National Trust - Orford Ness National Nature Reserve

Nature preserve
Orford Ness National Nature Reserve, located on the Suffolk coast, offers visitors the chance to take a boat tour or enjoy a leisurely walk along the shore. This reserve is renowned for its stunning water and wildlife vistas. Once a secretive military testing site, it now welcomes birdwatchers, walkers, and history enthusiasts.
Orford Ness is an amazing place to visit. We have been twice, and there is still plenty to find out about what the military did there during both world wars. A lot of the original buildings are no longer there, and a lot of the others you don't have access to for safety reasons, but it is still fascinating. We are looking at going again next year to book on one of the guided walks, so there is someone that has more knowledge and is able to answer any questions you might have. You are better off checking the national trust website to see what they have going on as you need to book in advance anyway. You can only gain access via the national trust boat, booked in advance. They have different time slots, and the boats back are every twenty minutes . There is no cafe there or shop so you are better off taking a packed lunch. There are, however, tea and coffee making facilities in the second-hand book shop where you make your own for a donation of a least a pound, which is very cheap for a drink.

Great place to visit, it's a huge site with some interesting military buildings, they have transport to help people around the site which is a relief on the way back to the boat. The staff are amazing, such a lovely bunch of people that work there especially Mary who spent time talking to our little boy about the birds on the Ness...highly recommend.
Steven S — Google review
Absolutely loved visiting Orford Ness, the atmosphere was beautifully calm and the history of the site was really interesting to learn about, I've never seen anything like it! John was absolutely fantastic, super friendly knowledgeable and showed us around explaining the history of the site, answering our questions and just being an all around excellent chap, so huge thanks to him! The ferry across was a quick trip which we booked in advance and you can get the ferry back whenever you fancy as long as its before the last crossing! We spent basically all day here, exploring the history and the nature reserve, the passionate and knowledgeable staff really make this experience top notch and I can't recommend it enough!
Jenn R — Google review
Tickets cost £4.50 for national trust members and you need to book in advance. The cost covers the ferry ride over. The car park also costs £4.50. You get to explore the nature reserve at your own pace with a map. There is a blue route and red route you have to follow and you’re not allowed to stray off the path because of unexplored ordnance. There are buildings and bunkers to explore and a few mini museums. There is also a tea shop and toilets. Expect to walk 7-13 KM on the site to explore everything.
Chris G — Google review
Access to island is by small boat only at certain times which is why you have to book in advance via National Trust. Not a lot there, only a few building accessible. There is a lot of walking involved so stout footwear would be recommend
Phil P — Google review
An excellent Nature Reserve to visit, and fascinating wartime and Vold War history. Beautiful isolated location packed with wildlife, and the boat ride across is a bonus. Just pay attention (unlike some visitors) to the 'danger, do not enter' signs as there are still unexploded bombs.
Martin R — Google review
Amazing place to engage with history and nature! Lots of spots preserved in time, with so much information about the importance of the Orford Island in the war. Something really important to stress is, to see anything there is a lot of walking! (Like 7k round trip to the buildings on the shingle - see map in pics) Everything is very spread out, but it's over beautiful landscapes. On the day we visited, it went from blue skies and sun to torrential rain, as seen in the last 2 pictures (apparently this happens alot, so take a rain coat). The volunteers on the island were friendly, passionate and knowledgeable. There is also nowhere to buy food or cold drinks on the island (the book shop has a kettle and tea and instant coffee available for a small donation). Next time we visit we will take a picnic and make a day of it. The Ferry service was smooth, on time and the captain was friendly. For anyone who likes rambling and walking in nature or world war history (or ideally both) this place is a must-see.
Rob M — Google review
Spent an afternoon on this ‘Island of Secrets’ taking the ‘Half Day Trailer Tour’ with the National Trust. The tour was a great way to see some of the important buildings and landmarks on this intriguing part of Suffolk. Our guides for the day, Richard and David, were excellent, knowledgeable and keen to share their love for Orford Ness. The trailer tour is a great way to see the sites, so that you can decide which ones to explore further, on foot at a later date. You travel to Orford Ness by a small boat, it takes less than 5 minutes, which gives you great views of the river too. Highly recommend a visit.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Orford Castle, a 12th-century structure managed by English Heritage, offers a unique experience for families. The castle features a polygonal tower keep built by Henry II, with various chambers in the turrets including a chapel and kitchen. Visitors can explore the keep filled with history from medieval times to post-World War II. Additionally, the Quay provides entertainment with local footpaths and crabbing activities.
What an interesting castle, only one of two in this style in England. Intact, with an excellent interactive audio guide included. Lots of interesting and unusual features. Doesn't take very long to explore all areas but definitely worth the visit. Orford village is so pretty too!
Jakki S — Google review
Lovely old Castle set in a picturesque village of Orford. Small car park but was plenty of spaces available when I visited. Can pay entry fee online or at entrance. Media players available while visiting the many rooms. Definitely worth a visit.
BB 6 — Google review
Nice castle and lovely staff! Some interesting history, obviously. Just knocked one star off as entry fee was a bit steep with parking on top for what amounts to a 30 minute visit (you don’t need any longer).
Kat H — Google review
It is a small castle, but it has beautiful views. Ran and cared for by English heritage. A few rooms to explore and a few stairs to climb obviously, an audio guild is available also. Small car park, free for English Heritage members.
Steven M — Google review
Absolutely quintessential castle keep. Built in the 12th century for Henry II, Orford Castle was intended to curtail the power of turbulent East Anglian barons, such as Hugh Bigod of nearby Framlingham Castle. Its polygonal keep was built to a revolutionary design, which is today a landmark in the Suffolk landscape
Mike W — Google review
Well maintained castle and impressed by the multi media guide, very interactive and what a unique experience. Definitely would recommend it.
Eric T — Google review
Orford Castle is a remarkable 12th-century fortress located in the village of Orford, Suffolk, England. Commissioned by King Henry II between 1165 and 1173, the castle was built to assert royal authority in East Anglia, a region then dominated by powerful barons like Hugh Bigod. Its unique polygonal keep, described by historian R. Allen Brown as “one of the most remarkable keeps in England,” showcases a blend of military and symbolic architectural elements, possibly influenced by Byzantine designs. The keep’s design features a central circular tower flanked by three rectangular towers, creating a distinctive and innovative structure for its time . Beyond its architectural significance, Orford Castle is steeped in local legend. One of the most famous tales is that of the “Wild Man of Orford,” a mysterious, hairy man captured by fishermen and held in the castle, who eventually escaped back to the sea. This legend has contributed to the rich tapestry of folklore surrounding the castle . Today, Orford Castle is managed by English Heritage and is open to the public. Visitors can explore the well-preserved keep and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Suffolk countryside. The castle also houses the Orford Museum, which features exhibits on local history and archaeological finds. For those planning a visit, the castle is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Booking tickets online before 8:45 AM on the day of your visit can save you 15% on admission. Please note that while tickets are valid all day, parking fees may apply separately .

National Trust - Sutton Hoo

National park
Located on the outskirts of Woodbridge in Suffolk, National Trust - Sutton Hoo is a significant historical site that offers a glimpse into Anglo-Saxon history. The estate features an Edwardian house and exhibitions showcasing the excavated Anglo-Saxon burial site, including a ship burial chamber reconstruction. Managed by the National Trust, visitors can explore the exhibition hall with an intriguing video, learn about the fascinating story of Anglo-Saxon pagan kings, and participate in guided tours during summer.
Great place to loose yourself in for a few hours! Accessible parking and a few disabled toilets dotted about, instead of just one! There's clearly marked accessible walks. Dog friendly. Lots of information on the route. On our visit it was on reduced opening so unfortunately we didn't get to look around the house or museum but intend to return when visiting the area as we are interested in experiencing Sutton Hoo fully! The keepers hut was open and serving hot drinks and snacks, the lady working in there is a gem. She was a delightful lady and worked hard alone in the hut keeping everyone warm and happy! Greeting everyone with a smile, even those that can be rather challenging at times! All the staff we came across were helpful, welcoming and friendly! The grounds here were impeccably kept and cared for. Definitely worth a visit!
S S — Google review
We were inspired to visit by actor Tony Robinson, whose enthusiasm in the Time Team Sutton Hoo dig series is infectious. That said, our visit was not as excellent as we had hoped, and the reason was mostly how the Sutton Hoo story is told. Although there is significant East Anglian historical information online, and the National Trust web pages provide contextual information in manageable chunks, the story told onsite is not as seamless. Indeed, it’s a bit fragmented, with a bit found here, and a bit there. Moreover, we were unable to find much information during our visit about the modern excavations that create the storyline for the Time Team series. Other reviewers have mentioned that a guided tour brings many of these pieces together, but none was available when we visited. We found Tranmer House to be quite interesting because of the information available and the somewhat innovative display methods being used, but it was a bit of a challenge to follow the storyline because there is no directional advice in the rooms. The highlight of the house displays is the collection of 1939 dig photographs by amateur photographers Mercie Lack and Barbara Wagstaff. Similarly, the High Hall exhibition space near the main entrance is designed to be explored in one direction, but without any indication of where one should start, we were halfway around in the opposite direction before we sensed we were seeing things in the wrong order. The hall’s current exhibition “The Dig: A Story Unearthed,” which explores the making of the 2025 Netflix film, is excellent. As for the mounds themselves, they’re pretty unremarkable to see, but the walk to and from was nice. So, our summary: Definitely go, but read up before your visit, and arrange a guided tour if possible. Our visit was about 2.5 hours.
David R — Google review
Such a great day out! Right from the friendly staff in the ticket office, to the very knowledgeable guides around the site, everything is well organised. The tour of the mounds is fascinating, the house is also steeped in interesting items and the "Dig" exhibition is amazing. Don't miss the lovely walk down to the river through the forest and fields of sheep. Back to the cafe for reasonably priced delicious food and drinks. The fresh cream tea was perfect. Thanks to all for making the day special.
Neil A — Google review
Wonderful piece of countryside and ancient history. Went just out of season so not everything was open. Free parking for Trust members. Lovely walks through the woods and down by the river. Lots of birds to watch as well. Probably would have given a five if everything had been open - although cafe was.
Rich M — Google review
An interesting destination and quite different from other National Trust sites. The car park is fairly small but there us an overflow car park available. The main exhibition hall and cafe and shop are next to the car park, which is really handy if anyone in your group has mobility issues. It's a short walk to the house, which has some interesting displays and activities. The burial mounds are about 10 minutes beyond the house. Overall I would say this is very family orientated, with lots of activities for children but if you aren't a member the price is quite high compared to other NT properties.
Paul H — Google review
Excellent exhibition and staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Great facilities, lovely walks and views, with viewing tower of burial mounds and paths surrounding. Nice walk down to the river Deben with views over Woodbridge.
Spencer W — Google review
We arrived about 9:50 and there were 4 cars ahead of us in the queue, and they opened the gates bang on 10am. For the first hour it was quiet and peaceful; everything set out for the kids this summer holiday was accessible and colourful, and once the exhibition hall was opened, you had an uninhibited chance to see the artefacts. Staff were friendly and we were lucky with the weather too. It was our first visit as we holidayed in the area, and when my boys are older, I think they will enjoy it a lot more.
JK W — Google review
Visited twice in 2 days. The exhibits and museum activities were fantastic. The viewing tower, house and grounds were very interesting and the staff/volunteers throughout were friendly, informative and understanding. We have special needs children and it should be noted that there has been provision made on the restaurant area for a dog free zone and a sensory/activity friendly area which is a lovely touch. Also, a big thank you to the staff who found our daughters bag that she left on Tuesday!

Wildlife park
Sights & Landmarks
Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park is a renowned destination in Suffolk, offering a unique blend of wildlife encounters, rare breed farm experiences, dining options, and even serving as a wedding venue. Founded by TV personality Jimmy Doherty, the park features an impressive array of facilities including Europe's largest polar bear reserve. The farm is home to various animals such as ponies, donkeys, and chickens that visitors can interact with by feeding them.
Jimmy's is a wonderful day out for all ages. The park was much bigger than I expected and there's so much to see. My only slight grumble is there wasn't a lot of seating, especially in shaded areas and we happened to visit on a very hot day! To be fair, we did visit during the Summer holidays, so it was very busy. I recommend downloading the app before your visit. It is really helpful. You're able to see what's happening on the day you visit, plan your day and it stores your tickets for easy access. We will definitely come back again.
Catherine D — Google review
Had a wonderful day out at Jimmy's wildlife park with my wife and two dogs. The only place dogs can't go is the butterfly and reptile enclosures. So much to see and a lovely environment. Ample activities for kids and buying animal feed gives you the chance to get close to a lot of different animals. We saw the bears... although sleepy as we passed and watched a couple enjoying an 'experience' and feeding the brown bears. Thoroughly recommend. 10/10 The shops are great too.
Mike H — Google review
Website does not do it justice, the FARM section is pigs but the rest is a fine selection of a small scale zoo. Powerd wheelchairs available but we had our own and it copped just fine, its hard pac mostly and the off road bit was 1 little section which wont be there once they complete the other enclosure its only temporary. Amazing place, great for family and Adults, they offer wedding packages too, food and drink prices relevant to the times.
Vaw P — Google review
This should be the standard for all animals living in captivity! From the moment I arrived & saw the entrance sign (even this is a habitat), I knew I was in for a special day. I was overwhelmed with emotion when I saw how well thought out this entire property is & the love for these beautiful creatures is evident everywhere. I was visiting from Canada on Oct 2nd 2025 & must say this is my new favourite place on earth! I was so impressed, I returned on Nov 4th for my last day in the country, to immerse myself again in this most spectacular of environments. During our first visit, we had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy & his wife, who were both most generous with their time! I definitely feel like I met two real life superheroes who certainly are making the world a better place! My family in England all purchased season passes & I cannot wait until my next trip so that I can visit here again. The entrance fee is beyond worth it, all of the staff are friendly & knowledgeable & if you get hungry, I’d highly recommend the Mac ‘n’ Cheese from the restaurant (I ordered it both visits, the best!). Animal lovers will not be disappointed, I only wish I lived nearby because I’d be a member and visit every week. Truely inspiring, thank you ❤️
Paula H — Google review
This is a wonderful zoo! Wonderful to see the polar bears and normal brown bears aswell, beautiful trail walks around the park that take you to the Big Cats section and just around the zoo, plenty of stuff to eat and drink on way round with kids play areas at same location with picnic areas if you did bring your own food, plenty of wash stations aswell! Would recommend good footwear you done mind getting dirty, we visited in November but I can imagine some places would still be kinder muddy even in the summer, most of the paths are tarmacked on the way round expect the paths through the woods(obviously), all and all I would book in advance and would 100% go again and recommend to anyone!
Curtis D — Google review
Lovely open spaces for kids move around. Animals looked well and enclosures were large and clean. Saw the brown bears asleep in the woods which was a lovely sight. My 2 year old grandson enjoyed every moment. Staff very nice and helpful. Would visit again next year well worth it. Lovely looking pack of wolves but to far away for good pic.
Tracey M — Google review
Absolutely brilliant day out! A rainy day didn't stop us from having a lovely time! It was all super well kept, with good pathways and all of the enclosures are absolutely incredible! The food at the restaurant was amazing, service was brilliant despite it being absolutely packed with rain dodgers! Super reasonable price for food sourced locally (meat and other things being from the farm itself!). The talks were great, super informative and every staff member took the time to speak to everyone at the end and answer all questions! All of the animals seemed really happy! Farm favourites had to have been the week old Capybara pup, Brown bears (up trees!), polar bears, armadillo, and Suffolk punches! I would recommend to anyone! Can't wait to come back with my nephew!

I did the lemur experience today and it was brilliant. Spent time with these amazing animals who were utterly beautiful, very friendly and gentle. The keeper and a volunteer were also brilliant. Very knowledgeable and took plenty of photos for me which I was very grateful for. I can’t remember their names but a huge thank you to you both. Your a credit to Jimmys. Will definitely be back. Thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the park.

Art gallery
Snape Maltings is a vibrant hub of music, independent shops, galleries, and dining options housed in repurposed Victorian buildings. Once one of the largest flat floor maltings in the country, it was transformed into its current lively mix by George Gooderham starting in 1965.
Easily one of the most magical places to get married for music lovers. I photographed a wedding here and as a musician myself I was just blown away by how special it felt. Plus it’s just a really unique setting for a wedding. So many marquees and barns these days - they’re pretty, yes, but there’s nothing else quite like this. 🙌🏻

Went to a concert as part of the annual celebration and it is such a great location. The main concert hall has great views from all seats. Toilets are plentiful and clean. Bar is reasonably priced for a captive audience. Staff helpful and the whole site is magical.

Really lovely place to visit- you could easily spend the whole day here as its in a beautiful riverside setting and there is so much to see and to do. Perhaps you will choose to walk out over the marshes on the board walk, take a boat trip, wander around the antique shop, admire the work in the art galleries, buy something fabulous from the interiors shop for your home, treat yourself to something stylish and unique from the boutique, have lunch in the excellent coffee shop and stock up on produce from the deli, all before visiting the concert hall and experiencing a performance in a concert hall with extraordinary acoustics...... Visit Snape Maltings:you will be pleased you did.
Susannah C — Google review
We went to a National Youth Orchestra concert, which was excellent, and then spent several hours the next day exploring the site and doing some shopping. There are lots of different things to see and do, so we had a very enjoyable experience.
David S — Google review
Let me start saying it's not the cheapest of places, but however it's a lovely place to visit there are lots of little craft shops and café. You can walk around the place and take in the river and scenery. As for music venue goes it's really quite good. As driver getting in it's a bit of a nightmare. One way system lots of parking.
Paul J — Google review
I visited Snape Maltings today. I followed the "Way out" signs, only to be met with heavy plant working on the roadway. I was abruptly told to back up and use the incoming lane to exit. Shame no one in project management even considered rerouting the way out signs whilst the work is going on as I was not the only member of public who followed these signs to be faced with same dilemma. I'm pretty sure the health and safety executive would be very interested in this issue.
S K — Google review
Free parking, funky shops, great pub and cafe onsite (veg samosas and ginger ice cream to die for). Great for a mooch and an ice cream on the lawn during the day but do try and get a ticket to see some world class music in the main hall in the evening - its an outstanding night out at an iconic venue. Also great walks from the car park and forrest nearby to the south (again plenty of free parking in the woods). Great day out.
Tim B — Google review
The galleries, food shops and the actual attraction are lovely but the antique shop is selling Golliwog key rings. Not sure why this is being accepted in this day and age. Pretty despicable.

Visited for a few hours. Nice walk along waterfront. Lots of old dock buildings, mixed with modern. Plenty of coffee and food places. Worth a short stroll up to the shopping centres (2). Seemed to have plenty of carparks, but we walked.

Good for a very pleasant stroll, people watching, a bite to eat and a refreshing pit stop to have a pint or a coffee and enjoy the company of others.

Can't say much about the town centre other than be mindful of you go out there at night. There are a lot of people just sitting down randomly and drinking. However, the waterfront is pretty and had some lovely bars and restaurants.

Christchurch Mansion, located in Ipswich, is a must-visit attraction offering free entry. This 16th-century palace showcases an array of captivating displays, including works by renowned artists Gainsborough and Constable. Visitors can explore the Tudor kitchen and marvel at the collection of Victorian toys and games. The mansion's grandeur is evident in its royal rooms adorned with exquisite chandeliers.
Beautiful Mansion Full of history Went here on a Friday, had a wonderful time. There are about 30 rooms, which are beautifully laid out, with booklets in each room explaining the details and layout. The mansion entry is free. The most interesting part for me was the number of grandfathers clocks, in working condition. The chimes were soothing and very very interesting. You can easily spend half a day here and still want to go back again. Beautiful place, one of the must visit in the area

What a truly magical place indeed. Free entry to all which is remarkable given the scale of building, but recommend treating yourself to the bargain price £2.00 guidebook to learn even more about the rooms, history and content. Every room was a joy to behold, taking you through time. Even the 'new' items bought in 1925 were 100 years old when we visited and I love how the building spans such a long history! Treat yourself to a cake and a drink in the cafe and chat with the super friendly staff who were lovely to talk to. Definitely worth a visit and an essential break from the noise and activity of the town itself!

Beautiful park and mansion close to the town centre yet you wouldn't know it, as it's so quiet and peaceful. A real gem and completely free of charge (although there is a donation box in the mansion should you wish to donate). The grounds are lovely for a walk or picnic, but don't miss out on the mansion itself. There is a lot to see in there, more than you would think, and the volunteers are really helpful and friendly. Free tours are offered twice daily and are really good, our guide gave lots of info and really brought the place alive. You can wander around the mansion and there are booklets in each room detailing what you can see should you wish to know more about the place. There is a delightful little courtyard where we sat and had coffee which was most enjoyable and relaxing. The grounds are spacious and very well kept, great space for children to play and they sell ice creams too. A must visit for tourists and locals alike and entry is all completely free! What is there not to like? Just go and enjoy

WOW. what a fabulous little place. the house is marvellous, a really breathtaking place. i visited with my brother and his two kids, ben and leslie, such cuties. 😊! they enjoyed the woolly trail as it was a fun activity and my brother and i were fascinated by the architecture of the mansion, such a nice tudor building. there was so much wonderful art and i was enthralled by the beauty and talent of all artists. The furniture indeed did too create a historical setting and i really did feel like i’d been whisked back in time! My brother and i really did have such a special day and the staff were so supportive and friendly, so welcoming and it really was the best time. We then ventured into the park which was such a beautiful area despite the english weather and there was an ornate fountain which really helped make the area so delightful. pet friendly so my brother could bring his st bernard’s and there were even ducks in the pond which we fed bird seed to! they were very well natured and if we could come back again for a picnic on a brighter day, i’m sure we would! it was such a lovely day and i am definitely going to recommend to many friends especially in the summer hols! it was free as well which was such a bonus! there was also an ed sheeran exhibit which was very close to my heart as ed is my favourite singer in the world his lyrics are so beautiful. thanks for reading.

I had a fantastic visit to Christchurch Mansion in Ipswich. The history of the house is genuinely fascinating, and the exhibits are beautifully presented. The gift shop is a real highlight—well stocked with souvenirs from Ipswich and Suffolk (perfect for gifts or a little something to remember your visit). There are clean public restrooms on site, and a quaint café serving teas and coffees with a nice selection of cakes and sandwiches. I sat outside in the courtyard at an umbrella table and it was a peaceful, charming spot to take a break. Overall, a lovely experience—highly recommended for locals and visitors alike.

Fun and free adventure to see some neat history. Staff was nice and building well taken care of.
Patrick T — Google review
Parking is free on some streets to the east of the park, then it's a short walk down to the Mansion. This is a great place to visit and the staff are so lovely! The cafe is one of the best I have been to the food is freshly made for you, very well presented, generous and very tasty. My bowl of chips was huge! You need to order condiments when you order your food, which is rather clever as it saves waste and keeps the cafe much cleaner. The Mansion is really interesting and there are booklets in each room to read, I recommend stopping and look at these rather than just wandering around. Lots of paintings and furniture to look at and the staff are happy to have a chat about the rooms.

The New Wolsey Theatre is a modern entertainment venue in a lively town, offering signed, captioned, and audio described shows. With its 400-seat theater and dynamic program featuring drama, comedy, contemporary theater, and renowned pantomimes, the theatre is nationally acclaimed for its quality productions. The venue collaborates with diverse artists and companies to present a wide range of performances including impressive musicals that often feature actor-musicians.
We have seen 2 children's shows here, and we both loved it. The kids' comedy show was amazing. I love this theatre as it's small and not too overwhelming for little ones, and me actually. Parking is super easy either in the spiral car park or the above ground one. They have great half term shows and we are booked in for the dino show next.

The pantomime was out of this world. Amazing talent and costumes. Book for the 2025/26 one!

Incredibly friendly and diligent front-of-house staff. Excellent view from all seats in the auditorium. Our only feedback is regarding the massive amount of sound escaping from the headphones of the patron beside us who was using the audio description service. We heard it all and it was rather distracting. Perhaps some better headphones that don't leak sound would benefit all patrons?

Absolute gem of a theatre. Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely atmosphere. We will definitely return. We watched Noises Off which we laughed all the way through apart from the 2nd act which made me cry with laugh - an absolute 'must see'.

We went during winter and loved it. Great park with Museum and art exhibition. Little cafe for hot drinks and snacks, the playground area great for kids. A few historical monuments to look at and ideal for walking the dog or windy walks.

Ipswich Christchurch Park is a stunning escape in the heart of the city, perfect for nature lovers and families alike. The park features ancient trees, vibrant greenery, and beautifully maintained walking paths that make every visit relaxing and refreshing. Park Experience There's something magical about wandering beneath the grand old yew and chestnut trees, some of which have a rich history stretching back centuries. The information boards are helpful, sharing fascinating details about the oldest trees and the park’s heritage, which adds an educational touch to your walk. Flora and Scenic Beauty The variety of trees is impressive—towering English yews, majestic oaks, and sweet chestnuts full of spiky husks and glossy nuts are everywhere. The autumn colors, fallen leaves, and natural fruit contribute to a truly picturesque scene, ideal for mobile photography enthusiasts. Facilities and Atmosphere The paths are well-maintained and accessible, suitable for casual strolls, walking dogs, or exploring with children. For those captivated by maritime history, the Alfred Corry Lifeboat Museum in Southwold is a must-visit destination. This charming museum showcases the remarkable legacy of the town's seafaring past and pays tribute to the courageous individuals who risked their lives for others at sea. At its heart lies the historic Alfred Corry lifeboat, which served valiantly from 1893 to 1918, embarking on 41 missions and saving 47 sailors during its operational years.
Excellent guides, some awesome stories of what these incredible people did before more modern equipment became available. Always tugs on the heart strings. Car parking is low price and the Lifeboat Station with the duty boat (Atlantic) is in a building nearby.

Southwold Lighthouse, a 19th-century seaside tower, offers visitors the chance to climb a spiral staircase and enjoy panoramic views. The area is known for its seafood, with locally caught fish being a highlight. The lighthouse often has pre-show specials for those interested in pairing dinner with a film at the nearby traditional cinema. Additionally, it's praised for its reliable service and reasonable prices.
I had the pleasure of visiting the lighthouse during the Adnams tour, and it was absolutely fascinating. This thoughtful birthday gift allowed me to explore a piece of history right here in our county, for which I’m truly grateful. The tour, which lasts about an hour, offers incredible insights, though it does involve some climbing—so be prepared for a bit of a workout!
David M — Google review
Excellent tour guide, who was interesting, enthusiastic, and informative. Amazingly clear views are seen from the top of the lighthouse of the town and coastline. Narrow and steep steps have handrails but are not recommended for those who have mobility, heart, or breathing problems ( the guide is a trained first aider) Nice touch at the end of the tour with an Adnams beer or soft drink voucher to exchange at their Sole Bay Inn situated directly opposite.

Fantastic knowledge of the history of Southwold and other Trinity lighthouses by Martin (our Adnams tour guide). An enjoyable hour well spent.
James P — Google review
If you are visiting Southwold this tour is must do. Currently booked through Adnams brewery tours. The tour of the lighthouse has 113 steps, glorious views of Southwold and the coast with a bit of history thrown in. Our guide Bev gave us lots of information and facts about the lighthouse and the various lamps used over the years to keep the light shining. The story of the bakers boy who noticed the light was out and raised the alarm which led to the discovery of the keepers being too ill with Spanish flu to keep the light burning which led to him and his dad keeping the light burning while they recovered. We had amazing weather when we visited so got some lovely views of the town and the sea.

113 steps, glorious views and a bit of history all thrown in. The best story was of the bakers boy who found the light had gone out, discovered the keepers were down with Spanish flu and so with his dad kept the light burning whilst they recovered. We were very lucky with the weather and so got glorious views of the town and sea.

Southwold Pier is a classic Edwardian pier that has been modernized for 21st-century enjoyment. It offers picturesque spots for iconic seaside photos, including a water clock designed by inventor Tim Hunkin. The pier features arcade amusements, shops, and restaurants, as well as the unique Under the Pier show with homemade coin-operated arcade machines. Located near Southwold town center and its sandy beach, the pier provides access to various food outlets and family-friendly attractions.
Lovely time spent along the sea front, pier and town. Pier has an unusual collection of amusement (you need coins - they have a change machine for notes) Great fish and chips shop by the pier with a lovely, young friendly couple working there when we visited. The town is very nice with a tea/coffee cafe that does some tasty and unusual pasties. There is a lighthouse actually in the town, but you need to book ahead for tours. There is also a large, and old church with 17th century graves and beautiful architecture inside and out (even though we're pagan) All in all a relaxed place to visit and relax by the seaside without masses of arcades .

A quintessential British seaside town with lovely Victorian pier, colourful beach huts, a working lighthouse. Excellent high street with very nice eateries. Home of Adnams Brewer. Would highly recommend you visit if your in the area.

A lovely Smallish Victorian pier with easy parking nearby (pay by app is available and it supports a number of different parking apps, this will avoid the queues for the cash payment ticket machine). Entry to the pier is free and there’s a number of small eating establishments on the pier. SO if you fancy the smell of the sea, it’s highly recommended. It’s a bit of a walk into the town after though

Although a bit chilly and windy we had a lovely walk on Southwold Pier. At the very end you can have your picture taken as a pirate and watch the fishermen. Had an excellent coffee and pecan pie in the cafe, which is dog friendly too!

Lots of fun. Quality food and drink and eccentric fun on this well kept pier. Makes a change from the tat you often find on seaside piers. Do try the quirky arcade cum art exhibition for fun. Also don’t miss the cheeky water sculpture.

View from our beach hut rented for the day. Lovely albeit small beach, with plenty of toilets and facilities. Pier is upmarket and well looked after. Small amusements but not dominating. Nice small town centre. Great for a day trip but imagine busy in the summer.

A well kept and upbeat pier. Some wonderful mechanical things - the clock and the sign for ‘Southwold Pier’. Had delicious fish and chips. A windy day but lots of sunshine.

Lovely little pier with lots on it, a gift shop, multiple places to eat and drink and a great view back over the town at the end. Seating booths all along to protect from the wind which is great. Only thing putting me off was how expensive the restaurants were and how busy the arcade was. It's such a beautiful spot though so the busyness was to be expected.

Imposing castle in a beautiful setting. The wall walk gives spectacular views although it was a little scary in the strong winds when we visited..... There is a very good exhibition of the history of the castle and a lovely cafe too
Janice S — Google review
A lovely castle to walk around the high wall. Also a little wander around the perimeter was nice to see it from a different angle. The cafe and museum were both good as well. Not much going on with the inside space of green grass. Also they had repair works in place which prevented us going the whole way round. Its also 100% dog friendly which was great! Even up on the wall.

This is a well maintained castle that you can walk around at your leisure, it is pretty much an access all areas place where you an walk around the walls and the various buildings within that contain static exhibits regarding the history of the castle and the area. Really enjoyed our visit to Framlingham Castle today. Was great to walk the walls, read the history of the castle, walking through the local history museum, have a drink at the cafe and enjoy browsing the gift shop. Loved that there is a currently a Task Master challenge and activities going on. So from the castle walls we could hear hysterical giggles and people competed against their team mates to win the taskmaster trophy and have their photograph taken in the winners photo frame. Well worth a visit. Even better if you are already an English Heritage partron -free entry and discount in the shops.

Lovely few hours spent here walking around the castle and the grounds lovely view from the top going around. Have 2 little exhibition room. We did the guided tour which was good. Not a whole day thing but we had fun

Lovely place to visit and obviously this is the castle that Ed Sheeran has sung about "The Castle On The Hill". We didn't go into the castle, but did walk around and take some lovely pictures and then visit the Two Magpies Bakery which was really good. We had a nice couple of hours out so if you have a bit of free time, it's worth a visit for a leisurely walk and a spot of lunch.
Nikki F — Google review
Due to the high wind, we couldn't do the battlements walk whilst listening to the commentary so the rating is lower than it would have been. Small discount on entry fee as a result but it wasn't as good an experience without being high up. The museum inside has some interesting stuff though. Staff were very friendly & helpful.

Nestled in the charming town of Halesworth, Oasis Camel Park offers a unique opportunity to interact with camels, making it a standout destination in the UK. This delightful park is not just about camels; visitors can also meet an array of friendly animals including donkeys, alpacas, llamas, and even meerkats and lemurs.
We had a very enjoyable day here and the best bit about it was that we were able to bring our little dog with us. It was just the 2 of us and the dog but if you are bringing children there us so much for them to do. I had cuddles with some adorable bunnies and we all had a ride on the train around the park. You can also buy bags of feed which is enjoyed by all animals there, the marmoset particularly like the corn and the lemurs liked the pellets, where as the goats will eat anything. 😂
M — Google review
The camels didn't look too happy or treated extremely well. Family were friendly, the train was included which was nice, as was the mini golf. They let you take dogs in which is a nice touch if you have a dog. The hand washing stations were stocked with soap and tissue with warm water.

My first visit today with family for our daughter's 13th birthday. She had been before and chose to come back here to celebrate. I can now see why knowing how she loves to get up close with animals. Think of this as kinda a huge petting zoo with some extra activities thrown in like crazy golf, a great trampoline pad and optional (but highly recommended!) camel rides!! Huge shout out to Georgia who made our day here extra special. She's a real credit to the park and clearly adores working with the many animals.
Ben W — Google review
A wonderful place that's absorbing and very chilled thanks to the staff. The animals looked well cared for and were happy to pad over to say hello/lighten the food bag we'd purchased at reception. Dog friendly except for the pet's barn. Two friendly resident dogs roam the site, alongside hens, their chicks and cockerels.

Lovely place to visit.... great for a family day out they do loads of things like camel rides train rides petting ad feeding animals at an extra cost but also you can purchase animal food to feed the animals yourselves there's toilet facilities and cafe and gift shop... hand facilities all over to the areas

Disclaimer: we visited end of season while the weather was cold and there had been rain. Having said that we did find this place a little on the tired side. The free roaming dogs are cute and friendly, but not great seeing dog poo while walking about the park. They do say they have the dogs on their website so I suppose you have to expect it. The animals on display look well cared for and the staff friendly. Uniforms would be a good touch so you knew who they were. It is worth the visit and use it or lose it!
Marc L — Google review
Such a lovely family farm! The animals are super well cared for and really friendly. They will come running when they hear the feed bag. There are plenty of handwashing stations, fun activities for kids like camel rides and llama walks, and it is even dog-friendly. My pup loved watching the meerkats and lemur! It is a hidden gem, quiet even on weekends, but it truly deserves more visitors. We will definitely be back and hope this wonderful farm continues to thrive.

Didn't expect much , but was wowed by the enthusiastic family run park. No thrills, it does what it says on the tin stuff that we found genuine warmth, fun and reward from. Enjoyed a 10 minute camel trek too! Thoroughly recommended for 4 hours of fun! The owners make you wish that the bigger places offered some humility and thanks for visiting? Cash preferred as it's a mobile flat spot 🫣

Mid-Suffolk Light Railway

Step back in time and experience the charm of the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway, affectionately known as the "Middy," located in Suffolk. This standard gauge heritage railway was originally intended to support local farming but was never completed. Today, visitors can enjoy steam train rides from Brockford Station throughout the year, stopping at recreated stations along the way.
The Middy is a super volunteer run heritage railway with regular steam days in the summer together with other events and activities. Absolutely worth a visit if you're passing between Ipswich and Norwich on the A140. Also a good starting point for several decent rural/agricultural and village footpath loops, one of which crosses the line between stations.
Tim W — Google review
We had a nice visit to the Middy with the kids on a nice sunny day. The kids had a search around for some pictures on a treasure hunt style activity and got a small gift as a reward, we also had a few trips on the trains and a look round some model railways. We ended our trip having a drink from the carriage bar which was lovely. The Middy is a beautiful little place with some interesting history. The train ride is not particularly long, although it will be interesting to see how this develops as there are plans to extend it. We probably stayed for about 2.5 hours in total. Unfortunately, there wasn't quite enough for the kids to keep them occupied longer than this, but we enjoyed the time that we were there.

I loved the review from Sam Behling he visited and was disappointed that he had to pay admission to use the cafe, what did he expect! You visit for the museum the cafe is there for the visitor not the passer by.. Furthermore his entitled friend sneaked in to use the pub. My review now, it’s a project in the making it’s a great little railway, staff are really chatty and knowledgeable, one volunteer wasn’t exactly knowledgeable so he passed me onto to someone who could. The cafe was good value even factoring in the admission😁

Was staying locally in a cottage in Stowupland within their welcome pack had a leaflet for Mid-Suffolk Light Railway, having checked the website we noticed it was their last open day before closing for the summer season and planned to make a visit, my son loves Railways and trains which MSLR offered a wide variety of rolling stock, When we arrived we were kindly greeted by the front of house staff in the ticket office and told about the end of season event which included some vintage vehicles, live music and morris dancing, the ticket allowed us access to all the site has to offer as well as unlimited trips on the railway, the Aspal station platform was still a working progress which meant we were not able to disembark and see the platform but it was an enjoyable day none the less, Great onsite facilities including a cafe, bar and multiple information displays about the sites history, ample parking for both regular perking and those who require disabled access and toilets

Great time at middi today. Great to hear about the line extension being completed just waiting for that footpath permission being signed off looking forward to extension opening soon hopefully 2025 . New loco on loan smashing . The loco,'s in the shed are progressing on a pace the people working on them are really knowledgable and great to answer questions . Tea room lovely and a real ale bar as well . Really enjoy my visits here

the mid suffolk light railway having now been, i can say there are some great staff that are passionate and some that are not, notes of a few that need better people skills, a guy working the points on 03/08/25, very fussy and condescending as the train was finished for the day, stating " ill get in the way of your shot, if you do not move", it could have been said in a much better way ", The women over charged me for my tickets, when i have a carer with me is not good, i explain and showed my card, i did get a refund but having to explain myself when they knew exactly what they did is not the best, also fyi dont talk about toyboys or weird stuff like that when you are working, that is not very professional, overall the railway had a feeling of sloppiness, heritage railways are not easy but its the little things, i liked the engines, the engine shed, the model shop guy, but noticed the unnecessary health and safety messages repeated every time when boarding the train, because possible suing or being liable etc got old " dont jump out, stay in the train" stick up for yourself, tell them to shove it, people are not going to get out of a moving train i mean its the slowest ride ive been on, crawling along, this feeble cowardly world we now live in where everything is spoilt, so overall maintain and repair the 1800s carriages they need it , lots of wear and tear, the carriages needed brakes oiling, very screechy, clean out the smoke box very sooty, suggestion make the loco run abit faster even go up the line twice at good speed as an idea as it was snailing along, thank you to all the friendly staff good job and very smart.

Absolutely fantastic little railway. A credit to it's volunteers. It is hard work to achieve what we all do to keep railways alive. Keep it up.

Wonderful new year's day here, riding on the train, being entertained by a fantastic mandolin player in the bar made from a converted carriage. Free mince pies appeared too and were offered to all. We were given a tour of the footplate by the friendly volunteers, saw a vintage lamp display and had a marvellous time. What a lovely, friendly place.

This gift shop is amazing, so many gorgeous gifts and very reasonably priced. Staff all very helpful and cafe nice - very yummy cakes! So glad to have found this hidden gem!

Lovely little cafe, great choice of cakes, lovely lunches, lovely staff & you're inside a large giftshop always superbly themed (worth a trip just to see how the shop is decorated as it's constantly changing & a much nicer experience than those big well known superstores!!!) Not forgetting the fab hardware store on the opposite side of the road... what's not to like? Sadly, no windows in the cafeteria😟 but there is an area outside with picnic benches & parasols👍🏻

Cafe staff and food were excellent, entrance beautifully decorated, spoilt by the lack of towels and tissue in the gents. We arrived at 0925 so would have expected the toilets to be serviceable. This is the second time I have had to report this to staff.

Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach is a vibrant amusement park located on the Golden Mile by the beach. It covers a vast nine-acre area and offers an array of attractions suitable for all ages. From thrilling roller coasters to traditional rides, there's something for everyone. The park also features Pleasure Beach Gardens catering to younger children, as well as amusement arcades and various dining options.
My new favourite Amusement Park not in Staffordshire or Lancashire! No ride queues and I went on a Saturday in summer! Granted i was with the group which got an extra 2 hours, but still...
Ripsaw P — Google review
Came today. we paid for a card on entry. Easy to use, and you can top up/check balance in lots of places in the park. Most rides are for young kids, nothing too extreme. The wooden roller coaster and monorail were good. Staff seemed friendly, especially the lady at the entrance. Excellent customer service 👍

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Had an amazing day at Great Yarmouth Beach – perfect for a fun family outing! The soft sand and lovely sea made it such a relaxing experience. It wasn’t too busy, which was a nice surprise, and the atmosphere was great. We enjoyed some fresh fish and chips by the sea – absolutely delicious and full of flavour! The only downside was the number of seagulls (they really love the chips!), but it didn’t spoil the day. All in all, a fantastic spot for some seaside fun. Highly recommended!

We visited here on a Wednesday evening, for the late opening hours, in late July and arrived at half five, meaning we could take advantage of the late evening wristband pricing (£17 for 5 until 9:30). There are also fun cards at £5 or £10 which offer 5 or 10 ride credits and can be topped up inside the park. However suspect the latter are a false economy if you have more than 2 or 3 rides - especially in the evening, as most main rides are 4 or 5 credits. There was a fair size of queue to the ticket booth but it moved quickly and probably only took 5 to 10 minutes to get to the entrance. There is a good range of flat rides and four coasters, with all costers being aimed at family-friendly. The wooden roller coaster is the oldest in the UK and has a brake man riding on the train. While not the smoothest or comfiest ride, it is good to ride a bit of history. The remaining three are Family Star, a short spinning wild mouse and two small kiddy coasters. The flat rides are good variety, with spinning and drops and also a gyro swing. What struck us was that the park was relatively quiet for school holiday season and queues were short. The ride throughput would be increased further if the very slow wristband scanning was not performed - not really sure why this is needed as takes a got 10 seconds to read each one, based on our experience. Food offerings are OK - there is a large hot food stall that does hotdogs (not so good), burgers (better) and loaded fries (decent) amongst other offerings. All in all, worth a visit even in peak summer as really never felt busy and plenty of ride opportunities.
Ian A — Google review
Went as a family. You can get 5 credits to get in and use on one ride if going with a group of kids. The food hall and bar are great. The rides make it more like a smaller fair rather than a pleasure beach like Blackpool but still great.
Gary A — Google review
A Fantastic Day Out at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach! We had an amazing time at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach! There’s a perfect mix of classic rides, family-friendly attractions, and thrill-seeking roller coasters. The historic wooden roller coaster is an absolute must-try – a true blast from the past! The park was clean, well-organised, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the day. Entry with the wristband is great value for money, especially if you’re planning to go on lots of rides. It’s also right by the beach, so we could enjoy the rides and then relax with some fish and chips on the seafront. Plenty of food options, clean toilets, and seating areas made it comfortable for families. Whether you’re visiting with kids, friends, or as a couple, it’s a great spot for some good old-fashioned fun. Highly recommend – we’ll definitely be back next summer!
A J — Google review
I couldn't really find anything to fault here yesterday with three bored kids. Despite it being a Peak Season Sunday all the queues were very short, just a couple of minutes. A little longer for the big coaster but even that was less than ten minutes. Every ride looked to be well staffed, no litter in sight. The guy manning the Dodgems literally couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, he gave the impression he genuinely wanted to be there. Over the course of the day my lads went on about thirty(!) rides each, so they got superb value from their 'all rides' wristbands. The only thing I could ask was for some concessions for Blue Light card holders, other than that, an easy five stars!

SEA LIFE Great Yarmouth is a family-friendly attraction located on the famous seafront of Great Yarmouth. It offers a variety of sea creatures, including blacktip reef sharks, African dwarf crocodiles, and clownfish. Visitors can explore the world of jellyfish in the Jelly Invaders display, observe Humboldt penguins, and walk through an ocean tunnel surrounded by a quarter-million liters of seawater.
Visit the sea life centre at least once a year. We absolutely love it. Lots of information points as you walk around about the animals around you. We particularly enjoy the submarine that you can walk into and see animals much closer, including the sting rays and blue lobsters.
Catherine B — Google review
Ignore what it says online as its says to be there for the time you booked but getting there you get a stamp and are told you can come and go as you please! So this is great if you wanna hear all the talks or go in and out and get a coffee. Place needs a damn good clean!!! But other than that still nice to look around! The talks and feedings were great too!
Natasha P — Google review
My son had a lovely time touching the starfish and little waterfall, and loved the sharks. Staff were understanding of his autism and that was much appreciated, cool octopus there too! Going to take him to see the penguins next time. Prices were better too off season, only £16 pp, and a free ticket for a carer if you're on PIP, so saved £16 too. Overall good activity for kids and adults alike, but the gift shop is very expensive! Avoid at all costs if possible haha! Only a stone's throw away from places to get food and drink too, and right on the sea front, bowling alley on the nearby Wellington Pier and arcades also. Very well situated, also close to Pleasure Beach. I'd recommend it to anyone with kids.
Elvira N — Google review
Walk through tunnel was lovely, good for the kids to see the animals well. In the room with yellow submarine, you were about to previously purchase food and feed the fish. There was a crocodile which you don't always see at sealife centres. Option to touch a starfish too. Nice as you could pay a little extra and it got you entry to the Giant Wheel too! Gift shop is very large, took kids a long time to pick something.
Charlotte N — Google review
Not as big as other Sealife Centre s but still plenty to see and do. The café was reasonably priced and the bathroom facilities were very clean. Ample room to change the baby.
Christine C — Google review
Highly recommended to book ticket online since it has discount for blue light card or student etc. The ticket allowed you to go in and out for a day multiple times. Although I must say this aquarium is not as big as others we had been like London, Newquay, Weymouth and Birmingham. Having said that we enjoyed the tunnel watching, penguin, fresh water fish, amphibians and experience on touching star fish.

Our first visit to Great Yarmouth and to the Sea Life Centre been to Blackpool one years ago. This was a different set up bit smaller but nicely set out with Real Penguins talks were imformative and interesting Tanks clean and tidy enjoyable experience cafe clean and plenty of room with clean toilets. Can re-enter after you have left which is a bonus and makes it good value

Visited the SeaLife centre with my daughter whilst on holiday at Great Yarmouth. Bought the tickets in advance. I did get my hand stamped as they said I could enter the shop and cafe anytime that day up to 3pm. Soon as we entered there was a member of staff waiting to take photos for us to purchase at the end. It was good, not as big as the one in London tho, we saw the penguins 🐧 the sharks, loads of fishes, sea horses, octopus 🐙 (can’t believe they have 9 brains 🧠 and 3 hearts)once we came to the end we did purchase our photos they did have a deal (we got 2 photos 2 magnets and 2 small keyring sized pics for £20) then we stopped off to have a look in the gift shop. Overall it was a nice experience as this was our first time visiting the Great Yarmouth SeaLife. 👍🏻

The park features a Toy Town Mountain with attractions like the Spook Express Kiddie Coaster and Neptunes Kingdom Undersea Fantasy Ride. Visitors can also enjoy a traditional American diner for refreshments.
Small theme park for young children. The rides are very well kept considering their age. It's like stepping back in time but in a good way. I have childhood memories of going on the same rides that my daughter has now had a ride on including the snails.
Kev L — Google review
Been coming here for 40 years, still love it. Snails are still a highlight. It's so small and tightly packed that it's a bit claustrophobic though. Very hard with a wheelchair to get around without bashing into everyone else. That being said, still amazing for the kids.
Steven W — Google review
Really liked Joyland, its not huge but just right for the older kids that can get on by themselves. I do like the token system and like how they give you stickers with your number on it to access your pictures at the end. The time we went wasn't soo busy so was pleasant. Little cramped but otherwise really good, would go again!

Brilliant we all had such fun on the 18 hole pirate crazy golf. It also has facts about pirates on the way round

We visited on a quiet day and most rides were open. We wanted to see the famous Snails Ride for which Joyland is known for and we was not disappointed. There it was stood in glamour, opened in 1949 and still there to it's day. Joyland is a young children's Amusements park with rides just for them. You pay via tokens and entrance is free. You can find a video of our visit on our youtube channel.

Amazing and completely unique family run amusement Park. Suitable for every single age group without exception! No visit to Gt Yarmouth is complete with a ride on the snails. Lots of fun and incredibly nostalgic.
Corine S — Google review
we visited last week, i DID NOT feel the joy guys, We rode the snails, very excited for this, The man operating it was extremely rude. I asked if there was a specific place my daughter should sit & his response was, I don’t know i just work here…snatched the tokens and looked away. Leaving me to scramble into the snail and just figure it out. The vibe was completely off & we left. If you are going to call yourself joyful at least make sure your staff are joyful & care about safety.

Nestled in Caister-on-Sea, just north of Great Yarmouth, Yarmouth Stadium is a thrilling hub for motorsport and greyhound racing enthusiasts alike. This vibrant venue hosts exhilarating greyhound races three times a week—Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 PM—alongside an array of motor racing events including banger and hot rod races.
Really nice stadium to watch motor racing. Great family atmosphere, everyone so friendly and welcoming. Catering facilities top notch for a venue like this, the loaded fries were incredible, burgers tasty. Easy to access, loads of parking. Great day/evening out, even our 9 month old loved the racing.

Always love a bit of banger racing when we are in great Yarmouth. Reasonable price for a family ticket. Lots of parking. Entertaining night out for all the family Friendly , helpful staff. Definitely worth a visit

Wicked fun evening watching the bangers, not much parking but an abundance of space in the area. Toilets weren’t bad to be fair and the price of food and drink was better than I expected! Lots of action, definitely wasn’t boring!
Zach C — Google review
What can I say that the Yarmouth Stadium is definitely worth a visit if you are in Great Yarmouth well worth the price as it around 3 hours of racing bangers, I would say take a chair and food and drinks as cash as the vans around the track only take cash as they all get very busy for food and drinks
Bristolian O — Google review
Went to the Halloween banger racing meeting - what a night out!! Parking next to main building, few quid, good amenties once inside, £50 for family ticket. Loads of places to watch action from. Staff nice. Track walk fun, drivers were absolutely lovely. Kids especially enjoyed the caravan derby, watching them get smashed to pieces!! Definitely worth doing if in the area. Downsides - very expensive low quality hot drinks, snacks pricey (removed a star for this) but you can take your own in to avoid very high cost. Very cold (it is outdoors obviously) so extra layers, thick coats a must. All in all, a brilliant experience and loads of fun
J — Google review
Great night banger racing, only negatives are food vendors outside are cash only and it’s a long walk for toilets if you are watching on the kennels side of the track.

Fantastic evening out. From the minute we arrived we were treated kindly due to having disabled children, they let us in for reduced prices even though they dont do confessions. The manager was lovely and went out of her way to help. Banger racing is great and we go whenever we can. Parking available and even closer to the venue if you have a blue badge. You are charged £2 per car to enter the carpark. Its well managed with Marshalls too.

A superb evening of stock car and Banger racing at a great venue. Parking easy and only £2. If you decide not to sit in the grandstand there is great banked viewing around the stadium with great views. Food etc reasonably priced compared to other stadiums I have been to. Norwich Castle

Norwich Castle, located in Norfolk, England, is a historic Norman site that was built in 1067 at the request of William the Conqueror. The castle has a distinctive cube-shaped keep and has served various purposes over the centuries. It was converted into a museum in 1895 and now houses collections of archaeology, fine art, natural history, and teapots.
To anyone planning a visit, I would strongly advise booking your ticket for the newly refurbished Norwich Castle in advance. This helps you skip the main queue, though you should be prepared for a short wait even with an online ticket. It's well worth it! The newly refurbished Norwich Castle is an incredible place to visit. I was impressed by the exhibits, especially the art from the Second World War, and the beautiful views from the top of the building was beautiful and blown mind. My only concern was with the long queue. I have a card that indicates I have a disability and can't stand for long periods. When I explained this, the first person I asked said they couldn't help. Thankfully, a second person saw my distress and was kind enough to provide a seat for me while I waited. This made a huge difference. Thank you to that helpful staff member. I hope the castle considers better ways to assist people with disabilities in the future.

Newly reopened Norwich castle 2025. Well worth the visit, it's a combination of walking around a historical castle, museum exhibits and artefacts, fine art, natural history and a WW2 exhibit. There are screenplays/shows in the great hall which briefly go over the history of the castle, and there are good views out the windows and across the battlements. All items in exhibits are labelled and described, and there are display boards around the actual castle interior explaining parts of daily medieval life or the significance of certain design/areas of the castle. There are historical arms and armour on display if after pieces for artistic reference. The well is very very deep.
Andrew B — Google review
It was great to see the castle after the recent renovations. It's a fine building with some great exhibits and interactive elements for children. The views from the battlements are great, especially on a clear day. It's a bit pricey and there's no senior citizen discounts, otherwise it would be five stars
Richard M — Google review
What an amazing place right on our doorstep. I've lived in Norwich 10 years and never been to the castle and what a gem of a place this is. I can't say how much it's improved since it's renovation, but wow there's so much to see! From the basement to the battlement they have honestly outdone themselves. We didn't get a chance to see it all sadly as we had two toddlers, but what we did see was amazing and definitely worth the price of admission.
Matt — Google review
I brought my 1 year old daughter here today. We had a lovely couple of hours exploring and taking some lovely photos. My only criticism is that we couldn't get around the whole castle as the lifts were out of order. My daughter was on her trike, and I wasn't prepared to carry her up and down stairs. We explored the museum and what we could of the castle. Plenty of activities for children. Very friendly and informative staff :)

A very popular venue for a wedding ceremony and it's easy to see why! Norwich Castle, recently referbished is a gorgeous wedding ceremony venue. Renovation work was excellent. Museum very good- certainly the Norfolk regiment one. Not into art or taxidermy but if you are there is a lot to see. Videos in the great room are informative. A little disappointed that there are no images of before restoration and the after work- would have been great to know the transformation if never visited prior imo. Well worth a visit.

Exceptional Service - A Truly Memorable Dining Experience! I had the pleasure of dining at the forum pizza express yesterday, and I can confidently say that the service we received from our waitress, Tabatha , was nothing short of outstanding. From the moment we were seated, Tabatha made us feel right at home with her warm and welcoming demeanour. She was not only attentive and quick to take our order but also offered thoughtful recommendations that made our meal even more enjoyable. It was clear that she knew the menu inside and out, providing excellent suggestions for wine pairings and explaining the ingredients with enthusiasm. Throughout the meal, Tabatha checked in on us just the right amount—ensuring everything was to our liking without being intrusive. She had a way of making us feel like valued guests without overwhelming us with constant attention. Her smile and positive energy were contagious, and it truly enhanced the overall experience. What really stood out was her ability to handle a busy dining room with such grace and efficiency. Despite the restaurant being quite busy, she maintained a calm and composed attitude, making sure every guest felt well taken care of. At the end of the meal, we were so impressed with how smoothly everything went. We left not just satisfied with our food, but genuinely impressed by the level of service. Front circle row D seat 💺 29. The peaky blinders show was good. And the view great. The seats have a nice amount of leg room for a theatre 🎭 and it was not too hot 🔥 inside when the show was almost sold out and the tempreture🌡was 30°c + outside. The rows seem well staggered so I think you would have a good view from most seats.

Nice and clean. Without half an hour waiting near ladies room. Drinks served quickly and a little fresh air you can get on a balcony over break time too.

Excellent performance of Hamilton this evening. Acting, staging, choreography, and vocal performances were very impressive. If you haven't seen this - try to book but be quick...there cannot be many tickets left 🎶

Wow, what can I say. I have been to many many stages shows, but this was one of the best productions I have ever seen. Chicago is incredible, amazing, and just awesome. Jeanette Manrara and Djalenga Scott were super stars, fantastic. Sinitta, beautiful, perfect. Darren Day unforgettable. The dancers were just incredibly. As for the band / orchestra, I could listen to them every single night, they were also incredibly. The whole production was just the best. Thank you to Norwich for such a marvellous show. Who needs to go to London!!!

I'm 6'3 but was able to sit comfortably with plenty of legroom in the seat. The show we attended was fantastic with plenty of real rain as one of the special effects! Update. Just seen Les Mis. Wow!

Always have an amazing experience here. Have seen many shows and have more booked. Easy to park and easy access
Sara S — Google review
Packed in like sardines no legroom , unable to see key part of stage despite this being an unrestricted seat. Best to go to the ladies towards the end of the interval as queues at every one at beginning. To be honest they have removed vital aisles and restricted escapeways and every inch of space is crowded with a full theatre. Norwich has outgrown this theatre asa primary venue. Some shows are designed for larger london stages and dont always translate well to a smaller stage.
Fairview — Google review
The staff at the Theatre were so kind and sympathetic. I explained that my wife recently had an operation which meant she may require to access the 'facilities' more often. Despite the show being sold out they managed to shift our seats. They could not have been more helpful. The seating was comfortable with plenty of legroom. The performance of Hamilton was sensational!! All in all a great night out was had by all🤩

Norwich Cathedral

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Norwich Cathedral, a Romanesque church dating back to 1096, is a historic landmark dominating the skyline of Norwich. The cathedral boasts stunning stained glass windows and impressive double-height cloisters reminiscent of Hogwarts. Visitors can admire over 1,000 painted wood carvings on the ceilings and watch peregrine falcons nesting in the spire during summer. The cathedral close surrounding it creates a picturesque village-like atmosphere with cobbled lanes and beautiful gardens.
We visited late on a Tuesday afternoon and found the cathedral quiet and almost empty. Most visitors had departed, but the clergy and some laypersons were busying themselves to welcome parishioners for the 5:30 p.m. Evensong. By arriving late we missed the Cathedral’s free tours (the website shows the last one begins at 3:00 p.m.), so we picked up a welcome booklet instead and did our best to follow the suggested visit order. The nave is magnificent, and we marvelled at how well its strong Norman design had been integrated into the lovely fan vaulted ceiling. Two massive spiral-ribbed columns stand out. Because of the service preparations we were only able to peer into the lovely wooden choir, but we found our exploration of the impressive Presbytery and its four adjacent chapels to be fascinating. Given the time we could only do a cursory exploration of the ceiling’s treasure trove of carved medieval ceiling bosses, but we certainly plan to return to explore them more fully. Practical info: Norwich Cathedral has no entry fee, but a donation is much appreciated. An excellent list of tours, events, dates, and timings is available on the Cathedral’s website. Should one be visiting by car, note there is no parking in the Cathedral Close, but the website provides a recommendation of nearby pay parking options.

This cathedral deservedly made Norwich a proper Christian city when Normans began construction in 1096. It boasts the 2nd largest extant spire of a British cathedral (this iteration standing since 1485). The cathedral doesn’t have a peal (unlike the storied nearby St Peter of Mancroft) for which only 4 stars are given. The church has received a modern hostry and refectory in the 2000s, where modern toilets can be found as well as a three-quarters decent contracted vendor for the café, the Bread Source. The wood and glass structure makes for a pleasant space and a good entrance, where entry is subject to a voluntary donation. The close is also lovely and home to several businesses, a college, and private residences.

Beautiful place and really helpful staff! Staff arent pushy for donations which is great as many places are pushy. Free tours makes visiting very affordable. Would definitely reccommend for half a day/a full day out. We went at 11am on a Wednesday during the October half term and it wasn't busy at all. They had activities like colouring avaliable for children.

Easily the best to look at for stained glass. This place is vibrant!, well lit and all of it accessible. We travel the length of the vou try looking st cathedrals and so far this has been the best one we've seen. The people here are friendly and approachable. Fantastic parking just moments from the cathedral and be sure to keep an eye out for there cat. 10/10 would recommend visiting here.

Absolutely stunning place! 🌿 Norwich Cathedral is one of those spots where time seems to slow down. The moment you walk through the gates, you feel peace and history all around. The building itself is breathtaking — the architecture, the soaring arches, and the beautiful cloisters are simply magnificent. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming. Even if you’re not religious, it’s a wonderful place to reflect, sit quietly, or just admire the craftsmanship and beauty of centuries past. The volunteers and staff are very friendly and happy to answer questions. Don’t miss walking around the peaceful garden and the lovely café nearby — perfect for a quiet cup of coffee after your visit. It’s definitely one of the highlights of Norwich. Highly recommend to everyone visiting the city — a truly magical and inspiring place ✨

Norwich Cathedral is a truly stunning landmark and a must-visit in the city. The architecture is breathtaking, with its soaring spire, beautiful cloisters, and intricate stonework that reflect centuries of history. The interior is equally impressive, offering a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere perfect for quiet reflection. The staff and volunteers are welcoming and knowledgeable, happy to share the cathedral’s rich history. Whether you’re interested in architecture, history, or simply seeking a serene place to visit, Norwich Cathedral is an unforgettable experience.

Unfortunately couldn't spend as long here as would have liked. Understandably but without forethought closed part of this morning for remembrance day. Managed to wonder round inside afterwards and was guided expertly by 1 of the tour guides to the locations of the 2 people's graves/tombs/plots we we're looking for. Glad we went back after remembrance and most definitely worth the £5 each charity donation. The building itself is in excellent condition considering its 900 years of existence.

Beautiful large cathedral, glorious stain glass windows. Dogs allowed. A lovely inner grass area with a surprising maze in the middle. A small shop for souvenirs. It has its own cat which gave the side eye. A very modern brass font as well as the traditional one..lovely grounds to explore. Paix for parking a short walk away.

Elm Hill is a historic cobblestone lane in Norwich, known for its quaint coffee, tea, and book shops housed in Tudor period buildings. The street dates back to the Tudor era and many of its buildings were reconstructed after a fire in 1507. Elm Hill is a major landmark with various shops, galleries, tea houses, and The Britons Arms restaurant.
Beautiful historic street lined on both sides with half timbered Tudor buildings. The charming architecture, cheerful colours and selection of independent shops, galleries and restaurants make this a delightful place to walk through. A historic gem of Norwich, and pleasantly quiet on the February morning I visited.

Pleasant well preserved old road in Norwich situated near the river and the Cathedral. Film crews often use this for historical programs. Worth a visit.
Peter H — Google review
Such a charming and magical street! ✨ Elm Hill feels like stepping back in time — the cobbled street, the old houses with their crooked roofs, and the little independent shops create a truly fairy-tale atmosphere. It’s one of the most picturesque places in Norwich — perfect for a peaceful walk, photography, or just enjoying the beauty of this historic corner of the city. Every detail here feels special, from the ivy-covered walls to the lovely vintage shop windows. If you visit Norwich, don’t miss Elm Hill. It’s beautiful in any season, but especially magical in the early morning or at sunset, when the light makes it look like a scene from an old movie. 🌿💫

Beautiful little street with so much history and surrounded by lovely old tudor buildings. Lots of interesting independent shops and art galleries. Very nice place for a stroll and bit of shopping.

Despite the rain, the magical street was a beautiful and mysterious place to explore, with its colorful charm. I imagine it's even lovelier and busier in the Summer. It's truly a unique spot for a coffee. This place must be visited if you are down in Norwich. It was a delightfully charming day although it was rainy ☔️ ❣️

BeWILDerwood Norfolk is an expansive forest-based theme park situated on the outskirts of Bure Marshes National Nature Reserve. Inspired by local author Tom Blofeld's enchanting children's books, this award-winning adventure park offers a magical experience for families. Visitors can explore treehouses, partake in enchanted boat rides, and encounter captivating characters from the stories. The park welcomes both kids and adults to enjoy activities such as zip wires and jungle bridges.
We went on a Friday in the summer holidays. It was busy but we got there for opening and were able to see everything and do everything we wanted to before closing! Food was simple but affordable and we didn’t have to wait. The staff are superb, friendly, engaging and really helpful! Kerri who was driving our boat that day, was brilliant, kept us all safe, told us a brilliant story and pointed out all the Kingfishers and deer along the route. Highly recommend!
Lorna B — Google review
I highly recommend BeWILDerwood, it’s such a great place for kids (& us adults!). There’s plenty to do, slides, zip wires, adventure playgrounds, mazes, swings, balancing beams & climbing walls. We also really enjoyed lunch here, plenty of choice & reasonably priced. The staff are really lovely & helpful also. We arrived 15 minutes early to queue up & headed straight to the boat which I would recommend, when we arrived back from the boat ride it was very busy!! Definitely a full day of fun!
Laura E — Google review
What a quirky little (by that we mean huge) place! Loved this magical little find! With little ones in tow who love the outdoors- this was absolutely perfect for a blend of adventure, play and some good Norfolk fresh air! The zip line, climbing wall, slides and tree huts kept them entertained for the day- we did eat at the restaurant to warm up, food was good- no complaints and wasn’t a silly price like Lots of the in resort eateries can be at these places. Price to get in is quite expensive but when you get a full day of fun and some very tired children at the end of it, it’s worth it! The boat ride into the park was also very exciting for two youngsters! Bewilderwood- much love from us for an amazing day
Kirsty W — Google review
Great place to take younger children and a giggle or two for adults too. The site is well laid out with a huge amount of climbing and sliding options to contend with. The aerial maze was particularly good and the boat ride around the lake is a must do. Good facilities with food and drink options but also plenty of tables for picnics. Eating whilst the shows are on is a great tip and many people do it as it’s undercover so if a hot day provides shade or a wet day provides sanctuary. I would definitely recommend it for a fun family day out.
Jamie L — Google review
What a fantastic place. I was concerned by the ticket price but it was worth every penny. We got there for opening and it was busy but we went on everything and only had to queue for the boat ride and the bigger zip wire but everything else was easily accessible. The staff were all friendly and helpful and we had a fantastic day. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a fun packed day out.
Kimberley O — Google review
Lots for the kids to do , plenty of picnic tables, food was nice and not too badly priced. Went end of October so was treated to the light walk. Great day out
Tracy M — Google review
Great day with my 8 year old. The various adventure areas are huge and as an adult I was able to take part too. My daughter particularly loved the drop slides, sky maze, and the boat ride with Jade (who is fantastic at their job). Lots of tree cover so would be great on a hot day. Even saw a slow worm!
Mareli G — Google review
Excellent place for kids who love the outdoors! Plenty of activities to get involved in as well as a selection of food places to eat. The sky bridges/climbing frames and slides were fun even for my 3yo. The prices were excellent too and we spent 5hrs there! The staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Majority of the place had paths but there were a few spots that the pram struggled.

East Ruston Old Vicarage Garden is a stunning 32-acre modern garden in Norfolk, designed by Alan Gray and Graham Robeson. It features themed garden rooms such as herbaceous borders, sunken rose garden, woodland garden, Mediterranean garden, and an Arizonian-inspired Desert Wash area. The extensive grounds also include rare species, an apple walk, and a cornfield. This hidden gem offers visitors a unique experience with its diverse landscapes and beautiful vistas.
Wonderful gardens. The creativity is amazing when you realise originally it was just flat arable land. So many different garden rooms, your eye is drawn to many intriguing gaps to go through and explore. Lovely old walls & hedges you really feel as though you are on a journey of discovery. Lovely cafe with lots of outside space to sit & enjoy coffee or lunch. Highly recommend.
Sally M — Google review
These gardens are vast and it's very easy to wander through a hedge into another section and get a bit lost Think Harry Potter goblet of fire maze scene! There are plenty of places to rest but you should get there when it opens at 12 as you'll need the time. The cafe is a bit pricey, cakes are lovely, cheese scones were not but they did give us free cakes and were very good. There are toilets and plenty of plants to buy. Disabled parking next to the entrance in the shade if you get there early. Recommended.
John P — Google review
Lovely garden. Lots to see. Although we were given a map on entry, once in the ground there is no indication were you are. I am sure we missed quite a few areas. It still took us a couple of hours including a stop at the coffee shop where we had a delicious courgette and lime cake.
Catherine B — Google review
Fantastic garden to visit! A real treasure for the eye, so much to see and beautifully done. I have been twice, and each time the owners were working in the garden and very happy to chat to you. There is a lovely coffee shop on site, too. This is one of the best gardens I have visited.
Jill K — Google review
We've been coming to Norfolk for 15 years and only have just been given a recommendation to come here. But I'm so glad we have. What beautiful gardens, built up over 50 years with obvious love and in-depth knowledge of horticulture from the owners. There is so much to see. Just when you think you've seen everything, you find another nook or cranny bursting with colour and fragrance. There are lots of seated areas, either to sit and rest or just take in the breathtaking surroundings. The entrance and exit are adjacent to the tea room, so the choice is there is to either fuel up before your walk round or relax afterwards. We shared a pot of tea with the apple crumble cake, which has to go down as one of the best cakes I've had at any tea room. It is very reasonably priced and a must for any keen gardeners visiting the area. You can even purchase plants from their shop before you leave.
Jacqui S — Google review
Our first visit here. Absolutely brilliant. The planting is beautiful. So many layers of different textures, colours, and scent. The eye wonders from the high trees down to the rambling plants and every pathway teasing you to walk down to find out whats around the next corner or through that little gap you spied into the next section. The buildings and structures nestle into the planting seamlessly unlike the fountain that unashamedly stands out high and proud making noise pretending to be a waterfall to steal your eye away from the plants. There are ponds and pools filled with plants and fish. There is a dry river bed desert themed garden. There's an orchard. Long high hedged grass areas with focal points of statues or arch ways to draw you in. Woodland walks. Alpaca and guineafowl. You will definitely be ready for a piece of cake and a pot of tea at the tea room after exploring ready to recharge for more exploring of all the things you've missed first time round. The gardens are accessible to all there are wheelchair and mobility scooter pathways and ramps to help you enjoy the gardens. There are toilets on site too. Plenty of parking too. No dogs are allowed here and no picnics are allowed in the grounds either. When I read the no picnics bit I though that was a negative then after walking around the gardens I could see that there are few places you could sit to have a picnic and also it would attract litter and mess and require litter bins ect that would ruin the views so do as we did and enjoy a sit down in the tea room or on the outside tables and chairs. The public loos are basic and there was a wait as there aren't many, something to keep in mind. They are fit for purpose though And your not here to look at the toilets are you? This is a place we'd definitely visit again and I'll be encouraging people I know that are in to this to definitely give it a visit.

Really outstanding gardens! A really special place to visit. Lots of variety and the perfect size to spend an afternoon exploring. Honestly has to be one of the best gardens in the country. We felt the cost was a bit steep before going at nearly £15 per adult, but we see now that it's worth every penny and after speaking to some friendly regulars are now looking at getting a seasonal pass, which is actually really very good value.

The Happisburgh Owls tourist attraction offers an exceptional animal encounter, highly recommended by reviews. Visitors can enjoy a unique experience of having tea while holding owls, which is both entertaining and educational. Sandra and Darwin, who manage the facility, have a remarkable bond with the owls, evident in how the birds respond to them. Each owl showcases distinctive personalities that add to the charm of the experience.
I had a great time here - I got a voucher for my birthday so I didn't know what to expect. Our hosts were very knowledgeable and passionate about looking after the owls and we had some very interesting conversations throughout the day. We were able to stay for as long as we liked and we're made to feel totally at home. The owls are clearly well looked after and loved.
Kris B — Google review
I simply wish I could give more stars, 5 simply isn't enough for Happisburgh Owls! My partner bought me this experience as a gift for my birthday and it was easily one of the best days I've had! Darwin and Sandra are simply wonderful and down to earth, so so lovely to chat to throughout the day and brimming with knowledge. All the owls are beautiful, treated with the utmost care and as Sandra mentioned to us during the day, are essentially her children. I'm not sure the price as was a gift, but I'll be paying whatever it is to bring my family next year. You simply cannot have this same private experience anywhere else. If you love owls or birds in general, you will 100% love this! Cannot wait to visit again!

I arranged for a visit to celebrate my Wife's birthday and our 5th wedding anniversary and it was an unforgettable experience. Darwin was an absolutely fantastic host and very knowledgeable about a subject that he is obviously very passionate about. The real stars were of course the owls, Laser really won our hearts, he is incredible and my wife felt a real connection with him similar to his connection with Sandra that we were so privileged to witness. We couldn't have been looked after any better and we will definitely be returning, thanks guys!

We had a lovely afternoon with Sandra and Darwin who shared a magical day with us and their amazing collection of owls who were friendly and calm with our children. They made us feel at home and taught us lots of interesting facts and information which we will treasure for many years to come. Well worth experience all round amazing cake and coffee also supplied which was very tasty 😊

We visited on Monday and had a wonderful experience. Sandra and Darwin spent hours teaching us about the owls and introducing us to them individually, giving us the opportunity to hold them, take photos and learn about the different species they have there. The owls are kept in beautiful, clean aviaries and the care they receive is obviously outstanding. The passion of Sandra and Darwin for their owls was really evident. We were made so welcome, treated to drinks and cake throughout our visit and given plenty of time to ask questions and interact with the owls. Highly recommend supporting Happisburgh owls through visiting - especially as the whole cost of entry goes towards caring so well for the owls.

Sandra and Darwin are brilliant, lovely people! Felt very welcoming from start to finish. I come nearly every year and it just feels like another home to me. This recent visit, I brought my two girls with me and they loved it! Darwin and Sandra was very good with them! It’s so nice to get up close to the owls and see each of their personalities ☺️

We were on holiday in the Manor Caravan Park in August and it was on their Facebook page that they were having an open day on the Sunday we were there. It was their first ever open day so we didn't know exactly what to expect. What nobody expected was for the local press to find out about it and advertise it in the paper. As a result, when we got there at about 11 o clock there was a queue of about twelve people. The lady on the gate was very apologetic because no-one was expecting it to be so popular and as a result there was a bit of a delay. After a twenty-ish minute wait we paid our £5 entry fee (per person, it would have been value for money at double that). We were introduced to a charming young man by the name of Darwin who would be our host/guide for the tour. We were shown around the sanctuary's "family" of owls, they are so highly regarded by those who look after them. Each owl has a different story as to why it's in there and each one has its own personality. The depth of knowledge in all of the staff is astounding. The reason for the open day was to help raise funds for the feed for the owls, the price of frozen mice etc. has skyrocketed due to the energy crisis/COVID and to raise awareness of the sanctuary itself. They mainly do owl experiences where you can spend time with the owls, handling them and getting to know their stories on a one to one basis. Sandra and the staff also take the owls out into the community, to fairs etc. but one of the most fascinating things they do is take them around the care homes and hospital/hospices in the area like other places use dogs and cats. Apparently the reaction from the residents is amazing. I hope this hasn't put Sandra and the other staff off doing something like this again, it was a fantastic experience for the wife and I and we're thankful that we were there when it happened. Good luck to all at Happisburgh Owls, we will be back.
