Car parking is available. Fort is in ruins.. not maintained properly.. free entry.. You can skip this fort if you are out of time.. 1. Historical Background: Built in the 17th century by Shivappa Nayaka of the Keladi Nayaka dynasty. Marked the decline of the Kolathiri Kingdom as the Keladi Nayakas expanded after the Vijayanagara Empire's fall. Located near the Chandragiri River, historically marking the boundary between Kolathunadu and Vijayanagara Empire. 2. Architecture: Hilltop fort, 150 feet above sea level, offering views of the Arabian Sea and Chandragiri River. Rectangular design with laterite stone walls, though now in ruins. Believed to have secret tunnels for escape or attacks. 3. Significance: Served as a military outpost for coastal defense and trade route control. Played a role in regional conflicts and negotiations. 4. Present-Day Highlights: Popular for panoramic views and sunsets over the Arabian Sea. Hosts cultural events and festivals. 5. Nearby Attractions: Bekal Fort: Larger and well-preserved fort nearby. Chandragiri Boat Club: Offers scenic backwater boat rides. 6. Tourism Appeal: Scenic location, ideal for history enthusiasts and photographers.

Chandragiri Fort is a wonderful spot nestled in the scenic landscape of Kasaragod. As you step into the fort, you're greeted by breathtaking views of the Chandragiri River flowing into the Arabian Sea. The fort's strategic location offers panoramic vistas that are simply stunning, making it an ideal spot to watch the sunset. The peaceful and calm atmosphere within the fort premises provides a perfect setting for relaxation and introspection. The fort is steeped in history, having been built by Sivappa Naik of Bedanore in the 17th century. As you explore the fort, you can almost hear the whispers of the past, with tales of the Vijayanagara Empire and the British East India Company. The fort's architecture and surroundings make it a great spot for photography, with plenty of opportunities to capture stunning images. However, some visitors have noted that the fort could benefit from better maintenance, with inadequate staff and facilities. Despite some areas for improvement, Chandragiri Fort remains a must-visit destination for nature lovers and history enthusiasts. The fort's tranquil ambiance and stunning views make it an ideal spot to unwind and connect with nature. While the road leading to the fort needs improvement, the scenic views and historical significance make it well worth the trip.
Adhipa R — Google review
A beautiful historic fort overlooking the confluence of the Chandragiri River and the Arabian Sea. The place offers stunning panoramic views, especially during sunset. This is a small fort when compared to Bekal, but it has its own charm and peaceful atmosphere. There is some parking available just down the road, making access easier. The area is quiet with lots of greenery around and perfect for photography.
K R — Google review
A beautiful historic place. You can see an amazing panoramic view of Chandragiri river and it's surroundings from the top. But the authorities are not making use of it. I guess just for name sake some staffs are coming and sitting there and exactly at 5PM they close the gate and leave the place. If you want to have a visit, be there at least by 4:30PM. This will be an amazing sunset spot where people can come, sit, chit-chat and enjoy the beauty of the fort if managed properly. But who cares! How can some one enjoy a place in harsh sun light in the afternoon? Government office timings won't work out here. This has to be opened at least till 7PM.

Boxy Hilltop Fortress Sited Above The Chandragiri River Offering Dramatic Sunset Views...
MURALI K — Google review
Wasted time searching for the fort, the roads leading to the fort need maintenance, won’t feel like it’s a fort, in a residential area. There’s no signage on the entrance, in fact there’s a small opening with chained blockades which anyone can easily miss while driving. Parking is on the narrow road side, bigger cars will have problem. Free entry, Once inside one can see the Chandragiri river and part of Arabian Sea, fort is not maintained well. Bekal fort is larger and better maintained.

The Madhur Sri Madanantheshwara vinayaka Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located on the banks of River Madhuvahini in Kasaragod, Kerala. The temple was constructed by the Mypadi rulers in the 10th century and later renovated in the 15th century. It is dedicated to gods Shiva and Ganesh, with intricate wood carvings depicting scenes from the Ramayana.
The temple has a rich history and a strong cultural presence in the region. It’s well-maintained, and the priests and staff are very welcoming and respectful. The prasadams offered are simple yet delightful, and the rituals are performed with great devotion.

Madhur Ganapathi Temple is one of the most peaceful and spiritually uplifting places in Kasaragod. The temple’s architecture is stunning — beautifully carved wooden structures and the serene surroundings make it truly special. The idol of Lord Ganapathi (Sree Madanantheshwara Vinayaka) gives a divine and positive energy as soon as you enter the sanctum. The temple is well-maintained, and the atmosphere is calm even when it’s crowded during festivals. The river beside the temple adds to the beauty and gives a soothing vibe. The prasadam is delicious and served with great devotion. If you’re visiting Kasaragod, this temple is a must-visit for anyone seeking blessings, peace, and a glimpse of Kerala’s traditional temple culture. 🙏

We went during the morning Pooja time so there was a little crowd but no wait time. The temple has been renovated and it's beautiful. Many stories are attached to the temple's main deities. First the puja is done for Ganesha and then for Shiva. The river Madhuvahini flows by the temple. You can buy the prasadam at the counter - 4 unniappams for 20rs. They were very tasty. The temple is frequented by many tourists from Karnataka as well.

Shree Ananthapadmanabha Swamy Temple

Mentioned on

Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
SRI ANANTHAPADMANABHA SWAMY TEMPLE is a serene and picturesque Hindu temple situated on a lake. It boasts of a renowned crocodile, Babiya, and is managed by welcoming priests who provide insights into its history. This temple's inclusive policy allows visitors from all walks of life to enjoy its tranquil surroundings. Highly recommended for those seeking a peaceful retreat in Kumbla.
The Ananthapura Lake Temple is a Hindu temple located in the middle of a lake in the Kasaragod district of Kerala. Believed to have been built in the 9th century, it is the only lake temple in Kerala and is dedicated to Lord Anantha Padmanabha, a form of Vishnu. The sanctum is situated within a tranquil lake that is fed by a perennial spring. A footbridge connects the temple to the surrounding land. The temple was famously guarded by a vegetarian crocodile named Babiya, who lived in the lake for decades and was fed by the priests. Following Babiya's death in 2022, a new crocodile appeared in the lake.

A tranquil temple slightly away from Kasargod town. As we step into the temple premises there is an instant calm that settles in you. A beautiful experience. Do not miss the sannidhis near the dining hall. I have heard that the annadaanam here is very good.

A must visit temple. It's near Kumbala in Kasaragod dist. About six km from Kumbala railway station. You will get Autos from station for about Rs. 130-140. The temple closes after "Ucha pooja" at 12:30pm and after that there is Anna prasadam, very delicious veg lunch. There is guest house also. Those who want to stay can book by calling to the temple office.
Sreekumar R — Google review
This is a unique Hindu temple in Ananthapura, only temple built in the middle of a lake in Kerala. 👍 The main sanctum is surrounded by a rectangular lake, access to the sanctum is via a footbridge on the eastern side. The temple welcomes all visitors regardless of faith who are respectful and mindful of the sacredness of the place. Dress code - Men need to remove the shirts / T-shirts before entering sanctum area (you can remove and keep them with you). Women are expected to wear Saree, salwar Kamez, or long skirts. Avoid sleeves tops, short dresses or tight western wear. Puja tokens are issued near the entrance counter The lake seems to have a Vegetarian Crocodile 😀 we couldn’t see though. Footwear must be left outside the temple like any other temple. (No shoe racks) Photography inside sanctum not allowed. There’s enough parking space for two and four wheelers outside. Few shops in parking area to buy any puja items.

Such a calm and peaceful place — truly so refreshing to visit. The temple surrounded by water adds to its beauty and serenity. A perfect place to relax, reflect, and feel spiritually uplifted.
Mradula S — Google review
The Shree Ananthapadmanabha Swamy Temple, often called the Ananthapura Lake Temple, is a captivating and peaceful sanctuary nestled in Kumble, Kasaragod. As the only lake temple in Kerala, it offers a truly distinctive pilgrimage experience. It is an absolute must-visit! This temple holds immense spiritual importance as it is believed to be the Moolasthanam (original seat or source) of the much larger and famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The legend centers around the great sage, Divakara Muni Vilwamangalam, who was performing penance here. Lord Vishnu appeared before him as a mischievous child, whom the sage, annoyed by the pranks, chastised and pushed away. The child vanished into a cave, proclaiming that the sage would find him again at 'Ananthankadu' (the forest of the serpent Anantha). This cave is still visible near the lake, and the sage's subsequent journey led him to Thiruvananthapuram, where the massive Padmanabhaswamy Temple was eventually established. The Deity and Spiritual Core The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his non-reclining form, Ananthapadmanabha, The main sanctum is built on a rock structure in the center of a large rectangular lake (known locally as the kottaram). The architecture follows the classic Kerala style, blending seamlessly with the serene natural environment. The Lake and Its Divine Guardian The most famous and unique feature of the temple is the natural lake and its resident 'divine' crocodile, Babiya. Legend holds that Babiya is the guardian of the temple and is a strict vegetarian. While we visited the temple, the famous crocodile, sadly, remained elusive. We could not find the crocodile on this visit, but the large pond did host several fishes, which were cool to watch as they darted through the water. The Ambience: A Cool Midday Retreat We visited the temple around 12:00 PM in the afternoon, which might typically be the hottest time of the day. Surprisingly, the atmosphere was exceptionally calm and refreshing. The traditional architecture, the lush surroundings, and the cooling effect of the water all contributed to a wonderful, cool vibe. It was a serene and welcoming experience, making the midday journey completely worthwhile. Accessibility and Tips The temple is located approximately 14-16 km from Kasaragod town. It is easily reachable by road. Timing: Check timings before visiting, as like many temples, it closes for Ucha Pooja (midday worship). Visiting around 12:00 PM might mean you arrive just before the closing.

The surroundings are calm, clean, and filled with spiritual energy. The reflection of the temple in the water makes it a beautiful sight, especially in the early morning or evening. The place is well maintained and offers a serene experience away from the crowd.

Ananthapura Temple is a truly peaceful and divine place. The atmosphere is calm, spiritual, and very well maintained. The most special attraction is the famous guardian crocodile, which makes the temple even more unique and valuable. A must-visit temple for anyone coming to Kumble.

Very serene place to spend early mornings or during sunset. Better go on a weekday or when less crowded to get complete peace. The temple surroundings is not clean neither the ponds are maintained not sure if it is because of construction going on.

Nice Peaceful place 40 mins away from the main Mangalore city. Good time to visit is in the evenings. There is a temple at the top of the mountain.
Nikhil T — Google review
Most amazing view. Serene. Calm. Meditative. A must visit. The hill has a SadaShiva temple. Krishna and Arjuna (along with other pandavas) came to the place in repentance after the Mahabharata war. When they reached it was night and they had to halt. They consecrated the Shivalinga and made ponds for their bathing (Chakra teertha, Padma theertha, Shankha teertha) and for the abhisheka of the Shivalinga (Gadha teertha). You can see these ponds by the temple even today. You can take your vehicle to the top, but it may take a bit of an effort. Stairs are available for an easy walk. 333 steps to reach the top. Not too difficult. A must visit if around mangalore.
Puneeth U — Google review
Beautiful place and near to the highway. If you are traveling in Mangalore Bangalore highway it is best place to visit and spend some time. Evening time is lot better to visit as there will be lot of wind.
Juz F — Google review
A beautiful “Sadha Shiva” temple on top “Narahari Parvatha” has a lot of historical story behind it. In short after the war with the Kauravas, Pandavas came here to wash of their war sins. A beautiful serene nature awaits you on the top and turns into a heaven when there is mist during the winter mornings Location is not too far from Mangalore city and can be reached within 45 minutes. It’s on the Mangalore - Bangalore highway. One of the Pilgrimage centers for Hindus and a paradise for nature lovers.

Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy Temple

Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Religious pilgrims travel to this serene, 800-year-old temple honoring several Hindu deities.
800 years ago, Dharmasthala was known as Kuduma in Mallarmadi, a then village in South Kanara. Here lived the Jain Chieftain Birmanna Pergade and his wife Ammu Ballalthi in a house called Nelyadi Beedu. Simple, pious and affectionate people, the Pergade family was known for its generosity and hospitality to all. Miraculous The main "miracle" at Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala is the Annadana (free food service), which is believed to be divinely sustained. For centuries, the temple has provided free meals to thousands of devotees daily, with the supply of food never running out, regardless of the number of visitors. Devotees also believe that prayers are answered and that the deity, Lord Manjunatha, grants peace, prosperity, and spiritual strength
Tejus U — Google review
Heritage, Spirituality & Timeless Values Dharmasthala, nestled in the peaceful hills of Karnataka, is one of those rare places where devotion, culture, and humanity come together beautifully. The moment you enter the temple town, there is a serene energy — as if the place itself teaches you to slow down, breathe, and feel grateful. The Sri Manjunatha Swamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, stands as a symbol of faith practiced for centuries. What makes Dharmasthala truly unique is its heritage of Deeksha, Dana, and Dharma. The temple is managed by the Jain Heggade family, yet the deity is Shiva — a perfect example of harmony beyond religion. This inclusive tradition itself is a spiritual lesson. The free, wholesome Anna Prasada, served to thousands every day, reflects Dharmasthala’s commitment to service. The volunteers work with so much dedication that you see spirituality not just inside the sanctum, but in every simple act of kindness around the temple. The cultural heritage here is equally rich. The Manjusha Museum preserves centuries of art, vintage cars, and rare collections. The Bahubali statue at Ratnagiri Hill adds a majestic calmness — standing tall, reminding everyone of sacrifice and self-realization. What touched me the most is that Dharmasthala is not just a temple — it’s a living example of how spiritual life and social service can walk hand in hand. From education, health care, community development to preserving ancient traditions, Dharmasthala continues to inspire millions. If you’re seeking peace, blessings, or simply a reminder of goodness in this world, Dharmasthala is a place your heart will always remember.

Located at the foothills of the Western Ghats, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala is surrounded by the lush green, Lord Manjunatha: The chief deity, Manjunatha, is a form of Lord Shiva and is worshiped in the form of a shivalinga. The lingam was brought from the Kadri Manjunath Temple in Mangaluru over 800 years ago, as instructed by the Dharma Daivas. Ammanavaru (Shakti): The goddess Shakti is worshiped in a separate shrine and is sometimes referred to as Sri Ammanavaru. She represents the supreme feminine energy. Annappa Betta (Badinede Betta): This sacred hill, located near the temple complex, is believed to be the abode of the guardian spirit Annappa. Trekking up the hill rewards visitors with panoramic views of the town and the surrounding countryside. The Netravathi River: The holy Netravathi river flows near the temple and is a focal point of the area's natural beauty. Visitors can spend time on its banks, enjoying the tranquil environment, and there is also a barrage on the river where a nature cure hospital is located. The Western Ghats: The entire town is nestled in the foothills of the Western Ghats mountain range. The proximity to this region means the area is rich with forests, rolling hills, and abundant flora and fauna. Forests and wildlife: A short distance from Dharmasthala, the natural landscape unfolds into dense forests with rich biodiversity. The area is home to various species, and those seeking wildlife can find nature trails and nearby national parks like Kudremukh. Waterfalls: The nearby Charmadi Ghats are known for their picturesque hills and cascading waterfalls, adding to the refreshing natural ambiance of the region.

Dharmasthala temple is a unique in temple architecture, unlike other temples have big gopurams, here the temple architecture looks like a home. - The temple is very spacious to accommodate thousands of devotees. - The premises surrounding the Dharmasthala town is like a forest and bit of uphill. - The main deity is Lord Manjunatheswara - Also, deities you can see Dharma Devas and Ammanavaru - Only traditional dress is allowed for Darsan, Male – without banyan and shirt, Jeans allowed. Female – Saree or Panjabi dress. Children – No western wear. - After Darsan, you can visit the Anna Prasada Hall and have temple food here. - Overall Darsan may take anytime between 30 mins to 2 hours, depending on the day and time you visit the temple. - If you have the time, visit the Netravati river and perform river bath before having the Lord Manjunatheswara Darsan. If you have the please do visit the Kukke Subramanya Temple which is about 1.30 hours away from Dharmasthala temple, and in general whoever visits the Dharmasthala temple, they also visit the Kukke Subramanya Temple.

I have visited the Adorable Claim Temple many times during my stay in Mangalore. It is a truly divine place. During the Navratri festival, the temple is beautifully decorated, and the Goddess is adorned with different alarakaras each day, which look absolutely stunning. I recently visited during Navratri, and the light decorations along with the Goddess’s alarakara made it a memorable experience. Though it was a bit crowded, I was blessed with a wonderful darshana. A highly recommended place to visit when you are in Mangalore!

Very famous temple and Very powerful goddess. Its best to visit the temple during early morning and evening, because it's peaceful during that time. But it's irritating at the afternoon, specially during Anna prasada. The management will be so rude that time , they don't allow you to eat peacefully at one place, they will be yelling at you all the time . They behave like the conductor in local bus , they will be keep on saying, don't stand here go there etc . 🙄 The management people specially during the Anna Prasada are the worst . Accept that the temple is great, beautiful goddess, everyone should visit.

Mahatobhara Sri Mangaladevi Temple is located at Bolar, the city of Mangalore is named after the presiding diety Temple is centerely located and well connected to the city A must-visit Temple if you’re in Mangalore. Mangala Devi temple is dedicated to Hindu Goddess Shakti / Parvati in the form of Mangaladevi, the presiding deity. [According to local legend, a princess from Malabar named Parimala or Premaladevi renounced her kingdom and became a disciple of Matsyendranath, the founder of the Nath tradition. Having converted Premaladevi to the Nath sect, Matsyendranath renamed her Mangaladevi] The temple is believed to have been built during the 9th century by Kundavarman, king of the Alupa dynasty and as per another legend, the temple is believed to have been built by Parashurama, one of the ten avatars of Hindu god Vishnu and later expanded by Kundavarman. The temple is built in Kerala style architecture, which is common in all temples in the South Indian state of Kerala and Western Ghat. The temple has a two storeyed gopura or gateway tower, with the upper storey having wooden trails covering the Kottupura. Sri Mangaladevi Temple is calm, peaceful, spiritual, and deeply rooted in our history. Daily Pooja at 6am morning, 1pm in the afternoon and evening Pooja at 8.40pm everyday except on Friday (9pm) Temple has ample space for parking in front of temple The darshan was smooth and well-managed, and the priests at the temple perform the rituals with devotion. As my in-laws are from Bolar, I start my activities only after visiting Sri Mangaladevi Temple when in Mangalore

The Mangaladevi Temple in Mangalore is a sacred and revered destination. Although there isn’t a designated parking area, we managed to park along the roadside. It is said that during the festive celebrations of Amma, the temple becomes very crowded, so we chose to visit on a quiet evening. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful, allowing us to have a pleasant and fulfilling experience.

There’s a strong sense of history here, and you can feel the importance of the temple to the local community. The whole experience leaves you feeling grounded and positive. If you’re in Mangalore, this is a temple you shouldn’t miss. It’s a wonderful place to sit for a few minutes, pray and soak in the peaceful surroundings.

St.Aloysius Chapel

Chapel
Sights & Landmarks
St. Aloysius Chapel, completed in 1885, is a grand Christian chapel located in Mangalore. The chapel features remarkable frescos by Italian artist Antonio Moscheni that depict the life of Aloysius Gonzaga and Jesus Christ, from birth to crucifixion. Situated atop Light House Hill, it boasts impressive architecture reminiscent of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. This historical gem is a must-see for art enthusiasts and those on a spiritual journey in Mangalore.
The large Jesuit complex dedicated to St Aloysius Gonzaga (1568-91) comprises a school, college and several other buildings, among which one of the more prominent ones from the point of view of tourism is the St Aloysius Chapel. This pale blue and white church was built in 1885 under the supervision of Fr. Joseph Willy. Four years later, the Italian Jesuit Brother Antony Moscheni arrived in Mangalore and painted the interiors of the chapel. From the outside, this church doesn't look especially impressive, but we were completely bowled over by what we saw inside - my husband, in fact, was comparing this to the Sistine Chapel! Moscheni, of course, is no Michelangelo, but the intricacy and the scale of the decoration are really very similar. Almost every square inch of the interiors - ceiling, walls, everything - is covered with detailed paintings of the life of Christ; the parables, verses from the Bible, the stations of the cross, and the life of St Aloysius. No photography is allowed inside the chapel, therefore there are no pictures with my review, but if you like Christian art, do not miss this.

✨ A Timeless Treasure on Lighthouse Hill – My Experience at St Aloysius Chapel, Mangaluru Nestled atop the serene Lighthouse Hill, the St Aloysius Chapel is not just a place of worship—it’s a canvas of devotion, history, and breathtaking artistry. Stepping through its regal entrance, I felt as though I had crossed into a sacred gallery where every wall whispered stories of faith and craftsmanship. 🎨 Art That Speaks to the Soul The interiors are a visual symphony. Painted by Italian Jesuit Antonio Moscheni in the late 19th century, the frescoes cover nearly every inch of the chapel—walls, ceilings, arches—with scenes from the life of Christ and St Aloysius Gonzaga. The detail is astonishing, and the colors, though aged, still glow with reverence. 🕊️ Atmosphere of Peace and Awe Despite being in the heart of Mangaluru, the chapel exudes a quietude that’s rare. The air inside feels hushed, as if the paintings themselves demand silence. Photography is not allowed, which only deepens the sense of sacredness and encourages you to be fully present. 🏛️ A Museum Worth Exploring Adjacent to the chapel is a small museum that’s a hidden gem. It houses centuries-old coins, stamps, and artifacts contributed by Jesuit priests over generations. It’s compact but rich in stories, and you can explore it in under an hour. 👣 A Personal Reflection If you’re in Mangaluru and have an eye for detail, a heart for history, or simply a love for places that stir the soul, St Aloysius Chapel is a must-visit. It’s not just a landmark—it’s an experience that lingers.

Beautiful chapel with brilliant frescoes. The blue and white exterior is most mesmerising. Photography inside is not permitted which is good. This encourages visitors to spend few moments in silence and pray with devotion, a value grossly missing in todays social media savvy times. Good luck to the management team in maintaining the sanctity of this revered space.

Can’t praise the chapel adequately. Our tour driver recommended a visit & since we were ahead of schedule, we dropped in with no notion of what to expect. The building is beautiful, but the exquisite frescos covering the walls & ceiling were the high point. We have travelled all over the world & seen some of the best frescoes and I’d say these compare with the best. The additional charm is that no one is rushing you & the visit is free. However, I would recommend a donation for upkeep of the frescoes

The collection of the Jesuits from many centuries at the Aloysium is a must see when you travel to Mangalore. They have a variety of displays from the images I've shared like the whale skeleton and tortoise shells. Additionally there is a huge stamp & coin collection, sea shells, vintage camera from many decades and a much more. Make sure to check the timings since it is open daily and closed for lunch between 1-2pm

The Kadri Shree Manjunatha Temple, located in Mangalore, is a stunning Hindu temple with a rich history dating back to the 10th or 11th century. The temple underwent significant transformation during the 14th century, evolving into a solid stone structure. It houses an ancient idol of Lord Manjunathaswamy and features exquisite black granite sculptures and copper roof shikharas.
🌟 Kadri Shree Manjunatha Temple, Mangaluru is a serene and spiritually uplifting destination that beautifully blends history, architecture, and divinity 🕉️. Located atop a small hill, the temple welcomes visitors with ancient stone steps, lush greenery 🌿, and an atmosphere filled with peace and devotion. From the moment you arrive, the scent of incense sticks 🌸, the sound of temple bells 🔔, and chants echoing in the background 🎶 create a deeply calming aura. The main deity, Lord Manjunatha (a form of Lord Shiva), sits in a yogic posture and is made of exquisite bronze, considered one of the oldest idols in South India 🛕. The powerful expression of the idol is enough to move any devotee. Apart from the main sanctum, you will find shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Goddess Durga, Lord Subramanya, and the Navagrahas 🌟 — each idol carved beautifully with divine energy. Outside the sanctum, there's a sacred pond called Pushkarini, where many devotees take a holy dip before entering the temple 💧. The water feels cool and pure, adding to the spiritual atmosphere. Despite being crowded, the temple is incredibly well maintained. Clean surroundings, proper footwear counters 👣, and ample water facilities 🚰 make it easy for everyone to enjoy the visit, including senior citizens 👵👴. One of the highlights is attending the mangal aarti 💥. The energy during the rituals is mesmerizing — the sound of conches 🐚, rhythmic bells 🔔, and Vedic chants 📿 elevate the whole experience to something truly spiritual. You can also find peaceful corners to sit, meditate 🧘, or simply absorb the divine energy around you. A fun part of the visit is the friendly monkeys 🐒 roaming around the temple. They’re playful and often entertaining, but it's smart to be cautious with food or offerings 🍌. Their presence adds a unique charm to the overall experience. 📸 For photography lovers, this temple is a visual delight. From the reddish stone walls and golden temple top shining in the sunlight 🌄 to the intricate carvings and brass lamps inside, every angle offers a perfect shot. Morning and evening are the best times for photos. Each corridor and pillar tells a story of devotion, history, and craftsmanship 🛕✨. Outside the temple, you’ll find stalls offering prasadam and tasty local snacks like vadas, banana chips 🍌, and coconut water 🥥. The temple’s own prasadam was simple yet fulfilling — something that touches both the stomach and the soul 💖. 👍 Cleanliness was top-notch. Volunteers and temple authorities deserve appreciation for maintaining such a busy place with such discipline 🌿. There are hand wash points, clean restrooms 🚽, and seating areas too. Overall, Kadri Shree Manjunatha Temple is a must-visit for anyone in or around Mangaluru — whether you are a spiritual seeker, history lover, or cultural explorer 📚. The divine vibes, the architectural marvel, and the overall peaceful experience make it one of the most memorable temples I have ever visited 🕉️💫.

Kadri Manjunatha Temple – Timeless Spirituality Amid Nature’s Grace : The main deity is Lord Manjunatha (Shiva), enshrined in an ancient stone sanctum with an impressive eight-foot bronze idol. Among its treasures is the Lokeshwara idol, one of South India’s oldest and finest bronze images. Sub-shrines for Durga, Subramanya (Ayyappa), and Ganapati add to its spiritual charm. Temple Timings (may vary on festival days) Morning: 5:00 AM – 2:00 PM Evening: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM Sacred Waters & Gomukh Ganapati A highlight is the Gomukh Ganapati, where pure spring water flows naturally from a cow-shaped spout (gomukh) all year round. This crystal-clear water—used for abhishekam of the Shiva Linga and collected by devotees like sacred Ganges water—is believed to cleanse both body and soul. It also feeds the seven holy ponds (Kundas) and the shrines of Lord Manjunatha’s divine siblings. Shani Pooja – A Special Offering The Shani Pooja, dedicated to Lord Shani (Saturn), draws devotees seeking relief from Saturn’s malefic effects and blessings of balance and discipline. The solemn chants and atmosphere bring a deep sense of calm. Rituals & Festivals:- Daily worship fills the air with Vedic hymns and the fragrance of camphor. Kadri Jatre (temple fair): usually in January around Makara Sankranti, with grand processions and cultural programs. Kadri Kambala (buffalo race): typically held during the winter Kambala season (Nov–Feb, depending on their lunar calender) in the paddy fields near the temple. Whether we visit as a pilgrim, a history lover, or a traveler seeking peace, the experience stays with us long after we leave the temple.

Very beautiful and one of the most popular Lord Shiva temples in manglore.🙏🏻 The place is really calm, quiet and peaceful . Morning times are the best to visit the temple to experience the calmness. Right from entering the gate of temple we feel as though we have stepped into a place surrounded by nature 🌿 and enchanted calmness. Here Lord Ganesha , Goddess Parvati , Lord Ayyappa and few other deities are also worshipped. This temple has lots of levels At the ground floor you can see the main deities which I mentioned above. When you climb stairs to firt floor you will reach a place with a big rectangle water tank divided into amall square shaped tanks. There are folklore legends that these water tanks hold medicinal values and taking a dip in these water tanks cure many diseases. The water in these tanks is filled by the great Kaashi Bhagirathi River. It flows out through an opening under Lord Ganesha temple. People can drink that theertham from there as well fill bottle to carry the theertham home. This same theertham can be filled in small brass vessels near to a stairs and we can do jal archana by our own hands to Lord Shiva which have to again climb few stairs to reach the Shiva lingam.🙏🏻 There is a big statue of Lord Hanuman if you climb little more further. The view from here is mesmerizing. There are a lot of steps to go up and down. So if you are planning to visit only the main deities then it's at the ground floor which you can reach by climbing only a few steps. But rest all the other areas have a lot of climbing to do. The experience was really awesome with the blend of nature and the place really keeps attracting me back.🙏🏻😊 Must visit temple 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Kadri Manjunatha Temple, nestled in the heart of Mangaluru, is one of the oldest temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Believed to date back to the 11th century, its architecture bears the imprint of regional dynasties and offers a glimpse into the social, cultural, and religious life of the time. Over the centuries, the temple evolved into a vibrant center for community gatherings, extending its role beyond spiritual worship. The temple complex is enriched by natural springs, laterite caves, and sacred water tanks. At the rear, an elevated spring known as Gomukha emerges from the hillside. Local belief holds that its waters originate from the Bhageerathi River in Kashi, earning it the revered name Kashi Bhageerathi Theertha. From Gomukha, the water flows into nine adjacent ponds of varying sizes, each adding to the temple’s serene and mystical ambiance.

Kadri Manjunath temple also known as Kadri Manjunatha temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva in Mangalore, Karnataka, is one of the oldest Shiva temples. Hence, this historic temple is one of the must-visit temples in Kadri, Mangalore, for devotees of Lord Shiva. As per Kadri Manjunath temple history, the temple is really old as it was built in the 10th or 11th century and was transformed into a stone structure in the 14th century. Hindu and Buddhist histories intertwine with the temple. People practised Buddhism until the 10th century CE. The Nath cult was a mix of Hindu and Buddhist traditions and saw a decline, after which the Buddhist temples were converted into Hindu places of worship. Furthermore, as per the words of poet and writer Govinda Pai, ‘Manjunatha’ refers to Lord Shiva and ‘Kadri’ is a part of Kadri Vihara, a Buddhist monastery belonging to the Vajrayana cult. Kadri Manjunath temple has references in mythology related to Parashurama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. After slaying the Kshatriyas, Parashurama prayed and appealed to Lord Shiva for a place to live. Lord Shiva directed him to seek shelter in a new place called the Kadrivana. Paying heed to the Lord’s words, Parashurama, after an immense struggle with the ocean king, secured the place that he occupied near the Kadri hills to set up the Kadrivana for Lord Manjunatha. Consequently, the place became the abode of Lord Manjunatha, where devotees now flock to the place for the Lord’s blessings. Kadri hills are also mentioned in the “Bharadwaja Samhita,” a Sanskrit text. Hence, Kadri was famous for being the abode of Lord Manjunatha (Lord Shiva) in ancient times. The presiding deity of Kadri Manjunath temple is Lord Manjunatheshwara, worshipped as a Shiva Linga. There are also shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Durga in the temple. Furthermore, there are beautiful bronze idols of Lokeshwar, Avalokiteshwar, Veda Vyasa, Machendranath, Gorakanath, Shringinath, Buddha etc in the temple. The Lokeshwar idol is one of the oldest bronze idols in India. Also, the Saptha Mantras became the Saptha Theerthas or the seven ponds. Gomukha, a natural spring, is found in an elevated location near the temple. According to popular belief, the water from the spring is that of River Bhageerathi in Kashi; hence, it acquired the name Kashi Bhageerathi Theertha. Before entering the temple, people dip in the nine ponds, which contain water from the natural spring. There is also a Shiva Linga further up, where people fill vessels with water from the natural spring and perform Abhishekam with their own hands. There is also a shrine dedicated to Shani Dev. The annual festival of Jathra Mahothsava, held for nine days during January, begins on the Makara Sankranti. It is celebrated with pomp and religious fervour. The distance from Mangalore to Kadri Manjunath temple is 5.3 KM, and Kadri Manjunatha temple is about 346 KM from Bangalore. By Air Mangalore airport is the nearest airport, which is about 12.4 KM from Kadri. From there, you can hire a cab to the Kadri Manjunatha temple. By Train Mangalore Railway Station is the nearest station to Kadri, which is about 3.5 km away. From there, one can take a cab to the Kadri Manjunath temple. Mangalore Railway Station is well connected to all the southern states via rail. By Road Mangalore is well connected to the other major cities by road. Numerous KSRTC buses ply in the area, making it convenient for tourists. Tourists can also hire a cab to reach the Kadri Manjunatha temple. To conclude, the Kadri Manjunatha temple is a must-visit for devotees of Lord Shiva.

This is a must visit temple if you are in the vicinity of Mangalore. It dates all the way back to the 10th-11th centuries. There is a fresh water spring the source of which is supposedly the Bhagirathi river in Kashi, hence considered very holy. There are also caves that date back to 4-6th century AD. They are purported to be visited by the Pandavas.
Suchitra K — Google review
Visiting the Temple in the morning is such a calming experience. The cool breeze, the faint sound of temple bells, and the early sunlight just sets a peaceful tone for the day. The place feels really pure and quiet at that hour, away from the usual crowd. The architecture beautifully blends old-world charm with spiritual energy. There are also smaller shrines around, and the natural springs near the temple are believed to have holy water. The surroundings, the small pond, and the greenery around the hill just add to the charm. One of the best parts is pouring water over the Shivling. There’s something very soothing about it.

One of best temples of Mangaluru. A must visit and enjoy the yummy anna prasadam during the lunch. I was amazed to see many school and college kids in their uniform at the lunch to enjoy the free and tasty food they provide everyday to the devotees. Please note wear some kind of socks during summer as it will be gruesomely difficult to walk on the stone floor in hot weather.

Sultan Bathery, also known as Sultans Battery, is a significant historical site in Mangalore. Built by Tipu Sultan in the 18th century, this watchtower was strategically positioned to monitor naval activity. Made of black stones, it housed chambers used for storing weapons and offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea and lush surroundings from its top. Additionally, visitors can access Thannirbhavi beach from here via ferry service which operates regularly until 7pm.

The town of Mangalore saw many ups and downs and switching between overlords, especially during the 18th century. In 1763, Haider Ali had captured the town and built a dockyard here; five years later the British ousted him, but in 1794 Haider Ali's son Tipu Sultan was able to defeat the British and take back Mangalore. While he was in control of Mangalore, Tipu built a low, squat watch tower here, overlooking the Gurpur River. Guns were mounted here, in what is obviously a defensive fortification, even though it's not very large. It's known as Sultan Battery or Sulthan Batheri. It takes only a couple of minutes to see this battery; you climb some thirty steps or so, and you are there, where there is really nothing much to see except the view of the river beyond. No entrance fees are charged for Sultan Battery.

Tannirbhavi Beach, accessible by bridge or ferry from the Gurupura river, is a tranquil and popular destination known for its vast shores and captivating atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy activities such as camel riding, swimming, and surfing while basking in the golden sands and azure blue waters. The beach offers a paradisiacal retreat ideal for relaxation, with stunning views during sunrise and sunset.
It was such a delight to visit this beach. The water access was closed as we were visiting at the heels of the monsoon but the sand was clean and the sunset was beautiful. The blue flag beach project infra created under the smart City - was one of its kind that I have seen in India and the civic amenities offered were really good. They recently launched and it would make this beach the 13th blue certified beach in India. The atmosphere was quite lively while maintaining the serenity of the place

You can feel the might of the great sea here. Amazing. Mind blowing. The beach is enclosed in both sides sadly, and even in the front due to it being monsoon so not much to do but sit and stare. If you are lucky you can even spot a few peacocks. Note: They charge you Rs. 100 per 1.5 hours for the umbrella chairs, the non-umbrella benches are free.

Tannirbhavi Beach in Mangalore is a hidden gem for anyone looking for peace away from the hustle of the city. The shoreline is wide, clean, and far less commercialized than most popular beaches, making it perfect for long walks, sunsets, or simply sitting by the waves. The sea breeze here feels refreshing, and the golden hour views are absolutely worth the visit. What I loved most is the calm and uncrowded vibe—you can actually hear the sound of the waves without constant noise around. However, since there aren’t too many shops or eateries nearby, it’s better to carry your own snacks and water. Also, swimming can be tricky because of the strong currents. Overall, Tannirbhavi Beach is a beautiful spot to unwind, capture stunning pictures, and experience coastal Karnataka in its raw, natural form. 🌊✨

Lived up to the expectations of a Blue Flag award. To get here, you take a short ferry ride from near Sultan Bathery across the Gurpur river, followed by a quick 400-meter walk. The month I was here (July), the tides were high and barriers along the shore kept us from entering the waters. Such a beautiful spot to spend time at. There are mini cafes at the entrance where you can grab a quick bite during your visit. Sorry I don’t have the best pictures!

Tannirbhavi Beach which is a blue flag beach awarded by Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), India for that meet high standards in water quality, environmental management, safety, and sustainable tourism. Essentially, it signifies a beach that is clean, well-managed, and environmentally responsible. The beach was very gorgeous, neat and I really fall in love with the beach. Since its rainy season and lot of high tides around in Arabian sea, Beach management asked visitors not to enter into the sea and they put barricades around the sea. Worth visiting.

Just a 30-minute drive from the heart of the city, this beach offers peace, beauty, and a deep sense of calm. What surprised us the most was that we were the only people there! It felt like a private beach. The place is clean, well-maintained, and full of natural beauty. The sand is soft, and there are so many beautiful sea shells—kids will love collecting them. The colours of the sky during sunset were just magical. The photos and videos we took don’t even do justice to how stunning it looked in person. Historically, Thanneer Bhavi has been known as a peaceful riverside spot, and over time, it became a calm coastal beach visited mostly by locals. Unlike the more popular beaches, this one is quiet and serene—perfect for those who want to enjoy nature without the crowd. If you’re visiting Mangalore and want to experience the raw beauty of the sea, Thanneer Bhavi Beach is a must-visit. You’ll come back feeling refreshed and connected to nature.

One of the best beaches in Mangalore, it is always under the supervision of life guards. Ample parking space available, the beach has street food stalls and also a beach resort and bar Overall loved the place

Panambur Beach — a really nice beach, though it gets quite crowded in the evenings. The best time to visit is early in the morning to truly enjoy the vibe. When we went, it started raining, and the dramatic visuals of nature were both stunning and a bit scary to witness.

Located some 12 km from the city centre, situated quite inside from the main road, this beach doesn’t come close to the fame it has. It’s a dirty, badly maintained and just one-time visit type of beach. Quite spacious and good scope to develop it as a model- sea beach, Government apathy and lackadaisical attitude towards any tourism places not just beaches have made such a wonderful location in a just one cheap and third grade beach. I don’t recommend. But yes, it does have some extra activities to for enjoyment.

One of clean and decent beach… nice to spent time here but beach is closed by 7.30 pm… water sports also available here

Ancient Shri Saavira Kambada Chandranatha Swamy Basadi

Jain temple
Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
This place is really interesting! It's an old Jain temple with a rich history, famous for having a lot of pillars. The nane Savira kambada basadi-literally means basadi made up of thousand pillars. It was built during the Vijayanagara period, which is pretty important. The architecture is amazing. Just so you know, there’s a small entry fee of 5rs, and if you want to take photos, it costs 100 rupees for the camera. It’s worth visiting if you like history and beautiful buildings.
Harshith K — Google review
Temple is a serene and spiritually uplifting place. The atmosphere is calm, and the idol is very divine and beautifully decorated. The temple is clean and well-maintained, and the priests are polite and helpful. It’s a wonderful place to start your day with blessings and peace of mind. A must-visit for devotees
AKSHAY S — Google review
Moodabidri Temple is a testament to architectural brilliance. This is old jain temple and is famous for its pillars. Parking space is limited in front of the temple. Very calm place to visit. The building structure and its sculpture are both breathtaking. A must visit place in Karnataka.
Prashobh A — Google review
The Thousand Pillar Temple in Moodabidri is a testament to architectural brilliance and intricate craftsmanship. This Jain temple, built in the 15th century, boasts a stunning collection of over 1,000 pillars, each adorned with unique and exquisite carvings. The intricate details on these pillars, depicting scenes from Jain mythology and daily life, showcase the skill and dedication of the artisans who created this masterpiece. Beyond the pillars, the temple's serene atmosphere and the towering statue of Lord Chandraprabha, the 8th Tirthankar, create a sense of tranquility and spirituality. Built around 1430 CE during the Vijayanagara Empire by Jain chieftain Devaraya Wodeyar. Moodabidri, known as "Jain Kashi," was a key Jain center during the medieval period. Features nearly a thousand intricately carved granite pillars, each unique with detailed carvings. Main deity is Chandranatha Swamy, the eighth Jain Tirthankara. Three-tiered structure with a decorated tower (Manastambha) at the entrance. Intricately carved entrance, doorways, and ceilings showcase artisans' skill. Navaranga Hall, a large space supported by the pillars, is used for religious rituals. Moodabidri has a rich Jain heritage with several other basadis nearby. Manastambha, a tall commemorative pillar, marks the temple’s sanctity. Temple houses a precious collection of Jain palm-leaf manuscripts

Nagarjun K — Google review
For Non jains you have to purchase ticket of 10rs. For entering. For taking photos, it is 100Rs. A very quite and nice temple. There are no 1000 pillars as such, but there are a number of pillars. Visitors should keep silence and sanctity during visit.

Excursions to nearby forests provide opportunities to see butterflies in their natural environment, making it a paradise for nature lovers.
I really enjoyed this place! If you're a nature enthusiast and eager to learn more about butterflies, this is the perfect spot. Sindhu, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and provided excellent explanations throughout the tour. The entry fee is Rs. 200 per person, and it's important to inform them prior to your visit. The place is open only until the afternoon, as butterfly sightings decrease later in the day.

The garden's night walk was thrilling, revealing many nocturnal creatures. We savored delicious Mangalorean meals throughout our stay. Excursions to nearby forests allowed us to observe butterflies in their natural habitats. Kudos to Sammilan's team for their excellent organization. Don't miss to buy the beautiful butterfly lapel pins as a souvenir.

Aimed at spreading awareness about butterflies, this Butterfly Park is a must visit. The owner is extremely patient and explains both via a presentation and in-person the lifecycle of a butterfly, the speciality of each type of butterfly. The park showcases a diverse variety of butterflies and plants. It's educational and highly interesting.

I have been visiting this place since 2021, it's been getting more and more awesome, a 3 day session is must visit to see more butterfly activities be it in summer or monsoon, if you go for one day visit you may not be able to see much activity and a butterfly life documentary will be screened at the park. Do try to attend both monsoon and summer meets to see more number of butterflies, also the park is not just for butterflies, you will also find other creatures as well, if you are a macro photographer then you will get one or the other to photograph like moths, snakes, frogs scorpions, spiders and nany more.

Natural, sandy stretch backed by mangrove trees, known for strong waves & annual surf festivals.
One the best beach near Mangalore. this beach is not crowded. This beach has a sea walk. But it was closed when we visited here on 14 Feb 2025. Not sure when it will open. A request to all visitors keep this beach clean. I saw some wrappers. I don't know what problem people have with the clean beach.

It was a lovely place to visit 🏖️. You have to pay a 20 rupee entry fee per person to access the beach 🌴, which features a beautiful bridge similar to the Malpe Sea Walk 🌉. The bridge offers stunning views of the river on one side and the sea on the other 🌊. Overall, it was well worth visiting, especially the bridge 🤩. It's also an ideal spot for a photo shoot 📸.

This place is stunning! It's serene, pristine, and you can enjoy the sound of waves undisturbed. Located approximately 3km from NH66, it's a hidden gem in the Mangalore area, boasting less crowd compared to other beaches. What makes it unique is its estuary. It's the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Beach is good. But not properly maintained by the caretaking division of government. There is no facility at all. Beach is full of garbage, not enough dustbins kept, no washrooms, no first aid, no drinking water facility, and no guards are sitting near the beach. Simply they are charging 20 Rs. Per person at the entrance. Even people are throwing the garbages wherever they want.

Best beach experience of my life! Worth visiting and staying there! It's little bit interior but worth a try... Was on cloud nine the moment reached there... Decent, clean and no crowd or less crowd beach... Many home stays on Airbnb are available for this beach.

Underrated beach / Delta point where two rivers meet to join the Arabian Sea with lot less crowd than other beaches around. Beach is overall fine but with a lot of debris lying around. Also, this place doesn’t have any hawkers/eateries around so carry water bottles/food on your own (and don’t litter). You can drive up to the end point in your car as there’s enough space for parking. Entry/Parking fee is ₹20* and the gate leading to the delta point is open till 6:30PM* evening.

Mountains
Kurinjaala Betta, located in the Kudremukh Range, is a lush mountain covered in dense rainforest. The peak stands at 1160m and offers strenuous hiking trails for visitors. Bhagavati Nature Camp provides easy access to this peak, with a 7km trek to the summit that requires a guide as per forest department norms. However, leeches are abundant along the path due to the forest canopy and thick/moist foliage.
Visited on 20th Oct 2024, Kurinjal is yet another beautiful peak among the Kudremukha Ranges, which is also an easy trek compared to other peaks. It's worth the trekking efforts, a must visit peak! Place is less crowded too. The path to the peak is just beautiful 💚 I would never forget the forest route trek while returning, will always cherish it forever. You will first get to see the magnificent Bhadra river flowing under the bridge, then you must trek in the beautiful forest covers. We spotted a Malabar giant squirrel 🐿️ and few endemic birds too. There are no eateries on the way/peak. So take water and packed food for lunch along with you. Trek: Total 14kms of trek for both ways. It took us 2.45 hours to reach the peak from the base point. We got a clear view of Gangadikallu from the peak, and the other side was full of fog. Difficulty: Trekking difficulty level is easy. Only the last 1km trek is steep. There were lots of leaches though. Permission: Please make a reservation on the Kudremukha website before starting the trek. You will get a mail, take a print copy of that along with aadhar card of each member. Submit everything in 'RFO Kudremukha' office. They will charge 450Rs/person and 1 guide is mandatory for a group of 10 people, worth 1k Rs. Then they will give you an ID card for each member, collect that and start trekking. Note: RFO Kudremukha office opens around 6.30am. They won't usually give the permission to trek post 11pm. So plan accordingly, don't be late. Enjoy the nature, please do not litter 🚯
Prakash P — Google review
This kurinjal trek is about 7km from the base point, the last 2km you are exposed to the green mountain ranges and the incline is steep at the last 1km. The view at the top you can see the kudremukha range of mountains. The trek is moderate carry enough water and food, you are not permitted to trek without a guide.
Girish K — Google review
An absolute stunner of a trek — Kurinjal Peak is one of those places that reminds you why you love the outdoors. Located in Kudremukh National Park, this moderate-level trek offers a perfect mix of dense forest trails, open grasslands, and jaw-dropping views at the summit. The trail is well-marked and beginner-friendly, though you’ll break a good sweat by the time you hit the top. Once you’re there — totally worth it. Rolling hills, misty valleys, and endless green in every direction. You’ll need prior forest department permission and a guide (mandatory, since it’s inside a protected area), but the process is smooth and well-managed.

Best scenic route in western ghats of karnataka range . Will be lost in the mother nature . Kudurekukh has many trekking spots along with the beautiful waterfalls covering thick forest and lush green Graceland. This route will makes you to feel you are in heaven . And comes to the iron and ore mining there us a village in the kuduremukha township now has become a ghost town . It is clear message to the human being about the development activities in forest and hill station that natural will truely take over it's land if it is necessary can be seen in the ghost town . Do visit once and try to avoid carrying plastic and keep this range as beautiful as it is .
Jaikumar P — Google review
"5/5 stars! Recently trekked to Kurinjal Peak in Kudremukh and was blown away by the scenic views and rich biodiversity. The 12-14 km trek takes you through dense forests, grasslands, and rocky patches, offering breathtaking views of the Western Ghats. It's essential to book in advance through the online portal and obtain a copy of the ticket upon arrival. A guide is compulsory, costing around ₹1,000 for a group of 10 people. From the ticket office to the base camp, it's approximately 8 km, which can be covered using your own transport for ₹100. There's also a camera fee of ₹300 for DSLRs. One thing to note is that there are leeches present, so it's advisable to carry salt or Dettol to tackle them. We visited in June, which was challenging due to the rain, but the lush green landscapes and unique experiences made it a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. However, for the best experience, October to November is the ideal time to visit, offering clear views and pleasant weather. Moderately challenging, but totally worth it!"
Deepak S — Google review
Great place for a 1 day trek and it's very moderate for all types of people to enjoy. One drinking water point available while going and nothing after that. If we get a good weather it's a fantastic view from the top. The peak itself is very sharp and might look bit scary from distant, but not a big problem to reach there.
Jagan K — Google review
The Kudremukh Range in Chikmagalur is truly nature's therapy. The rolling hills, lush green valleys, mist-covered peaks, and gushing streams create a magical atmosphere that soothes the soul. Whether you're trekking through its trails or simply gazing at the scenery, every moment feels refreshing and healing. The untouched wilderness, cool breeze, and sounds of birds chirping create a perfect escape from the stress of daily life. Kudremukh is not just a destination — it’s an experience that reconnects you with nature, peace, and yourself. A must-visit for every nature lover, trekker, or anyone seeking calm and inspiration.

Just go through the pictures, you will well understand what a lovely beach it is. One can reach there within an hour from Udupi by personal vehicle or rented. One can even go by bus. Get down at padubidri market and take an auto to reach the spot. As soon as you reach the fisheries road the whole environment opens up. As if and actually you are taking a marine drive. The entire stretch is amazing. You can reach the most talked blue flag beach through the same route. You can get down at any point to enjoy the golden sand, the huge water body. A perfect place to enjoy solitude with Nature. Enjoy the sunset, feel the cold water on your feet, the breeze - all for your rejuvenation. At least visit for once and you will not regret.

Absolutely loved this beach. It's one of the best blue flag beach india has as of now. Super clean, peaceful and serene. People who wish to visit, kindly keep the beach clean and don't litter around. There is a 40rs ticket entry free. There is small garden which connects to the beach on the right side. There are facilities like changing rooms, clean toilets, clean drinking water provided by the staff there. There is small pond or lake there where one may enjoy kayaking which costs 200rs per person for half an hour. There is also food joint corner available inside but food there was average. Highly recommend to visit this serene beach and don't miss to catch the beautiful sunset.

This is a quiet and clean beach especially in the morning time. Even in the evening, it's not as crowded as Malpe. It's easy to find a spot all to yourself where you can have a great time with friends and family. The beach and surroundings have been kept clean and free of litter. Recently while staying at Paradise Isle Resort Malpe, we went to visit Padubidri Beach Blue Flag Beach. Our taxi driver asked us if we wanted to go there by the highway or by alternate Malpe Padukar to Pangla Road Route. We opted for Malpe Padukar to Pangla Road route. Glad we did. This route is on a strip of land less than a kilometre in width between the Arabian Sea and the backwaters. View it on Google Maps.  While driving, in many places you can see water on both sides of the road. It is very picturesque and beautiful. The sight of small single-storied houses with red-roofed Mangalore tiles nestling among lush green coconut grooves presents a pretty picture.Though this has nothing to do with the review of Podubidri Beach Blue Flag Beach, I decided to open my review by writing about it as I personally feel that it is a very picturesque drive and one must not miss it.Now a word about Blue Fag Beach. Just to save you a google search :-) It is an eco-label certification awarded to beaches, marinas, and sustainable boat tourism operators. It is given by an international jury of members from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Their recommendations are based on 33 criteria under four categories, viz, environmental education, quality of bathing water, environmental management and conservation. It is considered a very prestigious award and a matter of pride for any beach, marina or tour operator to be presented with this certification.Podibidri Beach is one of the only 12 beaches in India that have been awarded Blue Flag Certification.Enough parking is provided for the visitors to park their vehicles.  The entry fee for three hours is RS 40/- per adult. A very nice and unique circular gate provides entry to the beach.  One thing that strikes you is the cleanliness all around, the paths, the garden the beach and the surroundings is the 'Cleanliness', and no wonder as that is one of the criteria for the award of the blue flag certification.A combination of an umbrella and a mat or an umbrella and a recliner are available. Information boards give information about various aspects of the beach. Among the facilities provided are washrooms for ladies, gents and differently-abled people, a changing room and an open-air shower facility is also available. There is a walking track and Kids' play area. Towards the backwater side watersport facilities are also available.  There is a cafe. We ordered milkshakes which were reasonably priced and were quite good. The white sands and the blue waters looked very clean and inviting but as we had not gone with a plan to swim, we just enjoyed the beauty.  After spending a wonderful and enjoyable time at Pdoubodri Blue Flag Beach we returned with good memories.

Karkala Shri Gomateshwara Statue

Jain temple
Sights & Landmarks
Built in the 15th century, this soaring Jain statue stands 40 ft. tall on its hilltop perch.
A short 15 minutes walk to the top offers a peaceful and surreal experience. You can truly feel the calmness of the place. It is best to visit early in the morning and carry a bottle of water. Please do not litter and help preserve the serenity of the spot.
T.VIGNESH N — Google review
Well this is a historic place. Uphill in the heart of the infamous city Karkala. Travel there by local bus and walk up 200steps to see the beautifully carved statue of Gommateshwara. This is built with a single stone and stands for so many centuries. Earlier in my childhood i remember seeing the statue while passing through Karkala or a nearby bus but now it's not visible. Probably because of the wall built around the statue to surround it as a Jain temple. The walk is not that tedious. It's easy walking up. Carry your water bottles. The view is amazing from the top. Be ready to get your good lens out for some awesome shots/reels. There are eateries at the foot of the mountain. Reasonably priced. The time up depends on how long you want to be up, but post the temple/ statue visit you can just run down. Total time up can be within 30-45mins.

This place is located at karkala , around 40-45 km away from Udup.Built in 1432 CE, this 583 year old monolith in Karkala is the second largest monolith of Gommateshwara at 42 ft height. Karkala was known as Pandya Nagari in the ancient times, later known as Karikallu (Black stone), and now as Karkala. There were 181 rock cut steps to reach this huge statue on a small hill top. Best time is early morning because its really gets hot thereafter. There is no entry fee to enter this area. . Very good place to see the ancient art of rock cutting. There is enough parking space for free and lot of refreshment shops nearby.

things to do here: - climb around 30-40mins sunset time for the day for beautiful scenery overlooking entire karkala town - sit on the stones or outside the temple for a relaxed time - come back down and have grandpas churmuri at the entrance - theres many more local eateries right on entrance that have local taste, esp gobi manchuri or masala puri

A very historic and religious place in karkala ! Must visit place ! Shri Gommateshwara Statue, also known as Bahubali of Karkala, is an iconic monolithic structure located 42 km from Udupi and 2.6 km from Karkala. This magnificent statue, standing at an impressive 42 feet, is renowned for its grand presence and religious significance.
Jason P — Google review
The Gomateshwara Temple in Karkala, Karnataka, is one of the most revered and iconic Jain pilgrimage sites in South India. Located on a small hillock in the town of Karkala in Udupi district, this majestic site is known for its massive monolithic statue of Bahubali, also known as Gomateshwara. Standing at a towering height of approximately 42 feet, this statue is carved from a single granite stone and is the second tallest of its kind in Karnataka after the one in Shravanabelagola. The statue was installed in 1432 AD by Veerapandya, a Jain king of the Santara dynasty, who ruled the region during that time. He was a devout follower of Jainism and commissioned this masterpiece as a symbol of peace, sacrifice, and spiritual awakening. The serene expression and meditative posture of Bahubali reflect the core values of Jain philosophy—non-violence, renunciation, and liberation. Surrounding the statue is a beautifully constructed stone platform, with intricately carved stone steps leading to the top. At the base, one can see stone-carved inscriptions and beautifully detailed sculptures that reflect the artistic excellence of the time. The temple is entirely made of stone, and its architecture is a blend of simplicity and spiritual grandeur. Every 12 years, the temple hosts the Mahamastakabhisheka, a grand Jain ritual where the statue is bathed with milk, turmeric, sandalwood paste, and other sacred offerings. This draws devotees and tourists from across the country and the world. The Karkala Gomateshwara Temple is not only a sacred space but also a remarkable example of India’s stone sculpture heritage, making it a must-visit spiritual and architectural marvel.

Visited the Gommateshwara statue in Karkala today — truly a breathtaking experience! The statue stands tall and peaceful on a hill, surrounded by calm nature and an amazing panoramic view of the town. The climb is short and worth every step for the view and the spiritual vibes. The place is very clean and well maintained, and the local guides share interesting history about the Jain heritage. A must-visit if you’re in Udupi or nearby areas. 🌿🙏

Kapu Beach is a serene and well-maintained destination, perfect for those who enjoy nature and quiet time by the sea. The beach is clean, scenic, and inviting, making it a great place to relax, take a stroll, or simply soak in the views. ⚠️ Seasonal Safety: During the monsoon months, entering the water is strictly prohibited due to strong tides. Clear signboards and vigilant lifeguards are present, ensuring visitor safety and creating a worry-free atmosphere. 🌴 What to Expect: • Calm walks along the sandy shoreline • Plenty of photo-worthy spots • A historic lighthouse that offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the coast • A river meeting the sea near the lighthouse, adding to the charm • Clean washrooms, changing rooms, ample parking, and an auto stand for convenience • Small eateries nearby for quick bites ✨ Even without water activities, Kapu Beach is worth a visit for its peaceful vibe, natural beauty, and well-kept facilities. Highly recommended for a relaxed getaway. Note wash rooms Also well maintenance 🧑‍🔧

Nice beach with the lighthouse on top of a little hill. Access to water is closed off with nets during high tide, which is a good idea as people usually ignore warnings. There are benches to sit. Also several fast food stalls offering variety of snacks etc.

This is one of the famous beaches of Udupi. A lighthouse by its side it's really a great beach to visit. There are adventurous water sport activities here. The staffs are friendly. They provide life jackets and safety measures are prioritized. Though crowded the place is well maintained.
Shraddha D — Google review
Kapu Beach in Mangalore is an absolutely stunning destination that deserves a full 5-star rating! The golden sand, clear blue waters, and the peaceful atmosphere make it a perfect getaway for anyone seeking relaxation and natural beauty. The highlight of the beach is the iconic lighthouse, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Arabian Sea — especially during sunset, when the sky turns into shades of orange and pink. The beach is well-maintained and not overly crowded, making it ideal for long walks, photography, or simply enjoying the soothing sound of waves. There are also a few small food stalls nearby offering delicious local snacks and refreshing coconut water. Whether you visit with family, friends, or solo, Kapu Beach gives a refreshing and memorable experience. Truly one of the best beaches in coastal Karnataka!
Dhanya J — Google review
Kapu Beach is one of the most beautiful and clean beaches in Udupi. The highlight of this place is the iconic lighthouse, which usually opens around 5:15 PM. You can climb up to the top balcony of the lighthouse and enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the sea, beach, and surrounding landscape — truly worth the experience. The beach itself is very clean and peaceful. When I visited, there weren’t many water sports activities due to a cyclone warning on the previous day, but usually Kapu Beach offers a couple of fun sports options for visitors. If you are driving from Maple Beach to Kapu Beach, don’t miss the scenic coastal road. On this stretch, you get the sea on one side and the river on the other — a beautiful experience in itself. Just ask the locals for directions to this route; they will guide you. Overall, Kapu Beach is a must-visit spot in Udupi for its natural beauty, cleanliness, and the unique lighthouse experience. Perfect for a peaceful evening or a scenic drive.

Kaup Beach is one of the most beautiful and serene beaches in Karnataka, known for its clean shoreline and peaceful atmosphere. The iconic lighthouse adds a stunning charm to the entire beach and offers a breathtaking view from the top. The waves are calm, the breeze is refreshing, and the entire place feels perfect for a quiet walk or enjoying the sunset. It’s a great spot for photography, family outings, and spending relaxing time by the sea. If you are travelling near Udupi, Kaup Beach is definitely a must-visit destination.

Kaup beach is located in the Udupi district of Karnataka, India, situated between Udupi and Mangalore along the National Highway 66. Visit Kaup beach, Experience the pristine and relatively untouched beach, and explore the historic lighthouse constructed in 1901, Enjoy the panoramic view of the sea from the top of the lighthouse. Stay at beautiful Airbnb's around the beach for a perfect quiet getaway. The lighthouse at this beach is famous and is not very crowded. The light house, built by British in 1901, is located on the shores of Arabian Sea. This light house has guided thousands of ships for years. Since the light house is constructed on a rock it gives added visibility across the sea. The tower’s height is 89 ft with three white flashes every 20 seconds and the range is 24 nautical miles. Must visit..
Shashank S — Google review
A very beautiful beach with the sea on one side and a river on the other — truly scenic and peaceful! The only downside is that the lighthouse is open only from 4–6 PM, with no morning visiting hours. So, if you’re staying in Malpe or Udupi, planning an evening visit can be a bit tricky since the road leading to the beach is quite remote and lacks sufficient street lighting.

Sirimane Falls

Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
Nestled between the charming towns of Agumbe and Sringeri, Sirimane Falls is a stunning natural gem that beckons nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. This enchanting waterfall cascades gracefully through a lush forest, creating serene pools perfect for a refreshing dip. While visiting in March revealed reduced water flow due to the approaching summer, the experience remained delightful as visitors could still bask in the soothing sounds of cascading water amidst vibrant butterflies flitting about.
It has a wide fall with decent height making it beautiful to watch. The waterfall looks beautiful during the rainy season, with strong flow and greenery all around. It's easy to reach and a nice place to relax for a while. It is well maintained with built way to go towards the waterfalls with 2 elevated places like balcony. It also have changing rooms near the falls. Budget friendly entry fee with room for parking. The toilet is available but not so clean.
Ankitha B — Google review
🌿 A peaceful and refreshing spot! Visited Sirimane Falls near Sringeri and had a wonderful experience. The waterfalls are quite calm and relaxing, with a good water flow that makes it a perfect place to unwind amidst nature. The surroundings are clean and well-maintained. The entry charge is ₹50 per head, which is reasonable for the experience. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!
Santhosh J — Google review
Sirimane Waterfall is a beautiful, peaceful spot just about 10 km from Sringeri, near Kigga village. The drive through the lush greenery is scenic and refreshing. Once you reach, there’s a short walk with steps leading to the falls – very manageable and well maintained. The waterfall itself is not too big, but it's wide and flows gently, making it safe even for kids to enjoy. The sound of water and the surrounding forest give a calm, soothing vibe. It's perfect for a quick dip or just to sit and relax by the rocks. There’s a small entry fees, and changing rooms are available, which is a big plus. It’s clean and not too crowded, especially if you go in the morning. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in Sringeri or planning a trip to the Sharadamba Temple. A peaceful nature break.

This is one of the populor waterfalls around sringeri. This watwrfall is located near Kigga and can ve easily accessible through road. There is handly 5 mins trecking needed to reach there. While other watwrfalls around thw area(maintained by govt) is closed during rainy seasons, this wayer falls will be open in most of the seasons. There is a washroom and cha ge room fscility available for tourists. The charges of 50 INR per person. There is ample amount of parking available for tourists. As the water falls from mederate height, this is not a dangerous one for tourists to get into water and spend a quality moment with nature. There are multiple watch tower for the tourists and they also have small shops which can provide snacks.

One of the best wide waterfall I never saw with that flow. Who ever go to shringari must visit that place. Such a beautiful place with nature and falls. There is change room also. Need to be very carful

Sirimane Falls is a true spectacle of nature, a place where the pristine water flows with an unparalleled grace. Nestled in the heart of a lush green landscape, this waterfall is a visual treat that will leave you mesmerized. The path to the falls is an experience in itself. As you make your way through the dense forests, you'll be greeted by the melodious chirping of birds and the sight of cows grazing peacefully by the roadside, as if welcoming you to this beautiful sanctuary. Sirimane Falls is steeped in history and spirituality. It's believed that this is the very place where the sage Rishi Rishyashringa performed his penance. His divine presence is said to have blessed the region, making him revered as the God of Rain, a fitting title for a land nourished by such a majestic cascade. This waterfall is a beautiful blend of natural splendor, peaceful serenity, and ancient folklore. It's more than just a destination; it's a journey into the heart of nature and a spiritual experience that will stay with you long after you've left.
Porla M — Google review
We need to pay 50 rupees of entry fees, No need to walk or not too many steps to get into the falls, But no compromise in Falls view. One of the most beautiful falls that I have ever visited. If water flow is less you can play in water and there are changing rooms for men women.
CHANDAN J — Google review
A Beautiful Spot Marred by Negligence. We visited Sirimane Falls in March 2023, and while the water flow was noticeably reduced due to the approaching summer, it was still a pleasant experience. Despite the crowd, we managed to stand beneath the falls and enjoy the soothing cascade for a good amount of time. The surrounding area, including the stream, was alive with butterflies, adding to the charm of the place. The facilities are decent, with separate changing rooms available for men and women. The entry fee is nominal, making it an affordable outing. However, the behavior of some visitors was disappointing—people were using shampoo and soap under the falls and littering the area with plastics. This lack of civic sense detracts from the natural beauty and highlights the need for better awareness about protecting such pristine spots. Sirimane Falls is a lovely destination, but it’s our collective responsibility to preserve its beauty. If you're visiting, please ensure you leave the place cleaner than you found it.

Koodlutheertha Falls

The waterfall known as Koodaluthirtha features a stream of water that drops 300 feet into a shallow pool. It is an excellent destination for visitors year-round, including during the summer and rainy seasons. The falls are particularly chilly in March, despite it being summertime. The falls are accessible from 9am to 3pm; after 4:00 PM, entry is prohibited by local authorities and requires a walk of approximately one kilometer.
Koodlutheertha Falls: Trek, Swim & Rainbow Magic! Koodlutheertha Falls is an absolute must-visit! A roughly 2 km, slightly challenging trek (not ideal for beginners, and beware of leeches during monsoon) leads you to this beautiful, serene waterfall. Dropping from 300 feet, it creates a refreshing atmosphere where you're allowed to get close and swim. The trek itself is pleasing, with small streams and large steps. We even found a spot with a rainbow near the falls – an amazing highlight! The department maintains it well, with almost no littering. It's peaceful and less crowded. Parking is ₹15 (bike), entry ₹100/person.
Saish G — Google review
Very beautiful falls. Have to trek for 1.5-2km to reach the falls , but the trekking is very easy as paths are well maintained . To have best experience visit weekdays as it will be less crowded. Kindly do not litter the place
Bhavya H — Google review
This fall is so good.. no trecking need to reach near fall ... In raning day's careful about leaches, 100₹ per person to enter... Nice view... Good place to play in water... Not suitable for swimming...
Lohith P — Google review
We went on November 2nd, and it was a very beautiful, thrilling and relaxing experience. To reach the waterfall u have to trek a little, just 1 to 1.5 km one way. Trek is easy too. There weren't any leeches during our trek. But if u go during proper rainy season, then u can expect a "leech rainfall." Still a beautiful place regardless. And before u begin the trek u have to get tickets. It is not expensive.
Priyadarshini N — Google review
I recently visited Koodlu-Teertha Falls near Agumbe, and it was an absolutely amazing experience! The falls are at their best during September and October, thanks to the rains. There's a short, roughly 2-kilometer trek to reach the falls, and the entry fee is about 100 rupees per person. We also paid a 50-rupee parking fee. One thing to keep in mind is that there are quite a few leeches around, so it’s good to carry some antiseptics and be prepared. The waterfalls themselves are breathtaking, with the mist and the wind creating a magical atmosphere. I highly recommend visiting Kudlu Teertha Falls for anyone who loves nature and adventure!
Sandeep A — Google review
Kudlu Theertha Falls offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers. The approach from the main road is along a rough mud track — dusty in summer and challenging during rains. The trek from the entry point to the waterfall takes some effort, and leeches are common during monsoon and winter months. However, the destination makes every step worth it. The sight of the long waterfall cascading from the rocky cliffs into a serene pool below feels heavenly. Visitors can take a dip or swim in the crystal-clear water. Monkeys are often seen near the top, so it’s wise to stay alert for any falling stones. While earlier there were no guards, some staff are now present to ensure safety. Overall, it’s a must-visit spot for those who enjoy adventure, tranquility, and the raw beauty of the Western Ghats.
Ajay — Google review
Kudlutheertha truly feels like heaven on earth! 🌿 The stretch towards the destination is a bit off-road, and once you reach there, be ready for a short uphill trek to the falls. The trail is filled with leeches, so be prepared😭 but trust me, every bit of the struggle is worth it! The moment you reach the falls, the view is absolutely soothing and magical. I was completely mesmerized when a rainbow appeared across the mist ❤️ such a breathtaking sight! 🌈✨ Do visit this hidden gem, but make sure to reach early as the place closes by 3 PM.
Reshma R — Google review
A very wonderful place, entry fees per person is 100 and parking would be around 50. And try not to carry any plastic or less plastic. There are leaches so carry Dettol or salt and rocks are slippery. There is no changing room near falls u can, so change in the entry point. And water is not too deep it's around 5-6 feet, so those who don't know to swim also can enjoy.

It's a nice place to visit at night as u can see the lightening chariot and the pond would be fully decorated with beautiful lights. But the dharsan pathway is too smelly n the restrooms were not cleaned properly. The food providing hall is also dirtyy.

The Bhojana Shale at the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple is a revered spot where thousands of devotees are served simple yet delicious vegetarian meals daily. The food, prepared without onions or garlic, includes traditional South Indian dishes like rice, sambar, and vegetables. Eating here is a communal and spiritual experience, with everyone seated on the floor, reflecting equality and humility. The atmosphere is serene, with chants in the background, and the service is efficient and clean. Overall, it’s a cherished ritual that nourishes both body and soul.

Visited during the lunch A must-visit place for a simple yet divine meal. The bhojanalaya serves delicious prasadam in a traditional setting, and the experience of sitting on the floor and eating on banana leaves makes it even more special. The food is satvik, fresh, and prepared with devotion—you can truly feel the purity in every bite. The service is humble, and the volunteers ensure everyone is served well. If you’re visiting Udupi Shri Krishna Matha, don’t miss this! It’s not just food, but a blessing.

I have had food at many famous temples like Dharmatsala, Tirupathi, Kukke Subramanya, etc. but Udupi Temple have very poor food quality. In the rice serving atleast 15-20 rice bugs was there. We consider this as Prasadam and don’t want to complain. But definitely this quality requires improvement.
Sankar S — Google review
Kind of prasasan in the form of food. The devotees are given food free of charges. The serving starts only after a line of people are seated. The plates come in a trolley,. Infact, everything comes in trolleys pulled by the service persons . The plates are to be picked when they go past you. The serving starts with a sweet. Then the rice is served, followed by dal, and finally chaas. The devotees need to give their plates themselves for washing, before washing their hands

Nestled within a lush wildlife sanctuary, the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (ARRS) spans 4.5 acres and serves as a hub for field research and conservation efforts. This enchanting destination offers visitors an unforgettable experience that keeps them coming back for more. Each trip to ARRS reveals new wonders, especially during the monsoon and winter seasons when nature is at its most vibrant. The knowledgeable staff, led by Field Director Mr.
A perfect place where you can learn about snakes. The place is serene, silent, provides information about snakes. In the morning you can see Draco Lizards flying from one tree to another. Although you need to request them for stay. Rithan, Operations Manager at ARRS, has been nothing but excellent. Everything is planned other than the field work and the food is yum. Visit if you like filed work and snakes.
Anvesh P — Google review
First of all, the location on GMap is slightly wrong and the approach road that GMap shows is totally wrong. We wandered for some half an hour, asked locals and somehow found the "real" route. Here it is 1. Take the mud road that Gmap shows (with signboard of Malnad Homestay at the start). 2. Do not stop at the place Gmap shows. Continue for about 0.8km (from the start of mud road). 3. You will see a signboard saying "No entry". Take right and go another 0.8km. You will reach ARRS. The whole 1.6km road is poor, muddy and bumpy. Last half km goes through dense forest. Most imp note: you won't see any animals/ fauna at ARRS. There are just photos of King cobra, leopard and other species. We did not meet anyone who could explain what they do. This is not to discredit their work. But just to clarify that as a tourist you won't find much useful or interesting. IMO, it's not worth the hassle to reach there. A lot of other reviews seem to be for "Agumbe" village or " Agumbe rainforest" in general and not for "Agumbe Rainforest Research Station" (ARRS, i.e. this particular place).
Ameya S — Google review
First of all the location is incorrect. To reach this place you need to go more inside to the dense forest. Secondly there is nothing in this place as it’s not functional now. Don’t spend your time visiting here. 1.5 kms drive inside that forest was interesting because we went there during heavy rainfall. But the so called small road is muddy on cloggy.
