Museu Histórico Lauro da Escóssia

Specialty Museums
The local history museum, Museu Histórico Lauro da Escóssia, has greatly enhanced the appearance of its surroundings. The vibrant purple and lilac paint adds a touch of uniqueness, reminiscent of he-man's nightwear. It is unfortunate that the city does not fully appreciate this gem, as the museum itself is simply extraordinary. Although currently closed on our visit date, it holds great promise and exudes a sense of excellence.
(Translated by Google) The Lauro da Escóssia Museum was closed for a long time, but it has finally reopened. The best part is that the collection is available on both the ground floor and the first floor. The history of Mossoró, the state and Latin America is related to the museum space. The first vote of a woman in Latin America, news in the American newspapers in 1927. The Quebra Quilos revolt together with the Mutim das Mulheres (Women's Riot). The cangaço and the main event. The primacy of Mossoró in ending slavery before the Léia Áurea. I would also like to add a space with a picture gallery and other exhibitions. It is well worth a visit! The visit is quite enriching, especially since it includes a free guide, which makes the experience even more interesting... The space also has a picture gallery and various exhibitions. It's a visit that's truly worth it! On the other hand, the museum still needs more publicity. I'm from Mossoró, and even though I've lived here for over four years, I didn't know about this museum. (Translated by Google) Considered one of the richest and most preserved in the country, the Lajedo de Soledade is located in Apodi, Rio Grande do Norte. We learned the importance of archaeology and paleontology. The records show cave paintings, where we can observe the presence of humans thousands of years ago. We saw the cultural and spiritual aspects that inhabited the region. On the other hand, we also saw marine fossils, where the lajedo is formed by limestone rocks. This shows that 90 million years ago, Rio Grande do Norte, and especially this region, was covered by the sea, where we found seaweed and marine fossils. No admittion fee. There were definitely real dinosaur tracks in a couple different layers of what was obviously mud but became stone. The mud was pushed up around the tracks in silted mud that later dry cracked and became petrified. Not just a big hammer and chisel job I was expecting to find when I went there. It's worth taking a look if you're in the area. Also there were some friendly monkeys in the wild that wanted to be fed. (Not allowed, but we did anyway) We had a picnic in one of the little mini pavilions there.

Casarão do Padre Cícero

Museum
Specialty Museums
Nestled within the Horto complex, the Casarão do Padre Cícero is a captivating historical mansion that offers visitors a glimpse into the life of one of Brazil's most revered figures. This well-preserved site serves as a living museum, showcasing artifacts that belonged to Padre Cícero and reflecting both his personal history and that of Juazeiro do Norte.
(Translated by Google) First of all, if you need a guided tour of this or any other museum in the city, contact @juazeiroguia. Padre Cícero's mansion is a museum that was once one of the priest's residences. The place is well organized and clean. At the entrance, you can count on an automatic alcohol gel dispenser that you just need to put your hand under and it releases the alcohol without having to press. This house is where the living museum is located, with sculptures made to the size of characters from the history of Juazeiro. There are four scenes in total (one in the dining room, in the bedroom with the priest in the hammock, in the room of the heart of Jesus, in the office and the last one in the chapel). There is also a huge amount of "ex-votos", which are objects left by pilgrims for a grace received. In the museum, you can drink water from clay pots and buy souvenirs. It is a great place for those who like popular culture and history. The museum does not have guides. So if you need a guide to tell you the whole story of the city and Father Cicero, you can contact @juazeiroguia. (Leave a like so I know if I helped you in any way 😅) (Original) Primeiramente se você precisa de uma visita guiada nesse ou em qualquer museu da cidade, entre em contato com a @juazeiroguia.

There is also a living museum that you can visit with pieces that belonged to the priest and reflect a little of his history and that of Juazeiro do Norte itself. The atmosphere of faith and devotion in a space that brings back memories of the reality of the first half of the 21st century in the region is striking. (Translated by Google) It's not easy to get to, but it's worth it. It's a place steeped in history. Follow the signs, not the GPS, to get there correctly. Unless it's raining, any car can get there. Access is via a paved road with many potholes (January 2025) and partly a dirt road. Research the Pedra do Reino Massacre to understand the place. Tip: read the book "O romance da Pedra do Reino" by Ariano Suassuna.

(Translated by Google) The Pedra do Reino region is a very mystical place with incredible views. The only problem is access, which can be quite complicated, especially if you're going to risk going there with a small car. If you're not familiar with trails and possible mud, it's best to get a guide or rent a tall car for this. The best time of year to go there is when a type of pilgrimage called the Cavalcade takes place, which takes place at the end of May. It's worth studying about Sebastianism before going to the rock and then visiting the Armorial Castle in the city of São José do Belmonte.

(Translated by Google) A mix of curiosity and mysticism. What an idea to take those stones to such a unique place. I missed the investment of local agents, the lack of signs (since there is no guide), the arrival to the place is very difficult, but the magic that this place has makes up for it. I would only go back with a historian. Usina Hidrelétrica de Paulo Afonso is a remarkable feat of Brazilian civil construction with significant historical, economic, political, and social value for the Northeast region and Brazil as a whole. Its creation in 1948 led to the development of the municipality of Paulo Afonso. The hydroelectric plant stands as an iconic symbol of Brazilian hydroelectric energy and national human engineering. The transformation brought about by its construction has had far-reaching benefits for society.

What was once a symbol of potential is now also a benchmark for performance, sustainability, and innovation. Privatization brought visible benefits not only to the plant but to the entire region that depends on its energy. The meeting point is at Castanho Restaurant and Day Use. The place has good food and good service. Everything is top notch. But the canyon tour is sensational. As beautiful as the advertising photos. And I recommend paying an extra R$20, right there in the water, to take the rowboat ride into the rocks (in my opinion, the most beautiful part): it's called Gruta do Talhado. We got there by catamaran on a trip of just over an hour from the Karrancas restaurant, where we had lunch at the end of the trip. The place has a support structure with a fenced area where you can swim, and from where canoes also leave to visit the narrowest parts of the canyon. The only downside is the infrastructure, especially the highways to get there. From Maceió it took us about 4 hours by bus on roads that were mostly very bad... Lunch at the end was very good in a pleasant place. The waterfall is not difficult to access, the route is marked with some signs, very easy to get to and the car goes there, but it can be difficult if it is raining, because it is a dirt road. I really liked it, I highly recommend it. Oh, the water is shallow, great for those who have children or do not know how to swim. There is no cell phone signal and you pay a small fee to enter. There is a restaurant on site, with Wi-Fi, bathroom and a varied menu of snacks, lunches and drinks... even dessert. Delicious! Delicioso!

(Translated by Google) The day we went, it had rained in the morning. Since we rented a four-wheel drive car, we were able to get there. However, I recommend not going during the rain or immediately afterward, as it's impossible to climb the hill for cars without four-wheel drive. The place is beautiful, very clean, and has good facilities for eating on site. We ordered a wonderful chicken stew with rice, beans, salad, and pirão (a type of pirão). Very good home-cooked food! My only complaint is that some people should ban the music, as it takes away from the peace, tranquility, and positive energy we're all looking for.
