Huge lake and you'd love the cruise here as there are very differing sights to see and click. The commentary on the cruise boat is also very informative. We took a sunset cruise and it was just gorgeous! Also, being summer time the weather was very pleasant.

Beautiful view. Definitely try boat ride for seenic pics. Great nature feeling. Few different Boat ride depend on distance, we opted for longest one , so it took almost 90 min to complete. Few was amazing but felt little bit bored due to duration. Boat ride was amazing. Literally felt like lost in green nature. Parking options were many.

The best find! Amazing playground with cubby house and toy cars for kids. Good coffee for tired parents. Cool castle. Even saw some baby cows.
Molly M — Google review
I call here regularly with my wife and grandchildren, a perfect drop of point when I'm on my way to thornton. The food is true English home cooking. The menu gives a good choice to pick from food freshly cooked, really friendly staff. It's a family run farm/shop/cafe with a castle to have a little look around +a child's play area. With indoor and outdoor seating.
Alan H — Google review
Lovely place to pop in for an ice cream. Small and friendly with indoor and outdoor seating, we sat indoors as it was pouring down yesterday
Marie S — Google review
Lovely place to stop and pickup ice-cream on route to the lakes or further north. Lovely staff, good ice cream, excellent cakes and tray bakes. :) Stopped on the way up and the way back. Will remember for the next trip!
Jonathan W — Google review
We visited the castle, but the main purpose of the visit was of course the ice cream. All sorts of flavours on offer and were delicious! We even used the vending machines that serve fresh milk/ milkshakes. Well worth a visit!
Baza B — Google review
Really good for children, playhouse and castle ruins. Milk shakes available to take home from machines outside are really good. We went back twice just for a bottle of flavoured milk.
Barrie R — Google review
“Delicious homemade ice cream with lots of flavours — beautiful countryside setting, worth a stop!”
Tippapai M — Google review
Lovely little family run ice cream Parlour. A wide range of flavours and a good choice of food and hot drinks. A little play area with a good range of play equipment (swings, slides, play house, see-saw, even a wooden castle!). Plenty of benches to sit at. You can even see the baby cows over the stable style doors in the summer months in the nearby the barns. Close to Brough castle too.

Thornton Hall Country Park

Mentioned on

Sights & Landmarks
Campground
Nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Thornton Hall Country Park is a traditional working farm that provides an immersive experience for visitors of all ages. From bottle feeding lambs and calves to enjoying pony trekking and tractor rides, there are plenty of hands-on activities for animal lovers. The park also features a play area for children and a diner serving quality teas, coffees, and hot/cold foods.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Perfect Day Out for the Whole Family! We had the most amazing time here and can’t recommend it enough for families with young children! From the moment we arrived, the staff were friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about the animals and the visitor experience. The farm is beautifully kept, and there’s so much to do. Our kids (ages 3 and 6) absolutely loved feeding the goats and meeting the baby lambs. The animal petting area was a huge hit, with opportunities to hold rabbits and guinea pigs—such a gentle, hands-on experience that the children are still talking about. There’s also a fantastic adventure playground, tractor rides, and a soft play area indoors, which came in handy when the weather turned briefly. Everything was clean, safe, and thoughtfully set up for families. We were really impressed with the café too—great coffee, homemade cakes, and a decent kids’ menu with healthy options. Plenty of picnic areas as well if you prefer to bring your own food. What really stood out was how interactive and educational everything was. The talks and feeding demonstrations were engaging without being too long, and the staff made sure the kids could ask questions and get involved. We spent nearly the whole day there and could easily have stayed longer. A perfect mix of fun, learning, and fresh air. We’ll definitely be coming back—and bringing friends next time!

Festival of Fun event! Great farm for children with a range of animals, all very well looked after. Different events going off around the farm from feeding and petting rabbits, Guinea pigs. Pony riding, pirate shows and a princess show too with a meet and greet after. Play gym was clean and staff were very helpful. Kids loved the caterpillar ride, go karts aged 6-12. Great playground too. Over all great day out 👍
Emma W — Google review
Great place for little ones and adults alike! Not a massive farm but plenty to do and see. We love that included in the price are some experiences such as the petting zone and the soft play. The extra costs such as safari are not too expensive and worth paying for for the experience. We have visited twice now and both times have seen a 'show' in the marquee as part of entrance fee. The staff are LOVELY. Very knowledgeable about the area, farm and of course the animals. They are happy to stand and talk to you about the farm. So friendly and welcoming. They have a little outdoor play area and bounce pillows and tractors to ride also.
Deborah W — Google review
Visited for the Bonfire and Fireworks on the Friday night (7th). Had such a good time. Lots of other entertainment on as well - bar, street food, rides for the kids etc. Great night all round. Amazing display.
Mike — Google review
We camped in the field with friends who had a camper van we were in tents. Great location and the attached farm is amazing ideal for kids after all ages..we were there during the lawnmower racing championships which was awesome to watch. That's in addition the the farm animals and petting zoo. Facilities were. Clean and well maintained and amazing views across Yorkshire dales. High recoment this as a camp site and fun weekend or week long camp trip for families
Matt C — Google review
A Fantastic Farm Adventure! We stumbled upon this gem the night before our visit, searching for a local outdoor activity to enjoy with my three-and-a-half-year-old daughter. What a find! We snagged a brilliant weekday deal for £8.95 for both of us, pre-school holidays, making it excellent value from the off. We added a bag of animal feed for £2, which was well worth it for the interactive fun. My daughter absolutely adored the 'caterpillar ride' – a charming journey snaking around a field, pulled by a quad bike. The farm itself is easy to find with ample parking. The animals are incredibly well-kept and so friendly, happily interacting with the children who were petting and feeding them. Every member of staff we encountered was genuinely friendly and welcoming. Beyond the animals, there's a lovely outdoor park and an indoor play area complete with a café, offering plenty to keep little ones entertained. The views across the countryside are simply stunning too. We also opted for the 'Farm Safari', led by a wonderfully entertaining gentleman. He took the time to stop at each animal enclosure, allowing us to get a closer look and plenty of photos – a highly recommended extra! All in all, it was a truly fantastic and great value day out. We'll definitely be returning!

We visited 27/10/25 for the Spooks event during half term. We visited Trick or Treat Street, The pumpkin patch, The Rustic Garden for the School of Evil show and food, the bouncing pillows, the animal barns and the Soft Play. Trick or Treat Street was great, you move as a small group and knock on the doors for a Trick or a Treat. The characters were great and included all children. The School of Evil show was great. The kids age 6 and 7 really enjoyed this and the dance moves. They even got the adults up dancing too and gave time at the end for pictures, I noticed they made an effort with each child which was lovely. We got coffees and food from the food truck. The coffees at £3 each were disappointing and the bar coffee machine wasn't working. Our meals were nice. The children's portion sizes were decent sized, good enough for an adult. The pumpkin patch is good and one of the less muddy ones, with some lovely photo opportunities. Pumpkins not included and these are extra. There was a pumpkin carving area in one of the barns so you could carve on the day if you wished. There are a couple of animal areas, but I feel that these are lacking compared to other farms. We love animals so it would be nice to have some more areas. The soft play is large and the kids really enjoyed it. We were glad we ate at the rustic garden as the queue was so long and the QR option to order from your table wasn't working. But they do offer a larger selection of food here. All staff at the farm were friendly and pleasant. As it was half term it was busy just queuing in at opening, yet staff remained friendly to everyone despite the constant queue. We have visited Thornton Hall several times before and have enjoyed ourself each time.
Rachael — Google review
We won tickets for the Monster Trucks and we had the best time! Lots of things to do to keep us going all day and yummy food stalls. We can't wait to find another themed day to enjoy.

Despite being a bit challenging to locate, the organization's dedication and triumph over obstacles are commendable. The railway holds significant historical value within its compact space, leaving visitors with a profound appreciation. Visitors can also enjoy interacting with Barras, the station cat.
We had a fantastic couple of hours here. There was even an extremely informative guided tour around the whole site which detailed the huge undertaking that has been achieved plus what is in progress for the future. Definitely well worth a visit!
Baza B — Google review
Fantastic place ran by volunteers who are enthusiastic and willing to talk and demonstrate. A little tricky to find and an organisation that is constantly fighting against the odds and winning!!! Great place to spend a few hours on a Sunday. A lot of vitally important railway history crammed into a relatively small space yet you come away with a better feeling than many larger organisations. And you have to say hello to the station cat Barras
Nick H — Google review
This is a great place, a fantastic achievement by all those involved. They also do so much work for the community. They have had to ' rebuild numerous structures which are very authentic, although a big part of the original stations remains, it required much work to get it to it's present condition. Although the line is very short, they have created a truly great representation of how this historic station was. Friendly staff/volunteers, beautiful coaches, locos. Lovely nearby walk, taking in 2 amazing viaducts. Highly recommended.
Steve — Google review
The effort put in to make this event a success was clear for all to see. All so well organised with charming volunteers doing everything to make me welcome. Plenty to occupy visitors from 09.30 for 6 hours. All the plaudits are well deserved. Thank you 👍🙏

Boundary Outlet Colne is a fantastic shopping destination nestled at Junction 14 of the M65, offering an impressive array of high-street fashion and homeware brands. Shoppers can also enjoy a Marks & Spencer outlet along with delightful dining options including a café and restaurant. The atmosphere is bright and inviting, making it easy to spend hours exploring the extensive selection of discounted items.
I've been here twice, both times I was surprised that it wasn't busier. Lots of stuff inside, clothes, bags, makeup, kitchen stuff, home stuff etc. The kids enjoyed the ice cream truck outside. Lots of car parking. Bagged a few bargains! Beautiful sunny day yesterday, nice and cool in the store. Got everything we wanted and a bunch of stuff I didn't expect to (including a can opener and one of those things you pop in a pan with an egg so you know how cooked it is). Everyone I interacted with was friendly. Happy days.

Boundary Outlet offers a great shopping experience with a wide selection of quality brands at discounted prices. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the store is well-organized, making it easy to find great deals.
Anwaar A — Google review
Very good and very impressed. Modern and open plan outlet with loads of parking and excellent range of clothes and accessories for the home. Couldn't give 5 stars because it mainly caters for the older customers and they surprisingly lack EV charge points as well.
Daniel B — Google review
Amazing staff and customer service. Everyone is polite and very helpful. If you can not find what you are looking for or forget to pick something up, staff members are always willing to help you out. A large variety of brands and items for sale ranging in prices and depending on what time of the year, great bargins to be found. Definitely worth a trip out, several places both inside and surrounding the outlet to eat as well.
Edward S — Google review
Maximum choices under single roof. Good facility for the nearby people. We went from Oldham to look for our choices. Purchased clothings, shoes and crockery. Rates were comparatively on the higher side. A friendly atmosphere and a wide choices to buy all brands. Well done Boundary Outlet Colne. A wonderful experience.
Zahid M — Google review
hadn't been for years before this but there was so much variety including a beauty outlet, m&s outlet, cosmetics store, perfume shop outlet, café and many offers available. There was also an ice cream truck outside with benches and the prices were very reasonable. There is also a Banny's Fish & Chips shop down the road with dine in options at the front or a takeaway down the side. Plenty of space for parking at both sites.
Sepideh — Google review
I have good experience here. You can fine so many good deals. Its huge and everything under one roof which is great.
Sania A — Google review
Plenty of parking, very clean and well laid out. The homeware/kitchen sections were great. We made some purchases, after looking online afterwards for items we couldn’t find some of the purchases weren’t as discounted as it seemed That said, having the option to view in person was a definite benefit over online shopping. The shoes and clothes sections weren’t as good for us. We’re mid 40’s but found the majority of items were aiming at older styles.

Museum not open on Monday or Tuesday, so just walked around the grounds which were lovely. Stopped at the cafe for tea and cake which was lovely. Lots of places to enjoy a picnic. Need to pay for parking.
Alison W — Google review
Lovely grounds to walk around. Clean toilets at the hall and a lovely brew at the rotunda by the car park. Only down side.. Reflection pond was empty at the time we visited
Sheena C — Google review
A beautiful historic house and art gallery, set in a really nice park with a wonderful garden. I particularly liked the chapel, long gallery and the Victorian kitchen.
Nicholas T — Google review
Expectations exceeded. It's a forest, magnificent gardens, a stately home, a museum and an art gallery all in one. Even the coffee was good. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable.
GAT — Google review
What a lovely place! Beautiful, well tended grounds, and a stunning, newly renovated stately home to look around. Sleepy ducks round a pond and fountain, wonderful flowers and ancient trees. A very nice cafe. Despite being a weekday when we visited, it was pretty busy, and we were lucky to find a parking space. Parking was cheap though, as was entry to the hall and museum.. cheap for me, and free for my student companions. My ticket is also valid for the whole year, should I wish to return, which I certainly will. Definitely worth a visit if history, nature and beautiful houses are your thing.
Anita L — Google review
Excellent place. Ticket price is £5.50 for an annual pass, so can visit as many times as you want in a year. Staff welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and informative. Lots of 'behind the walls' secret panels that were highlighted, along with information and historical stories. Great cafe in the grounds with a good assortment of food and drinks at a reasonable price. Nice outside grass and garden areas too. Great afternoon spent here

The Station Inn Ribblehead Viaduct

Mentioned on

Inn
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled near the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct, The Station Inn offers a charming retreat for travelers seeking both comfort and convenience. This traditional stone pub features simple yet cozy rooms equipped with free WiFi and breakfast options, making it an ideal stop for those exploring the stunning Yorkshire Dales. For budget-conscious adventurers, there are also bunk rooms available. After a day of hiking or sightseeing, guests can unwind in the welcoming atmosphere of this historic inn while enjoying hearty meals and local brews.
A mere few minutes walk from the viaduct and a hop from the train station or the roadside parking available, this homely pub has good real ale, fantastic food and lovely staff - if you got snowed in, you wouldn't rush to call for rescue. Pork pie, chips, mush peas and gravy was as easy on the wallet as it was delicious. Shame I was too full to eat all the chips (sorry). The perfect place to finish (or start) a good long walk and my go to pub when hiking in the area.
Ray K — Google review
We had two meals here and really enjoyed them both; the staff were friendly and the atmosphere inside the pub is warm and characterful. The steak and ale pie and the sticky toffee pudding were both excellent. Unfortunately the panna cotta was a bit too gelatinous for my taste, and the topping on the crumble didn’t seem very well cooked. However, aside from these two desserts, we really liked this pub - it’s a great option after a long day of walking !
Phoebe B — Google review
I feel this pub is inevitably playing on it's location. I love traditional pubs and this is surely one, good selection of beers, didn't eat but it looked basic and like everything a tad overpriced because of the location, £21 for fish and chips!!! BUT why oh why can't you put a bit of effort into cleaning , it really was frayed around the edges and dirty, toilet door covered in graffiti pretty basic stuff. Pleasent staff.
Guy S — Google review
Had a great lunch here after a beautiful walk on a big loop round the viaduct and hills behind. Generous portions. Very friendly. Walk in only unless more than 6. Real fire. Cosy.
Lisa — Google review
Very lovely pub & inn situated in a great location in the Dales. We actually got stranded here in a storm and the staff were very accommodating (though keep in mind rooms aren't always available! popular place!). Excellent place to spend an evening or night after a day's ramble or just for lunch after peeking around the viaduct.
Canis L — Google review
My favourite pub ever. Have been visiting for over 11 years and never disappoints. Food and service always on point. Beer great. Best beer garden I’ve ever visited. Staff always friendly and attentive. Cheers and will always be back!
Kirsty M — Google review
Stayed here one night last week in my Campervan and it was a great little spot for a stop over. Staff were friendly and very helpful and the food was good. Only criticism, if staying in the carpark would be the cattle grid can be a little noisy as vehicles rumble over it in the night.
Mark2 S — Google review
Visited in early December and had the most perfect meal!! We walked from our nearby b&b in the pitch black to be greeted by a super cosy interior, one of the best steak and ale pies I’ve had, and my favourite cider on tap! The service was quick and the staff were lovely, the locals were also really friendly and there was plenty of fun conversation to be had. I look back on my visit very fondly. It’s also right next to the train station so the perfect location for anyone out on hikes.

Singing Ringing Tree

Mentioned on

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Singing Ringing Tree is a unique art installation located in Lancashire's Calder Valley. This futuristic structure, resembling the head of a giant bird or a tribal headdress, is made of steel pipes and produces sounds as the wind passes through it. Positioned on Crown Point, it offers stunning views across the valley and is part of the Forest of Bowland's reforestation program.
A short but beautiful stroll up to see the sculpture and plenty windy there to enjoy the pipes’ tunes. Nearby (shared parking lot) there is also a “life giving life” field where people have the ashes of their loved ones buried and a tree is planted with a mini little plaque- it’s also a beautiful spot to sit and enjoy the views. Everything is free-parking, singing tree, etc. It’s a short stop (under an hour tops) but definitely worth the stop!

Really enjoyed this visit, short walk to the actual tree and did sound pretty good when it was chiming. Accessible for most although parts of path are rocky and short hills may make it difficult to access for some. It was great views for miles and miles, really worth a visit.
Osman K — Google review
This the second time I've been here and although I would class myself as a conservative artist lover, hating Turner prize and that type, I love this. You need it to be windy, the more wind the better to be honest. However, where its situated i guess its always windy enough. The car park is free and the walk down to the sculpture is about 5 minutes, maybe 1/4 of a mile. I dont think you would easily get down to it in a normal push wheelchair or if you were disabled but with care and help you can. There is a bench and seating when you get there to rest as well. The sculpture provides a strange, haunting sound, almost a moaning or wailing. I think if there were 10 people listening then they might all have a different thought though. The views are spectacular as well. I hope the videos give a reasonable reproduction of the sound. It will be VERY spooky if you go there on a dark stormy night, may be All Hallows eve?
Bobby D — Google review
Sure! Here’s a revised version of your review, incorporating the tree sound: Car park (free) is about a 5 to 10 minute walk from the Singing Tree. It was a breezy day with a steady wind – we could actually hear the tree making sounds, almost like a haunting background from a horror movie, which was quite atmospheric! The views were absolutely stunning – well worth the visit for those alone. A unique place that’s perfect for a quick stop on a beautiful day.
Imran L — Google review
Well worth a look, especially on a windy day (you'll really hear it singing, as you approach!) That said, keep tight hold of your bag/ phone! The wind can get FIERCE up on Crown Point! Truly unique experience 😁
Rachel S — Google review
I enjoyed the little walk along the straight length of the path approaching the Tree, it kinda enhances the peaceful experience. (It's a shame that the humming sound which I heared whilst there, wasn't audible on the video I shot, just the distorted wooshing sound from the gusty wind on the microphone. 🙄😁
Anthony B — Google review
Great attraction to visit if you’re passing that way. I first saw this when it was shiny and new in 2007 and it’s still going strong when we visited on the way past this weekend although it’s a bit weathered now. Best visited on a moderately windy day because too little or too much wind and it doesn’t sing as well. When we went this weekend it was extremely high winds so the audio on the video is crazy, don’t listen with headphones :’) It’s almost impossible to get the sound of the tree on videos so it’s worth experiencing for yourself and the YouTube videos don’t do it justice. There is a 4 seat picnic bench which needs reloading and one of the wooden stools has come off. Accessible via a 5 minute walk from the carpark, along a gravel path. We saw a mum coming back towards us with a baby in a stroller managing the path fine but the last bit on the way back up is a slight incline so bare that in mind unit visiting with a heavier wheelchair. The path also experiences strong cross winds.
Little R — Google review
A really cool piece of artwork set in a peaceful spot – the only sound you hear is the sculpture itself. 👀 First Impressions It looks huge in photos, so I was expecting something massive, but it’s only about 3-5 metres tall. Bit of a surprise! ✨ Experience Still, it’s clever, unique and worth seeing if you’re nearby. The sound it makes is oddly calming and adds to the quiet setting. ⭐ Overall Smaller than expected but still a cool stop – peaceful, unusual and definitely a photo-worthy landmark.

Ingleborough Cave, located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, offers guided tours through a large cave system with impressive lighting and a grotto. Discovered in 1837 by determined explorers, the cave boasts 450 million years of geology and history. Visitors can explore a spacious fossil gallery stretching for about 500 meters and marvel at dramatic stalactites and fossils.
Brilliant cave to explore for all the family. 3ven dog friendly which is a massive bonus. Nice gentle and easy path to the cave.

Great place and was nice and cool inside in this hot weather 😊. Staff were great and friendly. There was a man at the end of the walk in the cave that gave us lots of information on the history. We all really enjoyed it.
Stacey A — Google review
A lovely cave above Ingleborough Nature Trail. I visited with my two nieces and we had a great time, even if they did think it was a bit 'spooky' and 'creepy'. It's a self guided tour, with information on laminated sheets to read as you wander round. Helmets are provided. The staff are lovely, and took the time to talk to us, and encouraged my nieces to ask questions about the cave. You can access it via public footpaths, or pay to wander up Ingleborough Nature Trail. We opted for the Trail as my nieces also looked for the Mimpish Squimbies on the trail on the way to the cave. It's worth paying the money to see the cave. It looks amazing, is full of stalagmites and stalactites, and has a crystal clear pool too. My nieces particularly liked all the water flowing alongside the path, and the fact that the little 'waterfalls' splashed on them as they walked past. Additionally there's a decent path throughout the cave, and they sell food/ a few souvenirs at the entrance of the cave too.
Donna W — Google review
Beautiful cave with wonderful features and stalactites and small cascades inside, the water in this cave originated all the way from nearby Gaping Gill. That said, this cave can get awfully crowded at times, and allowing a lot of dogs into this cave (even on leads) is, in my opinion, a step too far which ruined an otherwise amazing experience.
Gleb B — Google review
Really good just wanted it to last longer inside the cave, it's a short walk. The trails are great stunning areas and beautiful views
Sharon B — Google review
Lovely walk to the cave and then into it. Staff were very friendly and informative. Dog friendly.
Emma G — Google review
To be honest, I didn't understand why I should pay about 16 pounds per person for "a cave" but I couldn't be more wrong! This cave is breathtaking, and the size is surprising! The self-guided tour is interesting and helpful to spot the amazing things in the cave. Bring some warmer clothes if you come during the summer (the cave is colder than outside). You will find a small snacks and hot drinks shop with some souvenirs at the entrance to the cave.
Guy T — Google review
Loved it. We went on Thursday and there wasn't many people there. Very cool in the caves with a clear running stream alongside the path. The path itself is concrete and suitable for buggies and wheelchairs. Dogs are also allowed but must be well behaved and kept on a lead. A few bits worth noting, it's about a 2km walk from the entrance of the Ingleborough Estate to the caves. This takes you through the beautiful nature trail and the path is uphill going to the caves but is well maintained. At the caves you're given hard hats. Some points inside the caves the ceiling is low and you will need to stoop for periods of about 50 yards. Highly recommend though.

White Scar Cave

Caverns & Caves
White Scar Cave, located in the western Yorkshire Dales, is a popular destination for those seeking to explore the region's stunning underground landscape. The cave system, formed from limestone erosion over thousands of years, offers visitors the opportunity to experience subterranean passages, caverns, and waterfalls. Guided tours are available year-round, allowing guests to marvel at the impressive 100-meter-long cave with its towering 30-meter-high chambers.
This experience was enriching. Parking is excellent; if you time it right, there's no need to wait for the tour. Make sure you dress warmly and have shoes that don't slip. The staff on tour was friendly and really knowledgeable. Well done. I do recommend the visit as the cave experience is unique in every way. However, the staff in the shop were a bit sour, with no smiles or kindness. I felt like I was being watched all the time. One young man at the till had excellent customer skills and knowledge. Thank you, overall great experience.
Judit D — Google review
It's the only show cave I've visited and actually felt like I was in a natural cave. The fact that most of the cave is pretty much j as nature created it, with scaffolding platforms to walk on (rather than a dug out and concrete filled floor) gives it this feeling. Plus the end of the cave is still being explored. Really worthwhile visiting. The tour guides are great at what they do, and you're given plenty of opportunities at the end to make your own way out of the cave at your own pace to take photos.
Cameron F — Google review
White Scar Cave is a fascinating underground wonder! The guided tour takes you through impressive limestone formations, waterfalls, and unique chambers filled with natural beauty. The staff are knowledgeable and make the experience engaging. A bit of walking and ducking in places, but absolutely worth it for the breathtaking sights inside. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the area
Shilpa G — Google review
Great cave experience, Mike our guide was fantastic. Informative and interesting to listen to. Great for adults and kids. You do need to have quite good mobility, there is a few sections that require you to walk stooped over and to be manoeuvring around rocks, lots of stairs too.
Sue D — Google review
Second visit to this outstanding set of showcaves and still every bit as magical as the first. Even the view from the car park is awe inspiring in a way that few other attractions can match, and things only get better from there as you make your way underground. The guides are very knowledgeable and help you to make sense of what you are seeing as you go. Some superb flowstone formations, and I found the ice age mud deposits in the battlefield cavern utterly fascinating. Take advantage of the toilet facilities before you enter the caves. It's a long walk around with a lot of running water. Definitely worth half a day of your time spent on a visit here.

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour . The guide was extremely knowledgeable and very personable. If your tall be prepared for quite long passages where your crouched right down . The tour takes around 80 minutes to complete. Our group comprised ages from 10yrs old to about 70 ish and we all enjoyed it. Well worth a visit Esp on a rainy day

We were on our way back home from Lake District and decided to check it out as a stop. Great experience. Our guide was Christopher. Not only did he show the key areas but thrown in some fascinating facts on how the cave formed and how old it is. The discovery of the cave was also an inspiring story. See for yourselves. Truly recommend. Shame we missed the kitchen opening times at the cafe. Stunning views inside and outside. :)
Barbara J — Google review
Found this place quite by accident, while eating lunch and managed to get on the next tour. Booked my ticket online but tickets can also be bought at the cave. There were so many people that they spilt us into two groups with a guide each. Our guide, Adele was knowledgeable, fun and delivered a great tour. Truly an amazing experience.

Acorn Bank is a National Trust property famous for its extensive landscaped gardens and charming watermill. Although visitors are unable to explore the house, there are delightful fruit and walled herb gardens available to wander around. The courtyard cafe offers open-air dining with delicious sandwiches and pasties at reasonable prices. It is an excellent location for families looking to spend time outdoors, with a nature trail, fairy houses, old mine trails, and bird-watching hide.
A lovely place to visit if you're in the area. There isn't much of the house open, which is sad. There is lovely gardens and a great walk along to the watermill and gypsum mine. The cafe was closed, but they had self serve tea/coffee for a donation.

Wonderful place to spend a few hours, lots of nice walks through the forest area and around the well kept grounds, plus a good tearoom and of course the nice book room where most of us come out with more than we went in with. Definitely a place we would revisit.👍

This is a fabulously understated place to visit, an active mill in some beautiful scenery, some excellent walks and interesting history, lots of places to enjoy and reflect on the surrounding beautiful landscape
Adrian D — Google review
An absolutely beautiful place, the gardens are truly spectacular and so calming. The greeting staff were lovely, great with our kids and the walk to the mill was very achievable. The 3-star rating relates to the cafe. In the middle of the six weeks holidays they had no kids meals Mon-Thurs (despite them being advertised) and they had nothing gluten free except a ore-packaged rice cake. I cannot comprehend why an organisation as hit as NT who charge pretty hefty membership fees cannot standardise a basic menu that caters to basic dietary requirements - and to not accommodate kids also seems a bit ridiculous. Otherwise the cafe was very clean, and the toilets were accessible.

Pleasant gardens and apple orchard. Not much inside the interior. Can walk down to the river and plenty of forest walks
Tom ( — Google review
Up hill and down hill walking. Lots of bluebells and wild garlic out at the moment, water levels low due to lack of rain. Lovely walk around
Liz L — Google review
Not too much to see in the house, but the gardens were good, an extensive range of rhubarb & apple trees. Nice walk around the outside of the grounds to the restored water mill, again not working for lack of water.
David B — Google review
We had a lovely visit here. The gardens are very pretty with some fruit orchards too. There isn't really anything of the house to see and one of the rooms is a second hand book shop. This national trust really is for dry weather as its all outdoors, some lovely walks though. There is a small indoor tea room to have a food and drinks. I was very disappointed with the coffee van today that was serving cakes, lunches and drinks. We ordered some drinks and cakes and also a lunch tray for our child, said lunch tray took 30 minutes to arrive which is a very long time for a ham sandwich to be made (see photo) and costly for what there was at £6.50. I expect high prices for a NT cafè but not for what appears to be a privately owned cafè van. They need better staffing and running of this when it comes to meals. I think the company was Lakeland Coffee. The staff were all very polite at the national trust. They had some games out for the kids and they could borrow binoculars for the walk. They also had fairy houses dotted about for the children to find.

The Ingleton Waterfalls Trail is a stunning 4.5-mile journey that showcases the breathtaking beauty of Yorkshire's countryside. Nestled on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, this popular trail attracts both locals and visitors year-round with its enchanting scenery. As you traverse this circular route, you'll encounter five magnificent waterfalls and eight water features in total, all while following the picturesque paths along the River Twiss and River Doe.
What a great day out, really nice walk, quite difficult for older people, and a definite no for a little of disabled. But give it a go if you have good support and family assistance. They have a few places for a brew or snack, and even an ice cream van about half way. I think we took about 3 + hours, and walked about 4 miles. Do it you won't regret.
David H — Google review
Never heard of this place before so we thought we'd give it a go. Being in early October and a Monday it was quiet when we arrived, plenty of parking. Not the best of days weatherwise but that didn't put us off. It's definitely a trail that needs moderate fitness as it's fairly up and down with many steps, plus good boots are needed (especially in the wet as the rocks are slippery). But if you take time there shouldn't be any issues. Some amazing waterfalls with good viewing points. There are cafes at the start and half way round but the one by the carpark was closed. (Monday). There was an ice-cream van further up the trail. Overall a pleasant hike with great views. Is it worth £11 per adult? I'd say yes as someone has to maintain it.
Neil R — Google review
This walk is amazing. We went as a family group with 4 adults and 2 children aged 3 and 6 yrs. We thought the prices were a bit steep at first but the car park is very good and the toilets are clean and modern. The walk is exciting and awesome. There are waterfalls all the way up and on the way back down too. The path is stoney and slippy at times with lots of steps so adequate footwear and clothing is necessary. Absolutely brilliant.
Wendy G — Google review
Was a bit skeptical when i had to pay 11 each to walk around the trial. It was worth it. Many beautiful waterfalls and takes about 2 hours at least to complete. It took us 5. We like to stroll and really admire what were looking at. We even got to walk behind one of the falls which was breathtaking.
Nathan H — Google review
Way better than I imagined..walk took 3 hours to complete, and we saw many small to medium waterfalls. Entrance at £11 IS good value, don't let it put you off. Parking is plentiful, with excellent toilets just before yo pay to enter.
CHRISSO F — Google review
This walk is beautiful and follows a river full of waterfalls around a circular route stating in Ingleton. It is ideal for families with children who can walk 4 miles. The walk has been on private land for many years and costs adults £11 (in 2025) including parking. The walk has a nice cafe stop halfway round. I took a detour up Ingleborough adding another 6 miles, but it was worth the views. Ingleton is a lovely village with decent pubs, cafes and outdoor sports store. A great day out.
Gary P — Google review
Been wanting to visit here for a while. It didn't disappoint. Yes there is a charge, but it is also kept very well. Paths are good and there are a few fun scramble parts( I visited in the dry, might be different in the wet) Waterfalls galore and plenty of swimming spots. Great area at Thornton force for a picnic. All in all a full fun day out.
Duncan L — Google review
Beautiful views lovely and peaceful. I enjoyed the Waterfalls. But I won't lie, this trail is not easy in the slightest. I found it extremely difficult at times despite taking regular rest breaks. A lot of people turned back halfway through and we wondered why. The last half of the trail is mainly a hike through scenery and nothing to do with the waterfalls at all. The map does not match the trail which I found very unhelpful, there are numbers at certain points of the trail as you go along. I would suggest finishing at 8 or if you want to see the last waterfall 10. There is an ice cream van but it's another 10/15 mins after the last waterfall and is over a bridge with a steep decline and incline. Overall I'm chuffed we managed to do it in just over 3hrs but I wouldn't do it again. There is a toilet block and plenty of parking but the price seems a bit steep at £22 for 2 adults.

Visitors can enjoy facilities such as a tea wagon and WCs at Devil's Bridge, making it an ideal place for a picnic or to take a leisurely walk.
Make sure to choose this place as a perfect rest stop when entering or leaving the Lake District—it’s in a truly beautiful spot. A wide river with an expansive bed is crowned by two aesthetically pleasing bridges, surrounded by a large, green area full of trees. It’s the ideal fresh and relaxing environment. Whether you want to sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature or have a picnic, this place has you covered.

Sad to see someone jumping off the bridge, but it was a beautiful place to go and visit on a cold, sunny weekend morning. The food from the van was delicious. A few bikers were there too.
Caroline — Google review
A fantastic meeting place for bikers and families alike. I went on my Harley for the first time, parked with all the other bikes on the hottest day of the year so far. The bridge and surrounding river was packed with families and kids swimming in the Lune. It is well worth a visit. There are 2 vans - one for food and the other for ice cream, great for weather like today. The only downside is the amount of speed cameras on the surrounding roads. Totally overkill in places and designed once again to spoil the fun and ensure everyone complies with the ridiculous government in the UK.
James S — Google review
Nice ride out to The Devils bridge on our Motorbikes today, stopped at The Devils Bridge and enjoyed a Bacon Butty and cup of tea, both very nice, enjoyed and very welcoming at food van. Very picturesque, Public toilets too
Wing N — Google review
Great spot for a rest, mess about in the river, especially for the young ones. Bikers meet for a break regularly at this spot, and there is parking with toilets on the other side of the bridge, which is PEDESTRIAN ONLY. The parking by the way is FREE, which makes a pleasant change.Thebridge itself is a very tall one and quite a sight from below. There is a nice riverside walk alongside the island, we saw a couple of herons and watched one catch a small fish. The footpaths leads you to the "Radical Steps" 80 plus steps which take you up to the church and the town, but first at the top, turn right to take in the view at "Ruskin's View". A sign at the bottom of the steps says it was originally 46 steps, but I counted over 80, so they've altered them a bit. Well worth a visit.

Lowther Castle & Gardens is a historic site in the Lake District, once home to the Earls of Lonsdale. The castle ruins, built in 1806, are set amidst 130 acres of landscaped gardens that were abandoned and left to nature after the death of the fifth Earl. However, a restoration project started in 2011 has brought back the former glory of the gardens and preserved the haunting beauty of the castle ruins.
What an amazing place to visit. The grounds are superb and the castle reconstruction is going great guns. The rose garden, in particular, is beautifully set out. It has a fantastic children's adventure playground in amongst the trees. There is also a great cafe with decent food too. Make sure you check out the fantastic view from the escarpment and see the bullfrogs in the pond.

First time visit, beautiful gardens, bit past their best due to the time of year but will definitely return spring/summer next year. Cafe was a very nice and good was good. £15 per adult but we got in free with Historic Houses membership. They are currently doing some restoration work on the ruined castle but there is a demo on the history of it.

Wow what a spectacular place to visit! The castle itself is so impressive. Not far from the M6 too so we stopped on route from Scotland to the Midlands. The cafe was pleasant, lots of choice to eat. We had burger and chips which was tasty. High chairs available. Toilets near to the cafe. And at the back of the grounds is the best outdoor playarea I've ever seen suitable for all ages. It's huge, has zip wires for older kids and toddlers, sand pits, slides, swings. It's a great day out if not a better stop than the services!

What a beautiful castle and grounds. Plenty of open space to wander and have a picnic. Great grounds with a lovely cafe indoors, with plenty of outdoor seating inside the square of the castle grounds. The cafe had a super selection of fresh meals and great bakery products as well. Ice cream parlour was delicious. Parking very reasonable at £2, can be paid at the restaurant.
Naz N — Google review
An interesting former stately home, with extensive gardens. A tale of what happens when these spend thrift lords throw it all away. They are still working on parts of the estate and gardens, but is well worth a visit. The cafe is decent and is a popular spot for families.
Tom ( — Google review
A fantastic day out for adults, children & dogs. Extensive gardens & woodlands to explore, a large adventure playground with separate areas for older children and toddlers- with the only toddler seat zip slide I've ever seen!- cafes and of course what is left of the castle. The gardens are so loved and well maintained, there were absolutely loads of mushroom varieties if that floats your boat! A small museum section which tells you the story of the house and how it came to what it is today, as well as plenty of information boards everywhere you go. Dogs are allowed every where except inside the play areas, but there are plenty of benches/seats looking over the play area for someone to sit and wait with the dog. The café next to the play areas are only open weekends and school holidays- which we didn't realise until after we got there so please bare that in mind!
Isis B — Google review
An absolutely unique place to visit, just off the M6. The gardens are beautiful and the owners are expanding their size and variety. The back story of the house and it's colourful owners is alone worth a visit. Great for children too and completely dog friendly.

Bowlands wild boar park is one of the best campsites I have been too. The walks here are just fantastic and quiet which we all need sometimes. It is a great get away from the busy world. The staff are friendly. The food at the cafe is delicious. I would recommend the ice creme and the lamb and mint pasty.

Mixed...please read! Make sure the cafe is open or take a picnic. The alternative provided today ( whilst very tasty) wasn't at all aimed at children and very expensive. You have to pay for everything extra once inside ( don't pay the £1 for the motorized carts...lasts about 60secs...even our 4yr olds were underwhelmed). Plus the 2 tractor rides are also extra money. The animals are lovely to feed and very gentle even with our boisterous 2.5 year old. They all enjoyed the chick stroking! Overall, been visiting for years and it's not improving. Shame as it's such a lovely idea and a great site.

A fun and fantastic day out. There is a good amount of animals to see and feed. The kids play area is big and spacious. There are some beautiful walking trails. We took a 4,7 and 9 year old and they all loved it. The food in the cafe was ok and prices how you would expect from a place like this however the car park is right there so I would be easy to bring a picnic and collect it from the car at unch. There are plenty of benches dotted around.

Great family day out, with lost of different animals to see, they all looked well care for and happy, loved the little goat walk ❤️ Didn’t get her name but she was in the Chick handling room, she really nice to talk too, said she had been there for 4 years and loves working with the animals and you could tell she was great!! In my opinion you could have more handling sessions, not just chicks :) overall I would definitely recommend!!
Alisha D — Google review
We came as a family earlier this week and were quite disappointed. The whole place felt very tired and a bit run down. The tractor ride wasn't worth the money. Had much better days out for less money.
Michelle S — Google review
When our eldest was younger we use to bring him to the wild boar park and have since returned with our youngest. The outdoor play area is great, lots of different, swings, slides, climbing frames and zip wires for different ages. There's a selection of animals to view such as Meerkats, ducks, hens, goats, Llamas and Emu's and further round the Wild Boars of course! There's an indoor play barn with shaded seating, play kitchen and sand, a climbing rope, slide and basketball set with some play tractors. It's always great of course to purchase a tractor barrel ride, it's a highlight for the young ones and as a family we all go on the tractor ride to view the water buffalo and horses, although you can go on the adventure walk to see these. There are plenty of outdoor seating and you can bring a picnic. They did have a street food vendor onsite and the food smells were delicious but we brought our own food. We did sample the ice-cream from the shop, a bit pricey at £3 for one small scoop but it was delicious, I tried the rum and raisin. It's not a huge site but it's enough for upto 10 year olds to walk round and have fun!
Stacey R — Google review
Extremely disappointing compared to previous visits. Visited end of June, building up to the busy school holiday peak times. Cafe closed (which we didnt find out until we got in), barn had no animals and whole place very rundown. Price was reduced to 5pounds each but we still didn't get value for money. The cute piglets was the highlight. Won't be rushing g back

Not what we have come to expect. Usually a nice day out but today just seemed run down and felt generally flat. The food options in the cafe are very limited too so bring a packed lunch.

Farm
Smithills Open Farm, located in the picturesque Smithills Country Park, has been a beloved destination for families in Bolton and beyond. The farm offers a wide range of animal encounters, from horses and sheep to reptiles and alpacas. Visitors can also enjoy the petting corner where they can interact with rabbits, guinea pigs, and chicks. This hands-on experience not only provides animal therapy but also offers educational opportunities for both children and adults.
We are tourists visiting the area, and we had a wonderful time at Smithills Open Farm! The atmosphere was fantastic, and everyone was so kind and friendly. A special mention goes to the gentleman driving the tractor ride – he was incredibly cheerful and friendly, and made the experience even more fun. There are many different animals to see, and lots of fun activities for both kids and adults. We took part in several of the attractions and enjoyed every minute of it. The only thing we didn’t like was seeing the owls kept in very small cages, and the calves separated from their mothers, which made us a bit sad. We also noticed a sense of sadness in the eyes of the cows being milked, which was quite touching. Additionally, we believe that very young children should not be allowed to hold the animals on their own. It would be better if they could simply touch them gently under the supervision of a farm staff member, as small children often don’t yet have the awareness to handle animals carefully, and may unintentionally cause them harm. We highly recommend this place to families and tourists – it’s a great day out!

We visited Smithy Open Farm last month as a family, and it was a truly wonderful experience. The farm is well-kept and full of charm, and the animals are all very gentle and friendly — perfect for children to interact with. From calves and lambs to many other farm animals, you can really enjoy close-up encounters and even watch the process of milk production, which was fascinating to see. There are plenty of activities for children and families, and feeding the animals is made easy with affordable feed available on-site. It’s both fun and educational, giving kids the chance to experience farm life in an authentic and enjoyable way. One of the highlights for us was trying the farm’s own freshly made yogurt — it was absolutely delicious and highly recommended! Overall, it’s a fantastic place for a family day out, especially with young children. Warm atmosphere, well-cared-for animals, and plenty to see and do — we’ll definitely be coming back again.

We visited Smithills Open Farm during the school holidays with the kids, and it was such a fantastic day out! The highlight was seeing the full process of how cows are milked and how the milk is stored — really fascinating and educational. The children loved getting hands-on, feeding the cows and other farm animals, and learning more about farm life. There are so many activities for kids, and it’s a great balance of fun and education. The staff were friendly and made the experience engaging for both children and adults. Overall, a brilliant day out for families — highly recommend!

Really enjoyable family day out. Lots available for small children, from donkey and tractor rides to feeding the cows and other farm animals. Also being able to interact and hold baby lambs, baby goats, Emu's, Rabbits and chicks in pets corner. The specific animal based talks were really informative and the kids had chance to get a photo which was great. There are also a selection of parks for the children to enjoy and multiple shops were you can grab a coffee and locally produced ice cream which was delicious.

Love this place, but if something for all of us. Getting so close to the cows isn't something kids from the city get to do that often and it's great. Staff seem to love their jobs and It does make it extra enjoyable. Some of the other local farms are good for an hour or two but we regularly spend 4-5 hours here
Gareth — Google review
Every single member of staff we encountered made this day super special! They were so warm and welcoming, all made an effort to educate us on the animals and help us to get as much from the experience as possible. We loved it! P.s we’re still dreaming about the ice cream!

We brought our 9 month old granddaughter for her first visit to a farm and we all absolutely loved it. Even for a baby there is so much to do. She was obsessed with the mini horses and the donkeys ❤️ She was fighting sleep at the end so we couldn't go to meet the animals but we certainly will be doing on our next visit. The tractor ride to the donkeys made her day 🥰 Thank you all for making our first Grandparent day the best ever ❤️

It was an amazing trip. Kids enjoying the encounter with different animals though the emus are a bit terrifying. A pity was that the cafe only provided tea/ coffee and cake. No hot food provided.

The Trough of Bowland, located within the Forest of Bowland, is a picturesque valley and high pass that sits nearly 1,000 feet above sea level. This scenic area is known for its narrow and winding roads offering spectacular views over the Lancashire countryside. It's a popular destination for cyclists, hikers, and families seeking to explore miles of beautiful countryside, quaint villages, flowing brooks, and abundant wildlife.
An outstanding, tucked away area of natural beauty and stunning scenery. Almost always bypassed by travelers heading for the Lake District, this well kept secret is well worth a visit. Approached from the north side off A65, the climb to the summit provides breathtaking views to all points of the compass. Well worth a visit! 😲👍

Like many more than likely, I usually bypass the Forest of Bowland en route to/from the likes of the Lakes & The Dales. This time coming home from The Lakes I got off the M6 at Lancaster driving through the Trough of Bowland to rejoin the M6 at Longridge & what a nice little drive it was & not busy. Think I may be tempted to do it again in the opposite direction whilst heading northbound to get the great views over Morecambe Bay that were behind me on this occasion!

Samlesbury Hall is a 14th-century manor house that has been transformed into a guesthouse, offering cosy huts and a cottage for accommodation. It serves as an ideal historic Lancashire wedding venue with its Tudor charm. The hall boasts a rich history dating back to 1325 and provides guided tours on Sundays, where costumed guides enthusiastically share tales of witches and ghosts.
Wonderful visit to Maria’s cafe at Samlesbury Hall today. The cafe has recently been renovated and they have done a marvellous job. From the window we could see the beautiful courtyard with its fountain. The lovely lady who served us our delicious scones with jam and cream was friendly and efficient. Thoroughly recommended. 😀👍

We recently hosted our 1V Cohesion Afternoon Tea at Salmsbury Hall, and it was a fantastic experience for the whole team. The hall’s elegant setting created the perfect backdrop for a relaxed and enjoyable afternoon. The spread of sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and delicate pastries was both delicious and beautifully presented, while the tea selection offered something for everyone. The event was a wonderful way to bring the team together, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the thoughtful touches throughout made everyone feel valued. It was the perfect mix of indulgence and connection, leaving guests feeling relaxed, appreciated, and more connected as a team. Highly recommended for anyone looking to combine great food with a meaningful team experience!

A beautifully preserved medieval hall steeped in history. It originally dates from 1325, but what we see today is a mainly Tudor manor house with a lot of Victorian restoration. The black and white architecture is stunning! I came here with a coach party for a guided tour of the downstairs rooms and the chapel. Our guide was both knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He told us not only about the hall's long and often violent history, but also gave us a vivid insight into how the family and their servants lived in medieval and Tudor times. His account of what went into the cooking pot was a real eye opener! The rooms are sparsely furnished, but there are some wonderful timbered ceilings, stone fireplaces and heraldic decorations. I liked the ghostly musicians up in the minstrel gallery! The tour lasted about an hour, and afterwards we were offered complimentary tea and biscuits. We were free to explore the upstairs rooms on our own, and there was plenty to see: lots of interesting info to read, interactive displays, and a priest hide where a brutal murder took place. Don't miss the witch's den and the ghost room, which felt really creepy! Did not get to visit the café, but there was time for a quick walk in the well-kept garden with its lovely views of the hall and a children's play area with its own miniature Tudor house. Entry to the hall is free but it's well worth making a donation to help support its upkeep.

We can’t thank the Samlesbury Hall wedding team enough for making our day absolutely perfect from start to finish. A huge shoutout to Mel and Anthony, who went above and beyond throughout the whole day. Mel’s experience really shone through — she was calm, organised, and reassuring, which helped us feel completely at ease and allowed us to just enjoy every moment. Anthony was brilliant too — so helpful, friendly, and attentive all through the evening. We’d also like to give a big thank you to the rest of the team who supported them — everyone worked together seamlessly to make sure everything ran smoothly. As for the accommodation, the Gatehouse was lovely and spacious, with great rooms and bathrooms. A few small touches could make it even more practical for wedding stays — perhaps a proper ironing board, a corkscrew, and the microwave in a more convenient spot. For the shepherd’s huts, everything was charming and comfortable, though a lighted pathway or providing torch light would be really helpful — especially for pregnant guests or older relatives finding their way back after the evening celebrations. Otherwise, all our guests gave really positive feedback about their stay. Overall, Samlesbury Hall is a truly special place — the venue, the team, and the atmosphere made our wedding day everything we’d hoped for and more.

We went for lunch in the really warming in the garden room. The food was absolutely delicious and so nicely presented. We headed over to Maria’s Cafe for cake and sweets, which was also super pleasant and warming. Staff all super friendly and approachable. We then had a walk round Samlesbury Hall itself, the history and how it’s been kept is beautiful. We loved all the history and the exterior of the building, perfect for weddings. Stunning visit. Definitely recommend and will be visiting again in the future.

My friend and I went to have hot drink today. I was unfortunately needing the toilet quite badly. I have a bladder problem. Post surgery for prostate cancer. I was told in no uncertain terms that I could not use the toilet as there. Was work being done. The woman I spoke to was very blunt about my situation and suggested we go to the restaurant and pay for a drink and then I could use the toilet. I have a special card which enables me to use any toilet anywhere! The lady at the restaurant was very helpful and kind. We did not have to pay for any drinks! This is not what we expect from a place we regularly visit. Not happy!

My husband and I had our wedding last week at Samlesbury Hall and it was the most beautiful day! We've worked closely with the staff over this last year planning every last detail - they were so friendly and helpful in all our communications and made the whole planning process a breeze. We've had so many compliments from our guests on how stunning the Hall is, and it made for the perfect backdrop for our photos. We can't wait to revisit the Hall in the future as it holds so many special memories for us.

Modern arena for local sports teams, plus varied entertainment, leisure and business facilities.
Wonderful asset to the local community in the North West which deserves to host Premier League Football again as soon as possible. Great hotel attached as well. Loads of parking and convenient for so many destinations. Thoroughly recommended!

visited as an away fan, mostly pleasant experience, quick to get in and out, queue at the kiosk was quick compared to other grounds. food options are a bit poor and not amazing compared to previous visits, the stadium itself is a bit of a car park but seats had plenty of space and comfortable (not that we used them much) big plus and final bonus is for the programme seller who takes card payments, legend!

1st visit to the toughsheet Community Stadium. £8 for parking for the match and there is loads of parking spaces. You pay at the machine on leaving. The fan zone is brilliant, lots of street food, bars and toilets. A big screen playing football match was great before going in to the stadium. Staff at the ticket office very helpful and the football shop very busy. The stadium very easy to get around. We had seats in the upper north stand. Great view of the pitch. Great atmosphere from the Bolton supporters, plenty of singing. Unfortunately we only got to see Bolton play for 29 minutes before there was a medical emergency.

I visited as a disabled away fan and wow I have to say so far the best I’ve experienced. When we arrived the staff & stewards were so friendly and helpful from showing us where the accessible toilets were showing where to get food and drinks and finally showing us where we would be during the match. At most grounds I’ve visited there are normally stewards stood in the way through the game or at key moments but not at Bolton. The stewards stood off to the side so they didn’t get in the way. I think a lot of clubs and stadiums should look at how Bolton run a match day as they should get praised for the good work.

What is the point in producing a match programme and then not sell it around the ground? I was told it's on sale in the club shop. There's no way I sas gonna queue in torrential rain for that. Probs a trick to get fans into the shop?

The National Trust property of Sizergh Castle is a must-see for all visitors to the Lake District. There are beautiful carvings and furniture, as well as a conifer and rock garden, for kids to explore. The house is open to visitors at certain times of the year, so make sure to check it out!
Absolutely stunning 😍 ✨️ So glad that we visited this place. The grounds, gardens and castle are amazing. All the staff were so welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The only issue is that when it's really busy there is limited parking. It could do with an overflow car park.

Great example of a lived in castle, of sorts. The exhibits art and written guides were excellent, as were the detailed explanations provided by the guides. Of a standout were the beautiful gardens which were resplendent in autumnal colours. The cafe was also a highlight with helpful active servers.

Fantastic place to visit. Great its still lived in by the owners who have owned it for centuries. A lovely cafe with devious food. Gardens very pretty showing autumn colour. The N/T volunteers were knowledgeable and friendly. Glad we chose this place to visit.

Enjoyed our visit here. We didn't get to see the house but enjoyed a short walk in the parkland and garden. We were pleased to see lots of benches along the walking route we took. There were a lot of fungi in the woods. Nice cafe and usual assortment of gifts. Pleased to get a National Trust passport stamp and pin-badge 🤓

An absolutely stunning gardens, growing all different varieties of apples trees to colorful flowers and a little place for the bees 🐝 and a cute placid cat that looked very proud of there garden. On Mondays the castle is closed although the gardens are open and the trail upto the hill top church has beautiful views of the vally and hills. Sizergh is well worth a visit if you get the chance! Oh and the National Trust cream tea with the fruit scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream go down a treat washed down was a hot chocolate or be traditional with a classic English tea. The farm shop is close by that had the most delicious smoked cheeses, I had to indulge with the sweet onion chutney and the little round crackers 😋 Thankyou

Lovely, reasonably sized cafe, with a good selection for brunch, lunches and afternoon tea. There are extensive grounds for walking, and a medium sized formal garden to explore, with many acres for brilliant autumnal colour. Car parking and entry to the gardens and castle are free for national trust members.

This was our first visit to Sizergh and won't be the last! We went on the light trail which was absolutely spellbinding. Very beautifully executed with light installations and sound effects. The house was decorated for Christmas with period pieces, painstakingly done with great detail. Plenty of volunteers to answer any questions. The gardens were lovely and we were greeted by Charlie the cat! Decent sized cafe, toilets and large car park. Shop might require a second mortgage but it's to be expected. Enjoy.
Paula T — Google review
You need a few hours to explore the castle and garden. We had enquired about what would be the best ticket to buy as we had only an hour on our schedule. We were encouraged to buy the tickets for the castle and gardens and were assured that it can be done in an hour. But definitely need longer to enjoy the experience. We just ended up exploring the garden. But it is a very beautiful garden and you get a really good view of the castle.

Nature & Parks
Brockholes is a wetland and woodland nature reserve in Preston, offering a unique experience for nature enthusiasts. The reserve is home to rare bird species and features a floating visitor village. It hosts various family events such as craft sessions, open-air theatre, themed seasonal trails, tracking challenges, and den building activities. Additionally, it offers free guided walks and a popular school holiday club.
A great green open space and nature reserve for birds (no dogs allowed to protect ground nesting). Good set up where you can get a bite to eat and relax inside or out. The play area was a bit disappointing for the kids as it was under construction/refurb, but in fairness it looks like they're making a good job to make it better for the future.

We had a great time at the superhero event. My children are 18 months, 6 and 7 and they all joined in the fun! From mud throwing to den building, we were all entertained for a good 2 hours! The staff and volunteers were so friendly and great with the children. Thank you!

A lovely place to go visit with family, friends or just yourself. I usually walk all the way to Brockholes from the Preston city centre but even if the walk is long, the scenery makes up for it. A lot of greenery and amazing nature at Brockholes. A chance for you to bask in the nature and atmosphere and see the views. Definitely a must visit!

Had a lovely walk around Brockholes nature reserve. The weather was very pleasant nice sunny autumn day. Topped off with a coffee and ice cream. The car park has gone up to £6 which doesn't seem bad for all day parking but steep if your only there for a couple of hours. This makes people like cyclist park on the roadside so they don't gave to pay. The café is closed Mon, Tue, Wed now. Since we have been going the shop and plant stall have gone. The ice cream cafe has closed. You can get a coffee from the visitors centre out of a flask but the quality is poor and they charge £2.50 a cup. I know it's volunteer led, I know there is a cost to everything but if you don't provide facilities people won't bother going.

Lovely nature reserve and walking, however I stayed by the buildings where there was a lovely souvenir shop, a cafe, some conference rooms and children's play rooms. Haigh Woodland Park is a vast recreational area offering wooded hiking trails, a rope course, miniature railway, and golfing. It's an ideal stop for families visiting Wigan or exploring nearby attractions like the Three Sisters Racing Circuit and the Old Courts. After a refreshing walk in Haigh Woodland Park, visitors can enjoy traditional Sunday roasts at nearby pubs and restaurants.
Great park, lots of paths to walk with varied scenery leads to canal which you can walk and loop back round to the main park. Saw horse riders, cyclists, runners. The free park itself is well built with lots of challenges for the kids. Behind it was a small forest where the kids where making lean to shelters with the downed trees and branches. There is a paid high rope section however it's 8+ Also on site whilst visiting was a small amusement park. There is a square of various shops from chocolate to a pizzeria, deli, cafe and farm shop. The delivery we found to be great value and not too expensive. There are also ice cream vans dotted around if you are after a sweet treat. Parking is paid but reasonable at 3.50 for the day. Altogether it was a nice day out and would return.

Was disappointed to find the miniature train was all blocked off for maintenance, had all year but choose the first week of the summer holidays to do it, so, thought we'd go and look at the hall...nope, not possible as that was enveloped in a huge white screen, ok, so we went to the cafe and was charged £10 for a baked potato!! Parking is not free and you are not allowed to use a blue badge... had a little play area for kids and mini golf and Go Ape, " ornamental " pond was more like black slime and full of lily pads, totally neglected, lots of space for kids but lots of dogs off lead, so be careful, take a picnic too to save yourself some money
Donna P — Google review
I've been coming to this park for several years now and honestly, I feel like it is going a bit downhill. We arrived today and the two main play frames were sectioned off for repair. The funfair had stopped even though all the kids aren't back in school until at least Thursday. The go ape climbing was shut. The little train track is NEVER running when we go. It looks like it's undergoing maintenance but never seen anyone working on it. The duck pond has blue algae in it and doesn't seem like it is being treated. The main gardens with the lovely trees have been shut now for about 2 years. No idea why! The toilets are really smelly and the soap box hasn't been fixed in at least 12 months and you could really do with putting some toilets down near the smaller wooden park as I've been caught out twice there now with my toddler who needed a number 2! Luckily had bags on me for her to do it in! On a positive note, the cafes / shops are great. There's some woodland you can walk through which is good to explore. There's a range of play equipment suitable for all ages and 2 places you can play mini golf. Plenty of sit down spaces and picnic tables. Parking is cheap and you can spend hours there on a good day. The new flower garden is really lovely. There's a great little bird watching area and the shop on the way in is selling wild bird food for you to put on the tables. Wigan council need to do a lot better! This is a well used park and would be so much better with access to all areas!

We had a lovely day here. The park caters for all ages. There are 2 crazy golf's, my nearly 4 yr old grandson loved his first time playing this. The staff in the crazy golf were really friendly guy's and at only £1 per person, it's well worth visiting. We went to the cafe for lunch and the staff there are also very helpful and friendly. Only 2 highchairs available that we could see but we managed to beg one off a lady who's child had finished eating and also passed ours on after we finished with it. We also visited the small funfair. Tokens only and each token cost £2.50. Only thing I don't agree with is that the parent on the rides with small children have to pay a token too. We will definitely be going back there.

My two children, 11 and 8, and I, had a brilliant time here yesterday. It was a little disappointing to find there's quite extensive renovation works going on at both the hall and along the miniature railway, and this is the reason for the 4☆ review - not that we minded the work at all, it's clear this is in the best interest of the hall and the miniature railway, but that there's no mention on the website or Facebook page (which I checked prior to our visit) and also that we didn't know the path passing the swan pond to complete the 1 mile circuit was closed as there was no signage until we got there. It didn't make our day any less enjoyable, as we followed the path around past the victorian kennels ruins (a huge hit), then followed the canal back to the car park, but those paths weren't suitable for pushchairs or scooters so families with younger children would've had to turn back. Our 1 mile walk turned in to a lovely 3 mile trail, which we finished off with a picnic, a few fairground rides (all very quiet, I expect due to the rides costing £2.50 each), and an ice cream from the van (£10 for 3). We did head over to the playground, but we found the equipment a bit too busy for us so we went back to find their favourite tree and had a bit of a climb before we left. £3.50 for the car park all day is a bargain when compared to other similar locations, particularly as there is so much going on here for children. We spent 4.5 hours here in total, but could easily have stayed all day, and we look forward to returning when the miniature railway re-opens as the kids would've loved this. It would just be nice to know before you travel what closures are in place, so you can plan your day accordingly.

Haigh Hall and the surrounding plantations, AKA Haigh Woodland Park are a great place for a bit of R&R. The main path through the plantations is wide and and is surfaced with tarmac making it accessible for all. It's both dog and cycle friendly with several entrances that include access from Swinley, Whelley and Haigh. As of March 2025 the main hall, a listed stately home, is currently undergoing restoration however there are many other facilities in the immediate vicinity. These include a sprawling playground for the kids, high rope adventure, mini golf, a great little bar and numerous cafes and shops. There is also a large carpark close to the facilities for those who wish to arrive by car.

Very nice , popular country park , with plenty to see and do . I went for the adventure golf , and walk around the shops , which were all close together . The shops are quite small , with plenty of eating options . They have several golfing options . Standard golf course , footgolf ( you kick the ball into a hole ) , adventure golf ,and a smaller/cheaper crazy golf course . Did the adventure golf which was very popular and reasonably priced . The theming was old school charm , and even had a moving viking ship . The holes were well presented if a little worn . The playing surface was super smooth and fast , probably because it is well trodden . This made putting out tricky , as a missed putt could travel a few feet past . Also on occasion , the ball would roll out of bounds . There are two water holes , which can slow things down , if you go in the water , there are scoops available to fish the ball out . I was alright but the groups in front of me had problems . Good course , enjoyed it , might do it again sometime . There is lots of parking , which is reasonably priced , and how no issues with the pay machines . The park is about 15 minutes off the motorway and makes for a fun stop .

Scenic spot
Hiking area
Aira Force Waterfall is a beloved attraction in the picturesque Lake District, drawing visitors for over three centuries. The waterfall is where rainwater from the fells cascades into Aira Beck, creating a dramatic 65-foot drop. Surrounding the falls are nature trails leading to viewpoints and offering a secluded feel. Visitors can explore a network of trails from Ullswater lakeshore to Gowbarrow summit, passing through woodland glades and spotting rare red squirrels along the way.
We visited Aira Force during a weekend away from Manchester and were really pleased we made the stop. We arrived early, so parking was easy, though I can imagine it gets quite busy later in the day, especially during peak times. There is a bit of walking involved, including a fair number of steps, so it may not be ideal for those with larger pushchairs or anyone who finds walking difficult. That said, the paths are well maintained and the surroundings are lovely. The waterfalls themselves were fantastic powerful, scenic and well worth the effort. The whole area has a peaceful, natural charm and is clearly well looked after. It’s somewhere we would definitely return to next time we’re in the area. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys nature and a bit of light walking.

Visited with my wife whilst on holiday with our dogs. We did not use the main carpark but found one right at the peak on the hill. A beautiful forest walk with rushing water streams and the main centrepiece waterfall. Beautiful lakeland vistas on the edge of the woods also. A very worthwhile visit.
Daniel W — Google review
Interesting waterfall with a fairly long walk up to the cascades at the top. Not a difficult walk but paths are uneven in places. Visited a couple of times now. Car park and visitor centre is there at the bottom of the trail. Friendly staff, and free for National Trust members.
David T — Google review
Such a breathtaking place. The scale and size of the waterfall is just a great experience to witness. The surrounding forest and parkland is lovely to walk through. The viewing platform at the bottom of the waterfall gives a unique and stunning view.
Nigel S — Google review
Get ready for steep descend and climb up for the waterfall. If you do not want to get down, you can visit the waterfall far from the place. Car park is smaller, and will easily be full during peak period.
Martin R — Google review
Excellent scenic place to visit (even in the rain). We parked in the car park just off the A5091, there is a smaller car park further up the road nearer to the top of the falls. Parking (if not a National Trust member) was six pounds for two hours, which should be adequate to walk up to and back down from the falls, although you may want longer if visiting the tea rooms adjacent to the site. The walk, whilst up hill is not too strenuous, but care is needed in places due to tree roots and a bit of mud when wet. It is worth walking up past the staircase down to the upper stone bridge, as there are some lovely smaller falls and scenery up past the main falls. The walk is circular and only about a mile or so round, the views are spectacular, especially with the waterfall in full flow, which it was for our visit. It was very rainy when we went, but it did nothing to dampen our spirits, and was a great spot to visit. We did look in at the tea rooms, but it was quite busy so I can't comment on these. When it's busy there may be a bit of a queue for the car park, but be patient, it is worth the wait.
Rich C — Google review
Big car park but often full so be patient. It is around £8 for 4 hours with a coffee shop, picnic area and little gift shop abalone before you do the walk. The walk is enjoyable scenic and not too stressful. Your able to walk your dog to but it must be on a lead. The views are stunning with multiple routes on offer. If you walk to the top of the water fall and back it's maybe 45 minuets. If you walk to the top other hill and do the whole waterfall it is 3 his if down very leisurely. Don't worry about the weather it don't stop you doing any of this
248baumer X — Google review
Aira Force was a great place to see a waterfall close up. Plenty of path and steps for different abilities with viewing platforms and bridges as you headed uphill. A few seats along the way if you need to rest. Some of paths were quite rocky and uneven though. Parking was busy but you didn’t need to book. Look out for the Red Squirrels!

Orrest Head, a small hill in the Lake District, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside from its summit. This trail is known for its accessibility and suitability for all experience levels, making it a perfect choice for a scenic amble rather than a challenging climb. The hike provides stunning vistas of misty mountains, rambling vales, and the largest natural lake in England, Windermere. It's recommended to visit during different seasons to witness the changing landscapes and unique beauty each time.
Around a 30 min walk to the top with a more accessible route available and gorgeous view at the end. Caught a beautiful sunset as well!

A great place to walk. There's a fantastic view at the top. There's Gruffalo/ Stickman sculptures halfway up the hill. There's also a sculpture trail that wasn't there last time I headed up Orrest Head. We parked in a free layby. The closest ones to Orrest Head have a time limit, but the one a bit further back hasn't a time limit. Great place to visit for families.

This is a hidden gem where you must go if you want to enjoy abundance of natural beauty. After you reach here you get a full 360 degree view of Windermere and the surrounding areas. Very serene and peaceful place. It is around 2 km climb from Windermere, not too steep but not very easy either. Actually there's an accessible road though I won't recommend people on wheel chairs to get here, strollers are ok. We went in the morning before breakfast so there wasn't any crowd. Just one note, the views show up only after you reach the spot, not much to admire on the way. Sharing a few pictures that I clicked here.

This is a really lovely spot. It has spectacular views over Windermere and the hill and mountains. There's a great information board showing what you can see. It's the first hill that Wainwright climbed when he came to the Lake District. There are 2 routes to get to the top, one is steeper and shorter and the other easier and suitable for push chairs.

Orrest Head is such a lovely walk and perfect for families. It’s an easy path from Windermere up through woodland that opens out to a beautiful viewpoint over the lake and surrounding fells. The climb is gentle but the view from the top is amazing, especially on a clear day. We’ve done it a few times now and it’s one of those walks you never get tired of.

Easy to get to from the station, cross the road the sign for the start is there. There are two ways to get up. The red route, which includes steps and the blue route, is an accessible route that allows wheelchairs and buggies. Great view from the top. If you have hay-fever, bring the tissues lol

Little Legs Fabrics is not just a store for fabrics, but also a haven for animal lovers. Aside from its main business of selling fabrics, the store houses various animals in their courtyard and outdoor paddocks during summer months. Visitors can have an up-close encounter with donkeys, goats, alpacas, pigs, sheep, free-range chickens and rabbits. The farm-to-table food offered in the store is exceptional as it makes use of local produce extensively.
I’m fairly new to fabric ordering, but Little Legs Fabric had the quickest turnaround compared to other shops I have bought from. Great delivery tracking too.

Ordered two sewing patters to be printed in AO. As a new sewer and male the patterns are hard to come by. This way was easy, in theory. The team were very patience and made the extra effort to get me what I needed. They were printed and posted perfectly. Not very often in retail do places give you a wow service but this was up there with the best. Really was very pleased with something so simple as kindness.

Little Legs Fabrics are amazing! They stock beautiful fabrics and process and dispatch orders very quickly. They are also prompt to respond to any queries. The only downside is that after liking their Facebook page, I now see all the tempting new fabric and my bank balance is taking a hit!

Such a wonderful selection of designs. I have made lots of bits for my son from Little legs fabrics. Gorgeous quality and he loves the designs! Will be shopping again.

I've ordered several times from here and have never had an issue, always arrives promptly, correctly and well packaged. A lovely selection so when I'm looking I know I'll find something, fabrics are well described and catalogued on the website. Just wish I was closer to visit in person ☺️

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Beatrix Potter at the captivating World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in Bowness-on-Windermere. This interactive exhibit beautifully brings to life the beloved characters from her timeless children's books, offering a perfect family-friendly experience, especially on rainy days. Delve into the story of Potter's writing and her significant contribution to Lakeland conservation through engaging displays.
Do you enjoy the imaginary world created by the wonderful Beatrix Potter, or simply the famous Peter Rabbit? This is a great place to spend the day exploring an amazing curated environment in a busy town. Make sure you travel light and avoid bringing your buggy if possible as it does get rather tight spaced with the audience viewing but they do control no. Of people at a time as there is a 3min video at the start. Get the free activity book and find the answers with your children. There is also two cafe - one that offers coffee and cakes and painting, the other (across the road) is newly added which offers food also but closes early and can get rather busy.

Such a beautifully curated attraction. We all loved it (adults) so beautifully done. It must have been such a joy to put to together, the modelling and art work was so clever. I loved going into the garden it looked just like the real garden at Hill Top (though smaller). The little boxes with Beatrix Potter figures in a mini tableau were exquisite. A must for all ages.

I first visited this place three years ago, and I found that this place was quite small. I cannot believe how much bigger it has become this year. They have not only added more visual aids of scenes in mainly Peter Rabbit’s stories, but also added a brand new gallery showing the background of Beatrix Potter, involved with the Lake District history. It’s quite fun to take photos here and observe cute little animal figures in the barrows closely. The gift shop has not changed much, and the products there remain the same. Overall, it is an interesting place to visit, especially when you come with families and friends.

I’m in love! Totally worth a visit if you are a fan or in town with the kids. Lovely exhibition and enough activities to keep the kids entertained. Even if you’re not a fan it is worth a visit for their display! From an artistic perspective they did a marvelous job. Unfortunately for we visited quite late in the day so we only got to spend so much time inside. Would recommended the latest admission at 15:00 if you truly want to enjoy the full experience and get lost in the world of Beatrix Potter!

Superb!! The highlight of our holiday. We started at the cafe across the road (well worth a visit) and then came here. It starts with a short film which my 2 year old enjoyed, and then the free-pace walk around was outstanding. Low stimulation great for toddlers, beautiful displays and garden really brings the books to life. We’ve told everyone about it as we enjoyed it so much. I hope this stays with my daughter as a childhood memory and hope we can come again in the future

Located at Turbary Woods Sanctuary in Preston, the Owl & Bird of Prey Sanctuary is a haven for protected raptor species. Run by dedicated volunteers, this avian center offers flying demonstrations and treasure hunts for kids. Visitors can embark on a global journey as they encounter majestic lions and giraffes from the African Savannah, as well as endearing elephants and orangutans from Asia. Guests have praised the sanctuary's informative bird air show and the opportunity to interact with beautiful owls.
Brilliant day! The team of volunteers are wonderful, friendly and kind. They take such good care of the birds and are great with the audience, especially the children. So many beautiful owls and birds of prey. If you watch the 12.30 display there’s plenty of opportunities for the kids to help fly the birds and the volunteers are very knowledgeable and entertaining. The thing I loved is that the place isn’t polished and aimed at rinsing money out of tourists, it’s all about the birds and making sure they are cared for and understood. A little hidden gem. Thank you for having us, we’ll be back!

Absolutely brilliant! What a wonderful experience and to be able to get up so close to these beautiful animals. We bought the owl experience for my brothers birthday and he loved it! He couldn't stop smiling! All the volunteers are very knowledge, friendly and passionate about the birds and the sanctuary. I love the fact it's not commercialised. Its all about the birds and creating a safe and natural environment for visitors to enjoy too. Thank you for having us and allowing us to take photographs of a very memorable day.

Great sanctuary to see owls and bird of prey up close. The volunteer guides were informative and friendly, and all guests can experience handling some birds during the flight display show. Highly recommended place to visit and hope to get another chance to come again! =^^=

We found this place while looking for something to do on our journey back to north wales from the lake district. What an absolute gem of a place. It's £12 entry you get to see the various birds in the aviaries. There is also a flying display in the price at no extra cost. The display was absolutely fantastic finding out about the individual birds you also get the birds flying to your hand also. This place isn't a big company owned place. It's run by volunteers. All the money they receive goes to the care and feeding of the birds. I would highly recommend this place if your in the area.
Alix D — Google review
Great little place. All volunteers which you can tell really love the birds they look after. The show was really good and got to hold one. No show will be the same because the birds will only do what they want to do, which is great they are not forced to do anything.

What a lovely little place. It's run by volunteers who are lovely. There is an array of owls and some birds of prey. It is £12 to get in and they also have consessions. It opens at 11am (ish) and closes at 2pm. From 1230pm to 2pm there is a flying display. This is very informative and you get to fly the birds. You can get a drink, hot or cold and snacks but there is not a cafe as such. I must reiterate just how nice the volunteers are. Will definitely go back again.
Dave M — Google review
What a little gem, just under 30 minutes from home! We spent around 3 hours here and the time absolutely flew by. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and you can really feel how much they care for the birds. The flying display was a highlight: not only spectacular to watch, but also full of interesting facts that we learned along the way. The sanctuary is run entirely by volunteers, so every penny goes directly towards the care and upkeep of the birds. They do take card payments, but if you can, bring some cash along as it helps them avoid card fees and means more support goes straight to the upkeep of the sanctuary. We also got a great local tip for lunch afterwards at The Farmers Arms, just a few minutes away, which rounded off the day perfectly. Highly recommend a visit - we’ll definitely be back!
Darja P — Google review
This place was absolutely fantastic!! Such a special day. I came with my family and immediately the staff are super friendly and helpful, they all clearly have lots of passion for the birds they care for. the displays are wonderful, you get a good view of the birds and get to see them up close. All the birds have educational signs posted to their enclosures about the species and conservational status so it's super great to teach children too. There are many birds to see, along with a small park to roam in and you can make a day out of it with a picnic. The best part by far were the Owl showings. It's an intimate little gathering where the volunteers show the owls up close, out of enclosure, and even give you the oppurtunity to hold and feed them. This is of course, only if the owls feel up to it, which is my favourite part about it, as it puts my mind at ease knowing the best interest is in the animals rather than the audiences entertainment. The Owls were super friendly and playful the day I went, and so were the volunteers, who really just have so much love for these birds, and make sure that each and every member of the audience get to participate fully. All this for a relatively cheap price considering the experience, can't recall the exact amount but it was worth every penny!! Aboslutely recommend for anyone who loves birds, animals or has kids with a passion for learning and nature

Quicker walk through than expected and didn't seem to give a possibility to walk through again. Lovely little shop at the end. We weren’t sure what to expect from Lakes Aquarium, but it turned out to be a really enjoyable visit. It’s not huge, but there’s loads packed into the space — otters, rays, frogs, fish from around the world, and a cool underwater tunnel with local species like pike and perch. The otters were a highlight, especially at feeding time. The tanks are well kept, and everything feels clean and well looked after. There’s a nice flow to the place and plenty of signs with interesting facts. It’s perfect for families — kids loved it, but we found ourselves enjoying it just as much. Good value for money, and you can pair it with the steam train or a boat ride nearby to make a full day of it. Staff were friendly, the gift shop had some fun stuff (not too overpriced), and overall it made for a really lovely stop. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area and looking for something fun and educational that doesn’t take up the whole day.

Was pleasantly surprised when visiting, it was a bit bigger than I expected given the reasonable price! Lots to see, the whole family really enjoyed it. Took just under an hour from start to finish. Surprisingly good. It is larger than I expected making use of multiple floors inside the building. The Otters, for me, are the stars! They are great to see. My youngest son was entertained looking at all the fish and animals, and my eldest also liked the fish but was kept entertained by trying to answer the quiz sheet handed to him. Great value for money.

Visitors can enjoy interacting with a variety of farm animals and cute furry pets while also indulging in delicious coffee and cake at the lovely on-site cafe.
We visited the farm yesterday with our daughter (18m) and we all had a brilliant time! Theres plenty of animals and you can feed most of them, which our daughter loved. The facilities and great, and the train ride was brill. The staff are super friendly and helpful, especially Ryan who took the time to talk to us and introduced our daughter to plenty of animals and critters, he was very informative and was a real credit to the farm. The food from the cafe was lovely, especially the burger! Can't recommend this place enough, we look forward to returning.

Lovely little farm with a great train ride too. Play areas for the children too. Only thing I didn't like was there were no shelters in the enclosures for the animals. Nice big car park and staff were friendly.

We HIGHLY recommend this farm!! Us as a family absolutely LOVE windmill farm it’s absolutely beautiful and so much to do there!! Windmill farm is very close to my heart I have been going since I was a little girl and now I have the pleasure to bring my 3 children to show them my childhood memories at this gorgeous farm honestly core memories and even more heart warming that it’s a family ran farm. Staff are all so helpful and happy very attentive nothing is a bother for them. I have also had birthday parties here again everything was just perfect my eldest daughter is now 8 years old we done it for her 5th birthday and children from the school still remember the party and I still take children back when I go with my children honestly this farm never gets old for us we are just so lucky that it’s local to us xxx thank you to all the staff at windmill farm

The place is great , lovely staff , food and the animals are great. We had a good time. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because the animals out in the fields have no natural or made shelter. It was so hot they all seemed distressed and excessive panting and trying to find shade!! Risk of heat stress and stroke!! This really needs to be given for extreme heat we are having at the moment and for even in other weather conditions. It was even hotter the day after which made me think of the animals! Only thing that let it down.

Great farm to take the kids to. Lots to see and do. The young guy who was on the rabbit and guinea pig area was really great and knowledgeable about all the animals. We sat and held the rabbits and guinea pigs and fed the baby lambs. Not just a day out for kids but great for adults too. Great little train ride around the farm.soft play area for kids. Cafe food expensive and not great so I’d advise take a packed lunch. Overall staff lovely welcoming, place is clean and really great fun, lots of free parking.
