Very nice beach, great amount of places to eat, book some trip, buy bikini etc. Bear in mind that it’s very touristic
Nina — Google review
Very friendly place. Nice restaurants and good beaches
Dror L — Google review
I felt sorry of the ocean, full of chairs, umbrella, tables on the beach and food stalls, so commercial. and many rubbish, cigarettes 🚬, plastic stuff, and the water has floating oil and ting rubbish that's really disgusting. I understand why the beach provide shower for tourists because the water is polluted. I think this beach is over rated.
Daisy C — Google review
At low tide you can access the coral pools from the beach for snorkeling. Choice of being in a quieter or busier part of the beach. Laid back brazilian crowd so no need to dress up in town or obmn the beach.
Carlo P — Google review
I never felt unsafe here. Hot weather, nice bars, quite modern. Easy to reach from Recife. I also never felt alone because at every millimeter of the beach there is a "businessman" available selling almost everything you need. The area is also a Digital Nomad hot spot.

Farol da Barra Beach is a lively destination popular for swimming and sunbathing. It is home to the St. Anthony Fort and the historic Farol da Barra lighthouse, where Amerigo Vespucci arrived in 1501. The beach offers stunning views of All Saints Bay and the city, with amenities such as eateries, beach umbrellas, and loungers for rent.
My wife added this place to our list when we visited Salvador — and we’re glad she did. The lighthouse and old fortress are full of history, and there’s a great little surprise on the rooftop: a spot where you can enjoy tasty Brazilian food and drinks. If you go at the right time, the sunset view is absolutely unforgettable.
Soufian K — Google review
Must stay in this area very happening and lively neighbourhood. Good food options not much option for vegetarians, feels save due to police nearby. Beach is amazing you can go anytime you want. Rentals bicycle and mini scooters wil be available.
Farhat J — Google review
The place is very beautiful. Once inside, everything is clean, the view is stunning, and you feel safe. However, the place should have security for tourists. The vendors outside, desperate for your money like hungry hyenas, made the experience unpleasant. They tried to paint us with their products and wouldn’t take “no” for an answer. It was truly a horrible experience. Therefore, I give the place a 2 out of 5.
Matt K — Google review
I love this place! It’s stunning, good for a walk and talk. I just take care always because one time someone tried to stolen my neckless and hurted me. Hopefully my friends could stop the guy and the drivers around helped as well.
Carolinebritor — Google review
Well, it’s a simple lighthouse but when the sun is setting, you are gonna enjoy the view and obviously by walking on the same boulevard you get plenty of things to eat and it’s nice
Atefeh H — Google review
Beautiful place! Historical and very famous in carnival days!
Gabriel D — Google review
I recommend taking Acarajé and seeing the sunset at Farol da Barra.
Patrick D — Google review
The Barra's Lighthouse is a postcard of Salvador City, at beach with the same name , is the oldest in Brazil but is in a great conservation status. The visit worth cause the historical value, the beautiful neighborhood and the stunning views when you climb until the top! At the building of the old fort, we visited the museum that explain the History of the Lighthouse since the 16th Century and an interesting pictures exposition.

Terminal Bom Despacho is a bustling transportation hub where you can catch a ferry to Itaparica. The terminal may get crowded at times, but it's an affordable option for travel, with tickets priced at 7 Real per person.
One person 7 Real. Might be crowded. Nice trip to itaparica.
Kağan A — Google review
Horrible delays. I arrived at the ferry boat 2 hours ago and I still waiting for the ferris leave. How difficult can be to run a half hour boat back and forth.
William N — Google review
(Translated by Google) From an infrastructure standpoint, it is an essential service that is extremely useful and important for the transportation and integration of the capital and the highways that come from the South, Southeast and Central-West of Brazil. Ferry boats deserve better attention from the government, as well as the services provided. The vessels that were once extremely modern, today require minimal repairs and care. It is worth mentioning that other states in Brazil do not have ferries of this quality and construction, so maintenance would be enough to improve service conditions. Pedestrians and all types of vehicles board with practically no restrictions. (Translated by Google) Terrible public transport service, including the high price charged; it's not worth the money you pay! It takes a long time to board, it's very disorganized and there's no monitoring of the volume of music that some users play! It's a total disincentive to enjoy the beauty of the island and the municipalities of Costa do Dendê, which should have a tourist incentive - something that doesn't exist! 😡
Rute V — Google review
(Translated by Google) Terminal without good signage. When you get to the entrance, you can hardly tell it's a terminal, because what you see above it is a huge advertisement that looks more like the entrance to a company than the entrance to the terminal. The service is disorganized, and it wasn't busy, I can only imagine what it would be like on weekends and holidays. The bathroom is filthy, dirtier than an old gas station on the side of the road. It's absolutely absurd for the price they charge! How can the government of Bahia not monitor the service provided by this concession? The concessionaire Internacional Travessias is certainly not following the rules of the contract. It's a clear case that privatization will not improve the service if there is no monitoring and follow-up of the contract by the concessionaire!!!

(Translated by Google) My experience on October 13, 2020 was the worst possible. Outside the terminal there were about 500 people in a line that didn't move, waiting for the boats at their scheduled times, which while I was there were not met at all. Hundreds of families under the scorching sun with no set time to board. I am horrified. It was the first and last time. Estou horrorizada. Foi primeira e ultima vez.

Elevador Lacerda

Mentioned on

The Elevador Lacerda is a historic art deco elevator that provides scenic views while connecting the upper and lower parts of Salvador. It offers a convenient and affordable way to explore the old city center, with taxis, buses, and foot travel also being viable options. This iconic elevator was erected in the mid to late 1800s and showcases impressive Art Deco design from additional work done in the early 20th century.
It's a small pastry and ice cream shop situated right next to the elevator. I have to admit that the ice creams are delicious, generously served, and really cheap. You may choose to get them in a cone or a cup. The 'Pave' flavor is amazing! Pave is a Brazilian cake-like dessert.
Arkadiusz J — Google review
The City around the elevator is dangerous. The elevator looks good, but it's not spectacular to use.
Matheus Z — Google review
A tourist attraction with a lot of history. ⭐ The elevator is very fast and takes you to the upper city in a few seconds ⭐ We did not pay an entrance fee and did not have to wait in a queue ⭐ Nothing else to say or to do. Very straightforward. It is an elevator after all. But fun nonetheless! Also, prices for souvenirs in the upper city are cheaper than at Mercado Modelo!
B. N — Google review
Lacerda Elevator was the first urban elevator in the world when it opened on December 8, 1873 the 63 meters tall elevator takes you from lower town to upper town. A major tourist attractions and photo spot of Salvador. Great views of the bay and the governors palace.
Yrjö O — Google review
Beware of people who try to sell souvenirs and paint your body. They pretend it’s a freebie but will try to get as much as they can from you. Another advice, do not wear gold necklaces and such. Large groups or maybe with a guide is safer.
Rodrigo A — Google review
The history behind the construction is interesting, however it’s not a great place to go. Going up and down costs R$0,15 per visitor and the elevator is too crowded, hot as hell and smells sweat. Great view up there though.
Enzo — Google review
It's very cheap at only R$0.15, and conveniently located. It facilitates a 10 minute walk from the ferry to Pelourinho or from Pelourinho to the market. There may be a bit of a line depending on the time of day that you visit. Can also get a bit hot during the day. There are stunning views from the top, a very popular photo op spot, as well as a famous ice cream shop help you beat the heat. Can't miss it on a visit to Salvador and I definitely recommend taking it at least once.
Andre W — Google review
Better one to dine in. Beautiful ambient. Sitting area overlooking sun set and Mercado Modelo. It is right at exit of the upper level of Elevator. Best time to have ice cream is during sun set

Mercado Modelo is a popular market in Salvador, featuring over 250 shops offering a variety of arts, crafts, and souvenirs. The large yellow building housing the market is an example of neoclassical architecture and inside, elegant stone arches crown the alleys and streets. Visitors can also enjoy a view of the Bay of All Saints from a huge curved balcony covered in umbrellas.
Great tourist spot. Lots of little shops for souvenirs and food. There is a bigger restaurant overlooking the ocean. In the area are a few museums to visit. The large elevator is steps away. We came back here several times because there are so many things to do. We felt safe and they kept the area clean.
Roy M — Google review
Traditional port in Salvador. Lots of little shops to buy useless memorabilia for your house, family and friends. Beautiful view of the port and sunset from the second floor restaurant/bar - makes it worth the trip.
Henry G — Google review
Beautiful building and market by the marina. It’s worth a visit to browse through some souvenirs, however, little to no local and artisanal handicrafts. Also the vendors are quite pushy which ruined the shopping experience a little. In my opinion, there are other local vendors and artisanal shops around the city that offer better and unique handicrafts.
Randall R — Google review
Surprise experience that turned out to be the highlight of my day in the area. Amazing visual experience. Totally worth the short wait on the day I visited.
Rod N — Google review
Very touristy and a lot of stalls which sell exactly the same items. Nothing wow! Very nice terrace.
Tamara C — Google review
This is indeed one of the greatest and most know trademarks for anyone visiting Salvador for the first time. Currently, the market is passing by a renovation so its split in two different sections. But both have basically the same kind of products available. At first, I've thought this would be similar to São Paulo's Municipal Market; however, here you will find just two or three options of restaurants with most of the other places taken by souvenirs stores. It can be a great place if you're looking for this type of store but be attentive of the prices - you can similar items for huge price variance. Tip: things here are cheaper than most of the stores of Pelourinho. Extra tip: though the market itself may not be what you're expecting take the opportunity to visit the marine located a few steps of it. The view is stunning and a good place for nice photos.
Felipe L — Google review
Very busy market close to the cruise ship pier. Just a 5 minute walk. Definitely must see the underground museum for a small fee.
Jan T — Google review
Popular market featuring 250+ shops selling a variety of arts, crafts & souvenirs, plus restaurants. Mercado Modelo has bars, cafeterias and canteens. With 8,410 square meters and two floors, with gifts and souvenirs from Bahia The Mercado Modelo arose out of the need for a supply center in the Lower City of Salvador. Between the old Customs House building and Largo da Conceição, it was a commercial center where it was possible to acquire items as varied as fruit and vegetables, cereals, animals, cigars, cachaças, and Candomblé articles. Thus, the market was inaugurated on February 2, 1912[1] in a building next to the old Customs House building, which had been built in 1860 and inaugurated in 1861.[3] The market's supply was served by the ramp that bears its name, former port of the schooners that crossed the Bay of All Saints.

Sights & Landmarks
Churches & Cathedrals
The Basílica do Senhor do Bonfim, an impressive 18th-century church situated on Sacred Hill, is a significant stop on Bahia's religious tourism route. Each year, the renowned Lavagem do Bonfim ceremony unites Catholics and Candomblé practitioners in devotion. The neoclassical interior showcases remarkable works of art such as Francisco Velasco's ceiling panel and Jose Rufino Capinam's paintings at the entrance.
The Basilica do Senhor do Bonfim is a beautiful and culturally significant church worth visiting. However, the experience can be somewhat diminished by persistent sellers and Baianas asking for money if you take their picture. While the architecture and atmosphere are impressive, be prepared for these interruptions during your visit.

If you are looking for a peaceful place to be grateful for your life, that's the place where you can get your blessings.
Angela S — Google review
It is the most famous of the Catholic churches of Salvador, in the State of Bahia, Brazil. It was built in the 18th century. Fitinha do Senhor do Bonfim is a souvenir and popular amulet that can be found being sold by street vendors around the Church. Go there early before midday and do not forget to buy your bracelets
Giovanni N — Google review
Visited the Basilica this morning. There were not many people and parking was not that difficult. By about 1030 Hrs, the place was filling as the mass had started at 1030 Hrs. There was no ticket to purchase but you could donate any amount you want to.
John C — Google review
A must see during your visit to Salvador. A beautiful cathedral that captures the heart and soul of one of the oldest cities established in the new world. It’s local custom to tie ribbons at the gate in front of the church and say a prayer to the Holy Savior of the Bay of all Saints. Inside the cathedral and deep rooted in the Afro-Brazillian Candomblé traditions and the Catholic Ex-Voto, the afflicted offer wax casts in body parts to Saints as thanks or hope of healing them.
Giacomo L — Google review
The church is beautiful and full with the visitors but should be careful about the guy at the parking lot along the street they are asking for 20 reais for every car.
Patrick D — Google review
Beautiful church carrying a lot of history. There was service when we arrived and it was crowded but we found seats and could enjoy the amazing interior of the church whilst praying. Be aware about parking and souvenir prices, street vendors try to make money on unadvised tourists.
Cinthia A — Google review
Good vibe to get your blessings. Given the importance in Brazil you would expect a grand church. It is, however relatively small and simple, but never the less impressive for its significance for the faithful in Brazil. Great photo opportunities with the colourful Senhor do Bonfim ribbons tied to the church gate.

Of you are not from Brasil this is the place to be. It's a safe area of the city. I have been living in brasil for seven years. This is the safest area I've seen traveling in the county. I will continue to bring my family here because of the beach, food, and safety. Good. job to the governor here in Salvador for at least keeping one section for families here safe.

Definitely worth the 45min drive, this beach is amazing. Food and drinks available directly at the beach, as well as restaurants with super clean toilets. Plenty of Uber cars to go back to Salvador.
Enrico S — Google review
There is an amazing place, to enjoy the sun of Bahia, food on the beach, very tasty traditional and organic food, natural juices fruits squized a front of you, no additives no E chemicals. Just to be careful that some stones in the water, just avoid them.
Daniela G — Google review
Best beach in Salvador in my opinion! Variety of stalls, trendy bars, clean, hot water, great waterfront ... A great option for all audiences. I paid 10 reais on an umbrella, and drank beer worth 8 on average, water costs around 4 reais, cheap snacks. Worth the trip. Beautiful beach, twenty-six miles from the center of Salvador, with an extensive strip of sand, therefore, in several points, quite deserted, even in high season. Located in a quiet neighborhood next to Stella Maris and Itapuã, but with plenty of services such as restaurants, markets, cafeterias and a shop that serves very well for everyday needs. Great place to relax with the family.

(Translated by Google) The place is very beautiful and brings together the beauty of nature with the meeting of the river and the sea. The beach forms natural pools at low tide. What leaves something to be desired is the price. In addition to the high price, they charge an artistic cover charge without prior notice and the caipirinha we ordered had more ice than anything else. The price charged at the entrance includes lunch served at a buffet, which in my opinion was good.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful beach! Throughout the day, pools with warm water form. It meets the river, and it's not recommended to enter the river except in an area designated by security. Good facilities, with lounge chairs and live music. Pay R$120.00 for a day use, including lunch, which is a great value and offers a variety of quality food. We ordered juice and fries, and they charged a cover charge when we paid, which wasn't mentioned when we booked with the guide, and there's no notice about this charge. Otherwise, everything went well. There's a viewpoint and several wildlife such as monkeys, lizards, and herons. It's worth visiting on one day of your trip. Praia do Francês is a well-known beach located in the city of Marechal Deodoro, about 20 km from Maceio. It's known for its reef pools that are perfect for swimming and offers various water sports activities. The area also has food and souvenir vendors to cater to visitors. The beach is praised for its cleanliness and relatively less crowded compared to other beaches in the region. Visitors recommend specific tents on the beach for an enjoyable stay and highlight the beautiful sunset views.
Definitely worth a visit! Wonderful beach for long walks (over 5km if you want!). The ocean is warm and the reef provides a safe area for swimming and snorkeling. The open ocean is great for surfing, but some areas have strong currents so be careful if you are outside the reef areas. There is a nice walkway just above the beach as well.

It's one of the best beaches i saw and the area around it has so much pusadas, restaurants, super markets cafes you not need to go to another place
Mohamed H — Google review
Wish the businesses would clean the beach area. There were dead fish along the water line. Bottle caps buried in the sand. Beach area lost 2 stars due to cleanliness and aggressive vendors. The water is nice. There is a wave breaker wall. Parts of the beach are crowded with businesses and people. I selected the area near the lifeguard tower as it was less crowded. 50R$ for table and umbrella if you don't order food.

Praia de Pajuçara is a bustling beach with tranquil waters and opportunities to take boat trips to famous pools just off the coast. The beach features soft white sand and calm, light blue waters with gentle waves, making it perfect for families looking to relax. Visitors can rent beach chairs for a reasonable price and enjoy a variety of snacks, drinks, and meals available for purchase.
Excellent choice for friends and family a bit touristy and a lot of locals trying to sell you something, constantly, which is kind of annoying , but other than that , warm and green water
Wellington M — Google review
Dirty beach, old infrastructure and weird local people and beggars. I do not recommend for a family. The streets around are also dirty, no marked crossings in the city and the car and motorcar trafic is high. It is a pitty, because it has a great potential. The local authority just need to move out all the trash and regulate the annoying local vendors.
Ondrej — Google review
Awesome beach, really worth visiting. Between November and March, if it's not crowded you just walk along the shore and you will be offered seats ("cadeiras") under a sunshade or sunbrella for R$30. It might get really crowded on Sundays.

Plain awful. The water is disgusting and it is unclear as to whether the water is muddy or if it is sewage. We walked the entire length of the beach and didn’t find it suitable to get in at any point. The sand itself is fine. I cannot understand how this beach gets such high ratings. Avoid this beach if planning on getting in the water.

Disheartening how absolutely disgusting this beach is. Unless you are into loud sound bars from every other group, into piles of trash mixed with algae, and into muddy ocean floor, this place is not for you. The 2 stars go to how this beach looks from far away: pretty ocean reefs and blue sea water. Unfortunately up close, it is a disappointment. Avoid!

Nice place for shopping and eating, the beach is beautiful but bathing is more complicated due to the dumping of the open air sewer into the ocean... Go to Marechal Deodoro instead.

(Translated by Google) I had seen a photo of some people who came to this beach before it rained, and the water was darker than I had seen it, and in some it was clearer. It is a sea that starts to get rougher after 5 o'clock, but there is still a part in front where the fishermen are in water up to their waists (for this you need to know the tide and the level). (Translated by Google) Sonho Verde beach is in Paripueira. We got there using the Paradise Bar and Restaurant support point. We went early in the morning to take advantage of the low tide and the immense rock formations in the area, where you can walk a long way into the sea, see several species of marine life, take some good photos and enjoy the little beach that forms there. It was excellent. It didn't even seem like we were 200 meters from the beach. The strip of sand is not that big, so when the tide comes in it's hard to walk. So it's important to always check the tide table to avoid surprises. It was a great day of photos and memories of this wonderful beach in Alagoas. For those who are in doubt, we recommend setting aside at least one day and enjoying everything this place has to offer. Tips: check the tide table, and if you're going to walk on the rock formations, don't go barefoot. In addition to the sea urchins, the rocks can cause cuts and falls.

Many turtles too, a captivating scene. Now the restaurants... many leave a lot to be desired! The vast majority are either destroyed or dirty, with terrible service, very slow staff, bad and expensive food. And as a bonus if you don't pay attention to the bill... You pay a lot more. Always check the entire bill!!! Tip: Bring your own snacks, your own cooler and enjoy paradise. May the City Hall and the Health Department check these restaurants. Huge disappointment. First of all, if you’re going to invest millions into developing a beach club priced so high that locals can’t afford it, at least invest in better roads to access it. We showed up and were told it was closed. This made no sense as it was shown as open everywhere online. Not worth it at all!

(Translated by Google) An intimate place to stay. Exclusive environment, since the surrounding inns are not accessible to everyone and neither are the remains to eat. The place itself is very good, the room has everything you need to be comfortable: good mattress, good shower, large bathroom, good air conditioning. Breakfast is very good and complete. However, there are no markets in the surrounding area where you can buy food or even a bottle of water, so you must pay what the inn requests. This particular accommodation, because it is small and not on the beach, tries to provide you with lounge chairs and an umbrella. Anyway, at lunch time, you end up looking for a hostel, because the place does not provide food. And since in those places they give you the umbrella and the lounge chair with the drink you end up staying there, hahaha... at least that's how it happened to us... The beach is nice, you can walk to the natural pools, I recommend wearing water shoes now there are hidden urchins and sharp corals under the water. The beach may not appeal to everyone, since the dynamics are determined by the rise and fall of the tide... for many hours the water reaches your knees no matter how much you walk (a kilometer leisurely). Happy stay! Feliz estancia!

The place is an absolute money grab, the companies simply want to sell you snorkling, photos, drinks, everything you can imagine once you are in the water with them... besides that there service is just unfriendly. Do not recommend it as it is a waste of money that is causing more harm than good to the environment. It might have been good in the past but now is simply a circus of boats and prople selling you stuff in the water. '
Pedro B — Google review
Without a doubt a must visit situation. The natural pools are amazing. Take care that you ask for the correct times. You need to make sure you get a catamaran. The service and prices are the beach are okay, nothing to crazy and as expected.

I have done 2 tours and both of them were so full of people. Maragogi is overrated 100%. City does not infrastructure needed / swming pool - the visibility is low in some points and definatly they is not fish diversity. I saw people diving with cilindro in less than 1 meter depth. Until now was the worse place that I have been. Too Many people they try to seel you everything even to take pictures. Sao Miguel dos milagres is smaller but the tours over there to swimming pool were nicer .

Ok, nothing special. Brown coral, perhaps three or four species of fish. Nice for an hour or so. Glad it wasn't far and was relatively cheap.

Antunes Beach is a picturesque and relaxed destination in Maragogi, Alagoas. It is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, natural pools, and coral reefs, making it a popular spot for snorkeling and diving. The beach offers a calm atmosphere, ideal for families and those seeking relaxation. Visitors can enjoy the convenience of beachside stalls offering food and drinks, as well as the option to rent umbrellas and chairs.
Excellent beach. Clear and calm waters. You can walk to the corals when the tide is low (5km aprox) There are small bars that rent a table with beach umbrella and chairs as long as you need only by consuming a 'petisco' (which is a kind of fast food). There are also 'beach vendors' that provides ice creams, 'cocadas' (kind of sweet cookie made from coconut and condensed milk, excellent), coconut water... etc. You'll also find kids selling their art, or at least expecting you to see how they create their art, they are awesome.
Florencia G — Google review
The beach itself is very beautiful, but too crowded for my likings. Hard to get there and find a place to relax without receiving offers of tours, jet ski, food, etc.

Great atmosphere, a bit crowded. No waves, just a huge pool of warm and transparent water.

(Translated by Google) The place is interesting to visit, but it has no attractions. Tamandaré and Carneiros are beaches that remind us of sugar mill owners. There are several condominiums and houses in front of the beach, but for mere mortals, there are only narrow streets and alleys, one far from the other, to access the beach. If you want, that's all you have for today. Ok, I wrote in another review about Carneiros Beach so I'm not gonna repeat myself...Anyway, it's a famous place to visit here, kinda unique and also kinda crowded, all the tours go there in same time and there is a line if you wanna take picture in front of the church...But still I think it's a place you should visit since you are in that area, it would be a shame not to...with or without crowds you gonna have nice time, for sure 😊
Marko I — Google review
This is a nice place, it's located in a resort area. However it is strongly recommended that you speak the language. We came here in July there's a lot of seaweed on the shore and water clarity is poor...the weather is really nice about mid seventies and if the sun is out you will get burned. Overall a good visit but there are better areas if you like people watching and clear water.
Pinata J — Google review
Lovely church by the sea!! Make sure to check the ocean tides before you go. It can get closer to the church very quickly
Lucas — Google review
we didn't stay on that beach, so we drove and parked next to" Flat Meridional Carneiros",( on the side of the road) there's a narrow public beach access full of rocks(bring sandals)about 10 min walk to the beach then 5 more until the Chapel. get there early and beat the crowds

We Cosby go inside as there was a wedding going on but we didn't even need to it's super cute on the outside and the sea just in front of it makes it perfect

Piscinas Naturais de Porto de Galinhas is a sought-after destination in the northeast, known for its pristine and transparent natural pools that captivate visitors of all ages. For me, this place is full of scammers because I'm probably disappointed with how Maragozi was, everyone was coming back. It's probably everywhere. They try to rip you off, starting from the parking lot. Someone calls you "park" and goes there. Turn this way, the wrong way. Take a boat at the end. Take a raft or a kayak. Swim 6 meters and tell them to dive to see the fish. Then they take you back. For me, this isn't an attraction that can be considered paid. You could just as easily grab a mask and go somewhere quiet. It's completely overrated and just a scam. I think there are more people, sunscreen, and everything else in the water than fish. So, it's just a guy with trained fish feeding them and saying he can take a photo, for an additional fee, of course. So, absolutely not. I don't recommend such places. I've been here at least in the main port and in Maragozi.
