(Translated by Google) We drove with Kristinn (and his Nissan Jeep) to the highlands, to an area without tourists, to Kristinn's private "kingdom"! We had a wonderful day, were fascinated by the wild, untouched and varied nature, forded through rivers, crossed snowfields and learned a lot about the geology, biology and life in this fascinating country. Kristinn showed us the most beautiful side of Iceland and entertained us with singing! The day will definitely be remembered! Thank you very much for your effort, Kristin! I hope we meet again! (Translated by Google) We were out for a day with Kristinn, we are very satisfied. He picked us up right on time, at our hotel in Myvatn. He had a lot to say and we learned a lot of new things. The different types of Lava, the history of Iceland, the holiday rituals, the life of the people in the highlands. We visited 7 (maybe more...) viewpoints along the way, the Askja crater was impressive, and certainly the walk to it, but also a great waterfall, which would be inaccessible in the afternoon due to the amount of meltwater, Kirstinn showed us as our first outing. The river crossings were exciting, and especially the place where the LAVA burned for 6 months in 2014/2015... He said that the fresh lava there is sharp as ground glass: we thought so too when we felt it. All in all a great day with Kristinn, we would never have been able to experience all this with a tourist bus!

Great place and impressive collection! One thing I would add is English descriptions to the cars, only some has them. Also the coffee was very good :)
Bartek T — Google review
The owner is one of the nicest people I have ever met! I was visiting from the states and made the drive from Reykjavik to visit this place. They have an amazing car collection with one of 3 Dixie Flyers left in existence and one of two DMC DeLoreans in Iceland. Highlight of the visit was hearing from the owner about the restoration process for their vehicles and all the stories behind the cars. Was the highlight of my entire trip to Iceland.
Ben F — Google review
Must stop! This was an amazing collection, beautifully kept and many unusual items. One was a Dixie Flyer - one of 3 in the world- tractors and a Tucker snow cat. There is a little play area for kiddos and a spotless WC. The owner is welcoming & we could have stayed all day!
V V — Google review
Fantastic place!!! Being a car engineer I was impressed but I believe it is very interesting for everyone who likes cars, vehicles a bit. It is a private collection with 2 big rooms of completely restored old or oldish cars and machines and there are at least 50 of others outside waiting for some workshop hours in order to get back in shape. Absolutely recommended place!!!
Gergely N — Google review
Fantastic collection of older cars, trucks, tractors, and unique vehicles. An interesting mix of makes and models mostly from Europe and North America. Owner was very nice and helpful, even helping to inflate a tire on my motorbike.
Amos H — Google review
Great museum. But check the opening hours before you go there - they are open just few hours a day. Lot of cars and also great collections of small things from the past. My grandma used to have some of them at home :) The owner was very nice and friendly. I loved the red mustang and also original Jukebox, where you can play a song!
Kristýna Š — Google review
What an amazing eclectic selection of vehicles and memorabilia. The diversity is amazing cars from every era. Impossible to really see it all as in every space there is something interesting. There are also some vintage tractors in various stages of restoration. Highly recommended
Vince V — Google review
A bit out of the way but worth the visit. A family farm/ property that I highly recommend visiting if you are a car person. We talked with the owner for quite a while. Some random weird cars as well as snowmobiles, bicycles , etc.....you name it. Then go out back, lots of old defenders and American junk rotting away. I love this place and had a great time here.

Goðafoss Waterfall

Mentioned on

Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Goðafoss Waterfall, also known as "The Falls of the Gods," is a stunning natural wonder located in Iceland. It cascades over a curved, 12-meter-high precipice and offers multiple viewpoints accessible via paths. Despite being smaller and less powerful than some of Iceland's other waterfalls, it is renowned for its breathtaking beauty. Visitors can access two car parks near the waterfall, with one situated on the Ring Road and another located beside a petrol station.
The waterfall is gorgeous! We visited the waterfall from both the west or the east side. On the east side, there is a path leading to the river bank and you can enjoy the views there.
Jet Z — Google review
We enjoyed our stop at this waterfalls, even though it was a cloudy rainy day. It felt much less commercialized than the waterfalls on the south of the island. There is plenty of free parking, and the walking paths give you great views of the fall. Right along the Ring Road, so a easy stop while driving through the north of Iceland. Definitely worth spending a few minutes here.
Kevin H — Google review
Amazing beautiful waterfall on the ring road close to Akureyri. The trail is well mark, you can go down close the waterfall also if you have the skills. The parking is very convenient and close, it has two, one on each side. You can see the waterfall front different angles. Also it has a suoveniers store with bathrooms and nice coffee so you can get nice presents there and the staff is very friendly.
Rosi G — Google review
Beautiful waterfall with amazing view points all around. There are plenty of spots to sit and enjoy the views. There are steps to go down near the base of the fall. Godafoss looks a bit like Niagara Falls in a smaller scale but it’s far less crowded and commercialized which makes it more pleasant and enjoyable. We enjoyed our stay there and highly recommend it for anyone visiting nearby.
Arif I — Google review
Stunning waterfall. Very accessible. Car parks on the east and west side for free. Toilets cost 200 krona in the cafe. Even a little hotel next to it. The paths and viewpoints are very accessible even in flip flops but you'd need trainers probably to go down to the beach bit where the best view is. Little bit rocky down there. There's even some picnic benches up top for relaxing
Nadia — Google review
Free parking for a magnificent waterfall. Park on the west side (for the best views) and then there is a short walk from the parking area. There are viewing platforms and there’s a staircase to get closer to the waterfall. A souvenir shop and a paid WC (200kr) is located near the west parking lot.
Shilpa S — Google review
Beautiful, not a sunny day but still an amazing sight of the power of water! Would love to see the flow from a melting of snow in the spring.
Scott E — Google review
Pretty crowded parking lot and area for tourists, but was still worth a quick visit. Nicely paved and easy to walk along, just gets a bit crowded. Grab a quick photo and move on to other attractions.

History Museums
Laufás Museum and heritage site showcases early Icelandic life with grass-roofed houses and a 19th century church. The museum is designed like an extended home, featuring period furnishings and informational plaques that detail living conditions and customs. A knowledgeable docent is available to answer any questions visitors may have. The church is a must-see, complete with a beautiful choir loft. Additionally, the gift shop offers handmade local items for those seeking authentic souvenirs.
It was temporarily closed, yet we were able to look around, visit church, and also use the toilet - which was open, clean, and warm. The old agricultural machine exposition was outside. Houses were locked, but we were able to look inside through the windows.
Greg N — Google review
Nice place to see life as it was in old Iceland. Pleasant short stop on your way to or from the falls. WATCH YOUR HEAD in the house. Low ceilings.....
Elliot F — Google review
Laufás Museum and heritage site with its turf houses is a unique and interesting place to visit. From the outside the houses appear to be individual and small. However, most are interconnected inside and have multiple rooms and even an upstairs! You can climb up into the loft of the church. I say climb as the steps are very shallow in depth. We recommend visiting. We were on a tour through our cruise line. We did not feel rushed at this stop.
Carlee C — Google review
A highlight of our two days in Akuyeri! Firstly, the drive here was stunning, right on the coastline with breathtaking views. The museum and heritage site was beautifully maintained and so so informative. Going through the maze of the house was mind-blowing, each room was a new discovery full of artifacts and nonstop history. We enjoyed it greatly and highly recommend. On the way back to Akuyeri we stopped on the side of the road to visit some Icelandic horses. Beautiful scenery.
Paulina P — Google review
The highlight of the day! Totally worth the drive to get here and learn a bit more about Icelandic history and the traditional way of life. A must-stop if you’re exploring the area.
Geronimo A — Google review
Ab interesting slice of Icelandic history that dates back to the mid 11th century. This current site appears to have been rebuilt around the 19th century and it was interesting to walk through the in ground home which is much larger than you would think
Nick D — Google review
Worth the detour. Had full access to everything. So cool to walk inside the sod houses and the church. Great historical information. Wonderful people in the shop. Coffee and tea are part of the admission.
Corie N — Google review
Gorgeous views, cool history, helpful and kind staff! We had a coffee in the shop and the lady behind the counter taught us about the crystallized sugar. She said sometimes they will place the sugar in their mouth and drink the coffee through it, I tried it and it was fun. Cute dog in the area as well

Nestled on a hill in Akureyri, Iceland, the magnificent Akureyrarkirkja is a Lutheran church that captivates visitors with its stunning architecture and serene ambiance. Designed by Gudhjon Samuelsson, this modernist gem features an impressive white facade adorned with numerous stained-glass windows and a grand pipe organ inside.
Lutheran church I read they only close it for celebrations and funerals and I wondered when this would happen. Well we went today and there was a funeral going on. We saw the family and understood for whom was the ceremony for and it was very sad. The climb up builds heat specially when it's cold
Shanit R — Google review
Beautiful church right in the middle of this town. We couldn't go inside as it was closed in off peak hours. The entire place was really beautiful. The view of the city from the church compound was very pretty.
Shreyash S — Google review
Worth a visit. Beautiful modern church that overlooks the town and the water. Some interesting stained glass and an amazing organ. Was designed by the same architect from Hallgrímskirkja in Reykavik.
David S — Google review
We have visited Akureyri twice now, and an iconic sight visible from all along the waterfront is the Akureyri new modern church. We were unable to get to it to enter either visit, but enjoyed the architecture from the outside. I believe the two front spires are mostly decorative, but this makes it reminiscent of a European medieval catholic cathedral in style..
Graham T — Google review
Beautiful church. Honestly, this was one of my favorite spots while visiting Akureyri. Each stained glass window alternated pictorial depictions of the gospel and of Icelandic Christian history and heritage. It was moving and awe inspiring. It was such a beautiful display of local and national culture, and intricately displayed the intrinsic connection between Iceland’s national heritage with Christianity
Britt — Google review
Pretty church, with a clean design. The view of the city from the church was also great. Good shopping and food options in the central area right next to the church.
Ram R — Google review
I guess it is a modern design church but it would have been inspiring to Reykjavik church. If the weather was good, I could take several photo well and entered to get feeling.

The Icelandic Aviation Museum is a charming establishment that showcases the development and history of aviation in Iceland. The museum features a variety of restored aircraft that played significant roles in Icelandic aviation, with some still maintained airworthy or planned to be so. Knowledgeable and welcoming staff provide visitors with informative insights into the exhibits. The museum is an excellent attraction for aviation enthusiasts, automobile lovers or anyone interested in well-curated exhibitions. Visitors can look forward to seeing the newest display from a local airline on their next visit.
An absolute gem of a museum. Many fantastic exhibits, you can even climb up inside the cockpit of one, dress up as a pilot, press all the buttons and pull all the levers. Impressive. The personnel of this museum are fantastic, kind, welcoming, and extend the opening hours upon prior request to accommodate our tight schedule. Very appreciated. They serve coffee and sell some model airplanes. Wonderful place, we loved our visit
Jana N — Google review
Pretty impressive collections. You can find there different things connected with flying: from flight suits, stories and plane models through salvaged weapons or radio equipments up to full machines from different times and sizes parked inside. Everything is located inside a hangar. Plane enjoyers definitely need to see this place. Price can be a little high, but on first day of icelandic summer entrance is free.
Maciej L — Google review
Amazing aviation museum. It has static displays plus working aircraft. They have an old 747 flight deck where you can go in and touch everything (which is so rare). If you like aviation you will love this place.
Peter L — Google review
Very well looked after museum. You can approach a/c much as you want. No tape. Staff is very friendly. Under 18 enter for free. A nice 3 km walk from the cruise terminal

Excellent museum filled with the history of Icelandic aviation! The gentleman at the front desk was very nice and friendly and had hot coffee on arrival!

An absolute must visit for all aviation enthusiasts! Good variety of display and they have a retired Boeing 747 cockpit as well! Might even be able to catch an aircraft landing if you’re lucky!

A great little aviation museum which has a surprising number of exhibits. A very friendly welcome which included complimentary coffee. For me the highlight was exploring the 747 cockpit - very interesting! If you are visiting Akureyri make sure you call in.

Nestled in the charming town of Akureyri, the Akureyri Museum is a delightful cultural gem that invites visitors to explore the rich history of North Iceland. Established in 1963, this museum offers an engaging glimpse into the region's past through its diverse collection of artifacts and multimedia displays. As you wander through its intimate space, you'll discover exhibitions that frequently change, showcasing everything from contemporary art to fashion.
Very well done and interesting museum with thousands of items from daily use spanning the entire history of the town. As I walked around, I felt like I entered the past! Don't miss the turf house in the back! You can also visit the nearby Nonni house and a small church from the 1840s.
Eileen W — Google review
We had a nice visit with the guy at Admission, wish we got his name. Thanks for being so hospitable. Through the displays I could really get a sense of Akureyri (Aka-ray-re) roll the r's if possible. Someone could do a show like Derry Girls or Call the Midwife and focus on music in during early sixties to early seventies!
Jeanne M — Google review
Great little museum that offers a rich and immersive experience into the local history and culture. This museum provides visitors with an in-depth look into the past, showcasing a variety of artifacts and exhibits that capture the essence of life in North Iceland through the ages. One of the highlights of the Akureyri Museum is its extensive collection of antiques. The museum features detailed displays that recreate historical settings, providing a vivid picture of how people lived and worked in the past, each artifact tells a story. Overall, the Akureyri Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in history and culture. It offers a well-rounded and engaging experience that both educates and entertains. This is a very good local history museum with many interesting objects spanning the last couple hundred years. The preserved priest's house is extraordinary. Highly recommended.
Joshua O — Google review
Lovely little museum tucked away behind the woods, interesting exhibition if you want to learn more about the city and region's history. Loved the maps collection.
Joy — Google review
A small museum in Akureyri but for its relatively small size, this museum is able to successfully inform and educate, in my view. The museum itself was laid out in a logical, easy to follow manner, showcasing what life in Akureyri was like in the past. Exhibits have concise, bilingual explainers both in Icelandic and also English. There’s complimentary coffee too, near the entrance. Worth a short visit if you’re ever in the Gamla Akureyri area!

Gardens
Located in Akureyri, the Akureyri Botanical Garden is a 3.6-hectare park established in 1912 by Margrethe Schioth. It features a diverse collection of plants from Iceland, South America, and Africa, including subtropical species that thrive despite the region's low average temperature. The garden offers a peaceful atmosphere with views of the fjord and an impressive variety of flora.
Free admission to this garden, which was awesome! It’s was great checking out all types of plants here that some of them I had never seen before. The place itself was pretty big too, offering a cafe, 2 greenhouses, a statue of the original owner of the place, and a fountain. Some of the flowers pictured below were some of my favorites, since they looked gorgeous! Highly recommend stopping by, especially since admission is free!
Nikolai M — Google review
The garden is small but lovely, an unexpected gem just above the town. You can walk here, but it’s all uphill from the town or cruise port, so jump on the free public bus which does the rounds every 25 minutes or so, see the gardens, then walk back down past the church. As a bonus the garden has a lovely cafe in an architecturally designed building which does decent coffee and cakes.
Stephen S — Google review
The gardens, for this time of year, were still beautiful. I would love to come back someday to see it during peek times. We walked through in about an hour. There is a shop that had coffee and some bakery items. We didn't eat there because we had just finished eating sandwiches. If you enjoy flowers, and are curious about the names of some of the plants you have seen along your journey, take a stroll. You won't be disappointed!
Tamara B — Google review
Beautiful and calm place. Nice flowers, and trees everywhere. It has the information for everything around. The paths are easy to walk, charming nature and it has a caffe very cozy inside too. The parking is easy access right at front. Lovely place.
Rosi G — Google review
Beautiful garden with pathways. Very peaceful. It's free. There's a Cafe to purchase coffee or Alcohol. Definitely bring your camera. The floral smells are so refreshing!
Amy G — Google review
This is a must do if you are in town and it’s the summer months. The range of flowers were just amazing. I saw flora I have never seen before in my entire life. The grounds were great and really well maintained. The cafe at the garden was beautiful and quaint. It was a hike uphill to get here from the cruise port so we opted to take a taxi, which was very easy to do from the port and to return to the port. Just get the cab’s business card so you can contact them when you’re done (WhatsApp is usually best). My husband and I were with my three year old and they both enjoyed the gardens. I’m so glad we decided to come here. It was a highlight of the trip!
Leah S — Google review
These gardens are STUNNING! Don’t miss if you are a flower garden fan. I visited August 5, 2025). My pix do not come close to capturing how nice this place is.
Debra K — Google review
My visit to Akureyri Botanical Garden in late June was perfectly timed as flowers were just starting to unfurl their beauty. It’s an incredibly peaceful place, ideal for an hour of quiet exploration among the varied plant species. I found myself constantly discovering new favorites around every bend. The presence of an interesting cafe right inside adds a unique touch, perfect for a refreshing break. This garden provides a serene escape, offering both natural beauty and a relaxing environment. A truly delightful and calming experience!

Whale Watching Hauganes

Whale watching tour agency
Tours
Whale Watching Hauganes offers an unforgettable experience, despite the cold weather. Visitors are provided with warm flotation suits and can enjoy complimentary hot drinks and pastries on board. The knowledgeable guides ensure a safe and informative tour, with the chance to see multiple whales up close. The cozy oak boat provides a personal touch to the excursion, offering stunning views of the mountains and fjord.
We were not going to go whale watching — our experience in other countries has been too many boats, few or no whales. But we met someone who said this was the highlight of her trip…so we booked tickets last minute (night before), resigned to just enjoy the classic Icelandic boats and majestic views. This exceeded our wildest expectations! Weather was perfect (blue skies and light breeze), views were stunning (snow capped mountains, green fields), boat was iconic (all wood, quiet, small), no other boats around…and so many, many whales. We were only 15 minutes from shore when the crew started spotting whales (humpback, minke) and it was non-stop. At one point, one humpback hung out next to the boat for 15 minutes - it was magical. Thank you to the operators and crew for an unforgettable experience.
Monica M — Google review
Encountered this amazing tour through an NCL cruise booking (late May 2025). The crew was energetic, the boat was just the right size for our 2doz-ish group. Sailed out to a spot where at least 3 humpback whales were out swimming & we have tons of great memories as a result. No full breeching/jumping but plenty of sights as they kept coming up to breathe. Super serene setting. They offered hot chocolate + homemade cinnamon biscuits (cookies) that were quite good as well. Overall a highly recommended stop during your next Icelandic adventure! And the shop attendant was incredibly kind, thank you for the experience of a lifetime!
Kate S — Google review
Great experience. The staff and the captain were truly kind. We were lucky enough to see a whale. On the boat, they also offered coffee, hot chocolate, and some snacks. Highly recommended.
Pablo R — Google review
One of the best sea life experience ! Must do with kids ! Staffs are friendly, crews are competent! At mid sea , they serve hot chocolates and home made cookies that was awesome ! Must do place if you are in to whales watching with kids !
Geeky M — Google review
What an amazing experience! We saw 7 different whales and they were showing off continuously for 2.5h! We definitely recommend this company. We enjoyed our ride with Johann and Gardar. Johann is also a great singer, so I hope he shows off his skills as well.
Kristína B — Google review
I was supposed to go Whale watching in Husavik, but due to bad weather and high waves booking got cancelled and they reccomended me this agency. It was about 90 minutes drive from Husavik. As soon as we arrived we got waterproof suits and equipment to keep as dry and warm. Reccomendation is to layer up in the fall season under the suits, the more you have the better. During the 2 hours of boat ride we've seen bunch of whales. At the first half an hour you basically just go to the location they know it should have some whales. After that when the guides spot the whale, captain navigates to the location and you have short time of seeing them on the surface before they dive. We've seen some with tails out and some of the lazy ones without the tails. One even approached the ship super close. As waves were rough we got splashed by the water multiple times, but suits really worked and we were all dry underneath. Wind was really strong as well so reccomend to bring the gloves of your own. At the way back crew offer us hot drinks (coffe and hot cocholate) along with some homa made cookies, and the guide sang us sea shanty, which was really nice touch. All in all grate experience which was really improved by the great crew and guides. Definately worth the money

The perfect trip. We saw several whales. We were given warm and buoyant clothing. There were cookies, hot coffee, and hot chocolate. My boyfriend is a fan of boats and all kinds of machines, and he had lots of questions about them – the captain and the guide answered all of them, were very open, and gave us even more information than we expected. We highly recommend it!

There were lots of whales unfortunately unless you are at the front of the boat and very pushy (we had a bunch of people from southern Europe that just had to be at the front if the boat and literally shoved everyone else out of the way) you won't see anything. As my short friend pointed out there was no such thing as viewing from either side of the boat, the caption always pointed the boat so the whales were at the very front. my best shot below. And they vaped stuff that stunk. Found out afterwards that isn't allowed, but the upper deck staff conveniently never noticed.

An unforgettable (and slightly chaotic) experience! The whale watching tour in Árskógssandur was absolutely incredible. We a saw a humpback breach the water over 10 times. The crew was super friendly and knew all the whale facts. Plus, they gave us hot chocolate and pastries on the ride back to the dock. Bonus entertainment: I sacrificed my iPhone 16 to the Greenland Sea while trying to film this spectacular show. It fell out of my hands and plummeted into the icy embrace of the Arctic whenever we hit a wave, while I was running around LOL. 10/10 would risk my phone again to see those massive sea babies. Pro tip: Attach a strap to your phone if you're going to use it for lots of pictures and videos. Do not dart around chaotically around the boat like I did, cos that's how I ended up losing my phone. Luckily, I still had my other camera, so I managed to capture some photos regardless. Also, be sure to bundle up. They provide coveralls, but it gets COLD out there on the water! Highly recommend this tour if you're visiting Iceland and want to experience the wildlife.

What an amazing experience! My group and I had a great time whale watching and enjoyed seeing 3 humpback whales on our tour. Here are some tips that I want future whale watchers to know before they go: - make sure to keep your layers on because even under the provided coveralls it can get chilly! - invest in a strap or bracelet on your phone, I found that it’s easy to drop your phone especially with clunky gloves and cold hands so a strap is very useful! Overall this was an amazing and worth it experience! We stayed warm with the provided coveralls and warmed up even more on the way back with a nice pastry and hot chocolate! Very nice captain and crew as well! Absolutely recommend this for anyone interested in seeing some majestic whales! 🐳

Last minute decision to do the afternoon tour out of Arskogssandur - its was wonderful! So warm & sunny that we didn’t need the insulated overalls, and a large pod of whales were south in the fjord. We were total of 3 hours in the boat as we turned slowly within a large pod of humpback whales. It’s was truly amazing! The afternoon tours are typically less people than the morning & better weather (at least on the day we went. The guide was excellent - super helpful and we enjoyed every minute!

Our whale watching tour with North Sailing was hands down the highlight of our trip! From start to finish, the entire experience left us speechless in the face of nature’s grandeur. Originally, we planned to depart from Húsavík, but the team advised us to go from Árskógssandur instead, as there was increased whale activity in that area. And they were absolutely right! Thanks to their expert knowledge, we had the most incredible sightings, including the magnificent Forrest Hump, which is quite rare to spot in March! A special shoutout to our spotter, who was absolutely fantastic. His passion for what he does was truly inspiring, and his excitement was contagious! You could tell he genuinely loves his job, and his dedication made the experience even more unforgettable. If you're considering whale watching in Iceland, look no further. North Sailing delivers an unforgettable adventure that will stay with you forever. A solid 10/10 – highly recommended!

I appreciated especially the site of the boat and amount of people on it. Not as crowded as other boats we saw. Our little one 2yo didn’t particularly enjoyed the trip, but the cinnamon roll and hot chocolate fixed the mood 😅 It was also super sweet that we got for him fitting sailing overall ❤️ And of course - we saw whales! 🥰
Alžběta B — Google review
We saw so many humpback whales! Both up close and far away. It took about an hour into the ride before we saw them. I was originally supposed to be in Husavik to see them but the company suggested I switch because of weather. I am so happy that I did. They gave us thick, waterproof overcoats to keep us warm on the boat. We were glad we had them. It was cold. I did feel a little sea sick on the ride back but nothing terrible, but if you’re sensitive beware.
Kailee C — Google review
Amazing weather, saw minky and humpback whales. No pods unfortunately, but saw quite a few whales, overall very happy with the experience!! The boat was not crowded (unlike others we saw from other agencies) and it was very relaxed on board. I appreciated that the captain kept a safe distance from the whales, we were able to see them close and far. Other speed boats got way too close to them, and the whales swam further away. We loved the chocolate and biscuits. We would have liked to hear a bit more about Icelandic history and whale watching and hunting, but we will head to the whale museum in husavik for this :) thanks to the crew and the team!!
Julia C — Google review
This was, by far the best experience we had on Iceland. Due to the weather we had rebooked a whale watching cruise from Husavik to here. Best choice. Even our very friendly guide was impressed by how many whales we saw. In the meantime, 3 whales were at the boat at the same time. All in we saw more than 9 different Humpbacks. Some.of them more than once. And even 2 White sided dolphins came Close and jumped around us. We where all's sooo impressed. Thank you for this amazing trip.

Arctic Sea Tours, located near Akureyri in North Iceland, offers a range of exciting tours including Arctic whale watching, Grimsey Arctic Island and Arctic Sea Angling. Visitors have had fantastic experiences on the well-maintained boat, spotting humpback whales and dolphins in the overcast skies. The friendly and professional owner and staff go above and beyond to ensure a memorable trip, even upgrading to a faster boat for better viewing opportunities.
We were visiting in early April 2025. Seeing whales in April is 50/50, eather you see bunch or none. We had luck that we saw minke whale just before the end of the tour so we even extended our tour. We also saw some porpoises. We had a great time with them.

Took express whale watching at 1pm. It's totally worth it. I would highly recommend eventhough its a expensive than classic tours. You have flexibility going to whales quickly. Guide made sure that he spent some time more to ensure that we see whales. We got lucky and saw one whale besides our boat. And also we saw very near by two whales ( humpback) GO FOR IT YOU WILL NOT REGRET.

Did premium whale watching wirh Arctic Sea in Dalvik. Speed boat is fast so dont forget gloves, hat and glasses. Seen 3-4 whales. Trip took longer than 2h. If booking in the office or over the phone ask for discount ;) speed boat trip is 2x expensive but will get you closer to the whales

It was a breathtaking experience. We had a very nice guard who told us many interesting facts about the whales and he had an exact idea from where the whales were at the day. Furthermore we had a very talented captain who led the boat skillful to the whales without scaring them. We saw so many whales and were able to take lots of photos and videos. Some of the animals were really close. At the end we even got hot chocolate and cinnamon buns. It worth a the price!!!

Great experience. The staff was friendly and nice. We were offered proper outfit, check in was easy. The tour itself was simply amazing, suggestive and wonderful. We were able to see a lot of wales, even if we took the big boat we were able to see them very closed by. The facility has bathrooms and it's warm. Incredibile experience.

We had the classic tour, which was great (warm overalls and hot chocolate and cinnamon bun included). It lasted 3 hours, during which we went inside the fjord and had the chance to watch some 4-5 humpback whales. The guide also mentioned a minke whale, but I couldn't spot that sneaky one. Kudos to the captain, who patiently maneuvered the boat so that we could have a good with atvtbe gentle giants of the see.

Great Experience. Hosts are very fluent in English and take the Time to Hunt for good pictures. You will get weather-resistable Overalls as well as free hot chocolate and cinnamon Rolls on Board 😋

Exciting Whale Watching…..Nice facility to get gear on before boat ride. Restrooms available. Boat was top notch. Not your average “rubber boat.” I believe they said it weighed 15 tons. We got an arctic speed boat ride in a beautiful bay. Lots of whale sightings on our tour as well. Captain got us close and personal. One whale actually went right under our boat. We could have almost touched him.

It was AWESOME! 😍 We were there to relax during our holidays. It's cheap, the changing rooms are large and clean with lockers. The pools are perfect 💙 At first we had the big swimming pool to ourselves, it's incredible to swim in a hot water with the snow everywhere around! Then we went to the 3 different hot tubs and it was so relaxing. We even could watch the gym class with vintage & fun music from our hot tub, such an entertainment! After the bath, there is even a hair dryer. Maybe one suggestion: it would be awesome if there was a swimsuit dryer. We really recommend this place 200%.

A man couldn’t throw away anything. So, you can pay more than the entrance to the Louvre or to the Acropolis museum to see his stuff. Some rusty nails, some hammers, some pens etc. No story or dates or anything behind any object. Not a collection of beautiful things or something. He just kept everything. All kinds of meaningless things. So boring!

(Translated by Google) A very remarkable museum that is fun to look at. I thought this was a museum that some man had set up out of whimsy. It turned out that Sverrir rebuilt many old houses in Akureyri and fought hard to ensure that others were preserved. He collected things that were later used in house renovations. Certainly many special things, such as having all the tools and pencils for his entire career. We are deeply indebted to Sverrir and his people. Akureyri and Iceland would have missed out on a lot if he had not saved all these houses and changed people's attitudes towards them. (Original) Mjög merkilegt safn sem skemmtilegt er að skoða. Ég hélt að þetta væri safn sem einhver maður hefði komið sér upp af sérvisku. Kom svo í ljós að Sverrir endurbyggði mörg gömul hús á Akureyri og barðist ötullega fyrir því önnur yrðu varðveitt. Hann safnaði hlutum sem síðar nýttust við uppgerðir húsa. Vissulega margt sérstakt eins og að eiga öll verkfærin og blýantana allan ferilinn. Við stöndum í mikilli þakkarskuld við Sverri og hans fólk. Akureyri og Ísland hegði farið á mis við margt ef hann hefði ekki bjargað öllum þessum húsum og breytt viðhorfum fólks til þeirra.

This was incredible. The view was amazing. The pool water itself was quite warm and felt wonderful to swim a few laps after being cooped up in a car for many days. There is a hot tub which felt nice as well. The changing room was clean and very simple. There is a small locker you can use for things like your wallet, phone, or passport. Otherwise, you're given a hook, a basket, and a bench for your belongings. The showers aren't very warm, but I didn't find that to be a problem. This was my first Icelandic public pool experience and I keep thinking, why didn't I try one sooner?! It's lovely, less crowded, and costs less money than the big geothermal pools. Will definitely come back here. (also, be sure to take the path down to see the basalt columns. It's beautiful!)

This is a famous pool in Iceland, as it was donated to this quaint town. The hours are longer in the summer, 9-21, I believe. The pool Is well-maintained, clean and with one of the best views of any public pool in Iceland! Not to be missed is the short hike down to the basalt columns below. This breathtaking area is rumored to be the elf capitol of the region. Enjoy the beauty and positive energy, while respecting the wildlife and the elves. An excellent riding service in the area. I took a short tour one morning with Kiara (?) and had a great time. She was informative and friendly, and very set on making sure everyone had a good time with a mix of trying new things but also feeling safe. The book process is a little unusual in that you need to call or email ahead. Evelyn will confirm with you and ask for information about you (age, weight, height, experience) to ensure she can pair with you with an appropriate match from one of the 105+ horses they have on the farm. Then you show up and pay on site. It was thoughtful and reflected in how the horses handled, particularly with new riders on a beginner friendly tour. 2 hours and 11.000isk felt very fair. I’d absolutely come back to try a longer ride.

very nice place with a nice pool in the middle of the houses. shame about the water that smells very strongly of sulfur, for this I recommend bringing a lot of natural water. for the rest the house is very welcoming but it has stairs to go upstairs that are very narrow and dangerous.

I cant express enough how much I enjoyed my riding holiday with Hestasport. All the guides and staff were marvellous. Nothing was ever too much trouble and they were always smiling. The cottages were fantastic as was the food. The horses were clearly well looked after and they were sure footed and responsive over all terrains and through the streams. The last day we were taught the flying pace. How exhilarating!!

Glaumbær Turf Farm & Museum

Mentioned on

Specialty Museums
Glaumbær Farm & Museum is an 18th-century turf-farm museum in northern Iceland, offering a fascinating glimpse into traditional Icelandic living. The complex consists of small interconnected buildings with period furniture and utensils, providing insight into the cramped living conditions of the era. Visitors can explore the unique construction style made of dirt, stone, and peat while gaining a sense of life in northern Iceland not long ago.
Definitely worth the time to visit. The history is so interesting and the way they built this place was just crazy to see how they lived back in the late 1800s here. Fun place to visit
Michael C — Google review
Amazing, moving and educational place. It's the ultimate immersive experience as visitors walk through room after room in the complex. Can almost hear and feel what it's like to be living in that time.

Great place with lots of explanations of what the pieces mean. There’s a lot of original items and great staging of the rooms. Totally worth the price of admission and it’s a nice stop on the ring road
Melissa S — Google review
Really enjoyed visiting Glaumbær Turf Farm & Museum! From the outside the turf houses look quite small and simple, but once you step inside you realize it’s like a maze of connected rooms showing how families lived here in the past. It feels very authentic and gives you a real sense of history. One of the coolest surprises is that in one of the rooms there’s an old wardrobe, and hidden inside it are stairs leading up to a secret space upstairs. It feels a bit like stepping into Narnia, but in real life! Discovering details like this makes the visit really fun. The whole site is beautifully kept and the surrounding views are stunning as well. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re exploring the north of Iceland. Take your time here – there’s more to see inside than you might expect from the outside.
Damian K — Google review
Historic turf farm and open air museum offering a glimpse into Iceland’s rural past in North West Iceland. You pay to go into this well maintained museum of turf houses. There’s a gift shop with local souvenirs. It takes about 30 minutes to look at each house. Information is displayed inside each to know what you’re looking at. Of particular interest are the bedrooms with 2 each in little twin beds, for body heat used in winter. Turf allows good insulation by itself as there was no heating. Painted porcelain bowls were used. The assortment of kitchen utensils is impressive.

That's a must go to place, if you're really into Icelandic history. Quite interesting as you get to enter some real and well preserved turf dwellings. There are rooms for everything, from food storage, to repair shops, knitting places, baby rooms, animal housing, you name it. A whole life organized into these well-isolated houses where people lived in the ages where no wood or hard stone was available in this land of fire and ice.

Cute little place. Worth a visit. Staff also very friendly and dressed in what is considered to be ‚traditional folklore‘ I guess. One can discover rural life 200-300 years ago.

If you're thinking of visiting any open-air, living history, or turf museum - this is the one for you. A pamphlet and signs in each room tell you about the layout and purpose of the space. Such a unique concept of housing! Free parking, fair ticket price, restrooms on site.

We were here the day before it opened for the season so we didnt have the opportunity to do more than view it from the fence but its an inviting piece of Icelandic history and worthy of a stop as you pass on by. A small fee of 1000 ISK to visit. Its open June through Aug, T-Su 12-6p.
Ingrid H — Google review
It was closed so we could not visit inside. Rare to see turf covered church, definitely one of the more unique churches in Iceland (and right by Route1)
Malavika K — Google review
Nice little pit stop. Church was closed. On a Sunday. The irony. You can peer in through the windows or just admire the grass construction. Free too, a rarity in Iceland, land of exorbitant parking fees and need a mortgage for a meal.
Simon M — Google review
A lovely little turf church, one of only 6 remaining in Iceland. Closed Mondays but you can still walk around the outside. Worth a visit if travelling route 1. Clean toilets in the parking area are open even if the church is shut 😊

6/1/2025–Beginning June 1st, Open Tuesday-Sunday 1200-1800. Closed Mondays. Admission 1000 kr. Pay inside the church. Lift the latch and go in through the gate. There is a person standing inside to pay & answer questions. It was a lovely quick stop on our drive.
Marlene C — Google review
It was closed but it cost us nothing to walk around the outside. A fun stop to stretch you legs. There also appears to be bathrooms in the parking lot but we did not use them.
Virginia M — Google review
Very nice spot to appreciate one of the most ancient churches in Iceland. You’ll fin bathrooms at the parking.

Visitors can bathe in this geothermal pool surrounded by natural stone & seaside views.
worth the detour! The road is not difficult but keep an eye out for rogue sheep. It’s very reasonable, 2000isk per person. You pay in the main cabin/Cafe. The owner was awesome, very friendly and helpful! There is a small cabin with toilets. A with men’s and women’s changing room and showers. The smaller pool is cooler about 38 but has a really nice view. The bigger pool was around 40-42. There is also a larger hut with a kitchen but we didn’t use it.
Chalane — Google review
Amazing spot, access is through a dirt road away from everything. Pools are amazing, good facilities and very attentive and helpful staff. The best campsite we’ve been in on our week-long travel through Iceland. Worth the effort!
Kevin B — Google review
We had a great time at these thermal pool’s. The natural setting is incredible. We were the only people at the pools for an hour.
Bill L — Google review
Lovely place, the view to sea from pools is obscured though by stone walls. Access to the see is not easy. Facilities are basic, but very ok. The pools were extremely slippery due to algae… how they keep the hygiene level is a question.
Alžběta B — Google review
Such a nice experience! We found this place by chance. The owner was really kind and even gave us a discount due to the weather condition. We were lucky and had the pools to ourselfs. Highlight were two little brown foxes, which sometimes showed up between the rocks. The two pools were 36-38 degrees warm. The view to the mountainside was awesome!
Jana — Google review
Perfect camping spot! Best experience of our whole Iceland trip. Imagine sleeping next to the roaring waves of the Atlantic Ocean and taking a soothing nighttime soak in an real Viking pool with snowy mountains in the backdrop! Afterwards you can eat a slice of warm apple pie with the warmly welcome owner!

Costs 2000 ISK if you are not staying at campsite, which is quite a lot. 1000 would be an ideal price for this place. They dont mention prices when you check on maps.

Best hot spring I’ve been so far in Iceland. We happened to stumble across it and it was the best thing that could’ve happened to us. It wasn’t overly crowded like all the others (we were even alone for a bit), finally a reasonable price (!!) and the location was stunning, surrounded by just nature for quite a bit! 10/10 would recommend!

Hveravellir is a magical geothermal area located on the picturesque Kjölur plateau in Iceland. It offers natural hot springs, one of which is suitable for bathing. Accessible during the summer months, it provides an opportunity to explore the Icelandic highlands and marvel at highlights such as Hveravellir's geothermal area and Askja caldera. The remote northeast region also offers a coastal paradise for birdlife enthusiasts seeking rural beauty.
Very nice geothermal area in the middle of the Highlands on the F35. It steams and whistles and smokes and bubbles that it is a real pleasure. From Selfoss 160 and from Blöndous 113km, partly good gravel, driving time very weather and vehicle dependent. Developed by small visitor center; several shorter hiking trails are established. Some hot springs where you can splash around. Overnight stay possible at campsites and some rooms. Good food!
Thorsten M — Google review
A cool area to visit while traveling through the highlands. Natural hot springs set in an otherwise barren landscape with sheep roaming around. Lots of interesting colors and springs to look at. Easy walking paths through the terrain and picnic benches to sit and enjoy the area while having lunch.
Kev Z — Google review
Incredible place, nice spot. Maybe the hot spot is little bit, bit that's the beauty of nature
Noé — Google review
If you can tough out the rough road to get here it's definitely worth your time. Gorgeous landscape nestled between mountain glaciers with a geothermal field to explore along with a hotpot to soak in and wildlife roaming around. Hveravellir also has private lodging as well as vehicle and tent camping. Hveravellir also has a restaurant that cooks delicious food. Best of all, it's in the middle of nowhere.
Marissa S — Google review
I think it’s a cool place to visit, 500 Isk per person is reasonable for the use of the hot pond and facilities in my opinion, although there were no clearly available showers (but then again we didn’t ask, we just wiped off and changed in the loos) and it’s not exactly mandatory and you definitely aren’t forced to pay it if you’re just walking around. It wasn’t convenient that the outside loos were all locked, we had to go inside. In the hot pond you can regulate the temperature by using two pipes and it was quite perfect when we arrived, lukewarm on one side and very hot on the other so you could move around and decide where you want to be. I would have appreciated a recommendation to not wear jewellery as I didn’t realise the water will ruin my silver rings, hopefully I can fix it with polish when I am home 😬 I have been to several hot ponds and it never happened before so I guess this one has stronger mineral content. Had waffles, they were nice but don’t expect them to be your main meal, they are really dessert sized ;) Overall you can walk around for about 10-30 months minutes and then chill in the hot pond, it’s in the absolute middle of nowhere and it’s a cool experience.
Martina T — Google review
Unique place. I was here twice and I would come again if I am in Iceland. Peaceful, quiet and secluded.

In the middle of road 35, a lovely geothermal region.
Victor L — Google review
Absolutely beautiful location and view. The hospitality however brings the rating way down. The guy running the front desk either hates Americans or black people. Either way he was very rude towards us and extremely friendly with everyone else who entered the reception area while we were sitting in the dining area. We also concluded the water in the pool is maintained to be aggressively hot to keep visitors moving through quickly. While this sounds stupid, they have the ability to cool the pool down with a running stream, but the choice was made to pump in even more scolding water.

Haifoss is a stunning waterfall located in a remote area near a volcano, offering plenty of opportunities for photography. As Iceland's second-highest waterfall, it boasts a magnificent 128m drop from a majestic plateau into an ancient lava canyon. Accessible by 4WD or on foot via Rte 332, the journey leads to a parking area and footpath providing breathtaking views of the falls and canyon.
Beautiful green canyon you can walk up. The waterfall itself is tall and powerful and you can walk behind it. As with many popular sites in Iceland across the past year, parking is now paid for but there are toilets in the museum you can use in return.
Hugo B — Google review
Drive there was really interesting. Would recommend to do it with a 4x4. Stunning view. Maybe this is the tallest waterfall I have seen around Iceland.
Benita B — Google review
Beautiful tall waterfall in a huge valley. Amazing viewpoint at the top of the valley. Bit tricky to reach, as you need to drive 7km on a gravel road but worth it if you have a decent 4x4 and drive carefully.
Khizr I — Google review
Epic epic epic epic epic Make sure you have 4x4 and good driving. We hiked to the bottom and just stood in the mist. You don't get the full scale till your down there and it is so worth that trek. Slightly rough climb but worth every ounce of energy. Truly one of the coolest spots in iceland is the bottom of this waterfalls
Brent Z — Google review
Impressive waterfall, with a majestic point of view from the top. You’ll need a 4x4 to reach the parking but then the view is easily accessible, only have to walk for a few minutes and the parking is free. Definitely worth the trip to quietly enjoy the atmosphere
Amandine R — Google review
A huge and breathtaking falls that is well worth a visit. One of the tallest falls on the island makes this an incredible vista when arriving from above and looking down into the valley. The drive here is a bit rough but was no problem in our rental RAV4 4x4. Plenty of parking when you arrive, but is well subscribed when we visited. After walking along the rim in awe at the magnitude of both falls, we descended into the valley to get a more up close view. The hike gets a bit steep / loose at times, but wasn't too bad in terms of difficulty. I definitely recommend walking down if you have the time for an interesting perspective of the falls from the base. It gets a bit misty, so just be prepared for some moisture.
Kev Z — Google review
Háifoss at 122m high is the 3rd highest waterfall in Iceland and a very popular stop with our clients. Close by is both Hjálparfoss and Gjáin so riding in this area is a feast for the eye 🤩
Arctic T — Google review
Wow, that must be the most majestic waterfall in Iceland!! And that's saying something given how many there are... Was there around 10PM on an early August evening, so around sunset, simply magical, in pure awe in front of this remote nature 😍 Also road 32 is quite a treat with the sunlight getting lower in the sky... And the holy dirt road was actually pretty fun, but I was happy driving there alone and not with the kids who would definitely have been sick :-/ That last section took 15 minutes, with a Dacia Lodger, but I pushed my luck quite a bit (and got lucky) so probably better to count 20 to 30 minutes at a gentle pace to be sure not to mess up the rental! (There was an abandoned car with a totally torn out wheel near the beginning of the path, maybe as a reminder not to push it too hard...)

Gjáin is a picturesque valley filled with small waterfalls, ponds, and lava rocks, offering stunning views of volcanoes. Accessible via a walking path from Stong farm or a challenging 4WD dirt road, the valley is characterized by twisting lava formations, enchanting caves, and magnificent waterfalls. The vibrant river-fed garden of eden boasts an array of colors and landscapes that are truly breathtaking.
Tranquil scenic place with mini waterfalls. Hobbit land For some reason there was a terrifyingly large amount of flies, first time I had to use my midge net. The final section of the road is F road quality, must have 4x4.
Victor L — Google review
There are two parking lots there, one is just on the top of the complex but it's available only with 4x4. If you have a small car, you can park little more far away, and it'll take you additional 15 minutes to reach the waterfalls. The road to this parking lot is good and available for any car (at least in summer). Both lots are free. You can make a round tour to see all waterfalls and pounds, it's about 1 hour walk. It's relatively easy though you need to cross a small river jumping from stone to stone.
Alexandra D — Google review
A wonderful visit on our way to Haifoss. Would rank this as a must see if you are passing through the area. The sights are nestled into a valley and felt like overlooking a picture book or amusement park after arriving. The road can be a little rough at parts on the way here, but was relatively easy to navigate in our RAV4 4x4 rental. After parking, descend into the valley for numerous winding and weaving paths and footbridges to explore the multiple falls. Lots of hidden areas and coves to explore, and overall a very fun visit that I would recommend to others as well.
Kev Z — Google review
Waw!! Not to be missed. Worth a visit if you have a 4x4 or are daring enough to take a standard economy car along the track. The track isn't too bad and we'll worth it. There's a gem of a circular loop (2.5 k) and gives you several vistas of this location and the multiple waterfalls. The car park is free. If you want to ditch the crowds that the larger 'Golden Circle' waterfalls attract and fancy some Lord of the Rings type scenery, then this is for you. Best walk and waterfalls we've seen so far in Iceland ( and we've seen Gulfoss etc.). At this location there's also a Viking turf house under preservation to see. We were very fortunate to happen upon a National Park ranger who offered us a free guided tour of the area. He pointed out loads of local plants and animals including species adaptations along with the geology of the site. Some plants were edible so we're able to sample them too. Double freebie - bonus for Iceland.
Sharon J — Google review
Very cool getting to see a waterfall from inside a cave, but get your pictures quick because with how close you are to the waterfall, the spray will render your camera useless very quickly and there's usually a good amount of people jockeying for the perfect spot. 100% worth it.

This place is a must visit and should be on everybody's Iceland to-do list. You can spend our there exploring every path and take so many pictures!

Langjökull, which means "long glacier," is Iceland's second-largest glacier and a popular destination for outdoor adventure. It offers a vast stretch of ice cap, making it ideal for activities like snowmobiling and hiking while providing stunning winter scenery. Beneath its surface, there are man-made ice caves waiting to be explored, showcasing shimmering blue and silver ice.
Beautiful views! We went in December and it was such a fun place for snow mobile. It is freezing up there so make sure to dress in layers!

Incredible experience unlike anything else. Being inside a glacier is surreal. A must try !
Wi13ll — Google review
Did you know that Iceland has over 400 glaciers? Snowmobiling on the Langjokull glacier was quite a thrilling experience. It feels like a combination of a jetski and a quad bike but the terrain can be so unforgiving that your adrenaline really starts pumping once you start flying down steep slopes of the glacier. Feeling the ice cold rush of wind pierce through your helmet at high speeds felt amazing. It was a very unique experience and an activity I will remember forever. I'm an adrenaline junky so I welcome any activity like this.
Travis D — Google review
Impressive network of tunnels built within the glacier. Unfortunately the glacier is dying and soon will not exist anymore due to the global warming. Visit it as long as you can.
Konstantinos K — Google review
Amazing snowmobiling experience with Mountaineers of Iceland. We both got to drive the snowmobile across ice and snow guided by very experienced guides and completely safe. They give you overalls, gloves, a buff and helmet, plus transport out to the glacier on the big 4WD bus.
Graeme B — Google review
With intotheglacier.is you could actually walk inside Langjokull, Iceland’s second largest glacier for about £140 each (kids free). You rendez vous a couple of hours north of the Golden Circle at quite a sunny campsite (camping did strike me as total madness in this country). You get into vehicle number 1 – an all-terrain bus, and travel over black volcanic scree for miles, up through a killer whale of a landscape. When you arrive at the cargo container “base” at the foot of the glacier, wild wind whips your hair and then tries to throw you on the ground. No one was drinking coffee at the outdoor benches provided but instead clinging to them in an attempt to stay upright. (What was it like in winter?) It was time to kit up into full-on arctic body suits. In a move which turned out to be fairly catastrophic, the boys refused the rubberised boots, assuming that their own were sufficiently waterproof. The next step is to board a semi-aquatic monster truck, whose wheels are only partially inflated so it that it can drive/skate easily over the ice. Then the fog descended and the glacier disappeared. We travelled for an (ice?) age over the glacier itself in a total white out before arriving at a small man-made opening where someone had tunnelled down into the ice, added a chapel and back-lit it in blue. Surreal is not the word. Ice spikes are added to shoes (which is as fiddly as it sounds). And it came to pass that normal walking boots were no match for foot-deep glacial puddles and frozen-toed children became less interested in the glowing ice walls around them. My boots were fine though and I loved it.
Holidays H — Google review
This was one of the few tours we booked in advance and it was definitely worth it. You can't access this area without a tour as you need a special truck drive onto the glacier. Into the Glacier Tours suits you up in their arctic onesie and takes you on a hike inside the glaciers. The ride to Langjokull was just as interesting as you ride this arctic monster truck that inflates and deflates its wheels to adjust its grip while driving on the ice. Incredible tour, highly recommend it.

The fourth highest waterfall in Iceland, Haifoss, with a stunning 122m drop can also be visited nearby along with the natural area of Gjain.
Beautiful falls. Easy to locate on Google maps and plenty of parking. Was not populated at all with tourists. Just be careful if climbing down the rocks to reach the water. Ideal to go on a nice weather day to take some pictures around the area. You will not regret the visit!

Really cool waterfall. I didn't see anything else like this on my trip around the island. Easy and plenty of parking (wasn't crowded at all when we went mid afternoon on Sunday, mid-April 2025). Great views right from the parking lot. This seemed to be a less traveled part of the island, but that could also be attributed to going during the shoulder season.
Jimmer W — Google review
A quick and nice visit on our way out to Haifoss. A good "warmup" that was calm and serene. The 2 falls join together into a wide pool below where 2 people were fishing. A short and interesting walk along the rim to get a few vantage points as well.

With a height of 32m, Gullfoss impresses with its powerful roar and magnificent walls of spray that create shimmering rainbows on sunny days.
Spectacular chasm of waterfalls, it can get very crowded but it gives you enough angles to take beautiful jaw-dropping pictures. Depending on the wind it can get very wet all around, so bring a waterproof jacket and trousers!

Strokkur Geyser is a popular geothermal attraction located in the Geysir area of Iceland. While the old Geysir is inactive, Strokkur erupts every 5-10 minutes, shooting water up to 15-20 meters high. The surrounding area also features other geysers and hot springs, creating an otherworldly landscape for visitors to explore.
Nice hot springs and geyser. It shoots every 5-8 minutes and is short. Worth the wait to get it on camera as I missed it the first time. Great view from the top of the mountain. Free to see. Does cost to park. Also has a nice give shop and snack bar.

A must-see stop on any trip to Iceland!

Strokkur Geyser is an incredible natural wonder that erupts every few minutes, shooting hot water high into the air—it never fails to amaze! The anticipation builds with each bubbling surge. Easy to access, well-marked paths, and surrounded by stunning geothermal scenery. A true Iceland highlight!
Ryan B — Google review
The Strkkur Geyser is certainly something to see if you've never seen see anything like this before. I did feel a little bit underwhelmed, but that's just me. It is amazing how the water heats up and bubbles away. The Geysir Centre across the road has toilets, food, drink and the standard souvenir shop. They have cold weather clothing for sale, but be prepared for the high price! Worth the trip and recommend a visit, but don't worry about FOMO if you don't.
W Q — Google review
Strokkur Geyser was absolutely beautiful! I visited in January, so it was quite cold, but there are nearby buildings where you can warm up for a bit between eruptions. Such a stunning natural wonder — I’m really glad I went!
Savanah E — Google review
The Geyser was great. I do recommend to view the map at the bottom of the upper trail to see which is the most active geyser as there are a few of them. And if you have time I do recommend the trail. It is lovely and beautiful scenery. Only cost was parking if you drove yourself.
Geovanny M — Google review
Several geysers are scattered throughout this area, but the largest and most active one is Strokkur, which erupts every seven to ten minutes. After the first eruption, it often erupts again about 15 to 20 seconds later, so if you stay and wait, you can witness a second burst. Around the geyser, tourists stand ready with their cameras to capture the perfect moment, but it’s best not to wait on the downwind side. In strong winds, there’s a chance that the hot water from the eruption could be blown toward you.
HiDe86 — Google review
The undeniable star of the Haukadalur geothermal area, and witnessing it erupt feels almost unreal no matter how many times you’ve seen it on video. The geyser erupts every few minutes, often shooting a column of boiling water impressively high into the air, sometimes more than once in quick succession. The anticipation and the sudden burst make it a fun experience for both casual visitors and photographers. It’s an easy, flat walk from the main paths, and you can get fairly close as long as you respect the barriers. The ground around the geyser is extremely hot and fragile, so staying on marked trails is important for your safety and for preserving the area. Steam and sulfur smells are part of the experience, and depending on the wind, you might catch some spray, so keep your camera protected and maybe stand slightly off to the side if you want the best view without getting misted. Crowds gather quickly, especially right before an eruption, so arriving early in the morning or later in the evening makes it much more enjoyable. Once you’re there, give yourself time to watch several eruptions; each one is different and sometimes the second or third burst is the most dramatic. The combination of geothermal colors, the bubbling pool before eruption, and the wild Icelandic backdrop makes this one of the most memorable stops on the Golden Circle.

Strokkur Geyser was absolutely beautiful! I visited in January, so it was quite cold, but there are nearby buildings where you can warm up for a bit between eruptions. Such a stunning natural wonder — I’m really glad I went!

The Geyser was great. I do recommend to view the map at the bottom of the upper trail to see which is the most active geyser as there are a few of them. And if you have time I do recommend the trail. It is lovely and beautiful scenery. Only cost was parking if you drove yourself.

Geysir is a renowned hot spring located in the geothermal area of Haukadalur Valley, in southwest Iceland. This attraction is part of the Golden Circle and features hot springs, active geysers, and boiling mud pits. It's less than a two-hour drive from the capital city of Reykjavik. The area also offers dining options such as Geysir Bistro and opportunities to explore nearby attractions like the Icelandic Phallological Museum.
Good place to see geysers here. There is a big one 20m every 4-7 minutes and a small 1m almost continuous one. If you want to see many more and much bigger ones go to Yellowstone.

An amazing geothermal area that reminded me a lot of of the old faithful area of Yellowstone. While the original Geysir is no longer active, there is another one named Strokker that does erupt on a regular basis. We saw several eruptions while we were there, and it seems every other one is big and the in between ones are rather small. There is a nice walking trail that takes you through boiling pools and steam vents as well. Plenty of parking, and a large restaurant and gift shop here as well.

Geysir in Iceland was an incredible natural wonder to witness. Watching the Strokkur geyser erupt every few minutes was both powerful and mesmerizing — the burst of boiling water shooting into the sky against the Icelandic landscape was unforgettable. The surrounding geothermal area with steaming vents and colorful hot springs felt like being on another planet. It’s easy to access, well-maintained, and definitely one of the must-see spots on the Golden Circle route.

🌫️📸 Iconic spot but very touristy The geyser is impressive and definitely something to see at least once. The eruptions can reach a surprising height. But the area felt very crowded and touristy. I think geysers are more magical in quieter, less busy places. Still, it’s a famous site for a reason.

Crowded. But still a lot of fun! Parking was easy. Great gift shop with options to eat. The paths were super well maintained and accessible. The walk up the hill was great with a beautiful view, surrounded with lupin.

I thought this was just going to be a geyser that a ton of people waited to see erupting, but it’s a fantastic beautiful area full of steam and springs and the star or the show the Strokkur geyser gifting us an eruption every 4-10 minutes. It was ADORABLE to see people clapping and cheering at the geyser, so happy and proud of her!!!! Adorable. And the walk is beautiful and it’s great to get thermal steam in your face and lungs. I loved this

Remarkable, entertaining, well kept, and easy to navigate. There are geysers of all sizes and shapes, some barely bubbling while others are shooting tens of meters high. The olace is sufficiently compact than you can easily walk through the import parts. The visitor center is one of the most well equiped of all of Iceland touristic spots. Not to be missed
