Chile Safari Park

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Animal park & zoo with safari rides, a zip line, a video game arcade & a restaurant.
Great family day trip from Santiago. Kids loved the different safari rides. Safaris carry an additional fee. Food available.
Kathrin Y — Google review
I was excited to visit this place. Usually parks out of the city have more space for the animals and care well for them. This is a classic example of animal exploitation. Small enclosures, stinking of feces. Lone animals looking sad and pacing. This place should be shut down, and don’t get me started on the plastic animatronics and broken items and games. The place is a giant smelly mud puddle.
John A — Google review
Great to see so many rescued animals being well cared of and having such a close encounter with them. Employees were well educated in all aspects in knowledge of the Safari Park and very friendly. To make things better, the food at the Restaurant was great. Will visit again. Thank you! Carlos and Elisabeth, New Jersey, USA
Elisabeth G — Google review
It looks like an 18 century zoo, the animals are in small and dirty cages, they looked stresses.
Felipe G — Google review
Great place for a nice safari ! Was able to feed the herbivores and got really close to the lion ! Animals seem to be really taken care of :)
Marcelo — Google review
We came very late, but it was a lot of fun and I recommend it. Some exhibits were closed unfortunately, but still worth it.
Gonzalo V — Google review
An awesome experience to have with your family. The entire park is good, but for sure the best part is the feline safari.
Gabriel V — Google review
Amazing experience. This is our second visit and it won’t be our last. The only issue, which wasn’t the fault of the Safari Rancagua, was the excessive loud music coming from off the property between 1 am and 6 am. No sleep for us but we still enjoyed the accommodations and being close to all the animals.

La Sal Pichilemu

Mentioned on

$$$$expensive
Restaurant
La Sal Pichilemu is a restaurant located on the coast with a beautiful ocean view. While some may find the prices not entirely justified by the quality, it offers vegan options and a delightful vegan walnut dessert ice cream. The location is truly special, offering an unparalleled dining experience right by the water. Although service might be slow at times, the food is described as superb and bursting with flavor. Guests have enjoyed dishes like Pisco Sour and fish of the day while taking in the amazing view.
This was our second visit in 2 days, and we're surprised the ratings aren't >4.5 stars. It starts with the friendly welcome from Pamela, followed by great views and ambiance. Next comes the friendly servers followed by yummy Pisco Sours while waiting for the delicious offerings (Ceviche, Tuna, Tempura Peruana). The chocolate volcano dessert should not be missed, and be sure to grab a free bag of salt on the way out. Thank you for the great memories
Chris R — Google review
Wonderful ceviche and seafood dishes served on a patio overlooking a rocky seaside. The waves crash onto the rocks just 20 meters from your table. It’s a gem of a restaurant with excellent service. They also have takeaway ice cream and some local clothing for sale.
Andy T — Google review
This is a special place. Some venues claim they are right on the water but here, you are *right* on the water We were lucky enough to score the best table, right on the water overlooking the waves while the sun shone on our last day in Chile. Sure, the service wasn't the quickest and staff were a bit indifferent to us and our needs, but we didn't have issues getting drinks or our food. The dishes were just superb as well. Juicy, tasty and overflowing with flavour. Enjoyed every bite of our Ceviche, grilled octopus and sesame tuna. Cocktails were bang on and the wine list hit the mark in every way. Yes, we even had a fantastic rose in Chile! Not sure why so much hate in here as we loved it. An outstanding lunch and we'd go again in a heartbeat. 👍
Beau U — Google review
It's a beautiful place with a very nice view. However, the host on the day of our reservation was nothing but rude when we arrived. Worst, despite the fact I made the reservation a week in advance they didn't have it and when I tried to show the confirmation from my email the person did nothing but ignore my attempt to show it on my phone. It was very uncomfortable but at least we got a table. Apart from this, our waitress was very nice and made an effort to make us feel welcome. The food was ok.
Allison G — Google review
La Sal is a restaurant that impresses on many levels, particularly with its picturesque seafront setting. It provides stunning views of the Pacific, offering guests the opportunity to enjoy delicious food by the sea in a laid-back atmosphere with excellent service. They use fresh ingredients, serve generous portions (cooked to perfection), and offer a small yet outstanding selection of drinks. However, I would rate it 4 stars due to the excessive prices, especially considering the use of locally sourced ingredients. Apart from that, a visit to La Sal is highly recommended for a delicious seafood experience.
Matias W — Google review
I had really high expectations for this restaurant after hearing so many good things from others. Unfortunately, it did not match the hype. There was nothing special about anything we ate, and more than half of the menu was unavailable. For the prices they charge I would have hoped for something more notable or different. The service was also poor, their staff is in dire need of training. Nice view though...
Amelia P — Google review
They might have taken a little too long to get our drinks, but it was totally worth it. Pisco Sour was great, as was the fish of the day. Friendly servers, I’ll definitely will come back for more!
Alex J — Google review
Great ocean view and good fish, just don't go for dinner or order cocktails... It's unfortunate that such a lovely venue with a clearly talented chef would diminish the dining experience by moments of poor service. 1. The cocktails were pre-mixed and not great. Our Old Fashion came with already melted ice, and the Pisco Sour was clearly pre-mixed. Why not have a savvy bartender at a place that purports to be fine dining? 2. The hours indicate being open until 11pm on a Sat night; however, by 10pm the staff was clearly ready to shut down, and we felt rushed to leave. We had to ask two servers not to take away our plates when there was still food on them, but worst of all, for the latter part of our meal we were disrupted by clanking of dishes, moving of tables, and even the repositioning of the outdoor heater right in front of our indoor table (see photo). We've been there for lunch / afternoon, and it's really pleasant; however, I would never go back for dinner.

Colchagua Museum

Specialty Museums
The Colchagua Museum, inaugurated in 1995, is a charming complex dedicated to preserving and promoting Chile's cultural heritage. Privately owned by Don Carlos Cardoen, it showcases exhibits on Chilean natural history, pre-Columbian art, and culture. The museum offers a brief introduction to the earth's origins and delves into the history of southern American cultures that once inhabited Chilean lands. Visitors can explore different periods of Chilean history through an extensive collection of artifacts.
Excellent museum. 10 minute video to start in english or Spanish. Sadly their exhibits are all in spanish. Wonderful collection maybe a bit eclectic. Well worth the entrance, well lite displays.
Barefoot M — Google review
Absolutely stunning. An unbelievably extensive collection of fascinating objects, beautifully displayed and clearly very well taken care of. I questioned why the ticket covers 24 hours but after the museum I agree that there is too much to really see for one day! I go to a lot of museums but this has to be my all time favourite. I really enjoyed seeing the early marking machinery and the early tank. There is also a wide gauge steam loco with beautifully preserved rolling stock. A real joy to visit.
Nicola M — Google review
Indeed a very interesting museum and well worth your time and money! They have a collection on basically everything, from fossils to ancient ages to conquistadors and the modern age. Impressive set of artefacts and stories, you could spend more than a day there. I really do recommend. And they have a nice, safe, free parking just in front 😀
Irenej K — Google review
One of the best museums I've visited. Be aware that most of the signs aren't in English but I just translated with Google lens. I went back twice as the ticket allows 24hr entry.
Joe — Google review
Unmissable collection of thousand of well curated pieces of Chilean and universal history, your ticket is 24 hrs long so you can comeback to see every item
Andres C — Google review
Without any doubt, the Colchagua museum is a must while in Santa Cruz if you like museums, of course, it has a brief introduction on how earth started, main ages from the paleozoic era l till our days, and it gets more detail in the southern American cultures, getting more detailed towards the ones who occupied the actual Chilean land, most of then sadly extinguished by the colonization process, who is also depicted, as well as the different periods of the Chilean history to finally ends with the Colchagua valley and its huasos, in brief, is a history tell as a funnel converging in this territory. It also has an industrialization area, mainly represented by late XIX and early XX centuries, beautiful machines, definitely lovely and also liked it very much a huge collection of amber with lot of bugs and plants captured within, you have the help of augmented lens to see them through the light. Sounds good, right? It is indeed, the only missing star is because some info is not totally accurate and most because there's no written info in other language than Spanish, that's all.
Eric S — Google review
Excellent, excellent museum covering the whole history of Chile from prehistory up until the present, with especially impressive collections of precolumbian art, jewelry and tapestry. It's a private collection of impressive scale and quality. There are also fascinating exhibits on weapons, carriages and even the Chilean miner rescue of 2010. My whole family loved this museum
Ben C — Google review
This museum is huge, i didn't think I'd spent this much time there but it was definitely needed. You'll end up going through a lot of history of Chile, from the oldest to recent stuff. The collection of items and artefacts us to be seen, be ready to spend hours wandering around. The building itself is a piece of history being a reconstruction after the previous building was torn down by an earthquake

Viña Viu Manent is a historic Chilean winery and tasting room that dates back to the mid-19th century, boasting vines originally brought from France. The Food&Wine Studio at Viu Manent offers a unique dining experience showcasing the best of Chilean gastronomy with innovative dishes made from fresh, local ingredients. Visitors can enjoy carriage tours and tastings led by knowledgeable guides like Roberto, as well as e-bike tours with guides such as Isabel during harvest time.
Viu was a very beautiful experience. Good wines. We took the tour, it was ok. We took the carriage with the horses. We try the wines in a beautiful room. I really recommend this winery in your visit in Santa Cruz. A little too big and touristic though.
Cristóbal Q — Google review
We booked the carriage tour of vineyard (which they happily reorganised for us due to weather) and was really impressed with our guide Bastian, who was very charming and knowledgeable. The surroundings and scenery are spectacular with stables and horses grasing in the paddocks. The tasting was of high quality and the talk on history of vineyard very interesting.
David T — Google review
Good experience. Awesome wine. Best Malbec in Chile
Daniel L — Google review
The most beautiful vineyard we visited while in the region. We had an incredible tour guide while on the horse drawn carriage tour, and it was a wonderful experience tasting several wines. Every person we talked to here was so kind and willing to answer all of our questions. I could’ve spent much more time exploring the grounds and drinking the delightful wine!
Greta H — Google review
Beautiful place where you really find peace and passion for wine. Beautiful facility, would have loved to come with more time to enjoy a meal at the restaurant. Enjoyed the tour and the wine sampling was exceptional.
Jorge G — Google review
Had a great morning on the e-bike tour plus wine tasting with Isabel. It was just the 2 of us, so a very personal tour, and it was also harvest time, which made it more special. Isabel is a great guide, very knowledgeable, made us feel very welcome and speaks very good English. After a gentle pedal around the picturesque vineyards, we then tasted some very good wines with snacks in part of the lovely buildings. I highly recommend a visit to Viu Manent.
Trevor C — Google review
Great winery. Spectacular tour, you may see the vineyards while a short trip in a carriage pulled by beautiful horses. At the end, you can visit the family cellar, and if you are lucky you may keep one of the wines of the tasting. We choose the iconic Incidente ;)
Pedro G — Google review
We took the premium tour that includes a ride in a horse drawn carriage. The tour was fun and very informative. The tasting at the end of the tour was very generous and gave plenty of time to enjoy their excellent wines.

LAS LEÑAS

Ski club
Outdoor Activities
Ski & Snowboard Areas
Lessons, rentals & on-mountain restaurants are offered at this scenic ski resort with hotel options.
Amazing place to visit. but look for weather forecast before going
Nazmul N — Google review
Las Leñas is well known for their après time vibes, a few challenging runs and the best off piste terrain in Argentina. And, of course, being the only true ski in / ski out resort down here. And boy … do they know that and maker that. As mentioned it’s THE place if you enjoy off piste… the actual runs are average, not that challenging leaving aside Marte zone where you can’t get some fun advanced terrain. They have a respectable beginners area for Argentina standards and adding they hotel / bars / restaurant offer right at the base, a place to be enjoyed by skiers of all levels. It does gets terribly packed in the heavy season, not a lot of lifts makes that experience not that enjoyable so it would be wise to try to avoid July … but their snow in the last few years was scarce at best … so trip down when you have to!
Paulo P — Google review
2025 - there is a ton of snow and only one side of the mountain is open, about a quarter of the lifts / pistes are open, no explanation as to why, falsely advertised. A real shame as in the past have had a great time, reasonably small resort but beautiful, possible to stay v close to the lifts and fun apres-ski etc
Joseph T — Google review
Great tracks, and great snow most of the season. Off tracks are easy to find and also really fun. Views are excellent too. Problems are the snow by mid August, and the lifts are the slowest you'll ever encounter.
Lucas C — Google review
Perched in the amazing peaks of the Argentine Andes this is a small ski resort by European standards but the piste skiing is great as long as the Marte lift is open (maybe 50% of the time). The lifts are old and slow
Alex C — Google review
I have my own disagreement on how to rate this. As a “ski resort” I rate it below average (3 stars is average), comparing it to other major sky resorts of Argentina. As a “Mountain to sky” I can extend to to 4 points, with many good runs and nice snow. So let’s see why 2 stars: 1. poor poor poor poor infrastructure... been here 20 years ago, and it seems all the same. One day did spend an unreasonable time doing lines for the lifts (meaning that in all ski resorts you will do reasonable lines). 2. Ski rentals offer is poor, leading the companies to charge you whatever they want, since there is no competition. 3. Very small places to eat at the mountains , one better than the other, still not at the quality you expect for the money you pay 4. Not good airport communication, so you pay a lot of extra money if you do not have a package 5. Since is just that, a ski resort far away from cities, you have to just relax and be prepared to charge you expensive prices to eat or drink. I’m sorry is not as good as its marketing Makes it look like.
Milton S — Google review
Enjoining autumn in Las Leñas. It's a peaceful place for relaxing before the ski season.
Charly P — Google review
This place lacks reviews in English so here goes mine. The place itself is just for skiing and snowboarding, the village does not offer anything else so I don't really recommend bringing children. The main advantage and difference between this resort and others in argentina is that the hotels are right in front of the lifts. The food here is quite expensive unless your money exchange rate is good enough which i doubt. The mountain itself is pretty good, nice open roads and good lifts, my only complain is the long wait while you're on the lift, for example, getting to the top of the mountain is basically an hour of lifts but the experience of going down is quite unique. Off Piste is a big part of this resort and advanced skiers can take advantage of this (the resort offers guides which is quite nice when you don't know the mountain). Overall, if you come to ski and only ski this is the place for you.

Parque Nacional Radal Siete Tazas

National park
Nature & Parks
Parque Nacional Radal Siete Tazas is a stunning national park renowned for its breathtaking waterfalls, serene campgrounds, and picturesque hiking trails nestled within lush forests. While the beauty of the park is undeniable, visitors should be aware that purchasing tickets online in advance is essential due to limited on-site availability. It's also important to note that some trails may be closed due to recent floods and landslides, so checking current conditions beforehand can save you disappointment.
A nice small national park. Only two hiking trails are open right now and the I think the fee is too high for foreigners.
C N — Google review
In this time , mid March it’s very dry . You only see 3-4 cups, pools and water falls . The trail is easy but dusty . Good thing is now there are very few people. Go further up the road to Parque Englais for swimming in Rio Claro. 3 km further VERY cold but refreshing . Be sure to buy tix online and in advance for the Tazas , all else not needed
Aaron Z — Google review
Beautiful natural para near to Talca and Santiago. Many people comes for cycling and trecking or simply to enjoy the view.
Erneski C — Google review
Beautiful place! They are still getting use with the new system of buying tickets online so it took some extra time to get it. People working there were kind and even lend their phone to us. The place in itself is of easy access (the road could be much better - but when you make to the park is good).
Carolina V — Google review
The park is beautiful, the waterfalls spectacular. Signage and trail information could be improved, a paper map, for example. The bathrooms were lacking soap and other supplies.
John S — Google review
I find it quite hard to rate this place. It's quite beautiful as mentioned by the other reviews. But it's best to buy your tickets in advance online as it's quite hard to do it in place and you cannot buy them there. Also, do not trust the information that is given on the site about the park, it stated that all trails were open but sadly most of them were closed because of floods and landslides. Okay these are extreme circumstances but sadly we wished they told us in advance. If you pass somewhere in the neighbourhood some other tourists, ask them what is going on atm!! We were able to dip in the water (freezing) and see some nice views. Enjoyable in general!
Josefien T — Google review
The 7 tazas was the Most disappointing place. no great views, no possibility to swim eventhough it is promoted online. Not worth the entrance! The park itself is very nice, you have different options to hike.
Sophie M — Google review
All the information on the Internet about how to get to this park is incorrect! There are no buses from Molina. I bought a ticket for the park, went to Molina early in the morning from Curico and then the locals said there are no buses and I must pay for a taxi to get there. No! You waste my time, energy and money. For the rest of my travels in Chile I will only visit cities because I do not trust the information from locals, lonely planet or the Internet!

Nestled a few hundred miles south of Santiago, the Nevados de Chillán is an enchanting destination that boasts stunning snow-covered peaks and a variety of outdoor activities. This active volcanic region not only offers fantastic skiing opportunities but also features rejuvenating hot springs at the base of the Chillán Volcano, perfect for unwinding after a day on the slopes. The breathtaking terrain provides sweeping mountain views, making it an ideal spot for both winter sports enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
I love this mountain I came from America and it was absolutely breathtaking the trails are wonderful and the staff was nice (even though I spoke no Spanish) 100 out of 100.

Amazing terrain with sweeping views of the mountains. Unfortunately it hadn’t snowed in a while so I stuck to the groomers. Would love to come back for a powder day! Lifts were rickety and slow. The boletería was also very slow and we were misinformed and overcharged for a day pass in certain circumstances. The local pro tip was to buy your passes ahead online to save some time and money. Despite that, what an amazing place to ski!
Ro D — Google review
Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience over there. The information available was very little and chaotic. It seems to me like everything was designed to take as much money as they can from you. We bought the wrong pass, and they didn't have the will to change it or refund it. We just lost our time and money and didn't have the opportunity to enjoy that beautiful mountain.
Eyleen P — Google review
Good location with horrible operator. Be aware that on top of the lifts themselves being operated by inexperienced personnel, different areas of the resort are also run by different operators. Different parking lots within the mountain are run by different operators and you will have to pay full day parking twice if you have to pick up somebody at another location within the resort. Restaurants are also concessions and the customer service department will not respond if there are any issues, they will just reply “it is your problem for switching parking lots” or “it is not our problem, they are different companies”..etc. Not a place to spend all your money and enjoy a peaceful vacation I must say.

We went here off the skiing season, and it was very beautiful. No tourists, not a lot of people in general. Did some nice hiking and went to a mountain lake. Nothing much happening off season though.

(Translated by Google) Quite a crowded place on holidays, with limited parking. It would be great if they'd set up a pedestrian crossing where pedestrians wouldn't occupy the roadway and wouldn't try to park below in the parking spaces where they don't charge. There's no culture or order, and people even block the road without caring about others.

Impressive experience. The mine is very interesting to visit and the insight stories fascinating to hear. Bring good shoes because it is a bit muddy and wet in the mine. Necessary to climb lots of stairs and to duck in narrow spaces (~1m height)
Florian F — Google review
For foreign visitors like me, please give this a thumbs up so more people can see this information. I gave it two stars mainly because the service was terrible. My Chilean companion checked the website in Spanish to know the opening hours. However, after traveling all the way from Concepcion by minibus and walking a lot, the ticket office told us they don't open to the public on weekdays (this was Wednesday) and we had to wait until 1 pm to see if the tour group or school group would let us join. We considered waiting, but the ticket was expensive (12,000 or 15,000 CLP, can't remember exactly), and they only accept local Chilean bank transfers—not even cash. Not sure how even local elderly people can buy ticket! The ticket office's attitude really put us off, so we decided to explore the free area and learn a bit about the miners' history and living conditions before leaving. It was a real disappointment because I was looking forward to it. I also understood they have a footwear requirement, and many previous comments mentioned the ride to the mine is mostly a talk about the past in Spanish while wearing a helmet underground. This place has so much potential. Knowing the history of how the Cousiño family exploited the workers (they were paid in coupons to exchange for food, with no labor protection or money) and how the miners' women and children lived in constant fear and poverty is crucial. Even without an English website, they could inform people that public visits are only available on weekends and allow people to book in advance. We gave up waiting until 1:00 pm (or 4:00 pm, which was the next possible slot) and took a shared cab back to Lota city center to visit the park and the museum. The shared cab cost around 560-600 CLP per person—definitely worth it, trust me.

It is a non- working coal mine that is open to the public. We did not take the tour into the mine because you walk down (and up) stairs to the bottom. We walked on top and saw the movie set of a movie called Subterra (Underground in English). All very cool. Es una mina de carbon que ya no funciona como tal. No tomamos el Tour porque hay que bajar y subir muchas escaleras. Arriba está el set de la película Subterra. Todo bien interesante.

Fantastic trip, as the sign at the mine mouth says, "into the guts of the Earth". Our guide Daniel was a miner in this same mine for 20 years (after his father and grandfather and all uncles and brothers), and his knowledge was unmatched. Totally recommended!

Totally worth stopping by, especially if you enjoy history and exploration. They even accommodated are one and a half year old daughter. They take you on a 45 to 60 Minute tour of the underground cave. Understanding Spanish is a must

Agrio Waterfall is a breathtaking testament to the raw beauty and power of nature, making it an essential stop for anyone exploring Argentina. Nestled in a stunning landscape, this majestic waterfall offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the soothing sounds of cascading water and the vibrant energy that seems to lift your spirits. The experience is enhanced by the sight of condors soaring overhead, adding to the magical atmosphere.
Lovely waterfall within a stunning landscape. It was windy, very windy and only 4 cars together with me
MiBa ( — Google review
Salto del Agrio Waterfall – A Hidden Gem in Argentina's Patagonia Salto del Agrio Waterfall, located near the town of Caviahue in the Neuquén Province of Argentina, is one of the most stunning yet lesser-known natural wonders in the Patagonian region. Nestled within a dramatic volcanic landscape and surrounded by the Andes mountains, this powerful waterfall offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and photographers alike. The waterfall itself is approximately 60 meters (197 feet) high and plunges into a circular basalt basin surrounded by colorful volcanic rock formations. What makes Salto del Agrio especially unique is the vivid contrast of colors that appear around the falls. The minerals in the volcanic rock create streaks of red, orange, and yellow on the surrounding cliffs, giving the entire area an almost surreal appearance. This explosion of colors, combined with the emerald green waters of the Agrio River, makes it a truly spectacular sight. Reaching Salto del Agrio is part of the adventure. The waterfall is about 15 km from Caviahue and is accessible via a dirt road that winds through beautiful Andean scenery. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended during wetter seasons due to muddy patches and uneven terrain, although during the dry months, most vehicles can make the trip. The drive itself is a highlight, with panoramic views of the Lonquimay volcano and the high-altitude Patagonian forest. Along the route, one may also encounter araucaria (monkey puzzle) trees, a signature of the region, some of which are hundreds of years old. Once at the waterfall, visitors can walk along several natural trails that provide different viewpoints. The most popular lookout point offers a full frontal view of the waterfall as it crashes into the basalt bowl below. There are also paths that lead closer to the top or allow you to peer into the gorge, although caution is advised due to steep edges and loose rocks. Salto del Agrio is ideal for a short day trip from Caviahue and can easily be combined with other nearby attractions, such as the Copahue hot springs or the Caviahue ski resort during winter. The area remains relatively uncrowded throughout the year, giving visitors a chance to enjoy the majestic beauty in peace and solitude. This waterfall is not just a scenic stop but a testament to the raw and untouched beauty of northern Patagonia. If you’re exploring Neuquén or planning a route through the Andes, Salto del Agrio deserves a prominent spot on your itinerary. It is a place where geological wonder meets natural tranquility, offering a truly immersive and breathtaking experience.

Volcán Batea Mahuida, located on the border of Argentina and Chile, is a stunning extinct volcano that offers a unique blend of outdoor activities. Visitors can enjoy skiing in the winter months or embark on invigorating hikes to its summit, where breathtaking panoramic views await. The trek to the top can be challenging but is well worth it for those seeking adventure and tranquility amidst nature. For those who prefer a more leisurely approach, 4x4 vehicles are available to reach higher altitudes.
Volcan Batea Mahuida, Neuquen Argentina I saw the Volcan Batea Mahuida from the Mirador De La Reserva Natural Urbana and it was Very Nice To See because we had a lot of clouds in the sky making the visibility very difficult and so I guess I had luck this time around back on Friday, June 23, 2017. Thank you. Sincerely yours, Howard Paul Shore Visitor Executive, Volunteer Writer For Google And Tripadvisor Websites /HPS =========================================================== Volcán Batea Mahuida, Neuquen Argentina Do You Like Volcanoes? Then come and visit Volcán Batea Mahuida. This is a very Beautiful Volcano that can be hard to visit for various reasons such as if there is Bad Weather such as Snow, then it will be very hard to get up to the top, or if there are a lot of Clouds In The Sky then its' visibility will also make it hard to see as well! During our excursion, we did try to get to the top of the volcano using a 4x4, but we gave up due to the amount of snow that was on the road. However, we saw it from another place called "Parque De Nieve Batea Mahuida". I am just so glad that we did Not Give Up On It because I Really Love Volcanoes! I want to personally Thank Federico Garategui and Cesar Lopez Casanegra for taking ME there back on Sunday, June 25, 2017. I want to highlight the excellent ski instructors; my 8-year-old son learned in three classes. The snowmobile excursion to the Argentina-Chile border is spectacular! The food at the cafe is very good; at least we loved the pizza we ate. And the best of all is the ample space to enjoy the snow however you want, from having a picnic, hiking, sledding, or skiing! Many thanks to the Mapuche community for being so welcoming and allowing us to enjoy these wonderful days at Batea Mahuida!

Mentioned on

Lanín is a striking stratovolcano located on the border of Chile and Argentina, boasting a conical shape and an ice-capped peak. The volcano is the centerpiece of Lanin National Park, offering stunning views that captivate travelers. While it has not erupted for thousands of years, occasional tremors keep its status active. For adventure seekers, climbing Lanín is possible but recommended only for experienced mountaineers or with professional guidance due to its steep inclines and snowy terrain.
Great place to visit. There are three routes to get to the very top, two of which are from Argentina (the south and north faces) and one from Chile. The north face is the most common route to use, whether for a one-day ascent (to get to the refuge camp and to go back) or a two-day ascent to get to the very top. Whichever one you chose, you won’t get disappointed. The route is not too challenging, but it is nevertheless tiring. It is recommended to get a good pair of hiking boots and sticks (if you don’t have them). If you are staying overnight in the camp, you will need a torch and a sleeping bag. Don’t forget to register with the national park if you are doing the ascent without a guide/tour.

Good weekend trip to explore Patagonia’s volcanoes: Excellent 2 day hike to get up Lanin. Day 1 we went up to the Refugio, slept there. On day 2 we started early and reached the Lanin peak. Hard work but you get fully rewarded - amazing and picturesque view from the peak. The hike to get up to the peak is technically not too difficult, no climbing equipment is needed though I would recommend to have crampons since the last bit is icy. 🌋🇦🇷

(Translated by Google) It's a shame to leave this review, since my family took classes. The instructors' human quality is excellent. The ski resort is incredible. It's a shame about the amount of snow, which is beyond belief. But I don't understand how they can have such poor organization in sales and rentals. They opened the season from one day to the next. Everyone crowded around to exchange tickets and others to buy them, lines two blocks long. Online sales only work with purchases made 72 hours in advance. Could this be expedited? We also rented equipment at the rental office at the base of the hill. Every day there's an endless line. People rush to get to their class or drop their child off at school. And what happens? We stopped taking care of ourselves... no masks 😷 everyone squeezed together to see if I could get in before someone else... they had the whole beginning of the year to get organized. It can't be the same line for the person measuring up and the person checking out... if we take care of ourselves, it should be a shared line... and the key part is organization! Don't worry, it could have been 5 stars! I hope they improve.

Embark on a breathtaking journey along the Ruta de los Siete Lagos, also known as the Seven Lakes road, for an unforgettable day trip from San Martin. This scenic drive offers mesmerizing views of the Andean landscapes and takes you past seven stunning lakes: Espejo, Correntoso, Escondido, Villarino, Falkner, Machonico, and Lacar.
Wow. Probably the most beautiful drive in the world. Don't forget to go to Villa Traful as well. Make sure to take your time when coming so you can stop wherever you want and take amazing pictures. Also a great tip is to look for hikes before heading there so you can take a brake from driving to go up a mountain or near a lake.

Beautiful drive with loads of adventure! From horses, cows, and sheep temporarily blocking the highway to long winding roads between snowcapped mountains, green valleys, and mirror lakes ... this route had it all. We drove it at the end of winter, but I think it's probably amazing year round. San Martin de Los Andes and Villa Angostura are two essential stops along the route. You can expect it to take all day but there's really no need to leave early unless you really want to savor every view point. You can get to San Martin for a late lunch or early dinner, then head back to Bariloche, assuming that's where you started. Staying the night in any of the three towns is probably easy. I saw a lot of signs showing availability. Driving through the Andes is an incredible experience, and I think this route might be one of the best. Of note, one route was under construction and didn't feel safe to drive. It was Route 65 to Villa Traful. Every other road felt very safe and comfortable.

Below is a summary of the main points: Lago Espejo/Lake Mirror Enrique Wolff, an explorer, visited the lake in 1895 and named it Lake Espejo or Mirror to reflect how amazed he was at a lake that reflects as a mirror Lago Correntoso Chilean immigrants, who were farmers, first arrived here in 1898. They started growing wheat, potatoes, and oat , and raising cows and sheep. Throughout the region, there are numerous farmers with families on both sides of the border. The Argentinian border officers don’t bother them with papers as they use alternative routes. Lago Villarino Named after the Explorer who around 1750 wrote numerous dairies and maps which were critical for the Spanish civilization of Patagonia. Lago Falkner Lago Falkner’s, white sandy beach. Argentinian Explorers initially named this lake Moreno, honoring Perito Moreno. He renamed the lake. Thomas Falkner, in honor of an English Jesuit Explorer. Lago Escondido Escondido, in Spanish means hidden, the lake is truly hidden in a secluded location inside the forest. You will need to jump over to go down and appreciate it’s beauty

This is one of the most beautiful roads I've ever driven. A bit over 100 kilometers, it spans between San Martín de los Andes anda Villa la Angostura, two of my favourite cities in Argentina. You can breathe nature as you drive, cycle or walk through it, with many camping sites and beaches nearby. The water in any of the seven lakes is clean and pure, the trees are green, the sky is blue, what more could you ask for? A must in anyone's bucket list

Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi, established in 1903, is a vast national park in Argentina's Lakes District. Spanning 7500 sq km across Neuquen and Rio Negro provinces, it boasts mountains, lakes, and forests offering various outdoor activities. The centerpiece is the impressive Lago Nahuel Huapi, a glacial lake over 100km long. Hiking enthusiasts can explore challenging multiday treks or easier rambles with well-marked trails.
Pristine National Park in Argentina with the blue waters of the lake set against the snow capped mountains when we visited in October. Many view points along the road as you hug the lake with one or two large viewing platforms providing beautiful 180 degree views of the area. Simply breathtaking.

It’s the natural beauty that is outstanding, not the never ending traffic on the main roads or the noise caused by them. Get away from all that and it is wonderful.

Each season has its own wonder. flowers and birds in spring, silent falling snow in winter with hares and foxes running when you least expect. and I can go on with the hot summer with small waterfalls, never ending nights watching the stars. and at last the autumn with reds covering the forest. its a marvellous place... always, even when the wind blows and the rain falls, and you can do nothing but watch...

Absolutely amazing and gorgeous. We did the trip from Bariloche to San Martin de Los Andes along the 7 lakes route during August (winter time) and enjoyed snowing and amazing sites. Be sure to stop at each lake.

Old Volcano Caverns

Nature & Parks
Caverns & Caves
Old Volcano Caverns offers a worthwhile tour with stunning views and informative guides. The journey begins with a bus ride followed by a challenging hike, but the knowledgeable guides make frequent stops to provide insights into the area's evolution, Patagonian flora and fauna. While the tours are primarily conducted in Spanish, guides make an effort to accommodate non-Spanish speakers. Visitors can explore three small caves, with the last one being larger and requiring some crawling.
Definitively recommended! You get to visit 3 little caves, with the last one being a bit larger. Guide speaks only in Spanish, but very charming and knowledgeable. Tour is approximately 2 1/2 hours with some hiking required. Last cave requires some crawling in order to get into the larger and darker part. This is optional and isn’t necessarily for claustrophobic people. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed it though.
Laurent U — Google review
This is worth the time to come and visit. You need to be able to walk up a somewhat steep hill and crawl through one section of a cave. We showed up at the last minute for a 3pm tour without a reservation. They were very nice and help us get set up on the tour. They told us there was not an english speaking guide available but we went anyway. We used google translate's transcribe feature and kept up with all the great information. This is more than a cave exploring tour, they tell you a lot about the formation of the landscape, plants and animals from the region. You get a great view of the entire town and a different perspective than other lookouts around town. The parts when you're inside the cave are fun, you'll make use of the required hard hat.
Chris D — Google review
The caverns and the view from the tour are well worth the visit. The first part is a short bus ride up to the beginning of the foot path upward. It is a bit strenuous but Sebastian was a wonderful tour guide and stopped several times for explanations and rest. He described the evolution of the area and the plants and animals of Patagonia. And, although it was Spanish language only, he spoke slowly and with gestures to help the other language speakers understand the gist. The climb through the smallest part of the cavern is optional. (Hard hats and hands and knees) But, a lovely crystal clear pool is inside. And the view at the top of the tour is spectacular.
Janet S — Google review
Highly recommended. Short but great experience for what it's worth. Duration about 2 hours and a half. There are two sessions during the day, one at 11 am and the other at 3 pm. There are 3 caverns or caves which seemed like too simple but it has some stories to hear. Guide is really good and let us to catch our breaths in intervals during our ascent and gave us interesting highlights and amazing views. The tour gets better and better as you go further along the course, be ready to crawl on the last leg for about 6 feet and you'll be rewarded with a nice geological surprise. I was amazed that even an elderly man was able to crawl past it. I don't see any need for hiking boots. You cannot go on your own, it's only possible through paid guides but it's relatively inexpensive. You can go to the meeting point with your own car or request to pick you up at pre-determined hotel points.
Juan P — Google review

Parque Nahuelito is a charming and educational park located in the small circuit of Bariloche. It features a variety of life-sized dinosaur replicas, making it an exciting destination for families. Visitors can enjoy a guided tour that lasts approximately 35 minutes, during which they can walk among nearly 30 dinosaur specimens. The knowledgeable and friendly guides provide engaging explanations about the dinosaurs, creating an enjoyable experience for both children and adults.
See 30 different species of dinos as statues (and a couple that are animatronic!) in a one-hour tour. That sounds real fast BUT the guides are engaging and make the pace seem appropriate. And you get to take as many pics as you want along the way
Grek S — Google review
We visited this place on a cold October day as we were needing to get out and enjoy the sites. There were no English speakers that day for the tour, but that didn't stop us from getting our own tour guide and having a blast. We learned what the dinosaur names were in Spanish compared to English. It was pretty fun.

A great place to visit in family. Easy to arrive over Bustillo Avenue (will need a car because it’s a 20 minute drive from down town) It is a 1hour tour, walking into some kind of natural forest, where the guides will explain to the family about dinos ( all except 2 are in 1:1 scale !) The guides are very friendly and they do their work with love and patience for the kids. At the end you can buy some funny pics for about 1500AR. Prices are reasonable. Don’t loose the opportunity to visit this place and learn about Dino’s

The parc is not bad, dinosaurs are beautiful and looks real. First bad point : the park is very small, maybe 20-25 dinosaurs. It takes 15 minutes to walk around the park. Second bad point : the first point would be not so bad if the price wouldn’t so high ! We paid 36 000$ ARS for 2 adults and 1 child 5yo. (25/10/2024) Also, the price are not on the website, and they are not displayed at the entrance… so maybe it depends of the head of the customer….

The Cathedral Our Lady of Nahuel Huapi, also known as Nuestra Senora de Nahuel Huapi, is a monumental neo-gothic building located in Bariloche next to the lake. Designed by architect Alejandro Bustillo and completed in 1947, this cathedral boasts impressive walls, a gigantic dome, and stunning stained-glass windows depicting biblical stories and historical figures from the area.
Absolutely stunning church. The stained glass alone is worth the visit
David R — Google review
I liked the architecture of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Nahuel Huapi. Inside, the portals seem to be made of reinforced concrete, although from the outside, the building appears to be made of stone. It was designed by architect Alejandro Bustillo and inaugurated in 1946. The stained glass windows have a style reminiscent of those created by the stone masons of the ancient Templars in the 11th century.
César A — Google review
Beautiful historic place. The arquitecture is amazing, the vitrauxs are incredible and the surroundings are breathtaking. Pity we couldn't buy anything at the little shop they have there as they only take cash.
Silvia M — Google review
Bariloche’s cathedral is an interesting modern structure built during WWII. Yet it is a classic gothic architecture. The high vaulted ceilings in both the nave and aisles, plus the stained glass windows high up the walls are all very gothic. Indeed, everything about the structural design is a throwback to the Middle Ages. Strangely beautiful indeed 😎😎😎. The interior is quite modern, the idols and images including a painting are unmistakably 20th century designs.

According to Google the church was open. I walked around it and tried all the doors but they were locked. I was however, able to take in the neo-gothic characteristics, with clear European architectural influence. Stunning. The Cathedral of San Carlos de Bariloche, “Our Lady of Nahuel Huapi,” is the main Catholic church in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina.

Sights & Landmarks
Centro Cívico Bariloche is the focal point of the town, featuring Alpine-inspired architecture and a museum that showcases the region's history. The buildings, constructed from timber and local stone, were designed in 1939 by Ernesto de Estrada in collaboration with renowned architect Alejandro Bustillo. At the main plaza, an equestrian statue of General Roca stands amidst graffiti art.
The civic center is full of culture and beauty. There are countless things to do. You can always find things to do to keep you entertained and food of all varieties. The Argentinians are respectful, helpful, and friendly.
Laura C — Google review
Centro Civico was built by architect Ernesto de Estrada.  Basically, like the main square, every town has one.  The place where large cultural and social events are often held.  Its architecture has European and North American influences, reflecting the surrounding mountains and woods. Walk around and take in the charming stone walls, wooden doors and Lake Nahuel Huapi in the background.  Museo de la Patagonia is located here and this is worth a visit.  I enjoyed walking around the square taking in the atmosphere and scenery.

The heart of Bariloche, the civic center is a public plaza. Constructed in 1940, the cobbled plaza is bounded by stone and log buildings housing the Municipality of Bariloche (the one with the clock tower), the city library, a museum and the city post office. At the center of the plaza is the equestrian statue of General Julio Argentino Roca, military leader and statesman. He served 2 terms as President of Argentina, for a total of 12 years, apparently the longest serving president. The plaza appears to be a center of community and civic activities throughout the year.

Piedras Blancas is a winter wonderland offering a variety of activities for all ages. From ziplines and snow tubing to skiing and hiking, there's something for everyone. For the more adventurous, sports climbing below Cerro Otto provides stunning views of Nahuel Huapi and the surrounding mountains. While the park offers fun at lower prices than nearby ski resorts, visitors should be prepared for potentially expensive food and beverage costs on-site.
Good fun all day... once you managed to buy the entrance tickets and get all the necessary gear, all these might over an hour in line waiting. Safety measures are well run. The day we spent there it snowed, therefore, had more fun on every activity.

Great winter park, especially for kids, offering lower prices than the prices of the Cerro Catedral ski center and having lots of fun riding the speedy "trineos" and ziplines. If it snows there days before your visit, you will enjoy all the tracks with a lot of ice. The only regrets are the expensive prices of food and beverages at the restaurant.

Great fun multiple tracks for sledging. 20,000 pesos for entrance and six lifts up including the small sledges(trineos). Helmets goggles and boots extra if needed. Long queues to get in but mainly caused by people asking lots of questions. Don’t know why as the board beside the entrance tells you all the ticket prices. It was just over £20 each all included. We drove up. The road is a steep dirt track. Plenty of parking at the top but a bit muddy.

Cerro Otto, located within Nahuel Huapi National Park, is a mountain that offers breathtaking panoramic views of Lago Nahuel Huapi and the Andes from its 1,405-meter summit. Accessible by car, foot, or cable car, it provides hiking and biking trails in addition to seasonal cross-country ski trails. While the cable cars may undergo maintenance at times, visitors can still enjoy the stunning scenery and outdoor activities such as skiing during winter.
Another high Mountain View of lakes region of Bariloche. It’s accessible by cable car in a residential area of town. The view of the lakes and the Patagonian Alps is certainly magnificent. It is less busy than Cerro Campanario, just a couple of kilometers away.
Globetrotter — Google review
Beautiful views across the lago as you walk up to the summit. Only negative is the extortionate‘access charge’ to the cerro complex which is a fixed rate per person regardless. You can’t avoid it if you want to take the cable car back down.
Louise — Google review
For those trying to drive to Cerro Otto, the road is currently closed at the Piedras Blancas, and you will be denied access. There are some nice views near the parking lot, so still a worthwhile experience.

Worth a gondola ride, nice view over Bariloche and the lake
Joerg H — Google review
Beautiful place and walk with friends. Not too challenging and depending how close you can get to it in a vehicle you can do this as a day trek in just a few hours. The views are stunning and it’s one of the best examples of Lenga trees. It’s frustrating that part of the trek goes through “private land” of the Aralauquen estate - how on earth was part of a national park (and a large part at that) sold privately to become a playground for Bariloche’s rich and famous. Disgraceful really and surely there must have been some brown envelopes passed to ensure that this happened. In any case it’s a beautiful landscape and the views over Lago Gutierrez are sublime. Hopefully the whole trek returns to public hands soon.

An okay place overall. The drive up didn’t feel very safe — I imagine it gets quite dangerous when the road is busy with cars going up and down. The hike itself was challenging, and to be honest, I found the natural views along the way more enjoyable than the open-air museum at the top. The host was very friendly, but note that payment is cash-only. I’d recommend visiting only after doing Río Azul first, since it takes about 40 minutes of walking to reach the top.

I recommend leaving the car in the parking lot, it costs $300 per car. It is the only place to go to the bathroom, then it is all trail and there is only one campsite but private. The walk from the parking lot to the end takes 45 minutes to an hour. Where it can take a while is on the bridge part because only one person can pass. The road from the center of Bolson to the parking lot is all dirt but in good condition. And the walking trail is suitable for everyone. Excellent place!! 👏🏻 (Original) Es realmente un sueño!! Donde se puede llegar a tardar es en la parte del puente porque solamente puede pasar de una persona. The Trochita, also known as the Old Patagonian Express, is a historic narrow-gauge railway dating back to 1921. It operates on three different routes and offers scenic tours through picturesque landscapes. The train station serves as the starting point for La Trochita, a vintage tourism train that takes passengers on an unforgettable journey to nearby destinations. Visitors can purchase tickets at the station or through local travel agencies.
Pricey for foreigners but worth it. Unique experience.

We did not get to ride the train as the season is off, but we had a wonderful girl tour us the entire place. She was great.

This is that actual train station for the town. Which is functional and receives trains from time to time. Also is the starting point for the scenic tourism train La Trochita, which runs from here to a few close destinations for you to enjoy what’s being inside an old train from a lost time. Tickets can be bought here, there is a huge sign outside that shows prices, destinations and operation times (which are limited from very early morning yo midday). The actual train station is renovated and features paintings and lots of information about the history of the place and the old train formations that once ran from here. Must visit!

(Translated by Google) Interesting place, it is at the beginning of a central square... and along it there are more similar monuments (Original) Interesante lugar, está en el comienzo de una plaza central... y a lo largo de ella hay más monumentos similares

(Translated by Google) Very representative monument of the area, a must-see photo when visiting Coyaique, it is on a walk that also has other statues and legends which is worth the visit. If it should be much better maintained, it needs to renew the paint and other areas of the sculptures as well since some are painted but with splattered floors.
