Stone Forest Scenic Area

Geologic Formations
The Stone Forest Scenic Area is a vast karst parkland covering around 400 square kilometers, featuring tall limestone formations and lush green trees. The Shilin Stone Forest within this area is famous for its unique karst landscape, shaped by centuries of wind and rain erosion into towering pinnacles. Divided into three stages of transformation over time, the stone forest showcases the remarkable evolution of its limestone bed.
This is surely a great natural tourist attraction in Yunnan. It boasts of stone landforms of various shapes and sizes. They were lifted from the seabed millions of years ago. There are rocks shaped like a sword. With imagination, one can see shapes of animals like monkeys as well. There is a rock that is precariously balanced on another rock. It is surely an amazing place.

A definite must if you’re in Kunming. Take the high speed train to Shilin North where a bus will be awaiting to whisk you away to the national park entrance. Once there, get away from the (rather overbearing) crowds with shrill guides and walk the wilderness in your own. The Deep and Narrow Valley is the most striking feature where hardly any tourists make it to.
Floyd C — Google review
The Stone Forest began its formation more than 270 million years ago, it is now listed in World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO. The area was long ago covered by an ancient sea that deposited thousands of meters of calciferous shells that would one day become limestone and dolomite. This deep layer was later uplifted and weathered to become the stone forest (UNESCO, 2025) . Major stone forest is made up of steel-gray huge stone peaks while the minor forest are smaller and sparser stone peaks, the famous one is the Legend of Ashima (a brave girl fighting for freedom and was turned into stone).
Nursuriati J — Google review
Probably you can spend around 3hrs to walk around this area. There are some amazing stone creature and view. There is one look out point you can see beautiful scenery. From entrance to the park you will need to walk around 3km, advise to pay certain amount of money get into buggy let them take you there. Recommended to tourist ..

A UNESCO site, 5A graded by the government. It spans over a huge plot of land and all are naturally formed. A really magnificent site. I went in the early morning but it was already very crowded with tourists and locals. You wouldn’t get a chance to take photos as the locals will just jostle their way through. Sadly, smoking and spitting is a common sight even in the UNESCO site.

The **Stone Forest Scenic Area** is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Yunnan, China, famous for its spectacular karst landscape. It features thousands of towering limestone pillars, formed over millions of years, creating a breathtaking "stone forest." What makes it special are its unique rock formations, caves, and underground rivers, showcasing nature’s artistry. Iconic spots like the "Ashima" rock and "Sword Peak Pond" also reflect the culture of the local Yi people. Visitors can wander through the maze-like stone formations, marvel at the geological wonders, and experience ethnic traditions. Whether for nature lovers or cultural explorers, the Stone Forest offers an unforgettable journey.

The fantastic stone forest is a unesco heritage site. The scenic area is huge and require at least 3 hours to explore the essentials, and 3 days to poke into every nook and cranny. Along the way, there are performances of native tribes.

This is the smaller stone forest ("Naigu"), not the famous big one. Which means we were almost alone there. There are several cool trails. We actually got a bit lost, so it is not that small at all! There is a lot to discover and it was beautiful. A hidden gem 😍 Tickets can be bought at the entrance. We went there and back with a Didi, no problem at all.

Yiliang Jiuxiang Scenic Area

Mentioned on
2 lists
National park
Sights & Landmarks
Yiliang Jiuxiang Scenic Area, located about an hour's drive from the Stone Forest, is often referred to as the "museum of karst caves." This natural wonder features China's largest and most impressive cave system. The area is well-maintained and offers tours through a complex underground cave network with colorful lighting that highlights the stunning geological formations.
Beautiful geological park. Everything is very well maintained, clean, and well signposted. Remember to bring your passport to buy tickets. It is quite a long walk, but some parts you have the option to take the glass slide down to the waterfall area for 30RMB. And you can also hire people to carry you in a sedan. There are lots of stalls for you to buy snacks and drinks, even a small Starbucks inside the cave! Toilets are also available, and are mostly clean. The final part of the cave is a bit steep and can be challenging. But it is a wonderful experience, very beautiful and amazing in parts. Slightly spoiled by the very noisy and very rude local tour guides who push past people and scream at the top of their voices with their microphones. Hope you can be more professional and behave.

If you are coming from Kunming , you would need to take a bus (25 RMB , 1 hr) from Kunming eastern bus station (located at Kunming east coach subway station) to Yiliang county bus station first , followed by taking bus 21 (10 RMB, 1 hr 10 min) to Jiu Xiang cave ticketing office. The ticketing office is 5 km away from the actual cave itself. At the ticketing office , you are expected to buy a trip package that include some activities such as watching a 10 min video and a boat ride to bring you to the cave and back. As such , if you only wish to visit the cave directly, there is no transportation to bring you over. It is almost impossible to find a car by ride-hailing as well. Hence, it is important to plan your time so that you enough time to do the whole trip package if you do not have your own transportation. There is a ticketing office here as well but they only sell the entrance ticket (60 RMB) and a chair-lift ride (30 RMB) to return back here. The cave itself is large and there are coloured lights to beautify the rocks. There are also some sections showing the prehistoric time on earth and another about the mythical aspect of the cave but you would need to pay (30 RMB each) if you wish to visit them. There is also a sedan chair service offered if your legs are getting tired for a fee. There are also some souvenir shops and eateries in the cave complex. There is also a fun slide (30 RMB) to go to the lower levels of the cave when you reach the upper levels. The floor is wet as the water drips from the rocks above so do be careful. The duration to tour the cave would be about 2 to 3 hours. You would need to climb up some steps at the end of the walk in the cave followed by taking a chair-lift ride back to the ticketing office.

It was an amazing experience visiting this treasure from mother nature. First of all, we began with a short boat ride at the bottom of the canyon. Then we walked through naturally carved caves and admired at the stalactites. It's enormous inside and you find river through the caves and water dribbling through the rocks and even giant waterfalls inside. The final cable ride that took us a out of the caves was an unforgettable experience as the view was stunning. Beware, it's gonna be long day with a lot of stairs. The walk took us 2-3 hours in total.
Lawrence T — Google review
It's worth climbing hundreds of step to see all this amazing scenery.
Koh L — Google review
We had Starbucks coffee inside the lion cave. The information sign posted wasn't helpful and we had difficulty locating our next stop after our coffee break. At the beautiful twin waterfalls, a photographer was there to take your photograph. Like most places in China, you then have to pay for the photo if you like it. The last stretch was more than 300 steps of uphill climb, which can be tiring for some. They have sedan chairs for hire at 30 yuan if you need help. Then you take a cable car to exit the park.
S Y — Google review
Thousands steps to finish this cave, quite good. On the exit,u'll find fruit sellers, and it's a 'must try'. They sells many kinds of fruit,so fresh and not expensive. On the exit,u may also take cable car.

Malinghe Canyon Scenic Area

Bodies of Water
At the entrance of the Ticket Building is a Layout Plan on Malinghe River Canyon. After the ticket checks, we walked through a covered walkway with wall paintings on both side and exit into a full view of mountains, trees, boardwalks and stone stairs with timber handrails and waterfalls. A display stand "Genesis of Malinghe Canyon" has detailed write on formations of The Malinghe Canyon . It was formed by the Maling River carving a deep, narrow fissure through a high-elevation plain over millions of years. The canyon is a result of the river cutting through the karst topography of the region, which is known for its unique rock formations and geological structures. This process created the spectacular landscape of towering cliffs, numerous waterfalls, and water-curtained grottos that can be seen today. Another display stand has all the informations on Malinghe Waterfall. The waterfall is formed by numerous tributaries springs on sides of the Malinghe River Canyon. From the statistics, there are more than 100 large and small waterfalls during the flood season, with more than 70 of them being perennial waterfalls. They range in height from 50 – 200 meters. Along the boardwalk, each tree has an interpretive signs or botanical labels placed for visitors to know the name. There are rest stop for those to take a break, but I must say it is not for the weak knees as it is a lot of walk down 894 steps, to finally reach at the bottom of Malinghe River Canyon. Nevertheless , the effort is worthwhile especially to view these impressive and spectacular waterfalls at this National Geopark. Indeed a photographer’s haven !!!!!

Scenic area with plenty of waterfalls, rocky cliffs, and generally spectacular views. Be prepared for a physically challenging hike, those who are not fit should not attempt the whole journey.

the place is magical. the walking path along the river bank allows you to enjoy nature's amazing work up close. however it can get super crowded during peak times and the wait times for the elevator can get really long, so avoid going during peak holidays!

When i arrived in early March, its quite dry. The waterfalls are so soft and water level is low. The fun and tiring part is walkway. Come and see how natures show its manificience.

Huangguoshu Waterfall is a stunning 243-foot waterfall located in a lush, green national park. It is part of a group of 18 falls and is known as 'the first waterfall in China.' The waterfall has an impressive width of 81 meters and drops 74 meters into the Xiniu pond, creating a breathtaking sight that can be heard kilometers away. Surrounding the waterfall are fascinating water-eroded caves, adding to the area's natural beauty.
It's really a must see in China except the plateau areas. So big and there's sightseeing buses inside taking tourist from site to site. Go as early as you can or you would get drowned by crow. The ticket is valid for 10 consecutive days (including the day) after successful ticket checking on the day of the daytime trip. The sightseeing bus ticket is valid for three consecutive days from the date of ticket checking.

Impressive waterfall in a nature reserve with lots of hiking tracks. You can walk around the waterfall and even go under it. There was a lot of watermist when I was there and I wondered what the quality of the water was. Some women dressed up in traditional dress and had their photo taken in front of the waterfall.

Private hire to this nature of wonder. Prerp yourself raincoat if you don't want to be wet when walking the 水莲洞. Is a route that you might get partial wet as you will experience walking inside the waterfall. When for this spot on last day of Aug. Off peak but still alot of people. Bought the ticket that cover the 3 scenic spot. But only went for this spot. Recommend to include escalator package so walk a little lesser. Tracking shoe is recommended for the walk.

Absolutely breathtaking experience. Highly recommend going through the Water Curtain Cave instead of the regular experience. Requires a time slot reservation. Bring a rain coat; it costs 2 RMB at the dozens of stalls outside of the ticket office. ID is required. Admission costs around 270-310 RMB, and gives you unlimited access to the scenic area for ten days. Opens from 7 AM to around 6 PM.

The whole walk around took several hours and could be challenging for those who are not fit.

We visit the Huangguoshu Waterfall in the Huangguoshu National Park in Zhenning County, Guizhou. It boasts the largest waterfall in Asia. A bus takes us to the area where the falls are. But we find out that we cannot purchased our entry tickets here. The driver tells us to get back on the bus and we purchase tickets for ¥200 each in the nearby village. The ticket price includes the bus ride to three attractions. Today, we visit two, the Huangguoshu falls (黄果树大瀑布)first, and the Doupotang falls next. The whole visit to the bigger falls take over two hours, including the loop walk to the Water-Curtain Cave (水帘洞 in Chinese), a 134 m long cave located at the back of the Huangguoshu Falls. It allows visitors to not only view, but hear and touch the waterfalls. Huangguoshu, it is claimed,  is the only waterfall in the world that can be viewed from above, below, front, back, left and right. During the peak season, the waiting time to enter this cave can range from 15 minutes to much longer. Visitors can only walk in one direction. The whole loop starting from near the Rhino Pool can take an hour. A cheap poncho is provided, and you can bring an umbrella, to keep dry. Bring enough drinking water and snacks as there are no provisions. Toilets are strategically provided. Beware of the risks of falls as the cement path is very slippery.

Mind-blowing cave system; photos don't do it any justice. Our tracker said we walked 5km underground: it will take you a couple of hours to get through it so this is not a quick thrill. There are underground toilets about half+way through. A highlight of any visit to China and well worth the full day out from Anshun.

This nearly 2 mile long cave is one of the biggest in the world. The walk up to the cave is beautiful but it is nothing compared to the inside of the cave. A lot of infrastructure has been put into the accessibility of the cave. Most of the walking paths are flat concrete and the stairs all have railings for safety. Lights have been placed in key areas to show off the beautiful natural features of the cave system. There is no need to bring a flashlight as there is enough light provided along the path such that there is nothing to worry about. It can be difficult to get to this location based on how far into the interior it is, but if you can find a way to visit the Geopark this is a must see in the interior of China.

The Chinese have done it right! There is a grand opening to the cave and the stalactites, those icicle-shaped formations that hang from the ceiling are plentiful. You circumvent the stalagmites rising from the ground with ease. It's a 2-hour excursion you won't forget.

The caves themselves are absolutely massive and impressive, but our visit in August was very difficult. With the holiday crowds, there were just too many people to enjoy the experience properly. For anyone with mobility issues, this place is not suitable – one of our group had a knee problem and struggled from the very beginning, as there are around 6 km of stairs going up and down. Facilities are also poor. Toilets are limited, and at one point we saw parents using rubbish bins for their children, which was quite unpleasant. You need to be physically prepared for this visit. We had booked a boat trip as part of the experience but gave up after seeing an hour-long wait. While the caves themselves are impressive, I would strongly advise against going in August or if you’re not in good physical condition.

It is 110km away from Anshun City. Jikgeumdong, a UNESCO Global Geopark, is the most beautiful and strange in China and is called the king of caves. It is considered the best to the extent that there is a saying that when you look at Huangshan Mountain, you do not see a mountain, and when you look at Jikgeumdong, you do not see a cave. It has 3 floors and is spacious (6.6km long, 175m wide, 100m high) and has stalagmites in the cave. About 40 types of karst sediments, including stone columns, are piled up to form a thousand shapes. Yeongbin Hall (迎賓館) is 200 meters long and the inside is full of moss. Sunlight comes in through a 10m round window on the ceiling and illuminates the cave floor. When you enter Jikgeum-dong, you will see the Underground Pagoda Forest, a forest of pagoda-shaped rocks. Cheolsan Clouds, reminiscent of a hazy fairyland, and Baekcheok Suryeom, pouring down with great force.百尺垂帘) Reminiscent of the moon country Gwanghangung (廣寒宮), a mystical palace in the sky, Yeongsojeon (靈霄殿), etc. unfold and create admiration. In the small hall next to Yeongbin Hall (迎賓館), there is a 10m high stalactite, which is a mushroom that forms after a nuclear bomb explodes. Because it is shaped like a cloud, it is called Mushroom Cloud Hall. Ganggyeongdang is shaped like a Bodhisattva sitting on a rock in a cave and preaching Buddhist teachings. In Taplim-dong, about 100 pagodas gather together to form a spectacular sight. The dazzling yellow stone pagoda is 30 meters tall. The tower divides the cave into 11 halls, and between them, stalactites of different shapes, such as stalagmites, stone pillars, and stone draperies, are scattered and harmonious. Mangsan-dong is the center of Jikgeum-dong and has an underground lake 170m long and 40m wide, from which you can easily go to other attractions. Black stalactites grow on the lakeside, and among them, the 10m high stalactite is shaped like an iron tree. The tree is full of black stone beads, and one side of the beads is white, so it is called a silver flower. Mangsan-dong If you go up the steep hill to the east, go around 18 bends and 27 corners, then climb 441 steps and pass through Namcheonmun Gate. If you enter Yeongsojeon and climb the 422 stairs to the west, you will pass through Bukcheonmun (北天門) and enter Gwanghangung Palace. On the inner wall of Yeongsojeon (靈秀殿), there is a 100-cheek-high multi-colored stone pillar hanging, giving it the feeling of a heavenly palace. Gwanghangung Palace (400m long, 100m wide, 70m high) has steep mountains and a pond between the mountains. At the edge of the pond, a 60m tall stone tree full of stone reishi mushrooms grows, creating a spectacular sight.                                     Gangnam District is divided into four parts: Bangkok Corridor, Beihai Ridge, Banquet Hall, and Gangnam District. The Bangkok Corridor is lined with strange and colorful stalactites, and the banquet hall is spacious and well-structured. It is flat and dry, making it great for taking a break during the tour. It's a place. The Bukhae Ridge has a winding stone embankment shaped like a dragon and is lined with stalactites, while Gangnamtaeguk has a rural scenery with flowing water and lakes and rice fields. The length of Jikgeum-dong (Jikgeum County, Bije City, Guizhou Province) is 6.6 km, and it takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. Information boards at important points provide explanations in Chinese, English, and Korean, so there is no major inconvenience even without a guide. There is also a portable emergency toilet installed somewhere in the middle.   Jikgeum-dong entrance fee is 110 yuan (3~11)/100 yuan (12~1), train ticket is 20 yuan, and opening time is 08:30~ (Original) Qingyan Ancient Town is a must-see tourist attraction in Guiyang, located only an hour away. This 200-year-old town offers visitors a glimpse into its rich culture, architecture, traditions, arts, crafts and food. Its old houses, streets and shrines reflect the wealth of ancient times with intricate details on doors, roofs and brick roads.
An old town that has maintain its old town charm despite the commercialization. There are usual old town retails and eateries. A great place to wander around and explore the various curious. There is even part of the old city wall.

This is an ancient town that deserves good attention. One can visit this place after popping by 夜郎谷, as it is nearby. Recommend to get there by e-hailing service. One will have to make a nominal fee payment to access the ancient town, a decision you will not regret. For those who have not visited the great wall in Beijing, this is just as good and not congested.

The old town is currently doing some revamping in order to get a 5A rating for tourist attraction. Even though it is rather commercialized, it's still worth a visit and night's stay. Come out early in the morning before most shops are open to enjoy the tranquillity of your walk around the town. There is also a wall surround the north and west of the town which you can climb for aerial view of the town. The rose products like rose sweets and rose syrup are very popular.糕耙稀饭 (Gao Ba Xi Fan) is a must try too.

Fanjing Shan

Mentioned on

Mountain peak
Nature & Parks
Fanjing Shan is an exceptional and distinctive mountain peak with a visible habitation at the top. The way of life of people residing on the mountain's summit and their means of transportation from its base intrigues many. Climbing Fanjing Shan takes roughly five hours, but it offers stunning scenery and breathtaking views from the Buddhist shrine situated at its highest point. Overall, this peak is a remarkable sight to behold, with a unique ecosystem, rich cultural heritage, and awe-inspiring natural beauty.
Mount Fanjing, or Fanjingshan, is part of the Wuling mountain range in southwestern China’s Guizhou province. Named as a Unesco's World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site in 2018, the mountain is home to a conservation area, a nature reserve, and a number of Buddhist temples—it has been considered a sacred site for centuries. Fanjingshan Temple is actually the 2 next-door temples, namely Temple of the Buddha (释迦殿) & Maitreya Temple (弥勒殿), on the peak of the Red Clouds Golden Summit, which rises more than 330 feet (100.6 meters) above the surrounding mountaintop. One is for worshipping Sakiymuni representing the present and the other is for Maitreya representing the future. The 2 temples were originally built about over 500 years ago in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and the present temples have been rebuilt in Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) according to its original look, and more new temples also were built along the mountain way to “Red Clouds Golden Summit”, including Cheng’en Temple, Baoguo Temple, Longquan Temple, etc. There is only one hall for each temple, which is built with layers of stone pieces into 17.7 feet (5.4 meters) wide and 18.2 feet (5.55 meters) deep. There is a short stonebridge linking between the two temples above the deep Gold Sword Gorge. Fanjingshan is an important landmark for Buddhists as they believe it's where the Maitreya Buddha found "enlightenment". In 2019, National Geographic Traveler put Fanjingshan on its "Best Trips of the Year" list and described hiking up the mountain as "climbing through a sea of clouds". To reach the temples, visitors must climb 8,888 narrow steps (with iron chains at one side, for holding) from the foot to the summit, which takes around less than 2 hours (needs much energy and not recommended for people with not-so-good physical condition or suffer acrophobia), though there is the option to ride a cable car part way up the side of the ridge. Because Fanjingshan remained relatively isolated for so many years, it has an astonishing amount of biodiversity. With altitudes ranging from 1,640 feet (500 meters) to 8,432 feet (2,570 meters) above sea level, it's home to over 2,000 endemic plant species (31 of which are endangered) and hundreds of endangered or/and threatened animals, including Grey snub-nosed monkey, Chinese giant salamander, Forest musk deer and Reeve’s pheasant... In fact, some species date to the Tertiary period—between 66 million and 2 million years ago. To see Fanjingshan Temple, visitors need to get to Tongren City first and transfer to Fanjingshan by taxi or local bus. Tongren Fenghuang Airport has flights to/from Beijing (2.5 hours), Shanghai (2.5 hours), Guiyang (1 hour), Guilin (1 hour), Kunming (2 hours), Hangzhou (2.5 hours), Guangzhou (1.5 hour), Shenzhen (1.5 hour), Xiamen (2 hours), etc. Besides, Tongren South Railway Station is linked by bullet trains with Guiyang (2 hours), Chengdu (5 hours), Chongqing (4 hours), Guangzhou (6 hours), Kaili (1 hour), Changsha (3.5 hours), etc. From Tongren, visitors can take a local taxi to Fanjingshan for about 1.5 hour. Besides, some direct buses are available from both airport and railway station to Fanjingshan. Entry to this site costs 110 yuan for adults ($17). The 3,400-metre cable car ride costs 90 yuan ($14) for a return journey (half an hour each way). Whatever season you visit, the advice is to pack some warm clothes and waterproofs. * Photos courtesy of Internet and Facebook. Thanks!

For centuries, it has been revered as a holy place, particularly by Buddhists who believe it to be the site of the Maitreya Buddha's enlightenment. Originally constructed during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the Fanjingshan Temple complex underwent reconstruction in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The complex comprises two main temples: the Temple of the Buddha, dedicated to Sakyamuni, and the Maitreya Temple, honoring the future Buddha. These temples, perched atop the Red Clouds Golden Summit, are connected by a stone bridge spanning the Gold Sword Gorge. Reaching the summit requires a challenging ascent of 8,888 steps or a less strenuous cable car ride. The journey rewards visitors with breathtaking views and a glimpse into the mountain's rich history and spiritual significance. Fanjingshan's isolation and diverse altitudes have fostered a unique ecosystem. The mountain is home to over 2,000 plant species, many of which are endemic or endangered. Additionally, it provides a habitat for various threatened animals, including the grey snub-nosed monkey and the Chinese giant salamander. Some of these species have origins dating back to the Tertiary period. To reach Fanjingshan, visitors typically travel to Tongren City. The city is accessible by air via Tongren Fenghuang Airport or by rail through Tongren South Railway Station. From Tongren, visitors can reach the mountain by taxi or bus. Regardless of the season, visitors are advised to prepare for varying weather conditions by packing warm clothing and waterproof gear.

Yes, it’s pretty - as long as it’s not misty. Which is it most of the time. Prepare for queueing of hours upon hours. If you decide to go anyhow, make sure you wake up at 7 and try and get tickets to even get in. It has gotten was to busy here to still be enjoyable. Note; if you want to climb all the way up to the temple, be sure to book a spot when you arrive! Or you’ll have to queue there another hour.

History Museums
The Xiangxi Phoenix Ancient City Scenic Area boasts a truly magnificent and picturesque old town that becomes even more breathtaking after dark, thanks to the enchanting illumination of its buildings. This historical attraction offers an immersive experience through its ancient streets, particularly during dawn and nighttime strolls. For a unique perspective, taking a boat ride along the river allows visitors to admire the charming houses that have been reconstructed. Tranquil and delightful, this destination delivers an awe-inspiring night view that is simply unparalleled.
One of the main reasons for our trip here in Zhangjiajae is the ancient town of “feng huang” or phoenix old town. It’s truly mesmerizing and incredible to be able to visit this gem. Loved the architecture of the entire village and the captivating beauty of their building structures. Tasting Tujia and Miao cuisine and enjoying the traditional costume plus the experience of teleporting back in time to 1704 (300 years ago)😂😂😂😂😂. We had the rare opportunity to experience both day and night view of the old wonders along the river banks too.

Fenghuang Bridge is a captivating gem nestled in the enchanting ancient city of Phoenix, where traditional architecture meets vibrant culture. This picturesque bridge spans the Tuojiang River, offering stunning views that are especially magical at night when the area comes alive with lights and energy. Strolling along the riverside allows visitors to soak in breathtaking scenery while exploring charming shops filled with local snacks and handicrafts. The lively atmosphere during evenings makes it an ideal spot for photographers and those seeking a unique experience.
One of the most central locations in the ancient city. The nice thing about this bridge is that it’s central in the sense that many of the shops are right nearby but at the same time it’s not crowded here relative to the other places.

Very beautiful old town with traditional style buildings. Have a slow stroll along river and take in the gorgeous riverside scenery. There are many shops along the main shopping street selling traditional snacks and local food as well as traditional handicrafts.

Ancient Ruins
Phoenix Ancient City, also known as Fenghuang Ancient Town, is a renowned destination in China with well-preserved Ming and Qing architecture. The town boasts 85 cultural relics protection units, including national and provincial level sites. Visitors can explore over 116 ancient sites and more than 120 characteristic dwellings. Despite its popularity, the town's daytime beauty shines through its ancient architecture and the serene Tuo River that runs through it.
I visited the City on September 15 and 16 with my sister Miriam and brother in law Sergio. This City is spectacular. I stayed at Xizha River View home stay and they stayed at Wang Jiang Reclusive Boutique Inn. My hotel was very clean and comfortable but the hotel does not make the stay perfect. My sister’s hotel owners made the perfect stay. @WangJiangmountain were the perfect host couple. Without their instructions to restaurants, events, times and historic locations we couldn’t visiting all these additional historic locations in the City. The best place to find their hotel is in booking under the name Wang Jiang Reclusive Boutique Inn. Good luck on finding availability they are always busy. He is 100% amazing. The hotel will help you to buy the tickets for the boat at night and the museums to visit in the morning.

Absolutely stunning wooden stilted houses along the green river that snakes along the valley. At night this gorgeously authentic indigenous village with it's serene boat rides transforms into a magically lit masterpiece. The town offers many eateries at reasonable prices and if you are willing to walk away from the main bridges, you can find a more peaceful village scene and nice homestays overlooking the river and pagodas. At night the transformation also includes the visitors all decked out in the indigenous clothing and of course posting photos for social media, which makes for a very interesting evening wandering through the town.

This FengHuang Ancient Town is even more magical at night, tastefully lit up. The city is full of life with both youngsters and elderly using the city as a stage to dress up in the ethnic costumes of the minority people of this place and parade themselves at each and every beautiful vista of this town with their personal photographer. Interesting and quaint shops abound all over the little alleyways. I would return here.

Came here in October and it was beautiful! I loved the scenery on the boat ride. It also looks amazing at night when the whole city lights up. However, many locals approach you every minute trying to sell professional photography, food or other things to you.

A well preserved ancient town within a modern city. Unlike other ancient towns in China, there is no entry fee. There are pedestrian paths on both sides of Toujiang river, about 2-3 kilometres long and connecting with many small alleys, especially on the southern side. At night, buildings along riverside are all lit up and there are a few performances on the river, igniting a festive vibe. There are many shops for traditional Miao costume as well as professional photos shooting services. Many women, young and old alike seemed to enjoy this activity. The town is worth staying for at least one night. Most people will combine visiting to this town in the Zhangjiajie multi-day trip itinerary. The town is easily accessible by high speed train.

Beautiful place to visit. At night, it gets very crowded, but the scenery is worth seeing. There are restaurants and shops, and costume rentals and photo opportunities are available. It's a really great experience.

A place to see buildings that come from a different time in china. The buildings here and the ancient town are amazing. I got here by train and took a taxi into the town. Very easy to do so even with out knowing that many words in chinese. The taxi driver called ahead and spoke to my hotel and the person at the hotel came out to greet me . This was great since I was staying in the ancient city part . He took me down the narrow streets and alley to the room. Two things you will find here besides the city are places to get dressed into period correct chinese clothing and food. There are lots of tours as well. But if you are able just exploring the city by yourself is great. Use alipay or wepay instead of cash or card.

Small ancient town similar to many other ancient towns in China. Stay for day and night the transformation is beautiful with the lights and performance along the river. Try on the miao ethnic costumes for photo opportunities. Not expensive and the the edited photos are nice.
