Waterfalls
Rutor Falls is a stunning natural attraction that captivates visitors with its powerful and visually striking display of cascading water. The falls are particularly popular during the spring and summer months when the glacier melts, causing an increased water flow. A scenic trail crosses the falls, offering hikers an easy yet breathtaking experience as they encounter three distinct waterfalls along the way. The route also leads to Rifugio Albert Deffeyes, providing panoramic views of Mont Blanc, nearby glaciers, and lakes.
A beauty. Walking through the falls has been quite an experience. Kids will love it. The full walk stretches through the upper lake and gets to the root of the glacier. It takes 3 hours in total. Around 1000m from bottom to the top. Worth it.
Giacomo M — Google review
Amazing experience when you arrive at the third waterfall... 1.30 to 2 hours of hiking if you stop at each waterfall to take a photo :) The parking was a paid parking lot with 5 euros per day price but the machine was not working so no one paid! The bar was closed too when we arrived at the parking. But it was a wonderful experience.
Mohsen M — Google review
Relatively easy walk to get to the falls, culminating with a quite spectacular bridge that crosses the water. It's worth closing the path down with the ring path so as to avoid doing the same way twice
Thomas A — Google review
Worth the hike to the third waterfall. Stunning views. Lots of places to stop and rest if needed. Options for looping back down the other side. Loved it
Rachel D — Google review
This trail, that crosses Rutor falls is just wonderful. Really astonishing, impressive and clean nature plus the hike is very easy. It crosses 3 falls and there are plenty options to go such as all the way up to Rifugio Albert Deffeyes. On this route after the amazing falls you will find a beautiful green and moist valley. After that, it goes up another 346 meters and you can have a great view to Mont Blanc and many glaciers and lakes near by. It's a very special hike in Aosta Valley. Absolutely recommended if you search for something technically feasible and a rich, fascinating environment as well.
Miran H — Google review
One of the best footpath that you can do in La Thuile area, starting from la Joux the road is not so difficult, you don't need to be an expert climber but bring with you some water and a raincoat. The water shows is simply amazing especially at the 3rd waterfall. Recommended 👍👍👍
Jan E — Google review
Really amazing. The falls are impressive. The hiking need to be prepared because is not so easy for the length and for the gradient. I suggest to take some water with you because till to the refuge is not possible to found any fountain. Take time to climb till the Deffeys refuge will pay you about the fatigue and the high gradient.

Little St Bernard Pass, also known as Colle del Piccolo San Bernardo, is a high-elevation route that offers a blend of natural beauty and historical significance. The area boasts ancient stone relics at the summit and a botanical garden. It has been inhabited and frequented in various historical eras, leaving behind intriguing traces for visitors to explore. Beautiful road! Not very high, but very beautiful. The Little St Bernard Pass (Italian: Colle del Piccolo San Bernardo) is a mountain pass in the Alps on the France–Italy border. Its saddle is at 2188 metres above sea level. It is located between Savoie, France, and Aosta Valley, Italy, to the south of the Mont Blanc Massif, exactly on the main alpine watershed.

Breathtaking mountain pass between Italy and France with a lake nearby ... great for a walk or hiking if weather is on your side
Enjoy L — Google review
Empty and quiet as it closed earlier in the month we think. But beautiful with great views and lots of history - prehistory, Roman, medieval, WW2. Even great on a rainy day.

I very blessed full with this random tour and find great spot like Petit st Bernard. Must stop here and enjoy their coffee
Rudi N — Google review
Beautiful mountain pass on the French - Italian border with a good souvenier store.

Ancient old glacier sphere Valley. Wind blows through the majestic landscape. It is a border between Italy and France where you can enjoy a quiet scenery as there are not many tourists. Winter will be crowded with many skiers.

Most wonderful scenic road to crossing border between Italy and France. Once in a lifetime, that car from Bangkok can drive to here.

Bossons Glacier

Mentioned on
+32 other lists
Glacier
Nature & Parks
Bossons Glacier, situated in the Mont Blanc massif in Chamonix, France, is a remarkable natural wonder known for its imposing icefall and impressive crevasses. Visitors can access this enormous mountain glacier via hiking trails or a chair lift that takes them to a chalet with a restaurant at an elevation of 1,425m. The glacier offers breathtaking views and hikers can take a 2.
Hiked from the bus stop around 8.5km, 4 hours, 1,600 m. ascent, we will see the fantastic view.
Junlawat K — Google review
Took the ski lift at bossons and ended up at the cute refuge, and the start of the TMB la jonction path! Don’t attempt this path on a foggy day or if you’re not prepared!!! When I got up to the start, it was too foggy to undergo the hike, but there was a quick 10min path to the left behind the refuge where you get to learn a little bit about history, see a photo time lapse board showing the glacier retreat and gets you to a view point for the glacier itself. Definitely worth it to come by and check it out!
Carrie L — Google review
Go for it, as long as it’s there. Amazing. For example: use Chairlift, then 1.5h walk towards glacier = amazing view and relatively close. Even with Children no Problem, easy walk and worth it
Mat H — Google review
Incredibly blessed to hike up to the high viewpoint- incredible views and relatively easy hike. We went with two young kids under 8 years old and we took 2hrs17mins hiking up the +/-5km with a lunch stop and rest moments along the way. We are from the Netherlands, so we are not accustomed to mountain hiking.
Bronwyn W — Google review
Beautiful glacier. It’s a shame it won’t be here in the next 50 years.
R B — Google review
Nature's wonder. A two hour trek from the base. Worth a visit.

Tunnel du Mont-Blanc

Tunnel
Nature & Parks
The Tunnel du Mont-Blanc is an 11km-long highway tunnel that was built between 1959 and 1965, linking France with Italy. It is a major transportation route for travelers crossing between the two countries and is celebrated for its engineering marvel and breathtaking views of the French Alps. The area around the tunnel offers a variety of trail running routes, ranging from shorter day runs to classic ultra trail routes, catering to runners of all levels.
The Mont Blanc Tunnel is certainly the fastest route connecting Courmayeur and Chamonix.
I have been using the tunnel for thirty-five years, having lived for a long time both in the Aosta Valley and in Chamonix. For years, I used it twice a day, so I know it very well. Its length is 11.6 km.
The journey takes about 15 minutes.
The maximum speed allowed is 70 km/h, with overtaking prohibited for the entire length of the tunnel.
The minimum distance between vehicles must be 150 meters (equivalent to two blue lights apart). All traffic and any driver irregularities are monitored by security cameras and special systems designed to detect violations.
If an infraction is committed inside the tunnel, the vehicle is immediately stopped at the exit, both on the Italian and French sides. The price for a round trip ticket is: * Car (Class 1): €68 * Vans and campers (Class 2): €91 * Motorcycles (Class 5): €45 You can find the updated price list and further information on the official website: www.tunnelmb.net

Yes, at 56 Euros for one way it is a total rip off. But, for more than half a year you have no other option. The San Bernardo Pass is usually closed November till end of May/early June, likewise the southern Petit St. Bernard. Even when those two being open, calculate the fuel and time consumed....it's 2,5-3 hours drive from Chamonix to Aosta, compared to one hour via tunnel. We waited something around an hour to enter and once inside set the tempomat to 60 km/h. It's only a single lane each way and you must drive min 50, max 70 km/h. Tunnel is 11,5 km long and you need around 10 min to drive it
Dejan B — Google review
We crossed the tunnel from the French side. We did not know that the crossing was toll-based and we were very surprised by its huge cost of 55 euros. Nowhere was it indicated in advance that this passage was toll-based. We traveled by electric car and would have preferred to drive an extra 2 hours on beautiful roads (July 22) than to stand in line for 1.5 hours and then drive through the tunnel.
Nataliia K — Google review
While visiting Courmayeur from chamonix in france we went through this tunnel. A real architectural marvel being the tunnel just going right below the famous mount blanc or del monte. There is always a delay of 30 minutes to start with because the vehicles are allowed automatically with a gap of 150 metres between two vehicles. It is only a two lane tunnel road with no median and hence the delay , This reduces the time from france to Turin atleast by two hours. Well ventilated and lighted tunnel road. Being monotonous and simple straight line road we have to be careful while driving . Maximum speed of 70 km we have travelled.
Sundararajan V — Google review
How often do you get to drive thru an 11 km long tunnel? Worth the wait (which really wasn't bad) and it was a ton of fun going up the hill in 1st gear with a manual transmission! There was also a large, beautiful mountain waterfall to look at on the way up!
John P — Google review
We waited 3 hours to enter the tunnel from the Italian side. The tunnel website said that traffic was flowing! It was true, but you had to get to the tunnel entrance. It would certainly be faster to go through the St. Bernard Pass. And it would be cheaper.
Irma G — Google review
On this occasion we came back into France via the tunnel, which now costs €55 - (up €10 from 2yrs ago) To be honest the whole experience was spoilt by the disorganised & unfair queuing system in operation on the Italian side. As you approach the tunnel, traffic is directed into two lanes; one for lorries & buses and the other cars. The problem is that after the official in the fluorescent jacket monitoring the lanes moved away lots of cars started using the commercial lane & ended up pushing in nearer the tunnel entrance. The situation is further exasperated by the fact that if you follow the correct left hand lane, there is only one toll booth taking payment at the entrance, whereas the commercial lane was serviced by three toll booths . We joined the queue at 700m and it still took us nearly an hour & a half to get to the tunnel entrance. Personally, I think the cost is a bit of a rip off, but it does save time & I appreciate for much of the year it’s the only option. My advice would be, that if at all possible use the right hand lorry / bus lane as it will probably save you at least an hour queueing.

ML was an amazing instructor, giving my teenage daughters the confidence they needed to really enjoy a morning rafting from Landry, and kindly speaking in English as well as French. The river was spectacular, with some good class 3 and 4 rapids, and a 5m cliff jump, surrounded by beautiful scenery including a dramatic gorge, an eagle’s nest and evidence of beavers too. A massive thanks to ML and the team for an unforgettable day. You made us very happy! James, Flora and Annabelle
James W — Google review
We would like to thank Alexandre for the great adventure! He helped us really good. We spotted a beautiful chamois on the mountain. We could see him climb and eat the tree leaves. We had a swim and a great 5m high jump into the cold water. Thank you so much for those great memories that will stay forever. We love rafting, la douce france, kisses from Belgium
Info D — Google review
A truly exhilarating experience. Martin (ML), was our instructor and he could not have been more reassuring to those on the boat with less confidence and who were a bit apprehensive. He was highly knowledgeable of the water and made us all feel safe. On the rapid sections Martin used clear and concise commands which were easy to follow and on the calmer sections we enjoyed Martin’s local knowledge of the river ecosystem and history of the area. 5 stars all-round and highly recommend.
Benjamin P — Google review
Such a great day!! Super easy to get to. Supplied everything we needed, boots, wetsuit and top with plenty of sizes. The guide Thibaut was wonderful speaking in English and French all whilst steering the raft. We did the “active” experience which involved some decent drops and splashes along the way.
Marissa S — Google review
Brilliant rafting down Les Gorge. Instructor Alexandre was absolutely excellent and made it incredible fun. We rafted down rapids, jumped off ledges and had some time floating down the river too. An excellent morning!
Annabel R — Google review
We spent half a day white water rafting with Evo2 in Landry a week ago and had an amazing experience. Very professional set-up and great instructors. ML was excellent and gave us full confidence and special mention to our instructor Myrtille who was brilliant, positive and fun. Myself and my 3 children (aged 10, 12, 14) had the best experience (including the cliff jumps!) and could not fault it. It was our highlight activity from a fun-packed week in Tignes. Thank you to all the staff. Would highly recommend.
Hideki N — Google review
Hydrospeed with Edouard was a super cool experience, we had a lot of fun, and we were in good hands. Organization was great, there is a friendly ambience at base too, 100/10 recommended. 🙌🏻 Thank you for the full team!

For the parking there are 3 main areas to park (P1 -P2-P3)
M — Google review
Really super day, but we are keen walkers and wildlife watchers. Daughter loved seeing the animals in their natural habitat. The only thing I would say is that it isn't very clear that the bus doesn't run on a weekend and it is a strenuous walk up to the park from Les Houches.
Wanderinggecko — Google review
The 4th visit, 1st time with the Family and they loved it. We managed to see most of the animals. The walk from parking to the park is very steep and may be ling depending how crowded it is and if you have elders or children.
Yazeed A — Google review
One of the best activities in the area! I really enjoyed the hiking trail, and the animals are absolutely beautiful. If you’re an animal lover, you’ll definitely enjoy it. It’s also very kid-friendly. 💙 Note: It’s best to drive all the way to P1, as the hike to the entrance is quite long.
Yusa Z — Google review
Doesn’t worth the entry fee. Limited number of animals. It’s fare to say that they charge for the view. The view to Month Blanc is great. Beautiful scenery. There isn’t even a decent bench to sit and have a snack.
The B — Google review
Really lovely place to walk around and see the animals, we didn't see everything but we did see Marmots which my children were very happy about. There are a few places to park but it's quite a walk from the car parks up the hill to the entrance - try and park as close as you can, don't stop at the first place you see. When we visited in the afternoon, we drove as far as we could up the road and found a spot in the top car park - if we had taken the first slot we saw, we would have over 1km to walk up which, with 2 small children, would have been painful. You need to reserve online before going - you pay when you get there , The views of the surrounding area are fantastic. There's a cafe and gift shop, all over priced as you'd expect...
Richard F — Google review
I was in Chamonix for 8 days and think that here’s the highlight of the trip. Stunning views and wildlife in combo. Fantastic! Remember to reserve in advance

La Plagne is a renowned ski resort that offers a variety of winter activities, including a terrain park and options for dining and entertainment. The journey to the mountain road is surprisingly manageable, with expansive views along the way. As you approach the ski villages, you'll notice modest ski lifts catering to local day visitors before encountering more upscale signage and accommodations as you delve deeper into La Plagne's extensive skiing area.
A stunning ski resort! The natural surroundings are breathtaking, and the slopes are fantastic. There is an extensive variety of runs suitable for all skill levels, ensuring everyone can find something they enjoy. The resort offers a wide range of activities beyond skiing, so there’s always something to do. Waiting times for lifts are generally minimal, which is a big plus. The overall atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, making it an ideal place to unwind and truly enjoy skiing. We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great skiing experience at La Plagne!

The ski resort is very large and you can have fun regardless of your skiing level. There are also many hiking trails that allow for wonderful snowshoe hikes. The natural surroundings and views are fantastic.
Diana M — Google review
Arguably one of the ugliest ski resorts in the French alps, however, this is in stark contrast to the excellent ski area, fast lifts and varied terrain. If you are an avid skier or snowboarder this is one of if not the best resort in the alps to visit.

This was my first time skiing in the Alps. I highly recommend this resort to all skiers ⛷️ and snowboarders. You will love the slopes, people, and food.
Casey S — Google review
Great ski resort. The blue slopes are really nice, good lift access. Lots of restaurants but need more vegan options

Amazing ski resort! Several ski slopes and many possibilities for other activities. The bobsleigh descent is unforgettable.

Beautiful well designed apartments for skiers and walkers (depending on the season). Beautiful views of the mountains and lifts (depending on which side you're on I suppose). The apartments are compact but with 2 twin bedrooms, 2 bunks and a double sofa bed, with ease you could fit 8 people in ours. Galley style kitchen is best suited to one person cooking at a time so pre-plan to share the cooking duties if possible. Good extractor fan and each apartment is well appointed with plates and cutlery for 16 (2 meals a day) and a dishwasher as well as breakfast bowls and a host of utensils. We were only short a grater and a potato masher (apparently not French essentials). There a multiple lifts to various parts of the buildings as well as a lot of basement bootrooms/lockers to store your boots and skis and keep your apartment dry. The complex has a code entry to the pool, when you want access - daytime only (closes at 7) and no access on Saturday (change over day) with a new code each week. A 5 minute walk to the local Spar shop makes this a very convenient location with a Restaurant next door to the Spar as well as one opposite the entrance to Lagranges. The Ski and board hire shop is spitting distant from the complex check-in with convenient ski racks located around to stash your skis whilst you buy passes or snacks. The ski-pass system is very flexible at the resort with options for beginners being circa €35 a day, half day options, full resort passes, multi-resort passes and a pedestrian access pass to access the top of glacier via bubble lift for only €8! Superb. The resort is at 1800m so well above the snowline with easy access up to 3000m for fresher snow more often. Snowed again just as we left so if you're looking right now it's perfect for a last minute get away (9/01/23) enjoy! Back again for New Year 2024 - snowed every day so far and the trails are well groomed. Swimming Pool has been renovated as well as the wooden features across the resort.
Coralie T — Google review
Great ski resort especially if your using a motorhome parked right next to the main run back to La Plagne. Electric at the end of every row (which didnt trip once) and water is located at a hut at the entrance of site (short slippery walk). The while of thus network is mostly made up of about 70% blues 25% Reds and 5%blacks although many of the blues are more red like. Some great places to eat around the area but it is pricey.. €9-11 a pint !!! Food is around normally UK prices. The roads leading up the mountain to Villages was always mint ( the French know how todo it) the only time we had to put chains on was at the start of the aire as its not as well maintained as the main roads. I'd defo go back to this site and la plagne.

We had such an amazing experience today with Boris, James and all the team. Safe but so much fun. Really good instruction (in English too) If you’re looking for a brilliant white water rafting experience this is it. We had so much fun in the boat but also jumping in from 6 meters or less if you prefer, floating down the river and even a beer at the end. Brilliant day! Book it!

(Translated by Google) I had a fantastic experience at this rafting club. The staff all radiate enthusiasm and passion, and they know how to convey this to their guests. Some staff members can speak English perfectly. Parking is free in the vast grounds of the swimming lake, including right in front of the rafting club. Yes, rafting is expensive everywhere, but it's a fantastic experience. You'll be rafting with about 8 people in a boat on a river with good speed. Definitely not boring and not too rough, so it's also perfect for children. Note that it's for ages 8 and up, but it would actually be better for ages 10 and up. This is due to the force of paddling and the fact that you can sometimes bounce quite a bit (but still manageable!). You'll receive plenty of instruction, and there's a short break along the way so you can jump off a rock or swim for a bit. Our instructor, who speaks excellent English, shared our enthusiasm and deserves a compliment. This club is highly recommended! Afterward, you can relax on the beach or in the grass by the swimming lake.

I would like to thank all the Oxygene ski shop Team & also the Instructors for there efficient, friendly service that me & my family had over this Christmas period. Not only did we get fantastic ski & snowboard equipment but my wife & son also had several days of group ski & snowboard classes which they loved 👏🏼 Oxygene is for sure the best in La Plagne & now in a lot of other resorts across France. I recommend also trying the Electric Snow Bikes as I went with my son & the tour was a blast & the guide was super friendly & Profesional. Once again thanks to Oxygene Ski Snowboard bike for a great vacation 🤝 100% Recomended 🤙

Amazing Ski School! Our family have had the best experience with Oxygene. Christelle taught our daughter to ski at 2 years old with both group and private lessons, Now she skis confidently on the blues at 3 years old. Christelle and lea make the ski lessons fun whilst prioritising safety. I had a adult private lesson with Morgan too which helped me rectify a few bad habits. 👏👍🏻

My daughter had 6 private lessons with Guillaume and it did not disappoint. The improvement and progression for her was remarkable with the 1-2-1 coaching. So much so we have booked the same again in April to continue her coaching with the same instructor

I took private lessons with Oxygen and it went very well! Big thank you to the instructor Alex, he helped to increase my confidence in skiing, as I am a beginner. It was the first time for me to go all the way down from the top of the mountain, amazing experience! As a big advantage was the free shuttle from Aime 2000 to the school.

I went skiing for the first time last week so joined the discovery group for 6 lessons. We had a fantastic experience with our ski instructor, François! He was incredibly patient and took the time to explain everything clearly, making sure both myself and my partner felt comfortable every step of the way. His friendly and encouraging approach made the lessons enjoyable, and we both made great progress. Highly recommend François for anyone looking to improve their skiing skills!

My children (14 and 16) had a fantastic week with Pierre in level 3 adults class. He was very enthusiastic and friendly, with perfect English and great teaching skills. The picnic he brought on the last day was highly appreciated by the group. I highly recommend Oxygene and Pierre for lessons in La Plagne

We booked private lessons for our two boys, ages 4 and 7, with Christelle. I was so nervous, particularly about leaving my youngest who can be a handful, but she was so reassuring and immediately had a great rapport with the children. I felt that the children were really safe in her hands. They progressed so much and they absolutely loved her! She also sent me lots of photos and videos of them in their lessons. We will definitely book again with Oxygène if we come back. We will request Christelle!

Val Thorens is a ski resort located in Europe, established in 1971. It sits at the highest altitude and offers top-notch ski slopes, terrain parks and modern lifts. The town is considered as the hub of skiing in Europe, with a variety of ski runs that cater to different preferences. Visitors can choose their speed, turns and scenic view before hopping on one of the high-tech lifts available.
This ski resort had so much to enjoy from a skiing perspective and a general good time. There are lots of different runs, ski schools and places to eat on the beautiful mountains. I was unlucky enough to require medical assistance but even that didn’t disappoint, everyone was super great and very friendly.

Amazing ski destination – whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find it here! From easy, chill slopes to wild, uneven runs. The views of the surrounding mountains are absolutely stunning, and the snow conditions are excellent. I did miss having more trees around, as the landscape is very open and a bit desolate – though some people might actually prefer that. If you’re into partying, the town has some great spots – especially if you’re Danish! Just head to Café Snesko – you’re going to love it.

A very good ski resort. From beginners to advanced skiers, you can find good trails that will suit you. Also a very nice apres ski. Lots of hotels offers ski-in ski-out. Val thorens offers ski options when other ski resorts are already closed for the season.
Sigal S — Google review
Val Thorens has a great vibe, there are lots of amazing hotels and bars/restaurants. Shopping is easy with lots of convenience stores and also lots of specialist winter sports stores for all your skiing and snowboarding needs; though be prepared to pay a small (5-10% in my experience) resort premium on purchases here versus high street prices. Internet shopping is clearly the best option before arriving to make sure you get the best prices on equipment. Aside from the great bars and eateries, Val Thorens also has one or two slopes that you can ski and board on. Being a part of 3 Valleys it's a part of the largest ski resort in the world with hundreds of kilometers of groomed slopes. I love the ease of navigating around the resort using the many many lifts. There are runs for all levels, though if you're a complete beginner you may lack variety as there are relatively few green runs compared to other resorts. That being said, there are plenty of blues that are very manageable for beginners. Being at altitude I've found the snow quality and quantity to be better than other resorts in the area, including the 3 Valleys resorts of Courchevel and Meribel. Being lower they can often suffer with either slushy or icy conditions much more so that Val Thorens seems to. Final observation is that Val Thorens is an all ages resort. It doesn't matter if you're a family, young, old, or anywhere in between, Val Thorens has something for everyone, and all coexist peacefully.

The Perfect Destination for Skiing and Relaxation I recently visited this mountain, and I can confidently say it’s a paradise for ski and nature lovers! The area boasts an impressive number of ski slopes, suitable for all levels – from beginners to advanced skiers. The slopes are wide, well-maintained, and offer a safe skiing experience, making every moment on the mountain truly enjoyable. They are impeccably groomed daily, and the snow quality is excellent, no matter the weather. Beyond the slopes, the resort features cozy relaxation areas. The comfortable cabins, cafés with breathtaking views, and heated terraces provide the perfect spot to unwind between ski sessions. Whether you’re passionate about winter sports or just looking for a peaceful retreat in nature, this destination offers the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation. I highly recommend it!

Val Thorens – Where the mountains are majestic and the buildings… aren’t Let’s be honest: Val Thorens is like dating someone with a stunning personality and a questionable wardrobe. The mountains? Absolutely breathtaking. Snow-draped peaks, endless ski runs, and views that make you forget your Wi-Fi password. Nature here is working overtime. And then… there’s the village. The buildings? Imagine 1970s concrete met a ski resort brochure and said, “Let’s do brutalism, but make it beige.” It’s like someone tried to stack shoeboxes in a snowstorm and called it urban planning. Charming? Not exactly. Functional? Sure. Photogenic? Only if you crop aggressively. But hey – you’re not here for the architecture. You’re here to ski, après-ski, and maybe pretend you’re in a Bond film while sipping overpriced vin chaud. And for that, Val Thorens delivers. Just don’t look too hard at the hotel façade on your way down the slope.
Steve M — Google review
Great skiing area. Really enjoyed it. Not pretty in the villages but well makes up for that with the slopes.

At 2350m, snow is not yet an issue. The station is geared towards skiing and cater mainly to an international clientele. British and Dutch mainly. It has the trappings of a small French town with fresh breads, some cafes for drinks and meals but remains a very touristic area. Perfect for skiing. Going to the piste is relatively easy.

Magic Ski and Snowboard School Val Thorens is highly praised for its exceptional ski instruction. The small group and person-centered approach of the instructors have led to significant improvements for many participants. The professionalism, experience, and kindness of the instructors, such as Michel and Luca, have left a lasting impression on the learners. Private lessons catered to various age groups have resulted in great progress and confidence building.
Michele and Christine are the most friendly, patient, and professional instructors I have ever met. Brought me and my family from absolute beginners to Level 2 in just 6 days. Truly gems, could not recommend Oxygen Ski enough!

We enrolled our 6-year-old child in the Oxygen ski school for a week and were very pleased! Our main goal was for her to improve her skiing, and the progress was simply amazing. Compared to other schools we've tried, the results here were significantly better—she became much more confident and skilled on the slopes. Huge thanks to the instructors! A minor downside was the lunch arrangement. Meals were served in a different hotel, and for young kids, carrying their gear and getting there wasn’t the easiest. They were likely assisted, but it still felt a bit inconvenient. Also, the food selection could be a bit more varied. Despite this, if we visit again, we’ll most likely choose Oxygen again—the quality of instruction here is truly outstanding!

Extremely Disappointing Experience – Would Not Recommend This was our first season trying snowboarding, and we were really looking forward to a new and exciting experience. Unfortunately, our time with Oxygene ski and snowboarding school nearly ruined what should have been a special holiday. Despite spending a significant amount of money on lessons, the service we received was appalling. The instructor assigned to us, Daniel, was not only rude and condescending but also completely unprofessional. He was very impatient. Constantly mumble and utter something rude under his breath when me or my daughter fall over, when we didn't hear or understood his instructions. Understandably, we got nervous as it is our first time on the slopes. What’s most upsetting is that he used inappropriate and unacceptable language towards my 12-year-old daughter when I wasn’t present. This is beyond disappointing — it’s infuriating. We call it a quit after the second lessons. I had hoped this company would provide supportive, family-friendly instruction, especially for beginners, but that could not be further from our experience. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel strongly that others should be warned. There are many ski and snowboard schools out there — I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. We went with Prosneige Ski School to continue with our lessons. They are far more better than Oxygene. Their customer service is top notch and the instructor that assigned to us was superb.

Great ski school with fantastic instructors. Small groups guaranteed and of the numbers get slightly high, they add another instructor which is win win! Enzo, FX and Edison were all individually brilliant! They move you up midweek if you improve and the spontaneous hot chocolates were an unexpected bonus! Will be back next year, thanks Oxygene!

We used the Oxygene Ski School in Val Thorens for kids and adults group classes. The classes were brilliant and we improved over the week. The instructors were patient and Francesco was amazing on the first day helping us all settle in. Our kids loved the classes and are keen to return next year. The kids still talk about their sessions and their instructors Enzo and Oscar.

I just got back from a ski trip, and wow, what a turnaround! I've always thought skiing wasn't for me after a pretty rough experience a few years back. But when my friends planned this January getaway, I was hesitant but decided to give it another shot. As soon as I arrived at the hotel, the receptionist mentioned this company called Oxygène . She raved about how they're a small business that genuinely cares for their clients, and I figured, why not trust her? So, I booked a class with Enzo, my instructor for the entire week. On the first day, we tackled a blue slope, and I was amazed at how much my confidence grew. By the end of that first class, I was actually conquering my fears! The second day was even better; I was already navigating blue slopes and starting to feel like a skier. Enzo was incredible—his support and encouragement made skiing feel effortless. Fast forward to the last day, and I found myself zooming down blue and red slopes with my friend, feeling like a pro! It's all thanks to Enzo’s tips and tricks that helped me build my confidence. I can't recommend him enough! If you're on the fence about skiing, give it a try, especially with someone like Enzo guiding you. You might just surprise yourself!
Simona L — Google review
Booked a 4hr off piste guided lesson, our instructor was Daniele, and I can't rate this experience highly enough, everything was covered from general improvement of our techniques, off piste runs and equipment, plus some freestyle tips and lessons. So much time was taken to explain everything, and how it all effects the way you move the board. A lot of emphasis was put on the fact that this is a bidirectional sport and the improvements that can be made by being bidirectional, which really opened the idea up for more us. 11/10 top class day!

Amazing experience. Super approachable, professional, flexible and professional instructor. Really accommodating office staff. Both myself and my 12 year old son took private lessons. He was encouraged and pushed to grow in confidence, being able to go up and down the nursery slops and use the ‘magic carpets’ fully independently by then of the second lesson. Thank you Luca. Can’t wait to keep on learning next year!

-Great experience for Ski bootfitting thanks to Cedric craftmanship and expertise. Got a pair of Fisher RC4 Pro MV130 which have been a pleasure to ski with the whole 2 weeks. THANK YOU. The same feedback from my sister-in-law with a pair fitted by Jeremy. -Great experience with the purchase (for our whole family) of several ski jackets, underlayers, gloves, helmets, goggles, ect. Thank you for Guillaume and Sandrine super sweet character and immense kindness. Top lads ! -Super poor experience with the purchase of 2 pairs of premium skis (Buttner Heida and Nordica Enforcer 96). When one buys 2 pairs for more than 3K Euros, he expects no drama. The Buttner were having faulty plates and the Enforcer were mounted with the bindings going sideways by more than 4mm. ProsNeige changed both after realizing these were having some obvious issues and I am very grateful for the same. Overall, I recommend PRONEIGE for anyone looking for a proper bootfitting and great ski apparel. Both teams are great professionals. For ski purchase, I was not convinced for obvious reasons unless I was very unlucky to have both pairs mounted by the same amateur (...)

Was disappointed with the ski club for my 3 y/o son. I can't complain for the quality of ski lessons. It was more or less ok. But we signed him in for the whole week - full 6 days. They skied 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. Rest of the time they mostly spent in this tiny room with one set of lego and couple of other toys. Toilet - adult size only. It's fine for couple of hours ski lesson, but not for the whole week. At the end of the ski course, everyone was suppose to get a medal. I was passing ESF at the time of the medal ceremony - the photographer, medals and ski book for each child. When I came to pick up my son, I expected the same. Most of the people were gone, we had to ask for the medal (which is a big deal for my LO) and the ski book. Disappointing experience. Will choose club Piou Piou next time again.

Restaurant le Signal is located at the second bubble lift up the mountain, making it a great meeting point with stunning views and access to various runs across the mountain. While it can get busy, once on the piste, it offers a fabulous experience for beginners with highlighted routes on green and blue pistes. The staff is polite and speaks English well, offering delicious food including a special cheeseburger that's highly recommended.
The cheese burger was really good and better tasting than in many other places i have been. The portion was big enough to satisfy the hungriest. The Mont-Blanc Tramway, also known as TMB, is a scenic railway journey that starts from Fayet at 580 meters and reaches Nid d'Aigle at 2372 meters after a 12.4 km ride with six stops along the way for hikers. It serves as the starting point for climbers heading to Mont-Blanc via the Royal Route and offers families and contemplative travelers a safe way to experience the majestic spectacle of the high mountains.
Pricey but well worth the money. We boarded from the first stop and got off at the last one (both ways). It wasn't too crowded going up (13:15 slot) but it got very crowded when coming down. The view was magnificent near end of july during a heatwave and clear sky. We had lunch from the cafe next to the glacier while watching the view and it was breathtaking. You will have to book your return slot when you arrive at the top so don't forget to do that right away and be ready to stand the whole ride. It takes longer than 1hr so board early and grab a window seat if you can.

One of the most beautiful botanic gardens I've seen. Laid out so naturally, including areas like an alpine meadow. A little bit wild but that's clearly intentional, as the gardener was editting the self-seeders when we were there. Plants are still labelled pretty well, which is great. It has an occasionally steep but smooth path to the top plus some brilliant off-the-beaten-track routes through some areas. I had a positive experience at Zigzag Ski School Samoëns. I paid for a 2.5-hour private ski lesson despite having no prior skiing experience, only snowboarding. I expected to learn just the basics and not be very mobile, but it was the opposite. The instructor, Adrien, was extremely knowledgeable and provided helpful tips throughout the lesson. By the end, I was moving quickly and executing nice turns.
Zigzag is an amazingly well run company. All the employees were pleasant and very approachable. But the biggest shout out and hugest thank you goes to ALAIN…he was so patient through out the 4 days of lessons(even though I know I gave him a few more grey hairs)! He explained things so well…and after these 4 lessons I have the confidence to take to the slopes! He was also amazing with my two boys who from the first lesson didn’t look back and were so happy on the slopes! I would highly recommend this ski school and instructor ALAIN. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Ps- Jack and zachie say thank you very much. And I will look at getting a surf skate!

Absolutely fantastic ski school with the most wonderful and patient instructors. My 6 year old loved Simona and was so happy learning how to ski with her . She boosted his confidence and he has come away having learnt so much . Regis was wonderful at teaching me, which was not an easy task! He was calm and made me feel relaxed. Regis always had a smile on his face . 10/10 and highly recommend to anyone needing ski lessons .

Thanks so much to Zig Zag Ski School last week and especially to the very patient and kind Marilisa. She was so helpful getting me back on skis after a 35 year absence from the piste! The confidence was slowly returning, and after 2 private morning sessions I was able to execute parallel turns again. Admittedly a bit ragged. Many thanks again.

Zigzag ski is fantastic. They are quick to respond to email questions and phone. I had a private Nordic ski lesson with Guy and he was great!!! I went to a trail in the middle of the woods. See pictures below. Not touristic at all!!! Great! My 7 year old daughter did the week long ski school and she loved it. Two of the days it was pouring rain and she was still excited to go. What a great company. And their recommendation for Xtreme Glisser for rentals was a great suggestion as well. Five stars!!
Alexis B — Google review
I had one to one lessons through Zig Zag and my instructor Marilisa was excellent, finally helping me move from snow plough to parallel ski! Great communication and organisation from the company - highly recommend.

What an amazing company. We booked to take my 78-year-old mother and her 82-year-old sister tandem skiing. From the moment I made the booking online, until the last minute on the slopes was amazing. What an amazing company and the 2 instructors were professional, fun, kind-hearted and brilliant skiers. Adrien and Greg, you are in our families hearts forever. My mother who has never skied, all the way from South Africa, said, “Wow I felt like I had been skiing for 20 years as the experience was so real.” She HAD, as ZigZag and their team brought this to experience life.
Jacqui B — Google review
We recently had two children (9 & 11) of different abilities get lessons from ZigZag and I have to say both the instructors were superb. The children's Ski-ing came on well and most of all they had a blast on the slopes. We met others with children in other ZigZag classes and their experiences were excellent just like ours. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend as their support office always got back to us promptly as well.

My son (3.5 years) had four 30-minutes sessions during our holiday in Samoens and we were so pleased with his progress and how much he enjoyed them. We only booked 2 sessions originally but were able to book 2 more for later in the week very easily. Thank you again to his instructors, Marie-Lisa, Camille and Didier!

On piste at Valloire, couldn't be better!

Rooms are small but cozy. The views are spectacular, however service is really poor. You have to bring, replace and return sheets yourself, there is no soap, dishwashing liquid, dishwasher tablets, toilet paper, shower gel, cotton swabs, shampoo, nothing at all, you have to buy everything. The knives and cups are old and very poor quality. The shower hose also was partly broken.
Matas G — Google review
Great chalet for wintersports, close to the piste and a short walk or bus ride to the centre of Valloire. The appartment was roomy and clean. Furniture was on the old side but still very usable.

Enjoyed our time in this apartment complex. The check in was somewhat organised in the French way. We had to wait far to long. After that everything was good. Nice warm swimming pool. Ski piste was on the backside of the appartment. From there a few minutes to the telecabin. Perfect spot.

Col du Galibier is a famous paved alpine road and a stage of the Tour de France, reaching an impressive 8,678 feet in elevation and featuring a tunnel. The area offers a serene green setting, making it an unforgettable destination for visitors.

If you've ridden from St Michel de Maurienne you know. What can I say about this iconic cycle climb it's rock hard but boy the views are well worth the pain.
Chris T — Google review
Breathtaking landscape and view! We drove up the Col du Galibier, which was kinda scary at some point bc the street is incredibly narrow. As we drove up the mountain you would see many bikers struggling to get up this mountain, they of course made it! We stopped the care midway and hiked the remainder of the mountain. As we got on top we probably took about 30 min to take in this view. It was an incredible journey and totally worth it!!
Dalem — Google review
Ride up here with your bicycle! Stunning views on the top as a reward. Additionally, a spectacular descent on mostly very good roads.
Michel S — Google review
As a cyclist this is one of the highlights of my trip to France. It's a bloody hard climb, but so rewarding at the top for the views. I rode it in October, at the top it said 1c of my Wahoo so it made the descent quite cold.
Jonny B — Google review
Top of a Tour De France climb. Well worth the effort to get there. Views are spectacular and the descent is awesome. Give it a go.
Mark H — Google review
Southern part of the French Alps (Graic Alps). Dream Pass for a biking challenge. 43 kilometers, over 2,000 meters of altitude difference and 2,642 at the highest point. Snow stays there all year round, the air is crisp that you want to climb up and you need only good weather to admire the three thousand meters around (Grand Galibier, Pic des Trois Eveches, Arves massif). The mountain pass is the highest point of the Tour de France .

Experience the thrill of speed and twists on the Mountain Twister at Les Saisies resort. This rail tobogganing attraction offers a rollercoaster-like ride down the mountain slopes, providing an exhilarating experience and a unique perspective of the surrounding scenery. Whether you're with family or friends, you can enjoy this activity together, as two people can ride on a luge at once. The affordable pricing makes it accessible for everyone, and visitors have praised its quick lines and enjoyable nature.
I refused to use the brakes and only thought I was going to get thrown out twice. 5 stars.

Absolutely great exciting fun, for children and adults too. All ages. You can choose your level of excitement and thrill, by increasing or decreasing the speed. No danger, you can never fall out the twister with the cart, so just go to the max!

Hold onto your mittens—this alpine adrenaline noodle will twist your soul into a pretzel and leave your cheeks wind-whipped from grinning. The Mountain Toboggan Twister is a gravity-defying, every bend feels like it was designed by a caffeinated mountain goat. Skiiers, especially PARENTS! Be careful ESF is making money, they don't care about the customers. PARENTS! Be careful. Esf doesn't care about the children. We booked a lesson and my child was ill after that. They didn't want to cancel the lesson and only said that we should buy additional insurance. Wonderful high ropes course, best we've ever been to. Courses for small people and those that are more adventurous - the teenagers loved it

Very unfriendly people. We came to practice on the baby "contraption" after hours, some guy came running demanding that we leave this private domain. Come on Grand Bornand, you throw parties at the main square at the cost, but the usage of ferrata playground from 3-5 years old is restricted to hours, 3eur fee and official equipment. This thing has a grade of a playground and we with own equipment. Kids were disappointed. Not like we're coming back during the day after that welcome.
Bronisław G — Google review
One of the best tree climbing experience i have had. The paths of various and original. The location is majestuous, surrounded by trees and a waterfall. I highly recommend this activity if you are around the Grand Bornand. Rose, the person in charge that day, was very helpful and patient with those having difficulties with the paths.
Divalen S — Google review
Great place and amazing location. All the courses are in the shaded forest so bring a jumper if you feel the cold. The green/vert course is great for smaller kids that are adventurous, not for timid souls. The blue course is much harder but shorter and the red and black are harder again. Black is definitely older kids and adults. The green course took about 50mins on a moderately busy day so you do get your monies worth. We went mid august on a beautiful day and it was chilly in the shade.
Aaron M — Google review
Fantastic place and great service. Also good value for money as you can do the course multiple times. We did the green course with a 6 and 4 year old, one round took a bit under an hour and then there are also harder and higher courses.
Josh B — Google review
Great tree top activity. Smashing way to spend 2 1/2hrs.
Teak B — Google review
Loved this place. We were staying close by in the village so decided to try this high ropes course, instead of the one at Thones which we have been to before. The course is clearly marked with green, blue, red and black sections - and each obstacle is individually marked too. The usual harness with carabiner and carabiner/pulley system for safety. We went through green, blue and red courses. Even at this level, you get quite high in the trees, especially noticeable as the trees are on a slope with ravines etc. The black section is even higher, with an interesting bike on a tightrope and a skateboard running across two wires, high up.in the trees. Quite a few Tyrolean style skies, culminating in a longer one at the finish - though watch as can be a fast, then abrupt landing. Was 23 euro per adult, which we felt was good value as no time limit we were aware of. Not too busy either, despite being in August.

Venus has 3 for the heritage days, what a nice surprise to discover a welcoming and very well done museum, an exciting blacksmith demonstration, a very well restored period school and great tours to discover mines... (Translated by Google) After a long and winding journey, we arrived at the site. If the presentation suggests good moments of discovery, the reality is very different. The exterior route reveals few curiosities (it is insufficiently maintained). The school of the last century calls for few comments. The Saint Louis gallery (formerly exploited for its ore) is only a narrow corridor which does not allow you to visualize what the hard work of the miners of past centuries may have been. In short, for 25 euros (3 adults 1 child), you will be left wanting more. There is also a lack of a map of all the galleries in the region, which would have given more ideas on the extent of this ancient ore production.

Nestled in the heart of the Alps, Lake Annecy is a stunning destination offering a variety of activities for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The crystal clear waters make it perfect for swimming and water sports, while the surrounding mountains provide breathtaking views. Visitors can explore picturesque villages along the lakeshore and enjoy leisurely bike rides through adjacent parks.
One of the best lake city I have ever been to! Beautiful lake with mountains on one side and city on the other side. Many places to relax, swim. The best part is lake is very flat so nothing to worry about. Great crowd and very happening place.

Fantastic, very touristy nowadays but there are still some hidden gems that are quiet but you’ll need a car to find them (one was through an industrial estate so very hidden). Restaurants are great and people very friendly

This would have been beautiful in the right weather. It was just our luck that we arrived in the height of Summer, at the end of a heatwave and were met with heavy rain and thunderstorms o the water didn't have its famous greenish-blue hue. It is a lovely natural beauty surrounded by mountains.
Sarah L — Google review
I was just remembering how much we loved it there last year. My son and I rented bikes and went all around the lake. We also got a pedal boat and took a swim. Saw some young people doing a rope swing jump and did that too. Fabulous.

I took a day trip from Lyon, a great place, I'm sorry I only stayed one day, it's definitely worth 2-3 days! A place not to be missed if you're in the area!

It is a MUST to go, partying, water scakating, swimming and lots of boat cruises around the great lake surrounded by magnificent mountains. 30 min away and your up amongst snowy mountains as early as September.

The Pont des Amours, also known as the Lover's Bridge, is a romantic footbridge in Annecy that has been crossed by countless lovers. It offers stunning views of the city, canal, and Lake Annecy. Whether you approach it from Paquier or Jardins de l'Europe, taking a walk along the water to reach this bridge is a delightful experience.
Such a beautiful and romantic spot to stop by when in Annecy!! A must!! The walk in the area is scenic, with towering mountains in the background and the beautiful lake Annecy creating a post card like view 😍 you definitely have to come and take in the beauty that Annecy has to offer!

A wonderful spot to admire the lake. The water is so clear and if you go early or is a very peaceful place. It is a very busy spot for locals exercising and tourists. It is very close to the old town so you should have no trouble walking there.
Craig C — Google review
Beautiful place with a panoramic view towards the lake. You can also see people doing paddle. Breathtaking. But nothing to do but to take the photos and relax a big

If you’re in Annecy, a stop at the Pont des Amours is a must. Nestled between the peaceful waters of Lake Annecy and the tree-lined canals of the Jardins de l’Europe, this charming iron footbridge isn’t just a picturesque viewpoint — it’s steeped in legend and local romance. The name Bridge of Love is no accident. According to local lore, if two lovers kiss on the bridge, they’ll stay together forever. Whether or not you believe in the magic, the setting is undeniably dreamy: swans glide beneath you, the Alps rise in the background, and the lake sparkles under the sun.
Wisanu T — Google review
Beautiful. Especially the wooden boat tide €17 per person for 30 minutes is awesome. Also the view from the bridge in itself is satisfying
Tathagata B — Google review
Incredibly beautiful bridge with stunning views. Perfect photo spot

Very crowded area filled with passive aggressive couples trying to snap fake kisses for their boring Insta pages. The surrounding area around is much better: parks, icecream vendors, boat rental

Tourist Office of Lake Annecy

The Tourist Office of Lake Annecy is a stunning building in the city, conveniently located near the lake. The office provides valuable assistance to tourists, offering maps and guidance for sightseeing and travel activities. Visitors can obtain pamphlets and brochures detailing various attractions and exciting adventures available in the area. The staff is known for being supportive and helpful, ensuring that travelers have all the information they need to make the most of their time in Annecy.
Lake Annecy and the town of Annecy is a hidden gem in the French Alps. A large beautiful lake, reputed as the cleanest in Europe is, connected with canals that criss-cross the town with the backdrop of snow peaked mountains and fringed with small habitats and beautiful buildings all round makes for a great outing. We had a one hour boat ride around the lake and were swept over with the sheer beauty of the emerald Lake and its surroundings as can be seen from the attached pictures and videos. Truly exhilarating! The cobbled mediaeval town has many places of interest including chateaus, cathedrals, prisons and the ubiquitous eateries and shops lining the canal, and in the town. The canals remind us of Venice and the best way to explore this place is by foot in addition to a boat ride on the lake. If you are in France for a few days, I would definitely recommend a visit to this beautiful town nestled in the Alps!

The office de tourisme is easy to access from the SNCF station and the staff was very kind, they could speak English, so our bad french wasnt a problem. I loved the recommended parcours, there were two to choose from and we ended up mixing the two. Annecy is not overrated at all, it's a beautiful town, with old buildings, castles, churches and the amazing, cristal clear lake, everywhere you look is a feast for the eyes. We went on a national holiday and on top of that, there was a volleyball championship and an animation event going on, so there were lots of people outside the normal tourists, I assume. Don't miss on the château de Menthon Saint Bernard! It's a bit far, but easy to access from the bus line. The only thing is that there were fewer buses circulating, since it was a holiday. We couldn't get in the castle due to the time, but even the entry for the gardens was worth it, the scenery is simply amazing. I'd recommend at least 2 days in Annecy if you want to see the museums and everything else. We went only on a day trip from Lyon and it was enough for the Tour around town, but we couldn't get into any museums due to the time, which was a shame.

Visually impressive town. Beautiful lakes, canals and waterways. Most shopkeepers act as tourist guides and I tell you that the fast moving waters of the canals are fed by glaciers. Massive array of restaurants to eat from... real provincial authentic french food. Not that expensive if you are using euros, any other currency, and it starts to get very pricey. You need at least 3 days here to look at Lakeside beaches, castles, canals. Mountains and it's all centered around Annecy Lake. We were lucky enough to go on the most auspicious day of the year. Much celebration and finished in the evening with an hour and a half fireworks display. A must go to secret.

Wrong people manning the post. I asked 2 questions to a young lady manning the counter 1. Where is the lift to carpark? 2. How can I get parking package? She directed me to the wrong direction for the lift and make me walked to another building to purchase the parking package. I was told to go back where I parked and package can be purchase at the ticket machine. Simple steps but she don't know any of it. Or she simply dislike tourists. Wasted time just because of her.
HS K — Google review
Large office space with at least 4 employees taking care of tourists. I guess it depends on the member pf the staff you get, the service you get. First lady was in a rush, provided some incomplete information regarding walking trails and how to get there. Had to go back and second person was a little more thorough. Ended up walking a short trail far from the city, would have been better to walk along the lake closer to the city center.

A really great place to find out everything about Annecy! The staff gave us fantastic advice on what to visit and what to see around the area. We were looking for recommendations for a nice spa with an outdoor pool, and they suggested an amazing place we couldn’t even find online! If you’re wondering what to do next or looking for hidden gems, definitely stop by and ask for their recommendations. The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming, and super knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Annecy Tourism Office for their outstanding support during my visit. Unfortunately, I discovered upon arrival that the hotel reservation I had made was a scam. It was a very stressful moment, but the team at the tourism office stepped in with such kindness, professionalism, and genuine care. They not only reassured me but also quickly helped me find safe and comfortable new accommodations. Their knowledge, efficiency, and compassion turned what could have been a disastrous experience into one where I felt truly supported and looked after. Thank you to the entire team - especially the young woman who directly helped- for embodying excellence in customer service and for showing such warmth to a traveler in need. Your assistance made all the difference and left me with the best impression of Annecy and its wonderful people.

Musée-Château d'Annecy

Art museum
Perched on a hill overlooking the old town, Musée-Château d'Annecy is a restored medieval castle that has been transformed into a museum. Constructed over four centuries from the 12th to 16th centuries, it was once the residence of the Counts of Geneva and Dukes of Genevois-Nemours. The castle now houses regional sculptures, paintings, and contemporary art, offering visitors a captivating journey through time.
Especially the museum is worth to visit this castle. You get a huge variety of exciting views into modern arts, history and also geographical and natural development of the whole region. You should not miss this. The entrance fee is very fair for what they offer!

It is a very impressive building, and the refurbishment of it is very impressive. Lots of history and at the moment has an art exhibition, which will please a lot of people, but I am afraid I am still old school. At 6.50 euros, it is great value. WC's are available in a couple of places, so no need to cross your legs. It's a shame they don't have rides to the top, from the market, but it was very hot, 31 degrees today. 20.06.25. A great visit, thank you 😊
DJGintheforest — Google review
There’s a fair few pieces of nice work in many mediums. I’m not so much of a fan of the modern artwork, but I loved a lot of the sculptures and landscape paintings. Much prefer the museum opposite.
Angela L — Google review
It is worth the effort to walk up the short but steep hill to the chateau for the views alone but it was also worthwhile going inside. Lots of interesting art, both old and new (ish). It's a pretty cheap place to visit and you can go when it suits, no need to book ahead of time. We spent about an hour there which was more than enough. Takes about 10mins to walk there from the base of the hill on old town.

A must-visit in Annecy! ⭐️ Beautiful, historic, and very memorable! The castle offers stunning views of the lake and mountains, and the museum inside has a fascinating collection of regional art and history.

Great expectations… and disappointments to match As impressive as the castle looks from the outside, the visit itself was just as disappointing. I'll start with what I liked (because this list is way shorter than the one with the negative points): 1. The painting gallery, where you can admire several works (originals, according to the supervisors) by great painters, including a small painting by Fragonard and, most notably, "The Massacre of the Innocents" by Pieter Brueghel the Younger 2. The (temporary) exhibition "L’épopée burgonde" - the arrival and installation of the Burgundians in Haute-Savoie region 3. Behind the castle, there is a spot from which you can admire Lake Annecy surrounded by mountains What I didn’t like: 1. Most of the rooms in the main castle building are completely empty: no furniture, drawings, paintings, period clothing, weapons, courtly objects… nothing but cement and wood 2. An almost total lack of information — the organizers didn’t bother to put up even basic informative panels, so many tourists wandered around speculating: “this was probably where…” 3. Many areas inside the castle are not accessible to the public 4. The old shooting holes have been “completed” with modern windows, which not only spoil the charm of the building, but also prevent visitors from taking photos, as the glass is far from transparent 5. The modern art exhibition is absolutely ridiculous — in fact, it’s not art at all (I’ll upload a picture so you can judge the quality of these so-called “works”). On top of that, the exhibition takes up many rooms on the upper floor — so many that it felt like it would never end 6. The other two buildings of the complex host exhibitions that have nothing to do with a medieval castle; for example, one of them focuses on the fauna of the nearby lake and on fishing vessels… well, if I want to know more about the fish in the lake, I’ll go to a fish-farming museum or a natural science museum, right? 7. In the basement of one of the towers there are several tiny aquariums, poorly maintained and without plants for the animals to hide in; each contains a few unhappy fish swimming in endless circles 8. The crenels of the towers have also been covered with windows through which you can’t take pictures (in fact, you can’t even see properly). This is even more frustrating because some of these windows overlook the beautiful Lake Annecy 9. If you’re thinking of climbing the walls or the fortified gate, think again — access is prohibited 10. On top of everything, I stood in line for tickets for a very long time… and I really regret doing so. Final score: 2 stars, and those only for the art gallery (which could just as well have been housed elsewhere, not in a restored medieval castle) and for the exhibition dedicated to the Duchy of Burgundy. Without them, even one star would have been too generous.

A wonderful castle standing on a slightly higher point in Annecy. One of the steep hills brings you there (not too steep for a wheelchair apparently as Ive seen people go up with some help) Be sure to check it out, sometimes it even has expositions inside, also the view from the castle is excellent

Nice place to visit you can buy a multi ticket to also visit the old prison in town which takes about an hour then time for a coffee and then up the steep hill to the beautiful château. Lots to see very interesting.
