El Zapato

Outdoor Activities
Other Outdoor Activities
El Zapato is a captivating destination that offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding valley, mountains, and a picturesque lake. While the shoe-shaped rock itself may not be as impressive due to its cemented appearance, it serves as an interesting focal point for photos. The area is perfect for a leisurely stroll, allowing visitors to explore various viewpoints and appreciate the natural beauty around them. Despite some graffiti on the lower rock, the overall experience remains delightful.
Beautiful. Short walk up Bigger than what it seems. Worth a walk around to see different views.
Art — Google review
It's a beautiful area to see the whole valley, but the "zapato" itself is kind of a joke and not that interesting. They clued the rock on top of the base. Originally it was one piece, but now it just looks fake because of the cement. Aside from the shoe, go here to see the nice view of the mountains and the awesome lake. Good place to go to and very close to Capilla del Monte.
Tom S — Google review
Nice and easy walk. Very good view. Free. Visited in low season.
Jackson H — Google review
Interesting park and notable spot to take some pictures of the Uritorco peak.
Jose C — Google review
A beautiful spot to visit. It's a pity the lower rock has graffiti on it. The view of the town, lake and mountains from that point is wondrous.

Agua de los Palos

Horseback riding service
Tours
Restaurant Agua de los Palos offers an incredible and unforgettable experience, perfect for spending a whole day. With activities such as swimming in the pool and horseback riding, guests can enjoy a variety of outdoor adventures. The stunning sunset adds to the overall charm of the place. The staff's attention and warmth are commendable, creating a welcoming atmosphere for visitors. Additionally, the restaurant serves high-quality gastronomy at reasonable prices, making it an experience worth repeating.
Little but beautiful hike up the North Side of the Gemelas. View points are well worth the hike up, which took us about 1h30 up and down. We also did the horse hike with the kids and they all loved it. The terrain was very accidented, but the horses handled it great. Our two guides were also very helpful and keen. Thumbs up! 👍

December 2024 price: 8100 pesos Off-season hours: Thursday - Sunday, 10am-7pm. High-season hours: Every day, early to 9pm. This is the only entrance to reach the trailhead for Cerro Las Gemelas. If you walk to the base from the center of Capilla del Monte, it will take over an hour. From the entrance gates it takes about 30-40 minutes to walk to the base and it is a fairly steep dirt road. If you drive, then it's easy. When you arrive, the owner, Paula, will have you sign a release. You can read it in English or Spanish, but you'll sign the Spanish release. You can also borrow poles.I didn't have a cap so Paula lent me one, as well as a bandana in case I got sweaty. She gives detailed instructions to reach the peak. I found the trail to be fairly easy but there were some harder parts with large stones. I reached the peak in 1.5 hours (descent in one hour). I was all alone up there which was great. You can eat at the restaurant before or after you go up. They have a pretty extensive menu. In January and February they have a swimming pool that you can use (for a fee) and spend the whole day there. It was a really beautiful place. Much better than paying $30 to climb Uritorco. Plus you can get great views of Uritorco from Las Gemelas.

Cerro la Banderita, located in the picturesque town of La Falda, Argentina, offers a rewarding hiking experience with stunning panoramic views. The ascent takes about an hour and a half and is described as relatively low difficulty. Once at the top, hikers are rewarded with incredible views of the entire valley below. It's recommended to bring water and a coat as temperatures can vary from hot at the base to cold at the summit.
Very poggers, relatively low difficulty ascent.
Tomás B — Google review
Beautifull view of La Falda village once you complete the hour long ascend. Somewhat rough, you're on your own because there is no ascending fee, no security, no guides. Beware of snakes, thorny vegetation and slippery slopes.

(Translated by Google) We climbed as a family. Medium difficulty. Our 5-year-old daughter handled it really well. We made four pit stops along the way to rest and recharge. The climb took us a total of two hours, at a slow pace and with time to rest with her. Some parts are more difficult than others, but the view from up there is beautiful! The trail is well marked. ✅ (Original) Subimos en familia. Dificultad media. (Translated by Google) A beautiful place to enjoy a lovely hike. The pros: landscapes, flora and fauna, medium difficulty, excellent signage but could be improved, and close to the center of La Falda. The cons: the trails are sometimes a bit steep, with little room between the mountain and nothingness. We got lost a couple of times because the trail forked, but we were able to reach the summit.

(Translated by Google) Medium level, with several rocky climbs that require you to be very careful. But there's plenty of shade along the way, so it's a good place to drink water, rest, and continue on. It took us about 1.5 hours to climb and about 45 minutes to descend. We spent a lot of time at the top enjoying the view. Wear good shoes and don't overdress! There's parking at the entrance and two girls who look after you at will, so you can pay when you leave.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful place to enjoy a lovely trek. Its advantages include stunning scenery, diverse flora and fauna, streams, a moderate to low difficulty level, and while the signage isn't perfect, it's virtually impossible to get lost because many people use the trails, and the access point is close to the center of La Falda, so you don't have to travel far.

The Hotel Eden, built in 1897, became in 2006 an excellent museum where you can make 2 guided tours, the day tours (from 9am), where you can see the cultural history (how it was built, the visits of the " Che "Guevara, Adolf Hitler, the poet Rubén Darío, the Prince of Wales, Albert Einstein, among other world-famous personalities and presidents who went down the Marmor Carrara staircase, among other stories), the nocturnal visits take place at 10pm and they are related to Myths and Legends that happened in the hotel (they start with a movie that tells paranormal events that happened in the hotel and then a dark tour for an hour, where unexplained things happen and they are scary!). Highly recommended !. Excelete attention of the staff, in an unforgettable place and with a unique history.

Las 7 Cascadas, La Falda

Outdoor Activities
Other Outdoor Activities
Las 7 Cascadas in La Falda is a fantastic destination for families, friends, or couples seeking a serene escape. Visiting at the end of August offers a tranquil experience with only a handful of visitors around. The entrance fee is quite reasonable, and while some amenities like pools and the kids' water park may be unavailable during this time, the stunning waterfalls and picturesque lake more than make up for it. The on-site staff are friendly and eager to assist you as you explore this beautiful terrain.
Great place to go with your family, friends, or partner. We went during the end of August so there were about only 20 or so other people there making it very quiet and peaceful. I think we paid only about 200 pesos to get in and though we couldn't use the pools or the kids water park, we still had fun. Staff on-site were great and helpful, the waterfalls were beautiful even though we went during the dry season, and the lake was beautiful as well.
Yo S — Google review
We went in September, so there wasn't many other people. It would probably be much better during the summer. They're was not much too see, other than the very small waterfalls (everything was really dry), and they still charged $7 a person.

Museo Rocsen

Museum
Non-profit organization
Specialty Museums
Nestled in the charming town of Nono, Museo Rocsen is a treasure trove for history enthusiasts and curious travelers alike. With an astonishing collection of over 18,000 items spanning natural history, archaeology, and decorative arts, this museum offers a captivating glimpse into the past. Each exhibit is thoughtfully curated with detailed descriptions that enhance your understanding of the artifacts' significance.
This was one of my favourite spots in Nono, this place is plenty of old stuff but even that, it’s still gorgeous and interesting, each step you take is worthwhile, there are descriptions of everything to help you to be aware what is in front of you and understand what was its purpose in those times. This museum isn’t far from the Central Park in Nono, it’s almost 10 minutes in car. I recommend to visit this place for sure. You’ll love it even if you don’t like museums, this is really different than the ordinary museums.

Amazing place. It's like 100 museums in one, they have an extensive collection of 60000 different objects, most of them not pieces of art, but simple objects of any type from 1820 to approximately 2000, and if you're over 30 it will surely trigger many memories of your own past. There are also geological, biological, anatomic exhibits, it's definitely a very interesting place and it's worth a visit.
Alejandro S — Google review
Crazy, crazy , crazy place!! Totally recommend it. There is so much to see. So many curiosities . You will spend a few hours there. Don't forget about the secret door before exiting the museum.

Cabañas del Peñón

Hotel
Nature & Parks
Nestled in a stunning natural setting, Cabañas del Peñón offers an enchanting escape with five rustic cabins that blend seamlessly into the woodsy landscape. Guests can enjoy complimentary breakfast and take a refreshing dip in the infinity pool while soaking up breathtaking views. The cabins are spacious and comfortable, featuring heating and well-functioning showers for a cozy stay.
(Translated by Google) The place is wonderful, the house is beautiful, very spacious and comfortable. There is heating, the shower works perfectly. The view is incredible... We couldn't use the pool, because we had to arrive in the rain and in Autumn. The road to get there is a little complicated (and was made a little more complicated by the rain), but you can go up by car perfectly. I then recommend walking to get to each place, and not going up and down with the car, every time. Be that as it may, the place is a dream, it is worth staying here if you are in La Cumbrecita.

(Translated by Google) The environment is beautiful, but the cabins are not what they show on the networks. The children's mattresses were thin, when someone took a bath they leaked in the dining room (disgusting), the bathroom with very little light. The double room has a strange layout, with the wardrobe almost in the middle. The first day we found a scorpion of significant size. I attach photos and video of everything. I'm not coming back, they are a lie.

(Translated by Google) The cabin was really a disaster: the light switches were loose, revealing the cables, the toilet lids were loose, the bathroom was dirty, in terrible condition, lamps were out of adjustment, cobwebs and garbage, the smell of a septic tank, the TV cable was stripped, preventing it from working, curtains were torn and stained, door handles were off, lamps without protection, broken chairs, stained bed linen, loose stair railing causing danger, breakfast that was described as continental only had bread, milk and juice, and the cherry on the cake, when showering upstairs all the water fell through the ceiling that was uncovered from the bathroom below, our messages were only ignored, the pool was in terrible health conditions, it was green and with a lot of dirt. We demanded our invoice and as of today we have not received it nor the tax free since we paid with a foreign card.

(Translated by Google) The place was beautiful, the nature but the service was bad, no one received me at all because of wsp, the breakfast was very very basic. The pool was dirty. You are alone in the middle of the mountains. It's not worth the price they charge you. In the Rock Park brochure it says that if you rent there you have unlimited entry to the activities. It's a lie, they don't take care of it. I called the number on the brochure, they didn't answer me. (Translated by Google) Beautiful cabins, attention and location. The only thing I complain about is how ugly the road is to get there. They should try to resolve that point! Personally, I really liked everything but I don't know if I would return if they didn't fix the route to the cabins. If you don't go in 4x4 you run the risk of breaking the car. Cascada Grande

Hiking Trails
Cascada Grande is a picturesque waterfall located in La Cumbrecita, accessible via a 15-minute walk through the mountains. While not the most impressive waterfall, it offers a lovely sight, especially if visited early to avoid crowds. The hike is relatively easy and suitable for families and people of all ages. There are ample photo opportunities along the way. Some visitors found the hike fun and enjoyable, while others wished for easier access to get closer to the falls.
It's not the most amazing waterfall but it's very pretty if you can get there early enough to avoid the crowds. We were lucky enough to leave what was already a fairly crowded area just a few minutes before what I assume was a bus load of people. The viewing area was crowded with 10 people. I cannot imagine what it would have been like with the 50 people we saw heading there as we left. But the waterfall was lovely, coming into a little pool at the bottom. I assume you could swim there if you didn't mind the cold water. As for the trail, while it had some steeper parts and was a little tricky at times, it wasn't the death march that many have described. We're not spring chickens but managed it from the trail head in less than 30 minutes with minimal fuss. Getting down to the pool below was very steep however. Do not confuse this with a different waterfall which is much further away and requires a long hike to get there. Tourist office do not mention that one. This one is on the map they give you.

great walk up to the falls! Remember you can not drive in Cumbrecita so it is about a 45 min walk to the falls from outside of town. Totally worth it. We had our 6 year old with us and he loved climbing up the rocks. We took a 1/2 way break in town where there are lots of local foods and shops to grab a snack/water or just a break before headed up the falls. On the way home there was a bus that brought us back to where we parked the car which was nice after hiking and swimming all day. Highly recommend this area, it was gorgeous.

Bodies of Water
La Olla is a picturesque destination near the town, offering ideal spots for trout fishing at Lake of the Trout and Rio del Medio. The surrounding mountains provide unique locations for this activity. Despite its popularity leading to crowded high seasons and occasional littering, La Olla's natural beauty remains undeniable. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing swim in the cold waters during low season, while taking in the breathtaking views and relaxing atmosphere.
Such a beautiful location without a difficult path of arrival! Take into consideration that it is $8,000 pesos (per car) to enter La Cumbrecita and park to then walk to La Olla. Weather permitting, sweet spot to take a dip in the water! Pet friendly is a big plus.

Bodega Noble San Javier

Winery
Food & Drink
Wineries & Vineyards
"Bodega Noble", located in the picturesque region of Traslasierra, Argentina, is a family owned winery and rural hotel, run by Nicolas Jascalevich, a world-class winemaker, in a natural environment on the slopes of the Champaqui peak, the near 3,000 m highest mountain at the Cordoba range. "Noble" wines have been many times awarded national and internationally, their production numbers are limited in a clear bet for quality and environmentally sustainability. Besides wine tasting, "Bodega Noble" offers its visitors a peaceful atmosphere to enjoy nature and traditional country lifestyle, with the possibility to stay the night in its timber houses lodgement known as "La Jara", built with original materials following the old style architecture patterns typical from this part of the world. Nicolas, aka "Picu", and his family are genuine hosts and they'll make sure your experience turns into an unforgettable memory. Definitely worth the visit, surely you'd rather stay than leave once there.

(Translated by Google) The farm is perfectly signposted on the route from both directions. Continuing along the entrance path you can see the different varieties of olive trees in a super extensive plantation. Arriving at the reception you will find covered parking, ideal for these days when the sun breaks the earth. Upon entering, we were greeted by a blonde girl (I don't remember her name) who was very attentive and friendly. She showed us and told the history of the different varieties of olive trees and then explained the manufacturing processes of each type. After this they access the tasting room, where they can find more than 10 varieties of oils and different types of olives, all extremely exquisite! I recommend the Intenso olive oils (very spicy and tasty) and the basil flavored one! And Greek olives have a spectacular flavor.

(Translated by Google) The apartment is very nice, comfortable, it just doesn't have a microwave. The pool was too deep, I couldn't go in with my son and the one that was for children was empty and dirty. The breakfast was quite weak, a thermos with milk and another with coffee and three tea bags. To accompany some biscuits and some portions of sponge cake. No jam, butter, dulce de leche, much less fruit salad and/or orange juice. The last night before we left it was very windy, it seemed like a storm was coming in the pm, so much so that it tore the tarp off the roof where the car was left, luckily no stones fell.

There is also a place to sit down and eat typical and varied meals. There are stalls selling crafts and other products. You have easy access places or you can take a walk of approximately 30 minutes until you reach different points with natural pools with ice-cold water hahaha but it is impossible not to get in and experience something new. I fell in love with the place. It is a sad sad place. All the trees are slowly dying from an army of parasites, including the old algarrobo tree. It is odd that no one is doing anything to save the trees. I don't recommend visiting this place, it's a tourist trap.

(Translated by Google) This place generated mixed feelings in me, honestly. On the one hand, the concept is fascinating. It's a giant sundial, and it's incredibly interesting to see how it tells the exact time using only the sun's shadow. It's one of those things that leaves you thinking, because it's so ingenious and educational. Now, the not-so-good side is its location. It's quite remote from everything, and honestly, I don't know if it's worth the trip there just to see the clock. My recommendation is not to treat it as a destination in itself. The ideal thing is to see it in passing, as part of a larger tour. For example, if you're planning to go to the Pasos Malos area (which is spectacular) or if you're going to do the Camino del Peñón, which is a beautiful and not very long walk, then definitely take advantage and stop by. It's an interesting curiosity, but one to visit as part of another plan.
