Outdoor Activities
Popular mountainside ski center offering year-round activities, such as summer toboggan rides.
Fantastic toboggan, such good fun! There's a large car park near the ticket office, then catch a cable car to the top, where there are beautiful views over the area. You take the toboggan down, controlling your speed as you go - it's quite a thrill! The views are beautiful and it was genuinely a lot of fun. Would highly recommend if you're in the area. We didn't have any queueing and the whole experience took about half an hour.

This is a very good place to do carts with the kids! We came first thing on the morning and there was no line. The kids did the trail 4 times (also my husband) and we did it once with our baby (1.5). After a few times it became cold and it's windy up the trail so we finished. Live the bags in the car so you won't have to carry them and there is no place for a baby trolly only if you don't want to go down with the cart. Bring worm clothes if it's not summer. Highly recommended . Time of stay - 1.5 hour
Adi D — Google review
We went to another, much shorter one beforehand. This one was great! It was long enough to really enjoy how fast you are going. The ride is diverse, you always have something to look at. The line to the ride was quiet long around noon (12pm). We ate something while we waited, to see if the line would slim down. It did! Look at the weather beforehand. It would suck if it rained while you had tickets 🌧️

A great alpine coaster (one of the longest ones in the area, I believe). You get to the top with a cable cart. Amazing view from the top. While on top, drink some hot cacao or beer while admiring the scenery. The coaster can be quite fast (you control the speed using a brake handle). Suitable for most ages, however young kids sit with their parents. We really enjoyed it and immediately went again! The queue can get quite long so make sure to get there shortly after they open to avoid it.
Asaf F — Google review
One of the best experiences of our trip. We’ve been on quite a few alpine slides, and this one is the best of them all. Everyone really enjoyed it, both kids and adults. A truly exceptional experience. Just note that if it rains even a little, the slide closes until the rain stops, so it’s best to plan accordingly. The place is worth a special trip just for this.
Aviel F — Google review
Nice ride, long one and people so nice to give you confidence that everything is gonna go well and pretty cool view!
Sol G — Google review
We came to this place which looks wonderful and fun. When we got up in the cable car we saw people collide with each other on purpose and nobody told them anything. After a few minutes a terrible accident has happened because people collide with each other and nobody cares or enforces it. The man who collided got a neck shot and fell from the summerbahn. A police and ambulance came and the place was temporary closed. We then came back down in the cable car and they only refunded us 5.5€ instead of 19€ per ticket price in a claim that we used the cable car, but of course we wouldn’t use it without the summerbahn. They just stole our money because of an accident that happened in their fault, because they don’t care about anything happened and don’t enforce it. So think twice before you get your children on it because if someone will collide them in high speed it’s LIFE RISKING. Please enforce it!!! Fine people who collide on purpose!! It doesn’t fit Austria at all…

Take cable car to go up the mountain and then with the toboggan all the way down , it was awesome !! Don't go peak time ,we waited 1 hour to go up and 1.5 hours to ride the toboggan. But it's worth it ,the long ride can see the view and is really safe !! Unfortunately No photos allowed when you ride. Notes: the toboggan is closed when rains and buy the ticket for 2 or 3 rides(discount ), u won't be disappointed.

Zwölferhorn

Mountain peak
Transportation
Tramways
Zwölferhorn is a popular destination for winter sports and hiking enthusiasts, boasting a 4,993-foot summit that can be reached by cable car or ski lifts. Visitors are treated to stunning views of Lake Wolfgang and the surrounding Salzkammergut region. The mountain also offers challenging trails for hikers, but the reward at the top makes it worth the effort with opportunities to enjoy beer while taking in one of life's best views.
Amazing view of Wolfgangsee from the peak.it takes around 10 mins to reach to the peak with cable car. It's a beautiful hiking trail.can easily spend 4-5 hours here. The night before we went it had snowed quite a bit, n it was amazing to walk around in fresh snow. There's a lil restaurant which offers good food.

It's a mountain peak of St.Gilgen and Wolfgangsee. Just takes 10 minutes to reach the peak. There is a restaurant at the mountain for refreshing. Walking trails are having some amazing views.

Amazing view The price of cable car is about 30 euros There were many people going up to the mountain although it was cold

Great, sometimes challenging trail, but views and beer on the top are worth it. Horses and cows everywhere. :) I reccommend it. About 3 hours to the top and 2 hours back to Sankt Gilgen - ordinary walking.

SchafbergBahn

Mentioned on

Tours
SchafbergBahn is a charming railway that offers a delightful journey to the summit of Schafberg Mountain. The bright red vintage trains provide an excellent photo opportunity as they chug up and down the mountain. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views from the top and explore various pathways while savoring refreshments at the cafe with outdoor seating. It's advisable to pre-purchase tickets online and select boarding and returning times in advance, as well as being prepared for a 30-minute ride each way.
A nice experience! Pricey (€56.50 for a round trip per person), but definitely worth it. It takes around 35 minutes to get to the peak. Beware of usually colder weather there. Also, the tickets are sold for a specific departure time (return trip can be re-booked at a terminal in the restaurant on the mountain). Along the road you’ll see picturesque countryside, beautiful hills and, if you’re lucky enough, some wildlife. Restaurants uphill are pricey, so, if you are tight on a budget, get some food with you.
Andrey P — Google review
Unique cogwheel railway to fantastic mountain-top views. Cafe and restaurant at the top and also a kiosk (cash only, very reasonable). Trains are booked so that everyone had a seat - afternoon trains were fully unbooked, so maybe go up later if you want to avoid the crowds.
Mexikoi — Google review
👍🏻 Great experience and I think it is the best option compared to other trains in Austria. 👍🏻 The train route up and down is beautiful, allowing you to see the entire Wolfgang Lake. 👍🏻 Upon reaching the summit we were able to see very impressive views of Wolfgang Lake and other nearby lakes. ⚠️ It takes 35 minutes for the train to climb to the top and also descend the same time 35 minutes. ⚠️ In my opinion the train is a great experience for children more than adults. ⚠️ There is an overpriced adult ticket for €56 while the child ticket is €17 We request those in charge of the train management to reduce the price of the adult ticket to not exceed €35 The price is a bit reasonable. ⚠️ It is preferable to book tickets at the counter because there are discount offers because I booked online and found out that I have a discount card from the hotel, but I did not benefit from it because I actually paid. ⚠️ Restaurants and toilets are available on top. ⚠️ Always try to sit on the side overlooking Lake Wolfgang. ⚠️ Scan the ticket code on the parking lot when the final price appears and you will get a special discount, I know this by chance from the counter ticket and they don't tell anyone about it. ⚠️ Don't rush down from the top as many do, try to spend an hour to an hour and a half there to have fun and walk & For hiking lovers, I recommend staying from two to two and a half hours because there is a very beautiful and exciting trail on the edge of the mountain. ⚠️ Electronic Portals For going up and down programmed on the time set so it is not optional and you should pay attention to it. ⚠️ The location of the station is located in the Wolfgang Center and you can enjoy a walking tour that will have great views and many options of cafes and restaurants.
KHALIFA A — Google review
The trip was really great! 🌄 We bought train tickets and went up, stopping at the first station to hike to the top (about an hour’s walk). The trail is quite challenging and better suited for experienced hikers, but the views along the way are absolutely stunning. At the summit, there are breathtaking views and a nice restaurant, though a bit pricey. The place is suitable for families, but not if you plan to stop halfway and hike. We took a return ticket after about 3 hours – that’s a bit long if you’re not doing the hike, so keep that in mind. The attraction itself is quite expensive, but it’s definitely a special experience worth doing once.
Ortal K — Google review
Longest cog railway in Austria. And needed during the ride up the mountains. Very well maintained. Nice hall for the tickets. The ladies at the counter were patient n the condescending manner, possibly with gritted teeth. The website is very good with options. However you need to be very precise with when you want to travel and come back which we couldn’t do as we were driving and wanted to flexible. Anyway don’t let my comments detract from you not taking this railway through beautiful countryside. I did meet someone at the top whom had walked up….. this would have been great too but the knees

Trip is very nice prices are ok, if you do not have a dog or bike, but fact that in 2023 in tourist destination cards are not accepted is shameful. I would like to know if owners are greedy to pay small fee to payment providers or it’s just a black money and tax avoidance.
Matúš K — Google review
A nice, small village. You can take a three-hour cruise and take an old train to the top of the mountain with an amazing view of the lakes.
מוטי ש — Google review
We were charged a double the normal price. We paid 60 EUR instead of 30 EUR. After we showed the ticket seller the price on website he returned the difference. Be careful if you speak English.

I am sorry but it was a terrible ride today: overcrowded, no air and extremely warm inside, no way to move. Need to apply some improvements please, since it is not even yet summer.
Marti B — Google review
It seems to be the most animal-unfriendly transport company. We have visited almost half of the world's countries, but never met such a humiliation. First of all: they do not understand that the dog must be trained to the muzzle gradually. Mandating the use of a muzzle is disrespectful to both animals and their owners. Second: to pay 15 eur for a dog vs 11.10 eur for a child + adult is a mockery. Ordnung ist ordnung? Wake up, it's the 21st century

St. Wolfgang Kirche is a stunning Catholic church located in the heart of the picturesque town of St. Wolfgang. It serves as a central point with charming laneways leading out from it, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area and the nearby lake. The church's towering structure and beautiful interior make it one of the most visited spots in the region. Visitors staying nearby are encouraged to explore this historic site, which dates back to 976 when Bishop Wolfgang of Regensburg established the first church here.
A beautiful little town on an alpine lake. There is no lack of shops or cafes. There is plenty of parking space. Public toilets are charged. I highly recommend a visit to the local pilgrimage church with its famous altar by Michael Pacher.

Incredibly stunning and sacred place to spend a few hours. Wish we could have stayed for Mass.

The place is very nice. At this season it was not crowded and we enjoyed walking at the streets. The view from the path near the church is marvellous.

A beautiful church in a charming village with a spectacular view of Lake Wolfgang. This church has an interesting legend.

If you are staying near by definitely worth popping in and checking out. The church is right on the water with amazing views where you enter the church. There are a bunch of white cut out arches that overlook the water. If it’s sunny and warm be prepared for all the photoshoots happening in the archways.

Basilika St. Michael

Basilika St. Michael, located in Mondsee, Austria, is famous for being the setting of the wedding of Maria and Captain Von Trapp in the iconic musical, The Sound of Music. Visitors appreciate its proximity to Mondsee Lake and the picturesque surroundings featured in the film. The exterior is modest while the interior boasts ornate carvings and vibrant decorations. The colorful buildings nearby add to the warm ambiance of the area. A souvenir shop on-site offers mementos for visitors.
This church was filmed in The Sound of Music where the wedding ceremony took place. A beautiful church.
David E — Google review
Went here as part of a sound of music tour. It was a really nice building in a lovely little town. It didn't cost any money to visit. It has a little gift shop. We went on a Sunday and there was a small market in the courtyard area seeking mostly food items
Craig C — Google review
We went to Mondsee and visited the Basilika St Michael church. Stunning. Apparently this is where the wedding from the Sound of Music was filmed. Beautiful, serene. Abit taken back seeing the four skeletons in the altar, apparently they died for the church.
Vivienne W — Google review
Truly beautiful church with contrasting black details, no crowds (guessing there are bus loads of folks from time to time) situated on cute town square just up from the lake. Parking lot located behind
Kristan A — Google review
Beautiful on the outside but magnificent on the inside. Don't miss this church if you visit Mondsee. Take a look at the attached photos. Since there are excellent Konditorei nearby, such as the Konditorei - Café Frauenschuh, you might/should combine these two visits.
Dan M — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous. Sound of Music childhood fan. This was part of my tour to Salzburg.
Julie A — Google review
Awesome Basilica, so much history besides it being related place to sound of music
Anthony B — Google review
Basilika St. Michael is such a beautiful church. It's in the quaint little town of Mondsee. Absolutely worth the drive. We arrived rather late in the day. Didn't take pictures inside as it's an active place of worship. This is where the Sound of Music marriage scene was filmed. Majestic interior. However, it's not the actual place the wedding took place between Maria and Captain Von Trapp. When we arrived, a very sweet local old man was there and shared a lot of information about the church with us. It's wonderful to know that places of worship still have importance in so many people's lives.

Salzwelten Hallstatt is a fascinating salt-mine museum located in the UNESCO World Heritage region of Hallstatt Dachstein Salzkammergut in Austria. It boasts a 7,000-year history and is home to the oldest wooden staircase in Europe, dating back 2,800 years. Visitors can explore over 3000-year-old tunnels and learn about all aspects of salt mining through educational exhibits and a cinema showcasing discoveries made in the mine.
Definitely an unforgettable experience! The underground tunnels were fascinating , sliding down the wooden miner slides was so much fun ! The light show deep inside the mountain was magical as well , views from the top were absolutely breathtaking.
Millie P — Google review
What a great experience. The tour is very entertaining with a lot of facts, fun and adventure. You have to walk a fair amount of stairs. Visitors receive special clothes and can learn a lot about salt in general and about the process of the extraction as well. In the price of 43€ per person is included also the viewpoint, mine tour both in English and Deutsch, slides and a funicular ride in both directions. I totally recommend it! It is really worth it.
Margita H — Google review
Salzwelten Hallstatt & Shop @ Hallstatt 🧂⛏️🇦🇹 🗓️ Visited: Saturday, 9 AM I made an online reservation for the Salzwelten Hallstatt tour and arrived early for the 9 AM slot—an excellent choice, as the morning was quieter and more relaxed. The visit begins with a scenic funicular ride up the hillside, giving beautiful lake views before reaching the mine entrance. The guided tour takes you deep into the historic salt tunnels, past centuries-old wooden pipelines, mining tools, and fascinating multimedia displays. Highlights included sliding down the traditional wooden miners’ slides and seeing the sparkling underground salt lake—absolutely magical. The mix of history, geology, and interactive fun made it a truly memorable experience. After the tour, I browsed the Salzwelten Shop for local gifts—gourmet Hallstatt salt, salt-infused chocolates, cosmetics, and decorative souvenirs. Everything felt unique and tied to the village’s heritage. 💡 The whole tour is worth the price! An absolute must-try if you’re visiting Hallstatt. 🧭 Tip: Book online in advance and go in the morning for a calmer, more spacious experience during the tour.
Quing_刘妈妈 — Google review
It is truly a very unique experience. You get to see how salt was extracted thousand years ago, and how it is being extracted nowadays. Furthermore, the guides are very experienced giving very important information about all the places you get to see, while large wooden slides are available for some fun.

Salzwelten Hallstatt is a unique and fascinating attraction that takes you deep into the ancient salt mines. The tour is both fun and educational, offering a hands-on experience of the history and craft of salt mining. The site is well-preserved, and the guides are knowledgeable and engaging, making the visit truly eye-opening. Combined with the stunning beauty of Hallstatt itself, Salzwelten adds a rich cultural layer to your trip. It’s highly recommended for families and anyone interested in history and culture.
Pion C — Google review
Super fun experience for all who are visiting hallstatt! Tickets and reservation not available online, so u need to purchase them from the base funicular station. The staff will inform you when is the next tour starting, so you just gotta head up in advance via the funicular (which was pretty fast). Each tour is about 43 pax so make sure to queue or plan ahead! i thought that the group size was too big as even though the facilities inside could accomodate this group, there was a lot of unnecessary waiting around and people at the back could not hear what the guide was saying at each station, despite her already close to shouting. The cave was huge, but the time to explore or take photos at each station is very short. The staff will switch off the light within 5mins and people at the back usually dont get much chances to take pics by the time we reach the station. However, the caves were still pretty cool and we really enjoyed the 2 slides! We also got to take a train out of the salt mine via a really narrow tunnel and that was exhilarating. Overall the tour was about 1 and a half hours. The last tour is at 3.40pm, which means u can still catch the last funicular down after you complete the tour.
Cherie C — Google review
The tour was a great experience with lots of fun parts. The tour included fun slides and videos. We received special clothing to safely slide down the rides. The tour starts deep into the mine, where they explain the history of the mine and how they extract the salt. We had a great guide called Jakob, making the tour not only informative but also entertaining. However, the light show was an utter disaster- I could have made better. In addition the pricing what a little expensive.
Vince — Google review
It isn’t a cheap trip - but overall, I am glad we visited the Hallstatt Salt Mine. You have to dress in the protective clothing of the salt miners before you start the tour and backpacks must be left in lockers and reclaimed at the tour’s end. The tour itself took around an hour. You get to ride on two wooden miners’ slides during the trip which is good fun. At the second slide, your speed is recorded as you pass the camera positioned to catch all the fun. We managed to clock up only a miserable 11 kilometres per hour compared to our guide’s winning score of 28.6 kilometres per hour. You also get to ride on the miners’ train back at the end which makes a nice finale. Inside the cave, it is interesting to see the salt deposits up close. Various informative movies are played as you walk through the mine and you get a good feel for the 7,000 year history of salt mining in this part of Austria. Salt is a good preservative, so the Salt Mine is an archeological treasure trove. Towards the end of the tour, you get to see the oldest European evidence of a wooden staircase. Check opening times before you visit as the site is very popular, the only access is via the funicular and numbers are strictly limited. You need to allow 3 hours or so for the whole trip. Panoramic Viewpoint - Hallstatt Skywalk

Observation deck
Sights & Landmarks
The Panoramic Viewpoint - Hallstatt Skywalk is an awe-inspiring observation deck that extends over the charming village of Hallstatt in Austria. Situated at a height of 1,148 feet amidst the stunning Dachstein Alps, it offers breathtaking vistas of the UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors can admire the deep blue waters of Hallstatter See, lush green valleys, and majestic mountain ranges from this elevated vantage point.
Visiting the Hallstatt Panoramic Viewpoint was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. As the funicular carried us gently up the mountainside, the anticipation grew, but nothing could prepare me for the view that awaited. At the top, I was greeted by an awe-inspiring sight: the fairytale village of Hallstatt nestled between the serene lake and majestic alpine peaks. The glass viewing platform makes you feel like you’re floating above the world, offering a 360° panorama that is absolutely surreal. On a clear day, you can see every detail – the shimmering waters, the charming rooftops, and the endless expanse of the Dachstein mountains. It’s not just a viewpoint; it’s a place where time seems to stand still. Perfect for photos, reflection, or simply soaking in the beauty of nature. I’d recommend going early in the morning or late afternoon for the most magical light (and fewer crowds). If you’re in Hallstatt, this is an absolute must-see. It’s the kind of place that leaves you speechless and stays in your heart forever. 🌄✨

Spectacular view from above. Not too expensive and worth the money going up with a „Zahnradbahn“. At the time of our visit we had to climb a LOT of stairs going up, down, up , down and up - exhausting stairs climbing, not for people with problems walking but this will change once the elevator will be ready - guessing in a few month. Check before.
Dieter H — Google review
The Panoramic Viewpoint in Hallstatt offers stunning views of the village and lake — truly worth visiting. It can get quite crowded, and we had to wait our turn for photos, but the breathtaking scenery makes it all worthwhile.
Arvind — Google review
I went to the Hallstatt Skywalk at the end of August, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip. Getting up there is very easy – you just take the funicular, and the ride itself takes no more than five minutes. Before that, I waited in line for around 15 minutes, which didn’t feel too bad considering how many people want to go up. Once I reached the top, there was another short wait, about 15 minutes, before stepping out onto the viewing platform to take photos. Honestly, the views are incredible and make the wait completely worth it. You can see the lake, the mountains, and the little town far below – it feels like standing above a postcard. The place is quite popular, so it can get a bit crowded, but I think that’s expected in such a famous spot. If you come with a bit of patience, you’ll definitely enjoy it. I would recommend it not only for the Skywalk itself, but also because Hallstatt as a town is really special. Walking around the streets, seeing the houses by the water, and just taking in the atmosphere was just as memorable as the viewpoint. In the end, I’m glad I went – it’s the kind of experience that feels like a must when you’re in this area.
Yana — Google review
Gorgeous view of the lake and surroundings. The lift area to the cablecar is under construction so we had to go around. But if you're up for an adventure I recommend hiking up there.
Beatrice B — Google review
If you wanna go walking to the Panoramic viewpoint do the way on the street and read before if the downway is open because we got until a point and it was closed. The view is amazing anyway !
Laura T — Google review
We took the funicular to the entrance to the viewpoint. Then you need to walk up a hill to a LONG set of stairs down, then thru 2 cages of stairs, then back UP another LONG & WINDING set of stairs to reach the Top of the Sky Bridge & Restaurant. Is it worth it? Yes! The views are fabulous and the restaurant was also good. Just to note: they are in the middle of construction 🚧 putting in an Elevator! What a novel idea. That is situated at the top of the funicular so sometime the future those that don't want or can't make the trip with all the upstairs & downs and stairs will be able to experience the views as well. In the meantime... wear sneakers! My calls are still killing me!
Sandi S — Google review
The wait for the funicular is worth it, even in bad weather, as the view across the lake can be unique. The café at the top isn't a bad place to wait for the rain to stop.

Marktplatz Hallstatt, also known as the market place in Hallstatt, is a picturesque square at the heart of the historic town. Surrounded by majestic mountains and overlooking a beautiful lake, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is considered Austria's best-kept secret. The square features the Holy Trinity Statue, a symbol of gratitude and protection from natural disasters. Visitors can explore small cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops offering traditional Austrian goods.
There’s no doubt about the beauty of this place but I think it’s too much hyped. It is beautiful and it does have a vibe to it. Worst part of this place is no one excepts card here everyone will demand cash(except parking and groceries stores), and when you question they will give a lame reason of Internet not working there🤷🏽‍♂️. So beware, when withdrawing cash you will be charged 6.5euro per transaction.
Rock K — Google review
What a gorgeous little town. Make sure you have cash!!!!!! The ferry is CASH ONLY. And most restaurants are cash only. Very few spots will take a card. There are ATMs, but obviously it will cost you a little bit more than being prepared. I recommend this town more as a day trip, not a place I’d want to stay overnight.
Julie M — Google review
An absolute must visit, picturesque and simply stunning town. The vibe and atmosphere is to die for. Crowded during early to mid-afternoon, but definitely worth a visit despite few hours train ride (you get to enjoy beautiful Austrian countryside though).
Agshin S — Google review
This beautiful place was in our "must visit" list. Full of beautiness. Breathtakingly beautiful nature, many restaurants/cafes. Just by sitting and watching you already feel calmness, you loose your stress. Everything was perfect, highly recommend all to visit this heavenly place. Just costs are bit high, and I think it's normal for such a touristic place.
Fidan — Google review
A breathtaking place; it encapsulates all the best bits of Austria in one place. Parking is a nightmare - best to park in Obertraun on the opposite side of the lake and take the little ferry boat. It is electric and suits the stillness of the lake perfectly
Paul M — Google review
Marktplatz @ Hallstatt 🏘️⛰️🇦🇹 📍 Historic Town Center The Marktplatz is the charming heart of Hallstatt—a postcard-perfect square surrounded by pastel-colored houses, flower-decked balconies, cafés, and small shops selling local crafts and souvenirs. In the middle stands an elegant fountain, framed by seasonal blooms and overlooked by the dramatic alpine backdrop. 📸✨ We decided to stay in Hallstatt for 2 nights, which allowed us to enjoy the square at different times of day—quiet in the early mornings, lively by midday, and softly lit in the evenings. Staying overnight meant we could explore without the heavy day-trip crowds and enjoy peaceful strolls through the cobblestone lanes. From Marktplatz, it’s easy to wander down to the lakefront or up to hillside viewpoints, with plenty of charming side streets to discover along the way. 🧭 Tip: If you’re staying overnight, take an evening walk around the square after dinner—it’s beautifully lit, and you’ll have the place almost to yourself.

It's a must visit when you travel to Austria! Hallstatt is a heaven on earth, a small town not too near to Austria but worths to visit… Hallstatt is known for its production of salt, dating back to prehistoric times, and gave its name to the Hallstatt culture, the archaeological culture linked to Proto-Celtic and early Celtic people of the Early Iron Age in Europe, c. 800–450 BC.

Go where the locals go!! This lake is often visited by locals! So its not touristy... you can go swimming in the clear waters or take a walk around the lake which is almost flat or one may even follow a trail which is about 9km from this lake which leads to an even smaller lake than the one in the picture. The lake has striking shades of blue. Don’t forget to carry your swimsuit and picnic basket!!
Sujata G — Google review
August 24: Truly amazing place! Take your lunch snacks and drinks, find a place in shadow/sun and just relax. Parking spot can be hard to get especially after 10am, so people are parking down the road and walk. It’s free. There are free bio toilets or paid toilets at the bistro. Water in August was great to swim and to enjoy. The road to the lake is Ok in summer, we drove 30-50kmh, not that narrow. Almost no internet connection there! Highly recommended!
Julia A — Google review
A hidden Gem! Why? Because it's not as famous as the other lakes in the Salzkemmergut like Gosausee, Fuschlsee or Königsee (this one close in Germany), but it's absolutely stunning! Be careful, there's a paid parking lot (and not free contrary to what has been written in other reviews), but you don't pay at the entrance, but at the exit (the car number is identified by cameras). When we got there by noon, it was full so be ready to wait for a space, but it was worth it. You can swim if the weather permits or walk around the lake. The walk is relatively short, about an hour, but if you want to walk to the second lake as well, it'll take around 2 hours of easy walk. Enjoy it!

Gmunden is very beautiful and the lake is also wonderful, which is the deepest lake in Austria. You can walk around the lake, listen to the ringing of bells in the main square, shop at the farmers' market, and have coffee with the locals in the coastal restaurants. Parking is paid on weekdays, but with some walking (on a steep road), you can park for free on the "hill".

Schloss Ort, also known as Ort Castle, is a captivating castle located on a small island in Traunsee Lake, just a few kilometers from the charming town of Gmunden. The castle was originally founded in 1080 and has undergone numerous extensions and renovations over the centuries. Visitors can explore the ruins of this ancient structure or enjoy a meal at the nearby Orther Stuben restaurant. Guided tours can be arranged through the tourist office with advance notice.
Google Review: Schloss Ort is definitely a place worth visiting with its stunning views and breathtaking lake scenery! Located on Lake Traunsee in Gmunden, this historic castle offers a charming atmosphere with both natural beauty and historical significance. A fantastic experience for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike!

Schloss Ort is a hidden gem in Austria, nestled on a small island in the Traunsee Lake. The castle is charming, with its picturesque setting and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. A must-visit if you’re in the area, especially on a sunny day!

A magnificent site in the Salzkammergut. Definitely worth the trip from Salzburg, not only for the castle itself, but also for the relaxing view of the lake. You can spend a few hours here, walking the trails and stopping at several viewpoints along the lakeshore. Convenient and affordable parking is available nearby. Highly recommended! Take a look at the photos.

Visiting Schloss Ort was such a lovely experience. The castle sits beautifully on the lake, and walking around the grounds and across the bridge was very peaceful. The views are picturesque, and it’s a great place to relax and take some memorable photos.

Nothing new I can say about this castle that hasn't already been said. Its a very normal looking Austrian castle but what makes it unique is its location. Its sitting on the traunsee lake in a small island that just fits the castle with a small path you can take around it and get a good look at both the lake and gmunden.

I love this place! It is absolutely worth the trip and the 6 Euros per person! The gorge is an awesome experience. Don't miss out on the castle ruins at the end of the trail! And the old sulfur spring! There's a super cute hidden spot along the sulfur spring trail where you can grab a cold beer or drink from the cooler based on an honorary system near the castle ruins. And an animal feeding station is there too. It's great for the kiddos! There is so much to do, see, and explore here! We'll worth it!
Anna H — Google review
This is a very cute little gorge. I'm not in a very good shape but I was able to do the hike. The stairs made it much easier for me. It took us like an hour going up and down. We were there on a Monday afternoon in June so there were only four people besides us. So it was perfect. We didn't hike up to the lake. ... Didn't have enough energy for it sadly. 6 euros per person for the gorge is totally acceptable. The burgruin and the hike to the lake is free. The car park also

(Translated by Google) Very easy to reach on foot or by chairlift, very friendly team. There is a glass observation tower with an exhibition and film, well worth seeing, on the subject of the Limestone Alps. The employee there was very friendly and patient, two school classes were also there. There are a number of hiking trails from here that I wouldn't rate as strenuous. What's also interesting is that there is the possibility of archery, with equipment and is well explained. It is also possible to drive up by car, which in my opinion takes away from the appeal and the cars are also visually disturbing. Also highly recommended for families and seniors (Original) Sehr gut zu Fuß oder per Sessellift, sehr freundliches Team, erreichbar. Es gibt einen gläsernen Aussichtsturm mit Ausstellung und Film, sehr sehenswert, zum Thema Kalkalpen. Die Mitarbeiterin dort war sehr freundlich und geduldig, zwei Schulklassen waren auch da. Best place for Kids about 4 up to 7 or 8 years old. We had a lot of fun and the 4 years old boy slept very well after the aquaworld-workout. We were there in September. Building, restaurant and so on are little bit old but everything okay.
*rich* — Google review
For the kids a funny place but as adult it's like a reminder on the overcrowded beaches with sun louncher on every square meter. The price is quiet expensive for that what you get. Interesting to visit onetime but not for a second time. There are much more cheaper and nicer places for both kids & adults around.
Robert K — Google review
No surprise it was crowded on a rainy weekend, still had a good time. I'd prefer if the restaurant offered some more light dishes but I guess it's a kid-friendly menu after all
Simon H — Google review
Good place for Family short holiday escape. It was a good experience for the whole family in Aquapulco. Children friendly, the staffs are friendly and always smiles. Inside there is restaurant with a reasonable price (ex. Small salad-you can pick yourself ~6 euro, Kid‘s pack ~8 euro as per 2023). Each adult gets blue bracelet with NFC and red for children. This bracelet can be used to open/close your locker, to access the park, to access black jack „water-slide“ (i think it‘s for safety reason), to pay your meals or beverage in side the park. The bracelet will be scanned at the exit, in case you have buy anything inside. Only one points need to improve thou, On the stairs to the 4 big water slides, It is good when small signs, maybe with small arrows with color (ex. red, yellow, orange and black) to mind the visitors where to queue for which water slide. Iya But over all, it was great! Thanks Aquapulco team!
Ari M — Google review
The place is fun and n8ce, we were just in the kids area, yes i was missing the adults area that exists but it was all overpriced as it is(as opposed to ammade for instance). 6 water sludes, 1 is nothing much but the rest are pretty neat. We were 2 hours only but i guess we could spend 3 hours there, i think a bit more the kids gets bored.
Eyal G — Google review
So many friends recommended, but I was disappointed. Too many visitors in too small space, no free place to left you towels, in some part of pool building its quite cold temperature, whats a misstake for such facility. Nobody to ask how to open cupboard with those chips, lot of them malfunctioning. Any single person of staff dont speak or dont wanna speak english, not a one, big problem with parking and opposed to my previous experience with Austria food facilities, a serious troubles with fryer oil in canteen. I wonder, why it is so popular. And inadequate price. No more.
Jan Č — Google review
Children enjoyed it a lot. The little one (3 years) was a bit bothered my the loud sound of water hitting the objects and stayed in the baby bay only because it was much more quite. It would be good if some instructions are in English as well for those who do not understand German.

It is was a very pleasant discovery for us, that just 30 min from Linz such a big and diverse zoo is, also with an interesting museum and very beautiful surrounding. For children are a lot of places to discover and play. Totally recommend it
Irina P — Google review
Cool zoo, saw some animals break out. They said Hi to all the visitors and tried to get back into their "homes". A zookeeper had to open the door for them, but still they just walked back in like it is their daily routine 😂
Dr. R — Google review
The museum is impressive. Very informative and nice designed. You can travel trough the human evolution until to the future. The zoo itself is quite good but could be have more space for the animals as well as could be more cleaner. There are also some different playgrounds for the kids and in the middle there is a trampolin with a small restaurant.
Robert K — Google review
Costly but really much to see. The Zoo itself is some kind of ancient. The restaurant in the middle of the Zoo is not recommendable. High prices and the meals are lower than average. And the restaurant itself should get a renovation. The toilets are lower average. And why I rated this Zoo with only 3 stars is because of the wooden playground. It's very important for every Zoo to have a very safe playground. And this Zoo doesn't take care of its playground. It stays the same since years. It's in a really bad condition. But however the Zoo itself is fine. And the new museum there is really worth to be visited.
Jo N — Google review
To expensive for a family of 4. Are much more zoo's out there with more animals and stuff to do at reasonably prices. The kids loved it though and they've enjoyed the outsides parks.

A beautiful place with an extraordinary history dating back to 777 AD. However, it closes at 7 p.m. The garden and the water next to the bridge at the entrance are very beautiful. Unfortunately, there were several dead fish lying there, and I get the impression that no one cares!!

I love this place, you can visit the church or attend mass, after you can eat or drink in the restaurant, they are always nice. The souvenir store has interesting things and a little explanation so you get to know the history of the place a little better. You can also take a walk trough the gardens, they also have a store close to the by, which is more garden/decorations, and a mini market with fresh vegetables from their orchard, wine from their winery and some delicatessen. Bathroom and parking also available.

Architectural Buildings
Bummerlhaus, a 15th-century Gothic building in Austria, is now home to a bank but welcomes visitors during opening hours. It showcases frescos and an interior court typical of Stadtplatz burgher houses. The well-preserved late Gothic town house is considered a city landmark and features a large slanted tiled roof with cantilevered arch windows and rich decorations.
Nice gothic building at a smalll beautiful city.

(Translated by Google) One of the most beautiful and oldest preserved buildings in Steyr is the so-called “Bummerlhaus”. The facade bears witness to the immense wealth that the iron dealers in Steyr once earned, among other things. with the Venice trade. The Bummerlhaus takes its name from the golden lion, which the citizens of Steyr probably thought was too cute, which is why they called him Bummerl, a name otherwise used for small (rounded) dogs. Unfortunately, the inside of the building cannot be visited, which is why we had to deduct a star. Which is a shame, because inside there are the remains of a tower from the 14th century, a Gothic spiral staircase, beautiful vaulted rooms and much more. The Bummerlhaus is the best-preserved late Gothic secular building in Austria and the landmark of the picturesque iron town of Steyr.

(Translated by Google) Quite cozy Gothic style house, I find it very fascinating how old it is and how well preserved it is, although the square in general is beautiful and the house does not impose itself much more than the others. It should be noted that the tree you see in the middle of the square in the photographs should only be found at Christmas, at least in summer it is not there.

(Translated by Google) Speaking of the Bummerlhaus, it's Steyr's landmark. Everyone knows it. It's an old, venerable house with a rich history that stretches back a long way. Its beauty is evident in the interior and the courtyard, which is unparalleled, and of course, the golden lion that resembles a slow train. The story of this house is very interesting, as even an Austrian emperor was a petitioner.

Sights & Landmarks
The Linzer Mariendom, also known as the Neuer Dom, is a magnificent Roman Catholic cathedral in Linz. Designed by Vinzenz Statz in the mid-19th century, this neo-Gothic masterpiece boasts a 135m tower and can accommodate up to 20,000 people. The cathedral's exterior features an array of pinnacles, flying buttresses, and intricate stained glass windows.
One of the best cathedrals I have visited. The interior is very pretty, impressive. Beautiful stained glasses. I am glad I have made a stop in Linz. It is also free entry.
Changg C — Google review
Not as old as you’d expect but equally as beautiful. Love the modern interpretation with the replacement stained glass windows destroy during WW2. It’s an interesting space inside and definitely worth walking around and taking in the views. There’s a lovely cafe attached to the side. Free entry.

We climbed up to the top panorama floor of 630 steps. Only guided tour available, book in advance. Offered at some certain hours of certain days (weekends). The dom itself is huge and very nice inside.
Zoltán B — Google review
One of the largest cathedrals in the world. Since it was not allowed to be taller than St. Stephens in Vienna, its about 2 m shorter. There are a couple exhibits that show the building materials. The stained glass windows are absolutely amazing.

Museum
Event venue
The Ars Electronica Center, also known as the Museum of the Future, is a landmark building in Linz, Austria. Established in 1996 and relocated to its current futuristic location on the Danube in 2009, it offers technology-based exhibitions that showcase the city's role as a hub for technology, media, industry, and art. Visitors can explore one-of-a-kind exhibits related to science and technology, including displays on climate change, space exploration, biotechnology, and robotics.
Amazing, inspiring, huge. It’s hard to describe the diversity and breadth of what you can see at the festival.
Szymek D — Google review
This museum might be engaging for children under 10, but for others, it’s one of the most boring and disappointing museums I’ve visited in a long time. I entered with high expectations but was let down within seconds of seeing the exhibition. There’s little of interesting things, most of the time, I wasn’t even sure why I was there. The museum consists mainly of a few screens and wall texts, with at least half of the artifacts not functioning. They could easily create a website, copy-paste the texts, and post the few videos there instead. Overall, the museum feels undefined and empty. Here, you’ll only find what feels like random Wikipedia articles.
Jure F — Google review
Your enjoyment of this museum will likely depend on your interests. This museum goes pretty technical and fairly in-depth about all the available topics so if you aren’t particularly interested in them you might find the museum boring. The first exhibition didn’t suite my interests so I wasn’t interested but the AI part I found very interesting because AI is interesting to me.
Goodguy L — Google review
Located near the banks of a river with a beautiful view. Have a bus stop right in front of it. If while waiting for the bus for a long time with luggage one wants to visit this, no issue. There is locker facility to hold the luggage with lock and key arrangement. Special price on shows for senior citizens. Displays are not that great and informative. Not muchattractive for visitors. Children have some exclusive area for learning and fun.
Karthikeyan K — Google review
Some interesting exhibits especially the quite nerdy section on AI which goes into surprising detail and has some good demos showing how neural nets work. Just beware the 'deep space' show is nothing to do with the universe and more just a kalaidoscope projected onto the floor.
James F — Google review
Absolutely disappointing. There is nothing specific, mostly screens and texts. Better to go to the cinema for the good picture on the screen. I think it was the worst museum I have ever visited. Maybe it is fine for the children though.
Lazzabuda L — Google review
The Ars Electronica Center is a captivating fusion of art and technology. With its interactive exhibits and immersive displays, it offers a thrilling exploration of the digital frontier. A visit to this museum is an inspiring journey into the boundless possibilities of the modern age.

Mauthausen Memorial

Concentration camp memorial site
Museums
Memorial & museum at former Nazi concentration camp, with visitor center & audio tours.
We had an amazing visit to Mauthausen, all is very well conserved and very impactful. The entry is free, and for 5€ you can have an audioguide (without headset, but you can bring yours), but you can also have it online for free. I recommend going at first hour to be alone (which impress even more), because after it starts getting crowded.
Marc R — Google review
Was hesitant to visit due to the history, but so glad I decided to. They have done a wonderful job paying homage to the lives of the people lost. Very educational experiance.

Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for the guidance, explanations and tour we received from Ms. Angelica. It was a stunning experience by any measure. These days, two years after the October 7th event in Israel, and 80 years after the Holocaust, and the world has learned nothing.
אברהם ר — Google review
Very sombre experience, hard to imagine how one human can be so terribly cruel to another. Sad that the prisoner thought it was easier to take their own lives by jumping onto rocks in the quarry, below the camp. Eerie feeling about the place, but so many stories to hear.
DEB R — Google review
One of the most harrowing experiences of my life - coming face to face with the total rupture of humanity and watching the world explode with the same hate again was almost too much to handle. But the survivors and their families, and their optimism, brings hope!
David E — Google review
Was here for the 80th anniversary commemoration for the liberation of the camp, and on a separate occasion, I visited the museum and grounds. The museum is well put together and the exhibits are informative and comprehensive. I was here for several hours but I felt like it wasn't enough to truly absorb everything. The camp is located near a town by the same name, and it always makes me unsettled when I think about how many people lived in such close proximity to the camp during the war, and just kept on with their lives, ignoring the atrocities being committed just a few kilometers away. The town still exists today and is populated. I can't imagine living anywhere near this place, especially given that most of the Mauthausen inhabitants are probably descendants of Nazis.
Natan R — Google review
Very educational and a must visit to learn about the Holocaust victims and history of it. I grew up nearby so seen it during school time already, but the museum and all description have been enhanced by a lot. Also for english speakers no problem as all is also described in English and there is an app with audio guides as well in multiple languages, so everyone can visit and learn about this dark time of the history.

Outdoor Activities
Lipno, located in South Bohemia, is a picturesque area offering a range of activities for visitors. In addition to being a popular ski resort with chairlifts and a bobsleigh run, it also boasts lakeside resort hotels. The region is known for its scenic beauty and offers opportunities for cycling and inline skating. Visitors can also enjoy the local marina and unwind while taking in the romantic sunset.
Spectacular chairlift, a very good family program even outside the ski season.
Sandor V — Google review
Good ski resort for beginners and intermediate skiers. Free car park.Rent shop, supermarket and restaurant. All reasonably priced. The only problem, they had issues with the ski lift on the day and no one was able to tell us when they going to fix the lift. Luck of communication.
Igor R — Google review
Attention! The bike park is dangerous for you! Very disappointing experience at the bike park! The blue trail is definitely not suitable for beginners, even though this is what is communicated on the website. There are difficult technical elements, such as jumps, and at some places there is no easy alternative. The difficulty level doesn't correspond to what is communicated and also what is traditionally labeled as blue. The staff is either incompetent or quite unfriendly. After having a bike accident, we wanted to get down with the lift but the unfriendly guy at the lift just said No and yelled at me that my bike is not broken. Apparently the main lift can be used to transport bikes only up, not down, which is not written down anywhere. The place is designed to bleed you dry while not offering a good experience in return. Value for money is just low. The bike trails are very short and at least a few levels more difficult than communicated. And the fact that I fell and injured myself and they still refused to help me is simply unacceptable. I will never come back there again. Bike park Klínovec is 100 times better.

Nice size clean family appartment, well equipped. Good location, not so far from lake but VERY noisy at night. It is 12am and I cant sleep because of many loud guests in this resort. Acustic insolation between the appartments is very bad. We have 2 kinds of mattresses - one soft and one very hard. There is no gym, no inside pool and no in resort restaurant. Not much to do here when you get rainy days.

Treetop Trail Lipno offers a captivating experience with its scenic observation tower, treetop walking platform, and entertainment options like concerts and light shows. The expansive playground features 7 routes and 7 platforms of varying difficulty levels, winding through a picturesque forest with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and forests. Visitors can enjoy panoramic vistas of the lake from above, although it's advisable to be prepared for strong winds and cooler temperatures.
In my opinion, it is good that such places exist because it is difficult sometimes to plan activities for the family that are engaging enough for the small ones. It is amazing that it was open on a Saturday, despite it being a holiday. There could be more parking available on the location. It can be reached by car or by cable 🚡. There is food available at the location. There is a cool playground in front of the entrance, entry free. Not all personal speaks foreign languages. All in all, I recommend it. I like it and I think there are not that many things to complain about.

A nice experience , beautiful view , although a bit bexpensive to go up. You are not allowed to take pets up, but there are kennels for dogs at the bottom where you can leave them safely.
Alina T — Google review
Well, the slide was closed. It was very disappointing as we arrived with our kid, and it was supposed to be the high point of this stop. The entrance fee was really high IMO given no slide. The views from the top were gorgeous but still paying for the parking, then walking for 30 minutes, paying for the entrance, and no slide in the end made it a bit sour. Almost all the info is in Czech or German. I understand why it's like that, but adding English wouldn't have hurt and would have made it easier for us.
Serge L — Google review
A nice and special experience, but definitely not cheap. If you also take into account the cost of a cable car or bus to get to the site, then even an expensive experience, but definitely worth it. Amazing views of Lake Lipno open up to the eye, simply breathtaking how beautiful it is. There are several cafes nearby.
Eddy T — Google review
A great place to watch the lake and it's surrounded from above. There may be strong winds and a bit of cold, so be prepared. Tickets are bought in the Cash Desk or in the web. If you register for lipno card, you just need to enter your email in the tickets machine to get a discount. No need for the ticket itself. We took the cable car and all together it was expensive for a family. You may park at almost the top in a public place for free and take a walk through the wood and buy tickets in place. The cable car takes about 20 minutes. The whole trip is fun and enjoyable.
Idan V — Google review
Amazing view, easy climb, including for young children with a few fun stops kn the way. The slide down option, 3 eu pp was nice! Make sure to purchase ticketss ahead via lipno.info. You can take the cable car lift to get to the entrance and then walk down (~30 minutes easy walk) or take the cable car lift again.

A tip from me to you: For anyone who also thinks €19 per person is ridiculous🤣, check out the Dobra Voda observation tower in Horni Plana (two villages away) – it’s FREE. Combine it with the FREE deer park just a 1-minute walk away. And enjoy a beautiful walk along the Olsina educational trail. Oh, and here parking is free too!

Rožmberk Castle

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
13-century castle with Renaissance flair, now a museum with a preserved interior & antiques.
I will not talk about the beauty of the uphill view. It speaks for itself. There are regular tours taking place, but only in Czech. So, I understood nothing. It costs like 8€ cca, and it lasts for approximately 45 minutes. You get a file with the texts in the desired language, and that gives you an idea about what it is spoken about. The language barrier is not tragic at all. The tour is worth it anyway. Coffee and some drinks or ice cream are available from the shop.
Karina A — Google review
No English language tours, they have booklets with basic explanations in English. You can't go through the castle without a tour. Tour is rushed (45 minutes), and doesn't really give time to appreciate some of the amazing art. View is nice, but there are nice views all over the area. Eschew. Plenty of other castles to see in the area.
David C — Google review
The castle is very impressive inside and outside. There are tours every 30 minutes, mostly in Czech but you can get information book in your own language. The young lady who held the tour was super kind and spoke good English, so we could ask questions. You can also pay with card.
