Mountains
Taishan Mountain, also known as Mount Tai, is a significant cultural and natural site listed as a World Heritage site. Despite not being the tallest mountain at 1545 meters, it holds great religious and historical importance. It's been revered by ancient emperors and is considered the foremost of China's Five Sacred Mountains. The Peach Blossom Ravine at its western foot is named after the abundance of peach trees found there.
A good place to visit for some scenic views. You also get a good workout with many steps to get to the top, even if you take the cable car.
Cher K — Google review
Great walk up 7000 steps. It got busy at the top, with lots of people huffing and puffing up the steep bit. Well worth a visit. Weekends and good days make it get very busy. So be grateful at the top when it gets steep and you too are huffing and puffing, whilst trying to impress your partner with your stamina, strength and fitness🤣
Mark T — Google review
During my recent trip to China, I had the opportunity to visit Taishan Mountain, one of the tallest and most significant mountains in the country. The journey to the top was both challenging and exhilarating. I started my ascent in the early hours of the morning, determined to reach the summit in time to witness the sunrise. The climb was steep and demanding, but the anticipation of the view kept me going. As I reached the peak, I was greeted with the most breathtaking view I have ever seen. The sun slowly rose over the horizon, casting a golden glow over the landscape. The sky was painted with vibrant hues of orange and pink, and the entire scene felt almost surreal. It was a moment of pure tranquility and awe. In addition to the stunning sunrise, Taishan Mountain is rich in cultural and historical significance. The pathways are lined with ancient inscriptions and temples, each telling a story of the mountain's past. I took my time exploring these sites, immersing myself in the history and spirituality of the place. Overall, my visit to Taishan Mountain was an unforgettable experience. The combination of natural beauty, physical challenge, and cultural richness made it a truly unique adventure. I highly recommend anyone traveling to China to include Taishan Mountain in their itinerary. Witnessing the sunrise from the summit is a memory that will stay with you forever.

A beautiful and challenging Taishan to hike either with your foot or a hybrid mode of using available cable cars/bus.

This breathtaking shot captures a panoramic view from Mount Tai (Tai Shan), one of China's Five Great Mountains and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The scene is steeped in cultural, spiritual, and natural beauty.
Manish D — Google review
Mount Taishan is one of the five Sacred mountains in China. It is situated in Tai’an city, Shandong Province. It is worth to mention that this mount is in the UNESCO world heritage sites. This is one of the most climbed mountains. The legend says that all Kings of China have had climbed this mountain and prayed for the success to the God. The best time for climbing us Summer and spring. If you want to have a nice scenery, then avoid to climb the mount in winter and Autumn. During my first climbing I could see the mountain and the city all in fog which doesn’t happen often as the locals say and only the luckiest people can be witnesses of this beauty. Another best time to visit the mountain is any night in summer because in the morning you will find an amazing sunset view if the weather is nice and not rainy. You can climb by foot which will take about 4 hours if you take a bus to the starting point. You might also take a cable car to the top which is not operating at night. In case of climbing at night be ready to experience cold on the top. Prepare tent where you can sleep and have jackets with you.
Hasmik M — Google review
one of my great experience for visiting China, and challenged myself from the flights of stairs to see the sun rising. When you are up there, remember to rent the coat and return back at the peak of the mountain, don't bring it down like me... it was HELL.
Jeffery J — Google review
Great experience! The weather was very cold but it was great because walking up all those steps got me sweating! There were some temples at the top and lots of nice snacks to buy on the way up!

Ge Garden is an amazing treasure in the heart of a historical city. To understand the Chinese culture and language is to understand almost everything you see here. Understanding the gardens is a major component of this. I recommend a guide. The 4 hills and the bamboo variety is one of a kind.

Decently interesting garden/park with some cool history and architecture from the Ming Dynasty. It's super pretty with different types of bamboo and flowers everywhere, but very crowded in the summer (especially). Known for it's Four Seasons Mountains, which are big rockery builds in each of the corners of the garden which mirror the four seasons.

The 何园, a renowned Chinese garden from the Qing dynasty, is a must-visit for architecture and landscape enthusiasts. The garden boasts rockeries, a residential compound, and guided tours. Although not very large in size, the garden is filled with intricate details in every corner. The space planning is exceptional with great attention to the relationship between nature, landscape features and architecture. Narrow spaces between buildings are crafted meticulously too adding further charm to this national park's overall beauty.
One of my all time favourite gardens in my hometown. Great place to take aesthetic pictures. It’s been three and half years since I came back home last time, nothing much is changed but the tickets prices lol. The tickets for adult is ¥45. If you got student ID it’s ¥25.

A nice traditional Chinese traditional architecture where you see how they used to live in the past, it's a nice place to go to spend an hour or two.

some while ago we planned a garden design tour in this Chinese architecture heritage, and we couldn't finish our agenda. this place was not so big but full of details in every corner (though some details were remodelled). the space planning was marvellous, with delicate attention on the relationship between nature, landscape, and architecture features. some narrow spaces between buildings were particularly fascinating, they were meticulously crafted too ! please do some homework and plan more time !

Don't buy anything from the stores around there, it's probably fake, I was at the nike store and was just about to pay then I looked at the shoe and thought it looked a bit weird, so I googled nike stores near me and there were no stores near me, so I asked the staff if it was real and it wasn't. When I went to adidas, they said it was real but obviously it was all fake.

Tianning Temple (天寧寺) is an important building in Jiangsu Province. It attracts visitor for the majestic structure and long history building: 1. The structure feature: this 13-storey octagon shaped temple is 153.7 meter height, which is the highest pagoda in China and in the world. There is an elevator for visitor to the top floor. You have to prepare the money. 2. The history feature: There are about 500 Arhat (羅漢) statues embedded in the both sides of the wall. The artistic level is very high and rare, which is seen as the treasure of the temple. I recommend visitor can go to the Hongmei Park (紅梅公園) after temple trip. You can stroll in this beautiful park and discover different view for the Tianning Temple.

Tianning Temple in Shanghai is a truly sacred and peaceful place filled with positive energy. The moment you step inside, you can feel a deep sense of calm and spiritual connection. The temple’s architecture and chanting create a serene atmosphere for prayer and reflection. It’s a wonderful place to offer incense, meditate, and experience the compassion and blessings of the Buddhas. A meaningful destination for anyone seeking peace of mind and spiritual growth.

Its a great place. Many food places and sourvenirs. But the food is not muslim friendly/halal. Muslims.. you can bring your own food/snacks if you want to visit the place to avoid hunger.

One of the most amazing place to visit if you want to experience the feels of ancient China. The place has been preserved for over 800 years and it is well regularly maintained so the place still looks amazing to this day. It is good to visit during the day but it is when night comes that the place comes alive and instantly transport you to ancient China. There are lots of store to keep you occupied so better save some space in your luggage for souvenirs.

A huge garden with a lake and many tourist heritage attractions. Many food restaurants and souvenirs too. I come in rainy season, so cannot enjoy the garden maximally. But if come at spring or summer, the place should be very greenery and peacefully for our mind. A lot of place we can sit and relax and watch the scenery. Not too much direction boards so sometimes quite difficult to find the way.

Beautiful gardens and Chinese architecture. A visit to this site will give you a real feel of the ancient traditions of China. The gardens are green in winter. But the full colours of the flowers will be experienced in spring and summer. In winter one should be prepared for temperature's of less than zero even on a sunny day

I was absolutely blown away by this place. Amazing ancient architecture, plenty tea gardens, flower gardens and places you can sit and enjoy a meal. You can walk around, rent a boat or get a cable car. I love the quaint library for its souvenir ideas. It's full of stunning history. I picked up a pair of handmade shoes among other things. Theres's a little courtyard with stone water tubs where tourists and locals toss in a coin in exchange for happiness. At least this is what I was told! Of course I chucked in a few coins.

The temple boasts a 7-tiered pagoda and a golden Buddha statue that illuminates vividly at night.

A bizarre experience. First, you were greeted with an army of “Dama”(大媽 / aunties)on a stage competing for a sponsored dance competition near the temple entrance. The music was, uh, deafening. Then you would bump into monks paying attention to their mobile phones and locals smoking inside the temple area. There was also a shopping corridor located next to the Temple, littered with run-down shops and stalls selling antiques, as well as vintage comic books and Mao badges from the 60s and 70s of the last centuries. If you were into architecture of centuries-old buildings with an authentic Zen vibe, I am not sure this is the place you are looking for. Free admission though.

Tiger Hill Pagoda, also known as Yunyan Pagoda, is a 7-story hilltop structure that was originally part of a temple built in the 10th century. Adjacent to the Humble Administrator Garden, it stands at the center of Tiger Hill Garden. The pagoda leans to one side, adding to its unique charm and making it a must-see attraction in Suzhou. According to local legends dating back to 496 B.C.
A lovely place to visit with family. If walking is a problem, there is a shuttle bus that takes you to the top. But it’s really not a very difficult walk if you are able. The grounds are lovely . It is definitely worth a visit if you are in Suzhou.

It was a great experience, the botanical garden and the great view made the visit very magical. One of the best places I have visited up until now.

A must visit place in old Suzhou city. The park is pretty big, with lots of gardens and attractions placed all around. It cost only 70 yuan to enter the Tiger Hill area. The leaning tower of Suzhou is just as cool as the tower of Pisa.
Anastasia G — Google review
Tiger Hill is one of Suzhou’s oldest historical sites, with over 2,500 years of history. Legend says that after King Helü was buried here, a white tiger appeared and guarded his tomb for three days, giving the hill its name. At the heart of the lush, peaceful complex stands the Huqiu Pagoda, a thousand-year-old tower from the Northern Song Dynasty, famously leaning about 2.3 degrees—often called the “Leaning Tower of China.” This seven-story pagoda, rising through the trees, perfectly blends ancient architecture, legends, and the timeless atmosphere that makes Suzhou so unique.

Came especially to see cherry blossoms. It does not fail! So beautiful, abeit crowded. Entrance fee rmb60. Could spend 1 to 2 hours. The leaning Pagoda was quite interesting but not allowed to enter as it's seems unsafe. One of the nicer gardens to visit in Suzhou.

The Classical Gardens of Suzhou, including the renowned Humble Administrators Garden, are UNESCO World Heritage Sites that showcase over two thousand years of Chinese landscape garden design. The gardens feature a harmonious blend of buildings, ponds, bridges, and trees that convey stories from the past.
This is one of my favorite places in Suzhou. The atmosphere and the surrounding are the next level! I can feel like my lunges are full of fresh air here. The inside of the building is very well organized and clean. I fall in love with this city and their culture, everything is beautiful. Important note: do not wear slipper or flipflop!!

Stunning architectural and artwork in a single venue. Has a bit of similarities to Miho Museum, which was also by I.M. Pei. It's really crowded even on a weekday. Plan a week prior and register before going.

A Must-Visit Cultural Gem in Suzhou. Visited Suzhou Museum and was genuinely impressed! The museum beautifully blends modern minimalist architecture with traditional Chinese elements. It’s not just a museum, it’s a visual and cultural experience. The exhibits showcase Suzhou’s rich history, including intricate jade carvings, ancient calligraphy, and Ming/Qing dynasty relics. The flow of the layout makes it easy to navigate even for first-timers. The architecture and interior design are photogenic from every angle, definitely a must-visit photo spot. The tranquil garden inside offers a peaceful escape and is very “zen”, perfect to just sit and relax. It’s FREE to enter, but you may need to book a slot online a week before via WeChat app. I’d recommend coming early to avoid the crowd and to enjoy the calmness of the space. The crowd control could be better during weekends, and the museum café was a bit underwhelming. Still, Suzhou Museum is totally worth a visit if you're in town, especially for those who enjoy culture, design, and photography. You can combine your visit with nearby Humble Administrator's Garden where both are within walking distance!
Bernice T — Google review
I was attracted to The Suzhou Museum, because it was designed by the celebrated Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei (a native of Suzhou). The museum is more than just a repository of historical artifacts—it is a stunning work of art that seamlessly marries modernist architectural principles with the soul of classical Chinese gardens. It is an immersive experience where i find the building itself is as captivating as the collections. What immediately strikes me is the brilliant use of the local Jiangnan vernacular: white walls, dark gray roofs, and an intimate relationship with water and rock. Pei translated these traditional elements into a contemporary language of stark white stucco and geometrical gray granite tiles. The result is pure visual poetry. Inside, the use of natural light is masterful, creating a contemplative atmosphere that highlights the exquisite collection of paintings, calligraphy, porcelain, and jade. Though the collections are wonderful—showcasing the rich history of the Wu region—it is the architecture that truly preserves the "touch of ancient China" while feeling utterly joyful, modern and fresh. During my visiting in mid-September it offered a quiet moment to appreciate this tranquillity, as I appreciate this piece of a true testament to the timeless elegance of Chinese aesthetics.

So hard to get tickets for this museum. You have to pre-book via their Mini Prog, opens 7 days prior at 8am. Tickets are snapped up in a few minutes! I tried for 19 Aug initially but didn't get it, made the mistake of not setting up my profile in advance so by the time I created my profile, the tickets are all gone. Learnt my mistake and managed to secure a ticket for 24 Aug morning. The entrance is conveniently located at Metro Line 6, Exit 2. Here, you can only enter during your ticket time slot, 11am to 12nn in my case. Got an audio guide for ¥30 (one of the last few as they have limited pieces). The main exhibit is just a small section on the 1st floor while there are other special exhibits within the building at additional cost. This is the most scenic museum I've been to in China. Truly 园林中的博物馆, very Suzhou. The exhibits however are nothing outstanding, perhaps just the 苏绣 section, a heritage, skillful, unique embroidery style founded here. The building itself is the highlight here. This is the work of the famous architect, 贝聿铭, the same man behind the glass pyramid of the Louvre Museum in Paris. The hexagonal windows throughout create such beautiful photos effortlessly. The outdoor garden area is where most gather and probably spent more time than in the museum itself. The route ends at the 太平天国忠王府. From the exit, one can walk to the Humble Administrator Garden and/or Ping Jiang Road. Overall, a good 2.5 hrs spent here. Not much in terms of artefacts but still worth a visit to see the beauty of this museum.
Daphne Y — Google review
The museum itself is an masterpiece, which is designed by I.M. Pei, the world famous designer that also designed the crystal pyramid for the Louvre. Over 40,000 artifacts with over 250 national first-class relics should keep you busy for at least 2 hours. Purchase your ticket beforehand

Humble Administrator's Garden

The Humble Administrator's Garden is a must-see attraction in Suzhou, China. It is the largest and most grandiose of all Suzhou Gardens, and it holds the prestigious title of being one of the Four Greatest Gardens in China. This classical garden dates back to the Ming emperor Zhengde and is divided into three distinct areas. The garden was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997 for its representation of over two thousand years of Chinese landscape garden design.
Gorgeous any time of year. Great history. Just amazing gardens with generations of thought and effort. The bosai collection is out of this world and just wow... As an American visiting... get your ticket in advance, hiring an English interpreter is awesome. I hope you get Li. She is amazing. This is a World Heritage site!

As one of the four great gardens of Suzhou, the Humble Administrator’s Garden truly showcases exquisite landscape design. Its pavilions, towers, water features, and architectural details all reflect the beauty of classical elegance. Visiting here offers an experience of the refined Jiangnan-style architecture, garden layout, and landscaping. The overall atmosphere is poetic and picturesque, making one feel completely immersed in its aesthetic charm. Even on hot and crowded days, taking the time to appreciate the surroundings allows one to sense the classical spirit and millennia of cultural heritage. It is well worth exploring. Standing before ancient calligraphy, paintings, or thousand-year-old structures, one can almost imagine scholars of the past composing poetry and couplets in this very environment, reflecting on the future. The trip is both moving and inspiring, and I highly recommend it. This is my travel review of the Humble Administrator’s Garden.

The Humble Administrator's Garden (Zhuozheng Yuan) 拙政園 is a renowned classical Chinese garden located in Suzhou, China. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and considered one of the finest and largest gardens in all of southern China. The garden is a masterpiece of Ming Dynasty landscape design, known for its elegant water features, winding paths, and traditional architecture that creates a serene and picturesque environment. It is primarily designed around water, with a maze of connected pools, islands, pavilions, and bridges. The design is meant to create the effect of a wild, natural landscape within a city setting. The garden was originally built in 1509 by Wang Xianchen 王顯辰 a frustrated imperial censor who retired to a simple life of gardening after his official career. He named it the "Humble Administrator's Garden" to reflect his quiet, simple aspirations. Over the centuries, the garden changed hands many times and was divided into separate private estates. It served various purposes, including a government office and a prince's residence during the Taiping Rebellion. The current appearance of the garden largely reflects the late Qing Dynasty style, and the three main sections were finally reunited by the Chinese government in 1949 and subsequently opened to the public.

One of the 4 amazing gardens in Suzhou. This is a famous unesco heritage site with amazing gardens and architecture. A guide would be recommended for you to understand the history of the buildings. Avoid the weekends as it can get really crowded and do expect traffic jams in your car ride there. Highly recommend !

An absolute masterpiece and the pinnacle of Chinese classical garden design. It's vast, serene, and incredibly beautiful, with a harmonious layout of ponds, pavilions, bridges, and rockeries. It can get crowded, but its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site is well-deserved. Go early to enjoy its tranquility.

I find park and historical places more fascinating after dark so if you are into that then book a night tour from the west gate which starts around 7:30. It was slow paced and a fun experience (by fun i mean if you enjoy silence, sounds of insects after dark and warm lights) There is a short opera styled musical with a light show (8/10) The guide was friendly and spoke enough english to enquire deeply about the history and significance of the space.
AJ — Google review
This is right in the centre of the city. You can take line 6 to the stop named after the garden and the Suzhou Museum. Be careful — as you emerge from the metro, the first long queue is likely for the museum. You need to walk further down the alley and find the Ticket Office, where, to my surprise, they took cards, even foreign ones. This garden isn’t very big, and so it easily gets overcrowded during the weekends and especially during the summer holidays (even on weekdays). The garden itself loses novelty if you have seen Liu Yuan (Lingering Garden), which feels less crowded and hence more relaxed. My four star review could have been 5 had the environment been more relaxed like a Suzhou garden, and had I not seen Lingering Garden. But this is still a very fine specimen.

Tongli Ancient Town, located in the southern outskirts of Suzhou, is a well-known water town with a history of over 1000 years. The town is characterized by its intricate network of rivers that divide it into several parts, creating a picturesque setting with old residences and hidden gardens. This ancient town has also served as the backdrop for shows adapted from Wuxia novels.
An old water town with many residents. It is very quiet and peaceful after 8pm and before 9am. Nice to watch the locals’ way of life by the river. Ticket price is RMB100 if you were to enter between 8am and 5.15pm. The ticket allows for visits to several attractions in Tongli. Take a train via Line 4 to Tongli MRT and exit via 9 and 10 to catch a free tram to this water town. Tram operates from 7am to 7.15pm. Takes approximately 15min to reach the Tongli Ancient Town North Entrance. We stayed in the water town for 4 nights. Though it takes approx 1hr train ride to town, we love the slow pace here. The water town preserves its original building structure and hence the accommodations may be old. There are many accommodations within walking distance of the water town which have better facilities.

Extraordinary location near Suzhou. The town is very alive, with many stalls, markets and shops ensuring a vibrant environment. The many bridges connecting the sides of the town are stunning works of fine stone masonry. One could only imagine how it would have been in the 19th century. Visited in Apr. This is the perfect relaxing water town to explore leisurely - beautiful, serene, retains a sense of authenticity, lively yet not overwhelmingly crowded (unlike Suzhou’s famous waterside streets which are so crowded it’s impossible to enjoy). Tongli Town is compact and extremely conducive for exploration on foot. Allocated a full day for day trip from Shanghai. Explore and soak in the atmosphere leisurely (rather than squeezing in whirlwind stop) especially for families with small kids. Took an excellent boat ride, explored a old buildings/gardens, the famous bridges and take a simple but relaxing, pleasant lunch stop at one of the canal side restaurants to sample local cuisine and chat with friendly locals. Lots of quaint coffee shops around town. Ticket buying at tourist centre was quick and hassle free (free for seniors and kids below 1.4m) - tickets for accessing buildings / gardens. 25 min boat ride recommended - clean, well maintained boats, relaxing and nice way to see the town.

All stars for nature. Staying in Shanghai for a long time could be oppressing. This Park could be an ideal escape from the city. You can easily use public bus with that cost only 22 RMB (have yet to count your transportation fee to the main bus station). If you are students, remember to bring student cards (even if you are from non-Chinese universities, they just check the graduation dates). The entrance tickets for students are 30 RMB (prettt affordanle for efforts to plan more trees!) Bike renting process annoys us a lot. My friend and I are both foreigner. We only have alipay as a payment method. Eventhough the banner does show accepting alipay. Staff said they only accept Wechat pay. We could not do that as we don’t have Chinese accounts. If we want to use Alipay, we have to deposit 200 RMB for each bike, which does not apply to people who pay with Wechat Pay. Anyways, we decided to walk cause we kinda felt weird. Exploring the park by walking turns out pretty good; we will stopped by places a bit more easily. Walking and exploring half of the park takes us around 1 hour and a half. If you bike, you can go around the park in 1 hour (that what the staff said, but probably you will not see the nitty gritty). Enjoy your trip! Cheers!

Located within the Shanghai International Automobile City, the Shanghai Audi International Circuit is a hub for automotive enthusiasts. The circuit offers an immersive experience with access to areas like paddocks and grandstands. While it provides excellent views of on-track action, some visitors suggest improvements such as track tours and better amenities like food options and beverage outlets in the grandstand area.
Magnificent race track. I joined a tour around the circuit and the guy was a chilled guy. We visited the media room, race control room, podium stage, and winners waiting room. It’s a really fun experience as a f1 fan to see things up close. There’s also a big karting circuit next to it, recommended as well.

An exceptional experience at the Shanghai Audi International Circuit. The track is world-class, perfectly built for Formula 1, offering both thrilling racing action and an outstanding spectator experience. The organization was seamless, with clear signage, efficient entry, and easy access to various viewing areas.

tour was very nice and went to paddock, grandstands, briefing room etc. One thing missing is a track tour, like Daytona they should have trams that take you for a roundabout, but since they're resurfacing the track now maybe they will in the future. They also need to have an open merch store, and consistent schedules for tours and gokart track, which was supposed to open but never did. The AC was not on and inside it was sweltering and completely deserted with no resteraunt or anything open which is a missed opportunity. Overall it's a great and cheap way to see f1 track, but they need to capitalize on customer needs more.

Shanghai International Circuit for F1 race event. Consider taking the metro - “Shanghai Circuit” subway station on Line 11 as traffic to the circuit is narrow (1 way in and out) and very congested during these large events.

Very well built F1 track with huge grand stand and lots of facilities. If budget is a factor the best seats are at the K stand hairpin curve. I'd give it 5 stars if those were not occupied by the F1 race in Singapore.

Excellent views of most of the circuit, that itself provides plenty of on track action. My only gripe would be some escalators to at least get up a few levels of the very high grandstand, and some better food options, and maybe some beverage outlets in the grandstand itself (on a higher level)

Shanghai Zhujiajiao Ancient Town Tourist Zone, often called the Venice of Shanghai, is a historic water town with a legacy spanning over 1700 years. This charming destination is renowned for its ancient temples, traditional houses, and picturesque bridges that showcase its cultural significance.
Took DiDi from the city, about 50mins. The entry walk to the area are lined with various tea, food & souvenir shops. Once you are in the old town, it was crowded especially along the alleyways where shops offered food, handicrafts, clothes, pearls, hand & beauty creams & one modern medicine shop. The canal was busy with the occasional boat rides rowing past, the bridges were crowded with people taking photos, especially those who dressed up in the period dresses from the numerous shops offering this service. It was quaint & delightful to observe. A good place to spend half a day or so + lunch in the number of interesting inns there.

A great place to visit when in Shanghai - tourist friendly. We booked a guide to take us before heading to the airport and they took care of everything- tickets, transport and most importantly explaining to us the many special places. Rows of stalls offering snacks (many local cuisines) and souvenirs (including many antique shops and cat/dog cafes) on each side of the river banks. The boat ride (Additional fee) was great to orientate on arrival.

It was a very old town but lots to see if you enjoy cultural stuff. With the clear blue skies, you will be able to capture awesome pictures with the boat and water. A cafe is there too for you to cool down but it is quite expensive. Overall it is quite an experience 😀😀😀👍👍👍

If you do not have time to visit Suzhou or Hangzhou, here is a great place to see the ancient town built along the intricate waterways. Shops are mostly the same as what you could find in a typical Chinese ancient town selling more or less the same items, so I would instead spend more time reading up the history behind the town. This is accessible from Shanghai city using Metro line 17. However, the journey could take roughly 1.5hr. So do plan your time and take into consideration the long travel time Visited on 2 January 2025, Thursday. No tickets required, free entry.

The Zhujiajiao Ancient Water Town is an important tourist destination, about one hour drive from Shanghai city. The Town was established nearly 1700 years ago, famous for stone bridges, waterways and Ming and Qing dynasty architecture. It's also called The "Venice of Shanghai". Its very enjoyable to spend time there, walking along the waterways, taking a boat cruise or relaxing with a cup of tea. Other places to visit is the landmark Kenzi garden established in 1912. It has a main hall, a garden, and an artificial hill. Fangsheng Bridge is another attraction, best among the 36 ancient stone bridges, It was built in 1812 and supposed to be the largest stone arch bridge in Shanghai. The Zhujiajiao Ancient Water Town is so beautiful that one can easily spend an entire day there, but a minimum of three hours is needed to see it.

Review for Zhujiajiao ancient Water Town. To reach there you can take subway from Shanghai Hongqiao subway station. "Wonderful place! Zhujiajiao Water Town is incredibly well-preserved, with its ancient charm still intact. You'll love strolling along the canals, crossing the many bridges, and taking in the historic architecture. The old houses on the canal banks have been beautifully transformed into restaurants, shops, and local produce stores. A highlight is the ancient post office turned museum, where you can send letters to yourself or loved ones from special post boxes - they'll be mailed to you in a specific month of a future year of your choice! What a unique experience! Perfect for a relaxing day trip or a romantic getaway. Highly recommended!" 5/5 stars

Took the subway here from Huangpu District and it took about a little over an hour. Definitely worth the stop out here and to see Chinese cultural building rather than the modern setup they have now.

Nanxiang Old Street Tourist Center

Historic Sites
Nanxiang Old Street Tourist Center has been restored to its traditional charm, featuring classic white-walled houses with black tiles, arched bridges over the river, and serene classical gardens. Located just 30 minutes away from the city center by subway, it offers a quieter alternative to other tourist spots. Visitors can leisurely explore the area and even rent folk costumes at affordable prices. The 20-minute walk from the station adds to the overall experience of this atmospheric destination.
A short walk from the NanXiang Metro station on Line 11, this is probably the easiest water town to get to from Shanghai without the aid of a long distance bus or tour group. Beautiful old buildings, cobbled roads and alleyways, and lots of lovely little bridges and canals. Tonnes of food and souvenir options. Many options to try XiaoLong Bao as NanXiang claims to be the origin of the delicious dumpling. It even has a Buddhist Temple and its own garden - there are entrance fees, but you can get a 40元 combination ticket that includes both, as well as a XiaoLongBao museum, and a museum on the town. Worth checking out GuYi Garden, too, whilst you're in the area.

(Translated by Google) A tourist destination in the suburbs, about 30 minutes away from where we were staying by taking two subway lines. There are fewer people than Yuiyuan, so you can enjoy it more slowly. There are places where you can wear folk costumes for a cheap price. Be careful not to get ripped off, but it is recommended for girls! Before arriving here, I walked for about 20 minutes from the station, and it was fun.

The area boasts unique and expansive architectural complexes alongside original garden landscapes, making it a standout example of ancient southern Yangtze River architecture and courtyard design. The guard will register your admission ticket to face regconition system and allows you to enter and exit the town within the dated day with the scan of your face. Tickets can also be purchase at the entrance of the east and west gate. Rolling luggage might be challenging as some places are cobblestone. Nice quiet little town to stay and explore for a day. Took the opportunity to do a photoshoot in hanfu here as it is less busy. The place is very clean and there are many small shops selling souvenir, hanfu rental and eateries. One of the bar street is also very lively at night. Take a scenic boat or visit the musuem to enjoy the experience of ancient town.

On our way to Hangzhou we made a stopover and tour around Xitang Ancient Town. It was a long walk but very educational. There were a lot of local tourists and some who were having photoshoots in their traditional costumes. There were also food stalls along the way and a scenic boat ride for a fee. So many areas to take photos and sit. The place brings you back to old China. So beautiful! Toilets can be found nearby. The alleys have cobblestone path and a bit hard to walk on. We ended our walk at the South gate where we had lunch.

This place was wonderful! I spent 3 days staying in a very nice small hotel next to the water(about 30 usd a night). During the day you can walk around checking out the sights or stopping at a local coffee shop to relax. There's also restaurants and shopping you can do. At night you can also enjoy the night views or go enjoy the night life. They have several bars and night clubs if you are into that. Oh and they filmed Mission Impossible 3 here.. Cool!!

My favorite city I visited in China. It is small and simple but full of history and fun. The food is amazing and you will not find another city that is as beautiful as this one. The rivers at sunset make the city glow.
