Vellore Amirthi Zoological Park

Zoo
Nature & Parks
Small zoo established in 1967 in a scenic area with waterfalls & trees, plus a playground for kids.
Visited the zoo on a rainy day. It was very quite around 8.30 and the place was magical. The zoo is a very small park and not a zoo. But monkeys are huge menace. They gran anything and everything from your hand. There is a falls inside which was closed due to heavy rainfall. But the clerk at the entry point of the zoo, directed me to the river near by which is the water from the falls. You can safely bath with you family as it flows through a road bridge and not deep. The birds in the aviary have laid eggs on the concrete floor and I could see one laying eggs.
V S — Google review
Best place to visit for only climate 🌦️ In zoo there is only small animals like Deers , Birds, Peacock. Don't go zoo for exceptation. Also they not allowing for falls also. Small park is here for children play. Overall there is no maintenance,🫠 Parking facility is available.🚗🏍️ But you can see water in river 🌊
Dhilip A — Google review
Wonderful retreat to a calm and chill place. Dominated by monkey. Has a limited animal display and reprint display. A nice time pass to children as they have functional children park with swings, see saw, slides and a monkey bar. Certainly this place will rejuvenate the mind and will be a better break from daily routine and noisy lifestyle.
Narendra K — Google review
• Loved these bits : - bird watching with the pelicans and herons. - the park is very green and whatever animals are present are an eyeful - there's a stream if you go down from the gate, just a bit further. It's a great spot to relax, be with nature, fish and eat. (Please don't litter) Don't miss this! • To be careful : - there are too many monkeys and donkey waiting for food bits. Be careful especially if you have children. - not too many animals - the premises aren't maintained too well. Could be cleaner. Especially the areas around the snakes.
Flynn G — Google review
Was a calm place... There was no one when I visited. Very well maintained. The waterfall behind this zoo is prohibited.
Unni K — Google review
It's a small zoo where some birds and animals, snakes and crocodiles are there. Full of greenery environment which makes us feel peace and happy. Small play areas are there where kids can enjoy more. Next to the zoo one river flows which looks superb. Must visit places at vellore.
Sasi I — Google review

Very peaceful temple. Offer great views around it. I loved the quite vibe here. Not much visited by tourists.
Himanshu S — Google review
Calm and auspicious place. You can see the entire yelagiri from the top of this beautiful temple. Small hilly temple. recommended to visit early morning or in the evening
Jovin N — Google review
What a vibe! Lots of positive energy. Go early morning around 7:30-8:30am. It's calm and piece of mind. I loved this temple. Few photo points are also there. Vibrant colors are used that is pleasing to the eyes.
Anu D — Google review
A beautiful and peaceful temple located on top of the hill in Yelagiri. The surroundings are calm with a lovely view of the valley. The steps are easy to climb, and the temple is clean and well maintained. You can feel a positive and divine atmosphere as soon as you reach the top. It's a great place to visit with family, especially in the morning or evening for a pleasant experience. Must-visit spot for those coming to Yelagiri
MUTHU P — Google review
The yelagiri consisting of three major villages athanavur nilavur and mangalam. In the first village this murugan temple is there as usual on a hill top. There is ganapathy anjaneyar temple in the bottom with around 50 steps easily accessible, this temple gives the nice view of the yelagiri hills. Murugan is with two consorts Valli and Deivayani and spear is also there in front of the murugan deity.
Sundararajan V — Google review
calm place to sit down at yelagiri where no much to do it except keeping the mind empty and stay silent.. that weather makes it pleasant and brings peace
Karthik B — Google review
Beautiful Temple located near by lake. The steps are easy to climb. Beware of dogs and cows. Although the temple will be closed with gate one can see the God and do prayers which is great advantage of the temple. Drinking water facilities may be installed in temple premises.
Raja A — Google review
I loved this temple. It's in a small hillock. Need to climb around 50 steps. Very calm atmosphere. The view of the mountains from the temple is awesome. The temple is accessible in odd noon time too for tourists. However, Iyer/gurukal will not be available during the odd hours.

Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
This is good place for adventure loving people. Very friend people helping to do the activities.
Sanjeev U — Google review
Good range of activities but felt unsafe We've been to several parks and facilities that offer rope climbing, zip lines, etc for kids. While Thrill Valley offers a good range of activities at acceptable (though not cheap) prices, I thought basic safety facilities were lacking. And that's why we wouldn't be going back. 1) Most facilities were operated by kids with no adults around. While they were friendly and tried to be helpful, they did not appear to be fully trained or qualified. They also didn't speak any English or Hindi, making basic communication difficult for us. 2) on the rope adventure, the safety wire attached to our younger kid's harness was too short. So the boy operating it just took it off in the middle of an adventure and held it by his hand rather than keeping it secured as it should be. 3) Our younger kid's harness was not tied properly. And came off on its own in the middle of the adventure. Fortunately neither of them slipped from the adventure. 4) there were no helmets provided for the zip lining. Very expensive of entry fees. Not worth for money to this place..
Md I — Google review
Nice to place to spend few hours at this place which is at Yelagiri. Very neatly maintained. Prices are little high for the stretch/duration of the activities. For example: kids obstacles activity is Rs.250/- which is insane. Just 4-5 mins my 5yr kid completed whole task and he wanted to play one more round for that another 250/- will be charged which is insane. Just take your kid or any family member who has never played these kind of games. For those who has already experienced then this place is not worth. Location is little outskirts of yelagiri. From lake it's around 3-4 Kms. Google map works we well till that place.
Kiran N — Google review
A great spot for entire family to spend few hours. There are many rides available for kids. ATV and zipline are popular ones. There are 3 ATVs, one each for 90cc, 200cc and 400cc. Kids take the 90cc and therefore there is a good wait for ATV as well as zipline. We felt prices are slightly on the higher side. They accept credit card payment. Clean drinking water is available near entrance, so are the toilets. Good parking space is available. The approach road is paved with stones and doesn't feel smooth. Staff are courteous.
Sachin K — Google review
The prices are reasonable and cleanliness is maintained . Some rides are expensive some are decent . Safety measures are not very good . Restrooms and parking slot also available .
Tejas L — Google review
Fantastic place to be with friends and family in yellagiri. It's a place for all age groups. Has a many choices of adventurous games and sports such as arching, shooting, zip line, Burma bridge, trampoline, zorbing ball, quake walk scooters, etc,. Need to buy tickets for each activities starting from min 100 rs each depends on what you choose. Just enjoyed...
Ramya K — Google review
Probably the best adventure park in yelagiri..Not very big , but big enough to enjoy for a short while . No need to stop amd ask for directions , as there are enough boards and signs on every road , directing you to the place . There's ATV ride, zip line ( below 80kgs), archery , bottle shooting , few Rope walks etc .
Dan B — Google review
Don't visit this place with lot of expectations. Limited options and no value for money
Harsha B — Google review
Nice adventure park with friendly staffs, excitement guaranteed.

Bodies of Water
Nilavoor Lake, situated in Nilavoor village, is a popular spot for boating enthusiasts and tourists seeking tranquility. This artificial lake resembles a small pond and features a garden on its banks, offering visitors a serene environment to unwind. The surrounding area boasts scenic views and is ideal for early morning or evening visits. While the lack of tourist information may pose challenges, the rustic charm and peaceful ambiance make it an excellent destination for nature lovers.
Nicely maintained lake in a village set up. Rustic. With surrounded hillocks. But be prepared for total lack of tourist information, sign boards etc and you have to go by the advise of locals. You can also visit nearby View-points, for which you will have to trek in a blind manner due to lack of signages...
Ck N — Google review
It not a lake but a temple pond when we visited the lake was filled with algae completely. There is no boating or any activity in the surroundings. There is an amman temple nearby where one can go and pray. But the lake was not worth visiting
Rakesh P — Google review
Serene and not much else. The temple is worth a visit. The lake is unclean and no activities happen here.
Ashish G — Google review
It's not a lake. A pond adjacent to a temple
Aravind M — Google review
There lake hasn't been maintained of late. Boating is not available. The Kadavunasi Amman temple near the lake is small but beautiful and interesting to see.Better take a vehicle to get here.
RAJARAJESWARI S — Google review
Went there but got only disappointment. No boating service was there..it looked more like a temple pond rather than a lake. The locals around informed that the boating service hasn't started yet. They did guided us to a view point nearby but if you plan for boating ..please check whether they have started the boating service and then go.
Bhargavi M — Google review
This is not a lake infact a small pound near to temple. Do not keep very high hope on this place but it's good to visit if you have free time just enjoy near the pond, visit the temple and buy some from Fruits and vegetables from local vendor. We went early morning around 7-8 AM and we enjoyed the view and spent like 30 minutes and came back.
Anand S — Google review
Just a small request.. please take some food with you probably biscuit or bread and feed the fishes in that lake... You'll love that feeling

Sri Pandurangaa Swamy Temple

Mentioned on
1 list
Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Nestled in a serene setting, the Sri Pandurangaa Swamy Temple is a vibrant and architecturally stunning Hindu temple complex dedicated to Lord Panduranga. Renowned for its resemblance to the original temple in North India, it offers a peaceful atmosphere where devotees can seek blessings from Lord Pandurangan and Ragumayi without overwhelming crowds. The temple features convenient amenities such as ample car parking and well-maintained restrooms for both men and women.
“A serene oasis of devotion and art in the heart of Tamil Nadu” Odisha‑style grandeur: The temple’s design—modeled on the Pandharpur Panduranga temple of Maharashtra—features striking temple architecture and vibrant deity decorations in a serene peaceful setting . Beautiful artwork: Exquisite ceiling and wall paintings, combined with the ceremonial adornments (alankarams) of Lord Pandurangan and Goddess Ragumayi, create a peaceful and uplifting ambiance . Well maintained & less crowded: Despite being impressive in scale, the temple remains clean, well-kept, and uncrowded even on weekends . Opening hours: Generally open 4 PM to 8 PM daily; on Wednesdays, the morning session begins 6:30 AM to 12 PM, along with the regular evening hours . Dress and decorum: Courteous modest attire is appreciated. Men may be asked to remove their shirts or banyans before entering the sanctum—this has been cited by some visitors as a concern . Best visiting times: Weekdays offer a quieter experience. Evenings are especially peaceful, as the temple fills with evening arti and soft chants .
Satish J — Google review
I recently visited the newly built Sri Panduranga Temple, and I was truly amazed by its beauty and divine atmosphere. Tall, Towering Superstructure architecture is absolutely stunning, with intricate designs and a grand structure that showcases traditional with modern elegance. The temple surroundings are neat, peaceful, and well maintained, making it a perfect place for prayer and meditation. Parking available ₹50 for car . And Toilets 5 Rupees Per Head .
Jeevanmanickam — Google review
Visited the Thenangur Panduranga Temple near Kanchipuram on a Saturday morning, and we were fortunate to witness a part of the 5-day Brahmotsavam celebrations. The temple was filled with divine energy and festive spirit. The next day was Swami’s Thirunakshatram (birth star day), and we had the rare chance to see the procession of the deity on a horse around the temple — a truly captivating and sacred sight. The presiding deity, Lord Panduranga, stands in a majestic 12-foot-tall form made from Saligrama stone, radiating spiritual strength and grace. The deity’s standing posture, known as Panduranga Kolam, is both powerful and peaceful. The temple itself is architecturally modeled after the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. Its towering gopuram stands at 120 feet, with a 9.5-foot golden kalasam, crowned with a Sudarsana Chakra and saffron flag — all designed to inspire awe. Each day, the Lord is adorned in a different alankaram (decorative form): Sunday: As Mathurapuri Aalan (King of Mathura) Thursday: In the traditional Panduranga Alankaram Friday: With Silver Armor (Velli Kavasam) Saturday: As Tirupati Venkatachalapathi Another unique aspect is the temple's Sthala Vriksham (sacred tree) — the Tamala tree, rarely found in South India and commonly associated with Krishna lore in the North. Inside the sanctum, we had divine darshan of Lord Panduranga alongside Goddess Rukmini, both decorated beautifully. A noteworthy tradition here is that male devotees must remove their shirt and vest before entering the sanctum — a mark of purity and devotion. The sanctum remains covered by a screen until a priest narrates the story of the temple’s origin — explaining how it was established so that devotees from the South who couldn’t travel to Pandharpur in Maharashtra could still receive Lord Panduranga’s blessings locally. This temple is immaculately maintained, rich in tradition, and overflowing with spiritual vibrance. Whether you're in Kanchipuram, Vandavasi, or simply passing nearby, this temple is a must-visit for both its divine atmosphere and architectural beauty. Parking for vehicles is available with a charge of ₹50.
Jagankumar E — Google review
Sri Panduranga Swamy Temple in Vandavasi is a truly divine and peaceful place. The temple is well-maintained, and the atmosphere is very calm and spiritual. The idol of Lord Panduranga Swamy is so beautiful and powerful that one feels an instant sense of devotion and positivity upon entering the sanctum. The temple premises are clean, and the staff and devotees are very welcoming. Festivals and special poojas are conducted with great devotion, creating a vibrant and uplifting environment. It is a must-visit temple for anyone seeking blessings, inner peace, and a memorable spiritual experience in Vandavasi.

Surprised to see such a divine temple which is engraved with beautiful Architectural marvel. Thayar and Panduranga Swamy is blessing us in different alankaram on every day which is a special mention to this temple. Must visit!
Vivek V — Google review
This temple is identical to Pandaripuram Vittal nathan temple. The gopuram itself will reveal that . Inside the temple very calm& peaceful atmosphere.zThe temple is situated in Thennangur in between Vandavasi & Kanchipuram. When we were there the alankaram was Thirupati Venkatachala Perumal & Padmavathi Thayar Dharisanam. We stayed in the temple trust cottage which is very nice & clean. We have a very pleasant rememberance there. For food and other things we can have a hotel Vittal Bhavan which is also worthy to take.

🗺️ Parvathamalai Trek – A Spiritual Journey Above the Clouds ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⏰ Timing: 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM Start early to avoid the heat and enjoy a peaceful trekking experience. 🚌 How to Reach: First, reach Thiruvannamalai and stay overnight. In the morning, take the 5:30 AM bus to Thenmathimangalam. From there, take a shared auto (₹20 per person) to the checkpost, which is the starting point of the trek. 🎒 What to Carry: 🚫 There is no water available on the way. Carry at least 2 liters of water per person. 🍱 Bring some light snacks or food. 👟 Wear good trekking shoes and comfortable clothes. 🍛 Food Availability: Free food (Annadhanam) is available at Veerabadrar Temple after 1.5 km. More free food is served at the top of the hill. ⚠️ Water is not available, so don’t forget to carry your own. 🐒 Monkey Alert: Be careful of monkeys. Do not take food out in front of them. Keep your bags closed and avoid using plastic covers. 🥾 Trekking Experience: Distance (one side): About 5–6 km Time: 3–4 hours to go up, 2–3 hours to come down The trek is divided into 4 parts, from easy to difficult: 📍Part 1 – Easy (1.5 km) Starts from Jai Anjaneya Temple to Veerabadrar Temple. Simple and smooth path. Good for beginners. Free food and water available here. 📍Part 2 – Medium (1.5 km, 1200+ steps) This part has steps in forest way enjoy trecking A little tiring but still manageable. Local shops may sell water , snacks or drinks on the way. 📍Part 3 – Moderate The path becomes more steep and rocky. This part needs more energy and patience. Take breaks and drink water slowly. 📍Part 4 – Hard This is the most difficult part of the trek. The slope is very steep — about 88 to 90 degrees. No proper railings or support. Most people stop here and go back. Climbing is tough, but going down is even harder so, rethink before start. If you continue, be very careful and go slowly. At the top, the view is amazing, and free food is given near the temple. 🌄 Overall Experience: Parvathamalai is not just a trek — it is a spiritual journey. You will feel close to nature, adventure, and divinity. Each part of the trek has a different feel and challenge. The blessings at the top make all the effort worth it. Perfect for those who love trekking and seek peace. But be well-prepared and know your limits. 🙏

Resently visited Parvathamalai in Tiruvanamalai which was amazing . The view points are spectacular , we went from tiruvallur to tiruvanamalai , we stayed in near by temple in tiruvanamalai , we catched the earliest bus to parvathamalai which is 4.30 AM if missed the next bus is nearly at 7 AM . There are nearby shops in Parvathamalai base . we started to climb the mountain at 6AM and we decented at 1 PM . Take some water bottle because the water bottles are to high priced . You can find many shops in the mountain so don't worry about snacks . You will be provided free food in the base temple of parvathamalai . Don't climb the mountain so fast take some breaks because it will make you tired while coming down ( based on my own exprience ) You can go there with your family but going with friends is best because you need to care about your family very much because there are more spots which are very physically challenging . Avoid carrying Heavy bags and take some sticks because there are more monkeys to snatch your belongings . The view point are very heart melting . There are some spots that is amazing which has better view and the breeze makes your hard trek into a pleasurable one . Enjoy the trip and you can have free lunch again in the base which is generally a Sambar rice and in morning you will get a plate of Kanji and Pickle which is good avoid drinking juice in empty stomach which have an chance to make your head to pain . You can reach the mountian through auto or by walk and in afternoon there are plenty of bus flying to thiruvanamalai but the last bus to parvathamalai is some where around 9.45 to 10.50 PM . Have a good journey

Paruvathamalai is one of the expert-level trekking experiences you should visit once in your lifetime.Parking facilities are available for cars, bikes, and vans in the parking lot. Please start trekking at 5am or else start at evening after 4pm to avoid sun and don't carry luggage. Go with a small decathlon bag to carry a small towel and water bottle; that's more than enough. Once you start trekking, be careful with monkeys; so many monkeys are there. Buy water and biscuits. Don't buy bananas due to Monkey. On weekends they arranged shop, from bottom to top, we will see 5 to 6 tent shops, so no problem for water and juice. Once you reach the top, you can buy Pooja items there, but at a bit of an expense. The main point is that Paruvathamalai is the only place 24/7 where you will get free food. That's too good 💯
Devesh M — Google review
Loved the experience.its quite hard for beginners.the trail path through kadalady is more challenging especially during evening as it gets really dark downhill.
Aadith N — Google review
The trekking was very adventurous & fun😄. Beware of the monkeys 🐒 at the top. When I was climbing the iron ladders🪜, the monkeys 🐒 are started snatching the bag. So please bring a long stick to scare them. Because this is my first time climbing at this hills, I didn't even bring a stick with me while I'm going to the top of the hills. Then i regretted it.
Magavishnu . — Google review
This is a beautiful hill located off Thiruvanamalai. The kadaladi forest has a trail path that leads to the Parvadhamalai Sivan temple. The trek takes about 4-6 hours for an average person. The top view from the forest is really splendid. There is a Sivan temple on the hill top. Best time to go for trekking is during early morning or late evening. Take enough water and energy food like - nuts and fruits. There are also shops that sell water, snacks, butter milk and juices but are slightly expensive given the hilly trek. Best to wear sport shoes and light shorts and tees. A must try trek which is on the outskirts of Chennai. Best choice for one day trips from Chennai.

Must visit for spiritual seekers. Our body, mind and spirit gets naturally healed as we climb and reach the hill top. Good vibration inside temple. Be careful while climbing kadapara parai (the last part). Temple priest is kind enough to give us water and food at night time. Lights are not burning inside the temple, so carry torch. Some youngsters are making unnecessary noise and playing music with high volume even at midnight, this kind of disturbing the environment and vibration. Pls be careful with monkeys. They will snatch anything in plastic bags or water bottles. Better to keep everything inside the bag including water bottles.

Gingee Fort

Mentioned on
1 list
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Gingee Fort is an ancient and historic site with two hills to trek. The Rajagiri hill has many monuments at the base and a long trek to the top, while Ranigiri, the second hill, requires a 45-minute steep trek. Visitors are advised to carry water bottles and beware of monkeys. The fort features ancient buildings on nearby hilltops, with a temple along the way up.
Gingee Fort is an incredible historical site that's definitely worth a visit. The architecture is absolutely beautiful — you can really feel the grandeur and strength of the place even after centuries. Once you climb up, the view is breathtaking. You get a full panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, and it’s especially amazing during sunrise or sunset. The entry fee is quite reasonable at just Rs. 25, which makes it a great spot for both tourists and locals. There’s decent parking available near the entrance, which is convenient if you’re driving there. Just be prepared for a bit of a climb — it’s a fort after all — but the experience and the scenery make it well worth the effort. Highly recommended for history lovers, photographers, and anyone who enjoys scenic views and peaceful surroundings.

This fort is huge and hot even on a overcast day. The place does have restrooms but they arent clean and well maintained. Carry lot of water sunscreen hats scarfs to protect against getting a heat stroke. Wheel chair is available for elderly for free. But they just have one 1 so if its taken it will be a long wait. The ticket area has one small shop selling chips n cold drinks avoid. Drink only water. The more you buy food the more monkeys will trouble yoy, and the monkeys out here are extraordinarily defiant and unscathed by humans. They will reach out and not back down. The gingee fort is well maintained and is clean. Its quiet huge so wear walking shoes. There is ample space to sit under the larger than life banyan trees. Remember to take breaks. We could not scale the fort as we had senior citizen with us. But that climb is physically challenging.

Gingee Fort: The Impregnable Citadel of Tamil Nadu Gingee Fort, often hailed as the “Troy of the East,” is one of the most remarkable forts in South India. Located in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district, about 160 kilometers from Chennai, this historic stronghold sprawls dramatically across three rocky hills — Rajagiri, Krishnagiri, and Chandrayandurg — each crowned with formidable fortifications. Together, they form an extensive defensive complex that once made Gingee one of the most impregnable citadels in the region. The fort’s origins trace back to the 9th century under the Cholas, with significant expansions later by the Vijayanagara Empire in the 15th century. Its strategic location and near-impossible access drew the attention of successive rulers, including the Marathas under Shivaji, the Mughals under Aurangzeb, the French, and finally the British. Each power added to its legacy, leaving behind layers of history etched into its walls. Spread over 11 square kilometers, Gingee Fort is an engineering marvel of military architecture. Massive granite walls, deep moats, and cleverly designed ramparts blend seamlessly with the natural rocky landscape. The complex houses granaries, temples, a seven-storey Kalyana Mahal (marriage hall), audience chambers, and hidden passageways. Particularly striking is the Rajagiri Hill, where a climb of over a thousand steps rewards visitors with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Despite its rugged strength, Gingee Fort is not merely a military relic. It also embodies cultural and architectural finesse, with Hindu shrines, Islamic structures, and later European influences coexisting within its vast expanse. Today, it stands as a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India and attracts travelers, historians, and trekkers alike. A visit to Gingee Fort is more than just a historical tour — it is an immersive journey into Tamil Nadu’s past, where nature and history merge to create an awe-inspiring experience. There are 3 hills - Rajagiri (1200 steps), Krishnagiri(around 700 steps) and Chandrayandurg. We only had a day, so decided to walk up to Rajagiri. It's better to do Rajagiri and Krishnagiri on 2 separate days, as the climb is quite strenuous. Also remember to carry at least 3L of water, esp if it's very hot. Before you ascend Rajagiri, you see the ruins of the palace, granaries, Kalyana Mantapa, gymnasium, hotse stables, ekephant ponds. Once you go on top you see granaries, look out points, bell tower, a cannon(there is also another one mid-way), Hawa Mahal, Treasury and Ranganatha Temple. A good experience, it takes around 1.5hours to ascend and 45mins to descend but you need to be fit, esp if the sun is shining.

An awesome experience if you feel like you are missing out something in life. This is what I experienced and some tips for you if it's your first time. It was my first time but I was a little prepared. I started early. I was the second person to get the entry ticket. They open at 9am if you really wanna explore and have the fort for yourself make sure you reach before 9am. Make sure you wear proper footwear or shoes that won't slip on rocks. Rain or sun the rocks at the first half are soo slippery. I was wearing shoes yet it slipped coz there was no friction. You need alot of water, I had almost 3lts of water and energy drinks and ran out of them at the summit. So atleast you need 2lts per head. Note that there is no drinking water once you start to climb up. Anyone who can't climb more than 3 stories through staircase don't try. Reason the steps become steaper as you climb and it's not easy. Also make sure to carry some snacks so that you can recharge after your climb and get back down with eaze. Caution: There are macaques everywhere and they are not normal macaques. I just sat down for a min and one just started opening my backpack while I was still wearing it. If you reach there by car make sure to lock your window, if you reach there by motorcycle make sure you don't leave anything in you tank bag. They even took my documents out and made a mess. Now for the good part, it felt like you just didn't something you thought you can't. The view and the architecture around are really awesome and breathtaking. Just get to know about the history of Rajagiri before you reach there. If you expect to see artifact's just know that except few cannons there isn't much. The interesting part, from a far it looks like a rock on top of pebbles but once you start to climb you'll see alot of caves, almost a tropical forest on your way. It was an awesome side quests for sure. Have fun and please use the trashcans and let's not litter.

Faith beneath a Hilltop Fort On the way to the fort of Gingee (or Senji) just after turning right, leaving the Gingee-Tindivanam Road, this standalone non functional temple within a well curated garden is unmissable The ASI board says - Ekambareshswar Temple (the popular temple of the same name is in Kanchipuram) which means it was once dedicated to Lord Shiva Nothing much is mentioned on the board except that the monument is protected and declared to be of national importance With no entry ticket, the temple courtyard is frequented with mostly locals, gossiping, studying and even taking afternoon nap Not sure if the existing structure is what it was earlier but it's fairly well maintained and constructed in Dravidian Architecture style probably during the time of Gingee Nayakas A good stopover point for anyone while going or existing Gingee Fort

Arunachaleshwara Temple has impressive scale and architecture, spiritual significance as one of the Pancha Bhoota Sthalam (Agni or fire), and the importance of the Girivalam (circumambulation of the Annamalai hill). It has a powerful, spiritual atmosphere, noting that the temple can be very crowded, especially during festivals or special events like Karthigai Deepam or full moon days., but also that early morning visits offer a more serene experience. Commonly mentioned engineering marvels of the temple, such as the massive stone construction and the mysterious shadow of the vimana and the spiritual energy of the place. You can pre-book just before 2-3 hours for darshan and can be booked both online and offline to avoid the long queues for darshan. Puja items are sold around the temple area.

Visited on week end. Too much crowded. Took around 5 hours to take the darshan. Finding car parking was difficult. Finally could able to park with the help of a auto drive around 800 meters away from Raja gopuram basically it's one of the entrance. Parking fee was Rs 80. I am not sure if this parking was really run by temple authority because it dint look so. Better to take Rs 50 entrance ticket to save some time. I was not aware that there is such facility. After the darshan we can buy sweet pongal and pulihogre for Rs. 10 each. Temple also sells laddus and other items priced Rs. 50 each.

Visited here during Pournami and did the Giripradakshina at night, starting around 12 AM and completing it by 6 AM. The crowd was massive, so after finishing the walk we took some rest in the morning as darshan was difficult due to the rush. Later in the afternoon, around 2 PM, we went for darshan and were able to complete it in just 30 minutes. The experience was peaceful and truly blissful — we really loved the place. Arulmigu Annamalaiyar (Arunachaleswarar) Temple in Tiruvannamalai is a major South Indian Shiva temple located at the foot of the sacred Arunachala Hill. Built by the early Cholas in the 9th century and expanded by later dynasties, it stands as a grand example of Dravidian architecture with many gopurams, mandapams, shrines, and temple tanks. The temple’s spiritual significance is highlighted in texts like Arunachala Puranam and Tiruppugazh, and Lord Shiva is believed to have manifested here as a self-born lingam under a magizha tree. Many saints, including Ramana Maharshi and Seshadri Swamigal, attained samadhi here. I visited today along with my friend, and the darshan was amazing. We spent nearly an hour in the temple after the darshan, and it filled us with a lot of positive energy. Please note: On Pradosham and auspicious days, the temple becomes highly crowded, and waiting time for darshan can range from 3 to more than 6 hours. Parking is also difficult, and you may have to park far from the temple and walk or take auto. If visiting with senior citizens, plan accordingly. Buying special dharshan ticket for Rs 50/- will help.. To avoid crowds, visit on non-festival days, non-auspicious days, and weekdays.

Sri Ramanasramam, located in Tiruvannamalai (Arunachalam), is a serene ashram complex that holds great spiritual significance. It is a must-visit destination near the main temple, offering a tranquil atmosphere for meditation and prayer rituals. The ashram features a Hindu shrine, library, and tree-lined grounds where visitors can immerse themselves in peaceful contemplation.
It's a place where I feel utmost peace. The ashram is full of trees and greenery. It's a very good place for meditation as they have separate meditation halls. You see birds everywhere and particularly, peacocks make you feel happy. Through the Ashram, there is a way to Virupaksha cave and city view point from the top of the Arunachala hill. The whole journey towards the cave, makes you refresh and gives you an experience of trekking with bare feet. They have washrooms as well with well maintained. There is a big book stall as well. So, Such an amazing place to visit once in a lifetime.

I visited the ashram roughly after 5 years or so. This time I found quite a considerable number of visitors, more so youngsters or families with kids, which was surprising for a weekday after noon. The solitude atmosphere was no longer seen inside the ashram. But it was very noteworthy that despite the presence of so much crowd, there was comparatively very little noise. However, parking has become quite difficult. The area outside the ashram has been totally taken over by auto rickshaws and some of them even blocking the way.

The Sri Ramanasramam in Thiruvanamalai is a globally renowned spiritual center, known for its deep sense of peace and for preserving the legacy of the modern sage, Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi. Spiritual Significance and Atmosphere The Ashram was the home of Sri Ramana Maharshi from 1922 until his passing in 1950, and it is built around the Samadhi shrine of his mother, Alagammal. Path of Self-Inquiry: The ashram is the epicenter for the Maharshi's direct path of Self-Inquiry (asking the fundamental question, "Who Am I?"). His teachings emphasize finding the true, unchanging Self beneath all of life's experiences. Profound Peace and Stillness: Visitors consistently describe the atmosphere as "very calm, peace" and "serene," where "silence and inner reflection take precedence." Many report feeling a sense of stillness and "immense of peace" upon entering. Samadhi Shrine: The main hall houses the Samadhi (resting place) of Sri Ramana Maharshi. Devotees spend hours here in silent meditation, absorbing the tranquil energy and profound spiritual power. Connection to Arunachala: The ashram is intimately connected to the Thiruvanamalai, which Ramana Maharshi taught was a living embodiment of Lord Shiva. The hill looms quietly in the background, reinforcing the spiritual energy of the site. If this was helpful👍🏻Check out YouTube channal PriyaRajDiaries❤️PriyaJayantPJ

One of the best places to visit . I am requesting each and every person who is visiting Arunachalam please visit this ashram also. No photos and videos are allowed inside the ashram . But while going to the hilltop we can take but be cautious with the monkey. But one small issue is there if you drop the slippers in the ramana maharshi ashram when you climb the hilltop then You must get down again to take the slippers but if you go from the backside of the ashram then you can climb the temple with the slippers under get back from the other side of the mountain to the temple.

Sri Ramanasramam, nestled at the base of the sacred Arunachala hill in Tiruvannamalai, is a serene spiritual retreat dedicated to the teachings and legacy of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi. The ashram blends simplicity with profound devotion, creating an atmosphere that encourages meditation, inner peace, and self-reflection. Its halls, adorned with sacred statues and photographs, radiate a deep stillness, while the lush gardens and presence of peacocks add to its natural charm. For seekers of truth, silence, and spiritual depth, Ramanasramam is not just a destination but a transformative experience.

Nice spot for hangout, mostly deserted during mornings and off-season. Cool scenery and seating spots available, great location for campfire trips. Government tourist guesthouse available nearby. Only disgusting factor is that they dissolve lot of dead people’s ashes and leave the pots and flower garlands lying in the beach that gives the beach a horror look and polluted too!

Good place for kids to play around as there are some play time for kids and camel 🐪 ride. Awesome place, we can spend max 1-2 hours. There are garbage near the beach and it’s not clean and not maintained. The road leading to the beach is good and decent. We can get fresh fish over here from 2 pm till 9pm. It safe due to police station is 100 m away but there are no life life guard in here. Pics were taken during gaja cyclone , that’s why water logging is there near kids area.

The less crowd is due to the location of the place. This needs a entry permit (paid on arrival), and there is a one-way path to the falls from the gate (a distance of ~5KM). But it's worth the time spent in travel as you can bathe to heart's content. Downside is that there are no eateries nearby (nearest eatery is ~10KM away).

Annamalai University offers a sprawling green campus with a historic charm that makes studying here a pleasant experience. The university provides a wide range of courses, including well-known distance education programs. The faculty is generally experienced and helpful, though the quality can vary between departments. Hostels are basic but affordable, and the mess food is decent for daily needs. The library is a major highlight, with a large collection that supports serious academic work. Overall, it’s a respected university with a strong reputation, though some of its facilities could benefit from modernization.

Annamalai University in Chidambaram is one of the oldest and best state universities in India. Along with the famous Natarajar Temple, it is a pride for the people of Chidambaram. The university offers many courses in arts, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and more. During my period, getting admission here was very hard because of its strong reputation. Now a days, its name and reputation have weakened. Still, It produce many notable alumni's in to the world.

Puliancholai is a scenic village that boasts a picturesque mountain backdrop and is home to numerous teashops. It offers tourists an excellent opportunity to visit the Agayagangai falls, where they can indulge in trekking along with the stream. The water in the falls is crystal clear and provides visitors with an ideal spot for taking a refreshing bath during sunny weather. However, it can get quite chilly if you opt to take a dip at other times.
This is a one of the best trecking and swimming spot on kolli hills. There is a stream running in the mountains, you have bath in that stream. This place is good for bringing children of age 7+. The stream is kind of fast so be careful.

Nice place to enjoy with the family and friends. Well maintained by the forest department. The public is also cooperative with them and do not throw or use the plastic for the good environment. Meals and Tiffen both Veg and Non - Veg. Is prepared by the shop owners by giving the order in advance. Need more clean in the restroom area. Take care of old age and children while bathing because the water flow area is not even with more irregular rocks. The mountain view from 500 mts. is amazing. Bus service is also available from Thuraiyur.

Leafy, breezy, and refreshingly low-key. Set at the foothills of the Kolli range, Puliyancholai is more about clear streams, boulders, and dappled shade than a single “big” waterfall. Pack a picnic, slip off your shoes, and let the cold water run over your feet—simple joys done right. On weekdays it can feel like your own private creek. Highlights: shallow natural pools for toe-dipping, plenty of tree cover, and a relaxed family vibe. Local tea/bhajji stalls add to the charm without turning it into a carnival. Heads-up: rocks get slick—good grip footwear is a must. Monkeys hover near snacks; keep food sealed. Facilities are basic (toilets/changing are minimal), and there’s usually no lifeguard—avoid deep spots and strong currents after rains. Carry back your plastic. Best time: early morning or late afternoon for softer light and fewer crowds. Post-monsoon gives the nicest flow without muddy water.

Nestled just 5 kilometers from the bustling Trichy-Chennai highway, the Brahmapureeswarar Temple is a hidden gem that beautifully showcases Dravidian architecture. This ancient temple is one of the rare sanctuaries dedicated to Lord Brahma and features an impressive collection of twelve Shiva Lingams, each with its own unique charm. Visitors can enjoy a serene atmosphere as they worship in spacious surroundings, often finding themselves in peaceful solitude.
I bowed my head not just in prayer, but in wonder— that here, even destiny can be rewritten... As Lord Brahma had got his rewritten and can now bless his devotees. The cool stone beneath my feet, the calm waters of Brahma Theertham, and the gaze of the ancient lingam— all spoke a truth I could feel, not explain. Deeyas are lit here with prayers in your mind and heart. This temple is not just a place, but a prayer turned to stone, a promise that divine grace waits quietly for those who seek.

One of the two brahma temples in India. A must visit in Trichy. The historical significance makes this temple a place one should never miss when they are on a pilgrimage. There is a beautiful outdoor spaces surrounding the temple that lets you relax and meditate.
Rahul R — Google review
A nice and peaceful temple located out of the way in Tirupattur in Trichy. Unlike the more commercial temples, this one wasn't crowded. This is actually a Shiva temple with a special shrine dedicated to Brahma. Legend has it that after Shiva cursed Brahma that he wouldn't be worshipped, Brahma did severe penance at the location of this temple. Shiva pleased, allowed Brahma to have a shrine here. So Brahma apparently changed his destiny, which is what many of the devotees here aim to do. Various types of poojas are done here and there is a big board outside the temple listing how many deepams to be lit depending on what desire needs to be fulfilled, including 'blessing for the birth of a son' :) There are many monkeys in the area so be careful with any eatables. There are 12 shiva lingams in a garden next to the temple. These are situated near a tank called the Brahma Theertam. We visited in the evening, there were many bats inside the shrines containing the lingams. Please be careful if you want to step inside. There is also a statue of sage Patanjali in the temple.

The only temple where there is a separate shrine for Brahma. If course within the brahamapurreswarar temple. Brahma is cursed without any shrine or devotees because her lied having seen the head of Shiva. Well maintained temple but cleanliness needs a lot to be improved. Variety of deepams and coconut breaking rituals are well explained.

Brahmapureeswarar Temple in Thiruppattur is one of the most divine, peaceful, and spiritually powerful temples in Tamil Nadu. The temple is famous for its rare and sacred Brahma shrine, where Lord Brahma is believed to have had his destiny rewritten by Lord Shiva. Because of this, devotees visit the temple to pray for life progress, fate correction, education, career growth, and new beginnings. What Makes This Temple Special Main Deity: Lord Brahmapureeswarar (Lord Shiva) in the form of a Swayambu Lingam, which adds enormous sanctity to the temple. Goddess: Devi Brahma Sampath Gowri (or Brahmanayaki), who blesses devotees with prosperity, peace, and wellbeing. Lord Brahma Shrine: A unique highlight is the six-foot-tall idol of Lord Brahma, seated in a meditative posture and adorned fully in turmeric. This is one of the very few temples in India with a dedicated separate shrine for Lord Brahma. Temple Experience The temple ambience is extremely peaceful and calming. The premises are clean, well-maintained, and spacious. Even though it is a popular temple, darshan is usually smooth and comfortable. The architecture and historical significance make it truly a divine place to visit. Location & Timings Location: Situated in Thiruppattur village, around 30–35 km from Trichy, just off the Trichy–Chennai highway. Timings: 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

A separate sannidhi for Lord Brahma, a big one with 3 heads is in the prakaaram. It is believed that Pathaanjali Muni attained JS here as well (one among 10 places). Arulmigu Sri Oppiliappan Temple, also known as Thiruvinnagar of Venkatachalapathy, is a Hindu temple located near Thirunageswaram, just outside of Kumbakonam. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and follows the Dravidian style of architecture. It's the 60th Divya Desam among the 108 temples of Sri Vaishnavas.
The Oppiliappan Temple, also known as Thiruvinnagar or Uppiliappan Kovil, is a revered Vaishnavite shrine located near Thirunageswaram in Tamil Nadu. It holds significant religious and historical importance, being one of the 108 Divya Desams celebrated in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham by the Alvar saints. Tulasi’s Penance and Bhudevi’s Incarnation According to the Brahmanda Purana, the Tulasi plant performed intense penance desiring proximity to Lord Vishnu. Pleased by her devotion, Vishnu informed her that his consort, Lakshmi, would incarnate as Bhudevi under Tulasi’s shade at Thiruvinnagaram. Consequently, Tulasi manifested as a plant at this sacred location, and Bhudevi appeared beneath her. This event is also referenced in the 53rd verse of Nammalvar’s Thiruviruththam . Sage Markandeya’s Devotion Sage Markandeya aspired for Lakshmi to become his daughter and for Vishnu to be his son-in-law. Engaging in rigorous penance at Thiruvinnagaram, he discovered a baby girl beneath the Tulasi plant, whom he recognized as Bhudevi and raised as his own. When she matured, Vishnu, disguised as an elderly man, sought her hand in marriage. Markandeya hesitated, citing her inexperience in cooking, especially her inability to add salt to food. Vishnu responded that he would accept food without salt, leading to the temple’s tradition of offering unsalted prasadam. This narrative gives the deity the name “Oppiliappan,” meaning “the Lord without (uppu) salt” .

Sri Oppiliappan Temple (Uppiliappan Koil), Thirunageswaram This temple is a divine sanctuary renowned for its salt‑free prasadam and rich Vaishnavite lore. Lord Vishnu as Oppiliappan resides with Bhudevi and Sage Markandeya in a posture of eternal marriage. The temple follows a unique tradition—no salt is allowed in prasadam offerings, honoring a legend of acceptance and devotion. The sacred Ahorathra Pushkarani allows devotees to bathe day or night, reinforcing the temple’s exceptional spiritual power. The majestic five-tiered rajagopuram, granite walls, and vivid murals of the 108 Divya Desams frame an atmosphere of blessing and heritage. Don’t miss the vibrant Panguni Brahmotsavam chariot celebration or the Sravanam observance with its unsalted teas. Morning darshan offers serenity; evenings are serene as well. A must-visit divine location for soul seekers, devotees, and heritage lovers. 🙏✨

Visiting the Arulmigu Sri Oppiliappan Temple in Thirunageswaram was a truly spiritual and memorable experience. The temple is beautifully maintained and radiates a deep sense of peace and devotion. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu as Oppiliappan and Goddess Bhoomi Devi, this temple is considered extremely sacred—especially for devotees seeking blessings for marriage and family life. One of the most unique aspects is that salt is not used in any of the offerings (prasadam) made to the Lord, as per the temple's ancient tradition. Don’t miss tasting the delicious puliyodarai (tamarind rice) and sakkarai pongal served as prasadam! The temple architecture is stunning, showcasing traditional Dravidian style with intricate carvings and a calm, sacred atmosphere. The priests are welcoming and explain the significance of the rituals if you ask respectfully. It’s especially vibrant during the monthly Thiruvonam and annual Brahmotsavam festivals. Parking is available nearby, and local shops sell pooja items and souvenirs. It’s also located very close to the famous Thirunageswaram Raghu Temple, making it easy to visit both in one trip. Highly recommended for anyone interested in South Indian temples, spiritual seekers, or anyone wanting a peaceful retreat into devotion and tradition. 🙏

Visited Oppaliappa Temple on 1st Nov and was impressed by its cleanliness and maintenance. Devotees can purchase salt, jaggery, and pepper to offer to the deity. The Kalyani/Pushkarni was particularly well-maintained. A note to fellow devotees: the prasadam served at the temple is saltless, as per the deity's tradition. Let's all make an effort to cherish and not waste this sacred offering 🙏.

Kumbakonam is basically a temple city. You can see many temples there and this Adi kumbheshwar Kovil is one of the most important temples in the city. When I went, they were doing some renovation work inside, so I couldn’t take in the full vibe of the place. But the highlight? The temple elephant! It’s right there, and people love getting blessings from it—it’s a sweet experience to hang out with that gentle giant. Coming in through the main entrance, you’ll notice a long corridor flanked by rows of quirky shops. They’re brimming with brass, bronze, copper kitchenware—great bargains if you're into traditional metal utensils. It really gives off the feel of old-school marketplace charm right before you step into the temple.

Mottai Gopura Vasal Adi Kumbeshvarar Temple, Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu A sacred and historically rich temple located in the heart of Kumbakonam, the Adi Kumbeshvarar Temple is one of the most important and spiritually powerful Shiva temples in South India. The temple is believed to mark the origin of Kumbakonam itself — where Lord Shiva, in the form of Adi Kumbeshwarar, is said to have created the world after the cosmic deluge. The “Mottai Gopuram” (meaning the gateway without a tower) gives the temple its unique character and charm. Inside, the temple complex is vast and filled with beautifully carved pillars, ancient shrines, and vibrant paintings that reflect the Chola period’s rich craftsmanship. The atmosphere is deeply peaceful, especially during early mornings and temple rituals. Priests perform the poojas with devotion and care, and the temple is well-maintained with clean surroundings and organized darshan queues. The annual Mahamaham festival held here attracts thousands of devotees and fills the entire town with spiritual energy. A visit to this temple is both humbling and inspiring — it offers a glimpse into Tamil Nadu’s deep-rooted temple culture, architectural beauty, and unwavering faith. Truly a must-visit for anyone traveling through Kumbakonam.

The Adi Kumbeswarar Temple, located in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, is a significant Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Also known as Thirukudamooku, it is one of the prominent Paadal Petra Sthalams (temples revered in the 7th-century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, by the Nayanmar saints). Here’s a concise history of the temple: Historical Background • Construction: The temple was primarily built during the Chola dynasty in the 9th century CE, with later expansions and renovations by the Vijayanagara rulers and Thanjavur Nayaks in the 15th–17th centuries. It is believed to be over 1,200 years old, with its origins tied to the Chola period. • Patronage: The temple was maintained by the Cholas, Nayaks, and later by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Tamil Nadu Government. Mythological Significance • Origin of Kumbakonam: The temple’s name and the city of Kumbakonam are derived from a legend. During a cosmic dissolution (pralaya), Lord Brahma created a pot (kumbha) containing the seeds of life and the nectar of immortality (amrita), which was set adrift in the floodwaters. Lord Shiva, disguised as a hunter, shot an arrow at the pot, causing the nectar to spill and mix with the sand, forming a unique conical Shiva Lingam, the Adi Kumbeswarar Lingam, at the spot where Kumbakonam now stands. This event is said to mark the origin of life in the current yuga. • Name Derivation: The term “Kumbakonam” comes from kumbha (pot) and konam (angle or bend), referring to the slightly tilted shape of the Shiva Lingam. The temple is also called Thirukudamooku (kuda = pot, mooku = nostril or tip), as the nectar flowed through the pot’s nostril-like opening. Architectural Features • Structure: The temple spans 30,181 square feet (approximately 4 acres) and features a rectangular layout with an east-west orientation. It has three concentric compounds and four gateway towers (gopurams), with the eastern tower being the tallest at 128 feet with 11 stories. • Main Deity: Lord Shiva, worshipped as Adi Kumbeswarar, is represented by a unique conical Shiva Lingam, believed to be formed by Shiva mixing nectar and sand. If you’re visiting Thanjavur, this temple is a must-see and one of the Great Living Chola Temples — also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located about 30 km from Thanjavur city, it’s easy to reach by bus, and from the bus stop, it’s just a short, pleasant walk to the temple. Compared to the famous Brihadeeswarar Temple, Airavateswara Temple is much less crowded, which makes it perfect for visitors who want to take their time and really enjoy the art and atmosphere. The carvings, sculptures, and architectural details are truly breathtaking — they reflect the skill and grandeur of the Chola period. The temple complex is beautifully landscaped, with plenty of tamarind trees, benches, and shaded areas where you can sit and relax. It’s clean, peaceful, and well maintained — ideal for photography, quiet exploration, or simply soaking in the heritage.

Fantastic! It's a world hearitage site The Airavatesvara Temple is a breathtaking masterpiece of Chola architecture and one of the most beautifully preserved temples in South India. Built by Rajaraja Chola II in the 12th century, it’s smaller than the Brihadeeswarar Temple at Thanjavur, but the level of intricate detail here is truly astonishing. Every stone carving feels alive — from delicate dancers and musicians to mythological stories sculpted with precision. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped here as Airavatesvara, named after Airavata, the white elephant of Indra, who is believed to have worshipped Shiva at this site. The highlight is the stone chariot-shaped front mandapa and the musical steps that produce notes when tapped — a brilliant example of Chola craftsmanship and engineering. The temple complex is serene, rarely crowded, and well-maintained by the ASI, making it a perfect place to explore history in peace. The surrounding village of Darasuram adds to the charm, offering a glimpse of Tamil Nadu’s living heritage and traditional lifestyle. I have shoot some short videos and some tile lapse video to have a short look ! Must visit place ❤️

The Airavateshwara Temple in Kumbakonam is a stunning masterpiece of Chola architecture and devotion. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is smaller in scale compared to the Brihadeeswarar Temple, but equally magnificent in craftsmanship. Every stone and sculpture tells a story — from intricate carvings to beautifully detailed pillars and mandapams. The temple exudes serenity and ancient charm, offering a glimpse into the Chola dynasty’s artistic brilliance. A UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s an absolute must-visit for history lovers, devotees, and architecture enthusiasts alike.

This one of the best kept secret of Tamil Nadu. The temple complex is well preserved. The pillars are very beautiful. The location itself is very offbeat but it is a must visit place if you're planning for a Tamil Nadu Trip. Best part was no crowd on weekend.

Airavatesvara Temple is an extraordinary showcase of Chola architecture, and the intricate stone carvings and overall design are truly mesmerizing. Every corner of the temple reflects the artistic brilliance and engineering mastery of the era. However, it was disappointing to see many young visitors misusing the premises like a public park, which takes away from the sanctity and heritage value of this UNESCO site. Stricter regulations and monitoring should be enforced to preserve the temple’s cultural and historical significance for future generations.

Airavateshwara Temple isn’t just built, it’s composed — a Chola marvel where stone chariot halls, singing steps, and centuries of devotion meet. Dedicated to Shiva worshipped as Airavateshwara, this sacred place is woven with legends of Airavata and Yama finding healing in its holy waters. A living UNESCO heritage wonder, it remains a divine verse in stone that continues to whisper history, art, and faith

The Shri Kailasanathar Temple in Thingalur (திங்களூர் அருள்மிகு கைலாசநாதர் சுவாமி திருக்கோவில்) is one of the most significant pilgrimage sites in Tamil Nadu, particularly renowned as a "Chandran Temple" (Moon God). Here are the key details about the temple: Primary Significance * Navagraha Sthalam: It is one of the nine Navagraha (nine celestial bodies) temples in Tamil Nadu, specifically dedicated to Chandra Bhagwan (the Moon God, known as Thingal in Tamil). * Presiding Deities: The main deity is Lord Shiva, worshipped as Kailasanathar (also Kailasanathaswamy), and his consort is Goddess Periyanayaki (or Brihannayaki Ambal). The temple is famous for the separate shrine of Chandra Bhagwan. * Parikara Sthalam: Devotees visit here to seek relief from Chandra Dosha (afflictions caused by the Moon in astrology) to gain mental peace, clarity, and well-being. History and Legend * Builder: The original structure is believed to have been built by the Chola kings, with later masonry work and renovations by the Nayak rulers in the 16th century. * Legend of Chandra: According to the Sthala Puranam, Chandra (Moon) married 27 daughters of Daksha Prajapati but showed undue preference for one, Rohini. This led to a curse from Daksha that made Chandra lose his luster (the waxing and waning). Chandra performed a severe penance on Lord Shiva at this spot and was relieved of his curse, regaining his brightness. As a mark of his gratitude, Chandra is believed to have worshipped Shiva here. * Nayanmar Connection: Thingalur is the birthplace of Appudhi Adigal, one of the 63 Nayanmars (Saiva saint-poets). The story of Saint Thirunavukkarasar (Appar) reviving Appudhi Adigal's son from a snake bite is famously associated with this village. Architectural and Cultural Highlights * Architecture: The temple follows the Dravidian style of architecture and features a recently built three-tiered Rajagopuram (main tower). * Annual Phenomenon: It is believed that during the Tamil months of Purattasi (Sep-Oct) and Panguni (Mar-Apr), the moonlight falls directly upon the main deity, Lord Kailasanathar, which is considered an auspicious event. * Special Ritual: The temple is a noted location for Anna Prasanam (the first feeding of rice to an infant child), a ceremony considered highly auspicious to be performed here. Location The temple is located in the village of Thingalur in the Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, situated on the Kumbakonam - Thiruvaiyaru road.

Usually lord abisegam happens on Mondays twice, one is 6-7am and another is 9-10am. So the 1hr archanai will be stopped. Plan it accordingly on Mondays. Temple timings attached in the picture below. Parking available huge space. Lord Chandran and Kailyasanathar bless us all gracefully 🙏

You can also light 10 lamps for ₹50—coupons are available at the entrance counter. Clean toilets are conveniently located next to the temple.

There is a 100 pillar murugan temple which is unfortunately closed most of the time. Amman temple is by right side and there is a three legged rishi and a mother carrying the child in hand an praying and the child hugging mother hip sideways. The nandi will go to seven temples during festival time they are Thiruvanjiyam Thiruvenkadu Thirumayiladuthurai, Thiruvidai Marudur and Thiruchaikadu and finally rest at thillai sthanam near grand anaicut. There is no vishnu temple in thiruvaiyaru town is another important feature. Located in Tiruchirapalli, this temple stands as one of the most beautiful and spiritually powerful places in India. Dedicated to Lord Ranganatha, a reclining form of Lord Vishnu, the temple is not just a place of worship but a living example of South Indian art, architecture, and devotion. The temple complex is massive and feels like a city in itself, surrounded by seven walls and twenty-one magnificent towers (gopurams). The main Rajagopuram, which is the tallest in Asia, is an architectural wonder — beautifully carved and painted, visible from a long distance. Walking through its ancient stone corridors, you can sense the centuries of faith and devotion that have filled this place. The atmosphere inside is peaceful yet vibrant. The chants, the smell of incense, and the sight of the beautifully decorated deity create an aura of positivity and calmness. The priests and temple staff are polite and helpful, and the arrangements are well-organized despite the large number of devotees. What touched me most was the feeling of serenity and connection I felt during darshan. It’s a place where faith feels alive. The temple also holds immense cultural importance, especially during Vaikunta Ekadasi, when thousands of devotees gather in divine celebration. Goddess Akhilandeshwari (Parvati) — consort of Lord Shiva, residing in her own separate shrine within the same complex. 🔱 Spiritual Significance It represents the "Neer (Water) Tatva" among the Pancha Bhoota Stalams (temples representing five natural elements): 1. Earth (Prithvi) – Ekambareswarar Temple (Kanchipuram) 2. Water (Appu) – Jambukeshwarar Temple (Srirangam/Thiruvanaikaval) 3. Fire (Agni) – Arunachaleswarar Temple (Tiruvannamalai) 4. Air (Vayu) – Srikalahasti Temple 5. Sky (Akasha) – Chidambaram Natarajar Temple Inside the sanctum, water constantly springs up around the Shiva Linga, symbolizing the element of water — a rare and divine feature. 🕉️ Legend (Purana) According to legend: Goddess Parvati, as Akhilandeshwari, performed severe penance here under the instruction of Lord Shiva, worshipping a Linga made of water (Appu Linga). Pleased by her devotion, Shiva appeared and taught her spiritual wisdom. The temple hence symbolizes the Guru–Shishya (Teacher–Disciple) relationship between Shiva and Parvati. 🏛️ Architecture Built in Dravidian style by the Early Cholas (around 2nd century CE), later expanded by Pandya and Nayaka kings. The temple has 5 enclosures (Prakarams) and majestic Gopurams (towers). The Akhilandeshwari shrine has exquisite decorations and the goddess’s earrings are said to be changed twice a year during special rituals. 📅 Temple Timings Morning: 5:30 AM – 12:00 PM Evening: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Timings can vary during festivals.) 🎉 Important Festivals Panguni Brahmotsavam (March–April) Aadi Pooram (Goddess Akhilandeshwari’s special day) Navaratri celebrations are grand here. Maha Shivaratri – observed with great devotion. 🧭 How to Reach Distance: 2 km from Srirangam Temple, 8 km from Trichy Junction. Easily reachable by auto-rickshaw, local bus, or taxi. Nearest Airport: Tiruchirappalli (about 12 km). 🌸 Special Highlights The Akhilandeshwari idol is said to radiate immense energy. To soften it, Sri Adi Shankaracharya installed two Sri Chakra Yantras (one in each ear) and designed her beautiful Thadanga (ear ornaments). The temple is serene, with sacred ponds and beautiful stone carvings.

This temple in Srirangam is around 2 kms from the more famous Ranganatha temple. It is dedicated to Jambukeshwarar (Shiva) and Akhilandeswari (Parvathi). Legend has it that Parvathi prayed in the Jambu forrest and created a lingam made of water from Kaveri river. This temple is one of the pancha bhoota sthalams, signifying water as its element. As one enters one of the gopurams, one gets the feeling that the temple is relatively small with an open space, pond and gardens. When one goes further inside, the massive enclosure in which the temple stands reveals itself. The precincts are beautiful, some of them with many ornate pillars. The sanctum of the temple is dedicated to Lord Jambukeshwarar and is a small space where not more than 5 people can stand at a time. It is a beautiful structure and a must visit for anyone visiting Srirangam/Trichy along with the Ranganatha temple. We did not see any designated parking around the temple and had to park on one of the lanes in the vicinity.

Divine Evening Visit to Jambukeshwara Temple We visited the Jambukeshwara Temple in the evening, and it was a serene and peaceful experience. This temple represents the Jala Lingam (water element) among the five Panchabootha Lingas, and it was our final stop to complete the sacred journey of all five. The temple’s architecture is beautiful, and the spiritual energy inside is truly calming. The approach roads are quite narrow, but there is sufficient parking space near the temple. Inside, we were delighted to see the temple elephant, which added to the traditional and sacred atmosphere. The priests were polite and helpful, and the overall experience was memorable and spiritually fulfilling — highly recommended for anyone visiting Trichy!

A simple yet beautiful Shiva shrine surrounded by an awe-inspiring enclosure of mandapams and pathways. The entrance, with the Nandi Mandapam and its four gigantic pillars, is among the most magnificent in any South Indian temple. Visit very much recommended. There is a new rule of no photography but you can carry your cames in the temple.

Visiting the Jambukeswarar Temple in Trichy was a peaceful and grounding experience. The quiet atmosphere, the sound of flowing water near the sanctum, and the ancient stone architecture made me feel connected to something timeless. I was especially moved by the story of the goddess worshipping Lord Shiva—there’s a calm, almost meditative energy there. It’s a place that stays with you. The santity left me with a sense of inner peace and awe for the depth of South Indian temple traditions. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in spirituality, history, or architecture. I found the temple to be not just a religious site, but a space where history, mythology, and spiritual energy merge.

On weekdays the temple here usually open at 5.00am and closes at 12.30 pm. And opens again at 4.00pm. One suggestion to all travelers do not refer timings given on Google to schedule your visit. When in trichy, you can go to this temple but please make sure you are fit to climb around 300 steps. If you have any knee pain or foot pain, please skip this temple. Visit this temple only by taking an auto as its located in a very chaotic and busy lanes of the market area.

Sri Ayyappan Temple, a Hindu temple established in the 1970s, is located in Trichy and features a tropical garden, meditation areas, and multiple shrines. The temple is known for its Kerala-themed architecture and strict adherence to dress code and rules within the premises. Devotees are not allowed to use mobile phones or cameras inside. A divine space filled with silence and serenity, perfect for peaceful prayers. Strict dress code is followed to avoid jeans, leggings, and ensure a dupatta for traditional wear Mobile phones are restricted inside, making it ideal for undisturbed devotion. More seating near the sanctum would be helpful

Most peaceful place to ever to be visited. I visited the place right on the day of kaarthigai Deepam 2024 on a Friday midst the cloudy day with drizzles then and there. The whole place didn’t give a feel of I’m in one of the big cities with too many people rather just gave a serene peace and thoughtfulness with all the chanting and silence. Mobile phones aren’t allowed with respect to any modes(no calls, no photos, no videos). The staff was good but they first had a thing when I was on call entering the temple without knowing the no phone rule by later on everything where chill. Make sure you visit this place atleast once.

A beautifully maintained temple located within Trichy city limits. We visited on a weekday, and it was peaceful with very minimal crowd. Parking was easy and the entire premises is clean and well cared for, including the toilets. The temple is surrounded by greenery, with neatly maintained gardens, a meditation area, and fish ponds that add to the calm atmosphere. One unique feature is the presence of sacred stones brought from various places for worship. A serene and spiritually enriching place to visit.

Lord Ayyappan can be worshipped very closely and idol will be very visible for all. Main peaceful here in this temple no money for darshan. Here women's are allowed with dress code and if you don't have dupatta, management will provide it free of cost for entering as per their dress code. Management makes every possible way to make the women's visit their temple. But people coming without proper planning sometimes suffering because of Dress code. Pls keep it in mind many of them working in this temple are volunteers. So your vetti bandha,Big family things, Vip will not work here mostly. Follow the simple rule,no one will ask you any questions. Go, Enjoy the nature, Worship the God, feel the inner peace by doing meditation and relax. By this way you will feel blessed
