Imposing castle with over 300 rooms & a frescoed ballroom, plus parkland, fountains & gardens.
Amazing, amazing, and amazing! It's a beautiful castle, and the gardens are incredible. I would highly recommend you give yourself plenty of time to enjoy this place - one hour is not enough. The castle is incredible, and when you get to the gardens, you will simply want to take your time to stroll around and enjoy everything. We went in November in the middle of the week, and our group was huge, which made it more enjoyable.
Israel M — Google review
Very interesting guided visit. We just showed up 9:30 am on Sunday and luckily the tour started at 10 am so we were able to visit the castle. Like almost all the places in Italy there are no instructions at the entrance, so when you get at the counter and seem a little lost and have inquiries, they immediately asked us to move aside to pass people that had reserved online!! I was fuming and wanted to leave. I believe that the lady behind the counter realized what she had done and came to get us and passed us in front of the line. It’s probably annoying having tourists that show without knowing ahead of time what to expect all the time, but when traveling from far to see something it is also annoying to be rushed and quickly dismissed because. Please put instructions on the outside so we can look at your packages before we get at the counter. ( would of gave a 5 star if it wasn’t for that) The tour guide was really nice, and explained, was interesting to listen to!
John P — Google review
The tour to this place is extremely interesting. Our guide was very knowledgeable and fun to interact with, and it is definitely a good stop to fill your time. The castle is not in the best state of preservation (hence the 4 stars), but the enthusiastic guides make up for this.
Matthew V — Google review
Big castle with a wide park. Very nice to visit. Kind guide that leads you inside the buiding with storytelling.
Valerio M — Google review
Thoroughly enjoyed it, maybe as much as the Royal palace in Turin, beautiful, furniture, chandeliers, statues, curtains. We'll have to return to see the gardens which were closed for renovation.
Monica W — Google review
Amazing Castle to visit, our guide Rosanna was amazing, she explained really well every room in the Castle. Gardens are beautiful and magical. it’s better to call and book the time for the visit. loved it!
Monica G — Google review
The castle is very beautiful and impressive. During our visit it was closed to visitors and only the small garden next to it was open. We Received a disgusting and condescending attitude from the salesman who refused to understand that we are tourists who do not speak Italian. He didn't agree to explain anything and barely agreed to sell tickets that were expensive for just a tour of the garden. If the castle is not open, you can content yourself with looking from the outside.
Sharon Z — Google review
Just passing here for awhile coz the castle is busy for other event but outside this area is quite good and nice 👌 I hope I could see inside the castle but looks good 👍

Forte di Bard

Mentioned on

Fortress
Museums
Located in the Aosta Valley of northern Italy, Fort of Bard is a historic fortress dating back to the 1830s. It played a significant role in defending the territory and withstood Napoleon's advance for two weeks in 1800. The fortress now features museum exhibits, interactive areas for children, and offers panoramic routes for visitors to explore its imposing stone buildings. Renovated in 2006, it also houses the Museum of the Alps and hosts exhibitions by renowned international artists.
Large fortress that underwent some restorations after the Napoleonic era. Today it hosts museums, exhibitions and events that combine ancient history and modern art; slow-paced walks, also enjoying the surrounding nature, in contrast with the highway and the nearby town. The Ferdinando museum houses numerous cannons and weapons that tell the story of the many conflicts that have characterized this place. It is recommended to purchase the ticket on abbonamentomusei.it to visit all the castles and sites of the Aosta Valley. Dogs allowed inside it carrier. Paid parking.
Jefferson A — Google review
I must have travelled the freeway below this massive fort controlling the narrow passage between the steep and dangerous mountain sides more than a hundred times over the past 30 years without reflecting on what you might find inside. This time I took a day trip from home in Switzerland with the aim to discover this surprisingly interesting place steeped in history lasting over 800 years. It's now owned and administered by the region of Aosta and houses 6 museums, a large museum shop, a cozy 11 room hotel and restaurant as well as a café. If you buy a simple entrance ticket you will access two exhibitions of your choice, if you want to see all six museums, the price is about double the ordinary entrance fee. There is ample parking around the castle, the near-most being paying. Access is either via an ingenious series of funiculars or by foot on a winding road. Avoid visiting on a busy day not to spend your time waiting to access the funicular system. I came on a Friday afternoon mid May 2025 and was surrounded by 15 year olds trying to learn Italian history, not the most serene situation. You do need a full day to fully appreciate the place so I will come back to spend a night here before touring the premises.
Sebastian R — Google review
So much to see here! There are 5? main buildings, each housing different museums and (temporary, rotating) art exhibits. Costs €12 to visit 2 of any things of your choice or €24 to visit everything. But you can visit all the exterior fort for free! This is definitely worth it if you want a quick look and get a good view from the top of the Fort. If you want to visit the museums, you'll need a few hours to spare! Our 2 choices were both in the Carlo Alberto building (at the top). We did the Museum of the Alps which has SO MUCH to see, and quite the diversity of history and information. This took us 2 hours and we didnt look too closely at half of it. Could definitely take 2-4 hours depending on your interests. Absolutely 1 of the best ways to spend a solid chunk of your day here. 2nd, we did the prisons downstairs in the same building. This was cool but much quicker (like 30 mins). It was a toss up between the prison and the Ferdinando building at the bottom.. unsure what all that offers or the time it takes to visit. In total we spent about 3 hours here, and could have spent much longer if we got the full package. Lots of history here and offers a neat view of the valley. I would recommend it, but again, you'll need time if you want to visit any museums. I personally didnt care to visit any of the art exhibitions. From what I've gathered, they kind of have nothing to do with the Fort itself, so didnt seem worth any of my 2 choices.
Jake M — Google review
Have you even been to Valle d’Aosta if you haven’t visited Forte di Bard? The structure is just impressive in its size and location! Inside is pretty bare, but the museums and exhibits are super interesting.
Liza B — Google review
The castle is beautiful, no doubt there. However, we wanted to take a quick walk within the walls, and there is unfortunately no ticket allowing you to just stroll around. You have to purchase a ticket for 12e which allows you to enter 2 out of 6 available exhibitions/ “museums”. Maybe it would not be that frustrating if a couple in front of us wasnt allowed to enter for free by stating “we only came for a walk” in italian. We checked the japanese exhibition which was rather mediocre, not much to learn from it. We would appreciate some story behind and more descriptions behind the pictures. The other exhibitions was the prisons which was more interesting - you can see the real prison rooms and how the castle was evolving over time.

Wonderful place . Breathtaking and perfect for a day with children . Nice museums, nice view and the staff was really nice .

19th-century fortress, part of the fortifications of the Aosta Valley. The fortress is well maintained and houses a rich permanent exhibition (about forts and fortresses throughout history), as well as interesting temporary exhibitions. Entrance tickets: - €12 for visiting the fortress itself and two exhibitions - €24 for visiting five exhibitions Both tickets include access to the lifts. The ticket price is absolutely worth it.

Cervino Ski Paradise

Ski & Snowboard Areas
Cervino Ski Paradise, also known as Breuil-Cervinia, is a popular tourist resort in the Aosta Valley of Italy. Nestled at the base of Mount Cervino, it offers a wide range of activities for visitors throughout the year. The ski season from January to March boasts excellent snow conditions and dramatic alpine skiing experiences. Access to Zermatt adds to its appeal, although Cervinia is noted for its sunnier weather and more affordable options.
Cervino Ski Paradise is an exceptional ski resort offering one of the best skiing experiences in the Alps. With its extensive range of slopes, stunning views of the Matterhorn, and top-notch facilities, it is a paradise for ski enthusiasts of all levels. The resort is equipped with modern lifts, well-maintained slopes, and a wide range of amenities, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
RIDHWAN S — Google review
This is my 3rd trip to ski Cervinia. First time I actually stayed 7 days in town. I had a group of 8 people and we all agreed we would definitely go back. The town was easy to get around. Had plenty to do before and after skiing. The people were very friendly. The food was fantastic. The hotel was fantastic! The skiing and weather was second to none. Definitely plan on returning. A+ all the way around...
Jon G — Google review
one of the best ski resorts in Europe. Thanks to the glacier and the high altitude - above 3500m - there will always be snow and skiing conditions. And the incredible beauty of the landscapes.
Equip G — Google review
Perfect ski resort. Very recomemded especialy for beginners. The town itself is small and very nice, but not a real apre ski atmosphere. I advise to find a place to stay close to the Cretaz lift.
אריה ש — Google review
The best landscape ever: the Matterhorn is superbe, Les Grand Murailles are impressive, on the Plateau Rosa glacier you feel like touching the sky.
Marcello R — Google review
Cervino Ski Paradise is truly one of my favorite ski resorts in the world. The slopes are incredibly well-maintained, the views of the mountains are breathtaking, and there’s a perfect mix of runs for all levels. The lifts are fast and efficient, and the whole area has a wonderful alpine charm that makes every day on the snow a joy. The only thing I wish could be improved is accessibility for younger skiers and snowboarders: it would be amazing if prices were a bit more affordable for those under 30, making it easier for more people to experience this incredible place. Still, despite that, Cervino remains an unforgettable destination for any snow season lover.
Enzo G — Google review
Nice ski resort with great views especially the Matterhorn. Was very warm beginning of April so the snow became very wet and heavy early afternoon but this was to be expected for the time of year. Great skiing for beginners and intermediates. Some flat and uphill sections would benefit from a magic carpet or rope pull
Scott B — Google review
Good number of runs across all levels and the ability to ski over at Zermatt as well is definitely a plus. Just be mindful of the time and not miss the last lift up to be back over at the Italian side as it can be a costly affair to miss the last lift back! View at the top is amazing!

Castello di Fénis

Mentioned on

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Located in the Aosta Valley of northern Italy, Castello di Fénis is a well-preserved medieval castle that was built for the Challant family. The castle boasts impressive watchtowers, battlemented walls, and an internal courtyard, making it a picturesque and popular tourist destination. Visitors can explore various areas within the castle, including the armory, soldiers' refectory, kitchens, as well as noble and ceremonial rooms.
Fantastic castle. Super well preserved and displayed, even without an English option on the tour, there are signs covering a lot of the content and even then, the castle speaks for itself for a majority of it. This is a must stop if you are in the Aosta Valley! Very details, appealing and sets itself of from its backdrop. Gotta go up the path past it for a little bit so you can get the castle with the valley and then the mountains on the other side behind that. Spectacular contrast to.make the castle stand out and accentuate the valley it resides in. Lots of detail inside and out. Well worth the tour, although the exterior is certainly admirable on its own. This seems to be one of the most picturesque castles in the valley ( at least from the exterior)! Don't miss it.
Richard — Google review
Very well restored castle in western Italy. Visit is by your only which seems to leave every half hour. Out guide did not speak English but tried nevertheless very hard to accommodate us, which was not an issue because there are good explanation signs at each stop. A very interesting historical site dating back to the 1200's.
Simcha S — Google review
Well preserved castle in a beautiful area in north italy (Aosta). Visiting is by guided tour only. The tour is in Italian, and you can rent audio translation aids. The tour takes about 40-45 minutes and walks through most main chambers of the castle. The art is well preserved. Recommended stop on your way to the Italian Alps.
Adrian G — Google review
A classic pentagonal fortress, with towers and walls, long abandoned and used by the locals as a warehouse until its restoration, commissioned by an architect on behalf of the State. The large fireplace in the center of the castle is beautifully designed taking into account the cold and the need to keep the interior warm. The visit lasts about an hour, guided only, with numerous insights into the history of the castle and small peculiarities of the past, such as the almost sitting position during the night's rest so as not to be mistaken for a deceased person or the small faces engraved on the towers to keep evil spirits away. Dogs allowed in a carrier. It is recommended to purchase one of the many tourist cards of the Aosta Valley to be able to visit all the sites and castles of the region.
Jefferson A — Google review
Stunning from the outside. Pretty basic and repetitive on the inside. Rooms are not decorated, but display a loooot of wooden chests. Only visitable with Italian guide, every half hour. English audiotour available, which provides similar info as the panels in the rooms. You need to give them your id to get a audiotour.
Annemarie D — Google review
Elegant castle from the 12th century and now owned and administered by the province of Aosta. It has been completely restored from being close to a ruin, including the many indoor and outside paintings depicting religious and noble figures. You cannot visit the castle on your own and have to wait till a guide becomes available which precludes too many people inside the premises at one time. There is a lot to be learnt about how nobles lived and traveled during past centuries including why three legged chairs were used to avoid tipping over on the uneven floor surfaces. It made me remember growing up on the tree legged chair "the ant" designed by the famous Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in the 1950-s. So nothing is really new under the sun...
Sebastian R — Google review
Interesting history. You must go inside only with a tour, no self guided tours. Amazing artwork frescoes.

Cascate di Lillaz

Waterfalls
Cascate di Lillaz is an alpine waterfall consisting of three levels, and it's a popular spot for winter ice climbing. The area offers gentle trails suitable for a leisurely stroll, with various paths leading to the waterfall. While the hike provides stunning views, it can be challenging, especially in winter conditions where proper hiking gear is necessary. During dry seasons, the water levels may be affected. However, on hot summer days, visitors can enjoy the refreshing water streams along the way.
I could spend hours watching these beautiful waterfalls. Parking outside in a paid, inexpensive parking lot, a short enjoyable walk through the village to the waterfalls on to the outskirts. A magnificent location well worth a visit. Various refreshment cafes on the way selling delicious ice creams. Recommended.
Gerald L — Google review
Very beautiful waterfall in a magical Alpine scenery. The entire Gran Paradiso National Park is amazing, and so is this piece. Even in September the waterfall was incredible, with a huge flow of water. We hiked for an hour to the Biolet Waterfall, not an easy route because of a steep climb but we managed. Plenty of parking at the beginning. Overall, very recommended.
Amit O — Google review
Nice short hike. From the parking lot, take the left side trail that climbe up the hill to the last waterfall. From there, cross the bridge and go down to see the other waterfalls 9n your way back to the car.
Nir S — Google review
Great and accessible waterfall in an amazing setting! The bar on top is outstanding
Pierre-Jean T — Google review
Great hike. Did the large loop to lake Loie, difficult climb so make sure you are fit enough to do this. The lake itself was cute, but the real deal is the views. Saw a marmot on some rocks on the side of the trail. Near the end of the hike appears a huge field with plenty of flowers (even in September!)
Amir L — Google review
✨ The Lillaz Waterfalls are absolutely stunning and worth the visit if you are in the Cogne Valley. The walk to the falls is short, easy, and accessible, making it perfect for families, but you can also continue on longer trails if you enjoy hiking. The sound of the rushing water combined with the fresh mountain air creates a truly relaxing atmosphere. The waterfalls are divided into several tiers, so you can admire them from different viewpoints. In summer, the water sparkles beautifully under the sun, while in winter the frozen cascades are breathtaking. There are picnic areas nearby and the small village of Lillaz offers a few restaurants and cafés where you can stop after your walk. Parking is usually easy, though it can get crowded in high season. Overall, a peaceful and refreshing experience in nature—ideal for anyone looking to enjoy the beauty of the Aosta Valley. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Grocery store
La Bottega Degli Antichi Sapori is a great Italian restaurant with homestyle Valdostan dishes, charcuterie and wine. The food is very well cooked and the staff are friendly and welcoming. La Bottega Degli Antichi Sapori offers a nice selection of starters (cold cuts and cheeses) as well as pasta dishes that are wonderfully cooked. The dessert menu is also quite good with some interesting choices, making it a great option for a late night meal.
Came back for the second time. We love the cheese, risotto and salami so many choices and most of them are from a few meters away. Truly local made high quality products. We will be back again!
Mami T — Google review
Very good quality starters (cold cuts and cheeses) typical from Italy and Spain. We chose Pasta (very Well cooked) accompanied with an artisanal beer. Nice desserts and friendly staff. We loved it. Didn’t give 5 starts because the restaurant itself is not “wow”, just a simple cozy bottega. But food-wise definitely worth it!!
Guillermo A — Google review
Had a wonderful lunch with the family today. I definitely recommend the cured meats and cheeses platters, as well as the tagliatelle with culatello and parmesan! But generally speaking we were satisfied with the food and wine. The location is cosy, especially the 'underground' area. Service is nice, and you can purchase most of the products you have enjoyed after eating (which we definitely have done!) - we will come back!
Roberta M — Google review
The food was amazing, we tried the cheese and ham plate, that was really good. Beyond that, we tasted the tagliatelle and the polenta that were excellent. But, unfortunately, our experienced was affected by one staff that didn’t treat us very welcoming when we tried to get a table in the restaurant.
Karen K — Google review
Cosy undergroud seating area with big selection of wines. Great for apperrativo, amazing Prosecco
Joanita S — Google review
Delicious lunch here, a cute little 7 seat restaurant with wonderful local dishes and an amazingly inexpensive wines by the glass list. I only wish we had more of an appetite so we could have tried some of the meats and cheeses they had in their shop, but the tagliolini with butter, parm and white truffles was perfect, and the polenta in the La Carbonade was one of the best I’ve had!
Christopher Z — Google review
A little pricey and they won't serve you tap water : you have to buy an expensive bottle. Other than that, great food and nice staff!

Amazing food and wine plus 10/10 service - our favourite meal of the week hands down. If you are in Aosta this is a must!

Fondation Pierre Gianadda is a cultural venue in Martigny, Switzerland, established in 1978 by philanthropist Lonard Gianadda. The complex includes several areas within a single museum and offers various special deals. It houses a stunning art collection with works by renowned artists like Picasso, Cezanne, and Van Gogh. The sculpture garden features impressive sculptures by artists such as Henry Moore and Niki de Saint Phalle.
Went to their recent Francis Bacon Exhibit, and it was my first time at the foundation- incredible location, the curation was fabulous and museum staff are super friendly. Also, LOVED the outdoors sculpture park! Definitely coming back here for future exhibits

Great museum with beautiful grounds and park. We visited the museum for the special exhibit, from Renoir to Van Gogh. The exhibit was very interesting with many unique paintings. The regular exhibits of antique cars was very educational. The collection of photos of Giannadda definitely worth visiting.

The Tintin exhibition was incredible! The cars were a welcome surprise The employees are very friendly and a student ticket only costs 12 chf. Lovely museum shop. The coffee shop was gorgeoooouuus though I didnt have time for it

Unique venue, worth a visit. The TinTin collection was interesting. The vintage car collection was ok. Temporary exhibit of Armand Hammer collection probably presented not the best works of Vincent Van Gogh.
Evelyn C — Google review
It is a luxurious collection of old cars and paintings. Unfortunately, all of the exhibitions and annotations are only in French.

Very nice museum, small but cute. There is an exhibition that changes time to time, and two areas dedicated to the main characters of the museum. There is also one area with the cars of the beginning of 20th century. There are 2 cafeterias, one indoor, very cute (like a step back in time), and one outside in the garden, where it is really pleasant to sit and enjoy the park and the weather. The park is also interesting, with pieces of art of various artists placed here and there. Suggested.

The museum is not big, but has such an eclectic variety of collections that's its a very entertaining way to pass an hour - no matter what you're interested in. There's a potted collection of roman artifacts, early cars, contemporary sculpture and decorative arts. The Cafe in the sculpture garden is a great place for a leisurely aperitif or on a sunny day. The history of Roman Martigny is well explained in French and German, but most other signage is in French only.

I took a friend there to see the vintage car collection and we were happy with the visit except for the very rude staff member called Martine. I was telling my friend about how Anker used red in most of his paintings as told during my previous guided tour. Martine then said very loudly about me being too close to the painting which is impossible because of the barrier. They can easily get their surveillance cameras to see that I was no where near paintings. She then said very loudly in French to another customer that 'some people don't understand anything ' in French, referring to me. Now that I can no longer find my previous review also about her rudeness, I guess she remembers me. My friend's first thought was her being racist, but I sincerely hope not. It was such a shame that how a rude staff member can totally spoil an almost perfect experience. Honestly, she should not be working there.

(Translated by Google) I tried it for the first time today and it was a great experience. The staff is very professional, our guide was Franco, a truly fantastic instructor. He made everything simple, safe and fun even though my son who is only 5 years old was also on the dinghy. (Original) Oggi ho provato per la prima volta ed è stata una bellissima esperienza. Lo staff è molto professionale , la nostra guida era Franco davvero un'istruttore fantastico . Chillon Castle

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Chillon Castle, located near Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva, is a renowned medieval fortress with underground vaults and four grand halls. It has remained virtually unchanged since the 13th century and was once the domain of the powerful Counts of Savoy. The castle's dungeons, knight's hall, duke's bedroom, and wooden chapel offer a glimpse into its historical significance. Seized by Swiss forces in 1536, Chillon Castle has inspired writers and poets for centuries.
Visited Chillon Castle in the winter and it became one of my most memorable stops in Switzerland. The castle sits right on Lake Geneva, and in winter, the scenery is extra magical—beautiful mountains, calm blue water, and a peaceful atmosphere. Inside, the castle is impressively well preserved. From the atmospheric dungeons to the chapel and grand halls, every corner tells a story and transports you back in time. It’s a very historical place, beautifully maintained, and truly worth a visit. Tip: a winter afternoon here is perfect—fewer crowds, softer light, and the lake reflecting the snowy peaks.
Jc_Jenn — Google review
Well maintained castle, modestly furnished, with a collection of interesting frescoes and murals. Strategically built on a small island, it used both the Lake Geneva and a moat created between the island and the mainland for defense. Our group had arrived in the late afternoon just in time to enjoy free wine tasting of some local wines, then proceeded to explore the medieval halls and underground chambers. The view from some rooms onto the lake and the Alps is stunning. It is the most visited monument in Switzerland.

This lakeside Castle with breathtaking view was stunning, pictures didn't do it justice. Its magical setting made it one of Switzerland’s most enchanting landmarks. I fully enjoyed my visit, highly recommend.

Château de Chillon is actually really big to explore, especially with the guided map they provide you. I was so tired, a lot of exploring new rooms that never seem like it would end. If you didn’t know, this castle inspired Prince Eric’s in The Little Mermaid. You can hear tons of water sounds by the prison area. It was relative peaceful for me as there weren’t much crowds and kids, so sometimes I got to explore rooms alone.
Heidi F — Google review
Beautiful castle (Little Mermaid was inspired on it) with lots of history. I really recommend taking the audio guide which is super complete. It lets you wonder alone around the castle which is a magical experience. The castle is in great conservation, and the dungeons are particularly beautiful. Would recommend this visit if you’re around. You can buy tickets directly upon arrival, and the audio guide takes like 2h to complete

The best view I’ve had from any castle I’ve visited so far. The castle is beautifully preserved, with authentic medieval furnishings that clearly took great effort to maintain. It’s generously open to the public, with access to nearly every corner—even up the creaky wooden staircases, which add to the sense of stepping back in time. Free entry for Swiss pass holders. Two hours or longer is needed.
Yulan Z — Google review
Fascinating experience. We spent several hours wandering through the castle. The careful preservation of this site allows an understanding of history, with excellent access to all areas both indoors and outdoors and detailed information boards throughout. It is also a lovely lakeside walk from Montreux (after ferry from Lausanne) and a cafe with indoor and outdoor seating is opposite. A truly wonderful morning.

The Freddie Mercury statue is a bronze monument located on Marche Square in Montreux, facing the lake where he lived and recorded his last Queen album. It's a popular landmark eagerly anticipated by visitors as they stroll along the winding promenade. The area also features the city market and Migros supermarket, offering a picturesque spot to enjoy sandwiches and salads while admiring the lake.
Magnificent! This waterfront is absolutely gorgeous! On a sunny day or a wet overcast day it's all the same! Simply beautiful! He's a legend and so many people leave notes and flowers at his feet! Montreux is a beautiful, quiet city. Not a whole lot to do but it makes for a cute pass through town!

🌟 A Must-Visit Tribute to a Legend 🌟 The Freddie Mercury Statue in Montreux is an iconic landmark that beautifully captures the spirit of the legendary Queen frontman. Set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Geneva and the snow-capped Alps, the location is both peaceful and inspiring—exactly the kind of place you’d imagine Freddie loving. 📍 Location & Reachability The statue is located right on the lake promenade, in front of the Montreux Market Square, making it incredibly easy to find. It’s just a short walk from the Montreux train station (less than 10 minutes), and the promenade itself is a lovely walk filled with flowers, public art, and lake views. 🎶 Experience As a fan, it’s a surreal and emotional experience to stand in front of the statue with Freddie's music often playing nearby. The area is well-maintained and open to the public all day, making it a great stop whether you’re exploring Montreux or just passing through. 📸 Photo Tip Sunset is the best time to visit for photos—the golden light on the lake with Freddie’s silhouette makes for a perfect shot! Overall, this is a beautiful, easy-to-reach place that honors a musical legend in the most serene and scenic way possible. Whether you're a die-hard Queen fan or just appreciate good music and views, it’s absolutely worth a visit!
Subrata P — Google review
We arrived from Milan Sept 6, 2025 just in time for the 3 days Freddie Mercury birthday celebration. I enjoyed the celebration right there in Lake Leman so happy to celebrate 🥳 his birthday and experience where he once stood. The museum dedicated to Queen is just 200 meters from his statue.
Maria G — Google review
Enjoyed the walk around Lake Geneva, admiring the many statues, small or lifesize. The iconic one of Freddie Mercury was like icing on a cake. However I do wish someone would clean up the statue once in a while, there is just too much junk hanging on him and around him as gifts from well meaning fans.
FLnurseER1 — Google review
When in Rome...er, Montreux. Worth a visit for a photo or two if you've got the time. And there's a gelateria just a block away! Hang out on/near the lake right there at the coolest public bench circle ever made, then take a stroll along the lake - preferably near sunset.
Michael P — Google review
As a lifetime fan of Freddie, I took a 4 hour detour, just to go and pay respect to the greatest singer and entertainer if all time. He has a beautiful spot with a great view of the lake. I'm sure he would have loved it.
Kris O — Google review
The great representation of a Titan of music. A little hard to get a great photo as they were doing some construction around the area. At one point, he even had a do not cross tape wrapped around 1 foot as they made a fence to do some work on the viewing platform for the lake. I did manage to get one or two good shots. If you can get a picture of him from the side with the mountains and the lake on a nice day it is very breathtaking in a view. I’m sure he appreciated when he was in town to record music.

Statue of Freddie Mercury (Real name: Farrukh Bulsara) was a British singer and songwriter who achieved global fame as the lead vocalist and pianist of the rock band Queen. This statue is a tribute to him and serves as a memory of the days of his life he spent in Montreaux, Switzerland. The location is also stunning alongside Montreaux promenade. Tip: Don't forget to visit his recording studio in Montreaux. Search on google maps: Queen Studio Experience. Entry is free.

Pointe Helbronner is a must-visit alpine summit, standing at 11,358 feet and offering breathtaking valley views. Accessible by cable car in a popular ski area, it provides stunning vistas of mountain peaks and features a glass wall showcasing local gemstones. Visitors can enjoy quality coffee at a charming cafe while admiring the peaks. Despite potential cold temperatures at the observation deck, the various platforms offer spectacular views even on cloudy days.
MUST VISIT ONCE IN A LIFETIME!!! Beautiful view one of the highest peak of Europe, and the highest of Italy and France!!! 11th Peak in the World!!! Beautiful Panorama and astounding atmosphere... For those who are scared, it's not a big deal... The only thing we felt as a group is lower oxygen intake but not much more... The shelters are so good organized you don't feel like you are outside on one of the 11th peak... We wen to the restaurant downstairs and it isn't so overpriced Like you can take a Brioches with Cappuccino at 4 Euros!!! Even in Milan You can't get an offer like that... We ate typical Salumi and cheese with hot chocolate... Great Great Experience!!! So yeah you can also visit it in every season and in March they also open the way to the France, You can come with your ski and do ski alpinism or throw yourself with the Paragliding with any problem. The price to reach the peak is only 45 euros per person...

A breathtaking journey to the highest peak in the Alps on the Italian-French border Starting from the Italian city Courmayeur, a charming town 1,300 meters above sea level, I began my ascent via the Skyway Monte Bianco. I purchased a round-trip ticket for €63.5 at the main station. Punta Helbronner (3,467 m): The final destination was magical. The temperature dropped to around 1.8°C with a light wind, making it refreshingly crisp. From here, a 92-meter below a tunnel leads to a ski station and an open-air restaurant. I made my way to the top terrace—what a view! Standing above the clouds with 360° views of the Alps was an indescribably beautiful and humbling experience. Highly recommended for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and anyone craving awe-inspiring scenery #SkywayMonteBianco #PuntaHelbronner #MontBlanc #AlpineAdventure #Courmayeur #ItalyTravel #MountainViews #ExploreItaly #AlpsExperience

Breathtaking panoramic views of the highest mountain in Europe. Even though I was there at a pretty cloudy day, view was just one of its kind. I was disappointed that the triple cable car was open only one way to France, and nobody could return (because of different regulations).

Wonderful day trip in summer up this mountain via cable car. Don't miss the Refugio and the area covered in snow beside the Refugio.
Alan G — Google review
Stunning views of mountain peaks, an entire glass wall dedicated to local gemstones alongside a view of Mont Blanc and a lovely little cafe where you can sip quality coffee while you admire the peaks! Even though during my visit there were quite a few clouds, the various platforms and views from this height were spectacular. It does get cold at the top observation deck (since you are standing around) so I would recommend an ultralight down! To get around the observation decks (external) you do need to do some stairs, but the building (internal) itself with the cafe and viewing areas is fully accessible! From this point, you could pay for the additional trip on the Mont Blanc Panoramic cable car that takes you over to Aiguille du Midi! I would also recommend going early- so you get fewer clouds and crowds!

Absolutely amazing, once in a life time. Unique weather at 8 am, 4 degrees Celsius. At this altitude you are slow when you walk on the terraces.

Just out of this world experience. The views are absolutely stunning. The facilities are amazing considering the height. Multiple decks for panoramic views. Do keep in mind that the oxygen level will be low and some might feel a bit dizzy. Once in a life time experience,

Your amazing ride starts in the center of chamonix, there you will take the most thrilling cable car ride if you life. With the best views, grass that turns u to snow, and trees that turn into massive cliffs. Aguille du midi is a must for everyone. The views at the top are truly out of this world and make you seem so small. Would recommend to everyone visiting chamonix. Give out of five stars

Excellent view of the Alps from here. We were fortunate that the sky were clear. The view is better than the one we experienced in Jungfraujoch.

Wow!!! Just stunning. Exceptional views 360. Will do again. Review will not do any justice. You just have to go. Nice cafe as well. Stairs from elevator to cafe was a bit of a drag in the thin air. Wife’s lips turned purple from lack of oxygen. Be aware of the signs.

Incredible view . The beauty is breathtaking. You can see the highest peak in Europe from afar. Many people paragliding here. It is a must-visit place in life.

The cable bus from the Chamonix city with a change over in between takes you to the peak of Aiguille du Midi. This peak is exactly in the border of France and Italy. A 20 minutes journey of ten each takes you to the peak. To see the mont blanc, you have to take a pass like temporary visa to the italian side and from the peak to which a lift is taking you, you can see the mont blanc. There is also a glass cage with dead drop bottom. The view from the top is magnificient. It takes you to the view of entire iced surroundings. The mont blanc is the highest peak of Alps. More famous for limited edition pen. They are allowing a total of 2 and half hours to see and come back. On a sunny day, the views are beautiful. The climate is sometimes minus in the peak

Amazing experience. They give you a paper to indicate you have a time to get off the mountain to avoid rushes. Even though it was for 1.5 hours as the recommended time, we spent close to 4 hours (with about 1.5 hours for queuing for the glass dome alone). This was an unforgettable experience and highly recommended.

Tignes is a renowned ski resort with excellent skiing facilities and easy access to nearby resorts and amenities through reliable public transportation links. It features a funicular that takes visitors to a massive ski area, along with various options for eateries, hotels, shops, and even a lagoon. The ski area provides ample snow cover even in April, ensuring enjoyable skiing experiences for visitors of all skill levels. However, there are some outdated ski lifts that need replacing to improve the overall impression of the resort.
One of the best ski resorts I've been at. So much variety of slopes for any age and level. Especially when you have the Val d'esire ski pass. I stayed at the ski-in-out hotel "Belambra" with 3 breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so I can't tell you anything about the food. If you leave near the place I suggest coming in any day except Saturday because there will be traffic jams that will take hours of your time. The ski pass is pricy but it's worth it. Also if you can I suggest not coming during the school holidays, the number of schools and classes will make your ski a constant slalom, trying to avoid the kids. The only bad thing I can say about this place is only the crowds that come here that make your trip a living nightmare(just kidding). So if you are searching for a ski trip in spring - try tignes!
Bread W — Google review
Ski trip in mid february. Here a detailed review: Arrival: I stayed in Val Claret, the road up was clear and only on some parts covered with ice/snow. If there was recent snowfall, caution is advised. I liked that there is also a ski run going through the town of Val. Ski runs: Now the ski area Tignes-Val d'Isère is pretty big and you have lots of variation. About 75-80% of all runs are above the treeline. There are a lot of kids areas (in every town), lots beginner areas (around the Borsat chairlift and Solaise). For experts there are plenty of ski runs: the stade olympice/face de bellewarde (can be very icy), the foret, la Sache, Chicherit, Aiguille Percée. The Tunnel (near Leissieres) was sadly closed due to lack of snow) You have some pretty long ski runs as well: skiing all the way down from Grande Motte to Val Claret, from Aiguille Percée to Les Brevières, from Cugnai to Laisinant, from Borsat chairlift to Val d'Isère or Daille and from Col de l'Iseran to Fornet. My favorite runs were: blue Génépy & black Descente on Grande Motte, blue Grattalu, blue Anemone, black La Sache (upper section, the lower section was very icy), black La Foret and of course the famous offpiste run "Vallée Perdue". This last run is pretty adventurous and shouldnt be missed (you should be an advanced skier though). Snow Conditions: Due to the higher elevation it was very snow secure, though there were still some spots where the wind blow off the snow. The weather was blue sky and sun for 6 days, so ski runs sadly tend to become very icy, especially steeper runs under 2000m elevation. Lift infrastructure: The ski area is excellent interconnected, though compared to other european ski areas, you wont find any of those hyper modern bubble chair lifts. There are still some painfully slow and rough chair lifts, like Col des Ves, Grand Huit and Cema. Crowding: I learned to NEVER again come to the french alps on saturday mid february. The roads were full of traffic jams (Lyon-Albertville-Moutiers) and the drive took 3h longer than expected. Mostly british and dutch tourists. Tignes-Val d'Isère was the most crowded I've ever experienced in any ski area and I've been before in ski resorts in switzerland and austria at the same holiday period. There were lines up to 15min at some chairlifts. On the ski runs, especially the main runs down to the valley it was more like an obstacle course to avoid colliding with others. Then there were the ski schools, there were just too many of them. Even in the Vallée Perdue, I encountered a ski school. During lunch time it calmed a bit down and there was a window for a less crowded ski run. Staff: The staff at the lifts and desks were all very nice and helpful. When buying a ski pass via the Val d'Isère app, the machine wont get you your pass in Tignes, even though the ski area is connected, one of the guys easily helped me out and was really nice. The staff at the lifts were all cool except the guy at the bottom of Merles chairlift (at 3pm last tuesday), he was rudely yelling at me, stressing, even though there was no reason and there was no line of people behind. I signaled him to chill down and he became menacing. Pricing: The prices were in the middle to upper level. The ski pass for 5 days is around 355€. A little takeaway burger can be around 18€, a 1l beer is 21€ (!!). Its certainly not a place if you want to eat/drink on a budget. Scenery: The landscape is amazing, you can see Mont Blanc. Also check out the Aiguille Percée arch and the Vallee Perdue canyon (if you are a good skier). To even more enjoy the landscape you can even do a tandem ULM flight. I think though some people might prefer a bit more forested hills, if the weather would be foggy I bet its easily a whiteout in the ski area. *Verdict*: ++ variety of runs & area size + beginner & expert offer + nice offer of activities outside of skiing (ULM flight, Bungee ski jump, sledding etc.) - pricey ski area (especially concerning food drinks and hotels) -- can be severely crowded during school breaks

It’s a shame that ski passes are sold with the Carré Neige insurance, which turns out to be useless when you actually need it. There’s no point in offering a service that borders on a scam. The ski resort itself, as always, is excellent.

Just incredible. A perfect break from skiing. We do wish there wasn't an over friendly photographer taking photos of the kids though, that's weird
William R — Google review
The online capacity viewer was a little out of date and we had to wait to get in. Once in, lockers require either a 1 or 2 euro coin which is returned. The changing room is mixed gender with individual booths that are double sided, so you are fighting against people getting out of the pool to use one as well as other people wanting to get in. The pool itself is just a pool with a few jacuzzi like areas, a lazy river and a half pipe style slide. There is also a kiddy area, although I didn't use this. My over arching feeling was that it didn't measure up to its own hype. The pool's one redeeming feature is that they do not enforce the ridiculous French pool rule about men only being allowed to wear the skimpiest of swimsuits!
Tim S — Google review
A great place to spend a few hours. It was warm and clean in the changing rooms with lots of locker space and the complex wasn’t too busy for the first couple of hours of our visit and got busier as the afternoon went on. The water temp inside on a cold day in the main pool was slightly chilly so it’s worth having a towel but a perfect temp in the outside jacuzzi and splash park sections. We drove up from Saint Gervais as day guests on a cold wet day during the Easter holidays and it was the ideal rainy day activity for about 3 hours as we drove up out of the rain into snow and winter wonderland. The half pipe is really fun and the lazy river is great. If there was a big slide or two as well this place would be absolutely perfect. My kids are 8 & 10 and enjoyed trying to crack the climbing wall. When you could get space in the outside jacuzzi that was also a highlight as it began to snow. I would say it’s perfectly suited for toddlers and small kids and a fun activity for a family outing with older kids for an afternoon.
Natasha P — Google review
It’s colder than you would like it to be. There are no towels as well, and no private showers, so if you hve something planned for after, allow time to go home first. For 12 euros, walk in (they don’t take bookings) and unlimited time inside, it’s fair, the slide is good fun, there’s a long wait but it’s an extra I wasn’t expecting for. I probably won’t be back, manly cause the temperature is too cold to be enjoyable. It said 31° but I doubt (just saw other reviews complaining about the same)
Helolima — Google review
Great experience just could be a tad warmer! Kids didn't mind the water temp just the adults!
Kirsty H — Google review
A nice break from skiing, this pool is perfect for going when the weather is too bad to ski. Some lazy river routes, pools to swim and fun for the kids. There's even an outside jacuzzi. Can be quite busy, the only downside was children throwing snow at each other and splashing in the outside pool with no life guard or parents to tell them to stop - this was quite off-putting so I'm only rating it 4*. Changing rooms ok, a bit small cubicle sizes. Overall ok, it's the only water park pool in the area so I can't be picky.

Ski resort
Outdoor Activities
Avoriaz 1800 is a remarkable ski resort located in the Haute-Savoie department in Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France. It is part of the expansive Portes du Soleil ski domain, offering access to over 600 km of slopes and connecting to notable towns like Morzine and Les Gets. The resort's innovative car-free design demonstrates its commitment to sustainable development. Visitors can enjoy excellent skiing and snowboarding opportunities with numerous runs and off-piste sections.
One of the best ski resorts I've ever experienced. The snow is among the best in the Alps. There is everything you need in terms of slopes no matter the skill, . The particularity of Avoriaz is that there aren't any cars in the resort. To transport the luggage there are horse sleighs. And for the rest, by foot or with the skis. It's great for the kids and not only

Avoriaz is, without a doubt, the best ski resort we’ve ever been to — and that’s saying a lot after more than 30 years of skiing! Everything is designed for maximum comfort, with ski-in/ski-out access from almost everywhere. The resort is fully pedestrian, which makes getting around incredibly easy and safe. The staff is genuinely kind and helpful, and to our surprise, we haven’t had to queue at all for the chairlifts — even during busy hours. And the snow? Absolutely amazing, even at the very end of the season. We’ll definitely be coming back — and recommending Avoriaz to everyone we know!

This beautiful ski resort is very active in the summer with plenty for the family to stay active. Whether mountain biking, hiking giant games of checkers, chess and tennis plus trampoline. The aquatic center is an excellent family swim . The beautiful French Alps surrounding the town

Great skiing resort. We went over new year so was a bit busy but also great New Years Eve celebrations and midnight fireworks were amazing. All staff we talked to ( in hotel, restaurants, shops etc ) were lovely and friendly. Would recommend for 1st time skiers , families or someone who likes ski fun parks too

Love Avoriaz. It’s like home - a nice friendly place. Resort is great, slopes are fantastic. Its can get overcrowded at vacation time and some places are overpriced but overall its a great place for a skiing holiday. No cars in the resort, only horse-drawn carriages which gives it a special atmosphere, along with the wood-covered buildings which blend into the countryside.
Beren E — Google review
What a lovely ski resort in French Alps. Beautiful place with no cars alowed. By winter, there is a taxi from centre, horse pulled sleigh. They give you a blanket to cover legs, so you could not catch a cold 🙃 I will come back in summer, to see again this paradise!
Milos — Google review
Lovely and wintery with snow all around in this high altitude snow sure resort. Cars aren't allowed in the town so it's safe to walk around too. A bit artificial in feel though compared with nearby more traditional resorts, partly due to its newness, so this may make it feel less homely and welcoming in the summer. Wonderful in the winter though. Great skiing too.
Ian R — Google review
Truly memorable place, great people (one or two not so good!) totally ski in/ ski out place scenery to die for and something for everyone from the beginners to the more experienced skiers. Bars and restaurants great apart from a certain Italian! Booking our return trip!

Tramway du Mont-Blanc

Transportation
The Mont-Blanc Tramway, also known as TMB, is a scenic railway journey that starts from Fayet at 580 meters and reaches Nid d'Aigle at 2372 meters after a 12.4 km ride with six stops along the way for hikers. It serves as the starting point for climbers heading to Mont-Blanc via the Royal Route and offers families and contemplative travelers a safe way to experience the majestic spectacle of the high mountains.
Pricey but well worth the money. We boarded from the first stop and got off at the last one (both ways). It wasn't too crowded going up (13:15 slot) but it got very crowded when coming down. The view was magnificent near end of july during a heatwave and clear sky. We had lunch from the cafe next to the glacier while watching the view and it was breathtaking. You will have to book your return slot when you arrive at the top so don't forget to do that right away and be ready to stand the whole ride. It takes longer than 1hr so board early and grab a window seat if you can.

Nice ride up to just above the Bionnasay Glacier. The website sucks bigtime but don't let that withhold you from a beautiful day in the mountainbike.

Nice mountain and train but the staff insisted on all non climbers into one carriage so that we had to stand even though the other carriage had loads of space. They actually stopped us getting on the carriage with plenty of space

Worth the trip!! Great hiking at the upper stations.

Took this trip to explore more of the Mont Blanc range and wasn't disappointed. Incredible journey up the side of the mountains, sharing the trip with mountaineers who were off to the summit. Good choice of walks from the top - clothing for cooler weather & good footwear essential.

La Plagne is a renowned ski resort that offers a variety of winter activities, including a terrain park and options for dining and entertainment. The journey to the mountain road is surprisingly manageable, with expansive views along the way. As you approach the ski villages, you'll notice modest ski lifts catering to local day visitors before encountering more upscale signage and accommodations as you delve deeper into La Plagne's extensive skiing area.
A stunning ski resort! The natural surroundings are breathtaking, and the slopes are fantastic. There is an extensive variety of runs suitable for all skill levels, ensuring everyone can find something they enjoy. The resort offers a wide range of activities beyond skiing, so there’s always something to do. Waiting times for lifts are generally minimal, which is a big plus. The overall atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, making it an ideal place to unwind and truly enjoy skiing. We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great skiing experience at La Plagne!

Arguably one of the ugliest ski resorts in the French alps, however, this is in stark contrast to the excellent ski area, fast lifts and varied terrain. If you are an avid skier or snowboarder this is one of if not the best resort in the alps to visit.

Beautiful well designed apartments for skiers and walkers (depending on the season). Beautiful views of the mountains and lifts (depending on which side you're on I suppose). The apartments are compact but with 2 twin bedrooms, 2 bunks and a double sofa bed, with ease you could fit 8 people in ours. Galley style kitchen is best suited to one person cooking at a time so pre-plan to share the cooking duties if possible. Good extractor fan and each apartment is well appointed with plates and cutlery for 16 (2 meals a day) and a dishwasher as well as breakfast bowls and a host of utensils. We were only short a grater and a potato masher (apparently not French essentials). There a multiple lifts to various parts of the buildings as well as a lot of basement bootrooms/lockers to store your boots and skis and keep your apartment dry. The complex has a code entry to the pool, when you want access - daytime only (closes at 7) and no access on Saturday (change over day) with a new code each week. A 5 minute walk to the local Spar shop makes this a very convenient location with a Restaurant next door to the Spar as well as one opposite the entrance to Lagranges. The Ski and board hire shop is spitting distant from the complex check-in with convenient ski racks located around to stash your skis whilst you buy passes or snacks. The ski-pass system is very flexible at the resort with options for beginners being circa €35 a day, half day options, full resort passes, multi-resort passes and a pedestrian access pass to access the top of glacier via bubble lift for only €8! Superb. The resort is at 1800m so well above the snowline with easy access up to 3000m for fresher snow more often. Snowed again just as we left so if you're looking right now it's perfect for a last minute get away (9/01/23) enjoy! Back again for New Year 2024 - snowed every day so far and the trails are well groomed. Swimming Pool has been renovated as well as the wooden features across the resort.

Great ski resort especially if your using a motorhome parked right next to the main run back to La Plagne. Electric at the end of every row (which didnt trip once) and water is located at a hut at the entrance of site (short slippery walk). The while of thus network is mostly made up of about 70% blues 25% Reds and 5%blacks although many of the blues are more red like. Some great places to eat around the area but it is pricey.. €9-11 a pint !!! Food is around normally UK prices. The roads leading up the mountain to Villages was always mint ( the French know how todo it) the only time we had to put chains on was at the start of the aire as its not as well maintained as the main roads. I'd defo go back to this site and la plagne.

Lausanne Cathedral

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Lausanne Cathedral, consecrated in 1275, is a stunning Gothic masterpiece that has been an important landmark in Switzerland since medieval times. The exterior of the cathedral is impressive with its ornate painted portal, belfry, and vibrant rose window. Inside, visitors can admire the grand organs, 13th-century choir stalls, and ancient stained glass windows. It also serves as a stop for pilgrims following the Camino de Santiago within Switzerland.
I highly recommend talking a walk up through the old town to the cathedral. It's free, and a beautiful building with lots to see. You'll also get some great views of Lausanne from the front. If you want even better views you can pay a small fee and climb the bell-tower. This gives you 360 degree views of the city. Absolutely epic on a clear day. It's not for the faint-hearted or those with vertigo. Also not for those with major mobility problems. I use a walking stick due to bone spurs in my ankle and I made it OK. Just had to take it a bit slower.
Rachel B — Google review
Impressive cathedral with wonderful views of the town. A bit of a climb up steps if one takes the wrong route, but in any case well worth a visit. Large, quiet, peaceful, stained glass, statues, carvings, small and unobtrusive gift shop. Not overly commercial, and free to enter, as it should be but in some churches is not. Panoramic views of the town below.
Timothy P — Google review
One of the most impressive landmarks in Lausanne. The Gothic architecture is stunning, especially the stained glass windows that create a magical atmosphere when the sunlight shines through. Located on a hill, the cathedral also offers beautiful views of the city. Climbing the tower stairs can be a bit tiring, but the panoramic view at the top is absolutely worth it. A perfect mix of history, architecture, and scenery

Lausanne Cathedral is a stunning masterpiece of Gothic architecture with breathtaking views over the city and Lake Geneva. The interior’s stained glass and grand organ are awe-inspiring. Climb the tower for panoramic sights—it’s worth every step. A must-visit landmark rich in history and beauty.

A must-visit gem in Lausanne! This Gothic cathedral, dating back to the 12th century, offers stunning architecture and panoramic views of the city, Lake Geneva, and the Alps. Climbing the belfry is worth the minimal fee for the breathtaking scenery. Inside, the grand organ is a marvel, and the nightly tradition of the watchman announcing the hour adds a unique touch. Don't miss exploring the charming old town surrounding the cathedral. Highly recommended for history and architecture enthusiasts!

Specialty Museums
The Olympic Museum in Lausanne is not your typical art museum, but it offers a unique blend of sports history, technology, and art. Situated in the city that houses the International Olympic Committee, this museum showcases sculptures and interactive multimedia displays dedicated to the Olympic Games. It's a must-visit for art and culture enthusiasts. The recently refurbished museum provides an interactive and educational experience, featuring artifacts, history, Olympic torches, posters, equipment, and clothing.
We had a fantastic experience here. I never thought that this would actually be a good museum that I would enjoy seeing because I assumed it was all about the games, but watching the history and seeing the interactivity of all of the different exhibits, this was really really good well worth the money and the Front Desk guy was really nice and I had some sort of ticket to something else so I was able to get a minimal discount and this was a really nice way to spend an afternoon. I did not need to buy tickets in advance and even the lobby is gorgeous so unless you’re waiting a long time, it was fine looking around there
G V — Google review
We were here in early July and it was a nice walk along the lake to this museum perched on a small hill in the middle of a lovely park. Please visit the grounds even if you do not step inside the museum. Nice views over the lake and pleasant outdoor Olympic related art and information sprinkled through the outdoor grounds and all of this is free to access. Inside it is a well curated place with lots of information for an Olympics fan. We did it all in about 2 hours. The gift shop is where you buy the entrance tickets. Pro tip: if you do have a ticket and are there during the daytime, you do NOT need a lunch reservation to simply have a drink on their glorious outdoor terrace at the restaurant on the top floor. We just asked the host if we could sit outside for a drink and he enthusiastically said of course! What views!!! Drinks were not cheap but not more expensive than any other restaurant. So if you are curious and didn’t make a lunch reservation, please do stop by and see if you can snag a seat outside. The staff were kind and helpful.

It is obviously a must visit museum if you are in the Olympic capital Lausanne. Everything is very well presented. I particularly love the video clips introducing every Olympic Games through the years, as every clip begins with important events of that year. I’d very much love to finish them all but my schedule doesn’t allow me to. All the collections are inspiring and hold collective memories of people from all over the world, some of which remind me of the days when I was little and watched on TV the Olympic Games with my father. The -1 floor is fun. View of the lake from the terrace of the restaurant is stunning. Free access for Swiss pass holders.
Yulan Z — Google review
Very nice. We were desperately looking for a clean bathroom that’s also free lol. It’s nice to see the poster of the Beijing Olympic in 2008. Unfortunately we only found the poster card but not many other souvenirs options such as fridge magnet for the Beijing Olympic.
Shijia W — Google review
Free admission with the Lausanne city pass. Cool exhibition showcasing the history of the Olympics from ancient times, all the way through to 2026. Highlights include a section about art and design of the posters and iconography of the Olympics, as well as a well rounded gift shop with good items at all price ranges
L Z — Google review
Olympics museum is a must visit place for all Olympic fans. The location is stunning on the shores of lake Geneva in Lausanne. Infrastructure of museum is excellent with free locker rooms for storage. You study entire history of Olympics from its origin in Greece to revival of modern Olympics. There are archives of summer and winter Olympic games, mascots and models of all Olympic torches, Olympic uniforms etc. The museum used excellent multimedia to present everything. There are videos on projector screen which display opening ceremonies of all Olympic seasons. However, Olympics museum has lots of scope for expansion considering its huge space. You can have interactive games like FIFA museum in Zurich. A Hall of Fame can also be made featuring most celebrated Olympians of all times like Michael Phelps. A special section for upcoming Olympics can also be done. Hope to see these updates with passing time. Entry to Olympics museum is free with Swiss Travel Pass.

Parallel Lines Ski and Snowboard School

Ski school
Outdoor Activities
During their ski holiday in Mottaret, the writer booked two private ski classes with Parallel Lines Ski and Snowboard School. The instructors, John and Phil, were exceptional in adapting to the different skill levels of the participants. They closely observed, guided, instructed, motivated, adjusted techniques, shared knowledge, offered praise and instilled confidence. This allowed the skiers to enjoy descending the mountain with newfound skills and even attempting skiing in Jerusalem!
I’ve just come back from an incredible 6 days of adult beginner classes with John at Parallel Lines. I can’t think of any way the experience could have been better! John was helpful, supportive and still challenged us in all the right places, giving us both the technical skills and confidence to tackle greens and blues. He was always watching us for both safety but also to provide tweaks and changes to keep our standards high. The pacing was great, and three hours each morning works well, and great that all classes are with native English speakers. John was so friendly and really took the time we spent on the lifts to get to know us. He also added in little nuggets of local information which was so helpful in learning how to navigate the Three Valleys. I will 100% be back to progress my skills and would recommend Parallel Lines to anyone looking for lessons from Meribel.
Katie D — Google review
Had a week of incredible lessons at parallel lines. I was a complete beginner and was lucky that there weren't any other beginners that week apart from me so the first few sessions were 1 on 1. Roger was an amazing teacher, adapted really well to my progress and was great fun to spend time with. I'm astounded at the progress I made, I was confidently skiing blues by the end of day 4 and could really make the most of my trip! Heartily recommended!
James R — Google review
I found Parallel Lines a very good ski school. They were very good at moving people up and down levels, to ensure that everyone got the experience they needed and there was no need for stress or panic at being out of depth. I started with Jean, who was so calm and positive and really helped to build my confidence and I then moved to Phil’s group. Phil is a very clear teacher and pushed us just the right amount. I really enjoyed the social life in the group too and was able to ski with a few of the new friends that I made in the groups. Thank you for a brilliant week Phil and Parallel Lines!
Sarah J — Google review
Had an amazing experience here as a total novice skier. Had John the first day and he really helped explain the basics and fundamentals needed to get on the slopes. A true gent. Then spent five days out with Phil on the slopes and he is absolutely brilliant. Really intuitive teacher willing to explain in different ways. Serious about good skiing but plenty of jokes along the way and also helped us with getting around the slopes, directions, information about the valleys and what not. Even some food recommendations! This was the perfect way to meet new people (including the brilliant instructors) and getting the basics of skiing nailed down at the same time, for a really fair price. Hope to return one day, and will certainly have lessons here if I do. A personal thanks to John and Phil for their help, support and great attitude.
Jack B — Google review
Ed was an incredible instructor. 5 years ago i suffered a bad fall on a red run and have not skied since. I was extremely nervous of getting back on skis again so decided to join a group lesson with parallel lines and it made all the difference. Ed watched each of us in turn, in our basic state, before providing us with specific pointers to ski more smoothly, achieving more natural control and speed. I’d definitely go back again and join next level up next time I’m in Meribel. We also had a good bit of craic along the way. I’ve had a lot of ski lessons over the years but I’ve never felt so confident or relaxed as I did being part of Ed’s group. So thank you parallel lines for a very enjoyable experience.
Mary M — Google review
Booked via SkiBro. Missed 2 of 6 group lessons due to rockfall/road closure. Esme swiftly helped arrange for private lessons with John on day 2 to catch-up which helped with day 3-6 with the group led by Dan, who was amazing. Great size group of 5 and overall lucky with great conditions too. Would highly recommend Parallel Lines to all beginners.

I am so glad I booked into ski school, it completely transformed my trip . Mo was the most patient , funny and informative instructor. He was so invested in our journey . I trusted him completely to push us when we needed and have fun when we needed . Our class had a variety of adult ages and we became good friends by the end of the week. A huge Thankyou Mo for an extremely memorable week 😊

Les Saisies is a stunning mountain resort that transforms with the seasons, offering exhilarating downhill skiing in winter and thrilling mountain-biking trails during the summer months. Nestled at an altitude of 1600m, it provides breathtaking views of Mont Blanc and makes summer hikes more accessible. The charming village boasts a variety of restaurants serving local cuisine, including delicious cheese and wine that are not to be missed.
Great ski resort with plenty of slopes and runs to suit most people. There are many activities across the area including skiing, walking, cross-country skiing and taboggan runs. It caters for the French (obviously and understandably), but this means that the prices are reasonable and the food and drink are good. Just don't tell the British!

Lovely village, great hikes from there with stunning bike rides too (both mtb and road). Great bakery and fromageries too. Highly recommend to stay instead of the better known resorts in summer

This resort has a great range of skiing certainly for green red and blue runs. I cannot comment on the blacks! There's good variation within each category also. The lifts are gradually being updated and lots are bigger and faster than formerly. The station has a great record for snow coverage when others are barren. Parking and bus access good also.

What a Ski vacation!! This Station it's just amazingly beautiful. And gigantic. Even in a whole week, we couldn't make the whole thing. Café du Jet d'Eau is a warm and inviting restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful, even providing English translations and menus. The cathedral boasts a mix of architectural styles, including Neoclassical, Romanesque, and Baroque elements. It is renowned as the adopted home church of Protestant Reformation leader John Calvin. Visitors can explore the plain yet impressive interior and discover treasures dating back to antiquity on the archaeological site.
Cathedral Saint-Pierre in Geneva is best known as John Calvin’s home church during the Protestant Reformation. Built in the 12th century, it mixes Romanesque and Gothic styles. You can climb 157 steps to the north tower for Geneva’s best panoramic view. Beneath the cathedral lies one of Europe’s largest archaeological sites, with ruins dating back to the 4th century.

Impressive cathedral in the old town area with lots of period buildings around it. On a bit of a raised area but an easy walk up. Quiet, peaceful, can sit for as long as one likes. Free to enter, as it should be, but is not in some places. Different parts obviously built/added/repaired/rebuilt at different times, which is always interesting. Well worth a visit.

Undoubtedly, this is a majestic cathedral in the heart of Geneva, with stunning Gothic architecture and a historic stone façade. The church is very well preserved, and from its current state, you can almost imagine the grandeur it must have had 1,000 years ago. Inside, the serene atmosphere, detailed sculptures, and beautiful architectural features make it a remarkable place to explore. A must-visit for anyone interested in history or architecture.

Visiting St. Pierre Cathedral in Geneva was truly memorable. One of the highlights for me was climbing the 160 steps to the top of the tower. The stairwell is narrow and may be a little intimidating for some, but the effort is completely worth it. Once at the top, you’re rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Geneva and the surrounding area—perfect for photography enthusiasts. The cathedral also has a small shop where you can browse a selection of cards and postcards as a memento of your visit. Inside and out, the cathedral offers plenty of opportunities for taking beautiful photos, from its impressive architecture to the breathtaking vistas from the tower. Despite the slightly nerve-wracking climb, it’s an experience I’d highly recommend.

This cathedral is a highlight located in the center of Geneva's old town. The top offers a great view over the city and the lake. I recommend combining a visit with a walk to the beautiful nearby square "Place-Du-Bourg-de-Four" (my favourite place in old town). Take a break there for a snack and a drink. Enjoy!

I always try to visit at least one church during my travels, though sometimes it doesn’t work out. I’m so glad I made it to this cathedral—it was actually one of the reasons I wanted to visit Geneva in the first place. I’d heard about the 157-step spiral staircase, and let’s just say I realized how out of shape I was while climbing it! But I made it, and it was absolutely worth it. Such a beautiful piece of history to experience. The fee to go up is currently at 7chp.

The "Nothing to Photograph in ..." series has made its way to Cathédrale Saint-Pierre Genève, highlighting its serene interior and breathtaking views from the towers. I highly recommend exploring this historic gem. Follow me to discover your next destination.

Excellent 360° views of the city, lake & mountains. The stairs were in a very good condition compared to other church towers in Europe. The entrance price was included in our tourist city pass so it's a very much worthwhile visit.

One of the best lake city I have ever been to! Beautiful lake with mountains on one side and city on the other side. Many places to relax, swim. The best part is lake is very flat so nothing to worry about. Great crowd and very happening place.

Fantastic, very touristy nowadays but there are still some hidden gems that are quiet but you’ll need a car to find them (one was through an industrial estate so very hidden). Restaurants are great and people very friendly

This would have been beautiful in the right weather. It was just our luck that we arrived in the height of Summer, at the end of a heatwave and were met with heavy rain and thunderstorms o the water didn't have its famous greenish-blue hue. It is a lovely natural beauty surrounded by mountains.
Sarah L — Google review
I was just remembering how much we loved it there last year. My son and I rented bikes and went all around the lake. We also got a pedal boat and took a swim. Saw some young people doing a rope swing jump and did that too. Fabulous.

I took a day trip from Lyon, a great place, I'm sorry I only stayed one day, it's definitely worth 2-3 days! A place not to be missed if you're in the area!

It is a MUST to go, partying, water scakating, swimming and lots of boat cruises around the great lake surrounded by magnificent mountains. 30 min away and your up amongst snowy mountains as early as September.

The Royal Monastery of Brou is a flamboyant Gothic-style monastery renowned for its ornate marble royal tombs and oak choir stalls. Founded in the early 1500s as a burial place for the Dukes and their families, it was established by Margaret of Austria. Visitors can explore the vast interior for a small fee, with interactive displays and videos bringing its history to life. The monastery houses a large collection of artworks, traditional wooden toys, and intricate architecture.
Built in the 1500's, this is a magnificent monument to tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly spoke French and English.

We enjoyed our visit to the monastery and the museum. Beautiful site.
Michael M — Google review
Very beautiful monastery with a rich history, unsurprising given how old Europe is. And this one has been well maintained, even hosting music and arts shows outside of just the walk around tour of the monastery itself. Obvious ongoing upkeep and restoration work is happening which is great given that this monastery is close to 500 years old. Doesn't look a day over 300. 🤪

A beautiful historical place where to spend a pleasant and interesting couple of hours. The architecture is impressive, the place is big and there is plenty of things to see: the church, the various rooms, the ancient tools used for the building, some historical facts etc... there was also a room with an art exhibition. Spent a wonderful afternoon there!
Sonia J — Google review
This place is breathtaking. The outside is beautiful and the inside is just amazing. Definitely worth the price of admission. Plan to allow yourself at least a few hours to enjoy and take in all the art, artifacts, and architecture this place has to offer.

Well maintained monastery and church with a very interesting history. The church hosts the graves of Philibert II., his mother and his wife Margaret of Austria, which are great pieces of art from Flamish sculpturers.

Stunning cathedral with a very unique roof displaying the colours of the Duchess of Burgundy built between 1506 and 1532. The monastery is behind the church.

Arenas & Stadiums
Groupama Stadium, home to Olympique Lyonnais football club, boasts nearly 60,000 seats and also serves as a venue for concerts. Visitors have praised the easy access to the stadium and its large solar panel-equipped car park, showcasing the club's environmental commitment. Inside, the well-maintained stands offer impressive views of the pitch. Some recommend sitting at Row 10 for an optimal viewing experience during football matches.
Just like most sporting stadiums, easy to navigate, stewards helpful and friendly - the only people that seem to struggle are the ones who can't read the ticket they bought. It tells you the letter area, block code, row number and seat number. Use this and you'll be good. My only insight is that the row numbers are on like the step level of the actual seat, rather than printed on the step itself, we found it easy but its amazing just how many didn't seem to look, but I suppose it's a bit different looking for empty seats among crowds and trying to upset as few a people as possible

Lyon 1 - Arsenal 4. Great stadium to visit. Good food and drink choices. Some local restaurants to visit. Can be a bit of a pain to get to on public transport - took about an hour on buses.

Stadium tour in English. It was really cozy, friendly tour - less commerical than the UK stadium tours. Massive credit to our guide Thibaut, whose English was exceptional and his know of OL, the team, the stadium, the history was first class. Also the guy in the museum was so friendly and knowledgeable. A really great few hours.

Very good once you get past security to the area around the stadium, very modern, loads of food/beverage options

What an atmosphere!! Lyonnaise were quite loud and choreographed. Saw the match VS Manchester United in Europa League, couldn’t pick a better match to watch!!
Rinor Z — Google review
Was at this stadium for the Olympics and it was also my first time watching football. I think the journey to get here was really enjoyable - the tram service was organised I think specifically for the Olympics. It was EUR5.00 to book a tram ticket that was set up specifically for the event. I really liked this stadium compared to Stade de France. It seemed more updated and had lots of art to look at. There was also more shade while we were waiting to be let into the stadium. I was quite surprised that the toilets didn't have a toilet seat. Wasn't expecting this is in such a nice stadium. I also really like that the tram dropped us right outside the stadium so a better experience overall in terms of getting to and from this venue. Be very mindful of sitting in the sun though. I'm pretty sure I got heat stroke because I made the mistake of not moving to the shade. I bought chips from here which I think cost about EUR6.00.
Rachel S — Google review
This is a fantastic venue that seamlessly blends the excitement of football games with the electric atmosphere of concerts. As the home of Olympique Lyonnais, the stadium offers an unforgettable experience for football fans, with passionate crowds creating an intense vibe during matches. The facilities are top-notch, ensuring that fans enjoy every moment. Beyond football, the stadium hosts a variety of concerts, attracting big-name artists and delivering spectacular shows. The acoustics are impressive, making it an ideal spot for live music. Whether you’re cheering for your team or dancing to your favorite band, the energy here is contagious. Overall, Groupama Stadium is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the vibrant culture of Lyon through sports and music. Good to consider transportation options when visiting because it’s located away from the city center but note that there is a train line that’s very close to the stadium.
Blaise M — Google review
As a football fan, I would like to visit this Stadium. It's one of the mosy historical teams in France and alsoin the Europe. Unfortunately, the "rules" of the Stadium, as every employee told me, was that is open only at the weekends. As i told them that i came from so far away and i would like just a couple of photos as souvenir, that was something that is not possible. What a pity!!! I hope next time they will fix the "rules" issue !!!!

Mini World Lyon

Mentioned on

Mini World Lyon is an indoor attraction that showcases intricate, small-scale models of urban and natural environments. Despite its relatively small size in terms of square meters, the displays captivate visitors with a myriad of interesting and quirky details. From a person hanging off a derailed roller coaster cart to a murder scene in an apartment building, there's plenty to explore. The mini Lyon feature is particularly impressive.
We went without kids, but we found that MiniWold Lyon is a great place for people of all ages! We spent about 3 hours and saw beautiful miniatuares of Lyon, Côte d'Azur (a new addition), and other places in France. All of these included pop culture references to music and cinema, and you also have to find 5 Waldo's and get a prize for each! There was also a Japanese-themed exhibition with lots of workshops and activities, such as make-up, drawing, calligraphy, etc. The most fun part for a millenial couple was to relive our childhood through video and arcade games of the Mario universe! All in all, definitely a great place to spend an afternoon when visiting Lyon!
Lynda B — Google review
Not suitable for everyone who has already seen the bigger brother in Hamburg. Absolutely no comparison: Mini World lacks details, originality and quality: no weathering, even 300 yr old buildings look like newly constructed, some walls have even been cut out of printed paper. The cars are mostly 1:1 bought and often misplaced. There is hardly any motion: nearly no car moves, maybe 2 or 3 trains are in motion. Weird arrangements of things (see photos): lego buildings, bought toy robots etc. A lot is not working: trains stand still, half of the button functions is not working or so unspectacular that you don’t realize it. Light flashes where it shouldn‘t. At night all lights are either on or off, no realistic gradual light changes. Only plus was the newly added Jurassic Park model which was built with a bit more love. A lot is not working at

We absolutely loved this! Two adults and a kid, the kid was running around trying to find little Mr Men whilst we were entranced looking for the film, TV and popular culture references. I could have spent hours there, I was captivated by it all, genuinely a brilliant excursion and something we'll do again the next time we return to Lyon
Dom T — Google review
Always amazing, both temporary and permanent exhibits. Annual pass with kids ages 4 and 6 and we go every few months and they love it more each time!
Ivan T — Google review
Absolutely amazing place. Suitable for kids from 7 to 90 Take the "backstage" tour. You will never see these type of thing with the same eyes.
Hector G — Google review
I came here because it was included in the Lyon City Card and I enjoyed my time here (even though it seems like it’s more for kids). They have a lot of displays with miniature dolls and scenes. They even give you a booklet to try to find all the popular ones like Marilyn Monroe, Aliens, Mary Poppins, Harry Potter, Nemo, Jurassic Park, etc. I wouldn’t come here again alone (as an adult), but I would definitely come here with kids and easily spend 2h: trying to find all the characters. It also wasn't crowded when I came during the weekend.
Alex — Google review
One if the few things that a whole family can enjoy. It is made really nice with a lot of small details. I really recommend!
Plamen D — Google review
Myself and my kids loved this small, quirky museum. You could easily spend a long time here because there are so many details to explore. The creators of the mini worlds have a brilliant and bonkers sense of humour - some of the scenes are hilarious with random penguins, dinosaurs and monkeys scattered around, and people in compromising situations. An added bonus is the 3d cinema showing 2 short films. Free entry with the Leon City Card. Also very quiet - probably because it's a bit out of the city centre.

The attractions cater to kids up to around 12 years old and include a carousel, train rides, museums, and seasonal water slides. Visitors can also enjoy the monorail and the baby touro river.
Great park, animals well fed and taken care of, did the private visit where we could feed several animals ans it was amazing. Staff was great too.

We had a great time there with our son of 6 years old. It's not too big, but still many animals to spot! Besides animals, there are also many attractions for the little ones! We had a great day.

Great day trip for all especially in July and August when the water park is open. New slides in the pool are excellent for kids under 7 and new games are fun. I highly recommend it.

More for children, not really for the animals We saw a zookeeper use a fire extinguisher on monkeys from the side to keep them appart We had to pay for the waterpark too, eventhough we did not want to use it. It was all in the price and no other options were available, it was misleading. But he parking is free.

I visited Touroparc Zoo a couple of weeks ago to celebrate my birthday, and I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! What made this experience so special was how hands-on it was. Unlike other soigneur experiences where you barely get to interact with the animals, Christophe made sure we were involved and engaged the whole way through. You can tell he genuinely cares for the all the reptiles and takes great pride in sharing that with others. We had the chance to see so many incredible species up close, and he gave us a fascinating look into what it’s really like to work behind the scenes at a zoo. Thank you, Christophe, for making my birthday so memorable. Your enthusiasm made the visit come alive! Highly recommend this experience to anyone, whether you're an animal lover or just curious. Truly a 10/10!

Very! nice park but absolutely ridiculous how weird they are about the height in the attractions, when accompanied by an adult. I was not allowed to drive the horses attraction with my baby who really got to love this attraction in Parc le pal. We stood 15 minutes in the burning sun. When it was our turn he pointed at the sign saying my baby should be 90cm. At Parc le pal we did this attraction multiple times without an issue. This ruined the moment. All other safe attractions you can do as parent with your kid, is not allowed, really frustrating. The wild water attraction or the mono rail are allowed :/ Please check your height restrictions... Everything else is really nice, but above gave everything a bad taste.

We visited on a cooler weekday in September and the place was very quiet which was perfect for us to see all the animals It's clear the animals are well cared for and healthy The rides and water park looked good but they were not available this late in the season

The VIP and Soigneur experiences are totally worth it. We have done the VIP visit twice and the both times was super amazing. Highly recommended. We chose to do the Soigneur experience in the reptile house and we're extremely happy with our choice. It was very very interactive and we learned so many interesting facts from Christoph. Thanks so much for the amazing experience with Curu, the snakes, lizards, iguana, crocodiles, and turtles!
