Ukumari Park

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Ecotourism & wildlife park with native & African animals & plants on display, plus food vendors.
Ukumari Park is a beautiful zoo with a fantastic area with exotic birds. Parrots, Macaws, etc. It is a fairly large are to walk but it is an easy walk. No steep hills or anything difficult. There are little spots along the way where you can buy a soda or a water. You will also find the lions and rhinos and elephants.

Absolutely worth the trek to visit. It is beautiful. You can tell they truly care for the animals. The birds exhibit was my favorite. It rained in us all day but we did not even care. We had a lot of fun. The staff was wonderful. All the animal exhibits had the animal information in both English and Spanish, so I did not need to translate for my husband which was wonderful. We will come back next time we r in the region.
Valentina A — Google review
Amazing zoo park, with surprising and beautiful animals! The place has restaurants, beverages and snacks, be ready to walk a lot and bring enough water!
Carlos C — Google review
Great place for the whole family! Only downside is that we were a group of 11 and one senior on wheelchair and even though the zoo provides wheelchair the roads are not handicap friendly, we had to help between 4 people to get out senior down the hill a few times because it was impossible for him to do it himself.
Bettsy Q — Google review
Good place to spend 2 hours. Wish the upkeep was a bit better
Kevin K — Google review
Amazing place, all animals looks in really good shape, it is a good place, everyone should visit it
P A — Google review
Would not visit again. Purchased tickets and person that takes the tickets spent 5 minutes explaining where to start ect. All while carrying our puppy in his bag. Walked half the park. Then an employee stated there are no pets allowed. Yet, the park is full of stray dogs. Make this make sense? The place is over rated. There is a ton of walking and a ton of empty exhibitions. The hippo exhibit had fish in it. The hippos were in another place. The actual park is huge. Some parts you walk on mud/rock/unpaved roads. I would not say this is friendly for people with mobility issues. The animals they do have are nice. They seem to have space to move around. Staff is rude. There are people at some of the exhibits but no one really speaks to you unless you ask something. They do have a great food court but it is overshadowed by the stray dogs sitting next to you or roaming while you eat. If I had never been to any other zoo in the world, or animal sanctuary, I would give this place 5 stars. But unfortunently I find its high praise over rated.
E G — Google review
Amazing experience. First I gotta say: go as early as you can (they open at 9am) or else you will see half of the animals asleep. Bring anti-mosquitoes lotion + sunscreen, there's a good portion of the walk you will be doing in open areas. The good care of the animals it's noticeable, we enjoyed the time spent there. One last tip: don't take the alternative road, just go through the main road entrance (or you will end up in a one-sided way inside of a neighborhood).

Sights & Landmarks
Bolívar plaza in Pereira is home to the striking sculpture 'El Bolívar Nude' by Rodrigo Arenas Betancourt. Visitors can experience a unique mode of transportation by purchasing a ticket for a Willys jeep taxi at Salento's main square, Plaza Bolivar. These jeeps depart when full and offer seating for about 10 people with room for 4 more standing in the back.
Beautiful park. It was safe People, families, couples and friends all come here and chill. There are yummy street foods too. Everyone is friendly.

Pereira has beautiful plazas with lots of vendors and pigeons. It’s a fun place to see locals selling their wares and get a feel for the friendly city. Plus it’s always fun to see giant horse statues. I wouldn’t say it’s an all day event but If you enjoy people watching and walking it’s a great way to spend a morning or afternoon.

Pokemon stops galore for my poke fans. Food guys there is a small coffee shop with bunuelos to die for its on the left hand side from the church. This place was awesome alot of people, decorations were nice even simon bolivar has a covid mask went @ night and in the day time safe as hell

Nice place to chill and people watch.

It looks much better after the recent renovations. A lot cleaner, more tourist friendly, with a lot less hustle from street vendors. I think security can always improve, I know it would never be perfect, but it can be even more attractive for people to visit. The lack of public facilities makes it harder and more expensive as you have to pay to go to the toilet, and if you are a family it becomes even more pricey. Good choices of shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, etc. Paid, public parking available all over and available at a reasonable price. Good public transport connections and very easy to get a taxi as well.
Rod G — Google review
Some cultural and historic mixing into this park, you can see how big could be someone.

In the city centre of seems to a meeting hub. Also multiple activities are held here. It's worth passing by if you have some time to waste. There is normally a large amount piggins hanging around and the favourite spot is on the statue. (Really need cleaning when I saw it) probably best to avoid it night After 9 or so the type of people change . But the is 24 police presence.

Churches & Cathedrals
Our Lady of Poverty Cathedral in Pereira is a significant religious landmark dating back to the late 1800s. The cathedral boasts elaborate wood structures comprising its arches and ceiling, making it a remarkable example of architectural artistry. It stands as the primary house of Catholicism in Pereira and is one of the largest churches in the coffee region. The interior features beautiful wooden construction, while thick brick walls and metal coverings adorn the exterior.
wooden roof is typical for this church. It is lucky to hear the singing! peaceful!
Yu J — Google review
Wow! I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Our Lady of Poverty Cathedral in Pereira, and it was an unforgettable experience. The cathedral's interior is a masterpiece, featuring a unique roof structure crafted from 13,503 pieces of curly cumin wood, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and design. The natural brick construction adds to its charm, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. During our pre-pascua visit on Friday, March 21, 2025, we were fortunate to attend an ongoing service. The open side doors allowed for easy access, and the acoustics inside were exceptional, enhancing the uplifting and clear sermon delivered in Spanish. The cathedral's location on the western side of Plaza de Bolívar makes it a must-see landmark in Pereira. I highly recommend a visit to this beautiful cathedral to appreciate its architectural beauty and serene ambiance.

Santa Isabel is a 16,240-ft. volcano located in Los Nevados National Park, offering breathtaking trails that lead past lagoons and lush vegetation to a glacial mass at its peak. The climb to the summit takes approximately 3 hours but rewards with stunning views of the last tropical glaciers in the world. Over the past 30 years, this particular glacier has receded about 80%.
One of my best and hardest experiences , summiting The ice cap of Santa Isabel. The view is incredible you can see the Nevado del Ruiz and Nevado del Tolima. The Journey is fascinating, the landscapes are breathless, not an easy summit but archivd thanks to the 2022 Santa Isabel expedition by Mochileando Parce.

Nevado del Ruiz

Nature & Parks
Nevado del Ruiz is a majestic volcanic mountain located in a national park on the border of Caldas and Tolima departments in Colombia. The peak, often shrouded in clouds, offers stunning views and is known for its steep slopes and glacier-covered peaks. The area also provides an opportunity to spot the rare Bearded Helmetcrest bird with limited distribution. Accessible by a good paved road, visitors can drive up to the main gate and continue on a dirt road with their own vehicle.
Visited Nevado del Ruiz in 2021 and it was an amazing experience. The guided tour was great and the scenery out of this world! 100% recommend.

I'm going through my stamps to begin planning my next trip to 🇨🇴 I'm organizing my stamps by Department who doesn't love a good volcano stamp
Kenneth M — Google review
Amazing experience getting to know the different stages of the volcano up to the peak. Unfortunately the very top has been closed for 10 years because of seismic activity. Fantastic moor.
Edison S — Google review
The staff in the park is super helpful. We really liked the experience. I recommend to go as early as possible as it gets cloudy and foggy in the afternoon.
Tom V — Google review
Extremely overpriced, at least for now while the volcano is active. You drive thru the park in groups of 5 cars for about 3 miles, it's very foggy n you see the same landscape u saw on the road up here. You're supposed to stay inside your car. Forget about it.
Shivaya G — Google review
Absolutely stunning. Not swamped by tourists, especially if you have your own vehicle. There's a good paved road to the main gate, except for the last 5km which can be driven slowly in most any car. Tours are available from Manizales or twice a day from the gate. You can also drive past the gate with your own car on the dirt road. No motorcycles allowed past the gate because of previous louts going off road and causing damage. If you decide to go around towards Murillo make sure you have a very high clearance vehicle or dual sport motorcycle. That route is definitely not for the average "tourist".

The Nevado del Ruiz also known as La Mesa de Herveo (English: Mesa of Herveo, the name of the nearby town) is a volcano located on the border of the departments of Caldas and Tolima in Colombia, about 129 kilometers (80 mi) west of the capital city Bogotá. It is a stratovolcano composed of many layers of lava alternating with hardened volcanic ash and other pyroclastic rocks. Volcanic activity at Nevado del Ruiz began about two million years ago, since the Early Pleistocene or Late Pliocene, with three major eruptive periods. The current volcanic cone formed during the present eruptive period, which began 150 thousand years ago.

Immerse yourself in the authentic Colombian coffee experience at Hacienda Venecia Coffee Farm. This family-run plantation, set amidst picturesque green hills, offers guided tours of its fields and processing facilities, providing a crash course in coffee production and plenty of tastings. Stay in the charming Main House or budget-friendly hostel on the property. The hacienda has garnered awards for its premium coffee and also offers barista workshops for enthusiasts.
Hacienda Venecia is an absolute paradise for coffee lovers and nature enthusiasts alike! I recently stayed in one of their beautiful rooms with breathtaking views of lush green mountains. Waking up to this scenery with tropical birds singing all around was truly magical. The bird watching tour exceeded all expectations, our knowledgeable guide helped us spot over 15 different bird species! A highlight of my stay was definitely the coffee tour led by Mateo, who expertly explained every aspect of the coffee growing and processing. The coffee tasting was exceptional, and you can purchase some to take home too. The food was consistently delicious, with every meal being a treat. The attention to detail and cleanliness throughout the property was impressive, and the staff were very nice and accommodating.

This is definitely a great Experience... The coffee tour by Mateo was great, and much more technical than we've experienced before, a very good thing. The Cacao workshop, again by Mateo, was a very enlightening experience and totally enjoyable. Both were presented in Spanish, with just a few translations offered but we loved it for our practice... Mateo is special and if you can, be sure to get him. The facility is gorgeous, clean, friendly, easy to get around once you are there ... The one trail we took for a walk offered great view... The mixture of coffee, plantains, cocao, agave, palms, bananas, and extremely wide variety of flowering plants is awesome. Above all the staff is fantastic.

This place is like a dream! If you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful retreat in nature then this place is for you! The rooms opening to the lush gardens are enchanting. The surroundings are like walking in the gardens of Eden: flowers, trees, butterflies, humming birds, the sound of water, crickets… just sit on the balcony and enjoy! The food is also regal! They served us a banana soup… I went straight to heaven. So delicious! There is a complementary coffee station available all day long, a pool, hammocks… the best place to escape from the hustles of life.
Jessica E — Google review
I wish I'd been able to stay longer. The entire place is incredibly beautiful, food fantastic and atmosphere so relaxing. They offer unlimited free coffee of each of their five coffee offerings, just for being a guest at the hotel, so there's plenty of opportunity to try before you buy. The cocoa workshop was a great intro to chocolate in Colombia and the farm. Hot showers (iykyk) and decent WiFi and added bonus.
Greg M — Google review
What a beautiful and peaceful place this is! We stayed at the hacienda with our family of four and participated in the coffee and cocoa tours, which are both recommended. The ladies in the kitchen made us great meals everyday, so we fully enjoyed the experience.

What a wonderful place, hidden from the outside world with hummingbirds, peacocks, jasmine and chocolate cake flavour in the air ! And nature is insanely beautiful, such a diverse and peaceful place, walking around this huge domain. Will be back ! Nestled just a few miles east of Manizales, Recinto del Pensamiento is an idyllic nature reserve that offers a serene escape from the city. The park boasts lush gardens, a butterfly farm, and a hummingbird observatory, providing visitors with the perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature and find tranquility. Guided tours offer insights into Andean plants and their medicinal properties, while visitors can also enjoy sipping on coffee at Juan Valdez and taking in the scenic views.
Place is great to get in touch with nature. There is a Juan Valdez and an open space to sit in and enjoy the view while sipping on a good coffee. I would recommend the guided tour walk. It takes you all over the park while the guides explain the type of plants/trees they have. You will eventually be taken to the top so you can witness a gran variety of birds in their natural habitat, definitely beautiful and it makes the two hours well worth it! Bring good shoes and comfortable clothing as it may be cold at times.

I wanted to share my review of the recent wedding I attended at the Recinto of Del Pensamiento. It was truly a stunning event that I believe you would enjoy experiencing as well. The venue itself is breathtaking, set in a romantic environment surrounded by beautiful nature. The bride's attention to detail was evident, especially with the addition of plants along the private trail leading to the washroom and the pabellón building. It truly added to the charm and magical ambiance of the place. One thing to keep in mind is that if you have a limited budget, additional expenses for lighting, heaters, tables, sofas, among others, can quickly add up. The venue only provides the building itself upon rental, so extra amenities need to be arranged separately. However, if budget permits, it can be the perfect setting for a wedding ceremony. For larger weddings with over 300 guests like the one I attended, the restaurant space at the main hotel may feel a bit small for a pre-cocktail hour. In good weather, guests can enjoy the stunning surroundings, but in case of rain, it may become a bit challenging. Overall, the Recinto of Del Pensamiento is a magical place that I highly recommend considering for any special occasion. The natural beauty and romantic atmosphere create a truly unforgettable experience.
Marce T — Google review
A very pleasant surprise. We went when the weather was perfect, overcast. Perfect for pictures or to take a video. Our group was the only one present so we have the complete attention of the guide. A beautiful pace to see nature, and the surrounding area of Manizales. The station of the hummingbird was amazing. Be prepared to walk in some uphill roads. You may need to carry an umbrella if a sunny day or a rainy day.
Charlie M — Google review
We arrived at 11 am and told we had to wait until 1pm for a tour. The price of the tour stated online was about $7.50. We went to the restaurant and explained that we needed to finish eating by 12:45 to make the tour and would we have time. They said "yes". We also asked if we could pay with a credit card and they said "yes". We ordered but by 12:30 still didn't have our food. We told them that if the food was not out in a few minutes we would have to cancel the order. They brought it out. We didn't have time to eat much and my husband went to buy the tickets while I paid the bill. Except, their credit card machine didn't work. I finally told them I needed to leave or I wouldn't make the tour. Meanwhile my husband had been told he would have to pay $22 instead of $7.50 and they only accept cash despite saying earlier they accept credit cards. Then he was told the 1pm tour was cancelled and we would have to wait until 3pm for a tour. We said we could not wait that late. Then, another person came and said the 1pm tour was on and we would be charged $7.50 and could pay with a credit card... Eventually we were able to pay for everything with the credit card. But this was only part of our experience. The recinto needs to specify that the tram is no longer functioning and visitors must walk up a long incline to get to the butterfly house and the hummingbird house. It also needs to let visitors know that they will not be able to see the orchids. This means that visitors will only get basically half of what they paid to see. Visitors go to see the orchids, butterflies and hummingbirds and to ride the tram. We were expecting the price of admission included all of what the recinto advertised. It didn't.

Very nice and big parc. With all parcs like this its almost impossible to keep clean and tidy and the same goes for this parc. The cable car wasn't working when we weten here. On the upside, the parc is beautifull. Loads of plants, trees, hummingbirds, butterflies and orchids. Very nice staff who know what they are talking about during the two hour tour for a low price (€5). Great Valdez coffeeshop!
Rick B — Google review
It's not a recommended place if you want to go birdwatching peacefully and explore the area. You have to pay to tour the site with a guide, which limits your experience, and if you want to enter without taking part in the tour, you're only allowed in the social areas. So, I don't think it's a good place to enjoy birdwatching.
Jean S — Google review
I didn’t get to bring my doggie into the forest because “pets are not allowed”. It was a bummer and we had come a long way. We just wanted to walk around the forest but alas I was just met with dome harsh words by a lady who thought I was supposed to know about these things.

The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Rosary, also known as the Manizales Cathedral, is a magnificent Catholic cathedral completed in 1939. It features a stunning rose window and canopy on the main altar. The cathedral stands out as the highest in Colombia at 106 meters and is considered one of the first churches of its kind in Latin America due to its construction with reinforced concrete.
A must visit in Manizales, great experience and provides a different perspective of the Cathedral and its history. Bonus, that coffee on top of the Cathedral 👌🏼

I think it's one of the best in Colombia. Glass work is great. The cost of participating in a touristic tour inside the cathedral is 13,000 COP per person. Children are 8,000 COP. With this tour, you can also climb to the highest point of the cathedral. Inside, on the 2nd floor, there is a cafe overlooking the square. The service in the cafe is bad but the coffee is good.

Monumento a Los Colonizadores

The 'Monumento a Los Colonizadores' is an awe-inspiring tribute to the founders of Manizales, perched high on a hill in the Chipre neighborhood. Crafted from 50 tonnes of bronze, this monumental piece not only showcases impressive artistry but also serves as a gateway to breathtaking views over the city and the stunning PNN Los Nevados. Visitors can easily reach it by hopping on a bus marked 'Chipre' along Carrera 23.
Cool place. Nice sculptures. Great view. There are good seatings. Sit down and breathe.

It's actually pretty high. ideal for observing the city and the natural beauties surrounding the city. The whole city was covered with fog on the day we were there. especially high altitudes. It was an interesting composition. For example, the church on the back of an ox. We were expected to understand the ordeal and suffering of the colonizers. There is usually a parking lot around. Entry is free.
Öner B — Google review
Beautiful place to visit! You get to see the whole Manizales city from top of the mountain.. The monument is a tribute to the mining industry!!
Bedoya R — Google review
This monument is composed of two separated sculpture sets. While the one at its center gives the name to the monument, it's the other one hidden at the back that made my trip worth it. This one, named "Agony" a miniature of the city layed as it was suffering from an earthquake, while the surrounding bulls withstand the blow. The entire piece is well crafted and it's a metaphorical representation of a dramatic event.

Really nice to walk around for half an hour, especially on a clear day. Highest part of the city so there are excellent views. Gliding also available here!

Reserva Natural Jardín de Rocas, also known as the Garden of Rocks, is a must-visit for birdwatchers in Colombia's coffee region. This natural reserve is home to the stunning Andean gallitos de las rocas, or cocks-of-the-rock, known for their vibrant plumage. Visitors are encouraged to time their visit at dawn or dusk to witness these birds' captivating displays as they vie for mates.
Incredible! Founded and run by a biologist and his wife. Gorgeous reserve and unbelievable bird watching. There is also a small cafe and gift shop. Not at all crowded we went and lots of places to sit comfortably and watch the birds.

Amazing experience! I was only able to be here for about 45 minutes before my bus left in late afternoon but it was well worth it! I was there around 4:35-5:20pm and there were birds flying all over the place. Highly recommend visiting!

This was an unbelievable place! So many beautiful birds to observe! The main, which is the Andean Rock of the Cock, but there were many other birds that decided to pay a visit. The owner seems to love what she does and she pointed some of these birds to me. The grounds are beautiful with lots of plants and flowers. You can sit in a cabana and just watch these birds! Keep in mind the reserve is only open in the afternoon for about two hours but it is worth the trip! Right before the bridge, turn right down a street past horse stable and plenty of colorful wildflowers until you arrive at the entrance. You may wait a minute or so for the owner to come greet you but don’t worry it’s open!

Nice private garden to view birds. Update through their website hours of operation (usually 16:30-18:00). Several viewpoints of nearby birds, cool experience. There’s also cafeteria there with good coffee and some books to read.

This is such a lovely place, both for the gardens and of course the birds. I was there for about an hour and saw so many of the cock of the rock birds really close up, a hummingbird, a few other pretty birds and lots of vultures

Beautiful tropical garden, lovely owner and the opportunity to see lots different birds native to South America. Well worth 15k to pass an hour or so in the afternoon. When we arrived it looked closed so knock on the door and the lady will open up for you. Be aware it is down a really steep hill that can be slippery when wet.

Dulces Del Jardín, which translates to "Garden Sweets," is a renowned establishment offering an impressive array of cakes, desserts, and candies. Founded in 1995, this local institution is particularly famous for its arequipe, a Colombian sweet made from milk and sugar. The colorful interior of the shop adds to its charm. Visitors can indulge in homemade jams, pastries, chocolates, and cookies while admiring the beautifully decorated space filled with plants in rainbow-colored pots.
This spot not only has delicious baked goods, excellent coffee and a great breakfast it also has PLANTS!!!!! It's a plant geek paradise with a sunken garden in the back patio with huge hanging staghorn ferns, exotic and rare succulents of all kinds, weird beautiful arums, orchids and gesneriads of all sorts. While we enjoyed our culinary experience and relished the pastries, we expected more in terms of options. We ordered a pastry filled with apples and sparkled with almonds and another one similar to a roll with dulce de leche. Both were delicious and not too sweet, which we highly appreciated. They also sell some local products. The setting is quite cute, with many flowers and pots hanging on the walls.

Joshua P — Google review
A must-do experience! This place is truly unique and well worth the journey from Medellín. Watching the sunset from the hammocks was definitely a highlight of our time in Colombia. The main appeal is simply experiencing the place itself and soaking in the serene surroundings. They offer various activities, but there’s a lot of downtime in between, so I’d definitely recommend bringing a book or something to keep yourself entertained. The staff were friendly; however, because they all live there, it sometimes felt like you were intruding on their space, which didn’t always feel the most welcoming. Our only complaint was the noise level in the communal area. During our two-day stay, there were very few moments (if any) where it was quiet and peaceful. There was often a clash of music being played a bit too loudly, combined with someone practicing piano. At times, it was so overstimulating that we either retreated to our bedroom (which was in a separate building) or put on headphones to block out the noise. It’s a shame because it’s such a tranquil place, and many people likely plan on coming here to relax. That said, overall, I would still recommend a stay here just for the unique experience.

One of my favourite stays... EVER.. I loved the authenticity of this magical place. I had wanted to visit 3 years ago when i was last in Colombia and never made it, so this time i had to make it happen. Right from the start with booking the communication was fantastic with Andrea, there were bus strikes on and she was constantly keeping me updated on the available routes we could take, and how to get there, once we arrived at La Pena, we were met by Santi who was awesome and kind and was an all round amazing guy. We ziplined into the la casa where all the staff were attentive and quick to help us with our bags and give us a coffee that they make on site. They explained to us everything we could do and to enjoy our time there. The cabin was amazing, with a fantastic view, the food was incredible and locally sourced/made, i genuinely couldn't find fault in anything and seeing the passion the team had for nature and their work and giving all those who came a unique experience was such a nice touch. La casa was beautifully designed and had really nice touches, it definitely felt like your home for the time you stayed. Also my girl friend had the un-fortunate experience of passing out (most likely from the views) but the team there were quick to act in helping and getting her back on her feet, and to keep checking in following it. They were so attentive and calm alongside re-assuring her and comforting her embarrassment. If you can get there - go.. You will not be disappointed, everything was just perfect and a great way to relax, get out of the city and re-connect with nature.. the sunset hammock experience is not to be missed. Thanks to everyone who made our stay epic - I hope to return in the future

Stayed here as part of a motorcycle tour around Colombia. The place is literally tied to a cliff. Steep uneven steps, rope bridges, and a zipline in. It was a fantastic day spent there. The four person staff were friendly and very helpful. I would certainly go back if I could ever find the place again.
G M — Google review
This was one of the most incredible places I have ever stayed. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The location is breathtaking. The food is cooked with so much love. And the activities are so unique and fun on top of that.
Versavia — Google review
For an 8 hours drive back and forth, it should have been an astonishingly amazing experience. It wasn't nearly worth the terrible drive up the mountains to that place. The prices were fine, the operators were great, but we only did about 3 attractions and waited for hours in between them. Entertaining, nice view, other than that definetely not worth the visit.
Yair B — Google review
Amazing experience! Don't miss it. The view is incredible and the feeling of being in the air is so special and exciting! The stuff is super nice and friendly, and the cabins are into the nature (literally. Everything is open - no front wall). There are also super fun extreme activities - tarzan, hammocks in the air, climbing. Just take into account that there's no restaurant! There is a kitchen where you can cook (with a refrigerator), and they also sell beers coffee and cocktails.

Great, great tour!!! Very humble and sweet family who work in the coffee business for a few generations. The guide, who's actually one of the members of the family, guides you through the whole process of coffee production, from harvest to the grinding of the roasted beans. A lunch prepared by the women in the house is included and it's a true plus!! They have the visits in Spanish and in English. Definitely not to be missed!! PS: It's recommended to ask for the transfer from Fredonia to the farm if you don't have a 4x4 or a car with good clearance.

Thank you very much for this visit in the world of Colombian coffee. We learned a lot about how to make good coffee. We came from Medellin especially to do this tour and we do not regret this trip. We will never see a cup of coffee in the same way again. Thank you for everything !

A highlight of our trip to Colombia! Could not recommend highly enough. The location is magical, the views spectacular, and the Cafe de la Cima family are warm and welcoming. The tour was comprehensive, covering every stage of the coffee production process, and the tasting session that followed was insightful and delicious in equal measure. The lunch the family provided was faultless -- everything tasted super fresh and it was clearly made with love (the soup and the homegrown chilis were a personal highlight). They even arranged transportation to and from our homestead some 40 minutes away. Cafe de la Cime is truly a gem. We will be buying their coffee and shipping it to the US for years to come, I'm sure.

One of the greatest travel experiences my wife and I have ever had. Seeing the development of the plant to the cup (including the roasting!), and getting to have a delicious breakfast and lunch included made the day incredible. Although a bit hard to get to, the views at the top of the hike were some of the best in Colombia. I would recommend this experience to anyone who loves coffee and is up for a bit of adventure. Also, the coffee throughout the day tastes amazing.

We were so thoroughly impressed and our tour guide Maria said it was her first time here as well and that the presentation, the family, the food and of course, THE COFFEE, was all superb and well worth every penny. We used Kimkim Travel who set us up with Maria, an expert linguist who translated everything and was so kind, sweet and informative and our driver, Raul, also through Kimkim Travel who was the nicest, honest, kind man and we all ended up being friends. The plantation tour was thorough and the whole local family business was charming and thought out well. I thank the Cima Family for all they do and have accomplished. Highly recommended - it's a DO NOT MISS 5 star experience.

What an incredible experience and amazing hospitality. I felt at home the moment I arrived. This coffee farm has to be one of the highlights of my trip to Colombia. They are so friendly towards visitors and make the experience truly positive and unique. I loved it.

Very unike and nice place to see how coffee is produced, starting from seed to growing the plants up to harvesting and collecting the coffee cherries. Later it continues with drying and heating up the coffee beans until receiving a fresh coffee roast. Points of Interest & Landmarks
Plaza Botero in Medellín, Antioquia is a renowned public space that serves as an open-air museum featuring 23 striking bronze sculptures created by the celebrated Colombian artist Fernando Botero. These larger-than-life statues, characterized by their exaggerated proportions and voluptuous forms, depict a diverse range of subjects from animals to human figures. Strategically placed within the square, these sculptures not only showcase Botero's artistic talent but also aim to make art an integral part of everyday life for visitors.
This plaza is full of life and character. Surrounded by the hustle of Medellín, the sculptures by Botero invite people to sit, laugh, and interact. It’s not a quiet museum it’s art in the middle of everyday life, with vendors, families, and music all around. It’s the kind of place where you feel both the culture and the local experience. Be alert and take care of your belongings.
TanTravel818 — Google review
Must see plaza in Medellin. The sculptures are magnificent. The museum is worth visiting (40k pesos) for the art work alone. Lots of food stalls and restaurants in the area. Recommend travel to and from by taxi. Area is sketchy but plaza area is safe with normal caution.
Frank — Google review
A very lively area that offers a great local experience. The square is beautiful, with impressive large sculptures from Botero, and it’s easy to explore on foot or by bike. We visited twice: once on a bike tour and once on our own. The only downside is that it gets very crowded and unfortunately has a strong urine smell in many spots. We did not visit the museums unfortunately.
Shilton D — Google review
A beautiful, bustling plaza with great food options and cultural experiences abounding. It isn’t the cleanest city park I’ve been to, but it is certainly worth a visit to stop by the surrounding museums and explore the adjacent markets.
Daniel M — Google review
One of the main squares in the city, bustling with life, street vendors and it felt very safe. Lot of police patrolling the streets. You can find lot of vendors selling different drinks and snacks as you walk around and enjoy the sculptures of Fernando Botero, Antioquia’s very own.
Lukasz ( — Google review
Walking through Plaza Botero felt like stepping into a living art gallery. The massive bronze sculptures were impossible to ignore—bold, playful, and full of character. Surrounded by Medellín’s energy, I felt the city’s soul come alive. Locals, tourists, street performers—everyone added to the vibe. It’s a place where art meets real life. I could’ve stayed there for hours.
Jamaica P — Google review
It's a shame that Botero sculptures are placed in a park that is dirty, smells bad, there's trash on the ground, people under the influence of drugs speaking nonsense, prostitutes, etc. It simply feels unsafe and not appropriate for families with small children. It's a beautiful park that is being wasted. I've been many times to Medellín but we don't dare to visit the park unless we have men in our group. You don't feel safe unless your are in a group and several locals with you in order to feel protected. There was a robbery while we were there and it was a little uncomfortable to see people yelling and running in different directions. The municipality needs to clean this place and send policeman. Tourist are missing the chance to enjoy the Art of Botero because of fear of being robbed.

Ay mami, it can get dangerous so badly and quickly, you don’t even realize it when you’re already in danger. Be cautious at every time and watch around. The plaza botero is wonderful and it means something very special to medellin. Do a walking tour first and then go out on yourself into the medellin city centre but don’t do the opposite like me. The metro station is right underneath tje bridge, you basically exit the merro and stand on the plaza botero. Be careful and enjoy.

Museums
The Museum of Antioquia, established in 1881, is one of Colombia's oldest and most important museums. It boasts a diverse art collection spanning from colonial times to contemporary pieces, providing visitors with a comprehensive journey through the region's artistic development. The museum is renowned for its extensive display of works by native artists Fernando Botero and Pedro Nel Gómez.
It housed two floors of exhibits. Each corner gives a different perspective from the artist eyes. I enjoyed my walk through and encouragement you to do the same if you enjoy creative expression.
Kimberly H — Google review
It's a large museum with various of art forms. Really interesting display and there was 3 floors available. It's definitely worth the visit as it focuses on colombian artists, especially Botero
Jada M — Google review
The Museum of Antioquia is a beautiful and impressive space with three floors full of art to explore. It’s quite big, and you can find a wide range of styles—from modern pieces to older works—each offering a unique perspective through the eyes of different artists. Entry is reasonably priced, and the flow of visitors makes it comfortable to walk through; it wasn’t overcrowded when I went, but it wasn’t empty either, so you still feel the energy of the place. You really get the chance to take your time and enjoy the exhibits. Highly recommend if you’re in Medellín!
Destiny B — Google review
Very nice Museum with lots of art work 🖼 from colombian 🇨🇴 artist Fernando Botero, Francisco Cano, Ana Mercedes Hoyos and other artists from South America. The building is a three level plus basement, so it takes about 2.5 hours to fully capture all of the art work 🖼. There are staircase and elevators 🛗 on the front and back of the Museum. They have a restaurant, book store and souvenir shop. Restrooms 🚻 are only on the first floor and on one side of the building. I recommend visiting this Museum at least once. 👍👍

Great experience at the Museum of Antioquia. Good collection of 20th century modern art by Colombian artists like Botero. Nice large building and galleries. A little warm inside, nice little cafe, wished the gift shop were larger and offered more items.

Must do if you’re visiting Medellin. 46,000 for entrance for foreigners. Free guide in English on Mondays 11 as well as other free guide in Spanish during the week at 14. We had an amazing experience with our knowledgeable guide. 5 stars!
Anna V — Google review
A wonderful museum well-worth visiting. I love that it’s in the heart of Plaza Botero, which is thriving with local vendors and everyday folks walking around. I like that the museum isn’t overwhelmingly large, you can actually be engaged the whole visit.
Hallie A — Google review
Foreigner price is 40000 cop just FYI. There were great amount of paintings which I really enjoyed a lot. Lot of the foot traffic was on the Botero exhibit on the third floor but my favorite was the works of Francisco Antonio Cano Cardona exhibit located on the first floor (As of Aug 2025). I actually really enjoyed the museum itself and wish that I could give it five stars but I had to take one star away since the museum is located in a pretty shady area. And it is actually located inside a square so you have to walk a bit to get the museum from your uber and vice versa. With me sticking out like a sore thumb as a tourists, I was approached by lady of the night, a drug seller, and some homeless person literally all within half block walk to my Uber. "No, esta bien, gracias" was repeated over and over by me until I was able to get in my Uber.

A really creative and unique place to take the family! Interesting and educational activities for all ages, lots of interactive exhibits with a medium aquarium and an outdoor portion as well. Well worth a visit!

This was a decent place to go with kids. The outdoor section was pretty good, though some of the exhibits were broken. Indoors was also okay, but could be a bit overwhelming at times, and the explanations of the science behind the exhibits wasn't really that clear in Spanish or in English. There was a fun map of a community on the wall of one of the buildings, with clues for kids to find. We had a blast looking at this for almost an hour, coming up with our own characters to find.

Beautiful aquarium, I had a great time with my girl friend. A lot to see here and has a lot of different variety of fishes with info on them. I learned a lot with the information provided. Very beautiful ND it was a great experience. I would definitely recommend and come back here.

At about $14 it's fairly reasonably priced. Largest fresh water aquarium in South America with a science park for kids to enjoy hands on exhibits..Has a small food court, elevator and some escalators, but expect to climb several flights of stairs anyway. The Planetarium opens apparently at.3pm.
David C — Google review
This aquarium is fun for all ages. The outside exhibits and the three exhibits inside are all hands-on for adults and children. I took my teenager and myself there today and we really enjoyed it. The favorite part of the aquarium for me was the dinosaur exhibit put me back into mind of being in Jurassic Park.

An Unforgettable Experience at Parque Explora! Parque Explora in Medellín is truly a gem — a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to the city! From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with vibrant exhibits, interactive displays, and an atmosphere that makes learning fun for all ages. The aquarium was a highlight — featuring a wide range of freshwater and saltwater species. It’s beautifully designed and incredibly educational. The science and technology exhibits are hands-on and immersive, making complex topics accessible and exciting. Kids and adults alike will love the outdoor park areas, which include fun installations and creative spaces. Plus, the planetarium nearby is an excellent add-on to your visit. The staff is friendly, the facilities are clean, and the entire space is thoughtfully curated. Whether you’re a curious traveler, a science lover, or a family looking for an enriching day out, Parque Explora delivers.

Super efficient service mid Medellín. I was quite impressed with the structures, the cleanliness and security. The sites are beautiful, a certain must. I’ve heard some people are a bit skeptical on the safety concern. These are extremely well maintained, have never had an issue and are very smooth considering some winds mid hill.

The service of the metro system is great. The station is getting bigger to add another cable system to the other side. Now you can take the cable to the north - oriental side of medellin anding in a natural park and soon, there will be a cable going to the north- west side.

El Peñón de Guatapé, also known as Penol Rock, is a must-see destination near Medellin. This 200-meter-high granite monolith offers breathtaking panoramic views of the region and the stunning blue lagoon below. Visitors can climb the 659-step brick staircase to reach the top and enjoy the exceptional scenery. The area also offers various outdoor activities such as ziplining, speed-boating, kayaking, and fishing for families to enjoy.
Very touristy, but a breathtaking view. 800 steps to climb to reach the top, and a very nice reward! I'd recommend a visit as part of a package tour of Guatape and the surrounding area. We were lucky enough to arrive early to avoid the crowds. A must-do for the view!
Mich _ — Google review
In comparison to other places in the area, it's just OK... but you kind of have to go as it is on most tourist lists. The town of Guatape is lovely, even if it is a bit of a tourist trap.
Arthur K — Google review
We visited this interesting tourist spot with a day tour. We had quite good weather and we arrived early in the morning (around 10:30AM) when it was not too busy. At the bottom there lots of restaurants, souvenirshops and toilets. There are free toilets next to the ticketbooth so you don’t have to go to one of the restaurants where you have to pay. After you get your tickets you start the climb up. The stairs were quite okay, it took us about 20 minutes to reach the top. Here you have great views of the surroundings and the lake. There are toilets at the top as well. In about 30 minutes you can start your descend again which takes more or less the same amount of time. It was quite impressive to visit this.
Sam H — Google review
Really good option to look at, this is the biggest and nearest attraction if you are staying in Medellin. To go up it costs 30,000COP roughly $8.50 and to get there you have to climb 705 stairs (20 min climb). It’s not recommended if you have heart conditions and you still have to stop 3-4 times to catch your breath. Overall the place is very nice with a lot of food options and drinks.
Fernando A — Google review
Lovely town. We did manage to climb the monolith, at first easy but that 500/600 steps we start feeling it in our knees. The town Guatape is a must visit. Recommend to do this with on a day tour.
Shilton D — Google review
Awesome place. The climb is workout with a view for sure. 30k Colombian pesos which is around 8 dollars are totally worth it.
Leo B — Google review
Mystical and spectacular, the town is beautiful, one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. The hotels and restaurants are amazing. Highly recommend a visit
Carl J — Google review
I visited La Piedra del Peñón on a Wednesday morning. They opened at 8 AM, and we arrived by 8:20, which was perfect for avoiding the crowds of tourist vans that typically show up around 10 AM. We rented a car, and parking was minimal, though I don't recall the exact amount. The entrance fee was $15 per person, which seemed quite reasonable. As you make your way to the top, be sure to take pictures since the view is better ascending than descending. Prepare for some breaks on the way up—trust me, you'll need them! At the summit, you'll find snacks, drinks, and souvenirs available for purchase. You're sure to have a fantastic time!

We had a really wonderful wandering around in Guatapé and found this quite beautiful church. It is known as Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Carmen located in the main square of Guatapé. It is famous for its striking red and white facade, which shines brightly in the sunlight, and its impressive Greco-Roman architectural style featuring large arches and circular bevels on its columns. Inside, the church is noted for its colorful and elegant interior, including wooden elements and vibrant religious figures, creating a serene and reflective atmosphere. The altar is often decorated with flowers and colorful draped curtains, adding to its charm. The church is a central landmark in Guatapé, surrounded by cafes and the lively plaza.

The church is located inside Guatapé, located right next to the Main Park of Guatapé, and one of the tallest buildings in Guatapé as well. The colors of the church and just the whole architecture is pretty cool and unique as well. The church’s inside seems to be mainly made of wood which is pretty different to see in churches at least for me. It’s free to enter but do make sure to be quiet and respectful. The church’s ceiling is high and the whole spaces including the seats are pretty spacious. Definitely worth visiting when in Guatapé because it is one of the main attractions as well and doesn’t take a lot of your time especially if you’re in a tour group.

Established in 1865, the Church of Our Lady of Carmen captivates visitors with its central altar, a centerpiece of detailed wood carvings. The artistry extends to the side altars, each carved with equal skill and care. By 1930, the church had been equipped with benches for the congregation and updated with bells that reverberated throughout the area. During our visit, we had the chance to peek inside amid a service.

Guatapé's handicrafts are a captivating aspect of the town's culture. Visitors to this charming place are treated to a plethora of unique handmade items that showcase the diverse artistic talents of local artisans. The history and traditions embodied in these crafts provide insight into the rich cultural heritage of Guatapé. From intricately designed pottery and colorful woven textiles to exquisite woodwork and vibrant paintings, each piece tells a story of skilled craftsmanship and creativity.
The charming cobblestone street of De Guatape in the town of Guatapé is a picturesque dream come to life. Lined with colorful colonial-era buildings painted in vibrant hues of crimson, azure, and canary yellow, the street is postcard-perfect and begging to be photographed. Around every turn is another photo opportunity—a bright red door framed by pink bougainvillea, an old blue bicycle leaning against a turquoise wall, patterned balconies and shutters in a spectrum of shades. The street is tailor-made for Instagram, with colorful vignettes at every glance. Strolling down De Guatape Street reminds me of the lovely cobblestone lanes of Sayulita, Mexico, another Pinterest-worthy town saturated with color and texture. Like Sayulita, half the joy of visiting Guatapé is wandering without aim, soaking in the atmosphere and discovering sweet moments of happenstance beauty. Whether you're an avid photographer or simply appreciate pretty places, De Guatape Street is worth exploring. Its postcard charm and instagrammability make it a highlight of any trip to the picturesque town of Guatapé.

I was in the park on last weekend, the place is very good but everyone knows that the attraction of the park is its slides and they were closed, only one or two were open, in addition to that the state of the pools is not the best. I recommend to improve the state of the park because it’s a very touristy place in Medellin, is beautiful and perfect to share time with the family. Finally we had a really great time, we enjoyed in the available zones like slowly river, the zip line, the wave pool, etc. The food was delicious, there are a lot of options to have lunch, snacks, fast food etc.

This architectural gem is not only a testament to history but also offers stunning views of the lush Colombian mountains and the winding Cauca River below. While visiting Santa Fe de Antioquia, taking a tuk-tuk ride or enjoying a leisurely walk to this picturesque site is highly recommended.
Very nice little town. We had an extra day in Medellin and had to choose between Guatape and Santa Fe de Antigua. We decided to avoid the tourist rush and enjoy the idyllic town of Santa Fe de Antigua and see the real face of the country. I recommend it. And be sure to rent a tuk-tuk and go to the bridge.

Fun little detour from Santa Fe. The bridge was really fun to walk across and the views of the surroundings were pretty stunning. We hiked around the area a bit and there were a lot of bugs, but overall the experiences was very recomendable.

Very picturesque and it's a little (ok, not very much) cool than in the city. The tuk-tuks will take you down here (and back) for 10,000 pesos per person (max three). Our driver stopped at an overlook on the Santa Fe side of the river and then dropped us off to walk across. The far side has a couple of small restaurants where you can get a drink or an ice-cream.

If you are already in Santa Fe to Antioquia, grab a motor scooter taxi, and for 35,000 cop, they will drive you down there, you walk across, and they meet you on the other side and then drive you back across. Worth the trip since we were already in Santa Fe, but nothing to write home about if you've seen a big bridge before.

Well maintained wooden bridge. A wall of information on anchor towers provides a great history overview. Plus a place to relax and enjoy the views.

This bridge is the highlight of my trip to Santa Fé. The walk from the bus station to the bridge is enjoyable, mostly having the road to myself. - 12/07/2022

It is one beautiful place in the occidental area of Antioquia. I recommend a bottle of cold water and comfortable shoes for this trip.
