Gilindire Cave

National reserve
Nature & Parks
Caverns & Caves
Subterranean cavern with stalagmites, stalactites & a reflective lake, accessed by boat or on foot.
It's one of the best caves in turkey. Massive, mystical and full of wonders. It starts from the top of the cliff and goes down till the sea. There is a huge fresh water lake inside the cave floating between the sea and the top of the mountain
AHNAF R — Google review
Hey there! If you're ever in Turkey near Mersin, you should totally check out Gilindire Cave, also called "Mirrored Lake Cave." It's a pretty amazing natural place. Inside, you'll see these super cool rock formations called stalactites and stalagmites. They've been forming for ages, and with the special lighting, they look really awesome. Just a heads-up, though, it can get super humid in there, so be prepared for that! But the best part is definitely the clear lake at the very back. It's so still that it perfectly reflects everything, making it look like a mirror. Seriously, it's a great spot for photos! Getting around inside is pretty easy thanks to the stairs and walkways, which are generally good for walking. However, there are quite a few steps, so it can be a bit tiring, especially on the way back up. Scientists have even found stuff here from the Ice Age, which is pretty neat. So, if you're into nature and seeing something a bit different, Gilindire Cave is definitely worth a visit. You won't regret seeing this hidden gem!
Zerdesh R — Google review
Breathtaking views scenery both outside and inside must see. Entry fee as of today was 19TL definitely with it. I recommend once inside cave go all the way down first then slowly come back up enjoying cave views as straight up can be tiring. Great lake view at bottom.
Ayse O — Google review
Really beautiful drive and Goodview right before the entrance entrance fee 60 liras which equals $1.50 Lots and lots of stairs that trip starts going down it ends in a lake down the cave but you have to get all the way up upset stairs after finishing Really hot comparing to the average temperature outside,, especially because of the stairs Going down there and up back it takes around 45 minutes Friendly guy in the tickets place
Ahmad M — Google review
I have visited Carlsbad caverns in New Mexico and Waitomo caves in New Zealand. The Gilindire caves in my opinion are much more enjoyable caves to visit. Inside the caves is a very well designed walkway and stairs the entire length/depth. The cave descends probably down to sea level and terminates at a platform overlooking a large crystal clear pool. You can hear bats 🦇 in the cave but I couldn’t spot them. In spring of 2025 the cost to see the cave was 60TL or $2 USD. Staff are exceptionally friendly and welcoming! If it’s the middle of summer it would be a nice thing to do to escape the heat. I’ll definitely come back and visit.
Joshua R — Google review
Very impressive, not cold inside, water surface lays by -47meters to sea level, 560 steps down, amazing lights inside, really cheap entrance
Mikhail V — Google review
Worth to see. More than 70 m depth. Very high humidity. And a lake at the bottom. Nor for everyone.
Mustafa A — Google review
Also known as Aynalıgöl Cave, Gilindire Cave is located 7.5 km southeast of Aydıncık district, between Sancak Burnu and Kurtini Creek. The cave, whose entrance faces the sea, can be reached from the sea and land. The Gilindire Cave, which is 351 meters long in total, is a horizontally developed cave. The inside of the Gilindire Cave, which is right on the edge of one of the beautiful bays of the Mediterranean, is covered with all kinds of dripstone formations. These stalactites, which have reached enormous sizes and are extremely beautiful in appearance, have divided the main gallery into many halls and rooms. In addition, the large lake at the end of the cave and the stalactites, stalagmites, columns, walls, curtain dripstones and cave needles that form islands on the edge of this lake have turned the cave into a fascinating environment.

We stopped at Tsangarides Winery for some wine tasting whilst exploring the local area. They had a beautiful terrace that looked out over the vineyard and surrounding valley – a lovely spot to enjoy some fantastic wines. The tasting was extremely good value and very generous. All the wines were enjoyable, and it was nice to try their local grape varieties. We also bought a bottle of their Chardonnay as it was delicious. Overall, we had a great visit and I would highly recommend a visit.

What a magical experience.. We spent nearly two hours listening to the story of the winery and tasting maybe all their wines.Every body here is so charming. We loved the Xinistery and Mataro for the most.I really recommend visit the winery. You won't forget it
Haim G — Google review
Stunning views and delicious wine! We did a wine tasting and every single wine we loved, and the price was amazing. Our server was so friendly and was very knowledgeable on the wines, we also had a cheese and fruit platter which was lovely with the wines. Also some cute cats patrolling the winery but they tend to keep to themselves. Would recommend so much! There is parking opposite the winery. We bought many bottles of wine to take home to our family and friends.
Jessica H — Google review
What a lovely late lunch, cheese platter wine tasting, excellent service and ambience even on such a hot day it was relaxing and refreshing. The wines were great value and batting well above some more expensive alternatives. The organic white Vasillas was delicious and the Syrah Dry was a revelation!
Teri A — Google review
Delightful spot, well priced tasty wines, good service. Took the 639 bus from Paphos to Lemona for €4 each return. Had 90 mins to enjoy a short tour, the wine tasting and cheese board before getting on the 2.30pm bus back to Paphos. Thanks to Valter for your hospitality!
Sophie C — Google review
I’ve been to many wineries in many countries. This is by far the most beautiful one I’ve been to. Not easy to get to and off the beaten track, but do not miss it. Wines are amazing, service excellent and you get to see the whole place with patience and explanations. And can’t beat the prices - both for tasting and for buying bottles to take home
Ben S — Google review
It was a great experience, everyone is super friendly. We had a wine tasting which includes 5 wines. They all tastes really good and he also tells you something about the wines. We would defenitely recommend this winery.
Elvira K — Google review
The winery is located on a side of a hill with wonderful views of the area. Wines are to dive for and the cheese and fruit platter perfect to go with the wine.

Holy Monastery of the Virgin Mary of Kykkos

Specialty Museums
Kykkos Monastery is a historic complex situated on a lush mountain peak and renowned for its precious Virgin Mary icon. Founded in the 11th century, it has faced destruction from fires over the years, but the current grand structure dates back to 1831. Visitors are advised to arrive early due to increasing crowds later in the day and should dress modestly, although cover-up clothing is available. The monastery features stunning paintings and artwork, with a museum showcasing historical pieces.
A place of peace and beauty. We drove from Paphos, and the roads are challenging. The journey took about 1h 40m, but it was so worth it. The monastery has a museum that is so well presented and kept that it rivals some countries' national museums. I can not state enough just how absolutely jaw-dropping it is.
The L — Google review
It's beautiful, but it didn't leave a big impression. It's convenient if you don't want to/can't go up, there's a golf cart that takes you almost right to the temple, and it goes back and forth all day.
Lina G — Google review
Amazing paintings and architecture. Everything inside and outside was spectacularly well preserved. Monastery lacks intimacy of other more hidden sites, but it makes it up by the scale of wealth and arts inside. There's 5 euro museum inside, we didn't go in, the "free" part was more than enough.
Adam B — Google review
The nicest Monastery I have ever seen. 5Euro entrance but I would pay 20, it is so well kept and rich. Highly recommended.
Ildiko T — Google review
Beautiful tranquil place. Long winding mountain roads to get there but definitely worth the trip. The mosaics and artwork are beautiful. There is a restaurant and tourist shops opposite the Monastry and a small snack/drink shop at the entrance. Robes are available, as you need to be covered to enter - no bare shoulders or shorts/short skirts for women. It is free to look around. There is a museum which costs 5€ per person (free for children 12 and under) which has a host of religious artefacts and further information about the Monastry and its formation.
Jordy C — Google review
I loved this place. The mosiacs were fabulous. There are many historical artifacts in the museum, ticket entry required. We'll worth taking the time to explore. When visiting, please remember it is a holy place and should be treated with reverence and respect. If you don't, expect to be shouted at or thrown out: Ladies, cover up exposed breasts, midriff, and thighs. Guys, wear a shirt or short sleeved tee shirt and long shorts or trousers. It was embarrassing to see this happen. And remember to respect the wishes of the monastery and not take photos inside the church.
Christine ( — Google review
Kykkos Monastery is truly an awe-inspiring destination, a magnificent testament to Orthodox faith and a must-visit for anyone traveling to Cyprus. Nestled high in the Troodos Mountains, it offers not just spiritual solace but also breathtaking vistas that stretch across the island's rugged beauty. From the moment you begin your ascent through the winding mountain roads, the journey to Kykkos Monastery is an experience in itself. As you reach its elevated position, said to be on one of the highest peaks, the air becomes crisp and the panoramic views are nothing short of spectacular. It's a truly amazing and breathtaking setting that instantly connects you with the serene and powerful presence of nature. For anyone with an appreciation for Orthodox Christianity, Kykkos Monastery is iconic. It is one of the wealthiest and most significant monasteries in Cyprus, renowned throughout the Orthodox world. Stepping inside, you are immediately enveloped in a rich tapestry of history, art, and devotion. The monastery is famed for its incredible collection of icons, particularly the miraculous icon of Panagia Eleousa (the "All-Merciful" Mother of God), which is believed to have been painted by St. Luke the Evangelist himself. While the main icon is traditionally veiled out of reverence, the sheer number and intricate beauty of the other icons, frescoes, and mosaics adorning the monastery's walls and chapels are simply stunning. The gilded woodwork and vibrant religious artwork create an atmosphere of profound spirituality and artistic grandeur. Beyond the main monastery, a short drive or walk uphill leads to the "Throni of Panagia," where a large statue of the Virgin Mary stands, and the tomb of Archbishop Makarios III, Cyprus's first president, who began his ecclesiastical career here. This spot offers even more expansive views and a deeper sense of the monastery's historical and cultural significance. Kykos Monastery is more than just a religious site; it's a cultural treasure that encapsulates the heart and soul of Cyprus. The sense of peace, the historical depth, and the sheer beauty of its location make it an unforgettable experience. Whether you are a devout follower, an art enthusiast, or simply seeking a place of profound beauty and tranquility, Kykkos Monastery will leave you with a lasting impression. It is truly awesome.
Chgham G — Google review
Kykkos Monastery is one of the most stunning and spiritually rich landmarks in Cyprus. Nestled in the Troodos Mountains, the monastery offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a deep sense of reverence and awe. The architecture is magnificent, blending traditional Byzantine design with intricate artistic detail. What truly stands out are the beautiful mosaics and paintings of the saints that adorn the walls and ceilings. Each image is rich in color and symbolism, telling stories of faith and devotion that span centuries. The charm and craftsmanship of these artworks are simply captivating. The monastery also houses a small but powerful museum filled with religious artifacts, ancient manuscripts, and priceless icons — including one believed to have been painted by St. Luke himself. The atmosphere is serene, and the sense of history is overwhelming. Whether you're religious or simply interested in culture and art, Kykkos Monastery is a must-visit. The drive up is scenic and peaceful, and the spiritual energy of the site leaves a lasting impression. It's a perfect place to reflect, admire, and connect with Cyprus' rich Orthodox heritage.

This large rock formation off a pebbly beach is the birthplace of Aphrodite in Greek mythology.
Beautiful beach with interesting rock formations. There’s a big and free parking lot nearby. The stairs down to the beach are not too slippery and once you arrive at the beach, it’s indeed very beautiful. We were lucky because there were not too many tourist (we were there at around 10:30), so we could enjoy the place and take some photos. You can also come and stay at the beach, although it’s rather rocky, so we just came for a quick visit and admire the views.
André M — Google review
The Stone of Romeo is absolutely stunning! It’s a beautiful coastline, and pure natural beauty that leaves you in awe. It’s a very photogenic place that I’ve visited in Paphos. The only downside was the waste bin there: it was full, overflowing, and clearly not well maintained. It detracts a little from an otherwise perfect experience. Still, the scenery more than makes up for it, and hopefully the authorities clean up the bin situation so visitors can enjoy the beauty without that eyesore.
Kristina P — Google review
Nice place to set on beach and enjoy the view. Free entrance and parking. No lifeguards, seats nor umbrellas. Some people swim but the beach has many rocks.
Marco T — Google review
Beautiful and iconic place with amazing views and rich mythology. The beach is rocky but very scenic, especially around sunset. It’s worth a visit for the atmosphere and photo opportunities. However, there are no facilities nearby, and the sea can be rough for swimming. Still, a great stop if you’re exploring the area. It is free and northern need to buy and tickets

What a magical place! Just to imagine that a millenial legend was born there is priceless. Beautiful place, and the access was fun. We got there at 8:30 and it was nearly empty, coaches started arriving a couple of hours later.
Mariana W — Google review
A little walk down to the rock from the shop at the top where the car park is it very hot go early morning or late in the evening the beach down there is always quite empty. You could do some sunbathing. It’s very nice.

According to ancient legends, Cyprus is the birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite (the most beautiful of the goddesses). 🤵‍♀️ I managed to reach the beautiful beach🌊 of Aphrodite and admire the place where she was born from the sea foam. At least according to some mythological sources.

An impressive historical bridge with stunning views! Varda Köprüsü, also known as the German Bridge, is a masterpiece of early 20th-century engineering. The surrounding nature is beautiful, and watching the trains pass over the high arches is unforgettable. A must-see spot for history lovers, photographers, and anyone visiting Tarsus or Adana.

Safety warning. You need to drive carefully to this place, the road is narrow, after driving for an hour in a narrow road you will be reaching a cafe where you can rest and enjoy the view of the bridge. Only sandwiches and drinks, no kebap lol. We left the area and had our nice grilled sucuk at ( Tekir Zirve Restaurant), located on the top of the mountain where the view is also amazing.

I really like this place. There are lots of cafe's and lots of shops. I went to the amusement park at marina twice, it was fun but I do wish for it to have more Rollercoasters and rides. There's not much when you go there and the roller coaster train isn't even that fast or scary. But I really like It there. 👍

The ruins of a former monastery. They still house a small church. All in all, nothing "wow"... The area is beautiful, clean, full of greenery and flowers. In addition, from the monastery courtyard you have a very beautiful panorama, with the sea and Kyrenia visible in the distance. There is also a restaurant, adjacent to the monastery.

Bit different from the normal ruins. The restaurant, bar and cafe is attached to the abbey so I felt a bit strange but it's a popular place for locals because of that. Therefore there is shuttle bus service, 30 TL for a single ticket, very easy access and a nice view. There are nice hotels and restaurants. You can take a bus from a big parking space. There's some signboards there.

Kourion Beach

Mentioned on

Beach
Outdoor Activities
Kourion Beach, located near Limassol, boasts a lengthy stretch of sandy shoreline with crystal-clear shallow waters. The beach can be easily accessed by car or bus and offers free parking as well as reasonably priced sunbeds and umbrellas. Though the sand holds some cigarette butts and small debris, the water is stunningly beautiful with a rocky entry that leads to soft sand.
Kourion Beach is my favourite. It is a lovely, long sandy beach, in a beautiful location. The Chris Blue restaurant is excellent with very good facilities. Toilets, showers, etc. And a great menu. The beach is popular with families with young children. And it's big enough to accommodate people wanting a quiet spot, too. The water is clean, and it's easy to walk into the sea with a long, gentle slope. What more can you ask for.
Debbie C — Google review
It's a beautiful pebbled beach but if you don't like the wind and the waves, it may not be for you. I spent days on this beach as a younger person so its really nice to reconnect- I still picked up rubbish people leave behind, just as I did 30 yrs ago. If you go to the very right of the beach where the clifs are, you maybe lucky to see this "Virgin and the Child" rock formation... to me, She is very obvious here 🥰
Amazing G — Google review
Lovely beach, sunbeds available, not many stones on the beach. It's shallow to walk onto the sea. Lovely bar restaurant nearby with fresh and good portions of food. Plenty of parking spaces
Gulnara C — Google review
Very nice beach. Cliffs surrounding the beach look beautiful. There is a big free car park just in front of the beach. The water in July was very warm. There are many sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach which you have to pay for. There is also a nice restaurant there and toilets. The beach is very clean.
Dominik — Google review
This beach was trully beautiful. While going to the beach, we recommend to visit also the archielogical site of Kourion. The view is breathtaking, as the attached picture. We went from Limassol using line 16.

Best beach in Limassol!! By far! Hopefully they don’t ruin this one too! Can get wavy though! And sometimes ultra busy!!
Charlie K — Google review
Nice beach, lot of watersport, warm sea even for mid october (around 25°C)
Robert R — Google review
The beach is worthy of praise, perhaps not very convenient for adults, but children have a lot of fun playing in the waves and with pebbles

Büyük Han

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Located in North Nicosia, Cyprus, Büyük Han is a prime example of medieval Ottoman craftsmanship and architecture. Built in the early 1570s at the request of the island's first Ottoman governor, it has undergone recent renovations and now hosts traditional shops and handicraft workshops. Originally a caravanserai for weary travelers along the Silk Road, Büyük Han is now a celebrated landmark and arts and crafts market with a central café.
Büyük Han is an absolutely charming and truly remarkable place to visit. Stepping inside feels like travelling back in time, as it beautifully showcases the old Cypriot culture and traditional architecture. The historic stone courtyard, lined with little shops and artisan workshops, creates a warm and authentic atmosphere that is hard to find elsewhere. It’s a wonderful spot to wander around, soak up the history, and enjoy a coffee or traditional sweets while surrounded by centuries-old arches and stone walls. Every corner tells a story, and you can really feel the heritage of the island here. Whether you’re interested in history, local crafts, or simply want to experience the unique charm of old Cyprus, Büyük Han is an absolute must-visit.

Wow - this is an amazing place to visit. Entering the building feels like travelling back in time - with the old Cypriot culture and traditional architecture. The stone courtyard, lined with little shops and artisan workshops, is terrific. It’s a good spot to enjoy a coffee or traditional sweet, while surrounded by centuries-old arches and stone walls. Büyük Han is a must-visit.

Built in 1572 by the Ottomans, supposedly to celebrate the successful taking over of the islands from the Venetians, the Buyuk Han (the Great Inn in Turkish) is now a large bazaar on the Turkish Cypriot side of Nicosia / Lefkosia, with a small mosque in its centre. It has that singular oriental vibe imbued within it, so visiting it is a truly specific experience highly recommended to anyone visiting the northern part of the divided city. Some very interesting items are on display that can be bought here for very affordable prices. Although, if you're supposed to cross the border over back to the southern side, I'm not sure whether there would be any issues with the border patrol. Still, a site very much worth visiting.
Nikola R — Google review
Büyük Han is one of the most impressive historical landmarks in the heart of Nicosia. Built in 1572 during the Ottoman period, it is beautifully preserved and offers a real sense of history. The courtyard is wide and atmospheric, surrounded by stone arches and traditional architecture. Inside, there are small artisan shops, souvenir stores, and cozy cafés. Sitting in the courtyard with a coffee is a very relaxing experience. The entrance is free, and the location is very central, just a short walk from Ledra Street and the main attractions of the old town. It can get busy on weekends, so coming earlier in the day is a good idea. Overall, it’s both a cultural and relaxing spot — definitely a must-visit for anyone coming to North Cyprus.
Aren S — Google review
An unexpected surprise! The han is superbly renovated with small artisanal shops all over. We loved its vibe and the fact that you can get a coffee inside as well (even though those umbrellas look awful)
Bogdan H — Google review
Absolutely a must see on this side of the capital. It's a calm oasis, with lots of small shops and a cafe in the middle to drink some turkish coffee/tea. Good prices and kind staff too

Great traditional coaching inn now housing small arts and crafts units and a decent size bar/restaurant. You need €1 to use the loos. We have bought several quaint items here over the years.

Ledra street checkpoint.

Customs office
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Ledra Street border crossing, located in Nicosia, is a significant checkpoint between the Greek and Turkish parts of the city. Since the demolition of the wall in 2008, UN peacekeeping soldiers now patrol this area. Visitors can walk into the northern part of the city by presenting their passports to immigration officials. The atmosphere here carries a sense of melancholy due to its historical significance. Once across, tourists will find an array of shops offering various brands at affordable prices.
During my trip to Cyprus, the highlight was visiting Nicosia, the world's last divided capital. Walking around the city, you can sense the deep history and the effects of the 1974 conflict between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, which resulted in the creation of the UN buffer zone called the Green Line. As you follow the Green Line, you’ll see guard posts, bunkers, barriers, barbed wire, and soldiers, all clear signs of the division. However, you’ll also come across beautiful churches, historic buildings, and the Archbishop’s Palace, which add cultural depth to the experience. Crossing the Green Line, you’ll notice a shift in culture. Ledra Street, a lively shopping area, provides a cheerful contrast to the more serious atmosphere along the Green Line. You can easily spend half a day wandering through the old city, enjoying the mix of history and modern life. If you’re up for it, you can cross the Green Line at one of the approved points to explore the northern part of the city via Ledra Street.
Muhammad C — Google review
Very interesting crossing point from the Greek part to the Turkish part of Nicosia.Friendly officers that check your passport on both the Greek and Turkish zones of Cyprus. It is known as the only divided capital in the world as shown above Greek Cypriot Police Checkpoint on the sign above.Very different on the Turkish part of Nicosia and hence Cyprus. Many different shops selling lot's of different brands at very cheap prices.Fascinating and intriguing being on the Turkish part of Nicosia and hence Cyprus.Only there very briefly for around 30 mins due to tight connection with Intercity bus from Nicosia to Limassol although I very much enjoyed the experience very much.
Suhail K — Google review
Now this is a good experience. For those of you that are interested. Travelled from the Turkish side (trnc) much more to see on this side than the south. You can more or less travel the green line. Passports have to be shown now to cross both ways. Not as good as 10 years ago as things on the northern side weren’t done up (cafes etc). History lovers will love it
John S — Google review
Very easy to get either way once through into north there are lots of shops and eating places much cheaper than the greek side coffees for 1 euro. No photos of actual crossing point as its illegal. They accept all currencies so no need to change money

Its the second time I have been there and nothing reminds me the first time that i was excited many stores ,people all around ,coffee shops, Everything is different many stores have been closed ,coffee shops where closed , not much people ...dont know ...

Kolossi Castle, a 15th-century fortress with an extensive history of rulers including King Richard the Lionheart who married Lady Berengaria there, is a must-see landmark. This well-preserved castle boasts dungeons, original fireplaces and a mural of the crucifixion. The grounds include a church, aqueduct and an ancient tree over 1000 years old.
Very beautifull! When we arrived it was just us. This place makes you feel like you’ve travelled back in time and you can imagine how life was back then! The detailed descriptions and pictures inside help you envision how people were living back then! Even if it’s quite small, it’s a must visit!
Patricia P — Google review
Small castle with not much to see. We hoped to find some stores nearby selling the Commandaria wine, but we didn’t find any. Easy free parking. The entrance fee was 4,5 euros per adult. Some steps inside so not wheelchair friendly. The views from the top are also a little disappointing with all the construction around. You’ll maybe spend around 20 minutes here.
André M — Google review
Great place to explore. Castle is restored enough to walk around, all the way to the roof top tower.interesting facts about the castle are written on boards all around the castle.you can walk around the grounds aswell.2.50 euro each to go in the castle Toilets, shop and a cafe next to the ticket office.the man who was in the ticket office was very helpful and we found out he used to live near Birmingham, UK, and owned a chip shop!which we know of!
Suzy — Google review
It was an interesting castle. I wouldn't call it a must see, though. If you only have limited time, I'd prioritize Kourion. But definitely still worth a quick visit here too, if you have the time.
Andrew T — Google review
The castle as a structure is well preserved, but its empty inside. It also lacks any descriptions or multimedia materials that would tell you the story behind it. Worth lobbing by, but don't expect anything remarkable.
Adam B — Google review
A reasonable stop if you are going past, but not worth going out of your way for. There's not much to it, but what there is is interesting. It won't take more than half an hour to go round, but it is well priced for that.
Jon C — Google review
Built in 1454 this is another must see historical landmark while visiting Cyprus, the site was once used by the Knight Templar and has a fascinating history dating back to the early 1300s, it's wonderfully preserved having great views from the top, id definitely recommend a visit
Jason G — Google review
Get to the top, and you really understand why the castle was built here. The spiral stairs are brutal and do not favour those with mobility issues or easily fatigued. The entrance fee is 2.50 euro and worth every cent.

Tarsus Waterfall, located in Mersin, Turkey, is a popular tourist spot known for its stunning natural beauty. The waterfall was formed when the Berdan Stream changed its course in the 5th century, creating an impressive cascade that attracts visitors with its enthusiastic appearance, especially in spring. Surrounded by dense forests and lush vegetation, the waterfall offers public viewing platforms and restaurant options where visitors can enjoy a bite amidst the fragrant jasmines and tranquil waters.
We visited here as part of our trip to Tarsus and really enjoyed it. Access is through a restaurant, although we did not stop to eat. Entrance is completely free as is the large car park. The waterfall is wide and beautiful, but the part we liked the most was the friendly atmosphere from the locals. There are picnic tables set up around the viewing site and they were packed with local people coming here to have a picnic breakfast, and were also singing and dancing, in fact they invited us to share their breakfast and dance with them. There is a duck pond outside with a waterfall which also connects to the main falls. We'll worth going and bring a picnic!

The view of the falls is fantastic.. You definitely must see and take pictures when you're in adana or mersin it takes only 30 to 40 minutes to get there by car.

Tarsus Şelalesi is a waterfall located in Mersin, Turkey. It is a popular tourist attraction in the region, known for its picturesque setting and natural beauty. The waterfall is located in the Tarsus district of Mersin, and it is surrounded by dense forests and lush vegetation. It is fed by the Berdan River, which flows down from the mountains and through the forests before plunging over the edge of the waterfall. The waterfall is approximately 30 meters tall, and it is a popular spot for swimming, picnicking, and hiking. There are also several restaurants and cafes located near the waterfall, offering a range of local dishes and refreshments.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Machairas Monastery, established in the 12th century, is located in a remote mountainous area and boasts picturesque panoramic views. The journey to reach this destination is breathtaking, with beautiful hills and interesting points of interest along the way. Visitors are encouraged not to miss this rare opportunity, as it offers an unforgettable experience during winter with light snow on the slopes. This peaceful location features a main room adorned with paintings and ornaments that are highly enjoyable to visit.
One of the most beautiful monasteries in Cyprus. The Monastery sits high in the hills of Cyprus (around an hour from Larnaca). Its white walls and red roofs stand out against the green hillsides, creating a peaceful and inviting atmosphere. As you approach, you pass through a simple stone archway into a quiet courtyard, where flowers and olive trees add to the sense of calm. The cobblestone path leads you to the main church, where the famous icon of the Virgin Mary is kept. This icon, believed to have been painted by St. Luke, is beautifully decorated with silver and gold, and it draws visitors from around the world who come to pray and find peace. This monastery with its 1000 years of history, is a place of quiet reflection, offering a glimpse into Cyprus's rich spiritual heritage.
RJS — Google review
Beautiful and well maintained place with kind and helpful monks and staff. Herbs and flowers are very high quality and beautiful, not to mention that the on-site shop offers a huge variety of products, produced by monks. Oils, teas and tinctures are high quality. The church is beautifully maintained and open to the public without any fee, this is rare in Europe. Unfortunately pictures are not allowed inside the monastery but that is the magic of the place. Mountain roads are well maintained and but dangerous regardless.
Balázs B — Google review
I’ve never experienced anything like this before. Machairas Monastery is not just an old church in the mountains — it’s a place where something shifts inside you. As soon as I walked in, I felt like time stopped. Suddenly, I started crying — without any clear reason. No words, just silent tears. It was a deep, pure emotion I couldn’t explain. There’s a powerful stillness here. Real monks, ancient icons, and the sense that you’re touching something sacred. The small shop offers oils, herbs, candles, icons, and prayers — many of them with healing or spiritual qualities. This place stays with you. You just want to be quiet, listen, and be grateful.
Oksana O — Google review
The Monastery is a piece of heaven. The place is very calm and quiet. I did not stay too much as this is a place to pray and I did not want to disturb the monks. This is the place to stay a couple of days if possible to rebuild the connection with God.

A beautiful Orthodox monastery nestled in the mountains. Men in shorts are given a robe to cover up. Only the church (a glorious sanctuary full of reverence and splendour) and the gift shop are accessible. No photos allowed in the church area. The shop sells icons, literature, honey, jewellery, Greek literature and more.
Steve G — Google review
The Holy Monastery of Panagia Machaira is one of Cyprus’s most significant and picturesque monastic sites, nestled in the lush Troodos Mountains near the village of Lazanias. Founded in the 12th century during the Byzantine period, the monastery is dedicated to the Virgin Mary (Panagia) and takes its name from the miraculous discovery of her icon, said to have been revealed to two hermits by divine guidance and freed from a cave by a “machaira” (knife) — hence the name Machaira. What distinguishes this monastery is its sacred icon of the Virgin Mary Machairiotissa, attributed to Saint Luke the Evangelist, which has been venerated for centuries as a source of blessings and protection. The monastery has long served as a spiritual refuge and cultural stronghold, playing an important role in the island’s religious and national history. Architecturally, Panagia Machaira blends Byzantine and monastic simplicity, featuring stone walls, wooden balconies, and a peaceful courtyard surrounded by forested slopes. Inside, visitors can admire beautiful frescoes, gilded iconostasis, and monastic treasures, all reflecting the deep devotion and artistic craftsmanship of Cyprus’s Orthodox tradition. Today, the Holy Monastery of Panagia Machaira remains an active religious center, home to a small community of monks who preserve its centuries-old traditions. Its serene setting, rich heritage, and enduring spirituality make it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the sacred heart of Cyprus.

It’s a beautiful Orthodox monastery tucked away in the mountains. If you’re a guy wearing shorts, they’ll give you a robe to cover up. You can only go into the church — which is stunning and full of reverence — and the gift shop. No photos are allowed inside the church. The shop has icons, books, honey, jewelry, Greek literature, and a bunch of other interesting things.

It was a lovely 1 hour drive from Nicosia. The drive through the winding, twisty road through the Machairas Mountains was breath taking. Its Spring time & all the terraced fields were shades of green. The almond trees were starting to burst in to flower. The air was crisp & fresh. We arrived at the Monastery just before the start of Orthodox Lent. The monks were preparing the Church and grounds. You can feel the sacredness of this place. Full of peace, calm, beauty & sanctity.

My partner and I have been here a few times and have always found it very quiet and peaceful (probably the main reason we visit.) The water is very shallow a long way out, which makes it ideal if you have small children. Note the beach has a lot of small rocks and other beach debris at the waters edge, so be mindful of running into the sea. It's also a very open beach, so it traps the wind. I've seen many people chasing inflatables, unbrellas and towels down the beach!!

Loved this beach, where we found a parking spot we walked down a short ways from the cliff down to the water. It was right below a restaurant who sold chairs and umbrellas for 2.5 euro a piece. The water was nice, not too crowded, had a reef for snorkeling and the sand / rocks were easy for your feet to enjoy the water The food at the restaurant was nice, they bring food down too I believe because someone had a menu.
David H — Google review
A relaxing place with nice views. Thought you need to avoid looking at the industrial site not to ruin the beauty of the landscape. We went there on 8th of April but it was a bit chilly, still it’s worth the visit.
Naz G — Google review
This beach is a long-time family favorite. We usually dine at Sophroniou Fish restaurant, then enjoy the beach for a while below the restaurant. The beach here is small, with dark sand, and not overcrowded. A very nice place to bring children to visit the beach so you can watch out for their safety, and not lose them in a crowd. The restaurant provides a place to change, and outdoor shower/foot washing station for when you're done.
Anna I — Google review
It's quiet compared to other places. But was under whelmed. View is of the oil refinery and naval yard. Water is nice as it's calm and quite shallow and you can explore the caves (by caves I mean alcoves in the cliffs). No public showers or taps to use and sunbeds have seen better days. Ok if you're in the area but not worth more than a 10 minute drive out of your way to get there.

Visitors can explore five reconstructed dwellings, gaining an understanding of how people lived during that time. The site is well-maintained and informative, with boards providing details about construction methods and daily life in the village.
Interesting antiquity UNESCO site. Although the park is accessible, there are many uphill (concrete) paths. Many of the interesting parts of the park entail steep paths so for those in good shape who enjoy hiking.

Sabanci Central Mosque, also known as Sabanci Merkez Camii, is a major landmark in Adana, Turkey. This grand mosque was opened in 1998 and is renowned for its stunning Ottoman-style interior and the world's largest mosque panels. It was built by the late industrial magnate Sakip Sabanci and is covered entirely in marble and gold leaf.
A super huge mosque. Very serene. We were the only there at 800am for dhuha prayers. Our car was the only one underneath the mosque basement. Extremely safe place to park with security guard.

A stunning mosque in the heart of Adana, it took 10 years from 1988-1998 to finish the construction of this serene magnificent complex. There’s a lot of greenery inside its premise which provides solace during the hot summers of this region.

If you are coming to the Mosque after seeing Taş köprü there is shortcut, an underground passage to the mosque but the passage stinks with urine and filth. You can make a bigger loop and pass through a traffic lights which are a bit far. But if you go through the underground passage the smell is terrible. Looks like an abandoned place. If you can bear the smell you can pass through it fast and reach the beautiful mosque that is worth visiting. I think municipal authorities should pay attention to this.

It is one of the most important symbols of Adana, it has a fascinating structure and unique architecture, the Seyhan River flows past me, it is surrounded by the central park, which is a huge natural beauty, and it is one of the distinguished mosques that everyone should come and see.

Bridge
Stone Bridge, also known as Taskopru or Ponte Sarus, is a historic Roman bridge in Adana that spans the Seyhan River. Dating back to around 200 A.D., this architectural marvel has been in use for centuries and was open to traffic until 2007. The bridge offers picturesque views of the river and surrounding landscape, making it a must-see attraction for visitors to Adana.
Visiting Taş Köprü in Adana was an incredible experience. The bridge, which dates back to Roman times, is a stunning example of ancient engineering and architecture. It’s truly unbelievable that after nearly 2,000 years, it is still in use today, serving both pedestrians and vehicles. The structure’s elegant stone arches over the Seyhan River create a picturesque scene, especially at sunset. Walking across the bridge, I felt a deep connection to history, imagining all the generations who have crossed it before me. The surrounding area is also charming, with scenic views and a vibrant atmosphere. A must-visit landmark in Adana!
Altanay M — Google review
A lovely historic bridge in the heart of the city, Adana. There are many historical places and museums around this bridge, so it is a lovely point to start visiting in the city 🥰
Nur — Google review
Adana Taş Köprü (Stone Bridge) was built during the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century A.D. It spans the Seyhan River (known in antiquity as Sarus) and is considered one of the oldest stone bridges in the world still in use today. Originally constructed with 26 arches, 14 of them are still visible and standing today. The bridge has been used by many civilizations over time, including the Byzantines, Seljuks, and Ottomans, and it has undergone several restorations. Known for its architectural elegance and durability, the Stone Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks of Adana.
Bilgi S — Google review
Nice view, especially when walking on it. The bridge has been built for more than 1800 years.
Haval S — Google review
A beautiful, well-preserved bridge. You can stroll to the other end and back, just as people have done for many hundreds of years. A view of the huge mosque to the north makes for a nice view. There's not too much to do at the bridge, so I'd recommend next heading towards that mosque through the riverside park on the west bank there, as the nice part of town is in that direction. Though beware of aggressive beggars and peddlers at the mosque.
Kyle W — Google review
Nice view. I saw it when the river was dry. Still nice. Some traditional music players might be there. Adana Landmark!
Hasan I — Google review
The stone bridge is located in the center of Adana city. It is very crowded on holidays. Sometimes local music is played. The view of the mosque and Sihon river is very beautiful. You can take good photos. There is no entrance here, it is open to the public
Kourosh A — Google review
The bridge still stands after all these years, it’s simple but beautifully constructed, unlike those ugly bridges today. On the opposite site of the bridge, take sometime to walk the old town and the Ataturk museum.

Very good - this is a really safe beach for kids, with nice sand and fairly shallow water. The toilet is free (hurray) but the shower cost is about 50c. It can get quite crowded but the there is little hassle from people trying to sell you something. It can get really hot - so take or hire shade.

Larnaca Salt Lake is a stunning natural feature that captivates visitors with its unique ecosystem, home to an array of water birds, including the elegant flamingos. This picturesque site is not only a haven for birdwatchers but also holds cultural significance, featuring the revered Hala Sultan Tekke shrine nearby. Travelers can enhance their experience in Larnaca by exploring various attractions such as the Archaeological Museum and Larnaka Medieval Fort while enjoying beach activities along the beautiful coastline.
At the beginning of November there weren’t flamingos and water, although the view during sunset is magnificent. I recommend visit if you are nearby.
Галин Г — Google review
Went in April, no Flamingo. Learned from the local that they only come to salt lake between Nov and Mar. If you go in other months, the lake view is still enjoyable, just no need to feel disappointed or not seeing any bird.
Ang S — Google review
Beautiful lake, flamingos can be seen only in the cold season. Visited in November and the water looked like a mirror, with lots of flamingos. Definitely worth visiting. Do not walk off the path, it'll startle the birds. There are 2 observation decks at the lake. You can get there with public transport.

It's very nice to visit although flamingos weren't there🥹
Драганић С — Google review
Larnaca Salt Lake fills with water during the winter and dries up in the summer to reveal a salt crust. This natural cycle attracts large flocks of migratory birds. Thousands of flamingos arrive from November to feed on the shrimp that thrive in the salt water.
Vivienne T — Google review
Pink flamingos 🦩 visit the lake in winter. When I visited in mid November there were 2 big groups. Should bring a good camera to get a good picture. However you can walk around and enjoy the views. Various parking around the lake.

I visited it in November, and there were no birds, no water. Just a mud and salt. Large area covered by mud and salt. The guide said in winter there will be a lot of flamingo and water. It is located near Hala Sultan mosque.

Nice place for a walk alongside the salt lake, where you can watch the flamingos and other water birds. Great view of the Hala Sultan Tekkesi - this place has a ridiculous number of cute cats, it must be their sanctuary. There is several benches throughout the path, ideal to contemplate those magnificent birds.

The Hatay Archeology Museum is a must-visit attraction, showcasing a remarkable collection of local artifacts from ancient times. The museum boasts an extensive display of Roman and Byzantine mosaics, depicting nature and human life across different periods. Its colossal size befits the historical significance of Hatay, making it a unique destination for history enthusiasts. Visitors are captivated by the conceptualized rooms and sections, setting it apart from other Turkish museums.
Hatay has been a very important location in all its history which spans thousands of years. This museum with its colossal size is just a deserving place to house this history. With its amazing mosaic and roman collections, this museum is worth spending hours. The conceptialized rooms and sections are unique in Turkish museums.

Very nice museum. It has the biggest Mosaic collection in the world. Plan to spend at least 2.5 to 3 hours. It has a nice cafe to relax inside the museum as you exit. Parking was an issue for us. Besides the amazing mosaics spend some time at th sarcofagus section.
Kostantinos S — Google review
I couldn't imagine the amount of historical and archiological findings in this area. The museum was a trip to the history of the rigion. Amazing collection pf mosaic and marble sculptures. It is a must to see for Hatay visitors. Update: more sections are opened, and more mosaic is in display.
W G — Google review
One of the great museums you can ever visit, huge and divers collection. Can't be missed if you in Antakya visting it is a must. However, it needs minimum two hours so make sure you have enough time when you go there.

One of the very most important museum in Turkey. It represent the life of the caveman and the life of the mythological histories.. There are lots of articles and objects belong to that lifetime and history. Make sure you hear all the history of the items. Dont miss it.. Also dont miss the "live your life" Mosaic..
Kerem T — Google review
The museum was moved last year to here. Previous place of this museum was in city centre but not big enough but new place is more bigger but far from city centre. I love the chronological path in the museum first path starts with cage life of humans and ends with modern day. Mosaics are well preserved and mosaics were like photographs. The only disadvantage of this path I couldn't find path milestones as described it was complex for me to understand how designated path goes. I started area 1 and I found myself at area 13 after 30 minutes but I think that was my fault that's why I give 5 star. When you see 480p resolution mosaics you understand why I gave star.
Mehmet A — Google review
An impressive museum with a variety of exhibits about the area's very old history. I have been to many museums in Europe and this one could easily be in one of its capitals. The finds from the Hittite period are particularly impressive, as is the quality and massiveness of the mosaics from the Roman period. Worth it!

The Church of St Pierre is a significant historical site located in Antakya, Turkey. Carved into the side of Mt. Staurin and dating back to 1100 CE, it is one of the world's first cave churches and holds great importance in Christianity. It is believed that St. Pierre held the first religious meeting here to spread Christianity, making it a center of Catholicism and a pilgrimage site for Christians. The church also houses a museum and offers stunning views of the city.
Very old and historical church. Located on the hill so you have to walk to the top. The access if very easy. Actually, the inside is just a cave. I think the attractiveness is the rich-history behind this building.
Muhammad L — Google review
Claimed to be first cave church. Interesting to visit but not worth the fee of 8 eur.
Aleksey P — Google review
If you were expecting something incredible - you will be disappointed. If you were expecting something epic - this is not about this place. This is one of the places where Christianity was born, just a cave in the rock where Peter preached, just a place, beautiful in its own way, but these are definitely not the great churches of the Middle Ages. This is a greater place, one of which Christianity began.
Сергей П — Google review
This place, although is small, should be visited for the historical value that it has. As the first church in the world, and another historical site in a city that dates back to the first civilised city-states of the world. It is better to have the museum card as it gives access to all museums and historical sites of Turkey for 1 year.
W G — Google review
The church is a small hall in the mountain. You need to know a bit of history and significance of the place to enjoy the atmosphere, have a look at the city view and tolerate the groups of religious tourists ( not to mention a rather expensive entry fee) Take your time to go around the church (opposite direction of the main entrance). You shall find an amazing number of tunnels dug in the mountains and the figure carved into the mountain. Unfortunately, the path is not marked and cleaned, but it is definitely part of the amazing history where people had to prepare escape ways to flee religious persecution.
R S — Google review
Amazing place. Worth visiting in Hatay. Tourist fee 8 euro.

It might be a very nice place to see but the scene yaş been blocked and turnet to a mess by the cafe's and restaurants which are very worse, untidy and the roads are very bad and dusty. I thing the whole area should be taken under the control by the Government, Ministry of Tourism and the Municipality, otherwise and at the present state, it is shame of municipality.

Amazing place, the food and Nargila is not that good there, you can have a table in the cold water, near the water falls and enjoy the nature, there is also a small market were you can buy some good gifts , the place there is full of cars especially in the weekends you give your car to someone to park it for you and then continue walking to the cafes. Most of the cafes there serve wine and raki. The prices is fair.
Wajeeh D — Google review
It was surely an amazing piece of nature but the waterfall ways were filled with mass of concrete and dozens of restaurants and vendors are now sorounding the water. Some restaurants placed their tables right into the water so you can cool yourself both drinking and having your feet in icy water. The overall concept is kinda vulgar, the trash around isnt being collected properly so you dont want to walk away from the main routes. The decoration of some places is quite absurd... combining everything... Anyway it was a nice walk and we cooled ourselves after superhot Antakya.

The site also features the Temple of Jupiter and the Temple of Venus, showcasing stunning architectural marvels. It is amazing the way this place is well preserved with almost everything intact in comparison to the same structure in Athens. Underground it has a museum where you can see the all the artefacts as well. Entrance fee is way cheaper compared to the one in Greece also. Place is not busy with tourist for some reason, there was only one group with french people and few travelers. Must visit place for anyone traveling to Lebanon, recommend it.

The Temple of Bacchus is truly incredible. Built around the 2nd century AD and dedicated to Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, it’s one of the best-preserved and largest Roman temples in the world..actually bigger than the Parthenon in Athens! The scale is incredible, with towering columns (almost 20 meters high) and beautifully detailed carvings. The whole site is quiet and not crowded, so you can really take your time exploring and taking photos. Walking through it feels like stepping back in time. Absolutely worth the trip if you’re visiting Baalbek or Lebanon.

This mountain offers a great overview of Syria. The entrance is free, it has a large parking area, the rout from the parking to the viewpoint is decorated with artistic metal shaped creatures, and there are always some nice Druze people selling their olive oil, fruits ad souvenirs. There s also a nice coffee shop with outdoor seating area, and lots of fortification from the Six Day War to explore. Several years ago, it was not that safe to bring groups here, as the fighting in Syria often leaked into Israel. However, in recent years, this area is very safe and visiting here is a must when going all the way up to the Golan.

Ajloun Castle, perched on Mt Auf at 1250m, was constructed between 1184 and 1188 by Saladin's general, Izz ad Din Usama bin Munqidh. It served as a crucial defensive post against the Crusaders and offers stunning views of the Jordan Valley and surrounding wadis. The castle showcases ancient architecture with intricate window designs and a sophisticated cooling system. Spectacular castle on hilltop Myself and a friend visited on a weekend in October. We entered using the Jordan Pass. A striking 12th-century fortress built by the forces of Saladin to defend against Crusader attacks and protect vital trade routes. Pros: -panoramic views across the Jordan Valley and the hills of northern Jordan. -well-preserved towers, chambers, and passageways, learning about its strategic role in medieval warfare. -small museum displays artifacts from the region, adding depth to the castle’s fascinating military and historical significance. Cons: -Toilets are free but guy hassled me for money.

A very wonderful place, it reminds you how strong people were who built this castle and who excelled in the art of construction, mastery and war skills. All the services in the place are wonderful. Thanks to the Ministry of Tourism. Arch of Hadrian

Mentioned on
19 lists
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Arch of Hadrian is a remarkable triple-bayed Roman arch constructed in 129 CE to honor Emperor Hadrian. It stands at 11 meters high and features intricate detailing on its three major archways. This colossal arch, the largest known in the Roman Empire, was built during Hadrian's visit and serves as the entry point to the ancient city of Jerash.
Hadrian’s Arch stands tall and proud, built in honor of the Roman Emperor Hadrian — a grand gateway that once welcomed him to the ancient city of Jerash. It is one of several arches that once graced this historical jewel, but this one, in particular, rises with unmatched majesty. Its towering columns, carved from limestone, are a silent testament to the genius of Roman architecture — reflecting the mastery, elegance, and distinct identity the Romans infused into every stone they laid. Though time has weathered its form, and an earthquake in 749 AD brought parts of it down, the arch remains a symbol of resilience and ancient glory. To walk among these ruins is to walk through time itself — to trace the footsteps of empires, to feel the whispers of the past carried in the breeze, and to be humbled by the sheer beauty of classical architecture. As a lover of history, it was an experience that stirred my soul. No matter how much I describe it, my words fall short of capturing its true essence. If you wish to delve deeper, I invite you to explore more on Wikipedia or through historical websites. For now, I’ll leave you with some glimpses I captured — fragments of a story etched in stone.

The Arch of Hadrian in Jerash, Jordan, is a monumental Roman triumphal arch. It was built to honor Emperor Hadrian's visit in 129-130 AD. The triple-arched gateway was intended as a grand entrance to a new city district. This planned expansion was never completed. It is one of the largest and most impressive Roman arches outside of Italy. Located just south of the main ancient city, it is a key highlight for visitors today.
Ahmet I — Google review
It was a very special day because I found not only historical works of art but also modern Jordanian art. Some of them now liven up my apartment and it is a good feeling to have art instead of kitsch around them.

I recently visited Jerash in Jordan, and it was an unforgettable experience. One of the highlights was seeing the Arch of Hadrian, a magnificent structure built to honor the Roman Emperor’s visit in the 2nd century AD. The arch stands tall as a symbol of Jerash’s rich history and Roman influence. Walking through the ancient ruins surrounding the arch made me feel like I was stepping into a different era. Jerash is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, culture, and timeless architectural beauty.
Abdullah K — Google review
“A Timeless Gateway to Roman Grandeur” As a history lover, standing before the Arch of Hadrian in Jerash felt like stepping straight into the Roman Empire. Built in 129 AD to honor Emperor Hadrian’s visit, this grand triple-arched gateway once marked the entrance to the flourishing city of Gerasa. Even after nearly 2,000 years, its massive limestone structure still radiates pride and power. The arch, standing slightly outside the city walls, symbolized Jerash’s expansion and ambition to become a “mini-Rome” in the East. Walk through it and turn back — the ruins framed through the arch are breathtaking, a perfect reminder that civilizations fade, but their stories endure in stone.

The arch is one of the most impressive sights in Jerash. Just get through all the sellers stores and you will be able to see this sight and no pass is required to see this sight. Jordanpass or tickets are presented later on at the visitor centre.

Can see this using the Jordan pass. You walk through the entrance and get a little bit of hassle from people trying to sell you souvenirs etc but you can run the gauntlet and get past them easily enough. The arch is pretty big and spectacular to look at. You can see if from the road outside but to see it up close and walk under it is an experience.

An absolutely gorgeous step into history. It was hot but doable. The area is much larger than meets the eye and you can feel the Roman history in the area. There are so many pictures that should be taken here. This was one of my favorite stops in Jordan. The only con is the number of people trying to sell you things mostly towards the front.
