Perfect spot to end a 15km walk in the canyon de Colca. Amazing oasis and very tranquil. Plenty of nice hostels ready to welcome you. Many of those also offer the possibility to rent a mule to go up to Cabanaconde

Very peaceful oasis, a tough trek going up but worth the effort
Patrick R — Google review
A bit touristy after visiting quieter areas of the Canyon but the location is spectacular and it feels like an Oasis
Mark R — Google review
This is a very nice lodge at the bottom of the Colca Canyon in Peru, the second deepest canyon in the world (second to a Chinese canyon), and it is more than 2 times as deep as the grand canyon in the US. After a 9 hour hike, it provided a refreshing atmosphere to relax in the swimming pool, take a shower and rest for the 4-hour hike out of the canyon the following day.
Max D — Google review
Beautiful place in the middle of the Colca Canyon, with multiple really nice and cheap lodges (as from 30 soles/night) Dinner and breakfast also available! bring musquito spray because there are a lot of musquitos!
Ben V — Google review
Simple but great place with very nice people and good atmosphere, the food is sometimes a little basic.
Tomi L — Google review
Decent place but lacks the correct facitlies and hopefully is improved. Nice place to look at though
Calum T — Google review
Amazing to cool off after a warm hike. Oases are always amazing and this is no exception! Stayed at Paraiso des Palmeras, recommend

Lookouts
Mirador de San Miguel in Cabanaconde offers spectacular views of the mountain range and the Colca Canyon below, with its villages resembling specks of white dust. It's a starting point for the descent into the canyon and also houses a museum with a replica of the Juanita mummy. The lookout is worth visiting for its breathtaking scenery and potential to become a popular tourist destination.
A starting point for a trekking to San Juan de Chuccho (2.5 hours fast walk) from where you can continue to Sangalle (Oasis) via Coshnirhua and Malata. The whole route took as 5 hours, but we walk quite fast and it's mostly downhill/flat. Almost all guided tours go in this direction with overnight in San Juan de Chuccho or Sangalle. A night in San Juan means lazy first day and quite demanding second, in a Sangalle it's quite equal.
Mariusz R — Google review
Great walk overall. Few things I didn't like, firstly the entrance fee of 70 SOL was very high considering the lack of maintenance of the park. I also thought that at certain points the route was unclear and some people with less intelligence than myself may struggle. The walk was good and I would recommend this trail. My friend Matthew was a weak beta and struggle with the walk.
Calum T — Google review
We drove to this Outlook point after going to the Condor overlook. It's definitely worth a quick stop but I can also understand why most tour buses turn around since nothing will top the overlook.

(Translated by Google) Mirador de San Miguel is the starting point of the dirt tourist trail (marked with paint, which is necessary to avoid getting lost 😅) that leads down to the bottom of the canyon. You cross a bridge to reach the other side, where there are traditional villages. You reach the Sangalle lodgings. From there, you take another trail to climb to the town of Cabanaconde. At Mirador de San Miguel, even if you don't go without a tour guide, there is a local person at the beginning and end of the trail who will ask for your tourist ticket. If you don't have one, you can buy it from them and keep it safe, as they will ask for it at any time. To reach this viewpoint, you can walk from the town of Cabanaconde; it takes about 20 minutes. Before reaching the viewpoint, you will see a recently opened museum.

Mentioned on

Observation deck
Nature & Parks
Mirador Cruz del Cóndor is a picturesque observation deck that offers stunning views of mountains, canyons, and the majestic flight of the Andean condors. Visitors can enjoy a delicious breakfast at the hotel before heading to this viewpoint to witness the fantastic sight of the largest birds in the world soaring through the Colca Canyon. The canyon, often compared to the Grand Canyon, boasts impressive depths and is a must-see natural wonder.
Fabulous overlook full of tourist busses waiting to see condors. Plan on getting there around 8am and plan at least an hour. The condors start rising with the thermals as the sun hits the valley! And they did not disappoint! It was breathtaking to see how big they actually were because they seemed so small down in the canyon, which just shows how deep the canyon is. When some of the condors actually buzzed the crowd it was such a thrill. Well worth the time spent there. We took a tour with Machu Travel Peru which made it easy. There was a very limited ladies room and quite a long line and you need to bring your own paper. But again still well worth it.

One of the best spots in the world to see majestic Andean condors in flight. This scenic viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons on Earth. Early morning is the best time to witness condors soaring on the thermal currents. It’s a must-visit for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone wanting a truly unforgettable experience in the Andes.
Michal R — Google review
A wonderful experience. Get away from the crowds and keep walking the other, quieter view points to the right. When a condor flies over your head you'll be able to hear its wings cutting through the air. It's indescribable.
Eugenio C — Google review
At over 3,200 meters (10,500 feet) deep, Colca Canyon is among the world’s deepest. The sheer scale is overwhelming — especially when you’re perched at one of the lookouts like Cruz del Cóndor, watching condors rise on thermals as the sun lights up the cliffs. Condors the stars of the show. If you're lucky (and most people are), you'll see these massive, majestic birds gliding silently just meters overhead — it’s a moment that gives you chills. The canyon offers incredible multi-day hikes, often starting at Cabanaconde and descending into the canyon to oases like Sangalle, with turquoise pools, palm trees, and rustic lodges. The hike back up is steep and challenging, but the sense of accomplishment — and the views — make it unforgettable.
Andreas N — Google review
It's a very busy, very popular location. Everybody wants to see a Condor in flight. You have to be lucky to get a good vantage spot for photos. Views are awesome, though. If you have patience and don't mind waiting for a good place to take photos, it's worth a visit!
Adam P — Google review
FaceTime is between 8 - 9:30 AM. Had a few condors flying over and one actually went right over our head and landed on a rock, which is beautiful to see. Worth a visit.
Randy N — Google review
You need to get there very early to get the best viewpoints overlooking the Canyon. We waited one hour before the first Condor took flight. Before long there were at least ten Condors soaring above and below us at the same time. We couldn't leave because of the amazing Condors were still soaring directly above and surrounding us. Our Peruvian Guide said he had never seen so many Condors there soaring in the Canyon en-mass.
I C — Google review
We were looking for condors, and condors we got. Full marks! The mirador has an optimal position, but can get very, very crowded. If you manage, try to get an extra hiking tour to get a hit out of the tourists.

Colca Canyon

Lookouts
Colca Canyon, located in southern Peru, is a stunning destination known for its deep and almost 100 km long canyon. It is a popular spot for hiking tours and bird-watching, particularly to observe the majestic condors. The area, including the Colca Canyon and Valley of the Volcanoes, has been considered as an ideal location for a Global Geopark due to its unique geological features.
I was a part of a three-day trekking tour from Arequipa. One can also take one or two day packages. Careful, as the road crosses a pass at 4900m altitude and you can experience altitude sickness, so bring some water with you. The canyon is great, condors fly around, there's greenery everywhere, rivers, avocados (palta!), local villages, and small shops all around. On the final day, the trek starts at 4am, be prepared to get up early. There are multiple passport controls, keep track of your documents at all times
Stefan P — Google review
Off the scale scenery, great hiking and friendly locals. Generally safe to hike alone provided you are physically fit, can navigate and apply a bit of common sense. Finding accommodation was straightforward and the food was good
Mark R — Google review
So beautiful! Lovely to spend a night in the canyon and enjoy the views. Saw condors and beautiful nature
Izzy — Google review
Maybe not the deepest canyon in the world, but for sure the views are spectacular and if you are lucky you might also see some condors “levitate” 😊
Delia G — Google review
Must visit destination. On the one day tour you’ll be in a convoy of vans and barely have time to consider some of the activities offered. And while you have to get up super early you won’t have to sleep at high altitude - trade offs. Do yourself a favour and acclimatize at least 2 days in arequipa before - a few people in our group felt quite sick, diahrea and vomitting when heading towards 4900m.
Jeff K — Google review
Massive landscape. One of the best views I ever had. We walk from the city of Cabanaconde to Lodge Llahuar. Which took us around 6 hours. Take enough food and water with you. Mininum is 2.5L per person. The views are amazing, it feels like you are walking in a beautiful painting every step. You need to pay 70 sol for entrance.
Maurits B — Google review
A must see! Thats one of the most impressive canyon. Watch the condor fly above your head.

Nestled in the charming village of Maca, the Church of Maca, or Iglesia Santa Ana, is a stunning representation of Andean Baroque architecture. This small yet captivating church boasts an intricate interior adorned with gold foil and exquisite carvings that create a visual feast for visitors. While its unassuming whitewashed exterior may not hint at the treasures within, stepping inside reveals a breathtaking display of artistry that reflects the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Impressive church with gold gilded carvings.

Very entrepreneurial villagers !Stopped in this very small village square ,mainly for the toilet! Every small shop has a toilet for ( small fee payable) tourists to use. Pretty little church.

Loved this little village and it’s church! One can really feel the history here!! Mucho gusto!!❤️
Andrei — Google review
An exuberant bling-bling surprise. The small Iglesia Santa Ana in Maca is a fine example of Andean Baroque or Arquitectura Mestiza, a local architectural movement that occurs in the area from Lake Titicaca to Arequipa between 1680 and 1780. Behind the simple whitewashed facade is a baroque festival of statues, altars elaborately decorated with fine carvings, gold(foil) and mirrors hidden. Don't miss this amazing treasure!

Visitors can enjoy a 2-3 hour hike from Yanque, with the option to walk towards the waterfall for a different perspective of the ancient complex. While the trail may not be perfectly maintained, it's worth exploring with proper hiking shoes.
Nice hike from Yanque. In total about 2-3 hours. I recommend walking a but upwards toward the waterfall to see the ancient complex from above.

The Planetarium and Observatory Colca, situated in Chivay, offers a captivating experience for astronomy enthusiasts. With its state-of-the-art planetary dome, visitors can explore celestial wonders such as the moon, sun, planets, galaxies, nebulae, and comets. The observatory provides an educational environment where guests can engage with knowledgeable guides who offer detailed explanations about stars and planets.
Went here on a Sunday evening when it was really quiet and there were no other groups. Very friendly staff, operated by two guys, one who is fluent in English. The firsy telescope showed me the Scorpio constellation and Star cluster of NGC 6231, as well as the Alpha Centauri triple star system. The second telescope showed me the rings of Saturn and surface of the moon. The Moon being out made for less than ideal conditions due to the brightness but it was still well worth it. The guys running it know their stuff and taught me well with a really solid presentation. Highly recommended if stopping by Chivay for a night.

I couldn't be more happier with the experience that just happened to be right outside my hotel (Pozo del Cielo)! Coming from North America it was awesome to see the Southern Cross, Centaur, a circle nebula and more. The guide kept it short, sweet and simple as we checked out the closest star Alpha Centuri to Saturn. You literally walk in, pay at the desk, get a ticket and they even provided blankets since it's their winter so about 0 degrees. All in all about $15USD for a wonderful experience.
Bill D — Google review
A wonderful excursion and evening! Highly recommended if you're in Chivay. We received a clear explanation of the basic principles of the solar system in perfect English. It was explained in such a way that even a non-expert like me could understand it. Thank you, Luiz!
Sander B — Google review
Very nice and knowledgeable host Edgar. He offered us tea and invited us inside. It was cloudy so we had to wait a little, but we got the tour later. He showed us the planet Saturn, the Moon, different stars and astrological signs (Scorpio, Pegasus, Northern Triangle...). As we still haven't seen everything because of the clouds, he lowered the price to 15 soles per person. Normal price is 25 soles per person. You also have to be careful to go at a right hour, as they offer English and Spanish tours depending of the hour. We were unlucky and arrived on a Spanish tour, but it was interesting, because we were still able to communicate somehow!
Jax — Google review
Not at all as good as reviews said. Was overpriced for the experience. We were a group of three and a tour group of twenty-one was also part of our experience. There is light pollution from surrounding buildings and you stand outside for forty minutes, looking up and taking turns looking through a telescope. They really should have chairs or benches to make looking up easier. Did offer blankets for the cold and did have an area with a space heater, but if choose to go there, don’t hear what they are saying about the stars. Was hoping for a better night experience.
Karen E — Google review
I loved visiting this observatory. They are super friendly and happy to tell you everything they know. It was a bit cloudy and they did everything so we were still able to see some stars. They offered blankets as we were cold. I can absolutely recommend visiting this place.
Larissa N — Google review
I would highly recommend this experience! Luis was so passionate and helped explain everything to me. I saw binary stars and star clusters, 3 different coloured stars, Venus, many constellations - including my own zodiac. He got me blankets to help keep me warm, took some amazing photos with the stars and even walked me part of the way home as I was alone. Very genuine guy, with amazing enthusiasm. I had lots of questions as I was new to stargazing and he was more than happy to answer any question no matter how silly. It’s a very unique and special experience everyone should take advantage of when out in the middle of the Peruvian canyons!
Jessica P — Google review
Amazing experience, most definitely a bang for your buck if you're around and enjoy stargazing. The operators are extremely effective and will find a celestial objects in no time so you can see as much as possible. Light pollution maybe becoming a beautiful problem but still is relatively trivial.

Plaza De Armas De Chivay is a small but charming square surrounded by picturesque views of volcanoes and the Church of Lady of the Assumption. Despite its size, it offers a pleasant atmosphere with various dining options and local vendors selling coca leaves and artisanal bread. The plaza provides a cozy setting without large crowds, allowing visitors to savor local cuisine and coffee while soaking in the town's vibes.
Wonderful town square. Just don't order pizza from none of the restaurants around the square. All of the pizzas sucked. Besides that, it is nice to people watch ans take a rest on the benches as Chivay is about 3600 meters above sea level. There is an old last with a 3 alpacas that lets you take pictures for a small tip. Help her out, we saw her buy her alpacas milk and feed them all with a baby bottle. She actually takes care of them.

We wandered through the charming little main square in Chivay—it had such a magical atmosphere. At night, the lighting was beautiful, giving the area a warm and inviting glow. It felt perfect for a relaxed evening stroll or just soaking in the local vibe.

Mirador de los Andes

Mirador de los Andes, located between Arequipa and Colca Canyon, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Andean landscape and five majestic volcanoes. The return journey includes a stop at Mirador de los Volcanes for stunning vistas of surrounding volcanoes and a visit to Bofedales de Tocra, perfect for bird watching. At an altitude of almost 5000 meters above sea level, it provides a unique experience but may pose challenges due to altitude sickness.
About this altitude going by car is worth the experience. It is not common to climb almost 5000 meters above sea level just on the road. So it is good to know how it feels but be aware of some potential problems due the altitude sickness. Anyway, it was a fantastic to view around the Altiplano and see all of the mountains around. Thank you 🌞

A roadside stop with stone plaques showing the volcanoes in the distance. Souvenir sellers and a Spanish information board too. Intriguing are the hundreds of stone cairns travellers have built in the surrounding rocky area.

We visited Mirador de los Andes and were blown away by the panoramic views of the Andes and the Colca Valley below. The viewpoint feels like a natural balcony carved into the mountains, offering a breathtaking sense of vastness. The early morning light painted the peaks in soft gold and pink hues—truly unforgettable. Quiet, peaceful, and awe-inspiring, it’s the ideal spot to pause, take a deep breath, and connect with the majesty of the Andes.

Rugged, high-altitude landscape with multiple volcanoes, renowned for its diverse wildlife.
High altitude plateau with stunning views of surrounding mountains and volcanoes. I saw wild vicuñas and flamingoes! Beware that it was difficult to get there, it took a 1 hour drive through a dusty road with many twists and turns on the edge of a ravine.

Fantastic high altitude lake near Arequipa. We did a tour that included stops to see the 3 big volcanoes surrounding the city, some cuddle time with alpacas and llamas, a stop on the lake bed for pictures and a 4900m geyser and hot spring dip. A great experience and so many alpacas, llamas and wild vicuñas

Joined with a tour company near Arms square, left hotel around 6 am and got here before 10 am. Amazing place to visit although had some altitude sickness, only me, no one else in the group. The guide helped with the flour water, poured to the palms and quickly smell it, works. We had an hour and half to be here. You can have kayak here as well. It has toilets and a few stalls selling stuff, didn't get the chance to have a look. 6 sol to enter.
Shelly — Google review
So beautiful! Worth a visit. Make sure to wear waterproof shoes so you can walk across the salt flats to observe the flamingos more closely, as it is quite muddy. So enjoyable to be in such a scenic place with the abundant wildlife.
Anna Z — Google review
This is a beautiful nacional reserve and I would give it 5 stars for the amazing wildlife. However, it was upsetting to see litter strewn over some parts of it. Here is a message to the agencies looking after this reserve : pick up the litter and put in place some strict deterrents such as fines, to stop people littering.
Beenie — Google review
Beautiful, harsh place. Lots of animals to observe. It is astonishing to imagine people living in this place -- on second thoughts, I'd rather live here than in a Peruvian suburb.
Dennis E — Google review
Beautifull landscape, alpacas, fatastic views of the volcanos, there were stops for refreshments. Altitude varied from about 3000m upto a maximum height of 4910m at the look out view of the Sabayanca Volcano which was puffing out ash.
Tony J — Google review
Incredible place! During the wet season you can spot the pink flamingoes on the Salinas lake, flying against the mountains. There are also vicuñas and llamas grazing by the lake. Depending on the water level you can also walk on great part of the lake perimeter, better to bring a 4x4 if you want to drive on it. The gravel road continues further from this point, but if you want to go behind the stunning Misti Wasi you better be driving a four wheel vehicle with decent ground clearance. Depending on recent rainfall you will probably need to cross a small river at some point. You will also need a permit obtained in Arequipa to use the road past the Aguada Blanca Power Station Gate or you'll need to turn back on your steps! This road is definitely worth it if you have the courage and the spirit for adventure!

Mundo Alpaca is a must-visit museum and boutique in Arequipa, offering a unique experience with llamas and alpacas. Visitors can explore the habitat of these fascinating creatures and learn about their significance through detailed explanations. The museum also features textile exhibits showcasing items made from alpaca wool, providing an opportunity to purchase souvenirs. Additionally, Mundo Alpaca offers free tours of its facility, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the world of alpacas.
We really enjoyed our visit there, the staff was amazing, explained everything and answered every question you might have. It’s really informative and the alpacas & lamas are obviously cute. Its a great way to get to now the industry & traditions and get an idea about how important the lama & alpaca production are for Peru. The shop is nice and offers a variety of alpaca clothing and accessories. So you can get a good idea and feel how real alpaca wool/products feel. The staff there is also really helpful and there is no pressure to buy anything. They are part of the global blue Programm (tax free) We actually went there twice.
Lukas M — Google review
Mundo Alpaca was a pleasant surprise! We learned a lot about the clothing industry that uses Alpaca and Llamas fiber and the way the company - Michell y Cía is doing great work not only in producing clothing but also great work with local communities helping them grow, building schools and creating other social and environment projects. The entrance is free and you can even visit the store and buy some really high quality clothing items.
Madalena — Google review
Make sure you go in on the right hand side not through the shop. Some nice information and a few alpacas but they were in the back two out of three times. The shop has a very extensive selection of 100% alpaca clothes with a wide selection of colours for both men and women. The cafe is a great place to take in the beautiful garden. The fruit smoothie was a little under whelming. Needs more flavour but the chocolate cake which is the only option was good. If you are lucky! You'll see the resident cat asleep in the shop 🐈
Alex C — Google review
Free museum in a beautiful garden with different species of trees. You learn tons about the history of Alpaca breeding through the civilisations, as well as the wool industry. There's a small pen with llamas and alpacas, which you can pet and feed bunches of alfalfa supplied by the friendly staff. The establishment includes an art installation, a café and a store where you can browse baby alpaca & vicuña wool clothing items. A truly lovely experience.

Lovely sanctuary for cameloids. Guide was very knowledgeable. It seems it was a sanctuary for people during Covid. They sell beautiful handmade textiles

Our guide lead us to this place, we were able to feed some alpacas and make amazing pictures. There is a museum attached to it which shares the culture and knowledge of these animals. There is also a shop where you can buy high quality alpaca clothes. But they pricey.
Manuel-Johann ( — Google review
It's a small museum about alpaca, sharing how the alpaca wool is processed, and it's also interesting to feed the alpaca here. No entrance ticket needed.

This is a free place to see some llama and read about them and how they are able to weave it into clothing. It’s a nice place to stop and learn about this process.

Santa Catalina Monastery, located in Arequipa, Peru, is a 16th-century monastery of Dominican nuns that offers guided tours to the public. This historical site was founded as a nunnery in 1580 and continues to function today. The monastery occupies a large area surrounded by imposing stone walls, resembling a fortress. Once restricted from public access, it has become one of the city's most popular tourist attractions and is considered a masterpiece of colonial architecture.
Completely worth the cost of admission. I went here with my wife and 3 year old. They both enjoyed their visit. The site was bigger than most monasteries I have visited in the past. It was packed with fascinating information. It makes a great contrast with other Peruvian religious sites and gives you a fuller picture. One thing to note, it might not be the best place do go if you have a use a wheelchair or a stroller. Take your time when visiting and drink plenty of water.
John C — Google review
A beautiful place, a city within a city. The monastery is in very good condition, and the guides provide professional service in several languages. Regular admission is 45 soles, but on the 10th of each month, it's 15 soles. The only thing is that it's not recommended for wheelchair users or strollers (no ramps available)
Fernando N — Google review
An amazing citadel, so well preserved and maintained it's unreal. Sometimes I had to remind myself I was not inside a replica at some amusement park but in a real monastery that's full of history. Entrance is S/45, then for an extra S/10 you can get a one-hour guided tour. We did just that and had the amazing Diana all to ourselves. Otherwise you can scan the QR codes along the way and read the information for free. One of my best historical site visits ever!
Eugenio C — Google review
Visiting the Santa Catalina Monastery is like stepping back in time. The colorful walls, quiet courtyards, and narrow streets create a peaceful atmosphere that feels worlds away from the city. Every corner tells a story, and the mix of history, art, and architecture makes it a truly unique experience. A must-see place if you visit Arequipa — perfect for wandering, taking photos, and enjoying a calm moment surrounded by beauty and history. 🌺📸

Possibly the hughlight of my visit to Arequipa. I was blown away by the scale of the place, the stories shared on the info panels (in both EN and ES), and learning more about cloisters (who knew the sisters had spousal love for Jesus?) A must visit, just make sure you set aside a good amount of time if you wish to visit every open cell.
Ken T — Google review
45 soles per person to enter. Although I found this to be quite pricey the Convent had plenty of information and we actually spent a few hours here as there was so much to learn about. You can pay 10 soles for a tour guide per person or download their app for free which explains each room. It really was fascinating and worth the visit here.
Kara H — Google review
A very beautiful and very old monastery that gives you an interesting view of the life of the nuns. Many of the old cells seem like the nun living in it might rewritten any minute. The fruit garden was one of my favorite places in the vast, colorful and beautifully decorated edifice. There is free wifi and a guide you can download if you don't want to take a tour guide which you'd have to pay extra.
Enrico D — Google review
Go on Tuesday or Wednesday evening to see the ancient lamps and fireplaces lit. It’s open till 8:30pm Tuesday and Wednesday to give a better idea of what it was like to live there in centuries past. Beautiful and well conserved nunnery established in 1579 but most of the buildings are from the 1800s because earlier constructions didn’t withstand Arequipa’s earthquakes. I highly recommend hiring one of the guides at the entrance because they are very knowledgeable and there aren’t enough panels and plaques that explain all the history. Panels are all in Spanish and English but the guides speak many more languages. I heard guides speaking French, German & Italian. Part of the entrance fee supports the current nuns who live in part of the nunnery. There is a café & gift shop of things made by the nuns and purchases support them.

It houses over 300 works of art, including paintings, porcelain, and liturgical items from the 16th and 17th centuries. The museum also features peaceful gardens, an ornate sanctuary, and offers guided tours for a better understanding of its history.
One of the best museums in Arequipa. The beautiful grounds, gardens, architecture and art pieces are amazing. Most of the exhibits have descriptions in both Spanish and English and there is an English audio tour available via one’s cell phone. The entrance fee is 20 soles with additional discounts for seniors and students. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the facility is well maintained.

A must when you visit Arequipa! A fourth of the monastery can be visited, 12 nuns live in the other 3/4 of the monastery. We recommend you take a guided tour. The entrance is 20 soles per person and an extra 20 soles for the guide, totally worth it. The cloister area was perfect to enjoy the cookies we bought from the nuns before going into the museum. Gracias Diana for the amazing tour!

With the guide you get a better understanding of the history of the monestary.

It's just one big claustro to visit with many rooms and great pieces exposed. You'll get to see the church from two exclusive point of views (the one of the sisters living in the Covent. It's definitely not santa Catalina, but for 20 soles (+10 for the guide for your group) you will not regret it !

Visitors can also enjoy stunning rooftop views of Arequipa and its distinctive sillar buildings.
Very good tour. Can tell the guide really loved her job, tip at the end. Tour was full of information and history about the church and city. So many parts of the church and artifacts inside came from all over the world. The devil pulpit was the most interesting I think. They don't know how much the gold and silver pieces are worth, and that's the area where no photos are allowed. The tour took a bit over 1 hour and guide spoke very good English and Spanish. Tours every 10 minutes or so. As someone who's not religious, this was the most interesting church visit I've done yet.

Great idea to do if you are in Arequipa. General overview: Center of the city. Gives you a view of the cathedral when it’s closed to the public. So less people. A tour around the museum looking at old religious bits. Fairly interesting The history of the earthquake that meant they had to rebuild some of the church. Rooftop view of the city and the 3 volcanos. Practical bits: Cash only tickets 10sol per person Also strong recommended that you pay the guide - others have said 5 sol. We have 5USD for two, as we did not have any sol at the time. (they make a bit of a point about saying they are not paid, and rely on tips) If you get a good guide, which we did, and just 4 of us in the group. Really good tour. Recommended even just for the roof top views!

Worth visiting. Ticket comes with an inhouse guide. Museum entrance is at the left. The museum includes access to tje church interior, roofdeck, and belltowers. No picture taking of the church's gold and silver collections at the galleries. The exit will lead you at the back lined with different cafes and dinning options.

Has a beautiful ornate double courtyard being used as commercial and dinning place.

This beautiful barroque church from the early 17th century is totally worth visiting. We visited in early May between 3:15-3:45pm and the light made the place even more magical!

Main façade of the church of the company of Jesus of baroque mestizo style - stone material from Misti volcano - plaza de armas Arequipa (1590-1618)

Start the visit with the adjacent cloister and finish with the basilica. It is part of the Unesco patrimony. It's construction started in 1590 and took about a century to be completed. As Arequipa is in a seismic zone with frequent earthquakes, the basilica had to follow a special design with robust arched vaults and small windows.

The Company has stores and cafés, you can take a ride and shopping . A nice place

Nice church, free entrance. Next to the main square so is worth it to pay a visit

The facade is intricately carved and the interior is filled with baroque details. Don't miss the small side chapel with its colorful wall paintings. It's definitely worth the small entrance fee.

We didn’t see a great deal of this church. There is a cloister which is given over to retail an d food, then an entrance room with a magnificent carved wooden dome. It would be better if you could also visit the Church itself, which we were unable to do.

Sights & Landmarks
Church of the Company, also known as Iglesia de la Compania, is a small baroque church located in the historic center of Arequipa. This monument is considered one of the most splendid creations of Peruvian Baroque and a starting point for the regional art. The elaborate carved facade features reliefs of animals, plants, and Christian figures. Inside, visitors can admire an interior chapel adorned with jungle motifs and an exaggerated baroque altar.

The Museo Santuarios Andinos, located in Arequipa, is a significant museum that houses the frozen mummy of 'Juanita,' an Incan princess who was sacrificed in the 1500s. The museum, which is part of the Universidad Catolica de Santa Maria, features around nineteen Inca mummies and various archaeological artifacts.
Don't be put off by the other reviews! We saw interesting artefacts, we weren't rushed, the lady who gave English tour was pleasant and the tip was only mentioned at the end. The fact that the 'mummy' is a real life replica is a good thing imo...I don't enjoy seeing real human dead bodies!

Infos/Tips: - It is clearly forbidden to take pictures inside the museum - It cost 25 SOL (without guide tip) - When buying a ticket, you will be assigned to a specific hour and a group (Spanish, English or French) - You CANNOT visit the museum without a guide - The visit of the museum take approximately 1 hours (You have the guided tour for 45 to 50 minutes) and then there is another room you can do at your own pace without a guide The Museo Santuarios Andinos is most famous for housing the well-preserved mummy of “Juanita,” also known as the “Ice Maiden,” an Inca girl who was sacrificed around 500 years ago on the summit of Mount Ampato. The museum provides a fascinating insight into Inca rituals, beliefs, and the scientific discoveries related to the mummy, as well as a few others

Just completed the guided tour of Museo Santuarios Andinos. As others have noted, the guide is mandatory. Entrance fee is 25 soles plus tip. Photography is not allowed. I had a private French-language tour since I was the only participant. The museum was crowded, so we explored rooms out of order when space became available. The guide rushed through the exhibition without allowing time for independent exploration. The entire tour lasted only 20 minutes. While the exhibition is interesting, I found limited value beyond what's readily available online (like the Wikipedia article on Mummy Juanita). I understand why the actual mummy isn't displayed for preservation reasons, but paying 30 soles (25 + 5 tip) for pottery, dolls, and textiles felt excessive. I'm disappointed and feel robbed. In my opinion, not worth the cost for what's offered.

Some of the most interesting artifacts I saw in Peru. The main exhibit is no longer exhibited to ensure its preservation, fair enough. However, the museum is very small. 25 soles + guide tip is obscene for such a tiny museum. Even in Europe, £5 would be overpriced for that. The mandatory guide told us some interesting things but the delivery was very flat and provided no better value than if they had put in signs. No photos, presumably because it's owned by a catholic uni.

As mentioned, the guide is mandatory. Entrance fee is 25 soles plus tip. Our guide did not rush and left time for questions but we would have preferred to read the signs. The entire tour lasted only 20 minutes. The spiel did seem to gloss over what was effectively quite a brutal (I appreciate by modern standards) child murder and frame it as a privilege. But I guess that’s a matter of personal taste. I am quoting another reviewer below because I agree 100% with them. The entrance fee is 25 soles, and it’s mandatory to visit the museum with a guide. However, the guide is not included in the ticket price, you have to pay extra, which makes no sense if it’s a required part of the visit. The tour goes at the guide’s pace and in the order they choose, so you can’t really take your time to read or explore everything. The famous “Juanita” mummy is actually just a copy, and even though it’s not the real one, they still keep it inside a sort of freezer — which also doesn’t make much sense. Overall, it’s not worth it and feels like a robbery.

N.B. We didn’t actually visit - just wanted to say as we found it difficult to see from the website - a tour is mandatory (free; you pay the guide what you think at the end), you cannot visit and walk around alone. The tours are group tours, in different languages several times a day. I couldn’t see a way to book tickets or view the times in advance online. Also, I had read that Juanita is not displayed for a few months of the year as she has to be preserved. I can’t remember the period but I am certain it wasn’t for September. However when we got there we were told she wasn’t on display. For these reasons I believe it is best to go there in the morning and see what times are on offer for you to visit, and whether Juanita is on display, then you can plan your day.

I waited 15 minutes for the next tour. The guide was very nice and provided a lot of information during the museum tour. Unfortunately, ‘Juanita’ was not there, only a model, but that was fine too.

Very chill place to hang out on the weekends. Under the week is not much to do. And it's a bit pricey but it's okay

It was an interesting old mill. I went with my wife and 3 year old. They both had a good time. It's not very big so we did the loop twice. I wouldn't call it a must see but it is nice place to visit.
John C — Google review
Overpriced for the limited experience. Nice place for some pictures and a working watermill, but no real explenation of the whole process so it was of little added value. You can also see a few domesticated animals but that's it.
Linck C — Google review
The mill itself is okay but really nothing special given that it takes only 5 minutes maximum to see what is inside. However, was was really terrible was seeing the state of the animals. The enclosures are far far too small for the animals and incredibly dirty with feces covering the entire floor and flies absolutely everywhere, it was honestly awful. One of the birds kept in the cage looked in a particularly sad state as it had a bad leg and couldn’t even get up. Our family left feeling very sad at this and have left with a very poor impression of this apparent tourist attraction. We do not recommend.

The grounds are so well kept. The mill was impressive You can see the piwer of water at its best. Seen the llamas, the alpacas ,the old retire fighting bull and the ducks was a nice extra .

A beautify and tranquil place with nice views, and animals you can pet and feed. A real medieval water mill!

Beautiful place with a cool mill, cute restaurant, simple but fun/inexpensive horse back riding, and alpacas to take pictures with. :)
