1008 Shiva & Rajarajeshwari Temple Salem

Mentioned on

Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
The 1008 Shiva Temple in Salem is a Hindu temple complex dedicated to Shiva, featuring an array of 1008 identical Nandi statues carved from stone. The main highway runs close by, but the temple can only be reached at the top of the hill. In addition to the impressive lingas and nandis, there are also other allied group temples such as Perumal Temple.
Nestled in the serene surroundings of Ariyanoor, near Salem, the 1008 Lingam Temple offers an ideal escape for those seeking peace, silence, and spiritual rejuvenation. Surrounded by lush greenery and well-maintained natural beauty, this sacred site invites visitors into a tranquil journey of devotion and inner calm. The walk to the top of the mountain is both refreshing and reflective, with every curve of the pathway lined with Shiv Lingas and Nandi statues. Along the way, you’ll encounter various deities that enrich the spiritual atmosphere — from Lord Ganesha welcoming you at the entrance, to temples dedicated to Lord Rama, Jai Hanuman, Lord Shiva with Subramanyam, and the powerful Shakthi Devi. The entire trail is embraced by green plants and tall trees, adding to the sense of serenity. At the summit, a majestic 17-meter statue of Sri Umayambigai Sametha Sri Arunachala Sundareswara overlooks the hills, offering not just panoramic views but a deeply calming presence. The peaceful ambiance and sacred energy make this temple a perfect destination for those wishing to disconnect from the chaos and reconnect with their inner self.
Pranurish Z — Google review
About the temple It’s a relatively modern temple (built around 2010) under the care of the Vinayaka Mission. It has 1008 Shiva lingams arranged such that 1007 surround a central lingam, with a statue of Nandi in front. On the hilltop, the main shrine houses Sri Umaiyambigai Samedha Sri Arunachala Sundareswara. The temple is located on Salem’s bypass road, in Ariyanoor, about 14 km from Salem city centre. Timings There is some variation in reported timings. Here are the credible ones: According to Salem district’s official temple list: 7:30 am to 12:30 pm, and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tamil Nadu Tourism brochure also lists the same timings: 7:30 am–12:30 pm & 4:00 pm–8:00 pm Some sources say it opens from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm (for general viewing) One devotional blog suggests 5:00 am to 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm From TripAdvisor Q&A: for main deity pooja, best between 9:00 am–11:00 am and 5:00 pm–8:00 pm Given these, the official timings (7:30 am–12:30 pm, 4:00 pm–8:00 pm) seem most reliable. Best time to visit Morning (soon after opening) is ideal: cooler, quieter, less crowded. Evening is also pleasant, especially during dusk, when the light and surroundings are serene. The winter months (November to February) are often recommended as the best time to visit (milder weather) Avoid midday in hot months, as heat and direct sun may make the walk up less comfortable

A Serene and Divine Discovery in Salem !! I truly regret having missed this divine place during my previous travels through Salem. This is a serene and peaceful location, nestled amidst nature and adorned with numerous Shiva Lingas, offering a truly calming and spiritually enriching experience. The temple provides convenient car parking with two options. You can either park at the bottom and enjoy a peaceful walk up the small hill, or take the Vinayaka Missions entrance to drive directly to the top. I highly recommend starting from the bottom, parking your vehicle, and beginning your ascent from the Vinayagar shrine. This place is a beautiful confluence of faiths, featuring shrines for all in one location. The atmosphere is incredibly calm and divine, filling you with a sense of tranquility and good vibes. When you're traveling through Salem, I urge you to take the time to visit this spot. You will be pleasantly surprised by the breathtaking views and the powerful, positive energy of the place.
Balaji M — Google review
A serene spiritual experience perched on a hill, this temple features an enchanting walkway lined with 1008 Shiva lingams and Nandi statues. The complex is clean, well-maintained, and offers beautiful views of the surrounding greenery. The ascent is pleasant whether you walk or drive, and the inner sanctum has a powerful aura. Some visitors note minor upkeep issues, but overall it’s a must-visit for those seeking peace and devotion.
Shivani P — Google review
Peaceful, unique, and beautifully laid out. Walking the pathway past row after row of Shiva lingams with a majestic central sanctum feels meditative—even on a busy day. The campus is clean, signage is clear, and darshan usually moves smoothly. Families and seniors will appreciate the benches and shaded stretches; kids get excited spotting the numbered lingams. What I liked: calm priests, tidy prakarams, and the satisfying “parikrama” loop where you can complete a quiet round of prayer without jostle. Plenty of photo-worthy angles in the open courtyard (avoid the sanctum for photos). Good to know: mornings and late evenings are cooler; afternoons can be hot in the open areas—carry water. Parking is straightforward near the entrance. Dress modestly, and keep small change/UPI handy for archana/prasadam. Tip: do one slow clockwise round touching each pillar/lingam cluster with your right hand—it turns the visit into a mindful walk. Secret tip: after the main darshan, stand a few minutes at the far end of the courtyard and look back toward the central shrine—the symmetry of the 1008 lingams lining up to the sanctum is the most serene frame of the temple. 🙏
Dinesh P — Google review
1008 Lingam Temple near Salem is a must-visit when traveling from Chennai to Coimbatore or Ooty. It’s a really big temple — walking inside itself takes more than 30 minutes. The unique part is that it’s a drive-in temple, you can take your vehicle inside and go around for darshan. Very peaceful, clean, and well maintained with a beautiful hill view.”
Devaprasad S — Google review
1008 Shiva Linga & Rajarajeshwari temple is a deeply spiritual and serene temple located on a tranquil hillside in Ariyanur near Salem Tamilnadu. The main attraction is the truly unique collection of 1008 Shiva lingams. Each lingam is accompanied by its own Nandi, creating a visually stunning spectacle. The location is also accessible via public transport from Salem's New Bus Stand it takes around 20 minutes to reach on a very reasonable fare of just 11 INR one way.

Aagaya Gangai water falls

Mentioned on
1 list
Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Nestled in the stunning Kolli Hills, Aagaya Gangai Waterfalls is a breathtaking destination that promises an unforgettable adventure. This natural wonder features crystal-clear waters cascading over lush green rocks, creating a serene and enchanting atmosphere. The journey to the falls involves descending approximately 1,032 steps, which can be quite challenging but ultimately rewarding as you are greeted by the mesmerizing views and refreshing mist of the waterfall.
The water fall is very beautiful and high. There are 1200 steps one side to reach the base of the waterfall which is steep and tiring, but it’s worth it. Must visit spot when you are planning to track the amazing 70 hairpins of the Kolli hills.
Faiz A — Google review
Not a falls person but this made me one. It was majestic, spectacular and huge. We had to climb down steep steps of 1100 steps to get down there. Getting up again might be difficult. But it's worth the trip. Literally the best falls in Tamil Nadu imo.
Manoah J — Google review
Best waterfall in kolli hills but has 1000+ steepy stairs, requires multiple rest stops according to one's fitness level.

Aagaya Gangai Waterfalls – A Breathtaking Adventure Worth Every Effort!!! Visiting “Aagaya Gangai Waterfalls” in the “Kolli Hills” was an unforgettable experience—a perfect mix of natural beauty and an adventurous trek! The waterfall itself is absolutely mesmerising, with crystal-clear water cascading down lush green rocks, creating a serene and almost magical atmosphere. The sound of the falls, the cool mist in the air, and the surrounding dense forest make it feel like a hidden paradise. However, reaching the falls is “not for the faint-hearted!” The descent involves “around 1,200 steep steps”, and while the views along the way are stunning, the climb down (and especially back up) is quite challenging. The steps can be slippery, so wearing “good trekking shoes” is a must. There are a few resting spots along the way, but be prepared for a strenuous workout. If you’re not used to long treks, take it slow and carry enough water. Once you reach the bottom, the sight of the “powerful waterfall” makes every step worth it! The pool at the base is perfect for a refreshing dip, though the currents can be strong, so caution is needed. The untouched beauty of the place makes it feel like a secret escape from the world. Tips for future visitors: ✅ Start early to avoid the midday heat. ✅ Carry snacks, water, and a change of clothes. ✅ Wear “non-slip shoes” the steps can be treacherous. ✅ If you have knee or mobility issues, reconsider the trek. The journey back up is even harder, so pace yourself. But honestly, the sheer beauty of Aagaya Gangai makes the struggle worthwhile. It’s one of the most stunning waterfalls in Tamil Nadu, and the sense of accomplishment after completing the trek is unbeatable! “Highly recommended for adventure lovers and nature enthusiasts” just be prepared for a tough but rewarding experience! 🌿💦 Would I visit again? Absolutely! (But maybe after some leg training! 😆)

Wonderful falls to enjoy and mix with nature. But bit adventures and have to walk through 1500 steps to reach. But worth it
Arun K — Google review
Kolli Hills: A Paradise for Nature Lovers If you're a nature enthusiast, Kolli Hills is a must-visit destination. Among its many attractions, the breathtaking Aagaya Gangai Waterfalls stands out. Located just a few kilometers from the city center, you can easily reach the entry point to the falls by car or bike. The Tamil Nadu Forest Department charges a nominal entry fee of ₹25 per person. From the entry, you'll need to descend about 600-900 steps to reach the waterfall. While the trek can be a bit challenging, the stunning views of nature along the way make it feel like a dream. The falls themselves are nothing short of spectacular. Towering and powerful, the cascading water resembles fine powder pouring from the top of the hill. The spray from the falls is so intense that it feels like standing in a gentle rain—an experience that will leave you mesmerized. Tips for Visitors: Wear raincoats and use waterproof mobile covers. Avoid carrying electronic gadgets unless they are well-protected from water. Aagaya Gangai is truly a must-visit spot for anyone exploring Kolli Hills. (This review is based on my personal experience.)

The walk down and up the 1200+ steps is worth for the view. It’s sad though to see the trash of plastics, clothes, etc. We seriously lack civic sense to maintain our nature.

It’s very calm and beautiful shiva temple located at kolli hills. The temple small and clean with lord shiva as the main deity surrounded by other deities. The temple is under the control of government. There was some work is going during our visit. The views from the temple are awesome and there is one small falls and Agatha Gangai falls at the straight bottom of the temple. Overall it’s definitely worth to visit there

Peaceful Ancient Temple with Spacious Parking Visited Arapaleeswarar Temple in Kolli Hills — a truly serene and spiritual experience. 🚗 Vehicle Entry & Parking: You need to pay a small fee for vehicle entry, but after that there is a large dedicated parking area. It was easy to park, even on weekends. 🛕 Temple Experience: This is a legacy temple with deep history and cultural significance. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is believed to be built during the Chola dynasty and has a unique charm with its simple yet powerful architecture. The inner sanctum feels very peaceful, and the temple atmosphere is calm and divine. 👥 Crowd & Atmosphere: The temple was not crowded during my visit, which allowed for an unhurried darshan. The priests were respectful, and the overall experience was very soulful compared to more commercialized temples. 🍲 Food Options Nearby: Around the temple, there are a few small village-side hotels/restaurants — more like simple sheds — where you can get lunch or basic meals. The food was okay, but don’t expect too much since it’s prepared in a simple village style. Still, it adds to the authentic rural experience. 🌄 Location: Surrounded by the hills and greenery, the temple has a refreshing climate. The approach roads are scenic, and the temple itself adds to the heritage vibe of Kolli Hills. ✅ Overall: A must-visit when you are in Kolli Hills. Easy access, well-managed parking, less crowded, with a spiritually uplifting experience.

Arappaleeswarar Temple in Kolli Hills is an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, set amidst serene greenery. 🙏🌿 The temple is closely linked with Siddhar traditions and is believed to have hidden secrets within its sanctum. ✨ Located near Agaya Gangai Falls, it offers both spiritual peace and natural beauty for devotees and visitors. 🕉️🌊
Mithun N — Google review
The spiritual vibe you get from the place is really meaningful for your internal soul. It is located in kollimalai which you get the peacefulness as well.
Rishy T — Google review
I often come to this temple. Because Lord and Lordess appear in majestic forms. Anyone with simple spiritualistic values will get mesmerised by the mind blowing spectacular appearances of Almighty and Almighty Godess. That too to sing Annapoorneswari sthrom infront of Almighty Goddess is really a blessing acquired through a long birth-death cycle. Further Lord Muruga with his consorts is placed right opposite to Aram valartha Nayagi. The background is composed of Lord Vinayaka, Kasi Vishwanathar, Visalakshi, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswathi, Jyestadevi, Durgai, Kalabhairavar and Navagraha sannidhi, apart from Sun & Moon shrines. And then the famous rotating stones are there. To be visited atleast once in lifetime. Not to forget the darshan of SRI CHAKRAM in Ambal sannidhi. OM NAMAH SHIVAYA.

It's an ideal place to spend time with family, particularly for kids who will love the visit. Visitors can witness the gold car (thanga ther) run on Fridays at 7 pm by paying Rs 1500. Nestled atop Thindal Malai hill, the temple offers "a serene atmosphere" and "panoramic views of Erode" . The temple is accessible by climbing roughly 120 steps, or via a well-paved road for vehicles . Ample parking is available, though there is a fee, and some small shops at the base offer flowers and other items . Located approximately 6–8 km from Erode city center, it’s well-connected via buses and road networks . Festivals & Special Highlights The temple car (golden chariot) is run on certain occasions—such as Fridays—and can be witnessed by paying a donation (e.g., ₹1,500) . Major festivals like Thaipusam, Karthigai Deepam, and Panguni Uthiram are celebrated with grandeur and draw large crowds . The temple holds significance as one of the 108 Murugan shrines celebrated in Tiruppugazh hymns .

Thindal Murugan Kovil is truly a divine and spiritually uplifting place dedicated to Lord Murugan, the embodiment of wisdom, courage, and victory. The temple is situated on a small hill, giving devotees a serene atmosphere away from the noise of the city. Climbing up and having darshan itself feels like a blessing, as the cool breeze and peaceful surroundings fill the mind with positivity and devotion. The idol of Lord Murugan here is majestic and radiates divine energy. The temple is well-maintained, with clean premises and organized darshan, allowing devotees to worship peacefully. The chanting of mantras and the sound of temple bells create an aura of spirituality that deeply touches the soul. One of the highlights is the panoramic view from the top of the hill, which adds to the beauty and sanctity of the temple. Visiting during early mornings or evenings gives a blissful experience, especially when the temple lights shine across the city. Festivals, particularly Thaipusam and Panguni Uthiram, are celebrated with grandeur, attracting devotees from far and wide. The spiritual vibrations during these times are indescribable and must be experienced in person. Thindal Murugan Temple in Thindal, Erode, Tamil Nadu, is a very peaceful and beautiful place to visit. The temple is built on a small hill and offers a lovely view of Erode city. Climbing up is easy, and the cool breeze makes it a pleasant experience. The main deity, Lord Murugan, looks divine and powerful, bringing peace and positivity to everyone who visits. The temple is clean and well maintained, and the priests are kind and helpful. When I visited, some construction work was going on, which shows that the temple is being improved for devotees. There is car parking available, but it is limited, so visiting early or on weekdays is better. The temple is near a busy traffic area, but it’s easy to reach, and there is a bus stop nearby for those using public transport. The morning and evening atmosphere is very calm and spiritual with beautiful chants. Overall, a must-visit temple in Erode for peace, devotion, and blessings.

A beautiful temple. It may appear to be small but it's a big one and open type of temple. The line is quick and fast moving. You can literally see the god from any place you stand within the temple compound in front. They give vada as well after the darshan. Parking is there nearby at walkable distance in an open ground.

The Namakkal Anjaneyar Temple is quite remarkable the sheer height and open to sky nature of the idol give it a very special feel. This temple is of a large sized boon giving Anjaneya in standing posture. Here Anjaneya with folded hands, is facing the sannidhi of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha across the road. This ancient temple dating more than 10 centuries back and patronized by Cholas and Vijayanagar emperors is located in Karur, just a Km away from the Karur Bus stand. The temple is also near to the ancient Vaishnavite temple, Kalyana Venkatramana Temple on Thanthondri Malai. The Lord of the temple is Pasupathi also called as Aanilai. Goddess is named Soundaryanakai. This is one of the 275 Padal Petra Sthalams as it finds a place in the Thevara Hymns of Thirugnana Sambandar. This is a vast temple and mostly free of crowds, and has quite a peaceful atmosphere. Om Nama Shivaya |

In the sacred heart of Karur stands the divine Pashupatheswarar Temple, a timeless sanctuary whose beauty transcends ages, whispering tales from before the reign of Rajendra Chola. Here, the sacred Nama of Pashupathi echoes with profound reverence—born from Kamadhenu’s penance, her meditation echoing the divine blessings of Shiva, the Lord of all creatures. Goddess Parvati, the gentle consort, sits nearby in divine grace, embodying devotion by Shiva’s side. Mahalakshmi, in her myriad divine forms, adorns this sacred space, radiating auspiciousness and grace. Deities like Sri Mugugan, Ganesha, and Durga grace this hallowed ground, each enfolding devotees with divine power and compassion. This temple, a spiritual haven, breathes blessings—especially for marriage, progeny, and familial harmony—imbuing hearts with hope and divine assurance. Within its vast and tranquil halls, sacred energy flows like a gentle stream, filling the soul with peace and positivity. Early morning darshan unveils the true essence of spirituality—an awakening of the heart, a communion with the divine. A visit here is a sublime journey—an eternal embrace of divine grace and cosmic love.

Arulmigu Kalyana Pasupatheswarar Temple is located near the Karur bus stand, making it easily accessible. It is a peaceful and divine place dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple, originally built by the Cholas, carries great historical significance. The premises are well-maintained, clean, and usually less crowded, which adds to the calm spiritual experience.

A very very old and antique temple from the karur city. We can see the art of statues from this temple tower. We should go to this place for peaceful. A big space in this temple for other programs like nattiyanjali and traditional programs. And now front of the tower painted colourfully. We can feel a goddess peace, when we enter the sreasury of temple. Everybody should meditate at least 10 minutes here. Out of treasury each and every places are very clean. In drinking water source giving RO system. And they has mentioned as "WATER OFFERING".

(21/2/22), beautiful temple in my locality it was renovated last couple years. The main god here is shiva surrounded by lord ganesh, murugan, Amman, Brahma, 63 nayanmargal etc. It's a bit big temple we can see separate Mandapam for karuvurar. This temple has its own history, this place was once a forest and it is mostly used for pasture, one day the cow which was grazing went straight to snake pit nearby, cow poured it's milk on pit and where the lord Shiva found and that place was made as temple by the locality and consideration as most powerful. This story can be also found in entrance of kodi maram or inside their is a sculpture which describes the history of this temple

Kodaikanal Lake, an artificial lake dating back to the 19th century, is a picturesque spot featuring a boathouse offering rowboats and pedal boats for visitors to enjoy. The area around the lake offers serene views and natural light, with lush greenery adding to its charm. While staying at nearby accommodations like Sterling Kodai Lake, guests can experience courteous staff and indoor recreational facilities. The location provides a quiet and secluded atmosphere, perfect for relaxation.
This lake is quite vast. Visitors with more energy can enjoy a pedal boat ride, while others can opt for a boat operated by an authorized person. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance. Around the lake, there is a scenic road where people can rent bicycles or enjoy a horse ride in the evening.

I visited this lake and really liked the atmosphere. Boating and cycling were enjoyable, though it was quite crowded during the day. There’s also a market around the lake with souvenirs, food, and local chocolates. But for me, the best part was at night — the place becomes almost empty, and that’s when you can truly enjoy the cool breeze and the beauty of nature.

Kodaikanal Lake is located right in the heart of Kodaikanal and was artificially created in the 19th century. It’s a vast and scenic spot where you can enjoy beautiful views of the entire town. The lake is quite famous for its boating and pedal boating activities, which attract visitors throughout the year. Unfortunately, during our visit, it was raining both days, so we couldn’t enjoy any of these activities — but the misty weather still made the place feel magical. 📍For more details and travel posts, Follow Let’s Travel Hyderabad on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Google Maps.

A Mirror of the Mountains – Kodaikanal Lake, Tamil Nadu If there’s a heart that beats at the center of Kodaikanal, it’s the shimmering Kodaikanal Lake — calm, elegant, and surrounded by misty hills that look like they’ve stepped out of a painting. 🌫️💧 This star-shaped lake was created in 1863 by Sir Vere Henry Levinge, a British collector who wanted to make Kodaikanal a summer retreat. What began as a man-made lake soon turned into one of the most beautiful natural wonders of South India. Over the years, it’s seen everything — British horse carriages, quiet fishermen, giggling tourists, and the golden glow of a thousand sunsets. ☀️✨ Walking around the 5 km lake pathway is an experience in itself — tall eucalyptus trees on one side, the sparkling blue water on the other, and the sweet scent of pine and fresh earth in the breeze. You can ride a bicycle, go boating, or simply sit by the edge and watch the clouds dance in the lake’s reflection. 🚣‍♂️🌤️ Evenings here feel magical — the lights from nearby cafés reflect softly on the water, and the sound of laughter mixes with the gentle ripples. It’s peaceful, romantic, and timeless — a place where you can pause life and just be. Pro Tip: Visit early morning or just before sunset for the best views and light. Try the shikara-style boats or pedal boats for a quiet ride in the mist. And don’t miss a cup of hot chocolate from a lakeside stall! ☕💙 Kodaikanal Lake isn’t just water surrounded by hills — it’s a feeling. A place where time slows, hearts rest, and nature reminds you that beauty doesn’t shout — it whispers. 🌄💫

Bryant Park, located in the picturesque hill station of Kodaikanal, is a 20-acre botanical garden established in 1908. Maintained by the Department of Horticulture, it features a glasshouse, lush lawns, colorful flower beds, and a pond with water lilies. The park boasts an extensive collection of rose bushes, cacti, shrubs, and rare tree species.
Bryant Park is an absolute gem, and a visit here truly feels like stepping into a tranquil oasis right in the heart of the city. From the moment I entered, I was struck by its incredible beauty and lush greenery. The meticulously maintained lawns and vibrant trees created such a picturesque setting that I honestly felt transported to a charming European country. It's rare to find such a peaceful and aesthetically pleasing place that offers such a delightful escape from urban hustle. Beyond its stunning appearance, the park is remarkably neat and clean, which significantly adds to its appeal. Even the washroom facilities were impeccably maintained, which is always a welcome sign and speaks volumes about the care taken in the park's upkeep. Bryant Park is a must-visit for anyone seeking a serene and beautiful environment. It's a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll, a quiet read, or simply to soak in the peaceful atmosphere. A Garden that Smiles in Every Color – Bryant Park, Kodaikanal Right beside the shimmering Kodai Lake lies one of the most peaceful and colorful corners of Kodaikanal — the beautiful Bryant Park. 🌷🍃 If heaven had a garden, it would probably look like this — full of flowers, fresh air, and the soothing sound of the breeze moving through trees. Laid out in the early 1900s by H.D. Bryant, a British forest officer, this park was designed as a botanical showcase — and it still feels like a living painting. Everywhere you look, you’ll find vibrant flower beds, ornamental shrubs, exotic trees, and lush lawns, all perfectly maintained against the backdrop of misty hills. 🌺🌳 I spent hours here, walking slowly along the pathways, capturing hundreds of photos of flowers — from rare orchids to colorful roses. Every corner looks like it was made for the camera. 📸💐 If you love photography, gardening, or just being surrounded by beauty, Bryant Park is pure bliss. During the annual flower show, the park turns into a festival of colors and fragrance — thousands of blooms arranged in intricate designs, drawing visitors from all over South India. 🌼✨ The peaceful vibe here is what I loved most — children playing, couples relaxing under trees, and travelers quietly soaking in nature’s calm. Sitting on a bench here, you can actually feel your thoughts slow down — it’s that peaceful. Pro Tip: Visit in the morning for the best light and fewer crowds. Spring to early summer is the most colorful season, but the park stays green year-round. Bryant Park isn’t just a garden — it’s a reminder that nature doesn’t rush; it simply blooms. 🌸💫 And with every photo you click here, you don’t just capture flowers — you capture peace. 🌿📷

Coaker's Walk, constructed in 1872 by Lieutenant Coaker, is a popular one-kilometer long walkway offering stunning views of the valley and mountains. It is located just 500 meters away from Kodai Lake and provides an amphitheatrical view of the surrounding hill range. The walkway winds around Mount Nebo, starting near Van Allen Hospital and ending at St. Peter's Church, providing panoramic vistas of the plains.

Where Clouds Walk Beside You – Coaker’s Walk, Kodaikanal If you ever want to know what it feels like to walk through the clouds, come to Coaker’s Walk in Kodaikanal. 🌫️💙 This narrow, winding pedestrian path along the edge of a steep hillside offers one of the most breathtaking views you’ll ever see — a walk where nature feels alive with every step. Built in 1872 and named after Lt. Coaker, this scenic pathway stretches for about 1 kilometer, overlooking the rolling hills, deep valleys, and the distant plains of Tamil Nadu. On a clear day, you can see the Pambar River, Dolphin’s Nose, and even the small village lights twinkling miles away — but on misty days, it’s pure magic. The fog moves like soft waves, wrapping everything in silence and mystery. 🌄🌫️ There’s something deeply calming here — the sound of the wind, the smell of fresh eucalyptus, and the feeling of being high above the world. Whether you visit at sunrise, when the first golden light touches the hills, or in the evening when the mist rolls in, Coaker’s Walk never looks the same twice. It’s a favorite spot for photographers, couples, and peace seekers — every corner feels like a postcard waiting to be framed. Don’t miss the viewpoint telescope at the end, and stop for a cup of hot tea or roasted corn from local vendors — it completes the mountain mood perfectly. ☕🌽 Pro Tip: Visit early morning for sunrise or after 5 PM for a misty romantic vibe. Carry a light jacket — the breeze here loves surprises! 💨 Coaker’s Walk isn’t just a pathway — it’s an experience, a quiet conversation between you and the clouds. You don’t just walk here — you drift, you breathe, you belong. 🌥️💫

Nestled atop a picturesque hill and enveloped by lush forests, the Arulmigu Solaimalai Murugan Temple in Pazhamudircholai stands as one of the six revered abodes dedicated to Lord Murugan, the Hindu deity of war. This sacred site is accessible via a winding road that may not always be fully paved, offering visitors options to either trek 3 kilometers or take government buses or private vehicles.
Recently visited the Pazhamudircholai Murugan Temple. Wonderful experience. Mesmerizing idol of Lord Murugan. Surprisingly people weren't understanding when we asked the direction to Pazhamudircholai Murugan Temple. It's popularly known as Solaimalai Murugan Temple. The temple is located about 25 kilometres north of Madurai, atop a hill covered with dense forests. One of the six important abodes of the deity Murugan located in Tamil Nadu, it is close to the Alagar Perumal Temple. Around 3 kms from Alagar Kovil, there's a small ghat road to the top of hill. The road is excellent. Govt free bus service is available but one needs to wait in long queues. Many people come by walking. Roadside parking available on top of the hill. Temple will be open from morning 6am to evening 6 pm. No break in between. Darshan usually takes 1-2 hrs during weekends. There's Rs. 100 quick darshan service available which takes around 30 mins.

Pazhamudhircholai, one of Lord Murugan’s Arupadai Veedu, is where Avvai Patti received wisdom from Murugan himself — about hot and cold fruits! I visited on a Sunday around 5:30 pm, there was quite a crowd, so I took the ₹100 darshan ticket. If you wait for about 30 minutes, the rush settles down and you can have a peaceful darshan. The picture gallery is lovely they even give a Murugan Valli Devasenai photo with a coin, a nice keepsake for pooja, travel, or gifting to others. The temple layout is beautiful: Vinayagar shrine comes first, Murugan with Valli and Devasenai in the center, and the Vel shrine at the end. Set on a hill, the place is cool and serene though the monkeys are plenty and a bit aggressive thanks to frequent feeding. So, guard your food and belongings! A visit here is a true delight, especially to see the ancient Kadugal and soak in the divine calm of the hills.

A Divine Experience at Arulmigu Solaimalai Murugan Temple! Visiting this temple nestled in the lush hills of Pazhamudircholai was truly a spiritual and serene experience. As one of the Arupadai Veedu (six abodes of Lord Murugan), this temple holds deep religious significance and offers a peaceful escape from the busy world below. The drive up the hill was scenic, with dense greenery and fresh air. The road is well-maintained, though a bit narrow in parts, so caution is advised. There's also a government bus service for those who prefer public transport. The temple itself is modest in structure but rich in energy. The natural surroundings amplify the spiritual vibe. It was heartwarming to see the main deity—Lord Murugan—worshipped alongside Valli and Deivanai. The temple priests were friendly and maintained a good rhythm of poojas and aarti. Don't miss the nearby Noopura Ganga, a sacred stream said to have divine origins. The entire area feels untouched and blessed. Tips: Footwear must be removed at the base before heading up the steps. Morning and evening visits are best to avoid the heat. Carry water and be respectful of the natural surroundings. Highly recommend this temple not just for devotees, but also for nature lovers and peace seekers.

Small temple from the Aarupadai lot and open at all times. Vehicle parking is available on the road sides. Slightly ghat section and people will be walking all along to climb up/down. *Must-Visit Destination near Madurai!* If you're visiting Madurai, you absolutely can't miss this place! The view is breathtaking, and the experience is unforgettable. Here's a little insider tip: *Insider Tips:* 1. *Extra Clothes*: If you're planning to visit the Noopura Gangai Rakkayi Amman Temple, make sure to carry an extra pair of clothes. You'll need to take a bath, and while there's a ₹15 ticket option to skip the long queue, the free line can take over an hour, even if there are only a few people ahead of you. 2. *Route Suggestion*: Take the Madurai - Natham Rd. It might be a bit longer, but the scenic views and smooth ride make it worth it. The road is close to the mountains, and you'll enjoy the picturesque views without any traffic hassles. 3. *Evening Visit*: Plan your trip in the evening and aim to reach the temples before 4:00 PM. This way, you can explore all three temples and take in the stunning views. Keep an eye out for the mischievous monkeys on the way – they're generally harmless, but drive safely! *Pro Tip:* Don't miss the two additional temples located uphill. They're definitely worth a visit! Recommendation:A must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Madurai. Enjoy the scenic views, explore the temples, and take in the spiritual atmosphere.

Azhagar Kovil temple is a popular destination in Madurai. This temple is located 22 kilometers from Madurai city. This massive structure is surrounded by a fort. Alagarkovil and its surrounding villages have a historical past with traces of two thousand year old evidence. It is one of the 108 abodes of Lord Vishnu, who is worshipped in the name of Kallazhagar. The mandapam and the exquisite pillars leave one in awe. The Chithirai festival during which the god Alagar visits Madurai and enters into the river Vaigai is the most famous one attracting devotees from all over Tamil Nadu. This is actually a great occasion not seen elsewhere in Tamil Nadu. It is the common forum where the folk and the elitist population mingle with each other. This festival brings social, religious and cultural harmony among the people.

It is closed to mountain and no traffic and nice road quility. 3) travel in evening try to reach before 4:00 PM so you can enjoy all 3 temple and on the way to mountain lots of monkeys (not so harmful) but drive safely

The temple is truly beautiful, and the prasadham is excellent. If devotees visit, the free line moves faster than the paid one, which is convenient. The Ramanujar shrine is a peaceful spot where you can rest, and the Perumal looks stunning. A visit to Shakarathalvar is a must, but before that, make sure to stop by the Karupu Swami Kovil at the entrance—the aroma of his sandhanam is heavenly. After that, you can see Azhagar and explore the other shrines at a slow and relaxed pace, making the visit truly enjoyable. The temples maintainance was so good and kept clean.

Nestled between towering pillar-shaped rocks, Guna Cave, also known as Devil's Kitchen, is a mesmerizing destination located near Pillar Rocks in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. Discovered in 1821 and made famous by the film 'Guna,' this enchanting site is about 10 kilometers from Kodaikanal along Moir Point road.
Also called Devil’s Kitchen, Guna Caves are full of deep and narrow gaps that feel thrilling when you stand near the fence. When I visited, the skies were not clear, so the surrounding views were not visible, also it was quite crowded and there was hardly any space for photos. One of the most striking sights here are the tree roots, which twist and spread in fascinating patterns — almost like nature’s own artwork — and you can easily find pictures of them online. Small shops nearby offer snacks and souvenirs, but the main charm is the adventurous and slightly eerie atmosphere combined with these unique natural formations.

It’s a beautiful place, but ever since the famous movie was shot here, it has become quite crowded. You can still enjoy a nice, chill vibe uphill, but don’t expect to get good photos as it’s usually packed with visitors. However, the experience with the local staff wasn’t great. The ticket collector was a bit rude and insisted on exact change even though they had enough change in the counter. It seems the language barrier played a role, as the treatment felt a bit different because we didn’t speak the local language

We visited Guna Cave during our trip to Kodaikanal, and it was an amazing experience! The place has a mysterious charm, surrounded by tall pine trees and cool misty air. The walk through the forest to reach the viewpoint was beautiful. Though entry to the actual cave is restricted for safety reasons, the view of the roots, rocks, and fog gives it a unique and eerie vibe. It’s definitely worth a visit for nature lovers and anyone who enjoys peaceful, scenic spots with a touch of mystery! It was quite crowded since we visited on a weekend, so visiting early in the morning might be a better option to enjoy the place peacefully. 🌲🌫️✨

We visited Guna Cave during our trip to Kodaikanal, and it was an amazing experience! The place has a mysterious charm, surrounded by tall pine trees and cool, misty air. The short walk through the forest to reach the viewpoint is scenic and enjoyable. Although entry to the actual cave is restricted for safety reasons, the roots, rocks, and fog around the area create an eerie and captivating atmosphere. The spot became famous after the 1992 Tamil movie Guna, starring Kamal Haasan, which is why it’s popularly known as Guna Cave. Its original name, given by the British, is Devil’s Kitchen. The recent popularity from the movie Manjummel Boys has attracted even more visitors. Even though the cave itself is not visible from the closed gates—due to overgrown forest leaves and grass—the viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain ranges. The location is absolutely stunning. Do note that many sections are closed because the cave crevices are extremely deep and dangerous, and steel gates have been installed to prevent accidents. This is a very popular tourist spot, especially on weekends, so expect crowds. Parking can also be challenging, so plan accordingly. I recommend visiting on weekdays for a calmer experience. Despite the crowd and traffic, the natural beauty and the cool weather make the trip truly worthwhile.

It's unique destination and very popular among tourist specially on weekends. One can relax and enjoy natural fog. Caves are closed but one can visit forest. Trees has unique roots which makes them very popular among tourist. There is ample parking space available and one can visit pine forest which is very nearby.

Where Mystery Meets the Mountains – Guna Caves, Kodaikanal Hidden deep within the misty woods of Kodaikanal lies one of its most mysterious wonders — the Guna Caves, also known as the Devil’s Kitchen. 🌫️🕳️ It’s not just a tourist spot — it’s a place that feels alive, wrapped in fog, silence, and a touch of mystery that you can almost feel in the air. The caves are located near Pillar Rocks, surrounded by towering pine trees and wild greenery. Originally discovered by British officer B.S. Ward in 1821, they remained a secret of the forest for years — until the 1992 Tamil movie “Guna” was filmed here, giving the caves their popular name and a place in pop culture. 🎬🌲 As you walk through the forest path leading to the viewpoint, the air grows cooler and heavier with mist. The roots of ancient pine trees twist over the rocky ground, and through the gaps in the fencing, you can see the dark, deep cracks of the caves below — a natural maze carved by time and wind. Because of safety reasons, entry into the cave interiors is restricted, but even from the viewpoint, the sight is mesmerizing — a blend of beauty and eeriness that makes your imagination wander. It’s one of those places where nature whispers old secrets if you stand still long enough. 🌬️💫 Photographers, trekkers, and adventure seekers love this spot — not for its grandeur, but for its quiet, haunting charm. The silence here isn’t empty; it’s full of stories. Pro Tip: Visit in the early morning when the mist is thick — it adds an otherworldly vibe. Wear good shoes; the trail can be slippery after rain. Combine your visit with Pine Forest and Pillar Rocks nearby for a perfect nature circuit. 🌿📸 Guna Caves isn’t about what you see — it’s about what you feel. A place that reminds you how mysterious and powerful nature can be. 🌫️🕊️

Guna Cave is one of the most mysterious and intriguing spots in Kodaikanal. The place has a spooky charm with its deep, narrow caves surrounded by dense forest and roots that look straight out of a movie. The viewpoint nearby gives a great panoramic view of the valley. However, visitors aren’t allowed to go deep inside the caves for safety reasons, and the area can get crowded with tourists and monkeys. Still, it’s a must-visit if you enjoy nature, adventure, and a bit of eerie atmosphere.

OVER-CROWDED😖😖 Guna Caves, once known as Devil’s Kitchen, is a famous natural cave formation in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. Over the years, it became a popular tourist attraction, drawing countless visitors. The caves earned their present name after being prominently featured in the 1991 Tamil film Gunaa, starring Kamal Haasan. Following the movie’s release, the site gained immense popularity and continued to attract large crowds. Later, it also served as a filming location for other movies, including the climax of the Malayalam film Shikkar (2010) and Manjummel Boys (2024), which depicted a real-life accident that occurred inside the cave.

Nestled a few kilometers away from Theni, Berijam Lake is a 59-acre reservoir and a popular tourist attraction in the region. Surrounded by hills, this natural setting offers grand views and lush greenery, making it an ideal spot for picnics with family. As part of a forest conservation area, it's a haven for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. The lake is preserved by the Kodaikanal Forest Department, ensuring the protection of its raw and rustic wildlife.
Best place for nature lovers. It was best part of my Kodai visit. It is part of the reserve forest and requires permit to enter, private cars are not allowed inside. You can park your car near the entrance at Moir Point and take forest jeep to reach the lake which is around 10km inside for around Rs.300. Also you can ask your hotel or taxi company for forest tour package which will cost around Rs.3000 to and from your hotel.

"Berijam lake trip" => Silent valley view point->caps fly view point->berijam lake view point-> mathiketten sholai->berijam lake. All these are inside the forest where you cannot go on your own. You can take a forest trip via forest department canter vehicle( 20 seater). Ticket per person rs 250/-. Trip duration approx 2 hrs. Trip starts from Moir point. Sufficient parking space at Moir point to park your vehicle. Be there by 0930 am to catch a first trip. No online booking. Tickets will be issued inside the vehicle. Trip starts only after all seats are full. Second option is, you can take your own vehicle after obtaining prior permission from forest dept, located in kodaikanal. Forest trip is worth taking.

Best isolated place with less tourist where it is absolutely silent , free from pollution and vehicle noise. It’s just nature and you. You can also find some wild animals and birds along the way. Only limited vehicles are allowed inside with permits issued at forest office or you can come directly buy the tickets and forest department will take you for short tour in a van with forest department personal.

Worth place to visit in Kodaikanal.. Need to get permission from forest office for the car or there is a shuttle facility arranged by forest department from Moir point. Costing ₹250 - ₹500

It is at the end of the forest trail tour package of Kodaikanal, after silent valley, caps point and Madhikettan Shola view, you come to the Berijam Lake view' from where you get an eagle's view of the lake. The lake itself comes after further drive for one or two km. Half the lake is filled with lilies and the other half is clear. A walk around the lake, at the edge of the tiger and bison territory, is the feature of the lake. Because it is deep inside the forest it is serene but some noisy tourists disturb it by testing their decibels. Shouting nuisance should be prohibited here. Otherwise, you can spend half an hour walking and sitting on the banks of the lake.

Stunning, in the mid of forest, pure nature. Wonderful place to visit. One needs to take permit one day in advance from forest dept.in kodaikanal to access through private car else forest department buses are also good option with 250 bucks return journey of 3 hours. View of lake and some of the forest views are stunning. Worth the experience

Do not visit this place until they finish their renovation. It’s total waste of money and time. On each side of main building which is under renovation, there are two galleries. One is paid and another is either free or included in the price. Staffs at both centre were taking their mid noon nap and was not bothered to greet or say hello. All what’s on display was in a very bad state. There were lots of spelling mistakes on all the writings. Someone accountable, please have a look. This is not what a Gandhi Museum in India should look like even when it’s on renovation. Very very very disappointed and has never seen anything pathetic like this.

Didn't go there. This is always in renovation. Wase r of time. Glad that ticket cost is not so high, just ten rupees per adult and five rupees for kids. Museum renovated for ever ..this is a bad administration for all relevant departments. And it's a huge reputation damage to the City. I urge honorable district collector sir to jump in an look into this on priority.
Bhaskar S — Google review
Main museum is under renovation (it was supposed to have reopened by now), government museum is often closed depending on the day, and the only thing to see is a small exhibit on the Indian independence movement, a replica of Gandhi’s house, and a shrine that (supposedly) contains some of his ashes. Worth 30-45 minutes if you’re already in the area otherwise skip it - you can get the same information about Gandhi online quite easily. Also why is there a giant T-Rex at a Gandhi memorial? Seems a bit distasteful.

I visited this place on 17th July 2025. There was only a small gallery where you could learn about india's journey from when the britishers started colonising to the independence period.. it would take 30- 40 mins to see this gallery. A lot of history that we learned in school and more can be understood from here. In addition to this there is a small museum that was open. There is also a small memorial where Gandhijis ashes are kept. However, the main museum was closed for renovation. Based on my interaction with one staff member, it seems the closed part of the museum would re-open on 2nd October 2025. Pls check with the latest info.. i have seen many reviewers criticizing the staff working there. However, i never faced any issues and the staff were very polite.
Jithin R — Google review
The government museum was closed as we visited on a second Saturday. Some sections of the museum were set up on some individual buildings which we could see. Our experience was good.

Visited the museum on 2 October 2025.. The main museum (palace) was closed for renovation. Some pictures, books and written facts about Gandhiji and freedom struggle is displayed in the gallery. There is a small bookshop near the gallery. Saw the Asthi peedam. Gandhi kutir was closed. The small museum to the left was closed. It has many historical artifacts. # Inside the gallery the staffs were watching reels with high volume. # The security in front of the small museum was very rude. As tourists we may not know everything about the museum and buildings. So if we ask something I believe they should answer politely or guide us to someone who is more informed.

Meenakshi Amman Temple is an ancient Hindu place of worship located in Madurai. The temple features a walled complex with colorful, sculpted gate towers and a sacred water tank. It is a significant religious site with historical and cultural importance, attracting visitors from all over the world.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Divine and Peaceful Experience at Madurai Meenakshi Temple The Madurai Meenakshi Temple is truly a masterpiece — both spiritually and architecturally. The temple is maintained exceptionally well, with clean surroundings and a beautifully organized atmosphere. The queue system is very decent and perfectly managed, ensuring everyone gets a comfortable and peaceful darshan. What impressed me most was how calm and orderly everything felt — no pushing or rush in the lines, allowing devotees to fully experience the divine presence of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar. It was a deeply satisfying and serene visit. Highly recommend visiting this temple for anyone seeking a truly divine and peaceful darshan experience! 🙏

An absolute masterpiece of devotion and architecture. The moment you enter, you’re surrounded by color, life, and divine energy. Every sculpture, every carving tells a story from centuries of faith. The towering gopurams painted in vibrant hues are breathtaking up close. This temple isn’t just a monument; it’s the living heart of Madurai. The rituals, the chants, the fragrance of incense, and the calm faces of devotees create an atmosphere you can feel in your bones. Goddess Meenakshi’s sanctum radiates an indescribable sense of peace and power.Whether you visit for faith, history, or art, you’ll walk out lighter, grateful, and deeply moved. Truly one of India’s most magnificent spiritual experiences.🤩🕉️🔱♥️🛕

A peaceful and memorable visit to Madurai Meenakshi Temple I recently visited the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple and it was a beautiful experience. The temple is grand and full of history, with amazing carvings and colorful towers. At the moment, the towers are under renovation and painting work is going on, so most of them are covered. Still, the temple’s beauty and energy can be felt everywhere. Inside, the atmosphere is calm and spiritual. The darshan of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar felt very peaceful. Even though it was crowded, everything was fairly well organized. One thing to be careful about — there are a lot of people outside trying to mislead visitors, especially auto drivers and some shopkeepers. They might say there’s no cloakroom inside, but don’t believe that. There are official cloakrooms near all four temple towers where you can safely keep your slippers and mobile phones. Overall, it was a meaningful visit and a reminder of how rich and alive our traditions still are. #MaduraiTemple #MeenakshiAmmanTemple #Madurai #TempleVisit #TamilNaduTemples #TravelTips #SpiritualExperience #IncredibleIndia

I visited the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai, and the experience was truly exceptional. I loved the temple with all my heart. The architecture is breathtaking, and they are still working on certain areas to make it even better. Every intricate detail on the walls is impressive and reflects the temple’s rich heritage. The people there are incredibly pure and kind-hearted. Their warmth and the way they treat visitors stood out to me—they genuinely make you feel respected and welcomed. Before entering the temple, there are a few important rules to follow. You must remove your shoes, and bags have to be deposited at the designated counters. Shoe storage is available for free at specific counters, which is very convenient. Mobile phones and electronic gadgets are not allowed inside the temple premises, and you cannot leave your phone inside your bag. There is a special counter meant only for mobile phones, where they charge ₹5 per phone. So if you are planning to visit, it’s best to come hands-free or carry only what’s necessary so you can enter peacefully and enjoy the temple without any hassle. Overall, it was a soulful and memorable experience, and I would highly recommend a visit to anyone traveling to Madurai.

🌟 A Breathtaking Marvel of Dravidian Architecture and Divine Energy! (5/5 Stars) 🌟 The Meenakshi Amman Temple is not just a place of worship; it is an architectural and spiritual masterpiece that left me completely in awe. It is the heart and soul of Madurai and an absolute must-visit for anyone traveling through South India. What truly stands out: 1. The Gopurams (Gateway Towers): The sheer scale and detail of the 14 multi-tiered, colorful gopurams are unbelievable. They are adorned with thousands of intricate, vibrant carvings depicting various gods and mythological scenes, telling ancient stories in stone. Walking past them feels like stepping into a living, breathing history book. 2. The Spiritual Ambiance: Inside, the atmosphere is incredibly serene despite the crowds. The scent of incense, the sound of temple bells, and the sight of devotees performing rituals create a powerful and deeply moving spiritual experience. The inner sanctum of Goddess Meenakshi is truly divine. 3. Architectural Highlights: Be sure to spend time in the Hall of Thousand Pillars (Aayiram Kaal Mandapam)—the carving and symmetry are mind-blowing (even though there are 985, not a literal thousand!). Also, don't miss the Golden Lotus Tank (Potramarai Kulam); it provides a beautiful, reflective view of the Southern gopuram. A quick tip for your visit: Mobile phones and cameras are generally not allowed inside, so please use the dedicated deposit counter. It's worth getting a special darshan ticket if you are pressed for time, but otherwise, simply soaking in the history and devotion is enough. An unforgettable journey into art, faith, and history. Highly, highly recommended!

Srivilliputtur Arulmigu Andal Sametha Rangamannar Temple is a lavish Hindu temple known for its carved-stone colonnades and a colorful 59m-tall stepped tower. It is considered one of the six Padai Veedu (Battle Camps) of Lord Murugan, making it a prime attraction in the town.
What is more you can expect other than being divine while you visit the best holy place. Starting from the entrance to coming back to entrance you will be awe'd and wow'ed with the sculptures and stories. This is a marvellous. The Srivilliputhur Andal Temple, located in the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Andal and Lord Vishnu (as Vatapatrasayi). It is one of the 108 Divya Desams, sacred shrines praised by the Alvar saints. The temple complex features stunning Dravidian architecture, with its towering 192-foot rajagopuram (temple tower) being one of the tallest in Tamil Nadu. This tower is so iconic that it is featured in the Tamil Nadu state emblem. The temple has two main sanctums — one for Lord Vatapatrasayi and another for Goddess Andal, who is enshrined in a standing posture. The temple is famous for its Aadi Pooram festival, which celebrates Andal’s birth with grandeur and devotion. During the Tamil month of Margazhi, her devotional hymns, the Tiruppavai, are sung daily. Andal's deep love and devotion for Lord Vishnu are reflected in the temple’s rituals and traditions. Srivilliputhur Andal Temple remains a vital spiritual and cultural center, attracting thousands of devotees and pilgrims every year.

We can take mobiles inside the Vishnu temple but mobile phones are not allowed inside Andal temple and mobiles have to be deposited at mobile keeping centres in front of Andal temple. Arulmigu Kaasi Viswanathar Temple, Tenkasi(Pancha Kashi)

Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Temple & pilgrimage site dedicated to Shiva & dating from the 1200s featuring a 7-tiered tower.
I recently visited the Kasi Viswanathar Temple in Tenkasi. It is one of the largest temples I’ve ever seen in my life. Lord Shiva is the main deity, but there are numerous other deities worshipped within the temple complex. The temple has beautifully preserved its ancient design and aesthetics, which creates a peaceful and blissful atmosphere. It’s incredibly quiet inside, with only the calming sound of mantra chants filling the space. The temple is surrounded by massive compound walls, and its architecture is truly stunning—similar to many other ancient temples found across Tamil Nadu. We visited on a Sunday, and thankfully, it wasn’t too crowded. However, parking is limited and located at the side of the temple, which can make it difficult to find a spot during peak times.

A good temple with Lord Siva in his mang manifestations along with other gods. One sincere request to the Govt of Tamilnadu is to introduce english too in name boards as people who can't read Tamil gets confused seeing the same Sivalinga in many locations. And what each deity is also needs to be written with its moolamathra so that people understand

A must visit Temple when visiting Tenkasi, A peaceful and delightful experience visiting this 🛕. The surroundings of this temple also was neat and well maintained when we visited. The only issue we found here was the provision for parking, we must be lucky enough to find a spot. Tenkasi is built around the Kasi Viswanathar temple. The temple has a seven-tiered gopuram (temple tower) and has concentric granite walls that enshrines all the shrines in the temple. The temple has a pillared hall from the entrance leading to the flagstaff hall. The sanctum is located axial to the entrance facing east. The image of Kasi Viswanathar in the form of lingam is housed in the sanctum. The images of Vinayaka and Subramanya are located on either side of the hall leading to the sanctum

Built in 16th Century, this Basilica dedicated to the Lady of Snows is a magnificent Church located close to the sea shore of Tuticorin. What makes it a minor Basilica ? A minor basilica is a title given by the Catholic Church to churches that are recognized for their historical significance, architectural beauty, and spiritual importance. To become a minor basilica, a church must meet certain criteria and follow a formal process. Here are the key requirements: It must have a historical significance, architectural merits and spiritual importance. This Church has all the 3 requirements. In addition it houses the holy relic of Our Mother Mary's veil ( a small slice). The main Statue brought from Portugal is credited with many miracles. Many of the statues here are brought from France and elsewhere in Europe. You will find that the Church still has strong roots of Catholicism - from the Latin words at the main altar - Sancta Maria - ora Pro Nobis - meaning Holy Mary - Pray for Us, to the grotto depicting Our lady of Lourdes. It even has a statue of our lady of Guadalupe here. If you travel to this part of tamil nadu, this Pani Madha Koil is one of the main points of attraction.

Just about a km and half from the Railway station, normally a cab or tuk tuk drive will cost only Rs.60 to reach the church the local drivers charge anywhere between Rs100-150. Can't crib over it. A quiet laid back place, fishing is the main occupation and business here.

Absolutely a nice and historical church to visit. But if your travelling from a long distance and preferred to stay at the church provided accommodation then please make sure you reach out to the right person with the different contactable number than the one that google advices to contact as it does not exist. Also there are limited rooms currently available and a huge gap in coordination. So, my great advice is to plan for the alternate arrangements for your stay to have a pleasant and divine experience.

Arulmigu Nellaiyappar Temple, located in Tamil Nadu, is a renowned Hindu temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in the 17th century around two intricate 7th-century towers, it boasts beautiful Dravidian architecture and intricate carvings that attract both devotees and tourists. The temple is well-maintained and offers a peaceful atmosphere for visitors to admire its ancient structures and sculptures.
I had the opportunity to visit the Nellaiappar Temple in Tirunelveli on 10th August, and it was truly a divine and memorable experience. The temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva (Nellaiappar) and Goddess Kanthimathi, stands as one of the grandest temples in South India with its magnificent gopurams and intricate stone carvings. The vast corridors, majestic pillars, and the musical stone columns reflect the architectural brilliance of the Pandya dynasty. The spiritual atmosphere inside the temple was deeply calming, and the darshan was very peaceful. Visiting this ancient temple not only gave me a sense of devotion but also admiration for our rich cultural heritage.

A 2nd biggest siva temple in world, with very huge 3(3 for ambal + 3 for shiva)pragarams. Gomathy ambal is very gorgeous 😍 (gnanasakthi swaroopam). I have given 5 starts because every inch of the temple are very clean , Management is not shown that much interest in commercializing darshan( No 100rs,50 rs tickets for darshan) only 5 rs that too not required for all days . I really felt shivas heaven when I entered near garbhagraham of nellaiyappar .I suggest all to visit arround 5.30 Am to see the thiruvanathal sevai ,you will never forget the temple in life

Agasthiyar Falls Power House is located on the way from Papanasam temple to the dam area. Visitors can enjoy a 500-meter walk from the parking area to reach the falls, where many people take a refreshing bath. There's also a separate bathing area and dress changing facility for women, making it a great picnic spot for families. The water is clean and there's even a special Siva temple nearby that's worth visiting.
Small yet beautiful falls which is maintained decently. A view from the top is worth the time on spending to it.

Agasthiyar falls are on the way from Papanasam temple to the dam area. One has to walk 500 m to get to the falls from the parking area. Most of the people going there take a bath in the falls. A separate bathing area and dress changing facility is provided for women. Overall a nice picnic spot. It was good but they allow only up to 5 pm. Overall it was nice place to spend some time. Water was clean and there is a special Siva temple which should be visited... the water falls was not a very big one. separate bathing area for gents and ladies.ladies crowd also large and ladies area also small. for gents it quite large and crows also less. the area not so neat.weekends will be crowded.water flow was good when we went on august.the road from papanasam checkpost will be narrow and hilly.probablity of trafiic jam during weekend is very high. we had 2 hours of jam. beware of monkey. only two small hotels are there near the falls. during break fast they serve poori and idly and lunch only tomotto rice and curd rice. dont miss kalyana theertham the path way is not neat. but the view point is good and temple above is very divine.

Centuries-old temple on the Bay of Bengal with a distinctive 9-story tower & a natural spring.
Went recently to this beautiful temple on the shore filled with calmness around. A spl darshan ticket on a Monday evening 4pm took about 10 mins to see the Lord Muruga. Such a quick darshan which I never imagined. Golu display was awesome and almost 30+ stages of dolls to showcase the culture and divinity. The beach will make you to drench even if you dont wish for one. Such inviting it is. A morning sunrise is never to be missed on a Sea and this place stands noteworthy for the arena it brings up with sounds all over filled with Devotional vibes. Stroll around and you will start planning on when to come again next time. Thanks to all the people involved in maintaining this temple at this level.

I visited the Thiruchendur Murugar Temple last month. The temple is located near the seashore, and the surroundings looked very beautiful. Before going to the temple, I went to the beach and the Nazhikinaru Theertham, which are close to the temple. The sea breeze was cool and refreshing, and many people were enjoying themselves on the beach. I also visited Nazhikinaru, a small sacred well near the shore. The water there was surprisingly sweet, even though it is so close to the salty sea. I washed my hands and sprinkled a little water on my head before heading to the temple. After that, I entered the temple. The tall gopuram looked majestic, and I could hear devotional songs and temple bells. The temple was crowded with devotees but very clean and well managed. I slowly moved in the queue and had a nice darshan of Lord Murugar, who was beautifully decorated with flowers and ornaments. After the darshan, I received prasadam — warm and tasty sakkarai pongal. Then I went to the annadhanam hall, where they served hot food to all visitors. The meal was simple but delicious, and the volunteers served everyone kindly. Before leaving, I bought some small souvenirs from the nearby shops. My visit to Thiruchendur Murugar Temple was a happy and memorable experience.

One among the 6 famous temples of lord murugan. The uniqueness of this temple is that all other 5 temples are located on a hill top or near a hill, but Tiruchendur is the only temple which is located near the sea shore. This temple is famous for the function kantha shasti or soora samharam, in which lord Subramaniya alias lord murugan kills the asuran Soorabhathman and saves the Devas from his torture. This temple is under the control of the Ministry of HR&CE , Government of Tamilnadu . Government has taken many measures to develop and increase the amenities for the people and the pilgrims to facilitate ease of movement of the crowd to worship the Lord Subramaniya and Lord Shanmuga which are the main deities of the temple.

Tiruchendur Murugan Temple is not just a temple to me. It is my home of faith, peace and miracles. Every time I visit, I feel Lord Murugar’s presence so strong that it is impossible to leave without a heart full of blessings. The gopuram is breathtaking. The divine aura and the powerful stillness around the temple make you instantly feel protected. Standing before Lord Murugar here is an experience beyond words. It feels like he listens, understands and holds you close. One of the most magical parts of this temple is the sea right beside it. The sound of the waves, the cool breeze, and the view of the ocean merging with the temple creates a divine atmosphere that you cannot find anywhere. I can personally say that Lord Murugar has done wonders in my life. Every prayer I have made here has been heard in unexpected ways. The guidance, protection, and blessings I have received from Him are beyond words. Whenever life feels heavy, I come back to Tiruchendur and every time, He lifts me up again. If you are looking for peace, miracles, or a connection to something higher, Tiruchendur Murugan temple is a must visit. It’s not just a temple. It’s a divine experience. Om Muruga🙏❤️

Temple is near to beach. You can see sunrise and sunset while in the queue. It is not just a temple but a place full of peacocks. Beautiful nature. You can find budget friendly lodge near temple. We did not take any special ticket for darshan as it was weekday and no special occasion. But during occasion please opt for special darshan, it can reduce waiting time in queue. Definitely stay for a day and enjoy the beach view as well.

The temple just gives you peace , a different kind of energy you can feel once you enter the temple premises, for adults who are above 60 years of age can show there aadhaar can have a quick entry in the queue. This benefits are even for a new born. Along with a elder or a new born one can accompany. We get paneer leaf vibhoothi which is available inside the temple before darshan. Special queues are there that cost you around 100/- per person. Naali kinaru was in construction by the time we visited.

Hidden Gem Near Coutralam Falls! 🌿💦 Wow! What a lovely and beautiful place to enjoy. Located just 40 km away from Coutralam Falls, this mesmerizing spot is far less crowded, making it a peaceful escape. Though the waterfall here is smaller in height, the force of the water is incredible—you literally can’t stand against it! It pushes you right off your spot, which makes it super fun, especially when you're with a group of friends. 🎉 Right next to the falls, you’ll find a dam, which is quite rare to witness together. I’ve never seen a dam and waterfall side by side like this—it’s truly a unique experience! They’ve thoughtfully provided separate dress changing rooms for ladies, ensuring privacy and safety. 👍 The same road also leads to Manjolai, which is a restricted forest area where entry is not allowed without special permission. This entire place is under the control of the Forest Department, and there are strict security checks. Carrying snacks, food, or drinks is not allowed—if you bring any, they’ll be taken at the check post and returned to you on the way back. 📅 Best time to visit: June to August, when the falls are at their best. If you like my review. Please do click like button. Thanks, Sabarinathan C

All the elephants are rescued animals. Visiting for the 2nd time and this time due to heavy rain during monsoon the pathway was blocked by fallen trees and electric lines hence could not view the elephant feeding and bathing and I was taken for a limited sighting of elephants. Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in Trivandrum, Kerala, is a nature lover's paradise. It offers deer viewing, a crocodile park, and boat rides on the picturesque Neyyar Dam. The sanctuary features attractions like the Bus Safari, Elephant Rehabilitation Center, Lion Park, and Crocodile Farm. Visitors can also enjoy guided trekking and overnight camping amidst lush greenery. The serene atmosphere makes it an ideal getaway for hiking or bird-watching enthusiasts.
I visited Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary with a friend and had a wonderful time. On the way, we stopped near the reservoir – while entry is restricted in some areas, there are a few safe spots where people were enjoying a refreshing bath. We then headed up to the top of the dam, which has a small entry fee and parking charge. Totally worth it – the view from the top was absolutely spectacular, especially with the dam gates open, creating a stunning visual of the water gushing down. It’s a perfect location for photography lovers. Nearby, there’s a children’s park which looked well-maintained and great for families. We noticed a boat safari is also available, though we didn’t opt for it this time. There are also a crocodile park and a deer park close by, making it a complete nature experience. Highly recommended for a half-day trip or a peaceful nature escape!
Sajin S — Google review
Once you visit, you’ll realize it’s truly worth the trip. The journey takes you through lush, green landscapes with dense forests flanking both sides of the road. As you arrive, the dam greets you with two distinct views. On the lower side, you’ll find the shutters, a beautifully designed bridge, a children’s park, and other recreational spots. The upper side, in contrast, offers a serene atmosphere—remarkably calm even with over a hundred visitors present at the time. Nearby, there’s a Forest Department office, a cafeteria, and a crocodile park—though the latter could certainly benefit from better maintenance. One of the most exciting features is the variety of boat trips available within the dam, including a longer safari-style excursion. Overall, the experience is enjoyable and memorable. However, it’s hard to ignore the missed potential. The tourism department appears to be underperforming, especially given the vast opportunities available to develop the area into a major attraction. Right now, it feels like a beautiful title waiting for the poem to be written. A sincere request to the government: show the commitment and vision needed to transform this naturally gifted location into a world-class destination for travelers from around the globe.

🌿 A Journey into Nature’s Heart – Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary & Dam, Kerala Nestled in the foothills of the Western Ghats, about 30 kilometers from Thiruvananthapuram, lies one of Kerala’s most underrated yet breathtaking eco-tourism destinations – Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Sprawling over 12,000 hectares of lush greenery, this sanctuary, coupled with the scenic Neyyar Dam, offers an unforgettable blend of adventure, serenity, and natural beauty. 🏞️ The Charm of Neyyar Dam The first sight of the Neyyar Dam instantly captivates you. Surrounded by majestic hills and mirrored waters, it’s a peaceful retreat away from the bustle of city life. The dam not only plays a crucial role in irrigation and water supply but also enhances the area’s beauty, making it a favorite spot for picnics, photography, and evening strolls. The view of the sunset reflecting over the calm reservoir is truly mesmerizing. Boating in the Neyyar reservoir is a must-do activity. Visitors can take a speedboat or a regular motorboat to explore the serene waters and reach the Lion Safari Park or the Crocodile Rehabilitation Centre located within the sanctuary area. 🦁 Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary – A Natural Wonderland The Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a wide range of flora and fauna. The forest is rich with tropical evergreen and deciduous trees, forming a dense canopy that keeps the air fresh and cool even on warmer days. Wildlife enthusiasts can spot species like Asian elephants, gaur (Indian bison), sloth bears, sambars, langurs, and bonnet macaques. For bird lovers, the sanctuary is a paradise with dozens of endemic and migratory birds, their songs echoing through the forest trails. The Lion Safari Park inside the sanctuary offers a thrilling experience. Visitors can take a bus ride through a fenced natural enclosure to see majestic lions in their semi-wild habitat. Though it’s a short trip, it gives a fascinating glimpse into the behavior and grace of these big cats. 🐊 Crocodile Rehabilitation and Research Centre Another highlight is the Crocodile Rehabilitation and Research Centre, one of the few in India dedicated to the conservation of crocodiles. Established in 1977, it aims to protect and breed the endangered species. Visitors can see crocodiles of different ages and sizes basking in the sun or moving through the waters – an educational and exciting experience, especially for children and wildlife enthusiasts. 🧘‍♀️ Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Dhanwanthari Ashram Just near the dam lies the world-renowned Sivananda Yoga Ashram, which adds a spiritual charm to the region. People from all over the world visit the ashram to learn yoga, meditation, and holistic living. The peaceful surroundings of the sanctuary make it an ideal setting for self-reflection and inner peace. 🚶‍♂️ Trekking & Adventure For adventure seekers, Neyyar offers several trekking trails that lead through thick forests, small streams, and breathtaking viewpoints. One of the most popular treks is to the Agasthyamalai peak, part of the Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve, which is believed to be the abode of sage Agasthya. It’s a challenging yet rewarding trek, offering panoramic views of the Western Ghats.

A Must visit place. Place is so serene and eco friendly. Nature at its peak. Safari through a boat ride really worth trying. We may encounter wild animals If you are lucky enough.

Nice place situated near to Neyyar dam. We visited after rainy season so that there was water in the reservoir. There is no lion safari now. It is closed and there are no lions now. Picturesque views. We could able to see parts of hills from agastyarkoodam, kurishumala etc. There were three packages available. We took package-1 which covers deer park, crocodile park, elephants (1 big and 1 young one) and boating for 1 hour at 2900/-. Guides were there inorder to provide the information all the time. Boating was so good with panoramic views. Only 2-3 crocodiles are there in the crocodile park. We have to walk through a small narrow forest path unordered to see the deer park which was nice. We heard from one of the employee that all the lions are dead so that they have to shut down the safari. Earlier at a point, there were 16 male lions and it was difficult to feed them. And there were no profit from the sanctuary also. So one doctor approved for the sterilization procedure which made them infertile. It was a sad story.

Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is a beautiful destination for nature and wildlife lovers. The place is surrounded by lush greenery, a peaceful dam site, and a variety of animals including lions, deer, and elephants. The boat ride is a must-try as it takes you close to the lion safari park and crocodile park. The sanctuary is well-maintained and perfect for a day trip with family and friends.

Thirparappu Waterfalls

Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
I visited Thirparappu Waterfalls without much expectation, but it truly turned out to be a stunning experience. The waterfall is beautiful, and the best part is that you can actually go under it and enjoy the refreshing flow of water. There are separate sections for gents, ladies, and families, which adds to the comfort and safety of visitors. There's also a small but well-maintained children’s park nearby, making it a great spot for families with kids. The area is clean, well-managed, and has bathroom/washroom facilities available, which is definitely a plus. Overall, it’s a hidden gem worth visiting.

One of the best waterfalls nearby Trivandrum. It’s clean and its way spreader, so more people can enjoy at the same time, lack of clean toilets is a disadvantage and also the ticket for packing is 50 for cars and entry is 20. Nice ambience and can be enjoyed with friends and families as well. Changing room are available nearby as well. Also some cloth shops at the entrance provide dress changing rooms, if we purchase something from them, that is also a good option too.

Thirparappu Waterfalls in Tamil Nadu is a hidden gem that's definitely worth visiting. Located about 55 kilometers from Kanyakumari, this stunning waterfall is surrounded by lush greenery and offers breathtaking views. The waterfall is about 50 feet high, and the water flows for about seven months in a year, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and photographers. Key Attractions: Scenic Beauty: The waterfall is surrounded by lush greenery and rocky terrain, making it a perfect spot for photography and relaxation. Boating: Visitors can enjoy boating in the Kodayar River, which adds to the overall experience. (Not available everyday) Swimming: There's a swimming pool for kids and adults, making it a great spot for families. (Not included in the entry fee) Temple Visit: The nearby Thirparappu Mahadevar Temple is a rock-cut temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is a must-visit. Practical Information: Best Time to Visit: June to December is the best time to visit, with pleasant weather and high water flow. Entry Fee: A nominal fee of ₹10 per person is charged, with additional charges for parking and camera/video usage. Timings: The waterfalls are open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Visited this waterfalls recently during the rainy season, and it was truly a beautiful experience. The waterfall was in full flow, offering a breathtaking view of nature’s power and beauty. Due to the heavy water flow, we couldn’t swim or take a bath, but just watching the falls was refreshing and worth the trip. The surroundings, however, could be maintained better, the area was not very clean, which was a bit disappointing. Still, the overall experience was nice, peaceful, and perfect for a one day getaway. The scenic beauty and lush greenery around the place make it a great spot to relax and enjoy nature. Definitely worth visiting, especially during the rainy season! 🌧️🌴

I have Visited Thriparappu Waterfalls recently — and honestly, it’s such a refreshing spot! The place is surrounded by greenery and the view is just beautiful. The waterfall isn’t too high, but the flow is strong enough to enjoy a nice shower under it. Great place to relax, click pictures, and just enjoy nature. There’s a small entry fee of 10 rupees and parking area nearby, plus a few local shops for snacks and tea. It can get crowded on weekends, so going early is a good idea. I will suggest you to visit around 8:30 AM to avoid crowd..Overall, a perfect short trip spot for families and friends This waterfall is just 50 km from Trivandrum International airport and railway station. Also it’s around 50 km from Kanyakumari.

Bathing & Boating: A picturesque pool at the base offers safe swimming for families, with separate bathing enclosures for men and women. Boating is also available. Mahadevar Kovil: A historic, fortified temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, believed to have been built in the 9th century, is located near the falls. Irrigation: Upstream, a weir diverts water from the Kodayar River to supply paddy fields, highlighting the falls' practical importance to the locality.

Thirparappu Falls, just about two hours’ drive from Kanyakumari, quickly became one of my favorite day‑trip destinations. The journey itself is a pleasant ride through lush countryside, and the moment you catch sight of the cascading water, the excitement builds. The falls are a spectacular display of nature’s power—tons of crystal‑clear water plunge into a wide pool, creating a refreshing mist that cools you even on the warmest afternoons. What sets this spot apart is the thoughtful locker facility; Only with 20 rupees you can safely store your belongings and enjoy the scenery without worrying about your bags. The surrounding area is well‑maintained, with shaded benches and a few snack stalls that serve simple, tasty treats. I spent hours splashing, and simply soaking in the serene atmosphere, and every minute felt like pure enjoyment. Whether you’re traveling solo, with friends, or family, Thirparappu Falls offers a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, making it a must‑visit for anyone exploring southern Tamil Nadu.

Mathoor Aqueduct, also known as the Mathoor Hanging Trough, is a remarkable elevated concrete bridge built by Kamaraj for carrying water across the landscape. The aqueduct offers a stunning 1.5-kilometer walkway with breathtaking views of the surrounding valley and river below. Visitors can enjoy a sense of adventure while marveling at the natural water flow over rocks and even take a dip in the river.
Built in 1960s, to make water flow from a hill top to adjacent hill top - viaduct. The beauty is a gushing river flowing in below valley across under the viaduct, Holds a record as the tallest and longest in Asia when commissioned in 1969. Stunning views Will be thrilling once you walk on the bridge from one end to other end -as well very scenic to see the surroundings from that height. The wind also will be strong while walking at that height From the end one can get down through the stairs and see the beauty from below and astonish the height of way you walked a while ago. People with acrophobia may ensure precautions The bridge would be nearly 1 KM long and 115 ft high

It's a unique tourist spot which allows you to walk the length of the water channel and have a mesmerizing view of the greens around. Long weekend traffic and people can get very high in numbers so plan accordingly. If you get down on the other side then the way back up has lots of steps so be mindful of that. There's a small pond below where you can get in and have bath or fun in the water but that too can get crowded. Lots of small shops selling tea/coffee and fruits are there. The humidity is unbearable so wear a wet bandana around your neck and extremely light t shirts or tops/bottoms.

Mathoor Aqueduct is a scenic and peaceful spot with breathtaking views of the river and surrounding landscape. Walking along the aqueduct is a unique experience, perfect for photography. We also bought some fresh pineapples nearby they were sweet and delicious! Basic facilities like toilets and seating areas could be improved, and parking is limited. Overall, a great place for nature lovers and a relaxing visit.

Constructed as a drought relief mechanism for water to flow from one hill to the another. Can walk through the entire stretch on the top of the aqueduct, has stunning view of hills on both sides and a deep view of a river flowing below. The probable best time to visit is early morning or after 4PM, around sunrise or sunset could have the best sky colors. Other times during the day could be exhausting; scorching heat 🥵 and pouring sweat 😓

This is one of the engineering wonders in Tamilnadu. But when we went there, it was under maintenance and were asked to get down, go around and then climb the bridge again to see the aqueduct. Would be difficult for elders to do it. And on the other side, it could be maintained better as there were lot of garbage around. Nevertheless, Beautiful place.

It is also known as the hanging bridge. In the middle of rubber plantation. Very pristine view of the surrounding. Very good place to be with the nature and spend your leisure time. Loved the place very much.

It is a one time visit place If you go that side, There is no water when i visited. Please check before you go there. There are two ways, From the road they will be asking tickets, you can go by side below it and walk upstairs to reach the top(recommend if you can able to walk on the steps) There is a narrow pathway in which it is difficult to cross peoples if you are returning from the middle of aqueduct.
