Dainthlen Falls

Mentioned on
2 lists
Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
Dainthlen Falls is a picturesque park and popular picnic destination, boasting a stunning waterfall in a tranquil landscape. Located in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya, entry to the location is prohibited. The water flow is relatively low during December, making it an ideal time for walking around. However, the monsoon season offers visitors an opportunity to witness the waterfall's true splendor. Tourists can also enjoy wading in the river on the upper bank while taking in the surrounding scenery.
If Meghalaya were a rock band, the Dainthlen Falls would be the lead guitarist – powerful, wild, and with a fanbase that includes both tourists and thunder gods. Located a few kilometers from Sohra (Cherrapunjee), this waterfall isn’t your usual “stand, pose, click” kind of spot. It’s a storybook wrapped in mist and myth, cascading down in unapologetic glory. Why It Rocks (Pun Intended): Unlike its more “vertically inclined” cousins, Dainthlen isn’t about the plunge — it’s about the roar. It sprawls out in a wide dramatic spread over ancient rock formations like nature just dropped the mic. The water flows over these fascinating snake-like grooves that make you wonder — was this made by erosion or a slightly tipsy divine sculptor? But here’s the spicy twist: legend has it that a giant evil python (named Thlen) once terrorized the region until it was slain right near these falls by local heroes. The “Thlen-slaying spot” is said to be the very rocks you now selfie upon. So yeah, you're basically walking on mythological Netflix. Pro Tips for the Insta-Hungry: - Drone shots? Goldmine. The panoramic view is pure desktop-wallpaper material. - Visit during the monsoon or post-monsoon (June to September) for full-volume water drama. - Be careful on the rocks — they’re slipperier than political promises before elections. Travel Tidbits: - No entry fee (your wallet does a happy jig). - No railings either (your mom’s blood pressure spikes). - It’s a lovely picnic spot, but do pack your own snacks and water — unless you're into foraging wild berries and regret. Fun Fact: Local Khasi lore still warns against the revival of Thlen through dark rituals. Yep, not your average touristy folklore. Hogwarts meets folklore in the hills. Wrap-Up: Tha Dainthlen Falls is Meghalaya’s answer to a Viking saga — raw, dramatic, and backed by ancient tales that still echo through the cliffs. It’s the perfect combo of myth, mist, and muscle. Go there not just to see a waterfall, but to feel a story roar beneath your feet.
Rajdeep D — Google review
There’s also a local legend connected to the falls, which adds a nice layer of meaning to the visit. It’s not just a beautiful view — it feels like part of the land’s story. There aren’t many railings or barriers, so you can walk right up to the rocks — but you do need to be careful. The natural setting makes it feel more real than most tourist spots.
Gold T — Google review
Such serene place. Lots of natural cater filled with clean water. Perfect place to relax. Be careful from the mouth as the fall is very deep. Very easy to slip and get engulfed by the fall
Shikhar A — Google review
Dainthlen Falls is one of the most captivating waterfalls in Meghalaya, located near Sohra (Cherrapunji). What makes this place unique is not just the natural beauty, but also the rich folklore attached to it. According to local legend, this is the site where villagers once killed a giant serpent (Thlen) that symbolized greed and evil – making the falls a place of both history and mystery. The waterfall itself is wide, powerful, and majestic, especially during the monsoon when the water gushes down with full force. There’s a viewpoint that allows you to stand right near the edge and witness the breathtaking drop, though visitors should be careful as the rocks can get slippery. The surrounding landscape of rolling hills, greenery, and the sound of rushing water creates a serene yet dramatic atmosphere. Unlike many other tourist spots, Dainthlen Falls is not overly crowded, which makes it even more enjoyable for those who prefer calm and scenic locations. It’s a perfect stop for photography, relaxation, and to soak in the cultural stories of Meghalaya. Truly a must-visit if you are exploring Cherrapunji and want to experience both natural wonder and local legend in one place
Sai Y — Google review
Dainthlen Falls is one of the most majestic and historically significant waterfalls in Cherrapunji. Located just a short drive from the main town, it offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and local legend. The waterfall flows powerfully over a wide rock bed before plunging into a deep gorge, creating a mesmerizing sight, especially during the monsoon season. According to Khasi folklore, the waterfall gets its name from a mythical serpent called Thlen, which was believed to be an evil creature defeated at this very spot. This adds a fascinating cultural and mythical charm to the already dramatic scenery. The area around Dainthlen Falls is open and expansive, offering sweeping views of the valley and surrounding hills. It’s a great spot for photography, picnics, and watching the sunset. The sound of the roaring water and the mist in the air make the experience truly refreshing. Highlights: Powerful and wide waterfall with a dramatic drop Rich local legend adds a cultural touch Open landscape with panoramic views Ideal for photography, picnics, and short walks Tips: Best visited during or right after the monsoon (June–October) for the best flow. Stay behind safety barriers — the rocks near the edge can be slippery. Visit early morning or late afternoon for softer light and fewer crowds. Combine your visit with nearby Wei Sawdong and Mawsawa Falls.
Rick D — Google review
Peaceful and beautiful location. Access to the waterfall was closed may be due to the monsoon season but the place surrounding the waterfall is also worth visiting.
Rohan B — Google review
An underrated gem. You get to see from where the waterfall jumps. It's a riverbed, and one can see all the craters and holes a river creates on It's way.
Kousani B — Google review
Nice waterfall Best thing is one can go close to the waterfall and see from the origin The vehicle can go up to nearby parking zone and one can walk till the main waterfall The real fun is in rainy season

Om Namah Shivay A naturally made Shiva Lingam. Shivji has numerous ways to proof its presence.

Really a great place... Feels amazing... Even though pouring water or milk is not allowed, water keeps on dripping in the Shivling from above. A must visit if you are devout worshipper of Shiva.
Himan R — Google review
Beautiful cave of Mahadev. There’s a shivling here where drop by drop water falls from the ceiling But unfortunately we can’t do abhishek or offer milk or water

Naturally Shiva Linga has been formed inside the cave, true faith of hinduism 🕉️ Feeling blessed to visit this place

Om Namah Shivai . A must visit if you are in Mawsynram. Water automatically fall on the shiva Linga . Only few steps down to the cave . You can visit within 30 minutes . An entry fee of Rs 50/- per adult.
Subu C — Google review
Naturally formed Shiv Linga in a far-off cave in Mawsynram. The place is quiet, peaceful and beautiful. There was no one else there when we visited. There is ticket for entering the caves. Water is dripping from the top just at the entrance of the cave. Loved the overall vibe here!
Kuheli G — Google review
Shiv Mandir situated in Mawsynram, no Pooja or offerings are carried out here. Stalactite-stalagmite formation as Shiv Ling and water dripping naturally on top of it as dhara. GPS will take you to the correct spot and has a lot of parking space. Open 9am-4pm and minor entry & parking fees to be paid.
Harish S — Google review
A huge with natural Shivlingam inside. There is an upside shivlingam too on the main one with water dropping from above. The cave towards the end look a little scarry though. One has to buy a ticket to visit it. It's near Mawsynram, the wettest place on the planet, so do visit here while a visit to Mawsynram.

Arwah Cave is a newly opened tourist attraction featuring a sunken chamber leading to caverns with limestone walls that are fossilized with fish and crustaceans. The 5-minute walk from the parking area offers a serene experience with the sound of birds chirping along the path. Inside, visitors can enjoy cool temperatures and small water streams, illuminated by lights on the path. It's important to carry a torch but not litter or write on the well-maintained rocks inside.

This is a good walk from the parking lot, but a nice walk through a path, forests, the valley, misty and pleasant . The cave itself when we went, had lost power ( we did not realise ) and was pitch dark. We tried our best to move forward with our phone torches. After maybe a bit we moved back to the exit when the lights came on and made life easier 😀. So we walked back to the entrance and started again . We Could not observe too much on the walls and not too many stalactites, but it was still a good experience which became even more exciting briefly because of the darkness. Not very claustrophobic and mostly can be done walking straight, no need for crouching .

Arwah Cave is an amazing place to explore in Cherrapunjee! The walk to the cave is beautiful, surrounded by lush greenery and scenic views. Inside the cave, we saw ancient fossils, limestone formations, and heard the sound of flowing water echoing through the tunnels—it was truly magical. The path is well-lit and maintained, but you do need to be careful as it can be slippery in some spots. Entry fee is reasonable, and it’s definitely worth it for the experience, adult 50, children 10. A perfect spot for adventure lovers and nature enthusiasts alike!
Rakshitha S — Google review
A long limestone cave very near to cherapunji. It takes about 30 min to explore it properly. The inside part is well lit. But one must be careful about his head as some parts are very short in height. Constant dripping of water make the walking more thrilling. It takes a 20 mins walk from the entry point to the cave and that walking is a fascinating one. Form the view point Wahkaba falls can be seen.
Sukanta M — Google review
The cave itself is very boring and there is no signs or guidance on where the fossils are, we couldn't find any. The walk to it is very beautiful though, the views are lovely. But I wouldn't recommend this cave for any visitors, there are many more interesting places around more worth your time such as waterfalls and viewpoints.

🪨 Arwah Caves – Meghalaya 🌿 The Arwah Caves, also known as the Arwah Lumshynna Cave, are one of Meghalaya’s most fascinating natural wonders, located near Sohra (Cherrapunjee). Famous for their limestone formations, fossils, and adventurous walkways, these caves are a must-visit for nature and history lovers alike. Here’s your complete guide 👇 --- 📍 Location Place: Sohra (Cherrapunjee), East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya Distance from Shillong: ~54 km (around 2 hours by road) Distance from Cherrapunjee town center: ~4 km Located inside the Arwah Lumshynna Eco Park, surrounded by dense forest and hills. --- 🕳️ About Arwah Caves These caves are natural limestone formations carved by centuries of water flow. Known for their stalactites, stalagmites, and fossils embedded in the cave walls — some resembling marine creatures and shells estimated to be millions of years old. The cave system is about 300 meters long, but only a portion is open for visitors for safety and preservation. --- 🧭 Highlights 1. Fossil Wall: Look closely at the rocks — you’ll see fossils of ancient sea life from when Meghalaya was under the ocean! 🌊 2. Rock Formations: Natural sculptures formed by dripping water over centuries. 3. Natural Light & Echoes: Some chambers have skylights where sunlight filters in — perfect for photos. 4. Trekking Path: A scenic 1 km forest trail from the parking area to the cave entrance, with wooden bridges and viewpoints. --- 🕒 Timings & Entry Opening Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Entry Fee: Around ₹20–₹30 per person Parking: Available near the Eco Park entrance Torchlight: Provided by the guides (or carry your own headlamp for better experience) --- 🗓️ Best Time to Visit October to April: Ideal — cool, dry weather and safe walking inside caves. Bring a torch or headlamp for exploring darker sections. Avoid loud noises; the echo inside can be intense. Respect the natural formations — no touching or scratching the rocks. Location is top notch.. Must visit

The 2nd spot that we visited after visiting elephant falls is Arwah caves in our 2nd day of Meghalaya trip. This is a very pretty place as you have to walk by the mountain side into the cabe and the lane is amazing with huge trees and birds and bugs chirping. The cave also looks very haunted one with big chunks of rocks and boulders. Water was flowing inside the cave sonone has to be very careful. The view of mountains is also amazing you can also see some great falls from here which is dreamy and hids when clouds arrive. Allover it's a beautiful experience here.
Nabyendu D — Google review
Beautiful cave. Very long and narrow at places. One of the must see destinations in Cherrapunji. Nice place where you can see astonishing rock formation. The floor can be very wet and damp and slippery too. So be careful when you go inside. And mind your head; the upper roof is so low at times that your head may bump against the rock above. At times you may have to bend down or kneel down to go through. Though it involves strenuous effort, it will definitely provide an awesome experience.

One of the best homestay in northeast India. My favorite homestay. New, clean helpful and good behaviour teste and clean food. Thank you very much for your hospitality.
SOMNATH P — Google review
Feels like home… but with better WiFi and a cooler owner I stayed here for a few days, and honestly, I’m starting to think I might just “accidentally” forget to leave. The house is so cozy it feels like it gives you a hug the moment you step in. Everything is spotless (seriously, I dropped a cookie on the floor and considered eating it—don’t judge 😅). And the owner? Absolute legend! Not only super helpful and kind, but also has a great sense of humor—basically part-time host, part-time stand-up comedian. They made sure I felt comfortable, guided me around like a local, and even shared stories that made me laugh harder than Netflix. If you’re looking for a place that’s safe, warm, and comes with free smiles, this is it. Just be careful—you might end up liking it so much that you’ll start calling it “home” too!

I stayed with my friends here for a night. Very neat, hassle free - clean homestay. This is the closest stay to the waterfall. I stayed in 5 different places in all 5 days of my Meghalaya trip, but Krangsuri homestay stood out. Food was amazing and host Youri speaks perfect English and so friendly! She helped us the next day being our guide to the waterfall and explained all the history of it! I recommend this homestay for families and also solo travelers! One homestay that I don’t mind going back again!!

The food was absolutely delicious—freshly prepared with authentic flavors of Meghalaya, and every meal felt like it was made with love. The location is breathtaking, surrounded by lush greenery, rolling hills, and a peaceful atmosphere that truly lets you experience the beauty of Meghalaya. What made this stay truly special was the personal touch—by the hosts esp yourimem went out of their way to share stories about the culture, suggest hidden gems to explore, and even guided us to some offbeat spots we would have otherwise missed. If you are looking for a homestay that gives you not just a place to sleep but a heartfelt experience of Meghalaya’s hospitality and beauty, this is the place. Highly recommended—I would love to come back again! 🌿✨

Laitlum Canyon, located atop the Khasi hills in Meghalaya, offers breathtaking panoramic views of lush green hills, deep valleys, and beautiful cloud-covered landscapes. The area is often compared to the Scottish highlands due to its resemblance. To reach the canyon, visitors can enjoy a scenic drive through winding roads surrounded by verdant landscapes.
One of the best place to visit. Such a beautiful view of the valleys and clouds. Soft breezes with cold weather throughout the months and it just makes you feel the peace. Great place to sit and chill with friends and family. You must visit if you are planning for a vacation in Meghalaya.
Prerana D — Google review
I recently visited Laitlum Canyon, and it was truly one of the most wonderful experiences of my trip to Meghalaya. If you want to feel close to nature, this is the perfect place to visit. Located around 70 km from Shillong, the drive itself is scenic, passing through beautiful hills and local villages. Once you reach, the view is absolutely breathtaking — vast green valleys, steep cliffs, and clouds floating right beside you. It genuinely feels like standing in the middle of the sky! You can easily spend the entire day here, just soaking in the peace and natural beauty. Many visitors bring their own food, and you can even cook or have a picnic while enjoying the cool breeze and stunning views. There are also a few small local shops near the parking area where you can buy tea, snacks, and refreshments, which adds to the charm of the place. Parking is available and costs ₹50 if you’re coming by car. The locals who manage the place are friendly and helpful, making the visit even more enjoyable. What I loved most about Laitlum Canyon is that it’s still less commercialized and peaceful, offering a raw and pure connection with nature. It’s a paradise for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone looking for a calm escape from city life. Overall, Laitlum Canyon is a must-visit spot near Shillong. The views, the atmosphere, and the feeling of being surrounded by clouds make it an unforgettable experience. 🌤️💚

Visiting this beautiful valley was an unforgettable experience. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking — surrounded by majestic hills, lush greenery, and a river flowing peacefully through the heart of it. The fresh air and calm atmosphere made it the perfect escape from the noise of daily life. Every corner of the valley looked like a picture — from the blooming flowers to the distant mist-covered mountains. It’s a place that truly connects you with nature and leaves you feeling refreshed and inspired. Highly recommended for anyone who loves peace, beauty, and a touch of adventure. 🌿🏞️

About 70/75 mins drive from Shillong. We were lucky with the weather, having gotten there early in the morning. Nice cool breeze blowing the mist over , giving us a wonderful view of the canyon / valley below. Grassy Knoll which makes for fantastic pictures. Uniqueness about this place was it combines a lovely view with the grassy meadows - two places in one ! Parking is quite good and pay and use washrooms. Some small shops close by with basic quick eats. Tickets are 20 per person and parking for cars is 50.

Visited Laitlum tourist spot located near to Shillong. It is about half an hour driving on less traffic days. A person comes to Shillong must visit this place in addition to Dawki, Mawsynrsram and Cheerapunjee. The authorities have maintain the place superbly like other tourist place in Meghalaya. One can enjoy family picnic here with parcels food. It is little windy so visitors are recommended to takeswarm cloth with them. I highly recommend all to visit this place, once in their lifetime.

Beautiful tourist destination in Meghalaya. Ensure that it is in your itinerary when you visit Meghalaya. Ample space for parking and enough area to move about. One of the best places for photography. When you reach the spot, the beauty of the place will force you to linger there for some time. Children will love it particularly. Though it is not as marvellous as the Grand Canyon in the USA, this is quite fine, with beautiful blue hills and deep valleys everywhere.

My visit to Laitlum Canyons was an absolutely unforgettable experience! I was completely mesmerized by the view from the moment I arrived. The name "Laitlum" (meaning "end of hills") is so fitting. The valleys are truly awesome; they are vast, sweeping, and stretch out as far as the eye can see, looking like a painting. Seeing the clouds roll through them is magical. I also loved the weather during my visit. It was so pleasant and fresh, which just made the entire experience perfect. Standing there, taking in that incredible scenery with the beautiful weather, was a moment of pure awe. I can't recommend visiting Laitlum Canyons enough. It’s a stunning piece of nature that truly captivates you and one of the best viewpoints I've ever seen.

TYRSHI WATER FALL

Mentioned on

One of the beautiful falls in West Jayantia Hills. It is a hidden waterfall actually, not so many travellers come here to enjoy the beauty. The trees and the colourful leaves make it more beautiful. Actually, it is a cascade, not a proper waterfall. There are paddy fields also which get benefit from the water. Such a Photogenic waterfall this one is. You can capture nice pieces of photographs for you and your partner. You just need to come down to the bottom. Then you will feel the actual version of it. There are plenty of flowers, I Don't know the names bit they seem to be the permanent residents of this area.

One of the more unique water fall experiences ever. Walking through / surrounded by Paddy fields to the two tiered cascade. Went early in the morning so it was not much crowded . About 350 steps and a path one way down so it is not very tough but for a couple of sections on the way back when you get the sun on you. The water is so cool and you are tempted to get under the falls. Clean and well maintained and makes for amazing pictures. The air feels so fresh and sweet smelling thanks to all the vegetation. Shall be of the favourite parts of my Meghalaya visit. Best visited on your return trip from Dawki to Shillong if you plan it that way - along with Krang Suri falls and Narthiang.

Tyrshi Falls, located near Jowai in the West Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, is a stunning and lesser-known waterfall that showcases the raw beauty of the region. Nestled amidst rolling hills and dense greenery, this waterfall offers a peaceful escape for travelers seeking tranquility away from the more popular tourist spots. The waterfall cascades gracefully over rocky cliffs into a natural pool below, surrounded by lush forest and misty hills. The gushing water, combined with the cool breeze, creates a refreshing and serene atmosphere. Unlike heavily commercialized waterfalls, Tyrshi Falls maintains its pristine charm and is perfect for photography, nature walks, and short picnics. The approach is moderately easy, with a scenic walk through greenery and small local trails, making it accessible for most visitors. Tyrshi Waterfall, often called the ‘twin of Shillong’s Elephant Falls,’ is a hidden gem near Jowai in Meghalaya. The waterfall is wide and elegant, cascading down gracefully amidst lush greenery, making it a picture-perfect spot for nature lovers and photographers. What makes Tyrshi special is the scenic approach – you get to walk through golden paddy fields on a beautiful stone pathway with over 100 steps leading down to the viewpoint. The peaceful walk itself feels like a journey into nature’s lap. From the bottom, the view of the waterfall is absolutely breathtaking, especially during the monsoon when the flow is at its peak. Unlike more commercialized waterfalls, Tyrshi is relatively less crowded, which adds to its charm and serenity. You can truly enjoy the sound of rushing water, the cool breeze, and the calm surroundings without much disturbance. It’s an ideal spot for a relaxed visit, photography, or just spending quiet moments away from the rush. If you’re in Jowai or planning a trip around West Jaintia Hills, Tyrshi Waterfall is a must-visit destination that beautifully captures the raw and untouched beauty of Meghalaya

My trip to Meghalaya was an unforgettable experience! The state truly deserves its title as the “Abode of Clouds.” The natural beauty of the hills, waterfalls, and caves was breathtaking. Visiting places like Cherrapunji, Dawki, and Shillong was the highlight of the journey

The place is usually less crowded, making it calm and peaceful for nature lovers. 💡 Tips for Visitors: Wear comfortable shoes as the steps can be a bit slippery. Tyrshi Waterfall near Jowai in Meghalaya offers a stunning, serene experience for visitors. The waterfall is tall and mighty, cascading down rocky cliffs surrounded by lush greenery and scenic paddy fields. The trek to the base, via well-maintained steps and a picturesque arch bridge, makes the visit extra special, offering panoramic views of the valley below. The atmosphere is peaceful and uncrowded, as Tyrshi Falls remains relatively unknown compared to other spots. There are no vendors or tourist crowds—just the sound of birds, rustling leaves, and the magnificent rush of water. The best time to visit is after the monsoon, when the water is at its most impressive, and the landscape is vibrant. The walk down can be tiring but is entirely worth the effort for the spectacular views, cool mist from the falls, and the tranquility rarely found elsewhere. One can enjoy nature walks, photography, and even a refreshing dip in the natural pool, but packing snacks is essential as there aren't any shops nearby. Tyrshi Falls is an ideal day trip for families, nature lovers, and those seeking solitude and the raw beauty of Meghalaya.

While in Shillong, tourists can also trek to the top of Shillong Peak for panoramic views, visit the historic Shillong Golf Course, offer prayers at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, and experience local shopping at Police Bazar.
Excellent Water Fall to see very nearly. Elephant Falls is one of the most famous and easily accessible waterfalls in Shillong, often considered a must-visit stop for anyone exploring Meghalaya. Located just about 12 km from the city center, this beautiful three-tiered waterfall offers a refreshing escape into nature, surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sound of cascading water. The falls are named after a rock that once resembled an elephant, though it was destroyed in an earthquake many years ago. Visitors can descend through well-built steps that lead to three different levels of the falls — each offering its own unique view and charm. The lowest tier is the most picturesque, where the water gushes down dramatically, making it a favorite spot for photos. The area is well-maintained, with proper walkways, railings, and small shops near the entrance selling local crafts and snacks. It’s a great place to relax, take pictures, and enjoy the cool misty air. Highlights: Three-tiered waterfall surrounded by dense greenery Conveniently located close to Shillong city Safe, well-maintained pathways and viewing platforms Excellent spot for photography and short nature walks Tips: Wear comfortable shoes — the steps can be steep and slippery. Visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds. The best time to visit is during or just after the monsoon for full water flow. Spend time at the bottom tier for the best views and photos.

Elephant Falls in Shillong is truly a natural gem and one of the most popular tourist spots in Meghalaya. The waterfall is divided into three layers, each offering a unique charm. The first tier is broad and calm, while the second and third drops are more powerful and picturesque. The view becomes increasingly beautiful as you go down the well-maintained stairway surrounded by lush greenery. The place is easily accessible from Shillong city, and the entry ticket is quite affordable. There are small shops near the entrance selling souvenirs, local snacks, and tea. The best time to visit is during or just after the monsoon when the water flow is at its peak. Photography lovers will find this place perfect for capturing nature’s beauty. However, be prepared for a bit of walking and stair climbing. Overall, Elephant Falls is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Shillong—peaceful, scenic, and refreshing!

The place is on the way to Mawphlang Sacred Forest. Approx 18km from Shillong. Its a nice spot. What all we can see and do 1. Entry fee - 100 per adult 2. 2 wheeler and 4 wheeler can be taken. 3. Refreshment and some locally made products can be bought from the shops at the entrance. 4. Three stage waterfalls is there. First is at the same level while for others you have to go down through stairs. 5. Garden on the other side of stage three water fall. 6. Bathing and Swimming is not at all allowed. 7. Average crowding.
ABHISHEK S — Google review
Simple, accessible, but not a very “natural” waterfall experience Elephant Falls is one of the easiest tourist spots to visit in Shillong. The waterfall has three levels, but honestly, it doesn’t fully feel like a natural, untouched waterfall because of the heavy tourist infrastructure around it. Still, it’s pleasant and good for quick sightseeing. What to know: 1. It doesn’t look like a raw natural falls — more like a landscaped tourist spot. 2. It can be crowded at times, especially on weekends. 3. Toilets are available right before the entrance, which is convenient. 4. Tickets are minimal, good for budget travellers. 5. The steps are easy, well-maintained, and not tiring at all — suitable for all age groups.

This is a must go destination while travelling in Shillong. The local Khasi name of the falls is Ka Kshaid Lai, which literally means waterfalls with three stages. You can not see all three stages together but you have to go down through stairs to visit each stage ......all three stages are very beautiful. The largest one is the third and lowest stage. This area also have plenty of parking and good food options. Also good for buying souvenirs.
Shouvik S — Google review
Elephant Falls is an okay-type waterfall - not particularly impressive compared to many others. I've seen far more beautiful waterfalls in Sikkim, and most of them don't even charge a visiting fee. Here, they take ₹100 per person just to enter, which feels unreasonable for what the place offers. On top of that, you need to pay for parking even if you leave your motorcycle on the roadside. Overall, the experience felt more like a money-making setup than a genuine tourist attraction.
Ikramul M — Google review
Indeed an elephant, This elephant falls has 3 falls, first at the top, then the mid- layer and then you land to the bottom. You need to trek for 15-20mins, the stairs are proper so won't be a difficult trek, it would be total of 150-200 steps. If you plan to visit elephant falls, please wear proper shoe as sandals might slip, rest everything is perfect 🙂

Shillong View Point, also known as Shillong Peak, is a popular destination for tourists and day-trippers. Located at an altitude of approximately 2000m above sea level and about 10km from the heart of Shillong City, it offers panoramic views of the city during the day and a mesmerizing sight of city lights at night.
Shillong View Point, also known as Laitkor Peak, truly deserves a 5-star rating. As the highest point in Meghalaya, at 1966 meters, the panoramic views are simply breathtaking. Located roughly 10 kilometers from Shillong city, the journey to the peak is an experience in itself. You'll need to park at the ticket counter and then take a short taxi ride through an Indian Air Force area, which adds a unique touch. The drive, though only 3 kilometers, is a peaceful and scenic ascent, maintained at a gentle 30 km/h. Keep in mind that this tranquil spot closes relatively early, around 4 PM, so plan your visit accordingly. The serene atmosphere and stunning vistas make it an unforgettable destination.

It's a good place to get an aerial view of Shillong city. It was good. The cars are not allowed inside. You need to get the tickets, pass and id proof go inside after verified by the police. And they will provide you the car to go inside also.

Shillong Viewpoint at Laitkor Peak was a mixed experience for me. The view itself is absolutely breathtaking—you get a sweeping panorama of the city, the hills, and on a clear day it feels magical, almost like floating above the clouds. That part really lived up to the hype and made the visit memorable. What disappointed me, though, was how commercialized the whole place felt. Instead of focusing on showcasing culture or giving visitors a deeper experience of the region, everything seemed centered around selling things—photo ops in traditional Khasi attire, snacks, and trinkets. The charm of the natural setting gets a bit overshadowed by the push for money. Despite that, I can’t deny the beauty of the viewpoint itself. The scenery makes it worth a visit, but the experience could have been so much richer if it celebrated the culture as much as the view. For me, it’s a solid 4/5.

“Where clouds guard the city of dreams.” From Shillong View Point, the world below looks like a painting — misty hills, tiny homes, and a city wrapped in clouds. The air carries peace, and the breeze feels like a soft melody from the mountains. 🌫️💚 Standing there, I felt time slow down, as if Shillong itself was smiling back at me. ✨

Just fantastic view. You require to hire a local car @Rs 200/- per car for max 4 people. The entry fee per person is Rs 50/- . The private vehicles are not allowed as it’s a Airforce premises. The view point is about 1.3 Km from the main gate of Airforce Unit of Shillong. You can enjoy nature while seeing the Shillong view from the peak. The view can be watched in very binocular by paying extra Rs 20/ per person The traditional Khasi Attire are available for Rs 100/- per person and you can click photographs for cherishing the moments for the life time. In total a must visit place

Shillong Peak: A Panoramic View with an Unexpected Twist Shillong Peak is one of the highest points in Meghalaya, offering an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the entire city and the surrounding hills. Standing at over 6,000 feet above sea level, the peak provides a breathtaking vantage point where you can see the lush landscapes, rolling hills, and the beauty of nature stretched out before you. On a clear day, the view is truly mesmerizing, with the clouds floating just above the city and the green hills fading into the horizon. One thing to note, though, is the presence of an army base nearby. While I was enjoying the serene atmosphere, I was startled by the sound of gunshots. It turns out there was army training happening in the vicinity, which added an unexpected and somewhat intense element to the experience. Although the gunshots were a bit jarring at first, it wasn’t a major disruption, and it reminded me of the strong military presence in the area. The drive to Shillong Peak is equally stunning, with winding roads and forested paths leading you to the top. The military guards at the entrance are friendly, and the area is well-maintained. Be prepared for some light security checks since the peak is located within a restricted military zone. Overall, Shillong Peak is a must-visit for anyone coming to Meghalaya. The view is unmatched, and while the gunshots from the army training might catch you off guard, they don’t take away from the natural beauty of the place. Just a small quirk of the experience that adds to the uniqueness of your visit!

Ward's Lake, also known as Pollock's Lake, is a picturesque non-natural lake located at the heart of Shillong city. Surrounded by lush green gardens and brightly colored flower beds, it serves as a popular attraction for both locals and tourists. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks around the horseshoe-shaped lake or simply relax amidst the vibrant flora.
🌟 Ward’s Lake – Shillong’s Little Slice of Peace Ward’s Lake is a beautiful escape right in the heart of Shillong. Surrounded by manicured gardens, colorful flowers, and shaded walking paths, it’s the kind of place where you instantly slow down. The highlight for me was the charming wooden bridge in the middle—it gives you a picture-perfect view of the lake and the reflections of the trees. Entry is just ₹20, and you can rent a pedal boat for a relaxed ride on the water. It’s clean, well-maintained, and perfect for families, couples, or even solo travelers looking for a calm stroll. The orchids and seasonal blooms add a splash of color, making it a photographer’s delight. In short: peaceful, well-kept, and a refreshing green break from the city’s buzz.

Ward’s Lake in Shillong was my second travel destination, and I had a really peaceful and pleasant experience there. The park is quite large and spread across a big area. It is located right along the main road, so it’s easy to find. There is an entry ticket, and plastic bottles or any kind of plastic items are not allowed inside, which helps keep the place clean and eco-friendly. Inside the park, there are many trees, a big lake with a lot of fish, and small birds flying around. Visitors often feed the fish, and the overall atmosphere is very calm and close to nature. The park is well maintained. Cleaning staff are present and regularly keep the area clean. There is also a small section near a pool where you can rent traditional local dresses and take photos, which is a fun experience. A small café inside the park offers light snacks and drinks, so you can sit and relax for a while. This place is good for walking, relaxing, spending time in nature, and clicking photos. I would definitely recommend visiting it if you're in Shillong.

At first we were really concerned how we would be able to climb th 7 storeys but soon after entering a staff member kindly directed us to a lift that took us to the top sky walk and we could enjoy all floors (a MUST visit) strolling down. A men's or Ladies toilet on every single floor makes it Senior friendly. The collection is a comprehensive and superb one. We came back knowing a lot about all 7 North East (sister) States! Your entry to Meghalaya when you drive into Shillong from Guwahati. It is a sports complex which has been developer around a man made lake fed by rainwater. Plenty of parking, great views, decent washrooms and the speed boat experience was excellent and felt safe as well. Charging an entry fee seems excessive if a person is boating then perhaps it could be refunded( because it is quite high 50 pp, while boating is 200). Lovely clean air and clear skies make a very good experience.

Water is pretty. Boating was quite expensive. The boat guy did not behaved well tho, we asked him to slow down a bit cuz the boat was literally jumping and we couldn’t balance well. He did not respond , it was like he was pretty annoyed from the start. He did not slow down and when we asked him to slow down the second time he replied ‘its like this only’. It was only one round for 8min after paying 600 for 3 people. There is no good eatery inside. I’d give my experience 7.5/10.

A Tranquil Jewel Just Outside Shillong Umiam Lake is, without doubt, one of the crown jewels of Meghalaya. Just a short drive from Shillong’s hustle - around 15 km from Police Bazar - this place opens up into a vast, glimmering expanse of water cradled by rolling green hills. It’s the kind of place that makes you pause, breathe, and forget time altogether. The surroundings are peaceful and beautifully kept - perfect for an afternoon stroll or simply sitting by the shore with a flask of tea. Boating here is a real treat - hop onto a shared speedboat or take a kayak out if you fancy a bit more quiet. Either way, the views are sublime, especially as the sun starts to dip and the sky reflects off the lake’s calm surface. Before reaching the lake entrance, there’s a lovely little viewpoint worth stopping for. You’ll find some fast food stalls there too - nothing fancy, but great for a quick bite with a view. Whether you’re into photography, nature, or just a bit of soul-soothing stillness, Umiam Lake is a must. A gentle reminder of how spectacular simplicity can be.

My visit to Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Temple was a truly divine experience. Located in the serene surroundings of Guwahati, this temple is a beautiful replica of the famous Tirupati Balaji Temple of Andhra Pradesh. The architecture is grand and detailed, reflecting traditional South Indian temple design with intricate carvings and a peaceful ambiance. The moment I entered the temple premises, the calm environment and the chants of Lord Balaji’s name created a spiritual atmosphere. The temple is well-maintained and very clean. The priests are polite and help guide visitors through the rituals. There’s also a separate section for other deities like Lord Ganesha and Goddess Padmavati. The best time to visit is in the morning or evening during the aarti, when the entire temple glows beautifully with lamps and devotional music. Parking facilities and basic amenities are available for visitors, making it a convenient stop for families and pilgrims. Overall, Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Temple is not just a place of worship but also a perfect spot to find peace and connect spiritually amidst nature. A must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Guwahati.

This temple is worth visiting if you are traveling to Guwahati, Assam. It serves as a good option in the region (Assam/Northeast) for devotees of Balaji / South‑Indian style Vishnu worship, without having to travel to Tirupati. PROS: 1. ARCHITECTURE OF THE TEMPLE: The architecture is truly gorgeous: it follows the South‑Indian (Dravidian) style, with a white‑granite facade, tall gopuram (entrance tower) and well‑carved pillars. 2. AMBIENCE AND MAINTENANCE: Both the ambience and maintenance are good: The temple grounds are clean, the landscaping is nice, and the overall environment is peaceful. 3. GOOD FACILITIES: There’s ample parking, gardens or open spaces around for families or for spending some time beyond just “darshan”. 4. RITUALS & SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE: The main deity (Lord Venkateswara/“Balaji”) is carved from a single stone of ~4 tons as reported, giving it a sense of grandeur. CONS: 1. PHOTOGRAPHY IS RESTRICTED: Photography inside the temple is restricted / not allowed in certain areas. In my opinion, this is a good restriction since people nowadays are more into taking photos rather than actually 'see'ing and experiencing the place as a whole. 2. CROWDS: At peak times (weekends, festivals) it can get crowded — though the crowding is manageable because the grounds are large. OVERALL VERDICT: This temple is worth visiting, especially if you are in or around Guwahati (Assam) and looking for a spiritually significant, well‑maintained temple dedicated to Lord Balaji / Venkateswara with South Indian architectural flavour. It offers a good blend of devotion + comfortable facilities. It may not feel as remote or “ancient” as some very old temples in hill‑locations, but for its location and style it delivers strongly. PRACTICAL TIPS: • Try to go in the morning or early in the afternoon to avoid most of the crowd. • Wear modest clothing; since the architectural style is South Indian and the setting formal, it’s better to be respectful in attire. • Be aware of the “no photography” rule inside the main sanctum/temple — you can probably take pictures of the exterior and gardens. •If you’re travelling by your own vehicle, parking seems available and convenient. • Spend a little extra time in the gardens/grounds if you like a quieter reflection; the open space is definitely a plus. • Check the timing of the aarti/puja if you wish to attend it — the aarti adds to the experience.

The Balaji Temple in Guwahati, often called "Purva Tirupati," is a striking and serene South Indian-style temple that feels like a piece of Tirupati transported to the Northeast. It's dedicated to Lord Venkateswara and immediately impresses with its towering, pristine white gopuram (entrance tower) and intricate carvings that tell stories of devotion. Inside, you'll find a grand idol of Lord Balaji, carved from a single, massive stone, along with shrines for Goddess Padmavati and Garuda. The overall atmosphere is incredibly peaceful and spiritual, a welcome escape from the city's hustle. Beyond being a place of worship, it's also an architectural marvel, especially when lit up at night, and often hosts cultural events. It really stands out for its blend of sacred tradition and impressive craftsmanship, making it a significant spiritual and visual landmark.
Priyanka S — Google review
If someone ever told you that to meet Lord Venkateswara you need to climb the hills of Tirumala and brave an ocean of devotees — hold your bells! Because nestled quietly in the green lap of Betkuchi, Guwahati, the majestic Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Temple offers all the South Indian serenity and sacredness, without needing you to pack your trekking shoes. This pristine white marble marvel, inaugurated in 1998, feels like someone hand-carried a slice of Tamil Nadu and lovingly placed it in Assam’s cultural thali. The architecture is authentically Dravidian, the priests speak fluent Tamil and Sanskrit, and the overall vibe is — how do we say it — divine, with a side of filter coffee soulfulness. Facts That’ll Make You Go “Oh Wow” (Or at Least Nod Thoughtfully) - Built by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and funded largely by devotees and temple trusts, it serves as a spiritual and cultural bridge between South and Northeast India. - The main deity, Lord Venkateswara (Balaji), is flanked by shrines dedicated to Padmavathi Devi and Garuda, his eternal wingman (literally). - The temple is adorned with intricate granite carvings and South Indian-style gopurams, making it Instagram-worthy even if you're not religious. - A community hall and meditation centre nearby offer both spiritual nourishment and spaces for events, yoga, and discourses. Why It's Totally Worth Your Time (and Pranam) - The temple isn’t just a place of worship — it’s a peaceful escape from the noisy world, ideal for soul-searching or simply soul-soothing. - Evening aarti here is a spectacle — chants, lamps, and that surreal sense of “all-is-well” washing over you. - Entry is free, and the crowd is usually well-behaved — making it senior-citizen and family friendly. Reflections: If you ever find yourself in Guwahati needing a spiritual recharge — or just an hour away from traffic and tapori music — this temple delivers tranquility in temple bell-sized doses. Final Verdict: A pocket of peace and piety in Assam that feels like a divine southern detour. You don’t need Google Maps to find peace here — just a little faith.

Perched atop Nilachal hill in Guwahati, Assam, India, the Maa Kamakhya Temple is an ancient Hindu pilgrimage site dating back to the 7th century. It is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya and is considered one of the most sacred places of pilgrimage in India. The temple is part of the 51 Shakti Peethas and holds great significance for both Hindus and Tantric worshipers.
Visiting Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati was a deeply spiritual and unforgettable experience. The temple, situated atop Nilachal Hill, offers a serene atmosphere with a breathtaking view of the Brahmaputra River. The energy and divine presence here are truly powerful, and one can instantly feel a sense of peace and devotion. The architecture is ancient and mesmerizing, with intricate carvings that reflect Assam’s rich heritage. The temple is well-managed, and despite the crowds, the darshan was smooth and organized. Local priests and volunteers were very helpful in guiding devotees. My experience of offering prayers and witnessing the rituals felt very pure and soulful. The surroundings are clean, with facilities available for devotees, and shops nearby for prasad and essentials. Kamakhya Temple is not just a place of worship but a sacred journey—one that connects you deeply with the divine mother. A must-visit for anyone traveling to Guwahati. Entry fees 500 waiting time is 4hrs aprx. Without entry fees cant visit the main sanctum sanctorum however one can have a sneak peak darshan from distance.

Maa Kamakhya Temple is a powerful and spiritually enriching place. It sits on Nilachal Hill and offers a beautiful view of Guwahati city. The atmosphere feels truly divine, and the temple architecture is unique. However, the crowd can be heavy, especially during mornings and festivals, so it's better to visit early. You can reach the temple by cab or shared auto from the main city. Despite the rush, the experience feels peaceful and memorable.

Whether you go for spiritual reasons or cultural exploration, this temple will leave you with a sense of peace and positivity. ⭐ 5/5 — A must-visit for anyone coming to Guwahati. Jai Maa Kamakhya!

It is better to purchase the VIP tickets online which opens 7 days before. It is being sold out immediately. Better to purchase at 12.01 am 7 days before. It costs Rs.500 per head. If you go by 7 am, you can come out in 2 hours after Darshan. Tuesdays and Saturdays, there will be huge rush. The temple is maintained privately, I believe. The most powerful Shakthi Peet. Must visit at least once.

It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, believed to be the spot where the goddess Sati's yoni (womb) fell. 🌺🙏🌺 জয় মা কামাখ্যা 🌺🙏🌺 One of the oldest sati pith among the 51st sati piths of the goddess Maa Parvati. The temple was situated on the Nilachal hills outside Guwahati City, Assam in Kamakhya Locality. The main temple was built in an ancient structure and some new structures were built later in front of the main temple 🙏 One can purchase VIP tickets for ₹ 500 per person to visit the গর্ভগৃহ... This was very much disgusting‼️ The temple management authority should take some appropriate actions to avoid this and open the main temple, গর্ভগৃহ, for all the devotees. They should also look at the cleanliness of the temple premises and queue management very seriously‼️

Visiting Maa Kamakhya was a journey of spiritual awakening. Nestled in Simanchal Hills in Assam it is one of the important shakipeeths. You can either get general ticket which is a bit costly or you can get VIP tickets which are available at ₹501. You can get VIP tickets online as well but you have to book it in advance at least a week ago as they sell very fast. The worship items are sold at shops located outside the temple and you can also keep your shoes here. It took us 13 hours to worship Maa Kamakhya but it was totally worth it.

"Bhubaneswari Mandir, perched atop Nilachal Hill, is a spiritual haven! I've had the privilege of visiting twice - first as a 9-year-old with my grandparents, and then 18 years later with my family in February 2025. The breathtaking view from the temple is simply divine. The serenity, the energy, and the connection to the goddess are palpable. Maa Bhubaneswari's grace and protection envelop me, and I feel at peace. The temple's scenic beauty adds to the spiritual experience. I'm grateful for the opportunity to worship and connect with the divine feminine. 🙏🏽❤️"

The Bhubaneswari temple, a white shrine, is perched atop a hill adjacent to the city. Dedicated to Goddess Bhubaneshwari, the temple is visited by large number of tourists from across the country every year. From the temple, views of sunset on the Brahamputra River are available. The temple is situated high upon a hill which takes a 20 minutes' walk from the bus stand.

Located near the Kamakhya Temple. PROS: 1. Spiritual Ambience & tranquil nature: The temple offers a peaceful space for worship and reflection. Since it’s not as crowded as nearby Kamakhya Temple, you can enjoy a more relaxed spiritual experience. 2. Scenic Views: It’s perched on Nilachal Hill, a little higher than Kamakhya. From the temple, you can get panoramic views of Guwahati city and the Brahmaputra River. Great for photo‑opportunity, taking in nature, especially around sunrise or sunset. 3. Easy to Combine with Kamakhya Visit: Because of its proximity, Bhubaneswari Temple is a must-visit as part of the Kamakhya‑temple tour. If you’re already making the trip up the hill, adding Bhubaneswari doesn’t take too much extra effort. 4. Good during Festivals: The temple becomes especially lively during Ambubachi, Navratri, Manasa Puja, etc. These times offer an immersive cultural and devotional experience. AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: 1. Attraction Value (for Tourists): If you’re going purely for architectural splendor or sightseeing, you might find Bhubaneswari less impressive compared to big temples. There’s less ornamentation, fewer facilities, fewer shops, etc. It may appeal more to those seeking calm or spiritual fulfilment than grand tourist appeal. 3. Steep/Stair Climb: There are stairs/paths up the hill. For elderly people or those with mobility issues, this could be a factor. Proper footwear, planning for rest, etc. help. 4. Crowds during Peak Times: During festivals or special days, there will be a lot more devotees. That means more waiting, more congestion. If you're sensitive to crowds, going during off‑peak hours helps. TIPS IF YOU WISH TO VISIT: • Go early morning or late afternoon for cooler weather, softer light, fewer people. • Wear modest clothing, comfortable shoes. • Carry water, perhaps some snack. Little shops nearby likely exist but always good to be self‑sufficient. • If visiting during a festival, plan ahead (accommodation, travel, timings). • Respect temple customs (e.g. removing shoes, dress code). MY OVERALL TAKE: If you like places that combine nature + spirituality + a calm setting, Bhubaneswari Temple is definitely worth a stop. It may not blow your mind if you're expecting huge ornate temples, but its charm is in its tranquility, views, and spiritual atmosphere. It’s a refreshing place in contrast to more “busy” temples.

Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, located in Guwahati, India, is a renowned destination for wildlife enthusiasts and families. Established in 1957, this expansive sanctuary houses a diverse range of exotic animals and serves as a crucial conservation site for endangered species such as the Indian rhinoceros and white tiger. Visitors can also explore the botanical garden's extensive collection of indigenous and exotic plants that enhance the lush landscape.
One of the best zoo I have ever visited. The zoo was quite huge and has large variety of animal and species. Really loved it. It will take approximately 3-4 hours to see the entire zoo by walk. This zoo will definitely give you real wildlife vibe in the mid of forest.
Hriday P — Google review
Visited this zoo during with high expectations and I was disappointed to see it in a bad condition. I went with high expectations because this zoo is located in a big city and I thought that it would be filled with various unique animals but I was disappointed to see only a few deers, hog deers, snakes and some other common animals. Many cages were empty with no animals inside. The price of the ticket is ₹33 for adults and you can book it online as well. I have visited Patna zoo which I think was much better than this place. Some construction work was also going on inside the zoo, maybe after the construction is complete this place will become great but for now I think It's best to avoid this place if you are a tourist roaming around Guwahati.

Assam State Zoo Cum Botanical Garden » NaparksThe name of the main zoo in Assam is the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, located in Guwahati. It is the largest zoo in northeastern India and is also referred to as the Guwahati Zoo. Explore Assam State Zoo Botanical Garden: See kangaroos, white deer, zebras, birds, lions, tigers, hippos, and crocodiles. Assam State Zoo is a nice place to visit with family and kids. It has a good variety of animals, birds, and reptiles, and the botanical garden adds to the greenery. The place is spacious and gives a natural vibe, but maintenance could be improved in some areas. Food and drinking water options are limited inside . Overall, a good spot for a day outing in Guwahati.

Visited the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden recently, but the experience was quite underwhelming. The zoo is smaller than expected, and many enclosures were empty, which was disappointing. Some parts were under construction, making it difficult to explore properly. We could only see a few common animals. The place has potential but needs better maintenance, more animals, and proper management to attract visitors again.

Ticket Fare: Rs. 33/- for adults. Online ticket is also available. Same price in both offline and online. Bio toilets available inside this place. I think 2 to 3 hours needed to cover the entire area. Almost every cells were fulfilled. Really very worthy place. A good place for spending weekend. Remains closed on Friday.
Suman P — Google review
FRIDAY CLOSED The ZOO in Assam was great, but nowadays it seems to be diminishing its valued day by day. On my recent visit to the zoo, I was unable to find any structured system except the bottle returning scheme. The e-carts are very irregular and the roads are very disturbing. The cages were broken and rusted, morever most of the animals were not available. I hope the govt of Assam will take necessary steps to "make the Zoo great again" Positive views can be seen as most of the parts were under construction.
Arindom B — Google review
Visited Assam State Zoo last weekend. Overall a good place to hang out if you love nature and animals. Lot of greenery inside and many animals like tiger, rhino, deer, bear, and different types of birds. The place is peaceful and good for families or friends. But honestly, some areas are not well maintained. Few animal cages looked old and water ponds were dirty in some spots. They should improve that part. Entry ticket is cheap — ₹30 per person, which is worth it. You can also take an electric cart if you don’t want to walk, but walking is better to enjoy the surroundings. Good for a one-time visit in Guwahati. If you’re coming from outside, keep at least 2 hours in hand. Would have given 5 stars if maintenance was better.

This temple is one of the ancient temples in India as well as Assam, a very beautiful place and surrounded by mother nature, and anyone can google about this temple if you want to know more about this temple. But my main concern is regarding the cleanliness and the pujari system. Immediately after parking people are asking for buying puja materials then after entering the temple pujaris are telling me to give money here and there and after coming out of the temple I visited the pond to see the turtle 🐢, and my goodness the pond was so dirty and full of algae. The temple authority should maintain the pond as well as the surroundings of the temple.

I had the best experience of travelling to Shillong and Guwahati with Anshuman travels. It was very well coordinated . The car arrived on time at the airport and the chauffer was very punctual and we'll behaved. The hotels they provided were standard and trustworthy with quality rooms and food. Also I got back my set of airdopes which I lost at the hotel room entirely at their initiative. I highly recommend Anshuman travels!!

Do not use this travel agent; he earns massive cuts from drivers and hotels and is not committed to a good service. We were travelling from England to see Kaziranga Nature Reserve and for our 6 day trip, Anshuman Travels booked us to visit Kaziranga on the last day, which would have been fine except we realised after reaching Assam that on the last two days of our trip, the safaris were cancelled owing to Gaja Mahotsav. This was a shock and disappointing to say the least as we missed the most looked forward to part of our long-planned trip. Anshuman did not take any responsibility for this and did not rearrange things for us. We were encouraged by positive reviews online but had an awful experience with this agent. The hotels booked were sub-standard and the agent did not take any responsibility for changing things for us. Instead, he cancelled our bookings and did not return our money. He took Rs 30,000 advance and only provided services worth Rs 21,000. He cancelled our bookings and left us stranded without a booked hotel for four nights. Since we were travelling with children and parents, this left us in a precarious situation. Very sad that this should happen to anyone. No apology rendered; not even money refunded for services not provided.

We took the services of Anshuman travels to execute our 8 days Assam and Meghalaya trip in March 2023. Biswas da is very responsive and prompt with his inputs and iternary planning. We were assigned a dedicated cab and driver for the entire week. Our driver Biplob was prompt from airport pick up to dropping us back after a week. He is a very good driver and also helped us finding vegetarian hotels across the tour. During the tour Biswas da was very quick to address a few challenges that came our way. He was also very helpful with his inputs on elephant safari and Brahmaputra cruise. Over all I recommend there services if you are planning a north east trip.

Whenever next if we plan a tour to north-east we will once again take the services of Anshuman Travels & recommend to other travellers also. The trip was nicely organised and even though we had many intermittent changes in our plans, our host Swarnendu provided us with good alternatives... Although admittedly the driver of our Innova was at times not as cooperative as we would have liked, all in all it was an amazing experience. The hotels were also very good and the overall experience was just amazing and a week that will be etched in our memories forever.

Orang National Park: A Glimpse of Assam's Wildlife Orang National Park, situated between the Darrang and Sonitpur districts of Assam, offers a unique glimpse into the diverse wildlife of the region. While the tiger population, currently estimated at around 38, is a significant draw, the park boasts a rich biodiversity beyond the elusive big cat. The park provides a haven for a healthy population of Indian rhinoceros and elephants, making sightings a rewarding experience. The presence of migratory birds during certain seasons adds another layer of interest, attracting birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The jeep safari is a highlight, offering thrilling opportunities to spot wildlife in their natural habitat. However, a notable drawback is the limited availability of food and lodging options near the park. This can pose a challenge for visitors, especially those planning extended stays. Despite this limitation, Orang National Park remains a valuable conservation area and a worthwhile destination for wildlife enthusiasts. The park's efforts to protect its diverse ecosystem are commendable, and it plays a crucial role in safeguarding endangered species.

Being a nature lover ,I loved this national park. Cut off from locality, this park has thick jungle and tall grass covers the whole area. Thus difficult to sight wildlife most of the time. People don't like secluded area and silence should avoid this park. This park has one division and covers around 2296 square km area . This park has grass and wood lands. Deers are found in large numbers and can be seen at the entrance of the park also. Rhino numbers are also increasing. We saw wild boar and wild elephants also apart from deer and rhino . I spotted many species of resident birds too. Overall a very good experience for me Jeep and elephant safari is available in this park. But due to lack of staff and infrastructure the forest department can't handle many tourists. And I wish only nature and wildlife lovers should go to this park to keep this place unspoiled .

A wonderful experience indeed. Stay at the Forest Inspection Bungalow deep into the forest was just awesome. Met a large tusker just after entering the park. Though the jeep safari did not bear any fruit but the view from the IB was mesmerizing and saw many animals including elephant, rhino, wild boar, deers, birds etc. from the comfort of the IB. The view from the backyard of the IB is something to remember for lifetime. Overall a great stay.

Agnigarh

Mentioned on

Park
Nature & Parks
Agnigarh is a famous hillside area with a rich history rooted in Hindu mythology. The park features numerous historic sculptures and offers breathtaking viewpoints of the surrounding area, including the Brahmaputra river. However, visitors should be prepared to climb several steps to reach the top, which may be difficult for elderly individuals. Once at the summit, visitors can enjoy a small park and garden while admiring a bird's eye view from the watchtower.
This fortress is at such a beautiful location. View of Brahmaputra at evening hour must be breathtaking. I visited in the noon so it was quite warm but the garden is worth spending time and knowing the history of king Bana and his daughter Usha. Sculpture representation of historic events is done in a nice way. Entry ticket is 30rs per head. Parking is 30rs. About 500 steps to climb up to go till the top. The climb is worth..
Shweta K — Google review
If Romeo and Juliet had a Northeast Indian reboot with a fiery twist, it would be set atop the Agnigarh Hill — a place where love quite literally burned bright. Welcome to the iconic Agnigarh Fort in Tezpur, Assam — where history meets mythology with a dash of Bollywood-level drama and panoramic views to boot. What's in a Name? ‘Agni’ means fire, and ‘Garh’ means fortress. Put them together and voilà – you get the "Fire Fortress". Built to keep lovers apart (yes, seriously), this hill was supposedly surrounded by perpetual flames, making it the medieval version of a “do not disturb” sign. According to local legends from the Mahabharata, this is where Princess Usha, daughter of demon king Banasura, was imprisoned after she fell in love with Aniruddha, the grandson of Lord Krishna. Daddy dearest didn’t approve (obviously), so he locked her up in this lava-ringed love prison. Because nothing says “no boyfriend” like a fire moat! Mythology + Romance = Must Visit Today, there’s no fire — just stairs (a lot of them!) — that take you to the top where the fort ruins sit like a wise old sage. There are beautifully sculpted statues that narrate the whole Usha-Aniruddha saga, perfect for that “deep in thought” selfie. And the view? Oh, the view! You get a sweeping panorama of the majestic Brahmaputra River, the town of Tezpur, and if you're lucky, a cloud photobomb or two. It's like nature gave Agnigarh a cinematic filter. Fun Facts to Brag About: - Agnigarh is one of the oldest mythologically significant sites in Assam. - It has a spiral staircase pathway with murals and storytelling sculptures – basically, Game of Thrones meets Amar Chitra Katha. - The spot is popular with couples – ironic, considering it was built to prevent romance. Final Verdict Agnigarh is not just a fort, it’s an emotion. Equal parts romantic and rebellious, it's ideal for history buffs, hopeless romantics, and sweaty trekkers alike.

Assam's one of the important historical place. The park was well maintained when we visited this place. Lord krishna is associated with this place. Nice experience. We could witnessed the beauty of river Brahmaputra.❤️
Nitul K — Google review
It is a historical place from which the name of the city “Tezpur” derived. It is said that this is place where the daughter of King Banasura was kept isolated. Later the war between Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva took place, which led the name of the place. Anirudha, the grandson of Lord Krishna was being attracted by the Prince Usha, got married later. King Banasura (who was the devotee of Lord Shiva) arrested him on hearing this news. It led the war between Banasura and Krishna. However being the devotee of Shiva, Lord Shiva came to rescue and it was place of blood when the war had started between Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna. Lord Vishnu came to end this war later. The entry fee is Rs 30 for adults and Rs 10 for minors. However, there is no maintenance, no proper description neither clean properly. The authority should take action to keep the sentiments and mythological beliefs intact. It has a watch tower from where the city and the surroundings, including majestic view of River Bramhaputra can be seen. But still need proper maintenance!

Agnigarh (অগ্নিগড়) is one of the most beautiful and historically rich tourist spots in Tezpur, Assam. The place is deeply connected with the famous love story of Princess Usha, daughter of King Bana, and Aniruddha, the grandson of Lord Krishna. According to legend, King Bana built a fortress surrounded by fire to keep Usha away from Aniruddha, and that is how the place got its name – “Agnigarh” (Fort of Fire). Today, when you visit Agnigarh, you can still feel the essence of those stories through the artistic sculptures and statues built along the pathways. These sculptures beautifully depict the legendary tale, making the visit not only scenic but also culturally meaningful. The hilltop location provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Brahmaputra River and Tezpur town. 🌿 The climb is not very difficult, and the pathways are well-maintained. It’s a peaceful spot to enjoy nature, take photographs, or simply sit and relax. During the evening, especially around sunset, the atmosphere becomes magical. I found the area very clean and visitor-friendly, with enough space to walk and spend time with family or friends. It’s also a great place for students and tourists who want to learn about Assam’s mythology and heritage. Overall, Agnigarh is not just a tourist attraction but a blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. A must-visit place in Tezpur for anyone who wants to explore the heritage of Assam. – Priyanuj Hazarika (Local Guide)

Don't skip this on your way to the Kaziranga safari adventure. It only takes a few hours on your way to the park, and it is a good cultural experience of the people in the region, and the orchid garden is quite lovely. You will see so many variants of native and non-native orchids, and learn how they grow and thrive. There are a few other agricultural and cultural displays (traditional dancing, rice/miller education etc) you can see as well.

They perform dances on stage, I think they do it all day round, we came there just after the morning safari and saw it at least twice, so it's hard to miss it.

Sri Sri Mahabhairab Temple

Mentioned on
1 list
Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
The Mahabhairab Temple, believed to be constructed in the 8th century by demon king Banasur, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple premises are well-maintained with basic facilities and have significant historical and religious importance. The Shiv linga present in the temple is considered lively and growing. Visitors can witness the morning Aarti, which is performed divinely, and feed pigeons that flock around the area.
Tucked away on the tranquil hillocks of Tezpur, the iconic Mahabhairab Temple isn't just a spiritual pitstop — it’s a soul-stirring experience, where mythology, mystery, and mountain breeze come together in poetic rhythm. Dedicated to Lord Shiva in his fearsome Bhairava avatar, this ancient shrine feels like a chapter from an old scripture — one that still breathes. Legend has it, and Assamese grandmothers will happily vouch for it, that King Banasura, a zealous devotee of Shiva and a mythological figure himself, founded this temple. The shivlinga housed here is believed to be one of the largest in India, carved out of a single stone and possibly dating back to the 8th to 10th century CE, though some whisper it’s even older. Fascinating Nuggets to Digest Before You Bow: - The temple's name — “Mahabhairab” — literally translates to the Great Terrifying One, and yet the vibe is soothing, almost meditative. A paradox only Shiva could pull off. - It comes alive during Shivratri, when devotees queue up in serpentine lines (pun intended), and the air is thick with chants, incense, and an unmistakable scent of divinity (and jalebis). - Local lore claims the original lingam was self-manifested (Swayambhu) and that Shiva himself appeared here in Bhairava form to bless his devotee Banasura. - It’s managed today by the State Government of Assam, preserving not just the structure but the legacy it holds for both pilgrims and curious wanderers. My Reverie: There’s something timeless about Mahabhairab Temple — perhaps it’s the whispering pines, the distant bells, or the sensation that you’re standing at a spiritual crossroads where the past and present exchange pleasantries. Whether you're a devout pilgrim or a history buff with a penchant for ancient secrets, this temple offers a slice of serenity with a dollop of divinity. Final Thought: Go for the blessings, stay for the energy. And while you're at it, breathe in that Tezpur air — it's laced with legends.

This monastery located on the upper reaches of Bomdila is also known as Gentse Gaden Rabgyel Lling Monastery. It was built in 1965 by the 12th reincarnate of Tsona Gontse Rinpoche. Found the monastery to be very vibrant and active as it houses a large number of boys and young men who are being imparted training to become lamas. As this monastery is located on an elevated area, it offers an aerial view of Bomdila.

On the way back to Guwahati from Tawang, we decided to stay at Bomdila due low visibility on road. In the morning, we made a small detour to Bomdilla Monastery. Some festivals/ prayers were going on at the morning (8.30 AM). The students there offered us a local tibetan sweet delicacy made out of pasta and yak cheese. Then they offered us salty tea with yak milk. The experience was surreal.

Bomdila Monastery, located in the serene hills of Arunachal Pradesh, is a peaceful and spiritually uplifting place that beautifully reflects Tibetan Buddhist culture. Also known as the Gontse Gaden Rabgyel Lling Monastery, it offers stunning views of the surrounding Himalayas and the Bomdila valley below. The monastery’s architecture is vibrant and intricate, with colorful murals and prayer flags that create a tranquil, sacred atmosphere. Visitors often praise the calmness of the place — it’s less crowded than many other monasteries, making it ideal for quiet reflection. The monks are welcoming, and if you visit during prayer sessions, the rhythmic chants and sounds of the drums are truly mesmerizing. Overall, Bomdila Monastery is not just a religious site but also a cultural gem — a perfect stop for anyone seeking peace, beauty, and a glimpse into the spiritual life of Arunachal Pradesh

Bomdila Monastery, also called Gentse Gaden Rabgyel Lling, is a beautiful Buddhist monastery in Arunachal Pradesh. Built in 1965, it’s known for its peaceful vibe, prayer hall, Buddha temple, and monk school. It resembles the Tsona Gontse Monastery in South Tibet and holds great importance for Mahayana Buddhists.

************ Om Ma-ni Pad-me Hum ***************** Visited Bomdila Buddhist Monastery during my solo trip to Bomdila while staying at the Circuit House. Every evening after working remotely, I would take a 40-minute trek up to the monastery, and it quickly became the highlight of my stay. Perched on top of a mountain, the monastery offers a breathtaking view of the valley below and an atmosphere of absolute peace and serenity. The quiet surroundings, the gentle breeze, and the sound of prayer flags fluttering in the wind created a sense of calm that’s hard to describe. It was the perfect place to unwind, reflect, and find inner stillness after a long day. Truly a must-visit spot in Bomdila — not just for its beauty, but for the sense of peace it brings to the soul.

Bodies of Water
Sela Pass, located in the border district of Tawang, is a high-altitude pass known for its sacred Buddhist lake and year-round snow cover. The pass holds historical significance as it connects the Tawang district to the rest of the country and was a site of valiant battles during the 1962 war. Visitors can pay their respects at Jaswantgarh War Memorial, dedicated to martyr Jaswant Rawat.
An awe-inspiring destination nestled in the Eastern Himalayas, Sela Pass is nothing short of breathtaking. At over 13,700 feet, the pass offers snow-covered landscapes, pristine views, and an atmosphere so serene it feels almost sacred. But what truly makes Sela Pass special is the silent strength of our Indian Army personnel who stand guard here, enduring extreme cold and harsh conditions to protect our nation. Their presence at such high-altitude posts is nothing short of heroic. It’s humbling to witness their dedication and courage in a region where survival itself is a challenge. The journey through Sela Pass is filled with winding roads, frozen lakes, and patches of untouched snow — every turn offers a postcard-worthy view. Whether you're a nature lover or someone seeking a deeper sense of patriotism, this place will move you. Visiting Sela Pass is not just about the landscape — it's about honoring the spirit of our brave soldiers. Salute to their unwavering duty and sacrifices. A must-visit for every Indian.

Can never get tired of this place and this road. Looks like you are climbing to the skies. Now that the tunnel is there, the pass and lake has become a tourist thing rather than a road people take to Tawang and back. It's good we have the tunnel but nothing beats the experience of this cold and wind at 4000 metres from sea level. A driver's paradise!

It’s a beautiful and chilly place. Sela Pass sits at an altitude of around 13,700 feet. The main Sela Gate is about 200 meters from the pass, and just below it lies the stunning Sela Lake which is surrounded by mountains. Right in front of Sela Pass, there’s a small stall where you can enjoy a warm cup of tea or coffee, cold drinks or energy drinks, some noodles, and a few snacks.

I recently visited Sela Pass in October 2025, and it was one of the most mesmerizing places I’ve ever seen. Located at an altitude of over 13,000 feet, Sela Pass connects Tawang with the rest of Arunachal Pradesh and offers a breathtaking view of snow-covered peaks and crystal-clear lakes. The famous Sela Lake, surrounded by snow even in early winter, adds to the magic of the place — it’s truly a photographer’s paradise. The air up there is crisp and cold, and the whole area feels peaceful and surreal. It’s the kind of place where you can simply stop, breathe, and take in the beauty of nature in its purest form. However, the journey to Sela Pass is quite challenging, with winding roads, sharp turns, and changing weather conditions. Drivers should be cautious, especially during snowfall or fog, as visibility can drop quickly. There are very few shops or food stalls near the pass, so it’s wise to carry your own snacks and warm beverages. The temperature can drop suddenly, so wearing proper winter clothing is essential. Despite the tough road, the view from Sela Pass is worth every effort. It’s one of those rare places that makes you feel both peaceful and amazed at the same time. Overall, Sela Pass is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Tawang a stunning blend of natural beauty, serenity, and adventure that will stay with you forever.

Sela Pass, perched at an altitude of approximately 13,700 feet (4,170 meters), stands out as one of India’s most spectacular high-altitude mountain gateways, connecting the Tawang and West Kameng districts in Arunachal Pradesh. The journey to reach Sela Pass is both exhilarating and rewarding, with winding roads that are often sheathed in snow through winter and splashed with greenery during summer. The drive itself, though challenging due to sometimes rough road conditions and rapidly changing weather, is compensated by panoramic views of the majestic Eastern Himalayas and a sense of serene remoteness. The crown jewel of Sela Pass is the tranquil Sela Lake, referred to locally as Paradise Lake, which lies just beside the pass. In winter, the lake frequently freezes over, offering a breathtaking icy spectacle, while in other seasons, its pristine blue waters mirror the open Himalayan skies. The sight of rhododendrons blooming in spring only enhances its allure. The spiritual significance of the area is marked by the presence of over a hundred sacred lakes nearby, cherished by the region’s Buddhist communities. The pass is also steeped in local history and folklore, including the tale of Sela and Indian Army hero Jaswant Singh Rawat, whose bravery is commemorated at nearby Jaswant Garh. There’s a simple army café at the top where visitors can enjoy a hot drink while soaking in the views. For any traveler exploring Arunachal Pradesh, Sela Pass is an unmissable destination—a harmonious blend of stunning scenery, adventure, and cultural heritage.

This is the nature created by God, which does not bother to look at. The lake is so so beautiful. There are tea stalls near the lake. The Sela Pass gate is 150 meters away from the lake. There is an army camp also near the lake.

Sela Pass is one of those places that truly takes your breath away, both literally and figuratively. Located at around 13,700 feet, it connects Bomdila and Tawang and offers absolutely stunning views of snow-covered peaks and crystal-clear Sela Lake. The drive up can be a bit challenging, especially during the colder months, but the scenery makes every turn worth it. When I visited, it was quite busy since it was the holiday season, but once I stepped out and took in the cold mountain air, everything felt peaceful. The frozen lake, prayer flags fluttering in the wind, and the quiet stillness all created a sense of calm that’s hard to describe. If you’re traveling from Dirang or Tawang, try to start early to enjoy the sunrise views and avoid traffic. Also, be prepared for sudden weather changes, it can get really cold and foggy in no time. Overall, Sela Pass is not just a place to pass through, it’s a destination in itself, where nature, spirituality, and adventure come together beautifully.

The Jaswantgarh War Memorial is one of the most emotional and inspiring places I’ve ever visited. Located amidst the breathtaking hills of Arunachal Pradesh, near the Tawang–Sela Pass route, this memorial is not just a tourist stop — it’s a sacred place that fills you with pride, respect, and deep emotion for the Indian Army. This memorial honors Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, a true hero of the 1962 Indo-China war. The way the place has been maintained by the Indian Army is simply outstanding — clean, organized, and filled with a sense of reverence. You can actually feel the spirit of bravery and sacrifice here. The soldiers on duty explain the history and story of Jaswant Singh with great respect and emotion, making the visit even more meaningful. Inside the memorial, you’ll see Jaswant Singh’s personal belongings, photos, weapons, and a detailed account of the battle. What really touches the heart is how the army still treats him as if he’s alive — his bed is made every morning, his food is served daily, and his duty roster continues even today. It’s a powerful reminder of the undying bond between a soldier and his regiment. The surroundings are equally mesmerizing — snow-capped mountains, fluttering prayer flags, and calm silence make it a perfect blend of nature and patriotism. The small army canteen nearby offers tea and snacks, and the soldiers’ warmth makes you feel like family. If you’re traveling towards Tawang or coming back from Sela Pass, do not miss stopping here. Spend a few quiet minutes to pay your respects — it’s an experience that will stay in your heart forever. Verdict- A must-visit for every Indian. More than a destination - it’s a feeling, a tribute, and a moment of pure pride. 🙏🇮🇳

It is located in Nuranang District of Arunachal Pradesh to Pay Homage to Jaswant Singh Rawat, an Indian Rifleman of 4 Garhwal Rifles who stood his ground against overwhelming odds in the 1962 War with China. For 72 grueling hours, he single-handedly inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy before making the ultimate sacrifice. Jaswant Singh Rawat's courage in facing the Chinese Army led to the establishment of this Memorial at the very spot of his heroic stand. You will get heavenly touch. The fall is renowned for its breathtaking beauty, surrounded by lush green forests, rocky cliffs, snow-capped mountains, and alpine landscapes. It is named after a local Monpa girl called Nura, who played a heroic role during the 1962 Sino-Indian War by assisting an Indian soldier, Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat. This historical connection adds cultural significance to the natural wonder.

Nuranang Waterfalls is also known as Jung/Jang Falls and is a Beautiful Waterfall which drops down from an altitude of 100 meters. It originates from the northern slopes of the famous Sela Pass and then it plunges into the Tawang River. It is located hardly 2 kilometers from Jang just off the main road that connects Tawang and Bomdila and that's perhaps the reason why it is also known as Jang Waterfalls. The sound, the mist, and the lush surroundings create a magical experience. A must-visit for anyone traveling to Tawang—nature at its finest!

Truly massive and gigantic waterfall with a river flowing beneath. Breathtaking views for the tourists visiting Arunachal. The hydel power plant on way to the waterfall adds beauty and also the natural mountains opposite to this waterfall quantifies it's greenery and refreshing views. Entry fee is very minimal and best part is almost every tourist vehicle can reach till the very base of the falls.

Jung Waterfall, also known as Nuranang Falls or Bong Bong Falls, is a breathtaking natural marvel located about 40 kilometers from Tawang town in Arunachal Pradesh. Plummeting from a staggering height of 100 meters, this waterfall is surrounded by lush forests and majestic Himalayan landscapes at an elevation of approximately 6,000 feet. It originates from the northern slopes of the Sela Pass, forming the Nuranang River, which tumbles down sheer cliffs and merges with the Tawang River. The journey to Jung Waterfall is as enchanting as the destination itself, with winding roads offering panoramic views of vibrant valleys and towering peaks. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by the thunderous sound of water and a misty ambiance that often gives way to rainbows, especially in the afternoon. The site appeals not only to nature lovers but also to photographers who flock to capture the dazzling vistas and rainbows. The falls hold historical significance as well, being named after Nura, a Monpa tribal girl famed for her support of an Indian soldier during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. Near the base, a small hydel plant harnesses the power of the falls to generate electricity for local villages. The area is ideal for picnics and peaceful reflection, with small eateries serving refreshments like tea and Maggi noodles to visitors. Jung Waterfall’s remote yet accessible location makes it a hidden gem worth exploring during any Tawang trip. The pristine waters, scenic surroundings, and serene atmosphere promise an unforgettable experience for adventurers, nature enthusiasts, and those seeking tranquility amidst the wonders of Arunachal Pradesh.

I recently visited Jung Falls in October 2025, and it turned out to be one of the most peaceful and refreshing experiences I’ve had in a long time. The place is absolutely beautiful, serene, and eye-soothing, surrounded by misty hills and the calming sound of rushing water. It’s the kind of spot where you can just sit quietly and take in the beauty of nature for hours. Jung Falls is also a great place for a picnic if you enjoy spending time outdoors. However, a small word of caution — the roads leading to the falls are quite tricky, with sharp turns and steep slopes, so you need to drive carefully. Despite that, the view along the way is breathtaking, and once you reach the falls, you’ll feel that every bit of the journey was worth it. There are very few shops on the way to Jung Falls or even towards Tawang, so I’d strongly suggest carrying your own food and water. Having a few snacks packed makes the experience a lot more convenient and enjoyable. Overall, Jung Falls is a hidden gem in Arunachal Pradesh — perfect for those who love nature, peace, and scenic beauty. The journey might be a little challenging, but the moment you stand before the majestic waterfall, you’ll know it was worth every effort. A truly magical place to visit.

Visited the place (the waterfall) on 8th October 2025. In one word, everyone will definitely be fall in love with this place once they have a visit to this beautiful spot. The weather (on that day) was amazing and perfect for enjoying the waterfall. We have celebrated our son’s birthday there with great enthusiasm and pleasure. Jung Falls, also known as Nuranang Falls, is a breathtaking waterfall located near the town of Jang (also spelled Jung) in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, India. Cascading from a height of about 100 meters, the falls are surrounded by lush green forests and misty hills, creating a mesmerizing natural spectacle. The Nuranang River, originating from the Sela Pass, feeds the waterfall before joining the Tawang River. This hidden gem is not only a visual delight but also holds cultural and historical significance — it is named after Nura, a local Monpa girl associated with an Indian soldier from the 1962 Sino-Indian War. Jung Falls has also been featured in Bollywood films, adding to its fame. The serene environment, rhythmic sound of rushing water, and panoramic beauty make it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking peace and natural grandeur in northeastern India.
