Specialty Museums
The Douro Museum is a contemporary museum located at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Douro Valley. It showcases the wine culture and history of the region through its exhibits, with an emphasis on the production and transportation of wine via rabelos boats before railways were invented. The building has been tastefully refurbished and features video screens throughout to provide a comprehensive understanding of the local wine industry in both Portuguese and English languages. Admission is priced at 6.
This place it nothing to look at from the outside. But go in and check it out! The history of the Douro Valley is rich and the port industry is fascinating. But one of the best parts was seeing the back side of the museums. And the final gallery held an incredible show of a local artist that was so special!
Patricia J — Google review
Essential knowledge about the Douro region and vinyards. The working exhibits were well done and the last part of the museum before the shop where they show how exhibits are prepared for the museum is a great idea. It's probably a better museum when the exhibits are all working. I get that things have to updated from time to time, but then don't take the full admission price if visitors can only see half. From an accessibility point of view: it is quite dark inside and a lot of writing is light grey on wood grain (see pictures).
Kaya W — Google review
Highly recommend stopping at the Douro Museum if you’re in the area. It’s very informative and there’s a lot to learn about the region and its wine. The displays and exhibits are well done and clearly put together with care. The cherry on top is ending the visit with a glass of Port while overlooking the Douro River.
Hangry T — Google review
This is a really nice museum about the history of the region and the wine making tradition. The entry also included a glass of wine, which was a really nice detail. The only thing we would have liked that was not available was a guide or at least an audio guide.
Paola P — Google review
If you love Porto and Douro wines, this museum is a must-see. After your tour, you can enjoy a delicious glass of Porto in the charming café overlooking the Douro.
P F — Google review
Quite nice museum about history of wine in this region. It could more interactive, but a big plus is that they also show art of local artists.
Krzysztof K — Google review
Excellent museum, well worth a visit. Bring your headphones, download the app and tour at your leisure. Rooftop bar has great views.

Quinta da Pacheca

Hotel
Food & Drink
Quinta da Pacheca is an elegant hotel located on a prestigious wine estate in the Douro region. The hotel offers stunning river views and provides guests with the opportunity to indulge in wine tasting experiences. The restaurant, adorned in shades of green reminiscent of the surrounding vineyards, offers creative dishes crafted by Chef Carlos Pires.
Didn't stay at the hotel but tasting tour was great. Very personable guide with good information. Was allowed to go into vineyard and try a grape which was very yummy since they were 2 weeks to harvest and made our day. Not all were winners but got to try a wide variety of Wine/Port and they were mostly very good. Great atmosphere, location and value for the tasting. Would visit again.
Peter Z — Google review
We were recommended this place for a meal so we came for a drink the day before with plans to book for lunch the next day. There are so many vineyards around here offering top class tranquil restaurants. We sat and had a drink whilst right outside a big van parks and starts offloading bikes for an hour, a man is loading plastic crates and a fork lift is zooming around with the associated beeping every time it reverses. This has to be the worst place to place a nice restaurant. What's more it's right by the river but instead of a lovely view of the river we get big van and bike trailer, fork lift and lorry loading crates. Decided not to book for lunch next day.

Came here for a wedding. Lovely venue. Staff were very friendly and chill. Loved the 2 resident dogs and cats. Rooms: We stayed in the regular rooms(ie not barrels). Nice decor and good size but no kettle to boil water. We had several meals here and food was pretty good overall. The only downside is the main restaurant isn’t open all day. And only opens late at 7.30pm for dinner. As it is quite small, if you don’t make a reservation, you may not get a table. Breakfast also starts late at 8am and only lasts till 10am. You can get food from the bar otherwise but menu is very limited especially for gluten free diners. We booked a car to bring us from QDP to Porto airport and was quoted £150-200 at reception. On the day itself though, it cost us £220. No explanation for the increase in fee. And it was only transport for 2pax.

🍷🧀🦚🌄🤵 The barman at Quinta de Pacheca was incredibly accommodating. Even though we arrived fairly late and skipped the winery tour, he still welcomed us in for bar snacks and a bottle of wine that ended up being more than enough for dinner. We ordered the €33 charcuterie board and a €12 bottle of wine — both were delicious, and we could barely finish everything by the end. Definitely recommend this combo if you’re looking to enjoy a relaxed evening at a beautiful winery, especially out on the patio with peacocks roaming nearby and genuinely friendly service. Did you find this review helpful? ❤️

We had our wedding at Quinta da Pacheca and it was pure perfection. The location, views, architecture, and aesthetic are beautiful. Staff and service were exceptional. The wine, port, and food were delicious and so many of our guests said the same! Thank you Quinta da Pacheca for making our wedding so beautiful. We will be back very soon!
Francesca N — Google review
It is simply impossible to stay in this hotel. At first, everything seems perfectly respectable when you arrive at reception. The staff there are polite and sensible - you can tell they’ve been trained in guest greeting standards. They even give you a tour of the hotel, show you the main areas and escort you to your room. That’s where your pleasant experience comes to an end. If you’re unlucky, as we were, and end up in a room in the residential wing, the only tolerable place to be will be the bathroom. At least it has relatively new tiles on the floor and walls. Mind you, don’t expect any amenities befitting a supposed five-star hotel. In our bathroom there was only: hand soap, all-purpose shampoo, a disposable shower cap, a nail file. Apparently the hotel considers a basic hygiene kit (cotton buds, cotton pads, etc.) an unnecessary luxury. The toilet, when flushed, simply splashes water all over the floor - perhaps that’s their idea of hygiene. But that’s actually the best part of the room. The worst is the bedroom itself. The carpet is filthy, covered in stains and ingrained with the stench of vomit throughout. Every piece of furniture - including a completely empty and pointless chest of drawers - is chipped and battered from decades of use. There is absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing, in the room that even remotely suggests five stars. Not even a simple shoehorn. In fact, there’s nothing at all. No iron or ironing board, no umbrella, no hairdryer. Nothing you’d expect from a five-star hotel. Breakfast is a special kind of masochism. There’s a menu with various egg dishes, but the breakfast chef appears to have entered a kitchen for the very first time and has no concept of cooking for human beings. The vegetable omelette had no salt whatsoever. I’ll just show you a photo of the Eggs Benedict instead of trying to explain - it was literally half a bun, about 7-9 cm across, with an egg dumped on top and two halves of a slice of bacon. No sauce, no seasoning, no salt. Thankfully the natural saltiness of the bacon saved it slightly. They serve cheese sliced straight through the coloured protective rind. Avoid the coffee machine in the dining room - it dispenses brownish water with no flavour at all. If you ask for coffee in a pot, they bring you the cheapest, foulest instant coffee imaginable. The food at the pool bar is a true culinary masterpiece - if you measure excellence by the standards of a low-grade home kitchen using the poorest ingredients. The €18 toast looks like a slice of stale supermarket bread (and I’m probably insulting supermarkets here), topped with finely chopped tasteless tomato and a sprinkle of cheese. They heat the whole thing in an oven or microwave and serve it with crisps. The crisps are the best part of the dish. The quinoa salad contained ingredients not listed on the menu (mushrooms). Unfortunately the person who ordered it is allergic to mushrooms. Apparently the hotel is unaware of legal requirements to declare ingredients/allergens. If you fancy a cocktail masterclass, be prepared to assist the instructor with their English - you’ll have to supply the words they’re searching for to explain the process. It seems the hotel knows very little about the hospitality and restaurant business in general. What they do know is how to bus in thousands of tourists for wine tastings. So if you’re dreaming of a peaceful holiday rather than the ambience of a coach park, look elsewhere. All this for over €500 a night. More expensive than almost any hotel in the region - and utterly unworthy of the price.
Hen R — Google review
We had our wedding here and if I could give it 1,000 stars I would! Everything was truly exceptional. The staff are kind and accommodating. It’s clear they take pride in their job and want all of their guests to have a good time. The property is stunning. I have been in September for harvest and stomped grapes with a Portuguese band and in May for our wedding. Both times of year are beautiful. I love to travel and never have I found a place that I want to keep coming back to as much as Quinta da Pacheca! Very deserving of the Michelin guide recognition! I heard from many of our guests it was the best wedding they have ever been to. I feel lucky to have found such an amazing place and will be back for anniversaries to come 😊
Jessica O — Google review
I rarely post but really did love this hotel experience. The wine barrels are super unique rooms and, the ones with pool, are special - especially when it is scorching outside. The main pool facility also was fantastic and a great relaxed vibe. The wine tour was popular but wasn’t anything special versus other beautiful spots in the region. The only negative was service levels —- really slow. And I live in Spain so accustomed to slow. But in two meal services, from sit down to first course served- an hour. This needs to be addressed, especially when in comparison to your 5-star neighbor, Six Senses (albeit double the price there).

Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Ponte de São Gonçalo, a graceful bridge in Amarante, Portugal, was built in 1790 to replace the original 13th-century structure that was destroyed by flooding. Made of golden stone and adorned with Baroque spires, the bridge holds historical significance as the site of a heroic battle in 1809 against Napoleon's invading French army. It is often depicted alongside the monastery on postcards of Amarante.
There is a nice little parking area just under the main bridge into town. You can walk up onto it to get a great picture. We ate our lunch by the river. Very peaceful!

As with all the awesome, ancient churches in the various cities of the country, they are extraordinary sight, very well preserved and clean. The little cafe provides a quaint, relaxing break to soak in the cool atmosphere. Love the calm nature too.

Amarante city center and Ponte de São Gonçalo Bridge are a picturesque, quiet and charming city/bridge with views straight out of a storybook. We loved strolling down the quaint main street as a stop over for lunch, coffee and pasteries on our way to Porto from the Douro Valley. There were a variety of coffee shops and bakeries, some with scenic views. Don't forget to look for the "rocket ships" 🚀😆 Be mindful of cars on the bridge, use the side balconies for photo/selfie opportunities, to rest and people watch. For a perfect view of Ponte de São Gonçalo Bridge, take a moment to walk down to the shoreline. There is a small parking area near the church adjacent to the bridge. Amarante is a quaint city with a walkable city center and a worthwhile stop over if you're in the vicinity.

Sacred & Religious Sites
The Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios is a stunning church located at the top of Saint Stephen's hill in Lamego. Dating back to the 18th century, this historic chapel features a beautiful Baroque and Rococo facade, as well as an ornate altar. It has been an important pilgrimage site since before its construction, with origins dating back to a small chapel dedicated to Saint Stephen in the 16th century.
Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios is a beautiful and peaceful sanctuary located in Lamego, offering a serene atmosphere and stunning views. ⛪🌿 The baroque architecture and intricate details of the church are impressive, making it a wonderful place for those interested in history and architecture. The surrounding gardens and steps leading up to the sanctuary provide a scenic and calming setting. However, the sanctuary could benefit from better maintenance, as some areas feel a bit neglected. While the sanctuary itself is lovely, some visitors might find the climb up the steps a bit challenging, especially in the heat. However, the views at the top are worth the effort, and the peaceful environment makes it a great spot for reflection and relaxation. A must-visit for anyone traveling through the region, especially if you're interested in beautiful religious sites and scenic views! 🌄

Very beautiful and different. It's good to climb all the way up but if you are short on time and have a car then better drive all the way to the top and take the steps down and up again. This ways you can climb as much as you want.

Beautiful and calm place with impressive baroque architecture. Enough places to rest during the stairs walk, and at the top you are rewarded with stunning views over the city.
Filipe L — Google review
Amazing place .Church can be accessed by what seems like a million steps . Amazing to think that the erosion of the steps is via the millions of people who down through the ages climbed these same steps. Worth it to see the fine church on the top.

An amazing place. The walk down and up the stairs is as intense as you want it to be with each terrace a beautiful place to rest and reflect.
Lee C — Google review
The Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios church in Lamego, Portugal is a stunning example of Baroque architecture, with its elaborate decorations and impressive staircase. The grand staircase leading up to the shrine is one of its most iconic features, consisting of 686 steps symbolizing the spiritual ascent to the shrine. The shrine is dedicated to Our Lady of Salvation, who is said to have miraculous powers. The church has become a popular pilgrimage site, especially for those seeking healing. Situated on a hill, it offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including the town of Lamego and the Douro Valley. Many pilgrims visit the shrine during the annual Feast of Our Lady of Salvation, which takes place in September. The path leading up to the church is part of a religious journey symbolizing devotion and faith. The walls of the sanctuary are decorated with beautiful Portuguese azulejos (painted ceramic tiles), depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary. The use of these colorful tiles adds to the charm and cultural significance of the church. The Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios is not only a religious site but also an important part of Lamego’s cultural heritage. It attracts both pilgrims and tourists, creating a blend of spiritual and historical experiences. The highlight before entering is The chestnut tree at the Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios in Lamego, Portugal, holds a special place in the history and symbolism of the sanctuary. The chestnut tree near the sanctuary is closely linked to the tradition and history of the site. The chestnut tree has long been a part of rural Portuguese life and symbolizes strength, resilience and longevity. In the context of a sanctuary, trees are often seen as symbols of spiritual resilience and connection to the land. In many cultures, chestnut trees are seen as guardians of homes and sacred spaces. In the case of the Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, the tree is often seen as providing a sense of spiritual protection and blessing to pilgrims who visit the church, symbolizing divine support on their spiritual journey. 3. Cultural and spiritual connections: Chestnut trees in sanctuaries may be part of local folklore. Trees like these are often associated with community traditions and over generations, this particular tree may have been part of local religious festivals, processions and the spiritual life of the town. Pilgrims who visit the sanctuary often take a moment to reflect under the chestnut tree, finding shade and quiet after the long climb up the stairs to the church. The tree is a place for contemplation, rest and sometimes prayer, providing physical and spiritual comfort to those who visit. The chestnut tree brings a sense of serenity and balance to the environment, creating a contrast with the baroque architecture of the church. The tree’s deep roots in the ground symbolize both the natural world and spiritual life.

Amarante Water Park is a thrilling destination with high-speed rides, slides, and pools set against scenic hillside views. The Tamega River offers clear waters and natural beauty, perfect for water sports like kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding. The varying currents cater to both beginners and experienced adventurers. Visitors can enjoy different pools including an open-air large cold water jacuzzi and a variety of water slides for all ages.
So much fun. Some of the best slides I’ve ever been on. Park was well organised, and queues were minimal. Good mix of slides for thrill seekers as well as some family friendly ones. We bought a ticket online, then caught a bus from Porto, and walked from the bus station along an old railway for about 4km. Such a fun day trip.

Excellent destination to spend a day with children and family. Perhaps a bit of over crowded and regarding to slightly remote location visitors should be indicated better and earlier(not almost on the gate) of the possibility to be turned back in case they arrive without reservation. Luckily we had an online tickets booked and almost everything came up roses.😊
Pasi S — Google review
Lovely little place to visit with lots of rides, pools, facilities and friendly staff. However it's really not suitable for people with mobility issues. It's all on multiple large inclines (which is of course, the nature of the location). They do have a lift for one part of the park but other than that you have to make do. Most of the main rides are restricted by weight, so note that if you're about 160kg+, you're limited to the pools and small slides. The website does list all the rides and their weight capacities but this is only on the original/Portuguese website. The food and drink is really expensive for what it is. I recommend bringing snacks and drinks to the park! We went on a random weekday, and it was full to the brim of school children. Wait times were long, until about an hour before closing time. I waited for the last wave pool round, but they refused to do it due to it having less than 10 people in the pool. So I kind of just swam and got cold from waiting, until I asked them about it and took that as a sign to leave the park. Overall, lovely for the family but lacks accessibility.

Absolutely loved our day at the park. I would have given it a 5 but marked down as the traffic to get in and out was hectic. Plus the queues were extremely long. Having said that the rides were fun and there are plenty of cafes to get food and drink. Space is a bit tight, so we opted to hire sun loungers. Finally, the location is unique, right in the valley next to the river, stunning views, unlike any other water park I've been to. So, my advice, plan your day in advance, hire sun loungers, be prepared to queue but go. Great fun!

Lovely water park 45 minutes from Porto. Many different slides, pools, bars and fast food options. You can rent lockers, umbrellas and loungers.

We come here every year and we always manage to have a great time. Clean, friendly staff and amazing slides.
Ines R — Google review
Bought our tickets online few days before coming, saved a bit and didn't had to queue at the entrance. Early arrival is recommended to be able to get chairs and nice spot. Many people bring cool boxes with food for a day, but if you don't bring it, food prices are good, especially for a place like this. A bit of disappointment - long queues for the slides. Overall enjoyed our day out there.
K. T — Google review
What a disappointing experience. The park was packed far beyond what felt safe or comfortable. We had to wait for hours in the scorching heat just to get on a single slide. The pools were overcrowded and didn’t feel clean, and there was absolutely nowhere to sit and rest. Maybe it was the high season, but the fact that they don’t limit the number of visitors made the entire day miserable.

Passadiços do Paiva Trailhead (Areinho) offers a stunning 5.5-mile wooden walkway along the Paiva River, providing breathtaking views of the valley. The well-maintained 8km trail allows for side-by-side walking and leads to the Arouca 516m suspension bridge, although reservations are necessary due to limited availability. This picturesque route showcases untouched landscapes, crystal-clear river waters, and endangered European species.
Phenomenal views, even during rainy weather! The main drag of the trail - including the suspension bridges - is ticketed requiring purchase online. Well worth the experience. Can make a full day out of the hike and surrounding local cafes. Highly recommended.

This place is amazing, absolutely spectacular. There is a small restaurant next to the car park. You can find everything you need there. Excellent food and very helpful staff. The trail is steep, long and challenging. Especially if you're doing it in 30°C. Tho well worth it. The bridge has to be booked separately. Otherwise, the trail up to the bridge is free if you want to carry on, it costs 4euros per person. Well worth it tho.
Sheislikea W — Google review
Unique experience, but an absolute must do in the region of Arouca. Totally worth to spend some time in nature. Well signed trail, parking and information on how to buy tickets. The wooden path was 2€ per person, crossing the bridge an extra 12€, but totally worth it.
Afonso G — Google review
This trail was beautiful but absolutely terrifying, if you do not like heights, I do not recommend. The pathway is mostly stairs, hanging off the cliff, high above the river. Not an easy stroll along the river.
Cassandra W — Google review
A must visit place! Get yourself comfy shoes, a bottle of/for water (they have tap water on the top), a swimsuit to swim in the river after the hike, something for picknik and enjoy stunning Portuguese nature. Loved this place soo much!
Sandra Z — Google review
Nice view from any part of the trail. Bridge is very impressive 1 km uphill from the Trailhead. Easy way to start from opposite side, but no parking on that side. You can go 4 km and back 4 km. Or take taxi back to the Trailhead. Or pickup with second car if you have.
Arie O — Google review
Really nice plan. Better go before 8 or 9 am. You gave to buy you entrance 2€ on line before . Bring comfortable shoes, tennis shoes are enough. Amazing views. Very well maintained wooden paths. Bring bath suit. You can take a taxi or a 4x4 jeep for the same price 20€ to go back to the starting point, so you don’t have to go back 9 km again .
Sonia G — Google review
It’s a really nice trail. If you book the suspension bridge you have to be at the bridge at that time because it’s a guided tour. We thought it was a time slot so we couldn’t go on there anymore. There are some nice spots to go for a swim in the river. You might want to bring water shoes because there are some sharp stones. There is a restroom about halfway. You should go there in the morning when there is still some shade (we got there at around 8:30 am).

The Gaia Cable Car, located at the Jardim do Morro station, offers a breathtaking aerial view of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. The five-minute trip takes you 300 meters high, providing picturesque views of Porto's historical center, Gaia's wine cellars, the riverfront, Clerigos neighborhood, and the Douro River.
We took the cable car round-trip, and it was a fun experience. The views of the city from the base were fantastic and definitely the highlight of the ride. At the top, there isn’t much beyond the usual tourist attractions—restaurants and short boat trips—but the ride itself was well worth it (ten euros) for the scenery and the experience. A great way to take in the city from above and enjoy a unique perspective.

It’s cool but I think for 7 euros per person, it’s a little overpriced. I think things like these should be priced to keep maintenance up but then be a gift to the people of the city from getting from place to place in a beautiful and inspiring way

Caves Cálem is one of the most iconic places to deepen your knowledge about Port wine. Visitors can experience high-quality wines and gain a better understanding of why Port wine has such a special legacy. The interactive museum offers innovative 5D cinema sessions, providing an in-depth exploration of the Douro region and Port wine, from terroir to grape varieties and different styles.
A very enjoyable experience in Porto. We booked the visit through GetYourGuide, but you can also reserve directly at the location. The winery is in a great spot—right across from the Douro River and in a lovely, walkable area. The tour started on time with a small group, which made the experience more personal and comfortable. Our guide was very attentive, explaining the history of Cálem, the production process, and the different types of Port wine with clarity and friendliness. We visited the interactive museum, which is modern and well-designed, and finished with a tasting of three different wines, all excellent. The place is clean, pleasant, and well-organized. Definitely worth it if you’re in Porto and want to learn more about the region’s famous wine.

Really enjoyed our tour around here, very informative and friendly guide who made everything really interesting, was great to walk between the maturing port and see (and smell!) the history. Tasting itself was pretty good too - we went for the exclusive, so three types, all with generous measures! Well stocked shop at reasonable prices too
Jamie P — Google review
For context, the reason we chose this place was mainly due to the fact that of our 6 days in Portugal we only had 2 in Porto, and only 1.5 really in Porto considering that half a day was dedicated to Guimaraes.... Given these time constraints we found this place attractive as it was the only place in our research that gave you a winery tour along with a fado show at the end and both of those had good reviews. So we thought, well, why not, let's kill two birds with one stone and it turned out to be a brilliant decision! We booked them online and the overall winery tour >> wine tasting + fado experience takes about 1.5 hours. They begin with the tour (multiple languages available, we chose english) around 6.30 PM where our guide explained to us what distinguishes Port wine from other wines (both within Iberia and elsewhere) and why the soil and climate of the Douro valley make it ideal for Port wine cultivation. She also explained many minutiae about Portugese wine growing culture around Port wine and how it's more family business run and smaller scale than the industrial grade spanish wine growing culture. She threw around tidbits of cork also but honestly the best thing she told me was that there existed the notion of "Port and tonic" which is like "gin and tonic" but with Port wine instead and I can't believe I didn't know that from earlier research because boy it was delicious and "Port & tonic" IMO is the ONLY way to have Port wine... I dare you to change my mind....!! Anyway they took us through their winery, they showed all the barrels of different sizes and explain the significance of them... It's quite an exhaustive tour at the end of which your fado show is combined with the wine tasting experience... So for the wine tasting, they have us each a glass of the fine white and a 10 year aged tawny port red. You know how they say the best compliment that food can get is that the person eating just shuts up and eats it all up, I believe the finest compliment a wine tasting can get is if the taster ends up buying the wines they tasted and you can see now that those 2 bottles accompanied me in an 11 hour indirect flight to India, and now sit in my collection :) The Fado show was brilliant too, definitely the piece de resistance of the tour when paired with the wine tasting..... The performers were very talented and energetic and the atmosphere felt cosy enough for one to connect with the performers while admittedly not being a very small venue.... So if you want a fado where there is a very limited audience maybe this isn't the place for you.... We really enjoyed this experience though On the whole from the vibe of the place, to the staff, to the collection and killing 2 birds with one stone, I've no regrets and do recommend this place to folks who may want a similarly clubbed experience

Wonderful Tour With Great Insights We thoroughly enjoyed our visit — our guide was knowledgeable, welcoming, and made every stage of the tour genuinely engaging. Walking through the ageing port cellars was a real highlight, complete with the sights (and smells!) of history in the making. We opted for the exclusive tasting, which offered three varieties of port served in generous measures and felt well worth the upgrade. The on-site shop was also nicely stocked with reasonably priced options. All in all, a great experience that I’d definitely recommend!

Good winery experience. The guide was very informative and helpful. The wine tasting had one white port & red port, each with good notes and flavor, and came with crackers. The front row seat was amazing :) I had a nice view of the fado performance, and enjoyed it very much.

Sandeman is a historic winery housed in a 1797 building, offering guided tours of its port cellars and tastings. The cellar boasts an impressive collection of vintage ports dating back to the 19th century, including vintages from 1815, 1820, 1834, and 1847.
The wine tour was fantastic with a great guide who managed to answer all the questions. We went for the 5 wine tasting which was with a group size of 10 people and held in a private room which made it feel even more special. I have to agree with our host that for value for money and taste that the 20 year tawny wine was by far the best in all respects. A worthwhile tour with a lasting memory!

We did the tour! The tour guide was dressed up as the wine label logo, which was fun! Able to sample three varieties at the end of the tour - not our favorite but still enjoyed the experience.

Visited Sandeman’s Port Cellar in Gaia recently—and wow, what a treat! The cellar sits right on the riverfront, so it’s easy to find and sets a lovely scene. We opted for the three port tastings. Our guide walked us through where all the barrels, casks and vintage bottles as stored along with the story of the timeless “Don,” and Sandeman’s 200-year legacy. The group was small, which made it feel relaxed and personal. Highly recommended—just be sure to book ahead! Whether you go for the quick visit or the aged-tawny indulgence, it's a classy experience with a side of story and scenery.

This is an amazing tour of one of the premium brands of ports. Though it was originally an English business it is now owned by the same company that makes Mateus rosé. Our guide through the seller was very knowledgeable and personable. Her ability to explain the process of making port and other fortified wines was wonderful. The tour itself takes you through the aging barrels and into a screening room where a video is played of the process. The tour ended in the sales roomwhere a tasting of the white port and a Tory port was provided. There was been an opportunity to purchase some of these fantastic ports. A wonderful tour of a great port maker in the city that made port famous.

The port tour and tasting here was excellent. Our guide was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions in detail. The tasting consisted of five ports in a private room at the end of the tour which was a very nice touch. We’d highly recommend you try Sandeman’s for your port cellar and tasting tour!

The Sandeman 1790 tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Porto. It’s great value for money. The tour itself was really interesting and just the right length. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and the small group size made the whole experience feel more personal. The best part was the tasting at the end in the private 1790 room. It’s a beautiful space and gives the whole experience an extra touch that you wouldn’t get in the regular tasting room. Highly recommend choosing this version of the tour.

Taylors Port offers a fascinating journey through time, delving into the history of Porto wine, viticulture, the Douro region, and the remarkable story of Taylors. Visitors can explore the extensive cellars with an electronic audio-guide providing insights into the company's heritage and winemaking processes. The self-guided tour allows for flexibility in pacing and is ideal for those with limited time or seeking an overview of port production.
Had an awesome winery experience :) It’s a self-guided tour (you need headphones) which took around an hour to complete. Total historic tour of this winery and wine-making. After the tour, you will walk into an amazingly beautiful garden for tasting session. It was super scorching day, so i sat indoors by the window for tasting and it was perfect!! I had both cool atmosphere and the perfect garden view. I tried [extra dry white port][10year tawny][vintage port]. Ordered some olives and taylor’s natas (chocolate layer inside) for pairing with the drinks. All the staffs were kind, informative.and attentive. :)

This was a fantastic port cellar to visit! The tour itself is very informative and has a lot of historical artifacts, videos, and of course the barrels of port in the giant warehouse. The tour is all self guided at your pace, and gives a complete history of the company and also the port making process. The best part is of course the tasting at the end in Taylor’s beautiful garden. The ports we tried were all top notch (especially the 10 year) and the server was very knowledgeable about the styles. Most definitely worth a special visit if you’re in Porto.
David S — Google review
1) I liked the port wine. 2) If you visit, I think the tour including a tasting is a better deal than just the tasting, with tasting sets starting at 22 EUR. 3) Be aware that while the garden is nice, you won’t have much of a view of Porto. 4) Stay away from the bread basket — at 8 EUR for six tiny pieces of mediocre bread, I thought this was a real rip-off that left a bitter taste on the whole experience
Mary S — Google review
We enjoyed visiting this wine cellar and recommend this place to other visitors. The tour is informative and shares context on the wine making process and some history of the founders of this cellar. You get the chance to pass by some real big barrels which was cool. The highlight of the tour was the tasting. You taste the wines in the rooftop garden and if you go to the balcony, you will have a nice view of porto. There is a shop that you can purchase wines. The price was fair for the experience (~€25).
Reza N — Google review
We had such a great tour of the port, followed by a tasting that was absolutely delicious. Marri (forgive me if I’m spelling her name wrong!) was our waitress she was so sweet, spoke perfect English, and really took the time to help us pair our port with food. The pairings were spot-on and made the experience even better. The grounds are stunning, covered in grapevines everywhere you really feel like you’re in the heart of a winery. They also have a charming little shop where you can purchase their port and even their own house olive oil. Another bonus they’re open on Mondays, when many of the other ports in the area are closed. We actually stumbled upon this place, and I’m so glad we did!

Great wine tour and tasting! We walked up from the water's edge and that is an experience in its own right. Once at the top, the view over the city from Graham's restaurant terrace is incredible. We were lucky to find couple of places on their vintage tour. The tasting took place after the cellar tour I the vintage 1room.we had 3 port and cheese and Pastel de nata. I would recommend the tour but better to book in advance otherwise you may need to wait or don't find room. Our English speaking guide was very knowledgeable and articulate!

This is a small Port winery established since 1890s with a lovely adjourning Vinum restaurant overlooking the beautiful city. All the wine making and corking process is still being performed traditionally by hand. The port tasting was interesting as I tasted rich and sweet to nutty and smooth (my first time). The dinner was gastronomical (grilled sausages, crispy pork belly, wine pairing, etc.). 😋

Graham’s winery was amazing! The small museum is very interesting, and our guide was excellent, fluent in English and shared lots of fascinating details. The port wine tasting was great as well. Portions for the food pairings could be a bit bigger, but overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

We visited for a late-morning pre-booked English tour & tasting. We walked from Porto, which was all fine until we started to climb to Graham's - it was a challenging walk on the roads, with very teeny tiny shoulders! We arrived with only a few minutes to spare for our scheduled tour time. The exterior grounds and view are GORGEOUS - absolutely spectacular. If I had realized they were that nice I likely would have just had a drink on the terrace to soak it all in. However, the tour was mostly interesting; longer and more detailed than I had anticipated it being. I'm glad we did it, though I don't remember any of the information provided now. I think we had the misfortune of being in a tour group with some rather pretentious types; I felt a little bad for the tour guide (who was very friendly) as some of the guests seemed to be peppering her with some snooty-seeming (to me) questions. Maybe it was just a handful of bougie travellers, I don't know. The tour was followed by a tasting in a large, open room; we just did the basic tasting of 3 ports (I'm not a Port person, but the LBV was good) but I noticed others likely purchased one of the upgraded experiences with tasting items, etc. That part was mostly left on our own to taste, after the guide explained things, which I liked. We walked through the shop at the end, took another look around the beautiful landscaping and terrace, and hopped on an Uber back to our next destination!

The views are the best of any port winery in the city and the tasting rooms are very nice. I just wish I’d skipped the “premium” tasting (the “six grapes” blend was horrible) and cheese “pairing” (quite bad) in favor of the nicer tasting options.

Beautiful collection of Portuguese renascentist art. There are also temporary exhibits (in our case, Salvador Dali). Each museum (permanent and temporary) costs 4 eur per adult, but there are discounts for families.
Joana P — Google review
A beautiful museum with a lot of interesting ancient and more modern works. The works by grao Vasco are very unusual since he paints in 'flemish' style including the buildings and features of people. His depictions of facial expressions are very notable because the people who are upset actually look upset (rather than, say, merely miffed about Jesus dying). The staff really want to make sure you visit in one particular flow which I don't understand but it didn't hinder the experience. Take some extra time to see the temporary exposition of 'views' where many are of old Portugal.

Viseu Cathedral, dating back to the 12th century, is a captivating blend of architectural styles. Its 17th-century Mannerist facade and 16th-century columned interior create a mesmerizing sight. The cathedral features a remarkable vaulted Manueline ceiling with intricately carved ribs resembling knotted strands of rope.
Viseu Cathedral Type: Cathedral / national monument Time spent: 30-40 min Parking: available (large) Bike parking: not available Price: 2.5 EUR/free The church was built in the 12th century and is the most important historical monument in the town. It is currently a mix of architectural styles, especially from the Manueline, Renaissance, and Mannerist periods. Archaeological surveys have indicated that the site of Viseu Cathedral was occupied by an Early Christian basilica built during the times of Sueve domination (5th-6th centuries). The bishopric seat was re-established in the mid-12th century when the current cathedral building started being erected, but little remains from this early Romanesque building except for some architectural details. The church was greatly enlarged in the following centuries of the Middle Ages, assuming its present configuration as a three-aisled building with three Eastern chapels. Some Gothic chapels in the cloisters also date from this period.

Very good experience seeing and reading the history of the Cathedral and area as well as seeing the city from a different view. The majority of the information is in Portuguese, but just using Google translate live with a smartphone camera works perfectly to understand it.

It is located on the main square of the city, known as Rossio. The panel is one of the symbols of the city of Viseu. The panel was signed by the first generation of Portuguese modernist artists, artist Joaquim Lopez in 1931, and depicts scenes from the rural life of the region, the famous city fair and much more. It's just a pity that it is located behind the road and it's problematic to get close.

Wonderful gigantic Shopping Center in Viseu. Parking, Shops, Food Court....... everything TOP ⭐ Even a Ice Skating Area inside To recommend 👌🏼

Amazing shopping center ! However there’s only 1 toilet room (with approximately 10 toilets) for all the shopping center and it’s located on top of the center and sometimes when they clean it (which is ok) they close it (which is not okay)… if you have a young child and want to go to the toilet good luck getting up there in time. Needs more toilets.

The Castle of Santa Maria da Feira is a historic stone fortress dating back to the 9th century, featuring unique towers and sweeping views from its walls and battlements. Situated on a hilltop, it offers a glimpse into the city's iconic landmarks and biodiversity-rich areas like Quinta do Castelo and Mata das Guimbras. The castle is well-maintained with easy access and parking available. Visitors can explore the castle's interior, including its towers, while enjoying panoramic views.
Castelo de Santa Maria da Feira Type: castle, museum Price: 3 EUR Time spent: 40 min Located within: a chapel, a museum (underground floor of the castle) Parking: available, large Bike parking: not available WC: available Path for disabled: not available The city's name Feira refers to the market (feira) event that took place here (since the 12th century). After 1448 the castle was reconstructed and used as a palace. The chapel was built in the 17th century. Currently it is considered as one of the best castles in Portugal to be visited.

Visited the Castle of Santa Maria da Feira today and, although it was closed (as it is every Monday), the peaceful grounds offered a perfect opportunity for quiet photography. The castle’s impressive medieval architecture and well-preserved walls make it a striking landmark, even from the outside. Its dramatic towers and unique defensive features stand as a testament to centuries of Portuguese history, dating back to the 11th century. While I couldn’t explore the interior this time, the tranquil surroundings and panoramic views from the exterior are well worth a visit, especially if you enjoy capturing historic sites without the crowds. I recommend checking opening hours before your visit, as the castle is closed on Mondays and has specific hours on weekends. Looking forward to returning when it’s open to explore inside!

A truly amazing castle. With this castle dating back to the 10th century, it has incredible history. And for three euros per adult we felt it was a great value to visit.

Good views to have a quick walk around the castle first of all. most staff were a bit miserable unfriendly especially the man in the picture who wasn’t very understanding and we arrived half hour which wasn’t late before closing time and he was stubborn not letting us in for a short time so it waste of a journey as we travelled a long way
Thomas G — Google review
I paid 5€ for the Medieval fair and it would be needed 5€ more to enter the castle, so I didn't pay again for it. It is quite majestic and well kept, but I honestly think the ticket for the fair should include a short tour of the Castle.

The 'Viagem Medieval em Terras de Sta. Maria' is an annual medieval-themed event held in Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal. This festival is one of the largest historical reenactment festivals in Europe and takes place during the summer months. The city itself is known for its rich cultural heritage and hosts this fascinating festival that offers a unique experience for visitors.
Great experience to participate, everything is well organized and adjusted to give out the medieval spirit, there is no mess, everything is streamlined. The food and attractions are varied and exciting. There are parking spots at the premises that charge a small fee for the whole day. It can get very crowded so it is better to arrive early and if you are coming for one day, I'd go with a weekday and not weekend.

Cute little festival with lots to do. A bit hot through the day but much quieter and really gets busy at night. Worth dressing up for if you can and the fact that every cup is authentic and all the signage is really special

Viagem Medieval in Santa Maria da Feira is a fantastic experience for those who love history and medieval culture. The festival brings the past to life with impressive reenactments, costumes, food, and music. It’s a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the medieval atmosphere. However, the event tends to be very crowded, making it difficult to fully enjoy some of the activities. The long lines and large number of people can be overwhelming at times. It’s also important to note that this event takes place in the summer, and the heat can make it uncomfortable for some visitors. I think limiting the attendance or spreading the event across more days could make it more comfortable. Still, the event is beautiful and offers a lot of fun, especially for families.

Santa Maria da Feira is a historic city in Portugal known for its rich cultural heritage and festivals. One of the lesser-known but fascinating festivals in Santa Maria da Feira is the "Viagem Medieval em Terra de Santa Maria" or the "Medieval Journey in the Land of Santa Maria de Feira . The Viagem Medieval is a medieval-themed event that takes place annually in Santa Maria da Feira during the summer. It's one of the largest historical reenactment festivals in Europe. The city transforms into a medieval town, recreating the atmosphere, costumes, and lifestyle of the Middle Ages. Visitors to the festival are transported back in time to the medieval period, with streets and squares filled with knights, troubadours, artisans, and performers, all dressed in authentic medieval clothing. The festival aims to provide an immersive experience that gives participants a glimpse into the past. Throughout the city, elaborate scenarios are set up to recreate different aspects of medieval life, including markets, workshops, battles, and court scenes. Visitors can explore these scenarios, interact with characters, and witness various reenactments. The festival offers a wide range of entertainment and activities for visitors of all ages. There are jousting tournaments, medieval music and dance performances, storytelling sessions, theater plays, and more. Traditional crafts and skills are also showcased, allowing attendees to learn about medieval craftsmanship. Food is an essential part of the Viagem Medieval experience. Traditional medieval dishes and beverages are served at various stalls and eateries. It's a chance for visitors to indulge in authentic flavors from the past. The festival is not just about entertainment; it also has educational value. Schools often organize trips to the festival, giving students the opportunity to learn about history in an engaging and interactive way. The Viagem Medieval em Terra de Santa Maria is an enchanting and lesser-known festival that offers a unique blend of history, entertainment, and cultural immersion. It allows attendees to step into the shoes of medieval inhabitants and experience life as it was centuries ago

Specialty Museums
It was the second time I visited, and there was still a lot of new things to see since they always have a temporary exhibition. I would suggest everyone take the combined ticket for €13 to also visit the experience center, which includes their workshop. If you go with people who aren’t that much into cars, they have an entire floor dedicated to ancient art. Lastly, they have a souvenir shop with many unique pieces.
Nelson C — Google review
The exhibition is not made just by cars. They have other things like toys, paintings, and sculptures. For me, It's not really worth the travel if you're just going there, so pick a nice restaurant and look for other things you might wanna see. The road from Porto to Caramulo is very pretty.

Nice museum with interesting stuff to see. Top floor is a gallery. The main floor in the main building has an interesting display of ww2 cars, wagons and artillery, stamps, flags etc... In this floor you can also see old fashion toys displayed in a different room. The second building has old fashion cars from 1880 to 1940. The ticket will allow to you to visit another building displaying more ww2 vehicles. In here you also have a virtual reality experience.

My wife and I had a wonderful one day self guided kayak trip on the Mondego River with Rock and River. Matt is super friendly, helpful and professional, and we thoroughly enjoyed chatting with him. The kayaks are quality and comfortable, the surroundings peaceful and beautiful, and the river was delightfully refreshing for swims. This trip is a must for anyone who has an appreciation for the great outdoors, and we can't wait to return for an overnight trip in the future.

I had a great day out in a kayak from Rock and River in July 2021. A group of us did the one day trip which is 13 miles of the Mondego river. Matt was really friendly and enthusiastic, and told us everything we needed to know about both the boats and our journey. He checked we were all comfortable in our kayaks before seeing us off on a self-guided tour, and was there to meet us at the other end. It was a wonderful experience in a beautiful setting and I can recommend Rock and River to anyone!

Aveiro station

Architectural Buildings
Aveiro Station, also known as Estacao Ferroviaria de Aveiro, is a modern central train station located near the city center. It operates daily with various timetables for Alfa Pendular, Intercity, Regional, Suburban, and Vouga Regional trains. The new design of the station stands in contrast to the old azulejo-decorated building nearby. There are plans to convert the classic structure into a museum or regional information office.
The original station was opened in 1864 with the inauguration of the Linha do Norte (North Line). In 1916, the building underwent a major renovation, during which 59 azulejo panels were added to the façade. The tiles were designed by Licínio Pinto and Francisco Pereira and produced by the Fábrica da Fonte Nova. The tile panels follow a dual theme: those on the platform side introduce travel destinations, while those facing the city depict scenes of everyday life in Aveiro. Due to growing rail demand in the late 20th century, a new contemporary station building was added, while the old station has been preserved for its cultural and historical significance. Today, the station is served by Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, Regionais, and Porto Urban Trains, making it a key hub in Portugal’s rail network.
Seokjin H — Google review
Current station is new and so so, but there's a smaller building nearby painted with beautiful azulejo tiles depicting scenes from Aveiro, including the boats and the salt.

The station is quite far from the city center. I walked from University of Aveiro to the station around 45 minutes. I did not see much sign to go to the station. I opened google maps to make sure that I am in a correct direction. The station is quite big and clean. You can find information from the worker. The schedule is easy to find for your trip. They provide hand sanitizer for the customers. Do not for get to wear your mask before entering the station.

Aveiro, often called the “Venice of Portugal,” truly lives up to its name. One of the best ways to enjoy the town is through a moliceiro boat ride — colorful, calm, and full of charm. The tour takes about 45 minutes, gliding through canals with a multilingual guide sharing local history and architecture. The boats themselves are artistic and photogenic, and the ride is smooth and family-friendly. Highly recommended for those wanting a unique and relaxing view of the town.

The Aveiro Lagoon (Ria de Aveiro) is an exceptionally unique natural feature that fundamentally defines the city of Aveiro, earning it the moniker "the Venice of Portugal." Its most distinctive characteristic is its complex network of interconnected canals, lagoons, and islands formed by the confluence of river deltas and the sea. This intricate aquatic landscape is home to a rich ecosystem and provides the picturesque setting for the city. Unique to the lagoon are the colourful moliceiros, traditional wooden boats with distinctive painted prows. These highly decorated boats, once used to harvest moliço (seaweed for fertiliser), now primarily offer scenic tours, providing an iconic visual associated only with Aveiro. The lagoon's constant interaction with the Atlantic Ocean, its role in the region's salt production, and its rich biodiversity, including various bird species, all contribute to making the Ria de Aveiro a singular and vital natural and cultural landscape.

I don’t get it how this place has 4,6 stars. It’s probably the worst “museum” I’ve ever been to, in any sense. It’s not actually even a museum but just a collection of stuff this super rich Portuguese guy bought (if he really bought all of that), many random things like photos of Gandhi, African art and Portuguese azulejos, all just put there without any sense. Additionally to the ethically highly problematic questions on why he owns all that, for example 1500 years old African urns which definitely belong in a proper archaeological museum, the things are just put somewhere without any explanation. There are no plates or tags explaining the objects or even just saying what they are, they don’t even have numbers, and they are all just “from Africa”, no context information at all about from which country and which time period. But the actually worst thing was the guide. Talking and behaving like you would imagine a trump-propagandist, he was all the time praising his lord Joao Berardo for how great he was in putting this stuff together and that their wine was the best in Portugal and that all the other wine companies were just crap. Especially, presenting to us the objects in the most superficial way that I ever witnessed from a museum guide (even when answering to questions). Like we were 5 year old kids. So: ethically very problematic, absolutely no musealization concept and presented in a really disgusting way. The wine was ok.

A great spot to see some cool artifacts from around the world, and taste some great snacks and sparkling wines after the tour finishes. Goncalo Costa was an excellent tour guide, he spoke fluent English and cares about history and sharing it with others. If life allows the opportunity, would love to visit again!

Bussaco Palace Hotel

Mentioned on

Hotel
Palace Hotel Bussaco is a lavish former palace with stately rooms and suites, featuring a banquet hall and a bar with a fireplace. It offers an exceptional staff and service, along with thematic decor that reflects its rich history. The hotel's location in the Bussaco National Forest provides guests with the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature, offering stunning views and peaceful hiking trails. While some guests found the food slightly expensive, they praised the attentive staff and romantic atmosphere.
Stopped here for lunch on a drive through Portugal and wow! This place is beautiful, so many incredible facades across this building. The surrounding forest is also incredible and the food was fantastic at the restaurant. Can't fault it. The scale of the place was appreciated until we had arrived either.

The hotel is very impressive from outside and the location is amazing. But it's not a 5 star hotel, maybe 3 stars The furniture in the rooms is very old, the rooms are small and no air conditioner and no mini bar. Restorarant is very good and food is delicious.

Probably the most beautiful hotel you will ever stay in. Make sure to get early enough so you can dedicate 30 min or more to walk around the palace and gardens. Also be prepared to eat in the hotel's restaurant, (there is no immediate other choice) , which is actully good, but expensive. (60 €pp with 3 courses plus a glass of wine). Our only complaint is that the bed, though comfortable, was not big enough. But the experience as a whole is great.

Have to pay €7 just to get onto the grounds. No doubt it is beautiful. They wouldn't let us in to get something to eat at the restaurant because there was a wedding scheduled. Why do they not tell you before you spent €7 getting on to the grounds? The gardens are not nearly as magnificent as they look in the pictures. There is a lot of dead shrubs. We are all very disappointed in this excursion.

Our visit to the forest and hotel were absolutely wonderful. The property and architecture are spectacular. The main restaurant, however, was a little lacking in service. The empregada de mesa didn’t seem to remember who ordered what, and didn’t stop by to check on us mid-meal (which would have been great as we were out of drink!). I only mention this to help set restaurant expectations. Otherwise, it was 5-stars across the board.

The hotel is beautiful situated in a national forest with many trails to hike. I felt that the room was a good price but dining was expensive. The rooms do not have wifi, it's only available in the bar and lobby. The TV in the room is a Smart TV but there's no wifi so no apps. Your choices if you want to watch TV is one of the 9 Portuguese channels. There is no music playing in the bar/ lounge which would have been nice. The hotel furnishings are lovely and represent the period of when the palace was built.

a wonderful fairytale place where they have preserved the historical appearance. wonderful staff, good restaurant, nice old barman and a wonderful atmosphere. we had great luck to visit the royal wine cellar. thank you very much, we will definitely come back

A very unique experience. We loved our stay. Is it a luxury hotel? No, it’s not. But the price is also much more affordable than if it was a true 5-star. The atmosphere is unforgettable. We loved the architecture, the decor, the people and the gardens around. We didn’t have dinner, but enjoyed a bottle of 2001 Bucaco white at the bar. The breakfast was absolutely great. We hope to come back.

Buçaco National Forest is a 105-hectare old, walled arboretum with over 250 tree and shrub species. Situated near Palacio do Bucaco, the forest features chapels, fountains, ponds, and exotic trees. Well-marked trails lead to attractions like Vale dos Fetos (Valley of the Ferns) and Fonte Fria. The Via Sacra trail passes by chapels on its way to Cruz Alta, offering stunning views.
This was a magical spot on our whirlwind through Portugal. The hiking is so lush and fern filled, the camellia trees were incredible. We spent 3 hours here, but could have spent 8. Absolutely beautiful walking paths. I was shocked by the California Redwoods, not where I expected to see them!

Fantastic place! Reminds me a fairytale, full of hidden paths, moss covered trees and Bible stories. Also there are huge eucalyptus trees there, 160 years old araucaria and even sequoias. It was a pity though that we were not all of to see the hotel lobby - it has magnificent interior

A beautiful palace with a garden and surrounding forest, just like something from a fairy tale. A perfect place to walk around and peacefully admire nature.

It feels like you are back in the time of colonoscopy. Like you, somewhere in Bolivia, and those haciendas for the trade of narco barons. Honestly, time stopped there. Talking about the hotel. The forest is impressive and a long walk.
Sheislikea W — Google review
It is one of the most beautiful forests in Portugal. Located in the heart of the Bairrada region.
MrFerreira68 — Google review
Lots of trails to hike and the forest is nice and cool on a hot day

Fantastic hike, we parked outside the park then hiked in. You can also park inside and make a shorter walk. Path’s were clear and very wide.
Nic M — Google review
One of the most scenic and reinvigorating areas in central Portugal. Gorgeous forest, with a few patches of native species. It’s like entering a magic land, with fresh clean air and a lush green canopy. We spent one day with small children and it was way too little. I’ll certainly come back to explore and hike, and potentially spend some volunteering working hours at one of their many environmental actions.

Can't fault this place. Joaquim is an amazing instructor who loves his animals so much. The horses are so well behaved and really boost your confidence. Would go back in a heart beat.

Have ridden with previous owner who was amazing but he has sadly retired We booked 4 rides and jumping lesson in advance for our holiday with the new owner as we boarded the plane from the Uk we received a message saying sorry to ruin your riding holiday but we have a bigger group . So I would not trust them there are many fantastic trainers and hacks out in this area. Our hotel found us a perfect place near by .

Joaquim and his son Antonio run a very professional and top quality riding centre. The atmosphere is friendly and supportive and the horses are an absolute joy to ride, very well trained and much loved and cared for by all the team. I have just spent 5 day at this centre riding 4 different horses, taking lessons with Joaquim and riding on scenic tracks by the banks of the river with the amazing scent of eucalyptus. Joaquim is an amazing instructor and is totally committed to ensuring his clients receive a top quality service. I highly recommend this centre, you will not regret it . I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you to Joaquim, Antonio and all the team.

It features traditional stone houses that have been recently restored, offering visitors a unique experience in the midst of an Eco Park. The park includes sensory stations with Braille panels, providing an enriching experience, especially for the visually impaired. The spacious parking area and picnic spots make it convenient for visitors to relax and enjoy the picturesque surroundings.
A magical place surrounded by trees and birds singing. The kids loved it. I wanted to stay there and live in one of those beautiful stone houses. An afternoon well spent!

Beautiful place, as the village and all the surroundings. The park itself seems to have been absolutely amazing not so long ago, but it already need a bit of an upgrade.
Gisela C — Google review
Small stone village, with multiple picnic tables, and a small thematic/sensory trail under the trees. Very pleasant! Worth the small drive and stop! You can take your time and have a few peaceful walks around, stay in b&b, eat at the restaurant or simply come by for quick walk and picnic.
Wilson M — Google review
Fun park. Quiet and unique.
Cher S — Google review
Very nice village for a stroll. Off season during the week there is no cafe open. The sensory walk is a great idea but in need of maintenance. In wet weather this walkway is actually a hazard.
Mauro H — Google review
Was a lovely place to visit. The parking is big so there's enough space for everyone. There is a picnic area to sit and eat your snacks. The garden is big enough for a nice walk through multiple areas. The village is cute and all made of stonewalls. There are a nice variety of small cafes.

Freeport Fashion Outlet

Shopping mall
Shopping
Located just a 45-minute drive from Lisbon, Freeport Fashion Outlet is a sizable outlet center offering a wide range of upscale boutiques, shoe stores, and gift shops. With over 100 renowned brands like Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, and Carolina Herrera, shoppers can enjoy discounts of up to 70%. The outlet also provides convenient amenities such as shuttle services to and from Lisbon, a kids' area, and various dining options.
Now that was an amazing shopping experience. An open-air outlet is so much better than an indoor mall — you get a completely different vibe.
Emran S — Google review
It’s a nice and pleasant drive, but I found the prices quite similar to the ones in Norway. Took my son about 20 minutes to get an ice scream scoop with only a table seated. Hard to understand Had problems with the tax free as not all workers are informed about the rules between Norway and European Union.
Tiago C — Google review
Nice complex, with easy access and ample parking. Many shops but not all have the same quality products as the normal shops on town. More outlet shops… prices are competitive if you look for deals. All in all not bad
Guy H — Google review
Open-air outlet with a nice layout. I was expecting more summer clearance deals, but most stores were already preparing for the winter season. Still, it’s a pleasant spot to walk around, with a good mix of popular brands.
TTT — Google review
Such a hidden gem just outside of Lisbon! I spent two full days shopping here because it’s full of designer stores at really affordable prices that you wouldn’t get anywhere else. There are also clean bathrooms and places to eat so you can spend a lot of time.
Kirsee A — Google review
I like this kind mall, you can enjoy outside and inside shops, maybe not all shops in my budget, but some of in very good price quality balance :)
Denis W — Google review
Nice outdoor shopping center. Lots of stores from famous international brands, plus numerous local shops that we not familiar with. We went on a Monday and it was not at all crowded. In fact it was quiet and pleasent to walk around.
Todd S — Google review
We were lucky it was a beautiful November day when we went to Freeport. I was a bit afraid as it rained the days prior and there are no covered passages in this place. To go from shop to shop, if it's raining, you will get wet. If it's hot, you will melt. But there are a lot of great shops with good, end of collection/season deals. It's worth a visit.
