Mountains
Taishan Mountain, also known as Mount Tai, is a significant cultural and natural site listed as a World Heritage site. Despite not being the tallest mountain at 1545 meters, it holds great religious and historical importance. It's been revered by ancient emperors and is considered the foremost of China's Five Sacred Mountains. The Peach Blossom Ravine at its western foot is named after the abundance of peach trees found there.
A good place to visit for some scenic views. You also get a good workout with many steps to get to the top, even if you take the cable car.
Cher K — Google review
Great walk up 7000 steps. It got busy at the top, with lots of people huffing and puffing up the steep bit. Well worth a visit. Weekends and good days make it get very busy. So be grateful at the top when it gets steep and you too are huffing and puffing, whilst trying to impress your partner with your stamina, strength and fitness🤣
Mark T — Google review
During my recent trip to China, I had the opportunity to visit Taishan Mountain, one of the tallest and most significant mountains in the country. The journey to the top was both challenging and exhilarating. I started my ascent in the early hours of the morning, determined to reach the summit in time to witness the sunrise. The climb was steep and demanding, but the anticipation of the view kept me going. As I reached the peak, I was greeted with the most breathtaking view I have ever seen. The sun slowly rose over the horizon, casting a golden glow over the landscape. The sky was painted with vibrant hues of orange and pink, and the entire scene felt almost surreal. It was a moment of pure tranquility and awe. In addition to the stunning sunrise, Taishan Mountain is rich in cultural and historical significance. The pathways are lined with ancient inscriptions and temples, each telling a story of the mountain's past. I took my time exploring these sites, immersing myself in the history and spirituality of the place. Overall, my visit to Taishan Mountain was an unforgettable experience. The combination of natural beauty, physical challenge, and cultural richness made it a truly unique adventure. I highly recommend anyone traveling to China to include Taishan Mountain in their itinerary. Witnessing the sunrise from the summit is a memory that will stay with you forever.
Alan K — Google review
A beautiful and challenging Taishan to hike either with your foot or a hybrid mode of using available cable cars/bus.

This breathtaking shot captures a panoramic view from Mount Tai (Tai Shan), one of China's Five Great Mountains and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The scene is steeped in cultural, spiritual, and natural beauty.
Manish D — Google review
Mount Taishan is one of the five Sacred mountains in China. It is situated in Tai’an city, Shandong Province. It is worth to mention that this mount is in the UNESCO world heritage sites. This is one of the most climbed mountains. The legend says that all Kings of China have had climbed this mountain and prayed for the success to the God. The best time for climbing us Summer and spring. If you want to have a nice scenery, then avoid to climb the mount in winter and Autumn. During my first climbing I could see the mountain and the city all in fog which doesn’t happen often as the locals say and only the luckiest people can be witnesses of this beauty. Another best time to visit the mountain is any night in summer because in the morning you will find an amazing sunset view if the weather is nice and not rainy. You can climb by foot which will take about 4 hours if you take a bus to the starting point. You might also take a cable car to the top which is not operating at night. In case of climbing at night be ready to experience cold on the top. Prepare tent where you can sleep and have jackets with you.
Hasmik M — Google review
one of my great experience for visiting China, and challenged myself from the flights of stairs to see the sun rising. When you are up there, remember to rent the coat and return back at the peak of the mountain, don't bring it down like me... it was HELL.
Jeffery J — Google review
Great experience! The weather was very cold but it was great because walking up all those steps got me sweating! There were some temples at the top and lots of nice snacks to buy on the way up!

The Kong Family Mansion, located in Qufu, Shandong Province, is a historic landmark that belonged to the direct descendants of Confucius. It covers an expansive area of 240 acres and includes over 463 halls and rooms. The mansion is part of the 'San Kong' along with the Temple of Confucius and the Cemetery of Confucius. Visitors can explore this museum, garden, and airy courtyard while learning about the life and legacy of Confucius' lineage.
Confucius, a renowned philosopher, politician and educator in ancient China whose system of belief involving philosophy, politics and ethics (subsequently known as Confucianism) has exerted profound influence on Chinese culture, was revered as the Sacred Model Teacher for Ten Thousand Generations by Chinese emperors. Located in his birthplace, Qufu City of Shandong Province, China, the Temple of Confucius was built to commemorate and offer sacrifices to Confucius in 478 BC. Having been destroyed and reconstructed over the centuries, it now covers 14 hectares, with 104 buildings dating from the Jin to Qing dynasties including the Dacheng Hall, Kuiwen Pavilion and Xing Altar, and over 1,250 ancient trees. The Temple houses more than 1,000 stelae made at different times, and precious objects such as Han stone reliefs, carved pictures depicting the life of Confucius, and the stone dragon carvings of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Temple is the prototype and model for all the Confucius temples widely distributed in countries in East Asia and Southeast Asia, particularly in terms of layout and style.

Iron Pagoda Park (West Gate) in Kaifeng is a lesser-known gem that encompasses the Yanqing Taoist Temple and the historic 11th-century Iron Pagoda, which sits adjacent to a beautiful lake. This park, often overshadowed by newer attractions like Yuchen and Qingming Shang He Tu, offers visitors a glimpse into ancient Buddhism with its pagoda built over 1000 years ago.
The Park is very well maintained. There is a Story behind the Iron Pagoda.

One of the most under rated place in Kaifeng. I was astonished that this park is rated below the recent man made Yuchen 御城and qingming shang he tu 清明上河图 which were built within 20 years ago。The pagoda was built about 1000 years ago for the purpose of housing Budda bone ( 舍利). The pagoda has 8 faces (probably means see all the directions or 八卦?)and 13 levels(probably also meaning something) and each tile of it contains drawings of Budda. The park has fewer visitors and fare is 40 CNY. Along with the lake and some sculpture (no sign and I don't have time to dig out what they are about), this place is definitely top 3 in Kaifeng.

Although the park may not boast a plethora of attractions, it is crucial to explore its grounds due to its historical significance as the location of the Palace of the Six Dynasties. The assortment of features, including the lake and architectural structures, may not captivate visitors as initially anticipated. However, taking a leisurely walk around Longting Park remains essential in order to appreciate its cultural heritage and immerse oneself in its rich history.

the shows give kids direct impression of people daily life in Song dynasty. the park at night is pretty impressive, ang it is cool to visit too, I mean the temperature itself in a summer day. :-)
QY S — Google review
It's a park that built based on classical Chinese painting "Qingming Shang He Tu" or in english "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" which captures the daily life of people and the landscape of the northern song dynasty capital city, bianjiang (now:kaifeng). The buildings, bridges, city walls and docks in the park are made exactly the same as in the painting. You can find that the workers and staff there are also wear clothes and accessories like they're one of the song dynasty's people. If you want to dress like them, the park also have some stall that rent out dresses and clothes for man, woman and kids. They also offer photo service if you wanted to take some picture wearing that clothes. The park also provides many interesting shows that can be watched for free, such as a story about one of the famous hero in Chinese history, Yue Fei. If you want to watch the show, please pay attention to the show schedule and don't be late, because they will close the gate when the performance starts. Overall, this park is very interesting and worth to go. But unfortunately, when I went there, it was a foggy day..so I couldn't enjoy the park to the fullest.

Henan Museum, situated in Zhengzhou, is a modern history and art museum showcasing ancient Chinese artifacts. It is one of the oldest and largest museums in China, with an impressive collection housed in a grandiose pyramid-shaped building covering 100,000 square meters. The museum features bronze and jade artifacts, pottery, and an exhibition on ancient Chinese astronomy. Its design is inspired by the mysterious Astronomical Observatory.
Absolutely great., and free. 3 floors of exhibitions with artifacts up to 10,KYO. A huge selection of artifacts and exhibits over 3 floors. It will take an afternoon. Easy to access from the metro and a short walk or a “tuk-tuk” from the station.

Epic museum. Reserve a ticket via WeChat (select from 9-12pm or 12-4pm entry time slots; max 8,000 visitors per session). Both english and Chinese audio guides are available for ¥30 but are operated by different companies, so be careful which one you purchase. The Chinese guide is quite comprehensive (you can punch in the ###) but the english guide is lame (~40 1-2min explanations that are heavily accented).

(Translated by Google) ●"The Hometown of the Yellow Emperor" is located on Xuanyuan Road in the urban area of [Xinzheng]. It is a holy place at home and abroad for "descendants of the Yan and Huang Dynasties to seek their roots and worship their ancestors". It is also a place to worship the ancestor of Chinese humanities - the "Yellow Emperor". The "Hometown of the Yellow Emperor" was built in the Han and Wei dynasties and has been around for about two thousand years. Its predecessor was the "Xuanyuan Hometown Temple". In the fourth year of Longqing's reign in the Ming Dynasty (1570), Xuanyuan Bridge was built in front of the temple. In the fifty-fourth year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1715), Xu Chaozhu, then the governor of Xinzheng County, erected the "Xuanyuan Hometown Monument" in front of the temple. It was renovated in the 29th year of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1764). The "Stele of the Reconstruction of the Main Hall" records: "In ancient times, Zhengyi is said to be the old ruins of the Xuanyuan clan. There is the Xuanyuan Qiu ruins in the north, which was the original site at that time." In the early 1990s, the then government leaders of Xinzheng City organized reconstruction. In March 1997, the expansion of the "Hometown of the Yellow Emperor" started. Residential households in front of the temple were demolished, and the front area of the Huangdi's Hometown and the Huangdi's Hometown Square were built, covering an area of more than 5,000 square meters, and greening was carried out. From 2002 to 2003, the Xinzheng Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Xinzheng Municipal People's Government expanded the Xuanyuan Hometown Ancestral Area and renamed it the "Yellow Emperor's Hometown Scenic Area". After the expansion, the area of the scenic area reached 430,000 square meters. In order to meet the needs of holding the ancestor worship ceremony in the "Hometown of the Yellow Emperor", the scenic area was expanded again in 2007. From south to north, the expanded scenic area consists of "Chinese Surname Square", "Xuanyuan's Hometown Ancestral Area", "Xuanyuan's Hometown Ancestral Area", It consists of "Ancestor Worship Area", "Xuanyuan Hill" and "Yellow Emperor Memorial Hall Area". In August 2023, archaeologists discovered a "Chime Bell Sacrifice Pit" at the "Hometown of the Yellow Emperor" site. ●The "Hometown of the Yellow Emperor" scenic spot is divided into three major areas from north to south: "ancestor worship area, hometown temple area, and square area". Visitors can walk around after entering the scenic area. ●"Ancestor Worship Area" Visitors can visit the "Emperor Memorial Hall" and pay homage to the emperor's statue. ●There is an ancient jujube tree with a history of thousands of years in the "Hometown Temple Area". In the side halls on both sides, Leizu, the concubine of the Yuan Dynasty, and Aimu, the fourth concubine of the Yellow Emperor, are enshrined. picture. ●In the "Chinese Surname Square" in "Square Area", you can check the origin of your surname and find the origin and tradition of your family. There were many people there. Before entering the temple, I watched the performance of the young monks. It was quite interesting. The temple was nice and quiet enough for people to pray and learn about the history and architecture of the temple.

You will not see the images of monks practicing martial arts as you expect. Now Shaolin Temple is just a temple. This area is quite large so if you do not have time, you can buy a tram ticket to go quickly. At some times of the day, outside the gate, there are martial arts students performing. Need to buy ticket

Visiting the Shaolin Temple in Zhengzhou was an incredible experience. The place has such a powerful energy — you can actually feel the history and tradition in the air. The temple itself is stunning, surrounded by beautiful mountains and greenery that make the whole area feel calm and refreshing. The climate was just perfect when I visited, adding to the peaceful vibe. Every corner of the temple has something to admire — from the ancient statues and carvings to the monks practicing kung fu with absolute discipline and grace. Watching them train was mesmerizing; it’s not just a performance, it’s a way of life deeply rooted in their culture. It’s truly amazing how the temple combines spirituality, martial arts, and history all in one place. I’d definitely recommend visiting if you ever get the chance — it’s a place that leaves you inspired and full of awe.

Too much crowed, too much commercial..we were dreaming to see real quite place where the guys are living and training, to feel the history and old golden traditions, but found only a lot of shops, street food restaurants and show - all just for tourists, that’s why we were really disappointed ☹️ price for the tickets are so expensive for that. Honestly it’s a tourist trap, don’t recommend unfortunately

By far the highlight of our China tour. It's amazing to hear the history of the Shaolin temple, see a demonstration, but most of all, travel up the cable car up the mountain to see the Temple of Heaven and walk along a towering cliff face.

Well worth a visit. Steeped in history. Worth hiring an English speaking guide. Approximately 300RMB. To get here hire a Didi for around 150RMB, and slightly more getting back. Buy tickets when you get there 80 RMB. Includes kung fu show.

My wife had the opportunity to visit the fabled temple, located at the foot of Mount Song birthed about 495 a.d. and home of Chan ("zen") buddhism and ethical martial arts ("wu de"), courtesy of Bodhidharma. She tells me it's quite commercial now given publicity and Unesco cultural status in recent times.

A must-visit if you're in Zhengzhou! The long travel time is worth it—this legendary temple, famous from Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies, was even more impressive in real life. As a fan since childhood, seeing it firsthand was unforgettable. We booked a private tour, which included a Kung Fu lesson and an incredible live performance. The martial arts showcase was the highlight—so powerful and precise! Highly recommend this experience for anyone interested in Chinese culture or Kung Fu. Truly a dream come true for martial arts lovers! **5/5 stars**—don’t miss it!

(Translated by Google) Gulongzhong is located among the mountains about 13 kilometers west of Xiangyang City. This is where Zhuge Liang lived in seclusion for ten years before leaving the mountains, and it is also where Liu Bei visited the thatched cottage three times. When you step into Longzhong, the first thing that catches your eye is the large stone archway built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. On one side of the archway is engraved a famous line from Du Fu's "The Prime Minister of Shu": Three visits frequently make plans for the world, and two dynasties open up the hearts of veterans. On the back are engraved the five characters "Three Generations Next". In memory of Zhuge Liang, he was praised by later generations as the most outstanding figure after Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties. In the scenic area, there are also "Ten Scenic Spots in Longzhong" built by later generations because of their admiration for Zhuge Liang. If you go to Gurungzhong, it is recommended to watch "Thatched Cottage Theater". This is the first live-action drama performed in the form of thatched cottage in China, including three scenes including "Longzhong Duo", "The Song of the Ugly Wife" and "Red Cliff Ode".
