Trondenes Church is a historic Viking church dating back to 1108, featuring a beautiful interior and situated in a stunning location. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque surroundings and may even catch a glimpse of the northern lights. Brought my daughter here for an Easter Sunday. Asked if the priest could baptize her with the other children during the mass but apparently it wasn’t appropriate so I don’t know what they are doing here, but it’s not God’s work. It’s a nice museum but it’s run by a bunch of charlatans that do not understand anything about what the church should be. Stay away if you appreciate anything holy! There are plenty of other places to visit.
Aspen Z — Google review
Rather plain looking Medieval church built since 14th century. I did not see inside , it was closed. There are many headstones in the surrounding cemetery. There is a monument for Russian prisoners of wars died during Nazi occupation. The church is on the water edge and it is serene and beautiful.
Somkietr R — Google review
Very pretty church with a scenic walk (or quicker bus ride)!
Skpe — Google review
Nice, quiet. Beautiful views. Easy walk during snowy day today.

A very peaceful Christian church, backed by the sea, with beautiful scenery, is the best place to travel and relax
Liya G — Google review
Lovely church but as a non believer, I did not really want to waste time sitting through a service, whish was a mandatory part of out tour. Would have liked more information on history of the church and it's fortification, which is unusual for a church.

We visited today from the Hurtigruten boat with about 100 people. The priest led a short bilingual service for us. It was very special. Thank you.

Trondenes Historical Center

Mentioned on

Heritage museum
History Museums
Trondenes Historical Center offers a fascinating journey through the region's history, with exhibitions showcasing the timeline of the area. While some displays are only in Norwegian, many are in English. Visitors recommend bringing a translator to fully appreciate the texts. The center features artifacts from medieval times and the Viking Era, including a realistic depiction of a Viking Lodge at the medieval farm. One highlight is the impressive stave church on site. However, there are some drawbacks to consider.
It's an eye-opener for sure seeing the WW-II damage wrought on the city during those times. But the artifacts in the museum provide an insight into the lives of native Norwegians.
Harika K — Google review
Located in the Northern Lofoten town of Harstad , this historical center and the adjacent church and it’s cemetery are a very unique combination of Viking history and the World War II Prisoner of War camp for the Russian soldiers captured by the Nazi Germans occupying Norway . Also added bonus is one of the oldest Viking Churches in Norway .
Scott H — Google review
Very dark inside so it's difficult to read the descriptions. However, outside was very interesting with a Viking lodge and some branch fencing. Only $17 US for seniors so it was OK.
Jennifer E — Google review
Interesting exhibitions showing timeline of history in the region. Some signs etc only in Norwegian but a lot in English. Take a translator with you to read these texts. Some of the monitors were not working which was a pity. Admission price is a bit high (NOK190 for adults - seniors NOK170). The farm is interesting for kids but you do not see too much of great interest except perhaps for the stave church if you have not seen one before.
Martin B — Google review
Quick bus ride from central bus station. The museum has very comprehensive displays of Harstad’s history from 500 through WWII. Good video about the medieval church that was built here and was one of the largest in the area (you may need to ask the staff to start it for you). There's a lot to see in the museum since it covers such a long period; nicely laid out with combination of objects, recreations of scenes, and excellent descriptive signage. Although the section about Harstad's WWII role revealed a little known (at least to most Americans) aspect of Norway's war experience, I learned a lot about the early, early development and then Harstad's role as a trading/fishing center. Very good museum. There’s a recreation of a medieval farm village next to the museum so I wandered around there - a stave church, sod house and rooster enclosure. Then I walked to the medieval church (5 minutes away), which unfortunately closed so I’m glad I watched the movie at the museum. The hours are usually 11 am - 2 pm, so you have to plan it carefully.

Beautiful and clean. All welcome - just be respectful if you're visiting from outside Norway and enjoy the pools (different temperatures to choose) slide, jacuzzi caves, lazy river and more. Thanks for a wonderful afternoon swim and explore today.

The bathroom was not it had piss all over the toilet and the ground please fix it + when I orded it took me about 30 minutes to get my food, the walls are too old and service was slow but the rest was nice I recommend to add a fun long slide. 3 ⭐️
Yonas A — Google review
Grottebadet is placed in an underground cave, what makes it special and different than other water parks. There are different pools to choose between in Grottebadet. For example the racing pool (which also has a 1, 3 and 5 meter jump), the hot pool, or the normal big pool with a big slide and waves. If you are hungry you can also buy food in the small restaurant which is placed next to the big pool. The prices are a little bit high, but that is normal. It is a great place to visit with your family at any day of the week.
Adrian B — Google review
Old pool, mold on the walls. Persistent smell of chlorine. This place needs major repairs. I do not recommend.
Оlha H — Google review
It is a unique place for swimming, man made cave like. I just hope they allow people to bring their own food since the cafe is too expensive and kinda unhealthy.
Cherzbrz — Google review
Very nice water park, a good way to both relax and having fun with friends or family! Watchout though, the closing time is 20.00 but they will take you out around 19.30 to do the cleanings. The staff anyway is very polite and nice and the location in an underground cave is very impressive!! If you go there late you can pay only the evening ticket which is around 95 nok.

A very good story about SAMI people trough the years, no matter what they will stay united, a reineer soup and walking with the reineers was perfect! THANKS
Paula V — Google review
We had lots of fun at the farm and the owners are caring a lot about their reindeers. Our Guide told us many stories about the saami culture and sang beautiful traditional songs as well as a saami style happy birthday for a friend of me. Thanks for the great experience!
Henning K — Google review
Super lovely and friendly owner. We came there quite early, and she offered for us to wait until the guided tour and feeding of the reindeers started, but we unfortunately couldn't wait as we also had a boat tour booked in Bleik. Reindeers look lovely though and there are two very cute dogs on the property. Don't make the same mistake as us and allow enough time to get the full experience there!!
Simone A — Google review
A fascinating insight into the Saami way of life and culture. We enjoyed listening to the stories, eating home-made reindeer stew, and meeting these wonderful animals.

This is the best museum I’ve ever been to that’s based on a writer. If you haven’t ever read Hamsun, this will make you want to read Hamsun. The staff are also super friendly and incredibly willing to answer any questions you may have.

Fantastic environment Exciting to be at the arctic circle Great landscape We were lucky to have good weather and not to busy because offseason Decided to explore the center / not too interesting Still good if you need toilet and/or want to have a coffee We decided to make some pictures of the indicators and made some great hikes at the artic circle Recommended

A large souvenir shop, with a café. Lots of different Norwegian products; T-shirts, caps, sweatshirts, children's clothes, etc. The outdoor terrain is amazing. There were trails in every direction where you could have gone hiking.
Kirsi S — Google review
Like the place (visited in July), recommend to stop. Inside the center, there are a lot of Norwegian souvenirs 🫶🏼
Nancy — Google review
The Arctic Circle Centre is an excellent place to stop during a long journey. Although the prices of the items are a little high, my Norwegian husband didn't find them so. The baguette with reindeer meat was something special, and the staff are exceptionally friendly.

Awesome pool for a visit with our kid on a weekday. It was very empty and clean. Nice pools, including a wave pool.
Marten K — Google review
Very nice swimming pool, really warm, great facilities including the pool and aqua play. The toilets weren't clean enough. Although all the staff were very friendly, nice and helpful, one of the body guards was very silly and intrusive. She was a young lady, and she was looking at us all the time. Even when we are out of the pool. with sharp and ridiculous looking and unjustified. It was very ridiculous that made us leave and I think we will not come back again
Ashraf M — Google review
Just going for swimmingpool. Loks Nice place at swimming area. Shower are ok. You need to bring your own soap for cleaning. I am used from Iceland that soap is in shower so everyone goes clean to swimmingpool. I was lucky someone offer me his own soap when I asked where soap should be. Not much people there on Sunday. Would recommend for families with children.

Incredible museum – even for non-aviation fans! Wonderfully curated with so much attention to detail. Full of fascinating history, not just for plane enthusiasts. A truly memorable experience – absolutely worth a visit!

This is one of the best museum I ever visited. HUGE positive surprise! 100% recommend. Maker sure you have at least half a day because it is not small! Interesting even if you aren’t into aviation.

Waoo ! This place is a state of the art of Aviation museum. This is a must see. The preservation of the machine is incredible, the scenic impressive, very well documented. Well done for such great achievement 👏🏻👍🏻
Frederic O — Google review
The museum is amazing. I am an airline pilot myself and must say I was amazed, especially the military aviation section. The U-2 Dragon Lady, one of my all-time favorite was a huge surprise to me! There is really nothing to complain about. I did notice in the civil aviation section that the dates were a bit out of order in terms of following it chronologically (the dates were correct), and I also noticed a complete lack of mention of Santos Dumont, the first pilot to start and land a self-propelled aircraft. Be that as it may, I’d still rate it 100%
Giani P — Google review
Great museum. So many planes (!), but also so much more. From early flights and myths and spectacles; to commercial and military... All fascinating. Give it plenty of time. 3-4 hours of wonder; a cafe; and great guides. A joy. Thank you.
Nicole M — Google review
Brilliant museum at a reasonable price would highly recommend, wasn’t expecting the size and variety of items particularly from ww2
James G — Google review
Excellent museum. There’s a range of brilliant exhibits on military and civil aviation, and you can climb the control tower which gives a lovely view over Bodø. I spent 1/2 hours here but could’ve spent more. Costa 195 NOK for an adult and it’s worth it.
Andrew G — Google review
Visiting the Aviation Museum in Bodø became an unforgettable experience, filled with knowledge enrichment. The museum astonishes with its scale and diversity of exhibits. Walking through the spacious halls, you find yourself surrounded by a vast number of airplanes and aviation technology, each telling its own unique story. The museum displays aircraft from different eras, starting from the first aviation pioneers to modern military and civilian aircraft. The level of preservation of many exhibits is particularly impressive, allowing one to understand and appreciate the technical achievements of different times. The museum also offers unique opportunities for learning and entertainment, including simulated flights and educational programs. This makes it an ideal place for family leisure, where both children and adults can find something interesting and informative. The Aviation Museum in Bodø is undoubtedly a place worth visiting. It offers an extensive collection that amazes with its scale and diversity, and provides deep knowledge about the world of aviation. It's a place where history meets modernity, creating a unique and inspiring adventure for curious minds of all ages.

Thank you for the great experience of climbing the Svartisen Glacier. This day will remain unforgettable for all of us! On the one hand, the beauty and on the other hand, the drama of the melting glacier. Thank you for showing us this with so much joy and passion!
Björn W — Google review
We had a very disappointing experience with the Svartisen Glacier trip organized by Meløy Adventure. We booked this trip a month in advance and were looking forward to a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Unfortunately, it turned into a frustrating and poorly managed ordeal. We arrived at the designated meeting point on time, only to find that there was no guide present. After contacting Meløy Adventure, we were told the guide would be at the harbor. Trusting this information, we purchased ferry tickets out of our own pocket (not included in the original booking) and waited at the harbor—still no guide. After multiple phone calls and further confusion, we were finally informed that no guide would be coming at all. In return, we were offered alternative activities like canoeing, e-bikes in Glomfjord, or an eagle safari. These suggestions felt more like a last-minute patch-up than a real alternative—especially since we had specifically come here to visit the glacier. The only thing we took away from this experience was disappointment. We sincerely hope to receive a full refund for the trip itself—though even that doesn’t include the added cost of ferry tickets we shouldn’t have had to buy. Overall, we cannot recommend this trip or company based on our experience.
Paulina W — Google review
We had the RIB ride to Rødøy. Except for the hike which was amazing, our guide was super friendly, added interesting facts along the way, and gave us extra tips for the rest of our trip. I highly recommend going on a trip to Rødøy with them!
Shachar N — Google review
Put together a super three-day adventure tour along the beautiful Helgeland coast. Safe navigation and super local knowledge meant that we had maximum use of the time, with little waiting. Great climbing on Rødøyløva, Gin tasting atMyken, gun shooting in Ørnes, trail cycling, Rib riding, and a fabulous climb on the Blackice (Svartisen). We also had a great overnight stay in Glomfjord, where we took sauna and swam in the sea with eagles around us. Recommends everyone to use Meløy Adventure (Øyvind), to plan your next adventure.
Lars-Petter Ø — Google review
No show and terrible communication We had booked a glacier hike for two on Svartisen for Monday, August 4, with a scheduled meeting time at 9:15 AM. Unfortunately, the tour was canceled over the phone at 9:28 AM — after we had already boarded the ferry. We completely understand that weather conditions can lead to cancellations. However, the way this situation was handled was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. 1. We arrived at the ferry terminal in Holandsvika at 9:15 as agreed, but there was no guide present. At 9:28, while already on the ferry, we received a call from the tour company saying there might be issues due to rain and high water levels near the glacier. We were told to wait for an update in 30 minutes, as there was a chance the hike could be adjusted. Based on this, we stayed on the ferry. 2. We disembarked and walked towards the glacier. No follow-up call came after the promised 30 minutes, so we called them ourselves. We were asked whether it was windy by the glacier — only then did we realize that the guide wasn’t even at the glacier and that the tour was effectively not going to happen. We had to ask directly whether the tour was canceled to finally get a confirmation. 3. That afternoon, we tried calling several times to reschedule or request a refund, but no one picked up, and we never received a call back. My partner had to call from their phone to get a response. Canceling a tour right at departure time without any staff present at either the ferry or the glacier, and while already knowing the tour would likely not proceed, is simply not acceptable. A call just five minutes earlier could have saved us the ferry tickets and the trouble. Letting us believe the tour might still happen and then going silent with no response to calls is extremely unprofessional. We are still awaiting written confirmation that we will receive a full refund for this trip and we are contacting the Consumer Cancel to file a complaint. I can see from a previous review that this isn’t the first time that this has happened. It is simply an unacceptable way to manage a business and I cannot recommend that you use them.
Tristan H — Google review
A very frivolous approach. The glacier tour was arranged very far in advance, the entire tour of Norway was set up to see Svartisen. After reaching the ship, we call MeløyAdventure, we are informed that the guide is waiting on the ship, of course there was no guide. The whole day was ruined, a big disappointment with the company's approach. I do not recommend
Maciej W — Google review
We had a great day with our guide Ulrik on Svartisen glacier! He is a very knowledgable guy, and explained a lot about the glacier and the surroundings. The tour was tailored to our liking as we were just with two. We had nice convesations about generic stuf in Norway and he tipped us to visite a bakery in Lom. Great tip Ulrik! Thanls for the great experience! Amanda and Marc
Marc K — Google review
I would advice against using this company. We had booked a 7 hour glacier hike, but the guide never showed up, cancelled the trip late, so that we were already on the ferry to Svartisen. He let us believe that the trip may still be happening for a long time, then eventually cancelled when asked directly 3 hours later. He’s not answering the phone so we’re not sure we are getting our money back. We are taking this to the Norwegian consumer council.

Austerdalsisen

Glacier
Nature & Parks
Mountains
(Translated by Google) The road to Austerdalsisen was not easy. We tripped over fallen logs and branches, jumped over streams (we later crossed them)… never giving up on the goal. Only our trekking shoes and a third of our calves, which were mercilessly drowned by the local swamps, gave way. The forest ended and the terrain changed. We started (about another 3 km to the destination) to climb the rocky surface. On the left side we passed massive rapids and waterfalls flowing from the glacial lake. We realized how small and powerless we were against the forces of nature… and we still didn't know what was coming next in this untouched wilderness. We continued (jumped) along the red-colored rock formations… an unreal landscape that was once covered by a glacier. We reached Austerdalsvatnet lake. Here the tongue of the glacier was shown to us in its full beauty. We reached the Austerdalsisen slide. I cannot describe the feeling we experienced. The gentlemen pulled out a Tulamorka (bleeeee, I don't normally drink it) and scraped some ice from the glacier into the shots. We tapped and looked down at the huge, multi-colored mass with complete humility. (Original) Cesta k Austerdalsisen nebyla jednoduchá. Klopýtali jsme přes padlé kmeny a větve, přeskakovali potoky (později už jsme jimi procházeli)… nevzdávali se cíle. Vzdaly se pouze naše trekové boty a třetina lýtek, které nemilosrdně utápěly místní bažiny. Les skončil a terén se změnil. Začali jsme (cca další 3 km až do cíle) stoupat po skalnatém povrchu. Po levé straně jsme míjeli mohutné peřeje a vodopády, stékající z ledovcového jezera. Uvědomili jsme si, jak jsme proti přírodním silám malincí a bezmocní… a to jsme ještě nevěděli, co bude v této nedotčené divočině následovat. Pokračovali (poskakovali) jsme dál po rudě zbarvených skalních útvarech… neskutečnou krajinou, kterou kdysi pokrýval ledovec. Dostali jsme se k jezeru Austerdalsvatnet. Zde se nám v plné kráse ukázal jazyk ledovce. Dorazili jsme až ke splazu Austerdalsisen. Nedokáži popsat pocit, který jsme prožívali. Pánové vytáhli Tulamorku (blééé, normálně ji nepiji) a do panáků naškrábali trochu ledu z ledovce. Ťukli jsme si a s naprostou pokorou shlíželi na tu obrovskou, různobarevnou masu.

(Translated by Google) On the way to the starting point you will regularly find signs "P Svartisen". When you get there, you find that the parking lot is closed and there are no boats. You can park on the street beforehand, but expect a few campers there. The path from the "parking lot" on the street to the boat launch is about 2km on a gravel road. From there it's about 4km along the lake and then another 3km to the tongue. We went there by bike, which is highly recommended for the route to the boat dock. There was/is a campsite at the boat launch that is closed. Everything looks pretty run down. Will it open again? The path along the lake is overgrown and extremely (!) muddy. You're more likely to wade than hike. We are by no means fans of tourist boats, but in hindsight we would have taken the boat (if it was running). Once you get to the end of the lake, the path becomes dry and rocky. You are in a beautiful glacier landscape with rushing water and a great glacial lake. There is a small shelter within sight of the tongue. Now anyone who has ever seen a glacier will be a little disappointed. It's still nice, but in my opinion not worth the effort and the terrible muddy path. You can trudge back again...

Visited the touristic center in Mo i Rana and had an awesome experience! The girl at the desk was the cutest and friendliest person I've ever met. Havmannen

Sights & Landmarks
Sculpture
Havmannen, also known as the Man of the Sea, is a striking sculpture by Anthony Gormley located in Mo Rana. The sculpture stands with its back to the town, gazing out over the fjord and creates an eerie presence in the waterfront. Visitors can enjoy great views through a glass panel and relax on built-in recliner sun loungers while taking in the scenery. The area offers a beautiful coastal setting and is considered a perfect spot for witnessing the northern lights.
The sky was perfect for pictures.

A haunting Anthony Gormley statue looking out to sea from Mo I Rana. There’s a glass panel to allow for great views, with some Norwegian inscriptions. If you get here earlier in the day, there are some built in recliner sun loungers which would be great to catch some rays. There are other seating options too, should you need a driving break like us before heading to the Arctic Circle centre! @heightofeurope 🇬🇧> 🇳🇴 > 🇪🇸 There are no toilets nearby.

The cave is a hidden jems of Jämtland. This was amazing experience and we really liked it. The fika and lunch was really luxury and local based food. August gave us lots of information about that area. We all friends really enjoyed it. We are looking forward our next trip there again in summer for arctic fox and beaver safari. Probably we will come back again for the cave in winter to see some ice formation.

Great rafting activity on our way south. It is a highlight in our trip!! We had a great time and a lot of fun. The owners and our guide Vetle are very professional. The river is a combination of rapids and calm waters. I was afraid of the water temperature, but with the equipment they provide, it is absolutely fine. Thank you for this great experience!! 😀

Our group were lucky to kayak 7 days of grade 4 with the calm and kind River North team, who guided us across the exceptional offerings which Trofors and surrounding areas had to offer. Mariann, Joe, Rhys and Zach fostered a sense of confidence and safety whilst encouraging each of us to push to the upper end of our comfort zone. The team were both flexible and attentive to detail to make each day special (e.g. with media, swapping our boats to play boats to make sections more challenging, doing shuttles at different sections for members with varying energy levels). Grateful for the week we received and hope to be back soon.

Laksforsen is a stunning waterfall known for its breathtaking views and serene atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy a meal at a nearby restaurant while taking in the magnificent scenery. The area offers a cozy and inviting ambiance, making it an ideal spot to relax and appreciate the natural beauty. Although the food may be considered somewhat pricey and the portion sizes moderate, the overall experience of dining with such an incredible backdrop is truly memorable.

Watching the power of this wide cascade is impressive. You can walk down to the cliffs in front of the waterfall being smoked by water droplets, admire it from the restaurant terrace or see it from above to the left of the well stocked store. Fly fishing is going on and if you are lucky you can see a salmon mounting the salmon staircase.

Meh, if you pass by sure go and stop. If you have to go more then 5 minutes out of your way then don't bother. Yes to do see a small 'waterfall' but the 'path' down is not really a path and the view is not that great. Sure n interesting location to eat but no more then that.

(Translated by Google) Must say this was a fantastic church from the early 13th century. Having only read the info sign at the car park, I was really curious about what was inside. The rumor says, or, the info sign says, that the church is built on three levels. Which is probably very rare. I don't know what three planes means. 3 floors? Possible. Other rumors say that Norway's largest Mausoleum can be found in the church. Young people in the 60s sneaked in through a small window, as part of a test of courage. The mausoleum can be visited by seeking out a guided tour. Talking. 3 etasjer? Mulig. Andre rykter sier at Norges største Mausoleum finnes i kirken. Ungdommer på 60-tallet snek seg inn gjennom et lite vindu, som en del av en modighetsprøve. Mausoleumet kan besøkes ved å oppsøke guidet tur. Snakkes.

The Petter Dass Museum, located in Alstahaug south of Sandnessjoen, is a stunning showcase of avant-garde architecture and offers a fascinating insight into the life and work of the medieval Norwegian poet Petter Dass. The museum is situated amidst breathtaking granite surroundings, with pleasant grounds that include a walk to the lake, church, cemetery, grass-roofed buildings, and picnic benches. It holds great historical and architectural significance and boasts knowledgeable staff.
Beautiful views, cafe and Museam. Well worth a visit of you're in the area.
Callum M — Google review
We stumbled across this place while driving the Kystricksveien. As we are British atheists we skipped the museum as the religious poetry would probably be wasted on us. However, I was blown away with how they had carved out the granite to fit the museum in between. The stone is just stunning and it's amazing to think of the work involved to do this. The grounds were also very pleasant with a walk to the lake, church, cemetery, grass roofed buildings and picnic benches. The cafe was also great, with a nice view of the water and good selection of cakes, that the staff helpfully talked us through. The lunch menu also looked good.

I am very happy each time I come here where my great great grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousin rest in peace. The fact it's where the Poet Peter Daas was a Priest does not matter to me one bit. It's very serene, and beautiful right on the North Artic Sea.

So glad we booked. After driving for a number of hours we stopped in for 3 hours of walking, animals, food and some fun family orientated rides and attractions that our daughter really enjoyed. The park isn't huge, but that means you can manage to walk it easily in a few hours, although we could also have spent longer. We saw a few of the animals, but we late for the feedings. We had a snack at the restaurant and the food was good and relatively fast. There was hand disinfectant at every station and everything was clean. Some rides were closed due to Covid19, which was a bummer, but better to be safe. If we are ever passing by again we will definately stop. Well worth the visit.

Nice place for children in the age 3+. Plenty animals and activities. Even if it consumes some money to spend a day there for a family, it is a memory that children remembers. Some activities has to be paid for extra, in addition to the entrance fee, like the Zip-line (photo), the climbing area and the internal shuttle train. The crash-boats were fun, but there was also a lot of people waiting for thos, so expect some waiting there. Also the downhill carting/roller coaster was fun for the kids, but might not be something for those below 4years old. The day we were there, it was more than 30deg temperature...

Fantastic cheese and ice cream. It's wonderful to enjoy one of the farm's many ice cream flavours in their beautiful farm yard during the summer season. Worth a visit on it's own!

This is the place with the worlds best cheese 2023, the Nidelven blue. Amazing and worth a visit at the farm shop with a lot of goodies.

A lovely place with very nice and good service. The selection of food and drinks is very interesting and good. I enjoyed the food a lot and it's worth the money. The area is also very beautiful and definitly a highlight in the Gyldne Omvei.

Idyllic farm, café and store situated along the “gylden omvei”. Serves delicious ice cream and other home made items that you can eat right there or take home. Highly recommend.

Hegra Fortress

Impressive and well kept fortress telling loads of history. Long tunnels to explore. Lovely nature around, so a good walk for the dog too. Was fun even for our 12 yo on a rainy day.

Beautiful & free to visit. We went outside of the opening hours and it was able to visit. It’s huge and it had some nice hikes, but the destinations of the walks are not really worth the walks. The restrooms are old and not well maintained, but still open outside of operation hours. Worth the visit!

Very special building. Mainly original with ongoing restoration. Easy to get lost due to the many ways you can walk and lots of stairs going everywhere.

Don't be discouraged by the inconspicuous access road up the mountain or the tight turns on the way. This is a must see historical sight, particularly for those interested in WW2 history. True to its name, this site is a fortress of significant size with a maze of tunnels.

Free parking, free museum and visit to the fortress, free toilets. It's fun to walk around the underground tunnels. The opening hours of the cafe are unknown - updated information is needed on site, on Facebook, on Google and on the website. Today the cafe was not open.

An interesting and unique place for military history and World war fans. This fortress carved out of the rocky mountain was a bunker back in the day. You can go through the tunnels and various rooms and observation posts. There is a free mini museum with minimal description of the events that happened here.

Great place to visit and wander around. Quite a bit of history and amazing how the Norwegians held out against the Germans. Heaps of parking as we visited on a Monday with our 7m Motorhome. Road was not too bad, keep an eye out for passing bays

We were on our way to Sweden annd passed the signs for the fortress. We thought "why not. Stretch our legs little." After a dirt road and a verry cool but steap uphill climb with our old campervan we reached the parking with a big sign "NO CAMPING". No problem. Let's have a look. 1st we went to a house which shows a short but clear history of when, why and how it was built, + who was there. Not only the Norwegian but also German and Sweedish armies. The exposition shows equipment, arms and uniforms of all sides. All information is Norwegian but there are booklets on stands with the main stories and information in English. After the museum there was another building which housed some nicely restored artillery, I believe for temporary storage, but we were free to have a look anyway. Than we went uphill to the actual fortress. It is really impressive. The size of it and the atmosphere you sence when you wondering through each room, stairway and corridor. You can climb up into the command towers via old rusty ladders. Climb granite stairs and walk around the turrets. You can also wander around outside along the walls and on top of the fortress. It's unbelievable thinking how it must have been, being there whilst the place was being besieged, shelled and bombed. You're allowed to go almost anywhere and all of this is amazingly free. It is all ran by volunteers and everything looks well kept after. What an absolute gem. Takk to all involved for making and keeping this site accessible for the public to see. I've never seen anything like it.

Kortmans Lysfabrikk AS

Candle store
Shopping
Gift & Specialty Shops
This place is an insane collection of candles and Americana in the middle of nowhere? Fascinating place and the candle factory is the main business. So many colors, shapes, scents & gift ideas? The Vuddu Valley Diner on the premises apparently has mediocre food, but Kortmans Lysfabrikk is the candle factory and that is just unique. There's even a separate Christmas candle department, but also for every other occasions such as Easter, hunting, births and any special day. Really good fun! And then you can eat at the diner or enjoy the memorabilia collection inside and outside.

Don't come here for the food! This place has made an effort to look like an American 50's diner, and they've sort of managed it. But the food is utter nonsense! They offer "burgers"and sandwiches. Everything's dry, and you can really taste the "cheapest frozen meat patty available"-quality of the meal. At these exuberant prices, the food should be several orders of magnitude better looking and tasting... I can't imagine anyone coming back for the food. The atmosphere, sure, but NOT for the food.

Expensive tourists trap with grumpy waitresses. Lots of cool 50s us memorabilia stuff made in china decorations though. Plates and food ok.

Nice diner, styled in American 60's furniture and decorations in the middle of nowhere (almost), yet central along HWY E6 in Norway.

At least 45 minutes between ordering and getting served. Over-rated place, burger is very dry.

Super atmosphere! Nice small museum and a good old school American diner.
