Lovely vineyard and dune tour
Steffan P — Google review
The town is so random. It's in the middle of nowhere in the Peru desert, but Huacachina Hostels and Tours take advantage of that. They offer a great overnight tour that includes taking dune bugs and having an awesome time. They'll stop at a large dune and let you sand ski down it. You'll get caked in sand, but it's worth it. The guide then makes you a great Peruvian meal over a fire. It's a GREAT time!

The Arenas Sandboarding and dune buggy tour in Huacachina is a thrilling adventure that takes travelers on a ride through the mesmerizing desert dunes in dune buggies, providing an adrenaline-pumping experience as they soar over the sandy terrain. Additionally, visitors have the option to pair this tour with sandboarding down the steep slopes of the dunes for an added rush. The excursion also offers the opportunity to witness a breathtaking sunset over the picturesque landscape.
What a surreal place to find a lake in the mist of a desert! This place is gorgeous and full of adventures. So much fun! It was exhilarating boarding down the sand dunes and blasting through the area hills in the atv. While in ATV, hand tight and buckle up because you will be bounced around!

Huacachina Oasis is a stunning natural wonder with a picturesque lagoon surrounded by tropical palms and warm weather. The area boasts beautiful dunes, offering adventure seekers the perfect setting for thrilling activities. Visitors can witness breathtaking sunsets over the mesmerizing desert, creating an unforgettable experience. The small town around the oasis provides a charming backdrop for leisurely walks and boat rides on the lagoon. With its growing popularity on social media, more tourists are drawn to this mysterious oasis to capture its beauty.
One of the most unique places I've ever been (in over 30 countries). It's shocking how high the dunes surrounding it are. We visited during the slow time of the week in the slow part of the year but it was still a lot of fun to walk around the town and go on a dune buggy ride at sunset with a stop to sand board. Only downside is the food largely caters to tourists and isn't that great on the whole, but there's a few better options out there. It's very with the visit!
James B — Google review
On Sunday it was crowded but with many restaurants and a very pleasant temperature in the shade around the lake it was a nice place to be. Don't miss taking a dune buggy ride - the drivers are skilled, safety conscious and will accommodate those looking for a more sedate ride. The dunes are magical.
Rebecca M — Google review
Although quite touristic, it's still a beautiful spot thay is worth visiting. We also stayed two nights in there which made us connect deeper with the oasis. There are several nice restaurants and activities, so it's really worthwhile.
Konstantinos K — Google review
The only oasis above the desert in Peru.🏜️ It was a truly exciting day.🙆‍♂️ We drove a 4x4 buggy over the sand dunes.🏎️ We got our adrenaline pumping.😁 I felt like I was on a roller coaster as we went up and down dunes up to 30 meters high.🤷‍♂️ We stopped to enjoy the incredible views of the sunset and take another picture.📸

Magical desert oasis! An incredible place surrounded by golden dunes, where you can relax by the lagoon, enjoy sandboarding, or take a buggy tour to watch the sunset from the top of the dunes. The atmosphere is lively, with many restaurants and bars around. Definitely one of the most unique and beautiful spots in Peru!
Adrian H — Google review
This was such a fun experience! This was my first time sand boarding and I had the time of my life!!! It was money well spent. I booked it for an hour and that was enough for me, I couldn't imagine being up there for longer and not having a bathroom. I had to pee so bad, I'm surprised that I didn't pee on myself during that hour especially during the buggy rides.
Yea W — Google review
Unbelivable place. Small but cozy with lovely and friendly people except those who wants to sell sunglasses and other staff and walk up to you. Must try the sandbuggy it's great fun.
Anita S — Google review
This is a great place to visit. You can take lot of pictures, souveniers and lot of restaurants. 4 hours from lima and very safe place. If you are interest in going in buggys and enjoying desert activities , please check your health situation.. if you are having heart conditions, back pains ... i will avoid. Tambo Colorado

Sights & Landmarks
Ancient Ruins
Tambo Colorado is an impressive Inca archaeological site located inland from the coastal marine park, easily accessible from the town of Pisco. The well-preserved adobe buildings and museum with historical exhibits offer a fascinating glimpse into ancient Incan culture. Visitors can explore the extensive ruins and admire original Incan paint on the walls. The site also provides a great view of the valley. Although local information may be limited, guided tours offer informative insights into the history of this iconic destination.
This was an awesome trip from Paracas with local transport. In Tambo Colorado we met the local staff who was very knowledgeable, ready to explain everything about the Inca culture and answer all our questions. She was very nice and we enjoyed her proffesional approach. The site is well marked with information signs and worth to visit.
Simona S — Google review
Spectacular tour. Overwhelmed by the abilities of these ancient people. I'm sure the climate wasn't as harsh as it is now, but if it was, how did they survive the heat, lack of plantable soil and remoteness.
Red D — Google review
Fascinating archaeological site! The Inca Tambo Colorado ruins are very well preserved and give a great glimpse into Inca architecture and history in the coastal desert. The colors of the walls and the structure are impressive — definitely worth a visit if you love history and culture.
Adrian H — Google review
For the small entry cost (5 soles) this was an amazing place to visit and see the well preserved incan ruins. Guide Alex Arenas was very knowledgeable and did a great job of making the past come back to life for us!

Amazing how well-preserved this inka complex is. Also, there is a great view to the valey. Unfortunatly, it was closed when I arrived, but local guide offered me a small tour, totally worth it!!

Amazing ruins that no one seems to know about. This is a good thing because you have full access to all the areas. You can still see some of the original Incan paint on the walls.

Hacienda Bodega Tacama

Wineries & Vineyards
Spacious & picturesque hacienda producing wine & offering free tours & tastings.
Viña Tacama is like a dream. We have been there 3 times, the third being for our wedding. This place is absolutely magical. The food is to die for, the wine delicious. We had their wine and food at our wedding and the guests loved it. They also have horses and do horse shows with dancers. The venue is perfect whether for a visit to the restaurant, a wine tour or for your special day :)
Sara T — Google review
Beautiful and large winery! Drive in was a little sketchy on a tiny dirt road, all of the sudden you get to a big gate for the winery complex. We took the 1 hour tour, would’ve loved to do the full tour but they said they don’t have any English speaking guide for that, which is unfortunate, they should’ve specified this on their website. The complex and tour was nice, however the tour guide wasn’t very passionate at all.
Maria R — Google review
I visited Tacama Winery with my parents and we had a very pleasant experience. The wine tasting with their sommelier was excellent with a good variety of wines which were all very good. The sommelier was friendly and explained a lot about the different types of wines and the tasting process in general. The stay in their restaurant was great aswell, with good food and good service. Also the tour around the winery itself, the guide and another small tasting were very enjoyable experiences and I personally learned a lot about wine making, the assortments of grapes and the history of Tacama Winery. Overall the personal is very well organised, the place is beautiful and the service is excellent. Of course their wines are just as good. Thanks for the amazing time
Nick — Google review
I had the best red wine I’ve had in my life here- el gran tinto. The causas were literally *chefs kiss*. There are different types of tours, and the traditional takes you through the wine making process as well as 3 cups of wine and one of pisco.
Kat F — Google review
Amazing experience! We celebrated the 30th birthday of one of us here during our stay in Perù. Not only the food was amazing, but the wine as well (both the White and Red wines were superb, comparable in taste and uniqueness to our Italians wines). We also received an unexpected present for the birthday! We would like to thank especially Raphael who was super expert in explaining all the different wines and food and made us appreciate 100% the lunch. We really would like to buy wines online to Italy from this winery.
Lorenzo P — Google review
Beautiful winery. The food was overly abundant and excellent. Ordering a bottle of wine with dinner came with custom explanation of aeration and decanting. The tour was insightful but wished the choice of wines for tasting ranged better across the dry to sweets.
Andrea M — Google review
A very nice experience of some wine tasting and learning about the wine making. Our guide wasn't the most passionate and could have been more engaging. The wine wasn't to my liking, but each to their own! Come here for a lovely day out and I hope you find a wine that takes your breathe away!
TheEagerDiner — Google review
Splendid place to visit in Ica, one of the very first winery in South America. Love the place, which I could share more photos. I was stunningly attached to the guide and histories 😂 without realizing that none of any photo has taken. Food was ok but love the place so 5 star is for “la hacienda” ❤️❤️❤️

El Catador, a popular dining spot in Ica, Peru, is a must-visit for those touring the area. The restaurant offers prompt and attentive service, making it ideal for large groups. The diverse menu features dishes like Chicharron de Cerdo and Fettucine with Lomo Saltado that are both delicious and well-presented. In addition to the food, El Catador also boasts an extensive selection of tasty wines for visitors to sample.
El Viejo Catador was great throughout the whole experience. The wait staff was super friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly. It had great presentation and everything tasted delicious. The restaurant had beautiful decor and it was super clean. Definitely recommend this restaurant if you are touring through Ica. You won't be disappointed!
Yazen F — Google review
Very interesting place to visit in Peru. A wide selection of tasty vines and a good way of tasting them. The prices of dishes in the restaurant are a bit too high for what you get. The taste is okey. The place, if busy, that is most of the time, can be a little noisy and the service in the restaurant doesn't seem to manage it all well.
Stenkustenku — Google review
Cool pisco sour distillery. I wish they gave more samples however. The pisco tasting wad super cheaply done. Not the same experience as wine tasting so I don't recommend it
Mo S — Google review
I'm not sure the name of this restaurant is still the same. But, this is where we stopped during our excursion. When we got here, the place was empty. However, soon after we were seated, the restaurant quickly filled up. I'm guessing this is where all excursions met for food and wine tasting. The service was prompt, especially for our party consisting of 13, very diverse people. We all placed our orders and had our food soon after. We had the Chicharron de Cerdo, Chicharron de Pollo, and the Fettucine with Lomo Saltado. All dishes came with salsa criollo, ricotto. Along with some French fries. The food was good and simply prepared, letting the product speak for itself. For me, the star of the meal was the Chicharron de Pollo! Each bite had so much flavor. The atmosphere was pretty laid back, even though it got pretty busy. The wine tasting consisted of 4 wines and 2 or 3 pisco varieties. Everything was pretty tasty. Be advised that using the restroom here is different than in the United States. For one, there are no paper seat covers for your convenience. Also, toilet paper is not available inside of the stalls. The toilet paper is actually outside of the stall, and you have to get as much as you will need. Additionally, do not flush any paper down the toilet.
Matthew P — Google review
Free tour with Peru Hop. Interesting to know the difference between worldwide wine producers. We had free wine and pisco tasting as well, no hard selling from staff, we bought 2 bottles as these were excellent value. No credit card charges from merchant.
Shame N — Google review
Just outside of Ica, Peru, you can find an authentic distillery for Pisco, a national Peruvian favorite. The tour is an excellent introduction into the production of this wine. The distillation process is explained and after the tour we were all treated to samples of Pisco products, including some made with locally grown fruits. We bought 3 bottles! Please be aware that several months later the fruity varieties have separated and will not re-mix. Hence, took off a star.
Jim M — Google review
Went here as part of our peru hop stop and loved the little lady who took us on the tour around the place and gave us some samplings of their products. Very informative and tasty! Make sure to try their ice creams!
Leena S — Google review
We stopped here with Peru hop. Often at stops like this you feel guilt tripped into buying, but El Catador was awesome. They give you so many testers so you can try before you buy or try simply for the experience. They gave us a short but sweet tour of how they make their Pisco and wine which was really interesting, our guide was amazing, super funny and informative. A good place to stop over and stretch your legs.

If you are passing thru it's an interesting place to stop. Stories about magical powers and legends about witches and warlocks. A place to buy trinkets and what not, something fun to do. There are guides that take you thru the park letting you about it's history for a nominal donation.

A good place with an excellent history. Unfortunately, you cannot enter inside without paying the entrance fee. They said, before it was open publicly but it's private now and have to pay if you want to visit inside this little park. Actually, for me, it's not necessary to go inside, you can see those falm threes outside and take some pictures of it without problem. Recommended to visit.

A really cute park in the town of Ica, Peru that reminded us of the roadside attractions throughout the US in the 50s and 60s, like the largest ball of string, or a cafe that looks like a shoe. Ica is a beautiful pueblito in Peru that has alot of "folksy" attractions. This is representative of that genre. A great little tourist attraction that does not cost anything. I have attached some photos, and a couple of the town nearby. The town was struck by an earthquake a few years ago and is still recovering.
Jim M — Google review
The photos show it all. There are only a few like it in the world. It's in the middle of nowhere in Ica and difficult to find, but it was neat to see! There are good restaurants around. The palms only take like 3-5 minutes to marvel at.

The Regional Museum of Ica Adolfo Bermúdez Jenkins is a small yet impressive museum that offers a valuable collection of archaeological pieces from various ancient civilizations. The artifacts on display include pottery, textiles, and other objects related to the Nasca, Paracas, Huari, and Inca cultures. Visitors can explore real ruins and mummies showcasing the tomb culture near Ica. The museum provides informative displays in both English and Spanish, making it an enriching experience for all visitors.
Beautiful museum, only a 15 minute walk from the Cruz Del Sur bus station and close to the mall. They have a bag drop for travelers. It was only 8 soles per person to enter, and the museum is small but has a little but of everything- ceramics, textiles, mummies, elongated skulls, and a little exhibit about food. I had the epiphany that lima beans are referring to Lima, the city. They have beans in there that are thousands of years old. A must see if you have time in Ica and care about the local culture.

wasn't sure if it was worth it, but beautiful small museum with a collection from Pracas Nazca, Wari and Inca, with the best mummies I've seen in Peru so far

Small and well organized museum. Really interesting artifacts and explanations on display, along with a reproduction of the Nazca lines for those who can't afford or don't have time to visit the lines themselves.

In the center of Ica stands a boring concrete block building that you would normally drive past without even thinking about it. Don't be fooled by the appearance of this museum: the Museo Regional de Ica "Adolfo Bermúdez Jenkins" has a small but excellent collection of artifacts that will give you a good impression of ancient Peruvian cultures. The museum was founded in 1946 by Fernando León de Vivero, Alejandro Pezzia and its namesake Adolfo Bermúdez Jenkins and it was the first museum in Peru to carry out paleontological studies of the archeological remains of indigenous cultures. Between 2011 and 2016, the museum's interior was thoroughly reorganized. The very interesting collection makes a visit definitely worth it!

The construction dates back to the 18th century and was remodeled in 1814. In 2007 it was damaged by an earthquake. The most attractive thing about this cathedral is its wonderful styles on which they are based, on the outside you can see a neoclassical style represented on its façade, as well as figures in high relief on the pediment and on the inside, the baroque style of the pulpit and the altars. The Museo Científico Javier Cabrera in Ica is a truly unique and surprising museum that offers a collection of engraved stones by the gliptoliticos men, providing evidence of a period when superior beings roamed the land. Dr. Javier Cabrera Darquea's collection allows visitors to discover the truth behind these stones, which were found in key burial sites in Ica by ancient inhabitants of Peru. The museum offers an alternative experience to traditional museums, with Mr.
Super interesting! These stones are incredible! They couldn’t have drawn the pictures on these stones without having seen the creatures! Nice visit with Ernesto Cabrera!

You need to call ahead/text on WhatsApp to get in as it is run by a single person. I won't comment on whether I believe in the theory espoused in this museum. 5 stars because I love strange little museums like this and because the owner was very sweet and passionate.

We came to Ica only to see this Museum! We wrote a letter, but nobody answered us. Than we called and go. This place with some awesome energy and interesting information. Mr. Javier told a lection to us, showed stones and accepted to take photos, but not to touch. A lot of his life stories show what kind of men is he. He is a good man :) Some recommendation: before you come to Mr. Cabrera read information about he and his family. It is very useful and interesting!)

I am abiut a year late, but better late than never. My son and I tried to visit this place last April on our was to Naz a from Lima. I had scheduled a car from DayTrip.com with a 1.5 hour stop in Ica so we can see the museum when the opened at 10.00 am. We get there and they were closed. Someone pointed us to call the owner. Basically he wasn't feeling well so the museum was closed. He asked if we could visit in the afternoon which was not possible as our driver could not wait that long. So it was very disappointing. The whole museum shuts dow if one person is not available. That's Very lame. If you decide to go call ahead, which probably would not do us any good either as I had scheduled the car and driver several weeks ahead in advance.
Nas L — Google review
At first, I was hesitant to visit due to the cost of our tour. But after my experience I would say it was well-worth the price. This is not your typical museum, you are greeted by Mr. Cabrera, who owns and operates this museum by himself. Do not expect to be able to see everything, but appreciate his story and his point of view. He has a very interesting perspective and will entertain you if you go in with an open mind. I would recommend this museum to anybody and say that it is the most interesting place you can visit in Ica.
Jack W — Google review
It is not open like other museums. We arrived and found it closed, called the number and man told us he could arrive after 3 hours and the price is 40 soles per person. Had no time to wait.
Mily B — Google review
We don't know about the truth behind the stones, and the extra-terrestrial theories, however the idea of a different human species living at the time of dinosaurs is very interesting. Thought-provoking, mind-bending and a great way to spend an hourish. If you are pleasant, then he is pleasant. Totally agree with his life philosophy and 'secret' to a happy life.
Michele — Google review
One of the most unusual collections of artifacts in thd world perfectly presented by the son of the famous Dr. Javier Cabrera - don Ernesto. When you are so close to those stones - the impression is totally different from any photos.

The Museo de la Memoria, also known as the Museum of Memory, is a haunting museum in Ayacucho that commemorates the impact of Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) in Peru. The museum vividly portrays the city's deep-seated connection to the conflict through eyewitness accounts and poignant displays, including a montage of photos depicting mothers and children affected by the fighting.
Latin America has suffered greatly with all major civil conflicts. It is a great place to know more about the real history of MRTA, Sendero Luminoso and the Armed forces of the Peruvian Government back in the 80s and 90s. Horrible things happened to innocent people: women, children, adults were burned in brick ovens by the Armed forces. Sendero also is responsible for a lot of killings.

As of June 2025, the cost of admission is 5 soles. I was expecting to be there about half an hour but I was actually there for 2 hours. I spent the first hour by myself looking at the exhibits. They have a QR code on the wall that you can use to listen to descriptions in English. They also have written translations on most exhibits. The person in charge gave us approximately 45 minutes of explanation by voice in Spanish. Try to read about what happened during this period in Peru's history and you will enjoy the museum more.

Some really interesting facts, it shows how badly both the Sendero Luminoso and the Peruvian army treated the population back then. It could be a bit more elucidating and a bit more well explained for someone who's new to the subject. I still liked it though.

It was very interesting but i highly reccomend you read about the situation beforehand on the internet for context. Maybe it's because of my limited spanish but it was kind of confusing. It's mostly anecdotes and personal stories, but it doesn't explain how it happened, or how it resolved. Again, interesting, but hard to follow unless you're peruvian and learned about it growing up.

(Translated by Google) The Ayacucho Cathedral (also known as the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Mary) is the principal Baroque cathedral in the city of the same name. It is owned by the Catholic Church and was declared a National Historical and Cultural Heritage of Peru in 1972. [1] [2] Located in the Plaza de Armas, its construction began in 1632 and was completed in 1672. It is the largest cathedral in the country, as it is the main temple. The details of its construction are countless, and one particularly curious one is the presence of two small figures hidden at the top of the bell of the left tower, as if observing the city from above. Overall, the building has three naves, 18 columns supporting eight arches, 16 high vaults, 22 windows, and a beautiful triangular dome with an octagonal base. The architectural style of the façade is Seismicist Baroque. It is the only temple in the city that has three entrance doors on the front, where there are two statues representing the apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul.

(Translated by Google) The imposing Cathedral of Ayacucho, also known as the Basilica Catedral de Santa María, is an outstanding example of colonial architecture and stands directly on the Plaza Mayor – a must-see for art and culture enthusiasts. It was built between 1632 and 1672 by royal decree of the Spanish King Felipe III and declared a national cultural heritage site in 1972. The facade is deliberately simple, but the interior reveals an overwhelming wealth of detail: ten retablos decorated with gold leaf, including the famous retablos of the Virgen de Socos, the Señor de Burgos, and the Niño Llorón.

This mirador really is a wonderful destination and is so close to Ayacucho's city center! We went early in the morning on a weekday and fortunately (in our minds) all of the tourist attractions (carnival/restaurant/event space) were closed and we basically had the place to ourselves. If you plan to walk, you definitely should prepare to go straight up various flights of stairs. There are roads along the way if you want to break up your ascent and go sideways for a bit. Also, you may want to bring something to protect you from the wind; when we went, there wasn't a cloud in the sky but it was definitely chilly. A few things that I liked were that it wasn't overly religious like a lot of other overlooks, and there were various different places to take pictures, very photo-friendly. I also appreciated that it was free!

Lacks of decent loos and adequate parking site. View is by far spectacular and surrounding atmosphere inmerse you into romanticism, too. Dishes offers are various and comparatively its higher prices are not proportional to quality. Souvenirs to be acquired only by cash.

Beautiful and interesting place, where you can find the born of the ayacucho 's retablo. It's a little museum but friendly like a place. The ticket costs 4 soles adults and 2 soles kids. I suggest to visit it

Beautiful place which tells the story of one of the first "maestro de los retablos". It takes you through his life and successes making his art and getting recognized and rewarded for his work. They also have retablos and other pieces of souvenirs / artwork from the region for sale. Relatively small (a tour takes about 30 minutes) but very colorful. Staff is very friendly and competent. Highly recommended!

Museo de Sitio Wari

Archaeological museum
Sights & Landmarks
The Museo de Sitio Wari is an intriguing archaeological site that showcases the ancient Wari civilization, which thrived from 500 to 1100 AC before the Inca. Notably, this pre-Incan town was the most significant in the Andes and served as a capital city between -500 and c-1500. The museum offers a glimpse into this fascinating culture through its underground houses and numerous underground rooms, distinguishing it from other ruins.
This museum contains a lot of history and knowledge. It is a pity that the Peruvian Government does not allocate more budget to continue archaeological research, we have so much to offer the entire world.

Really interesting place. The museum is small but full of history, with ancient artifacts and great info. The ruins nearby make the visit even better. A must if you’re in Ayacucho and want to learn about Peru’s pre-Inca past and the Wari culture.

Very interesting. Only 2% of this site is revealed. Another 1600 acres to be discovered. Wari was the most impotant pre-inca town in the Andes and capital city in the period -500-c-1500

Nice small museum with adjacent archaeological site of the pre-Incan civilization of the Wari. Not many information signs, but cheap guides available

A very overlooked historical site of pre Incan culture. A must see if you are visiting the Ayacucho region. Cheap entry fee.

Wari community existed 500 to 1100 AC before Inca. All houses were built underground. Peruvian archeologists are working on it funded from the income obtained from Inca Trail. There is a large field of cactus around Wari where locals come to harvest Tuna fruits for sale.
Lapsy K — Google review
Very interesting archaeological ruins. They are unusual due to the number of underground rooms.

This was a highlight of the trip. We rented a small van in Ayacucho less than 30USD per day. And we came to this archeological site, very nice, entrance fee was 3soles, less than 1USD. Wari was one the largest Pre inca culture, this site is still on work. but there's plenty to see. It was a nice surprise. There's also a very well conserved mummified lady on their museum. That was very awesome to see. They have very clean restroom services as well. Worth to stop by.
