Josselin Castle is a must-see tourist attraction in Brittany, France. This fairytale castle is the home of the Rohan family and offers guided tours filled with antique memorabilia, formal gardens, and a doll museum. The castle's three round towers overlook the canal, creating an impressive sight.
Beautiful and magical, the castle is well kept and the garden looks magnificent. Such a great surprise for such a little cute village

Our visit to Josselin’s Castle was absolutely delightful! It proved to be a fantastic experience for all ages, offering something engaging for everyone in our family. Exploring the beautiful castle grounds with my wife, our 4-year-old, and our 6-month-old was both convenient and enjoyable. The rich history, stunning architecture, and family-friendly atmosphere made it a memorable outing. Highly recommended for families looking for an easy, enriching adventure!
Jean-Charles M — Google review
We loved Josselin, one of the nicest places we have visited. The castle is in great condition with lovely grounds. Unless you have a guide you cannot visit all of it
Kathryn L — Google review
Have visited a couple of times, gardens are beautiful and views over the canal are fantastic.
Deborah P — Google review
What a lovely little town and castle, as well as gardens. Situated on the Nantes-Brest Canal in Brittany, it is the home of the Dukes of Rohan. Most of the grounds are open to the public, as well as the first floor of the Chateau and part of the basement. A bust by Rodin is in one room and one of the Dukes astride a horse in another (a prep work for a statue now in the Castle of Suscinio). The village of Josselin seems to wrap itself around the Chateau and is a lovely stroll too.
Chris C — Google review
Lovely chateau to visit. Also a lovely village. A must visit.
Keith A — Google review

Lovely castle and grounds to visit! We came as a family in the summer, the castle and house has plenty to look at and see, with activities for the kids. Everything is well kept/restored to a high quality. The grounds offer lots of private paths and things to explore. Perfect places for a picnic. Highly recommended!

Like something from a Tim Burton film, this place is eccentric, quirky and lovely. Staff were extremely friendly and tolerated my woeful French. Well worth the money and a few hours of your time.

Zoo and Botanical Garden of Branféré

The Zoo and Botanical Garden of Branféré is a unique attraction located in Morbihan, set within the grounds of a 19th-century chateau. Initially conceived as a game reserve, it now houses over 1,000 animals living in semi-freedom, including giraffes, monkeys, and wallabies. The park has evolved into a popular destination since opening to the public in the 1960s.
It was one of the best animal parks we have ever visited. The animals all seem so happy and well looked after. They have a lot of freedom too, which is very important. Fabulous bird display with so many. First class. Great day out!
Claire — Google review
Very nice zoo, the enclosures are huge compared to other zoos. Great forest en parks which makes it pleasant even when visiting in summer. It’s not huge but you can easily spend a whole day exploring. There is also a great trampoline park in the forest which is fantastic, don’t miss it. It’s located somewhat at the outer edge of the park.
David S — Google review
This was a really good visit. We went with some family visiting from the UK, and their kids. The bird show was really good...that animals were roaming the park was really nice. No big carnivores here but rhinos and hippos. The penguins were fun. The playpark was excellent as well as the petting zoo. Food on site was really nice.
Dylan W — Google review
The park is large enough to spend a good few hours there. It has many different species of animals and is laid out in a natural looking, environmentally sympathetic way. The enclosures are very open in appearance, allowing you to feel close to the animals. Indeed, some (especially the wallabies) pretty much roam free and can be approached and fed (with the popcorn sold at the entrance). For kids especially there is a small petting zoo where you can feed goats, and the ""Parcabout" - a gigantic overhead rope/netting walkway that you can walk/run/jump/bounce along inside whilst suspended 30odd feet in the air. Great fun! This place is well worth a visit. Put aside a few hours to enjoy it fully. **Came back, 3 years later, and it is still a brilliant day out :-)
D W — Google review
Coming from the UK, I can honestly say this is one of the best zoos I’ve ever visited. It truly deserves all the praise it already gets—and more! We visited just after the French school holidays, which meant the park felt almost empty. Having the place practically to ourselves was an amazing bonus. On arrival, you can buy popcorn at the ticket office for around €2.50, which you can use to feed certain animals throughout the park. This was a fun and unique touch. What really sets this zoo apart is how many animals are free-roaming. It doesn’t feel like you’re just walking through enclosures—it feels like you’re genuinely interacting with nature. That’s something I’ve rarely experienced elsewhere. If I had to point out one downside, it would be the restaurant. For a family of five, it cost around €80 (without drinks), and I felt the portions were on the smaller side. Still, this is only a minor issue compared to the overall experience. The children’s playpark at the end was another unexpected highlight. Both kids and adults can enjoy it, which added even more value to the visit. Overall, I can’t fault this zoo. Despite the pricey restaurant, it’s an easy 5/5 from me. I truly hope I get the chance to visit again one day!
Josh — Google review
Incredible wildlife park. Recent improvements and expansions have made the zoo even better. The animals are well cared for and live in huge natural enclosures. Lots to do for children and a great range of catering. The bird show is not to be missed. Go watch it twice. It's that good.
Adam C — Google review
Really enjoyed visiting here. The zoo is kept meticulously. It is easily the cleanest and best-maintained zoo I've been to. I did find the galettes a bit expensive though, I didn't look into whether there were pic nic areas or not. The penguin enclosure was super-clean, and the underwater viewing was great. The zoo has a philosophy that some animals are relatively free to roam, which is nice. There were loads of wallabies about - many of them with children in their pouches.
Duncan M — Google review
This is not a negative review The park facilities the animals the staff are absolutely wonderful. To be able to sit down and have a meal have a drink watching giraffes is it wonderful experience to stand and have a variety of birds flying over your head virtually touching your hat was magnificent. To have Wallabies, fish, llamas in fact allsorts of creatures eating popcorn out of your hand is an experience that we have never had before. To be able to bring your own packed lunch wine and then sit outside in the park in a very well-kept very spacious picnic area was brilliant however,on arrival to the park things are a little disjointed the fact that a family ticket can only be purchased online as a tourist how would you know?(hence the 3stars) again the buying of popcorn for some reason yesterday you could only book the popcorn online which is the only food at the park allows you to feed the animals and with it being such a tactile environment you want to be able to. As advice, book your family tickets and popcorn online in advance as it is cheaper then relax and enjoy a wonderful experience

It features a pile of red slate blocks with an ancient holly tree growing through them, adorned with flowers and wreaths made of seven times knotted hair. The area contains various shops offering commercial and original items such as natural products and unique trinkets.
Amazing experience at the Door of Secrets! Beautiful story, beautiful decor, great experience to be paired with a walk in the forest itself.

Great and lovely presentation. I won't forget what I got in my hand. Thank you for my lovely friend Stéphanie to show me there. .. Channi from Thailand 😍😊

Better than expected, was really interesting and immersive experience, the English translation was really good. Whole family loved it. Didn't get a ticket by email when I booked online but I had the payment confirmation I used at the desk.

A very immersive experience that teaches you the interesting lore and legends of the area. Translation audio devices are available, don't forget to ask for yours before you go in. High quality experience that I would come back to again.
Jared W — Google review
Excellent animation about the forest and the myth of Brocéliande. The way the spectator goes through is very well organised and it is suitable for both adults and children. The surroundings are magnificent and the staff is welcoming. Also, it is accessible for people with disability or difficulty to stand/walk !

A mythical spot that contains numerous shops to perk your interest and tempt the magical or skeptical side. Some shops are commercial while others are original containing natural items or unique trinkets. At the end of the road is the tourist spot for a tour and legend of the forest. This tour is recommended and gives you great information on the history of the forest before you set out and explore it on your own Like if you agree ✍️

Tombe de Merlin

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Tombe de Merlin, located in the Paimpont forest, is a remodeled neolithic woodland burial site that is believed to be the final resting place of the legendary wizard Merlin. The forest is also associated with figures like the fairy Viviane and the Knights of the Round Table. Visitors can explore various sites related to these famous figures, such as Merlin's tomb, the Fountain of Youth, and the Vale of No Return.
Since I was a child I have been fascinated by the Arthurian legends, and visiting this place was magical for me, not because of the tomb itself but because of everything that surrounds it. However, I would not recommend this site for everyone, as the remains of the tomb are not as "impressive" as other monuments in the region. Yet, if you are a fan of Merlin's story, you will surely be enchanted by the magical aura of the site and the landscapes. The site is not very crowded or difficult to access, the remains are located a few meters from a parking area.
Laura B — Google review
If you go in with the expectations of knowing what this is you will be fine. Is a cool place to say that you've been and the Fountain of Youth is nearby. The nature trails are worthwhile as well. If you are driving by definitely make a stop. I would not go hours out of your way for this unless you are a huge King Arthur fan.
Christopher P — Google review
First off, this is not a French Stonehenge but it is a well worthwhile stop while traveling through the area. Parking is free and caters for a good number of vehicles. There is a forest walk that takes you to the visitors centre experience which is paid for but you can just do the walk and use the toilets. The stones are set in a wooded glade, some horizontal but many standing. There were a few people milling around but you can generally find an angle without showing them for pictures.
Chris S — Google review
The site was easy to find with lots of signs. The site and trails were clean and well-kept. Many signs on the trails tell you the story of the site. I would recommend going to La Porte des Secrets before and rake a tour with a history-teller in the forest to add magic to your experience.
Julie W — Google review
If you're into medieval lore you'll enjoy visiting this site.
Tony S — Google review
Must have been beautiful in the past but was quite disappointing as others have pointed out.

A nice 4km circular walk which covers a calm lake area where we had a lovely picnic, stream, and a mix of fields and woodland. Perfect length walk for a young family. Merlin tomb, fountain of youth a bit of fun for us. 3 stars as the footpath markers were not always there we took a few wrong turns.

Great experience with our young kids. We took the "5 biking" rail-bike for the 2 hours trip and the 4 of us could help biking at the same time. The sight is great between woods and fields. We could enjoy a pause with our own food waiting every body arrived and turned for the return trip.

What a wonderful idea and completely new experience. Enjoyed two thoroughly good half days here in a pleasant setting. The team are all very friendly and helpful and we shall definitely return next season and with a picnic. Thank you everyone for your warm welcome!

A really fun family experience on the 2 hour route - it can be hard to find activities both our teens enjoy as they have different interests (aged 13 and 15) but they both loved pedalling and opening the barriers so we had a great afternoon. All the staff were lovely and helpful and translated all the safety instructions into English for us. Thank you!

physically quite hard Work . Avoid in very hot weather when the rails expand and make it even more hard work, Good choice of local beer and Ice cream in the bar , but they don't come cheap. In July and August the village organise fun Friday night food and music evenings here

The most amazing place. Do not be put off if you think you're not too interested in cars, like me. There is something for everyone. I loved the displays of model cars too. Took me back in time when our kids loved doing those model kits. Would definitely go again. The display is so big, you can't quite comprehend it! Highly recommended and not at all expensive to go in there.
Elaine R — Google review
Literally the biggest car museum I've been to! Amazing collection, totally bonkers section upstairs with all the mannequins, and an in-house cider bar. Totally worth the €15 - would 100% recommend.
Caroline L — Google review
Excellent afternoon spent here, family of 7 adults. Incredible private collection and we were lucky enough to meet the owner. Mr Hummel and some of his own manufactured cars. The whole fleet of vehicles are working usable vehicles. The raving tracks look incredible too and whilst we didn't use these there were cars going round. Something to note, no cafe unless July & August.
Sharon T — Google review
Fantastic museum, lots of rare and interesting cars, the bikes could be better displayed though
Chris K — Google review
6 stars if it was possible. If you are interested in cars the museum has every type, from the first 'Horseless Carriages' to modern famous Formular 1 cars and every type between. The museum is huge, on 2 floors. Expect 4 to 5 hours to see them all.
Ewan B — Google review
Without a doubt this is the best automobile museum that I have ever visited. The room with the 18 Formula One cars in it would be worth the trip alone. There is a huge display of vintage vehicles from around the world. Every room that you can walk into has something that will grab your attention. There is plenty of space to walk around the museum and really enjoy the vehicles. The number of race cars here is unreal, not surprising that there are three tracks outside. They also have rooms with a great number of models which are displayed very well. Upstairs there is a display of years past with models of horses, carriages and workshops among other great things. The wee gift shop here has a huge amount of items worth a look at. You leave through here, up a step and outside to the greenery. I would highly recommend a visit here, especially for those that are racing fans.
Shaun K — Google review
One of the best Automotive Museums I've visited in recent years. There is something for everyones taste here, with room after room of well prepared vehicles, models, engines and parts. The Engine chapel made me laugh, a fun refrence to worshiping the ICE engine, with f1 v10 noises playing instead of an organ. Certainly felt like my own tastes of 80-90s saloons and french tin where well catered for! So much more here though! Not sure how many other collections have a Renault Safrane Bi-Turbo and two Muiras but its all the better for it! F1 collection is way more expansive than just the initial room full of vehicles, great to see carbon brakes, clutch packs, v10 engines and incredible parts you dont usually get much access to! Rallycross track accross from the Museum is good to have a quick look at too, and you can stay in your motorhome/ van overnight, but wouldnt recomend unless you are intending to visit the collection. Gift shop was full of really good models and t-shirts etc, Michel Hommell himself was there too! Real petrolhead nirvana. Half a day would be best to get around everything.

The Sculptured Rocks

Mentioned on

Sculpture
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled along the stunning coastline of Saint-Malo, The Sculptured Rocks is a captivating sculpture garden that showcases the artistic genius of Abbot Adolphe Julien Fouéré. From 1894 to 1907, this remarkable monk dedicated his life to carving intricate scenes from local history into the granite cliffs overlooking the sea. Visitors can easily access this hidden gem by strolling out from Le Benetin restaurant in Rotheneuf, where breathtaking views of Saint-Malo Bay and Cap Frehel await.
Unique attraction with an amazing backstory. Stunning location right on the edge of the rocks. Beware if you take small children as there are precipitous drop offs while looking at some of the sculptures.

An excursion from Saint-Malo is not a bad option if you have seen everything else in the town, especially to walk to the islands when the water is low, and you have free time.
Eleni F — Google review
It's OK but wish someone had told us it's not accessible to someone with mobility problems before we paid our 10 euros. It's interesting.
Kathryn R — Google review
A hidden gem well worth taking the time to visit. Truly beautiful and fun for children and adults.
Stephanie F — Google review
Beautiful place with great views. The entrance was 5€ and you get a brochure with information on the site, which explains its origin and more of the man behind this work. They have a small gift shop too. You have further information inside and nice wooden benches to rest and enjoy the view. Feel free to take a snack with you. The whole visit can last around 30 minutes. The place offers lovely views of the sea and the surroundings. It wasn’t crowded when I visited, which was during the afternoon.
Alexa C — Google review
It’s a small display, located in the most natural of settings of nature. The story behind the rock sculptures is very inspiring. The views and the surroundings are very relaxing and enjoyable. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Worth a visit but don't go via the restaurant and pay £5 you can walk along the coast and see them for free!
Joanna A — Google review
A delightful experience, I think that the entrance price of €2.50 is symbolic, this place is really worth visiting. The view is also very beautiful and a big plus is the beach at the foot of the statues. If you are the type of person who doesn't like crowds, this is the ideal place

The Portes Mordelaises in Rennes is one of the few remaining vestiges of the city's ramparts. Known as royal gates for their role in the enthronement of the Dukes and Duchesses of Brittany, they consist of two gates: a large one for vehicles and a smaller one for pedestrians. Surrounded by two symmetrical towers and a drawbridge, these gates served as a defense system for the city.
Must see when in Rennes; great history
Krissy A — Google review
This felt like the oldest part of the city with visible ruins. Many crêperies & historical buildings nearby.
Evelyn C — Google review
A bit of a walk to get there from the main part of town, and not particularly impressive. At time of writing (April 2025) there was a fence with advertising next to the gate making it hard to take a good photo.

You would never find this place without a recommendation, but it is a gorgeous, welcoming little restaurant with delicious crepes. The staff -- which seemed to be a family to me -- were warm, polite, and forgiving that our party did not speak a lick of French. This little back alley (literally) creperie is surrounded by many busier, happening ones (we joked that this area must be "the creperie district"), but Mordelaises is a true gem.

Parc du Thabor, also known as the "Central Park rennais," is a must-visit in Rennes. Spanning over 10 hectares, this 18th-century park features French and English-style gardens, a botanical garden with over 3000 species, aviaries housing non-native bird species, a music kiosk, and a rose garden boasting more than 2,000 varieties of roses.
A simply lovely place to visit and walk about. A great variety of plants, trees and flowers. There's a children's play area and a super collection of birds, chickens and roosters. The birds kept us captive for a better part of a half hour and the chicken entertained us for another quarter hour .

Parc du Thabor in Rennes, France is truly a delightful escape in the heart of the city. Spanning over 10 hectares, this beautifully maintained park offers a perfect blend of French formal gardens, English-style landscaping, and a lovely botanical garden. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, it’s a serene spot to relax, take a walk, or enjoy a peaceful afternoon. What makes Parc du Thabor special is its charm and diversity. The rose garden is absolutely stunning in bloom, with hundreds of varieties adding color and fragrance to the air. The tall, shaded trees and open grassy areas make it ideal for picnics or simply lounging with a book. Families will appreciate the well-kept playgrounds, and there are even aviaries with exotic birds to admire. Throughout the seasons, the park remains a lively yet calming place — perfect for a morning jog, a romantic stroll, or some quiet reflection. It’s also close to the city center, making it easily accessible and a great break from the hustle of urban life. Overall, Parc du Thabor is a must-visit if you’re in Rennes. It’s a beautiful, peaceful space that showcases the natural beauty and thoughtful design typical of great European parks.

Must visit in Rennes! Come with kids and your family and you'll find a charming French garden with pleasant greenery. In particular you need to visit the birds nest! Try to grab a stick under the surrounding trees and let parrots come up to you. Such a wonderful place to visit in summer time.
Osbern H — Google review
I would have liked to give 4 stars but I think it will make more impact on reducing to make sure this catch the attention. I went to this park on the 29/08/2025 and first of all this is a very pretty and lit park. It’s free to enter and I also found some ducks and chickens I think :) (correct me if I am wrong) as I went to the park and explored then I needed to use the toilet so I didn’t check if there was any other as the Google maps led me to this specific toilet but I wasn’t the only one trying to use the facility. But,I am very disappointed by the fact that the toilet facility is not looked after at all. It looks like it has been clean for weeks. I mean how can you take care of a place you opened for the general public and the tourist alike, then ignore the fact that if you are expecting them to see there and spend time they cannot have somewhere to go and satisfy their humans needs(🚽🧻🧼🧴🪣). At least do some effort. Overall it’s a great park to visit but be mindful of this when planning to go there.

Cute and best park I've been to. It is quite big and colourful with flowers blooming. And you would also find love birds and chickens. Definitely a must visit in Rennes!

The prettiest park I’ve ever been to! I visited around 7-8 pm on a Thursday night (summer)and the weather was perfect for a walk. Château de Châteaubriant, located about 60 kilometers north of Nantes, is a stunning architectural gem that seamlessly blends medieval and Renaissance elements. The castle offers a delightful experience for both adults and children. Visitors can freely explore the grounds, interior areas, and even walk along the walls to admire the diverse ages and styles of its structures.
A wonderful castle in the heart of Chateaubriant. I don’t know if at times you have to pay but I did not have to pay to visit. It’s a really pretty castle to see. Unfortunately, they have something going on when we visited with animation characters spread around the grounds that definitely detracts from the esthetic of the place. Also, when we visited a wall had recently collapsed (mid July 2023) and certain areas were closed to the public. Even with those two negatives I’d still highly recommend a visit.
Chris — Google review
With all my reviews of French places, please accept that I know far too little about what's normal locally and my language skills are almost nonexistent. So: how amazing is it that attractions like this are free here?! The grounds of this chateau were fun to explore, there were a couple of interior areas to look at, you could go up onto the walls and there was a fab interactive digital history exhibit in French and English. There are so many different ages and styles of building in this one structure. You could probably go around everything in an hour, maybe an hour and a half, so it's not a long visit but well worth it. There is also the town to walk into from here and a lovely waterside park just below the chateau.
Caitlin — Google review
A nice castle which you can visit for free, walk around and is nice, but a pity of the renovations being busy at that time. There was a friendly man working around.

Rocks. Impressively arranged. It would make a stage for music. Possibly a stoone age rock concert. But we tend to call these things religious.
Adrian M — Google review
These rocks are open to to viewed 24/7 There is a car park, and a visitor centre. The Visitor centre was not open, but there was a basic toilette which could be used. In the area there is a picnic area with tables where you could eat. There are also explanations of the alignment of the dolmen with the winter solstice, and some audio explanations in English and French. Short walk from the car park towards a wood where the rocks can be seen. La Roche-aux-Fées is the most famous and largest dolmen in Brittany, with a 19.5 meter passage, 6 meters wide and 4 meters high.

Coutances Botanical Garden is a delightful and imaginative park that features different themes each year, such as the recent "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme. The garden offers a riot of colors even in late September and provides peace and solitude for visitors to enjoy. It's well-maintained, with beautiful displays of flowers and bushes set in lush green surroundings. The layout is well-done, making it a must-visit when in Coutances.

These gardens are beautifully kept and there are many imaginative displays and specimens. We have visited many times over the last 25 years. On this occasion we were put off taking our under 2 grandson to the children's area as it had been commandeered by teenagers. Whilst we could have tried asking them to leave we didn't feel up to a confrontation and left them to it.

Zoo de Champrépus is a delightful destination for animal enthusiasts, offering a diverse collection of creatures from farm animals to exotic jungle inhabitants. The zoo features spacious and beautifully landscaped enclosures that provide a comfortable habitat for its residents. Visitors can observe an array of animals, including tigers, lions, giraffes, red pandas, monkeys, meerkats, and lemurs. The zoo's Wild West theme adds an extra element of excitement to the experience.
Coming from the UK, we think this zoo is excellent. The entrance fee was very reasonable, so much parking and a good number of visitors - not so many it feels crowded and stressful (as it would in UK) and not so few it lacks an atmosphere. The food was simple but very good quality and the animals seemed content and well cared for. They all were easily visible and came very close to the glass, the lion even gave us a great Lion King show. The grounds were really pretty and tidy, staff friendly, and it was overall a very pleasant and relaxing visit. I will definitely return and recommend this zoo.

Great Zoo - one of the best I have ever been to. It actually looks like a botanic garden where someone put some animals... beautiful trees, plants... and great animals. Absolutely worth visiting.
Wojtek S — Google review
Superb zoo with tastefully thought out animal enclosures giving the animals space and activity. Plenty of viewing angles and the use of lots of bamboo screens the animals from each other. There's a decent restaurant doing 2 courses for €18 or a simpler place offering panini and frites.
Neil C — Google review
We all agreed today that this is the best zoo we have ever been to. Beautiful surroundings. Very interesting animals. The animals look extremely well cared for. Very relaxing walk around. Enjoyed feeding the goats their popcorn. Really highly recommended for families or even without children. The plants around the place are also beautifully maintained. If you are in the area, dont miss it.

A zoo that has "human size" (not too big, not too small), easy for kids and accessible for strollers and/or people with disabilities. Pricey but it's a zoo... Gotta to feed the animals!!
Pierre P — Google review
Lovely clean zoo, animals look well cared for. Great for children of all ages.
Kate C — Google review
Lovely little zoo. There are a limited amount of animals but the ones you do see you can get up pretty close to (some obviously behind safety glass - lion, tiger, leopard etc.). The operators of the zoo have made the most of the area to make it as fun as possible with areas where you can get in to and feed goats and donkeys, and there are talks from the zookeepers throughout the day at different enclosures. At some points it felt a little like a mini farm but in some way this added to the charm of the place. The playground is nice and there is a lovely area where you can eat. You can also leave the park and get a stamp to get back in if you need to (just a nice touch if you left something in the car) Overall a great day out and our 2 year old loved it.
Billy S — Google review
We stayed near Caen and were looking for a nice place (in the surroundings) to visit with our younger kids. We found a folder about this zoo in our hotel and decided to go. The parking is large and free, the entrance at a decent price and the staff very friendly. You can see more than 300 animals and more than 65 species in a 10-hectare landscape trail! Some parts allow you to walk between the animals and see them closely. The complex also offers an amazing playground for your kids. The whole visit takes around 4h, but you can obviously stay long. A nice place to stop and visit.

Fonderie de Cloches Cornille Havard

Museums
Fonderie de Cloches Cornille Havard has a rich history dating back to the 16th century, with the current foundry established in 1865. The Havard and Cornille families have preserved this ancestral craftsmanship. Visitors can enjoy guided tours in French, English, and German, lasting approximately 30 minutes. The foundry also features a charming shop offering beautifully crafted items, including authentic copper cooking pans.
We received a private tour in English ( only English speakers to show up for the tour slot), and the guide was very good, the tour very informative —not sure what the one star reviewers are complaining about. The price is reasonable, compared with similar tours we’ve taken. The gift shop has beautiful items, most made right at the foundry. Authentic copper cooking pans are not cheap—but there are few more typically French, practical and long lasting souvenirs that you could purchase. The staff were super friendly and helpful—even gave us a great recommendation for a lunch place.

Good heritage and craftsmanship centre. Last here 20 years ago and had to revisit as in the area. Guided tour but was not in English so had text card which was ok but you didn't get any history of the place or details what bells they were making. 20 years ago I'm sure we has tour in English as we were told alot more information and I believe they were making a bell for Chile. Text only told us the basics of how they made bells. Even so we had fun ringing the bells in the courtyard and it was good to see the hectic working workshop. Shop had some nice items and souvenirs. Good to see it was still busy. Perhaps we will be back in another 20 years!
Mark P — Google review
This is a real hidden gem. Short but extremely interesting guided tours over the real bell foundry where they talk about all steps of fabricating a bell. They fabricate all sizes - from tiny souvenir bells to giants to be installed on cathedrals - and it seems they can answer almost any question about them. I highly recommend visiting it!
Albert A — Google review
Wished to visit, but sign saying closed until 16 July, due to a fire.

A hidden gem. One of only two working bell foundries in France making bells for big cathedrals (they supplied the new bells for Notre Dame in Paris in 2013 and the Cathedral in St. Malo more recently). We arrived unannounced on a Saturday afternoon and had an English tour for just the three of us within about 15 minutes during which time we played with the bells in the courtyard. It was amazing how beautiful they sounded. The tour was informative and very interesting - seeing the current commissions being worked on. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit.
John W — Google review
This is a worthwhile place to visit. This is a working foundry that makes 100 bells a year some of them quite large. The guided tour is informal and extremely informative about the history and process of the foundry. Well worth the €8.50 entrance fee.

Museums
The D-Day Experience museum tells the story of the Allied invasion of Normandy in 1944, through exhibits detailing events leading up to the invasion and the historic landing by American paratroopers. The museum also features a flight simulator that allows visitors to experience what it was like to be a parachutist on their way to Normandy.
We have been to many of the D-day museums along the coast, but this was the most informative. I get word blind after reading so many different cations and information in the museums, but this was different. The 3D film is a must see. It explains the whole operation in an understandable way. Also the simulator was great in feeling a flight to the beaches.

This was one of the highlights of our Normandy visit. The D-Day Experience Museum offers a well-curated and very moving look at the D-Day invasion. The C-47 flight simulator was a fantastic immersive experience that really helped convey what the paratroopers faced. The museum also includes a large collection of uniforms, weapons, artifacts, and personal stories — all presented in a very engaging way. One of the standout elements was the Tom Brokaw–narrated film, which provided an excellent overview of the invasion and the human stories behind it. The museum is located right next to Dead Man’s Corner in Saint-Côme-du-Mont — where a Sherman tank was destroyed in front of the building that served as the HQ for the German Fallschirmjäger Regiment 6 (elite paratroopers). This location adds a powerful layer of historical context to the visit. Highly recommend spending time here — it’s an incredibly well-done museum that brings history to life. #DDayExperienceMuseum #DeadMansCorner #NormandyWWII #DDayHistory #SaintComeDuMont #C47Simulator #NormandyTravel

This is a museum you definitely want to visit when you're in Normandy. We did the film, the simulator, and visited the museum. The film is beautifully made and gives a clear depiction of the actual battles during D-Day and the days that followed. The 3D effect is fun, but not very impressive—3D films are a bit out of fashion in 2025. The simulator is well done but rather short. The museum itself isn’t very innovative, but the whole package is well worth it. We spent about two hours here. There’s also a lot you can buy, such as army clothing and even weapons. However, I do wonder if you’ll get into trouble if you try to take these weapons across the border.
Tim M — Google review
Fantastic! There are many one-of-a-kind historical items on display here. That are attributed to certain veterans, many of which became famous due to the band of Brothers series. The museum does a great job of telling the personal stories of the men who fought and died here. The flight simulator is a must in my opinion however I wish I had skipped the 3d movie and spent that time in the museum. If you’re into ww2 history already the movie probably won’t tell you anything you don’t already know. in my opinion it’s for people who don’t already know about the events that took place in Normandy. You could easily spend a day in this museum. Spoiler, Normandy is full of great museums related to the D-Day landings. that are all failed with World War II artifacts. However, this museum combined with the flight simulator really is an experience, and I would put it at the top of the list.
Shawn S — Google review
A great museum — very detailed, with an excellent selection of gifts. The flight simulator, however, was underwhelming. It might appeal to children, but for adults, it’s quite basic, with simple effects and a very short duration. What stood out, though, was the pre-flight ‘briefing’ experience, which does a good job of making you feel like part of the mission.
Thodoris Z — Google review
If you go here after the Victory Museum you will be disappointed. It's more expensive but less well done. The flight simulator is nice but the exhibition is disappointing. Everything behind glass so hard totale pictures.

Great day here and exploring Carentan. Movie was 10/10 Simulator 5/10 ( don't expect too much). The Museum, and shop are FAB! I have never seen so much authentic 1944 /1945 gear for sale, amazing!

We couldn't come to Normandy and not learn something about the D-Day landings. The D-Day Experience was nearest to us, a good drive away, and Utah beach not far past it for a visit afterwards. Definitely pre-book to get the 3D cinema and paratrooper plane simulator experiences nicely timed. The museum exhibits will mean all the more if you have seen the film and experienced the simulator first. The centre is US focused as Utah beach was a US force landing. There is lots to read (in English and French), but all personal, meaningful experiences bringing home the tragic horror of the invasion, lots of jackets, but each one represents a life and individual experience of the invasion. The story of Dead Man's Corner is particularly poignant, especially as the house has not changed since the invasion, shows how the location of the museum and the DMC junction was central to the invasion and presents the German perspective in a tasteful way. Makes you want to know the story of each beach landing. A well put together and thought out presentation of a sensitive if very important world event.

Historical landmark
Situated on the historic site of the 1944 D-Day landing, Utah Beach Landing Museum offers a modern and immersive experience with multimedia exhibits that vividly depict the events of World War II. The museum provides a chronological journey through different sections, starting with German defenses and Rommel's role in constructing the Atlantic Wall. From its curved windows, visitors can take in panoramic views of Utah Beach while exploring a diorama featuring a landing craft, trenches, and a field gun.
Very good museum describing Utah beach defensive preparation and local resistance and American landing. Also the challenge to create and original funding for the museum. Well worth a visit to understand this aspect of the war. Didn't find signposting to the general car park clear at all
Jan C — Google review
Great museum! The installations are interesting and varied, while the exhibit itself is done with respect without veering into the "pathetic" or overly heroic. It's well split into topics of the operations and the importance of Utah Beach specifically within Operation Overlord. Thanks again!
Alexis D — Google review
As interested as I am in WW11 and the Normandy landings, this was poor for me. The museum wouldn't be a patch on the Airborne Museum in Ste Mere Eglise. That said, it is definitely worth visiting and take in how these brave lads fought and died for what we all have today.
Pat S — Google review
Wish we had more time here, but we were with a tour group from Paris and had time constraints. It’s an awesome museum filled with so much history. Such a solemn place filled with so much sacrifice.
K H — Google review
It is a place where sadness and malinchony caused by the heaviness of history strugled me.. but is also a place where man wrote History sacrifying their lives. Be respectful is the minimum visitors can do. The museum itself is very well done, the hangar is the main attraction but also the other rooms are intriguing. This is a must see Museum as all the other museums in the area.

Great place to visit, very profound experience. The beauty and at the same time the historical magnitude creates a feeling difficult to articulate.

A great place to visit. Huge detail in exhibits to evole the DDay landings, the personnel involved and an explanation of the build up to the Landings and how each day unfolded. Very atmospheric - huge credit to all iAllies nvolved. The Allied forces were very brave supported by the French Resistance and Free French. Could easily spend several hours at the museum - stunning views over the beach. A great cafe/ bar worth visitinfg too.

Great Museum wit a lot of history and the B52 is for sure the main attraction 🤩. There is also a lot to see outside the Museum.

Immerse yourself in the picturesque countryside of Normandy on a walking tour, where you can savor a delightful picnic at a traditional cider farm. Traverse the serene Aure River path to reach Bayeux, the first French town liberated after D-Day. Marvel at the rugged cliffs and peaceful villages along Normandy's coast, including a poignant stroll along Omaha Beach with a local guide.
We were on a tour of Normandy and the D-Day Landing. Incredible experience with Charles and Bayeux Shuttle Tours. Pointe du Hoc is a reminder to all of what The Greatest Generation was all about.

Historically it's a great place. However, it's let down by the neglect of the area. Most if not all areas are no admittance. Barriers all over the place. The visitors center has no café/restaurant. Nothing for refreshments after a long cycle in the heat. My poor wife was exhausted. That's just my gripe and as I said, Historically very important.
Pat S — Google review
A place worth visiting even as not of the bunkers are accessible. The main one was still open Andean be accede. Great view from the top.

Visited Pointe du Hoc today and was truly moved. The cliffs, the craters, and the preserved bunkers tell a powerful story of courage and sacrifice. A beautifully maintained historic site that offers a deep and humbling experience. Highly recommended for anyone interested in World War II history.
Bashar K — Google review
Very disappointing. In the name of eco BS, they have let weeds and bushes grow inside and around the craters. it’s a shame! They have put a fence all around the site, making us follow a path. Impossible to walk around the craters Bunkers are closed. We cannot visualize and feel what the soldiers have been through.
Cathy R — Google review
One of the must places to visit. The only place where there are still visible the shelling drops, the fights are still clearly visible on site I was disappointed that many of the places routes were closed, no access to get on top of the bunkers despite the supporting structures. This is something which has clearly changed recently as there are plenty of pictures available online.
Mika K — Google review
Incredible views and powerful history. The craters and bunkers show the intensity of the battle. A must-see to understand the scale of the D-Day landings.
Serena M — Google review
Pointe du Hoc was a German strongpoint atop a cliff that could easily shell the Allied landing beaches on DDAY and had to be taken. US Army Rangers were assigned to the task and scaled the cliff in broad daylight while under German fire. 77 of them would die and over150 would be wounded. It is located adjacent to Omaha Beach. The place is a grassy moonscape due to the intense shelling. Some shell holes appear to be 30 feet deep or more. There are signs that tell people to have respect as "this is a German war grave, too". Not easily accessible for those with mobility issues.

During my recent travels in France, I had the pleasure of visiting Zoo de Jurques in Normandie, and it was a delightful experience! This well-maintained zoo is divided into two distinct areas: the yellow zone featuring exotic animals and the blue zone showcasing more familiar domesticated species. The paths are wheelchair-friendly, making it accessible for everyone to enjoy a leisurely stroll while observing the animals.
Large zoo containing many different species. There are 2 routes but you have to do them both. Wheelchair friendly paths. Large car park just outside the entrance. Entry fee was 20 Euros, not bad considering the cost of having to feed them all. There are 2 white lions and 3 white tigers(Who like to hide in the bushes). There was 2 brown lions but the male died in June 2024. All the animals have lots of space to roam. Too many photo's to upload here.
Ewan B — Google review
We’d not heard of the zoo before but happened to pass the zoo on our way to our accommodation, and decided to visit the next day. It’s by far one of the best zoos we’ve visited and is very good value - especially compared to zoos in the U.K. We were lucky enough to see all the animals, including the Puma hiding. Staff are very friendly too.
Sam A — Google review
The visit to the zoo was quite enjoyable. We spent about three hours here. There are many different animals to see, all of which appeared to be in good health. You can follow two walking routes through the park. There is ample parking available, and the surrounding area is very wooded. The food offerings are limited, but that's not a big issue. There are also demonstrations, though only in French, and not much happened apart from some feeding. All in all, it was a nice experience. The toilets, however, were not of great quality in terms of hygiene.
Tim M — Google review
Great zoo with two walking loops lasting about 3.5 hours. Wide variety of Animals who looked in great condition and the white lion was particularly spectacular. We used a Groupon discount but no family tickets were available.
Ben S — Google review
A perfect day out for the family, lots of animals and they are very well looked after… take a pack lunch the restaurant is slow and expensive but apart from that it’s a wonderful zoo.

We had a wonderful day out here, brought a picnic with us, kids loved it and kept going for about 5 hours, plenty seating options all around the park

Went here while holidaying in France and we were glad we did. The park is very clean and all the animals are well kept and looked after. The park is split into two areas, yellow and blue. Yellow you will find the more exotic animals while the blue you will find your more domesticated animal. Both area's are great to wander round and both are easy even if you find it difficult to walk. Plenty of area's to sit and view the different animals. The price is 18.50euros per adult, a family ticket you are looking at 45euros which is for 2 adults and 2 children. Children under 3 go free, there is a cafe where you can get a drink and a snack or you can opted for a full blown meal in the restaurant. While we were there we never saw a zoo keeper, which I don't know is a good or bad thing as the animals all seemed very contented and all were on display. If you are in the area I would highly recommend a visit as you will enjoy your time here.

The Normandy American Cemetery, situated in Colleville-sur-Mer overlooking Omaha Beach, is a solemn burial ground honoring over 9,000 Americans who lost their lives during the Normandy Landings and subsequent military operations in World War II. The beautifully maintained 172-acre site features a visitor center with films and exhibits, as well as the Wall of the Missing listing 1,557 names. Visitors can pay respects to notable figures like Theodore Roosevelt Jr.
Extraordinary place, absolutely worth a visit. Free parking. Free entrance. 9388 headstones in perfect formation, plus tablets of the 1557 missing. Nice toilets. Quiet and peaceful. Short walking distance to Omaha Beach. Very nice visitor building, with clear and informative and easy to read texts, in French and English. No shops so be sure to bring your own food and water if needed. 3-4 hours would be sufficient to cover the most, except going to the beach.

Such a historical and somber site. I was here 50 some years ago too and the feeling of sacrifice is still as strong as ever. We were blessed with the honor of a wreath presentation on behalf of our group - Team Shelby. It was a short but very significant ceremony that I shall never forget. The French administrators were so welcoming and professional. Not a dry eye as they played the Star Spangled Banner followed by TAPS as the wreath was presented. Interesting note - the water in the reflection pool is dyed black to symbolize the death that occurred in Normandy.

Beautifully kept cemetery. The whole place has so much emotion. It was very busy when we arrived, the car park is huge but it can still be very hard to find a space. Easy access to the beach and bunkers/gun posts from the car park. This is a must visit if you are in the area and interested in the war/D-Day. Overlord museum nearby also worth a visit.

Great place to visit that really instills a sense of honor. When you look at all the grave markers it is really humbling experience. I would recommend a couple of things. 1.Take the time to look at all the maps and information when you first enter near the memorial statue. 2. The reflection pool was beautiful when we went so that is between the information walls and graves 3 I would recommend walking to the right and seeing the views of the water and walking around from that side and looping back

A beautifully kept cemetery and a somber memorial. It is most certainly important to visit to remember all those that fought to give us our freedom today. Must visit if you are in the area and want to remember the sacrifices made during WW2.

A Profoundly Moving Experience at Normandy American Cemetery Visiting the Normandy American Cemetery was an unforgettable and deeply moving experience. Perched above Omaha Beach, this hallowed ground is a poignant tribute to the American soldiers who gave their lives during the D-Day invasion and subsequent battles of World War II. The sight of thousands of white marble crosses and Stars of David, meticulously aligned across the serene landscape, is both humbling and heart-wrenching. The cemetery’s peaceful beauty contrasts starkly with the violent history it commemorates, creating a powerful atmosphere of reflection. The visitor center adds depth to the experience, with its detailed exhibits and personal stories of courage and sacrifice. Walking among the graves, reading the names, and realizing the scale of loss left me with a profound sense of gratitude and reverence. This is more than a historical site—it’s a sacred place that honors the bravery of those who fought for freedom. I highly recommend visiting to pay respects and reflect on the cost of liberty. Bring tissues, and prepare for a deeply emotional journey.

I visited the Normandy American Cemetery in November 2023. Although I had to go through it quickly because it was close to closing time, I was deeply moved by the history and sacrifice of those who fought so bravely in the war. For those wondering where the Niland brothers are buried, their graves are located in Plot F, Row 15. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful — one of them even guided us directly to the site. I highly recommend visiting Omaha Beach and the Overlord Museum before coming to the cemetery. It’s a powerful and emotional experience that brings a deeper understanding of history. Thank you to all Allied soldiers who fought in WWII. Your courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Bayeux is a towering Norman Gothic religious edifice that offers guided tours, including visits to the treasure room and chapter house. The cathedral's courtyard features the famous 'tree of liberation,' illuminated in vibrant colors each night, reminiscent of Niagara Falls. Every other night, a captivating light, sound, and music show is projected onto the tree, showcasing symbols of war and historical events like D-Day.
The first time your eyes see this cathedral, your visual sense will pop. It is such a massive structure in the heart of the City of Bayeux. The stone artisans that constructed this in the 11th century would be proud that their efforts have stood the test of time. I wish I could have ascended the towers. I am sure the views over Bayeux would be unrivaled. See my pictures for interior photos of the Gothic interior.

Magnificent cathedral both inside and out. Has impressive stained glass windows and interesting crypt. My favourite installation is a board running round the outer part of the crypt (mimicking the Bayeux Tapestry) but simply recording history in plain words from Jesus to present day listing significant events, eras and every single Pope with the length of their term ..fascinating
John D — Google review
Wonderful cathedral that’s worth a visit. You may even be lucky enough to hear the amazing pipe organ!! During the summer there’s a wonderful and dazzling light show, inspired by the lush, colourful world of Alain Thomas — a master of naïve-primitive painting. Well worth seeing. Selected nights from dusk to midnight.

This ancient church is so amazing. Bayeux is an amazing town and this church at its centerpiece was a marvelous surprise. There was a seasonal night market I found and shopped for some lovely trinkets and delicious local sausages. Then at around 10pm there was amazing light show on the surface of the church. Just an amazing place. I think my next trip to France will be strictly a stay in beautiful Bayeux.

The Bayeux Tapestry Museum is a must-visit for history enthusiasts, housing a 69-meter long embroidered cloth that depicts the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and the Norman conquest of England. This UNESCO World Heritage site offers visitors a glimpse into medieval history through detailed images and symbols.
Nice small museum containing the tapestry. The audio guide is great, it's interesting and not too long. It also makes sure everyone keeps moving at the same speed, which was great. The upstairs area has some more information and some nice miniatures.

I found my visit to the Bayeux Tapestry Museum to be fascinating. The audio tour was engaging. The rest of the Museum is engaging, and visitors learn plenty of history. PLEASE NOTE: tickets can only be purchased at the door; no tickets are sold online. I visited in August, on a Saturday in the late afternoon, and I only had to wait around ten minutes.

Visiting the Bayeux Museum was an unforgettable experience. The tapestry itself is perhaps the most extraordinary exhibit we have ever seen. The audio guide was excellent and made the story come alive. We felt very lucky to visit on the second-to-last day before the tapestry closed for restoration until 2027.

Nice little museum in Bayeux housing the famous Bayeux tapestry depicting the story of the battle of Hastings 1066.. In fine embroidery detail... Surprisingly how long and how detailed it is.... and definitely worth seeing if in the area.. Entry fee of around €12.. Fyi.. the museum is closing September for refurbishment and the tapestry is coming to London to be displayed Yes worth a visit and certainly take time to explore the town
Mark S — Google review
Great museum to visiting, however it's too crowded. Consider arriving as early as possible in the morning to avoid waiting for hours to enter. Although an audio guide is included, it can't be paused once activated, leading many visitors to rush through viewing a tapestry in about 20 minutes and then leave after. On the other hand, story and details deserve to remain in the main exposition for as long as you want and explore multiple times.
Akim B — Google review
Very detailed audio guide with beautifully explained facts. Beautiful exhibition with ways of life from that times... a definitely worthy experience!
Mihai S — Google review
Big queues if you haven't already got a joint ticket from another of the town's museums. Amazing to see this wonderful art in person. Somewhat spoiled by the man videoing his way along (against the rules!) and the people holding up the line - they could really do with a staff member in the tapestry room to chaperone. Also there was the bonus exhibition of Pixi models, including their rendition of the tapestry. The museum is closed from 1st Sept 2025 for 2 years while a new display space is being built.
Laura G — Google review
Surprisingly good for children. They get their own separate audio guide which keeps it moving, and keeps it interesting. We were out in 30 minutes. The tour could have been longer for adults certainly! The tapestry is incredible, precious, expressive and enlightening. UNESCO listed, as almost 1,000 years old.

Very friendly family business. The model train layout was fascinating. It was an enjoyable trip.
Jeanette G — Google review
The model railway is wonderful - huge, with so much detail - and lots of love has gone into making it. During the visit you have a guided tour session to view the railway, plus the chance to go on a small train around the grounds, and visit the lime kilns. There is a nice cafe and playground on site as well as shop and toilets. As a result we spent more time here than expected and it felt like good value for money.
Helen B — Google review
Perfect spot for children of all ages. The miniature train set up is amazing, built over the last 50 years. The children loved being able to stand on the railing to really see all the detail. A ride on the train was next then some jumping on the inflatable train. Non stop action. We enjoyed delicious afternoon tea as well. Highly recommend a visit.

Family run attraction with excellent model railway layout. Also has limekiln, ride on mini train trip, gardens and onsite cafe.
Colin B — Google review
The sheer size of the set is amazing. It is also interactive and so it is great for kids and adults. The food looks a little expensive, but the quality meets it perfectly. There is a large area next to the restaurant where children can play as well as a large 'bouncy train'. As a family, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Chay J — Google review
Ok but not for model rail enthusiasts. We travelled some distance for this since the advertising suggested a high quality very large layout. I'm sure the flyers exaggerate the size of the layout and what's there is a very simplistic over busy, toy-like layout which you are limited to half an hour to view, much of which is in the dark (pretty lights for sure but too long not seeing much). The layout is a mix of French and German stock and is crammed full static rolling stock and locos as well as traffic jams of lorry's. There plenty of fun features to spot and button activated animations to engage the kids. All in all not terribly realistic but quite fun. The garden railway is also limited to one ride per ticket and isn't all that special. There's not a lot else to see so you could be done in 90 mins without rushing. Fun for kids and reasonably priced but don't travel an hour to see it like we did, expecting a whole days railwaying fun
Mike M — Google review
First of all, the train layout is fantastic. A lot of attention to detail and it looks great. The not so good... Access to the model train building is limited to around 30 mins. You are allowed in as a group and then ushered out half an hour later. The trains only run during this time and you can't stay and watch them. It's a little disappointing when your paying almost €10 to get in per person. The food on site is not good value for money. There are no vegetarian options (even the cheese on toast is pre made off site). It's not cheap and is very basic (assuming they even have the things you might want in stock). The pizza and chips (which is around €10 also), is a mini frozen pizza with around 8 flakes of grated cheese on it. There is a mini train ride which you can also go on once and lasts around 4 minutes. On site, there is a bouncy castle (well, train), the model railway and a mini railway ride to entertain kids... It takes around an hour in total. For a family of 4... We've spent almost €80 here on what I'd probably not want to spend more than €20. The place has potential but just isn't engaging enough for what it actually costs. Would we come again? No. Would we recommend it to others, possibly... But I'd make it clear that the price is far higher than similar attractions considering the amount of time and engagement you have. I wouldn't recommend the food or drink... Even a coffee was €3.80.

This museum is an absolute must-visit. I went in with my fairly basic knowledge of the events of D-Day, and came out with a much better understanding than I had ever expected. The museum is full of projections, models, and artefacts that give clear but still highly detailed accounts of the events before, on, and after D-Day, on all five beaches. I really highly recommend this excellent museum.

Really interesting and informative museum. You can wear a headset and there are information points where you listen to accounts from people who were in Arromanches at the time. The gift shop is excellent too.

Fascinating museum, well laid out and with a real family interest for me as my grandfather landed here in 1944. The views over the remains of the Mulberry port from the museum only add to the ambiance and feeling of history. The audio guides are very good and helpful to understand the importance of this site.

Very nice place with lots of stuff to see. You can choose out of a lot of languages to listen and watch. It was very busy though and I recommend coming early so you can park somewhere.

Updated museum in 2023 detailing the events leading up to D Day and the concept and use of the Mulberry Harbour. Exhibits well presented and good audio guide in many languages. Location in iconic area overlooking Gold beach and the remains of the harbour. Good views from roof terrace . Highly recommended

Never been to old museum so can't compare the two like many seen to do. This was a very interesting place to visit and I learnt some new facts about the harbour design abd construction. Only gripe was listening to an annoying woman talking on her phone - ironically English! Like any museum visit for the true history buff it would be best when quiet 🤫

The whole experience is totally worth the effort to get there. Using local transport as we did. The buses are irregular, you could end up with only half an hour. We had several hours enjoying the exhibition a walk along the front and lunch in a cafe. A local tour could cost 150 euros or more.

Arromanches 360° Circular Cinema is a unique museum experience in Arromanches that takes visitors back to Normandy's 100 Days through a circular, 360-degree cinema. Using nine screens and archival footage from various countries involved in the Allied invasion, the cinema creates an immersive experience, making viewers feel like they are at the heart of the action. The film plays every 30 minutes and offers a powerful portrayal of the historic events.
Loved the Theatre in the Round with such great pics taken of battles in area. And lookout view outside the theater is spectacular. And little art/sculptures of men right there made from washers was quite well done especially the old man sculpture looking at the sculpture of himself as a soldier. The sayings of the veterans there also interesting.

Nine-screen circular cinema on the hilltop overlooking Arromanches. We went to the last showing of the day, and we’re the only ones there. The film is a collaged, B&W, 20-minute story of the battle for Normandy. It is collated from multiple sources - American, British, French, Canadian, and German. It is 7 Euro entrance fee, and there is paid-for parking on the hilltop nearby, where there are some interesting sculptures, WW2 structures, and great views out to the Mulberry harbours. I was sorry when the film ended; it seemed so short! Note us is LOUD at times, so some discretion for sensitive ears advised!

Outstanding short film all original footage. It’s impressive to achieve this scale and quality with such old film. This does not shy away from the horror and devastation. The film explains the huge collaboration effort to build a temporary port. It was in use for 10 months and helped the allies win the European war. The film shows victory was never certain - while Paris was being liberated Rouen still burned. The film shows the human cost. Absolutely worth visiting. In just 20 minutes it explains the loss and scars across all of Normandy. It is a worthy commemoration of a generations’ sacrifice.

A very interesting film showing the history of the surrounding area during WW2 and the Normandy landings. Very reasonably priced and the film was very informative. Access into the place was easy, there were no steps to enter, giving those with mobility limitations an easy entrance. It's mostly standing room only but there is some seating towards the back for those who may need it. After the film you walk through the shop with interesting souvenirs. No cafe here but a vending machine is there. You're better off going down into the town to a cafe or place to eat there. Definitely recommend visiting here. Although I paid on the door, in the summer I would imagine it gets busy so you may want to purchase tickets before you go.

Incredible unbelievable. Not a dry eye after watching this. You feel a sense of pride, bravery, fear and so very grateful for the peace and democracy we all enjoy for us our children and their children.

Full of history from the event of WW2 and if you are visiting Normandy, this is a must visit place. Don't forget to visit the 360 degree cinema.

I’m not sure who thought up this reverse theater-in-the-round conceit, but hopefully they learned from their mistake and never tried it again. Some of the footage was incredibly powerful, but the editing and lack of context made it terribly disjointed. The only way to make it even more disjointed would be to spread it across 9 screens surrounding the viewer. So that’s what they did. Another serious issue: no air conditioning. We went in during a mild day in August, but when you pack 80 people into an enclosed unvented room, it sure heats up fast. It had to be approaching 27 degrees Celsius in there. And did I mention there’s no (or very limited) seating? I’m surprised only a few people left early. Anyone who knows anything about WWII history would be going “WTH?!” And anyone with no knowledge of history would be going “WTH?!” In short, a bad gimmick that dilutes the sacrifice and heroism of the military and local civilians. One last note: Far from impressing on visitors the horror and tragedy of war, the gift shop seems to very much be celebrating the glory of war.

A real disappointment, uncomfortable because you have to watch while standing leaning on an iron bar, streching your neck, moreover the room was extremely crowded. The documentary shown did not add anything to the basic knowledge on D-day which you can get with any documentary. 360 degrees just means that the same scene is shown at different moments on the screens around you, so you will not miss anything if you just watch in front of you. Not worth the price paid and the wait to go in. Moreover the parking nearby was 2.50 an hour. The hill overlooking the town is nice though, and there are some statues and artwork.
