Nestled in the serene surroundings of Darjeeling, the Darjeeling Ropeway Homestay offers a tranquil retreat away from the bustling town. The homestay provides spacious rooms with broad windows that offer breathtaking views of the majestic mountains and the iconic Ropeway. While some guests have noted minor issues such as occasional electrical glitches and a lack of certain amenities, they praise the warm hospitality provided by the host.
Location of this homestay is pretty near to the Ropeway Darjeeling from where you can enjoy a joy ride with the Ropeway and experience of whole mountain overview. Rooms are very good, you can enjoy the scandid beauty of KachanJangha Hill from the window and Specially the Hospitality provided us was awesome. We are very happy with our selection of staying at Darjeeling, from where we can go other site scenes also very easily. Our Overall experience was simply Awesome. Here I Uploaded some of our staying experience. One of the photo shows the Location of Homestay seeing from the Ropeway while riding back.

It is simply great experience. It's located away from crowdy Darjeeling town, the place is great for a pleasant and calm stay. Mountains are visible from the broad window. Ropeway can be seen too. Service is great. Uncle is great, he takes due care of guests. Food is tasty. Only thing rooms are a bit shabby, there is no long mirror, and there is some issue in electric line. Lights get automatically switched on/ off. Rooms are spacious. A bit cleaning and arranging staff would make it 100/100. It's pocket friendly as well.
Agnibesh R — Google review
Really nice place to chill and relax if you really want to disconnect from overcrowded Darjeeling, the host was really really helpful , Dikki didis food was really good . Just One lil problem is you , there is really poor internet network , So if you really want to disconnect thn it's a perfect place for you ♥️ Overall cleanliness was good

The one thing that hits you as you visit this place is the humbleness of Mr Rajesh. He is a person with a golden heart. He makes you feel like a guest treats you like a guest and is always with a smile. I am trying my best at being modest but this man has so much in him to like. Being a one man army he is very helpful and tries his best to fulfil all tantrums which the tourists bring to him. Generally people are circumspect being in an unknown place, but this man literally makes you feel at home. Special mention to the food he serves its just yummy. This is not a luxurious place but just apt for tourists also there is a car park very near to this property. The clock chime in a chilled night from North Point School was so beautiful.I Will have only good words for this place and Mr Rajesh and his friend Kenny who was there during our visit. May God help them to have success in life.

I have been to this homestay for quite a number of times now. The homestay is 3 minutes (walking distance) away from the shared taxi stand (aka Singamari Motor stand). As you walk towards the homestay, you will be able to see one of the reputed schools, St Joseph's school, locally known as 'NP', North Point, in Darjeeling. When you arrive, you will find that the place has 3 rooms. Two large rooms which can sleep 5 people each (if you don't mind sharing beds) and another room which can sleep 2 people comfortably. All three rooms have attached bathrooms with electric hot water geysers. On clear days, the views from the rooms can be pretty spectacular. Even the Kanchenjunga mountains can be seen from the rooms. The cable cars/ropeway passes by the homestay and can be a very interesting experience watching the reactions of people inside the cars. Dikki, the owner's sister, is the lady who will be responsible for cooking your meals and hosting you. She is a polite, warm and cherubic person. The meals prepared by her are quite simple, yet delicious. The perfect example of a home cooked meal. Mr. Rajesh Pradhan, the owner, is a soft spoken, polite and helpful man. If he has time on his hands then he will personally attend to you. The Darjeeling Ropeway Homestay is for people who like the rustic experience of a home rather than people looking for posh and blingy hotel experiences. If you are looking to have the experience of a hotel when you stay here, then this place is not for you. Here, you will be treated as family and not just a paying customer. And if you can reciprocate in kind then your stay will be wonderful. Thank you Dikki and Rajesh for having me. It is always a pleasure to meet you guys. I look forward to seeing you again soon. Much love and regards to you both.
Aditya S — Google review
The most awesome thing of this Homestay is the location. You will get a good view of the 'Queen of Hills'. Foods are good, but not that much spicy. Those people who are health conscious will love it. And last but not the least the behaviour of Rajesh bhai is awesome. ❤️ He is so friendly and honest. You'll definitely love it.
Sayantan B — Google review
The rooms are a bit shabby but the woman in charge is very warm and welcoming. She took very good care of us and tried her best to make us feel comfortable. The view was great, St Joseph's on one side and ropeway on the other. I hope they will maintain their rooms better.

1. Owner and his family is best person to spend our time 2. Behavior of Rajesh bhai is so warm and heartfelt 💓 3. Food Quality is great and we loved his sisters cooking. 4. Sandakphu, also known as Sandakpur, is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. Situated in West Bengal, India, this mountain peak offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas and Mount Everest. The trek to Sandakphu is challenging but totally worth it as it rewards you with mesmerizing sunrise and sunset views. The surrounding landscapes are stunning with snow-capped peaks, lush valleys, and vibrant rhododendron forests.
Sandakphu... Top of West Bangal... 🏔 You can visit this place in two way, one is trekking... Another is by Land Rover. Sandakphu is famous for the magnificent view of Kanchenjunga family & Everest family. The perfect visibility of "Sleeping Buddha" Appears from here... If you don't visit Sandakphu, do it first... You will get a unforgettable memory... 🏔🤍

Fantastic place but the road from Tumling will be hell even in a 4x4. It's very cold (once it gets cloudy and chilly) even in October so take appropriate warm clothes. Ideal for treks. Do not mess with the yaks and the horses. The yaks might chase you thinking you have salt. Running water is a big issue here.
Pritesh C — Google review
West Bengal s highest mountain peak but it is very crowdy. Beautiful sceneries can be seen from here . Most favourite trekking attraction is sandakhfu for trekkers. You can also come this place by landrover but trekking is more adventurous.
Debraj B — Google review
One of the most beautiful place I have ever visited. I was there in the month of February 2024. It was a bit off season and at night temperature was around -5 degree. Hotel sunrise is one of the choices for staying there. But when I stayed there , there was no electricity, so as usual there was no room heater or anything to keep us warm, so in that climate condition it was a bit difficult for all the travellers. Even glass windows were frozen inside the room. But the very next day when we saw the clear sky and the beautiful sunrise , all our exhaustion had turned into joy and happiness.you can visit the place either by hiking or by car , you can reach to Manibhanjan from NJP , from Manibhanjan you can hire a guide if you want to reach the place by trekking,it’s a 4 days trek only for sandakphu , and if you want to cover Phalut , then it’s a 5 days trek. Another option is you can take the legendary Land Rover or Mahindra Marshal kind of jeeps to reach there. If the sky is clear then you can see the most mesmerising view of Kanchanjunga range. I am sharing some photos from my gallery. Keep travelling keep knowing the u know.
Dr.Sandip D — Google review
Reach there via Phalut. Trekked approx 21 KM. Exhausted, dwindling somehow reached the trekkers hut. But the next day sunshine gave the tranquility I craved for long

Sandakphu is the highest point of the ridge and of the state of West Bengal, India. The peak is located at the edge of the Singalila National Park and has a small village on the summit with a few hotels. Four of the five highest peaks in the world, Everest, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu can be seen from its summit. Must visit place in West Bengal, its beauty is beyond expectation.
Souditi C — Google review
One of the most difficult terrain to conquer. ROADS are almost non existence. But adventurous. If you're looking for adventure you can definitely visit this place. View of Kanchenjunga is Mesmerising and the sunrise is just wow
Niraj B — Google review
The last 14 km trekking from Tumling to Sandakphu is totally WORTH it!! I would suggest everyone who lives in West Bengal to atleast visit this place once in their lifetime. This place is indescribable and unbelievably BEAUTIFUL! ❤️ One of the best place I've been. Very cheap, if you know the place and people. If you want to go by car, book Land rover car from the ticket counter. It will be very cheap for you. PLEASE don't allow the "Tour Guide" book the Hotels and Cars, they will charge double. The Guide will tell you Hotels/cars are not available etc... Just to fill up their pockets. Always book cars and hotels by yourself. Don't go for so called guides (dalals). People are very nice and helpful over there.. I've been to this place two times.

This waterfall is truly a breathtaking beauty, away from the noise of the main road. With multiple cascading layers. Surrounded by lush greenery, the entire area feels untouched, serene, and refreshingly pure. Refreshments shops are also available at this point. Please note: reaching this spot isn’t easy. The route from the main road requires a downhill drive, It takes some patience and a bit of effort. But every moment of the journey is worth it. Once you arrive, the view, the sound of the water, and the peaceful surroundings make it worth the effort. If you enjoy hidden natural spots and don’t mind a bit of an adventure, this waterfall is absolutely worth discovering.

🌿 Rock Garden, Darjeeling – A Hidden Gem in the Hills! Visited the Rock Garden recently and it was an amazing experience! The beautifully layered rock steps, cascading waterfalls, and lush greenery make it a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. The cool breeze, sound of flowing water, and scenic mountain backdrop create a peaceful vibe you won’t find elsewhere. There are plenty of great photo spots and places to sit and enjoy the view. It’s also a good spot for a quiet picnic or just a walk to unwind. The road to the garden is a bit steep and winding, but the journey is worth it once you reach this beautiful location. Highly recommended for nature lovers, couples, and families visiting Darjeeling. A peaceful escape from the hustle of town, and definitely worth adding to your itinerary!

This is an awesome place to visit with family and friends 😊.the waterfalls, environment, ambience, view everything is too good. If anyone goes there surely they will enjoy it. Me and my family go there twice and we like this place, especially my grandfather likes this place too much ,although he can't climb stairs but still he enjoyed it. You don't need to enter and the ticket price is also reasonable. But there was a thing that you knew before you went to visit, that is the price of everything there is 5 rupees more than the MRP.
Arzu R — Google review
Wowwww what a beautiful place,,,,The Rock Garden is a very beautiful place. You can climb very high and there are many waterfalls, but the road to get here is very bad.You have to be very careful here, the road here is very steep. Since you have to go down a lot, the road is very bad, but once you go, you are bound to feel better.
Pinki G — Google review
Okay listen—if you think this is just a cute little picnic spot with a pretty waterfall… THINK AGAIN. I went in thinking it’s a chill place. Ten minutes in, I was climbing stairs like I was in a Himalayan boot camp! 🥵💪 You have to walk… and walk… and WALK. At one point, I thought I’d need oxygen and a rescue team. My legs filed an official complaint against me halfway up. 😩 BUT—plot twist—the views? STUNNING. Like nature said, “Yeah I made you suffer, but here’s your reward.” The waterfall is beautiful, the rocks are dramatic, and the vibe is like a nature spa if you ignore the 100 people taking selfies all around you. 📷💦 Always packed. You won’t be alone unless you visit at sunrise (and even then, uncle-ji with the DSLR will be there before you). So final verdict: Great for Instagram, terrible for lazy people. Wear shoes. And if you can’t walk a lot—just look at the pictures online and save your knees. 😂

The garden spans an impressive fifty thousand square feet and showcases an array of beautiful flowers and plants. This spot offers panoramic views of Darjeeling and was designed to facilitate easy navigation around the area's terrain.
Owners are so soft-spoken and extremely extremely helpful ... They keep an sharp eye for all the comforts of the guests ... They provide few services (which few hotels charge money for) without even charging anything and even help the guests out if they are facing some problems during their stay ... They have magic in their hands as their home-cooked food with fresh ingredients are at another level which will force someone to gain 3-4kgs, can't stop drooling over their cooked meals ! 🤤The view of the toy-train passing by is the cherry 🍒 on the top 😍

Yiga Choeling Monastery, also known as Old Ghoom Monastery, is a 19th-century Tibetan Buddhist monastery located near Darjeeling. Established in 1850 by the Mongolian astrologer and monk Sokpo Sherab Gyatso, it features a 15-ft Buddha statue and sacred texts. The monastery is one of the oldest and most popular in the region and is a must-visit attraction.
A beautiful monastery with a calm and peaceful vibe. It's colorful and vibrant on the outside. The climate and 19degree temperature was a cherry on the cake. The area is surrounded with greenery and the most beautiful flowers growing in the wild. People are cheerful and very very polite. It's located in a very quiet neighborhood across the lush green mountainous range with very loving people.
Betina J — Google review
Perched at an altitude of about 8,000 feet, the iconic Yiga Choeling Monastery (a.k.a. the Ghoom Monastery) in Ghoom is one of Darjeeling’s oldest and most revered Buddhist monasteries. Built in 1850 by the Mongolian monk Lama Sherab Gyatso, this sacred site offers a serene escape from the bustling hill town, surrounded by the crisp mountain air and the peaceful chants of monks. At the heart of the monastery is its massive 15-foot-high statue of Maitreya Buddha, also known as the Future Buddha, which is said to be crafted from clay brought from Tibet. The monastery follows the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism, the same lineage as the Dalai Lama. Its walls are adorned with intricate thangka paintings, ancient manuscripts, and vibrant murals, depicting Buddhist teachings and life stories of great Lamas. Interesting Facts: 1. One of the Oldest in Darjeeling: Yiga Choeling Monastery has been a center of Buddhist learning and meditation for almost 175 years. 2. Ties to Tibet: Many of its sacred texts and artifacts were brought from Lhasa, Tibet, making it a repository of rich Tibetan culture. 3. A Meditative Retreat: Visitors often find the monastery to be a perfect spot for self-reflection and mindfulness, with breathtaking views of the Kanchenjunga range on clear days. Verdict: Whether you’re a history buff, a spiritual seeker, or just someone who enjoys a quiet moment in the lap of the Himalayas, the Yiga Choeling Monastery is a must-visit. It’s not just a monastery — it’s a doorway into Tibet’s spiritual heritage, right in the heart of Darjeeling. Serenity, culture, and history — all rolled into one mystical experience!

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, also known as the toy train, has been operating since the late 1800s and is one of the few hill railways still running in India. This mountain railway with steam locomotives winds through scenic terrain and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1999. Visitors can enjoy two-hour 'joy rides' from Darjeeling to Ghum and back, pulled by antique steam locomotives or diesel engines.

Nature & Parks
Gorumara National Park is a vast floodplain and forest national park that covers an expansive area of almost 50 square miles. The park houses diverse wildlife, including rhinos, elephants, and leopards. For visitors looking to explore the park, it's recommended to opt for a jungle safari rather than a watch tower Safari. The best time for a jungle safari is during morning slots when chances of spotting an elephant are particularly high.
Review of Garumara Jungle Safari – 20th April Our experience at the Garumara Jungle Safari on the 20th of April was nothing short of incredible. I had the pleasure of going with my team, and it was a day filled with adventure, bonding, and nature at its finest. From the very beginning, everything was well-organized. The forest guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about wildlife. The thrill of venturing into the dense forest, with every turn holding the possibility of spotting something wild, kept us all excited throughout. We were lucky to witness a variety of animals, including deer, peacocks, and even a few elephants in the distance. The sounds of the jungle, the fresh air, and the serenity of nature offered the perfect escape from our usual routines. My team truly enjoyed the experience — from the bumpy jeep ride to the scenic watchtowers, every moment felt special. It was also a great opportunity for us to unwind, connect, and share some laughs in the heart of nature. A big thanks to the team managing the safari — your efforts made this adventure safe, informative, and memorable. Highly recommended for nature lovers and teams looking for a refreshing break together!

This forest is like a rainforest!! As it’s completely different from jaldapara national park! Gorumara forest is a dense forest and completely green!! The scenery really really soothes the soul! In my opinion Must visit this place! And lose yourself in the lap of nature!!

Tourist trap. Through and through. For the Matla Tower: You must pay for a guide who only talks when you ask questions. You pay for the jeep driver to drive and talk to the guide. You’re obligated to pay for a bullock cart ride, who takes you the remaining distance to the tower, even though the jeep could’ve done that. You see some bison licking a salt lick that the locals placed. You see some captive elephants. Maybe you see a peacock and some deer… Seems very uncommon that people see rhinos. The price is still low, but visiting a zoo would be a better use of time. I should add, we planned to do a safari, but staff at the ticket counter convinced us we’d see more wildlife with the tower because it goes into the park whereas the safari apparently skirts the outside of the park? Who knows- a group at our hotel went on the 6am safari and said they only saw a baby peacock. 🤷‍♂️

Gorumara National Park is a true gem in the Dooars region of West Bengal. It offers an amazing opportunity to experience the rich biodiversity of North Bengal up close. The park is famous for its population of Indian one-horned rhinoceros, but you can also spot elephants, bison (Indian Gaur), deer, wild boars, and a variety of birds including peacocks and hornbills. I had the chance to go on a jeep safari, and it was a memorable experience. The forest is dense and green, with the sounds of birds and the wind through the trees making it feel magical. Our guide was knowledgeable and respectful towards the wildlife, which made the journey even more meaningful. The watchtowers inside the park, like Jatraprasad and Medla, offer stunning views of the forest and the animals in their natural environment. The park is clean and well-managed, and the local people are friendly and welcoming. Gorumara is a perfect getaway for anyone who loves nature, photography, and wildlife. I highly recommend visiting this place to feel the beauty and tranquility of the forest. It’s an experience you won’t forget.

The famous places for the jungle safari atJatraprasad and maidla watch tower we had done the jatra Prasad booking for our jungle safari and the Jeep cost was 1700 including guides fees.

Great experience on a safari . Did the 3:30 pm jeep safari followed by the cultural show where members of the Tribal groups perform their dances. For the cost, I would have liked the jeep safari to be longer and waits at the lookout points to be longer. Just paused for 10 mins and since there were no animals , we moved on. Safaris involve waiting and watch in and I felt hurried.

Gorumara National Park is one of the most beautiful wildlife destinations in North Bengal, located in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. The park is famous for its rich biodiversity and scenic beauty, especially its population of the one-horned rhinoceros. The lush green forests, grasslands, and rivers create a perfect habitat for elephants, bison, deer, leopards, and many species of birds. The early morning and evening jungle safaris are the main attractions, offering a thrilling experience of spotting wild animals in their natural surroundings. The watchtowers like Jatraprasad, Rhino Point, and Chapramari provide a stunning panoramic view of the forest and wildlife. The park is well-maintained, and local guides are knowledgeable and friendly, making the visit both enjoyable and educational. Overall, Gorumara National Park is a must-visit for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. Its peaceful environment, natural charm, and thrilling safaris make it one of the best eco-tourism spots in West Bengal. Best time to visit: November to March

Okay, Gorumara is straight-up old-school jungle safari in West Bengal. The main flex here is spotting the Indian one-horned rhino, which is a rare vibe check. You definitely gotta book an elephant or jeep safari if you wanna see the real action, like bison and deer. Solo traveler-wise, it's super structured—you gotta have a guide and follow the park timings, which is actually safer when you're out alone. The lookouts, espcly the one near the Murti River, are fire for watching the rhinos hang out. It's not a place for aimless wandering, but for intentional wildlife sightings. The accommodation options outside the park gate are chill. Pro-tip: Go in the dry season for the clearest sightings. Vibe: Structured jungle immersion, rhino hunting with a camera.

The Hong Kong Market in Siliguri is a bustling and well-established market offering a wide range of products such as clothing, electronics, cosmetics, and food. It is renowned for its affordable foreign goods and international branded items including apparel, bags, beauty products, footwear, lingerie, watches, and electronic gadgets. This market franchise has gained popularity in West Bengal and Assam for its diverse offerings at reasonable prices.
1. A lot many thing one can shop here. 2. The place is surprisingly clean and well maintained (except the public toilet -which is pay and use, but is filthy) 3. People are kind. (I noticed that whenever they give you anything, they do it with both hands, and i think it looks courteous 😊).

"A Bargain Hunter’s Delight in the Heart of Siliguri". Huge variety of imported and local goods at highly competitive prices, the market's lively atmosphere, with colorful stalls and animated vendors, adds to its charm. Quality varies especially for electronics, bargaining required or else overpaying is common if you're not cautious
Abhisek S — Google review
Welcome to the iconic Hong Kong Market - Siliguri’s answer to every shopaholic’s wildest dreams — and every husband’s worst nightmare. This iconic bazaar isn’t just a market; it’s a high-octane shopping safari, with bargaining as the official language and “fixed price” a fictional concept. Tucked in the heart of Siliguri, this place is as chaotic and colorful as a Holi party on roller skates. It’s famous (read: borderline notorious) for selling everything from branded lookalikes to genuinely unbranded originals, all imported — well, allegedly — from Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan, and of course… Hong Kong (wink wink). What’s in the Bag? - Electronics that may or may not live beyond their warranty-free existence. Earphones, trimmers, speakers — you name it, they’ve got five versions of it in five different spellings. - Fashion items that are 99% style, 1% stitching. From ‘Gucci’ belts to ‘Adidas’ sneakers, the market offers you the global experience, minus the guilt-inducing price tags. - Bags, toys, perfumes, watches, and clothes for the whole family — including that one cousin who only shops in street markets but flexes like a Milan runway model. Trivia That Tingles Your Brain - The market came up in the late 1990s, riding the wave of cross-border trade from Nepal, Bhutan, and China. - It’s named "Hong Kong Market" not because of any direct tie to Hong Kong, but because "Import Market" didn’t quite have the same ring to it. - It’s a hotspot for tourists from Bhutan and the Northeast, who treat it like their own mini Dubai Shopping Festival — minus the camel rides. Real Talk If you want to test your negotiation skills, empty your pockets joyfully, and return home with 6 bags of "branded" joy for the price of one coffee at Starbucks, then my friend, this is your Disneyland. Just don’t come with a full wallet or a weak resolve. You’ll either return with a suitcase or a story. Or both. Mood: Bargain-hunting Beast Mode!
Rajdeep D — Google review
A typical market offering all the essentials—bags, shoes, clothes, accessories, and umbrellas—alongside some tourist-friendly items like souvenirs, magnets, and more. However, the variety is quite limited, with most shops selling similar products. Despite mentions of bargaining in several reviews, we found that prices were largely fixed, with little room for negotiation. Visited on a Saturday, the market was fairly crowded, and shops began closing around 7:30 PM. Additionally, there are several smaller markets around its various entrances, adding to the shopping experience.
Seema P — Google review
This market is mainly known for the chinese imports. But you can get almost everything here from clothes to shoes, from household items to decoratives, and many more. This is a big market where there are a lot of options to do. It offers a variety of items at potentially lower prices than other markets, but be ready for bargaining.
Ritesh K — Google review
If you are from Kolkata, Then Chandni market is far far better. I am Talking about electronics shopping. There is almost nothing electronic in hong kong market, forget the "Imported goods" thing. Sure you get a lot of varities in clothing. But hong kong market has only clothing and wearable accessories to provide. Or Either I didn't find the place I was supposed to.

I loved exploring Hong Kong Market in Siliguri it’s a lively street market with trendy clothes, bags, footwear and cute accessories. The prices are super affordable and bargaining makes it even more fun. The lanes are a bit crowded but that’s the charm of street shopping. I wouldn’t really recommend visiting in hot weather it’s better to go in the evening when it’s cooler. It's totally a must-visit for fashion lovers

A beautiful and enormous mosque complex built by Sikander Shah during the Bengal Sultanate rule around the 13th century AD. A beautiful and historic place in Malda. The Adina Masjid, built in the 14th century by Sultan Sikandar Shah, was once the largest mosque in the Indian subcontinent. Even though it’s now in ruins, the architecture is still stunning, with huge arches, stone pillars, and a big open courtyard. You can also see the Sultan’s tomb inside. The area is peaceful, surrounded by greenery, and well-maintained by ASI. A great spot for history lovers, photography, and anyone who enjoys exploring heritage sites. Best to visit in winter or late afternoon for pleasant weather.

Built around 1374 and believed to be biggest mosque of the times, the ruins are massive a sad reminder of transient times of human endeavors on the planet. Architecture might have been very grand with several structures around the spacious central courtyard gardens having domed mosque, congregation halls etc and nothing much remains now.The prayer hall having central stone arch with lively floral designs pointing towards mecca and the colorful pulpit is beautiful even now after centuries of elapsed time is a wonder left by unknown artists. There are some excellent brick or terracotta floral designs on the arches of inner walls here and there and unfortunately mobile is not allowed inside as of Sep 14th.

Sikandar Shah, the second sultan of the Ilyas dynasty, the Adina mosque is one of the largest mosques to be built in the subcontinent and the only hypostyle mosque in Bengal. Located twelve miles from the town of Malda and along a major road leading to north Bengal, the sultan probably built it as a visual proclamation of his victory over the Delhi ruler, Firuz Shah Tughluq. The mosque is mostly in ruins today following the damages sustained during the earthquakes in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Baro Sona Masjid, also known as Baroduari, is a historic mosque located in Gour, India. Built in 1526, it is the largest monument in the Gour region and is made of brick and stone. Situated near the India-Bangladesh border, this gigantic rectangular structure features eleven gates instead of twelve. Despite its name 'The Great Golden Mosque,' the gilded domes are no longer present.
Called Baraduari Mosque, literally translates to 12 doors mosque, built in the 15th century. Today, only ruins remain and yet they look so beautiful with its unique architecture. Very well maintained by the care takers. There is no entry fee and lot of parking space outside.
Shaik M — Google review
Baroduari or “Baro Duari” Mosque is a wonderful example of medieval Muslim architecture located in Gour, Malda. The name came about because the mosque was left incomplete; it has a total of 11 doors, although the plan was for 12. Hence it came to be called “Baroduari” or “Twelve-Door.” 🚪 History and Significance: It is believed that the mosque was started during the reign of Alauddin Hussain Shah (1493–1519) and was meant to be completed under Nusrat Shah (1519–1532). However, due to unknown reasons it remained incomplete, with its doors and structures unfinished. Nevertheless, it holds a special place in medieval Muslim architecture and heritage. 🏰 Architecture and Craftsmanship: The Baroduari Mosque is constructed of red brick and stone, reflecting a unique blend of Islamic and Bengali architectural styles. The walls are adorned with intricate carvings and designs, a testament to the skills of medieval artisans. Although some parts remain incomplete, its magnificence and appeal remain undiminished. 🌲 Environment and Sightseeing: The mosque is surrounded by dense trees and situated in a peaceful environment. Nearby, there are numerous historical sites of Gour, such as Dakhil Darwaza, Lotan Mosque, and Kadam Rasul Mosque. Many sights worth seeing are within walking distance from here. 🚉 How to reach: If you come by train, you can get down at Malda Town Station. From there, you can take a toto or an autorickshaw to Rathbari. After that, you can take another autorickshaw or toto to Gour. Once you reach Gour, you can easily walk to Baroduari. 📝 Tips: It’s better to visit in the morning or afternoon when the light is good and the surroundings are calm. Carry water and food with you, as there aren’t many food stalls nearby.

The Baradwari Mosque, also known as the Great Golden Mosque, is one of the most impressive historical monuments in Gour, Malda. Built in 1526 CE by Sultan Nasrat Shah, it is a stunning reminder of Bengal’s rich architectural heritage. The name Baradwari means “twelve doors,” though the mosque now has 11 openings. Its vast hall, domed corridors, and elegant arches show the grandeur of medieval Bengal. Though the original gilded domes have vanished, the charm of the mosque still captivates visitors. The surrounding greenery and peaceful environment make it a perfect spot for history lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking tranquility. The ASI-maintained area is clean, and the information boards provide helpful details in English, Hindi, and Bengali. A must-visit if you are exploring Gour or Malda, as it beautifully reflects the glory of Bengal’s Sultanate period.

Nestled on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, Hazarduari Palace stands as a testament to the grandeur of the Nawabs of Bengal. Constructed between 1829 and 1837 under Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah, the palace is an architectural marvel designed by Colonel Duncan MacLeod. Its name, meaning "Palace with a thousand doors," refers to the 1,000 doors, of which 900 are false, ingeniously designed to confuse intruders . The palace's neoclassical Italianate style is evident in its 52 Doric columns and grand staircase flanked by lion statues. Inside, visitors can explore 114 rooms, including the Durbar Hall, library, and portrait gallery, housing over 10,000 books and manuscripts . Notable artifacts include a Quran wrapped in gold and a chandelier that once held 1,001 candles . Adjacent to the palace are the Nizamat Imambara, Chawk Mosque, and the iconic Bacchawali Tope cannon . The palace is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, except Fridays, with an entry fee of INR 10 for Indian citizens and INR 100 for foreigners .

--- 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Majestic Marvel of Bengal's Regal Past – Hazarduari Palace, Murshidabad Nestled on the eastern banks of the Bhagirathi River, the Hazarduari Palace in Murshidabad stands as a timeless symbol of Bengal's rich history, Nawabi grandeur, and architectural brilliance. Translating to "The Palace of a Thousand Doors," Hazarduari is not just a monument – it’s a living legend etched in sandstone and lime mortar. Commissioned in 1829 by Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah and designed by Colonel Duncan MacLeod, this awe-inspiring three-storeyed palace is built in Greek (Doric) style, boasting 1000 doors – of which only 100 are real, and the rest are false – cleverly designed to confuse and trap intruders. This unique architectural quirk gives the palace an enigmatic charm and a sense of mystery. The palace houses the Hazarduari Museum, managed by the Archaeological Survey of India, which showcases an extraordinary collection of over 20,000 artefacts. Visitors can marvel at priceless Belgian chandeliers, rare manuscripts, antique furniture, swords, guns, and even the Nawabi throne. The mammoth chandelier in the Durbar Hall is said to be one of the second largest in the world, rivalled only by the one in Buckingham Palace! Surrounded by lush gardens and located within the Nizamat Fort Campus, Hazarduari is accompanied by historical landmarks like the Nizamat Imambara, Clock Tower, Madina Mosque, and Bacchawali Tope (cannon), all of which form a grand historical complex, perfect for those with a thirst for culture and heritage. The palace beautifully captures the Indo-European fusion of styles, a rare sight in Eastern India. Walking through the majestic corridors, echoing the footsteps of Nawabs and British officials, one can almost hear the whispers of the past. The sweeping staircases, adorned galleries, and richly decorated halls offer a glimpse into a bygone era of opulence, diplomacy, and colonial interaction. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or a curious traveler, Hazarduari Palace is a must-visit destination in West Bengal. It not only tells the tale of Bengal’s golden age but also ignites pride in India’s cultural legacy. With its captivating stories, royal collections, and architectural splendor, this palace is not just a monument – it is an experience of living history. ✅ Tip: Photography is restricted inside the museum, so be sure to absorb every detail with your eyes. Early mornings or late afternoons are ideal for beautiful outdoor shots! 📍 Location: Murshidabad, West Bengal 🕰️ Timings: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Closed on Fridays) 🎟️ Entry: Affordable and well-maintained by ASI ---

Katra Masjid, located in the northeastern side of Murshidabad, is a significant historical site and one of the oldest structures in the area. Built between 1723 and 1724 by Nawab Murshid Quli Khan, it served as a center for Islamic learning. This mosque also functions as the tomb of Nawab Murshid Quil Khan. The construction involved using remains from Hindu temples, which later led to regret from Nawab Murshid Quli Khan.
Recently I visit Katra Masjid. It is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I visited in Murshidabad. The massive structure, with its arches and tall minarets, still shows the grandeur of the Nawabi era even though parts are in ruins. Standing inside the courtyard felt like stepping back into history. It’s amazing to know that Nawab Murshid Quli Khan, the founder of Murshidabad, is buried right here at the entrance of the mosque. The place is calm, well-maintained, and perfect for history lovers and photographers alike. A must-visit heritage site if you’re exploring Murshidabad.

I honestly love exploring rural, historical places and structures and this was one of my best. It showcases Islamic architecture with its large domes, arches and intricate designs. I've been here quite many times and never really encountered crowds, only a few other people like us. The mosque is well maintained with its clean surroundings and a sense of pride in its heritage. So I would definitely tell you not to miss it. Though it lacks adequate tourist infrastructure so some people might not find it eye soothing. But give it a chance! It might catch your eye like it did with mine:)

I visited Katra Masjid in Murshidabad. The mosque looked stunning! There's no entry fee, and the people were well-behaved. I felt at peace exploring the historic site. The architecture was beautiful, and I appreciated the tranquility. My visit was memorable, and I'm glad I got to experience the rich history of the place.

Katra Masjid, located in Murshidabad, West Bengal, is a remarkable blend of architectural grandeur and historical significance. Constructed between 1723 and 1724 by Nawab Murshid Quli Khan, the mosque was designed as a caravanserai and a place of worship. The name 'Katra' refers to a market, indicating the bustling trade environment of the area at the time. The mosque stands on a 54-meter-high square plinth and is surrounded by double-storied domed cells, forming a cloister to the spacious courtyard. It was originally equipped with four towering minarets, two of which remain today. The structure's most striking feature is the tomb of Nawab Murshid Quli Khan, located beneath the entrance staircase, fulfilling his wish to be buried where the faithful's footsteps would pass over him as a mark of humility. Although the mosque is no longer used for prayers, its historical and architectural value remains significant. Maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, Katra Masjid offers visitors a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Bengal. It's an essential stop for history enthusiasts and those interested in Mughal architecture.

Amar Kutir is a historic cooperative society located near Shantiniketan in West Bengal, India. Established in 1927 by freedom fighter Sushen Mukherjee, it initially served as a refuge for activists during India's independence movement. Post-independence, it transformed into a hub for promoting traditional Bengali arts and crafts, aligning with Rabindranath Tagore's vision of rural reconstruction. Situated along the banks of the Kopai River, Amar Kutir is renowned for its handcrafted products, including leather goods, kantha-stitched saris, bamboo crafts, batik, shola, and lac items. The cooperative emphasizes empowering local artisans, particularly women, through skill development and sustainable livelihoods. In 1992, a craft development center was established under a Central government initiative, followed by a hand-block printing training center in 1993, further nurturing the legacy of craftsmanship in the region.

A beautiful and serene place that offers deep insight into the life and works of Rabindranath Tagore. The surrounding campus of Visva-Bharati adds to the charm. Highly recommended for a calm, reflective experience.

A beautiful museum to get to know about one of the biggest gems Bengal has produced. This museum made me dive into an unknown part of history that i wasn't aware of. Being a Bengali, I just knew till Rabindranath Tagore the poet and visionary, this tour of the museum with the hidden stories of his past, his family tree, and the artifacts from that era made me realise the depth of him being given that importance because he definitely deserved it wholeheartedly. A must visit for those who are true enthusiasts of history and culture.
Siddharth B — Google review
Visiting Rabindra Bhavana and the Uttarayan Complex in Shantiniketan doesn’t feel like being in a regular museum—it feels like stepping into the living memory of Rabindranath Tagore. Everywhere you go, there’s something that reflects his presence—not only his works, but also the spaces where he thought, created, and lived. Rabindra Bhavana itself is like a treasure chest. There are over 1,500 of his paintings, shelves full of letters, manuscripts, photographs, and even his old recordings and personal belongings. These little details make you feel closer to him, the man behind the global fame of “Kaviguru.” The exhibition space, “Vichitra,” adds more layers, each show highlighting a different side of his life—poet, painter, reformer, thinker. Even his old car is kept here, reminding visitors of a more personal side of his journey. A short walk away, the Uttarayan Complex feels almost like architecture in the form of poetry. These were the homes where Tagore spent much of his later life, each one with its own character. Udayan feels open and grand, made for gatherings and discussions. Shyamali, built with mud and concrete, has a simple yet experimental beauty. Konark, with verandas filled with sunlight, feels bright and celebratory. Punascha, meaning “again,” carries the sense of renewal and fresh beginnings. Udichi is the calmest of all, quiet and serene, where silence itself feels alive—you can still imagine Tagore sitting and writing as the gentle Santiniketan breeze flowed in. Together, these homes form what many call Tagore’s ashrams—small oases of creativity and peace. Walking through the red brick walls and wide verandas of these houses, I didn’t feel like a tourist but like a guest in Tagore’s world. Every corner here reflects his philosophy of blending tradition with innovation. Even the light feels different—it doesn’t just fall, it lingers, like a memory. Rabindra Bhavana and Uttarayan aren’t places to rush through. They’re places to absorb slowly, step by step, like reading through a poem. By the time I left, I felt that Tagore was still here—not a figure distant in history, but alive in the air, the trees, the walls, and the quiet rhythm of Shantiniketan itself.

Rabindra Bhavan in Santiniketan is a must-visit for those interested in the life and legacy of Rabindranath Tagore. The entry fee is ₹100 per person (₹10 for students), which grants access to a peaceful yet informative experience. The museum showcases Tagore's personal belongings, manuscripts, and memorabilia, offering a glimpse into his rich family history. There's also an art gallery, library, and auditorium that host various cultural events throughout the year. The museum is air-conditioned and provides free storage space for belongings, along with cold water for visitors. The lush greenery around the complex adds to the tranquil ambiance. However, photography is not allowed inside, and some areas could benefit from better maintenance to enhance the overall experience. Despite these minor setbacks, the place holds emotional significance and is a serene destination to learn about Tagore's life and work. Everyone should visit at least once to appreciate its historical value.

You can explore his manuscripts, letters, personal belongings, paintings, photographs, and other rare collections that showcase the depth and versatility of his genius. It was an amazing experience to visit the memorials and buildings once created by Rabindranath Tagore and his father Debendranath Tagore. From the place where Debendranath Tagore found peace (chatimtala) to the tree where Rabindranath Tagore started teaching kids under the clear blue sky, everything was so mesmerizing, we were absolutely taken back to those times. We visited the 5 massive palaces built by Rabindranath Tagore and various departments like Arts and Music. Although we were'nt allowed inside due to some restrictions, we clicked a lot of pictures and enjoyed our stay at Santiniketan. Looking forward to visit one more time.

Deul Park, located along the serene banks of the Ajoy River in Bonkati, Burdwan, is a delightful escape for nature lovers and families alike. This enchanting park is named after the historic Deul Temple established by Ichhai Ghosh, a notable medieval landlord. Recognized as a heritage site by the Archaeological Survey of India, it boasts stunning landscapes adorned with vibrant flowers and offers various attractions such as fun rides for children and boating on its small lake.
This is one of the best places I have ever been to near the Durgapur region, although it is considerably distant from the city. I went there on a bike from City Centre, and it took me around 50 minutes to reach (excluding a pit stop). The place is very nice and has a very soothing atmosphere; perfect for a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. But the main attraction of the place is the wildlife sanctuary housing deers and peacocks, both of which can be seen from the side of the fences. The deers are specially friendly, and will flock together expecting food from the visitors. You can even pet them if you want to, as long as you don't posture them. There are also cottages in the campus, good for staying the night, but there are not many amenities available. Overall, a good place to visit, but not really recommended for staying. 🌟 4.7/5

The park is well maintained. Lots of places to enjoy all day with family. Boating, Bumping Car and Toy train is very enjoyable. Children can play in the park. They get plenty of arrangements there to play with. Deer and peacock add some better feelings to this.

This park offers a simple experience, featuring two resort-style structures. However, during off-peak seasons, all amenities are closed, making the 20 rupee entry fee feel unnecessary. The ancient temple, or 'deul,' is located outside the park's boundaries and can be accessed without a ticket. It's a truly remarkable site, nestled within a dense forest. The journey to the park is equally scenic, with a smooth road lined by trees on both sides. While beautiful, I strongly advise against driving this route at night due to the lack of lighting and the dense forest, which significantly increases the risk of accidents."

Park was very beautiful and well maintained. They charged Rs.20 for adults. Picnic spot was there. This was my 3rd visit so I can say it’s better to visit in winter season. That time the park will become more beautiful. One small zoo was there. We will see some rabbits there. It’s the perfect place for one day outing. Parking spot is available. It’s better to travel by personal vehicles.

The Kalna Shiv Mandir is a renowned Hindu temple located in Kalna, known for its breathtaking architecture and historical significance. Built in 1809, the temple features 108 small marble temples arranged in two concentric circles. The centerpiece of the complex is the beautiful 108 Shiv Mandir, which is widely considered one of the most attractive and popular Shiva temples in the area.
Kalna’s 108 Shiv Mandir, also known as 108 Shiva Temples, is one of the most iconic architectural marvels of West Bengal. Built in 1809 by Maharaja Teja Chandra, the complex is famous for its unique circular and parallel temple formations, housing 108 black and white Shiva lingas. Surrounded by peaceful gardens and intricate terracotta artistry, the site offers a serene spiritual atmosphere and stands as a stunning example of Bengal’s temple architecture. It is one of the must-visit attractions in Kalna for both devotees and travelers.

A beautiful fragment of the rich religious culture of Bengal. The geometry of the arrangement of temples is magnificent. An outer circle of 74 temples surrounding an inner circle of 34 temples housing Shivling. Nature also added to the beauty of the place. Though more maintenance is required to keep the place clean, this doesn't lessen the beauty of this art.

Ambika Kalna or Kalna is an old town that  can be easily called the City of Temples. Amongst the many temples, the most famous is the 108 Shiva temple. An architectural marvel, it has a total of 108 small temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and it's laid out in two concentric circles. The outer circle has 74 temples and the inner one has 34 temples, total 108 temples housing a Shiva linga in black and white marble. Interestingly,  the lingas in the inner circle are all white which symbolises good deeds. The outer circle is divided equally in White and Black shiva lingas where black symbolizing our dark thoughts.

This is a great place to include in one's day tour to Kalna. There are 108 shiv temples arranged in a unique pattern. The temples are in 360 degree circles, and there two such circles. If someone loves history and architecture, this is one place to be considered for visiting. One has to keep shoes outside, but there are no specific place to keep them safe, like we get in usual temples.

Many days of continuous monotonous work pressure, no time for myself, no time to raise my head To get over the hangover, I went out this Sunday with the aim of visiting the 108 Shiva temples of Kalna. Along with this, I visited other temples, especially the temples of Rajbari. Today, I mainly posted about the Rajbari temple and 108 Shiva temples, the rest will be given in the next post. Nava Kailash Temple or 108 Shiva Temple is an attractive Shiva temple in Kalna, Burdwan district. It was built under the supervision of Maharaj Tejchandra Bahadur. An architectural wonder. This temple is built in the Gauriya architectural style, Bengal's own temple art style, i.e. the Chala art style. The temple structure consists of a combination of two concentric circles with a total of 108 small temples, each of which is dedicated to Shiva. It represents a string of beads and the walls of this temple also depict many scenes of hunting and scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata. There are seventy-four temples on the outside and thirty-four temples inside which are built according to mythological stories with auspicious thoughts. Each of these 108 temples has a Shivalinga. Each Shivalinga inside is white in color which is a symbol of Sadashiv, while half of the Shivalinga in the outer circle is black in color symbolizing Rudra and half of the Shivalinga is white in color which is one white Shivalinga and one black Shivalinga. This arrangement and decoration is like this. Pratapeshwar Temple Enter the Rajbari temple complex through the gate opposite to the 108 Shivalingas of Ambika Kalna and go a little further past the left arch and you will come across the terracotta-decorated Pratapeshwar temple. Some call it the temple of Jaleswar. Some say it is the Pyarikumari Math. This temple, with its parallel grooved dome-shaped peak and numerous small terracotta panels around the lower wall, is truly an uninhibited creation of the artist. The architect of this temple was Ramhari Mistri, the temple-builder of Sonamukhi in Bankura district. He also built the famous Panchchura temple of Sridharji in Sonamukhi. Pratapeshwar Temple was established in 1771 Shaka or 1849 AD by the wife of Prince Pratap Chandra, Pyarikumari Devi. There are also pictures of other temples of the Rajbari like Lalji Temple, Krishnachandraji Temple. The terracotta artwork on the temples depicts the daily life of the time and the description of the Sangam is also included there. This sculpture in Hindu architecture in India is evidence of the unsurpassed art that has existed in India for a long time. There are also descriptions of hunting or war. I had the opportunity to visit Kalna 108 Shiv Mandir in January 2025, and the experience has stayed with me ever since. Located in Ambika Kalna, West Bengal, this temple complex is not just a place of worship—it’s a masterpiece of symmetry, devotion, and timeless beauty. As I stepped into the premises, what immediately struck me was the perfect circular formation of the 108 small Shiva temples—an architectural marvel that left me in awe. The temples are built in two concentric circles, a design that’s both unique and spiritually symbolic. Seeing so many black & white stone Shiva lingas aligned so perfectly facing North within such serene surroundings created an almost meditative atmosphere. The temples, built with terracotta and lime mortar, showcase classic Nava Ratna and Atchala styles of Bengal architecture. Even in their simplicity, there's a grandeur that reflects centuries of devotion. The craftsmanship is intricate yet understated, and each shrine seems to tell its own silent story. January was an ideal time to visit—the cool winter breeze, clear blue sky, and fewer crowds made it a peaceful and contemplative experience. The temple grounds were clean and well-maintained, and the local people were warm and respectful. I took a slow walk around the circles, absorbing the symmetry and the stillness. There’s something truly spiritual about walking through 108 miniature temples, each dedicated to Lord Shiva—it felt like stepping into a sacred mandala. The central pathway, connecting the inner and outer circles, was especially striking when viewed from above or at an angle. What stood out to me most wasn’t just the physical beauty of the temple, but the calm energy the place radiated. It felt like time slowed down here—a reminder to pause, reflect, and reconnect. If you’re planning a trip to West Bengal and have an eye for heritage, architecture, or spirituality, Kalna 108 Shiv Mandir is an absolute must-visit. I highly recommend visiting during early morning or late afternoon for the best natural lighting and fewer crowds.

Banalata Resort is a laid-back retreat nestled in the midst of farmland, providing a range of amenities such as a restaurant, playground, and safari tours. While it was once the sole lodging option in Joypur, other accommodations have emerged nearby. The resort's restaurant offers diverse culinary experiences including Kadaknath Chicken Curry and Emu curry, with guests praising the flavorful Special Mutton Biriyani. Visitors appreciate the relaxed atmosphere that allows for unrestricted enjoyment with family and friends.
Highly recommendable. We booked a dormitory. The services were great. It is a type of small Mahenjodaro where they cultivate their own vegetables, have ponds of different fishes like Magur and Katla. Different animals like Australian Cow, Emu, Hens, Peahens, Turkey all have different firms within the same premises. It has a long food canteen where people not only residentials but also people from all across the town can come to have food and enjoy the anilities. Speaking about the food it was delicious, homely made taste and instantly served. For kids they have a park which includes swing, sea saw and payable trampoline. What attracted my attention was that they have recruited 1000 local woman especially house wife to take care about the room service, cooking and various other different tasks. Other than self business it also focused on employment of the town. Free Parking available.

The food here is excellent and definitely worth a visit! We enjoyed our lunch here before driving back to Kolkata. It's great that they have ample parking. Just be prepared for a bit of a chaotic, event-like atmosphere and some slow service—we had to wait about 30 minutes for our food

Nice resort + farm house for short stay in Joypur Jungle. Huge area with all vegetation, flowers, farm animals. Though the maintenance is good but bit more hygine would have been nice, especially in the restaurant areas. Overall experience was good. We did not stay here, came for lunch. Parking is available inside the property.

The location is on the highway & a landmark in itself. The best part was the feel of staying in a rural cooperative instead of a commercial establishment. Our urban mind finds it difficult to give away creature comforts, which were all well laid out, as the photographs bear testimony. They have a turkey, emu, fowl and karaknath chicken farm onsite, giving you access to farm fresh produce. The food is good if you stick to the Bengali cuisine.

Bandel Church is a very peaceful place for prayer. It opens at 8 AM. Here are a few important things to remember for your visit: • If you want to stay overnight, you need a special letter from the Parish. It's advisable to arrange your stay elsewhere if you don't have this. We stayed at Balaji Hotel not far from the church, it was quite best hotel in the area check my review for it too. • Bring your own candles and paper if you want to light a candle or write a prayer request. The church doesn't provide them. There are shops outside church which sells normal to massive candles if you want such tall candles (starts from 200₹), advisable not to spend a lot on candles. • There’s a shop inside the church campus if you want to buy some prayer candles, rosaries etc. to take away with you as a memory or momento, which is usually a bit expensive than if bought outside. It's a great spot to visit if you're looking for a family prayer retreat.

Bandel Church: It is a place of historical interest as it was first founded way back in 1599 , and is one of the oldest church in West Bengal. It also stands as a memorial to the Portuguese settlement in Bengal . For Christians, this is a place of worship and veneration. This first church was burnt down during the sacking of Hooghly by the Mughals in 1632. A newer church, constructed by Gomez de Soto (also spelt John Comes de Soto), was built over the ruin in 1660. The keystone of the older church can still be seen on the eastern gate of the monastery, bearing the date 1599. A steel made hollow clock tower consisting 4 clocks in 4 different faces were shipped to Chinsurah by the British in 1914 to memorialize Albert Edward alias King Edward VII, eldest son of Queen Victoria and Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. That's why it is also known as Edwardian Clock. Mass service is performed till 12:30 PM when no visitors are allowed inside the church. One can still enjoy the church complex, roof top and other areas. There’s a shop inside the church where one can buy souvenirs at reasonable rates. There's also a Ship's Mast of a Portuguese ship from 1655 which has been restored here in a separate enclosure. The church is open for all the days except on 25th December and on New Year's day. Entry fee Nil. Distance from Bandel junction 2 km. There are lots of restaurants available near the church. ****

I came here expecting a similar ancient architectural spectacle that you find at places like St. Paul's or St. John's Church in Kolkata, but I was disappointed. While the church is certainly old and holds great religious significance, it is not particularly pleasing to the eye from an architectural perspective.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – A Sacred and Historic Place of Peace and Blessings The Basilica of the Holy Rosary, Bandel — lovingly known as Bandel Church — is one of the most peaceful and spiritually uplifting places I have ever visited. The moment you step into the church premises, you feel a deep sense of calm, devotion, and divine presence. The church is beautifully maintained, very clean, and surrounded by a serene environment that inspires prayer and reflection. This historic basilica is not only an important religious site but also a symbol of faith and heritage. The architecture is stunning, with the main altar and old structures reflecting centuries of devotion. The place holds great spiritual value for people of all faiths who come seeking peace and blessings. The priests, staff, and volunteers maintain the surroundings with care and devotion. The entire campus, including the grotto, museum, and bell tower, is well organized and welcoming. Visiting this holy place fills the heart with gratitude and hope. I strongly recommend everyone to visit Bandel Church at least once. It is truly a place where faith meets history and peace touches the soul. A must-visit spiritual destination in West Bengal

Bandel Church, located in Hooghly district of West Bengal, is one of the oldest Christian churches in India, built by the Portuguese around 1599. Steeped in history, this Roman Catholic basilica is not only a religious site but also a symbol of Indo-Portuguese heritage. The church's architecture reflects a blend of European and Mughal styles, featuring tall columns, arched windows, and a serene courtyard. The peaceful atmosphere inside the church is truly calming. The statue of Mother Mary and the historic ship’s mast outside the church are major attractions for both devotees and tourists. Many people visit during the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary in November, when the church is beautifully decorated and spiritually vibrant. The surrounding area, including the Hooghly riverside, adds to the charm of the visit. It's a perfect destination for history lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking a quiet, spiritual retreat. Despite being centuries old, the church is well-maintained and continues to be an important pilgrimage site. Bandel Church is not just a place of worship—it’s a journey into Bengal’s colonial past and a symbol of faith and resilience.

Baba Taraknath Temple Tarakeswar

Mentioned on

Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Baba Taraknath Temple is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to the deity Shiva and serves as a significant pilgrimage site. The temple can be easily accessed by train from Howrah to Tarakeswar, with several options available throughout the day. However, visitors should be wary of individuals who may try to deceive them on their way to the temple.
Baba Taraknath Temple, located in Tarakeswar, West Bengal(~50 kms from Kolkata) is a revered Shiva temple known for its spiritual significance and serene ambiance. The temple is a hub for devotees seeking blessings of Lord Shiva, particularly on Mondays and during the holy month of Shravan, when the shrine sees a massive influx of pilgrims. The architecture of the temple is simple yet captivating, with its ancient design exuding an aura of timeless devotion. The sanctum sanctorum houses the revered Shiva Lingam, which is the focal point of worship. The atmosphere inside the temple is charged with devotion, with chants of "Har Har Mahadev" resonating throughout. The massive pond beside the temple is considered holy and is used by pilgrims to bathe in before offering jala abhishek to Lord Shiv. All devotees are allowed to get into the grabhagriha and offer jala abhishek to the Shiv Linga. The temple management should focus on maintaining cleanliness and ensuring discipline in the queues. The temple premises should be kept clean, to ensure optimal spiritual experience for devotees. Outside the temple, the bustling lanes with stalls selling flowers, incense, and other religious items enhance the cultural charm. While the area can get crowded, the vibrant energy is a testament to the temple's importance in the lives of its devotees. For those seeking spiritual solace, Baba Taraknath Temple is a must-visit destination. However, planning your visit during less crowded times can enhance the experience. The temple is not just a place of worship but a testament to WB's rich spiritual heritage.

A very tranquil place with waves of spirituality. The Mandir premises is overall clean. There is a large parking space near the mandir, just beside the Rajbari. The approach road to the temple is in good condition, but narrow. The charges are Rs 100/- per four wheeler. Lot of eateries are here around the temple. The only drawback is the unethical monetary demands of the Pandas and the priests and bullying by them. The local administration should look into the matter.

The Tarakeswar Temple in the Hooghly district of West Bengal is one of the major Shiv temples in India where one can still pour water over the Shivlinga directly by entering the sanctum/garba griha (as of September 2025). It is advisable to visit early in the morning in order to have a good darshan and pour water over the Shivlinga (say, around 7:30 am, which I did). Avoid the middlemen you meet on your way to the temple and offer puja directly inside the temple. Carry some extra clothes back from home in case you wish to take a dip in the adjoining pond (Dudh Pukur). Cleanliness can be improved. ওঁ নমঃ শিবায় । 🙏 ॐ नमः शिवाय । 🙏 Om Namo Shivay. 🙏

Given 4 Star instead of 5 because of "Pandas" who stand at railway station till temple and offer you puja. They will walk with you until you denied doing puja by Pandas and asked them that you will do puja by your own. And if you do puja by Pandas, you will definitely will be in trap as they will ask money from you after puja and you have to give whatever they will ask otherwise they will shout and create a scene at spot. So my advise (Frequently Visiter), don't listen to Pandas (Whatever they will tell to tra you), you just walk to temple, near temple you will get pradas, holy water and some flower to offer god but that and direct visit temple stand in queue and offer puja to God by yourself. Nowadays it's a business for Pandas to trap new pilgrim. Direction - Near to Railway station just 5 mins walk. Don't do auto or rickshaw they will charge 50/- for just 5mins walkable distance.

Visiting Tarakeswar Shiva Temple was a deeply spiritual and enriching experience. The temple has a unique charm with its traditional Bengal-style architecture and sacred atmosphere. Offering prayers to Lord Shiva here felt very special, especially knowing the temple’s centuries-old significance. The energy inside the sanctum is powerful yet peaceful, and watching the rituals being performed with such devotion was truly mesmerizing. The surrounding marketplace, filled with offerings and local delicacies, adds to the cultural vibrance of the visit. I also appreciated the devotion of the priests and the faith of the countless devotees who travel from near and far. The temple is well-organized for darshan, and the sense of serenity it brings makes it a must-visit for anyone seeking spiritual fulfillment. A visit to Tarakeswar isn’t just about worship—it’s an experience of heritage, devotion, and peace. 🌿🙏

1. Belur Math is a peaceful and spiritually uplifting place, perfect for quiet reflection. 2.
