Nandur Madhyameshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

Bird watching area
Nature preserve
Nandur Madhyameshwar Bird Sanctuary, located in a wetland area, boasts trails and watchtowers that provide shelter for various bird species such as white storks, flamingos, and ibis. This sanctuary is highly recommended for bird watching enthusiasts, especially during the early morning hours. Visitors can marvel at a diverse range of national and international migratory birds from December to January.
Heaven for birdwatchers. You can see thousands of birds in the winter season. Count of flemingo is in doubt. Because in 2024 they visited 12-13 numbers only. The forest department managed this in a well manner. Per person 50rs ticket, 20 for parking and 50 for binoculars. They provide binoculars is the best thing. There are mainly 3 watch towers. And you can see thousands of birds from these 3 watch towers. They are in line and parallel to the backwater. Winter is the best season to visit because many migratory birds visit this place in winter. Painted stork, frey heron, and plenty of ducks are the main attraction. Must visit this place.
Kedar D — Google review
While there is some merit in this being called the "Bharatpur of Maharashtra", I sincerely feel that is more of an emotional appeal than an actual understanding of the place. The approach road is in terrible condition at patches, so factor that in while getting here for more travel time. The Birdwatching towers overlook the wetlands, but most of them have thorny shrubs growing at the entrance very densely, making it impossible to enter. The larger watchtowers can accommodate multiple Birdwatchers, but are placed a fair distance from the best areas of the wetlands. If you're coming here with anything less than a 500mm lens, you will be relying more on luck than opportunities. I still give it a 5 star rating in the hope that things get better over time, but have given an honest review that should help people coming here set expectations accordingly.

I had visited two years back enjoyed. This time on 6th nov. It was so foggy, so only enjoyed weather. Dec to Feb excellent time. Camping is there Great guys are there

During migratory seasons you can spot varied species of birds. Telescopic binoculars (which are available with local guides at the entrance) are a must to see the birds as you won't be able to appreciate them with naked eye.
Mahendra M — Google review
The Nandur Madhmeshwar Bird Sanctuary, located in Maharashtra’s Nashik District, is often referred to as the “Bharatpur of Maharashtra.” Recognized as the state’s first Ramsar site, this wetland was formed by the construction of the Nandur Madhmeshwar Dam between 1907 and 1913. The dam, built at the confluence of the Godavari and Kadwa rivers, was designed to supply irrigation water to the districts of Nashik, Ahmednagar, and Aurangabad and underwent reconstruction in 2008. Spanning 1,765 hectares, the sanctuary is a rich haven of biodiversity, hosting 536 species of aquatic and terrestrial plants, eight mammal species, 265 species of birds, 24 species of freshwater fish, and 41 butterfly species. The landscape features 23 pristine lakes and numerous smaller ponds, forming the foundation of a thriving wetland ecosystem. Recognized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the sanctuary plays a crucial role in supporting waterfowl and various aquatic species, contributing to global biodiversity conservation. Visitors can experience the natural symphony of bird calls echoing throughout the sanctuary, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and birdwatchers. The sight of large gatherings of night herons is particularly striking. Though the visitor facilities are satisfactory, the sanctuary could benefit from better on-site interpretation. Local products are available at a few shops run by the Eco-Development Committee (EDC). However, the wetland faces challenges from invasive species like water hyacinth and typha weeds. Trained nature guides are available to enhance the visitor experience, and while the area can be accessed via trekking paths, patrolling is conducted through kayaking. Witnessing the sunrise amid the chirping of birds adds to the sanctuary’s allure, offering a truly enchanting experience for wildlife enthusiasts.

One of THE best, most beautiful, unforgettable bird sanctuary. We get totally carried away by materialistic life & go by what is marketed. Hence, later on, our children follow us & all get spoiled. This place is so near to Nashik & so natural you will remember it for life time. The best season is between October to March & timing is morning, 7 pm to 6 pm. You get to see "KUMBH MELA" of birds...Indian & foreign birds also. Some variety of birds come from 4000~5000 km & come in thousands. Very attractive & colorful. The cliamet is GULABI, water body & greenery take you out of the world for sure. Must visit without second thought & don't miss to take guide then only you can enjoy the surprises of birds & nature.
Sunil K — Google review
This place was amazing with rich biodiversity of birds - both migratory and indigenous, that were seen in flocks in their natural habitats. The food provided was also very nutritious and delicious, with also varieties of fresh fruits available to enjoy while there. Must visit this place when in Nashik.

You can stay here with proper booking and charges are ₹1200 including your breakfast, lunch, dinner with guide. If your thinking for one day short trip so definitely it's very good choice. Binoculars and telescopes are available with guide also. So watch it and enjoy it.

Rajwada of Maheshar is built by the Holkars of the Maratha Empires about two centuries ago, which reflects in Maratha Architectural style dominantly , but it also show case Mughal and French trends.13 feet high Rani Ahilyaa Bai statue standing tall right at the main entrance is the special attraction of Rajwada. Rajwada is the place where Ahilyabai use to sit for administration and justice for all. Rajwada complex is best approachable from the north entrance of the fort which is called as Ahilya Dwar, one of the five gateways of the fort. Rajwada area is like a courtyard of large house. Rajwada is a two stored wooden building. The entrance to the building opens into an open corridor, surrounded by a pillared verandah on all sides. As we enter we can see an Idol of Sri Krishna flanked by two cows. The open space in the middle is full of greenery with plants like Garden. The rooms on the upper floor served as the royal residence while lower were meant for guests. At present visitors are not allowed to first floor. We can only visit lower floor where there is a small museum exhibiting objects used by Ahilya bhai. There are boards displayed which tells us briefly about Holkar's, Ahilya Bai and her works towards development of Holkar Kingdom. If you spend some time here you can understand the history of Holkar's and greatness of Rani Ahilyabai. Guests are available to show case entire fort and all nearby temples. Special attraction of the Lower floor is Rani Ahilyabai Gaddi. In one of the open corridor Rani Ahilyabai used to have her Gaddi of the court, which is left to the main entrance when you are entering in to the Rajwada. This is where she sat and listened to her people, and did justice. Now thew is Gaddi surrounded by wooden pillars with a cotton mattresses to showcase those days arrangements as is and Rani Statue is arranged here to get feel of those days. By seeing this arrangement I understood the simplicity of the Rani Ahilyabai. After visiting Rajwada Lower floor come out from the main entrance and turn towards your right while exit and there is one more entrance which takes you towards the place where Unique rituals that was put in place by Rani Ahilyabai herself and that continues till date. In her days, 108 brahmins used to create 125000 miniature Shivalinga's every day from black earth, worship them and then offer them to the Narmada River. Today, 11 Brahmins create about 15000 Shivalinga's every day, worship them, and then offer them to Narmada River. This pooja happens every day between 08:00 to 10:00 in the morning. we went there in the afternoon to we were missed the same. please plan your visit to Rajwada in the morning to witness the same.

Lovely place. Great architecture. Superb carvings. Grand design. Intricate carvings. Hope it was maintained better. There are no washrooms around. People would pay for visits so that money required for maintenance can be raised. Someone built it long ago and it's a shame that we cannot maintain...

Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Maheshwar is a stunning ancient temple built in 1786 by Queen Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar, offering a serene and divine experience. Situated near the Holkar Fort, it overlooks the picturesque Narmada River, providing a breathtaking view. The temple's interior with its dome and pillars is particularly enchanting at night. Plan to attend the aarti at 7:30 pm and take the middle spot behind the nandi. Blissful aarti experience that should not be missed.
Niteash A — Google review
According to local lore, the Shiva Linga at this temple was intended for the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi but somehow found its way to Maheshwar. This gives the temple a special significance for devotees who cannot make it to Varanasi, allowing them to offer their prayers here instead. The architectural similarities to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, with an 18-pillared sabha mandap (hall) and intricate stone detailing, further strengthen this connection. Locals believe that Nandi has a peculiar habit of disappearing at night to graze and then returning to the temple in the morning. To prevent Nandi from wandering off, the priests have built a balustrade around him, adding to the mystical atmosphere of the temple.

I recently completed an online course on Vedic philosophy, specifically Pantanjali's yoga sutras, at SwAr Ashram Yoga & Library. The course was led by the knowledgeable and engaging Niradhara. I highly recommend this course to yoga teachers, yoga students, or anyone interested in exploring life's teachings. SwAr Ashram now offers online courses due to the COVID pandemic, providing a valuable alternative to in-person retreats traditionally offered by Rev. Amma.
We received a very warm welcome from Niradhara and her staff and felt they went to a lot of effort to make our stay worthwhile. The ashram was smaller than we expected, however we were a group of 17! It is in a spectacular location on the Narmada river.

One of the best example of ancient Indian architecture. The temple is located near the fort, it is walkable distance. It is very well maintained. The statue and carving outside temple is really beautiful. If you are near Indore, you can take 2 hours drive and go here. From Omkareshwar, it is 1 hour and 40 minutes drive.

Roopmati Pavilion, a palace with a romantic history, was built by Baz Bahadur for his beloved Roopmati. It offers stunning views of the Narmada River and is part of the ancient rock-cut architecture dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries. Originally an army observation post, it later became Roopmati's residence. The palace is meticulously maintained and surrounded by lush greenery, adding to its charm.
It is an excellent place to sit and view both the history of the pavilion and the plains below. Original a watch tower, it was subsequently repurposed for the queen offering her privacy for her prayers and daily chores. It is very windy on top and one can see how painstakingly efforts were taken to conserve water through rain water harvesting. The climb to top from the security gate may be tiring for old people and wheelchair bound person.

The Roopmati Pavilion in Mandu, Madhya Pradesh, is a captivating blend of history, architecture, and romance. Built in the 16th century by Sultan Baz Bahadur for Rani Roopmati, this pavilion offers stunning panoramic views from its hilltop location, overlooking the Baz Bahadur Palace and the Narmada River. The architecture is a beautiful example of simplicity and elegance, with arched openings and well-designed rooms that provide both aesthetic appeal and natural ventilation. The pavilion is steeped in the legendary love story of Baz Bahadur and Rani Roopmati, making it a poignant and historically rich destination. A visit to the Roopmati Pavilion is a journey through time, offering breathtaking views, architectural marvels, and a deep dive into the cultural heritage of Mandu. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking to experience the beauty of history and romance.

The Roopmati Pavilion is a compact yet beautiful architectural marvel that offers spectacular panoramic views and a wonderful, cold breeze, making the sight of the Nimar Valley the clear highlight. However, while the structure is excellent, the small site can be explored in just 1 to 1.5 hours and the overall visitor experience is let down by poor amenities. Specifically, the lack of clear signs to explain the smaller historical areas, along with a noticeable absence of good drinking water and clean restroom facilities, detracts significantly from the visit. Despite these flaws, the breathtaking vista secures it a respectable 3.5/5 rating.

Nice, small fortress, with a nice early morning view. You can ask for a local guide for the history of the place. Access to the top is blocked, but the view from the accessible areas is also good. It is important to know the story of Baaz Bahadur and Roopmati to appreciate the place.

Beautiful place — we were lucky to experience rain. The views are great, and the history of this place is rich. A must-visit, with a well-maintained monument and garden

We visited Roopmati Mahal in Mandu during the last week of September in 2025. While the fort is old and there is nothing much to see there but the views of Vindhya ranges and nearby areas are mesmerizing. It was green all around with scenic beauty. We really enjoyed the fort. 30-45 minutes are good enough for the fort visit. Need to walk 300-400 mtr on an altitude but worth visiting.

If one has not visited Mandu then, he must make an endeavour to do so. Foolling are photos of Rani Roopmati Mahal, from where she used to have darshan of Ma Narmada River. One can see how rain water harvesting & storing was done during that time & how a fort was built & defences around

Hoshang Shah’s Tomb is a significant part of the 6th-century fort complex in Mandu. The tomb features a marble dome, ornamental tiles, and arches.
Like Golgumbaz in Bijapur this tomb is for Hoshang Shah who was burried here with his wife. The place is well maintained. The attraction is the perfetly aligned three rows of pillars in the hall to the right side of the tomb. The geometrical symmetry is something spectacular. worth visiting once.

Beutifully carved and well maintained. It's just behind jami masjid and only small steps are provided through jami masjid for this place. So I have to look carefully otherwise I may miss this place. It resembles tajmahal. Architecture is like mixed hindu and Persian type. There are many small tombs inside.
Jayeshbhoomi V — Google review
Hoshang Shah’s Tomb is mainly known as the inspiration for the Taj Mahal, but beyond that there isn’t much to see. We ended up spending more time at the registration counter filling out the form and making the payment than inside the monument itself, where we were the only visitors.
Krunal M — Google review
The tomb of Hoshang Shah in Mandu, built in the 15th century, is widely regarded as the earliest marble mausoleum in India. A notable landmark of Afghan architectural style, it later influenced the design of the Taj Mahal, with Emperor Shah Jahan reportedly sending his architects to examine its structure. The monument stands out for its gleaming white marble, impressive domes, and detailed ornamental work, showcasing a harmonious blend of Afghan and local Hindu architectural traditions.
Aditya G — Google review
A tomb which actually doesn't have any tomb. First structure made in marble, in India
Sandeep S — Google review
Hoshang Shah's tomb is situated in the middle of the courtyard of the majestic mausoleum, surrounded by square-shaped walls. One can enter the mausoleum from the entrance gate, (which is built on a square plan with a marble dome) in the middle of the northern wall. The tomb of Hoshang shah is a grand construction, having a square plan and a dome. It is built on a basement of remarkable width and height. The entire building including the dome is covered in marble, providing majestic atmosphere. It is interesting to note that the main entrance and stairs are situated in the south side, the other side of the entrance to the courtyard. In the four corners of the domed roof, there are constructions with battlements and small domes. They are above the basements, which are built along with a dome. There are plant decorations extending from the edge of the roof and the eaves. They are coloured in red and black, accenting the marble building. Hindu patterns can be observed in the decorations. Considering these and other patterns inside the tomb chamber, we can assume there was involvement of Hindu workmen from the neighbouring towns.

Nestled in the enchanting landscape of Mandu, Jal Mahal, also known as "The Water Palace," is a stunning testament to Mughal architecture. Constructed by Bahadur Shah Gujarati in 1534 A.D., this unique monument boasts intricate stone carvings and elegant arches that reflect the artistry of its time. The palace is beautifully situated between Kapoor and Munj Sagar Talab, resembling a majestic ship anchored amidst serene waters.
It's construction was done by Bahadur shah is also confirmed by the stone inscription found here on which his name can be clearly seen. Jal Mahal also known as "The Water Palace" was built by Bahadurshah Gujarati in 1534 A.D. Sultan Jahangir stayed here for 6 months during his visit to Mandu. It is situated around Munj Talao and to the south of Shahi Mahal. It encompasses a fountain, elegant arches and marvelous cuttings done on stones which is a good evidence of high end art. It is built using Roman, Afghani and Mughal arts.

It is among the most unique monuments of India. When you look at the palace, it looks like a beautifully painted picture on Mandav’s canvas. A palace like this cannot be seen anywhere else. Situated between Kapoor and Munj Sagar Talab,it seems like a grand ship anchored in deep seas. On a rainy day, the beauty and artistry here is its prime. This palace is believed to have been built under Ghiyasuddin Khilji in the 15th century for his 15,000 queens. The architecture is apparently inspired by Hindu style.

Jal mahal is the last monument in the Jahaj Mahal complex. You will need to walk all the way to the end to reach there. It is almost surrounded by the water body, may be that is why its named Jal Mahal. Thought it is not as impressive as the towering Jahaj Mahal, but its a fine piece of architecture.
Divyesh W — Google review
Situated in Mandu, MP, this ruins of a historical building can be found in the same complex as Jahaz mahal.

Jal mahal or the water villa/ palace is a short walk from the Jahaz Mahal. One could take the flight of stairs down from Jahaz and walk your way through to Jal mahal. The walkway is apparently run down and needs maintenance. We could see broken stairs, uneven surface and lack of signages to reach the mahal. As we were already exhausted, we did not venture into Jal mahal, but had a glimpse from atop the Jahaz mahal and it was fabulous. Your ticket to Jahaz mahal includes a visit to Jal mahal as well and the place is closed on Mondays.

Jahaz Mahal, also known as the Ship Palace, is a fascinating architectural wonder located in Mandu, India. Constructed during the 15th century under the rule of Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din Khilji, this palace is renowned for its unique design that gives it the appearance of a floating ship between two artificial lakes. The name "Jahaz Mahal" reflects this distinctive feature.
Built in the 15th century by Sultan Ghiyasuddin Khilji, this palace once housed thousands of royal women, and its layout reflects both privacy and elegance. The fusion of Afghan, Mughal, Hindu, and Mesopotamian styles is breathtaking—from domed chhatris and carved jalis to the intricate water systems that still whisper tales of sustainability and climate-conscious design. ✨ Highlights: - The lotus-shaped pools and stepwell-inspired bathing areas are stunning. - The sound and light show brings history alive—don’t miss it. - Best visited during the Mandu Festival or winter months (Oct–Mar) for a magical experience.

Mandav (Mandu), near Indore Mandav is a beautiful historical village near Indore, filled with monuments from the Raja-Maharaja and Mughal eras. The entire village is dotted with ancient structures, each carrying its own story and charm — you’ll find something interesting almost everywhere you walk. The highlight of Mandav is definitely the Jahaz Mahal, a magnificent palace surrounded by water, giving it the look of a floating ship. Inside, there’s a small museum displaying ancient stone idols of Hindu gods, Mughal artifacts, and even Chinese (Chini) ceramics — all beautifully preserved. The Jahaz Mahal area is especially stunning during the monsoon or winter seasons, when everything is lush green and the water bodies are full. The surroundings — dense forests, hills, and open landscapes — make it a place that’s hard to describe in words. Everyone experiences its beauty differently. There are also many other attractions like the Jama Masjid, tombs from the Mughal period, and several smaller historical spots scattered across the village. If you’re planning a visit, start early around 8–9 AM so you can comfortably explore the entire area by evening. It’s a perfect trip for history lovers, nature enthusiasts, and anyone who enjoys peaceful, scenic places. Do not forget to visit Sunset Point — it’s one of the most beautiful sights near Indore. surrounded by greenery, mountains, and forest. Watching the sun go down from there feels truly magical. However, remember to prioritize safety — keep a safe distance from the edges and avoid going into unsafe or restricted forest areas. The terrain can be tricky, so enjoy the view responsibly and make the most of the moment.

Nothing less than fascinating. The palace is in great condition, one can get transported back in time. Hindola Mahal, also known as the Swing Palace, is an ancient palace located within the Mandu Fort in Madhya Pradesh. It is part of a royal palace complex that includes Jahaz Mahal, Taveli Mahal, and Nahar Jharokha. The construction of Hindola Mahal is believed to have taken place during the reigns of Hoshang Shah or Ghiyas-ud-din.
If you’re visiting Mandu, Hindola Mahal is a must-see! This historical marvel left me in awe with its stunning architecture and rich history. Raj R — Google review
The Hindola Mahal, or ‘Swinging Palace,’ is a striking architectural jewel within Mandu’s Royal Enclave, dating to the 15th-century Malwa Sultanate. Constructed perhaps under Hoshang Shah, it served as the kingdom's primary royal audience hall, or durbar. Its defining feature is the immense, theatrical incline of its buttress walls . Sloping at a dramatic 77-degree angle, these supports create the palace’s characteristic optical illusion of being in perpetual, gentle motion—a masterful feat of engineering. The Mahal exemplifies a bold, minimalist Indo-Islamic style, where stark visual impact outweighs excessive ornamentation. The simple T-shaped plan and towering ogee arches demonstrate an elegant fusion of Afghan structural strength and indigenous functional clarity. As the epicenter of power, the colossal hall witnessed countless royal ceremonies and major state assemblies. Its imposing structure clearly underscored the authority and prosperity of the Malwa rulers, who called their capital 'The City of Joy' (Shadibad). Today, this engineering marvel endures as a vital cultural artifact, narrating a story of medieval ingenuity and regional heritage. Its unique design and dramatic presence continue to inspire awe, securing its place as an indispensable Indian landmark.

Adjoining the famous Jahaj Mahal, Hindola Mahal forms Parrt of the heritage royal buildings complex in Mandu. This historical building has slanting outer walls at an angle of 77° and thus it presumably gives the look of a swing. Frankly I could not visualize it as a swing. That apart, the building looks beautiful. There are other buildings. The surrounding are very well maintained. Adjascent to Hindola Mahal, there are other smaller monuments worth seeing.
Arun G — Google review
Hindola Mahal – meaning Swing palace is so named due to its sloping side walls. The Hindola Mahal might have been constructed during the reign of Hushang Shah about 1425 C.E. but may date to the end of the 15th century during the reign of Ghiyas al-Din. It is one of a set buildings making up the royal palace complex at Mandu, which consists of the Jahaz Mahal, the Hindola Mahal, the Taveli Mahal, and the Nahar Jharokha. The Hindola Mahal may have been used as an audience chamber. The plan of the Hindola Mahal is a T-shape, though examination of the exterior walls leads to the conclusion that the crossbar was added later. The vertical mast of the plan consists of one main hall measuring 30 by 18 metres (98 by 59 feet) and 12 metres (39 feet) high. Its lateral walls are 3 metres (9.8 feet) thick and further reinforced by massive inclined buttresses that angle over 77 degrees. These highly inclined buttresses give the Hindola Mahal (Swinging Palace) its name. They also neutralize the outward force of five massive arches that once supported the large flat roof of the main hall. On each exterior of the long sides of the main hall are six recessed arches which hold doors in their lower sections and three slabs of open-work stone windows to let in air and light. A high wall holds battlements on the roof of the building.
Sumana B — Google review
The entire fort complex within the Jahaj Mahal of mandu is steeped in history, it's not only absolutely stunning but also such an experience. Hindola Mahal is undergoing certain upkeep work and that's great, but the place itself is very beautiful, the architecture is to die for and the light and sound show at night is also projected here, such a great experience.
Dr. G — Google review
Hindola Mahal is Artistic, Beautiful Unique Structure ! Hindola Mahal Built by Hushang Shah, probably around A.D. 1425 as a Durbar hall. The walls are inordinately thick and slope like those of a castle. The slope of over 77 degrees gives a swinging appearance to the building, hence the name. The plan is 'T' shaped. The upright stem being the main hall (which was built first), and the cross bar is a transverse portion added later. The structure was probably supposed to have the zenana place as another storey above the main hall, which would explain the bulk and strength of the walls. A warrior in the making who fought 40 battles undefeated and I must say that his final resting place is ignored being a decorated Peshwa army commander. Bajirao Peshwa was known for his battlefield tactics, shrewd guerrilla warfare and blazing speed of covering a journey from Delhi to Mumbai in 72 hours on a horse back. The last know battle fought by the Peshwa was at Mandu where he established Maratha rule. Due to extreme humidity the Peshwa took ill and developed extreme sunstroke and fever and passed away at the banks of Narmada river and his samadhi was built at Raverkhedi. The Peshwa was only 40 years old at the time of his death.

There are more development works planned to uplift the place. The final 300 meters of the path to the Smadhi are through Raver village lanes. There is a small shop outside. It is a very picturesque spot, especially in monsoon when the water gushes down the 200-foot deep gorge. The view is very scenic when the sun sets. A good place for a nice trekking or camping activity also. People should rake efforts to keep the area clean. Beware of monkeys as they can be troublesome sometimes. Adequate parking space is available. It is also a historical spot to commemorate the heroics of Tantya Bheel against the British.

Beautiful place....But the security staff is highly unprofessional and illiterate. Intolerable rude behavior.

The falls do not allow you to travel to the bottom anymore so lost a lot of charm. You only get to see it from far and are surrounded by street vendors. There is not many covered spaces to hide from the sun. Hardly an adventure spot and definitely not an interesting tourist spot as it only has one thing to see.

Shri Annapurna Temple Indore

Mentioned on
8 lists
Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
The Annapurna Temple is an ornate Hindu temple in Indore, India dedicated to the goddess of food, Annapurna. Thousands of pilgrims and tourists visit this shrine every year, drawn by its imposing facade and gilded gate.
This temple is dedicated to Maa Annapurna and stands out for its stunning architecture and serene atmosphere. The structure is single-leveled, but its beauty lies in the intricate details that adorn every part of it. The temple is supported by numerous finely carved pillars, each featuring beautiful architectural engravings that reflect traditional craftsmanship. Constructed entirely with white marble, the temple walls, pillars, and boundary are adorned with delicate carvings of various gods and goddesses, especially from the Malwa region’s artistic style. At the heart of the temple resides the deity of Maa Annapurna. The inner sanctum offers a peaceful and calming environment, making it an ideal place for meditation or quiet reflection. The marble flooring adds to the soothing vibe, encouraging visitors to sit and absorb the divine energy of the space. From the outside, the temple is equally captivating. Especially during the evening, it is beautifully illuminated with white and blue lighting that gives the entire structure a divine and ethereal glow. The temple is not just visually impressive, but also thoughtfully designed for visitor comfort. A dedicated footwear stand is available to the left of the entrance for safekeeping. Within the same temple complex, there are several smaller shrines, including one dedicated to Lord Shiva. I also noticed a covered well, suggesting that the temple has historical roots and has likely undergone renovations over time. Interestingly, the temple is usually not very crowded, which allows visitors to fully appreciate its spiritual and architectural charm in a calm and peaceful setting.

This mandir is absolutely stunning — the entire place is made of beautiful marble with intricate designs that make it look divine. The lighting, especially in the evening, adds a golden glow that makes the whole temple shine even more. The atmosphere is peaceful and spiritual. They also serve free herbal tea, which is a lovely gesture and adds to the calm and welcoming experience. Definitely worth visiting for both the architecture and the serenity! 🙏

Annapurna Temple in Indore is one of the most famous and revered temples of the city, known for its spiritual aura as well as its architectural beauty. Dedicated to Goddess Annapurna, the goddess of food and nourishment, this temple attracts not only devotees but also tourists who wish to witness its unique charm. The temple is built in a way that beautifully combines spirituality with art, as its entrance resembles the grand style of South Indian temples. Inside, the temple houses the idol of Goddess Annapurna, along with other deities such as Shiva, Hanuman, and Kalabhairava, giving devotees a complete spiritual experience. The temple is very beautiful, and once you enter and sit there after darshan, you instantly feel calm and relaxed. The entrance with the big elephant structures really catches your eye, and the detailed carvings inside the temple are amazing. It’s not too crowded, and there’s no ticket required for darshan. Parking is also available inside the temple premises, which is convenient. The whole place gives a very positive and peaceful vibe — truly worth visiting if you’re in Indore.

Very old Heritage temple. It was recently renovated and they have a very huge backyard where religious events take place often. Parking is at the back of the temple and they also have a gaushala with more than 25 cows. They are now building a annkshetra (food hall) at the back for common people.

Lal Bagh Palace

Mentioned on

Historical place museum
Sights & Landmarks
Lal Bagh Palace, a lavish 19th-century mansion of the Holkar dynasty, showcases a blend of baroque, rococo, and neoclassical architectural styles. This three-story palace has been transformed into a grand museum featuring Italian and Indian paintings, exquisite chandeliers, and furnishings reflecting early Georgian and late Persian designs. Spanning across 28 hectares of land, it stands as a testament to the opulence and culture of the Maratha kingdom.
Very great palace to know about the Holkars dynasty. The architecture was mix of European and Indian mix. The interiors are very posh and royal, however there were renovations going on in the palace. Once it is complete, I am sure it would be a must visit place in Indore. The entry ticket for adults is Rs. 50 and for kids it is free entry. Ample parking space and good greenery around the palace.
Vishnu C — Google review
My experience was quite good, but to get there you first need to bargain with the auto drivers. They will ask for ₹100, but you should only give them ₹20. They will tell you that the gate charges parking fees, but in reality, the parking is only ₹10. The place is not very far from the gate, so you can also go by walking. As for inside, you won’t find drinking water there, so it’s better to carry your own water bottle. The entry ticket is just ₹20. There isn’t much special inside the palace. However, it’s a nice place for couples—it’s peaceful, surrounded by forest, and you can sit quietly and talk. But if you are going with your family, then you won’t really find it that enjoyable.
RAVI K — Google review
Lal Bagh Palace is one of the most fascinating heritage gems in Indore, and my visit here was an unexpectedly rich experience. The moment you step inside the massive iron gates, imported from London and said to be inspired by those of Buckingham Palace, you instantly feel the grandeur of the Holkar era. The palace was built in phases between 1886 and 1921 by the Holkar rulers, mainly by Tukoji Rao Holkar II and III, and it served as one of their important residences. Knowing that you are walking through the same corridors where the Holkar royal family lived makes the visit even more special. The interiors are the real showstopper. The palace has a strong European architectural influence, especially Italian and French styles. The grand ballroom, with its large Belgian mirrors and ornate decorations, is absolutely breathtaking. One interesting fact I loved learning about is that the ballroom’s floor was designed with springs inside so that it would vibrate with the rhythm of the music during royal dances something truly ahead of its time. Another surprising feature is the European-style elevator, which was installed more than a century ago! Seeing such engineering in a palace of that era is genuinely impressive. The walls, furniture, chandeliers, and artwork, all reflect the luxurious lifestyle of the Holkars. Every room seems to preserve a piece of history. The palace also sits on a beautiful 28-acre estate, and although some areas outside could use better maintenance, the overall charm is still intact. The museum section displays old photographs, royal artifacts, weapons, and personal belongings that give insight into the Holkar dynasty’s cultural legacy. What I personally found most interesting is that Lal Bagh Palace used to host major diplomatic and royal gathering, it wasn’t just a residence but a symbol of Indore’s power, culture, and openness to global influences.
Hemendra D — Google review
This is a grand palace with a lot of European architectural influence. But it has its own pros and cons. Pros: Beautiful architecture and high ceilings (I really like buildings with high ceilings). Massive garden area in the premises. And since Indore doesn’t have a lot to offer, you can visit this to pass time. Cons: It’s under renovation for restoration work. Most of the palace is inaccessible. There is not much to see with what is accessible. If you have visited a lot of museums and palaces, you won’t enjoy it at all. Ticket price is only Rs 20 pp.
A K — Google review
I am disappointed and feeling cheated. The Lalbagh Palace is under renovation but they didn't tell me this before I bought the high priced ticket (400) for foreigners. Only a few ground floor rooms are accessible, other ones are closed. The garden is poorly maintained and littered, the toilet is broken and dirty. When I asked why the renovation wasn't mentioned, they said it is written. Yes, in Hindi. Why they couldn't write that two words: "Under renovation" in English? Waste of money and time. This high entry fees for foreigners, the constant discrimination, will not develop the international tourism.
Eva M — Google review
Lalbagh Palace at Indore was built by the Holkar Dynasty. The Holkars resided in the palace up to 1978. After the demise of Tukojirao Holkar(III), his granddaughter Usha Raje set up a trust to look after the estate. Later, it was brought under the control of State Government. It is a lovely palace to visit and has some beautifully decorated rooms which are very similar in architecture to what you see in Windsor palace. So whenever you are planning a trip to Indore, do visit this iconic Palace, and fall in love with its wonderful architecture. Owing to its real royal feel, Lal Bagh Palace has remained one of the favourite Bollywood shooting location. Many movies like Kalank, Singh Saab the Great and Mahal (Tamil Movie) have been shot in the palace. Date visited : 22.10.2025

I recently got a chance to revisit Kaanch Mandir on the auspicious occasion of Dhoop Dashmi, and it was an absolutely divine experience. The temple, made entirely of glass and mirrors, looks stunning on any day but on Dhoop Dashmi, with beautifully crafted Mandal Ji, its beauty and spiritual glow were truly beyond words. The temple is located in the main market area, so I’d recommend visiting by public transport or two-wheeler for convenience, as parking space is limited. This early 20th-century Jain marvel is an architectural feast, with literally every surface—walls, floor, ceiling, and pillars—covered in intricate glass and mirror mosaics. Step inside, and the reflections create a breathtaking illusion of infinite idols! Be prepared, though: while the artistry is stunning, the place is showing its age and could use better maintenance. Also, don't be surprised if the security staff seems a bit curt. Regardless, this shimmering wonder is a must-see for its truly unique beauty!

Echoes of Time — Rajwada, Indore By Musafir Nama (@Rana’s Photography) Indore wasn’t just another stop on my official trip — it turned into a walk through history. Before heading back to Delhi, my curiosity led me to the heart of the city — Rajwada Palace, a place where every arch and corridor whispers stories of the Holkar dynasty. As I stepped inside, the air felt different — heavy with heritage, yet peaceful. The long corridors echoed with the footsteps of the past. The stone arches stood tall, as if still guarding the royal memories etched in them. Each turn revealed symmetry, strength, and silence — a reminder of India’s architectural brilliance. Descending the narrow stone staircase felt like entering another era — dimly lit, mysterious, timeless. And when I finally stood in the courtyard, looking at the magnificent façade, I could almost imagine the royal gatherings that once filled this space with life and laughter. Travel isn’t always about distance — sometimes it’s about depth. Rajwada reminded me how every city has a soul, waiting to be heard. 📍 Rajwada Palace, Indore 🎥 Captured on an unplanned detour 📸 @Rana’s Photography ✨ Keep wandering. Keep feeling. — #MusafirNama

Rajwada Palace, Indore – A Grand Portal to the Rich Legacy of the Holkars Visiting Rajwada Palace in Indore is like stepping back in time to an era of royalty, artistry, and cultural grandeur. Built by the Holkar dynasty around 1747 AD under Malhar Rao Holkar, the palace stands as one of Indore’s most iconic landmarks. 🏛️ Architecture & Design The palace is a magnificent seven-storied structure — the lower three floors made of stone and the upper floors crafted in wood. This blend of materials gives it a unique charm while showcasing traditional Maratha, Mughal, and French architectural influences. The grand arched gateway, beautifully carved balconies, jharokhas, and large wooden doors add to its royal aura. 🔥 History & Restoration Rajwada has witnessed multiple fires over centuries, the most severe during the 1984 riots, which damaged many wooden sections. It was lovingly restored in the 2000s under Maharani Usha Devi Holkar, staying true to the original style using traditional materials. The gardens, fountains, and statues of Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar now make the palace surroundings even more inviting. 👀 What to See & Do Inside, the small museum displays royal artefacts, weapons, paintings, and heritage items from the Holkar era. The Darbar Hall and Ganesha Hall sometimes host cultural programs and exhibitions. Outside, the bustling Khajuri Bazaar and local street food stalls bring the old city of Indore to life. ℹ️ Visitor Info & Tips Timings: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (approx.) Entry Fee: Very nominal (around ₹10) Best Time: Morning or evening hours for pleasant weather Carry water, wear comfortable shoes, and plan to explore nearby markets. 💬 Final Thoughts Rajwada Palace is a beautiful blend of history, architecture, and local culture. Its restoration preserves the essence of Indore’s royal heritage. Walking through its gates, you can feel the pride and grandeur of the Holkar dynasty. A must-visit for anyone exploring Indore — whether you love history, architecture, or simply beautiful places.

Built by the Holkars, the palace beautifully blends Mughal, Maratha, and French architectural styles, making it a true cultural gem. 🌿 Experience: The palace courtyard is calm and inviting, with a temple at the center that adds to the spiritual vibe. The intricate carvings, old wooden doors, and stone walls tell stories of centuries gone by. In the evening, the palace lights up, and the atmosphere becomes even more magical. 🟢 What I Loved: The sense of history and pride that the place carries The peaceful surroundings despite being in the heart of bustling Indore The nearby market adds a lively touch—you can enjoy local snacks after your visit 🔴 Things to Note: Some parts of the palace are under restoration, so access may be limited It’s best to visit with a guide if you want to truly understand the history ✨ Overall: Rajwada Palace isn’t just a monument—it’s an experience of Indore’s soul. Standing there, you can almost imagine the grandeur of the Holkar dynasty and feel connected to the city’s roots.

Historic Seven-Story Palace: The main palace of the Holkar dynasty in Indore. It's a striking seven-story structure built in the 18th century. Architectural Blend: Famous for its unique architecture, which perfectly mixes Maratha (wooden structure) and Mughal/French (stone base) styles. Indore's Heart: Situated in the center of the city, the Rajwada is a cultural and historical landmark that symbolizes the city's royal past.

Treasure Island Mall, affectionately known as TI Mall by locals, is a vibrant multi-level shopping destination nestled in the heart of Indore. This contemporary mall boasts an impressive array of well-known retailers alongside a bustling food court and a state-of-the-art multiplex cinema. After undergoing extensive renovations and reopening in December 2015, it has become a favorite spot for both shopping enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
The mall is really good and well-maintained. It has a wide range of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options for everyone. The place is clean, spacious, and nicely organized. The ambiance is pleasant, and the staff are helpful and courteous. It’s a great spot to shop, dine, and spend quality time with family and friends.

Treasure Island Mall is a decent spot if you're looking for a quick shopping spree or a casual hangout. The mall offers a good variety of brands, and the food court has multiple options to satisfy your cravings. It's centrally located, which makes it easy to access. One nice feature is the game zone for kids — it’s a good place to keep the little ones entertained while you shop or relax. It’s not very large, but it has enough games and activities to keep kids happy for a while. However, the mall feels a bit cramped on weekends, and the parking situation can get frustrating. Some areas could definitely use better maintenance, and a few shops remain empty, which dulls the overall vibe. It’s a good place for a casual visit, but don’t expect a luxurious or very vibrant experience.

Nice mall with adequate parking place & other required facilities, automation and nature friendly precautions followed at every end. Need more food courts with better serving capacity. Allover look of the mall is good, you can refresh here with your family and shopping as per your requirements. Some unique collections are available here.

Treasure Island Mall in Indore is a great place to spend a few hours, whether you’re shopping, catching a movie, or just hanging out. The mall has a good variety of brands — from fashion to electronics — and the layout is pretty easy to navigate. The ambience is clean, modern, and well-maintained, which makes the overall experience pleasant. The food court has plenty of options, though it does get crowded during peak hours. Parking is convenient but can be a bit tight on weekends. One thing I really liked was the overall vibe — it feels lively without being too overwhelming. Overall, a solid shopping experience and definitely one of Indore’s better malls. Could improve crowd management and seating areas, but still worth visiting!

Went at 20:44 hrs on 21st Oct'25. At basement car park the counter person said fast tag not working. Asked to pay Rs 30 for parking. Paid and got reciept. At exit one attendant asked for parking payment proof and after seeing the reciept kept it with himself. Later on checked my sms an amount of Rs 50/- was deducted from my fasttag. Either mall doing scam or staff. The staff clearly said that fast tag is not working.

Holkar Stadium, a gem in Indore, is renowned for its remarkable record of hosting Team India without a single loss. This venue has witnessed unforgettable moments in cricket history, including five One Day Internationals and two Test matches. The stadium, originally named Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground, was renamed to honor the Holkar dynasty that once ruled the region.
*A Fantastic Experience at Holkar Stadium!* I recently had the opportunity to watch the thrilling match between Australia and New Zealand at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. The stadium's electric atmosphere was palpable, with a crowd that was evenly split in their support for both teams. *Match Highlights* The match itself was a nail-biter, with Australia posting a formidable total of 326 runs, thanks to Ashleigh Gardner's record-breaking century (115 off 83 balls) - the highest score by a number 6 batsman in Women's ODI World Cup history. New Zealand's chase was valiant, but ultimately fell short, with Sophie Devine's century (112 off 111 balls) not enough to secure a win. *Stadium Experience* The Holkar Stadium itself was impressive, with excellent facilities and a great viewing experience. The pitch offered good pace and bounce, making it exciting for both batters and bowlers. The weather was perfect, with moderate humidity and no interruptions. *Overall* If you're a cricket fan, I highly recommend catching a match at the Holkar Stadium. The energy of the crowd, combined with the high-quality cricket, makes for an unforgettable experience. Kudos to the stadium management for creating such an incredible atmosphere !

Visited Holkar Stadium, Indore in March 2023 during the India vs Australia Test match, and it was an exciting experience overall. The ground is relatively small, which adds to the thrill — boundaries come easily, making it a high-scoring and entertaining game to watch live. However, the stadium facilities could be better. There was no music system or DJ, which made the atmosphere feel a bit dull compared to other major stadiums. Some improvement in crowd engagement and overall vibe would really enhance the match-day experience. Still, if you’re a cricket lover, it’s a good place to catch a match — just don’t expect a high-energy stadium ambiance.

Holkar Stadium in Indore is one of the best cricket stadiums in India, known for its great atmosphere and exciting matches. The stadium is not very large, but that actually makes it special because every seat gives a clear and close view of the field. The crowd energy here is amazing, especially when India is playing. The facilities are well-maintained, and the cleanliness inside the stadium is usually very good. The sound system and big screens also help you enjoy every moment of the game. The staff members are friendly and helpful, and the entry process is usually smooth if you come on time. However, there are also a few negative points. During big matches, parking becomes a serious problem as the roads around the stadium get very crowded. Food and water inside are quite expensive compared to outside rates. Sometimes the seating area feels cramped, especially in the lower stands. Also, mobile networks often get weak during full-house matches. Overall, Holkar Stadium is a wonderful place for cricket lovers. It provides a lively experience and makes you feel proud of Indore, though it could improve crowd and parking management.

I was fortunate enough to squeeze in a visit to this beautiful, famous temple during my office tour in Indore, based on a local's recommendation. It was absolutely worth the detour! Despite its widespread fame in the city, I was pleasantly surprised to find no crowds or rush, allowing for a truly serene and meditative experience. The temple's standout feature is the ability to receive blessings from numerous deities all within the same complex. Finishing the visit with the delicious ladoo prasad was the ideal, sweet conclusion to my time of reflection. A must-visit for peace seekers!

Another important temple to visit in the holy town of Dewas, if you're here to pay obeisance at the Maa Chamunda Devi mandir. Kaila Devi mandir is located just 15-20 minutes away from the former. Apart from Rajasthan's Kaila Devi who's the presiding deity, there are numerous other temples located to other divinities.

Jai Mata Di. Kaila Devi temple is a major Piligrimage site and tourist attraction in Dewas city. During the time of both Navaratris various activities like Bhagwat Ji and Kathas were organised by the trust run by the temple association. Once upon a time a great fair was organised here but after sometime that was stopped. Jyortirlinga Mahadev temple, Maa Vaishno Devi Cave, Maa Durga Statue (41 feet), Shri Hanuman Ji Statue (51 feet), and Maa Kaila Devi temple are the major attraction of this place.
