Taiping Mall offers a pleasant environment to relish the coolness of air conditioning. The mall boasts impeccable restroom facilities, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene for all visitors.
A modern mall in Taiping with Pacific as its main tenant. The mall feels quite empty, with most of the shops located on the ground floor and level 1. However, it still features quality brands such as Switch and Aeon Wellness, among others.
Encik A — Google review
We visited this mall that is connected to the Novotel hotel. It doesn't look that modern but there are sufficient shops here to buy necessities and food. There are also cafes, bakery and Pacific department store here.

Gardens
Nestled in the charming town of Taiping, Perak, Malaysia, the Taiping Lake Gardens is a stunning historical park that dates back to the 19th century. Spanning an impressive 64 hectares, this picturesque oasis features interconnected lakes surrounded by lush greenery and scenic walking paths. As the first public garden established in Peninsular Malaysia during British colonial times, it offers visitors a serene escape from urban life.
Spent about an hour here and absorbed the sights and sounds here. Lets dive in! Parking: There are alot of lots around but limited. The lots you may find may have some improvised shops selling food and stuff around as well. Activities: The whole lake is definitely full of activities from people briskly walking, running and even having sports. There were guys also bird-spotting and some just admiring the lake. Atmosphere: With a great view, its a must visit place. You can actually spend hours here without doing anything much and yet time can stand still. A great place to soak around and have picnic with the family. All in all, we enjoyed our time here and would love to spend more time. A definite recommendation from us to drop by at least once. Cheers!

Taiping Lake Gardens, located in the town of Taiping in Perak, Malaysia, is a historical and serene retreat that dates back to 1880, making it one of the oldest public gardens in Malaysia. Spanning approximately 64 hectares, this lush park was originally a tin mining site, which was later transformed into a beautifully landscaped garden. The gardens feature scenic lakes, winding pathways, and a rich variety of tropical flora, making it a perfect spot for leisurely walks, jogging, or simply relaxing amidst nature. Its historical charm is enhanced by the colonial-era structures and well-maintained gardens, offering visitors a glimpse into Malaysia's botanical and cultural heritage. The tranquil atmosphere, combined with the scenic beauty of the lakes and gardens, makes Taiping Lake Gardens a must-visit destination for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

Best park in town (and probably in the entire Perak state!). The park has lush green hills in the backdrop with ponds and lakes everywhere your eyes can see. If you come at the right season, there are plenty of blooming lotuses too. If you're lucky, you might get to see a few colourful birds (but beware of the monkeys!). There are bikes for hire, boating activities, and a heritage trail you can follow. Highly recommend for morning walks and evening strolls.
Faithful L — Google review
One of the most beautiful and peaceful parks I’ve ever visited in Malaysia. Taman Tasik Taiping is truly a gem — surrounded by lush greenery, giant rain trees, and a scenic lake that reflects the sky like a mirror. Perfect place for morning walks, jogging, cycling, or just sitting under a tree and soaking in nature. The air is fresh, the atmosphere calm, and the whole area is very well maintained. It’s also a great spot for photography — especially during sunrise or just after rain when the mist lingers over the water. There are also swan boats for rent, a children’s playground, and it’s conveniently located near the Taiping Zoo and the Taiping Lake Gardens. Family-friendly and relaxing — a must-visit if you’re in Taiping!

Nature’s Masterpiece – A Morning at Taiping Lake Gardens Taiping Lake Gardens never fails to impress. With its towering rain trees lining the lakes, gently arching branches sweeping over the road like nature’s own cathedral, this place is nothing short of magical. I visited in the morning, and the crisp air, soft mist, and the mirror-like lakes reflecting the sky made for a picture-perfect start to the day. The park is well-maintained, with wide walkways for joggers and cyclists, and benches that invite you to sit a while and just take it all in. Families strolled by, kids laughed near the playground, and couples snapped photos beneath the hanging roots of century-old trees—each corner here feels like a quiet postcard. Taiping has many charms, but the Lake Gardens is its heart. It’s not just a park; it’s a space where time slows down, where history and nature meet in graceful harmony. Whether you're from near or far, it’s a place that welcomes you with open arms—and leaves you refreshed in soul and spirit. Appreciate you stopping by! Zoo Taiping & Night Safari

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Embark on a unique adventure at the Taiping Zoo & Night Safari, where visitors can encounter a diverse array of wildlife from around the world. By day, explore the zoo's impressive collection of over 140 animal species, including majestic tigers, powerful elephants, curious monkeys, and colorful parrots. At night, experience the thrill of the night safari as you observe nocturnal creatures in their natural habitat under simulated moonlight.
1st u walk with your child then u can use tram. Some of animal cage under construction.maybe after it will be better. But they also have cafe at the central. Plz support our local zoo. It is for your children too.
Suzee L — Google review
To compare my previous visit in 2021, presently the zoo has not been well maintained with many cages/enclosures are empty and facilities not in good condition. The animals look gloomy, few are skinny and few are obviously can be seen having external injury. Very pity to see their conditions. The trams are all look like new / refurbished, but really hope the welfare/facilities of the animals also heavily taken into account as well. Hopefully the management can do their best to overcome all these issues.
Atikah Z — Google review
The zoo is beautiful and incredibly spacious, set on a massive 36-acre site with a natural lake and streams running through it. Instead of feeling like concrete enclosures, the animal exhibits are designed to mimic their natural habitats, nestled within lush rainforests and greenery. It feels more like a walk through a beautiful nature park where you just happen to encounter amazing wildlife. We saw a various array of animals, from the majestic Malayan tigers and powerful African lions to graceful giraffes and playful orangutans. The "Elephants of the Perak River" exhibit was a particular highlight! The sheer variety of both local and international wildlife is impressive. But the absolute must-do is the Night Safari! It was a magical experience to see nocturnal animals like hyenas and owls become so active under the special "moonlight" lighting. The sounds of the jungle at night were unforgettable. A word of advice: the place is big, so make use of the free tram service or rent a buggy. We spent a full day here and loved every minute. Highly recommended for families, couples, and anyone who appreciates nature and wildlife in a beautiful, well-maintained setting!
Kiko — Google review
Zoo was interesting, simple place. Please bring umbrellas or use caps is you plan to walk around. Tram service were prompt and those who wish to just see the animal for a glance can take the ride. Animal was not found in the present heat condition, most of them were in their shades. Liked the guide who was driving the tram. He was good at giving information. He interact with our kids nicely and jokes with them. As for the place, they could have improved it more and made it even more beautiful. Do not expect to see lots of animals.
Lenny ( — Google review
The entrance fee is RM16, and RM20 for the Night Safari. At the start, there’s a car that takes you around the zoo, but it drives quite fast, so you don’t really get to see much. After that, you can walk around on your own. There are a lot of monkeys, so do be careful. Maintenance wise, it’s not very good — some dirty water, mosquitoes, and quite a few areas are closed off, maybe due to lack of zookeepers. Still, there are quite a lot of animals to see, like giraffes, elephants, swans, orangutans, cassowary (the “killer bird”), and even capybara! Overall, it’s still quite fun to hang out here with friends, family, or your partner. Just don’t expect it to be very well maintained.
Kai Y — Google review
Interesting Experience, but Limited Interaction Overall a good experience! You can’t really touch or get close to the animals since everything’s behind cages. I recommend visiting during the day to see more animals.
M — Google review
The zoo is relatively clean, and the animals look healthy and well cared for. It was a bit too dark to explore on our own. Therefore we joined the complimentary tram tour - it was informative and engaging — definitely worth it.
Connsynn — Google review
Out of my expectation, the zoo and animals are well-managed. The animals' coat fur are beautiful implying they have been taken care well. When you go you will first ride a toured safari train. Saw tiger, lions, varieties of birds, zebra, giraffe, tapir, sunbear, orangutan, hippo, rhino etc. Very satisfied.

Taiping War Cemetery

Cemeteries
Taiping War Cemetery, situated 2 kilometers south of the town, is a solemn historical site dedicated to Allied personnel who lost their lives during World War II. The cemetery was established after Japan's defeat and also serves as the final resting place for servicemen who died post-war or during their time in northern Malaya before the Malayan Emergency. Divided into Christian and non-Christian sections, it houses around 850 graves, with 500 unidentified individuals from various nationalities.
A solemn resting place for those who lost their lives during the World War II. As I walked through the cemetery, I was deeply moved by the quiet dignity of this sacred place, accompanied only by the soothing sounds of nature. Each tombstone, whether bearing a name or left unnamed, tells a story of sacrifice and unspoken bravery. My salute to all the fallen heroes. May their sacrifice never be forgotten.
Ng P — Google review
If you need a place to reflect on the foolishness of those in power during the geopolitical insanity between 1939 and 1945, this is the perfect spot. It is located in the foothills of Maxwell Hill or, as it is now known, as Bukit Larut. The cemetery is divided into two parts. Divided by the small road leading to Bukit Larut. From the town, the side on the right is for Christians, and on the left of the road is for non-christians. The neat rows of headstones do create a dignified yet melancholy atmosphere. If you are in Taiping, do visit this beautiful place. It may keep you grounded for some time.
Nazif J — Google review
A very solemn and peaceful place to be at if you like history or nature. There’s not much information provided but you can spend the time reading the writings on the tombstone. Made you realise the price of war is too much for humanity to survive. I can’t find any proper parking nearby, so I parked at Taman Botani and walked to the cemetery. It was only 500m away. There are 2 sides of the cemetery, one is for the British armies and another one is for the Indian regiment. There are 4 Malaysian Chinese tombstones on the Indian regiment side. The main gate of both sides are locked at all times, presumably to prevent people driving into it. But if you look closely, there is a small gate left open at the side of the British army graves while as for the Indian regiments graves, you can enter from the side as it is not enclosed by any barriers. At the back of the Indian regiment side, there are stairs for a brief climb. The view is magnificent. I didn’t managed to snap a picture of it as I were chased by wild monkeys 😂.
Zaihan Y — Google review
Such a somber and moving experience, going through each name who deserve to be remembered for their sacrifice. I actually shed a tear knowing their ultimate sacrifice gave us the freedom we have today.
Jeremy F — Google review
Well maintained cemetery for fallen WW2 soldiers. It was heartbreaking to see that many of the head stones had no names or links of any identity on them. A somber reminder of how tragic war is. The area however was peaceful and stunningly beautiful for their final resting place.
Russell W — Google review
The War Cemetery of Taiping where heroes live. You can Browse around the Cemetery and look at all the heroes names. if you at morning You will see people that Clean up the place. Every Morning.. The View The Sun Rise. Was amazing. if you go for a walk and feel/breathing air. The Moment you will Never forget. 😎✌🏻 Pssssttttttttt dont forget to follow Evergreen34k 📸
HxMc G — Google review
One of the most somber places in Malaysia, with many graves of fallen soldiers of the Allied forces from World War Two. Best to visit at daybreak when the sun peeks up behind Maxwell Hill
Ian Y — Google review
Being someone who likes to visit historical places, I would give this place a 5-star. Well maintained. On one side rests those in the Indian Army and on the other side rests the British Army. Some of the words on the gravestone are really touching. Gates were closed but I climbed over the short wall to take a brief look before jumping out again.

The Perak Museum, located in Taiping, Malaysia, is a captivating destination that offers a comprehensive journey through the rich history and natural heritage of Perak state. Housed in an 1833 art deco building, it stands as the nation's oldest museum and showcases cultural artifacts, historical relics, archaeological discoveries, indigenous traditions, and natural history specimens.
Interesting museum about dragons, nature, customs and traditions and orang asli. Informative. Rm 2 for dewasa. But please don’t bring small children as they only get restless and bring havoc to the museum.
Wilson Y — Google review
This is the first museum of Malaysia. The displays were informative, although I think more emphasis could be on the Perak state itself. Overall, quite well maintained. Unfortunately, the workers were allowed to blast their phone inside the museum.

Today, we visited Muzium Perak in Taiping , the oldest museum in Malaysia, founded back in 1883. It’s packed with fascinating history, from Perak’s royal heritage and archaeology to traditional culture, wildlife, and colonial-era artifacts.
Jacob A — Google review
The best natural museum in Malaysia! The displays are well curated, and every single artifact is clearly labeled with its historical context. Highly recommended for anyone interested in learning about wildlife species and the overall development of humanity in this region
Connsynn — Google review
I dare say, one of the best museums I've been to. There's a vast collection of taxidermy displays as well as bones, which is quite interesting. Parking is free if you're driving and the staff are friendly.

Lata Kekabu

Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
We were here for a short stop after attending an event in Lenggong. The road leading to lata kekabu is narrow. So when there is incoming car, you need to negotiate the narrow lane. Spacious car park. The place is clean and well kept. There are facilities for group booking such as a hall, few chalets, surau. Warning signs for “kepala air” is displayed. There are stalls selling drinks and food at the carpark.
Tengku A — Google review
A natural waterfall that would be much more attractive and better if its facility can be further maintained well though the toilets are clean
Khun L — Google review
No tickets, nice parking, walk 7 minute to da top of waterfall, nice waterfall, be careful kinda slippery
Zul H — Google review
Pleasant walk with big trees around and beautiful scenery. The park has chalets, toilets and surau for public use, including plenty parking right jn front of the entrance. The area was well maintained but their trails and rails still can be improved for better walk. There are warnings signs that public is not allowed to swim at some areas but unfortunately only in Bahasa Malaysia, hope they can prepare an English signs for foreigners to understand. No ticket needed for entrance and parking.
Joanna T — Google review
Scenic recreational area! The river is long and have a lot of spots to enjoy with area suitable for kids to small to medium waterfalls combined with deep pools. Certain areas are not allowed for swimming for safety reasons. There are amenities such as air-conditioned chalets, roofed camping sites, open hall and bins. The washroom were closed during my visit. However, there is a petrol station five minutes away as a backup. There’s parking spaces, pathways with railings and hanged bridge too. Free entry if you just wanna get wet. Permit application required through website for overnight stays as well as booking for amenities.
Abdullah H — Google review
Calm & peaceful place! Waterfall is just 20-30 minutes of a slow walk from the entrance. Reached there at around 7.30am - The place was empty and I was able to make multiple stops to enjoy the scenery & take photos. Wouldn't have had a chance if the place was crowded, since the waterfall viewing areas are quite small.

Islands
Leafy island sanctuary for endangered orang utans, with guided tours via an enclosed walkway.
We take 14:30 boat to visit orang utan. Have to buy ticket. The boat have to bring us cross the island n takes around 15 mins to reach the island. Orang utan so cute. Omg … 1 of the orang utan size bigger than us. We’re lucky when we visit them they all very active playing eating crawling up n down. There’s a tour guide there will give an explanation about Orang utan story. Worth visiting no regret .
Pamela C — Google review
Had a great time on the island the guides are very knowledgeable and do a good job of explaining the process of the conservation of the species and what they specifically do to help (breeding work) after that you go on a short walk through a fenced off area. You pass information boards and the apes themselves. They claim the apes have full range of the island but it seems to be sectioned off and the apes separated which was interesting. But overall a cool place and worth visiting if you are in the area. Be warned though you won't be able to get a grab away from the resort area so I recommend pre booking a taxi.
Ollie H — Google review
Amazing experience! I’ve never seen an orangutan from such a close distance before. Our guide was knowledgeable and knew the names of all the animals. You can tell the orangutans are well cared for. The sanctuary isn’t very large — you can comfortably see everything in about an hour.
ZK — Google review
Love this place. Definitely worth going. Things we didn’t know: 1) there are only 5 boats a day at specific times and 2) it is a guided tour that lasts about 30 minutes. Plan accordingly as we didn’t and ended up waiting an hour and 15 minutes for the next boat to depart. The orangutans seem well kept.
B B — Google review
Visited today (6 Feb) and everything is open. Got the 9.45 ferry across to the island to beat the heat. Lovely crossing. I don’t know if we were lucky but we saw at least 10 Orangutangs, including a family of 4, two companion females and Adam the large male. Great to see them up close, swinging, eating, playing. Full of character and expressions. You can see the wisdom and curiosity and feel the connection to them. They seem well cared for and have good relationships with the rangers. In an ideal world Malaysia would stop cutting down their natural habitat so they are free to roam in the wild, rather than be marooned on an island… it was a great education for our daughter.
Kelly J — Google review
Our visit to Orang Utan Island was nothing short of inspiring. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. One standout was a guide who went above and beyond to ensure everyone in our multilingual group could fully engage with the tour. She skillfully tailored the discussion so that each of us—regardless of language—could learn about the foundation’s mission and the incredible work being done. We were deeply impressed by the dedication and passion the team has for protecting and rehabilitating these beautiful orangutans. It's clear that the welfare of the animals is at the heart of everything they do. The experience left us not only informed but also moved by the stories of the orangutans and those who care for them.
Holly T — Google review
We have been here rather spontaneously than planned and were not quite sure what to expect. Well, turns out the Orang Utan Island Foundation is such a great place. Especially our guide Lina (I hope that was her name) was so kind and open for any questions which she patiently answered and also explained so well. We really appreciate the work they do there, it is so important and they are doing a great job. A big big thank you to everyone and again to Lina, we hope your dream of seeing Gorillas one day comes true! We wish the whole team all the best!!
Sarah W — Google review
Our guide Nina was simply amazing. She knew a lot about the orang utans individually. So passionate about her love for them. Kudos young lady. The ranger who was feeding them was also very kind and engaging with the orang utans. From the moment we drove to the carpark, got our tickets and arrived and left the sanctuary it was just so beautiful a morning to enjoy in a calm and tranquil place. I started writing with Nina on my mind because her service to the sanctuary is examplary. Thank you Nina from Aunty Yoga and Uncle Rob.

It’s an hour leisure activity before entering Bukit Merah Waterpark. There are 15 orang utans 🦧, but it’s depend on your luck how many orang utans to be seen

Yes, luck is important and my trip was very special. Had a fantastic view of these highly endangered animals. The guides were brilliant. The boat trip was short, comfortable, safe and very scenic. Once in a lifetime opportunity. Highly recommended.

should improve more activities... hope next visit it will have a big changing btw always remember name a call to confirm the boat time ;)
Lee W — Google review
Great experience seeing the orang utan from such a short distance. The boat ride is every 45 minutes and quite punctual. The boat ride is around 10 mins time to the island and you'll be greeted by a proper structure. The orang utans are given freedom to wander in the wild, while us the visitors are enclosed in cages, viewing them from within. There are only around 15 or 16 orang utans so don't expect to see an army of them. This is good as they are aggressive by nature. Please do donate to support these organisations.
Jon W — Google review
It’s my best experience in a while, they have so much love for the orangutans 🦧 last boat ride at 3:30 pm! So it closes at 4pm 😄

However, the concept is decent, they have lots of discounted off season apparels, shoes, etc. and on top of that, lots of good food stalls to choose from. However, they do not have much seats so it's meant for take away, mostly.

Design Village Outlet Mall is a shopper’s paradise! The variety of brands and discounts are fantastic, making it the perfect place to find great deals on high-quality items. The mall is clean, spacious, and well-organized, with plenty of seating areas for breaks. This outlet do provide service such as trolley rental for children, nursing room, barber shop , bag and luggage storage. There’s a good mix of fashion, accessories, and home goods, along with a nice selection of cafes and restaurants to recharge. Parking is conveniently. It will be better if we have someone to patrol and sound people. As we notice some of the patron ignore the sign of no smoking at the premise. Highly recommended for a day of shopping!

Just an Average Outlet Mall (Visited on September 8, 2025) Outlet mall isn't exclusively exist in Johor or Selangor. Northern area of Malaysia also has one (and the only so far, until 2028 when Mitsui Premium Outlet is set to open near PIA) outlet mall situated at Batu Kawan, Design Village Outlet Mall. Personally, not a fan of the ambience of the outlet mall. It looked boring and quiet. Writer felt like the outlet mall lack of spirit of lively. Writer understood Design Village looked empty due to visit on weekday. However, later it was discovered the outlet mall had noticeably amount of unoccupied retail spaces. This problem was more pronounced at Pink Area. Only two space known to be occupied. Shame. Shopping goers would like the varieties of fashion and lifestyle tenants. Although dominated by middle class brands, at least the brands were well known brands. While Design Village had large varieties of fashion and lifestyle tenants, the same story wasn't occurred on F&B tenants. The option was more limited. Most of the tenants tend to be offered light meal (Shilin), beverage (Boost, Starbucks, ZUS Coffee), or dessert (Mixue, Baskin Robbins). Very limited choice of restaurant (Padi House, Korfry, Memang Meow). Design Village also had supermarket, Urban Pantry. It was the only one of few tenant that never seen empty at that time. Despite this, Design Village was well maintained. This include the facilities available at there. For unknown reason, Design Village had paid toilet near 7-Eleven. Fortunately, there were another free toilets. The free toilet looked clean and well maintained.

The only one premium outlets in northern side of Malaysia. The variation of shop here are quite good. From clothes, shoes, kitchenware, fast food and grocery store. Reasonable price depends on your budget for some premium item. But sadly the food court all ready close. Easy payment parking. Well maintained landscaping. Perfect place for any event.

Design Village Aspen City is a must-visit for anyone in Penang looking for a modern, open-air shopping experience. Located in the heart of the city, it offers a great mix of local and international brands, with a range of dining options to suit every taste. The spacious layout, with wide walkways and greenery, makes it an enjoyable place to shop and relax. Whether you’re looking for fashion, electronics, or unique home decor, Design Village has it all. Plus, there’s ample parking and great accessibility. The ambiance is inviting, especially in the evenings when the place comes alive with lights. Highly recommended for shopping enthusiasts and families!

Large number of shops with good discounts, paradise for bargain hunters. Good place for walking around and window shopping.

I'm traveling here because I'm doing MC (medical checkup) at the island. It took 45~55RM one way from island hospital to Design Village. . The shops are ok. Medium size place. Some shops over discounted prices, which were expected to do so. Overall experience, the prices are cheaper in Japan (Gotemba) outlet. . The things you need to improve are the toilet and food court.. toilets were dirty and wet. And the food selection were poor. Need to increase more options. . And they have these pokemon vending machine cards. Although no English version. Beware tho, you need to read the machine mechanism before hand. I insert the money first before pressing which one to choose... Ended up losing my money 😔

Tree Top Walk Sungai Sedim

Temporarily Closed
Nature & Parks

Elevated steel bridges form a canopy trail above a tropical rainforest with resident monkeys.
One of the longest Tree Top Walk in the world. Very safe to walk and built with strong iron structure. The most highest level of the Tree Top Walk was measured at 36 meters high. Be careful with the stuff you carry along so it won’t drop to the ground especially your mobile phone while taking picture or recording a video. The view is fabulous in this protected forest.
Commander S — Google review
Place are quiet and good scenery around a forest. A good place to see the forest from a man made bridge above it. Entry is not free for a car to park but not expensive. 12RM entry for tree top walking and I think it’s worth every penny. There is also nearby river you can hang around and play in the water.
Sri Q — Google review
We messaged ahead of arrival. We were told that there was some construction work being done which could possibly spoil our visit. We asked if we could turn up and see for ourselves, and there was no problem with us doing that. On arrival the site was closed, but we walked up to the reception area and was met by Wan, who was very knowledgeable and showed around the walk area that was available. Worth calling the attraction even though it was closed to most of the public. New reception area should be fabulous when opened.

Had a lovely walk on this tree top walkway with my 2 kids aged 4 and 7. It is highly recommended. The structure seems well maintained and safe. Those afraid of height may find it challenging at first but its one of the best way to overcome the fear as you would be busy enjoying the views and quietness of forest. It took us around 50 minute to complete the tour. Parking was plenty at the park entrance and you have to walk around 200 m to the tree top entrance. Can just ask around the park operator. Overall, we really enjoy it.
Ahmad M — Google review
Ticket rate for Malaysian is RM12, RM6 for Students/Elderly. Not recommended to those struggling with heights.

Nice Tree Top Walk experience. The round trip took us 1 hour. Easy walk. Cooling place surrounded by big trees and water fall underneath us. Can hear the sound of the water fall along your walk. No restrooms and drinks stall available. Parking fee RM2 per head. Entrance ticket RM12 per person, senior citizen half prize.
Chee C — Google review
Quiet place. A different view of the trees, being in the canopy top. It is sturdy and strong. Just a bit careful of moss, since this is a rainforest, high humidity. Entrance fee for Malaysian RM 12, which is very reasonable considering there is a need for constant maintenance. The gallery is also full of information of the walkway and some info of birds for avid birdwatchers.
J B — Google review
Interesting experience to be able to walk high above the forest floor among the canopy and tree tops. However, it was rather quiet and disappointing as I expected to hear or see forest birds. In fact, there were more bird activities at the car park area where a pair of rhinoceros hornbill was sighted. By the way, staff should be more punctual instead of taking their own sweet time to open up the Tree Top Walk. Also, car park area is too messy, full of fallen leaves and uncollected rubbish. It looked more like an abandoned facility. Simply don't understand why collect money for parking when nothing is done for maintenance?

Chew Jetty

Chew Jetty is a UNESCO historic site and a traditional stilt village by the sea, dating back to the 19th century. It's one of the last Chinese settlements on Penang Island, with wooden stilt houses built along a walkway. The location offers a unique and adventurous spot for proposals, with its rustic charm and picturesque views of colorful sunsets and boats tied to the docks.
A fishermen village where you can walk around to observe their marine lives. You can also look for souvenirs to buy like cloth bag. pin badge, and cute little things. Walking to reach the end of the way to see the sea view with clear blue sky. The weather is nice, too.
Kantavee W — Google review
Chew Jetty, the largest and most famous of the historic Clan Jetties in George Town, Penang, is a fascinating UNESCO World Heritage site offering a unique glimpse into a traditional waterfront lifestyle. It is not a single floating structure, but a community of floating houses—or, more accurately, stilt houses—built entirely over the water on wooden piers. These rustic, interconnected wooden homes have been continuously inhabited by descendants of the Chew clan since the 19th century, creating a living, breathing village seemingly suspended between land and sea. Visitors can explore the long wooden walkway to witness this unique way of life. While primarily a residential area, the jetty has become a popular tourist attraction, with many ground-level rooms in the houses converted into small shops selling souvenirs and local treats. For those interested in the water perspective, boating is a popular activity. Tour operators often offer short boat rides from the jetty, providing scenic views of the stilt houses and the George Town coastline from the sea. The cultural and religious heart of the community is marked by its temples. There are two significant Chinese temples on Chew Jetty. The temple near the entrance is dedicated to the God of Heaven (Jade Deity), and another temple at the very end of the main jetty is dedicated to the Taoist Sea Deity, Haisen, to ensure good fortune and safe journeys at sea. While the primary temples follow Taoist and traditional Chinese folk religion, a prominent, striking structure adjacent to the Chew Jetty is the beautiful Hean Boo Thean Kuan Yin Temple, often referred to as the Floating Temple. While this temple is not physically on Chew Jetty, its stunning location perched right on the water makes it a major highlight when viewing the jetties from the coast or on a boat tour.

It's your average tourist hotspot with loads of souvenir shops along the way. A traditional jetty that's now a popular tourist spot for pictures. If you ask me personally, it's worth a pit stop if you're already in the area - especially if you're exploring Armenian Street and the cafes in its vicinity. However, do keep in mind to be respectful because most of the houses along the jetty are still homes to locals. People actually still live there. So when taking pictures, be respectful! 😬
Sunantha S — Google review
Chew Jetty may be small, but it's still a nice place to explore. It has a unique charm and local vibe. I enjoyed walking through the wooden walkways and supporting the local shops. The souvenirs here are surprisingly affordable—definitely cheaper than in other touristy areas. Worth a quick visit if you're nearby!

Chew Jetty is a remarkable glimpse into Penang's past. Built in the 19th century by Chinese immigrants, this wooden village on stilts offers a unique experience. Walking along the wooden planks, you'll pass colorful houses, small shops, and temples, all while enjoying the sea breeze. It's a peaceful spot to explore, photograph, and learn about the heritage of George Town. A must-visit for history enthusiasts and those seeking an authentic cultural experience

We read the history about the clans and jetties and visited chew jetty. We had an unique experience visiting in the night. Shops were shut and it was peaceful to walk. Fewer people. Very interesting to see the houses built on the water and the way of living was fascinating. We didn't get to visit in the morning time though.

Historical and beautiful clan temple with a small museum that has the story of the Khoo clan. The entrance fee is 15RM for foreigner, 10RM for Malaysian. It’s quite a small area so only take 15 minutes to explore the place. The educational museum is in English and Chinese, so it’s accessible even if you don’t speak local languages. The air conditioned area is small so the area is quite hot during the daytime. Quiet and historical but a lot to do here.

The Place to Celebrate The Contribution for Publics (Visited on September 11, 2025) There are many Kongsi building at Penang. One of the prominent is Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi. Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi wasn't just showcasing history of the building, but also the contribution of the organization toward society (In this case, Penangite), economy, and event pop culture (The temple used to be one of the shooting location of Anna and The King released in 1999). The Kongsi even immortalized anyone with Khoo surname that successfully graduate from prestigious universities with a plaque. It might be odd had visit to Kongsi, but very fascinating to learn the history of the Kongsi.

It's a well maintained place to visit. I would recommend to visit at least once. The building and architecture is really nice with several nice paintings inside the building. The museum is very informative too. Would be great if there's someone gave us a tour as we paid RM10 per person but we didn't have any information or a summary of the place.

Visiting Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi felt like stepping into an intricately carved time capsule hidden in the middle of George Town. Even before entering, the entrance lane created this quiet sense of anticipation — almost as if you were being pulled into a private world the city keeps tucked away. You’ll probably find yourself slowing down without realizing it, taking in angle after angle — the dramatic staircases, the sweeping roof curves, the delicate lanterns. Every corner looks like it was designed with a photographer in mind. Khoo Kongsi isn’t just another heritage site — it’s one of those places that feels special the moment you step in. It’s intimate, powerful, and full of soul. Whether you’re a history lover, an architecture fan, or just someone who enjoys stepping into beautiful spaces, this clanhouse leaves a quiet but lasting impression.

its very luxurious. you get to see the family history of the Khoos, honestly cannot understand why they let strangers get in but its good to see all these beautiful buildings. but if you are from the southern side of China, you probably find this very similar to the buildings back home.

As a descended of the Khoo Kongsi/ Khoo Clan myself, this is a brief explanation for the Khoo Clan story. “Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi, or Khoo Kongsi for short, is one of the most distinctive Chinese clan association in Malaysia. It is well known worldwide for its extensive lineage that can be traced back 650 years ago, as well as its closely-knit and defensive congregation of buildings and a magnificent clanhouse” Renowned as the grandest clan house in Malaysia, the iconic Khoo Kongsi is nestled in Cannon Square, right in the heart of Penang's UNESCO World Heritage Site. Completed in 1906 and last restored in 2001, this majestic temple is a testament to the enduring legacy of the Chinese community in Malaysia. This building in Georgetown was awarded the UNESCO World Heritage status in 2008. Beside the rows of old Chinese shophouses, there are both local and colonial historical buildings. I visited some of them and will need a second visit to complete the list. There are more than 1,700 historic buildings within 110 hectares core area of George Town representing various ethnicities. Here are just some: Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi - a Hokkien clan village built by the Khoo family in the late 19th century. Entry is via a narrow passageway into an extensive courtyard that surrounds a main temple, a temple stage and several rows of houses. The temple roof is simply magnificent and elaborate. Within the main temple are hallways line with intricate carvings and ornately decorated facade, timber beams and roof trusses. The Central Hall houses Chinese deities and side altar contains the ancestral tablets and plaques recognising the Khoo clan members including our Khoo Teck Puat. A pair of Sikh soldier statues guard the entrance of the temple. The ground floor of the main temple is a museum showcasing murals and interpretive panels on the history of Khoo Kongsi and Chinese community in Penang. Entrance payment is free for those surname 'Khoo' but non Khoo surname are require to pay an entrance fee for the association to maintain the entire property.

The Pinang Peranakan Mansion is a captivating heritage museum that provides insight into the Peranakans' way of life. This community comprises descendants of Chinese immigrants who settled in the Malay archipelago between the 15th and 17th centuries. The mansion, a meticulously restored ancestral home, displays an impressive array of antiques and artifacts that illustrate the cultural blend of local Malay, Indian, Chinese, and European influences.
The Uniqueness of Peranakan Culture (Visited on September 11, 2025) Speaking about Peranakan culture, Penang is widely known for has thriving Peranakan culture. The unique culture is well-preserved by government and locals alike, to the point creating a museum dedicated for documenting the life of being upper class Peranakan at Penang. In this case, specifically during 19th century to 20th century. Situated at previously actual mansion occupied by Peranakan, Pinang Peranakan Mansion showcasing the interior of a house representing the lifestyle and culture of upper class Peranakan. Many things were displayed at the museum. Note that do not touch the display. The interior was very beautiful, displaying distinct acculturation between indigenous and foreign culture, colorful, and complex design preference. This similar characteristics also can be found on some furniture. The museum was large enough to accommodate large amount of visitors. No need to feel exhausted, as the museum was equipped with AC and fan.

This is an interesting place to visit whether you're a history buff or not. It allowed me to peek into the lifestyle of the wealthy Nonya family. Looking at the artefacts and portraits was fun enough, but I would have loved it more if detailed descriptions and explanations were given on signs and boards. As it is now, the visitor has to piece everything together without being given a congruent story. Nonetheless, the mansion is beautiful and the musical show is very cute.

RM30 is the entry fee per person. Self-guided tours are available throughout the day. We bought the entry ticket after reaching there. Can spend 2 hours. Beautiful Mansion , 2 levels and multiple rooms to watch and see. Can get crowded and the family prayer room in the back has a disconcerting feeling. Must visit which gives a glimpse into Peranakan life and the grandeur. Thoroughly enjoyed it. And lot of photo spots to get good pictures. Only negative was the airconditioning inside the mansion and it got so stuffy to be inside which ruined the experience. Other than that, definitely recommended if you are in Georgetown.

I have visited many Peranakan museums in Singapore, Malacca and now here in Penang for the first time. One of the best kept Peranakan museum I have seen so far. Well designed mansions including family altar and very huge kitchen space that they turned into restaurant and even theatre. Many exhibits were a time piece of their time, trapped in the space of time so that we can visit and relate. Included art piece, kitchenware, furnitures, and even well taken photographs. Certainly the building made a good spot for photography and can see the many patrons who donned Nonya clothing and employed photographers to take good shot. Love the museum!!

Interesting tour of the mansion, was highly impressed with the English speaking tour guide, he was engaging and knowledgable. You can pay for a tour and spend as much time as you wish after exploring the rooms which is a nice touch. The tour lasts approx. 40-45 minutes. The only reason I didn’t score 5/5 was because the exhibits felt a bit modernised in places and the waiting area was very hectically managed.

Sights & Landmarks
Kek Lok Si Temple, located on the White Crane Mountain in Penang, Malaysia, is the largest Chinese Buddhist temple in the country. Built in 1889, it showcases a blend of architectural styles from China, Thailand, and Myanmar. The temple complex is divided into lower, middle, and hilltop sections featuring intricate decor and numerous Buddha images. Visitors can explore various religious and cultural structures as well as beautifully landscaped gardens.
Largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia, this has 7 levels. The steps can be challenging to those not prepared. You can take your time to cover each level. Some areas are small and narrow. Others are more spacious. The architecture and some relief with intricate details devoted to the Buddhist legends are marvelous. It is free to visit, donations are encouraged but not mandatory. Shoes are off inside the temple for praying. Incense are burnt and placed large holders inside or outside each temple. The scenery is pacific, peaceful and respectful. You can view the city below from some points higher up. There is a parking area on the ground level. I'm not sure if it's free or paid parking. It is a worthwhile trip although can be tough for some on a hot day, which is typical in this region. It was 31c and humid, it felt like 38c, on the day of my visit in mid November.

Recommended but with some negatives. Pros: still plenty of beauty in the buildings and grounds. Nice viewpoints. Staff are friendly and helpful. Cons: It's chaotic. The lower tram isn't working so they put you in a mini van to get to the next level up, then a golf cart to the upper tram. There's no map or guide to help you, and signage is confusing. There's a walk up and through gardens that would have been better than the golf cart. There's no way for first time visitors to understand the layout. They want you to go through the stores and you'll miss the best parts on the middle levels if you aren't careful. Take your time to explore all the directions. It's quite commercialized. Selling stuff I the Temples seems a little weird.

Kek Lok Si Temple in Penang is one of the most breathtaking attractions in George Town and a must-visit for travelers seeking culture, history, and stunning views. Built on a hillside, this Buddhist temple complex is famous for its colorful architecture, intricate carvings, and the impressive 30-meter tall Goddess of Mercy statue. Walking through the temple grounds, you’ll discover beautiful pagodas, prayer halls, and thousands of Buddha statues. During Chinese New Year, the temple lights up with lanterns, creating a magical atmosphere perfect for photos. Accessible by car or Grab, it’s a peaceful escape where you can enjoy panoramic views of Penang Island. Whether you’re here for spirituality, photography, or sightseeing, Kek Lok Si Temple is truly one of the top things to do in Penang and an unforgettable highlight of any trip.

Kek Lok Si Temple is a beautiful and iconic place to visit in Penang. The architecture, statues, and view from the top are absolutely worth the trip! If you’re able to walk up the temple, I’d highly recommend doing so — it’s a nice experience and you’ll get to explore the surroundings at your own pace. Be aware there are quite a few drivers touting their service (around RM33) to bring visitors up to the Guan Yin temple level. Personally, I find it not necessary unless you have mobility issues. The tram service stop also isn’t really worth it. Walking up is definitely the better way to enjoy the place!

Amazing vast site on many levels, sometimes a bit difficult to work out which way to go but there are always kind people there to ask and they are very willing to help. So much to see and take pictures of I’d advise 3-4 hours if you take lots of beautiful pictures. 2-3 hours if you don’t. I took a taxi there but found via google the local bus 204 took me to 200 yds of my hotel and cost just 2 R, didn’t take much longer than a taxi and was A/C ….LOVE A BARGAIN

Well... If you really have a time then visit it, otherwise don't fomo. The architecture of buildings are pretty impressive, Big Buddha statue is pretty big, there is a nice city view, but all the buildings are not sacred but... gift shops :( As for the cable car, there is no priority lane for disabled or infants, so you have to wait in the warm gift shop in a close proximity to other people. To be honest, skip the cable car/cab option and take a walk from the parking to the top. It's very easy and short. If you have a baby trolley like me, you can go around the stairs.
Dariusz W — Google review
Kek Lok Si feels much more like a large religious supermarket than a place of reflection. Everywhere you turn there are Buddhist statues, trinkets, incense, and endless items for sale. To reach the upper levels you need to buy a fairly pricey shuttle ticket. On the first ride a Buddhist monk actually drives, which already sets a confusing tone. Then, to get to the inclined elevator, you walk through a long corridor lined with shelves of Buddha themed merchandise, gadget after gadget. At the top there is yet another shop before you finally reach the terrace and the huge bronze Guan Yin statue. The base of the statue is not open to the public, which adds to the feeling of anticlimax. The garden above is pleasant, with benches, a pond, and a pavilion, and clearly cared for. However, the temple area itself feels strangely hollow. One entire side of the main hall is filled with porcelain vases for sale. Inside, only a few sticks of incense burn. There is no real sense of devotion or spiritual atmosphere. I understand that a complex of this size requires funding, but the commercialisation here feels excessive and overwhelms any sense of sacredness. Overall, Kek Lok Si is visually impressive from a distance, but the experience on site is disappointing.

Majestic and Peaceful Temple Complex Kek Lok Si Temple is absolutely breathtaking — a true symbol of Penang’s spiritual and cultural beauty. The intricate architecture, towering pagoda, and giant Goddess of Mercy statue make this one of the most impressive Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia. The atmosphere is calm and serene, with stunning panoramic views of Penang from the top. It’s best to visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat and enjoy the beautiful lighting for photos. Don’t miss the turtle pond and the peaceful prayer halls. A must-visit landmark for anyone coming to Penang!

Cheong Fatt Tze, The Blue Mansion is a charming property that offers classic rooms and suites, some of which feature plunge pools. It is known for its fusion restaurant and elegant decor, featuring an exquisite mix of antiques and art deco furniture. Situated in the historic center of George Town, it is a must-see landmark in the area. The neighborhood surrounding it is filled with colonial and Chinese heritage buildings, atmospheric temples, and narrow streets.
We had a 2-night stay at the hotel and we are very happy about the whole experience. The location is at the edge of the historical George Town which is quiet but close to everything. The guest room is comfortable and full of character. The complimentary guided tour is insightful and fun. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. Especially the lady who seems to be the manger (sorry I didn’t catch her name). She squeezed us in the Indigo restaurant when it was fully booked, which was also a nice experience with great food and wine paring. Overall would recommend to everyone who’s visiting Penang/George Town.

We stayed in the beautiful Han Suite (Mandarin), and it was everything we could have asked for — elegant, comfortable, and full of character. Traveling with an infant, we were truly touched by the care and attention the staff showed to ensure we had a seamless experience. Every request was handled with warmth and efficiency. The food was simply delicious — I’d highly recommend dining at their in-house restaurant, which perfectly complements the charm of the property. Every corner of The Blue Mansion is picture-perfect — from the architecture to the courtyards, it’s a photographer’s delight. If you’re visiting Penang, this place is an absolute must-stay for its heritage, hospitality, and heart. 💙

I enjoyed my stay at the blue mansion. This hotel, a designated UNESCO site, is steeped in history and timeless charm. After changing hands in 1989, the new owners carefully restored the once run-down mansion, preserving its original features and character. The rooms are generously sized and rich with a nostalgic, old-world atmosphere. Every ground-floor room opens into a private backyard with a small pond filled with goldfish, leading directly to the pool area. The bar is fantastic, too

If you are still deciding where to stay in Penang, stop and book this place. Ive just checked in and not even checked out yet, but I just feel very connected with this place already. The history, the people, the architecture. Amazing. The guided tours are offered at 11am and 3:30pm. It is a MUST. Gives a good intro to the history of this mansion and the Chinese man that is named "rockerfller of the east". Fascinating and partly what put Penang on the map for so many. The painstaking restoration took place only in the early 90s and took over 6 years. Wow. This is only a 18-room property and from what I gather they tend to sell out a lot. During the day it is accessible to public, but if you are into architecture and history, you could spend hours here. Stop by the bar and get some unique Chinese brandy and wines by the man established the Chinese winery. I've also stayed at the Edison across the street. While it is charming and offers some unique amenities (all day lounge) but this one gets my vote.

Very unique experience, as You feel, that this house is full of history - the walls have seen a lot. I give 4 stars for rooms, as I did not like, that the room did not have windows + 4 stars for Service, as I would ecpect people working in hotel be little bit more nicer + would smile as well and the breakfast could use some upgrade, but in overal - solid OK or 4 from my side. Also there is a nice cafe just around corner, where live musoc performances happen every other day.

The Qing Suites were breathtaking. From the moment you entered, the ambiance was radiant but also calming. The check in process is smooth and efficient. The rooms are modern and very well thought out. Each detail has been thought out carefully. The access to facilities is easy and the dining options are plentiful and convenient. The location is outstanding.

We went to do the audio tour and to have high tea in the courtyard area. This is a wonderful restoration and it has faithfully been restored to near its original grandeur from a nearly crumbling ruin. Hats off to them. The audio tour was interesting although there are not too many rooms to see as the place is now a hotel. It was very touristy with so many people posing for those perfect Instagram pics. Pretty ridiculous. We were so glad we didn't book a stay here. We also forfeited our high tea deposit and left early as it was just a disappointing experience overall.

I came here for the guided tour. Our guide was very great explaining the history on how The Blue Mansion was preserved. The place itself was full of character and is in a very well conditioned. It also appears on the Hollywood film “Crazy Rich Asians” mahjong scene. I recommend everyone to visit whenever you’re in Penang. Me, myself almost book this place as my stay but got better deal on other property instead, next time will definitely stay here..

Penang Hill, also known as Bukit Bendera, is a must-visit destination in Penang, Malaysia. Visitors can take a unique tram to reach the hill and enjoy breathtaking views of Georgetown port terminal, Penang Bridge, and the city's skyline from various observation decks. The hill offers a serene retreat with its diverse array of tropical plants and vibrant flowers at the Penang Botanic Gardens.
Fabulous day enjoying the stunning views and finding wildlife in the trees, bushes and plants. Walk around quietly and keep your eyes open to find some amazing wildlife and insects Absolutely amazing venue with clear well maintained paths.

Penang Hill, locally known as Bukit Bendera, is a refreshing escape from the heat and hustle of George Town. Reaching the summit, over 800 meters above sea level, is an adventure in itself, thanks to the iconic, steeply inclined funicular railway. While lines for the train can be lengthy during peak hours—a quick tip: consider the fast-lane ticket to save time—the view from the top makes the journey worthwhile. The peak offers spectacular, panoramic vistas of the island, George Town’s skyline, and the mainland. It's especially magical during sunset or when the city lights twinkle at night. The air is noticeably cooler, often dropping several degrees, providing genuine respite. Beyond the viewing decks, the hill is steeped in history, featuring colonial-era bungalows and diverse religious sites, including a mosque and a Hindu temple. The prime attraction, however, is The Habitat. This world-class rainforest discovery center features the Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk and the Langur Way Canopy Walk, allowing visitors to walk high above the 130-million-year-old rainforest. It's an immersive experience for nature lovers, rich in flora and fauna. Penang Hill is a charming blend of natural beauty, colonial heritage, and modern eco-tourism, offering something for every visitor seeking cooler climes and breathtaking sights.

So much of new development since I last came in August 2025. Tram service is good, organised, and efficient. Didn't have to wait for too long. The experience of going uphill and downhill in the tram is interesting. Once up there, you will be greeted with gentle and chill breeze, it's so refreshing. There are a few platforms for photo shooting and enjoying the view of penang island. A lot of souvenir stalls and there's a food courts where you can enjoy local delicacies. So many kid-friendly activities here. For this trip, I visited the Habitat, a reserve forest where u can take tour guide to bring you through the forest on the canopy bridge, it is well maintained and the scenery is just spectacular. We stayed here till sunset. What a perfect experience to enjoy the beauty of Penang.

Penang hill was literally the highlight of our visit to Penang island. The cable car ride and the view from the top are none to second. We were unfortunately late so we didn’t manage to visit the habitat which was a pity but maybe a good reason to come back.

Penang Hill is definitely one of the must-visit UNESCO sites in Penang! 🌿 The view from the top is absolutely stunning and the weather is super cool and nice escape from the city heat. Loved the tram ride up, smooth and scenic! 🚞 Great place to explore and spend quality time with family. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Penang!

Best place to overlook the whole Penang Island. We are lucky as it is low season in Nov and weekday, don’t need to wait too long for the cable car to go up. A refresh walk after raining too. 😌

This hill is a beautiful place combination of beauty, heritage, modern eco tourism , breathtaking and many more. This is at the 800 meters above the sea level and it is away from the town. Very clean place. The hill is very steeped, one ca experience various flora and fauna,130 million years old rainforest etc. Lastly, reaching the peak itself is an adventure in itself. Entopia by Penang Butterfly Farm is a contemporary indoor and outdoor destination that offers an immersive experience with live butterflies and other insects. With almost forty years of history, it remains an engaging and educational attraction, particularly for those fascinated by these exquisite creatures. The facility features interactive workshops and activities, focusing not only on butterflies but also showcasing other insects such as silkworms and spiders.
You simply must see this place. A waterfall greets you right at the entrance. In the centre is a great tall tree with the curtain-like vines hanging down creating an ethereal and almost magical vibe to the landscape✨️ And with the colourful butterflies fluttering free, it was a picture perfect scene. We sat outside the little café and drank in the sound of the waterfall. If you're lucky, those little beauties 🦋 will just land right on you. It's the most marvelous photo opportunity and moment to cherish. They have other little guests too - frogs, lizards, spiders. There's a exhibition place to learn about butterflies. A real treat for the family and a wonderful way to spend 1/2 a day together 💖
Yeong — Google review
We went here in the morning and pre booked our tickets through look as they are cheaper tickets were 60 ringgits for adults and 44 for children and free for under 3s. As you walk through the entrance you greeted by hundreds of butterflies flying around all the plants. You navigate your way around the various paths exploring all the things that have to offer. From spiders, lizards, fish, beetles, all things creepy crawly. Both our children loved it. We then stopped at the cafe and the food was pretty good and not overly expensive.

Came here around 2 years ago. Back again and wasn’t disappointed at all! Did the night park this time round and it exceeded expectations. Armed with UV protection glasses and explored a while different world of night life under UV light. Eye opener for us and the little one. They also have a selection of everyday drinks that glow under UV light! Very interesting. Shoutout to the night staff who were all very attentive and helpful.

Beautiful outdoor garden with informative exhibits We came here quite late around 5pm (last admission). I bought the daypasses from klook as they were far cheaper than buying at the counter. The entrace staff politely asked us if we want to change our visit on the nextday as we may be rushing through the exhibits. Since we already there we choose to continue the visit. If you like taking photos or learn through all the exhibits you may need to spent more time in there. Since i brought my daughter she only want to focus on the butterflies, fishes and the animals.

This place is so good so we went twice ! The place is interactive, educational and fun. It is not just a butterfly farm. It also has other creatures like snakes, spiders, reptiles and birds. There is some amazing photography of insects up close plus activities like silk spinning.

If you're looking for a family-friendly, educational escape in Penang that's equal parts enchanting and Instagram-worthy, Entopia (the Penang Butterfly Farm) is an absolute gem. Tucked away in Teluk Bahang, this massive indoor-outdoor living museum feels like stepping into a lush, tropical fairy tale—complete with thousands of free-flying butterflies, exotic insects, and even cheeky lizards scampering about. I spent a full afternoon here, and it was pure bliss for both the inner child and the amateur photographer in me. The highlight? The sheer abundance of butterflies—vibrant blues, fiery oranges, and delicate whites fluttering everywhere in the massive rainforest enclosure. They're so tame you can gently touch them (with permission, of course—staff guide you on how), creating those once-in-a-lifetime close-up shots. Pro tip for photogs: Early morning visits mean fewer crowds and softer light filtering through the canopy, perfect for macro lenses or even your phone camera. I walked away with a memory card full of ethereal pics! Beyond butterflies, the exhibits are a treasure trove of creepy-crawlies: Stick insects that camouflage like pros, massive beetles, colorful katydids, and a whole section on ants' underground empires. Don't miss the lizard lounge—chameleons and geckos blending into the foliage, adding a fun, prehistoric vibe. It's all so interactive and well-curated, with info plaques explaining life cycles, habitats, and conservation—making it a fantastic educational spot for kids. My little ones (ages 5 and 8) were mesmerized, asking questions non-stop and even "adopting" a virtual butterfly through the on-site program. The layout flows beautifully: Start in the cool, misty indoor zones (great for escaping Penang's humidity), then wander the outdoor gardens with ponds and bridges. Entry is reasonable (around RM59 for adults, cheaper for kids), and you can easily spend 2-3 hours without rushing. Just wear comfy shoes and bug spray—nature calls! Overall, Entopia isn't just a visit; it's an immersion that sparks curiosity and awe. Highly recommend for photographers, families, or anyone who believes in the magic of metamorphosis. 5 stars—book your tickets online to skip lines!

We purchased our tickets in advance and visited during the school holiday, on a weekday. We arrived around 11am and were glad to find it not crowded at all. The visit was truly delightful and enchanting like stepping into a magical little world. Butterflies fluttered gracefully around us, creating a peaceful and captivating atmosphere. The place was not only beautiful but educational, making the experience both enjoyable and meaningful. It was clean and well-maintained throughout. Highly recommended not just for kids, but for adults too.

Great spot to learn more about local spices and plants. Very calming and 'healing' kinda place 😊 We took the guided tour with CE Tan and she gave us wonderful insights (in 2-3 languages nonetheless!) I really enjoyed myself here and will come back again, for sure!

We visited the tropical spice garden on our last full day in Penang and it was a fabulous experience. The knowledge the staff have is amazing. We got a tour round the garden and learnt so much things I never would have thought of. This was then followed by a cooking class. We made Vegetable Fritters, Nyonya Assam Fish Curry and Banana Fritters. Would 100% recommend this experience.

This is such a hidden gem of Penang, anyone coming here must make this a pitstop. It is so tranquil and peaceful and interesting plants can be seen at every corner. No trees are cut - all structures are built around nature, a clear sign that the team puts nature first. I especially loved the fish spa pond, natural river stream flowing through ensuring hygiene, with little fish happy to snack on your dead skin. It's the perfect place to forest bathe and go slower. A sanctuary for busy city people. Please protect this place at all cost!

Went on a guided tour to learn more about the spices grown in Penang and across Malaysia. Learnt so much from our guide (her nickname is Tummy) who was so charismatic and knowledgeable. Felt so lucky to have seen a few baby bats and a grey monkey near the cafe! Also dipped my feet in the foot spa. I booked my ticket in advance as it was a weekend but we were a small group, there would have been tickets at the desk. Anyway, I highly recommend for an interesting and informative few hours. I would recommend putting on lots of insect repellent!

USE the Bug Spray they offer at the front gate!! Sweat, bug bites, and beautiful education are what you get here! A wonderful walk in the rainforest. More surprises than I expected. A local pharmacy or convenience shop will have the After Bite cream you need to relieve the itching pain. This is a lovely place to visit and support.

The live guided tour is a must. We learnt so much from Tummy, especially on what plants are edible in the wild. We love the explanation on bat lily and the functions of different leaves. Without Tammy, it will just be flower and leaves for us. Very refreshing lemongrass pandan drink and fish spa in a stream. So bring along a towel to wipe your feet.

Plenty of water sports are available too — jet skiing, parasailing, and banana boats for the more adventurous. The surrounding area has lots of beachfront resorts and cafes, so it's easy to spend the whole day here. Highly recommended for families, couples, and solo travelers alike. Can't wait to visit again!

This beach definitely has potential, boasting beautiful scenery that makes it a pleasant spot to visit. However, its current state holds it back from being truly great. With some attention to organization and cleanliness, this could be a fantastic destination. The lack of proper upkeep is noticeable and detracts from the natural beauty. Furthermore, if they take care of facilities, particularly bathrooms, it is a significant drawback. Improving these aspects would vastly enhance the visitor experience and allow the beach to live up to its full potential.
Fatima A — Google review
Batu Ferringhi Beach is an okay spot for a beach day in Penang. There are plenty of restaurants and bars lined up along the shore, and many places host fire shows at night, which makes the evenings lively. The backdrop of trees and mountains adds to the scenery and gives the beach a nice vibe. That said, the water isn’t very clear and the sand isn’t soft or white like you might expect from tropical beaches elsewhere. Still, it’s one of the better beach escapes in Penang if you’re looking to get away from the city and enjoy a relaxed seaside atmosphere.
Hayan . — Google review
Batu Ferringhi Beach is a mix of postcard views and unexpected fashion choices. The sand is soft, the waves are gentle, and then you look up and realize half the people in the water are fully dressed like they just wandered in from the mall. Jet skis buzz by, parasails float overhead, and somehow it all works — chaotic but charming. A great spot for sunsets, people-watching, and wondering how those jeans will ever dry.

A Quiet Beach (Visited on September 10, 2025) One of beach can be found at Penang Island is Batu Ferringhi Beach. Batu Ferringhi Beach has clean and pristine white color sand and vibrant light blue color water. Looks so calm and peaceful on the same time. The traits of the beach doesn't correlate with the popularity. Batu Ferringhi Beach remain quiet. Very suitable for introvert. A bit out of topic yet useful information, Batu Ferringhi Beach can be accessed from Starbucks Batu Ferringhi branch. It had direct access to the beach, albeit needed to across the outlet at first.

Among the malls that are always visited during the homecoming season. Not bad because the mall is quite big. The kiosks and shops that are there are okay. Toilets and surau and other services so far are okay. (Update) I went to C&C collection on 2nd floor if im not wrong, I went to Pazee section as shown in the picture, and i found something today. When we were buying clothes, there was this saleswoman, we bought in the bentop section, and she was wearing a pazee shirt. We wanted to ask about the size and so on. But the funny thing is, she pretended to be deaf and didn't hear us calling him. When she came, she brought the clothes we asked for, and she was so upset that she hung the clothes on the hangers roughly. Add to that the look on her face that really hurt our hearts. We were really angry with him. When her friend came, he pointed fingers at us and laughed. It was really unprofessional. As someone who works in the service sector, she should know better how to treat customers even if he shas a problem. Very rude to customers. Please take action.

Seriously the most backward mall I've ever seen. Broken machines mean you can only pay parking with TnG or IC—no credit/debit cards allowed. And to make matters worse, they don't require a minimum balance to enter, so you only find out you're short on cash when trying to leave. Then you're stuck driving out to find a 7-Eleven to top up!

One of the best or pretty much the best shopping mall in Sungai Petani. There is a big CMart Premium there, exhibition hall, GSC Lite Cinema and most of the international fast food chains. Dear [MDB/Management], I’m a local visitor, and this isn’t my first time here—I was just at the hotspring yesterday. Unfortunately, I noticed the toilet was in poor condition and had a strong, unpleasant smell. I hope efforts can be made to improve toilet cleanliness, as it’s something visitors rely on both before and after enjoying the hotspring. This place is truly a gem and an important tourism hotspot for the Baling district. That’s why it’s crucial to maintain basic amenities like cleanliness to ensure a positive experience that encourages repeat visits. That said, I did notice some positive upgrades since my last visit, such as the QR code system and improved signage, which are great for managing mass tourism. Good job, MDB—but please prioritise cleanliness moving forward. Thank you and best regards,

"It has been a long time since I last visited Pantai Merdeka, and I was pleasantly surprised by the improvements made. Notable enhancements include organized parking with designated spaces, well-arranged food stalls, and better public facilities. Although the beach no longer has the same sandy stretch it did 10-15 years ago, the efforts to beautify and restore the area deserve commendation. I also had the opportunity to fish here, and there is plenty of space for other recreational activities, such as cycling and jogging. The only downside of my recent visit was the stalls offered the same type of fastfood rather that go for different varieties.

No beach in sight when I came but remnants of a beach can still be seen under the waves and at the ends of the bay. The surrounds are generally clean and there is a swing and food court to hang out at. Gorgeous views of the sea and Gunung Jerai nonetheless
Bernard K — Google review
Pantai Merdeka has evolved from a small rural beach tourist destination to a famous and popular gourmet port. Weekend and evening were usually crowded. You can also cross the river mouth channel to Tanjung Dawai for seafood or shopping. You can also explore the coast and observe the unique coastal rocks and views.

It’s near to Merdeka Beach Resort. No sunrise view here. Not suitable to swim at this area but luckily it is clean. Many locals and tourists walk around this area in the morning. The sea breeze is manifesting

Nice place for family outing..take the boat to tanjung dawai
Syed K — Google review
The beach was nice and clean. Lots of place to take pictures with family and friends. You can see the sea and a few more isalands and beaches nearby. The sea itself is calm as it is covered by the bay area of Pantai Merdeka. Noticed some people were having picnics bringing their own food and beverages. Some shops were open for people to order drinks as it was convenient for people to quench their thirst at the beach. Parking space was provided with the ease of use of cashless transactions such as Touch n Go.

Mount Jerai

Mountain peak
Outdoor Activities
Other Outdoor Activities
Prominent 3,854-ft. mountain peak featuring hiking trails, wildlife & a lookout with ocean views.
An ideal place for weekend getaway from the hot weather. There's a resort here on the top but have to book early as it is always fully booked. To get to the peak, you could drive your own vehicle but the road is quite steep and winding. If you don't want to drive, there are shuttle van provided, with payment. If you opt to drive up there, they journey may take about 30 min. There's ample of parking space up there. The view on the top is breath-taking. On a clear day, you could see the plain and the sea horizon. Though not very chilling but the fresh air is good enough to freshen up your mind. There's a new glass platform, rm5 per person for 10 minutes. Perfect place for photo shooting. There's a cafe which serves beverages, cakes, nasi lemak, curry puff and etc, though simple but you get to enjoy your food in such spectacular environment. There's a swimming pool (for residents only), playground, strawberry farm. Overall, this is a great place for simple excursion. Highly recommended.
Larry L — Google review
The air on the mountain is very good, fresh and natural. Recently, there have also been more tourists. If time permits, it is recommended to rent a hotel up there and spend a night.
Tan J — Google review
Well maintained! I am comparing to Fraser hill… The facilities of the resort is in good condition. Not as big like Fraser but do have enough space and activities for a weekend nature escape. Great paddy field view and coastal view.
KJ P — Google review
If you’re a cyclist looking for a proper challenge in Kedah, Gunung Jerai is a must-ride. The climb is brutal, about 11km with an average gradient that sits in the high single digits, but with ramps that feel like they go straight to the sky. It’s a steady grind where pacing is everything, and you’ll definitely be reaching for your easiest gear. Road surface is mostly good, with some sections a little rough but nothing unmanageable. Traffic is light, though you’ll still get the occasional car or motorbike, most drivers are courteous and give space. The scenery changes as you climb, from paddy fields at the base to lush rainforest higher up, and the air gets noticeably cooler as you near the summit. The view at the top is worth every drop of sweat, on a clear day, you can see the coastline and paddy fields stretching out like a painting. The descent is fast but technical, so keep your lines clean and your brakes in check. Bring enough water, and if you’re starting mid-day, prepare for the heat. It gets real down at the bottom. Definitely a climb you’ll remember, and maybe even come back to conquer again.

A fantastic getaway! Gunung Jerai Rekreasi offers a wonderful respite from the heat. The temperature was a perfect 22°C, making it incredibly pleasant to walk around and enjoy the scenery. The highlight, of course, is the stunning panoramic view of the entire Yan area, with its picturesque fields and coastline stretching out below. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a cool climate and spectacular. -Refer room tariff details -private car entrance from kaki bukit RM5 -per pax entrance to puncak gunung RM2/pax -no outside food/drink allowed
Glen Y — Google review
Just went there less then an hour... bad experience. Bedorw you go up, you have to pay rm5 per car but we did not manage to go up. Around 1km bef reach peak we make a u-turn and go down back because we get stuck there almost an hour and not move at all. Toilet facilities at Muzium also broken. Responsible department need to do something to maintain those facilities. We just stop a while and manage to capture few photos
Shila N — Google review
Amazing view! Paddy fields and the ocean all in one shot. Super lucky to catch the fields during the golden harvest too! There are many attraction here such as strawberry farm, camping site, hiking trails, waterfalls and blue hydrangea garden, worth to come!
Mary Z — Google review
Overall the experience was great. The only downside is the entrance, parking, and transportation fee (van) can only be paid via cash. They would not accept QR or any e-wallet.

Properties seated on a beautiful spot, serene, tranquil and calm. But the Chalet is in pretty shabby state. Perhaps due to age and maintenance effort. No heater in shower. Fan switch was there, but there isn't any ceiling fan. Night wall lamp amd switch was there but there isn't any bulb. Very limited power point in the room. Bed was infested with mini colony of ants. Swimming pool is cloudy unlikely usable.

second time we do family day here, took rumah atok and bilik cermin and the morning view is very lovely, one room fit 4 people and could even ask for extra mattress. There's even horses around. And can kayak also. the staff is very friendly. overall nice experience, would recommend.
Bubble C — Google review
The view is spectacular but the amenities are all worn out and in a sordid state. The bathroom door is also very narrow, making entry into the toilet very difficult. Other than that, only Celcom users have proper internet connection. I would not recommend people to come and stay here for the experience.

Muhammad K — Google review
Place is a bit run down, not well maintained. A lot of farm animals around, goats, horses, chickens and cats. Very nice view and calm, especially in early morning. Not so many activity around, very nice and quiet place if you just want to relax.
Faiz M — Google review
The room rate does not match the condition in the room. Have to pay extra for iron, keetle.. Swimming pool is no longer usable. I think for a place that far away from town & low facilities, the price should be lower.no restaurant at the resort.need to drive for about 5km+ to get food. Whats interesting just, its village-style, mini-zoo & the lake view.

Museum
Sights & Landmarks
Rumah Kelahiran Tun Dr. Mahathir offers a glimpse into the early life of Malaysia's fourth Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, who was born in Alor Setar on December 20, 1925. The museum is well-maintained and free to enter, featuring his birth house, two exhibition halls, and an auditorium with personal belongings and family effects on display.
Free admission. Remember to take your shoe off while entering the house. The Birth House of Tun Dr. Mahathir is a palm wood house located behind an old ice factory. After several restorations, it is now open to the public for free. You can see some historical photos and reports. The two adjacent exhibition halls display items used by Tun Dr.Mahathir and his family. We came on Feb 1 (Federal Public Holiday), there a some local tourists hanging around, and a children keep jumping on the bed which is not allowed....hope those parent with active children can be more alert on this.

Free admission. We went on Sunday and had no visitor there. There are 2 galleries to visit. It is interesting. Both are well maintained, clean, and with air-conditioning. Unfortunately, Dr. Mahathir's house that he was born and grew up was under renovation. We were not able to visit.

Free entry never went in to his house because not feel like going in lol got big parking space and its under Malaysian Archive

The historical facts and memorabilia are on display, Tun’s childhood with stern parenthood and discipline made him what he is today. Put aside his political banters, there are plenty to learnt from this special man.

Free entry!!! 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Birthplace and residence for the most important political figure in modern Malaysian history. This is a very well-maintained house and the whole compound comprises 2 museum buildings, an auditorium, a surau, a public toilet, and a parking lot. The place is well set up and walking in the house is like traveling back in time. Highly recommended. Best is come here during weekdays off peak season. You can take your sweet time to enjoy the whole experience.

Alor Setar Tower, standing at 165.5 meters, is a prominent landmark in Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia. It serves as both a telecommunications tower and a popular tourist destination. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views from the observation deck and dine at the revolving restaurant while exploring the gift shop.
When you are in Alor Setar, this is the one tourist attraction you need to visit. The staff were all friendly and the view from the top is great. They have an area with a glass floor for the brave! It's a little expensive, at 37RM.
Paul A — Google review
The entrance is on the ground floor behind the entrance of the Aman Central Mall. RM 8 for adult and RM4 for kids (Malaysians). It's windy up there so you won't sweat up your shirts. The telescope machine is free to use. Also, you can walk from Alor Setar KTM Station to the mall or Alor Setar Tower but need to cross fews dangerous roads.
Esma Z — Google review
Alor Setar Tower. Pay 8 ringgit. Go upstairs take lift. Enjoy the beautiful scenic view around the city. This is just amazing. Because not many tall towers nearby, so you can view everything! You can see gunung jerai from here. Spend maybe 30mins to 1hour on the covered deck or open deck. Just amazing. Spectacular. Thank you for reading
Hakim M — Google review
Please change the lenses of your telescope. They've turned yellow due to UV exposure and aging... they look terrible, it's really sad. Don't embarrass the name of Kedah in the eyes of tourists. People are paying for the tickets. Please, do something — it's embarrassing.
GHOST — Google review
Nice facility, hope the management can put signage along the corridor and indicate the historical landmarks such as the istana , masjid zahir and others. We enjoyed out time up at the tower.
K S — Google review
Coming from Kuala Lumpur, where KL Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers dominate the skyline, I didn’t feel the need to head up to the top of Alor Setar Tower. Yet, even without the full tourist experience, the tower left its mark on me. What makes it special is the context: in a small, laid-back town where most buildings are modest in height, this single tower rises confidently, instantly becoming a landmark you can’t miss. Unlike the competition of skyscrapers in KL, Alor Setar Tower stands in striking contrast to its surroundings. That difference gives it a quiet kind of grandeur—less about sheer scale and more about presence. You don’t have to go up to appreciate it; just seeing it dominate the skyline is enough to understand why it’s a point of pride for the city. It’s a reminder that even a lone tower can redefine a town’s character.
Prem K — Google review
Best experience with kids. Staffs are friendly. Just opposite of Aman Central & a walking distance from our hotel. Ticket also cheap.
Aisyah H — Google review
One of the iconic landmarks in Alor Setar that you should visit. To look at Alor Setar city from the birds' eye view gives the historically appreciative and amazing feeling as you can spot combination of new modern buildings, old shop rows, palaces and even spectacular Gunung Keriang can be seen from far. Kedah River snakes around shops and buildings renders the vibes of serenity amidst the bustling time of rush hour. Should you feel that you want for more, you can challenge yourself to walk on the glass plank or to have a dine at a restaurant with amazing view around. For kids, there are other interesting activities that they can try like venturing the basement haunted house (open occasionally), riding in the pool or even playing at the playground. Simple as it may seem this landmark is definitely a place for family to get together or chill in the evening.

Mall is ok. Nothing to comment and absolutely ok. But facilities for ‘Surau’ or Prayer room location direction needs to be upgraded. Around 1 hour we have been searching for the surau location. At first searching for 5F, then GF, end up asked the counter says need to go to 5F again but still couldn’t manage to find until we asked the random people. Total hours of finding is almost 2 hours!!! Then after reaching, the surau was full of people. Haha. What a day🥲 Really disappointed with the direction of the surau. Management please take note on this. Much appreciated.
