Sights & Landmarks
Masroor Rock Cut Temple, also known as Himalayan Pyramid, is a complex of monolithic rock-cut temples located in Masroor, Kangra Valley. The temple complex features ornate architectural carvings and is built in the shikhara style of classical Indian architecture. Dating back to the 8th to 10th centuries, these sandstone sikharas are hewn from living rock and are rare for North India.
It was an hour long drive from our air bnb in Rakkar, dharamshala. There are two routes, one going via tiara and gaggal road which is steeper and narrower than the state highway 23 road which has gentle slopes and obviously wider than the other but the distance is 9 kms more than the other. So the choice is yours. The place has relics of single stone carved temple. It's beautiful and so calm and serene. Whoever is interested in some history as well as some serene place, should absolutely visit and spend some time, just sitting and enjoying the beauty of nature around you.

On return from Dharamshala to Chandigarh we planned to visit Masroor Rock cut temple. It is a real wonder as temples are built on one Rock just as in Ellora. Though temples were affected by 1905 earthquake but one can see the temple. Restoration work is going on and idols have been kept for worship. However no one is allowed to offer money.
Ranjay V — Google review
A monolithic rock cut temple of around eighth century. The place is not so popular among tourists. The architecture is wonderful and amazing. Although it was damaged by the 1905 earthquake, still what remains is awesome. A must visit for history lovers.

Masroor Rock Cut Temples – A Hidden Gem of Ancient Architecture Visited on: 6th May 2025 On 6th May 2025, we explored one of Himachal Pradesh’s lesser-known but truly awe-inspiring historical sites —the Masroor Rock Cut Temples. Located about 40 km from Dharamshala, this archaeological wonder is nestled in the quiet village of Masroor, offering a rare and mesmerizing blend of history, spirituality, and natural beauty. These temples are believed to date back to the 8th century and are carved entirely out of a single rock, much like the famous Kailasa Temple in Ellora. The complex consists of 15 monolithic rock-cut shrines, primarily dedicated to Lord Shiva, though some also depict Vishnu and other deities from the Hindu pantheon. What’s most striking is the intricate detailing in the stone carvings—though many have weathered over the centuries, the remaining figures, pillars, and facades still hint at the grandeur of the original structure. The temples face the Dhauladhar mountain range, and there's a serene water tank in front that reflects the entire complex beautifully—especially during clear daylight. The site is relatively quiet and uncrowded, allowing you to explore at your own pace, absorb the silence, and marvel at the craftsmanship. There’s a calm, sacred energy in the air, and it's easy to feel transported to a different era. Highlights of Our Visit: - The panoramic view of the snow-capped Dhauladhars from the temple platform was breathtaking. - The cool stone interiors offered a welcome break from the summer heat. - The peaceful ambiance made it ideal for quiet reflection and photography. Travel Tips: - You'll need to purchase tickets online from the website of the Archeological Society of India - Best visited in the morning or late afternoon for softer light and fewer crowds. - Carry water and snacks, as there are limited facilities around the site. - Wear sturdy shoes—some parts involve uneven steps and rocky paths. - Respect the sanctity of the temple area and avoid climbing over fragile carvings. Final Thoughts: The Masroor Rock Cut Temples are a true hidden treasure of Himachal Pradesh. Though not as widely publicized as other heritage sites in India, they deserve much more recognition for their architectural and historical significance. If you're in the Dharamshala or Kangra region, make the time to visit—you’ll walk away with a sense of wonder and deep appreciation for ancient Indian artistry.

The Masroor Temple, also known as the Rock-Cut Temple, is an 8th-century Hindu temple complex located in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. It's a remarkable example of ancient Indian rock-cut architecture, carved out of a single sandstone rock. According to local mythology, the Pandavas built the temple during their exile. The temple complex consists of 15 rock-cut temples arranged around a rectangular water pond, reflecting the intricate carvings in its still waters. The temple showcases North Indian Nagara architecture style, with a central shikhara tower and a sacred pool. The temple is dedicated to deities to Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Devi, and Saura of Hinduism, with sculptures and reliefs depicting various gods and goddesses. The temple complex was first reported by Henry Shuttleworth in 1913 and is believed to have been built between the 7th -9th centuries AD.The temple is located in the Kangra Valley, 43 km from Dharamshala. The temple is open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.the Entry fees I think ₹25 And the Best Time to Visit in this month ie October to February forpleasant weather and festivals.

Peaceful pilgrim place where people come from various parts of India to wish and pray for their goodwill. However the Sarovar is in bad shape and needs a lot of cleaning.
Divyanshu T — Google review
Pandori Dham is not just a spiritual destination—it’s an experience that touches your soul. The peaceful aura, divine energy, and unwavering devotion felt here are beyond words. Every corner tells a story—from the serene sarovar to the murals that bring the Ramayana alive. I felt deeply connected, grounded, and spiritually recharged. The langar, the darshan, and the presence of the 1108 Acharya Raghubir Das ji all come together to create a sense of belonging. It’s a place where time slows down, and the heart feels full. If you’re seeking inner peace and divine blessings, Pandori Dham is a must-visit.
Anuj M — Google review
Pandori Dham is a serene and picturesque destination. The main gate and spacious parking area make it convenient for visitors. The temple's interior is meticulously maintained, exuding tranquility. The temple complex features various sacred spots for worship and reflection. We visited with our family and felt a deep sense of peace. There's also a cave, now closed, which was once used as a passage. It's said to stretch far, even connecting to Haridwar. Outside the temple lies a serene pond with a Shiva idol. We strolled around, enjoyed the park, and spotted peacocks nearby. During rainfall, the place becomes even more enchanting. *Tips for visiting:* 1. Ideal for family outings. 2. Offers spiritual solace and peace. 3. Natural beauty and peacock spotting. Pandori Dham is a haven for spiritual rejuvenation and relaxation.

Very Good Place. But go in the morning. We went in evening and there was no crowd. No people.
Mukesh K — Google review
Pandori Dham's history dates back approximately 500 years, founded by the Ramanandi saint Shri Bhagwanji and his disciple Shri Narainji. It is a significant Vaishnava establishment and part of a sacred network of 52 Vaishnav Dwaras. The temple serves as a spiritual center and retreat, known for its peaceful atmosphere and the Baisakhi fair.

My parents say they are hooked to this place from Generations. So we have got to know this place from family only and we tend to visit twice or thrice a year. Whenever some marriage happens in my family, it is custom to donate bedsheets blanket and pillows here. Reason I don't know but that's what we are supposed to do as told by my great grand maternal mother. So recently we did that. Place is hub to nature. One can easily spot the peacocks here and all the Flora and fauna. The place has alot of importance. They say under guruji one pet dog specifically female dog just ate almost 50 KG opium in front of jahangeer जहांगीर badshah and then That king alloted the whole space wherever that dog went. Lot of parking space is available but the link road as of today was under construction which connects pandhori to national highway. Langar is available nearby 1 to 2PM. Tea snacks will be available from 4 PM. SBI bank and ATM are available here for working days only. One has to bow heads in front of Baba mahesh das ji temple while Coming and going also then only the visit will be completed. Market offers prasad which you can take along to temple. Do come and explore this place. Students cannot come without teachers. People come with newly married couples and get blessings of guruji. People come here to get the names of newly born babies. Visit and enjoy.

Dainkund Peak, located 17 km from Dalhousie Bus Stand, is the highest mountain peak in Dalhousie and a popular trekking destination near Chandigarh. The uphill trek of about 1.8 km from the starting point offers scenic views and leads to a temple at the top. During winter, the peak is covered in snow while in summer, it boasts beautiful green meadows and blooming flowers.
This trek is easy and can be done in half an hour. The scenes from the top of the peak are so beautiful. You can get a full 360° view of the Himalayan ranges. On reaching the top, there is a temple where you can pray and even have darshan of Mount Kailash using a telescope. Very beautiful place. We went when the snow was just about to melt in March.
Gaurav S — Google review
Amazing place to visit for everyone. Very easy trek, harldy 1/2 hr to reach on top. You can spend as much time as you want, you will be in between the clouds at top. There is Temple on top and various shops for snacks. Toilet facilities available. Near temple. We visited in month of September end it was very less crowded and peaceful. Parking available at road side.

Trekking at Dainkund Peak was an unforgettable experience, offering a perfect blend of serenity and natural beauty. As I ascended the trail, a peaceful silence enveloped the surroundings, broken only by the soft rustling of leaves and the distant calls of birds. The path meandered through lush green meadows and dense forest patches, gradually leading me above the clouds. Walking amidst the mist and cool mountain breeze felt surreal—as if nature itself had paused in quiet admiration. From the summit, the panoramic view of the surrounding was breath taking. It was a soul-refreshing journey, where every step brought a deeper connection to nature.

Amazing trek with beautiful panaromic.views.It is highest point of Dalhousie.I would say more scenic and beautiful than Khajiaar. It takes hardly half an hour to reach top from base. Complete the trek to reach Pohani Mata temple. Please seek advice from locals in case of inclement weather
Rohan M — Google review
Trek is easy. First 600 meters of the treck is inclined after that it's easy and the path is straight. Pohlani mata temple is at the peak and you can view manimahesh kailash if there is no fog. And the view is so amazing literally so beautiful. If you're visiting Dalhousie you must go here.

One of the Best Place to visit Daikund Trek if you are planning to go to Dalhousie. It’s a 1.5 km trek. The gates will be closed on 4:00pm. Try to reach early. Must carry your water bottles, you will definitely need it. At the top there is a popular Pholani Devi Temple. View from the top is mesmerising. You will definitely love and enjoy it.

Nestled in the enchanting town of Khajjiar within Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district, Khajjiar Lake is a stunning natural gem that draws travelers with its serene charm and picturesque surroundings. Often dubbed the 'Mini Switzerland of India,' this mid-altitude lake is embraced by lush meadows, towering cedar trees, and majestic snow-capped mountains, creating a breathtaking landscape reminiscent of European vistas.
"Mini Switzerland of India" Dense forests, huge meadows, and a lake in the center. It is a 21 km curvy ride through dense forests to the lake. The moment you reach Khajjiar, it compels you with its beauty. Beautiful green meadows, covered by forest, and a lake in the center make the place vibrant, enhanced by vendors and tourists. It is a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. #MiniSwitzerland #Khajjiar #HimalayanBeauty #TravelDiaries

Khajjiar Lake is situated in the middle of Khajjiar Valley. This is a small lake with lots of fishes. When we visited the lake most of the lake was covered with water grass. I think this lake need more maintenance.
Aniruddha D — Google review
Nice place. Much commercialized, but the beauty is superb, in the winters, when I got to see the frozen lake, making the place all white. I could only imagine, how much beautiful, it would be, if the place is remote with very less people. That would be gem in the middle of the forest. But the place is very much in demand, with lot of people visiting here & lot of business, activities, selling of products, etc going on. Resulting in lot of vehicles, traffic, mud, jams, horns, which takes away some of the serenity & beauty of the place. But, even then, a frozen lake is beautiful, which you mesmerize most. The place is, though quite clean, even after so much of human activities going on. Worth a visit. Share your like, if the review is appreciated, for it would mean that it is helping others out there exploring.

Khajjiar Lake is a beautiful place with green forest all around. Best place to spend some peaceful time with friends and family.

Visiting Khajjiar Lake in Himachal Pradesh was an enchanting experience that left me awe-inspired by nature's beauty. The moment I reached this picturesque location, I was greeted by the breathtaking landscape of lush green meadows, surrounded by towering deodar trees. I took a peaceful stroll around the lake, absorbing the tranquility and enjoying the cool breeze that gently caressed my face. ->For adventure seekers, there were options for horse riding and zorbing, which added an extra dose of excitement to the visit. -> Highly recommended for those seeking solace amidst nature's wonders! 🏔️🚶‍♂️📸
Vartika P — Google review
I visited Khajjiar shortly after the monsoon (one of the best seasons to visit). It is a sprawling green meadow with a marsh lake in the middle and surrounded all around by deodar trees. There is a cottage run by Himachal tourism situated right in the meadow (the iconic photo that you see when you search Khajjiar in Google), where you can book your stay through the Himachal tourism website. It was lush green and the weather was pleasant in September. The good thing about Khajjiar is that it's not overcrowded (yet). There is so much fresh air and tranquility. You can take a good walk around the perimeter and then sit on a bench and enjoy the view how much ever you want. This place is a great escapade from the noise and crowd of the city.
Nazneen S — Google review
Khajjiar which is also known as Mini Switzerland truly lives up to its name. This majestic place is a must visit place in your lifetime. There are hardly any places like this in india other than Kashmir Doodh Pathri. I visited this place multiple times but every time this place feels special. Visited this place 9 months back too.

Nestled in the picturesque Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is a serene haven for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. Located just 10 km from Dalhousie, this sanctuary boasts an array of wildlife, including bears and leopards, along with a vibrant bird population. Established in 1958, it has become one of India's most cherished wildlife sanctuaries. Visitors can explore scenic trekking trails that wind through lush greenery while soaking in breathtaking views.
Good place to spend peaceful time. You can sit here, eelax and enjoy beauty of nature. A true place for nature lover. If you want to spend a night here there are many home stays. But remember one thing mobile network here is very very weak and signals come only in some places. You can do a treak of around 3 km which is very easy normal walking, or you can come by car. There are many shops to eat snacks like Maggie, veg pakoda. And there is adventure park also but prices are high. Overall a very good place to enjoy.
Abhishek J — Google review
I visited Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, and honestly, it wasn’t what I expected. The 3 km uphill drive/walk was scenic, with a peaceful forest vibe, but I barely saw any wildlife along the way. The entry fee was ₹50 for bikes, which seemed reasonable, but there wasn’t much to explore once inside. If you’re looking for fun activities or major attractions, this might not be the place for you. The area felt completely deserted—I didn’t come across anyone else during the entire stretch, which made it a bit eerie. While the natural setting is nice for a quiet walk, I wouldn’t recommend it for those expecting an exciting experience.
Raj H — Google review
It’s about a 6 km round-trip walk from the starting point. You can pay at the gate and bring your own vehicle into the sanctuary; it costs 50 INR for a two-wheeler. However, I would recommend walking through it. It’s scenic, quiet, and beautiful, with tall trees on both sides, green fields, and plenty of photogenic spots.
Sarthak G — Google review
Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary – A Quick Take Just 6 km from Dalhousie, Kalatop is a peaceful, pine-scented escape perfect for nature walks and light treks. The sanctuary is home to deodar forests, Himalayan black bears, barking deer, and rare birds—though actual wildlife sightings can be rare. Scenic, clean, and quiet, it’s ideal for a half-day getaway. Don’t expect safari thrills—this is more about serenity than spectacle. Entry fee applies; roads can be bumpy but manageable.
Dr.Sneha P — Google review
Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary was quite disappointing. The narrow road leading up is in poor condition, and driving there is challenging since personal vehicles are allowed. This often causes traffic jams on the steep and tight roads, making the journey stressful rather than enjoyable. The entry fee of ₹200 with personal vehicle doesn’t feel justified, as there’s very little to see inside. I didn’t spot any animals during the visit. There’s just a small forest rest house from 1925 and a few spots to sit. The only highlight is the lovely hill view, where you can enjoy pakoras and tea at a rooftop viewpoint cafe. Overall, you can easily skip this spot unless you just want a quiet place for mountain views. It doesn’t offer much for the entry fee or the effort to reach there.
Jayesh G — Google review
It is just beautiful place. To reach you have to drive a dangerous road but it is adventures. In June it is a cold and clean place. There is no wild animal. No zoo

Kalatop wildlife sanctuary located almost 4km from Lakadmandi and almost 12km from city centre !! There was not good route to reach their in rainy season whole road was filled with mud !! And u can reach their by own vehicle , rented taxi or cab !! U can reach there by walk as well but u need to walk almost 1 hour !! Its peaceful place !! No ticket required for entry or neither for parking !! Plenty of cafes are there !! Overall good experience!! And last thing there was not a single animal there !! Its just gemic to catch attention of tourists
Kavish S — Google review
Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is situated near Dalhousie. You need to take local union cars to visit there. Small car fair 1200 and 1600 for suv. At the hill top there is a Forest Rest House which was made by British in 1925. Beside that a green lawn surrounded by huge pine forests. Also there are few small resturents run by locals and a small adventure perk. While visiting Dalhousie one can easily skip this place, as the place is not worthy so musc except the road. But in winter when this place is totally covered with snow then the place worth visiting more.

Complete breathtaking views of lake, during sunset , offers a lot of activities to do such as camel ride and boating etc that was very fun,, local market and restaurants were good too, you should definitelt visit.

This is a massive and majestic lake with lots of fish but, somehow, very few birds in and around it. The scenic beauty is worth your while but the immense noise pollution created by the dhabas playing loud music and the deafening loudspeakers from the temples around, spoil the peace and prevent this place from becoming a must go destination. Add the littering by the rowdy crowds, and you have a perfect disaster of a picnic spot. However, I managed to click photos of a few resilient birds that have still managed to stay on, despite the human efforts to destroy this nature's beauty.

🌅 Sunset vibes + Nature + Fun = Perfect Day Out! 🐪🚣‍♂️ Just visited this hidden gem near Jammu and honestly… mind = blown 🤯! From breathtaking sunset views to camel rides and boating, it’s a full-on fun package! The lake in front of majestic mountains is straight out of a painting 🎨. Boating here is super chill — Rs 200 for 4 people for 30 mins, and you can feed fishes & turtles, plus there are a few birds hovering around 🐟🦆. Also found an old historic mandir nearby which adds that spiritual touch 🙏. The local markets & restaurants are fun to explore — snacks, local vibes, everything! 🍲🛍️ Best time to visit? August to March. We were there from 7 AM to 5 PM, and trust me, the vibe changes every hour — sunrise, day, sunset… pure magic ✨. Nestled in the serene landscapes of Patnitop, Naag Mandir Patnitop is a captivating ancient temple dedicated to the revered snake deity, King Cobra. With a history spanning over 600 years, this wooden structure has weathered time yet remains a significant spiritual site for devotees who gather here annually on Nag Panchami to pay homage.
Very nice place to visit if you go to Patnitop I like to suggest some think if you're going Patnitop 1. From Katra you will find many people and agency that will help you out but You can also ask directly connect from driver there just ask anyone where you can find car stand its near Katra bus stand Important - The price from Katra to Patnitop 5 seater car is around 2600-3000 (Round Trip means it will show you all the spot in Patnitop and Drop back to Katra ) most important here your bargaining skill will help you out. Ask for Driver ID take photo of his car and no. Plate for safer side they will ask you the advance mostly 500 rs So you have also right to ask his ID Proof 2. There you will find a set of Overcoat with shoe if you like you can rent it around 200-250 rs otherwise carry one overcoat ( bargaining skill again ) 3. In Patnitop there is only snow to look and the nature view that's why don't expect most. You can find Snow Sledge ride they will ask you around 500 rs per person here you have to use your bargaining skill again Carry Cash to avoid headache and go there in morning to avoid any issue

Visiting the Naag Mandir in Patnitop was a spiritually uplifting and serene experience. This ancient temple, believed to be over 600 years old, is dedicated to Naag Devta and holds deep cultural and religious significance, especially among locals. Nestled amidst the beautiful pine forests of Patnitop, the temple offers stunning natural views and a peaceful atmosphere that makes the visit even more special. The temple structure is simple yet sacred, and the positive energy around it is truly calming. What I found most touching was the devotion of the locals and the fact that this temple is still very actively worshipped. It is especially crowded during Naag Panchami, when thousands of devotees come to offer prayers. If you're visiting Patnitop, I highly recommend stopping by this spiritual gem. It’s not just a religious site, but a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature. A perfect blend of devotion, history, and natural beauty. Jai Naag Devta!

It reminded me of the Hadimba Temple in Manali. It doesn't have a luxurious appearance, but its simplicity reflects the humble nature of the mountain people. Surrounded beautifully by pine trees, the temple exudes a serene charm. A new concrete structure is still under construction, but I preferred the older one.

The temple on the lap of famous hill station of jammu & kashmir, patnitop. the temple is is almost 600 years old made by good and strong woodan material. During the Nag Panchami Festival, it sees hundreds of Shiva devotees, who throng to this temple to pay respects and worship the snake King Cobra. Standing amidst lush green surroundings, the temple is not only a significant religious center for the area, but also a site which leaves its visitors fascinated by the sceneries around.

Bagh-e-Bahu, also known as Bahu Bagh, is a popular park in Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir. It is a well-maintained and spacious park with limited food options and ample open areas for children to play. The center of the park features a crown-shaped fountain and stairs, making it an attractive spot for visitors. Additionally, the park offers various selfie points and a water fountain show after 7pm.
One of the best picnic points in Jammu. Local people also used to visit the park for day outing. The park is big and well maintained and cleaned. There are some limited food points. Lot of open area for children’s and you find some slides too. The best attractive place is center of park which has crown shaped fountain and stairs in background. People used to visit center but believe me there are good place to send and enjoy behind park. Lots of selfie points created all around the park. The entry ticket is only 10 rs per head.

This garden is located at Bahu fort. Garden maintenance is ok. Could be improved. One can view Jammu city from the garden deck. There is a musical fountain with lights that starts only after sunset. As we were not aware of it we missed it.
Travel_Heals_Mind — Google review
Park is well maintained, but non accessible for specially a led people. Musical fountain staff are fraud, there is a big problem with power disruption and they do not have any backup. Staff runaway once power is gone. No refund, be careful with this.

Ranbireshwar Temple is a prominent Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in 1883 by Maharaja Ranbir Singh of the Dogra dynasty, it’s one of the oldest and most revered temples in the region, named after the ruler who commissioned it as a mark of his devotion to Shaivism. The temple houses an impressive 7.5-foot-tall black marble Shiva lingam, one of the largest in North India, symbolizing Shiva’s cosmic presence. Surrounding the central lingam are 12 smaller lingams made of crystal. The temple boasts a towering 75-foot shikhar (spire), a hallmark of North Indian temple design with Dogra influences. The interior features vivid murals of Shiva-related mythology and Ramayana scenes on its walls and ceilings. Alongside Shiva, you’ll find statues of Ganesha (his son), Kartikeya (another son), and Nandi (Shiva’s bull), enriching the sacred space. This temple is a spiritual hub, especially during Maha Shivratri, when devotees flock here for prayers, offerings, and chants of "Om Namah Shivaya."

Akhil P — Google review
This centuries old temple stunned me with its beautiful architecture. Taking photos were not allowed inside the temple complexes but the design of the temple shikharas (spores) reminded me so much of the traditional temple design predominant in East Bengal (the areas in today's Bangladesh). Maybe the rajput lineage of architecture had been carried to Bengal. During medieval times, Rajput generals and nobles were often employed by the Mughal Empire and historically many Rajput personalities have attacked Bengal at the head of major invading armies. India is fascinating country, with history peeling out at you from everywhere. But only if you are careful and patient in looking for it. The area just outside needs to be cleaned up and encroachments removed.

I visited on May 29, 2025. The tulip garden was completely dried up, which was really disappointing. The condition of the washrooms was very poor, and the one near the bus stop was charging ₹10, which felt unreasonable given the lack of cleanliness. The zipline was also closed without any notice. Honestly, I don’t understand why this place is still being promoted as a tourist spot when the basic facilities are so poorly maintained. The only positive thing I can mention is the natural beauty of the surroundings — but apart from that, the facilities are close to zero.

Cave containing a manifestation of the Hindu Mother Goddess & leading site of pilgrimage.
Vaishno Devi Mandir is a truly divine and peaceful place. The spiritual atmosphere, scenic beauty, and overall experience are heart-touching. It's well-maintained and organized despite the heavy footfall. Everyone should visit at least once a year to feel the divine energy and connect spiritually. Highly recommended for those seeking peace and blessings.

Vaishno Devi is a prominent Hindu pilgrimage site in Jammu and Kashmir, located in a cave shrine atop the Trikuta mountain. It is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Vaishno Devi, an unmarried form of Mahalakshmi, Mahasarasvati, and Mahakali. Pilgrims travel to the shrine, which is managed by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, from the base town of Katra, a journey of about 13 km. I was in this temple with my friend. Mother will provide peace, prosperity and good health to the devotees.
Dr D — Google review
Visiting Mata Vaishno Devi was a truly divine and unforgettable experience. This was my first time going through the Tarakote Marg, and I must say it was a wonderful choice. The entire path is very calm, clean, and beautifully surrounded by nature. Walking through the peaceful route with greenery and mountain views gave a deep sense of positivity and devotion. The arrangements along the way were also good — resting points, clean washrooms, and food facilities were easily available. The environment was safe and well-maintained, making the yatra comfortable for families and elderly people as well. Reaching the holy Bhawan and having darshan of Mata Rani was an emotional and spiritual moment. The chants of “Jai Mata Di” echoed everywhere, filling the air with divine energy. It truly felt like all worries disappeared and blessings showered upon us. Overall, it was a peaceful and heart-touching experience. I will always remember this first yatra through Tarakote Marg — full of faith, nature, and serenity. Jai Mata Di! 🙏
YOGESH J — Google review
From the outset, the yatra to Vaishno Devi leaves a strong impression. The trek path, winding through scenic hills, sets the tone for a pilgrimage, rather than a quick visit. Reviewers commonly mention the powerful spiritual atmosphere, the devotion of pilgrims around you, and the sense of uplift you get upon reaching the Bhawan. For many, making the trek on foot adds to the sense of accomplishment and connection with the shrine. The natural setting - hills, green patches, the uphill climb - adds to the feeling that this is more than just a temple visit, but a journey of faith.
Vishvesh P — Google review
The Vaishno Devi Temple, nestled amidst the serene Trikuta Mountains in Jammu and Kashmir, is one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites in India. Every year, millions of devotees undertake the sacred journey, known as the Vaishno Devi Darshan, to seek the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi, an incarnation of Goddess Mahalakshmi. The temple is located at an altitude of about 5,200 feet above sea level, near the town of Katra, which serves as the base camp for pilgrims. The journey to the shrine is not just a physical trek but a deeply spiritual experience filled with faith, devotion, and a sense of divine connection. The pilgrimage begins from Katra, where devotees register for the yatra and receive a yatra slip, which is mandatory for visiting the temple. The trek to the holy cave, around 13 kilometers long, can be completed on foot, by pony, palanquin, or via helicopter services up to Sanjichhat, from where the final stretch is covered on foot. Along the way, pilgrims chant “Jai Mata Di” with great enthusiasm, creating an atmosphere of devotion and energy. The path is well-maintained, with resting points, refreshment stalls, and medical facilities, ensuring the comfort and safety of visitors. The entire route is beautifully illuminated, especially at night, offering a mesmerizing view of the surrounding mountains. The temple itself is located inside a sacred cave where the Goddess manifests herself in the form of three natural rock formations, known as the Pindies, representing Mata Mahakali, Mata Mahalakshmi, and Mata Saraswati. These three forms symbolize the combined powers of strength, wealth, and wisdom. Unlike idols or images, these Pindies are naturally formed, which adds to the mystery and sanctity of the shrine. The atmosphere inside the holy cave is serene and filled with divine energy, making the darshan a spiritually uplifting experience for devotees. Another sacred spot along the route is Ardhkuwari Cave, also called Garbhjoon, where it is believed that Mata Vaishno Devi meditated for nine months before finally emerging to slay the demon Bhairavnath. After visiting the main shrine, devotees often continue their journey to the Bhairavnath Temple, located about two and a half kilometers away. It is said that the pilgrimage remains incomplete without paying homage to Bhairavnath, as Mata Vaishno Devi had granted him forgiveness and blessed him that her devotees would visit his shrine after hers. The Vaishno Devi Darshan is not only a journey of devotion but also a celebration of the spirit of endurance and unity. Pilgrims from all corners of the world, regardless of age, gender, or background, come together in faith and humility. The divine aura of the shrine, the chanting of hymns, and the breathtaking natural beauty of the Trikuta Hills make this pilgrimage a truly transformative experience. Whether one undertakes it for religious reasons, spiritual growth, or inner peace, the Vaishno Devi Yatra leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of all who complete it, reinforcing the eternal belief that where there is faith, there is the presence of the divine.

Sinthan Top is a stunning mountain pass and a popular tourist destination, accessible only in the summer months. Located about a 4-hour drive from Srinagar, it stands at an impressive 12,000 ft above sea level and serves as the starting point for various trekking routes to the upper region. The area is often covered in frozen ice throughout the year and may experience snow even during the summer if it rains.
A serene, offbeat gem in Kashmir. Expect breathtaking panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and valleys. It's less crowded than popular spots, offering a tranquil experience. Great for photography and some adventure like trekking and snow activities when accessible. Be prepared for potentially challenging roads and limited facilities. A must-visit for those seeking natural beauty away from the crowds. They allow entry before 2.30 pm...

Positives : 1. Scenic Beauty: “Breathtaking views all around. The drive to Sinthan Top is an experience in itself!” 2. Peaceful and Serene: “Unlike other crowded tourist spots, this place feels untouched and tranquil.” 3. Great for Road Trips: “One of the most beautiful drives in Kashmir. The winding roads with snow walls on both sides are magical.” 4. Snow Even in Summers: “Visited in May and still saw snow! Kids loved playing in it.” 5. Offbeat Destination: “Perfect for those who want to avoid mainstream tourist places and explore hidden gems.” Negatives : 1.Poor Road Conditions (seasonal): “Roads can be rough and risky, especially during early spring or winter. Drive with caution. 2. Limited Facilities: “No proper food or restrooms available. Carry your own supplies.” 3. Connectivity Issues: “Mobile networks were weak or unavailable at the top.” 4. Weather Can Change Quickly: “Clear one moment, foggy and cold the next. Carry warm clothes regardless of the season.” 5. Visited in June 2024. It is a mountain pass and a popular tourist destination. Around 4hrs one-way drive from Srinagar. It is a starting point of many trekking routes to upper region. The location has frozen ice most of the time around the year and will snow even summer time if it rains. Moreover, the view during the drive up to the Top is wonderful. But it is not a proper spot for children. If you don't bring own warm cloths, then you can rent on the way and also on the top. However, check carefully and bargain. They tend to give faulty jacket and other items. Also you can find snow-jets for rent and they will take you little higher than the normal area. But the cost is too much high.
Mahbubul I — Google review
This view point is located at 12000ft high from sea level. Covered with snow at mere places even in June. Adventure activities like snow bike, sledging are available with higher cost. Wearing snow jackets, gloves and boots which are available in rental basis are advisable to enjoy the climate prevailant there. Worth visiting once in a lifetime.

Sinthan Top is a high mountain pass situated at an elevation of about 3,748 meters (12,300 feet) in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It serves as a crucial link between Kishtwar and Anantnag districts, providing a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding Himalayan ranges. 🥶⛄️ The pass is characterized by its pristine natural beauty, with lush green meadows, dense forests, and clear blue skies. 🌨️It is a popular destination for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers, offering opportunities for trekking, hiking, and photography. The road to Sinthan Top is known for its sharp curves and steep climbs, making the journey both challenging and exhilarating. In the summer months, the area is accessible and attracts many visitors looking to escape the heat of the lower regions. During the winter, heavy snowfall often blocks the pass, adding to its rugged charm. Sinthan Top remains relatively less commercialized compared to other tourist spots in the region, providing a serene and unspoiled environment for travelers.

Nature & Parks
Mughal Garden Achabal, located in Anantnag, is a serene and less crowded botanical garden with well-maintained lawns and a diverse range of trees. Despite some maintenance issues like defunct fountains and damaged buildings, it remains a soul-soothing destination for families and friends.
Among all the popular Mughal Gardens this seems the the best among all in terms of exquisite beauty and having most no. of old Chinar trees. Springs are functional unlikely the other gardens. Comes on the way to verinag from pahalgam Well maintained by Government authorities Entry fee is Rs.30 per indian national. It is a must see if you are in the vicinity.

**“Achabal Garden is an absolutely beautiful spot adorned with vibrant flowers and towering Chinar trees. The garden’s charm is enhanced by the serene spring water that flows throughout in three streams… It’s truly an incredible place to relax and appreciate nature.”** *Beautiful laid out Mughal garden. Best among all the Mughal gardens… Terraced garden with water flowing in the centre… Lots of Chinar trees and so plenty of shade. 💡 Visitor Tips Best seasons: Spring to early autumn (April–October) offers lush blooms; autumn brings stunning chinar foliage . Ideal visit duration: Around 45 minutes to an hour is ideal to explore terraces, fountains, and take in the scenery . Entry details: Nominal ticket (₹10–₹25). Open roughly 8–9 AM to 7–8:30 PM daily . Family‑friendly: Safe and relaxing, though vigilance is required around water channels for small children .

Beautiful garden but needs better care... Achabal Garden is a truly beautiful and historic place, with lovely natural surroundings and flowing springs. However, the water is very dirty and the garden as a whole needs proper care and maintenance. Visitors also tend to litter.. especially with plastic, which spoils the charm of the garden. Strict laws and better upkeep are needed to preserve its beauty.

Spend ur last day of Pahalgam by visiting here. U will love the place. Calm yet lively. Natural and beautiful. The loudness of water streams makes stones of the park alive. It’s not the noise of water but the voice of the garden. Garden made in 4 steps as represents Mughal architecture. Waterways devide the entire garden very sophistically. Best thing is that u will not find any tourist here. Most of the locals visit this place. Waterways have swift water flow so be careful for ur children and for urself. And don’t be in hurry else u will not be able to have a conversation with Theo’s beautiful garden. Please keeep it clean.

Achabal Garden is one of the most beautiful Mughal gardens in Kashmir. The terraced layout, flowing spring water, and huge chinar trees make it a peaceful and refreshing place to visit. It’s less crowded compared to other gardens, so you can really enjoy the calm atmosphere. The water channels and fountains are soothing, and the garden looks especially magical in autumn when the chinars turn golden. Entry is reasonable, but maintenance could be improved in some areas (especially dustbins). Overall, a must-visit spot near Anantnag for history lovers, families, and photographers.

Origins & Architecture Built around 1620 AD by Empress Nur Jahan, later remodeled by Jahanara Begum between 1634–1640, Achabal follows the classic Persian Charbagh layout adapted to its hillside topography. Originally spanning multiple terraces, today it comprises three levels, with water cascading from an underground spring atop the hill through engraved water ramps known as chadars, creating beautiful water features and fountains. Sacred Spring The garden is nourished by an underground spring, believed to be a re-emergence of the Brengi River, which vanishes in Dewalgam and resurfaces here, a unique hydrological phenomenon. Early visitors tested this by releasing chaff at the disappearance point, which reappeared in the garden’s spring. Described as issuing “with violence, as if from the bottom of some well,” its cold, abundant water formed a majestic waterfall and sheet cascade in the central terrace. Restorations & Public Access After falling into decay, the Garden was partially revived in the 19th century by Maharaja Gulab Singh during the Dogra era; today it operates as a public garden offering historical ambience and scenic beauty. --- 🌳 Design & Features Terraces & Water Channels The garden is laid out on three terraces. A central axial stream with fountain basins cuts through them, flanked by side channels and chadars that connect levels with water flowing over decorated stone ramps. Architectural Highlights Includes baradari-style pavilions, a two-story balahdari that straddles the central pool, and ruins of a Mughal-era hammam (warm water bath). A mosque attributed to Prince Dara Shikoh also stands within the premises. Natural Elements Ancient Chinar and deodar trees, manicured flower beds, and seasonal blooms (roses, marigolds, tulips) enhance the garden’s charm—particularly stunning in spring, summer, and autumn

We had a wonderful time at Achabal Mughal Garden. It was a peaceful and refreshing experience with my family. The flowing springs, ancient chinar trees, and well-kept terraces created a serene and royal atmosphere. It truly felt like stepping back into history. A perfect place for a relaxing day out!

A Slice of Heaven on Earth – Betaab Valley, Pahalgam Betaab Valley, also known as Hajan Valley, is truly one of the most breathtaking places I have ever visited. Nestled between the snow-capped mountains and lush pine forests, this valley is a perfect blend of natural beauty, serenity, and cinematic charm. It's no wonder it was named after the Bollywood film Betaab that was shot here. The crystal-clear Lidder River flowing through the valley adds a magical touch to the already stunning landscape. The green meadows, surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks, create a picture-perfect view that feels straight out of a fairy tale. Whether you're a nature lover, photography enthusiast, or simply looking for peace, this place will not disappoint. There are plenty of open spaces for children to play, couples to relax, and families to picnic. Horse riding and traditional Kashmiri attire photoshoots add a fun and cultural vibe to the visit. Accessibility is good, and the area is well-maintained by local authorities. The fresh air, the sound of the flowing river, and the panoramic views make it an unforgettable experience. A must-visit spot if you are in or around Pahalgam!

Barwalla Waterfall is a visually striking spot located near the Summal Power Grid in Kangan. However, it's important to understand that this is not a natural waterfall—it is actually the overflow from the power grid, which can be extremely dangerous. The area has witnessed sudden surges of water, especially during peak flow or rainfall, and people have been trapped in the waterfall zone during such incidents. Despite its beauty, entering the waterfall or trying to get too close is strongly discouraged. There are no safety sirens or barriers in place, so awareness and caution are crucial. Heroism or thrill-seeking can be fatal here. The water current can intensify without warning, making it extremely unsafe. The best and safest view is from the opposite side of the waterfall, where you can enjoy the full scenery without putting yourself at risk. It’s a good spot for photography or a quiet nature break—just from a safe distance. Pros: Beautiful and peaceful surroundings Less crowded; good for photography from afar Cons: Man-made overflow, not a natural waterfall Dangerous to approach; no safety systems in place Tips: Stay on the safe side of the waterfall Do not enter the water or get too close Visit with caution and never alone Verdict: A scenic spot best enjoyed from a distance. Respect the power of the water and prioritize safety.

Avanti Swami Temple Ruins is a fascinating site that showcases the architectural brilliance of ancient times. Though in ruins, the temple still reflects its historical and cultural significance. The intricate carvings and remnants of its grand structure offer a glimpse into the craftsmanship of a bygone era. As the name suggests, the temple is not in its original shape, with much of it now in ruins. However, the remains still hold a certain charm, making it a must-visit for history and architecture enthusiasts. The peaceful surroundings add to the experience, allowing visitors to appreciate the heritage and imagine its former grandeur. While it may not be a fully intact temple, Avanti Swami Temple Ruins remain a testament to Kashmir’s rich history. It’s a great place for those interested in ancient architecture, photography, or simply exploring offbeat historical sites.

Visited the Avanti Swami Temple Ruins in Awantipora, and it’s a fascinating glimpse into Kashmir’s ancient history! The 9th-century ruins, built by King Avantivarman, are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Shiva, showcasing intricate Kashmiri architecture with detailed stone carvings. The site, maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, is serene, with well-kept gardens and the Jhelum River nearby, adding to the ambiance. The ruins are smaller than expected but still impressive, especially the sculptured reliefs and the layout resembling the Martand Sun Temple. A local guide helped bring the history alive, though some guides could be more informative. It’s a great stop en route from Srinagar to Pahalgam, just 30 km from Srinagar. Entry is affordable (₹10), and the site is open 9 AM to 5 PM. Perfect for history buffs and photographers, but more signage would enhance the experience. Highly recommend a quick visit!

It offers a peaceful and scenic environment surrounded by greenery and the backdrop of the majestic mountains. Photography lovers and history buffs will find this place especially captivating. The temple is easy to access and not very crowded, which adds to the charm. It’s a wonderful spot for those who enjoy exploring offbeat and lesser-known heritage sites. There is also the nearby Avantiswara temple (dedicated to Lord Shiva), making Avantipura a spiritually and historically significant stop. Highly recommended for anyone traveling towards Pahalgam – it's a short visit, but a memorable one!

No entrance fee to be paid here. Quite heartbreaking looking at the ruins. The temple existed more than 1000 years back. Was located next to Jhelum river once upon a time. The Muslim invaders demolished the temple. Even natural calamities played its part. The erstwhile temple & now ruins is surrounded by gardens. Can only imagine its natural beauty when it existed. Worth visiting en route to Pahalgam

Thajiwas Glacier is a must-see destination in Sonamarg, Kashmir. It's a stunning snow glacier that offers breathtaking views and an unforgettable experience. However, visitors should be cautious of locals running ice scooters who may overcharge for their services. Additionally, local taxi operators may demand high prices for short distances, so it's advisable to negotiate and consider walking to fully enjoy the beauty of the area.
Sonmarg, often referred to as the "Meadow of Gold," is another must-visit destination in Kashmir. Similar to Gulmarg, this enchanting place offers snow-covered landscapes throughout the year, making it a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. A visit to the Thajiwas Glacier is a highlight of Sonmarg. To reach the glacier, you can take a pony ride, which adds a touch of adventure to the journey. Alternatively, union cabs are available to take you to various scenic points. During our visit, we opted for the pony ride to the glacier, and it was an unforgettable experience. The sight of the pristine snow and the thrill of being surrounded by such natural beauty made it truly magical. For those seeking more fun, there are sledges available, where locals will drag you up the snowy slopes for an exhilarating ride down. Additionally, skiing and other snow activities are offered, ensuring there's something for everyone. We spent a delightful half-day here, from the afternoon until late evening, enjoying the activities and the serene ambiance. Sonmarg also has plenty of food stalls where you can savor local delicacies, including the famous Kashmiri Qahwa, a warm and aromatic tea that's perfect for the chilly weather. However, it's important to note that if you're planning to buy dry fruits or saffron, it's best to purchase them from Pampore, Pahelgam known for its authenticity and quality. A practical tip: Make sure to rent snow boots, as regular shoes won't suffice in the cold and snowy conditions. This destination is perfect for families, offering a mix of adventure, relaxation, and cultural experiences. Our family had an amazing time here, and it's a place we would highly recommend to anyone visiting Kashmir.

A must visit place. Really beautiful and quiet place for nature lovers and people who like to explore nature. There are tea and Maggie stalls near by and barista nearby. Horse rides are available, however you can also trek to this place. The glacier is about 5km from the highway and it’s an easy trek (depends if you’re active or mostly sedentary). Do visit, sit there for a moment and embrace the tranquil landscape! Note: Please do not litter. Respect nature and the locals! Stunning. You must come here to see the scenic beauty and a divine feeling. Absolute serene and scenic. Use sledge to go till 18 points and enjoy the view. It is a very easy hike along the valley. You can easily walk upto the pony shed, which you find on Google maps. Start at around 9 or before to beat the tourist crowd. It is a very picturesque valley. Locals do not advise walking beyond the pony shed, because of the bears in the area. However it is perfectly safe upto this point, and you have a well laid path as well. There's also a village on the way, so you aren't completely alone. Pony riders will try and convince you otherwise, do not fall for it, unless you really want to ride a pony. Fall season is a perfect time to visit (late october) it is not too cold, peaks have snow on them, and there's little crowd.

We visited the national park and unfortunately the park was closed for public due to a VIP visitor. No prior intimation was put up on their website leading to disappointment. We got an opportunity to see only the animal rescue centre where we saw a few Himalayan black bears and 2 leopards.

Dachigam Park is a nice place to visit, especially if you enjoy nature and peaceful surroundings. It’s a good spot for a walk, with fresh air and scenic views. In terms of wildlife, the park mainly houses Brown Bears, Black Bears, and Leopards, along with a fish farm. While it’s interesting, the variety of animals is quite limited. Overall, it’s a good place to explore, though not the most exciting if you’re expecting a wide range of wildlife. Still, it’s worth a visit for the natural beauty and quiet atmosphere.

Dachigam National Park, a short drive from Srinagar, is a quiet mountain sanctuary of forests, alpine meadows and rich birdlife where the rare Hangul (Kashmir stag) still survives — visiting feels like stepping from the city into a peaceful, photogenic wildroom of streams, trails and sudden animal sightings; it’s perfect for a half-day wildlife escape (permits are required and mornings give the best chances to spot wildlife).

Dachigam National Park is a calm and beautiful place with clean surroundings and well-maintained trails. During our visit we only spotted a leopard and a bear—no other animals were visible at the time, though the area clearly has rich wildlife. The fish hatchery inside the park is a highlight and is very well managed, showing the conservation work happening there. The whole environment feels fresh, peaceful, and worth visiting for nature lovers.

Dachigam National Park is a protected area located about 22 km from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. Spread over an area of around 141 square kilometers, it is known for its rich biodiversity, scenic landscapes, and dense forests. The park is home to the endangered Hangul (Kashmiri stag), which is its main attraction, along with species like Himalayan black bear, leopard, musk deer, and various birds. The terrain ranges from lush green valleys and alpine meadows to rocky cliffs and high-altitude pastures, making it a haven for both wildlife and nature lovers. The name "Dachigam," meaning "ten villages," recalls the ten villages that were relocated to create the park.

Nature preserve
Yousmarg, an unexplored hill station in the northern part of India, is a hidden gem located 80 km west of Jammu and Kashmir State. Nestled just 47 km south of Srinagar, it boasts snow-covered hills and lush green meadows dotted with pine and fir trees reminiscent of the European Alps.
On visiting Yousmarg, you can enjoy the meadows surrounded by snowclad mountains on one side. Here many activities can be done. One being the Horse Ride to Nilnag Lake. The path to Nilnag Lake is quite muddy in some places passing through the pine forests

A beautiful place, better than even sonamarg and remove the Gondola and it's better than Gulmarg too. Very few tourists, serene meadows, still very clean and calming. On the flip side, the route is not well maintained, facilities such as washrooms, restaurants, seating etc are in a very poor condition. Visited in winters, and so that may be a reason. Otherwise a beautiful meadow..

Beautiful Meadows Valley was one of the most peaceful and scenic places I’ve ever visited. The wide green landscapes, fresh air, and colorful blooms made it feel like a hidden paradise. It was a perfect spot for relaxation, photography, and reconnecting with nature. It’s truly disappointing that the valley is now closed. A place so naturally beautiful deserved to be preserved and cherished. I hope it reopens someday, because experiences like this are rare to find.

This pictures are taken at June last week. When I first came on the bank of this spring... I thought this place is not real.. Sooooo beautiful so green... I felt like it's another word... Or heaven.. Small springs, eye soothing green grass on the bank of the river, the picture perfect village...

Good place to visit, all need to have cash available instead of E-transfer option de to non availability of mobile network, nowadays few restaurants provide you wifi access to transfer via UPI.

Yousmarg is a stunning, less-crowded alternative to Gulmarg. If you love nature and peace, this is your spot! The main meadow is simply gorgeous, surrounded by tall pine forests and snow-capped peaks
Aabid A — Google review
Yousmarg is truly a hidden gem of Kashmir. Unlike the more crowded tourist spots such as Gulmarg or Pahalgam, this place offers complete peace and untouched natural beauty. The drive from Srinagar itself is refreshing, passing through villages, orchards, and the famous Charar-e-Sharif. As soon as you reach Yousmarg, you are welcomed by endless meadows surrounded by dense pine forests and snow-capped mountains in the distance. The air feels fresh and pure, and the calmness of the place instantly relaxes you. It is perfect for those who want to escape the busy life and spend some quiet time in nature. There are many things to explore here—short treks to Doodhganga, Nilnag Lake, and Sang-e-Safed make the experience even more memorable. Horse riding across the green pastures is another must-try activity. In summers, the meadows are full of wildflowers, while in winters the entire valley is covered in snow, turning it into a white wonderland. What I loved most about Yousmarg is its serenity. It is not commercialized, so you truly get to enjoy the raw beauty of Kashmir. If you are a nature lover, photographer, or someone looking for peace and fresh air, Yousmarg is a place you must not miss. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kashmir.”

It is a beautiful valley of Kashmir. Distance from Srinagar is only 50km. Visiting places are- Doodh ganga river and false. Pony available to go to the spot from entrance. But you can go by walking. Getting down is easier but climbing up is bit difficult. Fruit and food stall also available there.
