Nestled in the enchanting town of Khajjiar within Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district, Khajjiar Lake is a stunning natural gem that draws travelers with its serene charm and picturesque surroundings. Often dubbed the 'Mini Switzerland of India,' this mid-altitude lake is embraced by lush meadows, towering cedar trees, and majestic snow-capped mountains, creating a breathtaking landscape reminiscent of European vistas.
"Mini Switzerland of India" Dense forests, huge meadows, and a lake in the center. It is a 21 km curvy ride through dense forests to the lake. The moment you reach Khajjiar, it compels you with its beauty. Beautiful green meadows, covered by forest, and a lake in the center make the place vibrant, enhanced by vendors and tourists. It is a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. #MiniSwitzerland #Khajjiar #HimalayanBeauty #TravelDiaries

Khajjiar Lake is situated in the middle of Khajjiar Valley. This is a small lake with lots of fishes. When we visited the lake most of the lake was covered with water grass. I think this lake need more maintenance.
Aniruddha D — Google review
Nice place. Much commercialized, but the beauty is superb, in the winters, when I got to see the frozen lake, making the place all white. I could only imagine, how much beautiful, it would be, if the place is remote with very less people. That would be gem in the middle of the forest. But the place is very much in demand, with lot of people visiting here & lot of business, activities, selling of products, etc going on. Resulting in lot of vehicles, traffic, mud, jams, horns, which takes away some of the serenity & beauty of the place. But, even then, a frozen lake is beautiful, which you mesmerize most. The place is, though quite clean, even after so much of human activities going on. Worth a visit. Share your like, if the review is appreciated, for it would mean that it is helping others out there exploring.

Khajjiar Lake is a beautiful place with green forest all around. Best place to spend some peaceful time with friends and family.

Visiting Khajjiar Lake in Himachal Pradesh was an enchanting experience that left me awe-inspired by nature's beauty. The moment I reached this picturesque location, I was greeted by the breathtaking landscape of lush green meadows, surrounded by towering deodar trees. I took a peaceful stroll around the lake, absorbing the tranquility and enjoying the cool breeze that gently caressed my face. ->For adventure seekers, there were options for horse riding and zorbing, which added an extra dose of excitement to the visit. -> Highly recommended for those seeking solace amidst nature's wonders! 🏔️🚶‍♂️📸

I visited Khajjiar shortly after the monsoon (one of the best seasons to visit). It is a sprawling green meadow with a marsh lake in the middle and surrounded all around by deodar trees. There is a cottage run by Himachal tourism situated right in the meadow (the iconic photo that you see when you search Khajjiar in Google), where you can book your stay through the Himachal tourism website. It was lush green and the weather was pleasant in September. The good thing about Khajjiar is that it's not overcrowded (yet). There is so much fresh air and tranquility. You can take a good walk around the perimeter and then sit on a bench and enjoy the view how much ever you want. This place is a great escapade from the noise and crowd of the city.

Khajjiar which is also known as Mini Switzerland truly lives up to its name. This majestic place is a must visit place in your lifetime. There are hardly any places like this in india other than Kashmir Doodh Pathri. I visited this place multiple times but every time this place feels special. Visited this place 9 months back too.

This is a small hamlet valley in the midst of mountain forests and high peaks. Its beautiful when cloudy and even prettier when sunny! Too many tourists, but it still holds on to its beauty. Happy to see, tourists have littered less here.

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Nestled in the picturesque Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is a serene haven for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. Located just 10 km from Dalhousie, this sanctuary boasts an array of wildlife, including bears and leopards, along with a vibrant bird population. Established in 1958, it has become one of India's most cherished wildlife sanctuaries. Visitors can explore scenic trekking trails that wind through lush greenery while soaking in breathtaking views.
Good place to spend peaceful time. You can sit here, eelax and enjoy beauty of nature. A true place for nature lover. If you want to spend a night here there are many home stays. But remember one thing mobile network here is very very weak and signals come only in some places. You can do a treak of around 3 km which is very easy normal walking, or you can come by car. There are many shops to eat snacks like Maggie, veg pakoda. And there is adventure park also but prices are high. Overall a very good place to enjoy.
Abhishek J — Google review
I visited Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, and honestly, it wasn’t what I expected. The 3 km uphill drive/walk was scenic, with a peaceful forest vibe, but I barely saw any wildlife along the way. The entry fee was ₹50 for bikes, which seemed reasonable, but there wasn’t much to explore once inside. If you’re looking for fun activities or major attractions, this might not be the place for you. The area felt completely deserted—I didn’t come across anyone else during the entire stretch, which made it a bit eerie. While the natural setting is nice for a quiet walk, I wouldn’t recommend it for those expecting an exciting experience.
Raj H — Google review
It’s about a 6 km round-trip walk from the starting point. You can pay at the gate and bring your own vehicle into the sanctuary; it costs 50 INR for a two-wheeler. However, I would recommend walking through it. It’s scenic, quiet, and beautiful, with tall trees on both sides, green fields, and plenty of photogenic spots.
Sarthak G — Google review
Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary – A Quick Take Just 6 km from Dalhousie, Kalatop is a peaceful, pine-scented escape perfect for nature walks and light treks. The sanctuary is home to deodar forests, Himalayan black bears, barking deer, and rare birds—though actual wildlife sightings can be rare. Scenic, clean, and quiet, it’s ideal for a half-day getaway. Don’t expect safari thrills—this is more about serenity than spectacle. Entry fee applies; roads can be bumpy but manageable.
Dr.Sneha P — Google review
Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary was quite disappointing. The narrow road leading up is in poor condition, and driving there is challenging since personal vehicles are allowed. This often causes traffic jams on the steep and tight roads, making the journey stressful rather than enjoyable. The entry fee of ₹200 with personal vehicle doesn’t feel justified, as there’s very little to see inside. I didn’t spot any animals during the visit. There’s just a small forest rest house from 1925 and a few spots to sit. The only highlight is the lovely hill view, where you can enjoy pakoras and tea at a rooftop viewpoint cafe. Overall, you can easily skip this spot unless you just want a quiet place for mountain views. It doesn’t offer much for the entry fee or the effort to reach there.
Jayesh G — Google review
It is just beautiful place. To reach you have to drive a dangerous road but it is adventures. In June it is a cold and clean place. There is no wild animal. No zoo
Master A — Google review
Kalatop wildlife sanctuary located almost 4km from Lakadmandi and almost 12km from city centre !! There was not good route to reach their in rainy season whole road was filled with mud !! And u can reach their by own vehicle , rented taxi or cab !! U can reach there by walk as well but u need to walk almost 1 hour !! Its peaceful place !! No ticket required for entry or neither for parking !! Plenty of cafes are there !! Overall good experience!! And last thing there was not a single animal there !! Its just gemic to catch attention of tourists
Kavish S — Google review
Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is situated near Dalhousie. You need to take local union cars to visit there. Small car fair 1200 and 1600 for suv. At the hill top there is a Forest Rest House which was made by British in 1925. Beside that a green lawn surrounded by huge pine forests. Also there are few small resturents run by locals and a small adventure perk. While visiting Dalhousie one can easily skip this place, as the place is not worthy so musc except the road. But in winter when this place is totally covered with snow then the place worth visiting more.

Dainkund Peak, located 17 km from Dalhousie Bus Stand, is the highest mountain peak in Dalhousie and a popular trekking destination near Chandigarh. The uphill trek of about 1.8 km from the starting point offers scenic views and leads to a temple at the top. During winter, the peak is covered in snow while in summer, it boasts beautiful green meadows and blooming flowers.
This trek is easy and can be done in half an hour. The scenes from the top of the peak are so beautiful. You can get a full 360° view of the Himalayan ranges. On reaching the top, there is a temple where you can pray and even have darshan of Mount Kailash using a telescope. Very beautiful place. We went when the snow was just about to melt in March.
Gaurav S — Google review
Amazing place to visit for everyone. Very easy trek, harldy 1/2 hr to reach on top. You can spend as much time as you want, you will be in between the clouds at top. There is Temple on top and various shops for snacks. Toilet facilities available. Near temple. We visited in month of September end it was very less crowded and peaceful. Parking available at road side.

Dainkund Peak is an absolute must-visit in Dalhousie! The hike to the Pohlani Devi Temple is beautiful and very enjoyable, with a well-defined, easy-to-follow path, so there’s absolutely no need for a guide. The trail is clean, scenic, and perfect for anyone looking to enjoy nature at a relaxed pace. Once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with stunning 360° panoramic views of the mountains and valleys around — truly breathtaking and worth every step of the hike. The cool breeze, peaceful surroundings, and wide open vistas make it a memorable experience. Highly recommended for nature lovers, casual hikers, and anyone visiting Dalhousie!
Komal P — Google review
Trekking at Dainkund Peak was an unforgettable experience, offering a perfect blend of serenity and natural beauty. As I ascended the trail, a peaceful silence enveloped the surroundings, broken only by the soft rustling of leaves and the distant calls of birds. The path meandered through lush green meadows and dense forest patches, gradually leading me above the clouds. Walking amidst the mist and cool mountain breeze felt surreal—as if nature itself had paused in quiet admiration. From the summit, the panoramic view of the surrounding was breath taking. It was a soul-refreshing journey, where every step brought a deeper connection to nature.

Amazing trek with beautiful panaromic.views.It is highest point of Dalhousie.I would say more scenic and beautiful than Khajiaar. It takes hardly half an hour to reach top from base. Complete the trek to reach Pohani Mata temple. Please seek advice from locals in case of inclement weather
Rohan M — Google review
Trek is easy. First 600 meters of the treck is inclined after that it's easy and the path is straight. Pohlani mata temple is at the peak and you can view manimahesh kailash if there is no fog. And the view is so amazing literally so beautiful. If you're visiting Dalhousie you must go here.
Chitrakshi R — Google review
One of the Best Place to visit Daikund Trek if you are planning to go to Dalhousie. It’s a 1.5 km trek. The gates will be closed on 4:00pm. Try to reach early. Must carry your water bottles, you will definitely need it. At the top there is a popular Pholani Devi Temple. View from the top is mesmerising. You will definitely love and enjoy it.

St. John's Church, located in Dalhousie, is a historic British-style Protestant church built in 1863 by missionaries. The church features Victorian-era architecture with wood and brick construction and houses glass paintings of Saints John & Peter. It is also home to a well-maintained library with informative books about the region's history and geography.
St. John Church in Dalhousie is a charming historic church located in the picturesque town of Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh, India. Built in the late 19th century, it is known for its beautiful architecture, serene surroundings, and stained glass windows. The church serves as a peaceful place for reflection and prayer, attracting both locals and tourists. Its location offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, making it a popular spot for photography and quiet contemplation.
Anand U — Google review
St. John's Church, located on Mall Road near Gandhi Chowk in Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh, is the town's oldest church and a significant historical landmark. Constructed in 1863, it was established after the arrival of Reverend John H. Pratt, who encouraged the Protestant community to build a permanent structure to replace the earlier wooden chapel. The church's architecture reflects Victorian-era design, characterized by stone construction with wooden beams, and bears resemblance to Roman Catholic churches of England, though it serves a Protestant congregation. Inside, visitors can admire stunning stained-glass windows depicting St. John the Baptist and St. Peter. The church also houses a library containing rare books and photographs that offer insights into Dalhousie's colonial past. Regular Sunday services are held, attracting both locals and tourists. Over the years, St. John's Church has become a popular tourist attraction, not only for its religious significance but also for its serene ambiance and historical value. Surrounded by lush greenery and offering panoramic views of the Himalayas, it provides a peaceful retreat for visitors seeking reflection and tranquillity. The church is open daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and entry is free of charge. Its location on Mall Road makes it easily accessible and a convenient stop for those exploring the town.
Ankur J — Google review
A spiritual heaven in Dalhousie. Inside, the aura of reverence is palpable. The flickering candles, the aroma of incense, and the soft hymns echoing through the halls create a sense of peace that is truly unparalleled. Moreover, the vibrant street market surrounding the church adds to the charm of the experience. From colorful trinkets to delectable street food, there's something to delight every sense.
Santosh S — Google review
One of the oldest churches in Dalhousie, surrounded by beautiful trees and colonial charm. But during my visit, the church was empty and renovation work was going on, so the peace you’d usually expect was replaced by a lot of construction noise. The structure itself is lovely from the outside, and it’s a nice stop if you’re walking around the area. Hopefully, once the renovation is complete, it’ll regain its peaceful vibe. Good for a quick visit — just not the quiet experience you’d expect from a hill station church (at least for now)
Shishir K — Google review
An architectural gem located in the heart of Dalhousie. Although I’m not a member of the church, I did appreciate the equanimity and beautiful setting
Bobby S — Google review
I would like to say one thing that this church has become my favorite. Going here gives a sense of peace. The nearby place is also very good for visiting and there is a place to stay as well.
Lucifer M — Google review
St. John's Church is a scenic, colonial-era spot located in the heart of Dalhousie. Popular among tourists for its architecture and photo opportunities, it’s often buzzing during the day. For a quieter experience, visit in the late evening when the surroundings are calm and peaceful. A quick, worthwhile stop if you're exploring the town.
Vaidehi S — Google review
This church is one of the famous tourist's attractions in Dalhousie which is just opposite Gandhi chowk. The church was not opened due to heavy snowfall so we managed to get in from the back door. As it was fully occupied by snow it was looking even more beautiful. Definitely, this church is a must-visit place.

Nestled in the picturesque town of Kangra, the Shaktipeeth Shri Vajreshwari Devi Temple stands as a testament to both spiritual devotion and architectural beauty. This revered Hindu shrine is dedicated to Goddess Vajreshwari and is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, believed to be where a part of Goddess Sati fell according to ancient legends.
Another Shaktipeeth near Dharamshala to visit when traveling there. One of the most beautiful and divine places to experience spirituality. Bit of a walk, climb required amidst a lane of shops, street to reach the temple but the experience after reaching is wholesome. Not much crowd when we went in but lots of monkeys so keep your belongings in check.

Nestled amidst the picturesque landscape of Kangra, India, the Kangra Fort stands as a testament to ancient history and architectural marvel. The fort, sprawling over 4 km on a hilltop at the confluence of River Banganga and Patal Ganga, boasts high walls and intricately carved stone entrances. Visitors can explore its rich heritage through audio tours and a museum displaying artifacts, sculptures, and photographs.
I visited Kangra Fort during my trip to Himachal Pradesh, and it was a wonderful experience. This fort is one of the oldest in India and is full of history and stories. The moment I entered, I felt like I had stepped back in time. The fort is built on a hill, and the views from the top are amazing. You can see rivers flowing below and the mountains all around — it’s truly a peaceful and beautiful sight. The walk up to the fort is a little long, with stone steps and ancient gates, but it’s worth it. Along the way, there are small temples and ruins that make you think about how people lived here hundreds of years ago. The information boards are helpful in learning about the fort’s history. As a visitor, I felt calm and curious. The fresh mountain air and silence made the experience even better. It’s not very crowded, which makes it a great place to explore slowly. If you love nature, history, and peaceful places, Kangra Fort is a must-visit. Take your time, enjoy the views, and feel the connection to India’s rich past.

Beautiful & historic Fort in Kangra. The architecture is beautiful & worth exploring. There’s lot of stairs to climb to get to the top where you get the view of beautiful river flowing & mountains covered with clouds. You can sit, enjoy the view or go for a small picnic. A small ticket of 20rs is needed for entry. Many people visit there with their families so might be slightly crowded. Restroom available inside is not very clean. Beautiful flowers & greenery inside.

Visiting Kangra Fort was an incredible experience! 🌄 The fort is majestic and steeped in history, perched on a hill with breathtaking views of the Kangra Valley. Walking through its ancient stone walls and gates, you really feel the stories of centuries gone by. The architecture is stunning, with intricate carvings and impressive fortifications that show the skill of the craftsmen of that era. The surrounding landscape is lush and green, making it perfect for photography or just soaking in nature. The site is well-maintained, though wearing comfortable shoes is a must because there’s a lot of walking and some steep climbs. Local guides are available and really add value by sharing fascinating historical anecdotes. Overall, Kangra Fort is a must-visit for history buffs, nature lovers, and anyone who appreciates breathtaking views combined with cultural heritage. Definitely a day trip you’ll remember! 🏰🌿

Beautiful fort. Tis incredible to see such feats of architecture so high up in the mountains of Himalayas. It is easy to get to, and the hike is not bad at all. It was not crowded when we visited. There's also a museum across from the Fort that you can visit to know about its history.

Kangra Fort - Amazing fort & museum, so underrated. Centuries of history, steeped in stone. Some claim it be over 2000 years old. Needs good guides and stone tablets to read. Good there were only a few people. It is a gem tucked just off the highway to Kangra & Dharamshala.

Such a nice place to visit and to know the history of Kangra better. You must have seen fort before but he speciality of this fort is that it is solely built on a mountain so it will give you a trekking with a fort vibe. Must visit if you are near by.

The views from the top are quite nice. But the place could be maintained much better — parts of it felt neglected, and there wasn’t much information to help understand its history. It’s worth a short visit if you’re in the area.

Sights & Landmarks
Masroor Rock Cut Temple, also known as Himalayan Pyramid, is a complex of monolithic rock-cut temples located in Masroor, Kangra Valley. The temple complex features ornate architectural carvings and is built in the shikhara style of classical Indian architecture. Dating back to the 8th to 10th centuries, these sandstone sikharas are hewn from living rock and are rare for North India.
It was an hour long drive from our air bnb in Rakkar, dharamshala. There are two routes, one going via tiara and gaggal road which is steeper and narrower than the state highway 23 road which has gentle slopes and obviously wider than the other but the distance is 9 kms more than the other. So the choice is yours. The place has relics of single stone carved temple. It's beautiful and so calm and serene. Whoever is interested in some history as well as some serene place, should absolutely visit and spend some time, just sitting and enjoying the beauty of nature around you.

On return from Dharamshala to Chandigarh we planned to visit Masroor Rock cut temple. It is a real wonder as temples are built on one Rock just as in Ellora. Though temples were affected by 1905 earthquake but one can see the temple. Restoration work is going on and idols have been kept for worship. However no one is allowed to offer money.
Ranjay V — Google review
A monolithic rock cut temple of around eighth century. The place is not so popular among tourists. The architecture is wonderful and amazing. Although it was damaged by the 1905 earthquake, still what remains is awesome. A must visit for history lovers.

Masroor Rock Cut Temples – A Hidden Gem of Ancient Architecture Visited on: 6th May 2025 On 6th May 2025, we explored one of Himachal Pradesh’s lesser-known but truly awe-inspiring historical sites —the Masroor Rock Cut Temples. Located about 40 km from Dharamshala, this archaeological wonder is nestled in the quiet village of Masroor, offering a rare and mesmerizing blend of history, spirituality, and natural beauty. These temples are believed to date back to the 8th century and are carved entirely out of a single rock, much like the famous Kailasa Temple in Ellora. The complex consists of 15 monolithic rock-cut shrines, primarily dedicated to Lord Shiva, though some also depict Vishnu and other deities from the Hindu pantheon. What’s most striking is the intricate detailing in the stone carvings—though many have weathered over the centuries, the remaining figures, pillars, and facades still hint at the grandeur of the original structure. The temples face the Dhauladhar mountain range, and there's a serene water tank in front that reflects the entire complex beautifully—especially during clear daylight. The site is relatively quiet and uncrowded, allowing you to explore at your own pace, absorb the silence, and marvel at the craftsmanship. There’s a calm, sacred energy in the air, and it's easy to feel transported to a different era. Highlights of Our Visit: - The panoramic view of the snow-capped Dhauladhars from the temple platform was breathtaking. - The cool stone interiors offered a welcome break from the summer heat. - The peaceful ambiance made it ideal for quiet reflection and photography. Travel Tips: - You'll need to purchase tickets online from the website of the Archeological Society of India - Best visited in the morning or late afternoon for softer light and fewer crowds. - Carry water and snacks, as there are limited facilities around the site. - Wear sturdy shoes—some parts involve uneven steps and rocky paths. - Respect the sanctity of the temple area and avoid climbing over fragile carvings. Final Thoughts: The Masroor Rock Cut Temples are a true hidden treasure of Himachal Pradesh. Though not as widely publicized as other heritage sites in India, they deserve much more recognition for their architectural and historical significance. If you're in the Dharamshala or Kangra region, make the time to visit—you’ll walk away with a sense of wonder and deep appreciation for ancient Indian artistry.

The Masroor Temple, also known as the Rock-Cut Temple, is an 8th-century Hindu temple complex located in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. It's a remarkable example of ancient Indian rock-cut architecture, carved out of a single sandstone rock. According to local mythology, the Pandavas built the temple during their exile. The temple complex consists of 15 rock-cut temples arranged around a rectangular water pond, reflecting the intricate carvings in its still waters. The temple showcases North Indian Nagara architecture style, with a central shikhara tower and a sacred pool. The temple is dedicated to deities to Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Devi, and Saura of Hinduism, with sculptures and reliefs depicting various gods and goddesses. The temple complex was first reported by Henry Shuttleworth in 1913 and is believed to have been built between the 7th -9th centuries AD.The temple is located in the Kangra Valley, 43 km from Dharamshala. The temple is open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.the Entry fees I think ₹25 And the Best Time to Visit in this month ie October to February forpleasant weather and festivals.

I went to Maharana Pratap Sagar. Maharana Pratap Sagar, in India, otherwise called Pong Reservoir or Pong Dam Lake was made in 1975, by building the most elevated earthfill dam in India on the Beas River in the wetland zone of the Siwalik Hills of the Kangra region of the province of Himachal Pradesh. It is great place to go.

Peaceful pilgrim place where people come from various parts of India to wish and pray for their goodwill. However the Sarovar is in bad shape and needs a lot of cleaning.

Pandori Dham is not just a spiritual destination—it’s an experience that touches your soul. The peaceful aura, divine energy, and unwavering devotion felt here are beyond words. Every corner tells a story—from the serene sarovar to the murals that bring the Ramayana alive. I felt deeply connected, grounded, and spiritually recharged. The langar, the darshan, and the presence of the 1108 Acharya Raghubir Das ji all come together to create a sense of belonging. It’s a place where time slows down, and the heart feels full. If you’re seeking inner peace and divine blessings, Pandori Dham is a must-visit.

Pandori Dham is a serene and picturesque destination. The main gate and spacious parking area make it convenient for visitors. The temple's interior is meticulously maintained, exuding tranquility. The temple complex features various sacred spots for worship and reflection. We visited with our family and felt a deep sense of peace. There's also a cave, now closed, which was once used as a passage. It's said to stretch far, even connecting to Haridwar. Outside the temple lies a serene pond with a Shiva idol. We strolled around, enjoyed the park, and spotted peacocks nearby. During rainfall, the place becomes even more enchanting. *Tips for visiting:* 1. Ideal for family outings. 2. Offers spiritual solace and peace. 3. Natural beauty and peacock spotting. Pandori Dham is a haven for spiritual rejuvenation and relaxation.

It is a significant Vaishnava establishment and part of a sacred network of 52 Vaishnav Dwaras. My parents say they are hooked to this place from Generations. So we have got to know this place from family only and we tend to visit twice or thrice a year. Whenever some marriage happens in my family, it is custom to donate bedsheets blanket and pillows here. Reason I don't know but that's what we are supposed to do as told by my great grand maternal mother. So recently we did that. Place is hub to nature. One can easily spot the peacocks here and all the Flora and fauna. The place has alot of importance. They say under guruji one pet dog specifically female dog just ate almost 50 KG opium in front of jahangeer जहांगीर badshah and then That king alloted the whole space wherever that dog went. Lot of parking space is available but the link road as of today was under construction which connects pandhori to national highway. Langar is available nearby 1 to 2PM. Tea snacks will be available from 4 PM. SBI bank and ATM are available here for working days only. One has to bow heads in front of Baba mahesh das ji temple while Coming and going also then only the visit will be completed. Market offers prasad which you can take along to temple. Do come and explore this place. Students cannot come without teachers. People come with newly married couples and get blessings of guruji. People come here to get the names of newly born babies. Visit and enjoy.

I stayed there on 13th January 2025. I had to stay for 20 days but I left the hotel very next day reason being a sardar ji at reception booked my room atRs 2900 plus GST for single occupancy and and provide me the room at AFC which was like servant quarter. The flush of the bathroom was not working. Room was below standard. Lights and mobile charging points were not sufficient. Food quality was very poor. The behaviour and way of talking of young sardar was very rude. Hospitality of the young sardar I remember Balbir Singh was below standard. I talked to the GM but no one was helpful. I passed one night any way and shifted to elsewhere. Hope you all never try to stay there.

As a seasoned sales professional who spends over 18 days a month in hotels across India, I rarely feel the need to leave negative reviews—but my experience at this hotel in Gurdaspur was truly unacceptable. Before booking, I checked several reviews on MMT and Google Maps. Despite noticing some negative ratings, I decided to call the hotel directly to inquire about the availability of a twin-bed room. The person who answered the call was surprisingly rude and dismissive, telling me he would call back—but I never received a response. After waiting for over an hour, I called again. This time, the staff claimed there were no twin-bed rooms available but offered me a deluxe room for ₹3,300, even though the same room was available online for ₹2,950 on MMT. I chose not to book online due to my growing doubts and went to the hotel personally to check the room. To my surprise, the twin-bed room was very much available, but the same staff member now quoted a price nearly 1.5x higher than what he had previously committed. When I politely requested the earlier quoted price, he rudely declined and arrogantly stated, “This is a 3-star hotel, if you don’t like it, you can go somewhere else.” Such behavior is highly unprofessional and completely unacceptable. The manager present at the reception (a Sardar gentleman) was manipulative in his conversation and clearly disinterested in customer service. For such a large property, this kind of mismanagement is not just disappointing—it’s a loss to the brand and its owners. This experience forced me to leave Gurdaspur and travel to Amritsar for the night, as I found no reliable hotel options in Gurdaspur that evening. Strongly suggest avoiding this hotel if you value basic courtesy, transparent pricing, and professional conduct.

One of the signs of the advent of the promised Messaih(as) as described by The Holy Prophet(peace be upon him) was that he will be raised near a white minaret east of Damascus. In accordance with Divine Instructions the promised Messaih(as) laid the foundation stone of this minaret on Friday 13th, March 1903. In his life time it was raised to 6 feet, then due to lack of funds the work on the structure had to be suspended. It was resumed by the Khalifa-tul-Masih II by laying a brick again on 27th November, 1914. The structure was completed, in the cost of Rs. 5,963 (excluding the 6 feet of first phase) in early 1916. It has three stages, 92 steps and the total height is about 105 feet. The clock was fixed in 1933. The minaret was designed by Syed Abdul Rashid and supervision of the second phase of construction was carried out by Qazi Abdul Rahim Bhatti. In 1938-39, during the time of Khalifa-tul-Masih II, the minaret was coated with plaster of white marble. It was veneered with white marble slabs in the total cost of Rs. 8,021,35.51 in 1980-81 in the time of Khalifa-tul-Masih III. Qadian is situated to the east of Damascus and the white minaret is the sign of peace and proclaims the Advent of the Prince of Peace, The Promised Messiah, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad

Museum
Visitor Centers
The Jang-e-Azadi Memorial, established in 2014, commemorates the sacrifices and contributions of the Punjabi community during India's fight for independence. Spanning 25 acres, this government-owned museum in Kartarpur showcases the rich cultural heritage and history of Punjab. With its beautiful architecture and numerous galleries depicting pivotal moments in the lives of freedom fighters, it has become a significant attraction near Amritsar and the India-Pakistan border.
Overall it was a good experience going there. The whole idea of the museum is to preserve the rich heritage of our freedom fighters and the movements they have made in their way of freedom struggle and the memorial does it well. The art galleries in the memorial felt very real. The paintings and sculptures are built so accurately. Only the ground floor is opened for visits comprising of 6 art galleries, the first and 2nd floor are not built yet. I really liked the ambience and the architecture. They also have a theatre inside which plays the movies of freedom fighters and anyone can feel the spirit inside the theatre. Taking photographs was not allowed inside the memorial. On the negative side, the memorial needs for maintenance and cleanliness. The washrooms were quite dirty. The memorial needs more efforts to be promoted as a good tourist attraction for family and kids as not much people were there during my visit. The memorial is quite big and have ample parking space most of that was empty that day. Just some schools kids were there. There was a canteen inside memorial but it serves only to the staff.
Shekhar S — Google review
This grand war memorial and museum, built at a hefty cost of ₹300 crore, could have been worth every penny if it had drawn large crowds. Sadly, whether due to inadequate promotion or a lack of public enthusiasm for the monumental contributions of Punjab’s valiant warriors to India’s freedom struggle, it’s failing to pull in the visitors it deserves. They must tie-up with educational institutions so that younger generation can get a glimpse of the hefty price our warriors paid for the freedom we are enjoying today. The memorial’s architecture is nothing short of breathtaking. It currently houses six galleries, each offering an authentic glimpse into the lives of Punjab’s freedom fighters, alongside other notable Indian heroes, through cutting-edge audio-visual technology. Most galleries are sensor-activated—step inside, and the audio-video presentations kick off seamlessly. The statues are strikingly lifelike, rivaling those at Madame Tussauds, though crafted from materials other than wax. You’ll find vivid depictions of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who fearlessly took on the British, Udham Singh, who avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by assassinating General Dyer in London, and the trio of Rajguru, Sukhdev, and Bhagat Singh, who took down General Saunders as he rode his motorcycle. Every detail is brought to life with remarkable realism. There’s also a movie theater screening shows every Saturday and Sunday. At ₹100 per person, the experience is well worth the price. The parking lot is impressively vast, the restrooms are spotless, and the spacious cafeteria serves up lassi, soft drinks, sandwiches, and patties at reasonable rates. While mobile phones are barred inside the galleries, you’re free to use them elsewhere—be it the open theater, sprawling lawns, or to snap the memorial’s stunning architecture for reels and photos. One glaring flaw, though: they only accept cash, no UPI. For a place boasting such advanced technology, this feels oddly out of step. They really ought to address this and bring payments into the modern age.

The museum is spread over a very large area and is very dedicatedly built with real looks like statues . On the ground floor it has mainly six galleries and the idea behind them is to explain the freedom struggle especially by the people of Punjab.one can get to know The work done by Maharaja Ranjeet Singh ji, the kuka movement ,the gadar party history, bhagat singh, jallianwallah bagh and much more. But the museum needs maintenance and publicity.

We can say it a must visit place in Jalandhar as the only other major tourist place after Devi Talab Mandir. Big ambience, nice statues and picture galleries with stories. One point less because a show was not conducted due to less crowds, and some people visited only for that show only. So it is good to confirm before visiting. We visited on Saturday. Also, it is difficult to get public transport. Auto took 250 INR to reach there. Ola etc cancelled the ride so many times. Some LCD etc were not working, it needed to be maintained properly. Pictures are not allowed inside.

As a government institution it’s an exceptional project , the artwork is amazing , the focus of the history narrative on Punjab makes it a more region specific narrative. However, if maintained it would be amazing. There is also lot of vacant space for more galleries and exhibits. Adequate parking. Acces from the highway is a little tricky .

Jang-e-Azadi Memorial near Jalandhar is a well-maintained, modern memorial dedicated to Punjab’s role in India’s independence, highly rated by both visitors and reviewers. Surreal place. Good atmosphere for praying. It is located in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab state. Very easily approachable through road. If you are planning to visit there, you will have to reach there before 10:00 PM and after 3:30 AM as the main door to the temple is kept closed between10:00 PM to 3:30 AM. You can stay overnight here in the rooms available in the temple premises itself and eat in the langar Hall. Parking with ample space is also right outside the TEMPLE which is paid parking. Even temple security is here which keeps vigil here night and day.

I visited this place after almost 15 years though I live just 30 KM away from here. Alot of things have been updated. Ample parking space is available here with people guiding what should be done and where to park. If the senior citizen could not walk upto temple then one can easily get a ticket from parking space and can get the vehicle to the nearby parking to the temple. But that space is very little. So plan accordingly. Washrooms are also available. Hygiene is not so good near by temple, this is one thing which is needed to focus on as a public also and trust also. Langar haal is also upgraded and alot of People can be accommodated at once. Darshan are available till 1215 PM max and then evening 4 PM so plan accordingly. Cars can come easily roads are OK OK not so good not so bad. Nearby market offers tea and snacks too. Langar haal will offer karhi and rice most of the times with chapati and sabzi. You have to collect and wash your own utensils after done. All in all very Nice experience.

What a place i had no clue that kapurthala have this much great history. I went there with my friend he told me about it. And this mahal is so impressive. And thank to those who kept it nicely as SAINIK SCHOOL.

Beautifully built, but of course not looked after properly. Walking thru, you can travel back to the time it would’ve been built - the passion, the vision, its use, the grandeur. Kind of sad to see it in its current run down state. But it’s still a gorgeous building to visit and marvel at its majestic grand beauty. The watchman at the gates were very friendly, as were all the school staff. Beware: you can’t rock up and enter. Since it now operates as a school, due to safety concerns Entry is strictly by permission. Basically you need to know someone who can account for you.

They don't let you go in anymore which is such a shame. It baffles me the policies the government puts in place where citizens of the country aren't allowed to visit it's treasures. Something for @sainik school and the administration of kapurthala to consider. We were asked at the gate to get permission from the DC office where they told us sorry, no permission given!

The Jagatjit Palace has been converted to a Sainik School. The school has been in existence for around four odd decades and has produced some outstanding officer for the defence forces besides other walks of life. The Jagatjit Palace has lost much of its original splendor and is presently in a rather dilapidated condition. The museum has lost much of its sheen and the school building too is in need of repair. However the palace does provide a glimpse of the grandeur that it once boasted including the marvelously painted, etched and sculptured artifact's. The grounds are an excellent place to visit, albeit after seeking permission from the school authorities.

I recently visited the Partition Museum in Amritsar, and I really liked it. The museum is very informative and gives a deep insight into the history and emotions of the Partition of 1947. The displays, personal stories, and photographs are very moving and beautifully presented. It gives deep sense of emotions when we learn the sacrifices of the innocent made because of few people's greed, stubbornness and unplanned activity. Overall, it’s a must-visit place.

This partition museum is about how the actual partition happened between India and Pakistan who fought together for independence but demanded different countries for different religions The Partition Museum is a public museum located in the town hall of Amritsar, Punjab, India.[1] The museum aims to become the central repository of stories, materials, and documents related to the post-partition riots that followed the division of British India into two independent dominions: India and Pakistan. The museum also focuses on the history of the “anti-colonial movement, the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the Komagata Maru incident, the All India Muslim League and the Indian National Congress, and the journey of resilience and recuperation for women”.The building wherein the museum is located in Amritsar was also “once the British headquarters and a jail”. The museum was inaugurated on 25 August 2017. Punjab In 1947, British India was divided into India and Pakistan. The partition lines, drawn on a map by the British lawyer Cyril Radcliffe, divided the province of Punjab and Bengal into two parts on the basis of religion. As a result, millions of people found themselves on the wrong side of the border overnight. According to various estimates, more than 800,000 Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs were killed in the riots that followed the partition between August 1947 to January 1948. Additionally, more than 1,400,000 people became refugees.

The Partition Museum, located in Amritsar, Punjab, is a unique and deeply moving institution dedicated to the memory of the 1947 Partition of India. It's the first of its kind in the world, serving as a powerful memorial and a central repository for the stories, artifacts, and documents from that tumultuous period. A "People's Museum" The museum's core mission is to tell the human stories of the Partition. Instead of focusing solely on political events, it highlights the experiences of the millions of people who were displaced, lost their homes, and endured immense suffering. The museum's collection is built largely on oral histories and personal artifacts donated by survivors and their families—things like clothes, utensils, and letters that people carried with them as they fled their homes. Location and Exhibits The museum is housed in the historic Town Hall building in Amritsar, a fitting location given the city's close proximity to the India-Pakistan border and its central role in the events of 1947. The exhibits are arranged chronologically, taking visitors through the events that led up to the Partition, the mass migration and violence that followed, and the subsequent efforts of rehabilitation and resettlement. Through photographs, videos, audio recordings, and personal belongings, the museum creates a powerful and often heartbreaking narrative. Why It's Important The Partition was one of the largest mass migrations in human history, with millions of people displaced and an estimated one to two million killed. For decades, there was no dedicated memorial or museum to commemorate this event. The Partition Museum fills this void, ensuring that the stories of the survivors and the legacy of this historical event are not forgotten. It serves as a reminder of the human cost of political decisions and the resilience of those who rebuilt their lives after such a profound upheaval. Very beautiful and well managed. They provide audiotours so you don’t have to worry if you know about history or not. It gives goosebumps while going through and getting to know things. 1-1.30 hrs is enough. No photography allowed inside. Ticlets are proced at Rs. 10. The theme is; as the name suggests- partition, what led to the partition and the aftermath! Do visit, it’s near Golden Temple Complex only. Closed on Monday.

Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar is a place which I always wanted to visit. More than a tourist destination; it's a very historical place historical which has left a lasting impression on every Indian. Having heard so much of the incident on 1919 when the British indiscriminately fired on and killed and wounded many Indians, visiting Jallianwala Bagh was a deeply moving and emotional experience for us. The moment you walk in, as you have heard a lot of on the event, you can feel the weight of history all around you. They have preserved bullet marks on the walls and the well with a tragic story behind it serve as powerful reminders of the sacrifices made during India's freedom struggle. Government has done some renovation also. A good step. The place brings in a strong sense of patriotism and gratitude. It is located at a walking distance near the revered Golden Temple, and a must see of any trip to Amritsar, offering a stark reminder of India's struggle for independence. A must visit historical monument for all Indians. There are a lot of informative displays and a garden area for reflection. The place was very crowded as we went on a weekend.

Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar is not just a tourist destination — it’s a sacred ground of history and sacrifice that every Indian carries in their heart. I had always wanted to visit this place, and being here was a deeply emotional and humbling experience. Having read and heard about the tragic incident of 1919, when innocent Indians were mercilessly fired upon by British troops, stepping inside the Bagh fills you with a powerful sense of grief and respect. You can almost feel the weight of history in the air. The preserved bullet marks on the walls and the Martyrs’ Well stand as silent yet powerful reminders of the immense courage and suffering of those who laid down their lives for our freedom. The recent renovations by the government have enhanced the site while maintaining its historical essence — a thoughtful step indeed. Located just a short walk from the Golden Temple, this memorial is an essential part of any visit to Amritsar. The informative displays, peaceful garden areas, and solemn atmosphere make it a place for reflection and gratitude. It was quite crowded when we visited over the weekend, but that only shows how strongly this place continues to touch the hearts of people. My visit to Jallianwala Bagh was one of the most emotional and meaningful experiences I’ve had while travelling. The moment you enter, the atmosphere itself feels heavy with history. This is not just a tourist spot—it’s a place that carries the pain, sacrifice, and bravery of countless innocent people who lost their lives on 13 April 1919. Walking through the narrow entrance, you immediately understand how trapped people must have felt during the tragic massacre. The preservation of the site is commendable. The bullet marks on the walls, the Martyrs’ Well, and the museum galleries are maintained with respect and detail. Each display, photograph, and written description helps you understand the magnitude of what happened here. The museum section is especially powerful, offering well-curated visuals, documents, and audio clips that make history come alive. The gardens and pathways are clean, the lighting is good, and the entire place is organized to handle heavy crowds. Despite being a popular tourist place, there’s a sense of silence and reflection everywhere. Security checks are smooth, and the staff is helpful in guiding visitors. In my opinion, Jallianwala Bagh is a must-visit landmark for every Indian. It’s not only a place to see but a place to feel. You leave with a deeper understanding of our freedom struggle and immense respect for the martyrs who sacrificed everything. Highly recommended for students, families, and anyone visiting Amritsar.

Jallianwala Bagh is one of the most historic places in India, carrying the painful memory of the tragic massacre of 1919. Visiting this site is both an emotional and educational experience, as it reminds us of the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle. The preserved walls with bullet marks and the memorial serve as powerful symbols of the disaster that should never be forgotten. The site is maintained well and provides proper historical explanations through displays and plaques, making it easier for visitors to understand the events that unfolded here. One of the best things about Jallianwala Bagh is that there is no entry fee, so anyone can walk in and pay their respects. It is located very close to the Golden Temple, which makes it convenient to cover both in the same trip. The garden closes at 5 p.m., so visiting early is recommended not only to avoid the harsh sun but also to have ample time to explore peacefully. Be cautious, though, as there are occasional pickpocketing incidents reported around the area, and police presence is limited. On the brighter side, the place is surrounded by plenty of restaurants. Entry and exit are through different gates, ensuring smooth movement of visitors.

Our family visited Sri Harmandir Sahib Gurudwara during 21 to 23 October 2025 Dipawali holidays Darshan. We stayed at Sri Guru Arian Devji Niwas, near campus. Due to the blessings of God, we took Darshan for 3 consecutive days, in a calm, tranquil, pious, religious atmosphere. We got Langar prasad. Beautiful, humbling place. There was so much to experience from the Golden temple to the jora service to the langar service to the gold sewa workshop. The museums on-site are also there to serve as a reminder of the resilience that Sikhs have had to have to survive and become a large community. There are many gurudwaras and soravars (lakes) on-site to take amrat as well. To be able to sit under the trees that some of the Gurus had done so was also wonderful. A beautiful place to visit.

The sight of the golden structure reflecting on the holy water is absolutely breathtaking, it feels serene and spiritual in every sense. The seva done by volunteers, from helping visitors to preparing and serving food in the langar, is truly inspiring. The langar experience itself is something everyone should have at least once, pure, and full of devotion. The entire temple complex is extremely well-maintained, clean, and beautifully organized despite the huge crowds. The pathway around the sarovar is peaceful for sitting or walking, especially in the early morning or late evening when the lighting makes it look magical. Overall, Sri Harmandir Sahib is not just a religious place but a symbol of peace, equality, and faith. No matter what your background is, you’ll feel a deep sense of spirituality here. A must-visit place that truly touches the heart.

Akal Takht Sahib, also known as Akal Bunga, is a significant religious site for Sikhs. Established in 1606, it is one of the five takhts in Sikhism and serves as a place for seeking justice. Situated next to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, it houses ancient Sikh scriptures and books. There is no entry fee to visit this sacred place, which is open from 5 AM to 10 PM daily.
The first and the most important t The first and the most important takht was established by Guru Hargobind in 1609: Akal Takht (the Throne of the Timeless God), located just opposite the gate of Harmandir Sahib (The Golden Temple), in Amritsar. While the Harmandir Sahib, or Golden Temple, represents Sikh spiritual guidance, the Akal Takht symbolizes the dispensing of justice and temporal activity. It is the highest seat of temporal authority of the Khalsa and the seat of the Sikh religion's earthly authority. There, the Guru held his court and decided matters of military strategy and political policy. Later on, the Sikh Nation (Sarbat Khalsa) took decisions here on matters of peace and war and settled disputes between the various Sikh groups. Jarnailsinh Bhindranwale occupied it in 1984. To make Akaltakht free from Jarnailsinh Bhindranwale and his followers, Indian Army attacked on them. This was damaged and rebuilt.

Sri Akal Takht Sahib was built by Guru Hargobind Sahib with the help of Baba Buddha Ji and Bhai Gurdas Ji. The nine feet tall concrete slab was revealed by Guru Hargobind on June 15, 1606, when he wore two swords, the Miri and the Piri, which indicate his temporal and religious authority, respectively. Every year on July 2 the Sikh community across the globe honours the establishment of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. It is one of five takhts (seats) of the Sikhs which is considered to be the first and most important Takht situated in Amritsar. The Dharamshala was good, but something I didn't like was the Khatmal on the beds, I couldn't sleep the whole night and had to change the room the next day. My visit was pretty good besides the room issue. There is a restaurant near Dharmashala and a sweet shop as well. The restaurant is just a few steps away from the Dharamshala and its Chhole Bhature prepared from Desi Ghee. The taste and everything is undefined. The purity, my experience was the best about the food and other shops. It's worth the time and money. It is affordable, no offence. I recommend the Rasmalai and chhole bhature! Whenever you go to Amritsar or visit The Golden Temple, make sure you grab a bite of these. May Guru Nanak Ji Bless You!

Both temples hold an equal amount of importance in the city in terms of worship. The Durgiana Temple is also known as Sitla Mandir, Lakshmi Narayan Temple and Durga Tirath temple amongst the locals in Punjab. According to Hindu mythology, many incidences took place in this temple wherein one incidence Lava and Kusha (Children of Lord Rama) tied Lord Hanuman to a tree in the temple as a challenge. And in another incidence, it is said that the grandson of Lord Surya, Iksvaku, had performed a number of yagyas in the same area. Therefore, according to Hindu Mythology, the land of Durgiana Temple is considered as a holy land. Since the Durgiana Temple is built in the middle of the sacred lake, it is said that the temple holds holy power which helps people with their problems. Since there are many temples located in the city of Amritsar, it is the best city to be in the list of your pilgrimage tours. It is a brilliantly built temple.

Fortress
Gobindgarh Fort, a historic fortress dating back to the 17th century, is a significant part of Amritsar's heritage. Spanning across 43 acres, this fort offers visitors an immersive experience through infotainment shows such as light and sound displays, a museum showcasing its history, and exhibitions. The fort also hosts cultural performances including bhangra and gatka shows.
Visiting Gobindgarh Fort was an incredible experience — a fascinating blend of history, heritage, and modern technology. The 7D show was absolutely thrilling, bringing to life the glorious era of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in a way that leaves you spellbound. The museum, live performances, and cultural exhibits beautifully showcase the rich legacy of Punjab — from its bravery and tradition to its music and art. Every corner of the fort tells a story, making it an experience you’ll never forget. A perfect destination for those who want to feel connected to Punjab’s pride, culture, and spirit — all in one place. Truly, Gobindgarh Fort is where the past meets the present in the most inspiring way! 🇮🇳❤️

To be honest I was quite disappointed with the whole experience. The ticket prices are little high for what they offer. The Bhangra troupe was excellent. Apart from that, everything else was sub par I would say. Especially the hyped 7DX show. I have seen way more immersive and better shows in theme parks. Overall I would say, if you have the time and money to spend and really really want to explore something new, then only visit the place.

The fort is quite good - clean, maintained. They have some activities which can take some time (short movie, a pmpagdi/turban museum & some activities lined through +food & shopping).. Overall ~2 hours (minimum) to peacefully roam around the place.

A fort of historical significance, but suffers low maintenance and inadequate patronage. There is a Pagdi museum, good Bhangra performance and a 7D movie show on Maharaja Ranjit Singh which would be liked by the Children (different going that the glitches in movie visuals have gotten fixed by now). Tickets cost about 350 per adult and it is recommended to visit in the evening. A battery cart (chargeable) takes visitors from the ticket counter to fort location, which is about a 500m walk otherwise. Though there are eateries, I could not venture to try them.

We really enjoyed visiting this fort. But we were surprised for entrance fee for foreigners 700 INR! Including is 20 min.long 7D movie about Maharaja. It’s very overpriced. At least we made nice photos there.

It's an interesting and huge fort. As foreigners, we paid 250 Indian Rupees per person as entrance fee. There were not a lot of visitors.

(Translated by Google) Mata Lal Devi Temple, located near Rani Ka Bagh, Amritsar, is a highly famous and revered religious place. It is also known as "Vaishno Devi of Punjab". This temple is built in the honor of Mata Lal Devi, who is considered a saint and is considered to be a symbol of divine powers. This temple is especially famous for female devotees, who come to seek blessings from the Mother Goddess for having children. The architecture and structure of the temple is similar to the Vaishno Devi temple in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. The caves, narrow passages and flow of water inside the temple give an experience like a visit to Vaishno Devi. Apart from this, idols of various gods and goddesses are installed in the temple, making it an important pilgrimage site. Special events are held here during Navratri and other Hindu festivals, and thousands of devotees come to visit. Mata Lal Devi Temple is known for its miraculous experiences and faith, and has an important place among the religious places of Amritsar. Ghanshyam Prajapati
