk, there's an easy path leading to the rock formation. It wasn't crowded and there are a lot of nesting birds.
Katrin T — Google review
It’s a pair rock pinnacles on the sea shore. Originally they were the remnants of bigger crater of volcano. The rest is eroded away by the ocean. These are forty basalt rock. These are the favourite place for bird nest in summer time. The ocean is looking low from its banks by more than 20-30 metres. On the back side is snaefellsness glacier. The place reminds for its serenity. It’s really picturesque if any one uses drones photography.
Atis B — Google review
Pretty cool views of the rock formations here. 3 great viewing platforms to look at the rock formations from. A quick 5 minute walk on their paved path that they had to check these formations out. On the side on one of the rock formations, there are a lot of birds that sit on the ledge, which is quite cool to see in my opinion. Worth checking out!
Nikolai M — Google review
Another large and imposing rock formation within Snæfellsnes National Park. The park contains miles of striking coastline and this location is one of many that call to wandering tourists and locals alike. There are two access points. You can view and access it from the Malarrif Lighthouse with a short walk along the beach or shortly down the road there is a second view point. Free parking through the park. WC available at the lighthouse visitor center.
Ingrid H — Google review
This is such a beautiful beach, and the viewpoint was easy to reach with just a short walk—even older visitors would find it manageable. We were hoping to see puffins up close, but only managed to spot them from afar.
Péter P — Google review
Make sure you get off the viewing point and take the trail to the large rocks and coastline. This is a game changer for how this viewpoint is seen.
Danielle M — Google review
These are unique basalt cliffs and land formations lining the coast in the Snæfellsjökull National Park area of the Snæfellness Penninsula. You can access the cliffs at along Route 574 from the Londranger carpark just along the roadside. Parking is free. There you will find several trailheads including a trek through moss covered lava fields, younger than the basalt cliffs themselves. The trail is around 650 metres and relatively easy. We enjoyed the lava fields, many sheep feeding along the pathway and getting up close to basalt land formations, especially the pillars that jut upward perhaps 60 to 70 metres above sea level. Makes for some nice scenery and photography opportunities. We spent around an hour here before proceeding onward to the national park visitor centre just 5-6 minutes further up the road. There you will find WC if needed.

Rauðfeldsgjá, also known as the Red-Cloak Rift, is an enchanting natural wonder that deserves a spot on your travel itinerary. Nestled within a dramatic cliff face, this stunning gorge features a gentle stream meandering through it. A bit of adventurous climbing will reward you with access to a charming little waterfall tucked away in its depths. While some visitors may have had mixed experiences due to location confusion, don’t let that deter you!
Every 1 & 2 star review is because the ‘wrong location’ has been provided. Ignore those people. If you’re in Iceland, and you see a random place to explore, DO IT! This was an AWESOME place to stumble upon. This hole in the wall surprise was a great mini journey. Don’t let 1 star Andy’s who are looking for Narnia dissuade you! You can go back as far as you dare. Fun, quick stop that’s awesome for pictures. It’s not a magnificent, large waterfall - instead it’s a small, secluded place to explore!

An impressive gorge, fortunately without many tourists. The views in the distance are breathtaking, and then you enter the river to see how the water falls inside the gorge.
