Cerro Rico

Mountain peak
Sights & Landmarks
Cerro Rico, a mountain in Bolivia, is renowned for its historically abundant silver deposits. Potosi, the city built around it, once boasted a population of 150,000 and was one of the wealthiest cities globally due to the riches extracted from Cerro Rico's mines. The silver mined here fueled Spain's economy and supported lavish local amenities.
Instead of visiting the mines with an organised tour, I decided to climb the mountain. You can follow the roads used by the trucks (and that's probably the easiest way to the top) or you can scramble some parts to save time. Plenty of places with loose rocks so be careful. The summit of the mountain collapsed in 2011 and formed a crater. Watch out for the dogs.

People who worked at Mine are Heroes Unforgettable experience.

Life-changing experience. Don’t cheap out: hire a local guide and buy gifts for the miners who let you visit, and el tío if that’s your thing. Maybe a few scraps of bread for the dogs, too. Again, hire a guide. Spending $15-20 to visit the right way is absolutely worth it.
Ben B — Google review
Very eye-opening experience to take a tour here. Astonished how miners work the same way as they did hundreds of years ago. Koala tours is recommended as they are a responsible agency.
Gergely S — Google review
Visiting the mines is not a joke but it's such a strong experience and I believe shouldn't be missed while in Potosi.
Cinzia C — Google review
Fascinating place with lots of history.
Saikhnaa — Google review
This place is arguably one of the most painful and intensely violated place I’ve been: this mountain is the symbol of a century-long robbery that has been going on since the discovery of its silver, and it is the grave of thousands of people that poison themselves by working tirelessly in its dark caves chasing easy money. Its energy is one of illusion, it’s scarred face is the totem of a culture based on a very very volatile value. Go by all means and walk into a mine, you will never forget it, ever.
Paola E — Google review
Iconic mountain with a dramatic history dominating the city centre. Lots of mines are still functioning these days: try to visit them with a local guide and buy some presents for the poor miners as an expression of respect, solidarity and interest

The Church of Saint Francis in Potosi is a sight to behold, with its magnificent rooftop offering stunning views of the city. The church is constructed from various natural stones and boasts beautiful domed roofs. It also serves as a museum, providing insight into life in La Paz during the Colony. Visitors can opt for a full church tour or simply visit the roof for breathtaking panoramas. The entrance fee is affordable, and knowledgeable guides offer enriching tours.
Love at first site. Returned 3 times to be able to do a guided tour. Visit the rooftop for a magnificent view of Potosi. The church is all built in different kinds of natural stone. The roof with its domes is of great beauty. The San Benedito neighborhood offers a great view on the convent.

This is a working monastery which houses 10 San Francisco monks. We paid for a four 20 Bolivianos each. We were informed about the monastery, the church and we also able to see the views of the city, mountain and mines from the top. There are set tours each day.
Kara H — Google review
The views are spectacular! You can either do a full church tour or a tour straight to the roof. The main hall and courtyard though is not to be missed! 20bs a ticket for just the roof tour

The cost was BS 20 per person. Closed on Sundays. We turned up on a Monday and had an English guide right away - seems like they are just waiting around for people to come. He showed us around the cathedral which was beautiful. We ended on the belltower with a decent view. I'm not sure why Potosi gets such a bad rap - We loved it here and really wish we have have spend two nights instead of 1.

$3 entry fee includes guided tour in Spanish. It was just me and the guide, a charming young man who spoke slowly so I could understand more. Definitely worth going and you get a fabulous view of the square from the belfry. Entrance is from the block behind.

(Translated by Google) Superb and austere building in the center of Potosì. The building has a harmonious façade with three portals of which the largest is elegantly crafted. The two bell towers on the sides, which form a single body with the same facade, give the building a harmonious appearance. The interior is very large, bright and elegant, very sumptuous. The view is beautiful during the day but even more so in the evening with the truly evocative lighting of the facade and the two bell towers. The National Mint of Bolivia, also known as the Casa Nacional de la Moneda, is a captivating historical site nestled in Potosi. This remarkable museum showcases an extensive collection of coins and antique machinery used for silver production, reflecting its rich heritage. Established in 1572 under the orders of the Viceroy of Toledo, it stands as one of South America's most significant museums.
Very interesting and well presented museum. Very helpful to understand the rich important history mining has in Bolivia and this region in specific. All of the texts in the museum are in Spanish so it’s helpful if you speak the language, you can select an English tour however. You can only visit this museum with a scheduled tour guide.
Paul O — Google review
We had a good English tour, the museum has quite a good mix of different things. Of course there is a lot related to the old mint, like the machines they used in the different points in history and a lot of old coins. There is a historic library with important, old books for Potosí. Also some minerals, paintings, religious things, etc. Overall the whole building is also nice to see. Maybe they could improve a bit by defining clear start times of the tours. Some people joined the tours 10 minutes after the start.
Philipp S — Google review
A quite interesting museum. My wife and I visited it in October 2025. At this time the entry was 40 BOB for foreigners. We were happy to find out that this automatically included an English-speaking guide. However, as with most museums in the country, there is no clear logic as to how the exhibits are organized. The rooms jump from religious paintings to old coins, from UNESCO-Certificates to old coin-stamping machines. Still it is definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in Potosi.
Dmitry S — Google review
The museum is great. But the guide qasn’t really happy to be there. Also the direction of the room didn t makes sense sometimes, like not in chronological order. Appart from that it’s good to lesrn about the history of the coins.
Tony C — Google review
English tour was brilliant and provided an insight into the history of Potosí and the beginning of the mint. The grounds are beautiful, you must pay extra if wanting to take photographs. Tour lasts around 1.5 hours and was 40 bolivianos per person.
Kara H — Google review
Beautiful museum with lots of history about the history of silver in Potosi. I think the 20BoB extra cost for taking photos is quite steep. I came to Potosí for the mines and the museum tour, but I feel like the museum tour is quite rushed especially in the furnace rooms with actual silver history. There's also just too much talk about Catholicsm and paintings of virgin Mary, I prefer to spend more time on the actual silver tour and less on religion. All in all, it's a nice tour with beautiful artifacts and coin collections.
Hannah M — Google review
Interesting and well set up museum, but unfortunatelly, there were no tours in English and most of the information was only in Spanish. It means that as a foreigner you pay double what the locals pay and have to walk with the group (cannot explore on your own) and not understand anything. Not sure it is really worth the 40 BOB entrance ticket + 20 BOB for using the camea + almost 2 hours of your time.
Pavel P — Google review
Fantastic tour here—one of the best in the country. The guides were funny and knowledgeable and offered real insights into the life and times of Potosi’s heyday, and the exhibits inside the Mint are maintained well so that visitors can understand the conditions of the workers and the historical progression of the minting over the centuries. Certainly a tour worth taking.

The Saint Theresa Museum is an exceptionally fascinating and remarkably well-maintained establishment. The guide's expertise was highly commendable, making it one of the city's standout attractions. This intriguing museum offers tours in various languages including French, Spanish, and presumably English as well. It provides an enlightening experience into the lives of the carmelitas, offering valuable insights into their way of life.
Interesting visit to know who the carmelitas lived
Renato C — Google review
This is interesting both from a historical and museum point of view. The Carmelite convent in Potosí, Bolivia, is actually the Santa Teresa Convent founded in 1685 by the Order of the Discalced Carmelites in honor of Saint Teresa of Avila. It was originally a home for Carmelite nuns, a cloistered home for young women from wealthy families, who entered at the age of 15 and lived in strict isolation, dedicating themselves to prayer, scripture, and tasks like baking and sewing. The convent was richly endowed with gifts from families, including paintings, jewellery, and furniture, which are now part of its museum collection showcasing religious art and historical items including stunning Baroque altarpieces, artworks by prominent painters and macabre relics such as self-flagellation tools.
Ross D — Google review
It's an extremely sad tour. It tells the story of how the terrible catholic institution not only made enslavement happen in America but also made millions of women being nuns that had to live away from society, not talking to their own family. They even show the self torture instruments and where the nuns' bodies were buried. It takes 1 hour and a half for the whole tour and it's very slow rhythm since the guide locks and opens each of the hundreds of rooms you have to get in. For 30 bobs I believe you better do something else.
Beatriz L — Google review
Was placed in a tour group that started 40 minutes prior, with the explanation that i could catch the beginning with the following tour. The tour guide was so dreadfully trite that simple plaques next to each item could've taken her job. No English tours were available. I left after 15 minutes.
Dima K — Google review
Saint Theresa Museum and Convent is incredible. Lydia provides an awesome tour in English. Teenage girls were only accepted into the convent if their family was wealthy enough to give a dowry of paintings or other valuables worth 2,000 pieces of gold. Once the girl entered, she never left the building for her entire life and could not see or talk to an outsider. Sounds horrible, but it was an honor. Amazing stories, amazing art. Amazing rooms.
Kym B — Google review
Interesting place but more as a museum of christian religious art than as a monastery. Actually very little is disclosed about the monastic lives of the nuns.

Ojo del Inca, a beautiful and easily accessible location, is situated a short 15-minute walk from the main road. Unfortunately, entrance to the lake is currently prohibited due to safety concerns. Very nice and accessible place, about 15 minutes of climbing by foot from the main road. Bathing in the natural pool and camping are prohibited now because of safety incidents, but there's a warm stream that feeds a large but a little colder pool and is very nice for bathing. There is no entrance fee, but also not much care taken of the place so make sure not to leave any trash!
Ittai E — Google review
It could be a nice place if it was maintained properly. But it is just dirty and there is rubbish all over. It is not allowed to go swimming. The couple living there allows to stay there for 10 minutes and after that they shout at you to leave that place. No signs no nothing. Tourists are definitely not welcome here.
Felix Z — Google review
Not recommended. There is a old lady yelling and trying to get as much money from you as she can. There is a big signs DO NOT ENTER in front of the lake.
Sonja M — Google review
We arrived out and there was a lady saying that entry is prohibited because of accidents in the past. There is also barbed wire and a sign saying no entry.
Eoin D — Google review
I would advise you not to go here We got a taxi out to Tarapaya There isn’t a single sign or any indication of how to get up to it We had to ask a few different people if there was a way to get to it Eventually we found it, after being there for 3 minutes a woman came over and started yelling at us telling us we couldn’t swim in the water but also demanding money from us Me and my friend speak broken Spanish and we said we didn’t know you couldn’t swim and we wouldn’t get in the water, the woman was still quite frantic so we decided to leave and she kept following us looking for money eventually had to give her some to get her to leave us alone Not the day we expected, and no swimming for us Scenery was beautiful though so there’s a plus
Chris O — Google review
The place is ok. But mind the lady who keeps the place! She starts to scream at you at the benniging, than she turn to be nice.....but than she ask for money!!! Pretending 10Bs or more!! Not nice at all!!! And it's not legal .....

(Translated by Google) An impressive place. You can go by bus from The Old Terminal for 5bs and they will drop you off on the road. You cross the bridge and see some stairs (in the photo). You start to climb and follow the white stones, in about 15 minutes you reach the lagoon. There is a warning not to bathe due to the whirlpools that exist and some deaths that these have caused. There are guards you can talk to and try to ask permission, but they don't always let you. If they finally let you swim on the shore, be grateful and leave a tip to the guard, it is well worth enjoying this natural landscape. If you prefer not to risk it, about 10 more minutes away there are swimming pools with thermal water and for 8bs you can bathe peacefully. Fact: depth is unknown. From 4 meters, the temperature increases to 50º and the average water temperature is 35º. The Incas already bathed here. Enjoy! (Original) Un lugar impresionante. Mountains
Illimani, a 6,438-meter mountain in Bolivia, is a popular spot for climbers with four peaks including the highest south summit. The mountain offers breathtaking views and is a majestic sight from Ciudad del Alto to La Paz. Its snow-covered peaks provide spectacular scenery and are especially beautiful during winter sunsets. Despite being located four hours from the main city, the aesthetic beauty of Illimani makes it worth visiting for anyone who loves natural landscapes.
4 hours from the main city but the view is breathtaking.
Jane T — Google review
A beautiful and imposing peak seen from La Paz. The standard route to the summit starts from the road (“base camp”) to “high camp” (Nido de los Condores) - A beautiful spot with stunning views of the peaks and glaciers of Illimani, as well as the surrounding valleys. Can also see Huayna Potosi, Sajama and Parinacota mountains in the distance. Snow/ice covered for the tents. Takes about 3-4 hours from the end of the road (“base camp”) to get high camp. Initially it’s a gently rising gravel path, but about half way becomes a fair bit steeper as you ascend and follow the ridge - some scree slopes, and some low-grade scrambling in places. From high camp to summit it’s a fairly steep glacier traverse (significantly more so than Huayna Potosi), and whilst there was no ice climbing per se there was one section whilst crossing a crevasse on a steep slope that required similar techniques. A challenging but beautiful summit with amazing views of surrounding peaks and valleys!

Valle de la Luna, also known as Valley of the Moon, is a unique area with trails and peculiar rock formations shaped by mountain erosion. The landscape is characterized by its lunar-like appearance, created by a combination of heavy precipitation over the years and soft volcanic soil. Situated near La Paz, this dramatic badland features natural amphitheaters and eroded rock walls that crumble under your fingertips.
Absolutely stunning! 15 min from La Paz South, you have to go and see those incredible landscapes. Between Star Wars and the moon, it's a great site to visit. There are 2 tours, a 15 min and a 45 min one. The 45 min is the best. From the Teleférico green line last stop you can catch a collective bus or grab a cab. The entrance fee is 20 BOB. Totally worth it!

Magical place, you take a tour from the city of la paz its 40 to 45 mins either reserve a tour from city center or feel free to take a car by yourself, also thete are buses go there from the city center, amazing rocks formation, you can literally do a 15 or 45 mins hike level really simple and easy and safe, even for children between 7-10 years old Nice to take also fun pictures Really recommended if you are around la paz Take with you sunscreen, bottle of water and maybe a hat to protect from the sun And enjoy the beauty of the nature, PS: it looks like Ciudad Roma if you did the 5 days tour in Uyni, but smaller!

Nice park but not great for cycling. We are around sixty years old and found it too hilly to bike.
Frank L — Google review
I visited Moon valley with a tour group in October 2025. Moon valley has sandstones and clay rich columnar structures and located in the lowest altitude of La Paz. As explained by our tour guide Milena, the origin of name is related to the astronaut Neil Amstrong. He saw a shiny patch on earth from moon and decided to visit the place once he arrived on earth. So that brought him to salt marshes in Bolivia. During the visit he arrived at La Paz valley and noted the present moon valley area. So he called out that it looks like in moon and so came the name Moon Valley 😊 Many foreigners and rich people and those having high blood pressure problems selected moon valley area as their residence because of favorable climatic conditions there. Also altitude sickness is not a big issue in this part. It’s very touristic and well managed by the government. But I still prefer the Animas Valley, which is not very accessible and having less facilities for tourists over Moon Valley 😊
Warshi D — Google review
I think this is a bit overrated as a location - sure, nice to see and interesting, but hardly as sensational as they make it sound. 20 BOB entrance fee.

Mirador Killi Killi is a popular hilltop destination in La Paz, Bolivia, offering stunning panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. It is known for its dramatic vistas and scenic gardens, making it a favorite spot for locals to unwind or enjoy romantic moments. The viewpoint holds historical significance as it served as the headquarters during an indigenous siege in 1781.
Waaah such a beautiful place to see all of La Paz!! Would recommend going there around 5:30 and staying until 7 so you can see both the sunset and the lights at night!!!! Nice place for a lil picnick too I would say :)
Eva W — Google review
Great viewpoint for shots of the city. I'm not sure how safe the wall back would be at night, but getting there during the day was not an issue and I was able to take Uber back down. It is not a long walk to get to the viewpoint, but there is a fair elevation gain so if you have not acclimated yet you may want to consider having a car drop you off.
Parker V — Google review
Lovely mirador with a 360° view over La Paz. Resting area too so you can rest a little after climbing there and have a glance on the city. Definitely worth it!
Nathalie P — Google review
Things to Keep in Mind The climb up is quite steep; given La Paz’s high altitude, taking a taxi or cable car part-way may be wise if you aren’t acclimatised. Mirador Killi Killi is one of the best lookout points in La Paz. The view of the city and surrounding Andes is breathtaking. We took a taxi up to avoid the steep climb, arrived around sunset and stayed until dusk — the city lights and colors of the sky were unforgettable. Bring a jacket and water, and allow about 30-45 minutes to take it all in. Highly recommended for a short stop while exploring La Paz. “Killi Killi” comes from a small bird of prey (falco sparverius) that once inhabited the area. The site served as a vantage and control point during the 1781 siege of La Paz by indigenous leader Tupac Katari.
Vakhtang J — Google review
Astonishing! Take a Trufi up there or walk it up, either way, a well kept and beautiful sighting of La Paz at nearly 360° all around. Enjoy!

A big walk straight up to get to the Mirrador but unreal views once you get there. A bunch of benches to sit on, a quiet chill spot. I have no doubt the sunrise or sunset would be amazing. When you see the street art below you are getting close to the Mirrador.

I love this way of transportation. There are lot's of traffic jams in La Paz but with the Teleférico you can avoid these jams easily. You fly as a bird above the city. It feels very safe and secure! And I didn't even mention the view!!! I will use it again, again and again, like many citizens of La Paz.

Great way for tourist to get a birds eye view of the city. If you have a long layover it’s easy to get to a station via a taxi and then take a loop. We did the silver line to yellow to Celest (sky blue) to white then orange and lastly red lines. It’s three bolivianos per line but if you tell them your plan when you buy the tickets you can get the first for three and the rest for two bolivianos. There is security in every station and all the carts felt safe.
Trenton D — Google review
One star review - we bought the 30 BOB ticket and toward the gate because we are breathing heavily (attitude sickness - first day in La Paz), they don’t allow us to go in … ridiculous, not recommended.

Plaza Murillo, located in the heart of La Paz's old town, is a grand square that serves as the epicenter of Bolivia's political life. Surrounded by stunning colonial architecture, this historic plaza is home to significant landmarks such as the Presidential Palace and the National Congress. The intricate facades and historical significance of these buildings offer visitors a glimpse into Bolivia's rich political and cultural heritage.
Ground zero of Bolivian politics, with the Presidential Palace and National Congress host here in some historic colonial buildings. Also a very beautiful cathedral is found in La Plaza and the open space around this square is very well guarded 24 hrs/day with plenty of military units and special police forces. The surrounding streets can be a nice surprise for visitors, with another main attractions of La Paz, starting from museums, mercados, boutique-shops, clubs, theaters, different churches and different impressive buildings.

The Coca Museum, located on Linares 906, is a small museum that delves into the history and various applications of the coca plant. It showcases the evolution of the coca leaf from traditional medicine to its use as a key ingredient in products like Coca-Cola and eventually cocaine. The museum also highlights the cultural significance of the coca leaf in Bolivia, especially since it became legal for traditional and medicinal purposes during Evo Morales' presidency.
An extremely well don’t museum that pulls you in and leaves you yearning for more. The photos are amazing and history so well explained in a very captivating way. Signage is in Spanish but they gave us English books that translates all signage and was very easy to follow. I could have stayed for a few more hours digesting everything. Closed for lunch from 1-2
Brianna L — Google review
Informative, intetesting, pushing the cocaine agenda, but you can't blame them. Lovely guy gave us some free leaf samples. Took about an hour to read the English booklet they give you.
Samuel E — Google review
Fantastic museum. Jam packed with so much interesting information about the history, spirituality, use, production, politics, and advertising of coca leaves. Excellent manual with complete translation in English. Really enjoyed this incredible tiny museum. I read everything and was there for about two hours.
Navdeep K — Google review
Interesting museum about the history, cultural and political aspects of the coca plant and it's derivatives. Focus is on providing information and education rather than displaying artefacts etc. Displays are mostly photos with texts, in Spanish but a translation booklet is provided to accompany your visit in other languages if needed. Photos prohibited
Mert K — Google review
It's okay. If you really want to learn about the history of coca, you can go, but don't expect any exciting exhibits. They give you a 30-page reader, which takes about an hour to read. There's not much else to it.
Robert — Google review
In my opinion not worth a visit. Heavily biased museum that tries to paint a positive picture of cocaine and it's usage. Some quotes from the brochure really left me shocked on how unreflected they were.
Martin — Google review
Very small museum. Overall fairly interesting and informative, but the majority of the time you are just reading a book about the history of cocaine. The pictures on the wall and the weird manikins do very little to add to the experience. Thankfully it was only 15 Bs. because any more would not be worth it. One of the best parts of the whole time there is the Coca candy they give you which numbs your mouth and wakes you up a bit.
Matthew T — Google review
Small little museum that was interesting in the way of information. They gave out Coca candy and I ended up buying a small bag from family back home to taste. They had plenty of other gifts of coca to buy too. Most items were text or photos that were copyrighted so photos were not permitted. The little hall way up to the museum had vendors. Bathrooms available for free.

Beautiful and well presented museum in the heart of La Paz. The exhibits are a combination of old and modern pieces and explains the history of the region through visual aids very well. The museum is all in Spanish which makes it difficult for someone who doesn’t speak the language to read the texts, but it’s not entirely necessary to understand what is going on. Downloading a translate app with the camera function could be helpful before visiting!
Paul O — Google review
This whole museum was amazing! Well-curated in seven rooms, and it looks like there are plans to expand. The foreigner admission price is cheap compared to museums in the US. It is now Bs$35, and I didn’t see any upcharge for taking pictures (as others have mentioned.) I spent 90 minutes and learned a lot. There were QR code links for more information at many of the exhibits. The entry is in a colonial mansion, and there is a new, modern addition. Neither side was wheelchair-friendly.
John E — Google review
The museum sports an excellent collection of carneval masks, a small but interesting photo collection, a textile collection as well as pottery and coins. The museum is well worth a visit. A downside is, though, that the explanatory texts are exclusively in Spanish. I feel that translating at least some introductory texts into English would render the experience more accessible to foreign tourists as well.

The Witches’ Market (Mercado de las Brujas / Mercado de Hechicería) is located around Calles Linares and Jiménez, near the historic district of La Paz, close to San Francisco Church. It’s run primarily by Aymara women (chifreras / yatiri) who sell items for traditional / spiritual practices (herbs, charms, potions, dried animals, etc.). It was designated as Intangible Cultural Heritage of La Paz partly because it is a living expression of cultural and spiritual traditions.

It’s really just a street lined with tourist shops - I wouldn’t call it much of an attraction. There’s a mixture of mass-produced textile crafts (clothing/bags/…), artisan alpaca-based stores, and some bohemian stores selling cultural items (probably the most interesting aspect of the street).

One of the better-preserved parts of the colonial area of La Paz, Jaen Street retains the old cobbled stones and houses dating back to the 18th century. Many of these houses are now museums, and the street is home to five of La Paz’s most important museums: Museo de Metales Preciosos, Museo del Litoral, Museo Casa de Murillo, and Museo Costumbrista Juan de Vargas. These four museums are included in a single ticket that you can purchase at Museo Costumbrista and start your visit from there. The fifth museum is the Museo de Instrumentos Musicales. This is La Paz’s best preserved colonial street and one of the most touristic destinations in the city. It houses four museums that they are located one next to the other, in fantastic buildings of colonial architecture. One of these museums is the Casa de Murillo, the house of Pedro Domingo Murillo, the leader in the La Paz Revolution of 1809, that was hanged by the conquistadors where is now the Plaza Murillo. The museum displays collections of colonial art, furniture and household items of Bolivian aristocracy. It is also worth visiting the Mamani Mamani Gallery, of the homonym famous Aymaran artist, who's work has been exhibited all over the world and it's well known for his use of indigenous tradition and symbols.

Beautifull views. The road to get there takes long and is a little bit scary sometimes, but we had a good driver. Its absolutely worth a visit and walk on to the mirador. Its about 800 mtrs to walk and 200 more ascend, but the views from the mirador are absolutely magnificent.

Not for skiing, it is abandoned since long ago, when I went there was some snow at the top. I give 5 stars to the trail itself, it was a great experience to go on motorcycle.

Nobody can ski here for many years but it's a wonderful mountain with beautiful views

Great views of the landscape when it's clear. I have been 3 times and the third time was the only time we actually made it to the top. The road is narrow and can be impassable during rainy/snowy season in July.

It used to be the world's highest ski station. Today it is abandoned because the mountain is almost always snow-free due to climate change. It's still a nice place to hike and wonder about the history.

At 5051 meters is a high point of view.... you can see all the mountains around, and a special view of Huayna Potosi summit😊

Amazing view from the top. We can see snowy mountains and colored lagoons. The driving road is a bit scary but it's worth it.

Puma Punku

Archaeological site
Sights & Landmarks
Ruins at a temple site featuring elaborately cut stones with mysterious origins & uses.
Combined with a tour to Tiwanaku. Recently discovered site in the last 12 years. You have to be amazed at the skills of the people who built these sites.

Intriguing ruins with plenty of histories to tell. You can't get much from this place without a guide to explain everything to you. The information about the ruins on the site is poor. However it's interesting to wonder how things were working in the past. This archaeological site is definitely a gem that must be preserved at all costs.

Mind blowing ruins, a must see in Tiwanaku! We walked just a small distance there before going to Tiwanaku, I would suggest doing this much smaller site first as others ran out of time after Puma Punku and it would be a shame to miss these ruins and seeing things like the mysterious H blocks. We walked around the whole flat pyramid structure too, the condition of the blocks and precision of the stone cuts and building is just really impressive. This site is definitely underrated and not talked about enough. A must see while you’re there!

Although I used to BC archaeological sites in other parts of the world, this rather "modern" site is quite amazing, and I highly recommend visiting it. It also could be much, much older than we think...

Great experience. Definitely recommend going with a pre-booked guide otherwise you’ll be lost in understanding all the rich history on site and what is yet undiscovered underground.

Easily spent 3 hours here without a guide. Do your research of the area/history before you go to really appreciate the site. Bring a camera if you have one! Planned to stay the night so we wouldn't have to rush this, the other site and museums all in one day. Noticed tour busses didn't stop here, what a shame!

This is an archaeological site near Tiwanaku and its name means the gate of the Puma. It was built in 6th century AD and its purpose was to be used as a large platform in order to layer above it other type of massive structures, that unfortunately are not saved. Current understanding of this complex is rather limited due to its age, lack of written record, and its deteriorated condition. The blocks are massive in size and weight and it is thought to have been transferred there from lake Titicaca. Another theory suggests that the blocks were man made. The most striking feature is the engineering of the blocks, as they are perfectly linear with precise holes, with the purpose to interlock them like a puzzle.

WOW! This is a must see when in Cusco. It defies expectations.
