Well maintained and provides incredible views over Bogota - you appreciate the size and the flatness of the city from above! We hiked up (around 1 hour and 1000+ steps) & hiked back down again. Free entrance. Well maintained paths with small shops on route selling drinks, fruits, foods. There is a market at the top selling lunches and coffee along with local products. It is a busy route. Be aware the route is closed on a Tuesday & the last ascent it 1pm - last descent is 4pm.
Kara H — Google review
Liked the place, used aerial tramway while climbing up, awesome views, nice church, bit crowded though, due to it decided to walk down instead of waiting in the queue for tram. There are small shops available all the way down for snaks & drinks.
Balaji V — Google review
I highly recommend going in the morning and buying tickets in advance online. I went at 10:00 on a weekday, and saved about 20 minutes by skipping the ticket line. When I came down around 11:30, the lines were so long, even if you bought tickets in advance you would still be waiting. This is the only tourist attraction in Colombia I’ve done without vendors hassling the whole time. There is a barricade by the entrance, so once you cross it they’ll leave you alone. There are a handful on the hiking trail, but they are not aggressive at all. This can be a very spiritual experience. There was a church having mass when I went, are there is a Way of the Cross. If you are religious at all, I would encourage you to lean into it and use this time for reflection and worship. If not, you can definitely skip all of the religious stuff. It should go without saying, but it’s 3100m/10,000ft in elevation, so if you live at sea level, be prepared for a very strenuous walk. But there are restaurants and food vendors, so if you need to take a break and get some food or drink, you can.
Nick M — Google review
Highly recommend! Visited on a Saturday afternoon in October and barely had to wait. Took the tram up and the gondola down — I’d definitely suggest that combo. By the time we came down around 5 p.m., there was a long line for the gondola going up. I actually wish I’d planned to walk down; once at the top, I realized it would’ve been a beautiful route. There’s also a lovely church up there with several services throughout the day, very welcoming atmosphere.
M R — Google review
Really enjoyed Monserrate. Cable car was fun and walking down trail took some time and our legs were certainly feeling it the next day. But it was a enjoyable long scenic trail. Make sure to buy advance tickets to avoid long lines. No need to worry about times since no one checks. Just have pre paid tickets. The only warning we can give is DO NOT under any circumstances eat at those small restaurants after local shops. We got terribly sick later in day. Yes, they have amazing views but the food not only made us sick but was horrible, and not fresh. ONLY eat at the 2 main restaurants to avoid any problems. You have been warned!
RDA — Google review
Monserrate is one of Bogotá’s most breathtaking landmarks—towering at roughly 3,152 meters, it offers a stunning vantage point over the city. You can reach the top by foot, funicular, or cable car, all leading to a peaceful neo-Gothic church called the Sanctuary of the Fallen Lord. Once there, enjoy panoramic city views, grab a bite in one of the small restaurants, or browse local artisan stalls. It’s a powerful mix of natural beauty, spiritual calm, and cultural heritage.
Manikandan — Google review
Sure the view is amazing and the area offers beautiful bird walks and a nice Cafe Santa Clara! But: 1) they close the stairs down at 4.15pm so you have to take one of the other options. 2) they close the funicular at the same time which means an hour in line on the weekend. Or... Go to Santa Clara and have a drink and watch birds until the line shrinks after 17:30.
Wouter B — Google review
Worth the drive, although you must pay attention to how the navigation takes you to the parking lot. The view is great, there’s also a bunch of places to get coffee and a bite.

The Gold Museum, located in the historic city center of Bogota, is a contemporary structure that houses an extensive collection of pre-Columbian gold, ceramics, and stones. It is home to over 34 thousand pieces made of gold and tumbaga, showcasing the art and goldsmithing used by various indigenous communities in Colombia.
Much richer than expected. The museum offers a wide range of well-presented exhibits, with clear explanations through both the audio guide and display texts. I took a slow, thorough walk through and spent about 6 hours. Highlights: 1) gold and other metalworking techniques; 2) artifacts and decorations from different regions of Colombia; 3) offerings and their ritual significance. A deeply rewarding visit.

Great big museum in Bogota... Good location... One of the main things and attraction to see when you in this city and all Colombia ... The entrance is 5000 pezos, about 1euro...its cheap...Museum is on 3 floors..They are open every day except Monday until 6pm... There you can see all Colombian history... Also you can see some videos in few rooms... So much pieces of gold, neckles, rings, crowns..In the basement you can buy some unique things.. Sometimes it's very crowded... All recommendations for visit and enjoy if you are in Bogota
VLAJKO P — Google review
A wonderful place to visit to get an idea of aboriginal culture of gold making and their ingenuity and craftsmanship. Some pieces are so delicately made with in such small details that it is unbelievable how they could achieve this. You'll learn a lot about metal and gold craftsmanship and the beliefs and culture of the people who occupied the land before European colonization. In regards to accessibility, easy access for all with elevators and easy guide signs. Translation in English were available, and was possible to get audio guide. In August 2025, it was free on Sundays for attendance.

The Restaurant...thats all ill say! The museum is insightful to the norms of the areas and some insight to their industrious ways to create tools and jewelry. Also their awareness of surrounding or impeding cultures. But the Restaurant took the cake! Waitstaff was so nice and helpful. The runner for the food was so polite and considerate. Our waitress was sweet and on it! Again, the museum is dope but the Restaurant took the cake! And not the Cafe....the restaurant. Im not sure what the Cafe has because we never made it there. We had the salmon salad ( amazing greens choice and cooking style...roasted bits added depth and texture) and the pumpkin curry...just so frigging good ( roasted pumpkin rib like is was a salmon slab...curry with a wonderful balance of coconut cream and spices and the coconut rice was perfectly baked with coconut flavored and tiny fluffy pillows of savoriness)...and the tangerine juice...great museum! Definitely would stop pass!
Shalana U — Google review
A beautiful and informational museum with a lot of history about Gold and the generations of many Colombian tribes and the significance of many symbolism and it's meaning all explained well. It's a gorgeous and humbling experience. I wish there was a little bit more to interact with but overall it's definitely worth a visit.
Robbie L — Google review
Many pieces of arts and introduction, we don’t have much time to read every detail, I saw someone is using kind of earphone to listen to voice explanation, look good. But just don’t know where to rent? How many languages it has. Sunday is free to entrance, very worthy to visit.
Lily C — Google review
A nice quiet place, it's wonderful how history and indigenous stories have been told through gold. There is a nice restaurant in there as well.
Allan C — Google review
We visited this museum while exploring Bogotá. We visited during a weekend and there was a line in front of the building. It took about 10 minutes to get in. The entrance fee is quite low. The museum itself is quite big with multiple floors. Most information is in Spanish and English. When we visited it was quite busy and sometimes there were too many people to properly enjoy the collections. However, there were many impressive artefacts and we were glad we saw them to better understand Colombian history and culture. There is also a gift shop and a coffee shop in the basement. This is a perfect place to visit on a rainy day.

Botero Museum

Art museum
Museums
The Botero Museum, located in a colonial mansion in the heart of Bogota's Historic Center, is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. The museum showcases an extensive collection of works by Colombian artist Fernando Botero, known for his larger-than-life art. Donated to the state by the artist himself, the museum maintains Botero's original arrangement from its inauguration in 2000.
If you appreciate art, the Botero Museum is a must-visit while in Bogotá. It’s a beautiful and unique space that highlights Fernando Botero’s iconic oversized paintings and sculptures. The museum also includes works by legendary artists like Picasso, Monet, and Degas. Admission is completely free, the space is very clean, and the staff is friendly. Just be sure to keep your distance from the artwork. The layout is easy to walk through and doesn’t take long, so if you’re in the La Candelaria area, it’s definitely worth stopping by.
Interpreter — Google review
Really great museum! I didn't realize how much work Botero had done, and it's not all paintings. There are sculptures as well as pencil work in this collection. There is a nice courtyard in the middle of the museum (I was told the building us nearly 250 years old). The garden had a nice fountain and there is plenty to do if you want to grab a bite to eat or a cup of coffee. Bathrooms available.
Nrgriffi6565 — Google review
Did not know Botero, enjoyed his style which is rather unique. The bronze sculptures do provoke a smile. Donated other paintings from Picasso and Max Ernst beside others. Happy to have visited this free museum. Recommended!!
Peter J — Google review
To truly appreciate Ferdinand Botero’s wry sense of humor unique artistry is to see up close in person a large body of his artwork including his sculptures housed together in this museum. Extra bonus is his private collection of internationally famous artists from Picasso to Giacometti. Free admission to not just locals but also to foreigners which to my mind reflects the non judgemental ways and generous spirit of the Columbian people.
Serena C — Google review
Beautiful museum with a beautiful story. It’s also free due to the man who it’s named after. Worth a visit
Spencer F — Google review
This is an amazing museum you can visit for free in Bogotá. The collections of Botero (and others) are displayed here for everyone to see. It is a great place to relax for a moment and enjoy the art. The works of Botero are quite amusing to look at. The museum has a beautiful open courtyard with a relaxing ambience. There are toilets present. There are multiple museums connected to the backside of the building. This place is really worth a visit!
Sam H — Google review
Remarkable collection of Botero and works from his private collection. Don’t miss the temporary exhibition gallery above the excellent cafe. Oh and the entry is Free.
Don P — Google review
The Botero Museum is a cultural gem in the heart of Bogotá. Its collection not only showcases some of Fernando Botero’s most iconic works but also includes pieces by great international masters such as Picasso, Dalí, Renoir, and Miró. Admission is free, making it a must-visit for both tourists and locals. The atmosphere is calm, the galleries are well maintained, and it’s the perfect place to enjoy art at your own pace. A space that beautifully blends history, art, and beauty in every corner.

Valle De Cocora is a delightful destination for those looking to immerse themselves in the stunning beauty of the Cocora Valley. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views while savoring delicious food, particularly their renowned trout dishes, which have received rave reviews. Although some found the prices on the higher side for Colombian standards, many felt that the quality justified it. The restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere with friendly staff who provide excellent service.
Beautiful views and delicious food! I came here with my family and we had a wonderful experience. Our waitress, Jissel Molina, went above and beyond she truly made our visit special. We will be retuning.
Dee _ — Google review
We had lunch here after a hike up the mountainside. We were all a bit disappointed by the food. We had heard that the area was famous for their fish, but it was honestly nothing special. As for drinks, their lemonade de coco was just bad. We didn’t even drink the two we ordered. The service was friendly enough, though they seemed rather absent. Overall, I’d try another place next time I go.
Michael P — Google review
Food was bad. This is the first time that I couldn’t finish what was ordered. Best thing was chorizo, the Trucha was nothing special, and the steak was overcooked and tasted bad (seems like it was of a poor quality). We would have left attributing this to a tourist experience but what was disappointing was the feeling that there was something dishonest happening. We were asked to pay cash for a menu item that was left off our bill. Not sure if this is a common occurrence in Valle Cocoro, but I’ve never had to pay cash for a menu item when the other items were paid by card.
Isaac L — Google review
This is a MUST!! The food was absolutely outstanding, the steak was all fresh and served in a platter that kept the food hot. The service received from our server, Daniela Duque, was absolutely outstanding. She suggested an amazing passion fruit dessert and was always attentive to our needs. This is the second time we come and will continue to come.

Food was amazing, the service outstanding. Herney took really good care of us, he was kind and helpful, the company is lucky to have him as an employee.
Diana G — Google review
We ordered a punta de angus black and it was the worst meat I’ve had it wasn’t cooked how I ordered maybe because it was just fat and hard the knife couldn’t cut through it, to be the most expensive item on the menu it was easily the worst I wouldn't give it to my dog, the rest of the food was alright but nothing special the service was good but wouldn’t return just for the service.

Water & Amusement Parks
Coffee theme park with eateries & attractions, including rides, shows & educational exhibits.
Awesome place for the family, you will love this place whether you like coffee or not, the place is huge so you better bring sunscreen, comfy clothes and good shoes for walking. There are attractions where you will get wet, so wearing clothes that dry quickly is key. Try using the lockers in a central part of the park to store your stuff if you plan to live the full experience.
Samir S — Google review
Awesome theme park. If you really want to enjoy it, this have to be a full day run. On weekends it's really crowded, so try to get as early as you can. The best parts: the train, horse rides, no one smoking and lots of sunrays.
Mauricio T — Google review
Great park to visit with family or friends. It’s stroller friendly, lots of activities for the kids, make sure they are tall enough for the rides. More than 90cm. Being extra clothes and shoes because there are water attractions that you can easily get soaked. Good sunscreen and hats for all.
Estrella B — Google review
Fantastic experience of nature, attractions, coffee flavors and culture, art, landscapes and of course Colombian warmth and hospitality. We had a great time, savored coffee like never before, danced and rejoiced at the folklore show, relaxed walking along the trails. It was a blast.

Amazing amazing experience. There is something for everyone, you can easily do everything in 1 day. By far one of the best folklore shows I have seen and like everyone says, you cannot miss it. The reviews do not lie.

Parque del Café in Quindío is a must-visit destination to enjoy with family or friends 🎢☕. It combines fun, coffee culture, and beautiful landscapes all in one place. The weather is warm, so it’s advisable to wear light clothing and stay hydrated 💧👒. Among its attractions are roller coasters, a cable car, and tours that highlight the history and tradition of Colombian coffee. A truly unique experience you shouldn’t miss!
Naila J — Google review
We had a very fun day at the park. We’re 4 adults and we came for coffee but the park is so much more. It’s a cultural experience and there’s a lot of fun rides to do as well. I can recommend the coffee show, take a stroll in the bamboo park, ofcourse take the teleferico for beautiful views, the train is fun, all the water rides are fun but prepare to get absolutely soaked. The coffee museum in the beginning is a must and the sensory room at the end completes the whole thing. For food I can recommend the oriental place at the food mall near the tree boat ride. Although there are more options at the plaza bolivar (there’s even a Subway). Get your coffee at Juan Valdez or try a granizado. The horse ride is fun (and a complementary $15,000) but a bit boring. I would do it again though! We didn’t expect to spend almost all day here. It’s very fun for kids too and people of all ages. We didn’t try any of the thrill rides like the rollercoasters but they look like a lot of fun. There’s almost no lines to wait for the rides and there’s lockers near the water rides to keep your stuff safe and dry.
Myrthe G — Google review
Great amusement park and great views of coffee plantations. The “coffee show” is a well performed act that takes you on a journey through the coffee regions of Colombia. Fairly priced well maintained.

Zoológico de Cali, also known as Cali Zoo, is a renowned zoological park located in the city of Cali, Colombia. Established in 1969 and spanning over 20 hectares, it is home to a diverse collection of wildlife from around the world. The zoo is celebrated for its commitment to wildlife conservation and offers visitors the opportunity to observe animals in naturalistic environments.
We came to visit the zoo all the way from Arizona, USA. I have nothing but great things to say about our experience here. The zoo is very beautiful and very cleanly kept. Everyone was nice and we had an amazing time. Our family had an amazing time. I would highly recommend this zoo.

It is more than 20 years that I come every year to Cali but for one reason or another I've never been able to visit the zoo. I have to make a premise: It is a relatively small zoo but very well maintained with very instructional legendas. We spent 5 hours and really enjoyed our time.
Giovanni V — Google review
Loved the visit to this zoo with my girlfriend. So many amazing animals to see and they are all well taken care of. The exhibitions are also decorated in a very cute way. It’s 50k pesos for foreigners but it’s totally worth it
Daniel H — Google review
Great place to go with all ages! Lots of animals from all across the world and even a tiger! A nice route to follow across and useful information on conservation efforts made in the area. There are a lot of friendly zoo keepers around who are informative in their areas and are willing to answer any questions you want. Shop worth going to as well with hand painted t-shirts that they sell.

It was my first time to Columbia and my wife took me on an adventure to Cali. The atmosphere, architecture and the animal displays are fantastic. I highly recommend going to the zoo in Cali, Columbia.
Brad F — Google review
Amazing, very well taking care and animal and people have beautiful surroundings.
C D — Google review
This place was fun! Lots of animals, some native to Colombia, lots of historical information around. I was excited to see the oso-con-anteojos, which I got to see but the bear kept pacing in the corner. Not sure what was going on, my son was excited see the bear, and the monkeys, lions, and.. bear. :)
Carlos M — Google review
Although I’m not a fan of zoos, I believe animals are not meant to live in cages, I have to admit that this one is beautifully designed. They’ve created a whole story around it, and the way you move through the exhibits has an Amazonian-style vibe that makes the experience quite unique

Tatacoa Desert, located in the north of the Huila department, is a surreal landscape characterized by arid red stone canyons and unique rock formations. It is the second largest arid zone in Colombia and offers a stargazer's paradise with optimal conditions for astronomical observation. The desert features grey and ochre colors along with green cactuses, creating an otherworldly scene.
Incredible nature, breathtaking. You can go alone but I would recommend taking a tour or a guide. Lots of tourists were risking damaging the environment or themselves as not knowing the local area. Harsh conditions but some of the best views.

Been wanting to go there ever since I learned that Colombia has a desert 🏜️🌵. Was not disappointed, truly lived up to the hype. The red desert was my favorite. There are many things to explore and experience. The observatory, the selfie park, restaurants, horseback riding, all are superb. We drove far back into the desert and there were many animals we saw as well as bird watching. I’d definitely make this trek again.

Wonderful place! Get ready for extrem hot weather and lots of sun! Use a cap, sneakers, water and comfortable clothes is key to survey the walk successfully. The entrance is free, there are options if you want a guided tour, they have their own motorcycle for transportation and you can follow them by car.
Jackeline G — Google review
You can go by yourself if you have a car! Several options to eat and enjoy. Highly recommend before the sunrise or at golden time to enjoy the sunset and then the stars. Is a magical place, sometimes the dry forest of this desert looked more green because of the rain.

Beautifull! Just Beautifull! I was not easy to get here, but i am so happy that i took the time to visit this gorgious dessert. Important, take enough water with you, even on a cloudy day. Apply lot's of sunscreen even when it rains.

Incredible place!! I went with a tour from backpackers & travellers hostel in Neiva and it was a wonderful experience. Some sand flies at night but definitely worth visiting. It’s like a mini-utah. The grey desert is also quite wonderful with unique slot canyon formations all around. Take advantage of the nature here before it disappears due to weather effects on the red desert!

The deserts are super beautiful, but it's rather small. The observatory we went to was not at all good. You just sat on the roof of a building and got an explanation of some things, but nothing really new. Not worth the 10 000.

San Agustín Archaeological Park

Ancient Ruins
San Agustín Archaeological Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site that offers a fascinating glimpse into the ancient civilizations of Colombia. Nestled in the hills surrounding the quaint town of San Andrés de Pisimbala, this park features impressive funeral mounds and intricate pre-Columbian sculptures that reflect the spiritual connection these cultures had with nature, particularly water and wildlife like jaguars and eagles.
Just an incredible place full of tombs and statues set in a mainly jungle setting that requires quite a bit of hiking to see everything but the rewards are rich indeed. Like may people I suspect, I only knew about this place vaguely but was hugely impressed on my visit. The numerous statues are in fantastic shape considering the age of them, probably because they were buried for so long. I recommend hiring one of the older local guides as they can relate so much history and point out so many features you would most likely miss were you to go on your own. Allow 3 to 4 hours to visit to get the most out of the park. Entrance fees are well worth it and also cover additional sites that are also worth visiting but you'll likely need to do those on a tour if you don't have your own car.

Amazing place to view history and the statues these groups created. Worth the money. The $65000 that people complain about covers three parks which is great value. Please go and see these spectacular monuments.

Amazing place. If you come to Colombia you must visit San Agustin and San Agustin Archaeological Park. Amazing history and amazing introduction to the. culture of Colombia.
Mark S — Google review
We expected more from our visit, first, its expensive, the museum with its statues and pottery is a must see to understand more about the rest you will see on your walk. The burial sites and statues are very interesting. The carved out place by the river with its bamboo bridge is very special and one of the highlights. If you follow the staircase up to the last burial site your will find an excellent open restaurant fillid with miscellanous mixture of music and souvenirs. The empanadas and cane sugar juice were delighting. Across it is another place thats belongs to the same family and sells homemade icecream.
Peter J — Google review
The sculptures are interesting, but little information about them survive, which leaves open the possibility of "creative" interpretation such as the one we heard from a guide today. We were regaled with stories about Atlantis and Egypt and pygmies and seemingly anything but the factual local information - real woo woo stuff. These questionable interpretations by our guide reflected poorly on the site and detracted from our experience, which was otherwise pleasant.
Layne M — Google review
The largest necropolis in the world is in Colombia! Hundreds if not thousands of stone sculptures, and most of them still buried, is a small sample of the great civilization that settled in these lands thousands of years ago. I went with my wife and my 10-11 year old children and it was one of the best trips in my life. Colombians, let's value this kind of treasures, and foreigners are very welcome to visit this marvel. A few tips: Hire one of the local guides of the park, arrive early, bring hydration, good shoes, there are 3 more parks, this is the main one if you don't have much time at least go to the idol park. Oh and bring the best disposition to know this beautiful place.
Miguel N — Google review
The park is pretty nice and I can recommend it for every tourist who is interested in archeological topics. However, the price of 65k is way too much, compared to other sights in Colombia. It would be nice to have a cheaper ticket option for this park only, because many tourists only stay for one day and are not interested in the other parks that are quite far away.
Chris S — Google review
We're always looking for places that allow dogs. Probably the best one we've found. Hours are entry hours are 8-3 but you can stay in the park until 5.

Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Las Lajas

Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
The National Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Las Lajas is an ornate 18th-century Gothic-style Catholic church and museum, renowned as a pilgrimage site. Situated in Ipiales, Colombia, near the border with Ecuador, it offers a captivating experience for visitors. Accessible by collectivo from the bus station, the area boasts free entry to the church and its surroundings. Additionally, there's an optional museum and a cable car offering stunning views for a nominal fee.
Currently in Ipiales before our journey to Ecuador, we explored the Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Las Lajas (The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary of Las Lajas), an ornate 18th-century Gothic-style Catholic church and museum renowned as a pilgrimage destination. We arrived at the cathedral via Uber, leisurely walked and admired the scenery, and attended a mass. Although we spent around three hours there, two hours would suffice. Upon departure, we took the cable car, costing 17,000 pesos, up the hill. The 18-minute ride covers 1.4 km. It's a remarkable site that I highly recommend visiting if you're in the vicinity of Ipiales. 3btraveler

Free entrance, Easy to reach in 15min from Ipiales. Nice simple church build in the rock. Interesting also the underground museum (5.000 pesos) You can walk around, down to the river, you have a nice path. Or stay around, go the the waterfall in the front
Simona A — Google review
This was the main reason for our trip. Unfortunately what should be a holy site has turned into a tourist trap. The priests have to get this under control. The museum access is down several flights of stairs and that is really no problem except when the museum is closed for lunch and there is no sign at the top of the staircase so you made the trip for nothing. Too commercial. Sad.
T B — Google review
Great place to visit! Only recommend to have lunch before. There is only one restaurant on the top, a bit pricey and not many varieties. Good shoes for walking and great camera !!

It's a nice place during the night since you can appreciate the lights however this place is lacking maintenance and you can see the place need more attention. There's dog feces , garbage ... Very sad ... I believe this place should charge an entry fee to use this money to maintain the place ..
GaB S — Google review
The place has lots of small food and souvenir stands as well as picnic places and paths around the the river. There are lots of dogs that wait for food. The place is a beautiful wedding scenery and suitable for other festivities or small family gatherings. The Teleferico takes 20min one way and costs 30k pesos round trip, they also accept USD (we paid 6.85$ per person). Parking costs 1USD or 4 pesos.
Alexandra K — Google review
No doubt this is place is absolutely lovely, is really small once you are there, but the setup is beautiful. Worth to visit, get into the museum and spend the 10 mins watching the video, well worth it. Do Not take the cable car, is the slowest on earth, expensive and the views are nothing special.
Ernesto G — Google review
Beautiful architecture! Full of history and gorgeous views. The sanctuary has a museum that is about 2 us dollars or so, and it has pre-colombino pieces, history on the architecture and how it was built, and a piece of the religious aspect. It was informative and very culturally rich! When you arrive to las lajas sanctuary, you will walk for about 30 minutes down until you find the sanctuary. Recommendations: -Not wheelchair accessible -pets are allowed -if you are catholic, you can buy souvenirs and the prist will bless them during mass. -bring water and snacks -eat at the lajas restaurant

Visitors can find an array of goods such as tapestries, blankets, sweaters, ponchos, belts, statues, jewelry, flowers, rugs and baskets. On Saturdays, the market expands from the main square to nearby streets offering a wide variety of items for sale.
The Otavalo Market is here and also on surrounding streets. Multiple stalls selling clothes and various souvenirs, as well as fruits, veggies spices etc. Lively and colourful

A typical outdoor market, but larger than most. Lots of touristy items that are mass produced and not artisanal as I expected. Only a few items of true artisanal quality.

This place was a riot of colors, vendors and just lovely stuff all around! We went to the Saturday market and there were dozens of vendors selling all sorts of interesting things. The prices are pretty steep but it's a great experience to be amidst the lovely Chaos! I highly recommend this place if you want to get a flavor of the local culture.

Plaza de Ponchos is Otavalo’s main square where local artisans gather to trade their goods with visitors. “The fair” used to be only on Saturdays, but now you can find artisans every day of the week. There is a vast variety of products ranging from high quality handcrafts to inexpensive souvenirs. My personal favorites are the necklaces and the hand-woven textiles. This is one of Ecuador’s must-see places, make sure to take your time walking around if you get the opportunity.

Great place, full of beautiful handcrafted gifts. You can find ornaments, clothing, jewelry, musical instruments, anything. The best time to visit the Plaza is early in the morning around 8am. Prices sometimes can be little high but they accept fair offers. This is is must visit when you visit Ecuador.
Magali S — Google review
If you are looking for everything and more with Ecuadorian culture, this is the place! They have delicious food, amazing clothing, and great location so you don't get lost! I could buy things for myself, leisure, and clothes for a baby at affordable prices!

Lots of time can be spent walking around this market. There are many items available to purchase. There are street food vendors offering a variety of items for sale. It is very important to negotiate prices. For example, I purchased a belt for $7USD. By the end of the negotiations, I paid $7USD. The market vendors are very friendly and willing to negotiate on the prices. In my experience in the market I felt very safe walking around and socializing with the people. At the end of my visit I was fortunate enough to see an indigenous parade. This was a celebration of marriage. I was pretty excited to see this. I would definitely recommend this place. The people are nice and friendly and the prices are very reasonable. The selection of products is also quite good.

Museo Templo del Sol Pintor Cristobal Ortega Maila is a cultural museum showcasing Ecuadorian art, history, and indigenous culture. The imposing stone building was designed by artist Ortega Maila and features pieces that delve into Andean heritage. Visitors can explore the rich history and art of Ecuador while admiring the work of the renowned painter Alvaro Ortega.
Awesome museum of indigenous inspired artworks by Malia Ortega. There are lots of paintings, representing an entire gamut of motifs, mostly focusing on beauty and nature. The guided tour is a must. Very informative, and at the same time not too busy. Doing the pre-tour ritual, the magnetic/balance exercises and the meditation were all included, and it was an awesome experience.

Loved this hidden gem of a place. We just ran into it and were grateful for it. The artist was there, painted for us and drank tea with us. He was so humble and nice. The store inside has a lot of great items, and his art is amazing. He paints only with his hands. Would visit again.

The best attraction in Quito! Such a unique quirky temple adorned with the fabulous paintings & sculptures of the Ecuadorian artist Juan Ortega. We also got a guided tour in English, a cup of Coca tea & if you go at the weekend you get to meet the charismatic artist himself, watch him paint a painting in 5 mins, and sample his delicious bottled liquor. Bargain. Do not miss this attraction!
Nonny — Google review
Would have been nice if the meditation was longer if they gave information about the history of the place . It was very much centred around selling products
Ashira R — Google review
Really interesting place, worth to go. The entrance was 4$. Inside you can buy aromatic oiles, coca leaves, mineral stones and well - painting of master Ortega. We went during weekend and Ortega was there, we could speak to him and he painted a piece of art with fingers in 3 minutes, just in front of us. The only thing I missed was passion of guides, they were reciting monologues by heart, and there was no time for asking questions and we had a lot of them because the tour was full of amazing experiments.
Milena M — Google review
Very interesting museum that is a work of art itself, feels like entering an ancient temple. Admission is $4 for locals, $6 for gringos. Parking is $1 (shared parking lot with volcano hiking and several gift shops). It was definitely a bit of a money-making enterprise. Don't take the demonstrations too seriously, it's a sales pitch, but still fun. Cristobal Ortega Maila was an extremely prolific and talented artist who worked with many kinds of media, from painting in different styles to sculpture to architecture, much of it rooted in ancient local cultures and traditions, and it is all showcased here. But more than just the art, there is also a presentation (in Spanish) that begins at the top of the tower, describing ancient natural herbal medicine (with samples!), then moving downstairs to explore the design of the building (like many ancient temples would have been) as a way to keep track of the movements of the sun throughout the year, and also of course to pay homage to the sun god Init. The presentation ended in the gift shop with a relaxing aromatherapy session with musical instruments to simulate the sounds of Nature while breathing different scents. All the products demonstrated were available for sale.
Elysia R — Google review
Totally worth the visit, I recommend this place. The meditation chamber is an awesome treat. They sell really affordable bracelet's, charms and souvenir's. The tea offered is an energizing potion. I really enjoyed my time there. This is a great opportunity, place for taking pictures. The art work is incredibly breathtaking. Stop by and get a feel of an ancient time in a modern world.

The Intiñan Equator Museum, located in San Antonio de Pichincha, is a fascinating day trip destination. Situated at what is believed to be the exact location of the equator, the museum offers an array of exhibits and science experiments related to this unique geographical feature. Visitors can explore a diverse collection of archaeological artifacts from various cultures and enjoy informative guided tours that delve into Ecuador's ecosystems and indigenous peoples.
Interesting museum located over the equator. It has a number of displays about Ecuadorian indigenous cultures, as well as the Amazon and tropical regions. But the real attractions is it's location over the equator - can do interesting activities with a compass, and they have demonstrations of various phenomena (these are just little tricks...) including the coriolis effect which is fun to see!
Mert K — Google review
If you really want to stand on the equator, this is the place to go - a cute little museum that provides a compact overview of Ecuadorian culture and a very clear scientific explanation of the position on the zero meridian. Well worth a visit.
Michael L — Google review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) Google Review – Intiñan Museum (GPS 0°0’0”) The Intiñan Museum is where the equator becomes more than just a line on a map. It’s a more immersive, interactive, and cultural experience that complements the grandness of Mitad del Mundo. What I Loved Official GPS equator line: This is the accurate 0°0’0” location. It adds authenticity for people who care about geography, GIS, and cultural heritage. Hands-on experiments & demonstrations: Balancing eggs, watching water drain differently on each side of the equator, learning about magnetism, seeing how shadows behave differently — these make it fun and educational. Great for videos showing experiments. History & indigenous culture: The museum does well explaining pre-colonial and indigenous perspectives, myths, and scientific (astronomical, geographical) understanding of the equator. Guides are knowledgeable. Smaller crowds & more depth: Because it’s less commercial, the atmosphere is calmer. Better for those who want to learn, reflect, take their time. What to Know / Tips Tab US$5 entry as well. Plan about 1.5-2 hours if you want to do all the experiments, speak with guides, view exhibits, and take photos/videos. Bring water, a light jacket (often breezy or cooler at the equator point), comfortable shoes. Weather may change quickly. Best moments for video: capture experiments, close-ups of how water behaves, the official GPS plaque/marker, the guide’s commentary, and exterior shots of nature and landscape. If you’re photographing, macro shots of trees, insects near the museum environment, plus wide shots showing the equatorial line and exhibits.
Chris V — Google review
The guides are super friendly and make the visit fun and informative, explaining everything about the equator, science, and local culture. We saw cool experiments like watching water swirl differently on each side of the equator. I even balanced a raw egg on a metal nail at the 0°0’0’’ line and got a certificate for it! The true 0°0’0’’ spot is in the parking lot of this museum. Highly recommend for a unique mix of culture, science, and fun!
Anastasia B — Google review
My fd and I didn't have enough time to stay and check out everything. The staff were very accommodating knowing that we have a flight to catch and can only spend 10-15mins. We went to the water experiments and the sun dial area right away. It's good to finally find the scientifically proven equator after going to 2 other locations which also claimed they are on the equator.
B L — Google review
The displays and entrance were very nice and welcoming, and some discussions and displays are cool, including shows of local flora and fauna, but that's where my positive reviews end. There's so much to say about the equator and Quito's unique proximity to it that it is highly disappointing that much of this place seems to play tourists for stupid. First, no, their display and monument is NOT the true equator; that is much closer to the main road of the entrance. Second, while the Coriolis Effect does introduce unique phenomena to Earths weather and that near Quito, it does not cause eggs to balance on nails, it does not make water switch directions down drains, or cause you to lose your balance. This was half of the paid tour... as a science teacher who is passionate about weather, GPS coordinates, so much cool stuff is left out for gimmicks that cater to the gullible tourists. It's a waste of talent and resources at best, and mis-education at worst.
T D — Google review
Unique and worth the fee. Supposedly the more accurate 0"0" and the ticket comes with a free tour in English or Spanish. If you manage to balance an egg on a nail you get a certificate :)

Additionally, visitors can explore the Inti Nan Museum to learn about the scientific and cultural aspects of the Equator Line.
Is it a tourist trap, yes, but it's the middle of the world, and I'm a tourist. Amazing views and not that crowded, maybe I got lucky, but there were not many people. Rising above the equatorial line, this monument marks a symbolic ‘middle of the world’ location and offers a rich mix of history, views, food, shopping, and photo opportunities. --- What I Loved Iconic photo opportunities: The large yellow line, the monument structure itself, the views overlooking Quito — perfect for snapshots, panoramas, and drone shots. Amenities & food: There are several restaurants, cafés, and snack stands. Good variety of local food and more international options. Great if you plan to spend several hours. Planetarium & exhibits: The planetarium here is well-done — interactive shows and nice lighting make it a good complement to walking around the grounds. Shops and crafts: Plenty of souvenir shops and artisan stalls. Good for picking up Ecuadorian handicrafts, hats, local textiles. Self-guided strolls: The area is easy to walk around. Paths are clear, there are many vista points. Landscape gardens make for nice video walk-throughs. --- What to Know / Tips Admission is US$5 (a common theme in both places), and it’s worth budgeting 2-3 hours here, especially if you eat or shop. Best visited in the morning or late afternoon to avoid midday heat and harsh sunlight in photos. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat, and good walking shoes. Even though paths are paved in many parts, there are some uneven or steeper stairs. If you like video content, walking through the monument, going up to observation decks, capturing the planetarium show, and filming the food/restaurants are good shots. Wide shots of the monument and of people crossing the equatorial line are very shareable. Overall Verdict For the price and what you get, Mitad del Mundo offers a well-rounded blend of tourism, culture, food, and photo ops. It’s less detailed in terms of science and experiments, but it makes up for that with convenience, comfort, and visual appeal. Highly recommend if you have limited time in Quito and want the iconic middle-of-the-world experience.

It is a must-see if you come to Quito, Ecuador we took the double decker bus with jump on jump off stops. The middle of the world was fun. Great restaurants. Great souvenirs at reasonable prices.

An awesome place with family or friends. The staffs are generally great except the entrance ticket checking security guy asked me to buy another ticket after I walked out for two hours comeback... but anyway, a great place with friendly staff.
Leo L — Google review
Total tourist trap, yet so totally worth it. We had a great time exploring the area. There are about 10 museums and things to participate in that are included in the admission. The monument offered history on the area. Lots of little shops to buy souvenirs. We learned that the further back in you go the prices are cheaper. I thoroughly enjoy the visit.

The best butterfly garden I have been to hands down. This place was huge and very well crafted. I love that they will teach you how to safely pick up a butterfly. It was educational and happy for the soul at the same time. Go if you get a chance.
Bert S — Google review
The butterfly garden is fantastic. I found photographing them worked better when it was overcast rather than sunny. The cafe was the most gorgeous Cafe I've seen anywhere, full of flowers at every table. The food was good and the price wasn't too high.

Wonderful butterfly farm. Great short lecture on lifecycle of butterflies. Watch them work out of their chrysalis. Then enter a netted room where they gain their strength as their wings dry out and they snack on fruit before they're released. The best surprise for me was the feeding platforms for the beautiful wild birds that came to eat. I didn't have time to go on a bird-watching tour oh, but I don't feel like I missed anything now . All the windows of the restaurant had good views of feeding stations. The food in the restaurant was excellent. Watching the birds was priceless.

What a beautiful place, the butterfly garden was such an experience! But not only the garden is beautiful, the premises are also lovely, great drinks and tasty food, and all with very fair prices. A must go when in Mindo, highly recommended! Plan your visit so that you can have lunch there, it is really worth it.

A paradise for Butterflys and human. I loved this place so much. First you get a Brief introduction into the life cycle where they let you see and Touch some . Then you enter this beautiful place where you can Feedback the butterflies. There is also a restaurant and a nice little Shop with Things to buy.
Mag. M — Google review
Quite an interesting place, about 4 km from the centre of the village. There are many varieties of butterflies and a short explanation about the metamorphosis of butterflies. I hope that the new place they are building will be finished soon, because the old place is quite small and nice, but you could say that the cost is much higher for the kind of service offered.
John J — Google review
Experience butterflies up close like you never thought was possible. They give a short explanation about their life cycle and demonstrate with samples of the ones that they study and breed. After that you enter a netted area with hundreds of butterflies which you can feed with bananas as they stand on your hand. Beautiful experience!
Dan H — Google review
The mariposeria was nice to see. The visit starts with an explanation of the breeding process. This was quick to the point, and informative. Than you can walk the butterfly garden, which is quite small and there aren't many different species. It is quite nice though. After the butterfly garden you have access to an open garden with two huge bamboo towers, quite impressive and a small hummingbird sanctuary. This was very nice to see. There is a little gift shop, a restaurant we did not visit, and a coi fish pond. For a quarter you can feed the fish. Cute for the kids.

The TelefériQo Cable Car offers a thrilling ride to the top of a mountain, providing access to high-altitude hikes and stunning panoramic views. Situated on the hills west of the capital, this ski-lift-type gondola takes visitors to a lofty vantage point, offering an unparalleled perspective of the surrounding landscape.
We came in right before closing was not planned, but it was the best time, barely any crowds, and the view of the sun setting was great. Head up, the swing is an extra climb, so if you're up for it, just be prepared a little for the hike. Shop around for coffee or snacks. For 9 dollars, it's an amazing price, especially for those views.
John P — Google review
Beautiful views, and a fun 18-minute ride for $9 round-trip, less for Ecuadorian nationals. There are two cafes up top, and numerous hiking trails and viewpoints. Careful if you're prone to altitude sickness, the summit is at 12,000ft. Despite 70f degrees in town, it was much colder and quite windy on the mountain, so bring a jacket. I love that dogs are welcome, I rode up with a friendly beagle, and there is a dog park at the top as well!

This attraction is absolutely worth a visit! 🌄 The entrance ticket is $9, followed by a scenic cable car ride to the top where the adventure really begins. The hike is serious, so be prepared with good shoes and some energy, but it’s incredibly rewarding. Along the way, you’ll find fun spots like a swing and several other unique surprises that make the journey even more enjoyable. Whether you go in the morning or evening, the views are stunning and the atmosphere is beautiful. A perfect mix of nature, activity, and a bit of thrill — highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable experience!

A must go to destination, just be sure to acclimate prior to it. Trying to get in touch with nature and altitude, this is the place to go. Love the “swing in the clouds”. Be sure to bring snacks and plenty of water, also keep an eye on the clouds and precipitation as things can change quickly up there. Bring comfortable shoes or hiking boots as the hike is pretty steep. Overall great experience and workout.
Jonathan C — Google review
I highly recommend taking the cable car up to the observation area and then taking the short hike up to the higher tourist point where they have a nice picture area. Be aware that you’re at over 14,000 feet and the air is very thin. Plan on stopping often even though the hike is short (Even our guide was huffing and puffing). However the photos from the top observation area are beautiful.

Great experience. Absolutely beautiful. Wait for a clear day to get the most out of the trip. We went up in October while it was clear in the old town. Up there it was cold raining and hailing. Despite bad weather, views of mountains and scenery were breathtaking.

One of the things you’ll do when u r in Quito. It’s probably better when the sun is out but on a cloudy day hardly worth the $9. We’ll organized and clean though.

Nestled in the vibrant Barrio San Blas, Old Town Quito Suites offers a delightful blend of antique charm and modern luxury. This beautifully restored colonial mansion, located adjacent to the historic San Blas church, serves as an inviting aparthotel for travelers seeking comfort in the heart of Quito. With its warm decor and serene patio, guests can unwind while enjoying amenities like fiber-optic internet and induction cookers that ensure a home-like experience.
Falling in love with its evening ambience as soon as we stepped into the courtyard on arrival. The suite is more like a one bedroom apartment than a suite: with living room, kitchen/breakfast area, full bath and a cozy bedroom. The kitchen is not only fully equipped with all ware, but also a refrigerator stocked with eggs, yogurt, ham, cheese, milk, juice, bread for self serve breakfast, plus the coffees/teas on the bar. The location is superb: 10 minute walk to the Basilica and 20 minute walk to the center of the old town. The staffs were all super friendly and helpful. They arranged airport pick up and private tours based on our request. We thought enjoyed the 3 tours. Last, but not the least: the rooms are extremely clean!!!

Beautiful old but modernized building with big suites, conveniently located to Old Town Quito. Food was delivered to the room every day for breakfast and snacks, and the space was impeccably clean. The staff were very personable and went above and beyond to make us comfortable, help us navigate the city, and provide us with anything we needed. They also accommodated a very late check-out after our flight was delayed all day. Would not hesitate to stay again!

This is one of the nicest places we’ve ever stayed. It is not a hotel so don’t expect this, but rather a beautifully cosy apartment that am sure is nicer than many peoples houses. We stayed in “high ceilings” and had 3 spacious rooms with loads of storage, a fully equipped kitchen and a really comfortable bedroom. Having been on the road for many months it was such a treat to relax and enjoy the wonderful facilities and do some self catering. We particularly enjoyed the breakfast concept where fresh food was left every day for us in the fridge but we were able to prepare it how we liked. Very generous quantities of everything. The rooms were immaculately cleaned every day and the staff at the front desk were so kind and welcoming. The apartment is located on a really nice street with bars and restaurants and just a few minutes walk from the centre of the old town. We felt safe at all times. Many thanks to all at Old Town Quito Suites for such a wonderful experience. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Quito.

My friends and I had an amazing stay at Old Town Quito Suites! From the start, Joz and the team were incredibly attentive to every detail and so responsive in helping us plan our trip beforehand. The rooms were spotless, spacious, and very comfortable - truly above expectations. Their hospitality made our time in Quito truly unforgettable!

An absolutely charming suite (we stayed in "Over the Bridge") in a perfect location. Our stay was shorter than we had planned due to flight delays but the staff were really helpful in accommodating the schedule changes, and they arranged a day trip to Mindo for us that was truly a delight – Joshua was fantastic. Not a single complaint – truly a 5-star stay.

Stayed at old Town Quito suites with my wife for 5 nights. The staff is absolutely incredible! From the communication before our visit, the ride from the airport, and booking our day trips we felt very well taken care of. The room and the common areas are very beautiful. The room was huge and very well stocked. We even received a very generous stocked fridge with everything you would need to make breakfast. The room was restocked every day as well including the fridge and a large bottle of water. We found the area to be very walkable, safe and had lots of options for places to eat. A short walk to the basilica and a great place to catch the hope on hop off bus. Make sure to take advantage of the hotels preferred driving service as they are absolutely incredible. We will miss all the staff especially Labur (that's probably spelled wrong P.S. remember The One Piece is out there) Would come back in a heart-beat.

We managed to stay in 3 of the suites they had to offer - every single one of them were beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The staff was so kind and helpful, bringing us fresh pastries every morning. The fridge was always stocked with eggs and bfast supplies, and a constantly replenished supply of fresh fruit on the table. The beds were comfortable, the showers clean with good water pressure. The location is right on the edge of old town, walking distance to several sights and restaurants. It is also right down the street from the pick up/drop off point for the bus to the Amazon. Hands down, this is where we will always stay if we ever return to Quito.

This is a fabulous place to stay! Brand new, spacious rooms, phenomenal service, wonderful location. Cannot recommend enough. Vey reasonable prices for what you receive. These are mini apartments, not hotel rooms. We stayed in the Rooms with a View, which was 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath, and 1,000 sf. Great pizza place directly across the street where the owner/chef hand prepared your food for you.

The Church of the Society of Jesus, also known as La Compania de Jesus, is a remarkable baroque church in Quito, Ecuador. Its construction began in 1605 and was completed in 1765. The interior is adorned with elaborate carvings and gilded with gold leaf, creating a breathtaking sight that has earned it the reputation of being one of the most beautiful churches in Ecuador.
Stepping into church of society of Jesus was a deeply moving experience—truly the most beautiful sacred place I have ever seen in my life. The moment I walked through its doors, I felt a powerful sense of peace and awe. Its age and history seem to whisper stories from centuries past, echoing the soul of Quito’s rich culture and spiritual heritage. The architecture is nothing short of divine—ornate, timeless, and filled with meaning in every detail. Nestled in the heart of Quito’s historic district, the church feels like a sacred jewel surrounded by the rhythms of everyday life. It’s not just a place to visit—it’s a place to feel, reflect, and connect. A must-see for anyone seeking beauty, history, or a touch of the divine.

Absolutely a must visit if you're in Quito. It really is one of the most beautiful interior churches you'll ever visit. And the amount of gold leaf on every surface is blinding - it's like Midas himself lived here for 100 years. In addition, during the weekend there are street vendors outside selling variety of handicrafts. It's very lively.
Lisa C — Google review
It's a beautiful place to both visit and take a little time out to reflect with God. Respect the latter, especially if other visitors are doing so. The amount of gold covering the walls is staggering. I won't compare this place to European churches other than it's equally as beautiful but for other reasons.
Stuart T — Google review
The crown jewel de la ciudad. The most iconic building in the UNESCO city, if you think Iglesia San Francisco is the king of Quito, then Iglesia Compana de Jesus is a grandpa to the king. Ancient and spectacular.
Leo L — Google review
One of the most beautiful churches you'll visit, ever. Everywhere is full of decorations and details (Barroco Style). Correctly called, The Golden Church (La Iglesia de Oro). We spent like half a day there. Suggestion, use the local guide inside the church so you get all the information. Also, pay for the full experience. You'll view the interior plus you'll have access to the roof and crypts. Prices are really affordable for all you'll be able to experience.
Daniel D — Google review
For 160 years, Italian Jesuit brothers were devoted to building this incomparable church. Its architecture is in the Spanish baroque style. Most of the interior is covered in 23 karat gold leaf, including a golden dome. Our local guide shared that this historic church is filled with 56 sculptures and 44 paintings. One of the most famous paintings, El Inferno, is by the church entrance. It depicts the 25 deadly sins and how Lucifer will punish sinners at the last judgment. The church hosts special events in addition to weekly services. They were setting up for an evening concert when we visited. The church's exterior is made of volcanic gray stone. It's worth a second visit to return and see the church lit up in the evening.
Barb ( — Google review
You have to pay to enter ($6 per person) plus an additional $6 to visit the cupolas and the crypts but that includes a guided tour, which was very good. We were glad we did it!

Bodies of Water
Quilotoa Lake is a volcanic crater lake in Ecuador, accessible by vehicle. It has a diameter of about 13 kilometers and was formed by the collapse of the Quilotoa volcano. The lake's water and various activities make it a popular attraction for both locals and tourists. The Quilotoa Circuit, starting from the town of Chugchilan, offers an excellent multi-day trek through mountain trails, villages, and camping sites.
It's an incredibly beautiful lake. You can drive right up to the viewpoint, but the path down is sandy and not very easy to walk.
Totti — Google review
Laguna Quilotoa: An Unforgettable Ecuadorian Marvel Laguna Quilotoa is not just a place; it's a breathtaking experience that will be etched in your memory forever. From the moment I first laid eyes on this water-filled caldera, surrounded by steep mountain slopes, I knew: this is one of the most incredible natural wonders I have ever seen. Without a doubt, it deserves 5 out of 5 stars! The Unspeakable Color The water in the lagoon shifts between shades of emerald green and vibrant turquoise, depending on the sun's position and the weather. This creates a truly otherworldly landscape. The view from the crater rim is simply unbelievable—the depth, the scale, and the color of the lake feel absolutely fantastic. The Altitude Adventure The descent to the water is a real adventure (and an excellent workout!). The trail is quite steep and sandy, but every step is worth the effort. Once you reach the shore, you can rent a kayak and paddle out onto the water, which allows you to truly feel the mystical atmosphere of this place. The climb back up, of course, is challenging due to the high altitude (nearly 3,900 meters above sea level!), but completing it is incredibly rewarding. Cultural Immersion A trip to Quilotoa is also an opportunity to connect with the life of the local indigenous Andean communities, their handicrafts, and traditions. This adds a valuable layer to the entire journey. Conclusion Quilotoa is a must-see destination in Ecuador. If you love mountains, incredible scenery, and are up for a physical challenge, you will be completely amazed. This is pure, undiluted natural splendor.
Natali N — Google review
Great small rural town in the mountains of Ecuador. Everything is so authentic! Worth to do short hike (to the bottom of the lake and back in 40-50 min) and if in good shape to do the rim hike (5-6h at a good pace) Great for acclimatizing if you are planning Ng to do Cotopaxi or Chimborazo! Beautiful views!!!
Olivia P — Google review
Totally worth a visit! Incredibly gorgeous lagoon all the way from the top to the bottom. The hike is about 2 km going down and it is a rough path. I recommend hiking shoes and trekking poles. You can take a kayak onto the lagoon for 3 USD, or get a boat ride for 5 USD. The boat can splash water, so make sure you have water resistant/waterproof gear. You need to be prepared for All seasons because the weather can change dramatically from minute to minute.
Jemy J — Google review
Amazing view, do yourself the favour if booking a tour in advance, and if you have time stay in Latacunga. It’s quite the trip from Quito.
Zandra K — Google review
Great place! It is definitely one of the most beautiful hiking places in Ecuador. We even saw one of the rare andean condors. It took us about 5 hours to go around. Keep the height in mind and go slowly. There are some quite steep passages which are very exhausting and might cause headaches and dizziness.
Markus H — Google review
Beautiful place! I really recommend the Quilotoa Loop going from Sigchos up to the lake

Lovely experience to see the waterfall! I actually thought you could walk under to the other side but it is 2 separate entry’s, we opted not to bother with the other side as felt we had seen the waterfall beautifully here!

Huge rushing water from the falls, you will get soaked if you choose to. Easy-going trail is good for all ages. It can be packed if you don't go early.
John P — Google review
Cascada El Pailón del Diablo is an absolutely mesmerizing destination that should be at the top of every traveler’s list when visiting Ecuador. The grandeur of the waterfall, cascading dramatically into the verdant canyon, is a sight that truly defies description. The approach to the falls involves a lengthy trek, so it’s crucial to wear sturdy hiking shoes—avoid vans, heels, or casual sneakers. The terrain can be challenging, so come prepared with a large water bottle, a raincoat, a hat, and sunscreen, as the Ecuadorian sun is intense. The path to the waterfall is scenic but can be steep and uneven, so take your time and make frequent rest stops to enjoy the surrounding beauty. The sound of the roaring water and the mist that envelops the area add to the natural splendor. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the breathtaking views and the surrounding lush landscape. This destination offers an unforgettable experience with its stunning vistas and the awe-inspiring power of nature. For anyone visiting Ecuador, Cascada El Pailón del Diablo is an essential stop and a highlight of any trip!!

It is the perfect place to meet at night. The view is incredible although you have to take into account the walking times. The only problem are the guides, it is a lottery if you are going to get a good guide or one who just wants to finish the tour quickly.

Amazing must see attraction in Quito! Will need a 15-20 minutes walk to the waterfall. The pathway leading to the waterfall is set in such a way that you pass by next to and below the waterfall. Be prepared to be drenched. The panoramic view at the top of waterfall is fantastic. Incredible experience
CK C — Google review
This was a fine stop. The waterfall is powerful but the water is brown and there's litter in the canyon. It's a photogenic spot with the winding staircase. There's an area where you have to crawl between rocks to get to the top. The suspension bridge was fun and the cafe is very cute.
Fiorella C — Google review
Checked out both the new entrance and the old entrance and would recommend the new entrance. Paid $2 to enter each (so $4 total) plus $1 for parking. The views from the new entrance are better and it doesn’t require as much of a hike to get into the park.
Patrick S — Google review
We came to the place around 11 am to noon. It was a weekend and there were not a lot of people in the park. We breezed through the gate entrance and we already started taking pictures of the cascading falls that pounded through the rocks. We went farther down and marveled at the rain forest. We hiked down and reached 2 hanging bridges. The bridges were safe to walk on and you have good views of the cascading falls. Farther down, you go down the stairs where you will be closer to the falls. You can get wet as you move closer. It is quite a walk up and down from the bottom to the top of the falls. Any spot is a good spot to take in the view and take pictures. Beautiful scenery as you hear the thunderous pounding of the cascading falls. Highly recommended for a visit in Baños.

La Casa del Arbol is a must-visit destination in Ecuador, offering a unique experience in a volcanic valley. The site features a treehouse and viewing deck surrounded by picturesque gardens, providing spectacular views of the Tungurahua volcano. Visitors can enjoy zip lines, explore beautiful waterfalls on guided hikes, and take in the stunning scenery. The garden boasts vibrant flowers and mini zip lines for kids, while the main attraction is the iconic treehouse with swings overlooking the breathtaking landscape.
My wife and I came here this afternoon expecting to see a bunch of "Instantgram" influencers jumping up and down and doing wardrobe changes to get the iconic photo up here. It was surprisingly quite the opposite. We met a few local families up here who we chatted with for a while and had some really great conversations with them in addition to enjoying the rides up there for $1pp. I can't say it'll be the same for everyone, but I'll remember my trip up here for a while.
Travis M — Google review
I visited La Casa del Árbol with my lady, and we had a wonderful time. The view alone is worth the trip — you’re surrounded by clouds, mountains, and pure fresh air. But the real magic happened when I got on the famous swing. At first, I was a little nervous, but one of the employees gave me a good push — and before I knew it, I was swinging high over the edge of the mountain. It was such an exhilarating and freeing feeling. As soon as I went forward, I could just breathe deeply and enjoy the moment. I honestly felt like a kid again — full of joy and wonder. It’s a simple place, but the feeling you get there is unforgettable. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting Baños. Go early around 10:00AM and don’t leave without giving the swing a try!
Faris H — Google review
Nice little park with a treehouse, some free swings at the edge of the mountain and the beautiful garden! There’s also a views of the volcano mountain nearby!

Amazing! A must if you are visiting Baños! Try to go in the morning if you can as it gets foggy starting at 2pm and sometimes it will not clear up from then. We got great photos and the man working there had so much strength to push the swing I felt like I was at a Parks ride. You don’t have to have him push you but if you like adrenaline go for it. I came here 10 years ago and it was just the swing. Now they have added a nice garden, few places for couples’s photos and the tarabita which is also fun. Totally recommend! if you want a nice view of the mountains and the volcano, you are better off going in the morning if it’s sunny it should be clear. We went around 3 and it was foggy so I’m including a picture with fog (current) and without fog (from 10 years ago) so you can check the difference. Entrance fee was $1 or $2 dollars per person- I cannot remember well since I visited too many places the same day. Parking is available for a dollar and it includes access to the bathroom. There is a steep hill from the parking lot to the site which was challenging to walk up. I was out of air for like 2 -3 minutes as we are not used to walking steep hills.
C’est V — Google review
I feel like my family and I went at a perfect time, not too busy. Had swings for all ages. We really enjoyed ourselves a lot and took so many pictures. They have these 360 photo booth thing that you pay $1 and it spins for a good minute. Has beautiful views and flowers all over the place

Amazing views and a very great experience. The swing was a fun time, hope you're not scared of heights.
John P — Google review
To be honest, I was a little underwhelmed. It might have had something to do with the clouds blocking the views, but even without them, I don't think I missed much. There are a few other things to do that are mildly entertaining. It was a dollar to park and a dollar to get in, so great value if you want to check it out.

Strongly recommended if you are looking for some sightseeing and great spot, this Malecon has all you might have look into Guayaquil in one place, also there are different places to grag food or snacks, activities might very from walking along the pier to ride a pirate boat, there is also a wheel of fortune and a dinasour theme park.
Chris B — Google review
The Malecon is a fine, popular walk along the river with a good amount of shade. Security seemed pretty good at all entrances. Many families were there. We felt safe and secure while there during the day. There are rides and small vendors along the malecon. More upscale restaurants with river views are also available. There are plenty of good spots for pictures.

if anybody tells you there is no museum worth visiting in Guayaquil they are wrong. This place offers some modernistic art, installations, etc. which I don't need. In the last room they show a very impressive collection of pre-columbian ceramics: amazing. These objects don't need any explanation. They speak by themselves.

Really cool walk along the water, safe as there is lots of security, and lots of stores you can buy food and goods from

A must-visit place in Guayaquil! Malecón 2000 is a beautiful and safe waterfront area perfect for walking, relaxing, or spending time with family. It offers great views of the river, well-maintained gardens, monuments, and attractions. Both locals and tourists will enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. A highlight of the city!

Parque Seminario, also known as Parque Bolivar or Parque de los Iguanas, is a historic 17th-century park in Guayaquil. It features sculptures, an octagonal pavilion, the Palace of Guayaquil and the Cathedral of Guayaquil. The park is famous for its resident iguanas that freely roam around, providing a unique opportunity for visitors to interact with them and take photos.
Semanario park is directly in front of the cathedral, which is worth a 10min free visit in itself.  The park is most famous for the 100 very tame large green iguanas that live here. There are signs posted do not touch and do not feed; there are guards to enforce the rules. But enforcement seemed random, if you are determined it is quite possible to feed and handle the lizards, they are very docile. But you might get caught and you might get bit.
Jay A — Google review
Parque Seminario, also known as Iguana Park, is a small but beautiful green space in the center of Guayaquil. The park is well-kept, with shaded benches, trees, and a calm atmosphere that feels like a peaceful break from the busy city. The highlight is, of course, the iguanas that roam freely. They climb the trees, lounge on the grass, and are surprisingly calm around people, making it easy to take pictures or simply observe them up close. What makes this park special is the mix of history and charm with the unique experience of sharing the space with dozens of iguanas. Families, tourists, and locals all enjoy it, and the environment feels welcoming. The gardens and walkways are clean and inviting, and the presence of the iguanas gives the park a memorable character that you don’t see anywhere else. Overall, Parque Seminario is a must-see spot in Guayaquil—not because of its size, but because of its atmosphere and the one-of-a-kind experience it offers.

We visited Parque Seminario during our trip to Guayaquil and really enjoyed it. It’s a small, charming park right in the city center, full of life with free-roaming iguanas, small tortoises, and birds. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming — a perfect little break from the busy streets. Definitely worth a quick visit!
Anastasia B — Google review
We had a great day here. Walked through the park to the waterfront. The iguanas were all over the park. Some people chose to feed them. It created a lot of excitement t with the iguanas!
Michael O — Google review
Everyone was siding in the experience and having a good time. There was a gentleman there that helped take pictures and didn’t ask for anything (although I did tip), and there were prime selling Romain lettuce to give to the iguanas. We really enjoyed it.
Waldo J — Google review
This park does not disappoint. There are tons of iguanas and turtles everywhere in the park. Watch out for a bit of iguana droppings coming out of the trees. Overall it's a must visit when in Guayaquil. Easy to get to and it feels relatively safe here during the day.
Nav S — Google review
Great to a quick stop! The park itself is pretty, but the main attractions are the iguanas that reside there! They are not afraid of you at all, and if you bring a banana along, then expect to make some friends!
Jennifer C — Google review
This park is really sold on the fact that there are iguanas there, but to be honest, there aren't too many and they're not particularly big or impressive. Still, it's a nice park and there are ponds, where iguanas mix with fish and turtles. The added draw for this park is that there is also the Metropolitan Cathedral right next to it, which is pretty impressive in it's own right.

Parque Nacional Cajas

National park
Nature & Parks
Cajas National Park is a nature lover's paradise, boasting over 230 lagoons including Lagartococha, Osohuaycu, Quinoascocha, La Toreadora, Sunincocha and Tinguishcocha. Visitors can engage in various activities such as horseback riding, camping and sport fishing. The park offers ample parking for those arriving by car and clean facilities at the entrance.
This is one of the most beautiful National Parks anywhere, let alone Ecuador. The altitude is very high, so you should be somewhat acclimated before hiking much. There's also a need to layer clothing since it can be warm at time and cold and radiation other times. But each bend you round reveals another incredibly beautiful vista.

This is a fantastic national park, one can never miss it when travel to Cuenca. Not too long trip, about 45mins drive to the high mountain side. There's a long trail to go around, beautiful lagoon, clouds, enjoy every step move forward. Get used to the acclimated location, move slowly if you just arrive in Ecuador for 1-2 days.
Jenny T — Google review
Such a beautiful place it is so nice to walk around look around and listen to the quietness and enjoy the views. Such an incredible nice place we went on a pretty day but it was a little windy and slightly cold which complimented the experience. You should definitely go here look around there's so much to see and do here just amazing.
S.T. R — Google review
Great park with several hiking trails to explore. If you want to trek for multiple days it is possible. The entrance is free, you only need to register your name and how many days you are planning to spend in the park. Hiking on the routes 1 and 2 was a good choice. They don't recommend staying in the park after 4:30, the last bus to Cuenca departs a bit before 5pm.

The Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipan, located in northern Peru, is a remarkable pyramid-shaped establishment dedicated to exhibiting intricate funerary objects from the pre-Inca Royal Tombs of Sipan. Opened in November 2002, this world-class facility features a carefully curated collection displayed with great care and attention to detail. Photography is not allowed, and visitors must have their bags checked before entering.
Omg the museum recently had renovations and it looks amazing, there are professional guides who tell you great stories behind the pieces, great experience, be aware that you can’t bring large bags into the museum but they have an area where they store your belongs to pick up when ready to leave.
David A — Google review
The Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum near Chiclayo is a must-visit if you love history and archaeology. The pyramid-style architecture itself reflects the ancient Moche culture, and inside you walk through the story of the Lord of Sipán step by step, from excavation to the stunning treasures found in his tomb. The gold, silver, ceramics, and textiles give a deep insight into the artistry and beliefs of the Mochica civilization. The museum is very well maintained — clean, organized, and carefully curated with proper lighting and security that protect these priceless artifacts. The exhibits are presented with respect and detail, making it easy to appreciate the importance of this culture in Peru’s history. Some explanations are only in Spanish and weekends can be a bit crowded, but overall it is one of the best museums in Peru and highly recommended 😊😊😊

Really well presented, the artifacts are fasincating and you'll get a lot out of it if you're an enthusiast or casual history fan. It has great english translations for the first couple of rooms and then they abruptly stop and don't reappear for the rest of the museum.

Excellent museum. Make sure to put personal belongings in locker as they do not allow large bags. Pay for a guide or you will not get the full experience. A must see in peru. I was lucky enough to be there for thier 35 year anniversary today.

Beautiful museum, with amazing exhibits, really enjoyed, paid extra for a guided tour, but unfortunately the English speaking guide, spoke hardly any English. Very few of the exhibits had English explanations. But I still enjoyed my time here
Paul S — Google review
Unexpectedly amazing. Probably the most complete archaeological museum I've ever been to. Storyline is very well done and items are kept on careful display. You will be amazed here. I do hope the museum will translate more of the information to English. It seemed they stopped doing that somewhere halfway, which is a shame!

Chan Chan

Chan Chan is a significant pre-Columbian archaeological site in America, known for its vast adobe complex adorned with art and carvings. Located just 10 minutes from Huanchaco, it attracts numerous tourists daily. The ruins are part of a larger adventure that includes nearby sites like the Huacas del Sol y de la Luna and Huaca de Bruja. For surfers, the proximity to Huanchaco's renowned surf makes it an appealing destination.
I can't believe Chan Chan isn't more well known and visited. It's an amazing archeological site with interesting history. If you enjoyed Machu Picchu, the history and culture, then make the trip north to Trujillo and see Chan Chan. It's a different culture and history, but no less interesting.
Fred C — Google review
It was great and really interesting and if you have kids then they would be really engaged if you hire a tour guide
Gabriel — Google review
Certainly Chan Chan is one of the historically highly important archeological sites in the country. However, from a visitor's perspective the site has a few drawbacks. First, there is very little to no information at the archeological spots (only some in the museum). At the main site you can not even tell what is "original" and what was reconstructed. Second, the complex is large and scattered across the area (the ticket covers four spots) - you either need a driver or be prepared to walk quiet a lot. There is also no information on where to start and which route to take between the four spots. Of you habe the time, pay this site a visit and decide for yourself. Bit if you have to choose, I would personally recommend Huaca de Luna instead for a half-day trip.
Dmitry S — Google review
Absolutely impressive site! The ruins of Chan Chan are huge and give you a real sense of the scale of this ancient city. It’s very well maintained and easy to explore, with detailed explanations about the culture and history of the Chimú civilization. Walking through the palaces and seeing the geometric and animal designs on the walls is truly fascinating. A must-visit if you’re in Trujillo!
Adrian H — Google review
I think the chan chan site itself was not as impressive as I originally thought. Not a lot of parts of the chan chan ancient city was open to public so the visit to the chan chan site itself was not very long. There are not a lot of description or reconstruction pictures shown on site so it all depends on the guide. Our guide was excellent so it was ok but the site itself was not well presented. It was also not very crowded during our visit. Must visit the museum beforehand or else you won’t know what is happening out there.
Celia Y — Google review
This visit is a must go !! I definitely recommend to visit this place and to take a guide (60 soles). With a guide it is much more easy to project oneself in the culture and lifestyle of the Chimu and understand the interaction between different cultures in Peru (Moche, Chimu, Inka). Without a guide, you won’t be able to catch all the details and subtleties of this place!
Patricia C — Google review
I recommend to take a tour to get information about the place. We didn't get a guide but it worse to pay for it
Behzad G — Google review
Awe inspiring place for its huge scale more than anything. The mud carvings are attractive and lots of conservation and repair work is ongoing. The museum is a little small and dated but the city makes up for it.

La Huaca del Sol

La Huaca del Sol is a significant archaeological site in the region, built by the Moche civilization. It served as a royal residence, ceremony site, and burial chamber. The complex includes the Temples of the Sun and the Moon, with the latter featuring phenomenal multicolored friezes. While the larger Huaca del Sol is closed to visitors, La Huaca de la Luna offers well-preserved structures and remarkable polychrome murals on its multi-story wall.
So you really should come and join a guided tour (available in Spanish, English and French every hour or so), we did almost 2 hours and it was possibly the best pyramids in Peru we have visited (mostly thanks to the University that runs it). The explanations were really good, the route was nice, lots of shade and lots of conserved murals and structures to see. It's about 20 soles in an Uber from the city, 10 soles entry (+5 soles for the museum) and a guide is by donation (we gave 15 soles each).
Matthew B — Google review
Very interesting site! We had a lovely tour guide (sadly I don’t quite remember here name, Even?). The tours are free on a donation basis. They have tours in English and Spanish with the last English tour being at 3.15pm. Only annoying and rude thing was that the ticket seller sold us museum tickets even though it was only open for 8 more min (until 4pm)! I understand that the site needs money but this is not the way to get it. If you’re in Trujillo you should definitely check out this site!
Flowerly — Google review
The "Temple of the Sun" Huace del Sol is another Pyramid-style ceremonial place of the Moche civilization. Located close to the Temple of the Moon, just outside of Trujillo. Unfortunately the Spanish Colonial Forces destroyed a lot of this site after their search for gold. The site itself still is an impressive reminder on the high capabilities in architecture of pre-Colombian civilizations.
Tee K — Google review
Great to see the sun temple and be part of a tour group where the pictures / significance is explained. Some places were badly destroyed but you can see they are actively trying to keep what is left preserved.
Kara H — Google review
I had never heard of this civilization. Well preserved tiles, especially considering they are mud brick. The people who lived there were some blood-thirsty MFers.
Scott M — Google review
I wound up walking in since I took a Moche colectivo instead of one that comes direct to the museum. That worked well because the onsite tours do not visit Huaca del Sol. They go through Huaca de Luna. There are signs indicating that you shouldn't attempt to climb the pyramid. It was nice that I could see it up close as I walked the rest of the way to the fee station.
Mike M — Google review
Amazing place, museum was informative and had explanations in English. Our English guide Rosemary was really good and the guide service was included in the entrance fee (10 soles for site and 5 for museum). Definitely recommend thoroughly enjoyed.

Huascaran, the highest mountain in Peru, is a twin-summit peak located in the Andes of west-central Peru. Rising to 22,205 feet above sea level, it is a popular destination for mountaineers and climbers. The most well-known itinerary to climb Huascaran starts from Huaraz and passes through Musho before reaching the Base Camp.
One of the most beautiful places, clean air and pure water coming down from it full of minerals. Highly recommend because it's not crowded

Jane. B — Google review
Mount Huascarán is the highest peak in Peru and one of the most majestic in the entire Andes mountain range. Located within Huascarán National Park in the Ancash region, it rises to an impressive 6,768 meters (22,205 feet) above sea level, making it the tallest point in Peru and the second highest in South America, just behind Aconcagua in Argentina. Beyond its geographical significance, Huascarán holds deep symbolic value for Peruvians and is a revered destination for mountaineers, nature lovers, and landscape photographers. The mountain consists of two main summits: Huascarán Norte (6,654 m) and Huascarán Sur (6,768 m), the latter being the highest. Surrounded by glacial valleys, turquoise lagoons, and snow-covered peaks, the scenery is breathtaking. The picturesque town of Huaraz serves as the base for many hikes and expeditions and offers stunning views of the mountain. The region is also home to unique Andean biodiversity, with flora and fauna specially adapted to high-altitude conditions. Climbing Huascarán is a serious challenge, suitable only for experienced climbers. The extreme altitude, unstable glaciers, and rapidly changing weather demand technical skills and physical preparation. However, for those who prefer to admire the mountain from a distance, there are numerous trekking routes nearby—such as those leading to the Llanganuco Lakes—that offer spectacular views. Whether for adventure, contemplation, or a connection with Andean nature, Mount Huascarán stands as a towering symbol of beauty, strength, and awe.
